hard drive not a valid win32 application !!!! wont open my e drive partition

Question: hard drive not a valid win32 application !!!! wont open my e drive partition

I've never seen this before. Double click on e:\ in my computer and it says not a valid win32 application. Seen it when opening applications but not a drive! all other drives are fine. First time i saw it it was looking for install.exe, which i remember deleting a week or so ago. Most likely because it was a missing shortcut in registry or because it was corrupted or something simular. I dont know what to do about this, as I said never seen it happen b4 on a drive. You can open e drive when you right click and explore but when double click sometimes it tries to locate install.exe. No virus, but did have a few recently, I wont put it down to that though and dismiss because I am very vigilant and remove virus immediately, and scan twice a day, always scanning b4 opening apps. Weird one! Logically, how do i stop it looking for install.exe when openning?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi, I started having problem on my laptop. When I tried to go to microsoft update I got redirected to instead. I have Zone Alarm Security Suite installed which picked up a couple of spy cookies as did Spy Sweeper but nothing bigger or badder, then the laptop started freezing up constantly. I have a new desktop computer now and used an external hard drive to transfer some program setup files. I scanned them first with Zone Alarm and as all seemed safe I loaded them all in. Now, when I try to access my C: drive through My Computer I get the message C:|resycled\ is not a valid Win32 application. However, I can access the drive by right clicking and selecting explore. I'm assuming as the computer is brand new that I transferred a bug over either on my external hard drive or in one of the setup files. I'm unsure how to go about fixing this problem. The laptop I can re-format, but I'd like to get the desktop cleaned up.This may be information overkill but I installed;Mailwasher, DVDFAB, MediaMonkey, Itunes, Comic Collector, DazStudio and Microsoft Office 2007. All of the files except Office were installed from setup files I had saved to the external hard drive when I first downloaded them. I have not installed any of My Documents yet, but I did transfer all my music files over.I attempted the Kaspersky scan but it said it was unable to complete as it couldn't update. I'm not sure if that is connected to the issue or if I configured my internet settin... Read more

First of all, i really didn't know where to post this topic. It's a software troubleshoot.

I get this message when I try to put Madden NFL 08 in my disk drive--"F:/ is not a valid win32 application."

When i explore the CD and its contents, and click on the AUtorun.exe (or any other application on the disc), i get a similar message. I reformatted my Hard drive and it worked. But recently, i moved folders around after the formatting, and it gave me this message again. (This has only been a problem with my Madden CD). I don't want to have to reformat. Creating a new directory and moving the game's folders into it wasn't smart, as it probably messed up some files.

I uninstalled the game, so that's not the problem. I also found all stray files and deleted them.

Thanks for the help.

Answer:<Disk Drive>:/ Is not a valid win32 application

Well you cant just move the folder that it creates upon install and think nothing would happen. Install teh game where you want it first to prevent this.

Have to get a Registry cleaner like CCleaner to try and clean out the registry files for the game. After that install teh game to where you want it. If you dont then LEAVE the folder where it is. If you move it at all you will get this as the executable to run the program will not be where it is expected and cause this again.

Hi all,

I am looking for some help..

I have a Fujitsu Siemens laptop which has a built in DVD writer drive.

For the last few months, when I put in DVD disks to install my games, the autoplay does not start the disk up. I open up 'my computer' and the drive is shown with the title of the disk correctly, and it lets me right click and select 'explore'. However, if I try to run the installer from the disk I get the above error message or something similar, i.e. 'D:\ installer is not a valid win32 application'.

Does anyone have any ideas about this. It used to work fine but has not let me install anything for the last few months. Apart from the standard windows updates I have not installed anything new.

Oh, it does still let me play DVD films ok and I can copy files from a DVD disk to the hard drive, it just doesnt let me install games from the disks.

Thanks for any help you can provide.

Answer:Laptop DVD drive error 'D:\ is not a valid win32 application'

See if you can do a system restore to before this started happening. If that doesn't work, then if you have a retail XP disk, run a repair install.

I am moving you to Windows XP support.

While I did read this topic, and tried to comply with all of your instructions as given, it has simply become impossible to do anything more than what I am doing right now - and even that much is apparently aminor miracle (this is my friend's laptop I'm trying to help him with). So - what's happening is that any and all actions that would entail accessing a .exe or .com or .bat (basically any executable file) causes the computer to bring an "Open With..." dialog bog with a list of programs in it, in which you can sometimes click the browse button & find the correct program, but most of the time not. I think I just got lucky last night when I managed to install Malwarebytes on it, and although the full scan did turn up quite a few items of interest, including a BHOTrojan, there wasn't really anything that would explain all this. There arent any other symptoms - say for instance, any popups happening - and a 2nd full scan with Malwarebytes says thew system is clean. Oh, I almost forgot - those .exe the computer says its missing? Well, they're all right where they are suppposed to be; however their corresponding icons have been deleted, it would seem. They all have what appears to be a Notepad .exe icon instead. Have you guys ever seen anything like this before?

I've recently had a huge bout with growing trojans downloading themselves on my computer, and had finally reinstalled and everything. I left my storage drive unformatted, because I thought it wouldn't be infected. However, it seems that something made it through. What happens now is that whenever I click on my drive, it automatically tries to autoplay it. Even if I try to just open it, i get the same msg of "resycled\ is not valid win32 application". Only when I choose to explore it can I get at my files. I looked around the place, and everyone seems to agree its an infestation, so here I have included my HJT log. Hope someone can help me soon. I recently had a new computer built for me. When I tried to load a new game "F.E.A.R." using the DVD, I received the error message D:\not a valid Win32 application. When I replaced the game with the CD-ROM version I was able to load the game no problem. I can use the drive to burn CDs, DVDs, watch movies, etc. Last night I loaded a game disk on my virtual E: drive using Daemon Tools. When I tried to load the game onto my computer I received the same error message E:\not a valid Win32 application. I have no clue as to what is going on.

Can anyone point me in the right direction? Thanks.

My new laptop XPS M1530 by DELL with Vista 64bit and a 500GB hard drive came with 4 partitions already in use. I shrank OS C: to give me 150GB's of unallocated space and tried to format and rename it F: so that I could install the Windows 7 Beta and the machine tells me I have to many partions already in use to make another. Apparantly you cant have more than four partitions on this machine. The question I have is can I use a partion manager or some other solution to have more than four partions on this laptop?

when i restarted my computer then my 4 partition are gone,

i tried to change the drive letter but following error occur

partition wizard also shows the drive lable bt all the drive letters are '*' and when i tried to change the letter it also shows the following error

what do i do? i dont want to loose my data in it

Answer:My hard drive partition wont show!! plzzz help!!

That doesn't sound good.

Partition Magic must not be used on Vista/7.

Download the free FREE Rescue Kit Express | PARAGON Software Group

It burns itself to cd - do not format the cd.

Boot the Paragon cd - select Normal Mode , then File Transfer Wizard.

Transfer off any data you need.

After that, Use the Partition Wizard boot disc to perform "Partition Recovery" - Quick scan the whole drive. tick ALL the partitions you want to recover , OK , Apply.

Far wiser techs than I are going to ask you for details, such as external USB? HD enclosure? NTFS [GPT or MBR]? I had a couple of flash sticks that suddenly refused to flash [work] anymore. I sure hope your HD can be brought back to life w/o reformatting. Can you attach to another computer? If so, what happens? Exactly what error message [if any] do you get?

I am a part-time computer technician when I am not at my actual job doing IT Help Desk for the bank, and I have an issue with this laptop i am working on.

Laptop specs:
Toshiba Satelite L455D
Windows 7 32bit (sticker does not say which version)
(per belarc and magic jelly bean software)
it listed this on the OS:
Windows 7 Home Premium(build 7600)

under the Software Licenses(on belarc)
Microsoft - Windows 7 Home Premium XXXXX-OEM-X...X-XXXXX(Key:"listed key here")
with magic jelly bean, it pulled the same license key

The laptop was brought to me because it would not boot. After diagnosing, i discovered the hard drive had/is failing. So, preparing to install windows again i was hoping the hard drive was just lying to me about failing. it wasn't.
I had to get a hold of the laptop's owner and he informed me he did not have any discs or anything for the laptop.
*the sticker on the bottom of the laptop (where the key is suppose to be) is blank so i think it faded? but the "Proof of license Certificate of Authenticity Microsoft" is on there nice black and bold. so this is why i had to ask the customer if they had their discs.

To get the laptop to boot to the hard drive, i had to do some work on it. I plugged it into an adapter to my computer and ran multiple different chkdsk switches, and to my surprise it finally booted to the os. Computer properties said the correct version of windows as stated above, and i ran magic jelly bean to make sure,... Read more

Answer:Extrenal Hard Drive Recognized But Wont open

We need more information.
Do you see your External HDD in File Explorer? Or This PC?
What happens when you click on the drive letter? What is the error message?
In Disk Management, does it say your drives file system is Unallocated Space? or does it say the Disk # (ie) Disk1, Disk2 etc, does it say it is Not Initialized?
Attach the drive on your friends computer. Press the Windows key+X choose Command Prompt (Admin)
Here type the drive letter of the External Drive (ie) G: and press enter (ie) G:\> At this prompt type chkdsk /R and press enter. Now type a Y for Yes to Unmount the drive. Check Disk will start and go through 5 stages and take a while.

I have a LaCie external hard drive (this one here) that was given to me by a friend, and for one reason or another W10 wont show the external drive as an option under Devices and Drives when selecting "This PC" or My Computer. I can see my SSD with the OS and the internal 2nd drive but not the LaCie. The only place it shows that it knows a drive is connected is in the task bar where it gives the option to eject the drive and in "Devices and Printers". And selecting the drive from there doesn't provide many options, it just opens the properties window for the drive. I don't even see anything telling me what format the drive is, but I have a sneaking suspicion its formatted for a Mac. Is there a way I can get this drive to show on my computer?

The only thing I can think of is to try installing some firmware updates from LaCie's website, but since this drive contains film footage (that im not sure has been backed up or not so its possible this is the only copy of the footage) I want to be absolutely certain that installing the firmware wont erase anything on the drive.

Answer:Detecting but Wont Open LaCie External Hard Drive

You are probably right that the drive is formatted HFS+ for Mac.

With the drive connected, open Disk Management (search for Computer Management > Disk Management). Here you can see what the drive looks like to Windows.

If you right click on the LaCie drive shown you may have the option to format the partition(s) NTFS for windows, or you could convert the entire disk to a MBR Disk.

If the procedure is not obvious you could post a screenshot of the Disk Management window for us to look at.

I need to install eclipse classic by Monday. I installed it about a month ago with no problems but didnt use it for a while.

On Friday I clicked on its icon and it wasnt working, I wish id taken note of what it said but I think it was something to do with not being able to access a file.

Its probably worth mentioning that you cant actually uninstall eclipse. Theres no uninstall option so you have to search for eclipse and then just delete all the files you get.

I downloaded it from the website( again. It comes in a zip file. I unzipped it and I was pretty sure that it looked different already. The eclipse.exe file had the eclipse icon as its image the first time I tried to install it (or atleast im pretty sure it did) and now its that white square with a blue frame thing (looks kinda like a 2D oven). I click on it. It asks me if I want to extract all or run. I have taken both options and they both lead to the same conclusion; a message saying "blah/blah/blah/elipse.exe" is not a valid win32 application.

I have tried to deal with it in the following ways:
I downloaded the windows 64 bit version. This led to the same result.
I searched for eclipse and deleted everything that came up. Then I downloaded it again and repeated the process. This led to the same result.
I scanned for virusess with spybot, norton and avast and got none.

OK, this is admittedly a strange one...

I have used an old (probably a 16-bit) application as my time synchronizer this I've used for quite some time. Its name is TimeRC, and is a great synchronizer as it tracks moon phases along with the time (from selectable, multiple potential time servers). After a fatal software crash a couple of weeks ago, I'm in the process of recovery. Attempts to manually launch the EXE, result in a launch-time error stating that the ap is not compatible with my Windows 7 Pro (SP1). Note that I'm running on the same level of Windows that I was using prior to the crash/re-install. I have inhibited compatibility checking (Group Policy adjustment) only to incur the Win32 error.

I've been through the litany of utilities (registry) to correct this situation, and I KNOW that this ap runs just fine on Windows 7 (from pre-crash days). I am at my wits end trying to avoid this situation. I suspect that there is a registry setting difference (now versus pre-crash) about which I'm ignorant, so I'm open to any, and all suggestions.

To use an alternative time synchronizer is not an option...I'm anal about how my system looks, feels, and performs!! I've even tried running in XP mode (virtual machine) to no palatable result. Note that I don't have access to the program's source code, otherwise I could recompile!

Greetings to you at Bleeping Computer. On Saturday June 8th I installed a new (and larger) Western Digital hard drive. I downloaded "Acronis True Image WD Edition" software (from Western Digital's website) and used it to clone my old hard drive onto my new hard drive. I removed the old hard drive. My computer is about 6 years old, it is running Windows Vista Home Premium.
Now when I try to open Windows Mail the following happens:
I get a window titled "Windows Mail Storage Recovery" that says: "Recovering the Windows Mail Database". That window disappears and I now get a window titled "WinMail.exe" that says: " Windows mail could not be started. The application was unable to open the Windows Mail message store. Windows Mail was unable to locate its message database. If you've move the database files to a new location, click OK to Reset the database path to that location. Otherwise, click Cancel to proceed, any existing messages found will be available under Orphaned Accounts. (0x00000000).
I click on the OK button and I get a Window titled "Browse for Folder" which already has the "Windows Mail" folder highlited. I click on the OK button and I get a Window titled "WinMail.exe" that says: "Windows Mail could not be started. The application was unable to open the Windows Mail Message Store. Well...a cloned drive is an exact programs that worked before should work on the cloned drive, assuming no drive problems.  I'd have to assume that problems now...were problems before the clone was made.
Why did you change drives and clone?

I REALLY hope someone out there can help me with this!

I have a failed hard drive/ stuffed partion, and i DESPERATELY need the data from it!

A computer was brought into me with two hard drives. The owner asked me to set up a duel boot with vista and XP on the first hard drive, and to leave the second hard drive alone (its his backup drive with all his photos, movies etc) I was working away as per usual, when i noticed the second hard drive was no longer coming up in Windows Explorer. Well it was, but not correctly. whenever i clicked on it it said 'would you liket to format the drive?' obviously, i didnt want to do that.

I ran Partition Magic 8.0 which showed the drive was only 8Gigs (it should have been 1T or 1000Gigs) Partition Magic also said there was a problem with the drive and offered to fix it. I agreed, however there was no change.

I've run a number of programs to try and fix the drive:
Acronis Disk Director Server 10.0
Partition Table Doctor 3.5 Demo
Dtidata Partition Repair Tool
Recover My Files v3.98

However, all the partition repairers claim that the drive is only 8 Gigs, and they can go no further. All the File Recovery Programs will only scan for 8 Gigs, and thus, i can not recover my clients precious photos and videos.

The BIOS comes up as recognizing the drive as 33Gigs?

I really REALLY need the data from this drive! Does anyone know how to fix my problem?

Thanx heaps in advance,

Answer:Solved: Hard Drive/ Partition Problems! My 1T Hard Drive appears as 8Gigs?!

I've used ZAR to recover files from a RAID box that seemed to have been corrupted due to a bad power supply.

You might check it out. It's free. Meaning it will only allow you to recover so many files at a time. I bought it, and like it.

They have a forum that is monitored quite often, from the developer too.

Good luck.

Answer:i wont to swap my 80gb sata hard drive for a samsung 320gb ide hard drive. i a

No the cables are not the same, SATA and IDE are very different.

So ground info is needed though....

What motherboard do you have, make and model?
If you dont know this info then Everest Free will help just tell us what is listed under Computer > Summary > Motherboard

or tell us if this PC is a OEM build as in HP, Sony, Dell etc again model and version number is needed.

These days most or majority of motherboards that employ SATA only have 1 at most IDE connections, so if your using 2 CD/DVD drives the connector capacity will be full.

If you do have a spare IDE connection, then my advice to you is to keep the SATA drive as the primary C: drive ( as they are faster in data transfer than IDE ) and use the ID drive as storage, so once the IDE drive is installed copy all your normal data/music/video/image etx files to the larger drive and just use the SATA for the OS and applications.

I just ran STOMPSoft Virus X-Terminator and now most of my programs wont launch. I Get the error message [Program Location] Is Not A Valid Win32 Application. For example when i try to run Ad-Aware I get C:\Program Files\Lavasoft\Ad-Aware SE Personal\Ad-Aware.exe is not a valid Win32 Application.

Answer:not a valid Win32 Application

Did this happen to Ad-aware before or is this your first time running Ad-aware? If this is the first time, try reinstalling Ad-aware.

Otherwise, I would check for any viruses/trojans:

If you have a fast internet connection (broadband), run an online virus scan at TrendMicro. Just follow the instructions on the site to run the online scan. Otherwise, make sure your antivirus program has the latest definitions and run a full system scan.

My machine locks up when the screensaver goes on (it's an old one with the two animated guys from Guinness, who go "Drink beer straight from the bottle?! BRILLIANT!" - the screensaver, not the computer). So I restarted it. I've had to do this a few times over the past few days. So today I tried to open Firefox, and it didn't work. I tried to open anything, GOMplayer, Winamp, none of the shortcuts would work, they all came back with an error message saying they're not valid Win32 applications. I tried typing in Firefox.exe into the Run prompt on Task Manager, but that had the same result. Finally, I typed a URL into the run prompt, and it brought up Firefox. I downloaded Avira, but when I tried to install it, the error message popped up that it's not a valid Win32 application.

Interestingly enough, I the path to a JPEG saved on my computer into the Task Manager just like I did with the URL, and it opened right up in Windows Picture And Fax Viewer. Video files bring up WinAmp, and spreadsheets bring up Excel, and yes, these I have all these set as the default programs for these types of files. So programs themselves will run, but I can't start them myself, for some reason. How can I fix this?

Answer:Nothing will run, nothing's a valid Win32 application.

Try a System Restore.

Whether that fixes it or not, read the following and post anew in the Spyware section; to get cleaned out.

This is not a malware problem so I'm moving it to the Software Forum.

You may have just lost the file associations for jpg files. Inside Photoshop you should have an option/setting somewhere to setup File Assocications. Make sure Photoshop is associated with jpg files (and any other files you want it associated with).

I was able to recover it from quarantine and restore it, but since then I cannot merge ".reg" files with my registry. Or restore the original regedit.exe files as opposed to those recovered from quarantine?

Hey, i have a very annoying problem and i hope you could help me!

Since yesterday, everything i download and try to open is "not a valid win32 application", while all archives i try to open are "either in unknown format or damaged"(archives that i download), and every torrent i download is not a valid torrent file!

i can open everything except the files i downloaded yesterday and today.

i read about a bagle, or beagle or something like that. i was thinking it might be it, or just another stupid bug

i'm using 32 bit vista home premium 6 build 6001

the files i tried to open are definitely not corrupted! i tried to download vuze, a new version of msn, about 20 different torrents and so on. nothing works.

also another thing i noticed, is that sometimes firefox stops at 3 kb/s or 2 kb/s and just freezes the download. i wonder if it's related?

Probably infected other computer I am working on unknowingly...I have tried CCleaner and superantispyware but get the same not a valid....
did scandefrag, nothing obviously wrong in the JHJT log...
I download everything from reputable sites.
I know I haad that invalid win32 thing before and then downloaded superantispy and did some tweaks of the command prompt and SASW found a worm.
The sucky thing is we both have dialup, so I am trying to avoid having to wait hours upon hours for stuff to download and then not work because of the win32thing.

Answer:not a valid win32 application

Welcome to Major Geeks!

Let's see if we can get some info so that we can determine which system file has been corrupted. That way we can try to replace it.

Download and save the below to your PC (save it anywhere you can find it. The Desktop is fine). Then double click on it to run it.

It should take a couple minutes to run. You will see a black command prompt window while it is running and it should close when it is finished. Once it finishes, attach the c:\avplog.txt
Now download and Run exeHelper

Please download exeHelper to your desktop.
Double-click on to run the fix.
A black window should pop up, press any key to close once the fix is completed.
Post the contents of log.txt (Will be created in the directory where you ran
Note: If the window shows a message that says "Error deleting file", please re-run the program before posting a log - and post the two logs together (they will both be in the one file)
Next, try running the below online scan:

Reboot immediately after scanning if it finds and removes anything. Let me know if anything was found. See if you can save a log with it and attach it in the next reply.

Now run a scan with MGtools and attach the log. Using MGtools

Next post please attach:

log.txt (from exeHelper)
SAS log (if you can)

Hello all

I can't open my photos or pictures anymore because it keeps saying 'JPG is not a valid win32 application'. It never used to do this so I'm sure I've done something wrong. I have tried for ages to fix this on my own but I can't. Please can you help me?
Thanks in advance

Answer:JPG is not a valid win32 can I fix this?

a *.jpg file opening gives a not vallid file error

solution to this is that the link in windows informs windows to open *.jpg with a program that is not correct win32 openable .

2 possible common causes.
the link is wrong
the file is wrong
for instance if you have extentions hidden , something could be displayed as namehere.jpg
what you wouldnt see is namehere.jpg.scr
and that would be a virus , but mostly people are warned enough about those nasty things so they have virus protection , and if that would have been the case your virus scanner would of had a busy day :)

so picking the first possible cause , the wrong link
easy enough you can right click on the jpg file and you can then select " open with " rollout menu to the side then the option open with if im correct wich causes a dialogbox to pop up informing you of a list of all the software programs currenly active installed in windows.

jpg file i would prefer to open with something that always works and normally present in windows either windows imaging ( wich is in the list ) or MS paint . both should work .
later on when you have the hang of this you can obviously change it to photoshop ect ect.

hope this helps .

Dear all,

This is Justin, I have learnt a lot from this forum and I have decent computer knowledge.

I really in need of all your help. I have 3 Operating system installed in my computer 1) Windows 8.1 pro 2) Windows 7 ultimate 3) Windows XP

I have HP deskjet 3520 series all in one printer.I have successfully installed the printer in Windows 8.1 and windows XP. However when I try to install the software in windows 7, I get the error "%1 is not a valid win32 application".

This installation fails at HP Photo creations. I have attached the screenshot

Things I have tried

1) Uninstalled and reinstall HP printer atleast 2-3 times
2) Extracted the setup file using 7 zip and tried installing from the folder
3) Checked for infections and did not find anything
4) Ran chkdsk /f /r

Referred below link but unable to perform steps as I was not sure which services I had to modify
Event ID 7000 and "%1 Is Not a Valid Win32 Application" Error Message When You Start a Service

PLease Please help me in resolving this issue

Answer:Not a valid win32 application

Are Win8.1 and XP both 32 bit? If so then my guess is the printer software is 16 bit. Try downloading from here: Software & driver downloads HP Deskjet 3520 e-All-in-One Printer | HP? Support

Hi guys I need some help trying to figure out whats wrong with my PC. As of now every time I start up I'm getting this dialog pop up box which says " Application cannot be executed. The file divxupdate.exe is infected. Do you want to activate your antivirus software now?" I was also getting a pop up ever time I tried to open up certain programs stating something along the lines of blah blah " is not a valid win32 application" Its preventing me from running housecall as well.

Also when I open up Hijackthis it comes up with a dialog box saying

"For some reason your system denied write access to the hosts file. If you hijacked domains are in this file, HijackThis may NOT be able to fix this
If that happens, you need to edit the file yourself. To do this, click Start, Run Type notepad C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\hosts and press Enter. Find the line(s) HijackThis report and delete them. Save the file as 'hosts.' (with quotes), and reboot. For Vista: simply, exit Hijackthis, right click on the HijacThis icon, choose 'Run as administrator'."

But when I attempt to right click on Hijack This there is not run as administrator option like there usually is for other programs???

I already attempted to use ccleaner and cleaned my registry along with my files even though I probably shouldn't have.

If anyone has any idea please let me know thanks!

Answer:.exe is not a valid win32 application

After you do a clean install of Windows XP Professional SP2 and then restart the computer, you need to install the SP3 upgrade and then restart the computer again.

After that's done, go to Windows Update and do a scan. There will over 100 post-SP3 high priority updates waiting to be installed.

Your goal is to get Windows XP completely up-to-date and install any necessary device drivers BEFORE you start installing a bunch of programs and extras in that computer.

That computer appears to be a very old HP/Compaq laptop with an Intel Pentium M 1.50 GHz processor and 512 MB of RAM.

Don't expect it to be fast and snappy.

Let me thank you up front, you've helped me with a few issues similar to the one I'm describing here.

My son's computer runs fine, but he thought his computer may be infected, and it seems it is. Avast has picked up a few files associated with Antivirus 2006, 2007 etc... according to the filename searches on the internet. His computer seems to run fine for games like (WoW, Call of Duty etc..), internet and whatnot. It shuts down slowly if at all and that's a problem, but that's the only problem we've seen.

Anyway I ran Avast and up popped warnings of VIRUS and ALERT. I moved the files in question to the chest, but soon decided I needed professional help. So here I am.

One of the first things I read was NOT to do anything if the antivirus program finds anything, so I'm tell you now I did move some bad files to the Avast chest like I said above. But that's all I've done.

According to your instructions I should first run the dss download, but I get an error "cmd is not a valid win32 application" . I searched a few forums about this error, but I'm still unable to find the cmd file and I've even searched for hidden files and folders in the WINDOWS directory. So I dont know how to proceed.

His computer : emachines T3302 with extra memory, otherwise as-is from the factory. Windows XP Home.

Hi, I'm just new to these forums and am having some terrible problems with my computer, so please bear with me and give me some support

Upon downloading an application I found that when I click on the download and select "Run" I get the message "XXX.exe is not a valid Win32 Application" XXX of course being the name of my download, not an actual file name. My antivirus is also somehow missing. This of course also means that I can't download a new antivirus or any program to attempt to fix my computer, so I may have to rely on a completely manual method of repair.

I have also found that when I save an image its download size is 0kb, another major problem =/

Please give me some advice about how to rectify this problem, preferrably one that does not involve resetting to factory defaults as I have misplaced the recovery disks.
Thanks in advance =D

If I try and run these programs I get the message "xxx.exe is not a valid win32 application".

This is what happens when a friend attempts to install Corel v.12 from the original CD.
If he places Disk 1 in the drive it shows a Corel logo and then spends ages with the "spinner" before showing the title error message - E:\ is not a valid Win32 application.
He must be doing something wrong!
I would guess that he is doing something like a double click before the software has had a chance to spin-up by itself.
Any idea much appreciated.

Answer:E:\ is not a valid Win32 application

Site thinks that a link that I was going to post is spam! Basically it's an installation problem caused by a registry error or malware (unlikely from a CD) or a conflict with something else that is running. Try installing without anti-virus on.

I am trying to install a program and the setup file won't run. I get a message that says "Setup.exe is not a valid WIn32 application."

I've scanned it and it contains no viruses and I'm not sure why it won't run. Does anyone have any ideas?

Answer:a non-valid Win32 application

It may be damaged or it's possible that the file is not really "setup.exe" but something else that was accidentally renamed. Where did you get it from? Go back to the source (to the CD, web site, or wherever) and grab it again.

For some reason, whenever I attempt to click my D:\ drive to use the CD i put into my computer, the message "D:\ is not a valid Win32 Application" comes up and nothing happens. This has never happened before, and I just had a massive overload of viruses, so I'm assuming it has something to do with viruses affecting my computer. And I'm pretty sure its not my CD that has the problem, since I tried another CD and it showed the same error. Does anyone know of a way to run my CD? I only need to run it once (I'm attempting to run the Windows XP CD to completely wipe my computer since its becoming very bad). My computer is an hp intel pentium 4 with 512 mb of ram (yes i know it sucks) with windows SP2EDIT: I found the answer...It seems that both disks were infected. I just tried both of them on another computer and they both did not work. Sorry.

Answer:D:\ is not a valid Win32 Application?

What do you mean the discs were infected ? ?Even if by chance they were this would not be the error message you would recieve...if even you would recieve one...probably not.

Hi everybody.I have came upon a slight problem.I have just recently fixed my brothers computer, and he now has a small problem. He plays a game called Freestyle Street Basketball. He told me he clicked on the game, and it started updating.Well, the update froze,so he went into the task manager and went under processes and ended the process on the update.(Update was running under admin.) Is there anything i can do besides reinstalling it? He told me it takes forever, and he would like to avoid that process. Btw. The program and its files have no viruses.Downloaded from a trusted source, and just checked with webroot.

Answer:Not a valid win32 application

It would be worth the wait to re-install it...then re-boot and grab the update. He can't play it now anyways so the lengyh of time it takes to re-install shouldn't matter anyways.

Okay, so here it goes. I recently installed my new motherboard (Intel D945GTP), new memory (1 gig DDR2), and a new video card (GeForce 6600 OC 512MB).

I have everything else working fine on my computer (had an issue with drivers before), except my DVD-ROM. I'm using an LG HL-DT-ST 4521B 52X DVD-ROM. Every time it tries to autorun any CD, it says D:\ is not a valid Win32 application. I've tried a number of CDs, none work. I've also used 2 other DVD-Rom drives, and I get the same reaction from them. One is a Sony, and the other is a LiteOn. I've also played around with the jumper settings on all of them, to no avail.

I can explore any CD, and I see the files that are on the disc. When I try to run any executable, I get this error: "D:\setup.exe Only part of a ReadProcessMemory or WriteProcessMemory request was completed."

I have googled this a number of times, and still have found no action or workaround that works for me. I've tried copying the files from the D: to my hard drive. Some files will copy, some won't. Particularly executable files won't.

To the best of my knowledge, I have the most current drivers available for all my hardware. If anyone knows ANY reason why this may be happening, I would be forever in your debt.

Thanks in advance,

Answer:D:\ is not a valid Win32 application

Woot. I fixed it. So this is for all those out there who are lucky enough to come across this forum page looking for this answer. Change your cable. That's right. Just change the little cable that connects the ROM to the motherboard. Simple as that.

When I boot my computer, I get this error message.

Anyway, I tried deleting it, then it bugged me that it was missing. Restored it, and still a problem. I tried a virus scan with my outdated Norton 2003, and nothing. Im scanning with Ad-aware at the moment as well. I believe it is located in the WRONG section and is pretending to be a windows critical file.... What can I do? Its also crashing my World Of Warcraft. (Really annoying)

Hi, ok first off all im swedish so i dont know very much english.
Ok, so I'm coding in a program called "Pawno" (a pawn editor)
Pawno is used for GTA San andreas multiplayer, Called SA-MP.
When i try to open a script with Pawno it just says: C:\Dockuments And Settings/Oscar/My documents/script/LARP.pwn is not a valid Win32 application (.pwn is in association with Pawno) And same goes when i try to compile a script (from .pwn to .amx)
The thing is, I can open Pawno and from Pawno open the .pwn file, but cant open the .pwn file first.
When i take another GTA san andreas script program and compiles it says:
>%l is not a valid Win32 application.
And at last pawno uses a separate compiler named pawncc.exe, wich exists in my pawno folder.

Anyone please help!

Answer:is not a valid Win32 application

XP does not recognize "Pawno" as a valid Win32 Application. You can open files from within Pawno, but you cannot launch Pawno by double-clicking an associated file.

This sounds like normal behavior for XP. Meaning that if there is a problem, the problem is with Pawno and not XP.

Do you know of anyone else that is able to launch Pawno by double-clicking on an associated file ? If not, I would think the issue would be best addressed to the manufacturer/author of Pawno, and the defect may lie there.

However, in general, uninstalling and then reinstalling applications frequently fixes a lot of problems.

I am hoping someone can help me with this issue.
I have downloaded some games from for my son.  I save the .exe files to my desktop.  When I try to run the installation files, I get this error:
C:\Users\GINA'S~1\AppData\Local\Temp\APNStub.exe is not a valid Win32 application.
When I click OK, this error pops up:
Could not execute the external program C:\Users\GINA'S~1\AppData\Local\Temp\APNStub.exe.
I have HughesNet as an internet provider.  Due to the limited daily usage, I initially used the HughesNet Download Manager and IE8 to download the files.  Since I got these errors when running the installation, I deleted the files.
I get my Shockwave membership through my internet provider.  I am can only access the site through my internet provider's main customer page.  While in this framed page, I downloaded the files with IE8 again, but I chose to download from the browser instead of scheduling it with the manager.  I still received the errors when I ran the files, so I deleted them.
I completely turned off the Download Manager so it would automatically download from IE8 without even trying to go through the manager options.  I still received the errors, I deleted them.
I even tried downloading them from a different browser.  I used Safari since it is the only other one I have downloaded on this computer.  I still received the errors.
I never had this problem... Read more

I just can't download the LAN driver. Actually, I would rather try to delete the file and try to download it again. But when I try that, it still doesn't do that, it just trys to run, so I assume its still somewhere else.

Trying to download Burger Island 2 from, who I never have problems with. At first my virus protection AND my computer were stopping me from launching it. I threw it on the safe list on my virus protection, I have made sure I have all the Windows Updates and have cleared my temporary files. Still no joy. When I go to play the game, I get that the file is not a valid Win32 application. Any tips?

Answer:Not a valid Win32 application

Well, judging by your "OS:" field, under your profile; it says you have a x64-bit OS, meaning you can't run a x32-bit program file, so the alternative is to find a x64-bit installer of your video game.

Could you give me the link to where you're downloading your video game from (not, but the actually link to where you're clicking "download" and it shows you the download dialog) this would help me find it for you and it would save you time.

any suggestions would be appreciated! Thanks for your time!

Answer:*.exe is not a valid Win32 application

What Windows version are you using?

But in general when you get that error, the download is most likely corrupt, try downloading again. adn as its a largeish download try a download manager like this one and see if that helps.

Also check that the game supports your Windows version and hardware, would check but my Japanese is none existant, although did see a review somewhere else and its min spec is low anyway PIII 512kb ram and 64mb video
