Preferred Solution: rich editing/plain text

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Okay, I have a nice corporate email signature on the bottom of each email.

It looks great in HTML,
I have also check inside the txt and rich signature files inside
:c/doc&set/%user%/programfiles/microsoft/signatures..etc
to make sure it looks good in those formats. and it would seem okay in those files.

When I open a new message to compose in outlook, it auto opens in html. when I change this
to rich text, there is an error>
it repeats my web address and also reveals and web address from my past company!

how is this hidden, and how can i remove it?

Thanks in advance.

Hello to all of you. This is my first post. I hope that this is the appropriate forum for this particular problem that I have.

This morning I accidentally forgot to restore some text to a Rich Text Document (rtd) before closing it; as a consequence I lost that portion of text (which is a portion that I didn't have the luxury of losing). Is there a way for me to regain that portion of text after the fact of having lost it? (I haven't been able to figure out a way to do it.) If someone can provide me with instructions as to how I can do that I would appreciate it. And if it isn't possible that I can do that then I would appreciate someone confirming it for me so that I can just let it go and move on to my next fiasco.

Sorry if I picked the wrong spot. Nothing seemed to match my inquiry. I am having a problem with my wordpad retaining rich text when using the copy/paste feature. It was working until recently when I had to reinstall windows. I believe it may just be a feature I have not selected, but for the life of me I can't find the option, and I suppose it could always be something up to no good on my system causing this. What I am trying to do is copy and paste text directly to a text editor just as you see it, so that I can then paste that text into an ebay listing tool. I can't just paste it directly, it won't let me (thanks firefox) without causing lots of formatting issues. If anyone knows a simple way to do this (note I do NOT want to deal directly with coding and html, just the rich text that you see normally), please share! Thanks

I've tried dozens of programs. I've websearched for hours. I now come to you on bended knees. First problem: I want to be able to set a hotkey, that inserts a pre-defined line of text into any text editor. I want to do a bunch of different ones. Say, ALT+SHIFT+D = [email protected], and ALT+SHIFT+C = I love you too, honey. I want to be able to do this so I don't have to get carpal tunnel typing in the exact same same word or phrase hundreds of times a week. I couldn't find a program that worked like this, or I couldn't figure out how to make it work (like AutoHotKey... I read the first page of their tutorial three times and each time I needed an aspirin afterwards), because I am not a propeller head and thus incapable of wrapping my mind around any language that isn't the king's English. Second problem: I want to be able to copy plain text and paste as plain text, but I do not want to CTRL+ALT+SHIFT+C or WINDOWS+V. [<Removed link by Moderator - ETAF> I just want to CTRL+C, CTRL+V like I've done my entire life. Like I've said, I tried a bunch of them, and the few that let you choose the hotkey, for some unfathomable reason pout and stick their noses in the air when you ask them politely to set it to CTRL+C or CTRL+V. Thank you and have a great week!

Hello, Am not totally computer savy, evident by the fact it took me five minutes to find the button to submit a query, but enought about me. I do not know when this started happening, am sure must have been something I did, however, all messages I receive from my friends, in plain text format, turn up as garbled coding in the remarks section. I can go to the attachments and open and see, i.e. jpg file, pps display, wmv, etc. Any files received in rich text there is no problem. Only the plain text files. Surely there must have been a setting I messed up?? Would appreciate any help. Will say this is the fourth forum I have asked this question on with no results. So still hoping!!!

Answer:Oe 6 Text Versus Rich Text

If someone tries to send anything other than a text message...in text format...it probably looks like junk. It is a very limited format, with little formatting and other options available. Pure and simple.

The text format is not like the .doc format...pictures, etc. cannot be included as part of the message. This format is only for word messages, no frills.

Rich text (.rtf) is entirely different and more flexible, allowing use of graphics, text, and formatting options not found in the .txt format.

Soooo...if it were me, I'd go back to the sender and see what the garble might be.

Question: Rich Text and ASP

Hey all,

I have a rich text control on my page and need to pass the formatted text into a rich text memo field in an access database. The problem is, when I attempt to update the database, it throws an error saying I might be passing threatening code.
here is the exact error:
A potentially dangerous Request.Form value was detected from the client (ctl00_ContentPlaceHolder1_FormView2_FreeTextBox1="<STRONG>Rotary</STRO...").

Does anyone know a way for me to legitimize this operation?

When I access my Hotmail account using Firefox and I want to reply to an incoming email, and I click to enable the color and graphics extension sometimes I have no problem. Other times, either the email to which I am replying disappears or the html coding appears in it; the coding appears only in the email to which I am replying and not in the text I myself type as my reply. The color and graphics extension works fine when I am just composing an email and not replying to one.

I don't have this problem if I access Hotmail using IE6 and use Rich Text.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to what is wrong and as to how I might correct the situation? Thanks, grandpaw7

Question: Rich Text Format

I recently upgraded from Windows 98 1st edition to Windows SE. Afterwards, I found that I can no longer paste text as RTF in either MS Word or wordpad. I reverted back to Win98 1st edition and I found that RTF pasting worked in both applications. I redid the Win98 SE upgrade again and the RTF paste again no longer works. Are there any .dll's that are missing or registry settings that need to be changed?

I have Outlook set to create and send email in HTML. However, everything seems to go as Rich Text. I'm using Outlook 2003. The Mail format options are set to compose in HTML and to use Microsoft Office Word 2003 to edit e-mail messages.

I have the same problem even when I turn off the option to use Word as the e-mail editor.

The usual symptoms of Rich Text are happening. Recipients who do not use Outlook get the winmail.dat attachment and can't read it.

I've checked everything I can think of, but this still happens. Any help/guidance/suggestions will be appreciated.

Hi - I am hoping somebody out there can help me with a frustrating problem I have with my hotmail account at the moment.

My 2 month old Dell desktop has suddenly stopped me from applying the rich text format when composing a hotmail message. In fact it will not even revert to standard text only mode, and sends blank emails. In fact I see I have the same 'Error on page' message in the left hand corner of the browser with this website where I am writing this mail, as I do on hotmail new message window. I get the following error message:

Error: 'L_Default_Body_Style' is undefined

I thought it was a Java isssue, and have since uninstalled and re-installed it, but with no luck.

Any hints ?

I am running Windows 8 using Hotmail as my email. When composing an email, I used to switch to Rich Text to vary the colour of the font. Now if I click on the "A" in the Hotmail title bar, the colour table drops down, but as soon as I move the cursor, the table disappears, making it impossible to change the colour of the font. I should point out that this only occurs in IE 10, Mozilla Firefox works fine. Can anyone advise please.........Dave

FYI, I'm not an expert in this area, I am simply sharing my experience so that others can avoid the frustration I felt. I just finished a bitter struggle to the end to reconcile the differences between my computer and a mysterious problem I was having using the Rich Text Editor on this forum. Okay, so that sounds a bit melodramatic. The story goes like this: I was experiencing two problems using the editor on here with RTE enabled (in my settings) and one with it turned off. FYI, I'm using FF10.After entering the full editor from Fast Reply, or after clicking Preview Post, everything in the editor would be formatted just as in the preview. Well, almost everything. Some things were wrong. That means that, instead of plain text with BBCode and emoticon code, in the EDITOR I saw the preview of the codes, and I couldn't edit the coding.
If I used list tags and either went from Fast Reply to the full editor, then previewed once; or if I previewed twice, some of the list tags would be displayed incorrectly. Usually the first one or two * would be okay but, after that, they'd be replaced by <li>. When I paid close attention, I noticed that the first time there was a preview in the editor, the affected list tags showed up as bullets, not numbers, and the second preview both the preview and editor showed <li> for the broken * tags.

There was only one way to fix this problem. Before pressing "Use Full Editor" or Preview Post, I had to cop... Read more

So all I can use is a text document or WordPerfect X3.

I've got a screwy one goingon here. A friend uses outlook express to read email, and when he receives mine (sent from AOL web mail in rich text format), the links show as plain text.

When I send using "plain text format" from AOL web mail, the email shows the links correctly, and he can use them to go to the web site...

I am scratching my head as to what's causing this... others who receive my rich text formatted email say the links show fine and work... any ideas? Thanks!

Hi,

My manager wants me to always send emails in Rich Text Format. The problem is I am working as a tech support guy and we get automated emails in our Support mailbox in Plain text format whenever support calls are logged. So when I pick up the emails in our Support mailbox, I sometimes forget to change the format from Plain text to Rich Text before acknowledging the email. This irritates my manager because he is adamant that I always acknowledge emails in RTF. Is there any software that can alert me that the email is not in RTF before I send the email? Note: I have already set to Rich Text the option Compose in this message format.

Thanks

Hey all.

The situation is: I would prefer to use Firefox all the time but it doesn't sit well with Hotmail's rich-text editor. If you access Hotmail via FF and then try to reply a mail, the included original text turns into plain-text HTML code.

So I try to turn off the rich-text editor by using IE6 (WinXP SP2) to access Hotmail, but I can't. The same pop-up would come up warning that formatting will be removed from signatures and draft messages, and the rich-text toolbar would remain in place.

I looked at this post:
weblink = forums.techguy.org/showthread.php?t=390383&page=2
but it didn't help.

I've mailed MSN support and followed their suggestions (changed security and advanced options back to default) and still no luck. Am currently waiting for their follow-up mail.

I've replicated the problem on two different PCs and using two different Hotmail accounts. So I can safely assume that it's to do with the programming of that site?

Just want to put this out here to try my luck with you guys. Thanks.

p.s. Yes have considered moving away from Hotmail but I thought that there has to be a solution. M$ can't possibly force ppl to use HTML in Hotmail right?

Hi,I'm used to using message software (i.e. Notepad or Wordpad) to write notes, messages and even compose emails, which I later just paste into a compose window.  If I use Wordpad or a similar rich text editor, I can copy-and-paste the message into OE, for example, and not lose any formatting (i.e. italics, bold, etc. are still there).  But if I paste it into, say, my compose screen at Fastmail webmail, no formatting is seen.  OTOH, if I compose an email in OE in rich text/html and then paste it into Fastmail's compose window, the formatting is retained. No, this isn't a question about Fastmail.  I'm wondering what explains the loss of formatting in one instance and not the other.  I'd like to be able to compose messages (i.e. emails) in the software I use more frequently anyway (Wordpad, et. al.) as opposed to an email client.  But I would like to be able to copy-and-paste it into any compose window -- of an email client or webmail client (where the compose window is set to compose in hmtl) -- without losing all the formatting in the process.  (Oh, and I don't want to send the rich text as an attachment, but as the body of the email itself).  Any comments appreciated.

My wife is running Windows 98 SE. She has a Hot Mail account. Starting yesterday, her Rich Text Toolbar disappeared and no e-mails could be sent. She can receive new e-mails but cannot send any. We note that Hot Mail suggests that when you go to Tools and click on Rich Text Off, it actually means it is on, and so you should be getting the Rich Text. We have done that. And while it shows Rich Text off, it is not, in fact, on.

I was wondering if anyone else is having problems of this nature or have had? We have written Hot Mail and are awaiting their reply. In the interim, I thought I would see if any of you guys have any thoughts.

Thanks,

Answer:Solved: Cannot open .RTF (Rich Text File)

Off hand I don't believe it's a permission on your computer so much as it is a permission with Outlook. You may want to mention this to your IT team at your job or the system administrator. Outlook can be set on the server end to block particular types of files (like rtf files) or to restrict access to which files you can open and what you can do with them.

When you said you opened it on a co-worker's computer, was this under your account (i.e. you logged onto his computer with *your* account) or was it opened via his email account and under his login name?

The fact that you were able to get it open on your computer if you used your yahoo account suggests it's not a permission set on your particular computer. If it was, you wouldn't be able to save it via Yahoo either.

My recommendation is to talk to whomever manages your company's email accounts to see what permissions are set up on your account. Hopefully that fixes it. If not, let me know.

Thanks,

JFresh

When I attempt to use the RichTextBox control that I added to my toolbox in VB5 I am notified that VB cannot find my authorization information and that I don't have user's authorization for that control. Opening the help box tells me that this is an Active X control and that I am missing registration information. The above description is not "word for word" because I'm using the Chinese edition of VB5 and it gives error messages and help information in Chinese. I've just roughly translated the meaning. Is my problem because I have the learning edition and not the professional or enterprise edition of VB?

I was trying to open a RTF file from a website, but when I tried to open it I got hexadecimal numbers and other garbage. What should I do?

Answer:Problems Opening Rich Text Documents

what program were you using to open it.

You need a word processing program like word, lotus or word perfect.

You should also be able to open in notepad.

If it is full of garbage then it's not a rtf file, it's probably a word .doc that has just been renamed and not saved as .rtf

Hi ;

I am having problems setting Jarte Word Processor as my default rich-text program. It was all okay earlier in the week but I noticed the other day that all my .rtf files would all suddenly open in MS Word '07. I tried to change the settings in the Folder Options>File Types, select .RTF extension>Change>select Jarte from OpenWith box>OK.....but the Folder Options dialogue box does not show the "Apply" button. So when I close it all .rtf files "still" opens via MSWord compatibility mode.

Even if I set it to open to WordPad via the same procedure it "still" opens in MSWord.

I remember I installed some critical updates which I dowloaded manually from the Microsoft site prior to that. They are:

Microsoft Security Bulletin MS10-033/MS10-042
KB978695- Security Update for Windows Media Player
KB2229593
KB975562
KB979482

Previous installed updates prior to this .rtf problem (Note: no problem with the .rtf opening in Jarte Word) are:

Microsoft Security Bulletin MS10-035/MS10-034/
KB982381- Security Update for IE8
KB2286198
KB980195
KB980218

I tried to do a system restore prior to installing the updates but it was still the same behavior.

Tried NirSoft's FilesTypeMan freeware to change default program to open .rtf file from MSWord to JarteWord but instead it opened using WordPad . Still "not" JarteWord.

I use JarteWord as draft writer tool mainly because it loads much faster than MSWord and uses low resour... Read more

I am a musician who uses the 'rich text document' program for lyrics to songs. The margins are set to allow as much text on one page as possible but thatisn't the issue. The issue is; I double space the lyrics so I can use the line between the lyric for (letter) chordsymbols over the word I want for the chord change. example: G D7 1. BENEATH THE CROSS OF JESUS, I GLADLY TAKE MY STAND G THE SHADOW OF A MIGHTY ROCK, WITHIN A WEARY LAND C A HOME WITHIN THE WILDERNESS, A REST UPON THE WAY G D7 FROM THE BURNING OF THE NOONTIDE HEAT, AND BURNING OF G G+ THE DAY.everything looks good in print review but when I print it out the chord symbolsdon't match the word beneath by 2 to sometimes 4 spaces. Is this something between the text and the printer or somehow am I not using R.T.D.correctly?Thanks for your time.Mike:0)

Answer:Problem with Rich Text Document program

It might be because your using a font with a variable width. In other words, an i is going to be narrower then other letters, and letters like w or m are going to be wider. Try changing it to a fixed width font like courier.

I have a document written in Rich text, which I want to convert into MS Word. Can anyone tell me how. Thank you

Answer:Convert Rich Text Document to MS Word

Just open the document with Word then "Save As" a Word document. RTF documents are compatible with Word and probably all other wordprocessors.

I am using Outlook 2002. When I change my settings under the "Mail Format" tab to convert outgoing to Rich Text, my emails do not show up with bold or underlined after they are sent.

I have changed every setting i can find in the Mail Format tab, and I have not been able to get the Rich Text formatting to send bold and italicized emails.

I would use HTML formatting, but parts of my email are in Russian and for whatever reason the Russian parts of the email are not being encoded properly in HTML. Those parts of the email show up as ???? ????? when you view it.

The russian works fine in Rich Text Format, but I have need to be able to make parts bold etc for editing.

I am willing to try anything that might work, please help me find either the simple solution I am missing or a creative one I haven't thought of.

Appreciate any advice.

Zach

Some contacts have somehow been coded to reply to them ONLY in Rich Text. I can only see this when I click on their name in a message received from this. I highlight the name, right click, and it shows to "reply to this receipient in rich format" and there is a check in a box there. I can remove the check, but is this stipulation also somewhere in the contact address book. I can find no where in contacts where you can specifically state that messages to this person should be in rich text. My options are set to plain text. The message coming in to me is not in rich text format. Any thoughts?

Greetings,

I have a user that when she receives an email attachment in .rtf format she can't open it and gets the following error:

%1 is not a valid Win32 application

She forwarded it to me and I can open it. We both have XP Professional, Office and Outlook 2003. Like I said I was able to open it in .rtf format, so I saved it as a .doc format and sent it back to her and this time she was able to open it. Any ideas???

Thank you in advance for your responses they are appreciated

Answer:[SOLVED] Rich Text Format Attachments

That sounds like an absent or corrupted WordPad. But rtf files should be openable in MS Word, so I suspect her file associations are not what you'd expect either. Tell her to try Open With...\Microsoft Word.

Hi there

I've been told a few times now by different people that they have issues replying to my emails or sending me emails unless they switch to rich text.

I hazard a guess that many people just give up so I need to get it sorted as I use my email for work and it's vital!

I use one.com as my host and mac mail as client.

After hours of failed online research, I wondered if anyone has faced this problem and if there's a way to fix...I don't want to make hard work for people trying to get in contact with me
Much appreciated

Here's one I haven't run into before. When I try to type a Hotmail or Yahoo Mail message I have no problem ... if I set the rich text editor off (Hotmail) or set it at Plain (Yahoo). If I set the rich text editor on (Hotmail) or set "colour and graphics" (Yahoo), I can't even get my cursor in the message box. I don't know if this is connected, but I've also been getting some weird error messages regarding scripting (I can't make head nor tils of them), and I can't seem to access some on-line documents.

Anyone know whazzup??

At work, I know the company blocks some things and doesn't have the most up to date software but things were working OK for quite some time. This morning, without any notification that anything had been changed, Yahoo Mail for myself and 2 others lost the rich text capability and the toolbar.

A search hasn't turned up any help.

I did find something that says Yahoo Mail has limited capabilities under IE7, but it was working fine until this morning.

The "rich text / basic" option under the Subject bar in the email isn't there now, either.

Thanks for any tips on how to restore email editing ability!

Answer:On IE 7, Yahoo Mail rich text / toolbar disappeared

You may need to update to IE 9 or 10. Looks like Yahoo is not supporting much for IE 7

I am not an expert in this area. I am simply sharing my experience to help other users who may be experiencing the same thing.I saw a recommendation for Lazarus Form Recovery Add-on for FF (I use FF 10). The current release through FF is 2.3, but there is a new release v3.0.5 on their website. In addition, the new version is available for Chrome and Safari, and all three can be downloaded directly from Interclue. Honestly, if you're not having trouble or not using services like Gmail, and/or you have trouble losing data due to server problems, connection disruptions, etc., it's a great tool to have. I look forward to being able to use it again!I had noticed that on certain sites that used Rich Text editors that I would experience frequent pauses during which my keystrokes weren't buffered (recorded). I type pretty fast when I get going, so I found this supremely annoying, especially when I was writing email on Gmail or writing a post on a forum that uses RTE. The pauses happened more frequently the faster I typed, so I would often have to go back and fix the errors created by the pauses. Grrrrrrr I looked through my add-ons and only found one that interacted with typing - Lazarus 2.3. As soon as I disabled it, the problem stopped.I then contacted the author via email and explained my problem. I asked to know if v3.0.5 might resolve this problem. This was his response: Lazarus 2.3 has some serious architectural problems that manifested itself when sav... Read more

I have just installed Mozilla Firefox . Does Mozilla Firefox support Hot Mail's Rich Text Editor? When I composed my first e-mail rich text editing was available. When I went to reply it had dissappeared. Open tags are showing and the contact list looks completly different. Is there some kind of tweak or configuration I dont know of? Im lost. Please keep any answers fairly simple. As Im light years away from being a whiz at all of this. Lol

Answer:Hot Mail rich text editor supported by Mozilla

NO.

Hotmail, being a MS product, uses proprietary versions of internet software. You will need to use IE for most of MS sites (gee, I wonder WHY?), as well as a few others that do not support web standards.

Regards,
John

PS, and this is in spite of a article in SLATE a couple of days ago recommending users "dump IE"---Slate is a subsidiary of MSN/MS.

Answer:How do i configure notepad to rich text format output

Notepad is a plain text editor and doesn't support rich text. But rich text format consists of codes written in plain text, so you could always insert them yourself. It's easier to use an editor that supports text formatting.

What is the significance of creating and saving Word Processed Documents in Rich Text Format? As a writer, I have experience in MS Word, Word Perfect, and Google Docs. I find that saving docs in RTF seems to create a much smaller file in MS Word, than saving a document in conventional DOC format. Furthermore, transferring files as downloads from Google Docs to Word seem to work better in RTF format than Doc formats.

I know that graphics sometimes do not transfer well to RTF formats. But other than that, what am I getting (or missing out) if I save something in Word as a RTF document? What I have noticed, when I worked in Word Perfect 12, the default file formats were generally 5-8 kb for simple letters. Using DOC extensions, when uploading from Google Docs, and saved in Word, (I have Word 2003 an upgrade disk from Word 97) that same Doc file format that used to be an RTF format expands to let's say 35kb. Is the data that is expanding in Conventional Word doc format really needed if you can get the same results as a RTF file? Or in using the Doc.extension in Word, is this Microsoft's way of just adding crap to a text file that is not needed?

When I have transferred letters from Google Docs to Word, I have seen instances where the Inside Address is double-spaced when I download it as a Word Doc from Google Docs. I cannot get the Inside Address of the letter lines to single-space. Saving docs from Google Docs to Word as RTF files, I may only have to modify one headin... Read more

Answer:Questions About Word Processing and Rich Text Formats?

As odd as it may seem, .RTF is also a semi-proprietary format (created by MS but released for general use by others) and, while it does make for smaller files, I find it to have major disadvantages in complex formatting. If my document is simple enough for an .rtf, it often is simple enough for a plain text (.txt) file, which is much smaller again.
The new Word format, docx, is a variation of XML, which is simpler in structure and leads (as I understand it) to smaller files also. However, until I get Office 2007, I can't give you any comparative sizes.

HTML means it will come out the other end as a webpage. As most PC's can resolve such format, means the recipients aren't stuck with an email in a format that they cannot use/view.

I'm currenlty using Outlook 2003: Rich Text Format (Signature) w/Logo.

Problem 1:

When I reply to an email with HTML format, half of my signature gets cut off because of the logo. If I reply to Rich Text format email, it's fine.

Is there a way to set Outlook to automatically convert HTML or Plain Text emails in to RTF, when replying or forwarding.

Problem 2:

Since using Rich Text Format (Signature) w/Logo - I have users wanting to use HTML format so that when attaching files, all files line up on top.

I have to use RTF so that I can have the logo appear.

How do I achieve having the logo appear, have the attachments appear on top and reply/forward emails without cutting off the signature.

Answer:symbols instead of plain text on wordpad

You either lost your PDF reader, or somewhere down the line, Windows somehow got its wires crossed, lost its association with it and now sends it to Wordpad instead.Wordpad can't open a pdf and never could. You need pdf software to be installed.Commonly, Adobe Reader is used for this purpose.http://www.adobe.com/uk/products/re...Personally I prefer Sumatra PDF; No adware or sponsored crap - much smaller faster and lighter - (plus you can read e-books on it as well as pdf docs).https://kjkpub.s3.amazonaws.com/sum...For now: Assuming you have Adobe Reader installed. Right click your file; Select, 'Open with'. Is Adobe Rdr in the list?If so click on it and your document will open properly. You may have to go through the 'make my default' process to make the association automatico nce more..If for some reason you no longer seem to have a PDF reader, either go to Adobe's site to download the latest version:http://www.adobe.com/uk/products/re...or try SumatraPDF, above.

Hi,I'm having a difference of opinion concerning the spreading of viruses. I am a member of an internet based club that uses Yahoo! for discussion, postings etc. The moderator believes that because Yahoo! strips out all attachments & uses only plain text, this makes it virtually impossible for me to receive a virus. I completely disagree, especially as web address & email address links can be activated.Who's right, or are we both wrong?Cheers.

Answer:Viruses- can they be spread in plain text?

plain text is safe because it contains no code or active contect - hence their OE setting for security. Email and web addresses cannot be activated in plain text in emails as there is no hyperlink - you would have to copy and paste the text to a browser / email program. Some twisted bored spotty kid is probably working on it though...

Does Outlook have an option to prevent this?

Answer:Outlook switches to plain text

The format is based on the senders options in the received email.

Remember that if the sender has chosen plain text, even if you respond in HTML it will probably be stripped out at their end.

Whether this add times to download the Mail I do not know. I now hang my head in shame as I have just realised that is exactly as I have been sending as a Mail to them ! So going into OE>Tools>Options I see I have the chance to change the basis of outgoing mail from HTML to Plain Text and when I do this the Send Picture With Message automatically greys out. It seems logical to me I should alter the option to Plain Text but I am not sure if it will affect anything other than the bells and whistles of HTML, whatever they might be.Thanks for any advice.

Answer:What is HTML versus Plain Text

As you have realised, HTML is with all the fancy bits on, plain text is just that. Even though you cannot send pictures with the message, you can still send them as attachments.Note: if your recipient has his machine set up as plain text, it doesn't matter how fancy and decorated you send your message - it will be received plain thus, you would be wasting all your efforts. Most businesses are set to receive in plain text to lessen the possibility of virus transmission.I always have mine as plain text and sent anything else as an attachment which can then, if necessary, be easily virus checked at the other end before opening.Brian

Answer:PLAIN TEXT OR HTML IN EMAIL

Plain text is safer but not as much fun.

I just created a text file (.TXT) in Notepad (expecting it to be plain text) and emailed it so I could pick it up on my Nexus 7 tablet. None of the text editors on the tablet can interpret the file (I've tried several times now, including some old .TXT files).
On investigation it seems that Notepad doesn't handle plain text at all - it allows formatting (fonts, bold, italics etc.).
Yet all the searches Ive done on the Internet say that Notepad does not support formatting, only plain text.
I'm using W7. But I've also tried XP - same again.
Am I going mad?

Answer:Am I going mad? Can't create plain text in Notepad

I think you may be using WordPad instead of NotePad. WordPad supports formatting and saves the file as RTF. Your tablet should have software that supports such files if you have a text editor on board.
