Preferred Solution: Kaspersky AV Free after Rebate

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Question: Free after rebate?

I was looking at these fans for my girl friends computer, Newegg.com - XIGMATEK Cooling System XLF XLF-F2003 200mm LED Orange Case Fan PSU Molex Adapter/extender included, and it's $20 but says $0.00 after rebate. Are these fans essentially free?

Answer:Free after rebate?

I would download and check the rebate form (see if you have to recieve it by the 30th) but it is through Newegg so it should work unless the company goes bankrupt or something (even then they might be forced to honor it). When I did my build I got both of my mail-in rebate cards.

EDIT: In the reviews some people are complaining that it is taking a while for the rebate or it is not coming at all so I guess it is up to you. If you were going to get a fan anyways you might as well go with this one and at least try to get the rebate.

Does anyone know of any good sites out there which offers free software (or almost free) and even hardware after sending in a mail in rebate? I used to patronize CyberRebates, but they went down under like so many other dot coms.

I know that CompUSA often offers free software, CD-Rs, and even hardware after a rebate. I bought a digital camera from them for only $10 after the rebate. Many times CD-ROMs for free. But they don't do this all the time.

I was wondering if there's any good & reputable web sites which has such connections to utilize these rebates.

Answer:Free software after rebate?

Hiya

have a look at this place:

It has a few sites to check out.

hi gents
i want to know the difference between kaspersky antivirus and kaspersky free . and what about this combo(KFA+ZAM premium+APPcheck free)+Malwarebyte antimalware on demand scanner . is KAV has antiphsing protection ??

Answer:Difference between Kaspersky Free and Kaspersky Antivirus

the only difference between KAV and KAF is that KAV has system watcher = behavior blocker. system watcher is one of the most powerful weapons of kaspersky that's why they charge you for that
they both have phishing protection

your combo looks OK to me. I can recommend that
but I don't agree with Malwarebytes because it seems redundant to me. zemana as the second opinion scanner is sufficient enough. It's realtime protection is different from its on-demand scanner. You will get better result with on-demand scanning than the realtime protection

My Kaspersky AV ran out of subscription so I decided to try AVG 7.5 free.
The one thing I noticed when using AVG for scanning "My Computer" scanned maybe half the number of files?? If not less...compared to KAS!! Could not find an option on AVG to add additional stuff to scan.

I was and am still using COMODO BO Clean & SpywareBlaster and Windows Firewall All updated to latest versions. Please let me know if this is a decent setup.

I'd like to know if the Lappy would be MORE secure if I shift to the latest KAS Internet security Package as opposed to hanging on to AVG free. .

Thanks very much for any advice.

Answer:Kaspersky Vs AVG Free

>> I'd like to know if the Lappy would be MORE secure if I shift to the latest KAS Internet security Package as opposed to hanging on to AVG free. Thanks very much for any advice. sikvik <<

I'd stay with AVG Free if I were you. I've used it since 2004 and I've never had a virus get through the AVG defenses on any of my 3 computers. It has caught a few things (while I was online) and "healed" them before any damage was done; but nothing has gotten through as yet. Additionally, just to be on the safe side; once a month I also use an "online virus check" called BitDefender Online Scanner - Free Online Virus Scan

Please Note: AVG 7.5 Free is out of date. Use AVG AntiVirus Free Edition 8.0 instead.

>> I was and am still using COMODO BO Clean & SpywareBlaster and Windows Firewall All updated to latest versions. Please let me know if this is a decent setup. <<

Sounds Good - but I'd add a software firewall if you do not already have one. Windows Firewall alone is very limited IMO.

Good Luck!

Question: FREE Kaspersky

Get Kaspersky Anti-Virus 2016 for free

Answer:FREE Kaspersky

After $35 rebate... and you still have to foot the shipping.

So, assuming the rebate actually comes through in 2-2.5 months, then it is $3.

And why would you ever want to have software shipped to you when you can get a digital download?

As much as I've used and advocated for certain free AVs over the years, I could not help but notice that one paid AV suite consistently dominated numerous protection tests, namely Kaspersky Internet Security. The protection scores of KIS were not usually significantly higher than the free AVs, but they were consistently higher. It has achieved the highest award (Advanced +) from AV-Comparatives in every Real-World Protection test since 2009, unmatched by any other AV product, paid or free.
So when Kaspersky recently released a free version of its AV, I had to take it for a spin. I downloaded the latest Kaspersky Free (KF) version [18.0.0.405(b)] from: usa.kaspersky.com/free-antivirus
Requirements
OS: Windows XP or higherNon-commercial use onlyFull system requirements: usa.kaspersky.com/free-antivirus
Test Platform:
Dell Latitude E5410 notebook running Windows 7 Professional/sp1 64-bit, and IE 11 (without add-ons). Intel Core i5 @2.40 GHz, 4 GB RAM, SATA HDD: 160 GB. Real-time protection was Windows software firewall, WinPatrol PLUS and Malwarebytes 3 Premium. All Microsoft and 3rd party  programs/patches were up-to-date.
Results
Download and Installation:
Both processes (154 MB installer) went quickly and smoothly, taking about 5 minutes. The only decisions one needs to make during installation are to select a language, whether to enable the Kaspersky Security Network (KSN)- basically to send anonymized data back to Kaspersky, and whether to enable Kaspersky Secure C... "Kaspersky has finally launched its free antivirus software after a year-and-a-half of testing it in select regions. While the software was only available in Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, China and in Nordic countries during its trial run, Kaspersky is releasing it worldwide. The free antivirus doesn't have VPN, Parental Controls and Online Payment Protection its paid counterpart offers, but it has all the essential features you need to protect your PC. It can scan files and emails, protect your PC while you use the web and quarantine malware that infects your system."

Kaspersky's paid AV has dominated in protection tests of security products by independent organisations for some years now. Now that it offers a free version, it looks like I will have to give it a test run.

With respect to the Free Antivirus of the Year 2017 competition, we've a thread series where users of the various products will be joining together to state the Pro's and Con's of each antivirus software and why they think it was a contender or not for the Free Antivirus of the Year 2017.

In this thread we'll talk about the Pro's and Con's you have found about Kaspersky Free Antivirus. It achieved the Second Spot in the Poll conducted recently.

The first post will be updated by me [or the mods] with what user's think is good and bad about the product, so an informed decision can be made for newcomers.

Hello,

I'm really like kaspersky products, but sometimes get me angry
So what you ask:

Pro:
- Light on system (yes in fact it is)
- Good signatures
- Really good Cloud
- Good virus removal ability
- Good web protect

Cons:
- No behavior block (but has heuristic)
- Ads sometimes
- Good alternative for Windows Defender but not paid or other free AV.
- Protection is good enough just for advanced users only i think.

Hi I got "Kaspersky 30 day free trial" and all was fine until the licence ran out. I uninstalled it (or tried to anyway) but the uninstall failed 3 quarter way through! Theres a file in C/programs called Kasperskylab and I cant rename/remove or delete it.
The main problem was I got Avast antivirus but it wouldnt install fully due to Software conflicts or something (I cant recall exactly the phrase) then my pc froze and kept freezing on startup until I used safe mode and removed Avast.
Obviously I cant install a new antivirus until I lose Kasperskylab but as I say I cant delete or rename it etc, any ideas how I get rid?

Thanx in advance

It is the same antivirus engine as their paid product, and supposed to be light on resources.

AOL and Kaspersky have got together and re-leased a 'FREE' version of Kaspersky...(No you dont need to be an AOL customer)
This is basically Kaspersky slimmed down and re-skinned but offers the same excellent detection engine as Kaspersky
Protects against Viruses, Worms, Trojans, Spyware, Adware, Jokes, Hacktools etc

This has to beat AVG as the 'Best Free Anti-Virus Program' Available
to get license key you have to register with email address, I may suggest using a 2nd free email address as the EULA specifys that you may get SPAM from AOL and other companys so using a 2nd email address (just for these sort of pruposes) will avoid your usual email address from being bombarded with SPAM

Kaspersky is one of the best detection engines on the market and has won awards for its detection rate, namely the 'VB 100%' Award which means it can detect 100% of the Viruses in the Viruslist.com

WHAT'S NEW IN KASPERSKY FREE

Kaspersky Free provides the following new features:
There is now protection against infection while the operating system is being restarted.
Added notification from Web Anti-Virus regarding pages containing adware or legitimate software that can be used by criminals to damage your computer or personal data.
Improved speed for certain installation scenarios, the first startup, and the first update of the application.
The application now waits a longer amount of time before displaying a notification about outdated databases and application modules when the computer wakes from sleep mode.

MAIN KNOWN ISSUES
If the "Always scan encrypted connections" check box is selected, the application will scan encrypted connections even if you have paused protection.
If the application was installed in Windows 7 and you upgraded the operating system to Windows 10 but now want to revert back to Windows 7, you are advised to uninstall the application and install it again after reverting back to Windows 7.
On certain websites, the application may block the download of additional pages in pop-up windows or frames. To resolve this issue, clear the "Inject script into web traffic to interact with web pages" check box in the network settings of the application.
If interactive protection is disabled, tasks for processing threats on your computer from the My Kaspersky portal might not be performed.

(In order to enlarge the screen shot below to make it legible ,I had to disable my pop up blocker)I removed Norton Security 2006 from my computer over a month ago. It looks as if these items are in quarantine somewhere in my computer. After the scan I re-started my computer in safe mode and ran a scans with SpyBot S&D, Ad-Aware SE, AVG Anti-Spyware 7.5 Free and SUPERAntiSpyware. The combined results were three tracking cookies.I then re-started in normal mode and ran a scan with Windows Live Care and Housecall, they came up clean. Are these items harmless ? I ask that because it seems to show they are quarantined. Starting earlier today, Kaspersky Free on a few (but not all ) machines started triggering a high threat level IPS event.

False positive? Either way this level of triggering of security can cause me some issues. Strange that it is not triggering on all machines, just a few. Perhaps some aren't updated yet or something.

Inbound to WAN1 from 37.48.82.67. Machine OUTBOUND to dnl-16.geo.kaspersky.com

It seems to have subsided a bit. But I am concerned because Fortinet IPS is not known to issue false positives for Medium/High/Extreme events. Any false positive prone events are under 'Info' category which most people leave off.

So I've been trying to install kaspersky free for the past few hours but to no avail.

The installer runs fine but during the downloading phase of it, it downloads normally for 51.8mb out of the 156.6mb then starts to "download" very fast all the way to 156.6 mb, after that the installer states that the installer is corrupted and the only fix that I can find online is download the installer and try again. But I've done that at least 5 times already but I keep running into the same issue

I've also deleted the previous installers before trying again, cleared cache using ccleaner, manually searched for my remnants and deleted them before trying again. I've also manually disabled windows defender before the install. But all the while I still come back to the same issue.

Has any faced this issue before? Any other fixes you think I should try?

I forgot to take a screenshot of it but it seems that other people are facing it too, here is a screenshot from the kaspersky forums that matches what I see as well

Kaspersky earlier this year released a free edition of its antivirus software. its very basic and only offers anti-malware protectioh. Officially its only available for users in the Ukraine, Russia and Belarus at this moment, however the downloads of this product are not geo restricted. but you will need to use a VPN and obtain a russian IP address for activation.

Interface is only in russian and Ukrainian. An English version is apparently going to be released next year.

Suppose your budget is tight and you don't want to buy an AV. Would it be a good idea to go ahead and get Kaspersky 2013, which did extremely well in recent testing?

Has anybody run Kaspersky together with another AV like avast!? I know the saying absolutely only one AV. But some AVs are made to be compatible, like Emsisoft, Webroot, Coranti, Baidu, ClamWin / Clam Sentinel, and others. I have read that some people successfully run avast! and Panda together.

I might just get Kaspersky 2013 and keep avast! as an on-demand scanner if I can do that.

Gday.

I have kaspersky internet security but my license has ran out. Im just wondering if I should purchase another license or if their are free programs that are better? Or is kaspersky better than all free programs?
Thanks.

Answer:kaspersky internet security VS Sas, AVira free.

Whether one antivirus is better than another is more a matter of opinion than fact. It all depends on what criteria you use for the comparison.

Having said that, I think the free antivirus solutions available are more than adequate. I personally use the freeware Comodo antivirus/firewall combination. Why pay for something when you can get it for free!

Remember though, all the protection in the world won't stop you from getting infected if you're not careful about how you use your computer.

Recently I surprisingly found out that Kaspersky announces a free version with limited functionality, and it is in Chinese only(correct me if I was wrong), and if the product is activated outside mainland China it prompts an error, but this can be solved by using a proxy server (good luck guys tryin' to read those characters), the link is here:

??????? Kaspersky Free

There are several commons and differences to Kaspersky Antivirus:
-Pros:
1. You will get full and newest signature update(unlike 360 using Avira and Bitdefender engine it uses the signature released 9 DAYS AGO) and you are connected to KSN so nice cloud protection;
2. Four components are fully usable: File Antivirus, Web Antivirus, IM Antivirus and Mail Antivirus;
3. Very decent protection against known and recent (about and more than 1 week) threats;
4. Very light weight as the only resource consuming component is File Antivirus;
5. The main application is as well up to date(2017) and will automatically be updated.
-Cons:
1. lol I cannot read Chinese (jokes) but yeh this is not very good
2. No technical support;
3. No application control so computer data is vulnerable to new ransomware;
4. No system watcher, system is vulnerable against zero day threat;
5. No Internet Security feature (firewall and network attack blocker) so system is vulnerable against port scans, DoS attack and intrusion activities.

It works like that, when you install it you will have to activate it manually to get a 36... Read more

The Get System Info utility (from Kaspersky)is used to collect system information in order to troubleshoot technical issues. It is used in a variety of ways:
* Detection of incompatible software
* Detection of possible malware on the system (both known and unknown)
* Program function errors (installation, use, uninstall etc.)
The utility works in conjunction with the online parser, which takes all of the information in the log file created and parses this into easily readable tab form online. This functionality means that users with limited computer experience can trouble shoot an issue on their own. Download Kaspersky GSI

So basically I only installed the behavior shield from the avast installation wizard. I was thinking having Kaspersky as my main AV along with avast's behavior blocker is a good set up. However, admittingly I am a novice, and I don't know if these two will clash. So far, everything seems to be going smoothly, but the WD notification icon is displaying that X and is saying I shouldn't have more than one AV installed. Thanks.

Answer:Using Kaspersky free with only Avast Behavior Shield installed.

I personally think it should work ok running these 2 programs if Avast is only enabled for behavior blocking.

I am using windows 10 on my HP desktop. I currently use MES but am unable to access certain games, puzzles on GameScene (ie) . I thought perhaps changing my antivirus would remedy this situation. is Kaspersky antivirus totally free for download on home computer?

Answer:Is Kaspersky antivirus totally free for my home computer?

Err.. MES, presumably you mean MSE but known as "Windows Defender" on Windows 10. If that is preventing access to games and puzzles then most likely there is something wrong with them. MS Windows Defender is usually quite docile. You didn't ought to be looking for an anti-virus that lets them through if they are dubious. As for Kaspersky, as far as I am aware they don't do a totally free version, only a free trial. There are free AV's around, such as Bitdefender, but as I said that doesn't sound like the right way to go for your game problems. What exactly happens when you try to access them and is there some reason you suspect Windows Defender is implicated?Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks

Just scanned w/ Kaspersky for the first time just for maintenance and it said it found 1 virus and 1 infected file. When I look at the report though, all I see are numerous skipped objects (mostly locked Symantec files) and one hp file that may or may not be marked as infected. The hp file is

hp\bin\killwind.exe

which is a legit HP utility that came w/ my HP computer. However, googling it turned up other folks who say McAffee sometimes falsely pegs this utility as a virus.

Could someone please look at my Kaspersky report and tell me if it looks like I actually have a virus that needs to be removed. Norton turns up nothing, and I'd prefer not to install the full Kaspersky program if I can avoid it, because I already own Norton and use Ad-Aware and Spyblaster too and that seems like enough.

I've attached the report.

Answer:confused by Kaspersky free online scanner results

There are no problems showing in your log. As you suspected the killwind.exe is just false indication. Many scanners detect this and a few other poorly named files from HP.

Here in Brazil the most used are Avast and Avg free, and honestly do not think the two are good because I got to use both and did not like.
The kaspersky would make a big deal bringing the free version for Brazil, it quickly dominate the market here, here ah many users of their paid versions, and certainly if it launched its free version in Portuguese would win quickly Avast and AVG free.
I hope they launch Kaspersky free to Brazil

Source: Kaspersky Cleaner is a free CCleaner-like program for Windows - gHacks Tech News
Kaspersky Cleaner is a new program by Russian security firm Kaspersky that has been released as a free beta version on the company's website.

The program has been designed to assist users in removing junk files and temporary files from PC systems running the Microsoft Windows operating system, and to improve their privacy on top of that.

You can download a web installer from the Kaspersky website which you need to run on a local device to install Kaspersky Cleaner on the computer.

Kaspersky Cleaner
The interface of the program is bare-bones currently. It displays a "start scan" button in the center of the program window, and four additional icons below it that don't reveal right away what they are used for.

You need to move the mouse cursor over the icons to reveal their function. They do the following from left to right:
System Cleanup - Clear Recycle Bin contents and temporary files.
Restore System Settings - Restore settings that affect operability of your operating system.
Private Browsing - Block collection and use of your personal data.
Remove Activity Traces - Clear cookies, history, logs.
If you hit Start Scan, all of the four tools will be used to scan the system. The software displays the issues it has detected after the short scan, and it is up to you to fix them automatically, or review them first.

You can do that with a click on one of the too... Read more

Hi Geeks. Hope you're all having a geeky day! Anyhow, I searched the boards here pretty thoroughly and couldn't find any Major Geek opinions of the Kaspersky Active Virus Shield now being offered free by AOL. I went to (another place) and read a bunch of ops, but was hoping for some 'critiques from the geeks.' (BTW I just coined that phrase.) I've read about licensing probs, and internet access probs after install, so I'm not gonna uninstall my AVG free just yet. Thanks in advance for any input.

Answer:Opinions on Kaspersky Active Virus Shield free

Kaspersky is a good program! I'm a little confused though! I thought AOL packaged McAfee as their antivirus program.

However, I would avoid anything that has been integrated into AOL's software. You would be better off having the real full package of software from the original creator.

Saw the news on Malwarebytes Forums (posted by sman), and decided that it was too good to not share.Kaspersky has been toying with a free version of its widely respected antivirus solution for a while now on the company's own Dev Builds server.Recently, the company released Kaspersky Free to the public. While not the first free product that Kaspersky has released, it is the first free full-blown antivirus solution the company has released. The main caveat at this time is that the product has only been released official in Russia and the Ukraine. While that is the case, downloads don't seem to be geo-restricted at this point in time. Please note though that the interface is mostly in Russian which is problematic if you don't speak the language considering that it is usually a good thing to understand what a security message means before reacting to it.Also, you may run into activation issues if you run the program in a region that is not Russia or Ukraine. If that is the case, features are limited until those issues are resolved (for instance by using a VPN).Source: http://www.ghacks.net/2016/01/14/kaspersky-free-antivirus-released/I expect big things from Kaspersky's free Antivirus to be honest. Can't wait for the English release. It's the second company now that releases a free version of their products (Sophos being the first).

Until today I?d still say screw (pardon me) the free Kaspersky Internet Security 2010 for attendees and hosts of !important]Windows!important]7 launch parties promotion. It has been annoyingly ?posted everywhere? and finally when the day comes, you need to enter the party host?s email address to receive the license. I knew it was too good to be true or impossible for Kaspersky to be that generous, that?s why I didn?t have a blog post on that. Well some lucky and smart people are able to imporatntGooglrfor the host?s email address but still Kaspersky deactivated a lot of codes that were obtained fraudulently. Even for those free 6 months KIS or KAV license from magazine promotions were also strictly being monitored and immediately terminated when they found out it has been leaked.

For a limited time (promotion ends 2 PM PST December 12, 2009), Gizmo's is giving away DefenseWall HIPS v2.56 (no updates or support provides) for free.

DefenseWall HIPS is a popular program known for its policy-based (as opposed to signature based) anti-malware approach; it creates a "trusted" and "untrusted" list of applications and reduces access for the applications on the untrusted list.

DefenseWall HIPS works very similarly to GesWall which I have discussed in my article on best free security software.

Being a "HIPS" program, DefenseWall HIPS should not be used as standalone security software; it is what I call a "sidekick". In other words, you should have other security software, such as anti-virus/anti-malware and firewall, installed on your computer. DefenseWall HIPS will play along fine with your other security software, as long as you are not running another HIPS program.

The only reservation about this promotion I have is the fact that no updates will be provided. While DefenseWall HIPS can fair well without updates because of the nature of how it works, I don't know about you, but I would never run a security software that will receive no updates. Malware writers are continually "updating" their malware to break the newest and best shiny toys you can protect your computer with. It makes no sense for someone to use a security software that won't receive updates

There are different types of malware such as viruses, Trojans, worms spreading over the internet, and these kind of threats can be easily used to penetrate your computer while you are busy reading your emails or buying some stuff online. Malware can be embedded in attachment or in the body of a message. Same for a website you are surfing. Another dangerous form of malware is rootkit. What is rootkit? It is a program that will grant unauthorized access to your PC, and all its malicious processes will be hidden from your computer. Here we have TDSSKiller - a rootkit removal tool by Kaspersky that allows removing rootkits.

Kaspersky Lab has released a beta version of its solution for the "smart" home and the Internet of Things - Kaspersky IoT Scanner. This free application for the Android platform scans the home Wi-Fi network, informing the user about the devices connected to it and their level of security.

As the Internet of Things continues to increase in popularity, cybercriminals are eagerly looking for ways to take advantage of this growing trend. Instead of making life easier for their owners, smart devices are increasingly becoming a weak link in their security.

According to analytical data from Gartner, over six billion IoT devices are currently being used worldwide, and many of them have already fallen victim to cybercriminals. For example, last year the world was shaken by the wave of DDoS attacks launched by the Mirai botnet. The Mirai bots used popular vulnerabilities in IoT devices to infect them and turn them into cybercriminal puppets. Kaspersky Lab has developed a solution to help reduce these risks. With the beta version, the company is encouraging IoT users to protect their smart homes, and share their experiences about the performance and usability of Kaspersky IoT Scanner.

Kaspersky IoT Scanner automatically identifies smart devices such as Wi-Fi routers, IP cameras, Smart TVs, Wi-Fi printers, NAS network storage devices, media servers and game consoles, as well as computers, tablets or smartphones, in the home network. The solution "memorizes"... Read more

There are a good number of other free offers, including ESET Smart security, AVG Internet Security, and Nero. They involve rebates.

I want to know from Kaspersky and BitDefender users :

1. How are these programs on false positives and over-aggressiveness with detection of so-called Potentially Unwanted Programs or Applications (PUPs and PUAs)? For me, avast! and Webroot have gone after way too many legitimate programs on my computer.

2. Do these programs allow user discretion before eliminating programs? I don't want them wiping good programs off my computer without allowing me the opportunity to whitelist them instead.

3. Do they tell you what they are doing or have done? One time I used the malware function of Glary Utilities. It got rid of something, but it never told me what it was. I have never again used the malware function on Glary Utilities.

KAspersky is not friendly for the average user and false positives. IMHO, and rating sites, BitDefender is one of the best.

Question: Plextor Rebate

Back in Nov. I purchased a Plextor PX 712 DVD drive. There was a $30 rebate so I got the rebate form and sent it off. Two days later I realized that I hadn't written in the SN. of the drive,so I made a copy of my copy of the rebate form, wrote in the SN , and wrote a short note explaining what happened. The first form had the UPC code attached and the second form only had a scanned copy. After about 8 weeks I received a post card saying that the form didn't have the UPC attached. Well of course there was no mention of the original form with the UPC code attached. I know that it was a mistake on my part ,but I feel they are playing dirty ,and taking advantage of the situation. So my friends be careful if you want your rebates.

Hi,  I earned a Rebate from CyberScholar towards $200.00 on a HP purchase. The Computer Rebate Form number is 587C065E11A4. I sent my Rebate with the correct address to mail the Rebate Check.  My address had a #34 unit number.  The Rebate team mailed my Rebate check on 7/18, and forgot to put the Street number on the check. I called and the person told me that they would send a new Rebate Check out 8/23, this does not appear in the CyberScholar area that you put in to track your rebate, while the first one did show. Today's date is 9/10/2016.  I do not think that they resent the Rebate check.  Thank you!

Okay okay...might be a misleading title since it's subjective, but I thought I'd share my experience. I saw that Staples was giving up to $400 in rebate for trading in an old piece of tech so I headed down to the store to check it out.
I have an old Dell notebook with an i7 processor that I don't use, which apparently nets me $400. I was content to get my Surface RT 32GB for $100 + tax, but when I talked to the guy at the register, he told me that there's another coupon I could apply for an additional $75 off! I said sure, and in the end, I paid $460, which after I get my $400 back, nets out to $60 :D
They reused a coupon code from a previous person's transaction, so I'm assuming the codes are reusable. I don't know how long the coupon is valid, but here's the coupon code they used: 16156. From what I understood, it sounded like it applies to lots of different things, so I think pretty much any Windows machine will do. Anyway, good luck!

Answer:Surface RT for $60 after rebate!

That's a good deal for sure. Perhaps add after rebate to the title so as not to be too misleading.

did anyone come across this program rebate informer. Its appearing in friends computer when she starts up.Its not in the start up programs and not in the program list.Any idea on how to remove it.Any help would be great thanks

Answer:rebate infromer??

Looks to me asi if its just another nuisance program which users install. If the typical uninstall via Add/Remove Programs doesn't do it...then I would suggest manually checking files and the registry for relate files.I would also disable suspected IE add-ons, regardless of origin.Related thread: http://www.techsupportforum.com/security-c...rmer-giant.htmlLouis

Question: Web rebate woes

Ok guys I know you must get this all the time but I am really my nitwits end.
I am not very savvy in computer lingo or details but I do know when something is wrong. Web Rebates will not get off my HP XP. I know this trojan has many names and hiding places and it is truely @[email protected] with my computer. My ghost surf insists it isnt a spy-ware.(what a joke that overpriced piece of software turned out to be) AVG doesn't have a clue. Ad-Aware and Spy bot don't seem to care much or just can't find it.

Now in terms simple enough for a slightly dingy housewife....would someone kindly read this Hijack this report and tell me what I should fix to blow this infuriating SOB out of the cyber ocean. Question: REBATE INFORMER

HOW DO I DELETE THIS PEST FROM MY PC. I DO NOT HAVE PERMISSION APPARENTLY.

Answer:REBATE INFORMER

First of all, please do not use capitals. It could be misunderstood as shouting.

How are you trying to remove the program, and from where? Is it available to uninstall from in Programs and Features? From typing msconfig in the start menu, opening that up, and going to the startup tab, does it show the program there?

I'm one of those suckers that bought Zone Alarm with a promise of a rebate and can't get the company to pony up the $$. They actually sent multiple emails confirming the rebate is coming/was sent, but nothing actually arrived. The company refuses to discuss rebate issues, saying they have outsourced that problem. However, the outsource company doesn't answer their phone lines.

I filed a complaint with the California Attorney General and BBB in Oakland. Zone Labs needs to stop ripping off their customers. I urge you to do the same if you've experienced the problem.

Of course, if I can't trust them to honor a contract, I probably can't trust their product either. Any recommendations for a new one? I switched from McAfee after it repeated refused to work post-renewal.

i just ordered 5 items from TD totaling over (a little over) $800 but there's rebates for four of these items

i need to know what's the best wqy to get a rebate from TD, since i've heard many people having trouble with this, and most of them don't even receive the rebates/receive them half a year later

Answer:Anyone experienced getting rebate from tigerdirect?

i dont have any experience with TD. but i have goten rebates from others. these are the typical steps...

-register your rebate online if posable
-keep copys of all materials submitted
-wait for the designated time to pass after the postmark date of the rebate. if you dont have your rebate by then..
-call or email the rebate department, requesting thy fix the error, if thy tell u that u need to resubmit the rebate, also ask them for the apropriat fax #, and who to address the fax to(if its not listed on there website).
-if thy tell you there is no fax # or thy dont provide it to your. call or email the retailer (aka TD) requesting the fax # from there affiliat that provided the rebate.
-resubmit the rebate, and also fax the rebate, and upload your copys to an image host and email them your rebate.(i said upload to imagehost, because most companies will not open attachments)(this way thy cant loose it) wait for the apropreate time to pass.
-if u still dont have the rebate, there are ways to file your complaint with various Bureau's that will put pressur on the company. theres a thread about this here
-if all else fails after recontacting the rebate department ina last ditch effort to have them fix there own problem. and tooo much time has past. The blame ultimately falls on the retailer(aka TD) contact TD requesting a frefund in the amound of the rebate. and either or after use the same methode in above link on TD.

I mailed my rebate form, receipt (that Office Depot printed for the rebate submission) along with the original UPC with serial number, bar code label from the box on June 3, 2016.  The laptop was purchased on May 27, 2016 (Memorial Day Weekend).I received an email on June 28, 2016 confirming my submission, please allow 8 to 10 weeks for processing.I checked the status today and get this message: "Your submission has been received. Unfortunately, there was an issue that prevented processing of your rebate. You will receive more information in the mail with further details and instructions". What possible "issue" could it be? Does this mean I'm not going to receive my rebate??Reading other posts, I'm not the only consumer whom this has happened to.

Answer:Rebate submission issue

Hi @C6-VetteGuy, I have brought your issue to the attention of an appropriate team within HP. They will likely request information from you in order to look up your case details or product serial number. Please look for a private message from an identified HP contact. Additionally, keep in mind not to publicly post serial numbers and case details. If you are unfamiliar with how the Forum's private message capability works, this post has instructions.

Hi All, I bought Lenovo L3000 Y410 Laptop through OfficeDepot. I got OfficeDepot reabate for $150 and cashed the check. I applied for $75 Lenevo rebate (entered into the system on 06-DEC-07) and received the approved email on 24-DEC-07. I left 8 messages to 1-800-830-0232 (it directly takes you to message box. No one really answers it) but no reply so far. It is more than 2 months that it was approved. Online rebate status shows this:ISSUED: Thank you for purchasing Lenovo! Your online entry was received and approved. Please allow 4-6 weeks from the Status Date for receipt of your rebate check.Status date is 24-DEC-07  Is Lenovo really sends the rebate checks? I never had any issues with any company regarding rebates. Worst case when I called them, they usually process the rebate. This is the first time in my life having this much pain for a rebate.Any body had issues the Lenovo rebates? Any suggestions???Thank you for your replyMessage Edited by AgoodUser on 03-01-2008 09:54 AM

Answer:Lenovo Rebate Issues

Agooduser,

I rather doubt that Lenovo directly processes the rebates, but I would be happy to look into the process and see what can be done to get this resolved for you.   Is this still an issue for you?

Can you send me a PM with your contact information?

Has anyone else had trouble getting rebates?   Knowing whether or not this is a broader concern is helpful.

Thanks! Message Edited by Mark_Lenovo on 03-12-2008 01:30 PM

Hi

I have had a virus installed on my computer called rebate giant. It has 2 files on my desktop (one called rebate informer and one called rebate giant). I know how to remove files through the registry editor and was wondering if anyone had the file paths for me to manually remove it??

Beth

Answer:Rebate informer/giant

I don't think rebate informer/rebate giant qualifies as a virus. It looks as though it installs an Inbox.com toolbar and some desktop shortcuts. Uninstall the applications, and the toolbar, and delete the shortcuts if they are left behind.

There are no files in the registry, but there are references to files. Be mindful of travels in the registry.

Had these three installed on the computer, along with viewpoint media player. The computer was pretty slow. I went through the steps on the read & run me first page.

RootRepeal froze my computer, and I had to hold down the power button on the tower to get it to shut down. I tried this many times with the same results. The other tools ran just fine. The logs are attached. Any help would be appreciated. The computer seems to be running ok now. It ocassionally freezes up, though. I decided to uninstall McAfee both through add/remove programs, and also using the removal tool found here afterward.

Again thanks in advance. I'm just trying to see if the malware is causing the freezing, or something else.

Thanks!

I bought this laptop from TigerDirect.ca on April 22 2008, it was advertised to have instant savings of $150 (i think it was that much) and a mail in rebate of $200 (that one i'm sure of). I got the rebate confirmation/initial approval email on May the 10. It said 4-6 weeks for receipt of my rebate check. It's now july the 28th, almost 8 weeks have passed. I went to the website rebatecenterca.com and entered my information and it says there are no records found. I haven't bothered to call the phone number they give because everyone says they don't answer. What should I do? I am a student going to University in September and only bought this laptop because it was on sale. I can't afford for this rebate not to come...
