Windows user account is not auto login

Question: Windows user account is not auto login

Hi.
I'm the only user who use my PC, that means there's only one user account on my Windows XP pro,i don't use password. Now, here's the problem, it's very annoying that i have to click on my name to get into Windows everytime i start up my PC.

I didn't happen before when i use only one user account, i don't know what i did wrong this time when i reinstall my windows. Can anyone tell me how to set windows to automatically log myself in without clicking on my name, please?

Thanks

Preferred Solution: Windows user account is not auto login

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

How do I set up my PC to automatically boot into a certain user account? I have two separate user logins and one has no password on the account and the other has a password.

I want to be able to start up my pc and it will go and log into the one with no password without me having to click the icon for that account.

Thanks

Every time Windows 8 boots, the system tries to login as the last user account that was used. If the account has a password, the user will be asked for a password first thing when the system starts up; if not, the system will directly log in to the user account.
Some users in my house don't want to have a password and I have to log out of their accounts and again log in to mine every time I start the computer after they used it. I'd just prefer to start with a tiled user list, in a similar fashion as it was in Windows 7 (or after you log out in Win 8).
Is it possible to disable this auto-login feature? The only way I found involves the system asking not only for the password but for the username as well, which is hardly satisfactory. Thanks!

Answer:User account auto-login

Hello Ben,

Unfortunately, the only way is to have each user account password protected. Otherwise it will always auto sign-in to the last user account that signed out if it's not password protected.

SETUP
I have a small domain of computers and a couple user accounts. Each of these user accounts areconfigured as autologin on many different computers (e.g. the account "user1" will autologin on five different computers). The auto-login
is configured in the registry, the profile is on a network share, the profile is mandatory. Generally, everything with this setup works fine.

PROBLEM
Occasionally, the computers will get a BSOD. The particular driver/cause of the BSOD varies, but regardless of this, the behavior is always this: the computer blue-screens, then next time the computer powers on and it attempts to autologin to the previously
mentioned domain user account, Windows displays an error message saying:
"The User Profile Service service failed the log on. User profile cannot be loaded."
The only fix is to then log in as an administrator (either a local admin or domain admin) and close out a dialog box that pops up saying:
"Windows has recovered from an unexpected shutdown"
There are two options given, "Check for Solution" and "Cancel". Clicking on either of these options (or just X'n out of the window completely) and rebooting the computer then lets the domain account autologin.

Possible Fix?

It seems as if the computer is forcing an administrator to acknowledge that there was a blue screen before it lets any non-admin account log on to the computer.
Is the... Read more

Greetings,

A friend of mine has been having a recurring issue with his computer that's getting worse. I've spent hours going through the forums, but haven't seen anything about this, so I'm posting here. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

ISSUE:
He uses his computer with a password protected user account, while rarely logging in/off the password protected Admin account. For months, while working in his user account, his computer will BSOD at random times whenever he has IE11 or Chrome open. He's got malware causing him issues, BUT:

In the last few weeks, when it reboots after a BSOD, it will automatically login to his Admin account on its own, without him entering his Admin password. WTH?

I've never even heard of something like this and not sure where to start. He ran Malwarebytes and sent me an email tonight (below) that listed what was found. Over the last couple of years, he seems to be a magnet for downloading PUPs, PUMs, malware, adware, viruses, etc., that I've had to help him through.

His computer is custom built:
Windows 7 Home x64 - All service packs, auto updates turned on & current
Core i5
8GB RAM
ATI video card
AV = MSE
Also runs MalwareBytes free

His email last night:

"I received a BSOD while logged onto my user account side with Chrome and Outlook open. I went to watch TV for an hour and when I came back to the computer I must have had a BSOD and I was logged onto the Admin side. This is the second or third time this has happened ... Read more

Hi everyone and merry Christmas!

I followed the procedure found on the web, I entered "netplwiz" and did uncheck ?Users must enter a user name and password to use this computer".
There is no password set.
THere is just one user/account which is obviously also the administrator.
(the Account tab shows also HomeGroupUser$, but I guess is a default option...)

the point is that when I switch the pc on, I have to click on the icon of the user account in order to see the desktop. Is there any chance I can login automatically without even clicking on the user icon?
thanks a lot in advance

Hello

When I booted up my Acer netbook yesterday, I saw two user icons shown on the Windows login screen instead of one. Aside from my own, the other user name was 'spcnywicl' - not a good sign.

I logged into my own account and removed the user in the 'User Accounts' section of Control Panel. Unfortunately it keeps coming back.

I ran regedit and did a search for the above username. It cropped up in

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/Microsoft/Windows Search/CrawlScopeManager/Windows/SystemIndex/DefaultRules/7/

The bottom entry was

Name Type Data
URL REG_SZ file:///C:\Users\spcnywicl\Appdata\*

Any thoughts on what to do next?

I currently have Eset Smart Security 6, by the way.

I got my son a Dell 2 in 1 laptop and set myself up as Administrator and set up an account for him.
It worked fine for a few days. But now he can't login to his account.
The password is correct, but it gives the error
"Windows can not connect to the Group Policy client Service."

I am able to login to the Administrator account. I know the laptop is still able to reach the internet. So, I don't know what the problem is here. The error gives no info on how to resolve it.

Hi,

i just had had this same issue occur, I solved it by doing the following:

1) in the search bar bottom left type - command - left click the found "command prompt" and select run as administrator
2) in the command window type - sfc /scannow - then hit return
3) this may take some time to run but it does report its progress
4) once finished reboot

you should now be able to log back in as non admin.

When you enter the login screen, one of the user account options is pre-highlighted so that if you simply press "enter" instead of selecting one with the mouse or arrow keys, it'll attempt to log you into that account. I've the need recently to create a standard user account, which for some incredibly frustrating reason is always pre-selected instead of my administrator account (the one I use). I have no idea how to change this so that the administrator account is the one pre-selected.

Yea this is a stupid thing to complain about. But I've gotten used to logging in one way, and it's super annoying every time I forget and try the old way. Especially if I'm not in the best state of mind lol.

Oh, and for some reason creating a Guest account doesn't do this. Admin keeps priority. But Standard users are evidently more important than the admin >.>

I'm the only user on this laptop and my admin account was called "HybridPC" and I disabled the windows login screen. (Turn computer on and goes right to desktop). One day the welcome screen popped up out of nowhere and I had to login. I tried disabling the login screen to where it was before and now I've screwed things up royally. I cannot login to my original admin account or find it. All the files are still there on my C:\Users\HybridPC folder, but I've lost the profile and user.
I think I messed things up further by trying to create/delete other new user accounts. I've attached 3 screenshots showing my C:users folder, User account screen and the netplwiz.exe profiles.

I've been adding/deleting and can't get back to square one. I don't see my user at all on the welcome screen.
Thanks for your help!

Top User Folder is new today and odd looking as I was attempting to fix on my own.

Hi sorry to be one of those guys whos first post is one asking for help but here I am, so I appreciate any and all help and hope one day I can reciprocate the favor I also havent seen this problem described anywhere else online and thought people may find it fascinating as well.

When logging into the Primary user with admin privaledges account the desktop no longer has files and icons it used to have, and the start menu no longer shows the list of dfault or frequently opened programs (some programs but not all are also missing from the start menu programs section) If I open my documents from the start menu it takes me to an empty folder (not even my music or my pictures default folders inside)

I also have restricted permissions and cannot change any of the folder view options (such as show hidden files and folders)

When examing the Documents and settings folder I found a new folder called "TEMP" inside are the standard user account folders (application data, local settings ,documents ,desktop, etc) these folders now contained whatever I put in the my documents folder or on the desktop. The actual user name being logged into still has its folder located in the documents and settings folder and still has its files and folders intact.

It seems that the login however now has these new TEMP folders associated with it and a scan of Malware bytes has revealed nothing more then an ask.com adware toolbar. (but I believe the virus may have been removed prior to me having ... Read more

Hi,

I'm in the process of creating a build for my company using sysprep, then imagex for deploying the image.

I understand that the autologin feature must be enabled in the unattended answer file for the built in administrator account to be enabled. I've done some testing and searching but can't find anything about stopping autologin.

Once Windows has loaded into the default administrator account after sysprep, how can this autologin be disabled?
Even if I create another user account, then restart, the computer will still autologin to the administrator account.

I am ultimately going to add the computer to a domain, this may fix the issue, but does anyone know how to disable this autologin after sysprep?

Thanks in advance

For my HTPC I would like to have 2 user options at startup. If no user is selected within 7 seconds I would like the system to automatically log into one of the two user accounts. I have seen this feature used in Linux Mint, but have no idea how to set it up in Win7. Neither of the two accounts have passwords, so this would not be any more of a security issue.

Answer:Can I Set a User to Auto Login After X Seconds?

AFAIK you can either set it to auto log-on to one account or none.

The other option would be having 2 choices in the bootloader, as there is no NTOS Kernel switch to define this it would mean having 2 OS's, boot timeout set to 7, autologon for the default or manual selection for the other (which could also auto-logon if you wished) a very tiedious means of achiving your goal, and would hinder user switching greatly.

Answer:Auto login then switch user

Hello Firebird5150 Welcome to the Ten Forums!

I haven't been running anything with a lan or other form of wake up method but perhaps what I use on both 10 as well as 7 and even on VMs to connect desktops back and forth as well as see VMs and a new 10 laptop connect remotely could prove to be a help there. Without spending on a commercial license you can use the Team Viewer program for the substitute of the usual remote access function seen in Windows.

Once the remote pc is woken up you would then simply connect to it by way of the TV program where you can switch from one account to another even when having the hidden built in system administrator account enabled. The process would be a fast logout of one and sign in to the other. That would mean having to re-enter the next account's password being the only inconvenience.

With 10 as well as with 7 the main account still requires a password there for the autologon option. The guide you will need to look over is seen in the 10F tutorial section. Sign in User Account Automatically at Windows 10 Startup - Windows 10 Forums

That's one I still have to go over here since between desktops and vms I get too busy signing in at times! I'm quite sure you are also looking to cut that time down a bit as well. The TV program will get timed out after any lengthy period of inactivity however since you are accessing one to the TV servers to see this type of connection work. Each machine connects to each other by way of the server.

Before v1607, I used the gpedit logon script to disable the automatic login of non-passworded accounts. It's been fine for all the time I've been with Win10 since release.
Specifically:

Code:
Name: C:\Windows\System32\reg.exe
Parem: ADD HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Authentication\LogonUI\UserSwitch /V Enabled /T REG_dWORD /D 1 /F

Since v1607 hit, it has stopped working. So I tried this instead, and the keys/strings were already set as it says so on the guide--so nothing to do there.

Does anyone else have any suggestions? Other than adding a password to this one account or having to type in a username/path to login (this account is for family members). Or did Microsoft bork something again?

Answer:v1607: Can't disable last user auto login

Hello Robb,

I'm afraid that the only way to stop this is to create a password for the account. You could make it something simple though to make it easy to use.

I think it might be a virus or malware. I just downloaded some kind of patch to install windows themes. After I restarted my computer, it wouldn't let me login to either of my user accounts. Sometimes it will ask for a password and sometimes it wont but I don't use passwords. It wont even do anything when I click "Turn computer off". If I let it sit there it will keep restarting every few minutes. I can login to safe mode and change/delete passwords but it didn't help.

Hi guys,
I have Windows 7 Professional and two days ago I turned my computer on and type password to my account and everything seems ok and I go out of my room for several minutes. When I came back Windows was still loading, without any error mesage, it looks good but it wont work. I tried several times to login but i can't, I even tried to login through Safe Mode- same story. The problem is that it is my admin account, I have standard user account which works but I can't use my PC properly by using standard user type of account because when I want to install something or change some system settings I have to type password of admin acc, then when I type it, my screen became dark and I can't do anything, just to turn off a computer by pluging out power cable...

Have you any idea what can cause this problem? I will appreciate your help.

Answer:I can't login to my user account! Help!

You know the password of administrator account? You know the password of your own made user account with admin rights?

What happens if you enter the wrong password?

Hi,
I have a Windows 8.1 system on a lap top that was used by a former employee. Her name was still on user name and I couldn't change it without Admin privileges (otherwise was asking for a smart card). Found out how to get in to admin in safe mode with Net
User Admin yes- then discovered that the old log in and information / desk top is no longer available. The docs are under Users (old employee's name) in C drive, but the docs and settings no longer show up and the admin log in is the only one available - no
option to change users.
When I went in and said Net User Admin no - thinking if I disabled admin user it would go back to the old log in - there was no log in available at all.

Help?

I would like to eliminate user accounts and have win7 automatically open when machine boots up. I only have 1 user account-me- so how can I get rid of it?

Answer:How to have Win7 auto open user account

Try this:

Goto your orb, type: netplwiz and press enter. Then in the window that pops up, uncheck Users should enter a username and password to use this computer, and then press OK. It should then prompt you for the user/password to auto login. That should work for ya.

Does anyone know of a way, or an app, which would allow me to have my user account picture update every the login / lock screen is displayed?

Basically I have a folder full of images that I like to use as my account picture, but instead of changing it every week or whatever, I'd like for it to change every time I login, so next time the login/lock screen is shown, it's different..

Does anyone know of anything like this? Or would be able to make a simple script to do it?

EDIT: Ok I've made a script which updates the user profile .bmp file, but changing that file does NOT update the user profile picture if it's a local user (it works for domain users apparently).. Any idea where the actual edit needs to be made / what cache needs dropping?

Thanks for any help!
Chuckun

Answer:Auto-changing user account picture?

Hmmm. I fired up Process Monitor (PM) and was not able to see the step(s) that you need to do to get the desired results. You might want to spend more time on it than I did. Filter PM on Explorer and record/monitor the events that take place when you manually change a user's picture via Control Panel > User Accounts.

The profile bmp that you mentioned can be deleted if this is for a local user account - even after a restart, the user image is coming from somewhere else.

If you really want to dig into this issue - you can run PM from one user account while you log off and on to another user account. PM should show you where W7 is getting the image from for the log on screen.

I am Arun Kumar Kushwaha and I have discovered one Big Loophole/Security Leak in Microsoft's Windows 7 Operating System worldwide.
through which we can Access/Delete/Copy/Replace Important Data without Cracking/Resetting the Login Password in Windows 7 OS
and for this we not need any 3rd party Software/ CD/ DVD/ Pen drive/ CMD/ Script/ or any other means of hacking Devices/tool.

only through Windows 7 OS we can Access anybodies Computer Around the world, and user will never get to know that his/her computer has accessed by someone else.
This is purely Microsoft's Negligence towards user's Around the world.

U can assume how much serious is this Issue, if anybody can steal confidential Important data of Company/ Govt data/ or any other Sensitive Personal data of anyone who are using windows 7 OS.

I have Talked through telephone to MS India regarding this Issue and they told me that there is no loophole in their OS and can't be accessed by anyone without having Login Password or User need to Reset login Password with tool/software available.

also i have mailed to MS Technical support Team and also asked about this issue on Windows worldwide official support forum, but not get any meaning full response from them.

I am asking this message to here, coz i want to Spread this issue around the world, so every user can secure their Data and also MS can rectify this issue by releasing an OS Update.

Thanks for reading ..

I did a clean install of Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit some 5 months back and created following users account :-
User 1 admin
User 2 admin
Guest account standard (default)
Admin (default)

Till recently, none of the other accounts were ever used I was using Users 1 with admin privileges. I have noticed that none of the account including default Guest and Admin accounts work. Upon trying to log it returns with following error “The User Profile Service failed the logon. User profile cannot be loaded.”

I deleted all the non functional account but default Admin account (which again doesn’t work). Created new account via CP with no success. Even newly created Guest Account (default) throws the same error.

I searched the forum for solution and found that I need to manually delete SID key. I don’t understand what I need to delete and attaching the screenshot for perusal.

To recap I currently have just 2 login; Default Admin and created cmc – admin
Help appreciated.

Hello cimage.

You have more than 1 account named administrator? I wouldn't even use it for one account, causes too many conflicts.

Have a look at the tutorial at the link below; it was written for Vista but the topic is relevant for Windows 7 also.

I was having trouble shutting down my laptop (programs freezing and such), so stupidly I held down the power button, even though it was accessing the hard drive sporadically. Anyway, I've since rebooted and now whenever I try to log into my user account, I get the message: "The system could not log you on. Make sure your User name and domain are correct, then type your password again. Letters in passwords must be typed using the correct case." At first I thought I may have corrupted my user account files, but I get this message no matter which account I try to log on with (including the Administrator account). So anyway, I can't get into safe mode either because that also requires me to log on as somebody and thus gives the same error.

Does anyone know if I might have corrupted some file that can be strategically replaced, thus magically allowing me to log on again, or is the whole situation hopeless and I'll have to reformat?

Thanks for any help you can provide.

Answer:Login/User Account Troubles

You may want to check out this site on lost admin passwords:
http://www.petri.co.il/forgot_administrator_password.htm
You can try the first option, if that won't work, try using one of the bootable floppies, I have tried this myself on Windows 2000 Pro and XP and the floppies always work. Good luck!

The old Administrator account may still be there, try booting up in safe mode to see if it is, if so log on and try a system restore from there or possibly even deleting the new ID.

I have taken a couple of screenshots, as they better describe my issue.

Can anyone shed some light here?

Thank you very much!

Alright so for some reason ever since I've "upgraded" to Windows 10 from Windows 8.1 I've been having numerous issues with my computer taking a very long time to boot and I've noticed it is logging me in sometimes without asking me for my password at boot. I really want to stop the black screens as waiting 5-10 minutes every time I turn my computer on is annoying. Also I don't see why it would log me in without prompting for my password as why else would I have a logon password? Please if someone knows how to fix my slow boot with black screen where it seems to be sometimes logging me in automatically that would be great thanks!

Does anyone know of a way, in Vista x64 (using terminal services hack, so i can login 2 diff users at once)... to make it, so when the first user logs in on windows startup, i can automatically have the second userid log in (and run an app)..

Basically i'm trying to find a way to do this, so i can run the magicjack application under this second id, instead of the first, so it doesnt popup when playing games or other full screen apps (upon getting phone calls)..

I'm guessing this isnt possible, but figured i'd ask ..

Thanks

Answer:a way to auto login a second user/vista (and run magic jack software there)..

You don't have to do any hack to allow multiple users at once if you just want the software to run in the background. Just create a second user, log in as that user and set up the Magicjack software for that user.

Then create a scheduled task that runs at startup using the same command line that Magicjack puts in the HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run for that user. Specify that the scheduled task run as that user. I specify a 1 minute delay before startup on the scheduled task I use. With this method, you can't switch to the other user's session to use the caller id function of the software.

The unofficial Magicjack forum has a lot of differnt tips for running as a service and whatnot: http://www.magicjacksupport.com/

Hi.

I recently changed the settings on my computer's administrator account to deny access to third party cookies (can't remember how I did it or how to change back), I don't know if that effects the limited account, but now I can only login to email accounts with the administrator account. In the limited user account Gmail and Yahoo wont even load the login page. Hotmail will load the login page but when I enter my password it says their is no connection. Other logins, like here, seem to work.

I have XP sp3, IE8.

Is there any way that I can fix this so that I can login to email accounts using my limited user account?

Thanks.

I have two user accounts on my PC - Staff and Administrator. I loaded Win7 a few days ago and created the Staff account. Earlier today, I changed the Staff account from an Administrator to a Standard account. I was logged on as Staff when I did it. I then logged off and back on and when I did, only the Administrator account was on the login screen.

The Staff account still exists under Local Users and Groups. I disabled it, restarted and then reenabled it but no change. I don't think that it had a password when I deleted it - I don't add the password until I am done with the machine to make it easier - so many reboots.

The PC has Win7 Pro x86 and is on a workgroup. Any help would be appreciated.

Hello JolietTech, and welcome to Seven Forums.

While logged in to your Administrator account, see if you may be able to enable the Staff account using one of the other options in the tutorial below.

Just as a followup, the problem seems to have been fixed by changing the user profile type to "local". Now, if I can just figure out why it was being changed in the first place...
Recently, I added Windows 2000 Pro to my system. I've been using it pretty exclusively, but I've run into a problem.

The problem started a couple of weeks ago, for no discernable reason (I'm sure there's one, I just don't remember it!): My user account started hanging on login. I could log on to it fine, though, if I logged into the Administrator account first after a reboot, then logged into the user account.

That is no longer true. Now the user account hangs every time. I know that the problem is with one of the programs that autostart on login. Problem is, in Win2kPro, I don't know how to turn off programs for that user account only!

I want to turn off all auto-starting programs, and see if that fixes the problem. If it does, I'll turn them on one by one, logging in and out for each, until I find the problem program...

I suspect the problem is with Norton's Systemworks 2002 suite, but I don't know where. I'm reluctant to just uninstall it from Admin, because I've already received Bugbear once this week, and don't want to leave myself open for possible further attacks.

Appreciate any application of Clue that you can provide. I'm pretty savvy with Win98SE, but am still in the learning curve with Win2000.

Hi all
Mods feel free to move to appropriate sub.

I am having a issue with a network drive and Win10
ASUS AC 3100 router with a usb connected Western digital My Passport portable 1 tb drive.
The issue is when I attempt to access, I'm told to login to a live account. I forgot the password so I went thru the recovery procedure and Live said there was a problem with the account and delete the account and re-establish. I figured once the account was gone no problem, except the PC still wants a live password for that particular account.
1- What do I do now?
2- login for the PC is a pin, can I use the same pin to access the drive?
3-if so how?
4. Should i re-establish the Live account

Thanks

I have a Dell Inspiron 9300 running Windows XP. This weekend Avast warned me I had trojans so it wanted to run boot scan. I let it run and it said it found a few things which I told it to delete. After that my computer would boot up to user accounts and then when I put in my password it would say loading personal setting and then go to blue screen. I went into safe mode and ran spybot, adware, deleted cookies, temp files and ran anti-malware scan, disk check, defrag, disk cleanup. Still no luck. I have attached the logs below. Hi,

I created a secondary user account on my PC. When I try to login, it will look like it's logging in, but it just logs back out, returning to the main screen to choose an account to login to.

If I'm logged into my main account, and I switch users and try to login to the newly created secondary account, it logs me out of my main account, and doesn't login to the secondary account, and once again, returns to the main screen to choose an account to login to.

This also happens with the guest account.

In addition, it does not give me the generic error: "The User Profile Service failed the logon. User profile cannot be loaded"

How can I fix this?

Answer:Created user account, unable to login

Hello Dutch,

If you create a new user account of the same type, will it allow you to fully log on to it?

If so, then you might consider using it instead and copy over anything you want from the old account to the new one.

Hope this may help some.

Thanks for your help.

Hi 7forum!

This is my last resort, so please help me!
I have after a long time searching ended up here on this forum.

What I want to do is simply to remove the picture & frame on my login screen, only the password, my name, switch user should be left on the screen.

To clarify, I don't want to:
Remove the whole login screen.
Remove password protection.
Remove anything else except for that picture and frame.

Thats pretty much it, I would be really thankful if somebody could help me with this because I'm close to changing to linux just to get rid of it .

Thanks in advance!

Tsuun

Answer:One last try, Get rid of User Account picture on login screen.

I'm thinking a transparent .png picture would take care of the profile picture. As for the frame... that's above my pay grade right now

Hi

A couple of months ago I had to take my HP TouchSmart in to get a new fan put in, when It came back it had a user account called 'test' on it. I assumed the repair guys set it up to test something but I've tried deleting it and it just shows back up at the next login. As far as I can see there's nothing on it so I don't know why it won't delete, does someone know how I can get rid of it?

Thanks

Hi Everyone!

I noticed that I have an additional account shown at my login screen. It's not a user account I created, and it doesn't show up under Control Panel>User Accounts. The only thing that shows up in the User Accounts page is my user account (shown as admin), and a guest account (shown as off).

I'm wondering if I should be worried about this second user account shown at the login screen, or if there was a way to remove/hide this 2nd user account from showing up at the login screen? I'm not sure how it came/shown up in the first place. I'm hoping someone can explain this issue to me and/or help! Thanks!

Answer:2nd user account at login screen, Should I be worried?

Your forum system specs indicate that you use Avast for your antivirus app. However, did you ever use ESET? If so, then please see this post. If not, then use Windows (file) Explorer to see is there is a user folder (C;\Users\username) for this additional account. If there is a user profile folder for this additional account, then the date on that folder and its sub-folders might give you a clue about how long the user account has been active.

I thought I read somewhere how to do this but can't find it anymore.

Anyway, I want to remove the user account pic at the login screen. Not change it but remove it completely so all I have is a clean background (I've already removed the background picture and set it to a plain grey color).

Thanks for your help.

Somehow I have forgotten my password for my user account. Honestly I don't remember ever making one but nowadays I tend to forget plenty. For those wondering how I could have forgotten the password I haven't used my computer in almost 6 months.

I've tried everything I can think of. I've tried every password I've ever used and to no avail.

Then I used ctrl alt del to go into the other login screen and to login as administrator but that didn't work either. I tried "administrator" with no password, then "administrator" with "admin" as password, then "administrator" with passwords I frequently use. Nothing. Computer says check user name/domain/password.

Iam wondering: when I go into this login screen the "user name" window is already filled in with "photekxl," a handle that I frequently use (as you see here). If the window is already filled in does that mean I definitely have an account with that name, even though I don't remember the password?

Also tried "guest" with no pass and it says my guest account has been removed and to "contact the system administrator." Funny.

Please tell me there is a way to get into my files as a guest or something without having to login somewhere? Boot from a CD? Hack into it somehow? I have lots of school and work related files that I simply can't lose so reinstalling is not an option unless it's the only one. PLEASE HELP!!! Appreciate the responses.

I will start by saying I am new to the tech support forum thing, and this is my first site. I am an intern at a company working with a team who supports local and of site end users and maintaining the whole network functionality. The whole network is windows xp and windows 2003 server for file share and mail. Today I went to install a new printer and then logged into the user pc to whom needs the printer. I logged into the domain with my admin account to install the printer driver, the driver had been added to a folder on the network which is mapped. I installed and everything was fine. when the end user logged in her desktop was different so she called, and i checked it out, when she logged in rather than using her account it created user.domain account. No matter what we did we couldn't get her profile to load, we were able to recover everything from the account "user" but I didn't get what happened. Later that day my collegue experienced the same thing but this time the user logged onto a rogue account, what i mean is that the user was no where to be found in documents and settings. We saved a document on the rogue desktop, then logged in as admin to search the drive to find out where the document saved to locate profile, in the end it was non existant. Right after we logged into user and and all of a sudden the right profile loaded.

Does someone know what is going on?

There are 2 administrator accounts on this computer. Windows 8.1 is the OS. Desktop PC. One I have not had problems with temporary profile. The other account got a you are logged into a temporary profile. The background is black after I log in. Does this account need to be deleted and make a new account? How do I fix this?
I found this http://www.sysprobs.com/fixed-temporary-profile-windows... and did scan drive for problems. No errors were found.
I also did a sfc/scannow and I attached the results. I don't know what the results mean or how to access any of that information if I need to do so.
I wanted to know from you what are the next steps if any I need to do so that the temporary profile issue does not happen in the future.

What if anything can I do to prevent computer files getting corrupted?

Hi all
Mods feel free to move to appropriate sub.

Thanks

when my windows 7 32-bit laptop starts up and displays the login screen there is an account that it seems to want to default to called ./user

when the OS was loaded that was the original user account. since then that account has been deleted, however it is still showing up on the login screen. i believe at one point someone may have deleted this account from the user accounts on this laptop, as well as the folders associated with the profile.

does anyone know how to manage this annoying screen?

Hello,

I have been having an issue with quite a few PC's that will show multiple of the same user accounts on the login screen for Windows 7 only. These laptops are joined to a domain and all belong to the Dell Latitude family. I have searched
the webs for information regarding this exact issue but most just point towards using Netplwiz to fix it, which is not the issue I'm trying to resolve.
As my account is not verified I was unable to post the picture example.

I have a similar post on the Microsoft community as i believe that seeing the picture will make more sense then describing this. The Category is Windows > Windows 7 > Security, Privacy, & accounts > Accounts
Name of the Thread: Multiples of the Same User account is showing on login screen

I'm using a P4 with XP Pro SP2 installed. I use ZASS for my firewall and virus protection, and run Adaware and Spybot religiously to check for spyware.

A few days ago I found that I could not log in to any of the 3 accounts I have set up. After clicking on the user icon, the right user background screen would load, and then I go back to the log-on screen and Windows says "saving your settings".

Starting the computer in Safe mode lets me log into my Admin account. I also managed to create a new user account from here, but cannot log into that one either, I get the same reaction as trying to do a login from the normal screen.

I have run all sorts of virus checkers and they have basically come up clean. Now I need some serious help as I'd hate to have to reinstall Windows!

I've a strange problem with my NetBook running Win7 Home, 32-bit. It had two user accounts (both admin) one for me and one for my wife.

For the past few months when my wife logs into her account it would run very slow. However my user account didn't have that problem. To fix this, I've deleted my wife's user account and created a new one.

When I login using the newly created user account, I get a bunch of "Windows can't open file" dialogs for ie4uinit.exe and several others.

Assuming that there might have been a malware, I've downloaded Malwarebytes and ran a full scan. After running for an hour, it returned with no malware.

More details: At some point I've also upgraded from IE8 to IE9. Uninstalled an unknown program PlayItAll media player.

Any help/direction is well appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

I am attempting to get my built in Administrator user account to show up on the login screen.

When I look at the properties, I do not see anywhere where I can assign a password to it. Nor, am I able to activate it to appear on the login screen. (Perhaps there is a different way altogether to login to it?)

The user account that I am using has administrator priviledges and shows up in the Administrators group along with Administrator. So, I think it should be the same thing as using the actual Administrator account.

However, when I try to grant permissions for users on another computer on the LAN, the Local Area Connection Properties box does not open up the "File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks.

And that is where I am stuck. I have no idea as to how to get into item and am wondering if I need to login to the Actual Administrator user account.

Thanks for any help you can give me.

Answer:Make user account Administrator appear on login screen

You can add Administrator to the Welcome screen using regedit. You would open regedit then navigate to this registry key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE>Software>Microsoft>WindowsNT>Current Version>Winlogon>>Special Accounts>User Lists.

Create a new DWORD value and name it “Administrator“ (without the quotes). Then modify the DWORD value making it '''1".

Administrator will show on the Welcome screen after a reboot.

The question is straight forward. I have one user account and one administrator account. Only the administrator account shows up on my login screen. I have my user account set up to automatically log in when my PC start's so it's not that big of a deal at the moment. I have windows XP home installed but I modified the registry so it thinks it's XP pro so I could run terminal services on it. When I connect to my PC with my iPod using RDP my user account is automatically logged out and there in lies the problem, I can't log back in without rebooting.

Is there any way to get my account to show back up in the login screen?

To start off with, first of all I've got 3 computers: my Windows 10 laptop [which is relatively new], a W10 upgraded desktop, and an aging, slow Windows 7 laptop - which my parents are using.

To help my parents out I recently tried to create a new user account on my Windows 10 laptop. It 'takes longer than expected' to do it, but it's done and everything seems fine. All I do is install Firefox on it, and that's about it.

But when I turn it on again a login to my parents user accout, the screen's blank, and I can ctr+alt+del to get the Task Manager up, but that's it. Creating an explorer.exe doesn't work, and restarting the current explorer.exe does nothing.

I've tried Googling around for answers, but a lot of them doesn't seem to apply to my situation exactly.

Any help would be appreciated.

Hi

My client has got three user accounts on her machine. Admin account, her normal account and another account.

When trying to log on using her regular account, on the screen where it shows the thumbnails and where you have the option to view the password hint, it changes back automatically to the normal standard login window with the Username as Aministrator listed in the field.

My client is running Windows XP with SP2 at least.

Any ideas would be much appreciated.

Thanks.

Answer:XP changes to Admin account login screen when trying to log on as normal user

Install SP3 if it isn't already installed.
SP3 contains many fixes & patches which aren't available on their own.

I have two user accounts on my Win7 Pro PC - Staff and Administrator.

The PC is on a workgroup. Any help would be appreciated.

I walk by it today and it is sitting at the login screen with a new user Icon.
The icon is listed as "David" as the user. I don't know any David's nor have
ever had a David as a user on this pc. There is no David when I navigate to
C:/Windows/Users. Nor is there a user David in user profiles. I looked at the

anything or not. What should I be looking for. Have I been Hacked?

Any Help Would be Appreciated

Answer:Mysterious User Account Icon on Login Screen - Have I been Hacked?

There would only be a folder structure for the account if there's been a log in. Right-click on Computer and select Manage, then select Local Users.... See if there's a David there, double-click on it and see what User Groups he's a member of. Especially if he's an admin it should be deleted asap.

I have a domain setup at home, and after joining a PC to the domain and migrating profiles to the domain profiles, the login screen account list only shows one user (the last to login) and Other User.

I have already used the method in this thread:
Help with multiple users login screen!

The PC now goes straight to the list of users, however only the last domain user is shown. If I log into another and then log out of that, the user list now shows the new user and Other User, but not the previous. It's rather annoying for my wife and I to constantly have to type our domain user name just to login. I searched and didn't see anything about this. Any ideas?

I have a Dell running Vista Home Basic. There are two accounts set up. One was for a family member who is no longer with us, and I do not know the password.
