Preferred Solution: uninstalling XP pro

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: uninstalling XP pro

I think I would try another version of aim. I do believe you will have to format to go back to home edition. There are older versions of aim here.
http://www.aimfilez.com/?id=aimversions

I don't see why aim wouldn't work on pro. It always did for me. Did you try uninstalling, rebooting and reinstalling aim?

I have NAV 2004 installed. Two weeks ago, updated it using LiveUpdate, and it has ceased to operate. Purchased NAV 2007, tried to install it, but NAV 2007 directs me to uninstall NAV 2004 using Add/Remove Programs. I have tried to uninstall NAV 2004 using Add/Remove Programs, to no avail.

I am aware that I could use Norton's Removal Tool, but I am assuming that this would also uninstall Norton Partition Magic 8.0 -- and I've lost the installation CD (moved twice since then) for Partition Magic 8.0. Does anyone know of a way to uninstall NAV 2004, but leave Partition Magic 8.0 intact? Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Tony

Answer:Uninstalling NAV 2004 w/o Uninstalling Norton Partion Magic 8.0

I would take a look at the 'tool.' You may be able to select what you want removed. S/N has changed itd recommended removal procedure many times. Below is the link to their currently recommended "tool.' It may or may not be the one you have in mind.

Having made a removal attempt otherwise may compromise the operation of the 'tool.' S/N has another 'tool' that is supposed to overcome encounterted problems with the primary 'too.'
So it goes with S/N!! They really don't want their "stuff" removed.

I have a problem with a software programme (Photomatix) I tried to uninstall due to a problem with the programme, before reinstalling. In Add/Remove programmes I supposedly uninstalled Photomatix. Then went to website to download it again but got message saying it was already running and to close before downloading. Checked Add/Remove programmes - not there. Went into Windows Explorer - did a search and the supposedly uninstalled files were there. Moved them into program files. Back to Add/Remove programmes - not there. Downloaded a couple of freeware uninstallers including Revo Uninstaller - still didn't show up in list. How the heck can I uninstall this software from my pc? (Using Win XP currently). Thanks! Sassie

Answer:Problem uninstalling software after uninstalling

Try the un-install again using (you might need to re-install Photomatix first)click hereDuring the un-install process you may be asked if you want to re-start your computer, DO NOT re-start at this point, let Revo continue. You will eventually get the option to Select All and to Delete - DO SO. You may be given the same options a second time, again DO SO, do not be picky, just accept all that Revo chooses. After clicking on Finish, re-start your computer.

Question: Uninstalling XP

Simple question (i think) ...so I purchased the XP home edition upgrade last spring, I really like it but I need to uninstall it to move it to a diff. computer in our house. If I uninstall it ... the serial # will become valid again right? I just want to make sure before I do it b/c I don't want to loose my $100+ purchase.

Thx. Christine

Answer:Uninstalling XP

If it is a Retail version (didn't come with a sticker with the keycode, instead it was in the folder the cd was in), then the answer is Yes. You can remove the upgrade from one pc to install it on a different one.

Since I installed SP2 on my XP Home edition computer it runs very slowly and keeps hanging up. How do I uninstall SP2?

Bill

Answer:Uninstalling XP SP2

Go to add/remove software and choose to uninstall SP2 from there.

Most of the time, when SP2 fails, it is due to spyware and/or viruses.

I was attempting to uninstall WMP 9,mainly just because it's aggravating to use.It said that if i delete it then it could affect other programs.

If i do delete this program, will i still be able to use other programs such as Real Player?

Answer:Uninstalling WMP 9.

Well, according to Microsoft, there is no uninstall for WMP9. I've seen several folks say they can delete it, but I've never tried it. OTOH, if you just install other utilities and change the file associations to use the other applications, you can just ignore WMP9.

Hi

I wanted to reinstall my windows xp, and reformat c, changing it from fat32 to ntfs, but after reboot to start installing, xp said it cannot reformat c as it has necessary files for the current setup process, so I installed in a different partition.

I've had bad experience with 2 xp's running in same system, for crashes happen somtimes. Anyhow, since I dont need the old installation of xp, I want to un-install it. I could just reformat c now. But also a previous experience taught me that this does not seem to be the rught procedure, as the startup file would still carry 2 boot choices. I once deleted the old choice, then my system never booted again!!!

So, what is the ideal way to un-install the old xp installation?
Its not listed in 'add/remove programs' like win. me used to be.

Thanks in advance for your help.

I attempted to unistall XP SP2. The uninstall appeared to be fine, except not computer takes about 5 minutes to boot up. It gets stuck on the blue, 'Windows is starting up' screen for 4 to 5 minutes and then starts. I noticed that I still have a few things that are related to SP2 still on my computer such as the Firewall and Security Center located in the Control Panel leading me to believe that SP2 has not unistalled properly. I have tried to use the recovery program, but it says that it can not located the file after I make the first entry (cd $NtServicePackUninstall$\Spuninst). This makes sense to me, because I have already half uninstalled it. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to completely get rid of SP2 and make my computer boot up like it used to?

Answer:Uninstalling XP SP 2

Try a system Restore. Also check your boot.ini file make sure nothing werid is booting up along with WinXP.

I"m posting this on behalf of my son so hope I get the questions right!

A quick run down, his old computer running ME packed up. Went out yesterday and bought new computer, the tower does not have a floppy drive in it. It comes with XP already loaded.

He hates XP for some reason and wants to put ME as the operating system on it. So he needs to know how does he uninstall XP to reload ME without using a floppy disk to format the drive. Can he use a windows ME CDRom to do this somehow?

Also the new computers file system is NTFS so can he use ME on this file system or not?

Why he wants to use ME is beyond me for a start but no he just has to be different! So any advice is much appreciated. Will get back to any replies ASAP. Thanks in advance.

Ok the stupid system has pissed me off enough. Everytime I try to boot to XP Pro it always restarts by itself even in safe mode. Ok so how do I go by uninstalling this bugger from my hd? I didn't install it on a different partition I installed it to the primary drive just to a different folder and named it "winxpro". If I delete the folder, the operating system would still be there right? So how do I remove it?

Answer:Uninstalling XP PRO

The easy way to get it off your system is to reformat your hd. But you will loose all data. Just before you do that, transfer the data you want on another drive.

Question: Uninstalling SP2?

I was just wondering, how do you uninstall SP2? it's not in my add or remove programs. if i search for ServicePack2, nothing comes up. and i tried to do the 3 things they had on the microsoft web site, but none of that worked. So I am guessing its built in. Does anyone have any idea's on how to uninstall it?

Answer:Uninstalling SP2?

If it is built into the OS I dont think you can remove individually. I would get an XP disc that only has service pack 1 slipstreamed into it and run a repair on your OS. Perhaps someone can tell your differntly though.

Due to circumstances that were probably completely within my control, i need to reinstall windows, because at present i cant login to my computer. I Patched a copy of XP pack 2, then updated windows but it would seem that Microsoft closed that little loop-hole rather quickly. And i have to uninstall before i reinstall, because windows wont let me reinstall an older version. And i only seem to have access to dos, so does anyone know the best way to uninstall xp from dos, so i can then load the disk i have back on? And it wont affect my music, pictures or documents that i have on my computer will it? Thanks in advance guys.

Brissycowboy

Answer:Uninstalling Xp Via Dos

"And i only seem to have access to dos,..."

There is no DOS in XP. There is however an NTFS Command prompt. Is this what you mean by the above?

Are the "files" you wish to preserve on the same hard disk partition as the XP install?

Is this partition FAT32 or NTFS?

I'll state up front that I'm not yet proficient in XP, so you may want to wait for other opinions/expertise before you act on the following.

You can obtain some XP start up disks (there's four or six) from here. Boot with these to get the system running. You could then start deleting the XP startup files etc which should allow XP to load again. OR, create new sub directories to move the files you wish to save to, then delete the Windows directory.

My apologies to all the members/visitors who have previously reported an inability to uninstall MS.NET...via Add/Remove Programs.I replied from ignorance, based on my experiences with MS.NET uninstalls which I had perfomed in prior years...but those uninstalls were dated and not supplemented by any recent attempts to do so. So I have been asserting that users have misinterpreted the warning message that...used to be given when uninstalling earlier versions/editions of MS.NET.But...things have changed .Today I decided to try it...and I was greeted with a message politely telling me that I would not be able to uninstall the various versions of MS.NET which were reflected in Add/Remove Programs. I was somewhat shocked, so I went down the list to the next MS.NET item in Add/Remove...same story.I know Microsoft well enough to realize that I must be making the error, I can uninstall anything that appears in Add/Remove Program...so I changed my way of thinking. Instead of starting at the top of the list of items, I started at the bottom...with the most recent (3.5, SP1).It uninstalled properly and disappeared.I then went up the list to the next most recent MS.NET install...it promptly uninstalled, where it had previously refused to do so.And this continued until I had uninstalled the 3-5 items I had previously reflected in Add/Remove Programs as being part of the MS.NET Framework series (including SPs).Once that was done, I simply downloaded installed the current MS.NET 3.5, SP1 ... Question: uninstalling .NET

Anyone know what .NET is used for and if uninstalling it will cause problems in other software programs?

Long story short a "possible" fix was given to me for a CAD program which involves uninstalling .NET 3.0 .NET 2.0 and .NET 1.1 then reinstalling 3.0.

Of course I would like to know if this is going to cause me problems with say Microsoft Office or any other programs.

Anyone know anything about .NET or how I can tell what programs may be affected by uninstalling .NET ?

Answer:uninstalling .NET

Should be OK, as long as none of your programs use the earlier versons of .NET
Running these other programs will either work or let you know you need an earlier version. You can, of course, then download the earlier .NET version.

Question: Uninstalling

I had installed Adobe soundbooth some time back.

After the term expired, I had uninstalled it. Immidiatly after that I had to do a system restore for some reason, and the soundbooth came back!!!!

Now I just can not uninstall it. It is asking me to reinstall the application and I will not do so.

Is there any way I can uninstall it. It is taking a lot of spaces in my hard drive.

There are couple of other stubbern programmes which will not get unistalled through Add or remove programme, and I want to remove those also.

I just do not want to delete the files from the C:Programme file I need to completly uninstall and remove the registry entries.

My system is

Win XP SP2, 250 GB HDD, Core 2 Duo 6300, 2GB RAM, Nvidia 7900 GS 512 MB.

Answer:Uninstalling

If those programs use Windows Installer to install, then you can try using Windows Installer CleanUp Utility 1.0.And I think you can restore your system restore by restoring it before the system restore.

Can anyone help me?

Hey all- I know nothing about NT, but have a system with it installed. I am putting together a system for a friend and want to format the drive and put Windows 98SE on it. The problem is that I don't have a choice to boot into any other Windows environment at boot other than the NT. So, I can't format the drive! *Arg!*

I don't have any of the NT disks. I have tried to boot from the 98 disk, but it doesn't seem to work.

I appreciate the help.

Kellam

Answer:Uninstalling NT 4.0

Hi There,
You are saying that this PC that you are building for your friend has only got Win NT on it and not both Win NT and Windows 98.

If it is the case, that there is only Windows NT on it.
To get rid of Win NT: (backup data first before doing this)
Boot the computer with a Windows 98 boot disk
It will come up with an error saying it cannot find a valid Fat16 or Fat32 and will give you possible reason like a virus or something.
Ignore that message
When you are at the A: prompt
Go into fdisk and delete the partition which is a non-dos partition
Then create a primary dos partition that uses all the space if you like.
Exit fdisk and restart you computer.
Boot from the boot disk again and format the drive from the virtual disk drive which usually is d: with format c: /s
You can continue from there, installing Win 98.
Make sure your CD ROM works with the boot disk or you will need the CD Rom drivers.

Hope that helps

but what im thinking is you were running IE6 and then installed IE7 correct? if so it prob installed as an update so when you uninstalled IE7 it automaticly reverted back to IE6 cuz all you really did was uninstalled the update. thats my best guess.

Hi Everyone.
I used to have w98 but I have just bought a new computer and it has XP home.
I installed AVG until I could find my pc-cillin cd rom. I have just uninstalled AVG and it says that it couldn't remove these items:
C:\PROGRA~1
AVG_CC6: 2
AVGCC6: 2
AVGW: 2

As I do not want a clash of programmes, I was wondering if these will affect pc-cillin. I have run reg cleaner but it didn't find anything. I also did a search and some things came up, but not these.
Many thanks in advance.

Answer:Help with Uninstalling

This shouldn't be a problem.. The first one I think is the program directory path, which in many cases doesn't get deleted... so no worries.

I don't know what these are:
AVG_CC6: 2
AVGCC6: 2
AVGW: 2

If you have a general feeling that AVG is uninstalled adequetly, (which it should be) then proceed with PC-Cillin.

To make sure, look in the AVG application folder.. if the EXE's are still there, then thats a problem.. however if only a few logs and text files are there, then I would believe AVG is uninstalled. AVG seems to uninstall cleanly compared to some others.... (cough cough Norton)

Ive had NFS 3: Hot Pursuit installed for a long time now. Since im clearing out disk space and dont play it alot(and it takes up 230 megs) ive decided to uninstall it. I went into add/remove programs and clicked to uninstall it. It started to work, then froze. I waited a while then closed it. I started the uninstaller back up again, but it said it couldnt find the file called DeIsL2.isu. I did a search for the file on my computer, nothing came up. Then i noticed that the file DeIsL1.isu is still in the NFS 3 folder. I looked in the recycle bin and i cant find it still. Any idea what coulda happened to it, and if its gone, would a copy of it work?

Question: uninstalling xp

I messed up my XP settings, so i tried to reinstall it. I didn't know I was partitioning it however, so I'm stuck with 2 XPs. When I tried to uninstall it said "You have already partitioned your hard drive" or something like that and now the uninstall icon is gone and I'm stuck with 2 XPs. Is there any other way to uninstall them safely, and if not, where can I get a good hard drive formatter program? ( Preferably Free )

Answer:which way is best for uninstalling?

Hi, I think it is a case of 6 of 1 half-a-dozen-of-the-other. I usually use a programs built-in uninstaller; but I suppose this could intentionally leave bits on your hdd for whatever reason. Just my opinion, perhaps others know better! lol

I and my son have collected a lot of uninstallable junk. Wouldn't uninstalling Win 98 clean out my hard drive and start fresh? If so, how do I uninstall Win98? My uninstaller doesn't list it under installed items.

Answer:Uninstalling Win 98 ?

Well, since I just re-installed Windows like 4 times this weekend I'll try to help you.

First, uninstalling Windows will not clean you hard drive of all the junk. You should maybe reformat the hard drive and then redo windows.

As far as uninstalling Windows. If you don't have the "Uninstall Windows98" in the add/remove programs in the control panel try this.

Boot to dos.
At the c: prompt type deltree Windows

and choose yes when prompted. This will delete windows and all of its directories. Now you can reinstall Windows fresh.

Well, I hope this helps.

Question: Uninstalling app

I just bought a new HP laptop which came with the usual HP installed crap. When I view "All apps" on the start menu, I view the "games" category which lists the games in order. I click on the game and it takes me to a website, no biggie. The bottom line is, I'm not really a game player and would like to remove these apps. I understand they aren't requiring much space but I simply want them gone. When I click "uninstall", I'm reverted to the "control panel" uninstall programs window. The problem is, I don't find these games there nor any indication of them. There was a program called "Wild Tangent" which I know was an HP program for games and thought that was it, but after uninstalling, the apps still appear.

Can someone tell me how to rid of these game apps?

Thank you

Answer:Uninstalling app

For certain programs you need to uninstall them from the Uninstall Programs control panel. If the app still appears, then you will need to uninstall the app as well. You can use this tutorial to learn how to do so:How to uninstall an App in Windows 8

Question: Uninstalling help

I've been having some trouble with a video game on my computer so I went to reinstall it but I can't seem to uninstall the game in the usual way.  I go to Add or Remove Programs and when I hit the Change/Remove button it says that the game cannot be uninstalled until the expansion packs have been uninstalled, however all the expansion pack are uninstalled.  When I put the CD in nothing happens and it refuses to work saying that the files have been moved or corrupted.  Is there an alternate way to uninstall or remove this game?  My OS is Windows XP and the offending game is The Sims 2.  Also, I don't know if it matters but when I was done uninstalling the expansion packs the files were still on my computer and I had to delete them.  I also tried system restore but that didn't help. Thanks to anyone who can help in advance.

Answer:Uninstalling help

Welcome aboard QuoteI don't know if it matters but when I was done uninstalling the expansion packs the files were still on my computer and I had to delete them. There is a good chance, it was your mistake. Those files may be needed by original game uninstaller. It can't find them, and it complains.Try to install game one more time, like nothing happened, THEN uninstall expansion pack, first (don't delete any files yourself), and the game, next.

I have a new PC with Windows 7 but have an older computer with Windows XP as I have a CADD program that will not run on Windows 7. I installed SP3 some time ago and have not used the CADD program since. I used it the other day and when I went to print it would not function correctly so contacted the company that pulishes the CADD program and after explaining the problem they told me the problem was caused by SP3 and I have to uninstall it.
I went to control panel-add remove programs and tried to uninstall it. It went through the first four of the five steps just fine but when it got to Running processes before uninstall it came up with a message stating The system cannot find the file specified, but did not specify the file. Then it said The Service Pack 3 was not uninstalled.
I follwed methods one and two of the instructions at the following link but neither of them worked and both gave the same results as above (which wasn't surprising).
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/950249
I am apprehensive about using method 3 as I have installed a fair amount of software since installing SP3.
I have not tried method 4 as I do not have a Windows XP installation disk, only a recovery disk that came with the computer.
I would appreciate knowing if there is anything else I can try before restoring to a previous restore point or another method that may avoid having to reinstall a lot of software.
Thank you

Ever since we installed sp3 my computer has had nothing but trouble. It locks up and freezes to the point I have to hit restart button on the computer every few minutes. Microsoft was no help and after 2 hours on the phone with them they tell me to take the computer to a tech! The tech wants 120 dollars just to look at the computer ..money I cannot afford.

I have tried to remove it using add/remove and get an error saying it couldnt locate files and aborts uninstall.

I cannot roll back the computer because it was more than 30 days ago.

Making matters worse is when i tired to update my graphics drivers..ATI didnt warn anyone that the multimedia center is not compatable with SP3 and ATI said it ws not updating the MMC because that software is discontinued but they will continue to update the drivers for it. Unfortunately they didnt warn anyone bout this before updating and that caused my computer to start acting up. I have been told by ATI and Microsoft that sp3 has to be removed from the computer, but I it just wont remove! The uninstaller contiues to say there is an error and aborts the uninstall. I have tried reinstalling sp3 to see if that would replace the files but of course that didnt work either.

How can I get this thing off my computer

Question: Uninstalling Rc1

Okay, I downloaded RC1, installed it on a seperate partition, ran it, said "ooh pretty!" then got bored. How do I go about unistalling it?

I want to go back to my old setup (which is still there and accessible) of dual booting with XP and 2000. My only concern is the Vista bootloader. If I reformat the Vista partition, will the old bootloader screen come back? As it is, I have to use the Vista bootloader and select "Old Windows Installation" and then select whether I want XP or 2000. When I run msconfig in XP, it shows the old bootloader setup and doesn't mention Vista.

Answer:Uninstalling Rc1

In addition to deleting the Vista partition, there's 4 files/folders in the root of your boot drive that need to go.

Boot folder
bootmgr file
bootsect.bak file
and one other that I don't seem to have on my system (prolly the bootsect.*** file)

I found this info with a google for "uninstall vista" after reading a few of the search results.

Then, check your boot.ini file to ensure that no changes were made to it (there wasn't anything significant in mine).

I've done many uninstalls this way and have only had one problem (having to select Windows twice from 2 different boot menus) in order to get it to load. This was with the pre-RC1 release.

Question: Uninstalling TOR

Hi All -- I wanted to uninstall TOR and followed the instructions online, about going to start/programs and clicking the "vidalia" uninstall button. That was supposed to uninstall a package containing TOR, and all its associated components (like Polipo, the TOR button for Firefox, etc.). So I did that, then out of curiosity went to start/search and looked for any files or folders with an TOR associated name. To my surprise, lots of files came up. Then I went to RevoUninstall, to see if it would even show me that TOR was still on my system, and it didn't.

I really don't know a lot about TOR, but have fiddled around with it out of curiosity. I think what I found were components of TOR from another install...a previous version. Anyway, after finding that I still had various TOR files on the system, and after seeing that my system was not recognizing another TOR 'package', I just manually deleted those files. Some tor-related prefetch files were in the mix, and I deleted those too.

Is there anything else I can do to ensure all those old TOR files are off my system? I am worried that I now have junk in the registry related to TOR. Would cleaning the registry help? I know many do not recommend this, but I have used CCleaner for that for years, without any problems.

I did read up on TOR's FAQ section about how to uninstall, and I did follow their instructions. Then I found lots of old (or at least I think they were) TOR files. Here'... Read more

Answer:Uninstalling TOR

I would try reinstalling TOR then reboot then remove it and reboot again.

Hi. I have Windows XP Home Edition. I would like to completely uninstall Internet Explorer from this computer (my aim is to prevent any internet access on this machine). Right now I have IE 8, as well as Service Pack 3. I read online that I need to uninstall SP3 prior to uninstalling IE 8 (apparently since I installed IE 8 prior to SP3). I also read that once I uninstall IE 8, it will revert to IE 7. But I want to be COMPLETELY rid of Internet Explorer on my machine. Can somebody please tell me how to do this? Right now my thinking is that I would need to do the following sequence:

1. Uninstall SP3
2. Uninstall IE 8
3. Uninstall IE 7
4. If I end up with IE 6 after uninstalling IE 7, then my next step would be to delete IE 6. However, I read online that deleting IE 6 can be tough.

I would appreciate anyone's insight and help, thanks...

Answer:Need help uninstalling IE from XP

The way to prevent Internet access...is simply to disable the NIC in the BIOS...or remove it if it is a physical card.

Removing IE...would not solve anything, even if it were possible.

Any user can install an alternate browser on Windows, as long as the hardware is there. Installing a browser with no hardware capability to connect...is pointless. Do a Google search sometimes, using "browser".

I've come here after using my other options. The question is in bold.

A month ago I purchased and received a computer. It was delivered and I went on vacation and came back to find 3 days left on WPA (it did not pop-up on first boot). The key would not work, and I called windows and they asked me to talk to the company I bought it from.

After a few days of e-mails and over 5 phone calls I have not been helped. One thing I've noticed is that my invoice reads Windows XP Home but the CD and key attached to my computer are Professional. I'm not sure if that is the issue, but right now I'd like to uninstall because I'm locked out of windows with this damn WPA popping up.

Answer:WPA and uninstalling

Take the computer back. Put it on the counter. Don't take no for an answer. Calmly stand there and repeat your demand in an ordinary speaking voice as often as necessary to get satisfaction. It's not your problem-it's theirs. Either get a functioning computer with a CD or your money back. Not "We'll fix it." or "Here's what you can do. "New machine or dollars.
End of story.

Is there an Uninstall program in the Start Menu? Go to Start>>Programs>>DeepBurner>>Uninstall.

If there is an Uninstall option, click on it and follow the on-screen instructions and you should be able to remove it. However, if there isn't, report back to us.
