Preferred Solution: XP wont save .jpeg pics as .jpeg

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer:windows xp not save pics as jpeg

I think wallpaper files are supposed to be bitmaps anyway, but you could always click here and download Irfanview which allows you to set images as wallpaper as well as changing their properties.Hope that helps.

my programme has suddenly stopped saving my photos in jpg format, this from one day to the next, when I alter a photo and "save as" to any folder it only appears as a "file" and not a "jpeg" despite my having saved the photo from in the jpeg dropdown menu, my question is: why is this happening and how can I get it back to normal, the saved photo shows as a kind of icon with lots of coloured tabs on it, I cant get it to save in any format other than this "file" with coloured dots icon type. thanks LAPTOPDUNCE wont save my photo in jpeg

Not a program I have myself but, if I remember rightly, it is a free download.
Should this be the case, why not delete it and re-download, as it is possible that a fault has developed.

After reloading W10 due to it being unable to restore any points I then installed the huge Creative update after being told this would fix it which I believe the Autumn update caused the facility to restore defunct. Now I can't open any jpeg picture just by double-clicking on it. I can by opening a photo inside any viewing app program but not by double-clicking it. Even after making any app a default it still doesn't open the jpeg. The app default window springs up every time I tick the box and asks 'how do you want to open this file?' and I tick the 'always use this app to open jpeg files' box but nothing else happens apart from the desktop refreshing and the window opening again. I've run the troubleshooter for installed apps and it told me there is a problem. Then it told me 'not fixed'. I ran a sfc but there's nothing wrong. Any ideas?

Answer:Problem opening jpeg pics in W10

1. Problems with System Restore and failing to restore are far from uncommon.
There's a huge thread on error 80070091 for example, with the outcome, if that's the error you were having.

2. I'm wondering what sort of 'reload' you did of Win 10?

After reloading W10

- reset? in-place upgrade repair install?

Then you

installed the huge Creative update

- was that an update or a clean install (which you could have done, had you wished).

It's not worth such massive activities simply to fix system restore- it can fail for a variety of reasons, and some people here use it if it happens to work, but don't rely on it, or prefer to use disk imaging alone - which is a far more complete and comprehensive way of making sure you can recover your PC to a working state, and which we highly recommend.

JPEG issues.
1. What error did the troubleshooter give you?
2. If you clean installed the creator's edition, I would hope there wasn't a problem with the universal apps. (See question above).
3. What are you trying to associate jpegs with? Photos? A desktop program?
4. Please post a screenshot like this:

5. Does Photos open successfully?

Hi - hope someone can help. Am running Win XP Home on a reasonably up to date PC. Have accumulated 'loads' of JPeg picture images. What I would like to know is, is there a simple and/or easy way to place an identifiable 'title' on the images to aid recovery and identification. The camera I have is a Fuji FinePix A210 although my daughter in the US sends me loads of pics from there also.

Answer:Giving JPeg pics names

Maybe it's different in XP but in 98SE I just right-click the image, then rename to whatever I want or will easily recognise, (keeping the .jpg extension of course). To save further trawling through loads of pictures, I also then save related ones in their own folders, i.e. a particular Christmas, holiday, kids etc.

I am trying to send pictures of my artwork in mgi photosuite4 in an album that is pza to my photo album at [email protected] yahoo group and cannot do it. I can't get the individual pics to send one at a time, they are in jpeg, the album is in pza format and that is the only way it will go when I try to download (as the album) them to my [email protected] site and it is unsuccessful I think because it is in pza. I was able to send the album to my yahoo email address and put them in my briefcase, but can't go anywhere with that. I am severely computer illiterate. help

You need to upload the jpg's one at a time to the album on Yahoo. THe album there is different than the one MGI uses and will not accomplish what you are trying to do.

I have a Fujifilm camera that takes pics in .jpeg. I am attempting to insert multiple
pictures into an email or word document that are thumbnail in size. Once clicked-on
the picture will open to full size.

Can you help?

Answer:How to transfer jpeg pics into thumbnail shots

Hi Mike, and welcome to TSG.

I don't think there is any way to do what you want when sending an email with attached photo files. How the attached files appear will depend on the email client software used by the recipient.

You can sorta do it in MS-Word with the first page containing thumbnails of all the pictures and adding pages after that with a full size picture on each. Each thumbnail would be set as a hyperlink to the page with the full size photo and each full size photo would be a hyperlink back to the thumbnails page.

Maybe somebody here could could tell you if there is a way to do it using VBA in an MS-Word document.

I am not very computer savvy and ended up deleting all my pictures of my newborn child. I purchased a program to recover my files and now when I try to open the pictures it says either the file was damaged or corrupted, that it is unable to read file form, or that I do not have a suitable graphics importer. I was told that the pics are in a temporary file? I've tried to open them through windows photo and kodak easyshare. If someone knows how to fix this, please help. I am desperate.

Answer:Recovered pics after deleting and now unable to read jpeg

Hi. . .

I need some additional information, please:

1. How did you originally delete the files (via "Delete" on right-click in Windows Explorer)?
2. Did you look in the Recycle Bin?
3. What recovery program did you use?
4. Why do you believe they are in a temporary folder?
5. Do you know the name of the temp folder?
6. What drive are/were they on (e.g., drive c: - Pictures folder, external hard drive, DVD, etc...)?
7. Is the file extension (the end of the file name) .jpeg, .jpg, etc...?
8. How many pictures (approx) are you looking for?
9. Is every one corrupted?

Regards. . .

Recently I acquired an LCD multimedia display with built in jpeg reader. I used the flash card with jpeg images on it, from my camera, to test it and the display's reader worked fine. Then I downloaded jpeg's from my computer onto the same flash card and tried to view them and could not. I then put the card into the camera and it would not recognize those jpeg's either, only the images made by the camera. Both would, however, open another jpeg image made by an earlier camera. All the images work fine when viewed on the computer and I cannot tell them apart by any means that I know of to get info on them. I have reformatted some to no avail. I also downloaded images directly from the web and tried them, same problem - once on the flash card, neither camera or the display's reader sees them. Since I have always gone the other way, viewing and reviewing photo images after loading them onto my hard-drive, this problem is perplexing and, so far, I haven't run across it in on-line resources. Any
insight on this would be appreciated.

Answer:external jpeg viewer won't read some jpeg's

With reverse viewing on a camera, the resolution and file naming structure and location (folder on the card) usually has to be exact or the camera will ignore the image.

Unsure about the LCD display, but could be a resolution limitation.

Hi all,

I'm using Photodraw 2000 V2 for graphic manipulation in my web sites...

But the wierd thing is when I generate graphics within Photodraw, and save it as a JPEG file - Nothing appears in the target directory... I can save all file types including the native .mix / bmp / tiff etc... XP just won't generate a JPEG file when I ask it to from this application.

Paint does it no problem... Just not the application I use most frequently and have all my templates in.

I think I had this problem before but can't remember the solution! It may have had to do with clearing my temporary internet files (if there's an excess of JPEGS in there - can't remeber!) I've tried this (including disk cleanup of XP drive) and it didn't work...

Anyone any ideas...?!

Thanks in advance!

In post 2 of this thread posted by davey7549 is a .jpg

I click the attachment to open the .jpg - and it opens in iexplore (where my .jpeg's are supposed to open) but when I try to save it - it will only save as a bitmap - the drop down save as box gives me no option to save as a .jpeg

my bitmaps open in mspaint - so I know this is recognised as a .jpeg - but just wont save as one - why ?

Yes I do know I can open it up in paint or another program and change it's format

What I don't understand is why I can't save it as a .jpeg in the first place when that is what it is.

This has happened to me before - it only happens rarely - once every 2 or 3 hundred jpeg's probably - most of the time jpeg's save as jpeg's just as they are supposed to do.

Well - this is not a solution, just an option.  I am not sure why you are not getting the choices for save format, have to say.If you have or get Irfanview - a freebie and very useful even as a viewer - you could open a saved BMP in that and save then to what you want - delete BMP after use if so desired.  Roundabout method but maybe useful for now.www.irfanview.comBe on lookout for the Google bar option during install and uncheck it if you do not want it.  The install itself is very light with minimal registry writes.  The plugins pack option too is handy.

Presently I need to scan a document twice to save as two different types i.e pdf and jpeg or even if I want to save in colour and Black n White separately than also I have to scan two times. I am using HP scanning software for my HP flatbed scanner. Is there any way or other scanning software so that I could save the scanned documents in pdf and jpeg by scanning once. Same thing that to scan once but save in both color and Black n White.

Answer:Way/software to scan documents and save as both pdf and jpeg in one go

In the past, I had noticed a certain pdf reader would generate a picture of the pdf page in the temp folder. So that may be a non-hardware solution that will save wear-n-tear on the scanner, albeit time-consuming.

As for color and black-n-white, I think a photo-editing program that can batch-manipulate color into black-n-white would be a better option.

It all starts with this website 'intelligent image resizing' click hereUpload a picture, it automatically resizes it(according to your parameters) and you can save it...alas, I cant. and I need advice here.I'm running Vista + Firefox. When I save a (reseized) picture in 'picture' folder it does not display any file association. It just says 'file' and the thumbnail picture remains white.I can alter it by opening it in 'paint', renaming it and saving it than as a JPEG image. This is far too cumbersome. How do I save an image in jpg format from this website without the need of using 'paint'?Can you recreate this on your Vista machine??

Answer:unable to save in JPEG Image from this website

X7-250 thanks. I saved the picture by adding jpeg to the filename as suggested and it worked perfectly.

I hope someone can help me with this...i have jpeg's that i would like to save into my picture folder but it won't let me save them as jpeg, .bmp keeps coming up in the dropdown and that is my only choice...they are glitter graphics which from what i understand have to be saved as jpeg or .gif in order to glitter when used in something...
is there a program that is a free download out there that will let me save it the way it's supposed to be saved and actually give me a choice or is there someplace on my computer that i could go to change something or other to make that dropdown box work for more than just .bmp...need help, don't know what to do. Why wouldn't the my picture folder give you a choice as what to save things as.

help me please...any suggestions would be appreciated...thanks in advance!

I have Finale's Print Music program and am a choir director who wants to send my choir members music that I write on that program. The problem is that the program stores the files in a format that only the Print Music Program will read. I want to save this image that it gives me off the screen and send it to choir members in jpeg, acrobat or any format that most people have and will be able to access the file without having to have my Print Music program. This music is my creation. I'm just formatting it with Print Music and want others to get a picture of it that I can email. How? How?

Eliminated a bunch of cookies, history..etc. Refreshed and many apps such as bittorrent, iTunes, real downloader and others were eliminated thru process. I DID receive a list of "removed apps" (very nice) and continued to re-install newly. Google chrome was RE-enabled after I suffered many difficulties , unable to use it as browser after somehow I deleted it. ONE issue, Google chrome browser does NOT allow me to 'save as' posts off of FB as JPEG. Only as chromefile. No serious issue as I use EXplorer for FB. Any comments? I work off of desktop, even though compu has windows 8. Don't like working thru tiles due to presentation page lay out.

Answer:Google Chrome won't save Facebook posts in Jpeg format

As I don't use either Chrome or FB so I'm not the best one to answer. However, as you are still waiting I did find this:"Go to Wrench Icon > Options > Under the hood(bonnet) tab scroll down to the download section and click 'Clear auto opening settings".Most likely you've already tried that.Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks

Hi. I'm a newbie. I have been working on wirelessly Streaming dvd from my laptop to my TV using my xbox360 as an extender and Linksys wrt54g. I have been successful at Streaming in full sd quality, with excellent sound & picture almost no pauses and almost never crash (depends on how many other users (3) in the house are on line and how much bandwidth they are using.

My problem is that I put each mpg in a separate folder with a jpeg of the cover pic and then right click on the folder and select the customize tab. I select choose file and go to pictures and select the same jpeg or select the one that's already there. Not all, but about 1/2 of the folders don't display the jpeg! The ones that do work great with wmc and the ones that don't are blank but you can select the folder and it streams perfectly. I have tried every way I can dream up to do this and no success. If anyone has fixed this problem please share with me and I will be happy to share the methods I use to make this work. Thank you.

For WMC to display the icon, you need to ensure that the jpeg is named 'folder' within the film directory. If you do this, there is no need to use the customise tab.

Okay, so I took about 900 pictures off my Sony DSLR camera, and copied and pasted them from the camera's folder, to a new folder on an external hard drive (Which is what I always do), and now the pictures in the new folder are all messed up! Like the first 50, and the last 50 are perfectly normal while the rest of the 800 in the middle say "No preview available" when tried to be opened with Windows picture and fax viewer. When tried to be opened with PictureViewer, it says "Could not display "DSC08868.JPG" because a suitable graphics importer could not be found". When tried to be opened with paint it says, "Paint cannot read this file. This is not a valid bitmap file, or it's format is not currently supported". These files cannot be uploaded on to Photobucket either. All the files are the same size as they were orignally though (Ex. 3 MB).

Also, I have already deleted the pics off the camera (Im still yelling at myself for it...) so I can't just re-upload. However, on recommendation, I installed PC Inspector File Recovery program, and it was able to start re-downloading the deleted pictures from my camera! But the new files were just like the original, and there was "No preview available".

Another strange thing, one of the pictures in the middle, is half gray, with only part of the picture displayed...Like what happens when you mess up with film, here is a link to it: Read more

Hello all. This problem has been bothering me for a quite a while and I couldn't find any friends that are able to fix it aside from a reformat/Win7 re-install.

Anyway, the problem is that whenever I go to save a JPEG image, the 'Save as type:' box will appear appear as what is shown in the picture:

After some searching it appears that there is a file in shell32.dll that lists all the associated file types? Or something along those lines. Is there anyway I can fix this aside from reformat/re-install? I tried a system restore however I am not sure when this started happening.

The link directs to the image itself.

Thank you in advance.

Trying to print photos from "My Documents" all of which I was able to print when the same photos were in my XP machine, I get a "SAVE AS Box" with the photo name prefixed with XPS. And can't print it.
My printer is the default printer.
There is no problem with the printer.
If I insert the photo into a word document I can print it.
What has Microsoft done to me, and what the HE/$$ is an xps file and why do we need one?
Displaying my working for years printer is my default printer, and also shown is my XPS printer. Can I delete this XPS printer?
Just what is XPS??????

Answer:printing jpeg gets "Save to XPS file" ???????

I assume you are just right-clicking on the file and selecting print, or highlighting it and selecting print from the File menu? You don't get a Wizard when doing it by this method, like you did in XP?

Have you tried opening the image in another app (other than pasting it in a doc) such as the standard Windows Image Gallery and printing from there?

XPS printer gets installed with Office, and is there to help the Office documents know what page size you're dealing with if you don't have any physical printer installed, especially when it comes to preview. You can actually print docs to XPS and they are treated similar to PDFs. Not sure whether you can delete it or not

A friend of mine takes digital photographs in TIFF format. The images tend to be around 18 MB in size and 300 dpi.Sometimes he emails them to clients. His clients require high resolution images. However due to the large size of TIFF files he converts them to JPEGS using the ?save as? option in Photoshop.Once the image is in JPEG format it is reduced to around 2 MB in size. From what I understand this is a lossy compression ? the information is lost. However it?s still at 300 dpi?Now here?s the funny part. He tells his client to convert the JPEG that he?s emailed back to a TIFF. He?s thinks they?re getting the same TIFF. Surely not. They?re just getting a new TIFF.It is impossible to restore the image to the original TIFF because information is lost after the first conversion. However when the ?save as? option is selected and save from a JPEG to a TIFF it increases to around 17 MB. But it?s still 300 dpi. I?m a little confused about the extra size. Where?s the information coming from?I think there?s no point trying to convert back to a TIFF because the JPEG is sill 300 dpi. But how is it still 300 dpi when it?s lost around 16 MB of data?Am I right to tell him that you cannot recover the original image from the JPEG?I think he should zip the TIFFs instead.Does anyone support my view?

You can't save a Word document as an image file such as jpg, gif, bmp, etc. You could print the document and scan it in as a picture or you could just open the document and capture the area of the logo using a free screen capture program such as MWSnap click here.

Question: mpg to jpeg?

can an mpg video be changed to jpeg or jpg? I have windows vista and used the windows media player to play it. I tried to e-mail it as a mpg but takes for ever to try to send and then it doesn't e-mail it, it starts over again. Thank you for your help

Answer:mpg to jpeg?

Jpeg or jpg is for a single image, not for a video. Hit pause while playing the mpg and take a picture, that's all that a jpg format would contain, just that one frame.

How large is the mpg? Most email providers limit the size of files you can send. 10 MB to 25 MB are common limits. If it's larger than that, you'd need to use something other than email, or use a program to split it into multiple smaller files.
And it will take a long time to upload, even on Broadband, no matter what method you use to send it. Upload speeds are usually much slower than download. If you have an account with 256 Kbps upload speed, a 10 MB Video will take at least 6-7 minutes to upload, often twice that, though it may have only taken 1-2 minutes to download.

You can transfer files using Yahoo Messenger or Windows Live messenger.
You can using a file sharing web site like MediaFire or RapidShare, or some Online Storage sites allow you to share files. The free accounts generally have smaller file size limits:

Free Online Storage:
Adrive - 50 GB, 2 GiB per file limit
DropBoks - 1 GB, 10 MiB per file limit
eSnips - 5 GB, 10 MiB file limit (50 MiB using their toolbar/uploader)
FileQube - 2 GB - link not responding right now
MediaMax Idrive - 2 GB, no limit, can be automated
Mozy - 2 GB, no file size limit, can be automated, 2 PCs max
Windows Live Skydrive - 25 GiB, 50 MiB per file limit

Idrive and Mozy are meant more as a backup service, so accessing the files form a different PC mi... Read more

hi, I have purchased a 16" led backlit lcd tv and dvd combo for the missus, she likes to play audio books whilst in the kitchen so this little gismo which is also a mp3 player serves the purpose, I have downloaded a couple of audio books from the audiobook bay site and burnt them to a cd disc, at this point the burnt discs play on my pc and my philips dvd recorder/player but are not recognised by the missuses tv/dvd, apparently the files are .jpeg and the tv/dvd only recognises .jpg, all the downloaded files were mp3 as this is also the only format the tv/dvd will work with, so guys where do I go from here, where am I going wrong and  do I need a converter of some sort, I hope some one can help before I get another thick ear

Answer:.jpg not .jpeg

.jpeg and .jpg are the same format, just named differently. If your DVD won't recognize .jpeg, you just need to rename the file to .jpg.

I've burned slideshows with Adobe Photoshop Album 2.0 and found that it appears that about 25% of the perimeter of the shot has been cropped off when I view it on a TV screen. This doesn't seem to happen (or, at least, happen as badly) when I just burn a bunch of JPEGs to CD with Nero. Am I missing something, or is this just how Album works? The main reason I use it is because I can't figure out how to put photos in order when just burning with Nero. I can order them in Photoshop, but it's somewhat of a pain. I would appreciate any input.

Answer:I want the whole JPEG

May be a setting you can check so it will format it to show up right on a tv.
Check the option or preferences in Adobe Photoshop.

now you don't.

Basically, I save a JPEG onto desktop. I know I have.
I open Windows Explorer, I see it on there.

If I am looking flat straight at desktop----which only has two icons it..I don't see it.
Now why would that be?

Answer:JPEG, now you see it...

Hello Eknirb, and welcome to Seven Forums.

As a test, refresh (F5 or right click/refresh) your desktop to see if it shows afterwards.

If not, could you post screenshots of where you see it at?
