Preferred Solution: Sound problems!!

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Sound problems!!

Welcome Christopherm. By "Concert hall", I assume you mean "loud".

Left click on the sound icon in the lower right of your desktop -- it looks like a woofer. Adjust the slider and see if that helps.

I have this problem. I just bought a new computer. Dell XPS8300. Sometimes it'll lag really bad for 2 - 4 seconds and during that period, the sound will sound really bad and "pixelated".

/watch?v=1jaz44vf8ho

(add this to the back of the url of youtube.)

You can hear what it sounds like on the youtube video. It's about 2 to 3 times worse normally. Does anybody knows what's going on? Thanks!

Answer:Sound and video problems -- weird sound and lag at random moments

I'm having this same exact problem. Does anyone have any clue what it could atleast be related to? Dell wanted me to restore my hard drive to factory settings but 1. I don't feel that would help and 2. I have nothing to back up all my stuff. I'm using an XPS 435T/9000 with an ATI HD Radeon 5880 video card and whatever the generic sound card is that comes with it. If there's any solution that doesn't involve me having to go out and spent more money on an external or something it'd be greatly appreciated.

Hi,
I have a PC-Chips M848 ALU V2.1 motherboard with an onboard soundcard, C-media CMI9739A 6 channel audio.
I have downloaded the latest driver from the PC chips website, as the one that came on the CD didn't work at all. I also have the AC97 Realtek drivers installed.

My problem is that if I try & play an MP3 or a DVD the sound gets really jumpy or if it's missing part of the track out. It sounds like when there is a thumbprint on a CD & it skips over it.

Now I'm new to this so it might be something simple like it is set up to play through 6 speakers or something & as I only have 2 that is the problem, if it is great but can someone tell me how to do this. If not can someone suggest some other solutions??

I'm running XP Pro.

thanks,

Answer:on board sound problems - sound keeps jumping / dropping music.

Onboard audio can use alot of system resources and you will get audio artifacts when there are programs running in the background, system memory is low or you have an under powered processor. Win XP Pro has alot of crap running in the background. What are your other system specs? You may want to think about getting a sound card. Good ones run $20-30.

my friends computer has a A creative X-fi extreme music sound card. I bought them some logitech X-210 speakers, I have the same speakers and Vista, they worked straight away for me with onboard sound.

I plugged in the speakers to the audio jack on their PC but no sound was produced(yes they were on, yes they do work I tested them on mine, yes volume was up high). This has happened before in that the last speaker set they had which used the audio jack didn't work, but they assumed the speakers were broken. They are using USB speakers, little cheap ones, which do work..well they don't know but this will be discussed below.

I was advised to try updating the driver for the x-fi has a new driver was released this year which helped the card support vista better. I uninstalled the old drivers and so the computer couldn't find the x-fi card. I downloaded the latest drivers and tried installing them, it wasn't finding the sound card at all so it wouldn;t work, i discovered i had downloaded the drivers for the xtreme sound rather then music so i rectified this and got the latest music ones. At first it kept saying an older version of creative sound control centre(or something like that) existed on the pc and it wanted to uninstall it and update to a new one. I accepted that but it kept hanging so i went and removed all traces of the old control centre and tried again, still hung. Shut comp down and this time it didn't hang and completed, the sound card has been found again and th... Read more

Hi,

I am running Windows XP on a Intel Gigabyte 925 motherboard with onboard sound (CM9880) and 5.1 AOpen Surround sound speakers

The motherboard CD comes with drivers for both Microsofts UAA architecture as well CMedia.

The problem is that when I run the sound tests with the CMedia configuration utility all 5 of my surround sound speakers play at the correct times showing that they do work. The problem is this is the only place they work. The dont work when I play games or listen to music through various sound programs such as Windows Media Player. Here only 2 speakers work. Not all 5, some please help?

Is there and updated driver that I need to get for my onboard sound card fro Windows XP and if so from where

Thanks

Mark.

Just built a new computer, and everything went smooth except that a small but sometimes very noticeable buzzing comes out my headphones. I cant really explain it other than its a high pitched buzz, that changes frequency depending on whats on my screen. On the desktop, or web browser its very fast, while when I go into a game it slows down but becomes louder. And when something is loading, as in when i bring up firefox, it pauses for a second, then continues buzzing, or when loading a game, at the loading screen it is completely quiet, then when I am in game, it continues. Another wierd thing is, if I am scrolling through a long webpage or text file really fast, the buzz will vary depending on how fast Im scrolling.
I actually had to take my sub woofer out because i t was amplifying the buzz probably almost 20-fold, so I'm going straight from headphones to the computer.
Also, changing the sound volume on the computer does not change the buzz.

Now, as far as I know, i have the latest sound drivers, I went to my motherboards website, and downloaded the audio driver for the gigabyte GA-P35-DS3L. Other than that I dont know what else it could be.
Here's a dxdiag, if that helps.
(I did all the tests earlier, they all came out successful)

I got an Acer InspireOne Notebook for christmas, and it worked like a treat. It's got a 144GB HDD. Windows XPSP3 (Home), 1.60GHZ and .98GB of Ram. Recently I tried installing iTunes, and it didn't work very well, and when I tried media in it, it skipped and stuttered. I tried playing the same files in WMP10, VLC, and TCMP, but it stuttered on all of them. After uninstalling iTunes, it still didn't work. Eventually I tried system restoring to before I installed iTunes, and I managed to get the sound to work a bit better, but it still skips and stutters. I can't figure out what the problem is, can anyone help?

I have a SB Audigy soundcard... I also have a subwoofer and 5 speakers hooked up to it. I have 5 slots in the back of my computer for the sound... in order left to right they are black, light green, pink, light blue and orange.

I have four cords that come out of the main speaker, one of which hooks into the subwoofer, and the other three plug into the sound card. Black, green and orange.

Out of the subwoofer I have 4 slots for the other four speakers. left speaker is white, center speaker is red the two rear ones are yellow and black. Each speaker manually plugs into the subwoofer.

Going back to the soundcard, If I plug the green cord into the green slot, only the two front left/right speakers work... and none of the others work. If I plug the orange cord into the green slot only the center speaker works. The left and right stop working.

The only color that seems to work coming out of the subwoofer is the white one. What am I doing wrong here. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers and can't get this to work. I want all 5 speakers to work, but can only get 2 to work.

Answer:Sound cars surround sound problems?

it's simple really, all you have to do is plug in the green plug in to the green jack on the sound card and then the orange one to the orange jack and then the black in to the black jack. you have to have all 3 plugged in.

and if you are only playing music that is 2 channel then you will only get 2 channel audio. you need a 5.1 program/game/music/DVD to get sound from all of your speakers. or you can use the CMSS3D to "stretch" the sound to your center and rear speakers. i have a 5.1 setup and a xtrememusic card so i was just like you when i hooked it up and i realized that there was no music from the rear/center speakers.

also what audiology card do you have?

Hi,

I'm having problems with my sound, i am getting a stuttering sound more and more frequently when watching videos online/dvds.

I have tried going into the device manager and updating my drivers in the sound section, but apparently they are up-to-date. Really don't know what to do next!

I have a Toshiba laptop, satellite series. I've had no joy on that website with support. I am using Windows 7.

Any ideas?!

Thanks!

Answer:Problems with sound when watching dvd, stuttering sound

Hmm well first of all Id make sure that you are experiencing this problem while watching dvds as well as online. The reason I say this is because if its just online it could be bandwidth and if its just the dvd, it could be the damaged media.

Assuming you are consistently having sound issues watching videos online and via dvd my first guess would be overheating.

Do you have the ability to play sound files without issues? Is the problem only with video?

I just bought a Sound Blaster Audigy 2 Value and ive been having problems with Halo on the Pc. When i turn on Hardware Accelaration the sound is better than software but when its on i shoot a weapon and the sounds cuts on and off. Its annoying. So when the videos play i can hear talking sometimes and sometimes not. So whats could be wrong. Any Suggestions. Here are my System Specs: (just built)

Answer:Sound Problems with Sound Blaster Audigy 2 Value

The first thing I would do is install the latest driver. Maybe you did this already but you didn't mention it. If you did and it isn't working, maybe an older driver might work.

I know I need to install drivers so I went into diagnostics and it says I have no sound card. How in the world did I have sound before? Maybe my sound is in the motherboard? If so, how do I find out what drivers I need?

The current computer I use is not able to go as "loud" as my previous computer. My current computer is not new now, but it is a good 5 years or so newer than my previous one, I'm sure, so why the "power" of the sound is extremely weaker than my previous computer baffles me.Previous computer was Windows ME, current one is XP Media Center Edition. There's a good chance I have no idea what I'm talking about since I just do not know this stuff, but what does the "sound card" in a computer do? Is that what determines how powerful the sound is, how loud it can go, in a computer? If the case with me is that my current computer just has a weak sound card, can I/how do I replace it with a more powerful one? This computer was not custom built and I have never messed around with any computer hardware stuff, but it is definitely not beyond me to learn how to do such things, so how difficult would replacing a sound card be?I don't know what kind of stuff my previous computer used, but my new one does have this thing called "realtek hd audio", whatever that is.I have listened to both my previous computer and my current one through speakers and headphones and earphones with the sound being louder across all on the previous, so that is not the issue.Any more information you need about my current computer to determine why it would just have weaker sound than another computer, any other computer, just ask but be sure to tell me how to ... So I just recently switched back from vista to xp (vista sucks :S) and now I'm having troubles getting my sound to work. I can use my usb headset to produce sound but my creative 7.1 surround sound doesn't want to work.

I have Creative SB Audigy 2ZS (latest drivers)
I also have SoundMAX Integrated Digital Audio

I don't know why I have both of those maybe they are the problem?
Also I'm not sure why but I was getting sound once but then after restarting I lost it again, maybe that indicates a problem with my BIOS?
Thanks in advanced for the help

I'm really very sorry to make this post since I can't be more precise with the problem. But, I can't seem to get any sound out of my PC and I'm really at a loss to know how to fix it.

I bought this PC from a fairly reputable store in downtown Toronto about a year ago. Let me first tell you the PC's specs:

Intel Core 2 Duo E7300, nVidia 9800GT 512MB DDR3, 2GB (2x1GB) DDR2 800, 500GB HDD SATA, 18X DVD-Writer :RTGS001359.

I am really very sorry. But I don't know hardly very much at all about hardware and drivers and installing drivers. I have always worked with software and I guess I'm just out of touch with hardware.

When I bought this PC, it came with two driver CDs. The first CD is labelled FOXCONN and has a web address on the CD of: www.foxconnchannel.com. I'm guessing this first CD is the hardware driver and includes the sound drivers. The second CD seems to be for my video card. It is labelled Nvidia GEForce. For some reason, I do recall that there were some sound installation routines on this second CD as well as the first. Does that make any sense? Could it be possible that the Sourd drivers actually do exist on both CDs?

Anyway, I bought this PC about a year ago and I recall that when I originally did the driver installation, I had to install them both twice.

The hardware installation consisted of three components and it offered me the choice of installing all three at one time - or installing them each - one at a time. I ... Read more

Please can anyone help? I am trying to help my grandaughter as she has lost her sound on her laptop, she has 'ADS instant HDTV PC1' showing on the device Manager but with an orange marker next to it.

I have tried to update the driver but although Windows found the driver software for the device it has encountered an error while trying to install it. We have a message telling us that this device cannot strt. (Code 10)

Please can somebody help as to what we have to do as I have a very unhappy teenager by my side!!

Answer:Sound problems on laptop, no sound!

Seems like ADS Tech Instant HDTV PCI is a TV Tuner Capture Card, and not an audio card. It's most likely that ADS Tech Instant HDTV PCI is not responsible for the loss of sound in your grandaughter's laptop. Could you tell me please what is your grandaughter's laptop brand and model?

I have just installed a Soundblaster Live 24 sound card (to replace the faulty RealTek AC97 on board). Everything works OK except the sound briefly stutters (interrupts) everytime I open an application or navigate to another web page/site. I have 1Gb RAM, a 2.6Ghz CPU and so resources shouldnt be a problem. I have the latest driver installed. I disabled the Realtek via the Device Manager (but not BIOS?)

Does anyone have any suggestions? I am fairly inexperienced with these things so please explain clearly if its complicated!!

Many thanks in advance,

Matt.

Answer:Sound problems - sound stutters

1st you should get into the BIOS and disable the onboard sound. When your PC first boots up press DEL to get in. If it's not the DEL key then try ESC, or F1, F2, F10 etc... Normally it tells you what key. Find and disable the onboard sound once you get in. Then save and close. Note you only have about 4 or 5 seconds to get into BIOS. If you miss it and bootup starts, you'll have to restart and try again.

Then go to the Start Menu to Programs/Creative/AudioHQ. Go through all those settings and tweak around and see if you can fix it. Make sure no kind of signal "boost" is going on. Make sure it has the right number of speakers chosen (2, 2.1, 4 etc). Check the environment settings and try different ones. The EQ settings. Whatever looks like it changes your audio.
Make sure digital audio is OFF unless you KNOW you're using it with your speakers.

Also I would check Windows own audio settings from Control Panel and volume settings. Make sure all that looks good.

You might even update to the latest DirectX (thus Directaudio). Use Windows Updates for that. Look at top of Start Menu under All Programs.

If it still does it, it could be a background program. Try closing any and all open programs and see if that helps. Close them through the icons by your clock. And also you can use the task manager, press CTRL+SHIFT+ESC. Then look for programs to close under the Programs tab, and also look for programs to close under the Processes tab beside your u... That's a lot of info BUT the important thing is what happened prior to this as I assume it used to work correctly? Did it ever work? If not, what has changed? Are you the administrator this computer? The only user? Have you monkey aout inside the case or played within the BIOS? Have you checked the manufacturer's site for the latest drivers, and etc.

Question: sound problems

I own a HP Pavilion dv6748us. It came with windows vista, but i downgraded it to xp. When i downgraded, it took me ages to find many of the drivers to work with this model laptop, especially the sound. I now have a semi working sound card.

Here are my problems.

The "master volume" does nothing, and muting it all does nothing. All the volume is controlled by the "wave".

When i plug my headphones into the pc, it does not mute the system and i cant find a way to do it.

Are these problems specifically with the sound card driver i installed for me to finally have sound again, or are there other ways i can fix this.

Thank you

Question: sound problems

Hi,
I have a year old computer operating system XP SP2 it was working fine till last week when suddenly something went wrong with the sound card or the driver. No sound comes out of it. I've checked speakers and taken off the cover and checked connections and speaker cables but nothing has solved the problem. The sound card is onboard. Everything looks OK in the device manager. The driver also seems to be working ( I get the message it's up to date)
ıs there a way to solve the problem or would you recommend buying a new sound card
Thanks

Problem= How can i get realtek HD audio manger to pic up my Logitech headset. please help! what do i do?

Answer:Sound problems.

Your headphones need to be plugged into the soundcard - not other headphone sockets that are usually available. Also, if your speakers have a headphone jack, use that instead.

Question: Sound/PPP problems

Previous post to Operating System Forum had no response. I shall try Applications now.

The system:

Dual boot (Red Hat 6.1/Wintendo 98 second edition) overclocked AMD K6III w/128 MB RAM, 16 MB Diamond S540 vid card, Creative Labs audio, CD, etc. Machine has been solid and stable for many months. New software has not been added recently.

The problem(s):

Initially had difficulties with dial up. If the machine had been rebooted I found it neccessary to go into Control Panel, click Network, close it, and bingo! I could get a dial up connection. Soooooo, I did a reinstall. Now, in addition to this annoying little problem my sound only runs for about a second then quits. No Winamp tunes will play (MMSYSTEM004 The specified device is already in use. Wait until it is free, and then try again). Reloaded the drivers for the audio card, the wave drivers for my external modem, and Winamp. Shall I delete the win.com file in c:\windows and try to do another reinstall? What's up with the wacky dial up? No bugs were found by my virus checker. Argh.

I am not sure if this problem is related with Windows XP, or this is more of a hardware problem.

Recinetly, I had stereo sound running on my computer. Now, it only comes in at mono sound. Does anyone know what causes this? What's weird is that earlier that day I got stereo sound, then later on that day it went to mono sound.

Thank you in advance, and thanks for putting up with my many questions...

Question: Sound problems

Hello,
I hope I'm posting this in a right place.

I have problems with my laptop, Win 8.1... I bought it a few months ago, so it's new, and suddenly (few days ago) sound stopped working.

I did make some changes right before that (cleaning with Advanced System Care).. and problem started when I restarted it... I get the error in Windows Media Player "WMP encountered a problem while playing the file.", and while trying to test any sounds: "Failed to play test tone", but it seems that everything is OK. I can't find any hardware/driver problems..

I use Advanced Sys Care from the beginning, and it never caused any problems, so I'm not sure if he is the guilty one
I tried roll-back option in Adv.Sys Care, and Windows' restore point... It didn't work..
I also tried everything from reseting sound settings, reseting audio services, uninstalling everything that has something with the audio from device manager, reinstalling and also updating all drivers... Even though the COM+ Unmarshalers registry is there, I tried using Windows Repair (all in one) as I found some suggestions on google.. (Unmarshalers exists, but every registry inside is empty.. So there are a lot of subfolders in it, each with one registry with "(default)" name and under data it says "value not set".. I'm not sure if that is the problem..)

I don't know what else to try..
Sorry for my bad English and long post, I hope I explained it clearly enough..

Answer:Sound problems

Hello, and Welcome

At a command prompt type sfc /scannow. Press the Windows key + X. Select Command Prompt (admin)

Edit: I would uninstall Advanced System Care. It can, as you already have found out, create more problems than is solves.

You can also use the Microsoft Sound Fixit here.

Question: Sound problems

#1 Jul 22, 06 - 3:07 PM HiI have an Audigy 2 sound card and seemed to have developed a problem. I have tried installing the latest drivers, but still the same thing happens. What happens is as i am loading a map in battlefield 2 and about to come into the game, i get what i can only describe as a whistle sound and then it just cuts the riffle sounds out of the game. I have tried installing the drivers over and over again, but without any joy. Can anyone here tell me what this might be and how to get rid of it.May i also add that somtimes it gives of a beep or whistle noise and it all works fine.Thanks.

Answer:Sound problems

I would borrow another sound card from a friend, install the proper drivers for it, re-boot and see if the problem persists...If it doesn't then you have solved your problem...you need a new sound card.

Question: Sound problems

I have a lenovo y50p and the speakers were working great out of both speakers, until, I plugged in a USB headset device that only has one headphone on the right side. After I unplugged the headset, only the right speaker will work now and nothing I have tried has helped. I tried googling it, but all I was getting was the 'right click sound icon->playback devices->right click speakers->properties->levels->balance' solution which does nothing for me because it says the speakers ARE balanced. I just want my left speaker back.

Also, since my left speaker disappeared, my overall volume have gone way down and audio is very muffled sounding.

Are your audio drivers up to date? If so you might try doing a control panel uninstall, reboot and reinstall.

Question: Sound Problems

Hello
I have had no sound for ages on my HP pavilion runs Vista SP 1.
on the icon tray the speaker has a red cross by it and when you open the icon and look at sound mixer it say " no audio device installed". yet in control panel there are no conflicts and it says that the device is working. Well I have installed a Creative Sound Blaster on a USB to get round this and loaded the drivers.
Result- nothing , not a sound. :cryI have tried headphones and my speakers. Very annoying. Anyone a clue what to try next? I believe the motherboard has the sound card as there is none that I could unplug as in older computers.
I know it is 7 years old now but I like it and it does most things perfectly.
Cheers

HP pavilionClick to expand...

Exact model? I like to look over the hardware specs and since there are tons of models, I can't begin to guess what you have.

Creative Sound Blaster on a USBClick to expand...

Again, you fail to mention the exact model.

I did find your post from January which mentioned you have no sound on your 32 bit Vista SP1 computer and mentioned that you can't download SP2.
Explain what happens when you try and download SP2.
http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=16468

Support for SP1 ended July 12, 2011 almost 3 years ago. So you are missing three years of patches and updates for your operating system.

Question: XP Sound Problems.

So my brother was playing a game on his older Gateway tower in my presence and just like that - the sound stopped. Yep, that's what I said. Just. Like. That.

So we started poking around in Windows settings. The Windows Audio service was started, poked around in the audio control panel settings, nothing muted. Also tried different speakers, headphones, etc. Nothing worked.

I have a spare PCI sound card of a completely different brand and I put that in to give it a shot. It too failed to work. Tried different drivers and everything. Each time in the XP audio settings in control panel it says no device detected.

So more or less, we have a system that has worked fine since the beginning of its creation, then one day it stopped working with all sounds, and even with new drivers/sound card/headphones/speakers, XP still fires back no audio device detected.

Not sure where else to go with this... but considering the nature of the situation, I began to suspect Windows having an issue somewhere as opposed to my hardware, hense why it was posted here.

Try a Repair install.

Question: ME sound problems

Comp specs:
P3 500
Soyo 6BA+IV
Dimaond MX300 (using latest ref drivers)

Problem: I periodically lose sound in ME. I remember getting very pissed not being able to find the Aureal drivers for a while, since I had removed my card from Device Manager, but the drivers weren't on ME or anywhere on the HD. I finally got it working, but only for a short time. Seems if i reboot or put the computer to sleep, it goes. And i'm not sure what'll bring it back, but i'm pretty sure i don't wanna have to go through it everytime.

Thx in advance.

Answer:ME sound problems

Ok, i need to make a correction. It seems that if i put my computer to sleep (not off) it loses sound. Rebooting does alieviate that problem, but i'd like to still be able to sleep and have sound when i bring it back up instead of having to go through rebooting.

Question: Sound problems

Hi, thanks for reading. I purchased my computer a few years ago, and for the entire time I have had it I have had problems with the sound, but never really did anything to fix it. (I guess i'm just lazy). The problem is that occasionally the sound will just stop, specifically when I am playing games. If I alt-tab out of the game or something, it will usually come back on. It just sort of cuts in and out. Before I go any further, i'll give you some info on my sound card and such. (Forgive me if I don't give enough or something, or not even the right thing, i'm rather newbish on how this stuff works I'm getting this info out of the System file in Control Panel, under Device Manager and in the Sound, video and game controllers part.

SoundMAX Integrated Digital Audio

Under the Resources tab I have:

Interupt Request 10

Input/Output Range 2800 - 28FF
Input/Output Range 2050 - 2053
Input/Output Range 2054 - 2057

Not sure what other info I need to give. Anyhow, what prompted me to go ahead and write this post was that I was trying to get the digital audio to work on a game I installed. It's an older game from 1998. Normally I do not have problems with getting sound to work, and I just choose Soundblaster or whatever works from the setup for games and everything goes smoothly. Well, I can't get any of the cards listed on there to work, and so I went to the FAQ guide for the game and it told me to go in to the resources part of the card and copy... Read more

Question: DVD Sound Problems

Can anybody please help this old boy!! I have problems when playing DVD's, the picture is fine, but the sound is all broken up and it is driving me crackers, I have tried all sorts of stuff apart from putting in a new sound card, but I do not think that would solve the problem, because CD's play perfectly!! It is only the sound that causes the problem when being viewed with a movie. I have two DVD Drives and both give the same problem, so it is not a faulty drive (I hope!) I did update firmware on one of them and thought perhaps that was the cause, but as I said before both have the same problem and were not together when I updated. Any ideas anyone?

Question: Sound Problems

To HP, I'm having problems with the sound on my brand new laptop. Firstly, I am experiencing crackling from the speakers. I have looked at previous forum questions to try and resolve the issue but they have not worked. Secondly, the sound keeps gradually getting lower and lower until I hear nothing despite not changing the volume level. It does it by itself. If I press pause on the song/video, it will then resume at the previously set volume. Should I return the laptop or is this a common resolvable problem? Kind regards, Fiona

Question: SOUND problems

I have had no sound since updating windows on 30th Sept, and downloading IE8 to do it.
It appears I have a file named 'AMPinglo.evt' which I tried to eradicate using File Assassin, but it's lodging itself back on board ('System32' has the file apparently). I don't even know if this AMPing thing is the issue, but something won't let me update the sound driver despite my using several methods to try and do it.
The local p/c and electronics shop (Maplins) suggest changing out my sound card, but I don't think that will help will it?
I already tried scans and update engines, as well as manually tracking and troubleshooting - but I can't make it out and the facilities used keep getting locked out/rolled back.
I'll be grateful if you can give this your attentions.
Thanks in anticipation

Hi and Welcome to TSF

Use Belarc Advisor it builds a detailed profile of your installed software and hardware, including Microsoft Hotfixes, and displays the results in your Web browser. All of your PC profile information is kept private on your PC and is not sent to any web server.
Use this to see if it identifies your soundcard.
If this does not help you may have to open the case and physically look at the card

your driver is either uninstalled or out of date

try this

1. right click on my computer
2. click manage
3. click device manager
4. there should be a sound card tab somewhere or a yyellow question mark if the driver is uninstalled
5. if there is a yellow question mark just right click on it and click reinstall driver

that should help
and hopefully fix whatever you have

but i have just recently bought some new 5.1 speakers and to get the 5.1 capabilities they gave you and extra litlle sound card which i had never put in and it doesn't even take up a PCI slot you just put it in the back like any other card and the only connection is like an audio cable from the card to the MoBo. oh and this "expansion" card is a CMI8738.
I put the hardware in all fine and dandy and it recognized it and i just put in the driver cd that i originally got with the MoBo and i believe it was when i restarted there was no sound whatsoever.
when i go to control panel>sounds and audio devices, it says there is no audio device.
When i go to device manager it says all sound devices are working properly when i try to play music files or go to volume control i get errors that pretty much say i have no sound or no mixer device installed.
I have gone to all the hardware websites and driver websites and looked for and installed drivers. Most don't work and just cause errors, some appear to work and do things, but don't fix my problem.

Can anyone help me with ideas to fix or suggestions please??
should i just get a new sound card are these old and outdated?

please help

Question: sound problems

Hello.
This is my first time posting a message on this site, but I need help. I am brand new to computers so I do not know the ins and outs of it all nor do I know alot of the technical terminology but I seem to have a major problem. Here goes. Recently within the last 3-4 weeks my sounds started "dissapearing". I can hear some of the system sounds (ie Windows startup and shutdown), but I cannot play any music CDs or hear when I have email. When I go into control panel; sounds and audio devices, there is in the sound playback - "no playback devices", in the sound recording field "no recording devices", and in the MIDI music playback field, "no MIDI playback devices. It is as if my whole audio file does not exist. I don't know what I did. If I deleted something I should not have or what. I spent 5 hours on the phone with Dell and it is not resolved yet. They had me uninstall and reinstall the drivers which went ok, but it did not help with the mp3 files or wav files. When I try to play a music CD it would open it in Windows media player. The songs in the playlist would then turn RED with an exclamation point to the left of the song title, and I got an error message saying windows media player could not play the song. When I clicked on "details" it opened a window telling me I had no soundcard or that it may be being used by another program. I can hear the system sounds but none of the sounds for my music or any sounds for games... Read more

Question: Sound problems

I think I have the same problem as another member. unfortunately, he has received no suggestions as yet
I have an IBM Pentium 3 (1000 Mhz) running Millenium.. I recently had the hard disk wiped and everything reinstalled.

However, I now find that the sound is distorted while playing video or music cdís. It is accelerated making the voices high pitched, rather like Micky Mouse. I have reinstalled the driver for the sound card (AC Ď97í for Intel 82801 BA/BAM controller and I have adjusted the hardware accelerationin the audio properties but the problem persists.

Any suggestsions?

Answer:Sound problems

seeing as nobody replied. Just a guess

Try going into control panel, sound and multimedia, whichever your os has, click on audio, advanced, performance, try turning the hardware acceleration down a notch or two, does it help.

After I finished with that I uninstaklled ASIO4ALL but afterwards programs such as Audacity and Games such as Rocksmith 2014 are not recognizing my audio input/output devices. Music and other sounds play perfectly from youtube, iTunes and Spotify or any other app but audacity just wont recognize any devices. Now the Sound Recorder, Volume Control etc are no longer on my System and when I click on Audio Devices in the Control Panel, my options are greyed out. Can somebody help me on this one?

Question: Sound problems

I was playing a track in media player and when I plugged in the headphones (front panel) they didn't work, also the sound from the speakers wasn't cut off. I then un-plugged the speakers and instead tried the headphones into the rear panel and nothing happened - but then when I plugged them into the front again they worked, but when the speakers where plugged in again (rear) then only the headphones work!! I rebooted and its back the way it was... speakers work but not headphones???
In summary... Replace the speakers (rear panel) with headphones and it switches the sound to the front panel, and it stays that way until rebooted.
I can't think of anything I did to affect this, I tried updating the driver but no change, any ideas anyone?

Question: Sound problems

I was trying to install an older printer on my computer today. I tried two different printers. I installed the drivers from both printers trying to get them to work but to no avail they are just too old and too used.

Well, a little later today my son gets on the PC to plat his game but the sound doesnt work. The PC is also acting sluggish and not wanting to shut down properly.

The media player is playing the file but there is no sound. I am Running Windows 2k with a Creative Soundblaster Live! Value card and software. When I try to access the mixer and speaker settings nothing happens.

I feel like installing and uninstalling the printer drivers and what not have caused this. What are your suggestions?

After a disaster of Titanic proportions, I lost XP as my os. I then loaded Win2000 which found some of my software and drivers, but I have no sound and can't remember what the original soundcard was. Can anyone help please

Answer:Problems with sound

Is the sound from an intergrated sound card on your motherboard or from a PCI sound card. If it is from a PCI sound card, remove the card and look for some identification on the board or on one of the chips, then do a search for that using Google, it should hopefully give you what kind of card you have.CheersJohnBhoy

Question: Sound Problems

I am helping my son and daughter-in-law with their computer. It is a HP Pavillion a705w. It has Win XP SP2 with an integrated sound system. At first it kept locking up, making noises, and running extremely slow, and the modem went bad, and had no sound. We put in a modem and I downloaded the driver for the sound system. I did a system restore, upgraded to IE-7, downloaded Defender and ran auto updates. Still no sound. So I disabled the sound system and we put in a new SoundBlaster 5.1 sound card. It installed fine, recognizes it but under "Control Panel, Sounds", it still says "no audio device". But it also lists the new soundcard and says it is working properly. Could the system still be recognizing the old sound system not allowing the new to operate? The volume is turned up, speakers are working. What can I try?

Peggy

Answer:Sound Problems

Try looking in the BIOS for an option to disable the integrated sound.

Question: sound problems

I downloaded an .avi file. Had video but no sound. Have K-Lite codec pack installed. Ran GSpot Codec Information from that pack which told me I had both the video and audio codecs required already installed - could not get sound through WMP, Nero, Winamp or VLC Media Player.

I decided to run Norton AV on the .avi file. Got a strange message. Went to Norton's site which gave instructions to reboot in Safe Mode, run the AV (nothing found) then reboot in Normal Mode. PC rebooted in Safe Mode (probably didnt press F8 quickly enough) so in that mode I went to msconfig/system configuration utility and told it to start in Normal Mode - load all device drivers and services. Once PC did that I had no sound. Windows could not play its sounds.

I went to Device Manager, all looked well under Sounds. I let Windows Update find an updated driver for what was called RealTek but the driver it downloaded was for my sound card - nvidia nforce - and I got mono sound. Rebooted and got stereo sound - much improved on previous sound and I'm happy with that.

However, I do digital transcription as part of my job and this little piece of software, which they tell me uses Windows sound, has suffered in that its sound has deteriorated badly.

My question is - do you have two sound sources on a PC? 1 for Windows and 1 from the sound card you installed. If so, does anyone know how I can improve the sound from the transcription sofware? It was never great to begin with but a lot better than ... Read more

Answer:sound problems

Thanks a lot.

Sound Problems

Try the sound properties located at control panel first then go here:
http://www.realtek.com.tw/ download the latest driver available, I'm assuming it's an AC97 sound device, then restart computer get into the bios by pressing the 'delete' key as it's booting up, find 'on chip devices' scroll down to sound device and make sure it's enabled. Done. Hope that helps..

Question: Sound problems

Hi,
I have recently had some sound problems with my laptop. The sounda are all playing but the sound quality is terrible. The sounds (especially the music) come out very "metallic" sounding and the voice is very quite. In addition the volume control keys on the keyboard have stopped working and the volume control icon has disaperred from the tray (even though the "display volume control" is checked in the settings).
I have tried changing all of the settings in the sound menu and reinstalling the audio drivers, but nothing seems to help. I have a Dell Inspiron 8600 with a SigmaTel soundcard.
This is the first time this happend and my laptop has worked fine before (i didn't make any changes to the hardware or update any drivers recently).
Does anyone know what the problem may be?
thanks

Answer:Sound problems

Hi mangetsu

. . . and Welcome to the Tech Support Forums!

Two ways to have this problem: a hardware error, or a software error. If you've recently had a power surge, or a spill, or dropped the laptop - the hardware itself could be damaged. That is difficult to troubleshoot - and, when under warranty, is best left for Dell to manage.

But I think it's a strong possibility that it's just a software problem. I'd guess that your drivers and sound configuration aren't right, and that the background process that provides "hotkey" support (so that your volume buttons on your laptop's keyboard work) is no longer running.

The Quick-Fix:
1) Run scans for malware. If a serious infection is found, see the 5-Step Security Checklist over in the Security forums --- http://www.techsupportforum.com/secu...kthis-log.html
2) If the system scans clean right away, try a System Restore, using a restore point from before the trouble started.

To try System Restore:
a) Boot your computer into Safe Mode (start tapping the F8 key as the computer is starting up, and select "Safe Mode" from the Boot Menu).
b) Logon as "Administrator".
c) Click on Start/All Programs/Accessories/System Tools/System Restore, and select a restore point from before trouble started.

3) If you system was severely infected, and you had to delete all your previous Restore points, use your Dell Resource CD to reinstall the drivers for both your keyboard and your sound ... Read more

Question: Sound/Mp3 problems

I'm currently have some sound issues, well I can play CD's thru my CD Player, and sounds on the computer, but when it comes to mp3's it sounds really weird, I tried using an SiS Video & Audio for my Packard Bell computer, I've downloaded it to a disk and its worked before but now it wont seem to work, and its made for packard bell computers, What's going on? How can I resolve this??

Answer:Sound/Mp3 problems

MP3 are not playing that means that even .wav files will not play. Do you hear any sound/music when windows starts or shuts down?

You may need to install your sound drivers again.

If re-installation doesn't solve your problem post back here with some more information about your hardware, OS, Sound Card, etc.

Question: Sound problems

Let me start by saying yes everything is plugged in, not muted and in working order. I rebooted my computer to come back and find it with no sound. Winamp gives me an error when trying to play, i tunes wont open, starcraft II crashes and youtube plays only the video. No system sounds either.

Under device manager there is a yellow ! in the Audio device on high definition audio bus section. says it needs a driver but I use a soundblaster audigy card not onboard so didn't think this would make a difference. I can't find a drive for that anyhow so what to do? Sorry that's probably not the best description but I'm frustrated right now and please ask any questions necessary in order to diagnose better, thanks.

Answer:Sound problems

You need to install the driver for the Sound Blaster Card.

Question: Sound Problems

Hi guys,I'm working on this old machine for a friend of mine. The machine is about 7 or 8 years old. Specs:HP Brio Case350 Watt PSUAMD 3000+ (Single Core)DDR 512 MB40 GB IDE Hard DriveXP Pro (SP3)PCI Wireless CardI get XP installed on this machine (even though I think its a bad idea but he wanted it installed) and everything is fine but its internal sound drivers don't work and it doesn't show up in the Device Manager. Then I try an external sound card and that doesn't work.I'm thinking that the motherboard is dieing or maybe since the case doesn't really keep the internal temp down that heat has damaged something?Any ideas or suggestions?

Answer:Sound Problems

Are you sure that you've installed the correct sound drivers? Where did you get them from? Does the motherboard need the onboard sound to be enabled? If you can tell us what the motherboard is, we might be able to point you in the right direction.
