Feedback on build for a friend

Question: Feedback on build for a friend

Hello TS! I have come here today because I am looking for feedback on a budget build for my friend. His price range is preferably $600-700 but he can go as high as $800ish. This is what I have put together so far:

I originally went with a 250GB SSD and 8GB of RAM but he thought it was too little (I was thinking external HDD+250GB). Also what is the consensus here about an i3 versus the 860K? I am thinking the quad core is better over the dual core. Also, should the cost savings from the above questions be translated to a better GPU? Finally, I read online that a 450W PSU wasn't gonna cut it so I upped it to a 750W (same price as 650W after rebate)?

Thanks for the help in advance!

He will be primarily playing DOTA 2 (eSports) and CS:GO (leisure).

Edit/Note: I will also be posting this on Tom's Hardware to get as many opinions as possible, so don't be offended D) if you see it on there!

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Feedback on build for a friend

First I have built a nice system using that board; it was great to work with. has this motherboard and that cpu as a special combo for $133.00.

Second, if that is all he is doing with his system that AMD cpu will do him just fine. i3 is an Intel cpu and when using Intel the unwritten rule is that the i5 quad core is the sweet spot for gaming. But, again, that AMD is quite fine.

Why 16 gigs of RAM? If he was doing video rendering or using intense graphic software I could see it but 8 gigs is very good for gaming. Save money and get only 8 gigs.

Corsair makes great power supplies; good choice.

I really don't know that gpu but from the specs and for what he is doing, again, it will do everything he needs.

I don't know that case. With that motherboard I used the Cooler Master HAF 912. Good room, well built, and plenty of air flow especially with an AMD because they can run hot. You may want to get some extra case fans. Also, perhaps an aftermarket cooler.

Answer:PC Build Feedback

Curious why your not getting 2 of the seagates and have a WD and Seagate selected. The WD drive is only 5400 rpm, slower and more expensive while the Seagate is 7200 rpm, faster and a couple dollars cheaper on your list. I'd personally go with 2 of the same Seagate drives if you want 2 x 1TB drives and you will save a couple dollars. Additionally if you ever wanted to run RAID you would have a balance pairing vs one drive slower than the other.Everything else looks good. Witcher 3 is a heavy on hardware game and your choice of components are a perfect match for CPU/GPU for that game.

Hi, I am making my computer and I just want a person who knows more than me on computers to just check my build and if everything is good. Here's the link to my build!

Answer:Feedback on my build

I'd go with a heavier power supply. 500 watts I feel may not be enough to drive that video card with the rest of the hardware. 650 watts is my suggestion, with a 600 watt absolute minimum. I see that there is a Corsair CX 750 watt for $60 which is what I'd go with to avoid running PSU close to its 100% limit in case you want to add more drives, fans, etc later.*Also I have had issues with MSI products so I avoid that brand. The video card you have is MSI.

I'm new to computer building and I have made a list for all the components I will need to build my computer. My budget for this first computer build is 400-450 USD. I have all the necessary peripherals so I can use all of this budget for building the computer. I am focusing this PC as a budget gaming PC. Some games that I would like to be able to run on this computer with normal to high settings are COD4, Fifa 15, MW2 and some GTA V.

I would like it if you could please give me feedback on the compatibility of these components and just some advice on what I could improve.

Answer:Any feedback on my new gaming build?

A few suggestions

I think you should go with an ATX sized motherboard, the case that you have has more than enough room for one, and the extra expansion slots might come in handy one day. The Asrock extreme 4 is a good choice.

You definitely don't need a 850W PSU, a 650W will supply more than enough juice to run your rig, and will leave plenty of room to install a second graphics card if needed. The other advantage is that you can get a better quality one for the same price, such as this one.

If your budget allows it, you may want to consider upgrading your graphics card. Something like HD 7850 will give you bucket-loads more performance, and make the build more gaming oriented. If your strapped for cash, you could always downgrade your HDD and purchase more storage later if needed.

Hello everyone,

I'm currently trying to decide how to build my new pc, designed exclusively for gaming, with ultra settings in mind. I live in France, so I apologize in advance for my bad English, and for any components i refer to by their European name.

I'm looking for the best quality/price ratio, I'm a student, so relatively poor =p (pasta for 3 months in order to upgrade my computer ^^)

Thanks for all the help and advice! Here's what I have so far:

Proc: Intel Core I7 2700k

PSU: Corsair AX - 1200w

Ventirad: Noctua NH-D14 (proc cooling)

Graphics card: MSI N580GTX Twin Frozr II/OC

Memory: Corsair DDR3 Kit 2 x 4 Go Dominator GT - PC16000 - 2000 MHz - CAS 9

Hard drive for OS and games: Crucial M4 128Go SATA revision 3.0
Hard drive for storage: reusing my old velociraptor 10.000 rpm, since I have 4 1TB externals for real storage.

Case and Motherboard: Now here's where I'm still hesitating. I was dead set on the Antec twelve hundred v3, but then opted for the Asus Maximus IV extreme-z mobo, which is eATX format, and not supported by the case.
So I'm pretty much stuck here, wondering if the Maximus IV extreme-z is really necessary, or if the P8Z68 deluxe more than enough (intense OC'ing in mind). If the Maximus IV extreme-z is really better, then I need a full-tower eATX case with very good air cooling =p

Answer:Hoping for some feedback on a new build!

If you are looking for Bang for buck then I would consider a Bulldozer FX-8 Eight Core 8150 Black Edition 3.60Ghz processor. They arent out yet but you can pre-order in the UK. They are £50 cheaper than the 2700K and the turbo clock will go to 4.2GHz. If I was looking at the i2700 I would go with the Asrock Fatal1ty Intel P67 (Socket 1155) DDR3 Motherboard **B3 REVISION**.

Your PSU is overkill unless you plan to use SLI/Crossfire at any point in the future. You could save a few pennies there.

Lastly you may want to consider an SSD for your primary dirve.

Hope this helps

I'm currently getting ready to build a new system but this is only the second time i will of built one and I'm looking to get as much feedback from people who have had more experience than me.

Asus P5Q PRO
Intel Core 2 Quad Q6700, 2.66 GHz 1066MHz 8MB Cache
4GB (2x2GB)
512MB Palit HD4850, PCI-E 2.0(x16) x2
Vista Home Prem Sp1 64-bit OEM

I have 3 HDD, CD/DVD RW, Monitor (but i may get a new one and run 2) and a case from my previous build but I am going to need a new PSU and I'm a bit uncertain about what wattage to go for, from what i do know i think i need a PSU thats about 800-900W but i was hoping someone who understands this better could give me a more accurate picture.

My case was a Gigabyte 3d aurora and while this is a very fine case, the positioning of the HDD bays obstructed the intake fan at the front and the whole cooling was made very poor. I ended up running the Pc with the side pannel off, which of course ment it was very noisy. Could anyone recomend a new case that would offer adequate cooling without being too noisy and of course is still of good quality?

I quite like the look of the Coolermaster Cosmos cases but im not sure which if either would be best. Maybe you can tell that i like the big cases (far easier to work in and are a good size for where i keep them.

Answer:Feedback on my first computer build

Hi and welcome to TSG.

A few thoughts, comments and considerations

1) Personally I would look at a minimum size of Midi Tower for the case. A gaming machine of any type with a dedicated card ideally needs better cooling, this can be difficult in small cases as everything is so cramped together.

2) I would up the PSU a bit to a better quality unit. You really don't want to be cutting costs on this part as it is a core component. Look for a good quality PSU from a reputable manufacturer, some examples are Corsair (HX, AX and RM models only), Seasonic, PC Power and Cooling or OCZ (there are others). Look for units with a minimum of 5 years warranty. Personally, I would look at a 600 - 650w model, this gives you a good bit of headroom on power and the less you work the PSU the longer it will last and it will be less likely to cause issues.

3) I would prefer WD Black of WD Blue hard drives, the blue are the budget range (I appreciate you are on a budget ). Black are generally much better units.

4) For the GPU, if you are going NVidia then the 2nd two numbers are the important ones when it comes to performance. You have chose an 7 series card model 50 (750 Ti). For a gaming right I would recommend going for at least a 60 model number (eg GTX760) if you can afford it. As a rough guide, have a look at this will give you a comparison of different GPU specs. If you compare the 750Ti and 760, the 760 has more than double the performance in all areas, but it... Read more

Hello everyone,

I'm building a budget gaming rig for a family member and I was hoping to get some constructive criticism from the community. The rig needs to be able to run modern games at mid to low graphic settings. My budget is about $800 at most. I would actually like to keep it lower than that if there are viable options at that price point, but through my own research it doesn't seem like there are any. I would mostly like to know:

Have I made any terrible choices in regards to the hardware working well together?
Where can I save a little more money?
Where should I spend a little extra money?
Have I allocated too much money to the CPU compared to the other components? Right now the CPU (Quad Core i5 Skylake) is 1/3 the total price of the machine.

The specs are as follows:

Gigabyte GA-Z170X-UD3

Intel Core i5-6600 Skylake Quad Core 3.3 GHz

Video Card
EVGA GeForce GTX 950 - 2GB GDDR5 - PCI-E 3.0 x16

G.Skill Ripjaw V Series - 8 GB DDR4 3200 (288-pin)

Power Supply
EVGA 100-B1-0600-KR 600W

Western Digital WD1001FALS - 1 TB - 7200 RPM

Thermaltake V3 Black Edition - VL80001W2Z - ATX Mid Tower

DVD Drive
Thank you in advance for your feedback and constructive criticism. I'm always eager to hear your opinions and learn from my mistakes.

GTX 960 for the same price as the 950 you listed.

What about OS, monitor, KB & M, speakers etc. Are they included in your budget?

The RAM you have selected is not on the QVL for that motherboard (are you aware of this?)

Do you need a DVD drive?

For your budget, I would be looking at an AMD build with a better GPU and if possible an SSD (and a PSU with at least 5 years warranty)

I would like to know what people think of the X64 bit build 7000 on this site?

I personally have not installed it just yet, but at this current moment, I'm downloading it with 37% complete.

Startup and Shutdown times/issues?
Playing small and large audio/video files?
Audio/video drivers?

I was impressed with build 6801 X64, and build 7000 X32bit, but from what I read build 7000 X64 is just amazing.

Your feedback please, and thank you to everybody who contributed to this wonderful site....very grateful!

I'm hoping this will be reassembly future proof and I will be looking at SLI in a couple years not a complete rebuild.

Do I need any more fans or will the case come with enough?

I've heard the 212 EVO is pretty big, how can I tell I will have enough clearance from the RAM and surrounding area?

Biostar isn't one of the better manufacturer's. Gigabyte, Asus, Intel would be my top suggestions.

Here's a similar Gigabyte board:

And here's an Intel i3-2100 to go with it:

Do you have any additional requirements? Will there by any games that will need to be played on it?

Hey everyone,

I'm about to order the parts for a new gaming build and I just wanted to get some feedback to make sure I'm not making any poor decisions. Here are my current selections:

Case: Rosewill Star Predator ATX Mid Tower

Motherboard: GIGABYTE GA-Z170X-Gaming

RAM: Corsair Vengeance LPX 16GB DDR4

SSD: Samsung 850 Evo 2.5" 500GB

PSU: Corsair HX850i 850W

CPU: Core i7 6700 Skylake Quad Core 3.4 GHz

And for the GPU I have found three options that I have some questions about:

GPU Option 1: MSI GeForce GTX 970 (PCI-E 3.0x16) (4GB GDDR5)

GPU Option 2: PNY GeForce GTX 1060 (PCI-E 3.0) (6GB GDDR5)

GPU Option 3: EVGA GeForce GTX 1060 (PCI-E 3.0) (6GB GDDR5)

As far as performance is concerned, the MSI card seems to be the best choice (higher bus speeds and utilizes the x16 interface). But the PNY and EVGA cards are $150 cheaper. If I could save $150 and still run any game on max settings, th... Read more

I am building my first PC, and have chosen these parts:

Power Supply: Corsair CX750 ATX 80+

Mobo: MSI ATX DDR3 2133 970

CPU: AMD FX 4350

RAM: Corsair Vengeance 8gb (2 x 4gb) DDR3 1600 MHz PC3 12800 240-Pin DDR3 Dual Channel

Video Card: MSI GTX 960 Gaming 4G

Hard Drive: WD Black 500GB SATA 6 Gb/s, 7200 RPM, 64MB Cache

Optical Drive: Asus 24x DVD-RW Serial-ATA Internal OEM

So are these parts good, compatible, and somthing I would want for a gaming PC?

As far as a case goes, I have a budget of $50 for this. I want something with decent ventilation, and a design thats not just a big block. So like somthing with some angles or somthing. If it has a window or glow that would be even better.
Any help on this would be greatly appreciated!

Answer:Feedback for my first computer build; also help with case

Also, will I need to buy anything else for the computer aside from these parts? Like cables or anything? I intend to run 4 monitors on this computer.

Need a server and looking for some other perspectives, input, feedback, etc! Chime in and lets have a great discussion.

Act as a File Server
Need to desginate who has access to what file shares (Active Directory)
Will be running a proprietary software application that about 10 users will be tapping for information
I assume we will be running VM's on just one box (unless the discussion says otherwise). With this assumption then the proprietary software will also need to be public facing so it should be in DMZ. Can we do this with one physical server, having some VM's public facing and some VM's like the DC and file server internal or will it require two physical servers, one in DMZ and one behind firewall inside network?
This is for a Business that requires that the server be operational for the 15 to 20 employees to do their job. So would need redundancy or easily swappable parts. I'm thinking dual power supplies or atleast power supply and an additional one in the same room new to swap incase of failure. mirroring hard disk. Etc

So several people have said "just go to Dell and pickup a PowerEdge tower like a T320". But there are so many blasted options with those as well as it may not be the most economical approach. Hence, the discussions i'm trying to get through this thread.

I assume we will be running Windows Server 2012 and Windows Server 2008 (the proprietary software requires Server 2008 ve... Read more

EVGA GeForce 8600 GTS Video Card - FREE Enemy Territory: Quake Wars PC Game, 512MB GDDR3, PCI Express, SLI Ready, Dual DVI, HDTV, Video Card

I will also move a few things from my old PC:

Sound Blaster X-Fi Platinum Sound Card (PCI)
Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 Hard Drive (PATA)
DVD+RW Drive

This would be my first build, so I have a couple specific questions. First, how close is this build to the 500W limit of the power supply? If I wanted to add a few things, would I need a larger power supply? Second, I plan to install Microsoft Windows Vista Home Basic 64bit FULL. The motherboard description says that using a 64-bit system allows me to upgrade to 8GB of RAM. Can anyone explain this? Do I just install 2GB sticks with identical specs? How do i send feedback on all the issues i am finding Because it's already updated you will need to roll back to 8.1 using the free recovery tool (just google it).
Once 8.1 is back on if you wish you can reinstall insider app and choose preview mode (not fast or slow). Then search for update which will put you back on 10586 builds that are more stable. Lots of complaints on this latest Redstone build that you have.

Question: Build For Friend

My friend is finally deciding to get rid of his Dell 4400 and build his own rig! Now he wanted me to find him a low budget computer. I came up w/ parts pretty similar to mine. He already bought some weird "professional ATX case" Here is what I got for him:

Gigabyte GA-K8NSC
AMD Athlon 64 3000+ 939 Venice
MSI 6600GT AGP 8x 128MB
1GB Corsair ValueSelect PC3200 RAM

Now as far as HD's go, he upgraded his HD earlier to a 80GB Maxtor that he wants to switch over. Now I am asking if this build will fit and if everything looks fine.

I have another question though. He has Windows XP Home on the HD, and of course it is the Dell copy. But he still has the re-install disk, and it is the full install, not partial. Could I just switch the HD over for him and not have to worry about buying a new copy? I have heard that it usually works as long as you have the full install on it.

That looks like a pretty nice build!

I dont know what Windows is gonna do when you transfer the HD. I would back up all his files and try it anyways.

Here is what he told me.

I have built this nice rig,
Amd 3500+
1 gig pc3200
80 gig SATA

Now, my problem is that when I try to start up the BIOS it just stops at a menu showing my CPU model, my amount of RAM and the IDE Master/Slave drives.
It also displays a error message, saying "CMOS cheksum error - defaults loaded"

Then it tells me to press F1 to continue but when I do nothing happens. What to do?

I have cleared the CMOS before starting it, by changing the jumper with the power cord not inserted.

A friend of mine just purchased this Barebones Kit from TigerDirect.

He also purchased the extra 2G of RAM and Win7 Home

First off, I know that the Ram is DDR2, and the PSU is underpowered. He is going to upgrade these later down the road (I advised to get the DDR3, but he has a low-budget and will have money down the line for upgrades.)

I have not built a PC so some of this is new to me. As for previous experience, I have repaired some things replaced HDD's, and cpu's gpu's etc.

He of course doesn't know much about hardware compatibility and the like, so I as always want a second opinion on my proposed part list.

We'll be re-using the following parts from the old build:

2) Hard Disk Drive (IDE)
3) Video card [possibly] (PCI Nvidia 8400)
4) Monitor
5) Mouse
6) Keyboard
7) Speakers

We will be using the following new parts:

The only specs I know of the computer are that it has an AMD A10 6800k processor and the motherboard is an ASROCK FM2-A88M Extreme 4+ motherboard.

But the problem is that when I go to install windows 7 over USB flash drive which was made using the windows 7 dvd tool on my rig since he has no optical drive. I cannot install it because once it gets to the part where you select a hard drive it says "A required cd/dvd drive device driver is missing" and wants me to browse for it. so what I did was copy the whole motherboard driver cd to another flash drive then I plugged that into the other usb port and browsed the whole contents of the cd and no drivers worked.

I ended up installing windows 8 but we have so many problems with it that he wants to get windows 7 working. I am wondering how I can get past this message and install windows 7.

Hey all.
A friend of mine wants a computer, so he asked me about it. I ran him by the basics, and we worked out this list (see below). He will be using the computer as an all-round machine.
He is on a maximum budget of $1000.
We live in Australia and will be purchasing all the parts from
He wanted a nice quiet build with an intel CPU and enough power for everyday computing usage, and occasional photoshop/gaming (Bf3 and cod). He already owns a Hard drive and monitor.
I drew together this list for him:

Is there anything you would do differently?

CoolerMaster Silencio 550 $89.00
Intel Core i5 3470 $189.00
Sapphire Radeon HD7770 1GB GHZ Edition $129.00
Samsung 830 Series 128GB SSD Retail Box $99.00
Corsair Vengeance CML8GX3M2A1600C9 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 $49.00
ASUS P8H77-M Motherboard $95.00
Samsung SH-224BB/BEBS SATA DVDRW Drive OEM $21.00
Logitech MK260 Wireless Desktop $25.00
Corsair CX-500 V3 Power Supply $79.00
Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit with SP1 OEM $99.00
Microsoft Office Home and Student 2010 Retail $115.00
Sub-total: $989.00

Answer:Budget all-round build for friend

Well I was gonna suggest a 7850 for playing BF3 but looking at the prices on that website it seems to be almost twice as expensive as the 7770. In the UK the 2GB 7850 is only about 40-50% more than the 1GB 7770, and the gap shrinks with the 1GB 7850. Some weird pricing going on...

That's a great build for the price, only suggestion I would make is that your friend can download the Windows 8 Release Preview and then upgrade for US$40 when it comes out.

I was thinking of going with an AMD dual core--the rest of course will fall into line after choosing the best processor. I want an Asus MOBO to go with the processor, and appropriate video card--the rest is pretty much preference.

The purpose of this project is to make a system that is very upgradable having as much "bang for buck" as possible and is within $2000AUD.

I will be starting with an Intel 805D, for obvious reasons, until Conroe prices come down.

I wasn't willing to spend huge amounts on a Graphics Card when I know these prices will come down in the very near future, so I choose the HIS x1800GTO which can be readliy unlocked to open 16pp and be just like the more expensive x1800xtx.

Anyway have a look at the document, all prices are in AUD and I have it @$2009 for top end RAM, Mobo, PSU and very good parts.

Thanks for any feedback.

Please if you have any serious recommendations please provide technical references/reviews and consider that parts may have limited supply within Australia but I have plenty of Australian supplier links on the bottom of the page.

I seem to have broken the Feedback Hub - I can't log any feedback ( I just get circling dots which never end).

This is on a PC where I've just clean-installed 1709 in the last few days. The problem happens on all accounts on the machine (one local, one local admin, one MS Account admin).

Other aspects of the Hub (eg. displaying news on latest Insider builds) seem to work OK, but I can't log anything.

So far I've tried
Going to the list of All Apps in Settings, selecting Advanced Options for the app and then ResetUninstalling the app using Powershell (using this Tutorial) and re-installingUsing the Store Apps Troubleshooter

Incidentally the thing I was trying to log was high CPU usage by Desktop Windows Manager - not sure if it could be related or indicative of another problem?

Just a reminder: it's great to post on this forum, but please submit problems to the Windows Feedback app, too.

Even better, do a quick search and upvote someone else's feedback.

To Microsoft, if it doesn't gain traction in the Feedback app, it doesn't exist. Yes, that's short-sighted, but that's how modern Microsoft operates.

A friend of mine sent me an Email RE a problem with a CDROM he's got in someone elses PC. here that Email

Hi Jay.

I'm working on a friends (OLD)PC and he wants me to do a fresh install of XP. Problem is that his CD-ROM will not boot on start-up.
I have changed BIOS to boot the CDROM first. No good. Changed to a new CDROM drive, wont boot from a the CDROM. I can start Win 2000 and then run XP (legit copy) setup from there but it will only allow me to do a fresh install but will not allow me to remove the previous Win 2000 partition. The only way to install XP is to install it on the same partition as 2000. Win 2000 partition is NTFS

BTW Just installed a new 40 GB HDD (only way I was able to install any OS onto this HDD was to run the 98 boot disk and install 98SE first.I tried to install XP directly from the Drompt using the command "setup" but I get" cannot run in DOS mode"

Please help I am stumped as to what to do
to fix this problem.
I have installed Windows O/S on several machines and this is the first one I have had this cdrom problem.

I have probably confused you by now, so please email me and hopefully we can figure out a solution together.
Thanks in advance for you help

I asked him if it worked when he got on to XP and if Device manager said it was working, his reply.

Hi Jaime,

First thanks for helping with my problem.

Answer:A friend of a friend's having problems with his CD ROM Drive

theres an update

Reset BIOS to default which is Floppy,HDD,CDROM. If I try to change the boot order to CDROM first, all entries change to "not installed" I can set HDD to first boot but I cannot set floppy or CD to boot sequence. It is like I have no other drives installed I have to default BIOS again to re-set boot order to the above factory settings of Floppy.HDD then CDROM.
Did not try another IDE cable. Dont have an extra one and this is not my PC. I am working on it for a friend.
Really frustrating not being able to boot from CDROM. Cannot do a fresh install of XP or even boot a CD of Linux Ubuntu or Mandriva. Have only been able to install Windows 98se which only uses FAT32 and will only recognize 8GB of my HDD space If I try to install 2000 or XP it will not allow me to delete that partition and install 2000 or XP onto the 8GB partition leaving the rest of the HDD unused. If I could boot from CDROM I should be able to format and partition entire HDD to NTFS. Then I could continue the install and all would be fine.
Note: I have NEVER had this much problem before and I have installed 98se,2000, XP , Vista, and several Linux distros on quite a few systems in the past.
Any other workarounds or suggestions?
Thanks for all your help

I don`t quite see the purpose of the graphic on the right hand side. It takes up about a third of the screen, and seems to do nothing; not even linking to the Liverpool Diocese or the C of E.Anyway, I expect the web design experts will be posting later with their comments.

Hidy ho all,

I'm trying to figure out what to do with my tax return monies. And I'm leaning more towards building a new gaming PC then anything else.

So, I put together a parts list and could use some feedback on it. There are reasons for everything on this list, mostly budgetary, some preferential.

Anywho, if you have the time, could you take a look and tell me what you think?

Question: Feedback

Good day, Interested in obtaining some feedback in regards to my website. Any and all critiques will be appreiciated. Best regards, Doug Stenrueclick here

But in my view it's doomed. I can see how hard you've worked to design and develop the site, but I fear you've lost touch with your audience. I'm on a 2MB broadband connection but your intro took forever to load. Worse (and in my view a cardinal sin), you have no 'skip' button, so all visitors will have to sit and wait......but they won't. They'll give up long before the intro fires up, and they'll click off somewhere else.Flash sites were all the rage a couple of years ago - I can remember a time when I couldn't talk to a client about a new web-design project unless I used the 'Flash' word at least once in the meeting. Now I use Flash less frequently, and then only as a component - I would never design an all Flash site today. It's true that with the increase uptake of broadband services Flash sites should be less of a disadvantage, but it doesn't seem to be working out that way. Corporate clients are asking for a clean, elegant static look - at least mine are.I found your site interesting, as I said, but there are some issues. I found a dead link - the word "amateur" didn't lead me anywhere - and my browser closed all your pop-up windows smarter than a smart thing.Orange text (is it Georgia?) on a black ground on your 'Who?' page made it difficult to concentrate - the font isn't right in my opinion. I suggest you try good old Verdana.Your 'Home' link didn't get me home, in fact it got me nowhere. All a bit negative I'm afraid, but it's only my personal opinion; some people w... Read more

not bad, i would've gone with a 9600xt or something, and the sempron's are just slightly crippled xps, but it shouldn't matter too much, overall that's not bad at all, considering that translates to like $500. you should prolly be able to play at 1024x768 with high settings and maybe 2-4x aa after you softmod that SE

Question: New rig - feedback

Ok, I have only had this rig for 12months - had to be completely rebuilt last month due to faulty parts, but I am now in the market for an upgrade - a new rig.

Anyhow, I have learnt heaps about hardwear since getting my first computer and am going to build this one myself after hand picking the parts. So, I'd just like some feedback as I pull it together:

AMD Athlon 64 4000+ 1GHz FSB Socket 939 Processor
CORSAIR XMS 2GB (2 x 1GB) 184-Pin DDR SDRAM Dual Channel
Thermaltake XASER, Armor Series VA8000BWS Black Computer Case With Side Panel Window
Antec TRUEPOWERII TPII-430 430W Power Supply

I already have optical and hard drives to put in it - I will probably buy another 1-2 hdd's anyway.

I did my costings based on USD to AUD = $1200 aprox. I checked some of these parts from Australian places and it would cost around $1500. I think I can handle that - a bit more then I wanted, but I think with these parts, well worth it.

The speakers are not causing it, as in the speakers are not so loud that they cause feedback. Yet, I'm still having feedback issues. I've done my best to fool around using my knowledge of sound and manipulating different options. Everything I've tryed has failed up to now.

I came here in search of some possible fixes to known feedback problems and work a rounds.

Right that is that out of the way lol (only joking).I have used Dreamweaver MX and Hotmetal Pro, as some editing aspects I found easier in Hotmetal. If it's of any use to anyone thinking about starting a site. I found Hotmetal a very good program to start with, though limited in some fields. Once I had an idea of how things worked it was not to difficult to get to grips with Dreamweaver. Though I do feel a quick browse through a simple HTML manual would help a lot.Well done to PCA for including a forum on Web Design,I am sure there will be plenty of postings in this new forum. And to anyone thinking of starting a site, go on have a go. But anyway, the only thing i would maybe like see changing is to move the side bar with the navigation up maybe a bit more, so that it almost touches the blue bar at the top. Just a suggestion. Question: Some Feedback

I was excited when I ordered my W510 and while I still think it's a nice laptop there were multiple disapointments. I am listing some of them here in the hopes that maybe Lenovo is listening. * Shipping (not arrival) was set to about 14 days after the order date which is longer then the 'usual' 10 days. I am not 100% sure but I do not think that there was any note that a certain component might delay delivery. This was actually my biggest issue when I bought a Lenovo for my wife. Other manufacturers are not fast either but Lenovo trails in that regard. * As the shipping date approached they pushed out the expected shipping date by another 7 days. Worse, there was no notification about that further delay. I only knew because I checked the order status online. I complained. There was no response but the laptop then shipped shortly after. I am not sure if it was coincidence or if a human being read it an acted. * Talking about human beings, it's actually quite easy to get one on the phone without having to navigate through many menu selections. On top of that, they are located in the USA and speak English very well. I applaud Lenovo for that!!!! * The display is THICK. More then 0.5". There might be some ultraportables that are not thicker then the DISPLAY of the W512. Maybe it's because I have the touch screen. * The display has a wider aspect ratio than my previous widescreen laptop. That makes the laptop even bigger. Ok, I know this is a pow... Read more

I can understand your disappointment as I have multiple disappointment too. *1. I agree this to full extent. My Lenovo ThinkPad W510 was bought from school, the salesperson told me that I will be able to collect it from their shops after 14 days from purchase. But It took me 28 days to get my ThinkPad. *2. When I called them on the 21st day after the purchase, they told me the stocks are still not available, when it reaches the 26th day, I called them again, then they told me that the stocks has already arrive long ago, I was not informed by anything. If I didn't call them back, I will never get my ThinkPad. *8. That's strange. By right, at least OEM like Lenovo should provide Factory Recovery Restore DVD (OS image) and Driver DVD. My W510 comes with it.

Mother board would be any nice one that support everything, dvd burner, floppy etc etc. Will probably tell him to add more ram whenever possible.

Question: Feedback Please

Please look at attached reports and help me figure out what is causing my issues.

x64 - Home Premium
- the original installed OS on the system? Windows 7
- an OEM or full retail version? Retail - System builder
- What is the age of system (hardware)? - 4 weeks
- What is the age of OS installation? 4 weeks

My profile should have the rest of my system information. I have tried debugging myself, but couldn't make heads or tails of the problem.

I am also getting an application hand when playing World of Warcraft. I am not sure if the report will show those events from the event viewer log, but if so any help with that would be great also.

Thanks for any help!

Answer:Feedback Please

I have checked at least 75% of your many dmp. They all show the same code 1A caused by ntkrnlmp. This is a driver that controls other drivers. We do not replace ntrnlmp as this is a Microsoft driver and rarely the true cause of the problem

STOP 0x0000001A: MEMORY_MANAGEMENTUsual causes: Device driver, memory, kernel
This memory management error is usually hardware related. See the checklist above. If this occurs while installing Windows, also check the Windows system requirements including the amount of RAM and disk space required to load the operating system.

Download memtest86 and test RAM
RAM - Test with Memtest86+

Question: Feedback

I created a site, click here , this is my first time at a proper website. and would like some feedback on it.Also how can i get sponsors or get people to find my site, i have tried entering it onto search engines nothing is working.Anyone want to put my link on there site.thanks ppl.

All I have to say at present is this:Unless you return the "Powered by phpBB 2.0.6" link to its rightful place, you're not really playing fair at all are you ?I'm not prepared to offer help or suggestions based on that fact. The bottom of your pages should read:Powered by phpBB 2.0.6and notBoredom Boundary 2.0.6 ©You're taking credit for a lot of very hard work by the developers of phpBB and the least you could do is leave the link in place. There's nothing to be ashamed about in using phpBB or Invision, or any similar product, and while phpBB may be open source you only have copyright over your site content. You have no claim on the code that is running it and your link looks very much like you're taking the credit for the web application that is running the site.If I recognised it for what it was at first glance you can be sure other web users who are familiar with phpBB will also know it as well.Sorry if that sounds harsh, but when the correct link goes back to where it should be, I'll try and help you out.Taran

I downloaded some video files onto blank discs, and although my Microsoft XP laptop sometimes plays them, it sometimes mistakenly reads the discs as blank.  How do I fix this?  Also, when I download video files on my PC, they work fine.  But when I try to play the discs on my laptop, I often have a lot of trouble, such as:  1. After a movie plays for awhile, my computer will suddenly shut down.  2. When I try to play certain discs, the computer tells me that the ClassFactory can't perform the requested action (or something to that effect).  3. The disc's video file will play, but fast-forwarding and rewinding are a nightmare.  How do I fix all of this?  Do I need special codecs or something?  Do the files play OK on my PC because that's where they were downloaded (as opposed to the problematic play of my laptop)?  Would someone PLEASE help me?HaroldtheGreatRe: data discsReply #1 - What kind of video files? What format? What software are you using? What operating system? What hardware? Did it ever work right? Any details at all?GuruRe: data discsReply #2 - Dear Guru:  Mostly AVI and DIVX.  I've tried several players, and Windows Media Player Classic seems to work best.  On my PC (which never has trouble), it's the regular Windows Media Player.  I burned the discs with Record Now!, and yes, my laptop has played some of them in the past.

Answer:A Little Feedback PLEASE!!!

I think I might have a solution to that problem.... I had the same problem too and this is what i did... When i downloaded a movie file from the internet... and i burned it on the disc... it works on my computer where the movie was origionaly downloaded.. but when i take the cd to another computer... It says cant play.... (the video is 600 mb.. size)  Here is the soultion that i did... I checked before i was burning... I had the option set to .. "ALLOW MORE FILES TO BE WRITTEN" When i took i took the check mark of that option it burned it and it works on the other pcs too... the other solution is might be the codecs... Here is a website you can download the codec from...  (Its a codec Full Pack.. and its 2.69 .mb.  That might solve it...

Answer:Feedback for this, Please!

yeah i think it is going to work, i know a little more bout amd cpu's based platforms, there is a point on memory: in case 333 is free it's good, but in the future adding 400 will require throwing 333 away because 333 will cause 400 work like 333

and don't forget cd-rw - for such a pc you need it!

Thank you for your patience. I will be helping you deal with the issues raised in your log from this point onwards

Before we start jumping into things, here is a quick basic note which I mention to everyone. The fix which I have provided for you is for this computer only, it should not be used on any other computer. Each fix is tailor made for the specific task in hand. If for some reason you have system restore disabled, then please re-enable it before proceeding, an infected restore is better than none. Please read through the fix first and set enough time aside to complete the task in one session. If there is anything you feel needs clarification then please ask - do not guess! Thanks.

If this is a computer from a work place then please advise your IT department of the concerning issues before commencing past this point.

Please follow these directions in the order they are set out for you.

I do not see any anti virus detection software present on your computer.
Without a resident virus checker you are leaving yourself wide open to infection, this in turn would render the fix useless. Before proceeding further, please download, install and update an anti virus solution. A good free anti virus software to start with is AntiVir? or as an alternative try AVG Free Edition

I do not see any signs of a firewall present in your log
The windows firewall only blocks traffic in one direction and will not prevent nasties on your computer phoning ho... Read more
