Preferred Solution: RegCleaner problem

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Question: Regcleaner problem

I recently installed and ran regcleaner, I was very careful, (well actually not that careful because I forgot to back up the registry first, oops) anyway all seemed to run ok.

However now if i look at regedit under HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT after all the .xxx folders, the list of named folders most of these have 2 entries e.g 'CreatorDiskLayout' then 'CreatorDiskLayout.1'.

I'm sure this wasn't the case before. Does anyone know what I should do?

Another little thing I noticed was if i run msconfig in the Win.ini tab are some checked boxes next to 'romtech' which was a game with spyware i uninstalled ages ago, I can't seem to find any other referance to it except here, does anyone know how to get rid of these entries, or better still tell me how I decipher the win.ini box.

This is a great site by the way

Answer:Regcleaner problem

What version of Win are you using ?

When did you make these changes ?

If its Win 98 you may be able to restore your registry to a time prior to the time you made these changes. If you restart in DOS then at the prompt C: you type Scanreg / Restore .... (note you must leave spaces in this command as indicated. The system will then present you with the last 5 boot ups, just select one of them. I think it has been said on here before not to choose the earliest as for some reason this may not work. Then just hi 'enter' and the pc should boot into Win.

If you are using ME or XP you may have to get help using the Restore Point feature as I don't know this.

Once done you can then back up your Reg and have another go at what you were trying to do before.

Good Luck,
Please post if you need more help or if you get it working.

Any one knows a good regcleaner that can clean up my registry. I would prefer if it was free and have no spyware.

Download a program called RegCleaner.

Many sites now don't have it. But there are still a few that do. Use a search engine to find it. It's very easy.

Great little program that is extremely easy to use.

here is my software list, shell extensions, files types, someone help me check which software i need to remove from my system?

Answer:RegCleaner 4.3 Help

Try using a Registry cleaner that is less aggressive then RegCleaner.

Remove invalid registry entries:
Frankly, the registry is overrated as a speed tweak, in general, but it does get large and can contain many invalid references. The registry is not an area for even the average computer user to be playing around in. The good news is CCleaner has a safe registry cleaner built in, so why not clean out old, invalid entries?Click to expand...

CCleaner Download

Click the "Registry" button.
Click "Scan for Issues."
Click "Fix selected Issues."
You will be prompted to back up the registry. For the first run I would suggest doing so.
Thats it, your done, a safe, fast registry clean.

I just install regcleaner. Now; I want to know how to use. When I open it I select the seccion "software".

If I delete everything on this tble, Will I damage my system?

Best Regards.

Gengelbert Mendez Viloria.

Answer:Help with regcleaner !!!

Please don't do that. You won't like the results at all. It would leave all your installed software inoperable.

The only time you delete anything from the Software screen is when you are forced to manually clean the Registry after some poorly written uninstaller left remnants behind. So basically, just pay heed to what it says at the top of the page and don't delete anything unless you know it has been uninstalled from the drive.

I recently posted a response to someone else that gave an overview to RegCleaner so do a search for RegCleaner and it should turn up.

It's a great program and makes backups of all your actions so you can correct any faux pas without much trouble. I'll look for the previous post and save some typing, which isn't my forte.

When I opened up RegCleaner there was 3 new entries in the software section:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Star Division\StarDesktop
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\The Silicon Realms Toolworks\Armadillo

Does anybody know what these are?, I didn't install any software with these names, could this have been installed with other programs?, are they safe to delete? they are not in the Add/remove list, they are just in the registry.

Thank you.

Well it looks like a web search isn't going to give an answer so if you want to delete you should be ok becaause of the backup reg cleaner creates.

Only you can decide what to "delete" from the software list, although I wouldn't "delete" anything if possible, but rather "uninstall" using add & remove programs or reg cleaner (preferably the first).

Your start up list is quite short (that's good) and for what's there I really wouldn't worry!
The only thing that I see that is questionable in the start list is "Roxio".

Just a quick question, are the 'N/A' and 'unknown' files that appear in regcleanr (well, your registry)files that need to be there, or are they old programs taking up space? I'm erasing crap from my pc...

Answer:Help with Regcleaner?

I use RegCleaner's big brother, jv16 PowerTools. "unknown" is often a program that you need, but "N/A" is one that more often than not can be dumped. Make a backup, so you can restore any "N/A" entries that you may later find to be necessary...assuming RegCleaner allows for backups.

Regcleaner 4.3.780 works on WinXP SP1, but it doesn't run on SP2. After installation, and starting it, it just does nothing. I can see it running in task manager, but nothing is happening. Later on, I set it to run on Win98 compatibility mode, but each time it starts, it initializes like it was running for the very first time.

The single feature that I really like about this program is the "AGE" column. Whenever I install a new program, it indicates all the "new" vs. "old" entries made.

Is there a new program out there that will work on WinXP SP2 that also has the "AGE" column?

Has the registry structure changed so much in SP2 ?
found it. jv16 has the equivalent, but it is called software manager instead of regcleaner.

Answer:Regcleaner 4.3 on WinXP SP2 won't run

CCleaner, formerly known as CrapCleaner, and the new king of the Registry cleaners.

RegCleaner is pretty old nowadays and not quite as updated as it used to be. CCleaner is pretty much the best one available, and of course the best part of all: it's free.

However Regcleaner.exe has been removed from my computer. My other programs which supply and correct registry problems (CCleaner, RegScrubVista Beta and Spybot) do not see it.

The "cleaner" you are running is called "Regcleaner.exe".

The error you are seeing is caused by the program itself.

BTW the "problems" these things purport to find, really aren't and the result of "fixing" them can be detrimental to the health of your PC.

I have never used a Registry Cleaner on my three year old

something a computer owner needs to do after a period of time.

However, I do frequent NortonAV, Panda, HouseCalls, Spybot,

Also use CCleaner about once per week.

I'm having NO problem with my system right now...

As with any new system cleaning Program that I've installed (CleanUP!, CCleaner), there is that innate fear of something going wrong once the

Restore features it might have).

So, If anyone uses this Program I hope you can give me some advice on

Or, should I just leave well-enough alone?

Thank you,

Which Regcleaner you installed? as one I thinking of only has a free version its old and now unsupported but works ok.

As for CCleaner its registry cleaner is fine these days and as safe as any other registry cleaner ( I and many others use CCleaner with no issues ) as it also prompts you to create a backup of what your deleting, its registry cleaner is not as deep or radical as many others so is pretty safe to use.

A bit of background:

I originally purchased a used PC that was subsequently rebuilt by a technician a couple of years back. He loaded most of the contents of the old hard drive onto the new one, and I have the feeling that there's a lot of stuff from the previous owner (who was a gamer and heavily into videos) that I don't use cluttering things up, but I don't know what some of these programs are and need some advice. Answer:RegCleaner Advice Needed

Since loading SP2 boot-up has slowed dramatically and so have all my programs, Office included. It is as though I have run short on memory but with three-quarters 'free space' on hard disc and 512 of memory this seems unlikely. I have run CleanUp, and defragment.Having looked at other threads I have downloaded RegCleaner but am daunted by it asking me what I want to clean.Just looking at the start-up list (there are 27 items on it) I do not know which ones I should tell it to deal with and what will happen if I get it wrong. Can someone please advise how a dummy like me should use RegCleaner and how likely it is to cure this dramatic slowdown.

Answer:RegCleaner and start-up list - how to use it?

Tick the items you don't want on the start up list and choose "remove selected".

Hey all,

Using the program RegCleaner, can you safely delete everything it shows? I used one program once to clean out the registry, but it both tells you to be careful from the start and it tells you specifically (when you click on a registry entry it found that's "dead") that it's still associated to something. (I forget the name of the program, though.

Answer:Can You Delete Everything Regcleaner Shows?

I have done exactly that on at least 20 different machines, at least 100 times, never had a problem. It auto backs up, but be sure you have a backup just in case.

I made a BIG Mistake - I tried to delete some "Adminstrator.exe files using RegCleaner 4.3 (seems like a great tool) but I hit the wrong button and I think a cleaned (Removed) all my *.exe notations off the Register - I can run IE but everything else seems to give me an error message like "Widows cannot open this file: WINWORD.EXE ... needs to know what program created this file ... etc. - And The Program Icons are missing in alot of my programs. Do I have to go back and re-do all the program associations or can I UNDO the "Remove Files" somhow in RegClean? Also I cant get to System Restore - Is there a way to get these files or Registry entrys Restored? Can I get there with SafeMode or is the Registry totally messed up? - Sorry - I guess I should have known better - Thanks - JAY :cry

Answer:RegCleaner - Missing *.exe Files

Tell me, why can't you get into System Restore?
Do you not know how? Is something preventing you from accsessing it?

Also for the future instead of using Fegcleaner you should try Eusing Free Registry Cleaner or Ccleaner. Both are free and work great!

You can get into your registry by going to "Run" and typing "Regedit" But i don't think that would do you much good.

I was doing my daily RegCleaner check and found this Cddb as a new program. It seems to get into a bunch of stuff. From AVG to WinAmp, and others. Even into my scanner stuff. A Google search comes up with a CD database for artists and such. It doesn't show up as running and WinPatrol doesn't see it anywhwere. Attached is a HiJack log and the RegCleaner advanced info file.
Can one of you fine folks please enlighten me on what the devil this is? Thanks for the help.

well, my registry is starting to bloat a little and I'd like to run something like the nifty regclean utility that was in win98. Now, I *KNOW* that it is still available and *SHOULD* work fine with win3k, but has anyone actually tried it around here? or some third party cleaner?

thx for any info.

Yes, I know I could just re-format and re-install, but that's not my first choice. Thank you.

One of the computers at work is having a rather interesting problem with Acrobat Reader 7.0 (and any other Acrobat software versions). It turns out whenever you double click on a .pdf file Acrobat will never come up (even though the processes have loaded). However if you go and startup Acrobat by itself first, then open the .pdf through the finder it will open.

Here's where the fun part comes in, after you close Acrobat and try to re-open Acrobat nothing will happen. No loading screen nothing (same problem now as the double clicking method). The only way I've found is to log off and log back on in order to open another PDF file. Now I've tried multiple times installing Acrobat again, bother the older and newer versions.

Edit: When I attempt to run the software "RegCleaner" the process just runs in the background (never displaying a splash screen or anything). This computer up to I guess a few months ago never had this problem. I'm starting to suspect it's related to SP2 (would be about the time SP2 was installed). I'm fresh out of ideas, so if anyone has any suggestions please reply.

Answer:Running Process (Acrobat/RegCleaner/etc...)

Never seen this happen... Does adobe show up in your taskbar?... if so check and make sure under the properties that its not set to run minimized.. still if you click it ,,it should maximize... \

also and I hate to say it but make sure you've run adaware and spybot.. just to be safe

My friend got me RegCleaner, as well as someother programs for my computer -- a Dell Desktop PC, operating on Windows XP Home Edition. I decide to run RegCleaner without the knowledge to whatever it did (I know what it does, but not entirely in detail... that was stupid of me, since it deleted all my registry out of my carelessness) , so now my computer's gone awry.

At first, I didn't notice until I opened my PaintChat page, which requires Java. From then on, I panicked. I have Java installed, and I used my PaintChat just the night before, so I wondered how could it be possible.

I re-install Java, but it did not work -- in fact, it wouldn't open at all. Then, I go to my desktop to open RegCleaner. 'Lo and behold, it would not open.

I tried other stuff, such as the Control Panel option, and it just created another shortcut. I tried opening my Recycle Bin and all it does is multiply itself into shortcuts. Stuff like Zips, Images, and Audios that I have on the Computer Desktop (trust me, sometimes I'm so lazy that I won't save them in their respective folders) would give me a message saying "This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Create an association in the Folder Options control panel."

So, I do the smartest thing I could try doing at the time, which was rebooting the computer. Right now, nothing that comes up on my startup came up (messenger, my anti-virus, Z/A, etc.). So, I decided to check if Mozilla and my int... Read more

I have recently run TweakNow RegCleaner and it finds the following entries, which it lists as "unknown" and therefore unsafe to remove.

There are 6 entries in the path: HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\clsid\ (with the dll): admwprox.dll

There are 17 entries in the path HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\microsoft\windows\currentversion\app paths\ (with the following dlls):

Are these items safe or should they be removed?

I am up to date on Ad-Aware and Spybot and ran both prior to posting this thread (everything appears clean). Ilso run AVG, which is up to date, as well as regualar scans with Trendmicro Housecall

Hello, burrell asked me to post a separate thread about this and here it is.

I've turned off UAC that does help a bit, but it is unrealistic to expect that that is causing the freezing. rolleyes I am attaching the Paint screen shots of my Task Manager Processes file and Spybot's Startup Menu.
I have run hijackThis and cleared out what I knew could go, but if need be I can run it again and post it.

I'm specifically wondering about these processes, where do they come from and/or how do I stop them from loading in the first place?

1) Google Toolbar Notifier, I keep turning this off in the startup menu and it keeps putting itself back in.

2) Do I really need all those svchost.exe files running? (A link to an info page on that file would be great - just a thought)

3) Windows media network sharing - I am not part of a network (except the one with my ISP) WM loads those processes itself, because there are no entries in the startup menu - on Spybot.

4) inetinfo.exe - do I really need this and where do I turn it off?

5) This has to be the strangest entry: "Sink to receive asynchronous callbacks..." Could it be part of the "act as server" applications that are on my computer for various reasons eg. IIs7 or MySQL. I don't want to actually remove these because you never know, :majorI might start into something. Still how do I turn them off and can they account for the freezing and missing Re... Read more

With most modern browsers having inbuilt search engines, do you need Google toolbar? If not, it can be removed via add/remove programs.

Yes, probably, you do. SVCHOST.EXE is a generic network service that windows uses for a great many different functions. You'll notice that some are running under different user accounts. I would not sweat this.

Not familiar with Windows Media Center myself, but if I had to guess, I would say this is probably a background service. To confirm, type 'services.msc' into the run dialog, and see if anything matches. (If the description is close, you can right-click the service, and get the properties, which will show the executable name as it appears in taskmanager. This may also be helpful if you're REALLY curious about SVCHOST)

WARNING: only for advanced users who like to clean the registry.
Quicksys regcleaner normally $25 free - only 4hrs left from here:

Win 7 compatible - have used this and deleted all 1200 entries it found. It makes a backup - been running for several hours and reboots with no probs.

Also working fine so far on my Vista x64 and Win 7 x86 installs.

After cleaning you need to shut the app. and reopen it for it to find it's backups. (Easy to find them by hand - it can compress them to.7z files, too.

Have used their regdefrag a lot - identical scans and results to the Auslogics and Glary versions- so use whichever defragger you already have.

I need some help and if anyone can help me I will be very appreciated. My system is Windows 7 Ultimate X64.
1. USB port.
I used to have a Lenovo thinkpad W520, the USB ports can still provide power and the devices connected to the port won't be disconnected after the PC turning into sleep mode even power off, but everytime when I wake up my Precision 7510, the keyboad need a long wait to be reconnected and all of the external hard drives are reconnected too (Auto play also pops out). And I cannot charge my cellphone even if the precision is in sleeping mode with power connected to it.

2. External Monitor,
I get a Dell P2417H monitor. I connect the monitor to my PC through Display port.
Then I use the Screen Resolution to Identify the monitor. I then use "Identify" to identify the monitor, at first both of the monitors show (1\2), which is correct because windows is set to duplicate the monitors. Then I selected Show desk top only on 1 and then "Identify" the monitors. Both of the monitors show a big 1. Then I selected show desk top only on 2 and then "Identify" the monitors. Both of the monitors show a big 2.(My p2417H is actually 2)
Then I select apply so only p2417H shows the display and close the laptop's lid. (I set the power options, so that the PC won't be turn off when I close the lid or after a long deactivation)
As long as I close the lid and turn the laptop into sleep mode and wake it up. The monitor setting... Read more

Some of what you're experiencing may be due to the different hardware than you had in the older system - however, one BIG possibility:
Windows 7 does not fully support the power management features of the Skylake CPU and chipset in your system.  Even if Windows 7 is correctly installed, there will be missing features (Microsoft never implemented the advanced Skylake power management features in anything older than Windows 8).
You'd likely experience some of the same issues with a Skylake Lenovo system.
The Skylake platform in your system WILL run Windows 7 (it's the last Intel platform that will;  the newly released Kaby Lake won't run it at all), but it won't implement all the Skylake power management features it has no drivers for (and never will have drivers for).  Unless you're completely stuck with Windows 7, most of the issue -- or all of them -- will go away if you move to Windows 10.  If you don't do it now, this is the last hardware you'll be buying -- as above, Windows 7 is history as of the release of the new Kaby Lake platform.

I believe I have a virus these are the symptoms i am experiencing and what I have tried so far:-

1. I am having problems using google, sometimes when I click on results they go to another page, sometimes it decided i am not connected to the internet when I know I am.

2. I started by trying to run Malwarebytes but this would not open, then the same problem occurred with Spybot, it wont open.

3. I tried to scan with Trend Micro but the virus has prevented Java from working and so Trend does not work.

4. Tried to do a system restore but that says the drive failed during the restore.

5. AVG does not find any viruses when scanned.

6. Computer will not hibernate, it goes to blackscreen and then back to the desktop.

7. I managed to get Malwarebytes working by renaming the file from mbam.exe to mbam1.exe but now it freezes is not responding about halfway through the scan, have also told it not to scan registry items but it still freezes. Also after it has frozen it will not close even by trying to end the process.

So they are my problems can anyone help? Thanks

Answer:Virus, google problem, Malwarebyte problem, Spybot problem, etc

Try this scan. You can copy it over from another computer on a CD or pen drive if you need to.Before we start fixing anything you should print out these instructions or copy them to a NotePad file so they will be accessible. Some steps will require you to disconnect from the Internet or use Safe Mode and you will not have access to this page. Please download DrWeb-CureIt and save it to your desktop. DO NOT perform a scan yet.Reboot your computer in "Safe Mode" using the F8 method. To do this, restart your computer and after hearing your computer beep once during startup (but before the Windows icon appears) press the F8 key repeatedly. A menu will appear with several options. Use the arrow keys to navigate and select the option to run Windows in "Safe Mode".Scan with Dr.Web CureIt as follows:Double-click on drweb-cureit.exe to open the program and click Start. (There is no need to update if you just downloaded the most current versionRead the Virus check by DrWeb scanner prompt and click Ok where asked to Start scan now? Allow the setup.exe to load if asked by any of your security programs. The Express scan will automatically begin.

Hi! I have a few problems with a few difference softwares. I thought it would be best open on thread with all the problems other than opening multiple different threads.
My Problems are:

1) I use mozilla firefox and i have a problem opening PDF files. When i click on a link which leads me to a PDF file, the following error message pops up.
"The adobe acrobat/ reader that is running can not be used to view PDF files in a Web Browser. Please exit Adobe Acrobat/Reader and exit your Wev Browser and try again."
When I use Internet Explorer, I get a similar error message.
"The adobe acrobat/ reader that is running can not be used to view PDF files in a Web Browser. Adobe Acrobet/Reader version 8 or 9 is required. Please exit and try again."
This message tells me to exit Adobe Acrobat/Reader. I don't exactly know how to do that.

2) The other problem I have is with Windows Live Messenger (MSN). This messenger allows you to draw in a conversation. They have a handwriting tool. The problem I have with this tool is that when I use it to draw something, what I draw doesn't appear on the place where I am suppose to draw before sending the message. But when I click send just by drawing something with seeing what is happening on my screen, I will be able to see what I drew in the message sent part of the window. I know this is confusing but it is hard to explain. So basically, while drawing something, I can't see it but when i send it, I can see it.

So I recently moved for my job and packed up my desktop. After 3 months of not using my desktop, I decided to hook everything up and give it a boot. It worked fine for the first 5 minutes, then after a shower, I came back and got a blue screen. I decided to hit the power button and since then it hasn't been working. It starts up, runs, then asks if I want to continue in "Safe Mode" (which doesn't make it work), "Normal Windows" (doesn't work either) or "Last Current Windows that worked" (doesn't work either). After that, it loads for a second, then restarts.

I have no clue if the movers were rough with my dell and thats why it isn't working. Or if it isn't working because of a software problem.

I decided to take video of it to show you guys exactly what is happening. Hopefully it'll help out in solving this problem. Sorry if the video takes a long time to load, I had to use my digital camera to shoot the video.

Everyone here has been so hopeful before. Thanks in advance for your advice, and thank you all for the wonderful help you have provided me in the past. I have nothing but the fondest respect for you all.

Answer:Software problem maybe hardware problem (vid. of problem included)

Right when you see the Dell logo, start pressing F8 for the Advanced Boot Options menu. When it comes up, select Disable Automatic Restart After System Failure. The loading process should stop on a blue screen error. Make a note of the error number(s) and any file names and messages, then post them here. The blue screen is coming up, but it flashes by too fast to see it. Selecting Disable Automatic Restart will allow you to see the screen and write down the details.

Hi, I'm new here (meaning I just made an account but have been lurking around every time I had computer trouble. This time however, I couldn't find anything that resembles the trouble I'm currently experiencing) and I'm hoping if anyone can help me or tell me if I should just throw my laptop against the wall.

I've had my printer (details and TSG SysInfo below) for over a year now, and never had any trouble with it. A few days ago, I needed to print something but wasn't able to (I can't remember what the error said, it didn't happen again) so I uninstalled the printer and re-installed it by downloading the drivers from the HP website. Pop-up balloon said that it wasn't successfully installed and when I would try to install the driver by going to print management and click on Printers I would get: "An error has occurred on the script of this page. Line: 40. Char: 21. Error: Object doesn't support property or method 'SetPrinterName'. Code: 0. URL: res://C:\Windows\system32\pmcsnap.dll/81". So I clicked on Drivers instead and tried to install the driver there and it said: windows found driver software for your device but encountered an error.

Do understand that I have no idea what I'm doing whenever my computer doesn't behave as it is supposed to, and everything is done by trial and error; mostly error. For some reason I felt the need to do a chkdsk /f /r which was scheduled on the next restart, b... Read more

I recently purchased 3 Brother HL 2310 printers. Two were installed immedaitel;y and have been working fine - the third was kept as a reserve. Then one of the other printers finally gave up the ghost and the reserve 2130 installed on that Windows XP PC. Afterone week that 3rd printer started reporting no paper incorrectly and, knowing the operator, today decided to do a swap with one of the other printers. However, this afternoon this replacement started reporting no paper. OK - not a printer problem. I totally uninstalled the driver, did a safe reboot and a normal reboot and then and reinstalled the driver. Within minutes, same problem. OK not a driver problem. So that leaves operator or Windows.
Any thought on what could be a Windows problem, or how I can prove its NOT a Windows problem, because I can't see how it can be an operator problem (although she has wrecked 3 PCs and 3 printers in 3 years).
Not in the office now until Wednesday morning, but it certainly wouldbe helpful if I could do/say something then.

Answer:Is this a windows problem or a driver problem,, or a hardware problem

Hi, Before Xmas I bought a tablet X201T ( i7 2.13 GHz, 4Gb ram, Win 7 pro) with the following display: 12.1" WXGA LED Panel with wide viewing angle This display was the only option since the ultrabright outdoor display seems to not be anymore available in the website and I don't care to have a touchscreen in a tablet. My tablet has the following problems when in PORTRAIT MODE: 1) In Windows Journal: if I select the highlighter or I decide to open another application, like adobe reader, and then I return to my windows journal page, near to the dot cursor it appears another icon that bugs a lot especially if you are trying to write. Basically I see the dot and next to it, on the upper right side another symbol. For example if I select a thick highlighter and then I select the pen, I visualize the dot of the pen and on the right side next to the dot a colored semitransparent bar belonging to the previously selected highlighter.  This happens only when the tablet is in portrait mode! 2) In Windows Journal or in other drawing applications ( I have autodesk sketch book pro) in portrait mode: if you draw close to the border on the camera side of the tablet or if you cross the black border in the display on that side of the tablet, drawed lines appear that go from that side to the other side of the if you draw a straight line from that side to the other ... I had no problems with Customer Preview, everything worked, but, I must say that this Release Preview is another story all together. My PC hardware configuration is unchanged since installing Windows 7 when it came on to the market.

1. Doing a clean install did not install a clean installation of Windows 8. It took three attempts. Previous wallpaper, user login avatars, etc. kept showing up in the new supposedly clean install, even when installing with a local account.

2. At shut down I am constantly getting a winlog.exe error stating that I need to insert a disk in to various empty drives. This stops the computer from shutting down. The error message appears 18 times and has to be clicked away every time it appears. The OS shuts down but my computer hardware keeps running [fans, disks, etc.] I fear I may have to get rid of Windows 8 RP before it ruins my entire PC.

3. After the OS has shut down the computer itself will not switch the power of. The computer light showing disk activity is constantly on, even though the OS has been shut down.

I'm going to have to give up on this OS. This release candidate is not working at all well on my setup. Highly peculiar, especially as I had no issues with the Customer Preview and nothing has been changed in my PC hardware setup.

Answer:Release Preview - Nothing but problem after problem after problem.

Hello Rich,

I know you said clean install, but just to check, did you delete the old Windows 8 CP drive/partition so it will be "Unallocated Space", then reinstalled Windows 8 RP?

Did you use a local user account or a Microsoft account? If Microsoft account, then that would be why you got your user picture back since it synced with your Windows Live ID and used the same one.

Answer:LENOVO B590 WIFI Problem - Auto Disconnect + SCREEN FLUCTUATE PROBLEM

hi chetansoni,
Welcome to the Lenovo Forums.
Regarding your problems, can you try the following:
1. The Wi-Fi auto disconnect problem that you're getting is most likely a driver issue. May I know what version of the Broadcom driver that you're using?
If the WIndows 8 driver from the B590 drivers page doesn't work, try to install this driver (Windows 7 version).
Broadcom BCM43142 Wireless LAN Driver (802.11b/g/n)
10.6 MB
2. As for the horizontal lines, do you get this when you boot the machine up or tilt the screen to a different angle? If yes, then this is most likely a hardware issue (could be a faulty LCD cable or the LCD itself). To isolate, try connecting an external monitor and observe.
In this case, I recommend you contact lenovo and report the issue as you may need to send the unit for service.

What type of ac adapter do you have, voltages and have you tried another type of ac adapter ?

I don't know for sure, but... it sounds like something is wrong with the ac jack.
Those can be replaced easily if you know how to solder, the part will cost less 7 dollars USA wise but shipping to you might be another issue due to your location.

Answer:Yahoo Messenger/Logitech Webcam Problem (was told could be a Vista problem)

Hello Matth3w

Welcome to TSF

I have seen the rest of your requests for help in different forums and not one person has asked you, Have you got Norton? Has your partner got Norton?

If so then you/your partner need to give Norton permission to allow the yahoo web cam facility.

The error message is actually being transmitted from your side telling the other computer that your blocking it because you haven't yet accepted it as a safe device/service

1. You can change these settings in through Windows Firewall

Control Panel\Security\windows Firewall

2. Select Change Settings and select the Exceptions tab.

3. Look down the list to find Yahoo Messenger or relating programs and check the box to the left of it

4. If you cannot find Yahoo Messenger or relating programs select Add Program and search through the Program File to add it.

5. Once checked select Apply and Ok

6. Reboot and try the webcam, you should now be able to use it without any errors. Let me know if its a go

I hope someone can help me. I am using a new computer with Vista and have just installed Adobe Photoshop Elements 7, plus a 2000 Microsoft Home Publishing programme. Both appear to work properly, except the programmes' toolbar fonts are almost unreadable - very small. I have enlarged the actual desktop fonts, but cannot see how to enlarge these programme fonts.

I have another problem with Outlook. I cannot add alias's to my email address. I know how to do it, but when I get to Add email, the page that opens up is too large for the screen and the buttons on the bottom are not visible.

Any help would be very much appreciated. Thanks.

Hi guys,

About two months ago I bought an Acer TimelineX laptop (the 11.6" version with the i7 core.) Last night it started havong some vicious problems. It will instantly shut down or freeze with the current displayed graphics being very distorted, seemingly at random intervals. I suspect a hardware problem because a few minutes before all this started I noticed the cover protecting the internal components was out of place, so I snapped it back into position.

I tried running some of the pre-boot Windows diagnostics, but they came up clean. The system crashed once during this process and gave me a blue screen of death that said "PFN_LIST_CORRUPT". I ran a diagnostic on the memory and it came up clean as well. I'm thinking I might have broken some critically important piece of hardware. Anybody have any ideas? Thanks!

Answer:Problem with Acer TimelineX turning off/freezing, suspect a hardware problem

A few silly ideas that i've tried with my Acer ..
try taking the battery out !..
just run it off the lead..
I've been told its something to do with a hardware issue with the standby mode of the fan or the CPU or some standby/neutral position that some gizmo inside does (have you guessed that I'm no techie ;o)
Try it out, it could be a simple (if not permanent) fix.
Good luck

Can anyone help me please?
A few days ago when i tried to play an audio on my computer it was making nonsense sound, like crackling or something like that (this was just when i was running any file, including movie or music and when it was supposed to have some normal voice inside the speaker).
A few days later, i had a noisy screen (not a voice noise). the screen was like in grids and the grid lines were made of white dots. This happens not only after windows boot, but from the first moment i power the system on. during boot process as well as when in windows window.
After a short time in windows the BLUE SCREEN appears and says nvlddmkm.sys not working properly. well, this is about nvidia VGA driver i guess. BUT if it's a driver problem i shouldn't have it while in boot and when windows has not yet started + what was that sound problem then? are these two problems related to each other?
I've checked the monitor, it works well with other systems, and also this chasis has the same problem when connected to other monitors.
it was a long time i hadn't opened the chases, to try to fix these problem i opened it and found it completely dusty, i thought this may have caused overheating problem and thus the motherboard damage which has led to my "ONBOARD" SOUND and also nVidia VGA defects. i checked the bios hardware check, after about 10 minutes of system turned on, it showed 38 deg. Celsius.
Anyone can suggest me anything, have you had similar probl... Read more

Good afternoon Tech Immortals,

I am working on a friend's computer.
The hardware setup is the following:

AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 5000+ 2.1GHz

2.5 GB RAM CRUCIAL (Memtest says the following about it: DDR2(64 bit)
373MHz DDR746 CAS: 5-5-15

Nvidia GeForce 9800 GT pci-e

MSI K9N6PGM2-V motherboard

The problems:

Problem1. When the computer is turned on it gives out 2 short beeps (memory error, I presume according to an Internet search). Then it loads GRUMP for Ubuntu 9 or Win XP pro
Problem2. Anything that is graphics intensive makes the computer crash or graphics get glitchy. For example videogames will either make windows crash or crash the game and exit to windows. On Ubuntu while running Compiz the OS freezes. It only crashes or glitches with graphic intensive software.

Solution tried:
For problem1. While loading GRUMP there is an option for memtest. Diagnostics came out fine, no errors.

More background information:
I've inspected the motherboard, the graphics card, ram, everything (looking at it physically for any burns or liquid spills etc)
Everything is roughly 4 months old, bought brand new when purchased.
In the past the user had the same setup except that his old graphics card (GeForce BFG TECH 8800 GT) died on him (will get further details about that in about an hour).
Replaced for graphics card mentioned above. Those problems are occurring.
The card gets warm, but not to an alarming point (I want to say around 60 degrees celcius).... Read more

The other has an IP of WAN)

From inside my network I cannot ping the

How can I make these two cards communicate properly?
Where in my Server Management can I fix this.
