rundll32.exe not responding error

Question: rundll32.exe not responding error

I recently had a problem after doing an uninstall and an install and didn't reboot inbetween. I don't know precisely when it happened. I uninstalled F-Secure Internet Security 2004 and installed Kerio Personal Firewall. Rebooted the machine and everything just seemed to feel a little lagged. The next time I went to shut down I got an error of rundll32.exe not responding. I ended the task and it continued shutting down as normal. Anytime I logoff/restart/shut down I get this error of rundll32.exe not responding. My system alo seems a little slower than normal but maybe I'm imagining things.

I ran sfc /scannow and it did absolutely nothing. It seemed to scan but gave me no errors or anything else.

Any ideas or help would be greatly appreciated.

Running Windows XP Pro on an ASUS P4C800-E mobo, 3ghz p4, 1gb ddr400 and ATI 9800 Pro video card if it matters.

Preferred Solution: rundll32.exe not responding error

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer:Rundll32.exe not responding while shutting down

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/310353

I would try that and see if you have any other issues. To get the machine to shut down, simply end task on any rundll32 files that are operational. Once you close the right one, the system will let you restart or shut down.

I see two different antivirus programs in operation, that's bad. pick one.

Could reference any of these lines:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [SiSPower] Rundll32.exe SiSPower.dll,ModeAgent

O4 - Global Startup: svchost64.lnk = C:\WINDOWS\system32\rundll32.exe
O4 - Global Startup: Utility Tray.lnk = C:\WINDOWS\system32\sistray.exe

When I install Ghost v14 on the T500, after reboot the DVD drive has a yellow exclamation mark on it with "the device is not responding properly" and an error pops up with "rundll32.exe has stopped responding", and also the power Manager icon on the task bar stops showing.I can correct the problem with the DVD drive by removing an entry in the registry but the rundll32.exe error will never go away. When I uninstall Ghost, all works fine, and then the error goes away, odd! Has a anyone experienced this with Ghost and know why it causes these problems, with the DVD drive, Power Manager and the rundll.exe error? Log Name:      ApplicationSource:        Application ErrorDate:          17/01/2009 22:33:25Event ID:      1000Task Category: (100)Level:         ErrorKeywords:      ClassicUser:          N/AComputer:      208252GDescription:Faulting application rundll32.exe, version 6.0.6000.16386, time stamp 0x4549bb52, faulting module ntdll.dll, version 6.0.6001.18000, time stamp 0x4791adec, exception code 0xc015000f, fault offset 0x00000000000603f1, process id 0x1c0, application start time 0x01c978f39520fc13.Event Xml:<Event xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/win/2004/08/events/event">  <System... I seem to have somehow contracted a virus that is giving me the following problems:

? Constant pop-ups from Internet Explorer;
? Rundll32.exe application error whenever I try to click on any of the icons in control panel;
? I am unable to download or install any windows updates, it won?t let me open my security centre or update from the Microsoft site;
? Whenever I try to log onto the computer I get a userinit.exe error and all that comes up is my background, it doesn?t seem to open Explorer at all. I have been able to access Explorer through the task manager though.

I followed all your steps, but was unable to complete step one due to not being able to access anything through control panel. I was also unable to update Windows fully due to the abovementioned problem.

I was also having problems running HiJack This through Deckards so I ran it separately.

There is a very long thread at Microsoft Community about problems with related to MS13-081 but I did not see any post that had the same issue you have. KB2862330 fails to install - Microsoft Community
You narrowed the problem to the problematic update and have restarted multiple times. With those files listed as "Run once", they should have been installed at the next reboot. Although you did not mention receiving the error "Task Sequence environment not found", check that you have the applicable updates listed in the "Resolution" section of Task sequence fails in Configuration Manager if software updates require multiple restarts.
If no joy, since the issue you have is also related to MS13-081, I suggest adding the details of your experience to the thread at Microsoft Community. In addition, as Susan Bradley made clear in that thread, Microsoft can not fix a problem that they don't know is broken. If Susan offers to create a support case, please consider sending her the information she needs to do so. Her email address is listed in that thread.

Question: rundll32.exe error

I believe I have a corrupt rundll32.exe file, due to a virus a few months ago. No system crashes, but many programs/applications will not run. Unfortunately, this includes any free fix download programs to fix the rundll32.exe problem. I also am not currently able to locate my windows installation CD. Would it be safe to copy from another computer a good version of rundll32.exe and replace the version on my computer? Any ideas? Thanks

Answer:rundll32.exe error

Hi JG, I would advise against doing that because in most cases people that try that end up having to format and reinstall because they screwed it up and made the problem worse. Also if that file is still corrupt then theres a good possiblity that you may still be infected. I would suggest that you follow the instructions below and let our security experts take a look at it before proceeding.

Please follow our pre-posting process outlined here:
http://www.techsupportforum.com/secu...oval-help.html

After running through all the steps, please post the requested logs in the Virus/Trojan/Spyware Help forum, not here.

If you have trouble with one of the steps, simply move on to the next one, and make note of it in your reply.

Please note that the Virus/Trojan/Spyware Help forum is extremely busy, and it may take a while to receive a reply.

If they don't post the required logs, it will slow them down with getting any help.

Its always better to be safe then to be sorry. If they clear you of any nasties, I will be glad to assist you further.

Question: rundll32 error.

I keep getting a "windows can not open this file" when i run any program designed to fix my problem. I must have deleted my rundll files somehow. Earlier I had a malware notice that my computer was unprotected and the message kept covering my whole screen with a fake scan that I could not get rid of. After getting rid of it, none of my icons will appear on my desktop or under all programs in my start file. I can not even get my browser to load any application that has a moving image. It simply does not work with Microsoft sending file association messages. I can not afford any software to get rid of this. Everything that says it fixes it for free looks like it charges to fix the error. Help. I can not download any exe files either. Help.

Question: Rundll32.exe Error

Hello All, I'm running a Vista 64 bit system, and I keep getting this error when i try to access some short cuts, download certain files or directly access files. For example, I can't get access to my play back devices from the tool bar without the error window popping up.

thats only part of the problem. I did have a virus a while back however I think it removed A LOT of files that connect with start-up files, and short cuts.

Some files will not download, some files will not remove. I feel it is all part of this error but I just want to figure out how can I stop this rundll32.exe from popping up?

Yes the file is missing, and i've tired spyware programs, anti-virus scans, CMD sfc scan now.. none of those worked. I just want to be able to click on certain things and gain instant access to with without this error blocking me. And being able to download files without this error blocking me..

I do not want to re install right now, even though I think that will be my ownly option.

any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! :-)

(Windows 7 ultimate 64bit)So I deleted the rundll32.exe because I thought it was a virus (I now know that was a huge mistake) Is there any way to fix it without the CD-ROM becasue I lost it? Also some games and programs don't work and says dll file is missing although it is located in system32 and sometimes I find the proccesses in Task Manger full with rundll32.exe when trying to open a program and that makes the computer very slow ,I tried to put a copy from syswow64 and winsxs but that doesn't seem to entirely work (I was able to open the control panel), sfc scan doesn't work and says Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them I tried running it in safe mode and the DISM command didn't work with error 87 and saying the health check option is not recognized in this context I also tried to check the sfc results and there was a problem with prefhost.exe,rundll32.exe and that the replacement was also corrupted ,Thanks in advance

Can you please advise other methods to fix this

Thanks in advance :

Answer:Rundll32.exe error

Unfortunately I think you need the XP CD to fix this error. Hope I'm mistaken though and someone could suggest something.

When you startup your computer, it tries to load all of the selective startup services and programs as well.

I've had this problem with my old HP pavilion desktop and it leads to a program that is trying to be started, but is corrupt and officially cannot.

Try msconfig, from the run command or search bar (in vista) and browse the startup tab for any programs that are trying to start at boot.

You can also look at the event viewer in the administrative tools in the control panel.

First, I'm Dutch.. I'm trying to put every Dutch term into English but i might fail sometime

I thought this Rundll32 error was part of a malware problem that I had located on my pc.
the problems were: strange internet explorer adverts poping up, sometimes this Rundll32 error and some weird processes running in "task management" (the thing you get when you push [ctrl]+[alt]+[Del]).

than i ran the whole "READ & RUN ME FIRST" program, the internet explorer pop ups and the weird processes problems seems fixed. But this Rundll32 error keeps showing. Some more help please!

thanks.

OS: Windows 2000 Pro

I just installed a new video card which is a Geforce FX 5200 and its drivers. I right click on my destop ---> properties to change my settings but I encounter an error. I get "rundll.32exe has generated errors and will be closed by Windows. You will need to restart the program. An error log is being created." Does anyone have any ideas on how to fix this?

You could find a friend who also runs win2k pro on their machine and copy the rundll.exe and rundll32.exe file to a floppy, then copy them into C:\windows on your computer.

Question: rundll32 error

An error window kept popping up every time I opened my laptop's lid titled "Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library" and saying there was an error with this file:

C:\Windows\System32\rundll32.exe

I've tried several things to fix this--I had recently installed "Adaware" by Lavasoft, so I tried uninstalling that--didn't fix the issue; I updated my NVIDIA graphics driver via HP--didn't work; I've tried updating other drivers, but those haven't worked either.

I have an HP Pavilion Notebook w/Windows Vista Home Premium 32

Question: Rundll32.exe Error

Just wondering if someone can help me and my guy...
Our hp ze 5200 laptop computer has issues all of a sudden. We have ran virus scans of every sort, and also ran the computers own c drive virus scan, and came up with errors which are now fixed, but the computer is still runing very strange. We also tried SmitFraudFix in safe mode, and ccleaner, and still all same issue.
We were going to just start over again with the windows xp program, but there are way to many things on this computer to just give. (My guy is in music production, and has loops and entire songs on here)

The main issues we are having are a lot of clickable links on webpages will not work. Some will.

The other is the Media Player 11 will not work and comes up with a dll error wheneer we try to use it.

And when the computer is shutting down, it takes a really long time, and then an error comes up that says something to do with rundll32.exe error.

A lot of the music websites he goes to will not allow him to play the music, which is just getting really annoying!

I have triued to decipher all of the other posts pertaining to some of these issues, but all of them have hijackthis logs, and I have no clue what all of those are. I don't even know how to get that information. Am computer literate to a certain extent, but these just confuse me.

HELP! PLEASE!

Thanks in advance.

Hi, I have just started university and had managed to get my laptop plugged into and working on the universities network.. However..

This morning whilst browsing the web with firefox my laptop froze, this had happened a few times before so i turned it off, turned it on again choosing the option start windows normally. After logging in however i get error messages that programs like iTunes, AVG, Java, MSN live messenger etc are not responding behind all these error messages is another error message saying roughly the following;

" There is a rundll32.exe error which has resulting in it behaving unusually please contact your system administrator for further support"

Make : MSI
Model ; Gx700 laptop
OS: Windows Vista home premium (pre installed so no recovery disk! :S) With SP1 installed.

Having run a program that is used to target the nature of errors that nvidia media centre is mentioned, does this mean that it is a hardware failure and that i will need to send the laptop back?

Another note, for some reason the laptop now seems to think that it is the year 16408 does this mean that it is likely to be a virus??

I am really at a loss to explain how this had happened and i need it fixing as soon as possible.. any ideas would be most welcome..

When I try opening ANYTHING from my control panel or open anything that is associated with control panel (ie. going into properties on my desktop wallpaper) I get a "rundll32.exe is not a valid Win32 application". I encountered a virus called AntiMalware Doctor and ran a few anti-virus scan programs in an attempt to remove it. I also ran CC cleaner which I believe deleted a system file which is causing instability on my computer. I got the "blue screen of death" also but was able to start in safe mode and haven't got the screen since. I still get these RunDll32.exe error messages that pop-up without warning every so often. The error message says "Error in rundll32.exe missing entry: shell32.dll, activate_RunDLL. I'm unable to run some programs properly as well as shutting down my computer properly because of it. I attached the logs that your tutorial requested, any help would be GREATLY appreciated.

I have refered to this post (Rundll32 error in IE), however I cannot download the ad aware program (this may be another unrelated problem as when I download it stops at 99% complete) and have successfully downloaded the Super anti-spyware.

Please help!!!

Try running your computer in safe mode with networking. If you have a virus perhaps you'll be able to download it then. I would also scan your computer in safe mode. Also please provide a screenshot of the error the next time you get it.

Question: rundll32 error

I have a Dell Inspiron notebook running Vista Home Premium with 3 MB of RAM. When I try to go to the clock in the system tray I get an Rndll32 error. A message cmes up that indicates the following error message:

This is the 2nd of the two error messages (both refer to the same Rndll32 error). The first one comes up so fast I cannot get it and put it on the screen for anyone.

"Windows host process(Rndll32) has stopped working

A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available."

Hope someone can give me some information. I have searched and searched for answer. This same error message comes up when I attempt to take my flash drive, and when attempting to play a quicktime or Windows Media Player movie.

Question: Rundll32 Error!!!

Long story short....

I think my rundll32 process is corrupted, maybe from virus, but it is SERIOUSLY slowing down my computer and just recently started freezing my computer upon startup.

I don't have my xp cd
(Got to scratched up)

So no i cant do a repair, but i was thinking maybe i could repair it some other way?

I mean i can just end the process, but from what ive heard i need it for certain programs, it is essential to xp.

Ive also researched that it is possible to get a virus, so ill be doing 3 DEEP scans tonight to try to find the nasty booger.

As i said before, im not completely sure its rundll32, but when i end it my computer stops having problems and my computer actually finishes loading up.

Thanks,
Alexsabree

rundll32 has generated errors and will be closed by Windows. You will need to restart the program.

An error log is being created.

Any ideas?
Thanks

Answer:Rundll32 error

When you are saying your "going to your desktop" what do you mean? Are you saying when your launching prgrams from your desktop?
Or when you close windows to return to your desktop?
When you start up?

Does the problem happen more frequently when you use the computer for a while?

Question: rundll32 error

hi, this is my first time posting here so i hope im in the right forum. im really not sure whats causing my problem so im going to give you as much info as posisble. I started getting the rundll32 error a few days ago, but now its stopped happening. I opened the rundll32 file in notepad and theres some 'xxxpaddingxxxpadding' stuff in there i dont know what that means. anyway the result of this is that my internet can now only open really simple text based pages like wikipedia, anything like youtube or grooveshark it cant do. i get the aw snap message on chrome. on firefox it cant open anything at all, it works like normal for about 60 seconds then crashes. also everytime i open microsoft word i get a norton antivirus message saying that my virus definitions are not valid. oh and also a few days ago my laptop crashed and i had to do a system revert to a previously safe stage thingy. sorry i know this message is a bit garbled and longwinded but i couldnt find solutions anywhere. all the things about rundll32 didnt seem to work for me. any ideas guys? thanks

Hello, cassidyj88
Welcome to TSF

My name is Billy O'Neal and I will be helping you. (Billy or Bill is fine, if you like.)
Please give me some time to look over your computer's log(s).
Please take note of the following:In the meantime, please refrain from making any changes to your computer.
Also, even if things appear to be running better, there is no guarantee that everything is finished. Please continue to check this forum post in order to ensure we get your system completely clean. We do not want to clean you part-way up, only to have the system re-infect itself. :)
If you do not understand any step(s) provided, please do not hesitate to ask before continuing. I would much rather clarify instructions or explain them differently than have something important broken.
Finally, please reply using the button in the lower left hand corner of your screen.
Old topics are closed after 3 days with no reply, and working topics are closed after 5 days. If for any reason you cannot complete instructions within that time, that's fine, just put a post here so that I know you're still here. Member Users,

I have experienced a slow down of my system for many weeks.

Now last week running ADOBE PHOTO SHOP and trying to print 8 JPG documents the sytem took more than 5 minutes to queue them up for printing and in one opportunity a MESSAGE of RUNDLL32.EXE ERROR appeared.

I have read in my Web search that this could mean that this executable system file is corrupted or contaminated with some malware.

I would like to know what is the easiest way to get it back working ok.

Thanks.

Question: Rundll32.exe error

I cant access my clock on the desktop or Add/Remove Programs in the control panel because of this stupid error. I have no clue what it means but it is driving me insane, can someone help.

The error is: The application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000005). Click ok to terminate the problem. At the top it says rundll32.exe - Application Error.

It has been acting up for quite some time now and I just cant take it anymore. I have run spyware program (Adaware) Antivirus Program (AVG) and some registry cleaners and nothing seems to be working. Can someone please Help?

Answer:Rundll32.exe error

Hello jt9435

Even though you have checked for malware, this could still be a malware issue.

Try the following and if it does not help I think you still have malware. In that case post back for more help

So, let`s try replacing rundll32.exe first

Put your XP installation CD in the drive and cancel it if it boots up.
Start/Run and type in
cmd
OK

At the command prompt type
expand d:\i386\ rundll32.ex_ c:\windows\system32\ rundll32.exe
ENTER

NOTES:
d: is drive letter for your optical drive. Your drive letter may be different.
Be sure to include _ (underscore symbol) in rundll32 .ex_
Put one space between _ and c:\windows\

Run System File Check.

Start - Run - type "SFC /scannow" and hit Enter.

Do not type the "" and make sure there is a space between "SFC" and "/scannow"

A dialogue box will appear giving progress. Takes a few minutes to check all system files and replace any damaged ones.

Ok, so last night my husband says he can't get into his itunes. When you click on the icon it was saying it couldn't find the file path and that you might not have permission to open it but if you go into the actual file folder you can open it. I checked to make sure that he was set up as an administrator and he is. So I logged off and went onto my account to see if I could get on itunes...i can no problem. So I stayed in my account and ran the malwarebytes scan. Picked up a couple of trojans and got rid of them. Restarted, logged back into his account and this is when the rundll32.exe errros started. Now he cannot get into anything. Everytime you click on a program you either get "application not found" or the "open with" window pops up. I can't run malwarebytes on his accont. Any ideas? Question: rundll32.exe error

Hi,
Whenever I try to open any files in control panel, I get a pop-up window that says 'WINDOWS\system32\rundll32.exe Application not found'. I tried downloading registry-fix programs, but whenever I try to run the programs, I get 'program not found'. Also, I have trouble opening just about any program file on my computer, for example, when I click on Firefox, I get 'Open with'. And then I have to choose Firefox from the recommended list. I tried right-clicking Firefox icon and clicking 'Run as...', but this only helps temporarily--when I restart the computer, I get the same problem: I am stuck with 'Open with' window. Is this problem related to rundll32 error?
How can I fix these problems? Please help!

Try this:

Alternatively, you can run up-to-date Adware, or a similar program that should pick it up and delete it.

i just bought a new computer, pretty excited with installing my softwares. im trying to install a device called M AUDIO JAMLAB USB INTERFACE, it's not allowing me to install it. Everytime i troubleshoot, as per the device's site, it's giving me this error message:

rundll32.exe - Application error.
The instruction at "0x7e1ec989" referenced memory at "0x00000000".
The memory could not be "read".

Is this the one stopping me from using my device and installing it's software?

Greetings.

My computer has been misbehaving again with ongoing sluggishness- programs are slow to load/terminate, boot-up time seems excessive, trojan detected by the weak McAfee Security Center, etc.

Now, a rundll32.exe application error is occurring. The messages says: The instruction at "0x771248f0" reference memory at "0x771248f0". The memory could not be "written". Click on OK to terminate the program.

What in the world is this error and how do I correct it?

Thanks.

I have Windows XP, Service Pack 2 (if I remember correctly; when I do a Properties on My Computer, I get this darn error so I can't check that way).

When I start it up and click on my icon or any other user's icon, I get this error message with the thread subject in the title bar and "The application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000005). Click on OK to terminate the application."

I get this message when perform any significant task like trying to click on "Add or Remove Programs" in the Control Panel.

I was able to bring up Windows finally by waiting patiently for just my desktop wallpaper to appear. Then I hit Ctrl+Alt+Del to get the Task Manager. Then I clicked on New Task... Then I ran explorer.exe and all of my icons and the Start Bar appeared.

I have McAfee and when I run it, it doesn't complete. It says that my Computer & Files need attention and my E-mail & IM need attention. When I click Fix next to "Am I Proctected? No", the scan stops at some point with an error message box, Scanning has encountered a problem from which it cannot recover - Error getting scan progress"

This issue is also preventing me from having internet access. so I can't download anything or access online scanners from it. The PC is a DELL Precision 690. I'm posting this from my company's laptop that I need to return to the company ASAP.

Any assistance is GREATLY appreciated!

Answer:rundll32.exe - Application Error

Hi atrapp, and welcome to TSF.

Sorry for the delayed response but as you can probably see, we are very busy here right now.

If you still require our assistance with this matter, please post back.

I will subscribe to your thread so that i will be alerted to any response from you and will get back to you as soon as i can.

Meanwhile, try this,

Run the System File Checker

Go to the Run box on the Start Menu and type in:

sfc /scannow ( sfc if not reconized) (Note that there is a space between sfc and /scannow)

This command will immediately initiate the Windows File Protection service to scan all protected files and verify their integrity, replacing any files with which it finds a problem.
In all likelihood you will be prompted to insert the Windows XP CD. Note that you'll need a CD with the same version of Windows as the one that's installed on your computer, i.e. you'll need an XP Home SP2 install CD if you have XP Home updated with service pack 2. If your XP install CD doesn't have service pack 2 you can create an XP SP2 CD using the following method :

Good luck.

"rundll32.exe - Application Error. The Application Failed to Initialize Properly (0xc0000005). Click On Ok to terminate the application"
So i click ok then it goes to my desktop. But there is nothing there, except for my background. No Icons, No Toolbar, No Start and no time.
however if I press Ctrl+Alt+Delete, and click on new task, and type in control panel it will give me everything else back. But when i try running some programs they dont work. Firewall and anything that changes settings basically. Nothing in control panel.
This is very irritating. i can still get on msn, and internet. But im trying to set up Xbox Live, and i need to change my router settings which it will not let me do.

Hi guys.

Please excuse my ignorance. I'm new to this forum, and im not a computer expert in anyway possible.

The problem with my computer (only a cople of weeks old) started happening a few days ago. It started playing up and i started recieving pop us every few minutes and also an alert saying my windows security has been turned off and when i tried to turn it on i wasnt allowed (i had AVG Free antivirus at the time) I did a scan with the avg and nothing came up except a few cookies. I decided to uninstall it and install the Norton. I did another scan and it still came up with nothing although it was still behaving a little crazy.

The next day i turned the computer on and it said that there was an inital.exe error (could have been something like initalstartup.exe) and then it logged into a blank screen saver, no icons, start menu or toolbars. i pressed ctr+alt+del and ran a new task or Explorer.exe. That got everything back however when i try to go into anything in the control (among other things) panel i recieve a rundll32.exe - aplication error.

Since this i have had to run explorer.exe everyday through the task manager to access my icons, everytime i turn the computer off it starts again with nothing but a blank page.

Im assuming i have a virus. When i did a Norton scan it was spending a VERY long time scanning my Documents and settings and i noticed hunderds of files that are not mine, including what looks like porn videos, music and dvd video. There were ... Read more

These are the specs:

Answer:Rundll32 error with videos

There's a minidump.mdmp file created whenever a process crashes. Analysis of that memory dump can sometimes pinpoint the reason for the crash. Zip it up and upload, and odds are someone will take a look. Check out recent posts by Flavius and myself on the "Exploer" thread on the subject of where to find those dumps and relevant event logs.

Answer:rundll32.exe - Application Error?

Hi and Welcome to TSF

RUNDLL32 is an application that acts as a general-purpose host for a Dynamic Link Library (DLL). Several IE-related applications use RUNDLL32. For example, Java uses RUNDLL32 to launch an URL within IE.

Because you get the error regardless of what program you try to use/install, you might have a corrupted RUNDLL32 file. Try deleting/renaming the existing copy in %systemroot%System32. This will force Windows File Protection to replace it with a fresh copy from the WFP cache.

If this doesn't work, it means you might have installed an application that made incompatible Registry entries that affect RUNDLL32. You may want to review any changes you made prior to experiencing the problem.

You can also try searching the Registry looking for values that contain RUNDLL32. Your looking for instances where IE or another browser might start an application.

Hi all, i would like to say in advance thank you very much for any help that i get reguarding this issue, and i am truely grateful for you folks who spend your own time helping others with their problems on the internet.

My problem started about a week ago, and i decided to fix it last night as i had some time to do it, Basically every time i started my computer, after logging in, i would get an error (Rundll32.Exe Application Error, this program failed to initialise, Press ok to continue) something like that, which would pop up twice then go away, then all i get was my desktop but no icons or start bar. I had to manually start up explorer.exe from Ctrl+a+del, then it would start up everything. However, some applications wouldnt work (Rundll32.exe error) and attempting to access control panel ie. Add remove programs, or to adjust anything in system tray, i would get error.

Anyway last night i followed the Windows XP Cleanup guide, and after getting running MalWareBytes program, all the errors stopped, so i suppose that fixed it. Anyway, i continued with the full process of running all 5 programs, and finished with my four logs.

I just wanted to attatch these logs for someone to take a look and see if my computer is still infected with malware. It seems to be running fine but i would like to remove any left over to help prevent re-infection.

Attached below are the logs. Again, thanks in advance for any help!

Hi, I'm new here.

I was wandering if anyone could help me?
everytime I log on, I type in my password for my user, then I get an rundll32.exe - application error saying,

"The application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000005). Click on OK to terminate the application."

After this, it shows my wallpaper and nothing else, sometimes everything loads after a while, but usually nothing does so I have to start something from task manager before everything else loads.

I have AVG anti-virus 7.5 and have run and removed all the infections found but it keeps coming up.

Could Someone please help me out seeing as this is real irrataing and I would really appreciate any help given.
Thanks.

C:\Windows\system32\rundll32.exe this is the error I get when I try and perform certain operations.

Friday I ran a F Secure online scan on my Dell Dimension XP Home SP2. I found many problems and when I asked to clean it froze at the second to last deletion. I tried to do a system restore and that is when I got the first message posted above. I cannot get into Add/Remove or access most programs. If I click on example Firefox a screen box opens and it says "Open with and of course the program isn't listed in the list I can go C; Program files etc Same with Outlook Express, Paint

I realize the the above file controls a lot but I have no problems with my Office 2003 files.

I tried to unistall Avast but I cannot as I need Add/Remove.

I also get an error everytime I restart the computer KB8964225.log

I have tried to reboot from my Windows CD but I cannot seem to be successful even though I get to BIOS and follow the correct steps and when I Click save it still reverts back to loading from my Harddrive.

I know I have p/u a virus but I need to find some way around this before I can perform other functions. Any ideas would be helpful.

I've been to the Asus website and downloaded and installed the latest audio driver (CM6501) for my mobo but all that's done is change the type of device installed to C-Media from PnP in the device manager. The C-Media sound config says there's no device installed.

If it's relevant I also cannot open the User Accounts settings under Control Panel or open Display Settings. I also have an account missing from my logon screen.

Can anyone help please? Many thanks!

Answer:Rundll32.exe error = No Sound!

Hi Wapwap,

Have you tried uninstalling the audio devices, rebooting and running a System File Check?

Heres a guide on using SFC System Files - SFC Command
