hard drive not a valid win32 application !!!! wont open my e drive partition

Question: hard drive not a valid win32 application !!!! wont open my e drive partition

I've never seen this before. Double click on e:\ in my computer and it says not a valid win32 application. Seen it when opening applications but not a drive! all other drives are fine. First time i saw it it was looking for install.exe, which i remember deleting a week or so ago. Most likely because it was a missing shortcut in registry or because it was corrupted or something simular. I dont know what to do about this, as I said never seen it happen b4 on a drive. You can open e drive when you right click and explore but when double click sometimes it tries to locate install.exe. No virus, but did have a few recently, I wont put it down to that though and dismiss because I am very vigilant and remove virus immediately, and scan twice a day, always scanning b4 opening apps. Weird one! Logically, how do i stop it looking for install.exe when openning?
thanx

Preferred Solution: hard drive not a valid win32 application !!!! wont open my e drive partition

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi, I started having problem on my laptop. When I tried to go to microsoft update I got redirected to MSN.com instead. I have Zone Alarm Security Suite installed which picked up a couple of spy cookies as did Spy Sweeper but nothing bigger or badder, then the laptop started freezing up constantly. I have a new desktop computer now and used an external hard drive to transfer some program setup files. I scanned them first with Zone Alarm and as all seemed safe I loaded them all in. Now, when I try to access my C: drive through My Computer I get the message C:|resycled\boot.com.au is not a valid Win32 application. However, I can access the drive by right clicking and selecting explore. I'm assuming as the computer is brand new that I transferred a bug over either on my external hard drive or in one of the setup files. I'm unsure how to go about fixing this problem. The laptop I can re-format, but I'd like to get the desktop cleaned up.This may be information overkill but I installed;Mailwasher, DVDFAB 5.0.6.0, MediaMonkey, Itunes, Comic Collector, DazStudio and Microsoft Office 2007. All of the files except Office were installed from setup files I had saved to the external hard drive when I first downloaded them. I have not installed any of My Documents yet, but I did transfer all my music files over.I attempted the Kaspersky scan but it said it was unable to complete as it couldn't update. I'm not sure if that is connected to the issue or if I configured my internet settin... Read more

First of all, i really didn't know where to post this topic. It's a software troubleshoot.

I get this message when I try to put Madden NFL 08 in my disk drive--"F:/ is not a valid win32 application."

When i explore the CD and its contents, and click on the AUtorun.exe (or any other application on the disc), i get a similar message. I reformatted my Hard drive and it worked. But recently, i moved folders around after the formatting, and it gave me this message again. (This has only been a problem with my Madden CD). I don't want to have to reformat. Creating a new directory and moving the game's folders into it wasn't smart, as it probably messed up some files.

I uninstalled the game, so that's not the problem. I also found all stray files and deleted them.

Thanks for the help.

Answer:<Disk Drive>:/ Is not a valid win32 application

Well you cant just move the folder that it creates upon install and think nothing would happen. Install teh game where you want it first to prevent this.

Have to get a Registry cleaner like CCleaner to try and clean out the registry files for the game. After that install teh game to where you want it. If you dont then LEAVE the folder where it is. If you move it at all you will get this as the executable to run the program will not be where it is expected and cause this again.

Hi all,

I am looking for some help..

I have a Fujitsu Siemens laptop which has a built in DVD writer drive.

For the last few months, when I put in DVD disks to install my games, the autoplay does not start the disk up. I open up 'my computer' and the drive is shown with the title of the disk correctly, and it lets me right click and select 'explore'. However, if I try to run the installer from the disk I get the above error message or something similar, i.e. 'D:\ installer is not a valid win32 application'.

Does anyone have any ideas about this. It used to work fine but has not let me install anything for the last few months. Apart from the standard windows updates I have not installed anything new.

Oh, it does still let me play DVD films ok and I can copy files from a DVD disk to the hard drive, it just doesnt let me install games from the disks.

Thanks for any help you can provide.

Answer:Laptop DVD drive error 'D:\ is not a valid win32 application'

See if you can do a system restore to before this started happening. If that doesn't work, then if you have a retail XP disk, run a repair install.

I am moving you to Windows XP support.

While I did read this topic, and tried to comply with all of your instructions as given, it has simply become impossible to do anything more than what I am doing right now - and even that much is apparently aminor miracle (this is my friend's laptop I'm trying to help him with). So - what's happening is that any and all actions that would entail accessing a .exe or .com or .bat (basically any executable file) causes the computer to bring an "Open With..." dialog bog with a list of programs in it, in which you can sometimes click the browse button & find the correct program, but most of the time not. I think I just got lucky last night when I managed to install Malwarebytes on it, and although the full scan did turn up quite a few items of interest, including a BHOTrojan, there wasn't really anything that would explain all this. There arent any other symptoms - say for instance, any popups happening - and a 2nd full scan with Malwarebytes says thew system is clean. Oh, I almost forgot - those .exe the computer says its missing? Well, they're all right where they are suppposed to be; however their corresponding icons have been deleted, it would seem. They all have what appears to be a Notepad .exe icon instead. Have you guys ever seen anything like this before?

I've recently had a huge bout with growing trojans downloading themselves on my computer, and had finally reinstalled and everything. I left my storage drive unformatted, because I thought it wouldn't be infected. However, it seems that something made it through. What happens now is that whenever I click on my drive, it automatically tries to autoplay it. Even if I try to just open it, i get the same msg of "resycled\boot.com is not valid win32 application". Only when I choose to explore it can I get at my files. I looked around the place, and everyone seems to agree its an infestation, so here I have included my HJT log. Hope someone can help me soon. Thanks.

I recently had a new computer built for me. When I tried to load a new game "F.E.A.R." using the DVD, I received the error message D:\not a valid Win32 application. When I replaced the game with the CD-ROM version I was able to load the game no problem. I can use the drive to burn CDs, DVDs, watch movies, etc. Last night I loaded a game disk on my virtual E: drive using Daemon Tools. When I tried to load the game onto my computer I received the same error message E:\not a valid Win32 application. I have no clue as to what is going on.

Can anyone point me in the right direction? Thanks.

i tried killdisk, and that freezes without even starting. (unless ESC isnt supposed to work while thats on) should i try leaving it on all day??

the computer keeps restarting over and over. and sometimes i get a BSOD for something about a USBsomethhinsomething.SYS

not sure what is going on here. i looked online to figure out how to do the hard drive install when i started and i did everything it said.

could someone please help me get this computer working again so i can install windows xp?? thankyouu!!!

i recently bought 1 tb hard drive and made 7 partition with partition wizard. i dont know why, eventually i opened partition magic althou i knew tht it won't support win7. when i run partition magic it shows some error (which i didn't read it well) and there was the option "let partition magic fix the error" and i clicked ok it came for 4 times then partition magic opened; but it showd my whole hard drive as bad.
when i restarted my computer then my 4 partition are gone,

i tried to change the drive letter but following error occur

partition wizard also shows the drive lable bt all the drive letters are '*' and when i tried to change the letter it also shows the following error

what do i do? i dont want to loose my data in it

Answer:My hard drive partition wont show!! plzzz help!!

That doesn't sound good.

Partition Magic must not be used on Vista/7.

Download the free FREE Rescue Kit Express | PARAGON Software Group

It burns itself to cd - do not format the cd.

Boot the Paragon cd - select Normal Mode , then File Transfer Wizard.

Transfer off any data you need.

After that, Use the Partition Wizard boot disc to perform "Partition Recovery" - Quick scan the whole drive. tick ALL the partitions you want to recover , OK , Apply.

Hello

My new laptop XPS M1530 by DELL with Vista 64bit and a 500GB hard drive came with 4 partitions already in use. I shrank OS C: to give me 150GB's of unallocated space and tried to format and rename it F: so that I could install the Windows 7 Beta and the machine tells me I have to many partions already in use to make another. Apparantly you cant have more than four partitions on this machine. The question I have is can I use a partion manager or some other solution to have more than four partions on this laptop?

Thanks

I am a part-time computer technician when I am not at my actual job doing IT Help Desk for the bank, and I have an issue with this laptop i am working on.

Laptop specs:
Toshiba Satelite L455D
Windows 7 32bit (sticker does not say which version)
(per belarc and magic jelly bean software)
it listed this on the OS:
Windows 7 Home Premium(build 7600)

under the Software Licenses(on belarc)
Microsoft - Windows 7 Home Premium XXXXX-OEM-X...X-XXXXX(Key:"listed key here")
with magic jelly bean, it pulled the same license key

The laptop was brought to me because it would not boot. After diagnosing, i discovered the hard drive had/is failing. So, preparing to install windows again i was hoping the hard drive was just lying to me about failing. it wasn't.
I had to get a hold of the laptop's owner and he informed me he did not have any discs or anything for the laptop.
*the sticker on the bottom of the laptop (where the key is suppose to be) is blank so i think it faded? but the "Proof of license Certificate of Authenticity Microsoft" is on there nice black and bold. so this is why i had to ask the customer if they had their discs.

To get the laptop to boot to the hard drive, i had to do some work on it. I plugged it into an adapter to my computer and ran multiple different chkdsk switches, and to my surprise it finally booted to the os. Computer properties said the correct version of windows as stated above, and i ran magic jelly bean to make sure,... Read more

Answer:Extrenal Hard Drive Recognized But Wont open

We need more information.
Do you see your External HDD in File Explorer? Or This PC?
What happens when you click on the drive letter? What is the error message?
In Disk Management, does it say your drives file system is Unallocated Space? or does it say the Disk # (ie) Disk1, Disk2 etc, does it say it is Not Initialized?
Attach the drive on your friends computer. Press the Windows key+X choose Command Prompt (Admin)
Here type the drive letter of the External Drive (ie) G: and press enter (ie) G:\> At this prompt type chkdsk /R and press enter. Now type a Y for Yes to Unmount the drive. Check Disk will start and go through 5 stages and take a while.

I have a LaCie external hard drive (this one here) that was given to me by a friend, and for one reason or another W10 wont show the external drive as an option under Devices and Drives when selecting "This PC" or My Computer. I can see my SSD with the OS and the internal 2nd drive but not the LaCie. The only place it shows that it knows a drive is connected is in the task bar where it gives the option to eject the drive and in "Devices and Printers". And selecting the drive from there doesn't provide many options, it just opens the properties window for the drive. I don't even see anything telling me what format the drive is, but I have a sneaking suspicion its formatted for a Mac. Is there a way I can get this drive to show on my computer?

The only thing I can think of is to try installing some firmware updates from LaCie's website, but since this drive contains film footage (that im not sure has been backed up or not so its possible this is the only copy of the footage) I want to be absolutely certain that installing the firmware wont erase anything on the drive.

Answer:Detecting but Wont Open LaCie External Hard Drive

You are probably right that the drive is formatted HFS+ for Mac.

With the drive connected, open Disk Management (search for Computer Management > Disk Management). Here you can see what the drive looks like to Windows.

If you right click on the LaCie drive shown you may have the option to format the partition(s) NTFS for windows, or you could convert the entire disk to a MBR Disk.

If the procedure is not obvious you could post a screenshot of the Disk Management window for us to look at.

I need to install eclipse classic by Monday. I installed it about a month ago with no problems but didnt use it for a while.

On Friday I clicked on its icon and it wasnt working, I wish id taken note of what it said but I think it was something to do with not being able to access a file.

Its probably worth mentioning that you cant actually uninstall eclipse. Theres no uninstall option so you have to search for eclipse and then just delete all the files you get.

I downloaded it from the website(http://www.eclipse.org/downloads/) again. It comes in a zip file. I unzipped it and I was pretty sure that it looked different already. The eclipse.exe file had the eclipse icon as its image the first time I tried to install it (or atleast im pretty sure it did) and now its that white square with a blue frame thing (looks kinda like a 2D oven). I click on it. It asks me if I want to extract all or run. I have taken both options and they both lead to the same conclusion; a message saying "blah/blah/blah/elipse.exe" is not a valid win32 application.

I have tried to deal with it in the following ways:
I downloaded the windows 64 bit version. This led to the same result.
I searched for eclipse and deleted everything that came up. Then I downloaded it again and repeated the process. This led to the same result.
I scanned for virusess with spybot, norton and avast and got none.

OK, this is admittedly a strange one...

I have used an old (probably a 16-bit) application as my time synchronizer this I've used for quite some time. Its name is TimeRC, and is a great synchronizer as it tracks moon phases along with the time (from selectable, multiple potential time servers). After a fatal software crash a couple of weeks ago, I'm in the process of recovery. Attempts to manually launch the EXE, result in a launch-time error stating that the ap is not compatible with my Windows 7 Pro (SP1). Note that I'm running on the same level of Windows that I was using prior to the crash/re-install. I have inhibited compatibility checking (Group Policy adjustment) only to incur the Win32 error.

I've been through the litany of utilities (registry) to correct this situation, and I KNOW that this ap runs just fine on Windows 7 (from pre-crash days). I am at my wits end trying to avoid this situation. I suspect that there is a registry setting difference (now versus pre-crash) about which I'm ignorant, so I'm open to any, and all suggestions.

To use an alternative time synchronizer is not an option...I'm anal about how my system looks, feels, and performs!! I've even tried running in XP mode (virtual machine) to no palatable result. Note that I don't have access to the program's source code, otherwise I could recompile!

There's got to be something that I'm missing.

Color me frustrated,
Randy Reist (Lairbear)

Have you just tried removing the program and install again.

Greetings to you at Bleeping Computer. On Saturday June 8th I installed a new (and larger) Western Digital hard drive. I downloaded "Acronis True Image WD Edition" software (from Western Digital's website) and used it to clone my old hard drive onto my new hard drive. I removed the old hard drive. My computer is about 6 years old, it is running Windows Vista Home Premium.
Now when I try to open Windows Mail the following happens:
I get a window titled "Windows Mail Storage Recovery" that says: "Recovering the Windows Mail Database". That window disappears and I now get a window titled "WinMail.exe" that says: " Windows mail could not be started. The application was unable to open the Windows Mail message store. Windows Mail was unable to locate its message database. If you've move the database files to a new location, click OK to Reset the database path to that location. Otherwise, click Cancel to proceed, any existing messages found will be available under Orphaned Accounts. (0x00000000).
I click on the OK button and I get a Window titled "Browse for Folder" which already has the "Windows Mail" folder highlited. I click on the OK button and I get a Window titled "WinMail.exe" that says: "Windows Mail could not be started. The application was unable to open the Windows Mail Message Store. Answer:Installed & Cloned New Hard Drive - Windows Mail wont open

Well...a cloned drive is an exact copy...so programs that worked before should work on the cloned drive, assuming no drive problems.  I'd have to assume that problems now...were problems before the clone was made.

Hi,
I REALLY hope someone out there can help me with this!

I have a failed hard drive/ stuffed partion, and i DESPERATELY need the data from it!

A computer was brought into me with two hard drives. The owner asked me to set up a duel boot with vista and XP on the first hard drive, and to leave the second hard drive alone (its his backup drive with all his photos, movies etc) I was working away as per usual, when i noticed the second hard drive was no longer coming up in Windows Explorer. Well it was, but not correctly. whenever i clicked on it it said 'would you liket to format the drive?' obviously, i didnt want to do that.

I ran Partition Magic 8.0 which showed the drive was only 8Gigs (it should have been 1T or 1000Gigs) Partition Magic also said there was a problem with the drive and offered to fix it. I agreed, however there was no change.

I've run a number of programs to try and fix the drive:
Acronis Disk Director Server 10.0
Partition Table Doctor 3.5 Demo
Dtidata Partition Repair Tool
MHDD
Recover My Files v3.98
FileScavenger.

However, all the partition repairers claim that the drive is only 8 Gigs, and they can go no further. All the File Recovery Programs will only scan for 8 Gigs, and thus, i can not recover my clients precious photos and videos.

The BIOS comes up as recognizing the drive as 33Gigs?

I really REALLY need the data from this drive! Does anyone know how to fix my problem?

Thanx heaps in advance,

Ben

Answer:Solved: Hard Drive/ Partition Problems! My 1T Hard Drive appears as 8Gigs?!

I've used ZAR to recover files from a RAID box that seemed to have been corrupted due to a bad power supply.

You might check it out. It's free. Meaning it will only allow you to recover so many files at a time. I bought it, and like it.

They have a forum that is monitored quite often, from the developer too.

Good luck.

Hi

No the cables are not the same, SATA and IDE are very different.

So ground info is needed though....

What motherboard do you have, make and model?
If you dont know this info then Everest Free will help just tell us what is listed under Computer > Summary > Motherboard

or tell us if this PC is a OEM build as in HP, Sony, Dell etc again model and version number is needed.

These days most or majority of motherboards that employ SATA only have 1 at most IDE connections, so if your using 2 CD/DVD drives the connector capacity will be full.

If you do have a spare IDE connection, then my advice to you is to keep the SATA drive as the primary C: drive ( as they are faster in data transfer than IDE ) and use the ID drive as storage, so once the IDE drive is installed copy all your normal data/music/video/image etx files to the larger drive and just use the SATA for the OS and applications.

Answer:not a valid win32 application

This is not a malware problem so I'm moving it to the Software Forum.

You may have just lost the file associations for jpg files. Inside Photoshop you should have an option/setting somewhere to setup File Assocications. Make sure Photoshop is associated with jpg files (and any other files you want it associated with).

I have windows 7 64 bit and i dled and installed windows debugging tool from here Windows Software Development Kit (SDK) for Windows 8
i'm aware it's for windows 8 but a thread on this forum directed me to it for windows 7 so.. idk. and i couldn't find w7 versions

after installed, i tried to open a .dmp file from C:\windows\minidump but i got this error

did i install the right one? i'm having such a hard time opening these files just to find how why i've been bsoding so much recently ><

Answer:%1 is not a valid Win32 application.

using the debugger isn't really all that easy.
Just to start from the beginning have you set up the symbol library for it?
Use the Microsoft Symbol Server to obtain debug symbol files

It would probably be easier to just upload a couple of dumps here and let someone with it all set up already do it. As you'll also need to know several of the console commands in the debugger to actually get any useful information out of it.
Also, make sure you are opening a crash dump, and not opening an application with the debugger.

Hi, I'm just new to these forums and am having some terrible problems with my computer, so please bear with me and give me some support

Upon downloading an application I found that when I click on the download and select "Run" I get the message "XXX.exe is not a valid Win32 Application" XXX of course being the name of my download, not an actual file name. My antivirus is also somehow missing. This of course also means that I can't download a new antivirus or any program to attempt to fix my computer, so I may have to rely on a completely manual method of repair.

I have also found that when I save an image its download size is 0kb, another major problem =/

Please give me some advice about how to rectify this problem, preferrably one that does not involve resetting to factory defaults as I have misplaced the recovery disks.
Thanks in advance =D

I was installing XP alongside Win98 as a dual-boot system. Both OS were working fine. I downloaded OpticPro_600p.zip from Driverguide to install my parallel port scanner Plustek OpticPro 4831p. The installation went smoothly and required rebooting. After rebooting I have been unable to run any program - I get the message 'X is not a valid win32 application' including notepad, msconfig etc. When I tried to shut down, it said 'You do not have permission to shut down this computer'. I had set it up as a single user with no log-on screen, with no password, as no-one else uses my computer. Also had system restore turned off!I scanned the OpticPro_600p.zip file with AVG free from my Win98 partition and it was clear.I rebooted XP in safe mode and uninstalled the scanner driver but still have the same problem. I can run some programs in safe mode. Any idea as to how I can retrieve my XP installation?

Hi all, I have a Pentium IV 524 (3.06 GHz 1M L2 533FSB) NEC Powermate ML7 Q8200; with XP Home Edition.

For a little while I have been getting the message "cmd.com is not a valid win32 application" on start-up. You just have to ok that message and then it proceeds fairly normally. One thing it does do is overheat? i.e. it seems to be working extra hard (right from boot-up) and eventually seises up. To this end I installed a 1Gig RAM card the other day (it now has 1.5 Gig). That helped a bit but of course the message still comes up.

I googled the message and from this site learned that it is indicative of a virus. It instructed me to locate the cmd.com file in the System 32 folder and delete it. I found 4 cmd type files in the folder. I right-click/Properties the 4 files: 3 seemed legitimate and had no mention of the dot-com. They were all 'Application' or 'application extension' type files with the description in black print. One seemed suspect; it was called cmd; type was MS DOS Application, print in blue, had a size of zero and right-click/properties showed -under program- that it had a cmd line: C:\WINDOWS\system32\cmd.com. I thought that this must be it and so removed the file to the trash.

After that the computer functioned very slowly. The Windows Task Manager/Processes showed that the were only about 20 processes running instead of the usual 50 or so (approx). I tried rebooting it to no avail. So I reinstalled the cmd file from the tras... Read more

Answer:not a valid Win32 application

When you ran MGTools.exe, did you get any error messages? Did you fail to agree to the user license for HJT?
If you did get an error message, see this: Using MGtools

Let's also do this:

Open notepad and copy and paste the following text in the quote box into the window:

sc stop srosa
sc delete srosaClick to expand...

Save this as fix.bat
Choose to save as all files.
Doubleclick fix.bat and let the program run.
A small black dos window will flash, this is normal.

Copy the bold text below to notepad. Save it as fixME.reg to your desktop. Be sure the "Save as" type is set to "all files" Once you have saved it double click it and allow it to merge with the registry.

REGEDIT4

[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\Root\LEGACY_SROSA]
[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\Root\LEGACY_SROSA\0000]
[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet003\Enum\Root\LEGACY_SROSA]
[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet003\Enum\Root\LEGACY_SROSA\0000]

Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it. Then attach the new C:\MGlogs.zip file.

If he places Disk 1 in the drive it shows a Corel logo and then spends ages with the "spinner" before showing the title error message - E:\ is not a valid Win32 application.

I would guess that he is doing something like a double click before the software has had a chance to spin-up by itself.

Answer:E:\ is not a valid Win32 application

Site thinks that a link that I was going to post is spam! Basically it's an installation problem caused by a registry error or malware (unlikely from a CD) or a conflict with something else that is running. Try installing without anti-virus on.

Did this happen to Ad-aware before or is this your first time running Ad-aware? If this is the first time, try reinstalling Ad-aware.

Otherwise, I would check for any viruses/trojans:

If you have a fast internet connection (broadband), run an online virus scan at TrendMicro. Just follow the instructions on the site to run the online scan. Otherwise, make sure your antivirus program has the latest definitions and run a full system scan.

Answer:HELP not a valid win32 application!!!!!!!

Sounds like the zip have have is having the wrong extension, check your Folder Options in windows and make sure that extensions are not hidden, and then check that the zip-file in question has .zip as extension.

Another possibility is that the program used for opening ZIP-files have become damaged(By virus/HDD failure or similar) and it is no longer able to start properly. Reinstall the program used for opening ZIP-files.

Instead of double clicking the file, then start either of the following programs 7Zip/WinZip/WinRar/WinACE and open the zip-file through the user-interface of the program in use.

Hi guys I need some help trying to figure out whats wrong with my PC. As of now every time I start up I'm getting this dialog pop up box which says " Application cannot be executed. I was also getting a pop up ever time I tried to open up certain programs stating something along the lines of blah blah "mhotkey.com is not a valid win32 application" Its preventing me from running housecall as well.

Also when I open up Hijackthis it comes up with a dialog box saying

"For some reason your system denied write access to the hosts file. If you hijacked domains are in this file, HijackThis may NOT be able to fix this
If that happens, you need to edit the file yourself. To do this, click Start, Run Type notepad C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\hosts and press Enter. Find the line(s) HijackThis report and delete them. Save the file as 'hosts.' (with quotes), and reboot. But when I attempt to right click on Hijack This there is not run as administrator option like there usually is for other programs???

I already attempted to use ccleaner and cleaned my registry along with my files even though I probably shouldn't have.

Hello,

I am hoping someone can help me with this issue.

I have downloaded some games from Shockwave.com for my son.  I save the .exe files to my desktop.  When I try to run the installation files, I get this error:
C:\Users\GINA'S~1\AppData\Local\Temp\APNStub.exe is not a valid Win32 application.
When I click OK, this error pops up:
Could not execute the external program C:\Users\GINA'S~1\AppData\Local\Temp\APNStub.exe.

I have HughesNet as an internet provider.  Due to the limited daily usage, I initially used the HughesNet Download Manager and IE8 to download the files.  Since I got these errors when running the installation, I deleted the files.

I get my Shockwave membership through my internet provider.  I am can only access the site through my internet provider's main customer page.  While in this framed page, I downloaded the files with IE8 again, but I chose to download from the browser instead of scheduling it with the manager.  I still received the errors when I ran the files, so I deleted them.

I completely turned off the Download Manager so it would automatically download from IE8 without even trying to go through the manager options.  I still received the errors, I deleted them.

I even tried downloading them from a different browser.  I used Safari since it is the only other one I have downloaded on this computer.  I still received the errors.

I never had this problem... Read more

I did some searching before I posted this problem but I couldn't find a solution that helps.

Everytime I try to install a program be it Itunes, the redistrubution package of the .Net framework, etc. I always get the error "xxxx.exe is not a valid win32 application."

I've read that a virus named Pretty Park could be responsible, yet it doesn't show up in my registry.

I'm utterly confused as to what to do.

Answer:Everything is not a valid Win32 Application

Your issue is caused by one of the following:
1. File is corrupt, bad, or missing.
2. File is not designed for your version of Windows.
3. File is a virus, worm, or other malware file.
4. Hardware incompatibility.

Hi guys,

I'm in need of some serious help, my computer is acting extremely weird when opening .exe files which it has never done before. Whenever I try to open ANY exe file I've downloaded it tells me the application is not a valid win32 application. Which I don't understand. I've done a virus scan and it found some Trojans and viruses, and I deleted and disinfected and rebooted the computer. I also went into CMD and did a scan that fixed something within the system files after doing a little bit of research on it. It rebooted but still nothing. It gives me the same annoying error. I tried downloading Malwarebytes Anti-Malware but it also gives me the same error as with other setup and exe files. Right now I'm stuck with Microsoft Windows Defender in scanning. I tried downloading from Internet Explorer to see if it was from Google Chrome and still no luck as well. I feel like I'm stuck in a very deep technical error hole. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for the help.

P.S:

There might be some viruses left, because the scan did not finish due to the monitor not responding, so I had to shutdown and reboot. But I'll try again and wipe out any more I find if any.

Answer:...is not a valid win32 Application....

the viruses screwed up your file associations from the sound of it.
Go to the below linked tutorial and use it to ensure you exe file settings are correct.
Default File Type Associations - Restore
(just scroll down to exe)
it does sound like you've done a decent job of removing the malware, so hopefully all you need to do is fix the association.

This is my first post so I'm likely to appear stupid. I'm of average computer competence but love the things. Short story is this:

I have an accounting program in which I have data files for each year of my business. These have been successfully backed up for years on CD and now JumpDrive, and stored on the desktop with a shortcut for easy access.

I downloaded and installed SP2. Now when trying to open a file, I get the message C:\XXX\XXX\XXX is not a valid Win32 application. It always was before so what changed?

I cannot back up my current files because that is the name I've always used. The computer doesn't recognize the name as valid so I have no security.

An ancillary problem is that years ago, my adorable husband somehow associated my old data file to be opened with MusicMatch. (We don't even discuss this.) I managed a workaround so that I got the files to open with their program application even though I could never change the icon from MusciMatch. No harm no foul. No longer. Post SP2, the danged thing went back to opening MusicMatch, ignoring my old workaround. Messing with it for hours got it to where I'm now getting the invalid file messagel

Can anyone help me? These files are serious stuff to me.

(See, I do appear stupid. )

Answer:What Is a Valid Win32 application?

If you could clarify a bit?

"Now when trying to open a file, I get the message C:\XXX\XXX\XXX is not a valid Win32 application"
How are you trying to open this file?
Double clicking on it?
Clicking on a shortcut?
If you use Start > Programs does C:\XXX\XXX\XXX run, or still give the error?
(BTW, this IS your accounting program?)

"I cannot back up my current files because that is the name I've always used. The computer doesn't recognize the name as valid so I have no security. "

What name? Or do you mean C"\xxx\xxx\xxx??
No security? Meaning, no backup??

Re: Your old data file. From Explorer or My Computer, select one of these files, right mouse, open with and with from the list or the browse button, select the program that should be use, select the Always Use and OK your way out.

Hi All,

At the moment, I'm unable to open any applications including my usual anti-spyware tools such as Malwarebytes, Spyware Doctor, and SpyBot. When I try, a message would pop up to the effect of "[filename] is not a valid Win32 application." I've tried renaming the .exe file, but I would still get the same error message. I also did this in Safe Mode, but same results.

This all happened when I was browsing online (using Firefox) opening up a slew of sites on different tabs. I have been to all of these sites hundreds of times before and they are totally legit and trusted sites (film blogs, etc.). It took longer than usual for them to download and when they did Firefox closed and I was greeted by two fake anti-virus software pop-ups. I should've noted their names, but I immediately closed them and tried to run Malwarebytes. And as I said above, that didn't work. And that's where I am right now.

I googled my problem and this seems to be related to Bagle/Beagle? Is there anything to confirm this? If it is, what should my next steps be? Any guidance would be much appreciated.

My operation system is Windows XP.

Many thanks.

- Ryan

All of a sudden, i opened today my PC and neither Kapsersky nor Zonalarm loaded in start-up. I tried to run these two programs by myself but the same message pop-up: "zlclient.exe is not a valid Win32 appliction" and "avp.exe ...." I tried then some other programs to run, and everything is ok. BUT, every program that is related with viruses, spyware and so DOES NOT RUN!!! So, the same message (valid win32 application) poped up for Spybot S&D and Spyware doctor too! Is it accidentaly that these programs do not run? I don't think so.... I start-up with win98(2nd boot) and run kaspersky from there. It did not find anything. Also, i searched for mysterious loads from msconfig and other start-ups or loads....and found nothing. i have never seen something like that. The classical problems are usually handled the ways i tried, but what is this? It's something that disarms all the defenses i have got (anti-virus or anti-spyware programs). All the protection is out of function!

And guess what...Safe mode is off the game: As soon as it loads the .sys files it restarts by itself!
System restore does nothing at all. It works, but identifies says that nothing has changed.

I recently had an experience with Windows Police Pro and I used MBAM to get rid of it but apparently it didn't get rid of everything. Running a Dell Laptop Insperon 640M, Windows XP. A hardware issue with the laptop's wiring leaves the attached display 100% dead, and forces me to rely on an external (Dell) monitor.Yesterday, I decided to update my Malwarebytes Anti Malware program.Shortly after doing that, I discovered AVCare had let itself into my computer. Mbam.exe wouldn't launch, though it would display in the list of active processes under the ctrl+alt+delete menu. After Googling the issue (and winding up here), I decided to try renaming MBAM.EXE to MABM.BAT. This worked, I found ~150 infected objects, and cleaned them without really looking them over. Rebooted at Malwarebyte's request to finish the job. This morning found me with "Google installer" being unable to launch, infected with "Windows Antivirus Pro," and svchost.exe also asking me to send an error report. ViewMgr.exe is unable to launch. I am not familiar with the functions of the last two. I also had what appeared to be a legitimate, XP message informing me that my Firewall had been disabled. Attempting to run MABM.BAT(.exe) gave me a popup (from Windows Antivirus Pro) that the item is infected. renaming again didn't fix this. I ctrl+alt+del'd to close the Windows Antivirus Pro, knowing it'd be back up within a few seconds. I then attempted to launch MBAM while WAVP was down. It launched, I started the scan, and left for work, asking my older brother to finish the scan.I return after a 10 hour shif... Read more

Just tried to do utorrent and when I tried to open the file to install it it comes up saying that it is not a valid win32 application. Googling this it seems that it could be some kind of worm??

I am trying to install a program and the setup file won't run. I get a message that says "Setup.exe is not a valid WIn32 application."

I've scanned it and it contains no viruses and I'm not sure why it won't run. Does anyone have any ideas?

Answer:a non-valid Win32 application

It may be damaged or it's possible that the file is not really "setup.exe" but something else that was accidentally renamed. Where did you get it from? Go back to the source (to the CD, web site, or wherever) and grab it again.

I have a file that comes up with the error msg 'not a valid win32 application' when I try opening it, I believe this means Im running a different OS to the one the file was written for, I have Windows ME, is there anything I can do to allow me to open this file? (its a .exe file by the way)

Answer:not a valid win32 application

mogwai, you are right. The message is telling you that the program was written for an older version of Windows, and will not work with your ME. Unless someone makes 16bit emulation software, the only other solution I can think of is to make your computer dual boot (both Windows ME and an earlier version of Windows).
