Oulook 2000 won't run

Question: Oulook 2000 won't run

My kids claim that they didn't do anything, but when I sat down to check my email tonight I found that Outlook won't run.

I get that message that Outlook failed to start correctly last time and to choose to start in safe mode. I choose "yes" but it still fails to run.

I tried "outlook /safe" from Start>Run but that failed and started "detect and repair", which said something about XP and Front Page. But that also didn't help.

I also looked in the Control Panel>Add/Remove Progs to find the repair option but no Office stuff is in there.

Thanks for any suggestions

Preferred Solution: Oulook 2000 won't run

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Oulook 2000 won't run

Try repair again , following these steps .

Repair Outlook
http://www.ecu.edu/itcs/outlookproj/OutlookRepair/Outlook 2000 Repair.htm
Like the rest of the Office 2000 family, Outlook 2000 includes some self-diagnostic and self-repair tools. If Outlook determines that a part of its core files have been damaged or deleted, for example, it recommends that you run a repair program so that it can fix itself. Likewise, if you notice that something is amiss, you can use Outlook's Detect and Repair features to let Outlook fix itself.

Step 1: Choose Detect and Repair

If Outlook begins to behave oddly or crash unexpectedly, key files may have been damaged. You can let Outlook repair itself by choosing Help, Detect and Repair from the menu bar.

Step 2: Start the Repair

Outlook displays the Detect and Repair dialog box. Click the Start button to begin the diagnostic process.

Step 3: Wait for Outlook

It may take several minutes while Outlook gets ready to perform its diagnostic. Stand by while Outlook readies itself.

Step 4: Close Outlook

You may see an unmarked dialog box with one or more programs listed. This dialog box indicates that you have to close the programs before Outlook can proceed. Close the necessary programs and then click the Cancel button on the dialog box.

Step 5: Insert the CD-ROM

Outlook will probably request the CD-ROM that contains Outlook 2000. Insert that disc in your CD-ROM drive and click OK to continue.

Step 6: Outlook Repairs Itself

Outlook reads data from the CD-ROM and makes the appropriate repairs to itself. If there was a problem, Outlook should be as good as new when the procedure is complete.

HELP! I have Office 2000 and Outlook just stopped running yesterday - I didn't install or uninstall anything! When I click the Outlook icon, the hourglass tries to load, but Outlook doesn't ever open. When I check the system processes, Outlook is listed there (sometimes two or three times) but it's not running in the "applications" area.

I can make it run in safe mode. I have already completely uninstalled Office 2000 and re-installed it.

HELP - I don't know what to do!

Answer:[SOLVED] Oulook 2000 listed in processes but won't open

If Outlook starts in Safe mode, the problem could be the outcmd.dat file in the application data\microsoft\outlook
folder is corrupt. Rename or delete this file while Outlook is closed.
When you restart Outlook, the folder will be recreated.

Old pc running windows 2000 OS and outlook 2003. i copied the outlook.nk2 file from its location to another computer running windows 7 professional, and outlook 2007. The .pst files and the archives files copied to the new location working alright but the cached file, outlook.nk2 does not work.

The location copied to on the computer running windows 7 is c\users\%user%\applcation data\local\microsoft\outlook.

I just found the solution for the problem. the outlook.nk2 location in windows 7 is in the roaming folder so the path C\users\%user%\Appdata\roaming\microsoft\outlook and it worked.

I am new here; this is my first time asking for help. And I know very little about computers to boot. But I have a problem and I would like to have some help.

Background: I just switched from dial-up to high-speed internet (Charter). I have XP Home and have been using Outlook for my email. I also have Norton Internet Security 2005 which I installed not all that long ago. The problem is that Charter only supports Outlook Express, not Outlook. I have tried to get my computer (Gateway 5300 Solo laptop) to connect to OE numerous times but have been unsuccessful. After about 40 minutes a technician from Charter said that NIS is not compatible with Outlook Express. True? If so, what would you do if you were me? At this point, I would uninstall my Norton firewall and everything I have from NIS and put in something else. But I have no idea what to replace it with. What would you do if you were me? Thanks in advance for the help which I hope will be coming my way.

This may help MS Support but there are known problems with Outlook 2002 and Vista and W7 and the solution is probably to stop using very out of date software and go for a newer version of Outlook or use Windows Live Mail or Thunderbird instead.

What is the best way to transfer the e-mails and address book etc to a new computer from an old one?

Answer:Hotmail & Oulook Express

If you are using hotmail on OE, you'll find that the folders and emails are duplicated on the server, check on the web mail on hotmail.com to make sure. When you set up the account on the new computer it will synchronize and download all your folders and emails. If you are using the OE address book you can export the address book to a file, click on the address book, go to file you'll find export, click on it and follow the wizard.

Hello all,

I've had this problem for a little while and usually i'd reformat my hard drive and start again to get rid of it but it's driving me nuts so i just want to get to the bottom of it. Bottom line is my html emails and 'Html Help' both take about a minute to load. I don't have a problem with text emails or Internet Explorer and i get this problem with Outlook XP, Outlook 2003, Outlook Express and Html Help (you know the one i mean, when you're in a program and decide to look at the program's help).

At first i thought this was to do with Windows Messenger and from within Outlook i've disabled Windows Messenger - didn't work, so i disabled it from my computer using gpedit.msc- didn't work. My PC is totally free from spyware, it's virus free and i even went through Task Manager and checked up every process the PC was running through Google.

The other thing is when i quit Outlook, the Outlook tray icon will sit there and i can't get rid of it until i reboot/log off my machine.

I'm clueless and frustrated, what's wrong with my PC?

Thanks,

Luminol

Answer:Html Help and Oulook problem

Hi, i wanted to update you, i made a new discovery. In Outlook once i've opened an html email i can switch between other html emails just fine, it's when i switch to a plain text email that it starts to freeze up. And i've also worked out that it takes 2 minutes EXACTLY to switch between the two email formats. It also takes 2 minutes to open up 'HTML Help'.

Strange huh? What would cause this exact 2 minute delay?

Answer:error for oulook 2007

I would check the profile path and see their is a legitimate PST file.

C:\Documents and Settings\(Your Login name accessing Outlook)\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook

PST is stored there. But also 2007 installs that darn Biz Contact Manager SQL service. Sometimes that service goes haywire or by accident people turn it off under "Start>Run>Msconfig" I had lots of errors with Biz Contanct Manager with Outlook 2003 and also 2007. MS should dump it, I can see the added database ability in indexing your contacts and grouping them. But who cares really if it slows down performance and causes errors more than it helps? It also stores separately than the PST file.

Generally you can troubleshoot most Outlook problems by remembering two simple things, when outlook is thinking and can't access something it wants; it will simply give an error and not do what you'd like. Not being able to backup or import is a case of the association of the PST data file not accessing right in most cases. And cryptic errors are generally a service problem that was not installing correctly or is dependent on a service that is not running correctly. PST can be checked with my above path listed and generally even if you system is looking if you have admin rights you can copy it directly from the folder source regardless if outlook is behaving or not. Check to see if Outlook 2007 installed the biz contact manager, it's generally at the bottom below most other... Read more

Hi,

Recently had to do system recovery to stabilize my computer (HP w/ XP). I have two problems now. (1) Outlook Express allows me to receive, but not send emails [times out when tried], (2) IE7 seems to be damaged. I can access some websites, slowly, but not others. A good example of this is ebay where I have no problem getting to the website or doing a search. I can get a list of related auctions, but cannot open the individual auctions. Same with AOL. I can access AOL Home, get to the sign in (though very very slowly), and can even view the email in-basket, but cannot open anything (bad website note). Deleting cookies, and completing a IE7 reset to the default settings didn't work.

I can access Yahoo, but cannot sign in for the same reason.

I downloaded another copy of IE7, not yet installed, and am prepared to install it if I have to delete my existing IE program. I have similar problems with Opera, Safari, & Foxfire.

I deleted the firewall program (Mcafee Security Suite) in case that was the problem (perhaps also corrupted), but got no change.

THX!

A problem has just started to happen on my Outlook account. Messages stay in my outbox but have actually been sent. I tried the repair software, scanpst.exe, I downloaded and installed SP3, I deleted the messages from the outbox and from the deleted folder and then sent a new message and the same thing happens. It gets sent but still shows up in my outbox. Help! This is driving me nuts.

Thanks

Colin

I'm running outlook express and I do love it but I've had this issue before and I believe it's because I have SO many messages. When it sends a message I get an error, and it DOESN'T say what the error is. The message actually gets sent but then STAYS in my outbox and repeatedly gets sent over and over until I delete it. This has happened before to me. The only way I was able to fix it was to DELETE my SENT box. Reopen and have outlook express generate a new one, but right now, I have several folders branching OFF my sent file i.e. sent old, or sent 2006. If I delete my sent box, will it delete all of the folders branching OFF my sent box????
Thats my first question

My second question is; I'm certainly open to other mail programs. What I'm looking for is a mail program that would let me specify ACCEPTABLE INCOMING addresses so if someone WASN'T on a certain list, they wouldn't be allowed to email me. Does anyone know an email program like that?

Thanks so much!!! Maryann

Answer:Oulook Express issue

For #1 - probably dbx corruption - read here;

http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/community/columns/filecorruption.mspx

For #2 - you can specify mailers you don't want to receive from by adding them to your Mail/Tools/Message Rules/blocked senders list. This just basically routes their mail right to the dump.

For a month or so now, when I try to reply to my sisters e-mail address wich is thru AOL, I get the following error message:

Microsoft Word is set to be your E-Mail editor. However, Word is unavailable, not installed, or is not the same version as Outlook. The Outlook e-mail editor will be used instead.

Then when i hit "send" - outlook locks up and i have to start all over.
this only happens with her e-mail address ([email protected])

this is the info displayed for each program:
MS Outlook 2003 (11.8118.8132) SP2
MS Word 2003 (11.8134.8132) SP2

this is aggrevating as it only happed with her e-mail. I want to blame it on AOL

any suggestions on how to fix?

Hi,
I have an old computer with only a 4 gb hard drive and I'm running out of room. I don't have hardly anything installed on it so I searched for what was taking up all the room and I found these dbx files in an outlook express folder one was sent messages and one was trashed messages, each took up 270 megabytes. Does anyone know why these files are so huge? Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Hi, Just wondering if anyone has any thoughts on this problem: I am using Win XP and when I try and open IE7 it says page cannot be displayed, I also get an error message when accessing Outlook Express but I'm sure that is because it cannot get an internet connection. My laptop and other pc are all working fine. I have a wireless router connected to my Cable Modem. The router is setup for DHCP and this is working fine, when I do a IPCONFIG on my pc which is not working, it is picking up the correct IP address, subnet and gateway from the router, I can also ping the router and get a reply back, so the PC is seeing the router OK. If I ping Google I get a reply and if I ping its IP Address I also get a reply, so am I correct in thinking that dns is working ok ? Someone suggested that I should try netsh int ip reset C:\resetlog.txt. I have tried this and it made no difference after a re-boot. I'm now wondering if it something to do with the host file on the PC ? If anyone has any thoughts on why this does not work, I would be most happy to hear from you. Many Thanks.

I have Exchange Server 2003. I am looking at replacing many copies of Microsoft Office with Open Office 2.3. However, OO does not have an email client. I need one that will work within my LAN, no outside contact. So, it has to use MAPI (I think). Is there anything on the Open Source horizon?

Mozilla Thunderbird - free, and works with Exchange server.

However, TB doesn't have a calendar built in. So, to avoid irritating your users, you might try Evolution which is a freeware clone of Outlook, but I'm not sure how well it works on Windows.

Hello,

While using Oulook Calander 2003 I could change the color of events as I completed them. Even if they were reoccuring events, I changed the color of each individual event as they were completed. This way with just one glance at my calander I could see what was left to be done.

But in 2007, I so far have not found a way to do this. If I try to change the color of one incidence of a reoccuring event it will only change the entire series, and this does not help me at all.

Does anyone know a way that I could change the color of one incidence of a reoccuring event in Outlook Calander 2007, or in some way flag or mark it as completed?

Thanks so much!

We had a short power outage. Now, outlook 2007 cannot even opened. I was asked if I wanted to open it in a safe mode, due to improperly shut down. I clicked yes, but nothing happened. It was running some kind of repair procedures, but once the procedures were done, the outlook is still unable to be opened.

Then, I ran Scanpst. I was informed that everything was repaired. However, the program can't be opened still. The lower right hand corner for Microsoft Outlook has been always crossed (with an x over it) ever since the power outage.

Please advice me. What can I do to get the program back ? Thanks

Hi everyone.
I have an @outlook.com email account which I use for my business. Recently I purchased a Windows 10 laptop and have been trying to integrate my @outlook.com account as much as possible.
This brings me to Cortana. I've tried to connect my Office 365 service (same email) so Cortana can manage my Outlook calendar. However, I keep getting informed that:
____
"Cortana Experience with O365
outlook.com isn't in our system
Make sure you typed your email address correctly. It usually looks like [email protected] or [email protected]"
____
How do I get around this? How can Office 365 not recognise an @outlook.com account?
Cheers and thanks in advance.

I have been adding the senders of any spam received to the blocked senders list in Outlook Express. The list had grown to over 200.All of a sudden they were no longer there, so I assumed that I had mistakenly clicked to delete them. Is there an answer to why things have changed and how can I revert to the former position?

while learning more and more about Outlook and Outlook Express, i learned that there was a feature under the "advanced" tab in account options to LEAVE A COPY OF MESSAGE ON THE SERVER... this was exactly what i was looking to do because several people must be able to access the mail from one account (shared account) i have to set up several people's computer to use Outlook / Outlook Express, and I am having difficulty getting it to "leave a copy of message on the server" because the first time i set up outlook, it automatically connects to the server during setup and i can't get to the advanced options until after i go through the setup process.

i know this question may be long and wordy and not that easy to try to figure out, but i guess my question is this...

how can i get to that advanced tab to set the preference to "leave a copy of the message on the server"... before the account is set up, so that it leaves the copy the first time it actually connects?

Ok-email address got harvested and is being used for spam. No problem. I'll change my account. I use outlook express 6 on my home computer to harvest the emails off of the server. It then saves them in my outlook express folder in .dbx(I think) format. My question- if I change the email account to the NEW address, when save that info, will it change the individual string where it saved my old messages and keep me from seeing them when I open the new account? Or will I have to write down the folder and go back and find them? Or(and I've already done this) go to the folder now and make a copy of all the files and import them into the NEW outlook express folder to be able to look at them. Don't want to loose 4 years of emails. Mike.

Having a nightmare trying to fix this!!!

Using Outlook express 6 and when trying to print an email along the top of the print out it should say the name of the person who received the mail. But it is saying the persons name who used to use this PC.

I have checked the properties of the account and normally in the "name" feild is where you would change this to the new user, but it is already changed but still prints with the old name.

I have looked everywhere for this old name in all the settings but can't find it anywhere. Can anyone help me solve this brainteaser?

However I had about 400 reminders in my reminders window and now there are only 60. Does this mean that there is a setting restricting the number of remindesr being shown or have I "lost" some of them in the transfer?

I have set up Outlook, but loved the feature in OE that I could create a new mail for multiple sending?s, i.e. Job application and CV.
And its a simple program to use :D
If so, where can I safely download this?

OR

Is there another programme where I can use a similar facility?

Hi! I have tried to figure out how to correct this, but figure it must be more involved than I think. When I open my Outlook Express 6.0, my Outlook page looks different. It says "Outlook Info" instead of "Outlook Express for Johnston8200." When I run my cursor over "Popular Searches" on that page (entertainment, DVD, Sports, Bad Credit, etc.) and also run it over "Contacts" (Open Address Book and Find People), a web site called www.findwhatevernow.com appears. The website has even taken over my homepage for IE several times. Along with this, I am getting MANY porn pop-ups. I have even had xxx sites download themselves. Do you have any idea how I can fix my OE page and block the nasty porn ads???
