Where can I get Service Pack 1 (NOT 1a)

Question: Where can I get Service Pack 1 (NOT 1a)

Anyone have a link to a download for XP Service Pack 1 instead of 1a?

Preferred Solution: Where can I get Service Pack 1 (NOT 1a)

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Just bought new never used factory fresh PC Acer AXC-605-UR29
Windows 7 Service Pack 1 manufacrtured this year,
I checked for latest updates and sure enough Service Pack 1 shows up in updates

Windows 7 Service Pack 1 for x64-based Systems (KB976932)

Download size: 9.1 MB

You may need to restart your computer for this update to take effect.

Update type: Important

Windows 7 Service Pack 1 is a recommended collection of updates and improvements to Windows that are combined into a single installable update. The service pack can help make your computer safer and more reliable. A typical installation will take about 30 minutes to complete, and you will have to restart your computer about halfway through the process.

This is a brand new PC that was loaded with factory Windows 7 SP1 so what is going on here?
Can I simply ignore the update? My only concern is that somehow MS updates will is considering
Windows 7 outdated and that I will receive no more updates since the Service Pack 1 is showing up
in the update section. How the heck is the possible with a factory image. One other thing that might help is that before I could check for any new updates Windows said I required a update to windows update. I
Did this update before finding the lastest updates. Also many updates are post cut off date for Windows 7 SP 0 so it did show updates until December 2014, I guess I will find out it Windows will continue to supply new updates this coming Tuesday...

Just wondered if anyone else has had the same issue when they tried to update Windows Vista SP1 to SP2. The reason I was trying to update is to update to Internet Explorer 9 for 6 as its my wifes laptop that she very rarely uses. I thought it would be quite easy to do but tried several times and still no joy.
The message that comes up is ERRORNOTFOUND(0x80070490)which I'm aware means Windows cannot search for updates.
I have checked for updates and the following is trying to update but also fails : Windows Search 4.0 for Windows Vista (KB940157)
The laptop is an Acer Aspire 5710 running Vista SP1 32 bit
Finally I have no repair disc as this is already installed so I tried a reboot, F8 and repair and that also failed....
Any suggestion what to try next??
Many thanks

Answer:Vista will not update from Service Pack 1 to Service Pack 2

Hi,

To recreate the error, I suggest we try these steps to reinstall
SP2.

Step 1: Run the System Update Readiness Tool

Hi,
I bought my cpu in June of 08. I have been having problems. I'm trying to fix them one by one. I was wondering if I had the correct Service Packs. Under Windows Updates I can see them all going back to when I bought it. It shows 1 service pack update, KB948465 on 9/19/09. It does not show a 2nd. Under Windows Edition in my System (Control Panel) it shows Windows Home Premium and Service Pack 2.

Can I forget about 1 or do I need it? Hopefully Service Pack 2 includes all that was in SP1 and more! Thanks in advance for your help.

When the user tries to login into their laptop whether cabled into our domain network or not, they receive a message "there are currently no logon servers available to service this request".  but if cabled into the network and they wait 5 minutes, they
are able to sign in without issue but it takes 2 to 3 minutes to load the page.  I signed into the laptop with my domain admin account and received the same message as the user, but when we tried cabled in (5 minutes later), i was able to sign in without
issue.  The troubleshooting steps:
1.  Updated the network driver today (still receiving same result)
2.  Re-added the computer to the domain today (still receiving same result)
3.  the event viewer is showing the 5719 NETLOGON message and also 1129 (but the user has been receiving this for a number of months)
4.  The only thing we haven't tried is creating a new user profile but the only reason I don't see that working is because if its happening with my domain admin account it can't be a profile issue.

Any ideas of what could be causing this and is there a fix for it?  I do see there is a hotfix but wasn't sure if we should run it or not.

My neighbour has given me his laptop to sort out and I have discovered it is refusing to do any windows updates. It says that the windows update service is not running so cannot update. I have checked as per instructions on the net that the service is set correctly and it seems to be. Does anyone have any idea as to what is causing this. I did find trojan viruses and malware on it and I have got rid of all of that i think.

Hello I'm new here...

I know enough about IT to be dangerous.lol I used to be a help desk tech support for about 10 years
but after being laid off 3 years ago I am rusty. As the saying goes "use it ot lose it" and I lost it... lol

ANyway I have an old Gateway laptop (given to me by someone who was going to throw it out and don't have the CD that came with it) I had Windows Mellennium on it , I installed XP on it instead.I don't think I uninstalled ME as I figured XP would just replace. This an old version that my "ex-husband" had who was an IT guy. This CD did not have any service packs loaded on it and I'm trying to figure out how to load all of there service packs or determine if it's even worth it... I went to MS website to download them and had trouble loading 1A, it said my system could not support it? Mmmm Don't know if there is something fishy about the cd or what... It installed fine and it accepted the product key and I can hit the web with it (via dial up) too. No error messages at this time.

Hi folks,
Can someone please advise which group I need to post this thread to (or even better help me out with a solution):
Firstly, I note all the guidance re the KB936181 installation issue (ie it keeps requesting an install every freakin day).
I've followed that guidance and now have a new beast to deal with. I'm now getting the - please install Microsoft XML Core Services 4.0 Service Pack
2 (KB941833) every time I boot up/log on.
Yes - it's installed, several times, and yes I've turned off auto download, but please help me out with an easy step by step guide to resolving this issue once and for all. I followed the Microsoft fix, did the command prompt deal, go several errors like people report i.e. access denied etc and now the KB936181 doesn't pop up, but this new bloody update does.
Is Microsoft going to offer a patch or update that will resolve this mess? It's a bit unrealistic to ask non tech people to play around with deleting files from the System directory and reinstalling stuff in a particular order that has taken years to accumulate in order to fix their problem.
I would really appreciate an EASY guide that puts this to bed. I understand many of you will probably think - 'shut up and get an apple you loser', but I'm keen to stick with Windows for the time being.
I run Vista Home Premium.
Cheers

which is better to use on a gaming PC SP1 or SP2 for the best performance.

Specs.

OS: Windows XP Home Edition - to be XP Pro. in December
Ram: 256MB
Hard Drive: 80GB (Western Digital)
Processor: Intel Celeron 1.30GHz/L2 Cache 256KB
Sound Card: Creative Sound Blaster Live 24-Bit
Video Card: NVidia GeForce 2MX/MX400

Answer:using Service Pack 1 or Service 2 for gaming PC

Service Packs are irrelvent to performance... Your RAM needs to be at minimum for gaming at 1Gb. Also you have a Celeron, which are not that great.

But for problems stick with SP1 for now. If you are going to do a clean install with Windows XP Professional, put SP2 on before installing anything else.

I was wondering if the issue of crashes/endless reboots had been resolved with service pack 3 and AMD machines.I've got a AMD 64 Compaq presario and have conintually opting not to install the pack. This is getting a little tedious as XP wants to install it all the time. Is it safe to install now or does it need a patch?

I don't believe all AMD machines are affected.I certainly am as I have an AMD PC with Asus A8N32-SLI Deluxe motherboard.I had the endless reboot problem,so have not bothered to try and install it again and have turned off automatic updates so I am not continually nagged. It is also necessary to tun off the nagging shield notification.I update my machine once a week manually. It works for me.

How long should it take to down load & install SP3. The down load seemed to go OK, and install started, the progress bar got to about 3/4 of it's travel and the dialogue stated "Running Installed Processes" nothing happened and no HD access for about 30 min. I gave it a little longer but still no further progress. I had to do a roll back which took a little over an hour but every thing now seems OK. Should I have waited longer.

Answer:XP Service Pack 3

Difficult to say without knowing your PC spec, but Service pack 3 does take a while to install. I also think it's one update where it's a good idea to follow the instructions and deactivate everything else before running it. I suspect most of us have got used to plowing on regardless during software installations, but SP3 can bite you if the installation doesn't run smoothly so take the suggested precautions and it should be OK.

Question: XP Service Pack 2

Hi There,

I downloaded SP2 last night through Windows Update. When I checked my computer this morning everything seemed OK with Windows stating that a firewall had been installed etcetera. I disabled the firewall since I was running a Norton firewall. I then went into Windows to check my e-mails and I was confronted with nothing. My monitor was blank. I managed to raise the task manager (ctr-alt - del) and browsed a few new tasks and they were all there.

So, I can raise all my programs using this method, but can't get into the windows start system from the screen or use any short cuts. Can anyone help please?

Question: Service Pack 1

As I said in a previous post, I recently had to reinstall Windows, and thus for the past couple of days, I have been updating Windows and reinstalling my old programs.

As you can probably guess from the title, Windows Update isn't offering me Service Pack 1. I've seen the Microsoft KB article giving the different reasons why this may be (unsupported drivers/software, prequisites not installed, etc.), and as far as I can tell, none of them apply to me. What else can I do?

Also, I am not being offered any more updates - I have installed all important and recommended updates, and most of the optionals as well.

Everything but this is working fine.

Question: Service Pack 2:

Last night I got informed by my Windows Automatic Update that Service Pack 2 was ready to download. I believe I clicked on "yes" or "ok" or whatever the positive response was but so far, nothing has happened. I believe that I read in PC World that it takes a long time for this patch to download but I wonder if I clicked on the right one. I went to the Windows Download site but was told that my Automatic Updates was operating. Has anyone downloaded/tried to download Service Pack 2, and if so, did it take hours/days to download? Thanks.

Question: Service pack 1a

I have XP Home. Just got the pc last month. When trying to use a chat function and streaming stock trading program(uses Java)(neither of these are on my pc; they're downloaded when I try to use them), a brief Java virtual machine downloads and then XP tells me I need an updated MS Virtual Machine. {Trying to use the streaming quotes causes the pc to lockup}. This takes me to an update scan which tells me I don't need any updates. Yet trying to use the items mentioned before, it still says I need the MS V M update. After much searching, I found a download link for the 1a service pack , but when I click it, it takes me back to the Update Scan which says I don't need the update. The chat function and streaming quotes still won't work. Merry-go-rounds are for the amusement parks, but this isn't very amusing. Is there a way I can get around the scan and run the service pack download or otherwise resolve this? Thank you for your help.

Question: NT Service pack 6a

Hello all,

Is it safe to delete the backup files created when installing service pack 6a for winNT server ($ntservicepackuninstall$ under the c:\winnt directory)through windows explorer, or is there a certain way it has to be removed?

the reason i ask is because we are fast running out of space on the c drive which has degraded system performance a hell of a lot!
i could gain an extra 50 meg by getting rid of this.

also, are there any folders within the winnt directory that do not need to be there?

Any help would be great

cheers.

Answer:NT Service pack 6a

The only issue with deleting those files is that you then can't revert to the previous service pack level. You also orphan an Uninstall in Add/Remove Programs refering to service pack 6. That can be removed in the registry, just use regedit and search for the uninstall string as it appears in Add/Remove Programs.

How do i uninstall service pack 2? can someone please help me. I have Ares, P2P program and SP2 blocks me from downloading and i want sp2 gone! Sp2 came with my computer, i dont see anyhthing in add remove programs about sp2. Id appreciate all the help i can get. Thanks.... if i do uninstall it, if i can, will it crash my pc?

Answer:service pack 2

Are you sure that it's SP2 that stops you from downloading? Maybe it's just the Windows firewall that comes with SP2. If so, try disabling it and see if that works. I'm pretty sure there is a way to uninstall SP2 anyways though. Check under Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs and look there for SP2. And no, uninstalling SP2 will most likely not cause your PC to crash although that is always a possibility.

First off I wouldn't listen to Microsofts recommendations. Of course they want you to download SP2, lol.

Check your page file and see how much you have put towards it. Virtual memory doesn't usually just mess up a computer. You can actually do completely without Vmemory if you wanted to.

Answer:Service pack cd?

The XP installation CD shipped after Service Pack 1 came out contain SP1 and are usually designated "Windows XP Home Edition Service Pack 1." In other words, the dialog box is asking you to put your WinXP CD in the CD drive so it can extract the files it needs to repair whatever it thinks the problem is.

Edit: Oh...and yes, you can get SP1 on a CD from Microsoft; offered for those on a slow connection not willing to wait the hours and hours it takes to download it.

If I'm not mistaken, you should find a file named xpsp1_en_x86.exe on your hard drive.

That's XP SP1, burn it to a CD and you should be fine.
