Internet Explorer

Question: Internet Explorer

Whenever I open a new IE window, windows plays the *beep* sound. I do not like this, is there any way to change it?

Relevance 100%
Preferred Solution: Internet Explorer

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Internet Explorer

Try, control panel > sounds and audio devices > Sounds tab, and find the appropriate sound and remove it.

Hey,
we are currently facing a problem with our SharePoint Site crashing the Internet Explorer 10. We have no idea which custom code triggers this crash and why.

We have no Problem with IE9, IE11, Chrome or FireFox.If we change the tab while loading the page in the IE10 and switch back, everything works fine.It crashes on all Windows 7 Systems tested so far. Seems to be no Policy problem. All Addons disabled, same problemCleared cached Data, same problem
Any idea how to debug this issue?
With kind regards!

Hi, i am new at this, so bear with me lol

We have just moved our XP computer into the living room, and connected it to a 58kb dial-up connection. We installed AVG 8 and everything was running fine

Now we've installed Windows Live OneCare Family safety on the machine so we can monitor my borther and sisters internet usage.

Now, the computer runs extremely slowely, Windows Explorer continually crashes, meaning we have great difficulty opening My Documents, and My Computer or anything that requires Explorer to open

As well as this, now the internet is majorly slow... even for bloomin dial-up, we used to get at least 9kbps, but now its shot down to between 2.5 and 1.5 kbps

AVG is now continuously scanning... even outside of scheduled scans, and constantly wants to update :S

And finally, i have now noticed that small files i dont use very frequently have begun to dissapear from the system!!! music files, images, word docs etc.

We have tried defragging it, scandisk, using AdAware SE Personal 2005, AVG Scans, and they all come up with negligeable results.

As well as this, now the pc wont install files for Trend Micro Online scans to run... so we cant even work it out that way :S

I have a suspicion this could be something to do with OneCare, or Multiple Viruses in the system that have somehow hidden themselves from AVG

PLEASE PLEASE HELP!!!

I am using internet Explorer 11 to access the www.nemsis.org site and when I go to access http://www.nemsis.org/media/CustomElementLibrary/ .

I get the error message below:

I can use Chrome just fine to access the page. I have a coworker who can access just it just fine and he is using Internet Explorer 11 and was also able to access on Firefox. Is there something I am missing to access it? The page should display a map.

Thank you in advanced.

Hi.. I don't know if this is the right section, please correct me if it's wrong. Here is the problem:

My Internet Explorer 7 gives the error: "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage". I cannot complete the troubleshooting. It states that there might be a problem with my firewall settings. But my Firefox works perfectly on this computer. I have completed all the steps given in this link. However, it didn't work. I cannot run MSN right now because of this. And this is not a problem that developed recently, on this computer I have never managed to run Internet Explorer.

And another point to mention: Whenever I try to visit a site via IE7, before giving "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage" error, on the status-bar I see a warning for a second such that a "dns error" or something.

I have also searched this forum for this, I have found some posts consisting HJT logs but could not reached a solution for my problem. Could you please help? Thank you.

I'm on a fresh install Win10Home64Bit, 1709.16299.125. This occurs the instant I get to the desktop after installation and forever after. Right clicking on an internet shortcut (.URL) in file explorer or on desktop causes explorer to hang and occasionally crash. Occasionally, left clicking or drag selecting causes it, but it is less common. SFC /scannow, chkdsk /scan and dism /online /cleanup-image /(checkhealth, scanhealth, restorehealth, StartComponentCleanup, AnalyzeComponentStore) all report no problems.

So after a lot of googling and trying to troubleshooting everything I possibly could I finally stumbled upon ShellExView. If I disable the "Internet Shortcut" extension name, 6 others also disable. They are Context Menu, Icon Handler, InfoTip Handler, Property Handler, Property Sheet, Shell Link (ANSI), and Shell Link (Unicode). Version # of Internet Explorer is 11.00.15299.15 (WinBuild.160101.0800). File name for these is ieframe.dll.

I have no idea where to go from here, but basically all internet shortcuts do not currently work for me which is quite annoying and any help would be appreciated. If you need more info, I'll definitely answer the best I can.

Answer:Internet Shortcut - Internet Explorer .URL causes explorer crash/hang

If the URL is causing the system to crash, stop using it. Just paste a Shortcut or bookmark to the Home or save to a folder for those bookmarks you may come back to later. It also depends on what web browser that you are using.

After last week's pwn2own and pwnium contests, browser security is, once more, a hot topic. The existence of flaws in browsers is nowadays taken for granted: what security researchers are most interested in is the mitigation techniques browsers use to try to render those flaws harmless. Microsoft published a recent blog post discussing some of the new mitigation techniques that will be used in Internet Explorer 10.

The post first addresses existing anti-exploitation measures already used by Internet Explorer. These are a mix of compile-time techniques?Microsoft's compiler injects code to detect some buffer overflows, for example?and runtime techniques?such as the "Data Execution Prevention" that makes it harder to exploit buffer overflows.Click to expand...

When I connect to my enterprises network, for some reason it downgraded my version of Internet Explorer 11 to Internet Explorer 7. It doesn't do this on my home network or on any other network I have connected to, only my enterprises network.
I have contacted my ICT department to see if they can solve this issue, and they don't know how to fix this issue.
I used the website https://supportdetails.com to check the details of my browser and what other websites detect it as, and it detects it as Internet Explorer 7 for some strange reason. When I check the actual version of Internet Explorer
by going to the Tools button and then About Internet Explorer, it says I am using Internet Explorer 11.0.9600.18763.
I am running Windows RT 8.1 which might be the reason as to why other websites/services detect my browser as IE 7, as other devices such as the Surface Pro 3, iPad and other laptops all work fine.
If there is a way to make my device be detected as Internet Explorer 11 and not 7, that would be great.

Regards, Mr Kaos

Ive used tools like ad-aware and registry mechanic, tune up utilities, etc etc. But still no improvement. It used to be just fine, until I installed some pay-for-viewing add program. I have uninstalled it since then, but the slowness remains. And the processor is hogged, at the highest level, even though i killed many a startup processes.

Hello everyone and thank you for participating in this wonderful site.

My computer is a Pentium 4, 2.80 GHz, Running Windows XP Proffessional Version 2002 Service Pack 2.
The problem I'm writing about has been there for about a year. All in all it's the same prolem ever since, but every once in a while some detail changes, like a new error message.
Every about 5-15 minutes the Start Menu Taskbar and the desktop icons disappear (Explorer crushes). Most of the times they reappear shortly after, but sometimes they don't, and then I use task manager to run explorer and then they reappear. Yet, sometimes the computer stucks altogether, and I have to restart. In addition to that, many popups open when I surfe the web using Internet Explorer. The popup changes every few days, but in between it's always the same one.
Another point is that while the crushing of explorer can occur anytime, it most often occurs while I open or close Internet Explorer windows.

Sometimes I get an error message, and as I said, they change from time to time. But still, here are 2:

rundll32.exe - Application Error

The instruction at "0x74725956" referenced memory at "0x00a10004". The memory could not be "read".

Hi,

The 'click' sound I used to hear is no more when I navigate the window explorer/ internet explorer (IE8).

I done scanning with Malwarebyte, SuperAnti Spyware, AVAST all showing no infection. Had done the Glary Utility and Ccleaner cleaning, still there is no 'click' sound as it used to be.

I found out that the speaker icon next to Start Navigation in Sound And Audio Device Properties is missing. It doesn't show up no matter how I applied a sound for it either on a new scheme or window default scheme.

I have read the thread on http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=142308 and follow instruction on http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthr...n+sound+events, whereby I go to registry HKEY_CURRENT_USER and delete the Default value on the right hand side, then reboot. Issue still not solved.

I noticed that in the HKEY_CURRENT_USER \ AppEvent \ Scheme \ Apps \ Explorer \ Navigating \ .Default showing on the right with data value = C:\WINDOWS\media\Windows Navigation Start.wav

In the HKEY_USER \ .Default \ AppEvent \ Scheme \ Apps \ Explorer \ Navigating \ .Current and .Default folder both showing on the right with data value = %SystemRoot%\media\Windows XP Start.wav

Are the two registry correct?

Hope you can help me. Thank you.

Dear Tech guys,
I badly need your support. Day before yesterday (01-Aug-06) night I upgraded the yahoo toolbar and used their norton anti spy to scan. Then I shut down the system and started to work the next day. Every thing is perfectly ok except for one thing. In Windows Explorer, on any folder or drive if I double click or open I get a crash. If I do explore then there is no problem.

Below is the dialog that comes whenever we double click or open (for eg: on C:\ or any folder in the left side pane of the windows explorer. If I just keep expanding the + of the tree no problem, only on clicking the item to open the following error occurs.)

Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library

program: C:\Windows\Explorer.exe

This Application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way.
Please contact the application's support team for more information.

I am running on Windows XP SP 2. I dont have google toolbar. I have yahoo tool bar installed. I have tried uninstalling it and installing it again and other combinations as well.

I have also tried sfc /scannow as well. It did not work.

It doesnt look like any adware or spyware (yahoo's norton spyware had done a complete run and no problems in the system as reported by them).

What should I do now to get back to normal operation of windows explorer.

Thanks and Regards,
Naga Kumar S

Answer:Windows Explorer Runtime Error (not related to Internet Explorer)

I would un-install the Yahoo Toolbar and then put Google Toolbar in, Then I would try to download .NET framework 2.0

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...6b-356b-4a2c-857c-e62f50ae9a55&displaylang=en

and install it. If it tells you that you already have it re-install it anyway.

SO for about a month now i have been having trouble with my computer. None of the Antirus or AD remover programs can find the problem.

While using the internet, a new window pops up displaying sometimes nothing, somethimes a search engine, sometimes something called reditty.com... And when it loads it causes Internet Explorer to crash.

Also, a strange dll. file shows up in MSCONFIG startup programs, if i click for it not to show up on next load up, then a new dll file replaces it... Also, Rundll shows up in task manager. Sometimes twice... with no programs or windows open....

My hijack this log is as follows.. SOMEBODY PLEASE HELP ME!!! im hurting here.

Hello, I really hope one of you can help...

My desktop PC has suddenly developed a niggling little problem that means it is all but useless now. When opening most programs, IE, Windows Explorer and Opera the screen gets caught in a juddering motion that seems to act like the software is switching between Restore, Full Screen and Maximize functions, at the rate of about 6 switches a second. As you can probably imagine, this means the computer is more or less useless, and it's getting very frustrating. I've called the shop where we bought it, and got the usual "It's not our problem, try system restore, or restore factory settings". Tried system restore about 3 days ago, and no matter where I try to restore to it's having none of it, and then I got stop in a lovely "Packard Bell recovery program (which includes the system restore program)" loop, that stops actually being able to boot into Windows as it goes on a restarting loop, again, and again and again, until all of a sudden it'll boot. For this reason, System Restore is now switched off so I can continue getting into Windows. Programs not affected are Media Player, Photoshop, Outlook and RealPlayer plus others.

I assume this is a software issue, but I would really like to be able to sort this without having to wipe the whole computer.... Please can anybody help!

About a week ago, I turned on my laptop to find that Internet Explorer was freezing and crashing. When it crashed, I wouldn't get the normal Windows error reporting message, but instead Windows Explorer froze and I was forced to restart. When I restarted -- stupidly, more than 10 times in 2 hours -- the first few times, a few ad windows and anti-virus downloader screens popped up. I scanned with Housecall, and an infection with Mal-vundo came up that it couldn't repair. I downloaded SpyBot, AdAware, and AVG free, and not much popped up that I knew how to fix other than a dat file called __c001BA5E, and a few others. I tried to delete these on reboot, and it seemed to work for awhile. Soon enough, though, both explorers were crashing again. I've tried to avoid rebooting, but I can't help it. I'm not sure what else to do at this point. Hi all,

I really hope someone can help me out here, as this is my work box, and it will take me about a week to get everything re-installed and configured if I have to format :-(

The problem is that if I try to open windows explorer or internet explorer, they immediately crash. I suspect that this is due to spyware / virus.

I have since upgraded from service pack 2 - 3 and run scans with McAfee, Avast and SpyHunter3. Can't find anything ...
All open / save dialog boxes work fine though ... which is luckily the only way i can work now ... through firefox

Hey, I am having problems with my other computer suddenly closing both Internet Explorer and Windows Explorer applications, such as Control Panel, My Computer, etc...(Windows XP Home Edition)
When i click on either one, lets say the my computer icon, a pop up of the my computer folder thing flashes for a split second then disappears, the computer freezes for about a second, shows only the desktop, then a few seconds later the icons start appearing on my desktop and my start taskbar comes back. The screen is back to normal with no lag, but the my computer pop up is no longer there. The same thing happens with internet explorer, but it just happens alot quicker.
Does anyone know what could possibly be the problem of this, and maybe how to fix it? Thank You in advance.

there's this one thing I find windows explorer REALLY ANNOYING.

if I ever type the folder address wrong (missing a colon when my hands got sloppy) in the address bar, windows explorer automatically TURNS INTO internet explorer mode and does online search.

I don't even use IE any more except for automatic update. I wish there's a way windows explorer wouldn't automatically do it when I type the wrong folder.

I had the access disabled for internet explorer in the add/remove program, but it doesn't do jack to windows explorer from doing it

Answer:stop windows explorer from calling internet explorer

The online part there is no control over it it's based on Keywords search engines.

You all know that if you open up windows explorer by clicking on a folder (For example: My Computer), and in the address bar you type in a URL, it goes to the web page, but in Internet Explorer.

Is there a way I can make it so when I enter a url into a folder's url box, it opens up Firefox with the web page instead?

The main reason is I'm trying to keep my sister from using IE since she keeps getting so much freakin adware and spyware with it. I have plugins and mods for firefox that block out ads so there's less chance of getting it.

I removed all the shortcuts and made firefox the default browser, however, my sister likes to just open my computer and enter her url in, and thus once again she avoids using Firefox.

Can somebody help me? x_x She's so freakin stubborn. Everytime I do an adware/spyware scan, 90% of it comes from her Temporary IE files.

Answer:Question involving Windows Explorer and Internet Explorer

Hi Reita
One suggestion would try to tweak the HTTP registry entry (back it up first with right click-export). There is a sub-key named "shell", open it, next one is named "open", last one is "command" . On the right pannel double-click on the value which is the path of IE, and tape in the path of Firefox. Close the box with OK and reboot. Now everytime you'll tape in an address using the HTTP protocol, the new command you entered will launch Firefox. You can do the same for the internet shortcuts (favorites), since their hidden extension is .url and you can change the way they open regarding the browser you use for. Go to the registry entry InternetShortcut and do the same steps as before. Take great care of what you do, assuming that you know what you doing. It worked fine for me, since my default FTP browser is not IE and I tweaked the registry entry for my convenience. Hope that will help..

this is my godmother's system so for the most part i've had to peice together the exact issues but from what she's told me internet explorer and windows explorer crashes constantly while she is online gaming (e.g. pogo.com) and i have noticed on a previous visit that her homepage was indeed changed without her doing so.... now she has said that is has happened before... another thing is that the pc is running slow over all but imo i don't really see it.... i have so far run the online scans as well as her av that runs daily (avast)... also she has run spyware doctor and ccleaner as well as reg mechanic.... now the only firewall she had which is listed in one of these logs, was the windows firewall, i installed comodo personal firewall right after the scans were done.... she has a habit of running 2 av's at one time (which was the case up til today) and i have put a stop to this however i'm sure there's bits and peices left on her system from norton, avg and trend micro pc cillin..... if you have any advice where to look to get these fully off that would be greatly appreciated but not the main concern right now....

i have gone online and gotten instructions on how to remove some of the tracking cookies that panda pointed out... those would be Zedo, Mediaplex, Casalemedia and Fastclick... but i have not done anything to remove them yet, i thought i'd talk to you guys first....

any and all help is greatly appreciated and thank you in advance...

I've never posted on a help forum before, so please bear with me.

I have a Dell Studio 1749 laptop, running Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit.

Windows Explorer is not working. That is, Windows Explorer, not Internet Explorer. It seemed like every forum I already checked this confused people. The only way I am able to communicate with you fine folks is to manually run Firefox using the Task Manager interface. Here are the things I have tried, and the things that I am incapable of trying, and why:

1.) I tried booting in safe mode. Windows Explorer still would not work.

2.) I tried booting with only the bare necessities through System Configuration (msconfig) by selecting Diagnostic Startup, but the problem still occurred when I would boot to my desktop.

3.) I tried doing a system restore to 3 days ago, before the problem ever occurred, but it simply didn't seem to take, as some software I installed just last night was still here when it booted. That was a weird one.

4.) I tried rebooting with a chkdsk /r, but I could not get this to work because in order to set that up, you need to be able to run the command prompt with administrative privileges, which I cannot because Windows Explorer is not working. (I feel that maybe there is some secret way to do a chkdsk without needing the command prompt, but I couldn't find instructions anywhere.)

5.) I tried uninstalling the software that I believe to be the culprit, which happens to be Skype. Last night I received some pictu... Read more

but i have'nt seen any "uninstall icon" in the IE folder... so I DELETED the folder.... after deleting I installed explorer 8....

and here's what happned, when I try to launch IE 8..... there was this pop-up error that said:

"the Ordinal 58 could not be located in the dynamic link library iertutil.dll."

HELP anyone?

P.S.

how do you eliminate the damn "runannounce homepage?"

Answer:deleted my internet explorer 7 and installed explorer beta 8

Hi,

I have a problem IE 7 in vista is showing windows explorer history.

What i mean is whatever folders i access could be seen in internet explorer.
if i access c:\windows it is seen in Internet explorer under the address bar.
Its really irritating.

Any solutions.

P.S. I still want the IE to show the normal web history.
Thanks in advance

there's this one thing I find windows explorer REALLY ANNOYING.

if I ever type the folder address wrong (missing a colon when my hands got sloppy) in the address bar, windows explorer automatically TURNS INTO internet explorer mode and does online search.

I don't even use IE any more except for automatic update. I wish there's a way windows explorer wouldn't automatically do it when I type the wrong folder.

I had the access disabled for internet explorer in the add/remove program, but it doesn't do jack to windows explorer from doing it

My Vista Business PC has developed a nasty problem over the last two weeks. Whenever I run Internet Explorer, it causes Windwos Explorer to freeze or hang. Here's a blow-by-blow description:
1. Assume everything is running properly.
2. Run Internet Explorer. Currently I'm using IE8 Beta, but the problem was the same with IE7. The problem is also the same if I run Internet Explorer (No Add-ons) from the System Tools menu.
3. I can optionally quit IE here. The problem still occurs.
4. Hover over the start bar. The mouse pointer indicates Busy.
5. Try to do anything with Windows Explorer, e.g. click in the Start Bar (if it's showing) or double click an icon on the desktop. A box comes up saying Windows Explorer is not responding, check for a solution and restart, close, or wait. Other applications continue to work so long as you don't try to do anything like saving files. However, getting from one program to another may require the use of Task Manager Switch To...
6. To recover from this situation the only method I've found is to terminate the "explorer" process using Task Manager. Sometimes Windows Explorer starts up again automatically, but more usually you have to start it using Task Manager New Task. Having done this everything is OK again until you next run IE.

Any idea what may be wrong? I've tried installing all outstanding Windows updates using Windows Update, and I've installed IE8 beta on top of IE7. Neither of these made a... Read more

Answer:problems with windows explorer and internet explorer

First, run spybot, ad-aware and your anti virus application, and clean up any problems that they pull up, and try again. If that fails, then I assume that you either accidently botched up or deleted something that should not have been deleted, or your installation was not successful, meaning you're probably going to have to reinstall Windows.

Oh yeah, if explorer did work at some point and time, you can try a system restore back to that point, rather than a complete reinstall, although you'll have to redo all the changes you've made over that time period, although system restore isn't foolproof.

(I'm aware of the SysInternals Forum but I can't seem to get a registration e-mail out of it.)

IE can take A LOT of cpu. So I have long used Process Explorer to see which web sites are associated with the high-cpu instances of IE. (It's not a perfect technique as it does not identify which site is the culprit, but at least it narrows it down.)

But Process Explorer no longer displays the web sites (I guess it was actually displaying the titles of the windows/tabs). Now it shows me only Command Line and Path information. This may have started when not too long ago IE was updated. In any event the IE I am running now is IE10. I thought that maybe Process Explorer needed an update too but that has not helped.

I would gladly dump IE and use Chrome, which tells me exactly which tabs/sites are soaking up huge amounts of cpu, but Chrome (on my system at least) has a huge video problem. FF I don't even want to consider because it's such a disaster on my XP laptop.

So it would be great if I could just get Process Explorer to give me the IE info it used to. Any thoughts?

Thanks, Bob

Answer:Internet Explorer and SysInternals' Process Explorer

The issue is not with Process Explorer but with Internet Explorer. That only way that Process Explorer, or any other program of it's kind, can know which website a browser is displaying is by it's title bar. Since IE10 shows nothing it's title bar, at least in it's default configuration, there is nothing that Process Explorer can do. And since IE handles all tabs under the same process the title wouldn't mean much anyway. The contents of IE tabs is essentially unknowable to Process Explorer.

I don't think there is any way to do what you want with Internet Explorer, or most other browsers either.

I've been trying to repair my parents computer, which over the last few weeks has gone from a reasonably well running machine to totally unusable. To say it is slow is beyond an understatement! The problem is, it only seems to be slow in certain areas - most notably, initial opening of any windows explorer and internet explorer. Trying to My open Computer, My documents etc, or an IE window, you can quite literally double click, go and fill the kettle, wait for it to boil, brew the tea, pour it out and get back to the computer before it has opened the folder / I.E. window I've worked through the "slow computer" thread, with the exception of the defrag, simply because trying to open the defrag window has yet to succeed - and I'm not sure it's going to be enough to help?! It took nearly 2 whole days just to update and run the various anti virus and spyware... Not because the spyware was slow - once running that took pretty much normal time, as did adaware and AVG, just getting folders and windows open! That's the rub, once an app is actually up and running it seems OK?Other symptoms noted are:A tendency for "not responding" messages when trying to close programs such as Live messenger or windows explorer (though no problems with any of the adaware etc).Unable to close a file on shutdown which I have found is part of the HP monitoring software - can't really get rid of it as it's needed, but HP software update doesn'... Hello Tech Support Forums,
ever since my sister installed a spyware program called "IE Antivirus 3.3" in our pc, i was unable to do anything.

Task Manager wont show,
McAfee wont show,
Command Prompt doesnt appear to work,
Add/Remove programs wont remove IE Antivirus 3.3,
Can't shut down pc

AND Windows Explorer and Internet Explorer would stop working after a moment and a system error message would pop up, stating that i have to download spyware protection.

i was finally able to download Spyware Doctor Starter Edition and it appeared to remove the spyware program, and i regained access to most of my pc again

However, Windows Explorer and Internet Explorer are still hijacked and that system error message continues to pop up whenever i start browsing.

I tried many other strategies but i couldnt resolve such a problem

Maybe you guys could help me, here's my HijackThis log:

Hi,

Need experts' help here. Thanks in advance.

Whenever i use window explorer (WE) or internet explorer 7 (IE), there is a pause of about 5sec after i execute a command.

For example, when i am using WE, after i double click on a folder, sometimes it will take about 5secs to open the folder.

As for IE, sometimes it takes about 5secs to open IE or whenever i click on a link in the website, it will hang there and take some time before it starts to load the new website.

There is no such problem when using Firefox 3.

When i am in the safe mode, i do not have the hang issue when using WE.

I had scanned with superantispyware, spybot, trend micro officescan and online kasperksy scan. All did not indicate any virus or malware or spyware.

May i know what is wrong with this pc?

Thanks for the help.

Hi, I'm hoping someone can help me, I have a vye laptop running windows xp with an amd processor. I recently lost my Internet explorer so changed to firefox, then a few days ago that wouldn't open so I have just erased the hard drive using the recovery disc, now it's reloaded I can't open my computer, control panel or Internet explorer, it just opens the box saying it has encountered a problem and needs to close, when I click on the error report it says this file will be included in the report : c:\docume~1\rod\locals~1\temp\64de_appcompat.txt Can someone help me solve this problem please.Rod

Answer:Windows Explorer / Internet Explorer Problems

Insert the Windows® XP CD in your drive. (Hold down the Shift Key to prevent it from starting.)Go Start > Run ...in the box type in sfc /scannow ?please take note of the space between the sfc and the /.This is the System File Checker...it will scan all the Windows® core system files to ensure that they are in their respective correct places, and if not replace them from the CD.During the scan you may be asked to Insert the CD, if this happens just go retry and let it do its thing. One important point: While sfc is running, it is not advisable to do any other work, or have any browsers/programs running on the computer, until the scan is complete. (This process will generally take around 45-65 minutes to complete).Once finished, remove the CD and reboot your machine...all should be "Normal" (hopefully).

Cannot Access Settings (Sybot)Internet Explorer tells you to contact your administrator when you try to access the IE settings? This can happen if you use Spybot-S&D in advanced mode and you have used the Immunize feature without reading all the text ;)Please start Spybot-S&D again in advanced mode (usually from the Start menu group Spybot - Search & Destroy, until you've already changed the desktop icon to advanced mode), select Tools in the left bar -> IE tweaks. There you'll see a group Recommended miscellaneous locks. Untick the checkboxes in front of both Lock IE... options. You may need to close all Explorer windows, and maybe even restart Windows before these changes take place.Hint: this lock function has been added mostly for multi-user environments where you wouldn't want other users of your computer to change your IE settings. If you are the only user of your computer, there's no real need to enable them. Not sybotclick here

Hi there.
I have the following most frustrating problem with my windows ME system:
Shortly after start-up my windows explorer crashes, my task bar freezes, and I have to use the task
manager to restart it. It then crashes again a few minutes later.
My internet explorer opens very slowly and then crashes quite quickly - I've had to switch to Netscape.
Similarly browsing my hard-disk causes a crash. Netscape isn't that reliable either - but that might not be
related.
I had gator-ware and recently uninstalled it - but I wonder if it might have damaged my system causing these
problems..
I've run a check for bots/modifications using spybot - and effected all of the changes it recommended
but I still have the same problems.
Any suggestions would be most helpful
Thanks

Hi all,

I am using Window7 64 bit version. I have a problem when I was trying to open a folder. When I open this particular folder windows explorer is crashing and saying cannot access memory (with different addresses). All other folders are opening properly. Also, there are few vedio files in the directory, which can opened by right clicking on the folder using VLC media player.

I ran malwarebytes anti-malware and avast anti virus on the directory. Both showed no errors.

Please help me on this.

I'm not sure if I understand completely. If you open a specific folder, it crashes. Explorer but not your whole PC, right?
If so how do you get to a few video files in that specific folder? Do you mean it crashes sometimes but not allways?
have you tried a checkdisk of that HDD? Disk Check

For some reason windows explorer and internet explorer only work in one of my user accounts.  When I try to explore a folder, the taskbar disappears for a couple of seconds, there is an hourglass symbol during that time, then the taskbar comes back but the explorer window doesn't open.I made sure rkadmin.dll is not in the system32 folder.  I have run Spybot, Ad-Aware, Ewido, Trojan Hunter, CWS Shedder, with no luck.  Originally even the user account that works, I would lose use of windows explorer and Internet explorer after 40 minutes or so.  I ran sfc /scannow and that seemed to fix the problem with one account.  But when I tried to do that logged onto only one of the other accounts (the one that worked was not logged on) it didn't fix the problem. All of the accounts are administrator accounts.  I tried creating a new account, but that had the same problem.Hope this makes sense.  Bottom line I can only access windows explorer, Internet Explorer and file search in one user account.Using Windows XP Pro SP2Thanks.

Symantec advise taking out all their products, including Norton Utilities and reinstalling, but I downloaded Norton years ago, and their website only allows you to re-download for one year. I have to have Internet Explorer on my computer to be able to access links to a job I'm qualifying for online. Every time I try to access the link to finish qualifying, my browser takes me to a blank page. How do I uninstall explorer 10, so that I can go back to using explorer 9?

Answer:Need to unintall Internet Explorer 10 & install explorer 9

You can un-install IE10 by going to 'Programs and Features' and clicking on the 'view installed updates' link on the left-hand side of the window. Un-installing IE10 will just revert you back to IE9, it will not completely remove internet explorer from your computer.Law of Logical Argument: Anything is possible if you don't know what you're talking about.

I'm not sure if this looks the same in IE6, but in Internet Options > Connection > Settings, is the Dialup Networking connection you are using the one selected there? When you launch IE, the dialup adapter should run.

Last week my computer had a virus that I successfully removed using Malwarebytes. Since then I have been unable to access the internet using my default browser Google Chrome (instead I receive a 'This Webpage is not available.' message with the error: Error 102 (net::ERR_CONNECTION_REFUSED): Unknown error.

Or with internet explorer where the following message is received: Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage.

Yet it works fine with Firefox. I then tried signing in via Windows Live Messenger where it failed and upon doing the connection troubleshooter received an exclamation mark next to the proxy and key ports sections.

Is there any way for me to fix it so that I can have normal internet access? One major problem right now is that I cannot even upload pictures via Photobucket or even e-mail where Google Chrome gives the message: Attachment failed. This may be due to a proxy or firewall.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I am running IE 8 service pack 3 on a Dell Dimension E520. I have lost all speaker function within IE 8 and for all .wav sounds. My speakers work fine for files that I have saved on my hard drive, i.e. MP3, MPG, AVI, etc. After much investigation on my own I thought I had a problem with service pack 3. I reverted to service pack 2 and regained my speakers. I tried to reinstall service pack 3 and my speakers worked initially but were gone shortly after. There is no speaker icon on the taskbar even though "show icon on taskbar" is checked. Additionally, I am getting bogus Internet Explorer messages stating "Internet Explorer has encountered a problem and will now close". I get the option to send or not send this bug to Microsoft, I choose "don't send" and the dialogue box disappears with no interuption to service. My computer seems slower than normal and I'm convinced I have some malware, registry or rootkit issues I haven't found with my spyware tools.

I have downloaded the DDS.scr file and tried to run it but the file has no application associated with it to run. I was able to get it to run only as a DOS command in Safe Mode. I don't know whether this will show the information required but I am attaching the DDS and Attach files just the same. I have also attached the ark.txt file and am desperately asking for help to restore my system to it's rightful functionality.

Thanks to all in advance for the assistance.

Hi and welcome to TSF.

My name is Iain and I will be helping you clean your system.

You may wish to Subscribe to this thread (Thread Tools > Subscribe to this thread) so that you are notified when you receive a reply.

Please read these instructions carefully and then print out or copy this page to Notepad in order to assist you when carrying out the fix. You should not have any open browsers or live internet connections when you are following the procedures below.

Note that the fix may take several posts. Please continue to respond to my instructions until I confirm that your logs are clean. Remember that although your symptoms may vanish, this does NOT mean that your system is clean.

If there is anything you don't understand, please ask BEFORE proceeding with the fixes.

Please ensure that you follow the instructions in the order I have them listed.

My kids' computer is a compaq presario running windows vista home premium. It is connected to a linksys wireless router which, in turn is connected to a telephony modem (internet/phone etc...). Also running off the router & modem is our machine (XP), a laptop (XP) and a HP wireless printer.

The Compaq (the kids machine) will not connect to the internet via Internet explorer. It had done before, but I cannot get it to do so again. This machine sees all of the other members of the network and is receiving a strong signal, but nevertheless, IE will not connect. The LAN status is connected at 100 Mbps.

I was on the phone with Comcast for 2 hours and we did the whole reset modem/router thing a few times, as well as checked all settings.

We also reset IE & I checked the posts here and followed all suggestions but cannot get their machine online.

I've looked through the forum and followed much, including PING command and trying to reset the winsock (requires "elevation?"). Still no luck

Help!!!

Hi everyone,

I was wondering if anyone could help me figure out what is wrong with my Norton Internet Security and/or Internet Explorer....

Both have been working fine up to now, but now all of a sudden, when I open Norton and try to select Norton Anti-Spam from the menu, I get the following Internet Explorer Script Error:-

Line: 15
Char: 1
Error: Object expected
Code: 0
Url: res://C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\AntiSpam\asRes.LOC/nasstatus.htm

Do you want to continue running scripts on this page?

Whether I click yes or no, it returns to the Anti-Spam page and says "Refreshing" next to each Anti-Spam feature. When I try to click on any of the features, I get another script error.

The reason I need to access the Anti-Spam section is because for some reason, ads are appearing on sites even though I have the Norton Ad Blocker on. I need to get into the Anti-Spam to check the status of the ad blocker, but it won't let me get any further than the daft script error!

Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks guys!

Update: Sorted it. After installing some Norton and IE updates it seems to be okay now....sorry for starting such a pointless thread!

Greetings,

I spent 2 days trying to get rid of the Internet Security 2010 trojan virus on a Pc on my home network. What an experience! Thanks to this website, you had the solution that removed the virus and put things back to 'normal'.

However, now IE does not find any website? I have email access no problem. I ran the MS diagnostics and it says that winsock is ok, but HTTP and FTP are not granting access. Did this virus change some port settings or anything like that?

It's weird, because it only happens with the login that I used to remove the virus. If I log on with another login on that PC, the Internet is accessible with no problem.

By the way, there were some left-over residue in the registry which I managed to clean up with no side effects. Search for IS2010 and just delete the entries. There were maybe 6 or 7 of them...not too bad.

ANy ideas out there on the IE problem? (I'm using version 6, SP3 on that particular PC).

Thanks,

Scott M.

Answer:Post Internet Security 2010 issue in Internet Explorer

Never mind...I found it. Evidently the Internet Security 2010 trojan changes the LAN setings in IE. That is, it turns on the proxy server setting on the Connection tab of the Internet Explorer options form. I unchecked it and we're in business again.

Just thought I'd share with everyone just in case

Hello,"Internet Explorer is using a proxy server on this computer to connect to the Internet." Hitman Pro gives me that message when I do a scan, and is unable to repair the problem. I did all steps suggested at this link, as that person's problem was very similar to mine:http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic335743.html ("internet proxy?"). None of the procedures and suggestions contained at that link have worked. Also, Symantec's "Norton Power Eraser" reports two problems: m2wshlex.dll (shell extension) and deaddiskdoctor (directory).I have now done the steps at this link:http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic34773.html ("Preparation Guide For Use Before Using Malware Removal Tools and Requesting Help").I've pasted the DDS.txt file immediately after this, and attached the Attach.txt and Ark.txt files.
