Download problem

Question: Download problem

I copied and pasted the Dangerous Creatures files from my old computer (Windows ME) on to a floppy disk, then made new folders at C:/Program Files/Plus/Themes and copied and pasted the files to the themes folder. I then highlighted all the files and clicked to install, but nothing seemed to happen.
The display window came up and Dangerous Creatures was listed in the window, but the display window was black. Also none of the other sounds or animations are active.
Can you tell me what I've done wrong, please?

Thanks, Auntdee

Preferred Solution: Download problem

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

My current problem is, a couple download managers that I have used now have done this, the first one was the WoW download manager when it downloads patches, it will work for maybe a minute or so download fast then my internet just goes really slow and the speed drops. The second one was today when im trying to download americas army. It starts downloading at ~100 then goes up to ~400 then eventually goes from 700kb to 900kb after a few minutes my internet just goes really really slow and the speed drops to 60kb a second. Now if i download a file without a download manager usually the files download around 900kb-1.2mb per second and the internet speed seems the same as usuall.

Does anyone know why it is doing this?

My internet speed is about 11mb download and 760kb upload if that helps anyone.
Im using vista ultimate x64, and my computer is hard wired to the router.

Answer:Problem when download files with download managers?

What kind of router? Blizzard's download is peer-to-peer based, which can easily swamp / kill a cheap home grade router. I'm not sure about America's Army though.

Alright to star off, I have been spending like a week trying to figure this out, and i finally decided to come here for some help...

First off I have a missing DSOUND.dll problem, i noticed how people say it can be fixed simply by reinstalling DirectX, well when i try to reinstall it, a message like this pops up during it:

"An internal System error occured.
Please refer to DXError.log and DirectX.log in your Windows folder to determine the problem."

Now im not sure what exactly what this means... BUT i did get a some type of system error report and i added it to this post, maybe someone can figure out whats going on and could help me determine whats wrong with my PC using that..

Thanks, let me now ASAP!!!

Answer:DirectX9c Problem (missing DSOUND.dll problem/driectX9c wont download)

Have you done a Search for DSOUND.dll ?

There should be copies in at least 2 other places.

If so, copy and paste one to the C:\Windows\System32 folder.

Answer:avg download problem

Check the Advanced tab in Internet Options. Make sure that allowing content is checked and remove the signature requirements. If from a known publisher, it doesn't matter if it has all its papers.

Is it on any particular download or on all downloads?

Maybe your BT internet broadband service restricts how much you can download, a bandwidth limit may have been exceeded. Contact BT and tell them what is going wrong.

Question: Download problem.

We do a lot of genealogy work. As usual, during the process, we backed up the files periodically so as not to lose that valuable info. Recently, we transferred a complete file to a USB Flash Drive contemplating downloading it to newly acquired laptop with windows 8. doesn't work. Can anybody help with this?

Answer:Download problem.

Can you move it to a Windows 7 Machine? Also, I hope you have other backups, something as important as that should have redundant backups.

Does the Windows 8 machine detect the drive, and does it show the contents? Perhaps you could elaborate on exactly what you are doing and how you are doing it, and what programs are involved in the process, using screenshots to show any errors you may be getting.

Vista 32bit....Trying to get the updated Adobe Reader, but at my dial-up speed
(2kbps) it takes over 3hrs & my ISP disconnects me at 2hrs. When I reconnect (Firefox),
the download begins from the beginning rather than resuming from where left off. Is there a solution? Thanx

Answer:Download Problem

You could try a Download manager. Plenty of them On MG. Try Flashget. On the other hand, it will only resume the download, if that (resume) function is supported by the site you are using.

you should not need to install any apps to transfer your pictures...I assume you connect the camera via USB... it should show as a removeable drive in windows explorer..use that to copy/paste...drag/drop to the folder of your choice...then you can open them with any program you choose

Question: Download problem

Operating system windows 7, 32 bit, Antivirus and firewall - AVG internet security 2013
For the past few days I am facing some strange problems -
Whenever trying to any file via Google chrome download starting but
going down to 0 Bytes/sec that means no download at all , sometimes
increasing the speed up-to 40/50 KB/sec but then again down to
0 Bytes/Sec and fixed. It's like meter up and down and ultimately
getting fixed in 0 Bytes/Sec.
Never faced this type of problem in Google chrome download.
In case of Mozilla download is hanging frequently but not all time. Like I am downloading a 700 MB file after 300/400 MB entire download is hanging
Mozilla file download is disturbing very much today.
leaugesunderthesea.part01.rar
6 hours, 7 minutes remaining - 105 KB of 450 MB (20.9 KB/sec)
Scanned whole PC with my AVG Internet Security 2013 - No problem.
Root-kit scan - No problem.
Fixed errors.
Also tried Malwarebytes but no such malwares found.
Need some suggestions immedietly. Thanks.

Question: Download problem?

I seem to have problem downloading single files.

I'm currently downloading some files with "download toolbar" and am achieving speeds of 400+ kb/s.

Downloading a single file in the 'normal' manner I'm only getting 16.9 kb/s - although sometimes I get good speeds here too - there seems to be a problem with my computer sometimes not knowing what my possible download speed are - a speedtest confirms that my broadband is performing fine!

Any ideas?

Tony

Answer:Download problem?

Try the SAME file with the toolbar and the "normal" way....get a big file for a more acurate reading. Some sites don't have a lot of bandwidth available therefore downloading files will be slow. The speed with which you can download files depends on a lot of things like your network, the host site, how many people are downloading from the same site at once, your internet connection (if its cable) just to name a few! You will always see variations in speeds even from the same site with the same file.

copy a file it says File Error Cannot retrieve file. What can I do?

Answer:FTP download problem

Well, first try another FTP program to make sure it isn't something in the one you are using. If it isn't your program, then it is probably something on the server end so you will need to contact them.

then could not be saved because the source file could not be read"

When I close the pop-up error, the file goes away.

Question: Download Problem

I cannot download anything. Norton picks up nothing, I've tried running online scans but explorer wont allow me to download the active X controls and stuff. Alot of webpages turn up looking all weird too. Any ideas?

I get this message "Unknown Publisher" when I try downloading things like Mozilla etc etc... any help would be good. Cheers.

Answer:Download Problem

Um, you shouldn't be getting Publisher information just by downloading a file.
Publisher info is only attached to security certificates, and you'll only see that when you visit a secured site (like a banking site or an online shopping site).

I'm not surprised Norton doesn't help: It never does.

Let's try something: Download this and then report below with the exact error messages you got, in the order you got them, and which program is giving you the error message. Also tell us which browser(s) you're having issues with, what AntiVirus you have installed.

Hey guys, one of my PCs has been behaving very strangely for a couple months now. Simply put, any download has a 90% chance of randomly stopping before the download has finished. It started with just a few downloads failing, but now they all fail and even loading webpages seems too large for whatever's causing this. AIM appears to work perfectly fine though and its file transfer and direct connect do not seem to be affected.

Below is an image of my network layout:
http://www.mylilsite.net/images/networkmap2.jpg
The PC with the problems is called Tolchester (it's a Toledo core with half L2 enabled, making it like a Manchester, go figure ) and none of my other PCs show such symptoms. I have reformatted the PC a few times already and the problem seems to exist even at a bare OS install.

This PC has basically become useless in terms of web surfing, and I am in dire need of you guys' expertise >_<
How can I fix this?

Answer:Serious Download Problem With My PC

First question is the Linksys BEFSR41 - are you just using it as a switch (only plugging into the 4 LAN ports)?

Second question is are the wireless clients seeing any problems at all?

I recently posted a problem on here about a empty .zip file. The FE moved it onto the helproom with my permission but the problem wasn't solved.Posting here; click hereI have tried to download these files again with the same result. I even went onto the SourceForge website to download the phpbb files and still the .zip file on there came down as empty. Now can I ask a favour? If anyone has used the BBS files (any company) and have them on their own PC is it possible for you to mail them to me.Hopefully that should ensure that I get a .zip with something inside it.

Answer:php download problem

Do you want the PHP or the phpBB download ?Your thread title says you have PHP problems, but in the thread you ask for the phpbb files, so I'm assuming that you want phpBB (php Bulletin Board). Can you confirm either way whether you want one, the other, or both ?If you email me I'll certainly send them to you, but I strongly suspect that this is a problem with your PC and/or its software. Can you confirm your operating system and which zip program you are using ?

This also happens if I try to download any file anywhere on the net. The settings are the same on that PC as all my others. I can download the same file from another PC with no problem. After I replace my hard drive on my Gateway, I begin to

installed it. Every thing seem to install ok, but when you

fine but I still don't have IE7.
I can find nothing on Microsoft's site to help. Anyone have

Thanks.

Answer:IE7 Download problem

I understand that you want to be current and up to date, but is there a particular reason why you need IE7? From what I understand from your post, you installed a new hard drive, and then installed a clean, new copy of Windows XP. You did all the updates but IE7 didn't install correctly; is this right? Did you go straight to the updates after installing Windows XP, or did you install some other software or do something else first?

Question: Download problem

I have trouble downloading large files. During downloads the download will just stop. I don't get an error, or anything. The data just stops coming to my computer but the windows act like everything is going fine. The download dialogs will stay how they were for long periods of time (i've let it sit for half an hour before with no new data before cancelling the download).

I've lately gotten around it with a download manager but I like to watch movie trailers from apple.com/trailers. The wierdest part is I can use programs like everquest and Kazaa fine with no problems.

This problem doesn't happen when I connect directly into the DSL modem and I bypass my router. I know that it has something to do with how the router is set up, but I'm not sure exactly what. My dad uses the internet connection for Boeing so I can't mess around with it too much. If I ruin the internet connection he will kill me .

I use windows XP pro and I use a linksys router. I'm not quite sure right now the exact model but it is one of the wireless ones (I connect directly with a cable to the router but my dad uses the wireless). I am also using a westell modem that is a pain in the butt.

Any ideas on what I should be looking for is greatly appreciated. I don't know what else could be causing this in the router and I can't go through and change everything blindly. thanks.

Answer:Download problem

Download DrTCP:
http://www.dslreports.com/front/DRTCP021.exe

Run the program, it will show the current settings of TCP/IP parameters. Write them down.

You can change any variable that you want, click Apply, and reboot the computer, if no good; you can always change to your original values.

Start with:

MaxMTU - DSL =1492 Cable = 1500 ISDN=1322 DialUp = 576
Tcp Receive - 256960 (This is the varaible to play with!)

Window Scaling - Yes

Time Stamping - No

Selective Acks - Yes

Path MTU Discovery - Yes.

Black Hole - NO

Max Duplicate - 2

TTL - 64

Notice it said above Start with

These settings are not written in "stone" there is variability depending on the computer other setting. So try few setting and measure your Download for each setting.

In addition, in case a person has a Router the Router's MTU if set differently can affect the general MTU.

(File attached)
Mozilla file download is disturbing very much today.

leaugesunderthesea.part01.rar
6 hours, 7 minutes remaining - 105 KB of 450 MB (20.9 KB/sec)

Scanned whole PC with my AVG Internet Security 2013 - No problem.
Root-kit scan - No problem.
Fixed errors.

Also tried Malwarebytes but no such malwares found.

Need some suggestions immediately. Thanks.

Question: Download problem

Hello there !!!!

Please answer to this strange problem.

I use DAP or internet download manager 4.01 for downloading my data
from the internet.

They both download very well upto 99% level, but after that
downloading becomes extremely slow or timed out.

How do I deal with that?

Answer:Download problem

You may need to clean up your Temporary Internet Files.
In IE, click on Tools/Internet Options. Then click on "Delete Files", tick "Delete all offline content" and click OK.
In Firefox, click on Tools/Options, on the left click on Privacy, then on the right click on "Cache". Then click on "Clear" inside the yellow marked area, click OK.

Now in Windows Explorer go to C:\Documents and Settings\{username}\Local Settings\Temp and delete everything in there.

Now for the best, uninstall DAP, it is riddled with adware and/or spyware.
Also install that Internet Download Manager.
They probably get into each others way anyway.

Surf to www.stardownloader.com and install StarDownLoader. It is free, and one of, if not THE best.

Question: Download problem

I have acquired an Icon which appears on the bottom right corner of my Desktop labled "Download Manager". I believe the problem was initiated when I tried to download a program called "Screenhunter", by WisdomSoft. I must have made an error while downloading, because the Download Icon was not visible. I then tried to delete the first attempt, then download it again. The URL I used, is " ScreenHunter 4.0 Free". The program came up, but again, the "Download" Icon was not visible. Also, "Print Screen" would not work. I'd appreciate any help you can offer.

If you just want to remove it..try going to the control panel and uninstall it from the add/ remove programs section... its not playing well with your other programs and you might want to consider another comparable program that well play nice....if you have trouble removing it let us know

Question: Download problem

Hi -
This is not a big problem, because I have an alternative to it, but it is irritating. I am concerned that my alternative will stop working.

I use Firefox as my standard browser, for virtually all I do. I have a problem downloading a file from the site www.ise.com when I use Firefox. The error I get is attached.

I get this error with Firefox from both the computers that I use. Both computers are Windows 7. My version of FF is 33.0.2. I have been downloading this file frequently for many years, without problem. My alternative is to use IE, which downloads the file with no problem.

I contacted this company's support folks and they wrote to me that they saw no reason for the problem and that I was the only person reporting the problem.

I don't like to have problems like this, so if you have a solution then I'd appreciate it.

Doug

Answer:Download problem

HMM; Sometimes an antivirus program (ie on your system) will intervene and cause issues - - thinking the file contains Office virus'.

1) have the file owner scan the document with his/her AV to ensure that it is not infecting ALL recipients
2) then disable your AV and try again.

once on your system, manually scan that file . . .

Question: download problem

i have a great ebook program which I have used to author things which I have distributed to friends over the web for quite a while. But this time, I finished the project: i FTP'd it to my server, and then downloaded it as a test.

I got a black screen with the message "This program must be run under win32"

This never happened before. It now happens with everything I download with that program. My friend with another computer gets the same result.

Can anyone identify this? Is it something in my pc ?

It's only a minor problem, but it's irritating as all get out.

When I click on a download link for a .zip file, IE opens a new window with the contents of the archive shown (from where the zip file is stored in my Temp files. It doesn't give the normal download confirmation box. I can (and do) create a folder on my desktop and drag n drop the contents into it.

.exe downloads behave normally.

What'd I do? I checked the IE options and all the FTP/download stuff seems ok.

This isn't probably a security issue, but here is the fix I think you are looking for:

http://forums.techguy.org/t53760/s.html

Just follow Bryan's instructions for deleting the Extension key in the registry (see the attachment as well). It's a common problem caused by damaged Quicktime installations and some others as well. Symptoms vary, but an interrupted download and a displayed activex icon are usally reported.

Question: Download problem

Hello,

I use vista, but I'm not sure what the source of the issue is. I have had this problem before, usually when the internet is slow, but now I'm on a faster connection, so it shouldn't be the case. When I am downloading a file, it comes up now saying: "Estimated time left: unknown", and it keeps downloading. The trouble is, the file just keeps downloading, and never stops. I know what the size of the file is, but, it keeps going. For example, if a file is 9MB, it will be still downloading at 30MB. What should I do?
Thanks for any help in advance.

This is an oldish problem that has been floating around. It is to do with Google Drive, hosting, embedding etc. Are you trying to download files from a particular place? If someone has used Google Drive and embedded a file, you may experience those problems.

Hi

I am currently on a 1.5mb/256k plan.

My normal download speed averages say 140-150 KB/s. About a week ago this speed reduced down to around 40KB/s when I was trying to download one file. However I can now download 4 files at once and they all achieve around 40KB/s, giving me a total of 160KB/s!.

Somehow I have set up my computer to be able to download 4 files at once to use up my normal download speed. Therefore at present I can no longer download one file at my usual maximum speed of 140-150 KB/s.

Please help!! I want my maximum speed back!

I recently tried Bitcomet and EasyNews so I'm not sure if I changed my settings then.

Look forward to any assistance.

Cheers

Answer:Download problem

You possbily deleted some files that where shared with AVG when you removed it. You could try re-installing it, that way it will install all the files you had before. Then when you uninstall make sure you choose Keep Shared Files. Even if your computer tells you that nothing is using them....it lies!

Or you could try booting to Last Known Good Configuration.

Question: download problem

hi,

I have a website (www.sonicrampage.org) where I've posted various dj mixes I've done in mp3 format. I've had a few complaints from Vista users that they can't download the files. I use XP, so am unfamiliar with Vista, so I thought that maybe the users of this forum could help!

Here's an example page. The link to the mp3 is in the title, which is below the cover. Apparently, according to one user, "when i right click on the link, instead of giving me the option 'save as' it only gives me the option 'save link as' which then just saves the link as a document type file on my desktop".

How can I help him (and other Vista users) to download the file? Would I need to change anything at my end or is it purely a matter for Vista users (in which case I will put an advisory notice up)?

Many thanks for any help that any of you can give me!

Answer:download problem

Hi Pearsall,

Welcome to the forums.

In Firefox, 'save link as' is the same as save as. In IE it is 'save target as'.

Downloaded fine for me.

Do you mean you want to uninstall Windows Media Player and IE? You cannot uninstall IE6 and WMP from Add/Remove. Also, removing IE is highly discouraged as IE6 is tied into the operating system.

Question: Download problem

Operating system windows XP, 32 bit, Antivirus and firewall - Quick heal internet
security 2013.
I am experiencing a very disgusting problem about downloading files from internet. Every time incomplete download. A device called Nano (Nano station 2) which was installed in my roof top was not receiving signals properly. Due to this my internet was very unstable with incomplete download problems but yesterday my service provider (Tikona Broadband) has replaced the Nano (Nano station 2). After replacing the device now internet is stable but file download problem remain the same. No file is downloading 100 percent and every time incomplete download.
Previously I thought that the nano device is creating the internet problem which is partially true but not entirely because before replacing the device internet was severely unstable and unusable. After replacing it stability has been restored but no file is downloading properly.
I have scanned with my antivirus, scanned with malwarebytes but no such
malware found.
I am using ''Hotspotshield'' which is helping me to open those sites which were not opening normally. Is Hotspotshield the reason for incomplete download ?

My monitor is turning blue sometimes (1 or 2 times daily).
I have attached the snapshots of the blue screen with some technical information in it. May be this is causing the problem.

Need some help urgently.

Answer:download problem

are you buy chance downloading videos? because maybe.. if you click on the open/save link to the video, maybe it's just loading up in IE or Quicktime. By the way, which browser are u using?
