Help With Radeon 9600se 128mb Ddr

Question: Help With Radeon 9600se 128mb Ddr

I just bought the graphic card today

Radeon 9600SE 128MB DDR APG 8x/4x

my old card is a Geforce FX 5200 AGP 128 MB, it sucks.

so anyways, I uninstalled my old display driver, and open up my comp and put in my new card, but when i secured everything plugged it in and booted my comp, my screen was black, like the monitor/computer didn't detect card. My monitor didn't respond to it. So i read the Manual for the Radeon Graphic card...at the very first page it said

"Do this first! (This section applies to AGP Graphic Accelerator cards only)."

first of all i don't even kno if my card is accelerator or not

then it said i need to find out my AGP manufacture and download the latest driver, i found out it is by ALI, so i went here

http://www.ali.com.tw/eng/support/drivers.php

but then the model numbers confused me, I don't know what model my AGP controller is. It said if I dont' get the right GART driver it can result in AGP memory not being detected or a black screen after Windows loads.

How do i find out my ALI model number and how do i fix this
problem???

heres wut it said on the first page

"Do This First!

This section applies to AGP graphic Accelerator cards only.

To ensure a Successful installation of your ATI Graphics Accelerator card, you MUST do the following BEFORE replacing your current graphics card with your new ATI card:

Install AGP drivers for non-Intel Chipset Based Motherboards. Several AGP motherboard manufacturers use non-Intel AGP chipsets. Chipsets include those made by Acer Laboratories (ALI), Silicon Integrated Systems (SIS), and VIA Technologies, Inc. Each non-Intel chipsett requires Driver. This driver is required by your new ATI card to function correctly with your motherboard. It is very important that the correct AGP driver be installed before installing an AGP video card in your system.

An incorrect or missing GART driver can result in AGP memory not being detected or a blcak screen after Windows loads."

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Which is better for games

Answer:128MB ATI Radeon X1300 vs 128MB NVIDIA GeForce 8300GS?

isnt the 8300 newer? Im not very familiar with ATI's system of numbering cards, they like to skip around, like a friend of mine has a 9800 pro or something, yet there are newer cards in the 1k range? I dont get that.

I used to say avoid ATI like the plague, but i feel that they have gotten better. At the same time though i would recommend the 8300, because i know for sure that it supports DX10 (as its an 8 series) but the other one i cant really say no to because i dont know what it is offhand.

Answer:radeon 9600se

First of all ATi 9600SE is not a good choice at all...its the worst card i've ever seen ... but it should work much better than the onboard one....i suggest u to some following steps: -

1. Update drivers (Mobo, Video, Sound)
2. Defrag ur HDD
3. Check Bios carefully, set the AGP Aperture size to 64mb
4. In the end, try Omega drivers..do little tweaking as well

Question: Radeon 9600SE....

I bought a Radeon 9600SE and it worked fine until my old motherboard gave up the ghost. I went out and bought a new m-board (syntax V266A) and now when I turn on the power I get a blank screen. When I plug my old Radeon 7500 in everything works fine. I thought maybe the card had burnt out so I bought a new Radeon 9600SE but that one doesn't work either....

The manual says:

--update AGP drivers
--unistall old graphic drivers

....done and done. Still no dice...

I was wondering if I should get a 64 bit 128mb 9600SE or 128 bit 128mb 9600 SE. The 128 bit is 8 bucks more, and I was wondering if it is worth it.

I was looking at these 3

SAPPHIRE ATI RADEON 9600SE Video Card, 128MB DDR, 64-bit, DVI/TV-Out, 8X AGP, Model "ATLANTIS RADEON 9600SE" -RETAIL $71

APOLLO ATI RADEON 9600SE Video Card, 128MB DDR, 128-bit, DVI/TV-Out, 8X AGP, Model "DEVIL MONSTER 3 RADEON 9600SE" -RETAIL $80

ASUS ATI RADEON 9600SE Video Card, 128MB DDR, 64-bit, DVI/TV-Out, 8X AGP, Model "9600SE/TD" -RETAIL $82

Which one is a better deal?

Thanx

Answer:ATI Radeon 9600SE 64-bit vs. 128-bit

Go for the Sapphire, that $8 isn't much of anything, but only 8 dollars I guess you could. I hate SE editions, they are always worse than the original versions.

Question: Ati Radeon 9600se

I have a Radeon 9600SE agp card w/ 128mb of ddr memory.
I got the first one and all my computer did was reboot and lock.
so I replaced it with another ati card of the same kind. It works a lot better my computer doesn't lock in a lot of things now, or shut down. But when I play a game, or am on the web browsing, especially when I am playing a game like URU ages beyond mist. when the character is running or when there is a lot of action, I get these little line streaks comming from the action spot on the screen. I downloaded updated ati drivers from ati, I have made sure it is cooled correctly, I am running about 900mb of ddr ram on the mbd, and I have an athlon xp 2000+ cpu. I have run the updated via chipset drivers. any suggestions.

Answer:ATI Radeon 9600SE

Not good...I had a 9600SE awhile back,...it could play FarCry on Medium quality with out to much lag. It will be completely useless for new games like HL2. My suggestion, go buy a 9800Pro...they are cheap and overclock to XT speeds very easily. I would say that you would be wasting your money on a 9600SE.

Ok, I've got an issue. I recently got a Radeon 9600se and am attempting to install it into my CPU. Upon installation it noticed changes and asked for restart -- which I did. And upon restart, it made my monitor go 'black screen' and I had to put in my old graphics card -- and then it went back to working (after installing the Nvidia drivers).

I have read my guide that came with it and it said this was possible because I dont have the updated AGP drivers on my computer however, I can't seem to download them. I looked in my "system devices" and couldn't find anything that said anything about an AGP. However there was a familiar name in the devices -- VIA Tech -- so, I went to www.viaarena.com and downloaded the drivers which I thought would corrolate with that driver in my devices, and when running setup it said installation couldn't be performed.

I know my little explanation of the problem above is a bit confusing... but the problem confuses me... so that's the best I can explain it. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Answer:Geforce 2 to Radeon 9600SE

What kind of motherboard/chipset do you have? Does the screen go black when windows boots up or when you turn on your computer. I am thinking at the moment that it might be some BIOS settings. AGP drivers have nothing to do hen post booting. make sure it is either AGP 2X or 4X. Make sure your motherboard has updated BIOS. Try to get older 4X.XX drivers and not those new Forceware drivers. and if you don't have a KT400 chipset don't use any Hyperion drivers too as they were for the newer chipsets. Get v4.43 or older.

hi all!!

I'm new to this forum and I think I read correctly that overclocking questions should be in the cooling and modding section.. right????

anyways, i have an old ATI Radeon9600SE. i know its a junk 64 bit card but i dont want to upgrade until i build a whole new system. for now i would like to know if i can expect any performance boost from overclocking it.

it still has the stock heatsink (with no fan) on it, i did however remove it, clean it, and reseat it with arctic sliver 5. i then placed an 80mm fan underneath it blowing up towards the heatsink from the bottom if the case (the fan is rasied up via 8-32 2 inch bolts that rasie it up about 1 inch from the case floor)

i think that will provide adequite cooling for it because i dont want to spend any money on a VGA cooler and i dont want to tap into my CPU-only water cooling rig.

I have read that it can be flashed to a 128bit interface.. is this really possible? if so, is it safe to do so?

if not, can i expect any actual improvement in performance with it being overclocked?

i play halo (yes i still play halo), COD2, F.E.A.R., DOOM3 and it plays them all fine, but i would like to turn up some bells and whistles a little more, would overclocking allow me to do that???

thanks in advance for your help, ive been a viewer of this forum for quite some time now and i have to say that you guys are awesome!!

Answer:help overclocking ATI Radeon 9600SE

hi mod-newbie and welcome to techspot

i have the same crappy card.. hahaha

i screwed a 40mm fan right into the heatsink, but your cooling solution is probably more effective than mine.

i tried to overclock mine with ATI tools a while ago, but it got too hot even with the fan i added and everything started to lag really bad, so i put it back to stock and never tried again.

as far as i know from everything i read before on this card, you cannot flash the BIOS to make it 128 bit, it is stuck at 64 bit and any attempt to flash the BIOS will result in a dead card.. (i never tried because of that reason)

i suppose that if you could keep it cool enough (probably need water cooling), then you could significantly overclock it, but it probably isn't worth it.

i am waiting for DX10 cards to come out before I upgrade mine so i can stay current for while (and most importantly be able to play Halo2 for PC when it comes out next year

Im trying to run City of Villains and it tells me I need to update my graphics card driver. Simple enough, right? Well, I go to ati.com and download the latest driver, and when my PC reboots, it boots using the on board VGA driver and says that the driver I downloaded was written for a previous version of Windows or some crap like that. I'm using WinXP Pro SP2 and I downloaded the driver for XP. What do I do? I know the game works on this card because last time I played CoV was like 4 months ago and it was on this same PC and I haven't added, removed, or tweaked any hardware since then. Please help!

Answer:radeon 9600SE - cant right click desktop

Sound like you may need to flash your bios to the latest version. Check on your motherboard to see what model it is and go to that companies website to get the latest bios update. If you did that already, check your bios settings and make sure AGP is enabled (sometimes motherboards default to PCI for primary graphics). If all else fails, try loading motherboard default factory settings in your bios and see if it is still acting up.

Hello,

I am having a nagging problem. I purchased a Radeon 9600SE a few months ago, and have yet to get it to work in my machine. I cannot even get the screen to show up. I originally sent it back to the company where I purchased it from, and they tested it and sent it back to me, citing that it is not faulty.

I only get black on my screen as soon as I switch on the computer. '

The Specifications of my machine are as follows:

OS: Windows XP
Mobo: Abit socket A M/B NF7-S
CPU: Athlon XP 2000+
RAM: 512Mb DDR 2700
Old Graphics card: Matrox G450
Sound: Soundblaster Live 5.1
Onboard LAN, IEEE and the usual stuff.

Now, my old graphics card (the matrox) works without a hitch, has done for years. I have tried uninstalling the matrox graphics driver then installing the new card, also without luck.

The board has the AGP slot currently set on 1.5V. There is no 'soil' or other obstruction on the teeth of the card, and there are no addiitonal plugs from the card to the mobo...I am completely stuck, and frustrated that it will not work :S
Any ideas?

Thanks

or if you had a previous Nvidia card, you will have to uninstall the drivers first before putting an ATI card, and vice cersa

Hello all,

I installed this card in a computer with the following configuration:
MS8308EP Motherboard (SiS 730s, Firmware upgraded)
Duron 1.2 GHz
256 MB RAM
300W PSU
Windows Professional XP SP2 (fully patched)
AGP port configured at 2x speed, disable write combine for stability (4x gave visual artefacts in 3D as did write combine)
After installation the computer ran for a couple of hours without problems, both 2D and 3D worked fine. The following day it hung multiple times with a BSOD after anything between 5 minutes and 2 hours, regardless of whether in 2D or 3D mode.

I have previously used this card without problems on a computer with the following configuration:
Syntax S651m motherboard (SiS 651)
Pentium IV 2.4 GHz
1 GB RAM
300W PSU
Windows XP SP2
4x AGP, write combine enabled

I have already tried re-installing the drivers.
I have tried lowering the graphics acceleration, and then the BSOD no longer appears but gaming is sluggish.
I have tried re-enabling write combine.
I have tried lowering AGP speed to 1x.
None of these have solved the problem.

Obviously a 300W PSU is more than adequate for this rig.

I am at a loss here, what should I try next?

Season greetings... Let me preface by saying that I'm fairly computer ignorant so I don't understand most of those things I'm just read at a forum under another thread talking about the 9600SE vs. the 9200. I'm out Christmas present hunting yesterday (not my favorite activity in the first place) and I finally decide to buy one of those flight simulation software CD's for my brother. Okay now what video card should I get him since I'm almost sure the one he has wouldn't be that good... GeForce something with 32mb memory his wife read. Anyway, the guys at BB convince me that in my price range I was looking at the 9600SE was a better deal than the 9200. I see the thing about the free copy of Half-Life and DVI and so I say what the heck it must be a better deal... until I read some of the comments other people have made. Now I'm wondering if I made a big mistake. I looked up some of the specs a few minutes ago and I'm still in the dark. Can a 64 bit card really be faster than a 128 bit card? Or is the 64 bit thing really that bad? Engine clock? core? I'm at a loss.

Maybe I would be better trying to buy a used card via E-bay and be way better off... assuming I didn't get the shaft of course.

Any thoughts here would certainly be appreciated... I might even be able to get in a better Christmas mood.

Sincerely,

R. Smith

Answer:Do I take a ATI Radeon 9600SE card back?

The 9600SE will definitely be better than a 9200. However, a regular 9600, or 9600 Pro, or 9600XT would be much better than the SE version. If you were willing to pay that much for one of the other versions, then do it, but if not, then the 9600SE will still be a lot better than the 9200. (The 9200 is just a 9100 with AGP8x support. And the 9100 is just a 8500, just named differently for some reason.)

I recently installed a Radeon 9600SE by Sapphire Technologies on my WinXP system (P4 -1.5GHz). The installation went fine and everything else looks okay, but I can't view DVDs anymore. What basically happens is when I insert a movie I can hear the audio but the screen is blank. This happens regardless of whether I use WinDVD or InterActual. I can still view regular video files with no problem (.mpg, .avi, etc.) and games perform well too. It just seems to have a problem with DVDs.

My resolution is set to 1152 x 864, but it makes no difference if I change it to anything else. I uninstalled/reinstalled the software and I updated the Catalyst driver from 4.1 to 4.5 (downloaded directly from ATI); no luck. I also checked the primary and secondary channel controllers to make sure the transfer modes were set to DMA, which they were.

My previous card was a Radeon 7000 and DVDs always worked fine with that. In fact, if I remove the 9600 and reinstall the 7000 with its original drivers, I can view DVDs again.

Do you have any idea what's causing this and how it can be resolved?

Answer:Can't view DVDs using Radeon 9600SE

Hey all,

I've got a decision to make for my new computer. I have everything lined up except the issue of what graphics board to use? I have 2 favorites really, that are extremely nice bang for the buck (Which I'm looking for ) Those 2 cards are none other than the Radeon 9600SE and the Geforce 4 Ti 4200.

Quick stats:
ATI Radeon 9600SE 128MB DDR AGP8X OEM (Radeon just OEM)
Gainward Geforce4 Ti 4200 128MB DDR (I think its AGP8x as well)

Both of these cards will cost me about the same, I'm looking for the best card to use for a gaming computer. What would YOU use if you were in my shoes!

http://www.nvnews.net/reviews/gainward_gf4_ti4200-8X/Specs_and_Layout.shtml That is the site of the Gainward Ti 4200

Thanks for the help, tell me if I should post more info.

Ti4200 defently =) ; the SE is a watered down version of the 9600, with really poopy performance. Not just that but you can clock the 4200 to 4400 speeds without a hitch!

Have anyone can help me to solve this problem?

The Sales said that "Radeon 9600SE" can run on mainboard with AGP 4X compatible. so I bought this card and installed on M930LR mainboard, but when I power on my computer the monitor screen become non-stable (some characters is flashing and some straight line form ?Z? moving across the screen) a few second later then display "please check your VGA cable" How can I solve this problem?

When I do this, I know that indicating something is wrong with the video card and the monitor won't even come on. So I put the Geforce2 MX400 64M VGA card back in and the computer works fine.

I don't know this problem is whether concern about the power supply unit, because I had installed 4 IDE devices (DVD, CDRW, 2HD) on the mainboard.

My computer specification:
P4 CHIPS ATX MAINBOARD
INTEL P4 1.6 (Socket)
512 DDR RAM

I know my little explanation of the problem above is a bit confusing... but the problem confuses me... so that's the best I can explain it. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Answer:Radeon 9600SE Installation Problem

Try uninstalling the drivers for your current card (go to straight VGA mode) and shut down your computer. Uninstall your old card, install the new and bring your system up. If it still gives you the issue (but it shouldn't) shut down and boot into safe mode once. Go into your screen properties and back out and reboot. It's possible that your current refresh rate is set too high or defaulting too high with the new card under your current configuration.

Let us know if this works out for you.

Oh yeah....one more thing..... Welcome To Techspot! with your first post.

I just bought a Radeon 9600SE. The install was a huge challange as XP would not stop installing it's own driver for it while I was trying to run the provieded install CD.

Now at least seven times a day I get a momentary blank monitor and then a message that my VPU had to be reset.

I have contacted ATI about this issue only to get a bullsh-- email about disableing ACPI and installing new drivers. This did not work and I have installed the updated driver ten times over now.

Any Ideas before I rip out my hair?

If you have a choice between a 128 Mb ATI Radeon 9800 and a 256Mb ATI Radeon 9600 would you go for the higher memory or the later chip?

Answer:128Mb Radeon 9800 versus 256Mb Radeon 9600

The better chip - 256Mb RAM on a graphics card is of marginal use.

I am trying to install a Radeon 9600SE 4x/8x AGP graphics card. I have a Compaq Presaio 5321KS, P4 1.5ghz, 512mb ram with a nvidia card already in the AGP slot. I updated my bios to 686y2 v3.04 7/29/02. Disabled the display driver, shut down, swapped card and re-boot. All I get is a black screen & the 3 1/2" floppy light stays on. It looks like the monitor is not getting a signal. I tried loading Hperion 4in1 v4.55 & I tried to load catalyst without success. Im am stuck bad, I need help. What am I doing wrong? Or is my machine not compatable?

Answer:Radeon 9600SE - blank screen @ boot

Put the nVidia card back in, do a search for anything related to nVida drivers and delete what you find. Then go into device manager and uninstall the display adapter. Shut down and put in the Radeon.

Hello,

I recently purchased a Dell 400 SC, with a 2.8 Pentium processor, which was marketed as a server but works nicely as a desktop. Supposedly, it has an Intel D875PBZ motherboard. I installed a gig of ram and a Radeon 9600SE video card in the AGP slot. Everything went together well, but I have a display problem:

There are horizontal lines extending from any text line all the way across the screen. I went to the ATI site and downloaded and then installed the latest driver I could find, but that didn't help.

Any thoughts or suggestions?

BTW, I UTFSE but didn't find anything I could use.

Cheers,

Well you can but it'll probably make no difference if its a DX 8 card. You'd need a DX 9 card to take advantage of the additional content.

Here are some pics:

Answer:ATI - RADEON 9800 PRO 128MB AGP or

Why on earth have you included the 9200, it doesn't really compare to the other two you've listed.

I'm personally an ATI boy, so I'd suggest the 9800 Pro, it runs Half Life 2 with flying colours so I don't you'll have much trouble with it running anything.

I don't know much about the 5500, although it should also be able to handle most things pretty well I'd say.

Hi, just bought a second hand Asus Radeon 9200se 128mb graphic card for 20. Questions, was this a bargain, how much would it have cost when new, how good is it for playing games, It came with no drivers, what version is the latest driver for this card and were is the best place to download them from. Thanks in advance for any help.

Answer:Radeon 9200se 128mb

You'll need to go to click here and obtain the latest drivers, you will need the catalyst drivers and the control panel...To be honest it's a poor card, especially with being an SE edition, it has only half the pipes of a standard 9200, around 700 3D in 3D Mark 03 version so dont be expecting briliant results for HL2 and Doom...

Hi guys!
I'm new here and i need some issues 'bout a problem with my video card.
While i'm playing high-demanding 3D games, after 10-20 mins the screen goes blue and i must restart my system.Only blue, no BSOD messagges.
I think it's a problem with card overheating.
I tried to open the case panel for more airflow (i have a WaveMaster from CoolerMaster, with 2 front-intake fans, 1 top-exaust fan, 1 rear-exaust fan and the case temp never rise above 38C at full load), but the result was nearly the same;it take a bit longer to crash.
On my 9800 pro i've mounted a Zalman VF700 Al-Cu, but i think it's not enough
so, which is a better cooler for my radeon?
thanks in advance

Wulf

Answer:Best ATi Radeon 9800 Pro 128mb cooler

Mmm...

I dunno,i started having problems with this card after install Windows SP1 & SP2...
I've tried everything to solve the problem (reinstalling OS, changing HDDs,reinstalling drivers) but nothing.
I've tested my memory ram with memtest86 and it shows no problems;my CPU is constantly below 50C.
I've readed many posts about problems on radeon 9xxx series on this forum (and i have experienced 90% of them, including "IRQ_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL" one :dead: ), at least probably I have to change my GPU with Nvidia (6600 GT AGP, for example) to solve my problem...
I think it's an oveerheating problem because with the case opened, the system crashes after some more mins (20-25 instead of 15 mins).
Strange thing: while playing with newest titles (battlefield 2, rome total war) system crashes; when i'm playing America's Army @ max details it has never failed... Hardware-Hell-Secrets...
Any other ideas?
and thank you for your reply

EDIT:Another weird thing: i've tried to OC it, and with ATiTool it works fine @ 432.00/385.00 for over an hour without crashes...

The warrenty is up

I dont know how long the fan hasnt been spinning. I cant play games because thats when the monitor turns itself off but the comp runs ok otherwise. Windows is telling me the card is ah.. functioning ok..

I'm after some suggestions on what to do...

Is the card dead and in need of replacing?

OR is there any chance that I could just replace the fan and all will be well?

I'm trying to be optimistic here

Answer:Radeon 9800 Pro 128MB - Fan probs

You can replace the fan. Most computer stores will sell video card fans. I don't mean big stores that have a computer section. I mean computer stores, bigger stores with computer sections like a walmart won't sell the fans.

Alternativly you could try fixing the fan. When a fan stops spinning it's almost always because it ran out of oil. So simply oil it. You can buy oil for this at a computer store as well. But any fine oil will do. Something a lot of people have access to that works well is sowing machine oil.

To oil a fan you remove the sticker from the center and there SHOULD be a hole under the sticker. This is where you'd apply the oil. Usually (and I think they do this to annoy people) the side with the hole will be the side that is the hardest to access. Although it is worth noting that not all fans can be oiled. If you can't find a hole under the stickers then you'll need a new one. The hole is usually plugged with some form of a rubber stopper and the stickers can be annoying to remove as well.

I am having a problem with my graphics card. It was working fine until I installed some new software (msoffice and a firewall) but now everytime I load up a game the screen flickers and small blocks appear. I tried to re install the ATI drivers but it didn't seem to work. I tested the direct3d drivers and there was a problem with the 7 point test (the 8 and 9 were fine). Hi everyone,

This is a question related to counter strike.

I used to be able to play cs 1.6 just fine with my existing pc with ati radeon 9550 128mb graphic.

After 5 months of inactivity and reinstalling cs back, I'm having some "lag/delay" issues in game. Like if I strafe to left and release my button, sometimes it'll keep going for a while before stopping. This happens like once in a while or in an open area where there's more graphic

I have great fps but sometimes the graph jerks crazily with couple of red dots.

I've read it's possible to be a vsync problem or something but I've read so many threads on disabling vsync but I can't seem to find it.

Normally to disable vsync just go to DIsplay properties -> Advanced and select the graphic card and then disable vsync. The problem is i can't see my graphic card when I select advanced. All I got is (General, Adapter, Monitor, Troubleshoot, Color Management)

I think it's probably because my card is really old hence it isn't displaying in the properties section.

I've tried downloading a driver catalyst for radeon 9550 but I think it's the wrong version as there's another radeon 9550 256mb version and mine is 128mb version.

My question is what could be causing the problem? Is it vsync? If yes is there a way to disable it since my driver doesn't have a catalyst or something. I also read I should enable triple buffering or so... Read more

Answer:Need help with Radeon 9550 128MB VSync

memory sizes will not impact which drivers you use on your card. I would recommend using a driver cleaner program like driver sweeper or something like that to remove any and all traces of old drivers. Then go to amd.com and on the side select desktop graphics, which OS you have, Radeon 9xxx series, and 9550 for the model. Download full catalyst package with control center and driver built into one. Install, reboot and try counter strike again.

When you graphics card shows up as default device you computer is giving it a general driver that will allow you to use basic functionality until you get the full driver installed.

Hope this helps!

I just got my dads computer, and its a nice one. But it has a SiS 8 mb Video Card. So I bought a new one, ATI Radeon 9200 128 MB AGP card 8x/4x. The card works, I have tested it in two computers. I replaced the old card and put the new one in the AGP slot, firmly. I hook my cp back up and turn it on and the monitor won't come one, doesn't even boot up. I have tried installing the drivers that came with it before hand, and even downloaded the latest Catalyst off ATI. Nothing works. I have no exhisting Video card drivers on my computer, atleast its not registering under addd/remove. I have nearly given up. Please help me.

Answer:Radeon 9200 128mb AGP-Problem

Take it back and get an Nvidia...

No, seriously. What mobo does the computer have? I have an emachine that uses a FIC AM-37 mobo, and the 9200 would not work, period. I fought with it for days. than I took it back and got a BFG GeForce MX 4000. Old, yes. But I have played Half-Life 2 on it fine.

You could have a hardware incompatability problem, in that the mobo does not like the ATI.

Being as most people who write threads about their problems tend to leave out information which could be useful for those who are trying to help out, I'll try to write a post that includes what you need and then some instead of too little..

Hardware Specs

ASUS CUV 4X-E, Celeron/PIII, ATX (Motherboard)
Intel Pentium III 1 GHz Coppermine (CPU)
Radeon 9600SE (Graphics Card) - Not sure of the "mark" of this one..PowerColor or ASUS

Background Story
Well, about 3 months ago, I exchanged my old and outdated GeForce 2 GTS Graphics Card with the new and better (I thought) Radeon. Being the CS-gamer I was back then, I did this in hope of increasing my FPS-count (not a lot, just a little), but was fairly disappointed when I experienced an all-time record low FPS of 5-10 (no matter what was going on).. Also, being lazy, I decided to take this as a chance to lay off the CS-scene for some time, perhaps focusing on some other aspects of gaming and general usage of the computer.. It was just now, today, that I got the craving for fragging again?

After doing some reading, I realized that I was not the only one with problems regarding Counter-Strike 1.6, ATI and FPS. After some more reading, I decided to downgrade to Catalyst 3.6. Since I'm not the most experienced person when it comes to messing around with drivers, hardware-settings, software-this and that, I read around some more and went with the information given in this thread. I followed the advice writ... Read more

Answer:Radeon 9600SE - "INF Error - Video driver not found"

One hint: Check whether IT IS Radeon MOBILITY!

I just met the same problem and tried many ways and can not solve it.
Later when I happened to check the product specification from its vendor page, I found out that it is a Mobility Radeon display card.
There are two ways to get mobility radeon to work on PC:
1. download official mobility radeon driver, eg, 4.12
2. get the latest ati catalyst, and use a very cute little tool to make it work for mobility radeon. The tool's name is ati dhmod. you can search google for download or contact [email protected]

Hi all,

I upgraded my vid card from an ATI AIW Rage 128 to a ATI Radeon 8500LE 128Mb.

My monitor is an LG 795FT Plus.

The problem is that after i installed the new vid card, and tried to start the machine, i was getting the monitor flashing between on and a black screen. It sounds like the vid card is TRYING to send the signal to the monitor and it's having problems.
This flashing begins even when the machine is first turned on. So sometimes i don't even see the BIOS screen.

I tried using an older Sony monitor and it worked fine.
I also reinstalled the old vid card and the monitor worked fine too.

Has anyone ever seen this problem before? Is there any way to fix this problem?

So heres the thing. I am a keen gamer, I especially like first person shooters but I have noticed that newer games are not running as smoothly as I would like. eg. Deus Ex 2. I am thinking of getting a Radeon 9800SE 128mb. Will I see a dramatic increase in my grapical performance with this card, especially Frame rates, compared to my present card listed in my sys spec.
Maybe someone has the 9800 SE or even upgraded to it from the 9000 pro.

Cheers Guys!

you must check what value agp each card runs on and if your board supports it. I would always go for the highest memory as being better.

The 9600XT has the R300 which supports DX9 and Shader Model 2.0... SWTOR requires an X1800 at minimum. Try the SM 2.0 enabler patch you mentioned earlier and see if it helps...

I have been having several problems with my ATI Radeon 9200 128mb AGP graphics card. My motherboard supports 4x and 8x AGP. I am able to play several old games on it, but nothing newer than diablo II. For example, on my old Radeon 64mb PCI card I was able to play Neverwinter Nights without a problem. Now however, I am hardly able to even choose anything in the opening menu. After several hours of trying different things and reading different forums, I think the problem is my inability to turn on AGP. Setting the AGP speed to either 4x or 8x, as well as turning on AGP read and write in the Catalyst Control Center simply restarts my computer, changing nothing. I can change PCI read and write from the Control Center without a problem. In my bios I have turned on AGP read and right and changed the speed from 64mb to 128mb, but it still does not say it is turned on in the Catalyst Control Center and my game (Titan Quest) still lags horribly in the opening menu. As I said earlier, I am able to play Diablo II perfectly, even with the apparent error. I have the newest BIOS and have unistalled and reinstalled the driver several times. The PC is not overheating either. There is a pin with a case over it(sorry I don't know what it is called, it it very similar to the one used to change a harddrive to master/slave etc.) on the video card, I don't know if changing this would help at all. I have spent several frustrating hours restarting my PC after installing new dr... Read more

it is a good card, just a bit older. it should handle most games ok but not at a higher setting. it does not require any extra power. just make sure you have the most recent drivers for it.

There has been issues before with this and its because of automatic updates

Turn off automatic updates

start\control panel\security\windows update\change settings\check for updates but let me choose when to download/install them

then reboot PC and download the latest driver suite from Catalyst? Drivers

reboot and repost

After purchasing and installing Dead Space for my computer, I found out it didn't work. So, I updated my graphic card drivers like most support suggests. It didn't help the game working issue, but brought some more problems to the pot.

I didn't know where to find the drivers for radeon pro 9800 128mb, so I ended using the windows automatic update for the drivers. It download and installed something and since then the mouse cursor and the small box that closes the window have started to glitching.
The mouse cursor has black stripes drawn over it. Also, in games, there are lots of small graphical errors and glitches, while there was none before.

I have tried uninstalling the drivers, installing new ones, installing old ones and messed a lot with it. Only thing that helps is reducing the hardware acceleration from full to one notch before. Doing that fixes it in the desktop, but messes up the games. After uninstalling the drivers, the glitches are gone, until windows automatically installs some drivers. Changing the cursors, enabling cursor shadow or trails also fixes the cursor problems, but doesn't help the game ones.

Any help is very very much appreciated. Sorry for the wall of text too.

Answer:Cursor corruption and glitches with Ati Radeon 9800 Pro 128mb

I don't think your old card meets the minimum requirements of the game. Further, since ATI has stopped supporting that card with drivers, you will mess up your graphics if you try to use the most current ones. Use Catalyst version 9.3 or older. That card was top of the line in its day but time has passed it by.

Hi
I have a perfectly working card, but now it's a brick as I flashed it by an accident.
I need a bios of the 128mb version of X1300.
Please try to help me - If anyone has this card, please pm me - If you don't know how to extract it's bios, I will show you, it's very simple and will not damage your card.

Already contacted Gigabyte's Techsupport, they want me to RMA the video card, too bad it's out of warranty, they are less than helpful and since I don't want to start cursing, I will stop here about their support.

Answer:Gigabyte's ATI Radeon X1300 128mb - bios needed

you can dump the card's BIOS easily with GPU-Z, so if you can't find the right file your best bet may be to just buy another one, used. i can't seem to dig up any BIOS files on any of Gigabyte's international sites or on Tech PowerUp either, and I don't have an X1300 but i may know someone who does. i will post back if i find anything out.

I have a viper 400 motherboard with a xp2400+ processor and 512 megs or ram.

My problem right now is with my video card.

so im going to break it down the best I can.

Just recently when I started having this problem , I looked at the Fan on my Video card.
It was fried .(I think dust is to blame)
so I took at old fan off of a heat sync
and unplugged the old fan and attached it to my video cards heat sync...
no luck , I think the damage has already been done...

when I turn on my power I can't look at the boot up process because my monitor will not turn on. I get an oarnge light and maybe 10% of the time it will boot up the way it should .
if it does boot up corectly ,, the video card will read at 128 megs.under the video settings
if it boots up wrong it will be 8 megs.

the monitor will finally snap on when the welcom screen on windows xp loads up and the opening sound plays.

so as much feedback as i can get on this the better ....
If my card Is shot I won't be too pissed , because I was wanting a new video card anyway...

Answer:Radeon 9100 Video card changes from 128mb to 8mb randomly

Doesn't sound good - I'm afraid I have to agree with your suspicion about the vid card being fried.

It obviously overheated when the fan died and now it can't display the basic character-mode video before Windows switches to a VGA mode.

I say replace it.

Try the 9.7 Catalyst driver/suite first. Due to it's age, that card is considered a legacy card. Not all Catalyst driver version support leagcy cards.

Dimension 2400. when i plug in the card, both the graphics card and the onboard graphics dont give out a signal. and my mouse and keyboard fail. i have no idea what to do something with jumpers?

Answer:Having trouble installing an ATI Radeon PCI 128mb graphics card

Make sure the onboard video is disabled, then try installing the card again. A no signal message displayed on the monitor is usually the result of the onboard graphics controller still being active. You should be able to disable the device in BIOS. The reason the onboard doesn't output any video either is because there is a video card installed, it's basically a BIOS hardware conflict.
