Windows XP shows Windows 98

Question: Windows XP shows Windows 98

Hey again,

now I know your response would of been something like change the theme back to Windows XP...well the thing is that that feature is missing. It just shows my classic theme and such.

It doesn't look like anythign Windows XP looked like when I got it...it's 98. For example, the start button and the bar along the bottom. Also, the right click option on the desktop as well.

It's very irritating, and this really isn't that bad of a problem next to a virus, but I'm just very...uh

Here's a ss of what I mean.

Thanks,
Manny

Preferred Solution: Windows XP shows Windows 98

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

New modem installed by ATT.  Before new modem installed, networked printer and laptop were both on-line and working.  After putting  the modem ID and password into  HP photosmart-C6180 All in one printer, it  shows connected.  However, the online HP Pavilion dv6-2150 recognizes the printer, but shows it "off line".

Hi guys. I just upgraded my processor to an AMD 8350. It replaced my Phenom. This is the 3rd day the new processor has been in the computer. First two days everything went fine. Ran Prime 95 and IBT to make sure i was up and stable. This morning (3rd day) got up, turned on the computer, and now i have less usable ram than i had last night. No matter how many times i restart, it shows less in windows than what bios shows. It says either 4,6, or 8gb usable ram (it changed just about every time too). I have reseated all the ram. I have moved them around. I have reseated the processor. I have clean installed windows 7 home premium x64. Does anyone have any ideas? This is the first issue with RAM i have ever ran into. Also, when i am in bios, and i go to the RAM settings, everything shows up like it is supposed to. Details, options, timings, etc. Not really sure where to go from here.

Answer:12gb ram shows in bios, only 4,6,or 8 usable shows in windows

In most AMD CPUs, the memory controller is on-die in the CPU. Maybe your FX-8350 is malfunctioning.

Also:

- Do you have the correct voltage for your memory set in BIOS?
- What kind of memory is it? (brand name, model, and speed)
- Have you tried putting the Phenom back in to see if the 12GB memory comes back?

Hello guys,

I have some weird problem in my Windows 7 PRO x64bit Setup dual boot on another partition with Windows 8 CP x64.. (Windows 7 installed 1st then Windows 8)

Both OS boot and load just fine. No problem at all, but when Im on windows 7 and when I choose hibernate from start menu it hibernates the system,

but when I power it ON again, and choose Windows 7 from the boot menu, Windows Error Recovery apprears, says that It wasn't properly shutdown something like that with the timer and choices to boot into safe mode, safe mode with command and Normal..

my laptop set to hibernate after few hours of sleep, but when I turned it on and choose Windows 7 from boot menu, again Windows Error Recovery comes up that it wasnt properly shutdown.

When I choose Normal from windows error recovery, windows 7 loads just fine.

my question is; why is that saying Its not properly shutdown when I use hibernate..

this was started when I dual boot with Windows 8 CP....

anyhelp would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Answer:Resume from Hibernate Shows Windows Error Recovery in Windows 7

anyone can help me on this issue?

A friend of mine told me that their Windows 8 laptop crashed and they didnt create the recovery set for it. They were going to borrow another friends Windows 8 disc to install clean and use the key that their system would normally have on it like all prior versions of Windows had and surprise, no alpha numeric key, just a Windows Logo sticker on the bottom of the laptop. They haven't attempted the install of Windows 8 clean yet as for without a key, how would you successfully install it. He asked me if the key was hidden in the BIOS somehow similar to how some of the older HP /Compaq computers use to have a piece of data in the BIOS that a recovery set verified before allowing to use the recovery set on that system, so that you couldnt use a HP/Compaq recovery set on a Dell that also had a similar motherboard and specs etc. This was beyond my knowledge of Windows 8. I suggested that he contact the laptop manufacturer Samsung and see if they can send him or sell him a recovery set. But the question still stands... where is the Windows 8 key???

Hi

I may have done something to cause this but here is what is happening.

I download a file to any folder and when I move or delete it the file is still showing in the original folder?

After awhile I go back and it is gone? This never happened before I installed a SSD drive as my main hard drive.

Anyone know how to fix this?

Thank You

Answer:Windows 7 Windows Explorer still shows file on ssd after delete?

Hello,

I just did a clean install on my laptop after installing a new SSD. I installed the drivers that I had to install manually, and then I did a Windows update for anything else. After getting everything setup I ran my first Windows Experience Index.

Surprising, the graphics score was only 5.0, but I am almost sure it was higher with the factory installation. I am runnng Aero but with most of the visual effects turned off. I viewed the assessment details and it showed this:

If you notice, the DirectX version is 10. But when I run dxdiag the version number in the report is 11. Here is my configuration, and please let me know if more information is needed. Thank you very much.

HP Pavilion dv7-4285dx
Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit made from ISO image: X17-58997.iso
Graphics Adapter: ATI Mobility Radeon HD 6370

Answer:DXDiag shows DirectX 11 but Windows Experience Index shows DirectX 10

I believe that WinSAT only test for DirectX 10 and 9, not 11. That's why it only shows DirectX 10. If your card fails to do the DirectX 10 test, then WinSAT will only display DirectX 9. Don't worry about it. If DxDiag shows DirectX 11, then your card can support it.

Hi there - I can not get rid of old windows 7 option when I start up my laptop - it gives win 7 and win 8 as options like there are 2 os which there is not. If I try to click on win 7 option nothing happens. I have reinstalled many times and can not get rid of it. I have an ASUSF5RL

I don't know if it is connected but when I try to shut down it takes 5-30 mins for the computer to click off

How do I get rid of this?

Answer:Windows 8 install still shows windows 7 as alternative on

Press Windows Key + X, select System, then select Advanced System Settings, then the Advanced tab. Click on Startup and Recovery and in that dialog untick "Time to display list of operating systems" and make sure Windows 8 is in the above drop down. Thats it, ok and out.

Answer:Windows Update: Shows Windows 7 Sp1 is needed

Are you sure it is installed? Windows Update wouldn't find it as an update if you already have it. Go to the start menu and search "Computer". Then right click on "Computer" and select "Properties". Tell me what it states under Windows version and/or take a screenshot.

"Operating System: Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit (6.1, Build 7601) Service Pack 1 (7601.win7sp1_gdr.110408-1631)"
It it normal to have "Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit Service Pack 1" or it should have been written as "Windows 7 Service Pack 1 64-bit"
If it is normal that after upgrading to win7 SP1 it would be written as "Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit Service Pack 1" ?

- Got all 3s ... Windows XP, Game Room & Windows 98
- Clicked Windows XP boot mode
- Since I know that Windows 98 is FAT32 while Windows XP is NTFS

Here is the question:
- How do I get Windows 98 harddrive (3rd one) shows up under Windows XP's My Computer
- Under Computer Management's Disk Management only show 4 ... not 5

Answer:How do I get Windows 98 harddrive (3rd one) shows up under Windows XP's My Computer

Take that W98 line out again at Startup & Recovery Setting's Edit. It will never work anyway, because W98 must be in the first partition of the first HD on the first controller in that PC, PLUS, it must have been installed BEFORE XP. So forget that.

On your first controller (IDE0), you have those 2 XP-disks.
Set the jumpers on the W98-disk to Master, then install it at the second controller (IDE1) as master. It probably needs the older 40-wire flat IDE-cable, rather than the newer 80-wire cable.
At bootup, go into BIOS and set the master on secondary controller to 'automatic' so it recognizes the W98-HD. That should do it.
Copy your stuff over, then take that disk out again.

Currently have 32GB RAM installed on my X99 system with an Intel 5820K but according to Resource monitor on Windows 10 there is 32680MB Physical memory installed, total value of 32680MB and 87.5MB Hardware reserved,. Checking the system properties windows i have only 31.9GB RAM to play with.

Strange thing is I recently upgraded Windows 7 to to Windows 10 yesterday on another drive and there Resource monitor shows 32768MB Physical memory installed, total value of 32680MB and 87,5MB Hardware reserved. Going to the system properties it shows full 32GB. How come the two Windows 10 installations shows different numbers on "physical memory installed" and at the same time only 31.9GB on the first one and 32GB on the second one?

As far as i know i don't have any hardware currently reserving RAM since i run a dedicated card and the 5820K doesn't have an integrated graphic card.

Answer:Windows shows i have 31,9GB RAM

There will always be some memory in hardware reserved, it is not just for integrated video. The value for total RAM is subject to rounding and the rules that govern this are undocumented.

Hi, I don't understand what is going on here. I have install clean Windows 7 64-bit Ultimate it was not upgrade. And i have 4 gb (2 x 2gb) Kingston memory on 800 mhz and GTS 250 graphic card. My windows only detect 2 Gb when i go to task bar or system properties. My bios during start up shows me 4 gb and cpuz also shows me 4 gb but Windows 7 64-bit Ultimate only shows me 2 gb. I am aware that some 32 systems can't detect too much ram but this is 64-bit system. And windows also shows me that is 64-bit when i go to system properties but only shows me 2 gb of ram and i have 4 gb. Any help would be great.

Answer:Windows 7 64-bit only shows 2 Gb Ram

And I thought only seeing 3.5gb out the 4gb total was bad on the 64bit 7 RC here!

Welcome to the Sevenforums! hardcoremore

You may have seen a bad install or something is seeing half of the memory installed being mapped out to hardwares real fast. The one thing I would suggest here however is running memtest to see if you have a slightly faulty dimm. While a bad dimm usually will cause errors to be seen it seems one out of the pair is unavailable in Windows for some reason.

hello ,

now what i need to do is go to your (device manager)

now once there you will want to select from the toolbar of the window(veiw) then a drop down menu / from it you will select (show all hidden devices)

now if you see any (red or yellow) quotation marks , make a note of what they

now go to the (event veiwer) this is thru the (administrator tools) in the control panel
here you will find 3 to 4 subcatagories

you will want to check each of them for this is where windows keeps track of all errors
now you will want to make notes of the errors that have been recorded ( you do not have to make notes of double entries just of the dates of their happenings & how many there is)
you will get more information on the errors if you (right) click them / then select properties

Hi man. First of all, how about update and complete system specs at your profile. In some cases, such info will be "V.I.Info" - "very important info". Take some time to do it. You may use this one in case of doubts "getting closer": Speccy - Download
Go to: Windows start search bar and type "cleanmgr" - without quotes. When it prompts, select ssd, press OK. Let it verify - it may take some time. Check the boxes but do it slowly, be aware, right?! When you feel "satisfied", press OK and see what happens. You'd download and install this one too CCleaner - Slim
But let box checked at default install.

Let us know the results.

Answer:Microsoft shows off Windows 8.1

This is all that most people here care about:

We’ve improved the way you navigate to Start with the mouse by changing the Start “tip” to be the familiar Windows logo. The new tip appears anytime you move the mouse to the bottom left corner of the screen, and is always visible on the taskbar when on the desktop. There are also options to change what the corners do, and options to boot into alternate screens. For example, if you prefer to see the Apps view versus all the tiles, you can choose to have the Start screen go directly to Apps view.Click to expand...

Yes, you can bypass the Start screen and boot straight to the desktop. You can also synchronize the backgrounds of the Start screen and desktop, making the transition between the two environments less jarring and more natural. And one of the most important elements of the desktop environment, File Explorer, is getting a significant change.Click to expand...

Hi,

I had a problem of some registry entries being corrupted
and it was suggested that I repair them per Microsoft
knowledge base. I was not confident enough to do it,
so I decided to do a fresh install instead. Now, when
I reboot the PC, two "Windows XP Professional" show up
in the menu and I have to choose one of them.
How can fix this so that I don't have to choose anything
but it would boot directly with the WinXP that I have
installed.

I wonder if there is a bug in MS setup/install process itself.
I had C, D, and E drives as NTFS. I have my data on D
so I did not want to format it. I wanted to try installing
linux on part of the HD so I decided to change the filesystem
to FAT32 for E, and I chose 'format' when installing XP on C.
Upon rebooting two winXP show up in the menu.
So I did another install and in the process saw that
windows that there was one on the C drive and one on the
E (which earlier had absolutely nothing on it). So I formated
E this time. Then formated C and installed XP on it again.

One more significant piece of information is that when I
do a fresh install of XP now, it says you have chosen to
install on a partition which has another OS on it! I thought
that OS (the currently running XP) would be blown away
in the formatting process.

Does this have anything to do with MBR and is there a way
to fix it?

Thanks

Answer:Two Windows XP shows up upon reboot

It looks like you did a second install of XP in a different location then the previous installation or you did not format the same drive before doing the new installation.

Check to see if both options boot and if they are different O/S's.

If it turns out to be the same or one fails to load the you modify the boot.ini file. Go to Start -> Run -> type MSCONFIG -> and click on BOOT.INI. There's a button for Check all Boot Paths that you should first use. If that doesn't work then you can manuallly edit the file to remove the second entry - if the default boot menu item works then you want to delete the other item in the O/S list.

Also, it might be easier to remove any unwanted partitions before installing Windows in Windows, this avoids accidently ending up installing the O/S on a different partition or getting a duplication. Its very easy to try and format a partition and then accidently install Windows onto that partition. Therefore its easier to leave that till later; you can specify the size of the one partition during the install, obviously smaller then the size of the drive so there is some free space, and then create any additional partitions in Windows after the install. To do that go to Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> Computer Management -> Disk Management and you can delete, create and format partitions.

I recently built a computer using an Intel D915PBL mobo and a 3.0ghz P4 w/ HT processor (lga 775). I put 4gbs of RAM in there the first time and I installed WinXP SP3 (x32). It was only showing on the My Computer properties that I had only 2.87gbs? I know that I saw the bios read the 4gbs so I know my ram is working. I did a little reaserch and ppl kept saying that x64 OS's showed the 4gbs. So, I tried installing WinXP SP2 (x64). I did a fresh install by booting the disk 4rm the bios and installing the new XP on top of the hard drive that had the old Xp thus reformatting the hd and giving WinXP x64 a fresh installation. Guess what? It still only shows 2.87gbs of RAM on the My Computer properties. I don't know what to do anymore. Anyone know HOW to fix this? Thnx 4 reading.

Answer:Windows XP only shows 2.87GB of RAM? Even on x64?

I'm guessing you use onboard graphics? That's likely where your ram is going, you should be able to configure how much goes to your onboard graphics through your bios.

I have read many posts attempting to solve my own issue all the while failing. Some proper assitance will be needed so I needed to create my own post.

I have a Seagate 1.5TB HDD I have been using for a couple years. My girlfriend is a photographer and she filled up the drive. Prior to being able to afford a new one she crashed windows and it would no longer start up.

Bought a new drive, thought my task would be simple. however, upon booting windows 7 to my new drive the old drive had not shown up. I checked the bios and it is visible there. The Data on that drive is irreplaceble. So by attempting to solve my own issue here is what I have tried.

-Checking bios for other drive boot options
-switching the cables on the drive multiple times
-using a different computer
-checking disk management
-using seagate drive tools
-using windows boot disk
-using Memory Diagnostic Tools

only other method I have read but havent tried is using an external casing in an attempt to get it to apper, however I have my doubts on whether that would work. (If I am wrong please correct me)

So to be Clear
-HDD with essential data on it. (Seagate 1.5TB)
-Shows up in Bios
-Does not show up in Window 7, Disk management, or in Seatools. Also will not appear for a Windows install disk.

I appreciate The Help!!!!

Answer:HDD shows up in BIOS but not Windows

Is the 1.5 TB drive the one that had Windows installed to it? If so, it is pretty likely you are screwed.. I mean, there are some options you have, but none have a real high success rate on a drive that has failed.

Check out the tools on Hirens boot CD. Boot from that, and have a go with a few of those tools, that is your best chance now outside of professional recovery. Professional recovery costs will strongly test how "irreplaceable" those pictures are.

I have dell dimension 4600 P4 2.8 and 1.5 gigs of ram. PC came with 512(2x256) of ram and later i added 2 more sticks of 512 Dual Kingstone ram. Everything was working fine untill my HDD burned i bought a new HDD and instulled it it was givving me hard time so i flashed the bios and evrything was fine. Now i dicovered my pc is running slower and that Windows XP only recognizes 256 out of my 1.5 wich was working fine before, i switched the ram places and no matter wat i do even if i leave just one 512 stick in my pc windows still only see 256, but in the bios it say 1536 so i dont think its a problem with the bios they show evreything fine weather i put in 256 1 gig or 512 the bios show the right amount but windows always shows 256. Can anyone plsea help me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Answer:Windows only shows 256 out of 1.5 gigs of ram

First guess. Flashing the BIOS is for when you HAVE problems. I would flash back to see if the problem goes away. I know it sounds nuts. Its not.

Hi, my daughter's Surface Pro 4 has the "Windows Product Key" screen. I went through the self guided steps that included a batch file to run, clean-hkcushel, after that I scanned with Malwarebytes and fixed all problems found. Rebooted the computer and desktop loaded fine for the first few seconds, then there was a pop up from the UAC to allow a file called prsetup.exe to run, I chose No and then the  "Windows Product Key" came back. At this point I was able to access the Task Manager to End Task of a file called fatalerror, this got rid of the  "Windows Product Key" screen and gave me back my desktop. After a few tries at rebooting nothing changed, ran the Malwarebytes scan a few times with 0 problems found. Downloaded HitmanPro, scanned and found no major problems.

At this point I found out that the prsetup file that keeps trying to run was located in a temp file, deleted it and now I don't get the popup anymore but the  "Windows Product Key"screen comes up anyway, this time I can not see the Task Manager anymore. Booted to Safe Mode and copied RKill and ran it before scanning with Mawarebytes and then HitmanPro and then AdwCleaner, all show 0 problems.

I then decided to try and run a Kapersky Rescue from a bootable USB. No matter what try I can not boot from USB. Disabled Boot Secure, Boot Cofiguration changed, tried more than one USB drive.

Okay, so I AM connected to the wireless router, as is the other PC on the network (that PC is running XP). I used to be able to print to the printer that is connected directly to the XP computer, but now it keeps telling me it is offline. So, upon further investigation, I tried to figure out why and try to access the XP computer, I get the error that this computer (Windows 7) is not connected to a network, so I open network and sharing center and try to connect to a network. Then the popup in the system tray pops up that shows me connected to the Internet, but "NOT CONNECTED - Connections are available" - what the hell does that mean? So then I open network and sharing center and select choose homegroup and sharing options. THEN I get the error "This computer belongs to a homegroup" with the error "homegroup is not available because i'm not connected to a network" - and the viscious cycle begins again.

I go over to the XP and look at workgroup and both PCs are listed. When I click on mine (Windows 7), it wants a username and password. I don't remember what those are!

Whenever I try to access the printer that is connected to Win 7 PC FROM XP PC, I get a denied access error!

Please help! I have two computers and two printers that I just want to be able to use both printers with both computers!

The very 1st thing to do is open up the case and reseat your IDE & molex connectors. It's not uncommon for one of these connectors become loose or slightly ajar. Boot up normally to Windows and see if you can access the DVD drive.

If that doesn't work, I would try booting up in safe mode and see if it shows up in the device mangler. If so, remove the device and reboot the system. XP has a large driver database, so it would search for a suitable driver upon reboot.

Hey guys

I got myself an older PC from Compaq, with some sort of pentium processor and so on....

The only thing it needed was a harddrive. Because i had 2, i installed both of them inside my PC.

When i installed a new partition for XP, it could find my 2 harddisks without no problems.

But when i was done installing Xp and all the drivers, i could only see the main drive C:

When im inside the device manager, i can see that it can find both drives with no problems, and it doesnt have any problems with any of them.

So how come i cant see both drives?

BTW: im using Windows XP Professional SP3

Answer:Solved: Windows Xp only shows 1 drive!

what can it see in disk manager
start
control panel
admin tools
computer manager
disk manager

It should see both drives - but one may be unformatted or have a drive ID
you should be able to right click assign a drive ID and format

Hi, I am new here and I didn't know where to write my problem - sorry for this.

It started two days ago, I just simply opened a new folder I copied my files into it and they didn't have the .jpg icon anymore, just a white paper icon and no thumbnail. Than I opened my Pictures folder and the same thing happened with all of the icons.
All the files with shown extensions have this white paper icon and the shortcuts are blank, like they wasn't there at all, only their title.

I have tried to go to Control Panel > System > Advanced System Settings > Advanced Tab > Settings > Visual Effects and I clicked "Adjust for best appearance", but it didn't help at all.
I have tried also to change the size of the icons but nothing.

I have Windows 7 Ultimate, on a Dell Studio 17 laptop.

I really need help, I have no idea what happened,

Thank You, waiting for your asap answer

Answer:Windows 7 doesn't shows icons at all

Hello RJTH, and welcome to Seven Forums.

Is this with any specific image file extenstions, or just for all of them? Does it do this with program shortcuts as well?

You might see if rebuilding the icon cache and clearing the thumbnail cache may help.

This is a minor nuisance but still it wasn't an issue in XP or even Vista.

My Windows 7 Pro still shows the name as USER if looking in the folder "C:\". For example, there are 2 user accounts, both Administrators. When Windows 7 boots, you have a choice to log into SAM or JOY. However, everytime you want to install a new app, USER shows up as the name. And Sam doesn't show up as a USER but the following: C:\USER and C:\JOY in C Drive.

How do I change USER to SAM even though the profile in the GUI show shows SAM already?

Answer:Windows Directory shows USER not NAME

I believe you can change the name, but is only cosmetic, but may serve your purpose.

1) Start> Control Panel

2) Click User Accounts (If you do not see this option, click View by: Small icons).

3) Click Change your account name to change the account you are logged in with. Or click Manage another account to change another accounts name

4) Type the new name for the account, then click Change Name

You cannot change the actual name without creating a new account and transfering everything over. That can be done if you desire. A Guy

Dear all,

I have just bought X300 with 4GB memory. When I looked at the "Physical Memory" in the Windows Task Manager, it has only 1789Mb physical with 1056 Cached. It that normal?

I have also installed "All CPU Meter" for Windows sidebar... it shows the same thing.

Is it true that if you set your virtual memory to another drive (not c:), it will improve the performance.

Thanks for your help.

Answer:Qosmio X300 - Windows shows too little RAM

Firstly, Windows 32bit can only map about 3GB of physical RAM, so you need to use Windows Vista 64bit to access the whole 4GB.

Secondly, the 3D Card may be using some RAM as Video Memory.

How much Video memory does the system report? Run DXDIAG to find out.

Also download and run CPU-Z, it will show you the Physical RAM Module size.

Hello guys!

I am facing strange problems with one of my two A60s. I have just upgraded both of them with identical 1024 MB RAM. One runs perfectly, but the other one shows me only 410 MBs within Windows. The BIOS shows the correct size. I have changed the RAM from one to the other, but this strange error is still present. The BIOS version has been updated to 1.90 and the Windows XP has SP2.

Do you have any suggestions or ideas? Is there an easy way to reset the RAM management within Windows?

Thank you in advance!

Answer:Satellite Pro A60 - Windows XP shows/uses only a part of available RAM

It?s very strange.
I have found a additional info the Satellite Pro A60 was delivered with a different hardware configuration.
Some Pro A60 was delivered with a 512MB internal memory and other with only 256MB internal memory.
Furthermore the internal memory modules cannot be removed and there is only one slot for memory upgrading.

But I don?t know why the OS shows only 410MB

Oh, I have forgotten to mention that the shared memory graphic card use also the part of the main memory and therefore the OS could shows a different memory value.

Well, the title sums it up really...

I OC'ed my AMD Phenom II X3 720 BE to it's 16x multiplier, at a comfy 3.2 GHz, just to test things and familiarize myself with it's voltages. After I set the thing to 16x and rebooted, I checked windows to see if it actually showed 3200 MHz, but it didn't. I then ran CPU-Z and Core Temp, both of which showed exactly 3200 MHz and a 16x multiplier.

My question: Is this just a bug in windows and is my CPU actually 3,2 GHz, or is there something else going on?

The fact that CPU-Z shows higher, changing, voltages (BIOS Core Voltage is set to 'Auto') means to me that windows is doing it wrong. But I might be completely mistaking.

Also, on a sidenote, I wondered if the popular 'Can You Run It' webservice shows realtime CPU clock speed, or just the stock value. Because it's showing the stock value for me, but I thought it might just be getting that from where windows is getting it (the wrong location I hope that is).

Any assistance on the matter would be greatly appreciated.

Marty9231

Answer:Windows shows different CPU frequency than CPU-Z/BIOS

CPU-Z is more accurate then windows with these things, i would say if both it and the bios says you have then windows isn't reading it properly

Hello, I have a AOC 2460 monitor running 144hz. I have had for quite some time, just not bothered to fix it before now. It supports 144hz, and it shows in windows, when i right click -> screen resolution -> advanced settings -> monitor. I have 144hz checked, and it looks like it should be working properly, but my screen is clearly not displaying 120hz or 144hz. I have to correct output on my pc (I have two, one supports 144hz, one does not). I also have the correct DVI Cable. I'm not very computer savvy, so any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Edit: Running AMD Radeon HD 6800 gpu, if it matters. I have tried both 120hz and 144hz

Answer:144hz shows in windows, but is not working

Hello imaginecats mate would like to know what the motherboard is if you cannot see it labelled on it see this and use PART B: in it there will be a motherboard section click on it. Now the number of the board is usually in quite a clear title see pic
Using HW Info
PART A:
You can test the volts on the PSU with HW Info HWiNFO, HWiNFO32/64 - Download < download the right bit version and close the right hand window select Sensors and scroll down to the power section where you will see what the volts are doing see my pic. In my pic the section (Nuvoton) with VBATT as a dead give away you are in the section for the rail voltages. There are other section titles and one that pops up often is ITE (sometimes the usual one for Gigabyte boards)
Now the voltage on the different rails have to be within 5% =+/- of what is required or the machine will not work properly if at all.
Limits +/-
12v = 11.4 ? 12.6v
5v = 4.74 ? 5.25v
3.3v = 3.135 ? 3.465v
The Power good signal voltage at pin 8 on the 24 pin plug (grey cable) should be the same as the 5v rail reading/s
See this for the rail voltage info
PSUs 101: A Detailed Look Into Power Supplies (Section 2.)
The original right hand window shows the machine running and is handy for that but for looking at the components in some detail close it and use the main left hand side panel
FOR OTHER COMPONENTS
PART B:
Open each small square with + in it on the section the components are in and then click on the indiv... Read more

My system is Windows 2000, fully patched.

When I launch Windows Explorer with the folder tree open, under Desktop it often times shows ALL my items below it twice. So, instead of seeing:

Desktop
--- My Documents
--- My Computer
--- My Network Places
--- Recycle Bin

I sometimes see:

Desktop
--- My Documents
--- My Computer
--- My Network Places
--- Recycle Bin
--- My Documents
--- My Computer
--- My Network Places
--- Recycle Bin

This does NOT seem to happen consistently. I've never been able to discern a pattern. On a positive note, this appears to cause no problems whatsoever that I can tell. Everything works just fine. I think it's just a problem with Windows Explorer, but I'm not sure.

Has anyone ever seen this before?

Michael

Hello, community! I purchased Y460 with FreeDOS. At first I found that I cannot make recovery image via OKR button and that I need Windows to do that. There was a free space between FreeDOS C: partition and recovery partition, so I just  created extended partition and installed windows and ubuntu into logical partitions.Windows placed its BCD files on FreeDOS partition, and now I cannot boot into freedos. But the most strange thing is that when I boot using OKR button I get only wallpaper and cmd terminal window with X:\windows\system32> What should I do now in order not to lose my warranty?P.S. sorry for my English

I than had to changed to a new email address and password which I did and signed in. But now when I try to buy something from the windows store it goes to my old email and password. How do I get rid of that old login and password that is blocked.

Answer:Can't buy anything from windows store, shows up old login

Hello dholen, and welcome to Eight Forums.

Double check to see which Microsoft account you are signed in to the Store with. From what you say, it's the old account, and you can use the method in the tutorial below to sign in to the Store with your new account instead.

Help me, please. I'm not a keen Windows user, I know little about it. I prefer running it via Parallels in the background of Mac OS without seeing it...
My friend asked to help him.
When he is running Far Cry or Sentinel (games) on his PC, Windows shows BSOD: 0x0000000A: IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL (общий обзор) and then reboots. After rebooting the game starts well. But then, after another rebooting the same mistake comes again.
What's up with Windows and what does this mistake mean?
Thanks

Hi there,
My computer was infected with a malware a few months ago.
I am not sure if it was cleaned.
Sometimes when I log in, right after I type in the login name, the computer shows the wallpaper and nothing else on the screen. I was unable to do anything. However, the mouse cursor is still working.
When I try to shut down the computer, the same thing happens sometimes.
Let me know if there is anything else I can provide.

thanks in advance,

I have been having some strange issues related to the big update that was released yesterday (specifically, the one labeled as KB2919355 in Windows Update). When I went to download the update, the progress indicator froze at "4% Complete". When I went to shut down last night, it actually installed that update (apparently it did download even though Windows Update thinks it didn't). When I booted back up this morning, Windows Update was showing that same update as being available even though it's already listed in the Installed Updates section.

After trying various methods to get it to work properly (renaming the SoftwareDistribution directory via admin-level Command Prompt, uninstalling and attempting to reinstall the update both via Windows Update and the manual packages), I'm now at the point where I was before, except that Windows is now showing a second already-installed update as being available as well (KB2933809).

How do I resolve this issue? I don't want to hide the updates as I'm afraid that might affect future updates (since most updates released after a Service Pack are typically dependent on having it installed to begin with).

Answer:Windows shows installed updates are available

I've avoided installing this update. I'm afraid it will mess up my computer.

Windows 10 shows the apps names different or odd
Hey there,
It has been a few days I have installed windows 10 on my pc. Windows default apps names are Strange.Heres a photo:

Answer:Windows 10 shows the apps names different or odd

Apparently you have different things on your Win10, I have nothing identifiable with what you show but then the full names aren't all visible, can't see what they are. I have no Other entry in my list. Does the @ symbol before the names suggest something involving texting, maybe involving a Smart Phone?

This is a strange problem I have been having for the last couple of weeks. I've googled it but can't find any one else having this problem. I have looked through the Event logs but everything is normal.

After a restart, locking my computer using Ctrl - Alt - Del or Win - L works normally and the screen saver screen appears, hiding my open windows and background along with the "Computer Locked" window.

But after a few days, each time I lock the PC, only the "Computer Locked" window appears and all my open windows are visible behind it. Then I'll have problems with windows not appearing correctly, I'll have to restart Windows and everything is back to normal for a few days.

Every heard of this? Any ideas? I'm running XP Pro with SP3 and the latest updates, including current graphics drivers.

Thanks in advance,

Phil

I am in the process of setting up a new laptop. With the help and advice from many members here I have successfully stopped WU from doing anything with W10. Thank you very much !

I noticed that it states I am set to receive updates for Windows only. How do I change it for other products as well? I am sure I'm missing something simple.

Answer:WU shows update for Windows only. How to change?

Would this be what you're looking for? Device Installation Settings Then follow Step #1 under Here's How:

A dialog box will open and offer a yes or no question if you want windows to d/l'd software and realistic icons for your devices, click on yes, then follow the remaining steps as to how you want windows to treat these updates; Whether to allow an automatic install or allow you to choose.

Hello SevenForums,

Ever since running some registery cleaner I have been having issues with my windows explorer.
I never should have touched my registery with untrusted software in the first place..

I know most of you will probably suggest me to reinstall but I would prefer to just put the registry entries back in place as I have a lot installed on my computer.

Whenever I try to start up "Computer" or control panel it shows the explorer but the contents are blank.

Could anyone help me out with this annoying problem?

I run Windows 7 SP1 64 bit.

I already scanned my disk for issues (sfc /scannow) but nothing was found.
Please note that I also have read several threads regarding this issue but I do not have Virtual Clone Drive installed, if that may help.

Best regards,
Mark Visser

Answer:Windows Explorer shows blank

Welcome
This could be fixed with a system restore.
Go back a few days before the problem
System Restore

In the future this is all you need to do to maintain the computer and stay away from Reg cleaners etc.
To maintain your computer

10 Tips on How to Properly Maintain Your Computer

Steps that I did not notice on the guide include:

Running a scan disc before doing a defrag

Using Microsoft Security Essentials and Malwarebytes.

Making System Restore points, at least once a week

Makaing a system Image once a month (varies by user)

Not relying on your A/V common sense, should prevail. You know of many sites can cause a problem.

Do not use any reg cleaning or optimizing software.

Download and use Ccleaner about once every two months. Untick any registry entries.

If you follow these instructions, you will be trouble free for a long time to come.

Be sure to back up your hard drive about once a month (varies by user) and to keeep system restore points up to date.

Even my start up shows 64 Mb, when I access the Video card through windows, It shows Iīve got a 32 Mb card, what I think itīs not possible because I think all GF4 are at least 64Mb.
Recently I have configured my PC with Windows Xp SP2. I donīt know if my problem is related to this action but I guess so.
Could you help me?
Where can I find old working drivers if avaliable?

I've seen a lot of threads about Libraries, but can't find one that addresses (in a way I can understand) my problem. I can navigate to a given folder, say "My Pictures" either through my user name or through "Documents/My Pictures" The two methods show different content for the folder. This is driving me batty, as I have to go back and forth to find particular files. I have even tried downloading replacement software for Windows Explorer, and still have this problem. Maybe I'm old-fashioned, but the way my brain works, a file should be in one place (which I understand it is) and found in one way. Can these multiple routes be eliminated?

Answer:windows explorer shows different contents

So, okay, this might not exactly be related to me, but I'm helping out a friend and want to spare him the bother of registering, because he usually asks me for advice; and usually I can help him out with anything. But this time I just can't remember how to fix this "bug" because I've never experienced it myself (on Windows 7).

So, here's a snippy of what the thread title refers to:

As you can see, that pretty much looks like the old XP style window-dragging option that anyone was able to set. But in Windows 7, I've never even seen this option, so I'm wondering if it's a bug or a problem with the GPU drivers or something.

I asked the friend to run the troubleshooting wizard for Aero, and it didn't display any errors. Also suggested him to check the "adjust appearance and performance of Windows" window, and all the settings are checked correctly just like on my sistem.

So I'm out of ideas. Seriously.

Answer:Dragging windows only shows the border! Bug?

in a explorer window click organise , folder and search options/ view tab, check the box show content when dragging
actually that option doesnt seem to be in the view list, i know there is a check box to show content whilst dragging, hang on i'll see where it is

A friend asked me to sort out his PC but so infected with viruses etc that the only real option was to format it. PC is a Dell Dimension 2400 on the first attempt there was 2 existing partitions a small unlabeled one and the C drive plus some unallocated space. Formatted it using the Dell reinstallation CD but was still incredibly slow so decided to get rid of the unlabeled portion of the drive by deleting all the partitions then formatted it again. Now I have two operating systems showing when I boot up and have to select one of them. Tried formatting again to make sure I had selected the correct option to format the disk but still get two operating systems? How can I remove one of them or force a format that will ensure I only get one operating system? Never had a problem formatting before but have always had a genuine windows XP disk previously not a restore disk.Any help would be gratefully receivedIan

Answer:Formated PC shows 2 windows installs?
