External monitor not detected by Intel HD Graphics 5500 on XPS 13 with Dell 4-in-1 adapter

Question: External monitor not detected by Intel HD Graphics 5500 on XPS 13 with Dell 4-in-1 adapter

I am using the VGA port of a Dell 4-in-1 adapter (DA100) to connect my XPS 13 with touch screen display to a Dell U2412M monitor. The Intel HD Graphics Control Panel does not detect that there is an external monitor attached to the computer, i.e., the Graphics Options menu does not show the "Output To" option, the Graphics Properties' Display menu shows only "Built-in Display" under the Select Display tab, etc. The DA100 was installed remotely by Dell Support (after neither I nor they could find the driver on the Dell support website, as instructed to do by the software driver download guide that comes with the adapter), so I assume that it was installed correctly. Has anyone else experienced this problem and, hopefully, have a solution?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello, am the proud new owner of a T550 type 20CK and ProDock. The ThinkPad itself has the 3K (2880 by 1620) LCD panel. I want to use this machine at my desk with an external 4K (3840x2160) monitor so that windows can move from screen to screen without scaling. But the Screen Resolution section of Windows 8.1 control panel only shows a max resolution for the external screen of 2560x1440. The hardware is supposed to be able to do this. I think I need a better driver. Explanation: Graphics are from the Intel HD Graphics 5500 onboard chip. The spec sheet for my machine, here, http://psref.lenovo.com/Product/164?MT=20CK  says  "Intel HD Graphics 5500 in processor only, or Intel HD Graphics 5500 in processor and NVIDIA GeForceŽ 940M, 1GB memory (discrete models are only available in Western Europe); supports external analog monitor via VGA and digital monitor via Mini DisplayPort; supports three independent displays; Max resolution: [email protected] (DP via mDP cable); [email protected] (VGA)" Yet this resolution is not selectable. The Intel HD graphics 5500 driver updated by Lenovo System Update is dated 11/18/2014, pretty old. Intel's site has a driver dated 3/6/2015. But the system will not let me install this driver saying my system needs a custom driver I must obtain from Lenovo. Please help! Bryan

How are you connecting the monitor? DisplayPort? Have you tried plugging it into the laptop directly? I have the same question - I just received my T550 today, got the Pro dock, and I am waiting on a 3440x1440 monitor. Hoping that everything works...

Hello, The title pretty much says it all.  I have a Lenovo Edge laptop with a Intel5500 graphics chipset.  I'm connecting to my external monitor via the HDMI adapter, but I'm not able to achieve 60Hz refresh rate at 4k resolution.  Can anyone help or confirm that the Lenovo Edge HDMI port is version 2.0 and or if there's anything else I should try?

T61 with Vista 32 bit, Mobile IntelŽ GM965 Express Chipset and an Advanced Mini Dock.I am trying to use the DVI port and an external monitor. The driver does not detect the external monitor.Uninstalling the Intel driver the Generic profile will work on the external monitor, but is overly fuzzy, how do I get the T61 to recognize my external monitor with the right drivers?I am currently running the Intel Driver Ver. - 7.14.10.1329, which provides the message under Multiple Display:Two displays must be connected to the computer before you can use this feature. Please connect another display.Of course my 22" monitor is connected.  That is the frustrating part.  I have also uninstalled Presentation Director, just in case, but then re-installed after it seemed that wasn't the problem. There is a newer driver from Intel but it is not Lenovo approved yet I guess. Though I highly doubt this is the problem. What can I do?~~I did post a thread on the thinkpads.com too, but so far haven't had any luck.

I have an HP monitor connected to the HDMI port on my Dell Inspiron 5559.  When I boot up, the HP monitor is asleep.  If I right-click on my desktop and choose Intel Graphics Settings -> Multiple Displays -> Detect, the HP monitor wakes up immediately and my display is Extended to the monitor.

How can I get my laptop to boot up in this configuration?  (with my display extended to the external monitor)

Edit: I fixed it! (I was causing the problem myself but uninstalling the chip in the first place when i should have been disabling it instead)

Ok... I looked for about an hour and decided i would have to make a new thread for my specific problem... so sorry if im making my first post in an odd place

I recently installed a NVIDIA GeForce 5500 FX PCI 256MB DDR video card
followed directions as best i could, and disabled the Intel integrated graphics... but my PC insists on REinstalling the intel integrated graphics controller upon restart... It left me alone for awhile and i could run Counter Strike : Condition Zero moderately well (low frames after playing for over an hour) but after allowing my computer to update itself (while using IE to dowload firefox for a reinstall, IE randomly decided my home page was going to be the microsoft site for the day) and since then no matter what i do the computer insists on trying to reinstall the intel integrated graphics thing...

so my question is, how do I make this stop? how do i keep the computer from giving me the dreaded "found new hardware" bubble when im using a FAR superior (REAL) video card already?

is there something i do in the BIOS (i hope not, i dont like messing around in there) or on the motherboard itself?

i have some basic info about my comp in my signature but im going to use "PolSystemInfo" to find all my PC specs and just copy paste them below, I just hope its enough info to help so... Read more

Answer:NVIDIA GeForce 5500 FX-vs-Intel Integrated Graphics... please make intel go away!

Hmm that didn't happen to me when I put mines in. Did you install the NVIDIA drivers? Try disabling the onboard in the device manager. That?s what I did. There doesn?t seem to be an option to turn it off in the bios (my bios) maybe there is for you however. It isn?t too complicated. Just simply look for onboard graphics or integrated graphics controller or w/e and select disable, but first try disabling it in the device manager. It should be listed under display adapters -> properties -> disable this device.

You should upgrade to DX9.0c...

I just received an E5470 with the Intel HD520 graphics card. I have a Linkskey KVM (LKU-SO4ASK). This laptop is replacing an E6520 where the KVM works fine. The monitor is a Samsung BH2330H. The mouse (Logitech MX-518) and the keyboard (MS Digital Media Pro) work fine on the KVM when I attach it with the E5470. It is just that the monitor is blank.
If I take a VGA (analog) cable from the monitor to the new laptop (E5470), I can work with multiple monitors. Duplicate, Extend and Projector Only work fine.
If I hook it up with the same cables that I'm using for the E6520, as I said earlier, the mouse and keyboard work but the Samsung Monitor is blank whether I Extend or Duplicate it. If I select "Projector Only", it is blank and after about 10 seconds, I get this error:
Unable to connect to projector.
No Projector was Detected
I just updated to the most recent BIOS and installed the Synaptics VMM3320 MST HUB Firmware Updater (3.10.1 - Apr 18,2016) and still no luck.
I'm at a loss. I really don't want to keep around the E6520 so that I can RDP to E5470. It will be a pain when I have to figure out the best workaround when trying to be on a VPN.
If anyone has experience issues with the Intel HD520 and KVMs, I'd be interested if you have been able to solve it.
Thanks.

Have problem with intel 5500 HD graphics driver on dell 7548. Getting  error code 43 since updating to windows 10. After longing onto windows it return to sign in screen looking to missing driver. No one seems to have an answer.  I tried installing every driver possible from intel and Dell

Answer:intel HD 5500 graphics

Uninstall all the video drivers (if it's Intel only, there will just be one set;  if it's a hybrid video setup, there will also be an nVidia or AMD driver).
If this is Windows 10, reboot the system and make sure you're online.  Windows should pick up and install the video drivers for your system, at least the Intel one.  If not, the correct driver for Windows 10-64 bit is this one:

Hi, I have a problem with my graphic card driver. At first I had the driver installed by Windows 8.1, I believe it was the most recent one as I couldn't do an update. At that point the computer's monitor hasn't been waking up from stand by state while the whole laptop was actually working(CPU fan, HD, Windows welcome sound etc.). The screen simply remained black with backlit on. Following the advice from this forum I've downgraded my driver to version 10.18.10.3910 and it helped. Unfortunately, now I have problems with using second display. When I connect my 22" Lenovo ThinkVision to a VGA port everything is OK, but then once I restart the computer only the second monitor(VGA output) works. I've set my integrated display as primary but it doesn't help. When I disconnect VGA cable laptop's monitor remains blank. Only disconnect and restart helps. I've tried to change Windows settings but it only sees the external monitor(when restarted with VGA cable attached). Do you have any suggestions how can this be fixed?

Hi all, Bought a new Aspire F5-571 two months ago with Windows 10 preinstalled. Recently, I've started getting the error message in the subject line of this post. Doing some research reveals that it could be a problem with the display drivers. I've checked Acer's website for my model and the only graphics drivers available are Intel's VGA drivers. Intel's web site reveals that the drivers for Intel HD Graphics 5500 are OEM drivers and are shipped by the manufacturer - obviously in this case Acer. Anyone any idea if there are updated drivers anywhere on Acer's website ? Regards, gneil15

Hi,

After having issues with my W7-64 bit HP Envy 15 laptop, I decided to reinstall the OS. Everything went as planned until I installed the win64_153619 graphics driver from the Intel website.

Although the driver installed OK, the control panel interface is now different (now called Intel HD Graphics Control Panel)

There's no longer brightness control. The power options in W7 only has 10 steps for brightness of which are either too bright or too dark. My question is, how can I have more control over brightness? Third party software?

Answer:Brightness Issues - Intel HD Graphics 5500

I don't have this setup, but will on a new Toshiba Laptop with the Intel 5500 graphics that I just ordered. I'm posting to track this thread to see what transpires.

Can anyone verify that the newer X1 carbons w/ the Intel HD graphics 5500 are displayport 1.2 MST? I had planned on getting another x1 (current has intel HD 4000) for the 16gb memory and 512 SSD PCI.  I need to be able to drive two external monitors in extended mode.  I do a lot of CAD and construction takeoff work. My current x1 will only drive dual, external monitors in duplicate mode. I have searched over the net, the intel site, and here concerning the DP 1.2 MST with the Intel HD 5500.  I was able to find out that the intel HD 4000 is only displayport 1.1 which is why I can't get extended desktop with two external monitors via the mini DP port. Thanx in advance.

Hello,

I have been searching on the internet about this issue I'm currently battling. I have have found similar issues but not exactly what I am going through.

I am hoping you experts can help me. Here it goes...

I have a Lenovo G50-80 laptop, which is less than a month old. It came with Windows 8.1 and had a free upgrade to Windows 10. It ran fantastically except I still preferred Windows 7 - I did a clean install.

The problem is my graphics card. When I had Windows 10, in the dxdiag page I had the following tabs:System
Display
Render
Sound
Input

Basically on the Display tab, the Intel HD Graphics 5500 is displayed and on the Render tab, I had the AMD Radeon HD 8500M.

Now that I downgraded to Windows 7 (installed all updates including SP1), the Render tab is no longer there.

I have checked the device manager and saw both cards listed and active with no errors.

I did the following:Updated Drivers for both Intel and AMD graphics
Uninstalled all graphic drivers and reinstalled Intel first then AMD
Changed the settings on the AMD graphics controller to Maximum Performance on the game I am playing

I do not know what I am missing here.

I am really looking forward to a solution.

Thank you in advance, gentlemen!

Hi all! A friend of mine has ThinkPad T520 and would like to have 2 external monitors while ALSO using his laptop screen, for 3 monitors total.  However, when I attempted to setup the second external monitor I discovered that it appears that, although his laptop has both VGA and Displayport, that only one or the other can be utilized while also using the laptop screen. Is there ANY workaround for this?  Would a dock enable him to have more than 2 active monitors, or perhaps a USB to DVI adapter?  Or is it a matter of the video card adapter (intel in this case)? Thanks!

Hi,
I have Dell Inspiron 5000 series 5558 model laptop. Recently i have upgraded to Windows 10 from Windows 8.1.
I have also used driver & download web page on Dell portal to  download & install latest drivers for Windows 10 64-bit OS including BIOS. But the issue is i'm unable to view "Nvidia Geforce 920M display adapter" under desktop-->display settings-->Display-->advanced display settings and it shows "Intel HD Graphic 5500".
I have checked Device Manager --> Display Adapters and i can see both Nvidia GeForce 920M & Intel HD Graphics 5500.
Also under Nvidia Control Panel --> Manage 3D settings -->global settings is set to "High performance Nvidia Process".
Please advice how do i change settings under desktop-->display settings-->Display-->advanced display settings to use "Nvidia GeForce 920M" instead of "Intel HD Graphic 5500".
Nvidia GeForce 920M driver= 359.06
Please advice.

So I had this problem that would make my games look very crap and heavy lagging in some medium-size titles, then some people told me it`s the graphics card fault and so i checked it. turns out it`s ~1 year outdated, tried to install an update from the Intel page, that also said it was very outdated. The Notebook doesn`t let me update it because, i quote, "your manufacturer personalizez the drivers and this specific driver is now allowed. you can install a generic driver but you risk devoiding your warranty and lose some critical system functions". Further, i went to the Lenovo Support page, made a complete scan and guess what? Nothing wrong. So i tried to manually download a driver update and only found Nvidia VGA Driver and Intel VGA Driver, but none of them were accepted, for the same reason as above. What do I do now? Do I install that 'generic driver' or contact a professional?

The same situation was noticeable few years ago before Win8 was offered on the market.

Hi all: I have a problem with my laptop (model VN7-571G). After a recent Windows 10 update, now I am not able to connect the laptop to my flat  LG TV via HDMI. I think it has to be related to Intel Graphics 5500 (current driver 10.18.15.4248). When I connect the laptop to my flat TV, laptop screen goes black (as it happened before), but TV message says "Without Conection". If I try to use Intel Driver Update Utility 2.6.1.4, it says I have to go to Acer website to get the drivers. I have already uninstalled all Intel drivers (VGA, chipset, etc.), and installed the ones in Acer website but the problem still exists. Any idea how to solve it?. Thanks and regards from Spain.Ignacio

My laptop comes with Intel HD Graphics 5500, so I tried to install this driver. But whenever I install it, either using setup.exe or from device manager, it runs well for sometimes, after what the screen starts flickering. The PC hangs with screen displaying black and white lines like an old B&W TV. After shutting it down holding the power button, whenever I start the PC, it shuts down unexpectedly. What should I do?

Ever since I downloaded the Windows 10 anniversary update, my display has gone absolutely haywire. Weird dots all over the place, major screen tearing--it renders the pc basically unusable. I've isolated the problem in the graphics card--Intel HD 5500, driver version 20.19.15.4360. Disabling the graphics card makes all of the problems go away instantly. However, disabling it also means I can't dim the screen, use HDMI, or my Flex anti-blue-light software; being unable to dim the screen at all also drains the battery. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the driver, checking for driver updates, rolling back the driver to the previous version, all to no avail. I have contact Intel directly; they sent me a different, generic driver which I couldn't actually install because it said "The driver being installed is not validated for this computer." I've been all over the forums and Google and I haven't come across anybody else with this exact problem. I have been dealing with this for weeks now and it's driving me crazy--every time my pc updates I hope this will be the one that fixes it, and then, nothing. I have been nothing but happy with my HP Envy up until now, so this is really frustrating. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi,
I have problem with my Intel HD graphics 5500 driver.
Some days ago my display started to show distorted objects when I scrolled down, so I updated my driver to the latest Intel's one. The updated drive caused problem with starting my Windows 7 64 bit. The Windows did not start at all.
So I uninstalled the Intel's driver and install this one from your site, which is recommended for my device. My Intel HD graphics 5500 driver does not recognize your driver at all.
How can I resolve this issues?

I have a Latitude E6520/Core i7/8Gb RAM with standard Intel HD(r) Graphics - would I be able to use the Dell U3415W Monitor externally, connected to the Latitude's built-in display port, and drive the monitor at it's native resolution - WQHD (3440x1440), simultaneously with the built in LCD panel at 1920x1080? How about without the built-in panel?
Incidentally, I'd love to know how to figure this sort of stuff out myself, if anyone has any pointers to doing so.
Thanks,Bob

Just purchased a Thinkpad E550 and having instaled all the Windows 7 updates, I upgraded to Windows 10. Everything 'seemed' to be working well and I really like the look of Windows 10.However, several users here have multiple (2) monitors connected to their laptops when at the office and one when at remote sites. So this is a must have. When I tried to connect either a monitor or projector to the VGA or HDMI port I get 'No Signal'. It works perfectly well with Windows 7.Checking in Device Manager I find an exclamation mark on the driver, so I tried to update it. It is the most up to date (31/08/2016 Ver: 10.18.15.4281) but in properties I get the message: 'Windows will not install driverIntel HD Graphics 5500Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems (code 43)'  Ran every update on the laptop Chipset, BIOS etc.Uninstalled the driver, downloaded the latest from the Lenovo support site, but still it installs the Microsoft Graphics driver.Tried to install the driver from the Intel site, but get the message directing me to use the manufacturers driver. At a complete loss and with the laptop under warranty I called Lenovo Support, who then proceeded to reinstall the driver. Same problem - No VGA output No HDMI output! They then told me to roll back to Windows 7. THAT IS NOT A SOLUTION.I did and low and behold the external ports work as normal. Has anybody manged to get their Lenovo E550 (or ANY laptop) with Intel... Read more

Hello! I have a query related to video memory of Intel HD Graphics 5500. When I have installed the recommended driver on Dell site for my laptop, it showstotal available graphics memory 3839 MBdedicated video memory 0 MBsystem video memory 0 MBshared system memory 3839 MBBut when I updated the driver from device manager, it showstotal available graphics memory 3968 MBdedicated video memory 128 MBsystem video memory 0 MBshared system memory 3840 MB
Can anybody please explain this? Also, should I keep this updated driver or roll back to the previous version?
One more thing, when I set up this laptop for the very first time after purchase, I remember the total graphic memory it used to show was something around 2k MB. I don't understand why does it share this much now. And if this graphic memory is shared from RAM, then it's almost eating up 4GB of my RAM!! The system has total 8GB RAM. Is it fine to let the Intel graphics share so much of RAM when this laptop already has 4GB dedicated Nvidia Geforce 920M? Please help.
Thank you.
Kind regards,
Aditya

I just purchased a z400 with the "upgraded" graphics of 1600 x 900. I just purchased (but can cancel delivery on) a Dell s2340t monitor ( for a lot of reasons). Now I am reading the manual for the monitor and it stresses using 1920 x 1080. The Dell manual urges you to upgrade your drivers if that display level is not a choice. Is there any way to get the z 400 to display 1920 x 1080?Can you replace the intel adapter? If I can get a definitive answer soon enough and that definitive answer is "No!", it may not be tool late to cancel my monitor.

Answer:Dell S2340t Monitor with Ideapad 400z with Intel Graphics Card Issue is 1920 x 1080

1600 x 900 is the limit of the laptops screen, not the GPU. You can use almost any* resolution on the external screen provided it supports it. I'm currently using two screen on my Y580. The internal is 1920 x 1080 and the external is 1366 x 768 (it's physically smaller too). -----*there is always upper limit though. I'm not sure what is it for Intel GPU, but I'd say it's at least 2560x1600.

Hello Lenovo community, i bought last week an U41 70 (i5-5500, Intel HD 5500, 8GB RAM, 256 GB SSD).Everything is working fine on it except the HDMI-output. I tried to uninstall/install the graphic card Driver from the lenovo support site and also directly from the intel support site, but nothing helped.I booted the computer on a Ubuntu boot-stick and everything worked fine, so it is definitely not a hardware problem. The PnP laptop-screen works under windows 10 fine but the external HDMI-monitor is not getting any signal from the computer. Please do not tell me to try the hot key (Fn + F10) or (win + P).Is there any suggestion to overcome the problem? Are there simillar problems with the Intel HD 5500 and win 10?

Answer:HDMI problem U41 70 (i5-5500, Intel HD 5500, 8GB RAM, 256 GB SSD) on windows 10

hi hamza2,

Welcome to the Forums.

I don't have a U41 70 here for testing but I would try these steps:
1. Using either the lenovo or intel display driver, connect the HDMI cable to the U41-70 and into the external display then disable the graphics device from the Device Manager > Display adapter then re-enable it (this refreshes the graphics device and scans the connected displays).

2. Open System Properties then follow this guide to disable automatic driver installation then uninstall the Intel HD 5500 graphics driver from the Programs and Features and in the Device Manager > Display Adapters and reboot (Windows will not use its inbox display driver aka Microsoft Basic Driver) then try connecting the external display and observe.

If same problem, try using the driver via WIndows Update and observe.

3. If the problem is still there, consider installing the Win8.1 driver.

Intel VGA Driver for Windows 8.1 (64-bit) - Notebook

Doing a websearch on the string Intel HD 5500 Windows 10 HDMI shows a few Intel Community threads with the same problem but they usually indicate it in the release notes if there are bug fixes.

Let me know how it goes.

This driver (or part of it) is not digitally signed, hence during silent install in SCCM TS Windows 7 x64 it will "hang" waiting to accept the unsigned driver (NOT during Apply drivers, but Sequence that runs setup.exe - I install ALL graphics drivers this way!)

Hello, I would love to ask for some help!
I've recently purchased the newer Dell XPS 13 9360 Non-touch (not the 2 in 1) and am having some trouble with using an external monitor. The screen (on the external monitor) keeps on flickering and has a very unstable connection.
I've searched and found that apparently lowering the power output of the WIFI network adapter can fix this problem.
The problem is that the current XPS's wifi adapter doesn't allow the power output to be changed. The previous fixes were geared towards intel wifi adapters.
The general power settings for the computers doesn't show wifi card power controls.

I have updated all the drivers for the computer including the wireless adapter. Still the options doesn't change.

Has anyone found a way to get a stable external monitor to work with the Killer Wireless Adapter cards?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
-JDed

Answer:XPS 13 9360 External Monitor Flicker with USB C - HDMI Adapter [Killer Wireless Adapter]

For what it's worth: For me (XPS 13 9360, QHD, i7, 16 GB, Killer WiFi), external screens are perfectly stable, even with wireless being on relatively high throughput load, albeit not high power (energy) load.
I am connecting both HDMI and DisplayPort displays, each with cheap native USB-C adapters (i.e. through Thunderbolt). I also have full success with a Dell DA200, through its built-in HDMI graphics adapter.

Hi,
I have Dell E7470 and I'm considering a motherboard replacement. The board has i7 CPU with Dell Part # VNKRJ . I wanted to ask If the new board with i7 CPU 6050 and Intel Iris graphics 540 (Dell part # YDW8F) will fit on my laptop ?

In addition, If I purchased an i5 board (Dell part # 3GMP2) , will I be able to replace the CPU with the one that I currently have on the old motherboard and get an i7 board ? I'm asking because the i5 board is cheaper than the i7 board.

Thank you

Answer:Dell E7470 - is it possible to get the new Intel 6050 CPU with Intel Iris graphics ?

While the boards should interchange, bear in mind:
Whatever board you buy has a CPU soldered to it - the CPUs cannot be replaced separately from the mainboard;  they are not removeable.
If the system is in warranty, replacing the mainboard voids the warranty.

I'm using a T430s and a mini dock plus series 3. This is the dock with the dual DVI, dual DisplayPort, 1x VGA. I do not use the laptop's built-in screen; just the 2 external monitors. Intel HD4000 graphic chip and Nvidia Optimus/ I previously had 2 20" monitors with a 1680x1050 resolution using DVI-to-DVI. They both worked fine. I upgraded to 2 24" monitors with a 1920x1200 resolution. The laptop is not recognizing the second monitor. I have tried:dual display port (dock side) to mini display port (monitor side): only 1 monitor recognizeddual dvi (dock side) to HDMI (monitor side): only 1 monitor recognizedI ruled out monitor and cable problems by swapping...each by itself works fine. Looking up specs, I believe this resolution should be supported by DP or DVI. Can anybody confirm that this is a supported config? Any ideas what is wrong? UPDATE - I did try 1 DP/mDP and 1 DVI/HDMI: this does work. However, its not an ideal solution because it would interfere with the monitors ports which I want to use for a second PC. UPDATE 2 - OK, now I am beyond aggrivated. I also have a support ticket w/ Lenovo where they suggested switching to Integrated Graphics only in the BIOS. I tried that, no luck. After changing that setting back, i tried to get my 1 DP / 1 DVI working, but now it would not recognize dual monitors. ??? After some testing, I'm finding that the -only- setup that works is the following: Dock DVI port 1 to Moni... Answer:Second monitor not detected: T430s with Mini Dock Plus Series 3 dual external monitor

Fixed; was a driver issue. Problem seems exclusive to a Dell u2415 on DP port 1 only of the dock or to the laptop's DP port (at least for the couple monitors I tried). It's possible it could affect other monitors. My starting point: 9.18.13.4535 / 9.17.10.2843 (Nvidia /  Intel) The latest driver from Lenovo is 9.18.13.4535 / 8.15.10.2725. I'm not sure how i have a slightly newer Intel, but that's what it was. I couldn't install the Lenovo driver. I also couldn't install a newer driver from Intel (10.18.10.4276). In both cases Windows or the Intel installer stopped me saying the mfr provided the drivers and that the installed version was up to date. I worked around by first rolling back the Intel driver. The manual (.zip) install of the latest intel driver worked. This immediately fixed the Dell u2415 on DP port 1 and laptop's built-in DP port.

Hello All,

I'm running a ASUS P8H67-V REV 3.0 mothboard which has a VGA and a DVI-D output. When I connect a second monitor w/ a vga to dvi-d adapter, it does not detect the monitor at all. I've tested the DVI-D port with a dvi to hdmi cable to my TV, at it works as soon as I hook that up. Below is the onboard graphics info. Any help would be much appreciated.

digitalrebel11, welcome to the Seven Forums.

You answered your own question, you just don't realize it,

Quote:
When I connect a second monitor w/ a vga to dvi-d adapter,

DVI-D is digital only, that is why it isn't being detected. Also the adapter will be VGA to DVI-I, which is for an analogue signal which is required for the VGA adapter to work.

Hi,
I installed a hard drive with a Vista 32bit home edition into a Dell Dimension 2350 A02 that originally had Windows XP Pro hard drive in it. The monitor displayed reasonable graphics with the XP hard drive, however now I can only get 16bit, 640 X 480 displayed on my monitor. Until I can upgrade to another system, I need a cheap fix for my problem. Any downloads or suggestions to cure my ills??
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hello Sam95 and welcome to Seven Forums.

If you think the installation of this graphic adapter is the cause of your problems than I think it would be wise to either take it away (run the uninstall program that came with the adapter ) or if that does not work, restore your system till a date before this installation.

Ok I'm running an old windows ME system and this is the graphics card that came with it - Intel(r) 82810 Graphics Controller [display adapter]. Today I was looking at a game and found it required a 36 MB graphics card and I'm not sure if this card meets that requirment so does anyone know?

Answer:Intel(r) 82810 Graphics Controller [display adapter]

The integrated graphics core of the Intel i810/i815 chipsets (what you are using) will only use up to a maximum of 11 MB of graphics memory in a gaming situation, according to Intel's specifications.

Looks like you need an upgrade.

My work laptop is a T460 Ultrabook Thinkpad. I have the compatible docking station. It's a pain in the backside just to get the silly thing to connect to another display while the lid is open ... but this thing WILL NOT do something that countless laptops have been able to do for over a decade: Connect to two monitors at the same time while on a docking station with the laptop lid closed -- ThinkPad Pro docking station in case it matters.. I'm successfully connecting to one monitor via the DiplayPort on the docking station. No matter what I try, I can't get another monitor to connect.  Here's what I've already tried: 1. Updated Chipset.2. Updated Bios.3. Updated Graphics Card Driver. 4. I've connected the second monitor to the DVI port on the docking station. 5. I've connected the second monitor to the laptop HDMI port. 6. I've tried multiple cables.7. Verified that the same setup works just fine on an older Lenovo laptop and older docking station.  And my amazing not-so-ultra laptop still gives me no option to connect to another monitor. When I go into the Intel Control Panel, there is nothing there even suggesting that Multiple Diplays are possible. I'm just not believing that Lenovo built a high end laptop that can't connect to two monitors at the same time while on a compatible docking station with the laptop lid closed. There's got to be a solution for this.

Hi there.Have an issue with my display adapter.Every time I boot my "Ideapad Z580" on, I cannot connect to any external displays without first having to update my display adapter in the device manager.  For some reason it seems to roll back to an earlier driver while either its shutting down or booting up.  I've deleted old driver files and it still has the same problem.  Whenever I try to connect to my tv, by either WIN+P combination or the Intel control panel, it cannot find my TV or any other Monitor I plug in.It's been like this for a year or so, never actually thought about writing on the forums about it.I use a larger TV for display output (bad eye sight) and it's just turned into more of a nuisance than anything.Any help would be great, if there's anyway I can provide more information just let me know!

Answer:Product recovery software for Intel graphics adapter

Hi there,

again,

I posted an answer on your question about graphics drivers. Did you already checked it?
If not, I will give an short explanation about recovery medias and then again a link where you can find the graphics driver software.

A recovery media is a packed image of the Windows installation on your harddisk. Which means you CANNOT extract any software out of it.
You can only recover your machine with it, and nothing more.

So we reach now the point where I give you the link (again) to find the graphics driver you need:

http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com/cgi-bin/ToshibaCSG/download_drivers_bios.jsp

So please (again) check the site, choose your model and download your drivers.

And please: don?t post the same question twice or more. It?s enough when you post one topic and just edit the topic to add more questions/content.
This keeps the questions clearly and everyhting overviewable...

I have a Dell XPS 13 (2016) with a Dell USB-C adapter. It will not detect my NEC LCD external monitor. I have tried a Dell USB-C adapter and a D-SUB cable to the monitor. I have also tried a Monoprice USB-C adapter with a Monoprice HDMI cable. Neither work. The monitor works fine with my Mac. I have told the computer to extend and duplicate the display using the Windows-P command. I have tried to update the driver for the monitor (I have NEC's driver), but it will not install because the monitor is not detected. Any help you can offer will be greatly appreciated.

Answer:NEC external monitor not detected

Have you tried restarting your computer (restart option from the power icon) with the USB adapter disconnected. Wait until the computer boots up and is stable, then connect the adapter without the monitor connected to it. Do you hear the sound that indicates a USB has been connected? Then look in device manager (right click on the start icon and device manager will be one of the options) and are there any devices with exclamation points or unknown devices?

If all that looks normal, then connect the monitor.

Also, with the adapter connected, look in device manager under display adapters. If you see Microsoft basic display listed, right click on it and attempt to update the driver while connected to the internet.

Hi,
I have a Lenovo laptop Yoga 2 11. I was running windows 8 with an external HDMI monitor in the office.
When I upgraded to Windows 10, I plug and unplug the external monitor and it is not detected by the operating system, only one display is shown- However if I run the computer with the lid closed the external monitor gets the signal. Strange that always shows only one display. I do not know how to show the image in both screens (if possible!), so I can be looking at the laptop screen and at the same time project to a large television for presentations, since the external monitor seems not to be shown by Windows 10.

Any help? Is a windows 10 bug and will be a patch??

Regards,

Martin

I recently purchased 15'' Y700. It has Intel 530 HD and NVIDIA 960M. Operating system is windows 10 (64 bit) Laptop has not been able to detect external monitor connected to it via HDMI to DVI (Monitor) cable. I have tried updating drivers for both Intel and NVidia but it has not worked. Any help on this matter is greatly appreciated. Thanks,Saurabh

Answer:Y700 - 15 ISK External Monitor not detected

Hi Saurabh,

Welcome to the Lenovo community!

From your findings, it does look like there's a problem with the HDMI port or with the HDMI cable.
 Things that you can try:

Try the HDMI cable on another PC and ensure its firmly connected to rule it out as the possible culprit.
Consider updating the Intel HD Graphics from the Intel Websiteand the Nvidia graphics from the Nvidia Website.

If the problem remains, last thing that you can do is to press the OneKey Recovery button to restore the unit to factory settings (ensure you backup important files). If problem remains after that then it's definitely a problem with the port

Let us know how you get on.

Hello guys,
I have laptop Dell Inspiron 15 7500 series. I have my external monitor (BenQ GL225) connected via DVI -> hdmi cabel, everything was just fine till today. Today I connected my notebook to new TV via hdmi cabel (it worked like charm) but when I tried to plug again my monitor it didnt work. Just "No Signal Detected" shows up on monitor screen. I also installed some new dell drivers today, but I have already restarted my laptop and it was working (it was b4 trying out TV) so I am not sure if it might be a problem. I tried monitor on different PC and it worked. Thanks for any help guys!

I have a Dell XPS 13 laptop running Windows 10. I have just purchased a Dell U2515H monitor which I am waiting for delivery for as we speak. I believe the monitor has quiet a few inputs however I am not 100% sure which lead to get to connect them both and which port I use on the Dell Laptop. Looking on the left hand side of my laptop there is a port with a lightning sign next to it, is that called Thunderbolt? and is that my monitor/display port? and what lead do I need? it looks like some sort of micro socket!

Hi,
I'm having a new issue with the laptop, which seems to be happening in the last few weeks.
The only change that was made of consequence was an update to BIOS A07 for a fedora dual boot. Incidentally I have tried the devices on the Fedora OS on the same laptop and they are detected no problem, also, both HDD's have been tested on another PC which works correctly and the USB ports on the XPS laptop are also functioning since smaller USB devices are being detected correctly.
Both devices are being picked up in the system tray and the drivers are showing in device manager yet they are not being picked up by the file system.
Any ideas are appreciated !

EDIT: One device is USB 2.0 another is USB 3.0, troubleshooting using windows states that USB 2.0 devices will not work correctly yet the same issue occurs with the 3.0 device.

Last night my wireless stopped working. Today I set out to figure out the problem and I have no solution. My laptop is a Dell Inspiron 6000 using the Intel PRO Wireless 2200BG. I've unistalled, reinstalled, updated the drivers, done a system restore to a month ago and nothing is working. I think it might be a virus because I also cannot connect via LAN. Its like I'm banned from internet usage. It all may be connected to my downloading some shareware yesterday. I was looking for a VOB converter and I downloaded two different ones that didn't work and immediately removed them from my computer. My internet was still working at that point but after I shut down that was the last time my internet was accessible. The messages I get are: adapter state not found in registry. I've checked that its one with the FN + F2 and the little "wifi" is glowing. Also, weird messages keep flashing on my computer screen too fast for me to read them but I can see there is a lot of text involved. I don't know if this is repairable. I thought I had virus protection but apparently I didn't notice that my Zone Alarm was running without virus protection. AUGhadfak!!!! If anyone can help me, I'm desperate. I'll have to go between this PC and my work PC to figure this problem out though. I went to Best Buy and repurchased the entire Zone Alarm Suite (they didn't have just the virus protection) and it won't let me install it because it says I have ... Read more

I've tried 3 now.
All work OK first day.
Next day I get a few flickers where the display stops for a second.
Nothing to worry about. I can live with.
Next day, gets worse. It sucks, but I can live with and don't want to go to the bother of returning.
Next day worse.
Next day worser.
Next day I'm shouting and yelling and trying no to swear.

First one I bought: cheap one - fairly well reviewed.
Next one: one of the more expensive ones. Same thing happened.
Current one (one of the more expensive ones, different make): it's started. I know where it's going.

I have updated my BIOS and anything I can find on my HP laptop.
I use the latest drivers from the manufacturer.
This just sucks!

I desperately need 3 displays!
I have an existing one from the HDMI port.

Is there one particular make that is recommened?

All bought from Amazon.

Thanks.

My old dell laptop L502x is a bit quirky and caused me to buy a desktop, however, i think it is still saveable. when i have it display to an external monitor via hdmi, it works 100% with no problems. however, when i use the monitor that is physically attached to the laptop, i will get a " A clock interrupt was not received on a secondary processor" BSOD. from what i've gathered over numerous crashes, i believe its a problem with the integrated graphics in the processor, since they are not used when outputting via hdmi. i could be wrong tho, any help is greatly appreciated.

Answer:Dell Laptop external monitor = OK, attached monitor = BSOD

Hello,

I've just purchased Tecra M5 to use it with my external NEC monitor. However, whichever setting I try I get no picture on that monitor. The LED on the monitor indicates that it gets signal from the laptop but the monitor stays pitch black. The monitor obviously works fine, I've just disconnected it from another laptop.

I tried all possible settings in the nVidia control panel but no success. I also changed "Power On Display" in BIOS to "LCD + Analog RGB" but no luck either.

I have BIOS v.3.70 and graphic adapter drivers v.7.15.

Can anyone help?

Thanks,
Mike

P.S. When I press Fn + F5 I have no options to choose from, unlike with other Fn + ... combinations. I don't know wheter there should be any but maybe it is worth mentioning.

Also when I select "Only use one display" from the nVidia control panel and select my NEC monitor from the list, the monitor lights up and the LED changes to green, but the display is still black. As I cannot accept the changes the output switches back to the laptop display after several seconds.

Answer:Tecra M5 - External monitor detected but no picture

Hello

Have you tried another monitor on the notebook? Maybe it?s a compatibility issue between the notebook and monitor.
Furthermore you should try another cable.
Check this!!

What OS do you use? For the FN+F5 key combination you need on Windows 2000 and XP the Hotkey Utilities because otherwise you can?t use this key combination.
For Vista you need the Toshiba Value Added Package.

I have a Hp g60 235dx notebook which came with windows vista and upgraded to windows 10. The screen went bad so I had it hooked up to a Dell  d2015hf external monitor through a VGA cable. Everything was working fine until few days back. It would not let me connect to the internet at all. The wifi slide button automatically jumps to "Off" by itself no matter how much I try to slide to "On". I assumed it must be the Windows 10 update which must have screwed the drivers, so I ran Driver pack solution and installed all the recommended drivers. It installed bunch of stuffs and stopped. At the bottom it was written, you must restart the computer . So I thought it as done and restarted the computer. Now, it does not detect the external monitor at all. I tried to do a hard reset and the HP logo came on the laptop screen. After some time it went blank. I can see the power light is on and it makes some sound. I guess the laptop is working, but since the screen has gone bad and the external monitor is not being detected, I don't know what i should do. Is it the problem with the external monitor or the vga cable? Is there anything i can do about this problem? your help will be much appreciated. Thank you in advance and have a nice day

Answer:External monitor not detected after driver update

Hi  @babiola, Welcome to the HP Forums! I see that your HP G60-235DX Notebook is having an issue with the External Monitor. You could try using the Windows Update Troubleshooting tool to fix any updates that have not come through for Windows. This is a download that will run a check on your system and usually repair it. Please restart the Notebook twice to make sure all update have been completed!  Please be aware that HP does not guarantee Windows 10 drivers will be available from Windows Update. Please get back to me how this goes. You can say thanks for trying to help by clicking the Thumbs Up below! Thanks.

Hey everyone, it's been a long time since I've had to ask anything on these forums, but I'm glad they're still here when I need them! I've done some looking into the problem, and it seems like there aren't many resources on my problem.

I'm trying to connect my television to my laptop, via an SVideo connection. The problem is, my graphics card does not, and CAN NOT, have its factory/updated drivers installed. The graphics card is currently being run under "Standard VGA graphics adapter" drivers.

(The reason I can't put drivers on the card is because it's fried. I'm suffering from a burnt-out, defective NVidia GeForce 8600M GS, like many other people, and I'm mired down in court documents that I'll be using against HP in small claims court.)

Are there another set of drivers I could try that would allow my laptop to use an external display?
Is there a way to set up an external monitor under standard VGA graphics adapter drivers?

I was encountering this problem last week:
http://www.sevenforums.com/general-d...all-files.html

I did a clean reinstall and was sort-of able to get the laptop to boot to normal mode. I say "sort-of" because it still has a couple of issues:
1) After the clean install, Windows update downloaded about 150 updates. After rebooting, I ran into the same issue as before - unable to boot into normal mode. I did another clean reinstall and installed the Windows updates 1 by 1 and found that installing the Intel Graphics adapter WDDM1.1, Graphics adapter WDDM1.2 - Intel HD Graphics 4000 was causing the problem. If I don't install this update, I don't have the file corruption issue.

2) The other problem is that I can't get my laptop to display on an external display. The Win + P keys don't bring up the display selection dialog. I installed the above-mentioned Intel graphics update and the Win + P keys were working now - but now the laptop goes into safe mode within 10-20 seconds of booting up - same as the original problem. So now I can't display on an external monitor unless I install the Intel driver but the driver corrupts the system files and I run into the original problem.

3) The last issue is that the 'space' key on the laptop is acting oddly - hitting the space key almost always resets the cursor pointer a few words before where it's supposed to be, or the cursor just disappears. This didn't happen prior to the file corruption so I'm wondering if this is ... Read more

My Dell Inspiron 15 3537-0721 has a single combo jack for both input and ouput audio and Im running Windows 8.1. I have a Turtle Beach Recon 50 Headset with a Microphone. When I plug in the headset the audio immediately switches over the headset and it works perfectly, but it does not even detect the mic input. All it detects is the built in microphone (Which doesnt work btw, Im not sure if this might be related). I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling all the drivers. Ive tried switching between the stock drivers, over to realtek and IDT drivers and then uninstalling everything and reinstalling the stock drivers again. Nothing seems to work, I cant even get the mic to be detected. Please let me know if there is any info Ive left out and I will gladly post it

Hi, all, I have a Dell XPS 15 laptop and recently bought a Asus MB169B external USB monitor.  When I plug the monitor in, the laptop monitor (not the external monitor) flickers about every half second.  If I unplug it, it stops.  I upgraded my video driver to no avail.
Is it simply a power supply issue (the external monitor  does not have a power cord)?  Anything I can do?  It does it even if I have the laptop plugged in and charging.
*something interesting - I just discovered if I duplicate the display and not extend the flickering goes away...but that kind of defeats the point of a dual monitor for me.
Thanks.

Hey guys. I recently bought an Acer Travelmate 5740. I didn't realise how bad the 4500MHD graphics were and I have heard about external graphics cards and 'switchable graphics'.

I did a few googles but obviously I am searching the wrong stuff. I have a chipset that allows switchable graphics, so is there a way of upgrading my graphics to something better? I don't mind spending a bit of money to get a lot more bang for my buck and I have heard ATI has external graphics that sync with internal ones or something.

Would I be able to upgrade this card (or remove it for a better one) could I pay a professional to do that for me, and where would I buy the new GPU?

Thanks for helping.

Here is an article on basically what "switchable" Graphics in Laptops is all about. Nvidia automates switchable mobile graphics with Optimus - TechSpot News

I realize this is about Nvidia but it also should apply with any combination of GPU's.

No not really since the GPU chips are soldered into your motherboard. So even if you could find someone capable of removing the 4500MHD chip he would also need to find and purchase a higher quality GPU chip that most likely wouldn't be able to simply be re-soldered into the old chips socket, then their could be all kinds of compatibility issues I would think.
Basically your stuck with what you have.

I have only been able to find this setup that allows for the use of a full size PCI-e graphics card.
http://www.magma.com/expressbox1.asp

The only video I could find on how it is setup http://www.externalgraphicscard.com/

This is really not a solution for your issue since this requires a laptop with a PCMCIA port, the MagmaBox1, additional LCD and a full size better graphic's card.

Also below this thread you'll see other threads on your graphics chip and also switchable graphics information.
Hope this helps answer some of your questions and ... Read more

I have a 3 month old Lenovo Edge 2 1580. The video card is listed as Intel(R) HD Graphics 520, which is shown to be up to date and working properly. However, my computer also has the Nvidia Geforce card, so I'm not sure which is supposed to be using.  When I try to connect an external monitor, the laptop does not detect it. I've tryied multiple monitors using just HDMI or VGA-to-HDMI. Both setups worked fine for the past few months, but today, no configuration will work. Both monitors are working just fine when connected to my other laptop with the same cables. It has to be something internal to the laptop.  This happened once before, and I was able to fix it by changing the settings of the graphics card (I think). I can't remember what I did, but it involved chaning something in my laptop.  Any leads?
