Preferred Solution: y410p recovery partition not working

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I replaced my regulard hdd with a ssd and got the recovery disks from lenovo to reload windows 8 on it. When it comes time to insert disk 3 it tries to read it then says "please insert disk 3 and hit ok" everytime I put in the 3rd disk it will always say that. I have tried multiple times to turn off the computer and retry the download from scratch and everytime it asks for the 3rd disk it acts like I'm putting in the incorrect one. Does anyone know how to fix this?!

Answer:y410p OS recovery disk 3 not working

Hi Awinn,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

I?m sorry to hear that the 3rd disc is not getting detecting while performing re-installation of OS (Operating System) using recovery discs, I suggest you to reset the BIOS to its defaults and check the issue. Below is the steps to reset BIOS:

Turn OFF the computer and click on the NOVO button which is located at the left hand side of the Laptop.
Select the BIOS utility.
Now click on ?F9? key and then YES to reset the BIOS to its defaults.
Then click on ?F10? key and YES to save the changes made in BIOS.

Do post us back if the issue still persists.

Best Regards

Hi, i just received the recovery disks that i ordered thru the support phone # for the Lenovo Y410P, since the OS totally crashed and partitions were not booting. But it seems like the disks are not working, they just won't start. The computer just restarts.I received the following disks set:(1) Start Recovery Disk [Start your recovery operation with this disk]P/N: 25-700121 (2) Operating System Recovery DiskP/N: 25-700122 (3) Operating System Recovery DiskP/N: 26-000041 (3) Start Recovery Disk [Start your recovery operation with this disk]P/N: 25-700123 (4) Operating System Recovery DiskP/N: 27-700002 So yes, two of the disks are labeled as Disk 3 with differences, there is no Disk 5. Hi,
I have this laptop for the last 3 years and never used the recovery option as I didn't need to, the recovery partition is there never been formated, now my windows is too slow and wanted to restore it to factory install settings but when i press the F11 button in the start to boot in to recover mode it just take me to windows boot screen without giving an error, I did some research and found out that i have to make the recovery partition as active partition but the problem is that i couldn't do it as there is no such option to make the partition active in WINDOWS DISK MANEGEMENT and couldn't see the recovery partition in DISK PART (in windows).
images will be attatched if needed actually there was no error so that's why I didn't upload any image.

thanks in advance hoping i will get a reply here.

Have an HP pavilion PC running XP media edition. It had a blue screen error which constantly reboots.
Did a scan with a friends bit-defender disc and it was heavily infected with viruses. It cleaned all the bugs (well all that it found) However still has blue screen error. So decided to do a full recovery using the built in recovery partition.
This almost gets to the recovery part and the machine shuts down and restarts.(no blue screen)
Have swapped the RAM but still does same.
Is it possible the recoveruy partition could get infected.??? Or is this more likely to be a hardware fault?? Any ideas??
AL..

Answer:Recovery partition not working..

Most likely when the machine was new you got a prompt to make a set of recovery discs. If you made a set of recovery discs, take the machine back to original configuration by using the recovery disc set.

Hi All!
My brother's Toshiba A500 laptop with Windows 7 32bit got antimalware doctor and after deleting it fully, got problems with the OS (such as programs slowing considerably after randomly minimising during operation) and so we backed up everything important in safe mode, and tried to use the rocovery partition by pressing 0 repetitively on startup. We got to the utility, but it's saying it can't find the recovery device and that we need the recovery disc, does anyone know where i can get a Toshiba A500 Windows 7 32 bit recovery disc?

Couldn't think of a good way to phrase that subject line. Anyways, I was trying to create 'restore' disks from the recovery partition. Seemed easy enough--I clicked it and it prompted me asking if I wanted to go ahead.. I said yes, and it started copying files. Problem is it froze while getting the files ready to burn, so now I have TWO extra partitions on my drive: Q, the original recovery partition and "SYSTEM_DRV (S" which has four file folders on it. If I click on the original "LENOVO_RECOVERY" partiition, nothing happens and it appear to be empty... Anyone know what I can do to fix this?

You need Acronis Partition Expert or similar software to delete extra partitions. I think the right way should've been to copy the entire partition to the disc / external hard drive

Hi, When I first got my Q190 I installed Windows 7. When installing it asked for drivers which I installed using the recovery partition already installed on the machine. I now want to re-install Windows 7, but the issue is that the recovery partition doesn't seem to be working and I cannot gain access to it. Does anybody know of a way to re-enable/re-install the partition? (You should know that installed at the moment is Linux Ubuntu, which installed fine without the need for extra drivers)  Thank you - Luke

Answer:Q190 Recovery Partition Not Working

hi DEADLYshroom93,

Welcome to the Lenovo Forums.

If you have a preloaded Windows 7 OS and you didn't create a recovery disc using this method then you will need to check first if the recovery partition is still intact under Ubuntu's Disk Manager.

If the Recovery Partition is still intact, use UltimateBootCD or Hiren's Boot CD to force boot from the recovery partition

If the Recovery Partition is still intact but is corrupted / not bootable, you will need to:
1. Check the unit for the Windows 7 sticker (product key)
2. Download and burn a bootable Windows 7 ISO on this website (if you have a preloaded Windows 7 Home Premium 64Bit, you will need to download the same for the unit to be activated via SLIC/SLP - see this guide)
3. Use the product key that you obtained from Step 1 if necessary.

Hope this helps

Hi Folks,

Coming from a pc that i built my own with windows 7 to a windows 8 Sony vaio pro 13 laptop was not easy for me recently .

long story short, i was trying to install Ubuntu alongside windows 8.1 pro. However, that was very unsuccessful, due to a what i think UEif, secure boot and some other reasons that im still unsure of. Now regardless of all that, i think during the process of trying to solve that problem and get linux running as a secondary os on my laptop, i did something wrong. i did play with partitions however l i do not remember touching any of the recovery partitions. i also downloaded two softwares to try and boot linux which are :

-EasyBCD - boot management
-Ease Partition Master - partition management

after so many failed attempted i thought to my self that maybe i should re-install windows and everything. Sony Vaio laptops have a button called Assist, when pressed it will boot to Sony diagnostics and recovery tools. Thar recovery tool usually allows you to format your laptop and re-installs everything along with all the softwares that sony provided with the laptop. That did not work for me for the first time since i got the laptop i tried different methods including advanced startup all option can;t seem to find the recovery partition. I tried to go to PC Setting > recovery > refresh & reset. None works and it asks me to insert a recovery media. So i went to disk management, and here is whats there :

the partition is there, i even went ... Read more

Hi, My R51e which has worked almost perfectly for three years suddenly slowed to a crawling pace without warning at all. It would take up to an hour to get to the welcome screen, but once I was finally logged on everything worked fine (though at roughly 40% speed). However this morning the boot wont even start: All I get is a "NTDETECT FAILED" on the screen then it just reboots... and does the same thing! I don't have a recovery disk because lenovo decided to do this partition recovery thing ... but that doesn't work either! I select it, it tells me that it is inspecting my hardware configuration, then the screen goes black (the computer is theoretically still on) and nothing happens... Has anyone had any of these problems? Especially with the partition recovery? I can't find out if the blank screen is a common part of the recovery process (though I assume it isn't...) Thanks

You could try this instead, Reset Windows 8. From what I've read this should roll you back to your original Windows 8 install. I'd back up any data you want saved to external recovery media before you do anything though.

Hey guys. I've read a lot from this site and the tutorials and solutions are amazing. so I have decided. somewhat, maybe you can help me. here's the scenario:

I have a windows tablet ,ASUS Vivotab M81C non-signature edition (Please google for the specs), upon downloading all the necessary updates, I upgraded it to windows 10, after the long upgrade I noticed that windows 10 removed my oem recovery partition. so I immediately reverted back to windows 8.1

When I checked my partitions, I see that it was restored and labeled "healthy" I thought everything is ok until I decided to reset the tablet (in windows 8.1 already). But then reset/refresh and even create recovery drive didn't work. the refresh/reset menu said "Couldn't find recovery environment" while Create Recovery Drive said "A required Partition is missing" Itried booting from an iso with same architecture and tried reset/refresh but nothing worked. So I decided to fresh install the OS using the ISO I found here :https://www.pcsteps.com/210-download...ree-microsoft/ and thankfully I hadn't encountered any activation issues with the ISO. I used Custom Install, deleted all partitions EXCEPT the default Recovery Partition and proceeded. Installed all the drivers and got the tablet working again.

I now decided to copy the recovery partition and it was successful though I still didn't delete the one in my HD. Now I want to restore my tablet back to its factory default using the recove... Read more

Answer:ASUS default recovery partition not working

Although it says "healthy" that doesn't mean all the data is still there. Installing Win 10, even though you backed out could have corrupted the recovery partition or the boot record. For example, on a Dell with a recovery partition installing some other OS invalidates using the recovery partion to restore and in those cases a restore/reinstallation requires discs or USB drive to install OS then needed drivers.

Hi everyone, I know this must sound like a real stupid title, but please bear with me for a moment: Having wiped my R50p clean with the "Access IBM" button, I noticed that I only had a C drive with 20 GB of which much was in use. In Windows XP Disk Manager I saw that there was a whopping 55 GB on a hidden partition that I only had the option of to "remove", not to activate or anything else. Realising that this was the hidden partition with the IBM restore files, I was hesitant to take any action. After doing some research on several forums I found that the recovery part should only take up 20 GB, which corresponded somewhat to the fact that Disk Manager showed 42 GB of 55 GB to be "free" (if only I could use the free space!). In order to access those magnificent 42 free GBs on the 55 GB hidden partition, I first created a ThinkVantage recovery disc (strangely it was only one CD-R) and disabled IBM Predesktop Area in the BIOS. As a result, I proceeded with deleting the 55 GB partition and it became unallocated space, therefore allowing me to make it a new partition and assign a drive letter (in this case D), doing a "quick format (NTFS)" in order to be able to use the space available, and finally giving me the full 55 GB. Since I had preferred to leave the recovery files on the hidden partition, but had no idea how to access the useful other 42 GBs, I followed the abovementioned procedure. Now my question is whether it's possible to recreate another hidden parti... Read more

Answer:?? Restore Recovery Partition with Recovery Disc after deleting Recovery Partition

pvanedan, welcome to the forum, after reading your post several times I think I understand your situation as it is now. The answer is as follows; which you may not like sorry  You have successfully deleted the recovery partition in order to gain more space, that's the good news  The cd you have created is only a boot cd and not a recovery cd, this would be used to boot your ThinkPad and access a recovery backup which is stored on another hard drive, cd/dvds or over network. It alone is not able to recreate the recovery partition which you no longer have, that's the bad news  I would suggest backing up your files regularly and using an appropriate imaging software to backup your installation. Edit: What I don't understand is; why 55GB? The partition should have been around 4GB, maybe it was full of backups??Message Edited by andyP on 07-03-2008 07:30 PM

Hi everyone!New to the forum here and new Y50 owner. (Also switching back to PC after the past 5 years on mac... so a little rusty). So I will be receiving my new Y50 tomorrow in the mail. After the prerequisite bloatware removal and installing a few programs I'd like to create a recovery backup so I'll be safe. Now before I do that I'd like to re-size my 1TB HD partitions into a smaller C: drive for my OS and programs and a larger D: drive for my files and media (at least this is what I've read to do for best practices reasons).I've read that I will encounter issues by resizing partitions and having the still unfamiliar to me preinstalled recovery software (One Key Recovery) still working.1. So my question is if I want to resize the partitions in the manner described (again suggested as best practices from my readings - smaller C: drive for programs and OS and larger D: drive for files and media) how should I do this without screwing up One Key Recovery?2. Also have researched using Macrium Reflect or just the built in Windows System Image Backup Back up your programs, system settings, and files - Windows HelpAny advantages to using One Key Recovery over Macrium or the stock Windows backup?Sorry if all this is a bit novice but I'm coming from the past 5 years of exclusively using Mac where I only worried about my automated time machine back ups.

Answer:Coming from Macs - Y50 partition resize w/ recovery still working

any help? just a bit confused. Saw from another thread that the stock partitioning of the Y50 will give a very large C: drive of 887GB and a small D: of 24.9GB (I'm assuming the rest of the 1 TB is hidden). Is it really best practice to make a smaller C: drive for just OS and programs and another larger D: drive for media and files?

I'm about to give my old Samsung laptop to a friend of mine, but I would like to restore it to factory condition before doing so. I saw I've accidentally removed the recovery partition when I formatted the drive the first time. I do however have a backup of the files that were on the recovery partition. As a result of the missing partition, I can no longer use F4 to boot to recovery.

Is there a way to restore such functionality? I've tried creating a new partition and moving the files to it, but I imagine it has to be a specific size and have some specific properties such as bootable etc. so the PC can recognize it as the recovery partition. Is there any tool by Samsung that allows me to restore the default partitioning? If anyone here has a samsung PC, would they be willing to share the information about their partitions, such as the flags that are set, specifically for the recovery partition.

This thread here made mention of such a tool, but it was never posted and I couldn't find it: https://superuser.com/questions/4765...cea6c0c0419fef

The hard drive is 500GB in size, and the type of Laptop is a Samsung R530-JT02.

Thanks in advance.

Answer:Samsung Recovery Partition missing, boot to F4 not working

You don't have DVD's for recovery? I guess that function (F4) is embedded in BIOS. Maybe how you format the partition is important. Tried FAT32/NTFS? Or set it Active Partition - Mark as Active

Hello,I am attempting to use BitLocker on my X61 Tablet ThinkPad but have run across an error message that is preventing me from initializing the BitLocker encryption. The message reads as follows: "Your system is not configured to use BitLocker Drive Encryption. If there is a bootable CD or DVD in your computer, remove it...if the problem persists, contact the computer manufacturer for BIOS upgrade instructions." I have run the BitLocker Drive Preparation Tool which has created its own boot drive (S and that program tells me that all is in order.  Additionally, I have verified that I have a fully updated BIOS.There is no bootable CD or DVD in the computer but there is what I assume to be Lenovo's Recovery software on a hidden and unalterable drive that appears in Disk Management. I cannot make changes to this drive; it is labeled only as"Healthy" and "EISA Configuration."Is this recovery drive the culprit that is preventing BitLocker from working? And if so, can it be disabled or BitLocker tricked into functioning while it is still present? Thanks for your help!

Hello to Lenovo support(and community)! My laptop: Lenovo G560 (I have noticed some variable specification) I have bought G560 and it came with around 500GB hard disk;partition C: 420-430GB which is for application software, operating system, and user documents.partition D: 30GB for OneKey system reocvery and needed files, perhaps for factory restore.and two more partitions but they are invisible and only found them by running disk management. Now the problem is that I have my files(documents), app software and operating system on the same partition and I want to have only the operating system on C and have app and documents on another partition OR have a new 200-300GB(taken from C) for backups partition.**I know it is not recommended to have backups on the same hard disk, but this is a temporary solution. How can I shrink C to have unallocated space and use it to create a new partition(or more) without corrupting the D OneKey Recovery partition?   Thanks for supporting your customers!!!

Hello OLL98, welcome to Lenovo forums!

You can´t use Onekey Recovery anymore if you change the partitions.

So please create your recovery media before, messing up with the partitions. My 2 cents.

Hi folks

I'm new to this forum. Hope to get some advice from you. I recently got an A100 laptop. It comes with Express Media Player (EMP) installed. Since my HDD is 160GB, I need to do some partition to protect my data should WinXP crashes and needed recovery. I used Toshiba's Windows Recovery CD to restore Windows into a 40GB partition and configured the remaining as an extended partition. The following is the final state of my laptop after that.
C: 40GB (contains WinXP)
D: ~108GB (for my Data)
I can see an unknown partition of ~250MB which is for EMP. I shut down my PC and turn it on using EMP button. It did not work! EMP fails to boot. Can you guys advise? Have anyone tried partitioning their HDD and getting EMP to work?

Answer:Express Media Player stopped working after Windows Recovery with partition

Hi

Usually if you want to use the Express Media Player functions the Express Mediaplayer Recovery CD must be run before performing the recovery from the Recovery DVD-ROM.

You have to known that you cannot run Express Media player after performing a recovery!!!

But it seems you have not formatted the whole HDD and crated only the additional partition. Possibly you don?t need to reinstall the Express Media Player.

I have investigated a little bit on the Toshiba computer technical knowledge and found this:

In rare instances Windows XP starts up instead of the Express Media Player

So recently, my HDD for my Lenovo Y410p died and I sent it to the shop to replace a new HDD and reinstall the OS. It all went well until the part where they want to reinstall it because; 1) They do not have the Recovery Disk for my laptop,2) I DO NOT have the recovery disk for my laptop too,3) My original HDD is totally dead, and so the recovery image or whatsoever it is in it is all trash. and not to forget, my warranty is over already x.x Bought it in May 2013 at Malaysia, I live in Brunei Darussalam, a 1 and a half flight from there to here. My main question is, will Lenovo be able to send me one to me? Yes I do know I need to pay an amount of money for them to send me the disk.

Answer:Recovery disk for Y410P?

hi germs95,

Welcome to the Lenovo Forums and sorry to hear about your trouble.

AFAIK, the support cernter can only ship the recovery media on the country of purchase. To verify if they can ship the disc to your area, you will need to contact lenovo Malaysia (Toll Free#: 1-800-22-0116)

Alternatively, you may also want to try these steps if you have Windows 8.1 pre-installed on the machine:
1. Check this guide on how to obtain a Windows 8.1 ISO (see Option One)
2. When finished, follow this guide to make a bootable UEFI Win8.1 installer via DVD/USB flashdrive
3. After creating the insatller in Step 2, use it to install Windows and it should be able to detect the Windows 8.1 product key in the UEFI firmware and activate Windows.

If the system is preloaded with Windows 8.0, you may need to get a Windows 8 disc (either from a friend or via online). This disc should also be able to activate Windows and detect the Windows 8 product key in the UEFI firmware.

Regards

Has anyone purchased a Windows 8 recovery DVD from Lenovo? I want to reload the OS on my SSD, but I don't want to purchase the DVD and don't particularly like the way Lenovo loaded the OS, so I want to load it myself.

I received a set of recovery disks from Lenovo for my Y410P the other day and am having trouble with the installation. The disks I have: Disk 1 - P/N: 151-700121Disk 1 - P/N: 151-700122Disk 3 - P/N: 161-000011Disk 4 - P/N: 171-700006 After calling tech support twice since the install did not work and I did not have a disk labeled 2 they said that the disks must be wrong and sent me a new set. The new set of disks that I received were the same exact ones. Still no disk 2 and 2 disks labeled 1. When doing the install of the 4 disks starting with the first listed I get an infinite startup loop where it goes to administrator and restarts.  Does anyone know the correct way to insert these disks to get the laptop back up and running. I just need to get into Windows 8 and I can install the drivers and whatever else. It seems that tech support has no idea and I was hoping someone on here came across this issue.  Thanks in advance.

That page described how to restore using the recovery disc sets.

I had a Windows 8 font problem and decided to use One Key Recovery.  I chose to restore factory settings.  The utility said that it would erase all data, but it didn't.  Because files still remain on my hard drive, I can not reinstall Adobe Creative Suite.  Some of the Windows directories/files also have weird attribute settings that I can not change.  I need a formatted hard drive before I lay down the factory install again.  How do I REALLY erase my hard drive AND restore my Y410P to factory settings?

I bought the y410p a few months ago and am finally getting around to hooking up my seagate 2TB external hard drive. The issue is that windows doesn't recognize the drive when it is in the usb 3.0 port - however it recognizes it when I pop it into one of the other usb 2.0 slots. The only thread I could find that comes close to this same issue is this:  https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/IdeaPad-Y-U-V-Z-and-P-series/y410p-USB-3-0-port-problems/td-p/1180725 I followed the advice in it, and tried to install the usb 3 driver - same thing - my system didn't meet the minimum requirements (windows 8 64bit). I installed the Intel Chipset Software Device Utility (INF Update) like the dude mentioned - and everything installed fine. I tried the usb 3.0 driver again and it still says that I don't meet the minimum requirements. I would LOVE to get this working, because I move big videos on and off my compy all the time - and usb 2.0 is SLLOOWWW... any help is appreciated

Hi, just a computer days ago my y410p's vga port stopped working and sends no signal to my monitor. Put in display settings, it does detect my monitor. I used to be able to connect my laptop through HDMI and VGA to 2 different monitors, but I cannot longer do that. I have already tried a clean installation of Windows 8 which it did not work. I also updated to windows 8.1 and also did a clean installation of it. Still did not work, I updated all my drivers and everything. I just don't understand.I checked my VGA cable and bought new ones just to see if it was defected. Please help me. I am giving up since i am out of warrantly, it's been a year since I bought this.

Answer:Y410P VGA not working

i have y410p.. using VGA right now with a tv.. works fine.. try using your other HDMI port.. and see if that works with a tv or such.. then you can also try updating the vga driver from lenovo support drivers page for the y410p .. or go to bios and set only the intel HD video card to work.. and keep testing your vga port.. otherwise perhaps it just blew out??

I have a Y410P laptop that is about 2 years old. Recently I have been having issues with my USB ports. At first they would take a long time to register devices, but as time passed the ports started to flicker between working and not working in about 2 second intervals for about a minute until they just stopped working completely. I have reinstalled the windows 8 USB drivers and that helped for a little while, but whenever my computer goes into hibernation or restarts the issue comes back. I've reinstalled the drivers two more times and the issues always come back after putting it in hibernation or restarting it.
I'm really hoping that this is not a hardware problem. If anyone has had this issue and fixed it I would greatly appreciate any feedback.

Sometimes you will need to add more EXE in the profile to runs the game on geforce (the built-in profile aren't perfect)Try running the game and then go to Task Manager to see which EXE is actually being used by the game, and then add this EXE in profiles to runs with geforce.Or you can just add all the EXE you found in the game folder including the game launcher

Hi, my name is Lucas and I bought a Y410p some months ago and I'm having a big headache trying to use some USB devices on it.  My Y410p came with Windows 8.1 built-in. I tried to use several wireless mice and usb presenters but those devices are not recognized at all. I tested those devices in other two computers, one using Windows 8.1 e the other Windows 8 and they worked properly on both. Everytime I plug those devices on my computer it says that the driver is not recognized. I tried to upload and install new drivers through the Windows' device manager and didn't work. I have no idea what else I can do to solve this issues.  Can you help me please?

Okay so, I have a y510p with dual 755m's. Recently there were some automatic updates to windows 8.1 which I believe is the source of my problems. Before these updates, I could run Skyrim on ultra settings at around 50-60 fps, since these updates that has dropped to around 30-40, the fps drop I believe is due to the second graphics card not actually being enabled (even if it says it is) I've ran the .bat and everything and that raised fps slightly, but the SLI is still not enabled. Please help!

After I login on my y410p (Running windows 8.1) I get to a grey-black screen with my mouse cursor on it. It stays this way for hours. I can do ctrl alt delete and bring up a task manager. Is there any way to get the rest of the OS to work thorugh task manager?

Answer:Ideapad y410p Not Working After Login

Hours? Jeez. I came to post a similar issue, except a restart will take me about 10-15 minutes. I'll hang at the Windows 8.1 restart screen, spinning for about 10 minutes, and then upon boot, spin at the Lenovo splash for about 5 more. I have the model with the 24 GB SSD, and had to re-install a fresh copy of Windows to prevent the laptop from dealing with constantly locking when waking from sleep. I would like an answer to this, as its incredibly frustrating.

My Y410p is about six months old. Today, while using the computer, the touchpad stopped working suddenly. Touchpad is enabled in mouse settings, and device manager says drivers are up to date and that the device is working. However, the touchpad is completely unresponsive, and restarting the computer didn't do anything. Is there anything else that could be done? Or should I believe that this is hardware failure? Thanks.

Something on the main board regarding power blew out a week and a half ago and I had to send in my Y410p for repair. Came back today, and while the harddrive was NOT wiped there seems to be a problem with the touchpad. I don't have two finger scrolling or zooming, or any sort of multitouch. Also the sensitivity seems to have reseted to an agonizingly slow level, and I'm not able to change it under Windows 8.1 PC Settings. Anyone know how to fix this? I'm going to reinstall the drivers (if the slow Wifi card ever let's me download it...), but failing that I'd like to know if there's anything else I can try.

I am writing this post to acquire additional information about why this may be. What I have is a Lenovo y410p that shipped with just the standard 1tb hard drive (I did not get the additional ssd). I purchased a small, working, 16gb m.2 ssd to try out in the laptop before I spend money on something much larger. I open up the laptop, plug it in (it some fiit perfectly, not a hitch) and assemble and turn the laptop back on. Now, after playing in the BIOS which doesn't allow you to change anything (horrible BIOS btw), it also does not show up in device/disk manager. According to the BIOS it does not see the drive at all. I had once, miraculously, it did see the drive, then when I booted it was gone. Does anyone have an idea how I may be able to enable that port? Or if that port on mine is busted? ... Key Points- The m.2 drive itself is working, and tested in an external enclosure- Drive has showed up in BIOS like twice, randomly, then not after computer is booted- Drive has never shown up in device/disk manager- I know this is the right drive, m.2 ngff ssd because it fits and is not pci-e based. Any information would be greatly appreciated. I know there is not a whole lot of documentation on this issue anywhere else, so we may be able to help someone else out as well!

Answer:Lenovo Y410p M.2 SSD port not working

It might need to get the drive initialize and then install a program to make it act as a cache. I'm not sure if the program is Expresscache but take a look at this procesure if it is what you need.

Answer:My Y410p USB 2.0 ports ( on the right side) not working

Welcome to the Lenovo Community !

Try doing a reset of the BIOS to see if that will clear the problem with the USB ports.  A soft reset can be useful in resolving hardware conflict problems.  Just do this.......
1. Unplug the charger / adapter. 2. Remove the battery. 3. Press and hold the Power Button for 15 seconds. 4. Re-install the battery, plug in the charger / adapter if needed and power up the system to see if the problem was resolved.

I would also recommend that you shine a flashlight info the ports.  Check to see that there is no debris obstructing the contacts and that the contacts are all aligned and not touching each other.

If the above doesn't resolve the problem then I would suspect there is a problem with the audio card that has the ports mounted on it or the ribbon cable connecting the audio card to the motherboard is not fully plugged in.  Since your system is still under warranty, further repairs are best left to Lenovo Support.  You can find the phone number for Lenovo Support by using the link below....http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/supportphonelist_alt1

I got my screen replaced a few weeks ago and when I got my laptop back my touchpad was not working. It would work on and off but everytime I turned of my laptop and turned it back on the touchpad would stop working. I tried a few things like updating my laptop and troubleshooting and it would get my touchpad to work for a little bit but then it would just stop working again. Its now not even showing up in the device manager. I don't know if it's a dirver issue with windows 10 or if something happened when my screen was being replaced. I tried looking on the lenovo website for downloads but I don't see any windows 10 touchpad downloads for this laptop model. HELP. I have a mouse that plugs into my usb but i'd really like my touchpad to work again.

Yesterday it worked fine and I haven't downloaded or installed anything in between then and when this started. Today, I tried to use my webcam and it started out fine but it kept sporadically cutting out. The LED flickers on and off and the Windows 8 camera app fails to recognize the camera, then it crashes. At first I had the time to take a picture or something before it crashed but now it does it within seconds. It crashes most camera apps like ManyCam, and online webapps like the Facebook or Youtube self-capture apps. Only one I can get working consistently is testwebcam.com. It's really low bitrate so maybe that has something to do with it? I have reinstalled the drivers and restarted my computer several times and my situation hasn't improved at all.I don't know what to do.

Recently the power went out in my house, and my y410p charger temporarily stopped working, obviously. However, after we got the power back on and I turned it back on, it still wasn't charging. On the laptop, the battery icon shows it simply as not charging, and it's not a problem with the power outlet. I tested that with a different laptop, and it works fine. What's wrong with this? Could my power adapter actually break from this or is this some issue with my laptop?

Answer:y410p charger temporarily stopped working

If your laptop charger is not charging anymore and the power outlet is fine, then either your power adapter suffered damage or the laptop battery. Solution -1) Switch off the laptop.2) Take out the battery and plug in the power supply ONLY.3) Try to turn ON the laptop.    Does it work? 1) Switch off the laptop2) Take out the power supply and keep the battery connected.3) Try to turn ON the laptop.  Does it work? Above mentioned tests would tell you what is faulty - Battery or the charger. My experience would say that your power adapter got damaged. One advice I would say is to buy a power cord with a fuse, so that if electricity goes off or fluctuates, it does not affect your laptop. You should never connect the laptop charger directly to the wall outlet, its a dangerous practice.

I am unable to use the GT 750m graphics card in my Lenovo Ideapad Y410p laptop (Windows 8, 64 bit). In the Device Manager, the graphics card is listed, but there is a little yellow triangle next to it. When I go into Properties, it says "Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)" I am unable to open the NVIDIA control panel. I've tried updating the drivers.I've tried uninstalling and installing the drivers from NVIDIA's website (recent and older).I've tried uninstalling and installing  the drivers from Lenovo's website.I've tried uninstalling and installing both NVIDIA and Intel HD Graphics 4600 drivers.I've tried using CCleaner and Driver Display Uninstaller to remove files.I've tried updating the BIOS. I realize this could very well be a hardware issue, but since that would cost a lot of money to fix, I want to eliminate any other possibility first. Has anybody else here had a similar problem?

Answer:NVIDIA GeForce GT 750m not working in Y410p

You have written that you uninstalled and installed the drivers but WAS it a clean install?

1) Go to Control Panel >> Device Manager >> Display
2) Right click and Uninstall Nvidia GPU
3) Go to Control Panel >> Programs & Features,  Uninstall everything related to NVIDIA
4) Restart
5) Let the system recognize and install the drivers automatically.
6) Now, check in the location mentioned in Step 1.

If it doesn't work,
You can try a laptop reset by pressing the NOVO button.
Make sure to take a backup (on external drive) of your personal files like songs, videos coz they will be deleted.

Since I'm not an expert at present, I can't do a lot to help others in this forum solve their problems. So I figure that the most helpful thing I can do is post enough information that hopefully others can learn from my experiences. That's why I'm putting so much documentation into this thread.

I have a WD 2TB external hard drive that I use for both System Image and data file backups. A week ago, I was trying to resize one of its partitions, and the process got hung up partway through. I took some steps to try to address any problems that may have resulted, but apparently I didn't do enough.

Here's the background:

Hi

currently I am using vista ultimate. I have only one partition (C:)

i want to install vista home premium onto (C:) but my dvd/cd drive does not work. I do not have (or want to use) a portable DVD/CD drive to reformat.

Im thinking of creating another partition (D:) and then transfering the "bootable folder for home premium", from another computer to (D:) via usb drive.

Can I boot from this new partition (D:) and reformat (C:)?

thanks.

When I first got this product, before opening I thought that all the 500gb would go to the first partition, but then I saw that the recovery partition has half of the 500gb just for recovery which is unnessecery.

But I had no problem with this at the time, and used the recovery partition(after saving to a disk) for ubuntu so I could have a dual boot.

But now I've came to realise that the games I'm downloading are taking more and more room up on my C drive. The problem I have is that I can shrink my recovery partition and enlarge the C drive.

Does anyone know a work around?

Answer:Satellite Pro C660-225: Shrinking recovery partition englarge C partition

You will need an 3rd party software to shrink the recovery partition and to add the free space the existing C partition.
I would recommend you an freeware tool called Gparted

But before you would start doing this, create a recovery disk!
This is advisable in case you would try to set the notebook back to factory settings using such disk.

Hi
As the topic says; after installation of a fresh copy from the original disc win7, my second partition "D" has been renamed itself to the Recovery Partition. You can see it only in the application "Disk Management". I do not have access into it at all. When I click the right mouse button ?help? option appears only . There are very important files to me.
I tried to use EASEUS Partition Master but I'm afraid of losing data.
Please help.

Answer:[SOLVED] After win7 install, 2nd partition has renamed itself to Recovery Partition

Have you taken the install disc out ? Sounds dumb but the d: partition is generally a reserved partition and indicates your CD-ROM drive, to me it looks like your install disc, the file system is UDF which is universal disc format, you have two recovery partitions on top. Remove the disk, reboot. Then choose a different letter other than D for your recovery partition.. Best to start with z

The fact that the file encryption is UDF, you will not have the ability to modify it, its not NTFS, FAT or FAT32.

The webcam worked perfectly with the installed version of Windows 8 that came with my machine. These problems appeared after installing Windows 8.1. When I start Windows 8.1's Camera app, the LED positioned to the right of the webcam flickers on and off. Sometimes when the LED is on, you can see webcam footage for a brief instant. It's very inconsistent though. I have Linux Mint 16 installed alongside Windows 8.1 as a dual boot option, and strangely enough the webcam also does not work in Linux Mint. Trying other camera apps, such as Google+ Hangouts, does not work. I downgraded to Windows 8, and the camera still does not work - even with Windows 8's version of the camera driver. What should I do?

Answer:Y410p webcam no longer working after Windows 8.1 upgrade

After a lot of wasted hours, it seems like my webcam does work in Linux Mint on some applications. So the hardware isn't at fault. I'm hesitant to reinstall Windows 8 and all the drivers from Lenovo's website, because I tried it and it didn't work. No amount of driver reinstallation or Windows Updates is doing the trick. Regretfully, I also deleted the recovery partition that came with the laptop. *sigh* Guess there's nothing I can do.

Hello people, I bought my Y410p in August this year, few months later I upgraded to Win 8.1 after it released commercially. I seldomly use my Bluetooth function since I rarely transfer my stuff from my phone to my laptop. A few weeks ago I wanted to do a quick transfer and realize my Bluetooth has been reseted (expected that). So I went ahead and pair it. After it paired the connection just won't stays, it keep stating connected to not connected every time I click pair (from my phone)...I unpair it and re-pair to no avail. I went to Lenovo site to find my Bluetooth driver so I can upgrade it, but it still doesn't work. :IPlease help.

Hi,

Need some help. I recently bought Acer Aspire 5560G. It comes with 500GB HDD with only one partition which is drive C. There are 2 hidden partitions as well. I would like to split my drive C in 2 partitions without effecting my Recovery partition. Is it possible??? if yes than what's the best way?? Help would be highly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Answer:Hard Drive Partition Without Effecting Recovery Partition

I think the easiest way to accomplish that is to shrink your C: partition. That will create unallocated space. And the unallocated space can be used to create a new partition.

Hi, I cannot find my original x60 tablet cds. And I am installing win xp pro now on a new hd I just put in. I'd like keep a partition for recovery (like the original one in system). Can I just make a separate partition in xp installation? How big should I give to it? And how should I make partitions if I want to install multiple OS? (XP and Vista) with recovery for both? Thanks!Message Edited by saja on 01-01-2009 07:24 AM

Answer:lost my original x60 cds, how to reserve a partition for recovery partition?

you can't reserve a recovery partition in the normal sense if you don't have the Lenovo recovery media. If you want to do a dual boot you will have to partition your hdd into two drives.  You can partition your hdd by using an aftermarket software like PartitionMagic, etc.

Answer:Y410p Front headphone and microphone jacks not working after repair

Hi Talonek, welcome to the forums,

the problem you are experiencing is probably due to the cable connecting the ports on the right side, front of system, to the mainboard unfortunately not being connected or connected properly.  Please see pdf page 52 of the system's Hardware Maintenance Manual.

I've never taken an Y410p apart, but having looked at the manual the cable connection may well be accessible to check / fix by removing the hard drive.  Another alternative would be to call service and ask them to do this for you.

2) Recover the laptop to factory condition by pressing the NOVO button and see if that fixes the GPU problem.

Hi everyone,

I recently purchased a Dell Windows RT tablet from someone. It had the problem of not starting anymore. I managed to get my hands on a Windows RT 8.0 Recovery USB Image for this type of tablet. I used a Imaging tool to install this image on a USB drive.
I booted with this and I could access the Advanced recovery options. I started the Command Prompt and launched Diskpart. I saw all of the partitions where gone. So I used Diskpart to re-install all of the partitions using the Microsoft standard.
It looks like this:

convert gpt
create partition primary size=450
set id=DE94BBA4-06D1-4D40-A16A-BFD50179D6AC
gpt attributes=0x8000000000000001

All went well. After recreating the partitions, I used DISM to deploy the *.wim image on the USB drive to the Windows partition and installed the bootloader afterwards. The tablet was fixed after this :) I installed Windows RT 8.0 and updated to Windows

I bought lenovo thinkpad X230 in January 2013. I made a recovery USB on a 16 GB pendrive. I bought a windows 8 pro upgrade offer as well. But i did not install it at that time and kept it for future use.  About a week ago I installed windwos 8 on my system in dual boot mode making a partition on primary HDD.everything went ok with only problem that my windows 8 did not activate. I was ok with that. But when i tried F11 recovery function, it was not working. So i tried factory reset through recovery USB i created earlier. It opened up and said BOOTMGR missing. Later with some research I realized that i didnt make USB active (bootable) before burning it.(Though this is ridiculous considering, tools provided must have done that. Like when you make windows bootable.) With all this(and me panicking), I tried backing up my data with image i created through R & R tool. After back up, I lost my recovery partition on HDD. And I guess i accidentally deleted System_DRV partition as well.  Though my computer is running fine. I need a bootable media. it would be great if you can provide it. Also if you can restore my comp to factory setting with recovery partition, it would be great. Please help me. Thanks in advance.

Hello, I just migrated my X240 OS (Win8.1) from HDD to SSD, and swapped the HDD with SSD. Everything went smooth, so instead of the 500GB HDD I now had a 500GB SSD. However, I thought it might be best to start 'fresh'and do a reset to factory settings. On the SSD (a clone of the HDD) I see all partions, including the Recovery partition. However, if I attempt to reset to factory settings, I get the message that Windows could not find the Recovery environment. I did make a recovery USB flash drive, but it doesn't help at all. Also, booting from the recovery USB drive does not work -the screen remains black when I try to boot from it. So, even though I still have the recovery partition and though I have a recovery USB, I don't seem to be able to do a clean install. Does anybody know what I'm doing wrong or how I can do the reset? If my recovery partition/USB flash drive fail, can I get a Win8.1 DVD/download from Lenovo perhaps? After all, I have a legitimate Win8 version and I think I took all reasonable precautions by creating a recovery USB flash drive... Any help is appreciated. Many thanks!

Answer:Cannot reset X240 to factory settings with Recovery partition / USB Recovery drive

Following up on my post, I finally managed to do a clean install/reset to factory settings using my "old" HDD drive (the original drive from which I cloned to SSD) in an external casing via USB. So apparently the Recovery partition on the HDD was functional. However, I'm still not able to make a functional Recovery USB flash drive. I already made 1 in the past, and I just re-did this, but when I try to boot from the recovery flash drive, I just get a black screen and nothing happens. I noticed during creation of the Recovery flash drive, that I cannot select the option to copy the contents of the Recovery Partion to the flash drive. That's why the size is so small I guess: only a few hundred MB whereas the flash drive is 32GB in size. I presume this is the reason I cannot use/boot from the Recovery USB flash drive. Does anyone know why I can't create a proper USB Recovery flash drive?  All help is appreciated!

You can either get a hold of Vista installation disks and install it manually, or call Lenovo support and ask for recovery disks. They may charge you for the disks as you are supposed to create your own recovery disks.

Hi,

I have already found quite some discussions around the question how to increase free space on the SSD.

Is it a feasible option to remove the recovery partition after having created a USB recovery stick with "Toshiba Create Recovery Media" tool?
Any risk?

If it would be feasible, how can it be done to assign the gained space to the C: partition?

Thanks in advance for your advice!

Well, the recovery partition would be created again while notebook recovery procedure using the Recovery disk or recovery flash memory stick?

So if you want to delete the 2nd partition, you should create such recovery disk/USB stick before changing something on the HDD.

Talk about confusing. Does anyone know how to get a Toshiba C660 working after the HDD has failed and the owner has stupidly NOT followed the instructions to make a recovery disk. Will the recovery disk ( if you purchase one from Toshiba ) rebuild the new HDD along with a new recovery partition and install windows 7 (original OS ) and accept the product key printed on the Windows License attached to the base of the laptop. I have read a number of suggestions but these have been deemed incorrect by others.

Surely Toshiba must have a way of sorting this problem.

Do they read these posts ?

Answer:Satellite L660-12Q - Would recovery disk rebuild the new HDD along with a new recovery partition

Hi buddy?

I don?t think that this is really complicated? I could find all info regarding the recovery procedure in the user manual?

The recovery disk has to be created at the first day of purchase? its recommended to create one in cases something would be wrong with the HDD.

The recovery disk contain an image?. Image is a package containing Win system, drivers, tools and all the stuff preinstalled on the notebook.
You purchased the notebook and the system was already activated so you don?t need the key placed at the bottom of the unit.
Furthermore the usage of recovery disk formats the whole HDD (partitions too) and set the notebook back to the same state like at the first day of purchase.

There is also another option to recover the notebook called HDD recovery. This HDD recovery does not need recovery disk. Usage of HDD recovery would format ONLY the C (system) partition.

I just purchased a brand new laptop and have realised that it didn't come with a recovery disc or a recovery partition on the hard drive.

Just wondering if my hard disc crashes how am i supposed to reinstall windows?
The laptop i bought is a Toshiba satellite L500 and is only a few weeks old.

If anyone could help on the subject would be very much appreciated.

Answer:Satellite L500 - No recovery disc or recovery partition - How to reinstall?

Hi

Normally if I buy a new notebook or other product I read the user manual firstly. So I would recommend that you should the same before you ask different questions.

The point is that you have to create a Toshiba recovery disk yourself. Therefore start the recovery disk creator that is preinstalled on your notebook and follow the screen instructions. I recommend a high quality DVD-R medium to create this disk.

Furthermore you can reinstall Windows using the HDD recovery option. On the second partition you can find this folder that contains an image of factory settings and you can start this feature if you go in advanced boot menu and select ?repair my computer?. This is not a special partition, only a folder where the image is stored.

HDD recovery procedure is the same as Toshiba recovery disk. You get back factory settings too but the recovery disk wipes the whole HDD. The HDD recovery only the first partition.

By the way: Normally you did get this message:

Hi, I have a Lenovo 3000 N200 running Windows XP. Windows XP crashed beyond repair and I need to do a system restore. I do not have any Recovery CD's. I am told to press the "Lenovo Care" button. This gives me various options and option 3 is to press F11 to diagnose hardware or recover your system. If I select this, it is ignored and trys to boot Windows - obviously to no avail. I have checked the hard drive. I have run a disk test and all is fine. I have also connected it to another computer and can see the various partitions including the recovery. I have also been able to remove important data and back this up. I am therefore happy the hard disk is fine and the recovery partition is in place. Is there any way of getting the system restore to kick in? All help very much appreciated! Mark

That sucks, and you have tons of options including heroic tasks such as undelete tools that may or not work reliably. You may also feed your machine type and model number into the support.lenovo.com website and navigate to a list of the latest and even oldest stable drivers and software for your system.Regaining the exact functionality of booting to the recovery partition isn't regained from downloading those drivers. If you're insistent on restoring the same reboot/recovery functionality then you should consider contacting Lenovo support to determine your options, I'm not qualified nor presumptuous enough to mention whether or not a fee is involved for materials.

Hi, everyone.I'm quite sure I found this on-line and that it's doable, but now that I need it, of course I can't find it!My computer-illiterate sister has an eMachines Windows Vista computer that will no longer boot either normally or in safe mode; it hangs on crcdisk.sys.  She didn't make recovery disks when she got the computer, and the recovery console that comes up when it tries to boot also hangs.  She believes that it was interrupted while running a Windows update, but she's not entirely certain about that.  Anyway, her primary concern was recovering her pictures and documents, and I was able to do that by booting off a bootable Ubuntu CD.   Thus she now has everything she needs from that computer.  Before we take the sledgehammer to it, I want to fiddle with it and see whether I can get it booting into Windows off of the hard drive again so she can use it again, even if only for going on-line and not for saving precious stuff.I thought I read somewhere that if the recovery partition was readable (as it -- and the rest of the hard drive -- seem to be) that you could copy it up onto an external hard drive, then create recovery CD's on a different computer, but I can no longer find the instructions on how to do that.  Is that do-able, and if so, can I do it on an XP computer, or do I need to use a Win7 computer (I don't have a Vista computer).  Can I do it right off of the external hard drive, or d... Hi everyone,

I'm stuck in a pretty bad situation right now and I have no idea about how to help myself..So recently I've been wanting to 'reset' my Windows 8.1 laptop, & I just cannot because my recovery environment is missing..
First when I got this problem I thought there would be an easy-intermediate level fix like every other problem. (and I love fixing stuff.)

But this one doesn't look like an easy fix or I'm not even sure If there is a fix. So the big mistake I did was, I deleted my "System Recovery Partition".

I have searched everywhere possible and I'm not getting a fix.. I would really appreciate IF YOU GUYS HELP ME!
and another problem is that I don't live in the USA or Canada.I've got a Dell Inspiron 15R 5521, 8GB RAM, intel i5 3317u.

and Dell provides Backup Media to only the people who live in the US and Canada. Please guys, I need a solution.

I have a separate Windows 8.1 Installation Disk, but what I'm scared about is If I install my Windows from the disk, my Dell features would be gone and I don't think I'd be able to have a proper Recovery Environment in the future because this Disk's installation files are nothing related to Dell. Its just a clean Windows installation disk I got from my friend a while ago. I've tried the repair my computer option from the disk and it does not help...

Thank you

Started with error msg at boot "encountered a problem communicating with a device at startup......". Couldn't get by this error. took out drive, inserted into usb-enclosure, and tested. numerous sector errors. She has also lost the recovery disks I made for her. I used partition software to scan just the recovery partition, and there are no errors reported there. What I would like to do, is to copy to a flash drive, or make new recovery dvd's from this recovery partition; then I can use the coa from the back of the notebook (if necessary) for full install onto a new hard drive. However, I can't use the toshiba notebook for this; I can only use my desktop pc for the xfer; using the toshiba hard drive as a usb external drive, and the toshiba media creator software will not install onto my desktop pc (doesn't give me a reason). I would prefer to go the dvd-route, but flash drive would be ok, too. Any info is appreciated. thanks.

Hello, I've used the recovery media creator to create a USB flash drive recovery media.

If i then use that to restore the Windows 7 installation onto a new hard drive (as SSD) will that drive itself have the recovery media partition on it?

So if I then lose the USB stick could I restore again by holding down zero when powering on?

Or does it recover the Windows partition and nothing more?

Thank you

After I did a clean install of Win10 about a year ago, I created a USB Recovery Drive. I also have a Norton Security Recovery Drive and I?ve created USB Bootable PE Rescue Disk by Kyhi. I also use Acronis to create regular full disk images and I have a USB Bootable Acronis Rescue Drive.

With the USB Recovery Drive and the USB Bootable PE Rescue Disk by Kyhi, do I still need to keep the Recovery Partition that Win10 created when I did the original install? Are the files in that partition used by the system to create the USB Recovery Drive?

Also out of curiosity I executed the ?reagentc/info? command and I see that the Windows RE status is disabled. Did creating the USB Recovery Drive do that or is something else going on? If I keep the recovery partition then do I need to re-enable it and if so how do I do that?

Answer:Recovery Drive vs Recovery Partition vs PE Rescue Disk, confused.

Hi, you don't need the manufacturer's recovery partition unless you planned to restore the PC to as bought e.g. to sell it on.
You could create a disk image of it and save it on an external disk, then delete it from your PC.

Windows RE: Suggests you have a corrupt or missing partition - System Reserved. Note that Disk Management does not show this 16Mb partition. You need a 3rd party partition manager to see it.

See this (lots of technical detail):
Just a moment...

And do a couple of checks to see if it really is missing.

I recently bought a Satellite Pro L850-1UJ with Windows 8
http://www.toshiba.co.uk/laptops/satellite-pro/l850/satellite-pro-l850-1uj/

I've created a new partition (so i could use it as data room)
i.e. C: the windows system AND Z: my data

after that, i could NOT use the RECOVERY MEDIA CREATOR to create the recovery dvds
BUT the partition still exists and i can see the inside files from windows

IS IT a way to extract the files from the recovery partition or any other clue how i could fix the partition scheme so the RECOVERY MEDIA CREATOR could recognize it

Many thanks for your time...

Answer:Satellite Pro L850-1UJ: How create recovery DVDs from recovery partition

After changing HDD partitions structure it happens that ?Toshiba recovery media creator? cannot find recovery files. These files are marked with special markers that in your case cannot be found anymore.

I?m afraid now is too late to do or change anything. You are not the first one with this problem. We always write here that first step should be recovery media creation and later you can do whatever you want. You can even delete it.

Now you can just order new recovery disc at https://backupmedia.toshiba.eu/landing.aspx

** VIRTUAL RANK NEWBIE TO "OLDER" THINKPADS **My 'friend' gave me his R50e (1842-STU) to "fix" after he attempted to re-load Windows XP... Lord knows what he did - or why - but this is what I've got:I'd like to simply use the recovery partition to 'return to factory' - but I am not given that option when I press the blue 'Access IBM' button during bootup.  All I have are options to hit 'ESC' to resume normal boot - F1 to enter IBM BIOS  Setup utility - F12 to choose a temporary boot device.I've removed the HDD and connected to my Win 7 PC using a USB >IDE 'service interface' and I see what I believe is the 'service' and 'recovery' partition (brilliant that they named it "SERVICE") but how can I implement this to recover to factory? When I boot the PC, I'm presented with options to boot into one of his 'failed' XP installations OR into PC-DOS.If I choose the PC-DOS, I am presented with a single menu option:"1. Thinkpad T4x/R5x"but when I choose this, I get an immediate "File not found: 'C: \Command .com" with secondary messages saying:   2   *--*       "PLNRID.EXE                +++  RC(8)  That is the wrong diskette for this Thinkpad.  Please insert the correct diskette   22   *--*    "{ATI_CTYP.EXE"  ;    &n... Hi billzinn and welcome to the Community,

I think the key phrase here is, "after he attempted to re-load Windows XP".

It doesn't take much to mess up the recovery partition.
The easy way to straighten it out is to get yourself a set of restore discs and reinstall the os.
You can try to get them from service, link below, or get them from a supplier, link above.  I've gotten a few sets from the above over the years.

Hello!I just bought a Lenovo IdeaPad with a windows 7 32 bit version. There was no system disk added. I learned that the windows 7 version is hidden in a recovery partition. I now want to create a system disk to save the windows 7 32 bit version just in case and install a windows 7 ultimate 64 bit version on the computer. Can you tell me what I have to do? Thank you!

Answer:How to create a recovery system disk from the hidden recovery partition?

Hi and welcome,
One way is to save a recover set ... with OKR ... or better do this Backup before  ...but no way to get a  pure Windows 7 Install Disc if you mention this  ...

And Windows 7 64 Bit will not run on Atom based machine.. i.e. S10/S10e/S10-2 ,S12 Intel/Nvidia ...
(and even when, it lacks of memory 2GB (due the intel chipset restrictions) is good for 32 Bit based systems, but not really enough for 64 Bit based systems, so there is no benefit for use a 64bit on a netbook)
S10-3t W7 64 ?
