need norton/symantec tech support email addy

Question: need norton/symantec tech support email addy

Norton discovered a virus on my computer yesterday named W32.HLLW.Gaobot.gen

I could not repair, so I tried to download 'fix' file and I couldn't get on the Symantec website. I can't run liveupdate, and no matter what site I go to to get to Symantec it says not found.

I went to my neigbors and downloaded the fix, did the fix, reformated my hard drive and loaded XP home, (needed to do this and thought might as well now) got everything reloaded, installed, no problem, except the Norton, still can't live update or even get on their site

This morning I woke up to find my Norton open, saying I had the same virus again, I again, did the fix, says it is fixed but still cannot get on Nortons site?

I don't know if settings are wrong, I messed with everything under the internet security, added norton/symantec as trusted sites. I would like to just email symantec tech support, but I can't find their email address anywhere, I have even tried to guess at what it is but they came back

HELP...please someone, tell me how to fix my problem or let me know the tech support addy.

Kindest regards,
Christine

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I've been on their site for a half hour now and can't find how to contact them about the problem I am having with AOL. All I can find is useless "knowledge bases" and non-technical support. UGH!!!

Thanks!

There used to be a well-hidden location on the Symantec Web site where SOME assistance with their software could be handled by email--anyone know if that still exists--I could not locate it.

I need their help to determine how to solve the inability of the latest LiveUpdater to successfully update the Norton 2005 AntiSpam Components and Norton 2006 Norton AntiVirus Norton Program Update (English).

Although I have been a loyal Norton user since Peter Norton started the company, I will NEVER use their products again.

It is also amazing that with updated antivirus definitions, one or two of the new Zlob Trojans got into my computer and Norton could not find them or keep them out, although Panda and Ewido's online scans found these Trojans once my computer was infected.

I upgraded from norton internet 07 to N 360. When I power up computer I get a message
"Auto-Protect experienced an unexpected error 0x000003E8 3035,6"

When I tried to install N 360 got message "Extraction failed. File corrupt"

Norton online support instructed me to remove all existing norton with following link :
http://service1.symantec.com/Support/tsgeninfo.nsf/docid/2005033108162039

Did that, then the instruction was to click a link to reinstall N 360. Did that but still get the "Extraction failed. File corrupt"

Now I cannot get back to Norton support. All links just produce a blank page. I am in Thailand on a pay-per-minute connection, ready to shoot myself. help

I have been a Norton/Symantec fan and user for the past twenty years and have noted the adverse comments in this forum in respect of Symantec. In January 2005 I upgraded to Systemworks Premier 2005 from Systemworks 2003 and had problems ? support was virtually non existentEarly last year I also had horrendous problems with Systemworks Premier 2006 and Norton Internet Security 2006. Trying to get help from Symantec was like talking to yourself. I stated by e-mail to their Helpline(?) quite clearly - my setup, the fully detailed problem and the actions that I had taken up to that moment in time. They replied by suggesting the very first thing that I had indicated I had already done, - and then further replies from them went through all of the things that I had indicated to them that I had done.In the end I recalled a Ghost image created a month before and everything has gone OK until last week. I wrote to the Head Office explaining the events and my dissatisfaction - No reply.I am now in a similar position with a problem and their helpline is going through exactly the same scenario as before. I had their last reply six days ago (indicating that I had 7 days to reply) asking for further information that in fact was already in their possession. I replied immediately re-outlining the full picture six days ago with no response whatsoever. This despite a further four e-mails to them. There was a time when you could actually converse with a person who knew the software, rather than ... Read more

I like my system to be finetuned, and Norton has many services that hog up memory.

So what i did was disable all Norton and Symantec services so when i game i can have that memory. After Disabling the services by clicking Start,Run then typing services.msc in windows xp all was good for a few days then all the sudden i get some error telling me my key is no longer good or something to that extent of a message.

My goal was to disable them all and turn them all back on when i want it running. Seems they have a few services or one that led to the cancellation.

After 5 emails back and forth with tech support they simply or the one person cannot answer anything. he is just giving me run-around basically. I asked to get this stepped up to level 2 or even a 3 if they have one in the tech support and so far have received no reply.

I know Mcafee when i had it would allow me to disable all the services and turn them back on and not LOSE your account and have to be reactivated.

Sure it would be nice to go back to Mcafee atm, but spending alot of money on virus scanners al the time can get to your pocket and AVG does not detect alot compared to the big names.

Anyone else have problems or no problems with Disabling the services and turning them back on when you need it to be running ? Theres only like 7of them + or -.

If Norton doesnt give me an answer soon sure i will go back to Mcafee and they lost a customer for life. Theres no reason whatsover that you should not ... Read more

Trying to fix a computer for a customer. He has been getting an error message from Symantec Email Proxy. There is an error code 1003,13. I want to get rid of this from his system. I also installed Norton AntiVirus 2006 and for some reason I can not get LiveUpdate to connect to the internet. I am not sure what is causing this problem. He has McAfee Personal firewall on this computer as well. Short of wiping the computer clean (he does not have the system disks anyway) I'm out of ideas.

I woke up this morning to more than 300 email scanning little windows. I restarted and they didn't come back until this afternoon. This afternoon and evening they are going non stop, I don't even have an email program open. They appear to be saying I am trying to send pornographic emails out and they are being blocked from sending the SPAM. I have disabled the outgoing scanner, but cannot find a virus that is causing it. I have updated Norton and run several times today and nothing is coming up. Help please.

I was in the middle of scanning my computer of viruses/spywares, when NAV suddenly started popping small windows about scanning outgoing emails. Mail icons lined up along the notification area of the taskbar which read like emails about porn and symantec was, I guess, scanning them.

Here was what I did, I right-clicked on the notification area of the taskbar and chose Properties. Clicked on Customize on the Notification area and saw at the Past Items - Symantec Email Scanner (Hide when inactive). I then opened my NAV, clicked on Options, chose Email, and unchecked Scan outgoing email "permanently" to stop it.

What do I do now? Could this be a mass-mailing virus/spyware?

Make sure to update Windows and Internet Explorer at http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com.

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order it is mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes. You should not have any open browsers when you are following the procedures below.

Go to My Computer->Tools/View->Folder Options->View tab and make sure that 'Show hidden files and folders' (or 'Show all files') is enabled. Also make sure that Display the contents of System Folders' is checked. Windows XP's search feature is a little different. When you click on 'All files and folders' on the left pane, click on the 'More advanced options' at the bottom. Make sure that Search system folders, Search hidden files and folders, and Search subfolders are checked.

For the options that you checked/enabled earlier, you may uncheck them after your log is clean. If we ask you to fix a program that you use or want to keep, please post back saying that (we don't know every program that exists, so we may tell you to delete a program that we think is bad to keep).

Turn off system restore by right clicking on My Computer and go to Properties->System Restore and check the box for Turn off System Restore. Click Apply and then OK. Restart your computer. I have a friend with Adelphia as her ISP, and her daughter had set up a Yahoo addy but has since moved away. She has called Yahoo and deactivated the addy, but apparently it is still on her computer.I think she is using Outlook, but not sure. Often when she will send me an email and I reply,it will be returned to me because it will be the Yahoo one. How does she rid herself of the addy? Thanks Keith

Answer:Can't get rid of email addy

Is the e-mail that she sends to you show that it was sent from the Yahoo account? It is usually possible in e-mail client software to give a "reply to" address that is different than the senders address. This may be the case for your friend.

The incoming e-mail message header will usually show what e-mail software was used to compose and send the message. You should be able to examine the header to determine if your friend is using Outlook.

In Outlook Tools menu -> E-mail Accounts ... there is an option to View or Change Existing Accounts. You can then Remove any old accounts from the list.

I'm using HOtmail in Outlook Express. Is there a way to forward an email to several people without each persons email addy showing up? Don't know if that's clear - but what I'm trying to do is pass a msg along to a group of people without each person seeing who else got the msg.

Answer:Is there a way to forward a msg w/o forwarding everyone's email addy

Hi,

Copy the e-mail into a new e-mail.

Address it to yourself at another e-mail address or possibly your Hotmail address and then put all the e-mail addresses of all the other people you want to send it to the BCC field.

Now send the e-mail.

None of the people you send it to ( in the BCC field) will see the other peoples e-mail addresses.

You could also look at groups in Outlook Express.

One problem you may have is that your ISP may see an e-mail you are sending to numerous people as attempts to send spam e-mails and block it / them.

I have a T430s laptop and it is less than 6 months old. It starting getting blue screens within a month of purchasing it. Technical support has been helpless in trying to fix the laptop. First, tech support told me to turn update my computer daily. Then another tech support employee told me to turn OFF my auto updates. This did nothing and over a few weeks the blue screens progressively got worse. Next, tech support told me to run a diagnostic on my computer which turned up nothing. Then, they tried giving me recovery discs and a new hard drive. After that failed they took it in to replace the system board which made the blue screens worse. Then they sent me MORE recovery CDs to try to fix the problem and that also made the blue screens worse. I called tech support after this and they said they would send in a request for a replacement laptop. I was told I would hear from someone in a couple days. FIVE days later I got a called from someone asking if I wanted a replacement and I said yes. Then I was told I had to wait two more business days to get contacted about it. Another 3-4 business days later, someone called me to tell me that they would NOT be replacing the laptop despite the fact tech support could not fix the laptop. After calling tech support once again, I was told that they wanted me to send in my laptop again for up to 7 business days! This is completely unacceptable. I have had problems with this laptop almost the entire time I have owned it and no one knows... Read more

I keep receiving calls from fake MICROSOFT Tech support with various telephone numbers. Strange, they do not show up in my phone on line logs. They wanted me to go to FASTSUPPORT\763721586 ( do not use  these numbers). I currently have windows xp and this security alert screen comes up that reads
your computer is at risk in the following area:
firewall protection is turned off
open your norton product to resolve these issues
to prevent duplicate security status alerts use my existing norton product alerts and turn off redundant windows security alerts.

I don't have the norton antivirus cd because it came with my computer when I bought it.

Answer:how to get rid of a symantec security tech

To resolve this issue I believe you will either have to update NPF to conform with XP SP2 standards or open the XP SP2 Security center (> Control Panel) and do the following:

Select "change the way Security Center alerts me" and remove the check for the firewall under "alert settings".

The XP SP2 firewall should be enabled by default, but verify that is the case if you are not using Norton Personal Firewall.

I havnt had any emails either to validate my address, so I'm confused. Anyway now I've registered with hotmail I'd rather use that address, and I'd rather use it on windows messenger rather than msn. Am I making sense!!?Thanks guys and gals!

Answer:Changing email addy in Windows Messenger?

I just loaded Office 2003 for the first time and use outlook. I like outlook. I don't want to change software... just fix this. When I receive emails if I leave them in the inbox for more than a week or so, if I 'reply to', just the name as it was received goes into the 'To' box and not the entire address. Then I get a Check Names pop up that says outlook does not recognize that name - even if that is how I received the message.

I am sure there is a box to check off that I just can't find. Can anyone help me please?

Thanks
Mark

Here's my question...

Just recently, I have gotten spam email on how to enlarge things from, um, myself.

The sender email address is my own, in two different accounts. I did open one up and it stated the sender actual address, but I'm concerned.

Is that just some sort of java scripting or something?

Thx

It's called address spoofing, and is an old spammers trick. They do it ALL the time. (Hence how you can get spam from legitimate domains, like ebay.com)

They've either just gotten lucky in guessing at your exact address, or they've harvested it from somewhere on the internet.

I'm hoping someone could help me out. I've been told that people from my hotmail account is getting spam emails from me but I'm not sending them. The only time I ever use my email account through hotmail is when I know I have someone sending me something.

I went ahead and did the scans from the DDS by following another posts suggestion on doing the five steps found here. I hope you don't mind me doing this ahead of time.

So now I'm just hoping to find out how to fix the problem. I have already changed the password on my account to try and stop them from being able to continue (whoever it is) sending more spam emails to my friends.

Also, I didn't run the GMER because I have a 64 bit system.

Thanks for any help! :)

When I installed Win8 on one computer I need a H.P. printer driver. So I went to H.P. support/download did not find the needed driver so I called their Tech. support. A friendly support guy looked at my system and told me my copy of Microsoft Win8 bought at Best Buy was not a legit copy, also my system had been infected and they needed to remove my Win8 clean my system and reinstall Win8. made me a deal of a reduced price of $250US I knew this was not right so I begged them good buy went to Best Buy where I have good friends in the Geek Squad. they got the needed driver and printer works fine.
Today my Netgear routher died, called Netgear to get my lifetime warranty. This also was a support in India guy said it would cost $39US to make sure it was the router I said thanks but no thanks. Took my old Netgear router back to Best Bye where I bought it three years ago and they gave me a new Netgear router. I needed setup help so called Netger as new user also in India guy was friendly looked at my system and helped me get it setup. Then he informed me my computer was under attack and my files were being read he could fix my system and protect my files for the small sum of just $85US. Well I was using a small backup H.P. computer on the Net. hardwired and it was almost never used. So I knew it was a India Tech. support scam again.

Hi,
When you start typing an email address in Outlook 2007 it shows options to autocomplete the address from all the thousands of previous email addresses you've used in the past, not only those ones you've saved in your contacts list.

I need a solution to save all those 'extra' email addresses that show up.
I deal with sales and in one day I can send up to 1200 emails and saving each one would just weigh me down time wise.

If there's a program that will save these addresses please let me know, thanks.

I copied the "raw text" but all I can get from it is Yahoo's in-beween IP location i.e. some town Callifornia. I know the aprox. area of the state there in so I know it's not CA.Example; Received-SPF: pass (domain of yahoo.com designates 66.163.191.149 as permitted sender) is this like a filter that Yahoo provides to prevent IP address lookup?I'm getting a few harrasing emails from this person and I just wanted to scare him into thinking I can locate him if he keeps being a jerk.Is there a more effecient/effective way to know more about him from info. within his emails.?

Answer:Finding someones IP addy from email sent to me, Yahoo/Gmail

You might want to try an effective spam filter, which would mean you never see those emails again.

Good morning all!

I just changed my email from Outlook Express to Microsoft Outlook. Anyone know how I get my address to automatically fill.

In Express I used to be able to start typing the persons name and it would come up by itself, I can't find where that option is in Microsoft Outlook

Thanks in advance and Kindest regards,

I have a Thinkpad T450s and it is just over a year old. It still has 3 more years of warranty. Edit: Warranty type: TPJ (This product has a four year limited warranty which includes a warranty upgrade. This product is entitled to parts and labor and is entitled to Depot service).Recently the lenovo solution center gave an critical error for the HDD (Read test failure) and I submitted an online request reporting it. Without even sending me an email or contacting me, they sent me a new part and gave me zero information about it. Apparently every other person can replace a HDD now!  I have created 3 more cases calling their tech support to send the laptop for a depo repair. Everytime the request is rejected 'at the vendor' according to the customer care. Neither the customer care people or tech support can tell me why. Every time they create a new case, tell me I will receive a depo bag nect day, and I dont receive anything, have to call depo customer care and on hold for minimum 40 minutes, only to hear that the case has been rejected they dont know why.One tech support told me now I have to send the new part back before creating a new case, otherwise it will be rejected again. but he does not know how I can send the new part back. The return label sent to me was for the faulty HDD.Can anyone help? What is the point of paying for warranty if I receive this type of service?

Answer:HORRIBLE tech support and warranty support

You do not state which type of warranty you currently have, there are a few which will affect how TS will or can respond. I hope you get this resolved to your satisfaction...

So, like most people should, I use an ad blocker. Also, like most people should, sites that you enjoy or visit a lot, you should contribute to them. This can be easily done by turning off your ad blocker for that one particular site. I did that for Tech Support Guy and the ads were still blocked.

I'm using Firefox and I started disabling some of the privacy features that I use. I disabled Tracking Protection and the ads appeared. Great.. or so I thought. There isn't anyway to disable tracking protection on a particular site. Technically, you can, but it's session based. After I close FF and start it back up, it doesn't keep my individual preference for TSG.

I wasn't sure if FF by default enabled Tracking Protection or not. I mean, if it is enabled by default, then EVERY guest user that visits TSG on FF is not seeing ads, meaning TSG is missing out on a lot of profits.

So on another computer, I completely removed FF and downloaded a fresh, uncustomized copy. Tracking Protection is enabled by default, but oddly, I now saw ads on TSG. Back to the drawing board.

I started customizing this fresh install of FF and after enabling Never Remember History, I no longer had ads. So it appears that this isn't one feature of FF blocking ads on TSG, but 2. If I disable one of the features (doesn't matter which), ads appear. It's only when BOTH features are enabled that ads disappear.

So my question is how can I allow only ads on TSG without havin... Read more

I just wanna say that I LOVE Tech Support Guy. My first encounter was a few months ago, when I woke up one morning and found that my homepage had been hijacked by Searchv. I couldn't get rid of it. So I googled until I got to Tech Support Guy, and found that somebody else had the same problem. I followed the instructions and was rid of searchv. Via HijackThis. Jeez, I like that name.....HijackThis. And then came Ad-aware, and Spybot, and a whole new world was opened up to me. To top it off, it's all free. Not quite. I'm sending you guys a donation. You earned it.

I have been getting screens, such as the one attached on several occasions. When I call tech support we have to go through all the tests and nothing shows. I think my hard drive or worse, my computer is failing.  I have warranty until 01/19.  What can I do? If I keep calling nothing seems to get fixed.

Answer:No help from tech support

Remove your service request number because it may allow a scammer to access your personal info.
Always include exact PC model and version of Windows in your posts.
It's possible (1) the hard drive failed, (2)  BIOS is mis-configured, or (3) the boot sequence is incorrect.
For starters, you can power off and unplug the PC. Press/hold power button for ~15 sec. Open the case and find the cable that goes from the SATA0 connector on the motherboard (possibly a blue motherboard connector) to the hard drive. Carefully reseat the cable at both ends. Then check the power cable connection from the power supply to that same hard drive. Close up and see if it boots now.
And obviously, if it's under warranty you have to get tech support to assist. You can call them again if they haven't responded. Give whoever answers your Request number and your Service Tag. They should be able to help you.

Question: TECH SUPPORT

My computer has become very slow in loading programs such as Firefox. Once it is loaded it doesn't work smoothly as before. Not Responding message appears and everything stops working for a while. Scrolling also doesn't always work. Sometimes the arrow changes to the hourglass and stops working. After a while it changes back to the arrow again and so it continues.

Quite regularly I get the "script not working" message window in the middle of the screen with "continue" or "cancel" options. Sometimes it is the Shockwave plugin and at other times it is Google or other script. And often the end program command doesn't work. For the last few days, script error message for Internet Explorer comes on at powering up.

I have been thinking of reloading Windows but with no more Microsoft support for XP I don't know how I am going to get the updates.

I know the laptop is very old(2001) but I really use it mainly to check emails. Any help in resolving the above issues would be highly appreciated.

Thank you.

Sincerely,
shafiahmed

Answer:TECH SUPPORT

First off, All updates are available for Windows XP and will continue to be available till the end of time. There will just not be any NEW updates for XP. I just installed XP on an old computer 2 days ago and ran all of 142 Windows Updates.
As for your current installation, try running a Clean Boot. If this works then add one startup item at a time, restarting each time till the computer becomes unresponsive, then you know what the problematic program is.
Also, go to Start/Run and type chkdsk C: /R and press enter, in the command prompt type a Y for Yes and reboot the computer. Check Disk will go thorough 5 stages and takes some time. It will check your HDD for integirty.

I have a LG X120 notebook with windows XP, will it be able to be viewed threw an HAIER LCD Television.

Answer:Tech support

Hi Debbie, and welcome to TSG.

If this is your computer (http://www.lg.com/hk_en/notebooks/lg-X120-L), it has a VGA video output connector.

Your TV would need to have a VGA, DVI-A, or DVI-I video input jack. The TV would also need to support at least one of the video resolutions and refresh rates that the computer can feed to the VGA connector.

For greyknight17:

The greyknight quests in troubled lands
Where truth is hid in shifting sands;
Elusive demons there do dwell
Of deadly might and visage fell,
Wresting power from local lords
With blue screen shields and pop up swords,
They lay waste to all they see,
Leaving nothing as it used to be;
But with bright sword and favored lance,
Our champion makes the devils dance
To a tune they hear and can’t resist,
Something like: “Stop and desist”,
And in the end, their fate is writ
With mighty scans and combo script
And so with bow and courtly praise
A toast to you, greyknight, I raise:
“Thank you sir for work well done,
Evil slain and battle won;
The blue screen of death is banished here,
And we’re computing now without fear.”

I didn't get to drag a notepad file on top of Combofix like so many others.

Hello everyone. I applied for a tech support job with my local ISP. I have no schooling, just computer knowledge as a hobby for 10 years. I troubleshoot all my friends and family's computers pretty well. What kind of short term schooling could help me land a tech support job? I feel I have the knowledge but could use a basic course to put on my resume. Any other advice on computer jobs that are a good start to a new career? Thank you.

I am looking to buy a New PC for my parents, as I've had bad experiences in the past with terrible helplines, I want to check out reviews for some of these helplines before buying . Does anyone know where i can find this info?

Answer:Tech Support

You will not find any helpline reviews that are conclusive or objective. I have used Evesham and Dell helplines in the past and these were excellent but others might disagree. This forum is a better helpline IMHO.G

Please do not ask for assistance with (or ways to bypass) a forgotten or unknown password, personal identification number (PIN) or any other type of access code that may be required on a computer, mobile device or web site. As there is no way to verify the actual situation or intent, no assistance will be provided and any such threads will be closed.Click to expand...

Our only suggestion is a clean install of Windows using the product key on the case of the computer if there is one.

I bought a new PSU, that came in the mail today. Once I started up the computer I discovered that my USB ports don't work. Last Friday when my video card died, my 4 year old broke the two front USB ports. The computer's manufacturer surmises this shorted out the back ports and now wants to replace the motherboard and case. Both are under warranty, thank goodness.

So now my conundrum, I didn't buy the new PSU from the manufacturer, but it is the same brand as my old one. Do I just send the box back with the new one (which lets them organize the cables ten times better than I can) or do I put the old one back in? Or do I send both? There is nothing wrong with the old PSU, it's just not powerful enough for my new graphics card, which is NOT leaving my possession!

I'm sure I'm over thinking this, I just don't want to be screwed over.

Thank you for any help or advice.

I need to speak to a support tech in the US.  I was told I had this option when I bought my computer.  I am still in warranty, have a 3 year HP Care Pack.  I spent most of a night from 8:30 PM to 2:30AM on the phone with some guy that had me actually attempting to take off the side panel on my computer and move some plugs.  These people were rude, obnoxious and didn't help at all.  Now they want to come out and change my hard drive??????  They wanted me to do it at first but I told them no.  I run my home and business on this computer and i can't afford to be down for 3 days and lose all of the software I've paid for.  I don't have another computer to put the software on.  I need a United States technition.  I had them when I bought the computer directly from HP and used them, they were great and a real pleasure to work with.  They knew what they were talking about!!  Is there any way to get to one of these guys or girls again.  I had this all written down and cannot find the sheet anymore.

I have a friend who had a problem on her computer and she called her ISP Comcast for help since she uses their Norton anti-virus program. To make a long story short, she had to provide them with both her log in & email passwords and then they wanted to charge her $215 to clean her computer.
That doesn't make sense to me - I'm not aware of any reliable ISP tech support asking for passwords. I know they ask for permission to take control of a computer and then supply a service number the computer user has to enter. Is this something new that an ISP tech support asks for passwords.

She has changed her email password and I recommended to her to also change her log on password.

Answer:Tech support asking for passwords

I'm not sure of ISP Comcast procedures but Remote Assistance opens with a Password the users needs to provide to the person they are requesting help from so that person can connect to the computer.Remote Assistance FAQsInvite Another User to Troubleshoot Your Windows 7 Machine with Remote AssistanceHow to Use Windows 7 Remote Assistance Easy Connect Asking for a log in and email passwords sometimes makes it easier for the Tech to do what they need to do especially when dealing with a novice user who knows little about computers. This is not something I would do but it does occur and some folks provide that information. $215 seems like a lot of money but again I don't know exactly what they had to do to clean this computer or how long it took. This sounds like an issue she should follow up by contacting ISP Comcast and speaking to a supervisor in their support division.

Okay,I messed up, my laptop (Toshiba L755) was infected and just after xmas I noticed my documents and pictures (everything for my 501.c.3 animal rescue) was GONE. I panicked and somehow wound up on the phone with ATS. They had me put it in safe mode and THANKFULLY (from what I saw) all my pics and docs were there!!! They did a remote in to my laptop and said it would be several hours and they would fix it, A WEEK LATER (with daily phone calls) NOTHING, and on the second day, everything was gone from safe mode too. I was furious and even tho they refunded my money, I still do not have my stuff back, I am heart broken, these docs and pics are SO important to my nonprofit work, it has been horrible... Can anyone help???

Answer:HP Tech support gave up on this one

Uninstall the printer, through ADD/REMOVE PROGRAMS, then go to Control Panel -> System -> Hardware -> Device Manager and remove any left over HP/printer entries - look under HP, USB, all the categories. If HP gave you a seperate uninstaller to use then run that, they usually have one and if you look through your CD you might be able to find it hidden somewhere. Then unplug the printer and all other USB devices - except USB a mouse and Keyboard if yours happen to be USB.

Now still in Device Manager remove all USB hubs and then all USB Controllers.

Now go here: http://www.viaarena.com/?PageID=403 and download and install the latest VIA 4-in-1 drivers and reboot as request. Then reboot again after the USB controllers are reinstalled.

Now download the latest printer drivers from HP's website for your model if you haven't done so yet and start the installation. Do not plug in the printer until prompt to do so or until the installation is totally complete. When plugging in the printer use a USB connector that is not near the one you used before - they are usually in pairs of two.

If that Fails you can do a System Restore from Programs - Accessories - System to a date before the problems started and hope it works and doesn't recur.

XP runs better with more RAM - if there's nothing wrong with it then add it back in.

I have called D-link tech support a while ago and a guy named Leo was so great. Any people here who had great experiences with D-link tech support?

Answer:D-link Tech support

I've had nothing but bad experiences from D-Link Tech Support. For example...

This lady couldn't figure out why I was experiencing problems and she said she would transfer me to a Senior Tech. The phone rang and some guy at Panasonic tech support picked up. I was just a bit confused...

I believe they have recently moved all their offices to India. About two years ago I was able to get an American call centre, not anymore!

I had just called them last night and kept hearing my voice echo. I asked the lady and she gave me some weird answer... I didn't really understand what she said but it is quite annoying constantly hearing yourself talk back.

Question: tech support scam?

Has anyone heard of or had dealings with Procomsupport247 or Khamtechnologies. When My wife called the microsoft support number on two different occasions these are the people she got. They did help with the problem but they charge for service and want you to sign up for multi year contracts. Any help would be appreciated.

Those are services offered by 3rd parties and are not affiliated with Microsoft. If you search for Microsoft support you'll usually get quite a few ads before seeing a real number. If you want actual Microsoft support go here:
