Inspiron 3647 Small Desktop RAM Limit and Graphics Card Upgrade Limit

Question: Inspiron 3647 Small Desktop RAM Limit and Graphics Card Upgrade Limit

Hi everyone,

I have been thinking about upgrading my Inspiron 3647 Small Desktop's RAM and graphics card for a while now and I would like to ask if it can handle 16 GB of RAM (8GBx2) and for any suggestions for an upgrade from a GT 625 that would fit within its case. The computer has 2 DIMM slots so I wouldn't think that 16gb of ram should be a problem. It already has 4 GB pre-installed.

Thanks in advance.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Wondering if it's even possible.
Looking at  i3-7350K as an improvement on what I have, but it would seem dependent upon compatibility with motherboard.
Any thoughts?
Thank you.

Answer:Inspiron 3647, small dt, CPU Upgrade?

The CPU is upgradeable, but not to that one - you're limited to the fourth-generation Core CPUs (the 7350 is seventh-generation).
You can use an i3-4160 (or other i3-4xxx, i5-4xxx, etc.).

Ok, so, I have an Inspiron 3647 small desktop that I purchased a few months ago.
Of course, it's got that wacky shaped power supply, which I think is rated at 220W.  The CPU is a Pentium G3220.
Has anyone used a GT730 (or a more power-hungry video card) on this system?  Can it be done trouble free?
Here's the situation: At the moment, I have a Radeon 6450 in it, which doesn't stress the power supply at all, and it handles gaming at 720p reasonably well.
I was thinking of upgrading to a low-profile version of the Nvidia GeForce GT 730 - these are supposed to be known for very low power consumption relative to their capability.
The various sites I've seen it on, though, recommend a 300W power supply.  However, I'm given to understand that there's a tendency to over-state what's needed, for a safe margin of error.
Additionally, I came across this link which said you can upgrade to a GTX 750 in this PC - which I would have assumed would take MORE power than the GT 730., my question.  Can it be done SAFELY?  Give that it's a Pentium CPU rather than an i3, am I within the margin of safety with this card?

Answer:Inspiron 3647 Small Desktop - can it handle a GeForce GT 730?

I have a Inpiron 3647 small desktop and I was afraid about that too. Recently I installed on this a EVGA Geforce GT 730 on pci-e x16 and a Asus Xonar Soundcard on pci-e x1. Not satisfied I also have a SSD 120GB + Stock HD 1TB and 2 memory modules.
So... Power supply can handle this for sure.

someone told me that there is a limit on which graphics card ones motherboard can handle, something like uprading ram and how one can only upgrade to the specified amount or can one install any graphics card provided one has the psu, the right slot, and the right amount of ram

Answer:Limit on which graphics card one can use

Tis true. There are some deciding factors that will tell you what graphics cards you can use, mainly:

1. What type of slot your motherboard has for graphics. There are 3 types.

a) PCIb) AGP - there are a few different levels of AGP as wellc) PCI-express x16
The slot your board has determines which type of graphics card you can use.

2. Your power supply.
If you are upgrading from onboard graphics to a powerful new graphics card, chances are your old power supply is not going to like it and you will also need to upgrade your power supply. Luckily this is usually a fairly easy, cheap upgrade on most systems. Be forewarned though, especially if you are using an older Dell (for example) sometimes the power supplies are made specifically for that brand name, and it's connectors are different from the standard. If you are unsure, post your system make/model and someone here can help you determine what you will need.

I just moved, and want to get a large screen UHD TV. Right now, I'm using the 3647 on a 32" 1920X1080P tv as a monitor
I know the MB has a pci express x16 slot, but on the back panel there is no slot knock out to access the connectors.
Is there a video card available that would provide the UHD resolution via HDMI and fit/work in this case, MB and power supply?

Answer:Inspiron 3647 video card upgrade to connect 4k UHD TV?

1920 x 1080 = 1080P aka 2K
4K UHD is 4 times that resolution. So you are mixing terminology that does not apply. Your system CANNOT USE Cards that use over 75W nor can it take cards longer than 8 inches.  Aka 10 to 12 inch cards DO NOT and WILL NOT fit in the case.

WORSE the 3647 is VERY LOW PROFILE so there are no cards that fit. Its low profile SINGLE Slot.

Inspiron 3647 Owner's Manual

This is the ONLY card that I know fits.
This one Might fit if its not too thick

I had just found a upgradable 4mb 3d accelerator video card. Its a Creative Seriel #: ct6610. The year is 1997, I heard you can add laptop memory, is this true? If so, what would be limit for the amount of memory this card could hold.

Answer:How do you upgrade a ugradable video card and what is the memory limit.

You can upgrade it to 8MB.

Even though it uses SODIMM memory modules you cannot put your generic laptop RAM there. You need SGRAM - special memory used on video cards.

Hey all...

Does anyone know of some good free (or inexpensive) software that will install on top of WinXP and control/limit usage on the computer by certain accounts? I'm specifically looking for software that will allow a certain user account to stay logged in for a limited amount of time.

I'm building a PC for my aunt and one of the things she really wants is to have some sort of software that will actively enforce a time limit for each of her kids' computer usage.

Of primary concern is the time limit functionality, logging of sessions would be good too but not totally necessary. The software should be fairly bullet proof because kids are smart these days.

Any idears?

Answer:Software to limit kids usage of the family PC (time limit, etc)

I am not really sure, but i will help with some research, i know if you have a fairly decent router you can control times of the internet, but not sure on pc usage itself

Hi everyone,
I have a Dell Inspiron 3647 that came with Windows 8.1 (i think). Then when the made everyone upgrade to Windows 10, I upgraded to that. Now I have the Anniversary Windows 10.
Now I do not know if I stopped getting audio between 8.1 or and the old 10. But I have not had sound coming from my computer since 2015. I only get audio from headphones or a speaker I have to plug in.
Any suggestions, thx in advance

Answer:Inspiron 3647 Desktop

The tower itself doesn't have any built in speakers as far as I know, thus you have to have headphones or speakers plugged into the audio out ports.

Wife has a dell inspiron 8500 laptop. A couple years ago I upgraded it a bit (2Gb ram, 128mb video card module, 80Gb HD) and it runs Windows 7 fine. The 80gb is getting full so I picked up a 250 WD drive for it.

BIOS only shows it as 137Gb. Some searching finds that the chipset only supports 120Gb drives or smaller. Will partitioning it as a couple 120Gb drives allow it to work OK or should I just try to find a 120Gb?

Answer:Inspiron 8500 HDD size limit?

Nope, partitioning it into two 116Gb drives doesn't work. Just popped it into an external housing and backed up all her pics, movies, docs and music on it for now.
Have a Synology DS111 NAS coming next week anyway so I'll be able to pop a 2Tb drive in it and we can keep all her stuff on that and free up about 40Gb of space.

Hello,I have an Inspiron 3647 bought in 2014 and I would like to upgrade it.
Its default setup is (factory):
Core i3-4150 3.5 GHz1x 4 GB DDR3 SDRAM 800 MHz
Motherboard: 02YRK5 BIOS: A08
Searching Dell site, I found this pdf (HERE) that shows possible setups.
I was thinking of using these parts:
Core i7-4790 3.6 GHz2x 8 GB DDR3 SDRAM 1600 MHzMy question is: If I buy these parts will it work? I mean, is the computer factory locked with its default parts?
I'm already using a GTX 750 Ti and it works, but since there was no offboard GPU in it when I bought it, I didn't think it would be a problem.
Thanks in advance!

Answer:Inspiron 3647 Processor + RAM upgrade

Both the memory upgrade and the CPU upgrade will work -- though be sure you get the i7-4790, and NOT the i7-4790K CPU.  The K CPU won't work.

Answer:Best video card for Inspiron 3647?

fans are going to be part of life with a compact system like that ... there isn't a lot of open space so the fans have to get the hot air out to keep things from overheating ...
64 bit definitely matters for gaming ... if you can find a card that will work that has a 128 bit memory interface you will be a happier gamer.  64bit memory interfaces will choke 3D games
here is a Nvidia 730 that is a low profile single width card that comes with low profile brackets:
you also might want to wait and see if users Speedstep or Osprey answer your post ... they are wise in these matters.
It has been my experience that it is better to have a 128bit card with 1gb of RAM than a 64 bit card with 2 gb of RAM.

Answer:Video-Card - Dell Inspiron 3647

You're going to be severely limited by the slim size and low power draw required by the chassis and power supply - something like a low profile R7-240 is about as good as you're going to be able to do with this system.

I've had this Dell desktop for several years and never had issues with the DVD+RW drive until now. It will not read any CD-ROM files I burned on a previous Dell with Windows XP. I now have Windows 10. The only data discs it seems to recognize are ones such as drivers for my printer. These discs were photo back ups before I started using the cloud for storage. I was able to burn a disc with photo files on this desktop and it had no issues reading the files. I tried to use Dell Detect to test the drive but it keeps asking for a disc with more data space and I only have 700MB discs. Didn't know they came with larger storage...
Anyway, appreciate any help or direction. If it helps, here's the info on my drive and driver:

HiFirst time posting, so be gentle...I bought an Acer Aspire T135 a couple of years back and have put a bit more ram in it and a better graphics card since, but I'm now using an external drive a lot as my internal drive (a paltry 80gb) is chock a block. I bought a new internal 2nd drive at abou 40quid for 320gb but it won't mount so I'm planning on returning it. It's got me thinking though; can I actually upgrade it much more and is it going to be worth it?I ask because I only have 2 ram slots. One has a 1gb card in, the other has a 512mb in. When I look for a single stick of say 2 or 3 gb ram of the type of ram I have, I can only seem to find it max of 1gb per stick. So I have a couple of queries...- My ram type is DDR 400MHz/PC3200. Is the biggest I can get this 1gb? Is that a restriction?- The PC is: Acer Aspire T135 AMD Sempron 64bit 3100+. It now has a 128mb graphics card but it's still not running how I'd like it. Will I be able to improve this a lot more or should I do what I want to do and just get a decent-spec laptop?Any thoughts much appreciated...hrhkingcol

[Reading around it seemed the General Forum was more appropriate that the one for Graphics Cards. But please move this thread if needed]

Greets --

Is it literally true that my computer is limited to 2 GB RAM internally?

Reason: I need at least 512MB total video graphics memory. With what I have now I was able to get it up to:

Total Available Graphics Memory: 256 MB
Dedicated Video Memory: 0 MB
System Video Memory: 64 MB
Shared System Memory: 190 MB
Intel Integrated Graphics 945GM

Windows Vista Home Premium 32 bit on a Toshiba Satellite A135-S4527 Laptop
Genuine Intel CPU T2080 1.73GHz 1.73 GHz
26GB of free space

(specs added below, too)

Have I have been receiving correct information about RAM limits for my computer?

I found posts in a somewhat heated thread elsewhere on the www
and was prompted to read the original article referenced:

"That 32-bit editions of Windows Vista are limited to 4GB is not because of any physical or technical constraint on 32-bit operating systems. The 32-bit editions of Windows Vista all contain code for using physical memory above 4GB. Microsoft just doesn’t license you to use that code..." ---Geoff Chappell

Before I started digging deeper I was under the impression, from initial research (the manual that came with my computer is scant & does not say), that I could only ever max out my RAM up to 1GB chips x 2 to = a grand tot... Read more

Ok so I have a Rio One mp3 player from sonicblue. I bought a 128 meg smart media card and it totals to 160 megs for music. Its fine I can store up to 30 songs and about 2 hours and something. What I was hoping is that with the 1.44 firmware upgrade I would be able to swap the smart media card for like a 512 or even more but Ive read that it only supports smart media cards that go up to 128 why is that?

Other mp3 players similiar to mine can only be upgraded to with a 128 card that would give them a total of 160 in some cases a bit more but for some reason these mp3 players cannot be upgraded with a higher capacity smart media card.

I just wanna know why.

If anyone knows of third party firmware upgrades for mp3 players get at me please.

I am running Win7 Pro virtually and have Remote Desktop configured to only allow 1 concurrent connection. This works great when the one user is logged in, however if the user just disconnects (so programs are running), another user is able
to connect to that machine. Is there a way to fix this so even if the machine is just disconnected, it should not allow any one (except the disconnected user) to log in? This used to work fine when we were on WinXP, but it seems like Win7 changed this.
I'm assuming Win7 Pro license doesn't allow this either, however it seems to work. I have also gone into Group Policy configured the two settings: Limit number of connections to 1 and Restrict RDS users to a single RDS session to Enabled, but in vain. Any
help or advice to fix this is appreciated.
Thank you,

Answer:Remote Desktop limit connections

Hi Sau,
Thanks for your clear description.
If a user specifies a different program to start when the user connects to the RD Session Host server, a new session will be created on the RD Session Host server for the user, even if the RD Session Host server is configured to restrict users
to a single session.

Hey everyone.

I apologize in advance if this is the wrong location to post this, but it seemed a bit out of place for the official installation support forum.

I'm currently in the process of building a custom desktop and have to determine if I'll be investing in an operating system for a functional product key. I have a Windows 7 Professional 64bit OS install disc at my disposal, but it's been used a few times in the past already and I fear that there may be some form of installation limit as to how many times it can be used before having to purchase a new copy.

I've read mixed answers online ranging from a singular install total (which I know to be incorrect considering I've used it across a laptop and desktop simultaneously), three maximum (where most of my concern is coming from because it's been used once on the desktop and twice on different hard drives inside the laptop due to an old drive failure), and infinite so long as only one copy is officially activated at a time (which would be strange since it's worked without issue across both of my devices for two years running at this point).

My question is quite simple. Do you know if I'd be able to use my existing Windows 7 install disc without a hitch on a new desktop? Would I have to uninstall it from one of my older devices? Or is it absolutely necessary for me to purchase a new OS package?

I'm just looking for clarity on this situation.

Any help would be immensely appreciated, and I thank you for yo... Read more

Answer:Getting a New Desktop: Is there a Windows 7 installation limit?

Hello RJP, and welcome to Seven Forums.

If this is a retail copy of Windows 7, then you are allowed to install and activate it on any computer so long as it's removed from any other computer first.

If it doesn't activate online as usual for whatever reason, then you could activate by phone instead.

I have purchased MS software before, some of them explicatly said on the box or manual that I can activate it on three sepertae systems.

I am planning to use this sale here: to install Windows 7 on my Laptop and Mac.

My laptop has Vista and I have an unused copy of XP I can use on my Mac (would the upgrade accept just putting in the XP cd to validate instead of having to install it first?).

I have three problems though:

1. I am not sure if I should get Professional over Home Premium (please note the sale is for Home Premium and PROFESISNAL, not Ultimate). And yes I have seen charts of the differences.

2. Even though Vista is already installed on my laptop, would I get the option to do a clean install? (I know you are forced to do this with XP or 2000).

3. I don't know how many activations I would get (how many different systems I can install and activate that copy on).

Can anybody please answer me?

I kinda want XP mode, but I dont think there woudl be much use in it for me, and there is no way I can purchase two Professional copies, too much money.

Answer:Windows 7 Upgrade - Activation Limit

OS system you can't activate on 3 systems unless you buy 3 licenses. It is 1 license per PC. Virtual XP you can get right now for free just by getting 3rd party open source virtual software and installing XP to it.
I've never bothered to do it but it is not hard to do going by what I have read about it. Clean install is the best way to always go for a trouble free install and the OS setup will give you an option to do that even if there is a previous OS on the HDD already.

If you are using Windows, I don't think there is a way to limit the # of apps running at one time. I do think there are ways to prevent more than one copy of an app running at the same time, however.

I was just wondering if there was any GPU upgrades, any brand would do, btw, for my Acer Aspire AX3900 PC.

I currently have an ATI Radeon HD 5570, and my mother board is apparently a FIH57 model with a PCI Express slot. And my PSU is 400 watts I believe.

Thanks in advance.

Answer:Graphics card upgrade for a small factor PC?

You do have the proper expansion slot, however you have a very weak power supply, I'm actually surprised it even supports the 5570 according to the specs I found you only have a 220 watt psu. You're really going to need quite a bit more to be stable with a more powerful graphics card.

How many times can i activate using the key (same computer, reinstalls)?

i bought the win 8 upgrade, but i'm having trouble with an old hardware and it's drivers often freeze windows 8, sometimes corrupting data. So having to do some trouble shooting i have had to reinstall and activate again. I'll try to make an image for the future tough.

so, now i worry if there is a limit. What happens or what can i do after reaching that limit?

I've got a friend's laptop running 8.1 here. They can't upgrade to 10 because a lot of the software they use for their work is extremely buggy and just about works on Win7 and 8.1 - She has been advised by the IT people working for her company not to upgrade to 10 until they give everyone the all clear to do so.

My question is, if I use the media creation tool on her laptop now to create an ISO, would that mean she could do the upgrade for free beyond this July?
I have read that it's necessary to do an inplace upgrade first in order to generate the necessary hardware id codes etc, but Im wondering if it's goes past the 12 month free period, if that notification will be gone or the ISO on the system will be useless?

Answer:Windows 10 free upgrade time limit

The way I understand it, ALL free upgrades MUST be done before the July date.

I just purchased an SW5-012 from Amazon yesterday and since there isn't the option for keyboard storage I would like to add a micro SD for extra space.  Does anyone know what the storage limit is?  64GB?  128GB?  Also, if I am willing, is there any known way to mod the non storage keyboard to fit an SSD in there?  Thanks for any help.

I believe it's 32GB in 64bit windows 7 and 8, but that makes me wonder why they sell 128 and 256 flash drives. For Ready Boost they say:You can use a maximum of 32 GB of available space on any single removable storage device with ReadyBoost and up to 256 GB total per computer (by inserting up to eight USB flash drives or flash memory cards into the same computer). as for modding the keyboard, If the keyboard is not already set up to receive a HDD, all you could do is insert a USB HDD with a USB lead coming out to plug in. I wonder if the keyboards are the same without the HDD or if the ones with a HDD are special model keyboards. There doesn't seem to be a lot of the "special" keyboards and it costs them dollars to design and manufacture each separate model.

We were using NT workstation as a file server and kept bumping into the 10 connection limit. So we then upgraded the installation to NT Server.

Here's the problem. We are still limited to the 10 connections. During the upgrade we chose "per server" and selected 35. When you look at License Manager, it states 35 licenses purchased, 11 in use. However it won't allow anymore connection until you disconnect one.

Any thoughts. We chose to upgrade versus a clean install because of the time factor.

I have a Dell Inspiron 660s Desktop running with 6 gb Memory, 1 tb Harddrive and Intel HD graphics. I want to upgrade my graphics to allow for a better gaming experience. I would like to know if it is possible to upgrade the graphics and If I could upgrade to this:
Thanks for any help!
I believe I have a small tower because It does not have much empty space inside. Is there any way to have a card not in the tower?

Answer:Inspiron 660s Desktop Graphics Upgrade

The GTX 750 will not work.  Only low profile cards will fit in the 660s.  You also only have a 220 watt power supply.  I run the HD 6570 HERE in the 660s which does pretty well with gaming.  Even though you can still find them (overpriced) because they have been discontinued, the HD 7750 HERE has worked in the 660s and was the best card you could get.  The Sapphire is only available used on ebay, but other brands are still around.  The HD 6570 would be superior to your Intel HD graphics and for the price may be your best buy.  You cannot run the cards outside your tower.

I'm looking to upgrade my small form factor desktops graphics card, however I've never done this upgrade before. I now need a HDMI port on my desktop to connect it to my new display. Would this graphics card be correct as im not too sure what I'm looking out for in a compatible card. Thanks in advance

Answer:HP Pro 3120 small form factor graphics card upgrade

Hi: Yes that card should work, but my only concern is that model has a fanless heatsink (which is nice because it is quiet and no fan to conk out on you). My concern is that the heat sink on the model you posted may stick out too far and interfere with other components inside the small form factor chassis. You may want to opt for this model card if you can get it in the UK. Note that the heat sink does not stick out much beyond the width of the card, and the low profile brackets are included in the box, so you can swap out the mounts. Also the VGA port can be uplugged from the card if you don't need the VGA port. So, open up the case of your PC and take a look around.  If you don't think the larger heat sink in the model you originally wanted is not going to be an issue, then go for it.

Answer:graphics card upgrade dell optiplex 9020 small

The power supplies in the SFF are so small and the case is soo small that there are few to none upgrades.  USFF systems have no slots whatsoever.
The 19W ASUS EAH5450 would be the ONLY one I know works.
The Silent ASUS card fits all models Except the USFF.  Optiplex Tower is a better choice because you can use much better cards.
USFF isn't upgrade-able due to no slots.

My son would like to use his GTX 1060 graphics card in his new Inspiron 3668, so I wanted to upgrade the power supply to something with 600W -- but I gather the original PSU is smaller than the power supply we have (5.9 x 5.5  x 3.38 inches), at least in height and width.  Will the power supply we have fit in this case, physically?  If not, what are my options for upgrading the power supply, to something with 600W?  All ideas much appreciated!

Answer:Inspiron 3668, upgrade PSU (for Graphics card)?

The case size is going to preclude an internal power supply upgrade.  While you can run a 600W power supply, it's going to have to sit outside the case, with the wires running into the case through an open slot bracket -- and that's IF the 1060 card you have will even fit inside the system and function with the limited cooling in the mini desktop case.
Also check the existing supply - most of these newer systems use a proprietary 8-pin connector to the mainboard, for which you'll also need an adapter for the 24-pin standard plug from the power supply you purchase.

So basically I'm looking to upgrade my computer in various ways, one of which is the graphics card. I've looked around and couldn't find a clear answer on what type(s) of graphic cards it could take. I'm in no way a computer person so I don't really know what there is but I know there is low-profile and then there's what I'll call normal size. Basically my question is am I limited to low-profile cards with this computer or can I go for ones that are beefier and larger? My current graphics card is an NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 730 which is what it came with.

Answer:Inspiron 3650 Graphics Card Upgrade

Beyond the power supply, the card has to fit the system - this is still a relatively small chassis, so you're limited in the physical dimensions the card has.
A mid-range card like an RX480 (or nVIdia equivalent, say the 1050) should work fine -- that said, many require extra power connectors your system doesn't have (the other reason you may need a new power supply, beyond the capacity).

We have a 6 year old Dell Inspiron 580 MT. Just purely because of its age I am about to put in a new Hard Drive, & while doing this I thought to upgrade/replace the dedicated Graphics card.
At the Moment there is a 512 MB NVIDIA GeForce G310 card in there. The Computer is used mainly for business, so no gaming stress on it. The Card handles two Monitors, both Dell 2007FP with a resolution of 1600 x 1200. At the moment one is on the DVI, one on the VGA but I would like to make both DVI to "Future Proof" if we replace the Monitors with larger Higher resolution ones.
What would be a sensible upgrade Graphics Card? I would like to find one that would not require a PSU upgrade as well.

my 7 year old Dell has served me well enough for 6-7 years but throws its electronic hands up in horror at games like Tomb Raider Underworld, or newer. Looking into it, the games should run well enough if it weren't for the motherboard graphics card.
I was thinking of getting a GeForce GTX 750 Ti, because of its performance and low power consumption. I need to know if it will fit okay and if I also need to upgrade my existing PSU, which is as old as the PC.
Here's what I know I've got:
Computer; Dell Inspiron 531
Operating System: Windows Vista 32 bit
CPU: AMD 64x2 dual core 5000+, 2.6 GHz
Internal hard drives : 2 x Samsung HD321KJ 298 GB HDD
Optical drives: PBDS DVD+RW; TSST Corp DVD ROM
Graphics card: Motherboard GeForce 6150 SE nForce 430
Graphics slot: PCIE x16
PSU: Bestec ATX0300P5WB, 300W
Currently, when set to max performance the computer uses 160W at the socket, so I'm guessing it only consumes around 110W internally.
Here are my questions. I hope you can help:

Will the card fit that set-up?
Should I replace the PSU? it's old and I'd heard that a second power supply was needed for the GTX 750 TI, which it doesn't seem to have.
If a new PSU is recommended does it need to be bigger that 300W? Some say it does...others say it doesn't!
What PSU would you suggest? I'd wondered about a Corsair CX430. Physically I can't go bigger than 14x15x8.6 cm, because the motherboard sits pretty tightly underneath the PSU.

Am I going along the right lines, or am I way off... Read more

You're not going to be able to do much upgrading in that system due to the proprietary design and low-capacity power supply.  If you're looking for much better video performance, it's time for a new system.

I am a CPA looking to upgrade the graphics card on my work computer so that I can get 1920X1080 resolution on my three monitor setup.  My current setup uses HD Graphics 4600, but there are only two display ports (HDMI and VGA), so the third monitor is hooked up via an adaptor to the USB port.  The USB port only allows me to have a max resolution of 1600X900, and gray colors don't show up on the monitor (very annoying when using excel). I will not be doing any video editing or playing games (let alone at max graphics settings), just entering numbers into programs and occasionally watching a youtube video (on breaks of course).
Do you have any recomendations on a cheap graphics card that supports a three monitor setup at 1920X1080 where I wouldn't have to upgrade the power supply?  Ports ideally would be VGA, DVI, HDMI (not mini).
Here are some specs on the computer:
-Windows 10
-PCI Express x16 slot
-Power supply is 300W
-I believe the graphics card needs to be less than 8" long (from what I've read on other forums).

My monitor supports 1920x1200 resolution, but the most I can get out of the onboard Intel HD 530 is 1920x1080. I have tried adding a custom resolution of 1920x1200, but it says the system does not have enough bandwidth for this resolution.
I fitted an Radeon HD 5450 to the machine, but I can not access the BIOS with this fitted. The machine does successfully boot into Windows 10, but I can't access the BIOS at all. I believe this is because I have "UEFI SECURE" more enabled.
If I turn off SECURE mode, then it will work ok, but I want to keep SECURE mode on.
I am limited on power, as the Dell Inspiron 3650 only has a 240W supply.
I have seen suggestions of the GEForce GT730. Does anyone have one of these and can they confirm they boot ok with SECURE mode on?
Alternatively what other graphics cards are people using with the Dell Inspiron 3650?

Specifically One card from ONE vendor.   ASUS EAH 5450.
Some LOW Profile cards WILL NOT FIT.  The ASUS Silent 5450 and 6450 Definitely will.
The low profile must be REALLY low profile or the cover will not go on or the heatsink will prevent the hard drive bracket from going back in or both.
Get an ASUS SILENT RADEON HD 5450.  THE EAH5450 from ASUS fits in ALL Models of GX280 EXCEPT THE USFF Pictured Below.   THE 5450 Comes with 2 sets of brackets for Low Profile or standard slots.
If you have USFF you cannot install ANY card because there are no slots.

There are some old posts out there that consider the options for GPU upgrades on a Dell Inspiron 620 (Tower not slimline) given it's minimally spec'd PSU.
There seems to be a number of relatively recent NVidia cards marketed as low power, that rely solely on the PCI slot and do not have the extra 6 pin power source. Subject to size/space in the PC, and dual slow (one for venting) and the layout of the Inspiron internally, has anyone any experience successfully working with more recent cards, such as the low power GTX 750, 950 and even 1050.
My instinct says that there must be a problem, but if there is I'd like to understand exactly what. If it is worth a shot, I'd take a gamble as I've other machines that I know could handle one. Finally, if anyone is aware of more recent lower power Radeon graphic cards, I'd be happy to take advice on those.
For completeness, the current spec of the Inspiron is i5-2400, with 8GB memory, standard disk HD and that's about all.

You can't upgrade the video in this model -- there is no internal socket for a video card.

Answer:How to upgrade Graphics card of HP Pavilion p6270in Desktop PC

You have a PCI-e slot on your motherboard so theoretically you can fit any of the latest cards. It's not that simple though, for starters you only have a 300W PSU which will limit you to the most basic cards and is probably why a GT220 is fitted. You'd need at least a 450W PSU to run a decent card.
You only have a dual core CPU too which will bottleneck any of the latest nVidia cards.
Lastly is case size, some of today's cards are absolutely massive and the chances are most would be too big for your case.

One thing to try to get your GPU temperatures down is to remove the side panel from the case (with the power switched off and every external cable unplugged) and give the machine a good clean out with a soft brush and a can of compressed air. Dust build up can easily block the heatsink on the GPU (as well as other components) which will stop it from cooling properly.
Are you using this machine for gaming by any chance?

Hello my name is Joe and first off I am hopeless around computers. Anyway I was given an old gaming desktop (if you can call 2011 old) and I was hoping to upgrade the graphics card but I have no idea on what is even compatible with my system. Here are my computer specs:
Operating System
Windows 10 Home 64-bit
Intel Core i7 3770K @ 3.50GHz 45 °C
Ivy Bridge 22nm Technology
32.0GB Dual-Channel DDR3 (11-11-11-28)
Gigabyte Technology Co. Ltd. H77-DS3H (Intel Core i7-3770K CPU @ 3.50GHz) 28 °C
Generic Non-PnP Monitor ([email protected])
1024MB ATI AMD Radeon HD 7700 Series (Sapphire/PCPartner) 48 °C
1024MB ATI AMD Radeon HD 7700 Series (Sapphire/PCPartner) 35 °C
CrossFire Disabled
1863GB Western Digital WDC WD20EZRX-00D8PB0 ATA Device (SATA) 29 °C
Optical Drives
AMD High Definition Audio Device
I'm just looking for a card around the 100-250 dollar range any suggestions will be greatly appreciated and I am sorry if this is a silly question but I really do not know where to even start with computers.

I have an HP Pavilion p6395a desktop with MS-7613 (Iona-GL8E) motherboard in a Mid size ATX case. I want to upgrade from ASUS HD 6670, with an ASUS GeForce GTX 1060 6GB and a Be Quiet Pure Power 9 500W CM PSU.   Firstly, my supplier has advised me to check if the graphics card is compatible with my HP Pavilion I5 hardware and software/BIOS, are there any known issues? Secondly are there any proprietary power cable issues if I upgrade from HIPRO HP-D3057F3H 300W to a Be Quiet Pure Power 9 500W CM PSU. Any assistance would be appreciated, thanks.

Yeah, I know this sounds sad but I finally grasped the nettle and replaced both my PSU and added a GeForce GTX 750 Ti graphics card at the same time.
The whole process was fraught with trepidation but that's another story. I have noticed several instant differences (once the PC didn't explode). These are all good. Better definition, much improved internet experience, gaming that left me astounded.
However, and this is a niggle, my desktop background has shrunk, leaving a blue border. After all the hairy stuff, this seems minor, but I want it full screen. I have tried reloading it and that doesn't work. I put the background together using Paintnet and downloaded images. I like it and want it to be displayed properly. What's wrong?

Answer:After graphics card upgrade my desktop background doesn't fit the screen

In Windows right click and select personalise or properties, then go to desktop background and select the option Stretch. Also install any drivers that give better compatability if this does not work

Common complaint, I am working with Windows 7 on a Dell Optiplex 755, but teh issue is with the System Volume setting. When I go to the audio mixer and do the test and configuration, the SoundMax audio level is loud and clear. The problem is with the Windows system settings somewhere, is there a limiter or cap setting in teh registry that I can set to maximum?

I know that it is not the standard slide bars/levels but somewhere that Windows 7 Professional is cutting the volume on any Windows application. The drivers are fine, if I invoke the card directly it will blast the sound out. But in any application it is too soft.

Answer:Windows 7, sound limit, audio card is loud Windows is soft

As you have a Dell, for proper operation you need to use the Dell supplied driver. I used to do a lot of support on the Dell forums and we found that non-Dell sound drivers either did not work or did not work correctly.

Here is the Dell Vista sound driver, it will also work with Windows 7 as it is just "Vista improved". It is for both the 32 bit and 64 bit OS versions. Drivers and Downloads | Dell [United States]

This is a first step. If its still not working correctly after installing the driver, the next thing is what programs you are using that are "low"? If you click on the speaker icon in the notification area (lower right) you can set the system volume level.

I'm not sure if I'm trying to do the impossible but I'll explain the situation.

I have this roommate that is excessively consuming the majority of the networks bandwidth. I've blocked all service ports except for 443, 80, and a few other ones used for every day task. The problem is that he is still consuming a ton of bandwidth, I'm guessing by streaming or downloading through HTTP.

I have *two* WGR614v10 router, and a Realtek PCIe LAN card controller at my disposal. I attempted to set QoS settings on what we will call Base Router. That did not seem to do the trick because router QoS only blocks ports and slows upload speed. Since that did not work I hid the SSID/MAC filtered connections to the Base Router and then connected my computer to the Base Router and rebroadcasted the signal using a Secondary Router using a shared connection, which I gave him access to. The point of this was an attempt to control bandwidth through the Realtek LAN card; I am not having any luck with this though. I've set the adapter to 10Mbps at half duplex already.

Does anyone have any suggestions on what I can look into for limiting bandwidth? I want him to have Internet but not abuse it like he's doing because that is not what we agreed upon.

Answer:How to limit network traffic speeds with a network card?

If you want to solve the issue using your existing equipment, you can try dd-wrt on one WGR614v10. See this thread (DD-WRT Forum :: View topic - WGR614v10 Support - Jump to post 9) which claims that there is a dd-wrt flash for WNR1000v3 which works on WGR614v10. Then look a thread like this (DD-WRT Forum :: View topic - Steps for Permanently limit Bandwidth of a PC using DD-WRT ?) to setup the limits. You can start a new thread in those forums if you want someone to walk you thru the steps.

Or you can just buy a router/access point that has a bandwidth limiting feature for each SSID that it broadcasts.

I have a Dell Inspiron 3647, that is running Windows 10.I want to add firewire to it so I can download digital movies I made with my camera. Does anyone know the firewire port I have to buy that will fit into my computer?

Answer:Firewire for Inspiron 3647

You should be able to use something like this
... that said, if your camera is old enough to require firewire and you don't have  a stock of old tapes, etc. to convert (such as 8 mm, VHS-C or mini-DV), you may be better off upgrading your camera to a USB version.  At minimum, if the camera requires software, be sure it is compatible with Windows 10 - - again, an older camcorder may not be.

I have two 8mb memory cards installed in my Inspiron 3647 pc, but only the Dimm1 slot says 8.1920mb.  The other slot - Dimm2 reads 4.0960mb.  Does anyone know why the Dimm2 is only showing 1/2 the available memory?  Total available memory is only 12mb.  It should be around 16mb, right??  I read that Windows 7 sets aside a certain amount of memory, but 4mb?? Seriously??

Answer:Inspiron 3647 Memory

(typo) I meant two 8gb memory cards installed

Bought 5 of these about 14 mo ago. One wouldn't activate. Dell sent a MB and still wouldn't activate. Couldn't reimage the PC at the time and now I'm out of warranty. Showkeyplus shows Windows 7 OEM marker present in firmware. This came from Dell with Win8 reinstalled. Do I have any resort at this point in getting this to activate without purchasing a new license?

Answer:Inspiron 3647 won't activate Win 8.0

You can probably use your downgrade rights from Windows 8.1 Pro to Windows 7 Pro using the Dell Windows 7 Professional with "SP2" Reinstallation DVD/USB for more details in slipstreaming SP2 into existing media see here:
Then you can upgrade to Windows 10 Pro which will register your systems hardware profile with a Microsoft Product Activation server making your system a "Windows 10 Pro Device":
You can then Clean Install Windows 10 Pro without input of a product key... a "Windows 10 Pro Device" will automatically reactivate when online.
Alternatively you can take the Unofficial Windows 10 10130 Upgrade path which will also make your system a "Windows 10 Pro Device":

I have been trying to find a USB dongle type (dial-up) modem that will work on my 3647 for use with an answering machine program.  I am using Windows 10 (Home)..  I have tried several modems but although they might work, they all create an error when trying to shut down the computer and then restarts computer.  The error BSOD says that SYSTEM_THREAD-EXEMPTION_NOT_HANDLED CAXHWCD2.SYS..... Which is a driver file.. I am now looking for another modem to try that utilizes a driver that is available in WIN 10..  Not one that I had to download from a generic (non-mfg) website..  Anyone recommend a modem that will work on the 3647 WIN 10??? One other thing.. If I remove the modem (unplug it) the system will shut down fine..

Answer:Inspiron 3647 Modem

You wont be able to use a usb modem as answering machine because it cannot pickup the line and record voice messages.
Many Dialogic boards are $1000 and too long to fit into a 3650
This one would fit but it too is expensive.
ZOOM lists a windows 10 driver for their 3095 USB modem
You also have to go into control panel and add back the fax and scanning features as well as the LPR printing standards.

I can't hear any cd/dvd. I am using a rather new (3 months old) Inspiron 3647. I went to the Device Manager and under Sound, Video and Game Controller, Realtek High Definition Audio, I inadvertently deleted two other Realtek devices. Could this be the problem? In my defense I kept the only one that had audio in the name. Any help would be appreciated. P.S. is still under warranty.

Answer:Inspiron 3647, no audio for play cd/dvd ?

* Open the Device Manager (Press the Windows key and the Pause-Break key, click Device Manager)* Single click the top computer name* Click "Scan for hardware changes"* Did new devices get reinstalled? If yes, restart the computer and retest

I have a Dell Inspiron 3647 machine and that I have installed Windows 7 32-bit which is running fine with no problem whatsoever. I now would like to have a backup of device drivers by Dell for Windows 7 32-bit which I failed to get on website and the same was confirmed by several TSRs down the light wherein the hard fact is other way around. I thereby request someone of you to help me to get device drivers for Dell Inspiron 3647 machine and oblige.
Regards, Murugu D.

Answer:Inspiron 3647, Windows 7 32-bit drivers?

The 2013 Inspiron Desktop 3647 was never sold/tested/supported by Dell for Windows 7 32-bit =

So no, Dell cannot provide to you Windows 7 32-bit drivers. Because you installed a non-supported operating system, you will need to create a backup image of your current non-supported Windows 7 32-bit and whatever drivers you may have installed and save it for future use.

I want to connect my desktop to my analogue stereo amplifier via an external dac which has optical & coax inputs only (no usb input). Will any of the audio ports on an Inspiron 3647 desktop allow me to bypass the onboard dac.
