Preferred Solution: slow computer check hijackthis

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Guys I am looking for someone to check out my Log and give me some advice.

Computer has gotten really slow in the last couple of days. I have ran Spybot, AdAware, and Panda's online scan. I have cleaned many things and the computer runs better for a little while but slows down rather quickly. Must be something that keeps reloading.

Here is the Log and thanks for any help.

My girlfriend's computer has been extremely slow and I've been trying to figure out why and how to get it to work better. I've already run Adaware and Spybot, so I've cleaned anything they're able to find.
Attached is a HijackThis log which I'd like help to tell me what might be causing further problems.

The machine is an Intel Celeron 700MHz, Win98 machine with 64MB of RAM and a 15GB hard drive.

I recently had a very odd person hack my Battle.net (WoW and other Blizzard games) account. Nothing serious happened, but I decided to do a complete check of my PC just to be sure. After running a number of security scans, a friend suggested I round things out with a hjijackthis log here. So far, I've ran complete systems scans with Avira AntiVir, Adaware, Spypot, Malwarebytes and an online scan with Panda. The final few scans found nothing immediately threatening, but a manual check seems a prudent way to round things out. Thanks in advance for any help.

My computer has been doing strange things lately:

First it kept restarting itself and running scandisk microsoft said the problem was related to AOL. I have since reinstalled the AOL software and that problems seems to be better, but not sure if it just hasn't happened again.

Next, my computer has crashed several other times this week and online crash analysis from microsoft have told me several things. One was related to a Memories disc AFS/AFS2k driver, which I have no idea about, but installed some download it recommended to fix it--hopefully I will not recieve that error again.

Now my computer keeps freezing, to the point where I have to hold the button in and turn it off to get the computer working again at all. When I turn the computer back on, it of course runs scandisk, I got some other crash anaylsis yesterday about some driver, but of course before I could fix the problem or save the response, my computer froze again. This has happened like three more times since, but this time with no error logs from microsoft, the computer just starts back up.

I ran spybot, adaware, and a Mcaffe Virus scan all came up clean.
So I thought if no one has any other suggestions why my computer is doing this to me I would post a hijack this log and see what someone more knowlegable might find.

Thanks in advance for any help or suggestions.

I've been working on my fiancee's desktop for the past few days. She's very insistent that I don't uninstall any of the programs in it, so I've updated as many of them as possible. Her 2 teenage daughters do a lot of chatting and on-line gaming. I've run Ad-Aware 2007 and cleaned out over 400 infections. I had a problem with Spybot 1.5.1 losing the internet connection after running a scan with it and cleaning out all the red entries, so I was forced to do a system restore and re-run only Ad-Aware 2007. This is the current log which was run just a few minutes ago. All startup entries, except for AVG and ctfmon.exe, have been unchecked and disabled.

The desktop is a Gateway 500S with an Intel Pentium IV 2.0 GHz processor and 384 MB of PC2700 SDRAM. The hard drive size is 38.2 GB and has 22.0 GB of free space.

Her ISP is Verizon FIOS(2,000 upload/20,000 download). I've currently got it connected to my ISP, BrightHouse Networks Roadrunner(2,000 upload/15,000 download).

I would appreciate any assistance.

Frank

Do an online virus scan at TrendMicro or RAV Antivirus.

Go to this site to remove WeatherBug.

End the following processes:

Do you know what these programs are? If you don?t, you may uninstall it and remove the following entry:

C:\Niagara\r2.301.330\nre\bin\niagarad.exe
O4 - Global Startup: MySoftware NewsFlash.lnk = C:\Program Files\Common Files\MySoftware\Newsflsh.exe

I recommend not putting anything in the Trusted Zone. But if you still want to keep it that way, you may leave the 015 entries alone.

I realize this is a well - covered topic , but I haven't found anything covered thus far in the forums that has helped me regain my machine .

Problem : When I move files from one drive to another , it takes at least 3 times the normal time to complete task ( 120 GB HD has 32GB free ). Burning DVDs , archiving and unarchiving big files ( 700Mb - 3GB ) , encoding movies from avi to DVD same thing ; a LOT slower than normal . Game playing is also affected . Computer takes 3 times longer booting up ; apps , games and programs take 3 times the time to load . Surfing the web and internet activities seem strangely unaffected . My computer was working fine one day and BOOM slow as hell the next .

I have run ADAware SE pro , spy bot , spyware doctor and removed all spyware found successfully . Full virus scan with updated definitions with Norton antivirus 2005 . I have downloaded from the manufaturers and run HD diagnostic programs ( extended ) for my 120 GB Western Digital and my 20 GB Maxtor HDs with no errors . I have defragged both drives . Still no improvement . I have run Checkit (norton) diagostics on my RAM , HDS , cpu with all reported as normal .

HELP !!!!!!

Upon running the Checkit Diagnostics , I get the initial error ,
C:\PROGRA~!\Checkit\DIAGNO~!\dmi.exe
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\AUTOEXEC.NT . The system is not suitablefor running MS-DOS and Microsoft Windows applications . Choose close to terminate the application.

Heja

My computer is often running extremely slowly, particularly Firefox. Programs keep 'freezing', so I decided to run an AVG virus and spyware scan, but it returned nothing. However, my Windows Task Messenger shows that my computer is running lsass.exe, csrss.exe and smss.exe, programs I don't know and might be trojans according to some websites.

Please check this log for me:

Hello!

My computer works OK and fast, but suddenly when doing something like browsing or writing, it becomes very slow - practically unusable. Until I reset it, then it's OK again for some 15 mins - 30 mins. Then it slows down again suddenly. I know there can be many reasons for this, but please help me check if there is some malware on it. If I open Task manager when computer is slow, I see few "normal" processes (like Task manager) eating much of CPU. Like 5 processes eating ca. 20% each.

Here are my logs (pasted and attached):

Answer:Very slow computer - check log please

Hello rapada,

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad since you will not have any of browsers open while you are fixing this.

Download CleanUp! (Alternate Link if main link doesn't work) and install it. Do not run it yet.

---------------------------

Open My Computer. Select the View menu and click Folder Options. Select the View Tab then select Show all files in the Hidden files section. Also make sure there is no checkmark beside Hide file extensions for known file types. Click OK.

Next, please reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following:
1) Restart your computer
2) After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, press F8.
3) Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu should appear
4) Use the up arrow key to highlight Safe Mode and press Enter.

---------------------------

Run a scan in HijackThis. 'Check' each of the following if they still exist (make sure not to miss any):

F1 - win.ini: run=c:\windows\options\systools\cyxid98.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [FontFix] c:\windows\options\systools\fntfix.exe

Running W7, 64 bit. Computer has been slowing down recently, especially with my DSL Internet Connection. DSL company ran some remote tests and says all is well.

Tried an "error checking" program, found ~600 "errors", but they want $$ to fix.

Does W7 have some kind of built-in error tester/fixer (chkdsk?) and how do I use it?

Please, I need step-by-step instructions, because I'm not real good with computers.

Hello 14zer0!

Open Task Manager (ctrl+alt+delete) and choose the "Processes" tab.
Find and "End Process" the following process:
sistray.exe

Turn off System Restore by right-clicking on My Computer and choosing "Properties". Click on the "System Restore" tab and put a tick next to "Turn System Restore off". Click "OK".

Go to My Computer and click on "Tools" then "Folder Options. Click on the "View" tab and make sure that "Show hidden files and folders" is enabled. Click "OK".

Find and delete the following file:
C:\WINDOWS\System32\sistray.exe

Download Ad-Aware SE from here:
http://www.download.com/3000-2144-10045910.html?part=69274&subj=dlpage&tag=button

Install and run Ad-Aware SE. On the bottom right corner of Ad-Aware you will see an option called "Check for updates now", click on that and choose "connect". Download the updates. Next click on "Scan now" on the left side of Ad-Aware. Make sure that "Search for negligible risk entries" is crossed out and not ticked. Choose "Perform full system scan" and click "Next". After Ad-Aware scans your computer, Ad-Aware may find some bad files on your computer so make sure you tick them all and choose "Next". It will ask if you want to remove those items so just continue. After removing the items close Ad-Aware.

Can you please check my log. I have my laptop pretty well cleaned thanks to Cookie, but my husbands is a mess. I downloaded and ran 2 malware programs that were recommended (malwarebytes and super anti). Both found stuff in cookies and deleted them. The computer runs extremely slow and won't even open 2 windows or more without hearing it running in the background. Please let me know what my next step is in fixing this problem. THANK YOU!!

Hi,

I am helping my stepmother out with her computer because she was complaining about it running very slowly. I have ran both Spybot S&D and Ad-Aware SE. Spybot removed some items and also Ad-Aware removed lots of cookies. I also was checking Task Manager items against a search engine and found some things such as Trojans may not have been removed completely. I have posted a HJT log so if anyone can take a look to see if it is ok. Thank You.

While we try our hardest to avoid them, accidents do happen. With today's malware being as it is, we will not be held responsible for any loss of your data. You are following the instructions given at your own risk. We recommend that you back up any data that’s important to you beforehand, just in case the worst happens.

1. As a general rule, to offset any unexpected mishaps, your personal data should be backed up regularly. If you do not already have a process in place that backs up your data, it is highly recommended you do this now. Click here here for guidelines on what to back up and how to do it.

2. Uninstall the following via Add or Remove Programs in Control Panel:

If you have more than one antivirus software installed, leave only ONE and uninstall the others.
CD emulation software, such as DAEMON Tools or Alcohol, see this page for complete instructions. These can be reinstalled once any malware removal efforts are completed.

p2p programs like uTorrent, Bittorrent, LimeWire, Morpheus, etc., as they are a major conduit for malware and a likely source of your current issues.

Disable your AntiVirus and AntiSpyware applications, usually via a right click on the System Tray icon. They may otherwise interfere with our tools.
If you are not sure how to disable see this help page.

I am running Ad-aware, spybot SD, AVG, and Norton Internet Security, none of which can find anything wrong. All of a sudden the computer "waits" before loading web pages. Is there something wrong?

When I load a webpage, I often see a "view atdmt.com" in the notification bar briefly. Also I occasionally see something called "ad gardener," but that may be related to the specific webpage that is loading (ads on the page?).

Thanks for any help you can give.

Hi,

Recently been having some trouble with my computer lagging and there are a lot of times where I try to click on something, for example try to close a program... it does not respond. Other times, the mouse seems to have gotten very sensitive, sometimes i may have hovered over an icon, but then the program launches. I have tried to check the touchpad settings to see if somehow the settings has been changed to make it more senstive, however, nothing has changed since I last modified the settings. There is a lot of other weird things that happens... it seems as if the computer is off on its own.

I suspect there is some kind of virus. I was wondering if anyone can help me check my HijackThis Log. Thank you very much in advance!

by the way, if it helps.. I have a Dell Inspiron Notebook, running on Windows XP.

This is the most recent HijackThis Log.

The other day my antivirus software detected a virus and it allegedly removed it but my computer was still acting strange. Then I downloaded spyware doctor and it too found and removed the virus. My Computer is freezing up constantly. I'm not sure if I have a virus or if maybe I have too many programs running. Can someone please help me?

i am not encountering any major issues with my computer only that it is running a little slower than usual, and lately a lot of my thumbnails for folders are getting stupidly mixed up although im sure this isn't a major issue. So like when i make a new folder its thumbnail seems as if its been picked out of a hat from my hundreds of photos and album cover images. once again, im not sure if this is characteristic of any sort of technical issue but it would be nice to know why this is happening. I do look after it with ad-ware programs, anti-virus, clean ups and de-frags etc but i have been told to give hijack this a go to see if everything is alright. here is my most recent log. thanks in advance.

Computer seems to be busy (doing more than my stuff). As per old threads, tried to check csrss location by right click in task manager- but nothing shows; how do I find it's location?

Btw, one of the old comments indicated it was "the only process w/o a description", but I notice conhost.exe has two entries, the first of which also has no description. They have 256k & 264k memory use respectively. Is this odd or a problem?

Much thanks to all

Answer:computer slow, trying to check location of csrss

csrss.exe is located in C:\Windows\System32.

Let me search for conhost.exe and I will type the answer.

Computer and browser slowness are not always malware related. Poor performance and other problems can be the result of disk fragmentation, disk errors, corrupt system files, unnecessary services running, not enough RAM, dirty hardware components, too many toolbars, BHOs, extensions and add-ons/plug-ins attached your browser and failure to clear browser cache. Sometimes Add-ons cause browsers to quit unexpectedly or not perform properly especially, if it was poorly designed or was created for an earlier browser version. Incompatible browser extensions and add-ons can also impact system performance and cause compatibility issues such as application hangs (freezing). As you use your system it becomes filled with more files/programs and has a natural tendency to slow down and behave oddly so cleaning and regular maintenance is essential. Listed below are a few things you can do to improve speed and system performance. When was the last time you cleaned the inside of your computer? Dust restricts the airflow and prevents proper cooling. This in turn can cause overheating and faulty processor fans which can result in unexpected shutdowns, random restarts, booting problems, etc. If you use a notebook, they get dirty too and need to be cleaned.
Clean out the vents on the computer with a can of compressed air to ensure that they are not clogged with dust.
Unplug the computer, open the case and clean out any dust and debris you find inside. Be careful not to aim the compressed air direc... Read more

I'm particularly suspicious of the 4h8. exe (O4) and 2xx.exe (O4) entries.

I've run my Norton Anti-virus and found nothing. Ad-Aware didn't locate a problem as well.

Also I have a problem shutting off the computer.
Whenever I try to shut down it just restarts and I have to manually switch the machine off from the actual power button on the box!

Any ideas as to why this may be happening? I'd appreciate any insight.

Could someone please look this over and let me know if there's anything out of order, I'd really appreciate it.

Thanks!
Manozi

Answer:Solved: HJT check please. Computer and internet very slow

16 more replies
Relevance 52.07%

Hi,

Below is the HJT Log, could someone please review this. Most of the downloaded programs (O16) on my log are not showing up on my add/remove list. The only program that I still use is Ofoto. If they are not showing up on my add/remove list, then how can I remove these from my computer?

Also, on my add/remove list there is a "BUM" ... I'm not sure what this is and have not seen it on there before. Could someone tell me what this is and if I should remove it?

My computer runs extreme slow and I end up rebooting two/three times an hour. Sometimes there is a lag every few minutes. Most of the time when I reboot my computer I lose my internet connection and need to unplug my cable modem and if that doesn't work, then I reboot again till I get my connection back.

If there is additional information needed, please let me know.

Thank you for your help.
Lisa

MBytes found 6 instances of PUP.Optional.RegCleanPro. I told MB to remove. The next scan I ran of MB came out clean. I am including both logs.

Computer is slow. Hitman Pro, I believe found two instances of Ask.toolbar. We installed 2 gigs of ram a while back. Initially made some improvement but now it boots slow again and bogs down in the browser.

Not sure if we can add more ram or if it will make any difference.
