I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Wow , I have had the same problem , left hinge screw and besel came off and then got stuck between the screen and keyboard . Went to close the lap top and the screw was stuck in the hinge and next thing you know I have a cracked screen. Bought this laptop in December still under warranty , but HP says that this is not a know issue so they will not cover physical damage. Then I find this message board and wow , here we are all with a left hinge screw issue. Only problem this caused a broken screen. My case has been escalated still waiting for a call or email .  Any one have any advise? Geek Squad wants over 1000.00 to fix screen , that is more than I paid for the laptop new. Really disapointed in HP service , have a second HP Envy 17 in shop under warranty repair for a fan malfunction , they are fixing that one. This really may be my last HP. I own about 14 machines between my office and home. May be time to look for something else.

One of the screws that holds my HP Envy 17 - j013cl laptop casing together no longer attaches to anything (right hand side). It appears that the screw was once attached to a plastic fitting, but now that fitting is broken... When I open the laptop, the casing pulls apart near the hinge.I read other forums with this same issue (they are closed now). Can anyone please tell me how to fix the problem?

It appears that this is a common hardware problem for over two years, based on  the posts.  This is my son's laptop for college, so we have now had to swap out our home Hp Pavilion laptop with him.  We purchased a two year HP warranty, and it just recently expired.  This is our family's seventh HP desktop or laptop.  How is HP dealing with this issue?

One of the screws that holds my HP Envy 17 - j013cl laptop casing together no longer attaches to anything. It appears that the screw was once attached to a plastic fitting, but now that fitting is broken and the pieces of plastic are loose inside the laptop. When I open the laptop, the casing pulls apart near the hinge. I purchased the factory refurbished laptop in January of this year. How can the laptop be repaired? One source told me that they would have to replace the entire cover ... IF they could find one.  Is this repair covered under warranty? I just found a topic for the same issue with the dv7 "dv7 Left hinge pulling case apart? What the heck!".  It appears that HP have some real widespread problems with the left hinge of their laptop casings!

I have the exact same problem that I had been hearing when using the PC for a whie, maybe 6 months or more, but did not actually see the issue until I had to take the case apart to replace a fan that had failed (according to BSOD). What turned out to be the cause of the constant clattering and the fan failure, etc. was the pieces of the base that ,once upon a time, held the fitting that the hinge screws went into. The aggravating thing about this is that I had a Care Pack that had just expired on 8/15 which I feel sure would have covered at least the fan replacement if not the required parts for the hinge. If anything is being done about this issue, please let me know

Kevin, As a direct result of your input, I have since been contacted by Shaun with the Hewlett Packard AMS TCO Escalations Team and it appears that we may have come to an agreeable solution to resolve my broken hinge and destroyed fan issue. Although it is too soon to mark this as Resolved, I am really happy with the degree of ownership that Shaun has taken with my concerns. I do feel that this will come to a positive conclusion and will be sure that Kudos are made to you and Shaun and others as merited. New Parts, including new hinges and top and bottom cover, all received Saturday (overnight shipping included). Many Thanks to you and Shaun for your help.  Hi, I would like to understand how my problem will be dealt with as I am now working with a machine which is very physically fragile and I would like to get it fixed as quickly as possible so that no further damage is done to the machine. My machine is covered by warranty, but going through ww.hp.com/contacthp the site didn't agree.  So I put in my details and attached the invoice for the machine which says that I have a Care Pack which means that it still is in warranty.  Now I need to wait for 1 day until I get a response?  Very disappointingly, the page where I filled these details in did not even send me a "receipt" email, so I need to wait 1 day, hope that my warranty validation request was actually made, and hope for a response.  If I don't get a response, how then do I get back in touch (via what medium, I wonder?  it seems that I am not allowed to make a phone call?) So, hopefully this will be resolved by tomorrow.  At that point I can then type in again a description of the fault. Then what will happen?  I wait another day for someone to call me?  How many days will this take?  What can't I just phone someone?  Or even go on a "chat"?  I'm not allowed to do that as my warranty has expired (except that it hasn't actually expired - that's an HP mistake). The problem is that the case has broken at the location of the screws near the hinges on one side.  The scr... I've had my HP computer for just over two years so my warranty was conveniently just up. I recently noticed that one of the screws fell out of the bottom of the laptop from the top right hand corner or The one directly below the right screen hinge. When I open and close my laptop the screen comes apart from the black plastic hardware on the bottom, causing a cracking/clicking sound. I have tried to screw the screw back in but it doesnt lock in - the thread is broken. to be clear it's just that one hole which is broken and doesn't hold a screw properly. i have now read several forums and found that this is a common problem with HP products (and will never purchase an HP product again!) but not only that but that the company won't own up to it being a manufacturing issue. Likely it was a problem from the screw being over tightened at initial use. Unfortunately Hp , after spending over an hour on the phone with them, will not do anything for my case because my warranty is up - despite the fact that it is a manufacturing issue. And in fact they will charge me just a small $271.18 to replace a piece of PLASTIC. warning to all buyers to not purchase wth HP because your computer will probably break conveniently in time when your warranty is up. Furthermore the customer service representative on the phone said to me that it's probably my fault because I "must have dropped my computer" so I'm being blamed for HPs faulty products!! Do not purchase!!!!

Hello, I am having an issue with my HP Envy m6 n101dx.  A while ago, I noticed that there were missing screws on the top right and left corners of the bottom of the laptop. they are the ones directly above the fan slots and its counterpart on the right.  I was unsure if this was a manufacturing error or this was just simply a design. However, the top left corner of my laptop, right where the left hinge is has begun popping up as if this corner was loose.  It seems that other people have had issues with their hinges breaking, still i am unsure if this issue is due to the missing screws.  I would like to know if there was a manufacturing error and there should be screws in those slots or if im just having the same broken hinge issues as i see many others have.

Hi. Like many others, my right hinge is broken on my laptop. The screw stripped out and new screws cannot be screwed back in, making the screen off kilter and putting awkward pressure on the hinge and body. Needless to say I'm not thrilled about this on a $1,000+ laptop. I'd like to be directed to a part I can possibly get to repair this problem. I think the least HP can do is send me the part if it is fixable.

The right hinge broke on my ENVY m6. Now the left one is about to go. The waranty is up and I have noticed that this is a common problem with this product. I should hope that there has been a recall on this. HP should at least repair the issue free of charge (waranty or no waranty). I take great care of my things and my computer is no exception. Please give me advice on this one. I am extremely disappointed at this point.

Hi all I found on my E130 that bezel near left hinge works a little bit when I open my laptop and it's a bit loose. I tried to tighten a screw that is in the bottom on the left hand side of laptop and I probably overtightened it. Does this screw that you can see on the bottom on E130 keeps hinge in place or only keeps upper bezel in place? If I overtightened it, will my hinge pop out some day form the casing, or it doesn't really matters for roughnes of construction?  Still I doesn't see any chandge in case's and hinge beahviour, despite the fact I have one loose screw that I'm not able to tighten up. I also cannot screw it out...

Answer:E130 Hinge/screw problem

Hi Pawelt,

Welcome to Lenovo Community!

It keeps only the hinge in place.
The case is really rough but it may support upto certain level. It will be really difficult to assist on that.
I suggest you to get it checked in our service center because the screw thread might be gone wrong and it is not getting tightened properly.

Hope this helps.
Best regards,
Hemanth Kumar

The screw on the back under the right side hinge has become loose and fallen out twice.I put it back in the first time nice and tight and tightened all the other screws. It just fell out again!  This is with gentle handling.  And it took less than a month to wiggle loose.Would using a little Locktite blue on the screw when I put it back void my warrantee?

Answer:Y50-70 loose bottom screw under hinge.

No, the use of Locktite blue won't void the warranty and is probably a very good idea since this is a reoccurring problem. Be sure to just use a tiny dab on the threads.

I have it all back together but am missing the screw and metal retainer that is under the rubber foot on the left hinge. Is there anywhere I can get theses missing pieces or is there a simple way to put another type of screw in the hole I'm afraid without this screw as support it will weaken the spring again. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Getzie

The right hinge on my Envy 17 Touch Screen has failed, causing the case to become separated and the lid to be nearly impossible to close. This is the second Envy 17 to fail in this way. About a year ago my husband's broke and HP spent nearly three months attempting to repair it before finally just shipping him a new one. This appears to be a flaw in the construction of the hinge assembly, and we have noticed that the newer models, such as my husband's replacement, have a much improved design in comparison. We spent about $1,300 on this computer (it has an i7 Core and 16 GB of RAM) and hoped it would hold up for a while. The laptop was great, but now it has become difficult to use without fear of causing further damage. Thank you for any suggestions.

Hello, folks. I have a 3000 N100 that was purchased in June of 2007.  About two months into owning it, I noticed that the plastic around the screw on the right-side (looking from front, left side looking from rear) hinge had two small cracks radiating out from it.  As time has gone on, these cracks have grown.  I called support, and they say this is a billable repair and not covered undr warranty.  The laptop has never been bumped or dropped or anything... it's just a crack that is growing larger and larger.  It honestly looks like the screw was over-torqued at the factory. I am beginning to get quite concerned about the crack, as it is approaching the edge where the battery slides in.  There are mouldings there that the battery fits into.  If this plastic cracks all the way there, there is going to be issues with holding the battery in. Has anyone had this issue?  Am I basically out of luck on this without shelling out money (for a problem I didn't create?) A (less-than-optimal) picture of the crack can be seen here: http://i29.tinypic.com/ou42yw.jpg

Answer:3000 N100 crack behind hinge at screw hole... common?

Voices,I cannot address the warranty part of your question, but I did investigate the crack with manufacturing.  We have not seen this problem in the process before.  They did ask if I could get the exact machine type, model and s/n.  With that, we can identify the date of manufacture, and even check the specific records of your machine as it progressed through the mfg build and test operations to see if there was anything unusual. If you like, you can send me a private message with your type/model/serial number.  I'll continue to poke around and see if anyone has run across this problem before. Thanks,

As the title describes - a screw on my laptop has come loose and gone missing and now the bezel (the thin plastic cover surrounding the keyboard in case my use of bezel is wrong) has separated from the lower half of the casing on the upper right corner of my E145, above the kensington lock and mains input. The LCD hinge is now loose and lifts up when moved, the kensington lock housing also moves with it. This image shows the problem - that's the right side hinge, the separation can be seen at the top of the case and to the right of the kensington lock port, on the hinge itself. I haven't tampered with the screw in any way but did notice the bezel wasn't flush with the battery on this side (it is on the other hinge), so the screw has been loose for some time and finally worked its way free. I posted this thread before I realised the screw had gone but I might as well keep it up (if only to remind anyone else with this problem to check the screws ) but I have two questions: 1. In the event we're unable to find the screw, will it be possible to procure a replacement from Lenovo? When looking at the laptop from the bottom, the screw is located in the top left corner just above the rubber foot and battery release switch 1. 2. If the screw has come loose because the threading is damaged then this will need to be repaired. My laptop's warranty has not yet expired, will the warranty cover these repairs?

My envy x360 has an HDD, so I wanted to replace it with an SSD. This is the most recent version with a 7th gen processor. When peeling off the feet of the laptop, 1 screw refuses to come out. It keeps on turning, but does not actually come out. I was able to take off all other screws besides this one. Should I just give up? On an unrelated note, prying the back open is getting really hard and annoying. I already got a few scrathes. Dont know if its hard because the screw did not come out.

Answer:Screw not coming out of Hp envy x360

You have to get the screw off to get the back off. If it turns the only way to get it out may be to tap it. Try a device called Speedout...supposedly removes any screw.  http://www.ebay.com/itm/like/251269791625?lpid=82&chn=ps&ul_noapp=true Haven't tried it myself but I have tapped a few screws and this seems to have streamlined the process.

Hello Hp, I have an issue in regards to my laptop. First and foremost I want to stress I have never dropped or spilt or mistreated my laptop. I believe I take very good care of my laptop, which is why I never renewed my warranty subscription. I do frequently take my laptop to class at the university I attend so it does involve plenty of closings/openings and moving from place to place. I do not know whether this could impact this, but just three days ago (9/26/2016) I moved my laptop from my desk to my living room. In doing so the far left screw on the back cover fell out of the laptop. Confused I looked at it and put it back inside the laptop, but it would not screw in! It seems the screw has been stripped. Now when ever I open and close my laptop there is a large gap between the bottom cover and the top. Noticing that there has been several other cases online of the same scenario it has raised my questions. How can something like this happen too several people in the same sense. I would call but money is tight and do not want to pay to talk to someone. Is there another solution where I could possibly be sent a new back cover or possibly a new laptop? I have read up on the recall poilicies stated here: In cooperation with country government safety authorities, HP participates in voluntary recall programs when a defective part is shown to cause a potential safety hazard. These policies are found here: http://www8.hp.com/us/en/hp-information/recalls.html. I ... I did try to go through the online support chat without resolve. I am now coming on here with hopes that someone can lead me in the right direction. Thank you and have a wonderful day!

Question: HP Envy Hinge

I bought this laptop about 2 years back and while it was under warrenty had to have it fixed because of issues with the hinge, which, I understand is a common problem for the envies. After a year and a half of very delicate care and no longer under warrenty, the hinge is once again breaking down and likely to become completely unusable again. I called tech support about the issue and was told that repairs would now cost 250 dollars, which is, frankly, unacceptable. I really like this laptop, but this issue with the hinge has been a constant headache. I, like another who I saw post about this issue, would love to see HP stand behind their product and have this mistake in production taken care of.

Question: Envy hinge

Through normal use, and to be honest, the laptop is only used very sparingly, the left hinge has broken and this has also damaged part of the plastic bezel next to the screen. I am not very happy as I have also seen this on a friends 17" HP and it has completely put me off your brand. These issues are documented far and wide online and I am shocked that you can sell a product with such bad build quality. I always opened the laptop with both handsides and treat things I own with respect and care.

Question: Envy Hinge

Hello. My right laptop hinge has been progressively loose in the past few months and the body of the right side has become separated. This is despite completely normal usage, and no tough handling at all. My computer is now refusing to turn on. I was wondering how it would be possible to fix the computer.

Question: HP Envy 17T Hinge

When I open/close the laptop I feel the left back side shifting.  It looks like the hinge is shifting and then separating part of the upper case from the lower case.   I can push the pieces back in place but the next time I open/close the case the same thing happens.   I received the laptop in April 2014.  What steps do I need to take to get this repaired under warranty.  This is a HP ENVY 17t Quad TouchSmart Product number: E2E11AV. Thanks!!

Hi All,I just came across this topic. My HP Envy M6, purchased in November 2014, also has a broken hinge (left one).It has broken in normal use a couple of months after my warranty expired. I was quoted roughly $250 for the repair which seems to be too high. Also I read it as a design issue with most of the HP Envy customers reporting the same.  I am not sure as to how should this be fixed. Can HP please take notice of this and help me at a very minimum cost or no cost at all (since this seems like a design issue and too many customers reported the same issue). Thanks in advance.

I'm having the problem with my left hinge.  The hinge started to crack out of nowhere and the lid screen did not close properly.  I've been trying to find a fix for this for months and the problem is I have no idea how to repair it without spending a LOT of money.  The monitor still works but in the beginning when the hinge started cracking I stopped closing the lid all together.  It seems as if hp hp should address this issue because it seems to be quite common as I came across this when I googled this problem. I too now have a broken hinge.  I am very careful with everything I own, and am very disappointed in HP and the broken hinge. My computer was purchased August 2014, and rarely leaves my desk.  I rarely close the top, and I don't know what to do next. It was not a cheap computer  at Best Buy and I would hope you will stand behind your prodcut. Thank you

If your pc is still covered by the 1yr factory warranty Or if you have any extended warranties with hp, there would be no charges to get the hinges replaced, as there are no charges for normal wear/tear issues.please call HP via 1800-474-6836 for further support.

Question: Envy Hinge Broken

I have had my Envy for about four years now - obviously the warranty is gone. I bought it from Best Buy. It has worked perfectly normal. I have never had an issue, the keys dont stick, it looks brand new. I take very good care of it and have been pleased with the product. Today I closed it after I was finished with it and the hinge completely broke loose and the bottom plate of the computer cracked. How could this happen with no damage and no issues? I have tried to contact HP but can not get through to anyone but a computer. Clearly this is an issue with this product and was wondering who I contact at HP for help? Thank you!

Otherwise being a fine laptop, this laptop was not built to last. THE HINGE WILL BREAK. During my tenure with this laptop, both hinges broke. Once, it happened under warranty. The second time, even though this issue happens to many people, it was out of warranty and HP would not cover the repairs. The estimated cost of the repairs were $250. My laptop broke at 8 months old and 2 years old. I have never dropped this laptop, never treated it with anything but the best care.  No laptop should break as often as this  one did.   I mentioned that I have seen many other customers with this problem on forums, reviews, etc. The representative said that they have a list of products normally recalled for said issues.  I will be posting this review everywhere.  Do not buy this laptop.  Two words. Planned. Obsolescence. Do not waste your money on a product that will break. Instead, just buy a Mac or something else.

I bought my HP Envy 360 at the beginning of fall semester this year (August 2016) and I opened it up this morning (October 30, 2016)  only to find the hinge popped out of place, the screen splitting from the back, and a screw breaking loose from the inside. I can't close my laptop now and I have no idea what to do to fix this, and a quick search found that this was a common problem in Envy models. My laptop is still under warranty, but how do I get this fixed? I have a lot of papers and school work due and a working laptop is a necessity right now. Please help!

Hi,  I've had issues with creaking noises from the the left hinge on my HP ENVY 17 Notebook PC machine and having opened the screen gently as I always do today, the hinge seems to be broken and plastic screw casing has fallen out.  I've checked the forums and this has been a defect issue for a lot of the machines and I'm having the exact same problem with overheating too. (I thought this was a genuine issue with most HP's as per the customer rep who sold me the laptop).  Sometimes the keyboard becomes way too hot in the top left corner to type. Please can someone inform me what I need to do. The laptop is around 18 months old. I've enclosed an image of the problem.

First off, I want to say, I LOVE my HP Envy - it is the perfect laptop for me.  Sleek and light, and has all the processing power that I need.  It's been my best laptop purchase, I've been so happy with it. THAT said - the right hinge just broke.  I'm always very careful with it, but the hinges have always been tight, and have squealed whenever opened or closed.  It finally gave way when opening it.  The hinge broke away from the frame.  The problem and damage seems to be completely isolated to the hinge itself - everything else continues to function properly. I want to keep this laptop, so I took it in to be repaired.   The repair was more than I paid for the laptop.  I was gutted. So, I went online to see if I could tackle the repair myself.  I saw that MANY other HP Envy users were having the same problem from this Manufacturing Defect, and that HP was repairing the hinge. Can you please point me in the right direction to have HP perform this repair?  Even if I must pay a repair fee, since it is out of warranty.  (I would be thrilled if HP covered this repair, though - being a manufacturing defect that so many other Envy users have been affected by)Many thanks.

Answer:HP Envy Broken Hinge

Hi,HP Envy M6 series laptops have this design flaw and I have repaired an M6 laptop myself. The cost of the repair is basically only the cost of the base enclosure and around 30 in my case but that was caused because the item was bought in the US and shipped to the UK. You have to tell us the product model number such as B4D17EA. Then we can search the right part number and the part itself on ebay or other online retailers. I remember that people with Envy M6 laptops were contacted by HP representatives but have no idea what the outcome was.

My hinge is broken on my computer.  Has been for over 6 months.  I've contacted y'all once before about this but here I am again.  I am not going to pay over 200 dollars for this to be fixed because it was made crappy.  It is an all to common problem from what I am seeing.  This computer has not been dropped and goes every where in a padded case.  I am a graduate student and the last time yall offered to fix it I couldn't afford to be without it for two weeks or afford the 200 dollars to fix a problem that is hp's problem initially.  It is way past my warranty now but when the problem began it was just a few months past my warranty.  I am sick of not getting any answers as well as not being able to get in touch with anyone from hp who can talk to me about this problem.  I've gone as long as I could with a broken computer and i'm just waiting on the day that the screen just comes completely off of the keyboard.   I've taken to a computer repair guy that basically told me it's because some plastic screws on the inside of my computer are stripped and that is why the hinge isn't working properly, why my screen is floppy and why I can't open or close my computer normally.  Before I even got to the place, he guessed that my computer was an hp because of this same problem he has seen with tons of hp's.  How do you expect loyal customers to pay for this when it was obviously not made correctly or with good parts that wo... My HP Envy 17 recently started popping the back left hinge cover. The hinge is broken off of the PLASTIC piece it screws in to and a bunch of small plastic pieces came out of the cover. This laptop has been extremely taken care of there's no reason for it to break other than a faulty design. Ofcourse this had to happen right after my warranty ran out.  I'm very dissapointed as this is an expensive laptop that shouldn't have these design flaws!

Hello, my HP Envy m6 left hinge recently broke. I have not dropped it, and always keep it in a temperature controlled environment. I am very worried because I have not done anything to cause this and every time I open the device it creaks. I have not been using it very much until a solution is found to fix it. I am worried it has something to do with the battery recall of overheating batteries even though it says mine is not eligible, I just wonder if it hasn't been identified yet. Thanks.

I have an HP Envy 17 TouchSmart j023cl notebook, never transported outside my office nor dropped it. I have the exact same problem that other people have. The mounting base of left hinge got broken, and some plastic fragments are falling out of case. The bottom case started to separate from the top cover if I don't hold the two together when I close the laptop.  I do not believe this to have occurred due to any fault of mine. My warranty has expired on August 2015. I?d like HP to fix it for free, or send me needed part and I will take care of it. Thanks,--

Hinges on my HP Envy dv7 were very tight, even when newly purchased.  Over a year ago, the right hinge cracked and now the hinge is dislocated out of its housing.  When I open the hinge, the hinge is forcing the top fascia panel out, and there is separation at the corner.  It appears to me that this issue is a common problem that can be traced back to overly tight and weak hinges (a design deficiency), since normal usage should not result in this type of damage.  I would appreciate if the HP community is aware of any recall on this product or there is any recourse to have it repaired under workmanship warranty.

My HP Envy's hinge is detaching as the casing is cracking open. I have never dropped it or damaged it any manner. Everything else works perfectly. I have barely had my computer over a year now which is not a long time and this seems to be a very popular problem. I will have to pay to get this fixed due to a manufacturing problem and being a college student that is definitely not in my budget especially with the precaution I take with this laptop. I love this product and so far I have had a great HP experience. I would hope HP is going to back their product!

I know it's a shot in the dark, but I'm hoping someone can offer me some help. I've had my HP Envy for about 2 years and I've always been very careful with it, but last year one the hinges started to pop out. I was still under warranty and was able to have it fixed for free and everything was great. Now, just over a year later, the same hinge has broken again. I don't have the money to fix it and it's at the point where I can't open the laptop because the hinge caused the bottom of the computer to separate. This seems to be a really common problem with the HP Envy and it seems like HP should have some way to fix this (for less than the $350 I was quoted at my local store). Anybody?

I've had this laptop for several years now, and recently i noticed the screw that held the hinge in became broken or something and the hinge freely moves when I open and close the laptop.  It has gotten so bad that dead pixels have appeared in the left corner where the hinge was broken and the surrounding plastic of the screw broke apart. My warrenty is obviously out but I was wondering if there was anyway I could get this fixed since the build quality of these laptops is terrible. My laptop has a broken hinge, otherwise it works great. It is out of warranty. I had contacted HP earlier in the year and they were gracious to offer to fix it free  of cost. However, I was unable to ship the machine right away due to personal reasons, and now the free repair offer has been retracted. Would appreciate any help. Best,Ravi

I  just came across this topic. My HP Envy m6-1184ca, purchased November 7, 2012, also has a broken hinge. It broke in normal use a couple of months after the warranty expired. I was quoted $300 for the repair, roughly 50% of the purchase price. With no relief forthcoming I declined the repair and have been using it by propping the screen against several books. I look to HP to repair to computer at minimum or no cost to me.

I am not sure where this post goes so I assume it goes in this forum. My right hinge is broken and I don't know what to do. I did nothing to harm my computer. So I don't understand why it broke. It is not even a year old yet. I guess my real question would be how much is this going to cost me to get it repaired. But, then again.. WHY DID IT HAPPEN IN THE FIRST PLACE.All answers will be appreciated. Thank you.

I have an HP Envy M6 notebook (purchased in January 2013). I have the exact same problem that dozens of other people have had: the right hinge on my notebook has broken somehow. The casing threatens to separate from the screen if I don't hold the two together when I close the laptop. I do not believe this to have occurred due to any fault of mine, as several others have had the same issue. I am quite sure my warranty has expired, but I don't care about that. I think HP should do something to fix my computer, or to give me a different one, as I would not have bought this computer had I known how poorly built it was. Thank you for your help. Sincerely,Alex Kaczmarek

Hello, like many others I am working on a customers laptop where the hinge has separated from the post.  This has also caused the screen to be distorted from time to time. I cannot repair this properly myself so I was wondering what direction I should take. Thanks!

Hi,I purchased a Envy m6 in 2013 (now out of warranty). Approximately 1 year ago I noticed the plastic hinges would make a slight noise when opening the screen to 90degrees. I soon noticed the right plastic hinge was cracked and when open the black screen surround would be separating from the silver outside cover. After time it had progessed to separating the screen approximately 1-2cm. I have never dropped or damaged this laptop, and has had very minimal use over the last 3 years. I used to be able to click the screen back together when closing the lid quite easily. As of today it is very difficult to push the screen back together when closed.I have seen many posts on the internet about this problem. Does hp fix this problem? This laptop doesnt even leave the computer desk. Hardly gets used, maybe a handful of times a month for no more than 1hour at a time. I have been unable to use my laptop since November because I'm scared of the screen breaking.

Never used a forum in the past, and I'm not sure I'm in the right place now.  But I have an HP Envy (don't know off hand the screen size), but I've been reading about all the hinge breakage issues, as my LH hinge pushes the bottom LH plastic cover under the hinge down.  I'm concerned that the hinge on this laptop is about to go out. I bought this laptop December of 2014, warranty ran out December of 2015.  I'm just about to get to the two year old mark.  I've had two HP desktops, and this is the second HP laptop.  I've been glad to stick with HP, but now I need HP's help.  as a lot of other folks have mentioned, the laptops are too expensive to have something like this happen, and it's unreasonable to spend half the cost of the laptop for repairs. I'd like someone from HP to contact me to discuss this.

This seems to be a common problem.  I purchased the HP Envy Touchsmart 15 in April 2015 to replace the virtually identical computer which had the same hinge problem.  On the first laptop, the HP quote to fix it was exorbitant so I found someone else.  The repair did not last. So I replaced the computer and now have the same problem with the second one.  The left hand hinge is breaking away and gradually getting worse.  I have read a few posts on line giving descriptions of repair efforts.  Tried to repair the first laptop but could not get at the hinge to repair it. Any suggestions

Left hinge y the power button is broken and causing issues.  It actually sometimes prevents my laptop from starting.  I have to shut the lid.  press the bottom base cover and keyboard back together and then carefully open the lid and try and start it.  Lots of folks in this forum seem to be having the issue.  How can it be fixed?

I just had a double break on my HP Envy Laptop after very light use.  I bought two laptops from HP at the time of this purchase and now both have broken.  Not very pleased with HP quality at this time.  Might need to think about a switch.  Frustrating buying a product that does not last!

Less than a year after getting this computer, the right hinge broke. I fought to get it repaired by HP and had to pay to get it shipped somewhere and didn't have a computer for almost a month. Less than a year after that incident, I have the same incident on the left hinge. The bottom cover is popping off because of the hinge and something is rattling inside. My laptop is a necessity and it was expensive and I treat it with care. It was not dropped or banged. It rarely leaves my desk. There is no excuse for having the same problem twice. Except now I don't have time to send it out to get it fixed and I don't have the money. How can I fix this problem that is poor design not my fault?

Sadly, I've also joined the ranks of the HP broken hinge crowd. I purchased a refurbished HP ENVY Sleekbook 6-1014nr. At that time I had litttle hesitation with the purchase due to what I thought was a great reputation for HP laptops. This laptop was handled with care and with pride. It was a great little machine, puchased to support my school classes. Of course a while after the 90 day warranty was up the first hinge popped loose. Handling the laptop thereafter with kids gloves unfortunately didnt prevent the remaining hinge from seperating as well. Some internet research quickly revealed that this is a widespread HP design defect and is very common in HP laptops. Shame on me for doing my due diligence prior to my purchase. The laptop now functions solely as a desktop with the screen propped up against the wall. It is far too fragile to consider even closing the screen and using it in the intended manner. I do think the machine is a great little laptop aside from this major design issue and with school now back in session I'm open to suggestions. Any recommendations on a cheap and effective repair?

Question: Envy broken hinge

I have a broken hinge on the left side of  my notebook.  It has not been dropped or damaged - it appears to be a design flaw.  Of course it didn't break until it was out of warranty.  Other than this hinge problem it has been a great computer so I really don't want to replace it.  I would like to find out how to go about having it repaired.  Any help would be appreciated!

Both hinges on my HP Envy m6 have broken. The computer is about 5 months out of warranty. I am very disappointed in the quality of this product. The hinges should never break down in such a short time.   Reading through the many posts on this hinge problem I think HP should have a recall on all the defective hinges and make things right.

Great news HP ROCKS, I received an email from JeffHelp. He arranged for someone from customer support to phone me about the broken hinges on my computer.  The very next day HP sent me a box to ship my computer to there service department. Two day later my computer was on it way back to me fully repaired free of charge. Now that's fantastic service and second to none. That's product support. Thanks HP.

My envy notebook hinge is broken becuase HP has poor design. I need to get this fixed but it seems I cant contact HP other than on this message board because it is out of warranty and I have to pay to call them! HP needs to do a better job standing behind their products, this is likely the last time I get an HP.

My laptop hinge has cracked. There has been no trauma to the laptop at all. It simply cracked one day while I was opening the laptop. The border of the screen has a crack in it and is causing a separation from the screen. I actually have had to put tape on this area to keep it together and to keep it from breaking more. I've read a lot of individuals having the same problem with this same model laptop and I'm disappointed. I spent over $1k on this laptop and thought I'd get more than a couple of years out of it. I hope that HP will stand behind its product and repair this without cost to me since this is clearly a known issue in the model.
