Question: modem drivers

i have cable modem and connection to my computer with ethernet cable is there a place i can update my modem drivers?

Relevance 100%
Preferred Solution: modem drivers

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

hi, i have an aztech industries or someothing 3880-U or -W modem, i can't find linux drivers for it, i looked on driverguide.com and found modem drivers for a 2800 modem for linux, what are the chances of this driver recognizing my modem in linux?

Answer:older modem drivers work for current modem in linux

not a chance, i never got mine to work, i think you need to give up. Stick with ethernet and broadband mate. You can keep trying but i doubt you get anywhere, sorry to be horrible but i dont see any chance at all, (because of personal experiences with linux and old modems. :-)

How old is the modem?? I have an old atztech from about 7 years ago and i know i could never get that work with linux.

I don't know the model or the type. The stuff I put in when installing it in the control panel(it was already physically installed in the computer, but wasn't dialing) is a bunch of guesses.

This is all the info I have about a modem that refuses to work right:

"Port: COM1" - I set it up that way when intalling through the control panel and I have no idea if that's how it should be set up.
"Interrupt: 4
Address: 3F8
UART: NS 16550AN
Standard 56000 bps V90 Modem" - Again, I set the bold part up when installing via the control panel and have no idea if that's set up right.

"Identifier: USRK2_Gen"

I googled the identifier and found that it was a USRobotics modem, but that's all I know about it.

Can anyone help me find a driver for a modem. I don't know the maker of the modem and I have no drivers that will work on it. The modem does work but I was forced to format my hard drive and when reloading the software I discovered that I did not have a modem driver. I pulled the card and looked at it but I could not see a manufacture on it.
It does have a maple leaf on it so I think it might be from Canada. It's a 56k modem in a windows 98 machine. It has a chip on it that says datatronics.
Is there anything like a generic driver for a modem?
Hey any help will be greatly appreciated.
I got out the old magnifying glass and yes it was made in Canada and it has a model number on it.
Model number:M56HI
Serial # 117072
REN:0.5B
and this might refer to a manufactures name: BRI
There is also a bar code on this thing and some numbers next to it which are: GA06PX 4260-03

Thanks

Does anyone have a Sony Vaio computer running Windows 98 that has a CNR riser modem? I need 98 drivers, am working on a Sony Vaio PCV-RX100M (foreign made, so it doesn't come up on the U.S. Sony site for any drivers) and the only drivers I can find are for XP.

Certainly it must be the same modem they put in their other systems. Aida identifies it as Nvidia nforce but it appears to be an Agere Systems AC'97 according to Sony Latin America. The number on the card itself is CNR-002(#)/A1B.

Starting to revitalise a friend's old "95" computer. Am about to install 98SE to enable a USB printer. The modem works fine, but all I can discover in the devices bit, is the description "Intel Enhanced" on Com 2 and a series of command strings. The modem itself plugs into an ISA slot and carries a Rockwell chip with the following numbers.Rockwell 97 9746 B45859-3 ...... RCVDL 56ACF/SP ...... ... and a sticky label on the circuit board with barcode says G822RU4I hope to be able to download drivers for this there is a vast array on several sites, but which driver should do I use?

Answer:Which drivers for this old ISA modem?

If all else fails and you can't seem to find the exact driver, remember that modems can work under Hayes compatibility as well...Win 95+ allows you to use Hayes compatible drivers, and if I remember there's a few Rockwell compatible as well in the driver-list...These should work fine...

Question: Modem drivers???

I am increasingly having problems with getting *complete* modem driver software.

On a number of occasions I have been rebuilding machines which have a working modem and there is no driver CD available. Although I search and download drivers which claim to be adequate for the modem, they tend to be unable to cope with the PCI communications device that the modem uses, i.e. the comms port.

Can some knowledge-enabled body enlighten me as to the processes which are involved; is there some way round this comms installation problem?

Also, given that the modem works on the old system, is there some way of getting together all the drivers and other stuff from that system so that it can be reinstalled on the new system?

Question: Modem drivers????

Okay, I got an ol' Win95 system from 1997 and I had to reformat the hard drive. I got the video and sound card reinstalled, but the modem won't show up. I have the modem DRIVERS, but usually under device manager it appears underneath other devices as "PCI Communications Device". But that's not there! So I can't get to it to reinstall the drivers. All I see under other devices is: PCI Bridge. Huh? Any help is appreciated......... I was thinking maybe I had to fool around with the bios a little?

Answer:Modem drivers????

Poo--

I don't think the BIOS/CMOS is your answer, unless Plug-N-Play is disabled--did PNP pick up your sound card?

If there's no modem icon in your Control Panel window and none in Device Manager, try physically pulling the card, starting Windows (see if you get errors), and then shutting down, reinstalling the card, and starting Windows again. Maybe Windows will detect the modem as a new device.
Forgive me if this is a dumb question, but do you have Dial-Up Networking installed?

Question: Modem Drivers Help

I have a problem with my modem driver. I have an HP 6630 Pavilion. Well, I had to replace the cd rom, Well, guess what? The recovery cd's that came with the PC don't work with the new CDRW I bought. I must have spent 2 days fooling around with this before I went to a friends house who still had HP support. Thats when I found out that I couldn't use the new CDRW to put my old system back. The new CDRW doesn't reckonize the recovery cd's. So now I had to go out and buy a new O.S, (WIN ME) FOR $200.00 that would work with the new CDRW.
Now for the life of me I can't find the drivers for the modem that came with the system. The modem doe's work. I looked everywhere. Drivers.com, HP, Google, with no joy. I don't want to spend another $100.00 buying a new modem just cause I don't have drivers for the old one.
I'm so mad at HP right now I could spit fire!!! How dare them make the consumer pay for another O.S system. We already paid for the one that came with the PC! Even if I can't find the drivers, I want everyone to know what a bunch of jerks these people are to there customers.

Question: Drivers for Modem

Hi guys
Basically I used to have Windows Vista, last night, and I decided to restore my comp to factory settings. It failed and just went mucked up so I decided to install XP (which I liked the idea of), I already think XP is better because Vista was soooo laggy.

Anyway, I usually have a light at the bottom of my computer to tell me about the wireless connection, but it's not there. Neither can I connect to wireless, and I'm using ethernet atm. I also had no sound, which I solved because I downloaded drivers for it and it works fine.

The problem is 'Modem Device on High Definition Audio Bus', I don't know what to do to make this problem solved. I have an Advent computer if that helps.

Thanks

Welcome to Seven Forums: Not a very user friendly support page. I can for see a couple of problems one being a modem using 32 bit drivers, the other locating this particular manufacturers driver downloads. So lets try this, does it show up in your device manager? If so right click on it>then properties>details tab>drop down menu>select hardware id>Copy and Paste the hardware id string. We might get lucky and find another manufacture using the same chip that might have drivers for it. Oh also please take the time ot go to user CP (top of page) scroll down to edit system specs and fill them in. Thanks Fabe

What you need to do is determine the make and model of your PC and go to the manufacturers website and download the drivers from their site. If you look in your device manager (right click on my computer/pick manage/pick device manager) you should see you have a few unknown devices in there (being your audio and modem) those need to be downloaded from the manufacturers website and installed for it to work.

Hi All,

I'm having problems trying to install a modem on a fresh installation of xp.
There is a sticker of the modem with lots of numbers, but it does not specify a manufacturer. The text is as follows:

I56ISP - F00
582 - 1511 - Y01000 - 00
FCC : 2H9M502BI56SP
(barcode)
595 41 3 012818
WARRANTY VOID IF REMOVED FOO|PO4|BO1|FO1

An FCC# search returns 'Lectron CO.' as the manufacturer. So I assume that I'm looking for the Lectron I56ISP - F00 drivers. However I cannot find them. Any suggestions? Thanks much for your time.

General information about modem setups. I was working on a E-machine 663IS, the warrantor had sent a generic Conexant modem instead of the AMR (advanced modem riser ) modem that came with the machine. After removing the modem and comm1 from device manager I restarted the computer, when it stop at found PCI device I inserted the CD and tried to load the ME modem drivers the machine went haywire and froze. I restarted but had more problems so I did a restore back two months and tried again. This time it stop at PCI drivers not found on CD. So I called the trouble desk and the young man took me a new way of loading drivers at lest one I’ve not seen in the four an a half years I’ve been doing this. We went to My computer click on the CD driver, then click on the driver file and pick the ME modem drivers. Searching though all the files we found the Setup file and double click. The PCI modem drivers loaded like a dream. I hope this might help some body who is have problem loading drivers.

Can anyone identify my modem or suggest a generic driver for it?
The modem doesn't have a brand name on it. It does say CNR V1.2 and GQ3121 There is also what appears to be a logo: a backwards R and U that are joined together followed by 1 205.
I just formatted a PC with WinXP Home and it can't find the PCI Modem drivers on the WinXP disk or the web. (The PC previously worked OK with this modem, but had a pirated copy of WinXP - that's why I reformatted it.)
It's a no-name PC. I've tried updating, rollback, reinstall, uninstall and physically removed and reinstalled the card.
The PC works OK with the Wireless Card I installed and with a direct cable connection but I'm going to give it to a friend who only has a phone line for web access.

Answer:Need drivers for mystery PCI modem

Conexant PCTel. I'll see if I can find a driver. Driverguide now wants $$$ for any driver download with no guarantee that it works.
You may be able to download without paying. You do need to sign up for an account. Here's the driver, I think.
http://members.driverguide.com/driver/detail.php?driverid=194267
(if you can't see that page, let me know).

As far as the GC, all I'm finding are computers made by Fry's using the Great Quality name.

The Conextant PCTel drivers I found are from a German site but the model is not yours.
It is AC '97 models 2303, 2304 and 2588
the site
Code:
http://www.treiberupdate.de/treiber-download/treiber-Conexant%20%20PCTEL-0.html
It might be easier to tell whomever is receiving the computer that it will cost the price of a new modem. Then just install the new modem with the included drivers on the CD or let XP load the drivers.

I'm looking for a 64-bit USB Cable Modem driver that works with Vista or Windows 7.

This is my modem:
Cisco DPC/EPC2100 Cable Modem - Support - Cable Modems - Consumer - Cisco

However, none of these drivers seem to work with 64-bit.

I was wondering if there are no drivers available for this specific modem, is there a generic
64-bit USB Cable Modem available that can be used as a replacement? If so, where?

And if I'm happen to be stuck with a 64-bit OS and this modem, is there any other solution
to workaround this problem? Would it be possible to hook up a router so Windows wouldn't
see my cable modem? I'm just guessing.

Answer:64-bit USB cable modem drivers?

Can you not just hook it up via the ethernet port to your PC?

I have a self built system containing;AsRock 810lmr256 133 Crucial ram SDrAM1.3Duron.350w psu.running Me.The problem started when I changed the Hard drive from an old 4gig to a new 60GB Excelstor and fitted a 52x burner. Then I loaded xp pro on to the new HD and all went well, except the CMR modem was showing an error.I then found that it was a driver error. I loaded the new driver off the net and the yellow icon on the device manager disappeared. when I tried the modem it kept on saying it was idle and then a hardware fault.I then installed it and tried a modem from an other pc (Pc world netdragen) This also failed to load and said it was a code 10( which means reinstall). I tried another one with the same problem. What would cause this. Do you think it could be the hard drive? Or has the mobo developed a fault?Help Thanks all.

My computer is unable to detect the cable modem I'm trying to install. When I plug it in, the found new hardware wizard doesn't come up. I just installed this motherboard and I haven't gotten the drivers straightened out yet - maybe thats the problem?

Answer:Can't install modem drivers

A cable modem doesn't need drivers.

You may or may not need to setup your LAN connection with you user ID and password. It depends on your ISP, but if needed they typically supply you with a setup sheet on what to change and your login information.

Otherwise, all you need to do is run the internet connection setup wizard.

It would be easier to explain what actually works on my system but here it goes.
When having high speed internet installed on my system the tech decided that my computer would be the one that he destroyed that day. He thought it would be nice to erase several programs in windows 98 se and didn't bother to let little old me know what he did or how to rectify the situation. after the attempted installation upon start up I received more error messages than than SPAM in my e-mail. The system informed me that several windows files were corrupt and I could not even use my office 2000 programs??? Well I was a little miffed but trekked on and tried to reinstall my windows however, he erased my driver for the a: drive and I had no way of reinstalling. Now I'm not real smart but I knew I was in trouble when I YES I, erased windows from the C:drive. I knew that I, as well as, my computer needed some professional help. A friend of mine finally managed to get windows installed and I know you'll be as delighted as I was to find out that I could use my office products once again.
Now it seems that my drivers for my monitor are gone, the computer won't recognize my 10/100 eithernet card and my voodoo 2 3D driver is gone as well as my sound card driver.
To compound joy upon joy I no longer have my windows 98se CD's they decided to join that one sock that escaped from the drier in some time space continuum where intelligently challenged people like myself have no acces... Read more

Answer:Where Oh where has my Monitor/Modem/Drivers gone???

Well......

I guess you're not having the best of luck, huh?

How (if I may ask) do you acquire this system? I'm assuming that it came fully loaded, and that your sound, video, and ethernet card came loaded with the system. If this is the case, then I'll also assume that you were not given the software CD's or floppies that contain the drivers for your hardware.
You'll probably have to go to the websites of the manufacturer's of your equipment, and enter your hardware model numbers into a driver search. If you can tell us the exact models of your cards, then we can probably point you in the right direction.
As for the Win98 CD, try asking around if anybody has a copy that you could borrow. Failing that, you could start kissing the butts of your IT guys at work. They might take pity on you and let you "borrow" a copy.

I've run into a slight issue while trying to design Modem drivers (1200 baud) to be exact.

Although we have spent a fair amount of hours in the environment, we havent been introduced to threading. I understand the concept and the hooks around launching threads, I've just never actualy gotten one working properly.

My situation is as follows, using a single path application with multiple timers just wont cut it for these modems. The shortest timer is 1 ms and those little modems chunck out characters MUCH faster than that. The issue become that the software is almost unable to catch all the incoming characters, and formating packets with STX, ETX checksums and other control characters become a hastle because we are never guarenteed that the full packet was received properly. The modem keeps missing either a piece of data or one of the control chars and almost always locks the transmission until they can finaly resync. (Yes there is error checking and retransmission on an ACK/NACK system.)

#1 I Am wondering if it is prudent/possible to launch a thread on init or in a constructor that can query the UART to check if a character has come in, and if so, GRAB it right away so that the next incoming character doesnt clobber the previous one.

#2 How do I go about this? The MSDN site is very vague and has me running in circles.

So far I know that I need to create a control function to be launched ex UINT MyThread( LPVOID lparam), and launch that as a worker thread in t... Read more

Updating modem driver. Need to know exactly what procedures are involved in first backing up old or current driver on a floppy diskette. I currently see no way of backing up the driver as it is in my Add/Remove Panel in the Control Panel. Currently I have a Windows 98SE System Disk. Would this help in anyway. Please give some instructions for backing up this driver. Thanks for your time.

Hello Doc77,

Is your modem working correctly right now? If so, I would leave it alone and forget the update. Your current modem drivers can probably be found in Windows Explorer / Windows / INF / Other.

Good luck.

I can't stop having modem problems. I just purchased a US Robotics 56K PCI Faxmodem model 5699b, and am having driver problems of a sort. Both the drivers that came with the modem, as well as a slightly newer version off of US Robotics website don't work.

However the generic US Robotics 56k Fax Win drivers that are included with Windows XP work fine. With the other drivers I can connect to the internet, but can only download something like 2 k before it stops working. Sometimes it just sits there connected, othertimes it disconnects within 5 seconds. It appears that I can continue to send information, as it shows data still sending if I keep trying to access websites.

This wouldn't be a problem if the default drivers didn't hinder some advanced features of the modem. It's a v92 modem, which allows faster connecting and modem on hold features. But with the generic drivers all of those are disabled.

I cannibalized a modem out of a dead Compaq Presario that I would like to use in another PC. It is a Rockwell/CIS Series M1-5614PM3 (if that means a danged thing).

Does anyone know if I can do this, or has the thing been manufactured so it will only work in a Compaq? Also, I haven't been able to find what appears to be the right drivers for it. Do you think it would work with the standard Win 98 or USR compatible generic drivers?

Thanks!

Answer:Question about modem and drivers

Did a little searching for ya and came up with this:
http://www.cis.com.tw/TechnicalService/drivers

In the directory listing are the drivers for that modem as per the #s you supplied. There may or may not be a variation of drivers that you would need for installing that modem on another system.

Hope things go well

I have 2 computers that I am trying to network.

First off, I tried to upgrade both to Windows ME and network them using cards and hub from Netgear. I ended up reformatting both and doing a clean install of Win 98 (first edition) and then upgrades to ME.

Machine #1 will connect to the internet but it shows two different device drivers that aren’t installed and for which I can’t find the drivers. I don’t even know what to look for really. The two devices that aren’t installed are PCI Ethernet Controller and PCI Multimedia Audio. The Netgear network card shows as being installed. Also I have no sound. I bought this machine through an online auction and they preloaded everything and I was not smart enough to get all the drivers I needed before I reformatted. I am able to get online and use the machine but I am not able to network the two yet.

Machine #2 has a problem with the modem. I can install it but when I try to connect online, it states that windows could not detect the modem. It didn’t show a COM port so I added one and now it shows it in COM 1 but it still will not connect. Unfortunately, this is the machine we want to use as the shared internet connection once the network is going.

I guess what I need help with and what I am trying to accomplish are:

1. Install drivers for Machine #1 – PCI Ethernet Controller and PCI Multimedia Audio

2. Get modem working properly on Machine #2

3. Network the two together using Windows ME and share an internet connection thro... Read more

Answer:PCI drivers, modem and networking

1) PCI Ethernet is your network card. You may think you have it installed, but something is wrong. Uninstall what you think is the card, then choose this item and Update Driver for it and point it to the Netgear disks.

2) PCI Multimedia is your sound card. You will need to look inside the computer at the card and tell us what it is before we can point you to the drivers for it.

3) You cannot add a COM port to make an internal modem work. Internal modems create their own port if they are working correctly. What brand / model is the modem?

Sharing Internet is something else altogether - lets get the two machines fully working before we start in on that.

Hey, I've got a 56k PCI dialup modem that sadly needs to be pressed back into service, I only bought it about a year ago so that I could check my email in an area that has no broadband access, sadly, somewhere between then and now I've misplaced the drivers CD... I have every damned driver cd I've ever gotten, except that one. I even have my catalyst CD from my Radeon 8500LE >_> and THAT hasn't been in use for at least 3 years now.

The OS is Windows XP, the chipset on the modem is smartlink... but unless the s/n or something off it will help, thats all the info I've got on it >_<.

It would have to be a winmodem too... ubuntu looks at it in a confused manner and tells me it doesn't know what it is >_>. The winmodem drivers for linux that I've tried don't work, and I've tried both the conexant and smartlink drivers available for download on your web site, to no avail. At least, I'm fairly certain I tried them both, I downloaded the same versions from other sites, I am now downloading those drivers for the purpose of double checking.

Just for reference, I'm looking for a working copy of the drivers for windows xp if my nix references throw anyone off ^_^.
