Lenovo Ideapad 710s user experience (not a review!...

Question: Lenovo Ideapad 710s user experience (not a review!...

A quick note to say I am not a professional reviewer, at most an advanced user. I got quite a few PM?s on the product and thought will share my experience. My Config: i5, 1.8 GHZ, 8GB RAM, 256 GB SSD, Windows 10 64 bit, Home edition. Usable SSD: 190GB (Lenovo uses a 20GB partition for recovery and rest is used by Windows). I would rate this machine 8.0/10 - if they fixed the touch pad and paint it would be 9/10 in my books. Best features:Weight : Felt lighter and smaller than Macbook air 13: my rating 8.5/10Price / Performance: loads Photoshop CC loads in 5 secs : 9/10Battery : whole day out with normal work of 4/5 hours and presentations 8/10Charging time: 15% to 60% in 50 mins, while continuing to work on the PC: 8/10Design: Simple approach, thin Bezel, nonslip rubber grip under the chassis: 7/10Call centre: waiting time and attitude: 8/10Great form factor: I am leaving my tablet home: 9/10Ports: 2 USB and 1 thunderbolt port (I bought a $ 3 thunderbolt to HMDI adapter for presentations) : 9/10.Spacebar scroll: pressing the pressbar will scroll the page (down only).Warranty: 2 years compared to Mac or Dell?s 1 year (can vary by geography) 9/10 Needs improvements:Sound: My Samsung headset from S5, sounds full of bass and body, when plugged in. PC speakers are a bit weak considering how thin it is. 6.5/10Touch pad accuracy and feel : Gold standard is Macbook. In this PC its sticky and you have to learn the right amount of pressure - especially while three finger scrolling 4/10Mouse click: deep travel and stiff ? 5/10Enter key does not work to bring up log in screen ? you got to press the mouse click when the screen is locked. No close fitting case / pouch available as the size is odd ? between 12? and 13?Choice of colour & finish ? bright silver or bright gold ? matt black not available. Smooth finish prone to scratch. 5/10.Misleading battery gauge 2/10 Some detailed experience:Last week my Asus Zen UV32X packed up and I had to get a new notebook as it is my lifeline. I wanted to get the Dell XPS 13 or the Apple Macbook air 12 inch. On reaching the shop, I reviewed a few other models, including the Asus 305, which seemed way too bulky. The Dell was just perfect, but felt a bit heavy and frightfully expensive. That where the sales lady pointed to the Lenovo 710S. It had the right specs ? min 8GB RAM and 256GB SSD that I wanted, had a slim bezel, was lighter that the Macbook. But Lenovo? Not sure. Anyway, I ended up buying it. It?s a lovely machine and I don?t regret it a bit! The colors are not to my liking ? the bright silver works to some extent, but looks cheap, the golden is a no no and there is no matt black. The paint work has no protective quote like Asus and you have to be careful how not slide it in with stuff that can scratch (like a spiral note book). My 4 year old Asus never had a scratch and I picked up one in the first week on710s. Now I put it in a plastic sleeve. The MS windows and other stuff loaded quite easily. The wifi is very fast at 5 GHZ. The battery is under some kind of electronic lock at start up - it comes alive when you plug in the power for the first time. Rest is quite easy. There was a problem with the battery gauge. The display of ?time remaining? on charge was erratic (see the other blog). Any way I ran some simple tests like playing You tube for 1.5 hours with 75% brightness and 50% sound ? the power utilisation was acceptable. So I decided to ignore the issue. It charged from 15% to 60% in 50 minutes, while continuing normal work on MS office. The display is not a Dell or Mac Retina! It?s matt finish and a bit dull compared to others. But its sufficiently bright for most of my work, though in bright ambient light, you got to work at 75% brightness or more. If I had a choice again what would I buy ? probably the Lenovo 710s as I value portability, battery and service support? I will live with the clunky touch pad and mouse! The charging light blinks till you reach 80% then stays on. I would prefer it to blink all the way to 100%? You can see how the efficient the charging is - and I kept on using email and browsing during the charge. ? ? ? The battery drain test. It drained from 36% to 28% in 23 minutes, all the while playing YouTube at 75% screen brightness and 50% volume? ? See the scratch after 7 days of usage. I have used Asus UX32A for 45 years in the same leather pouch. Now I got a plastic sleeve for this PC. ? The rubber strip under belly - it props the PC when working and doubles up as an excellent non slip grip when hand held.? I loaded the Yoshemite desktop of Mac just for fun. It also let me compare the colors to my daughters MacbookAir 13. The 710s lacks vibrance and saturation. I had to increase these in software to come anywhere near the mac display. ?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I am totally disappointed in Lenovo's customer support. My lenovo 710s was bought less than 1 year ago (as of 10/6/2017, when I sent it in for repairs) and had 2 years warranty (1+1 year of extended warranty). I sent my laptop for repair due to a white spot issue on the monitor, affecting viewing of webpages and videos. However, the laptop was returned after 3 weeks without any fixes/repairs, as Lenovo claimed that it was a cosmetic issue. I wrote a message on their customer care website on 3/7/2017. However, they ignored me and there was no reply to date.  I thought Lenovo is a reliable and popular brand. However, it turned out to be a horrible decision, much to my dismay!

Okay so I've had this computer less than 3 months and it's given me nothing but problems. Now it refuses to even turn on. The power LED turns on but the screen remains blank. This is an non removal battery type before anyone says remove the battery and use the adapter. I've drained the battery which has worked before but this time when I try to charge it the orange battery LED blinks three times. And still nothing on the screen. Any Lenovo stores are quite far away. Anyone knows what's going on?

Hi  I am thinking of purchasing a 13" Lenovo ideapad 710s ($1199 model) over a MacBook air. I have been using a macbook air for several years and recently thought of getting a new laptop. Lenovo's 710s seems to be quite good on paper (except the battery life), but I couldnt find any reviews online which can tell me if the laptop is as good as Lenovo projects it to be. If anyone has bought/used Lenovo 710s, can  you guys chime in and let me know if this laptop came on par with your expectations (esp. the battery life)? Thanks

Dear Lenovo Community, I've just bought my Lenovo Ideapad 710S two days ago. Bought the highest-end configuration with 16GB RAM + 512GB PCIE SSD. I got to say I'm absolutely in love with the form factor and its performance. I decided upon this laptop mainly because of its portability and the combination of 16GB RAM + 512GB SSD at less than $2k. DesignAt 1.1kg, it is really light - I can hold in up effortlessly with one arm. At home, I use a Dell monitor (U2715H) which is almost borderless; looking at 710S's edge, it is equally slim and is key to making it look stylish. The matte screen display has very crisp, clear text and is very comfortable to look at. PerformancePerformance wise, there is no complain. It lives up to what it's spec-ed on paper. Every application and operation (e.g. startup, shutdown, boot from sleep) loads at breakneck speeds thanks to its PCIE SSD. I've yet to try running more intensive software e.g. the Adobe suite but at this rate, it looks promising thus far. AccuType KeyboardAt first, I thought the flat keys have really little travel to bottom-out but as I spend more time typing on it, I gradually grew to like the keyboard. It's well spaced-out, typing on it can be very accurate. Key travel is reasonable for faster typists. Only thing is the placement of backspace, enter and shift button at the right side needs some extra time to get used to it as I find they placed more to the right than it is on comm... Read more

Hello everyone, I've recently bought a brand new ideapad 710s and I'm having some issues with it. The problem is that the laptop's fan is making loud noises and it is heating up real fast even though I don't play games or use softwares that might pressure the laptop. Basiscally, I use it for microsoft office and internet surfing. Did anyone have the same problem? How could I solve this issue? Any help will be appreciated.

Hi, since I got my Ideapad 710s everything has been running smoothly, however, in the last month or so whenever I load something the mouse cursor disapears. If I go into settings and set the mouse pointer again it will appear as normal when something is loading, but within five minutes will go back to disappearing.  Another problem that started slighlty before that was that the night light (blue light filter) setting refused to turn off between 9pm and 6am, even when it said it was turned off. Now it is turned off, but won't turn on.  In general there has been lots of little settings malfunctions just like this, which while not laptop breaking, are increasingly annoying.  Any suggestions?

Answer:Lenovo Ideapad 710s cursor disappearing and other malfunctions

Hi there, Frevans                       -

Thank you for writing in to the Lenovo Forum - happy to have you here today.

Just to verify, did you encounter this issue the first time you setup the PC or you just encountered this lately?

If it's just lately, can you try one of the following?

Disable "hide pointer while typing" under Control Panel (large icon view) > Mouse > Pointer Options Tab and enable "Show location of pointer when i press CTRL key"
  - Link to picture

Uninstall the Touchpad Driver (ELAN or Synaptics) under Control Panel > Programs and reboot. Upon logging back in, Windows will use a generic touchpad driver. Try to observe the mouse pointer behavior and observe (you can always re-install the touchpad driver by navigating to D:\Drivers\Touchpad or by downloading the driver from the lenovo website).

Boot in Safe Mode with Networkingand observe the mouse pointer behavior. If all goes well, perform a clean boot and observe. If same problem, perform a System Restorein safe mode to undo any possible updates that was installed on the system (ensure that you make a backup copy of your files).

Update us how it goes.

Today, I updated my Realtek Audio Driver to version 6.0.1.7831 (dated 7/21/2016). After installation, I immediately realized that the taskbar icon changed from Dolby to Realtek default icon:? -> ? Next, I went to Programs and Features and found out that "Dolby Audio X2 Windows APP" disappeared from the list. Originally, both of these Dolby programs came with the laptop:? After the update, I was only left with this:? The impact of this is that I can no longer toggle the different sound features provided by the Dolby App. I contacted Lenovo via online chat support but the personnel insists Dolby is not a supported program by Lenovo without giving me a valid solution or answer. Did Lenovo omit Dolby App in the latest Audio Driver by mistake? Or did Lenovo intentionally removed it due to the vulnerability explained here: "Dolby Audio X2 (DAX2) privilege escalation" https://support.lenovo.com/sg/en/product_security/len_4884#/IdeaPad. If anybody is facing the same issue / has any solutions / answers, kindly leave a comment below. When trying to install or to convert from USB to wireless,it fails , the HP software can not find the "Network Device".Ideapad connects to the wireless network (same network the printer is connected to). Thanks for any help.

Overview

There are many reviews of IdeaPad Yoga 2 Pro on the web, however this is slightly different, as i am reviewing it from a ThinkPad user perspective. I have recently acquired a ThinkPad Yoga for review, and it has been my main work machine for the last 3 weeks. Prior to that i had the IdeaPad Yoga 13, which i used quite extensively for about 2 months, but in the end i sold it to a friend whom wanted the machine. Yesterday, i received an IdeaPad Yoga 2 Pro, which i have to say has a fantastic build quality, and the screen is just gorgeous.

Build Quality

The build quality of the IdeaPad Yoga 2 Pro is simply amazing. There is no creaking in any part of the chassis body, and there is absolutely no flexing in and around the keyboard or palmrest area. Even though the screen casing is not made of magnesium or aluminium really can stand up to punishment. I could literally lift the entire weight of the laptop by holding onto the edge the Yoga 2 Pro's screen, and there was only minimal torsional bending. I have done a similar test on the ThinkPad Yoga screen, and there was lot more torsional bending (there were also lot more creaking sound). Also, the way that the Gorilla glass is used on the IdeaPad Yoga 2 Pro added tremendous amount of structural ridigity to the screen, which the ThinkPad Yoga lacked.

Surface Finish

The IdeaPad Yoga 2 Pro uses a rubberised surface finish to increase grip on top and bottom of the chassis. While the p... Read more

hello friends i am planing to buy this lenovo ideapad y570 but i noticed that there is a lot of problems in this  laptop like overheating and screen issues so what you advice me ? should i buy this brand or look for another brand like toshiba or hp ?need your opinions please ,, sorry for my english

Answer:lenovo ideapad y570 users experience

IMHO, I would go with a different brand.  Lenovo's IdeaPad designs are not ready for prime time...too many issues that should have been resolved prior to releasing the designs for production.  And post-sale support is simply awful...nothing like the excellent experience I use to have with Lenovo's ThinkPad designs and service.  Again, just my opinion based on my experience thus far with two Y470 machines.

I have had the Y710 for about 4 months now. Here is what I think. 1) The computer is crap.2) There is a hum whenever brightness is decreased.3) The hinges are starting to squeak4) The Lenovo softare hogs to much memory5) The sound plus or minus the subwoofer is subpar to other computers. Experiencing crackling noises when playing audio. Sound driver has been updated to latest version per Realtek.6) FN + PgUp/PgDn(Home/End) keys very hard to use7) Lenovo support is non existent8) Did not come with an image of VISTA on DVD. Requested from Lenovo and received no response. Was told that without VISTA installed Lenovo will NOT look at the computer if the computer is experiencing problems.9) The drivers appear buggy. Problems with Windows XP freezing when resuming from Standby.10) When resuming from standby, screen returns to full brightness. Now onto the minor problems:1) Screen is too reflective2) Bios is buggy. Unplug the power cable and fan will turn on very loud.3) Inconsistent temperature management. Sometimes exceeds 70c without fan turning on.4) Touchpad scrollbar function self disables sometimes requiring a restart.5)  Fan sometimes make a grumbling sound such as the sound of a fan on an old power supply of a desktop. Suggestions for improvement: 1) Integegrate all Lenovo Software into a single control program.2) Fix the brightness issue so that the computer does not resume from standby at full brightness.3) Change policy for technicians to look at... Just to preface this - I am pretty well versed in computers, have helped friends and family with numerous computer issues and only get tech support involved as a last ditch effort if its beyond software/driver issues. So I buy my daughter a refub Z580 quad core Win 8 laptop directly from Lenovo last June 2013 for her birthday - Her first laptop.  First Lenovo laptop I have purchased. Besides the horrible touchpad (Which I turned off)  Immediately the laptop has sound issues which require me to send in to repair as it was a hardware issue.  Then over the last year and 2 months have fought with Internet connectivity issues - coming out of sleep it or starting up it can't see a connection, even though its there.  I have tried all the fixes, updating drivers, reverting drivers, turning off power saving etc. Well the latest, and probably the last thing to happen is my daughter turns it on the other day and display has just static vertical streaks on the right side of the screen for about 2 inches to the right edge -  So either the display is shot already or the graphics card, and this conveniently happens 2 months after the warranty ends.  Also, since Win8 uses a charms bar on the right side, can't even use that.  So I am trying to plug in a VGA external monitor to determine if the issue is the screen itself or the graphics card/processor.  Can't seem to get the computer to recognize a vga cable is plugged in - What do I do to acti... In terms of specifications alone, you?d be hard pressed to find another laptop with these specs at this price and weight. Hello everyone. The lenovo U260 was "supposedly" released for sale on November 15, 2010... ever since then i've been trying to buy one.  However, it is nowhere to be found on the Lenovo Site? What's going on?  Can someone from lenovo chime in on this one please...?? There's even a coupon for the u260:  http://www.logicbuy.com/deals/lenovo-ideapad-u260/26469.aspx Thanks!

Alright, I purchased this Laptop through newegg and it was advertised with a discounted price for the Windows 8 upgrade.  So I have been struggling to install windows 8 in my limited spare time and running in to the problem where after it copies files it reboots and then just quickly tells me that my pc has encountered a problem and needs to be restarted and off it goes to a reboot and restores my Windows 7.  I tried a clean install to find that the boot volume was "OEM locked" or something like that.  So I figured it had to be the Hybrid SSD+SATA HDD thing.   So I searched and searched and searched, tried different things had to do the system recovery a few times and nothing worked.  So I called Lenovo tech support.  The first guy was nice enough, but said that I had to speak with enhanced support or something like that and that they would call in 1 to 2 hours.  Well, two days went by and they never contacted me.  So I called them today on my lunch hour, they had to call me back, but never did.  So I called again and this time the lady told me that I needed to talk to the Hardware support team because they know about the problem, but the OS upgrade problem is not covered under the warranty and I would need to pay 89.00 to get the answer.   So I said Uh no thank you, and asked if they had some online resources that I could take a look at to try to self help my problem.  She said no, there is not because "Windows 8 is... I have owned Thinkpads since the IBM T31. Have had owned around 5 in total, the latest being the T440s.  I think the best thinkpad I have owned, is the T400 which seemed to get everything right (except the screen resolution could have been higher).  Now, the T440s.   It is a great machine except for one thing.   The trackpoint left /middle / right buttons are now built into the touchpad.  For me, who works 8 hours a day on this sometimes, the new trackpoint buttons are a disaster.  Lenovo have gone from a perfect ergonomic solution to clumsy and uncomfortable experience.  Several reasons.... -The new touchpad buttons are awkard to reach and require unnatural thumb / wrist rotation which causes soreness after a period of use.  -It is easy to miss the exact spot to press the new trackpoint butttons. This causes a missed click even though you think you are clicking in the right spot it might be on the border between 2 buttons.   It is like using a mouse with the dodgy left/right button.  -More pressure is required to fire the click.  My previous 3-button trackpoint buttons required comparatively soft presses to generate a click.  -Tactile feed back is lacking. Previous 3-button trackpad buttons had nice tactile response.  All of these issues quickly add up to a sore thumb and awkward user  experience.  Personally, I think it is a huge step backwards and I'd rat...  "Lenovo ThinkPad W530 User Review"  was posted on notebookreview.com:http://www.notebookreview.com/default.asp?newsID=6532&p=2 Unfortunately, the performance benchmarks for the W530 in this review are overall lower than the Dell Precision M4600http://www.notebookreview.com/default.asp?newsID=6400&p=3 and the MacBook Pro Retina 2012http://www.notebookreview.com/default.asp?newsID=6495&p=2 Note that the W530 tested has a 32GB SanDisk mSATA SSD, whereas the Dell was configured with a 128GB Samsung PM810 mSATA SSD and the MacBook Pro a 256GB SSD.Hint to Lenovo: Offer a SATA III SSD option for the W530 and send a unit so configured to the reviewers.

Answer:Lenovo ThinkPad W530 User Review (notebookreview.com):

The Dell was using the mSata port (SATA-II) speeds and the CrystalMark scores basically indicated that as well. Nice to see that the Samsung PM810 (was it a PM830? ) was in the system as the OS drive. I've received simliar scores using the Crucial M4 mSata 256GB SSD which performs similar to the Samsung 830 SSD The MacBookPro was using the Samsung 830 256GB SSD so no surprises there. The W530 does offer several Intel SSDs that are SATA-III compliant, but not at the same capacity as the Samsung 256gb or 512gb SSDs

Hi - the current version of the ideapad 710s BIOS does not allow changing of the SATA/drive mode from RAID to AHCI. As a result, it is pretty much impossible to install Linux onto these systems. I've tried multiple combinations of things - completely wiped the drive, disabled UEFI, Secure Boot and enabled Legacy mode, etc - and nothing works.  The currently locked SATA mode basically prevents Linux from even seeing the SSD.  I've tried the latest versions of Ubuntu and Gentoo - both with the same result. Is there any reason why this setting is not exposed?  Are there any plans to expose it?

Less than a month ago I bought a brand new Lenovo Ideapad 710s, today it suddenly turned off even though it's battery was at 64%. I then plugged in the charger and tried turning it on - nothing happened. Then I held down the power button at it turned on. Only to turn off again after about 15 minutes. Now, it won't turn on at all.If I hold down the power button, the light behind the keyboard blinks, but the screen stays black. When I plug in the charger, the light that shows it is charging is on, so the charger is working.I just can't turn on my computer at all. I don't know if this information is needed, but I have used it almost every day, around 6 hours every day I've used it (I'm using it for school only). The only things installed on the computer was Office 365 and a driver so that I could use my printer.Any idea how to get it working again?

All I wanted was a leather case that let me use my laptop while it was still in the case. Unfortunately, there arent any good cases out for such a new laptop, so I had to resort to getting cases for the Macbook Pro, which is slightly under 13 inches wide (lenovo yoga 13 is slightly over 13 inches). I got 4 from Amazon, pictures are below: 1. SmackTom is the only one that fit, that I tried anyways. The only downside is that the case is slightly too large (when you open it up all the way, the straps sometimes come off). (PICTURES OF SMACKTOM) 2.GMYLE  / CaseCrown didn't fit, even when I tried forcing it in (probably not good for the laptop). An alternative is to cut open the sides of the bottom part so theres room for the laptop, but you risk messing up the case. (PICTURES OF GMYLE, I returned the Casecrown before I could take pictures) 3.Vangoddy Sleeve- looked promising, sold by 3rd party seller Vangoddy (I'm not sure what brand the sleeve is). Unfortunately, it does not open up all the way, even though the pictures on Amazon showed it as being completely open. (PICTURES OF VANGODDY) I posted my reviews on amazon as well, in case you want to try the cases for yourself. I got full refunds on all of them, except the SmackTom one, which I kept. The SmackTom case, unfortunately, isnt perfect, so hopefully a carrying case specifically designed for the Lenovo Yoga 13 comes out.

Yesterday I bought a new Lenovo ideapad 710s and already I'm experiencing difficulties with the touchpad. It occasionally just gets stuck for a few seconds, which is very frustrating, and also the touchpad scrolling doesn't work, even though I have enabled it in the mouse settings. I've also made sure the drivers are up to date, and the problems are still there. Does anyone know how to deal with these problems?

Hello lenovo community.

I just got my new Lenovo Ideapad 710s-13sk yesterday.

I've used it for 2 days now, and it seems that the 2 finger scroll up and down triggers the 3 finger function from time to time?

So when i want to scroll, sometimes the task view shows up or everything minimizes depending on what direction i scroll of course.

Have anybody else experienced this and found a solution for it?

Best Regards,
Christian

Hello there!I'm planing to buy a new notebook, and found the 710s-13ISK (80SW003NGE) interesting. There are 5 different configurations of it, with different CPUs and memory amount. The cheapest one is the only one i could afford, and it has the weakest CPU i3-6100U, which is no issue at all, but this one has only 4GB of DDR3L. I'd still like to buy this one, but only if I'm able to upgrade the memory some day to 8GB, in case the 4GB are not enough for my usage scenarios. Unfortunately i cannot find any specific information, whether the mainboard has a RAM slot (so the 4GB could be replaced by bigger 8GB), or the memory is soldered directly on the mainboard (means not replaceable). Does anyone have this particular notebook, and could give me some information about this one? Many, many thanks in advance!

I bought ideapad 710S after research and survey, but the performance of 710s is really disappointing. The computer has strange problem and unstable performance. After my first week, I sent it to the maintanence center. Lenovo maintenance center was nice enough to change the mainboard for me. However, after 3 weeks of using, the problems reoccured again. the computer has slow processing capability.  I use simple word program and my typing does not show on the screen simultanously, instead there is the waiting cycle icon keeps apperaing. Plus, there seem to be extreme heat release problem with lound fan noise. I returned to the maintenance center and after that 3 weeks, the shop replaced ROM and heat fan.
When I got home, I started working on the document and recognize heat problem is gone. However, the delay processing problem remains. I have a problem getting my work done with this 710S because everything delays. By everything I mean my typed sentence delays by more than 10 seconds, my access to internet website consumes more than 30 seconds, program opening takes almost 1 minute. I feel disappointed, frustrated and mad with the quality of ideapad. I was a fan of thinkpad and this wiped off and torn down my believe of lenovo brand.

Hi My 710s' fan has started making more noise lately. I've checked, and there's nothing caught in the fan. The temps are also fine. I think it's just running on dry bearings, which causes it to make more noise. Is there any way to oil the fan?

I am trying to run games on my 710s with the i5 6260U and Intel Iris 540 graphics, with 8GB RAM and a 256GB SSD.The nature of the video card in this laptop showed promise for casual playing of current titles at low settings, however early results were dissapointing. Upon installing Throttlestop and Intel XTU in order to undervolt the package and squeeze more performance, my surprise was high upon finding that the package consumed no more than 10W at very low temperatures with the fan barely spinning, all while running Doom 2016 at 720P Low settings at 20FPS.Changing power use settings in the Intel Graphics control panel and in the Windows power use utility raised the FPS to 30 and the power use to around 13-14W, but the temperatures barely reach 60ºC and the fans aren't even spinning at full blast, and actually turn on and off all the time while running the game. Eventually the power consumption stabilizes at 13W, and Throttlestop states that it's due to a TDP limit. Is there a way of increasing this limit in order to attain the full performance of the laptop?

I live in Toronto, Canada. I bought Lenovo Ideapad 710S (i5-6200 128GB SSD 8GB Ram) in August 2016. Used only 2 weeks, the laptop couldn't recognized the hard drive. It was sent to MIAD (local Lenovo certified repair center) and diagnosed as hard drive dysfunction. The technician told me since it is a "consumer" laptop (vs. business laptop such as ThinkPad), they don't have the part to repair/replace. I waited 4 weeks until the new hard drive arrive and the laptop was still not working. MIAD told me it was not hard drive problem and beyond their ability to repair. The laptop was later sent to Lenovo repair center (US).A week later I got a notice from Lenovo said the laptop had arrived but the part they need is in back order.5 weeks later still no sign of getting the problem fixed. Contacted Lenovo and get the same answer. Only compensate so far is extension of my warranty for 2 months. However, no compensation about the usability. For about 10 weeks, I have to use my old Pentium M Thinkpad. If I bought a new laptop, it might already arrived! Conclusion: Don't buy Lenovo "consumer" laptop (Ideapad, Yoga etc), at least in Canada.

Randomly I got the Blue Screen of Death error DPC_WATCHDOG_VIOLATION and apparently this issue occurs because the iastor.sys driver, is not compatible with Windows 10. So I changed the storage controller from Intel Rapid Storage sata controller to Intel mobile express chipset sata controller which was the other driver already on my 3 week old laptop. However, after this the laptop would not boot! It just kept saying 'automatically attempting repairs'. I then went into the BIOS and changed the SATA from RAID to AHCI and then the laptop would boot. But now the driver is just 'Standard NVM Express Controller'. I tried to reinstall the intel rapid stroage sata controller driver but then the laptop would not boot in RAID or AHCI! So I had to do a system restore and now the laptop seems to be working on AHCI and it has a boot loop on RAID.  My question is, should I put the laptop back on RAID (original factory setting) and after the boot loop should I reset the laptop to install a fresh copy of Win10 from recovery? Or should I leave it as it is now on AHCI with Microsoft Standard NVM Express Controller driver? Are there any disadvantages? My SSD is a Samsung PM961 (samsung mzvlw512hmjp) I need some help quickly before my 30 days returns period runs out. I really like the laptop but are there any problems with it?

Got my laptop after almost 2 weeks of placing the order. Although the wait was worth it, just after third day I found a crack on the hinge. I was extremely cautious in handling the laptop, mind you, and i believe this weather was present since day 1. I know the crack is really small, but i'm afraid of the integrity of the hinge itself. Not sure if I could claim a return or exchange. http://goo.gl/6dsidu

Hi,  My Ideapad 710s which is only like 8 months old is currently with Lenovo for a warranty repair.  The comma key became loose and fell off the keyboard, the little clips on the back were broken so I was wasn't able to clip it back on.  I sent it to Lenovo under my 3 year warranty and now they are refusing to fix it under the warranty.  What can I do about this?  Why would anyone break their comma key on purpose? The rest of the laptop is in perfect condition so it is clear that I have not abused the laptop, every other key is absolutely fine.  Seeing that it was simply a matter of clipping a new key on, I asked Lenovo to just post me one out and I would do it myself. They refused, and made me send it in. I did this, and now they are going to try and charge me for the postage which I didn't want to pay for anyway because the repair was so minor!!!  This will be the last Lenovo product I ever buy if they are so petty and treat their customers so badly over such a small repair that any reasonable person can see is a manufacturing fault.  I am furious about this, and hopefully you guys can give some advice.  Thanks

Hi there!  I purchased a Ideapad 710s about 9 months ago. I haven't used the USB ports very much in this time (maybe once a fortnight max). I tried to copy some photos from my phone last week and it wouldn't recognise it, previously it did. I got another phone and tried to send some files to it and the connection would continue to drop out (could tell because of the volume being on).  I thought it was my phone wire or the phone, but it worked perfectly fine with another Lenovo laptop I have.  How can I fix this?  Another problem: My touch pad has been acting up recently too, been very hard to use the gestures - 4 finger swipe down and to the side.  Thanks so much!

Hello Xia0yi1990Thanks for using the Lenovo forums.Try to download the Fingerprint and Chipset drivers for the unit from the support page.

Make sure to reboot after an update on the unit. Also, try a static discharge for this, it may help to resolve the issue or at least get rid of any built up static on the motherboard.(If the battery is internal, please just skip the remove/replace battery steps.)1. Turn the unit off2. Remove the battery and the Mains adapter3. Press and hold the front power button for 30 seconds4. Replace the battery and the Mains adapter5. Turn the unit on as normal
Hope this helps, let us know how you get on.==================================================================================Did someone help you today? Thank them with a Kudo! If you find a post helpful and it answers your question, please mark it as an "Accepted Solution"!

Hello there! I bought the Ideapad 710s recently but i'm experiencing a serious WiFi issue. After cold start the wireless network adapter cannot be recognised. There isn't even an entry in the device manager pointing to an unknown device or a missing driver. It is absolutely not possible to allow it. Restart doesn't help either. After many restarts and attempts to switch th adapter on, I've succeded, and from that moment on, it stays active with no further issue. Countless resarts later it's still on and the function is okay. The problem is, that on the next day (i think that means, when the notebook is cold) the issues appears again. There is no network adapter, and it appears much later. What i've tried by now: 1. Did a full Windows update2. Reinstalled every single driver from the Lenovo support center3. Turned every single energy saving feature off4. Did a BIOS update5. Did a full system recovery (and repeated the steps 1, 2 and 3)6 Made a clean Windows 10 installation (and repeated the steps 1, 2 and 3) After each and every of the steps mentioned above, the issue appeared after cold start on the next day and disappeared after about an hour of being turned on. The wireless adapter is UEFI ENABLED all the time. Well after two weeks and countless attempts to solve the problem i have no idea, what more could i possibly do. Does someone experienced such issue, and if yes, what was the solution for it. Best regards and happy new year!

I am having difficulty removing the back panel. The hardware guide says "Remove rubber. Remove screws". There are 9 visible screws. The hardware guide shows 13. Some of the screws might be under the rubber. However, it provides no way to remove the rubber. It appears to be glued on so removing it will break the back panel. Has anyone removed the backpanel of their 710s? If so, did you need to remove the rubber and if you did can you provide hints on how to do it without breaking it?

Answer:Ideapad 710s - How to remove back panel?

Welcome to the Lenovo Community !

Please check out the link below for the Lenovo Training Video for the 710s model.  What is shown in the video regarding the back cover removal is different than what the Hardware Maintenance Manual shows.  I believe the problem you are having is releasing the plastic clips that hold the cover in place after the screws are removed.    Here is that video course for your reference.....

Hi all, I am thinking about buying the Ideapad 710s with the i7 7500 processor. I was just wondering if anyone else was having similar issues? The laptop does wake up after going to sleep but it is noticeably slower than a fresh start up. If I lift the lid after its been put to sleep the keyboard lights up but nothing seems to happen for around 20 seconds and then the lock screen appears. Is this normal? TheDickieBoy

Just received my new notebook and am extremely happy with it, execept for the battery indicator. The effective charge reamining, fluctuates by a wide margin, suddenly jumping from 4 hours remaining - to 3 hours - to 6 hours in a matter of minutes! The PC was left in idle state with no processing happening whatsoever. at 100% charge it shows 5 hours 6 mts of remaining time, as the charge drops to 97% after 5 mins of idle, the remaining time changes to 2 hrs 34 mins and at 94% charge after another 5 mins, it shows 7 hr 20 mins of remianing time! I called Lenovo service and after one hour of trying this and and that, they offered to replace the PC with a comment that battery takes 1 week to settle down and stabilise! I find that a bit out of the ordinary. My config is 710S, i5, 8GB RAM, 256GB SSD, Windows 10, with Lenovo optimiser loaded. (The battery gauge reset, suggested by service is missing in this version - the service staff themselves could not find it).  Is anyone else having similar issues?

Hi before describing the problem I will give some details about the Laptop and the OS used. -Ideapad 710s bought in August 2016 -Windows 10 Home China preinstalled-Clean Install of Windows 10 Home Multilanguage about 2 months ago(UEFI install with 3 partitions, C, EFI partition, Recovery partition) [So this laptop is used by a friend of mine who I helped reinstalling the OS to get rid of malware. When reinstalling I faced the usual issue of a not detected HDD due to lack of drivers, which I had to download to a USB stick and had to load during installation.] About a month ago my friend started the laptop and got stuck in this screen: Upon pressing Enter the same screen will come back up afer a short black screen. I entered the BIOS menu (or whatever you call it) and found that there is no HDD listed in the boot options:  I changed all possible settings in that menu but nothing helped to normally boot again. I created an Ubuntu Live USB stick plugged it in, restarted and...the laptop booted normally to Windows like nothing had happened. I checked the boot menu again and the inbuilt HDD was listed in the boot options. My only guess some time later was that it must be a hardware problem since it appeared so randomly, and having a USB stick plugged lead to the HDD being recognised again (so is my assumption). Now, the same screen appeared again some time later and after waiting for a while my friend was able to reboot the lapto... I like my ideapad 710S-13isk except that I hate the Elan touchpad which really damages the whole experience. I am hoping it's a configuration issue--it is certainly a software rather than hardware problem, but I have not been able to find a way around it. Three (software) issues: 1) there appears to be no way to configure the ENTIRE touchpad to respond as a one-finger-left-click, two-fingers-right-click touchpad.  The software breaks up the touchpad into three different sections, and that is that.  So two fingers on the central area will right-click, or two fingers in the lower left corner will right-click, for example, but one finger in the lower right corner and one finger in the middle-right will NOT right-click.  This is a huge pain unless one makes a point of only using the top portion of the touchpad, which is ridiculous. 2) I am used to being able to select an item with one finger, and then stroke with another finger to move the item in preparation for dropping it. My other computers have worked that way.  This touchpad does not.  UPDATE:  this seems to be working now after updating to the latest drivers. 3) Tapping to click only works with one finger.  It'd be nice if it worked with two.  That is more complicated for the software since fingers never tap truly simultaneously, but other devices can figure it out. If anyone can help me with settings to correct these issues, I would be grateful. &n... It comes with a Samung pm961 ssd that uses pcie. I tried to install an Adata su800 m.2 sata but the laptop can't seem to identify the drive. I already upgraded to the lastest 2.52 bios and see there is a option for ahci sata. So I'm a bit confused and wondering if this model actually supports m.2 sata drive. If not what does the sata option in bios do?

Easy Camera in my new Lenovo Ideapad Laptop is not working. I noticed this when I wanted to use Skype and also the "Camera" application. When this application is started, the 0xA00F4271(0x8070001) error code is shown. After spending a lot of time (trying various solutions from web, downloading and re-installing the driver, etc.), the camera started to work for one day and on the next day, the same story. What to do?

Hi, I've got a brand new ideapad 710s and I have some problems with the two finger scrolling feature of the synaptics touchpad. Basically, it works. So when I move my two fingers up on the touchpad the window scrolls down and vice versa. However, when I move up my fingers rather slowly, the window scrolls up (and not down). When I reach a certain speed with my two fingers while moving them up, the window begins to scroll down again. This is quite annoying. Especially when I view PDFs with the Adobe Acrobat Reader the pages begin to jump etc. I don't know if this is a known issue with the touchpad or if it's just my notebook.Would be great to get some advice! Thanks

As stated in the subject, when I got my new laptop and went through all the updates and finally returned to it, it had caused my fingerprint sensor to no longer work. When inspected through Device Manager, it throws Error Code 31: it states that the driver is up-to-date but Windows has failed to load the driver properly. With either restarting, removing and updating drivers, or reinstalling windows, I have failed to develop a manner of fixing this. Any help would be lovely. Thanks in advance!

Hi, I've read about some issue with yoga 710 fan noise that was recently fixed with a BIOS update. Is there an update for ideapad 710s-13IKB on the way? The unofficial third-party fan controller software doesn't work, perhaps because this laptop has two fans. Just installing some software for example causes the i5-7200u CPU to overclock to over 3GHz  which seems unnecessary. Limiting the CPU max clock to 70% from power management settings helps but is an ugly fix because it's a constant limit. When the temperature is +40C the left side fan stays on.... +39 and below the fan seems to shut down, but doesn't happen unless I let the computer idle for a long time. The fan control seems to jump every 10 degrees. +70C and above is the highest level. Because of the over-eager turbo clock the laptop can reach +70C very quickly and go into full fan power when doing low-intensity tasks. It does this every time I power on, and it takes a minute to lower the clock and fans down to reasonable levels. I noticed the fan issue straight away when I installed the W10 anniversary update. CPU/fan issue could be linked to high hard drive activity also. Also, the Lenovo Battery Gauge doesn't appear no matter how many times I try to enable it. It just doesn't want to show up on the task bar. Is it a seperate issue or are these two related?
