Preferred Solution: Solved: increasing delay to load programs/load webpages

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Solved: increasing delay to load programs/load webpages

Try a few of these preformance tweaks.

I'm trying to fix a laptop for a friend. The laptop has internet connectivity, but when Internet Explorer is opened, it will only display the "cannot display the webpage" error message. What is the first step I should take in trying to resolve the problem? I'm guessing it is infected with some kind of virus -- when the screensaver appears, the picture of a girl playing a harmonica comes up along with some harmonica music.

Thanks in advance.

Answer:Solved: IE won't load webpages

Hey guys Ive got a Aspire 3620 and im trying to install my wireless internet through a DLink 524+RevE and my card will connect and I have full bars, but i cannot load any webapges, nor the router webpage (ie This i extremely annoying as I am now tied to an ethernet cord. Any suggestions?

Answer:Solved: Not getting any webpages to load - wireless

If you have encryption enabled, try w/o encryption until you get a successful session.

First determine if the problem PC is really communicating with the router when it claims to be connected.

To open a Command Window: Start - Run – cmd (command in 98SE) - OK

To determine a computer's IP address and router's IP address: open a Command Window and type
ipconfig /all

The "Gateway" is the router's IP address.

Now for some troubleshooting. Following is how to use ping to test for communication with your router, the internet, and the internet with symbolic name.

1. On the PC open a Command window and type
ping IProuter (where IProuter is the IP address of the router)

Do you get Replies, or do you get packets lost?

IF you got replies,
2. ping (or any other internet address you know)

Do you get Replies, or do you get packets lost?

If you got replies,
3. ping (or any other internet name)

Do you get Replies, or do you get packets lost?

I would like some advice.......I was advised on this bulletin board to download "GoBack" to help if I had any problems, which I did, but ended up having a few problems with it, so using the add/remove progams deleted it.
I use IE5 and can connect to ntl homepage fine. When I try to connect to other web pages, this is where the problem starts. I can connect to Tech Support Website no probs. But when I try some other websites, I get the error page come up. I try refresh and wait for the loading line at the bottom to complete, it gets about half way and then starts again. It is taking ages to load web pages, if they load at all. In the bottom left hand corner of IE it says "connecting to *******(numbers)" but it doesn't connect straight away. When the error page came up last I clicked on "Detect Network Settings", it started to do so, but still remained on the error page. Anyone got any advice as to what to do????

Answer:Solved: WebPages that take forever to load!!!

Have you tried clearing your Temorary Internet Files or Cache lately? If not, that would be the first thing to do.

Hi all,

For a while in our house we were using only US Cellular Broadband connect, which is essentially a mobile 3G USB adapter. We uninstalled this from all the computers when we recently got Charter cable internet which is being broadcasted wirelessly with a Netgear cg3000d-rg. I know that the US Cellular broadband turns off wifi connectivity, but we made sure to uninstall all the drivers and software. We have 2 comps running XP and one Macbook, all able to connect to the new router. One Acer Aspire One is the holdout. It connected wirelessly fine before, but now will not work. It says it's "connected" and assigns an IP, but no matter what browser it will not load any webpages.

Hi, hope somebody has seen this before or can help!

I have an Asus X50N Laptop running Vista Home Premium 32bit.
AMD Turion 64 2.0GHz

My problem is this:
I was installing a small program when my laptop froze completely for more than 5 minutes. I force powered it off by holding down the power button, and when I attempted to reboot, the laptop was completely dead other than the hard drive light staying on solid.

I then took out the battery and held down the power button for a minute, with the same HDD light-only result. I've reseated the RAM, repeated the first thing, and eventually gave up and left the screen open with the HDD light on.

After 5-10 minutes, the laptop suddenly came to life and showed the BIOS screen, then began to boot Windows. Unfortunately at this stage however, it just hangs at the green bar loading Windows and has done this for more than 15 minutes.

I ran a HDD test a few days back when it was working fine, and there was no sign of anything bad, but I'm going to take it out and run a full one now.

I'm not sure whether this is a software or hardware problem yet, but as the laptop delays boot even before the BIOS I'm assuming its hardware...

If anyone can help or has any suggestions to try I'd appreciate it.

Answer:Solved: Five minute delay on laptop boot, eventually hangs on Vista load screen.

Hey.My computer has been operating excruciatingly slow over the past few months, and I have no idea why. I'm pretty new to computers, as far as, being able to fix them myself. I run ESET-NOD32 as anti-virus; Zone Alarm as a firewall; and Prevx. I also regularly scan with Ad-Aware SE, Spybot- S&D, AVG, and Spyware Blaster (which I don't think that I am using correctly).I followed the steps that you have outlined in the "Preparation Guide For Use Before Posting" but was unable to get the on-line scanners to work (all 3). I was using IE at the time. All my scans come up clean, but programs are loading too slow, or not at all. I don't know what happened, but suddenly the services console takes forever to load, it is "Not responding" but after ~10 min it finally loads and works fine. The same happens for the Palm Desktop. Directory Opus (an explorer replacement) appears on the task manager but won't load at all. The console and palm desktop also appear in the task manager since launch. The system is 99-98% idle during all this. Other parts of the computer seem unaffected. Any ideas where to start? Many thanks,Uriel.

I have a user on a NEW 745 Dell Optiplex. All updates, Symantec up to date etc.

They are unable to load certain programs: SAS, SPSS, Word and PPT are the ones I have noticed and so far it only occurs with her user name. Outlook and Excel run fine and a different part of SAS also loads properly. It's as if the problem only occurs with what I would think are memory intensive programs. The initial screen indicating the program is loading comes up and then just hour glasses until I have to end the task.

I've ran the diagnostics and no hardware related errors were reported. When I check the processes the CPU is under 20% use. No errors in eventvwr other than the hungapp that accompanies me forcing the programs shut down.

What are some other things I could check?

C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\AUTOEXEC.NT. The system file is not suitable for running MS-DOS and Microsoft Windows applications. Choose 'Close' to terminate the application.

These are programs that I have loaded and ran in the past. Such as "Road trips, Door to Door".

Is there something preventing these programs from running now?

First let me say that I greatly appreciate the time anyone puts in to helping me with this problem. I had a problem with a hijacker that put a html link file in my windows directory called "secure.html". And, as hijackers do, it kept setting my homepage to something like "c:\windows\secure.html". The link just advertised that I had spyware and that I could dl their program to get rid of it. Instead I spent a few hours with adaware and spybot and HijackThis and got rid of it. But, now there are a few webpages that I can't access anymore. The only definate webpage that I know is still up that I can NEVER gain access too is, and any link on, you know the first links listed at the top of the page when you search for something, bussiness links and so on. These take me to the "cannot find server" screen in IE. I have another computer in the house on the same modem that accesses google fine. BTW I'm running microsoft windows xp and IE 6x and I'm on cable but not using any sort of router or network hub, the modem has usb and ethernet plugs on it and I've got the usb going to one computer and the ethernet going to the other. I know this is frowned upon but it shouldn't stop me from viewing one or more pages. So, enough of my babbling and here is a HijackThis log for you pro's to look through. (btw i found and cleared what i saw as definate threats already with HijackThis.) I've also dumped my c... Read more

Answer:Certain webpages won't load

Look in the The C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS\ETC\HOSTS file (open it with notepad)

It may contain entries like:

These will have been placed there by a virus, and prevent you reaching the site(s).

The Hosts file is a system file, so unless you enable the viewing of system files, you will not find it. It is just "Hosts" with no extension.

Download Stinger.exe from McAfee and run it.

You have only posted a portion of the HiJack This log.
Using "Save log" produces the full log in notepad. Post a full copy of that back.

The other day my router packed in so i've changed it, ever since i cant seem to be able to access websites like ebay, facebook, engadget, cnet and windows live mail and more, it will just load for ages and then eventually i will get some links but the page wont be properly loaded, it will be all over the place or i will just get the unable to load page error. And on other sites like this one and on my own sites as well as others it works perfect.. I cant load the app store or itunes

I can even play online fine, but for some reason I'm unable to load those sites, I've tried direct from the computer the router is plugged into, over wi-fi on my laptop and ipod touch but nothing is working, I've also tried multiple browsers

It must be my router, but i cant think of any settings on it, I used this router before and it worked fine, i only changed it cause i got a new one for free which is the one that packed in

Anyone any ideas?

I am having the same problem and it seems with the same sites as you. I can access these sites from my daughters laptop but get the same response as you from my PC. I even had the internet provider come out and verify that I was sending and recieving info correctly. If you figure something out please post your solution on here...thanks and good luck

Hi. I'm running the lastest version of Windows Vista Home Premium and I'm using the latest version of Firefox.

I am currently having what seems to be a pretty obscure problem. Earlier today out of nowhere I started having problems loading certain webpages.

These pages will not load at all. For example, the main page of google does not work, but the firefox default homepage google quicksearch bar does. I am certain that it is not a server based problem, because I can access these websites no problem from a different machine. This problem does not seem to be linked to the browser, because both Internet Explorer and Opera are also unable to load the same pages. I tried disabling windows defender as well as the default windows firewall, but to no effect. Running firefox in safemode also had no effect, furthering my suspicions that the problem is not browser based, but some problem with a corrupt OS file.

After trying pretty much everything within my power I decided to just bite the bullet and try a system restore from three days back (I actually haven't been having this problem since before today) to see if it might fix the problem. No dice, and instead windows decided to just plain stop booting and I had to do a repair procedure with the windows vista CD to repair a file called "NETIO.SYS" with the file status: "0xc000000f", just to be able to boot to Vista again.

After the repair, windows was working again, and after a websearch for this NETIO.S... Read more

There no problems there , I have set the SourcePath to my CD rom drive D with my copy of windows xp disk sp2 , Run the system file checker , still hasn't corrected the problem , I have change the 2 registry keys for IE and OE from 1 to 0 and still nothing , I should mention for each changes I made I awalys rebooted , Problem is when I try to download IE again I get the error that I have a newer version , Is there anything else I can try ? Thanks

I am working on a Dell Inspiron 4120 running Vista Business. The internet seems to work fine. It will load almost every url except for Facebook and Myspace. All of the firewalls are disabled. It will sometimes load the login page and then not work. Sometimes it will seem to load all of the pages for awhile and then stop working again. It is connected through a wired connection. When I connect it wirelessly it doesn't seem to ever have any problems. Could there be something wrong with the wired connection that would make it only work sometimes or am I missing something else??? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Please help! I am at work where I (shh!) browse the internet. Sometime yesterday morning, stopped working for me. It acts like it's loading, takes forever, and then I get the "The page cannot be displayed" error message. I tried downloading Firefox and using that, but it won't load in there either. I've also noticed that won't load, and hotlinked images from Photobucket accounts don't display.

I've tried deleting cookies, offline files, and history multiple times. I've also cleared my cache.

I've followed the steps up to posting the logfile. Wondered if anything wrong with it as I've reset winsock, scanned and unistalled anything potentially responsible but still no joy. I have been having this problem on my home computer (Windows XP Pro) for a couple weeks now. I am able to connect to the internet via dial-up (PeoplePC), but IE will not load any pages. I get the standard message about not being able to find page (something like that?). I have searched these forums for advise and have done the following (not in this particular order):

*Set dns #'s per Microsoft's help pages
*Loaded and ran SpywareBlaster, SpywareGaurd, Kill2Me, HijackThis, CWShredder
*Have also been running AdAware for almost a month everytime I log on. Ran it with the setting and tweaks mentioned in previous threads.
*Ran Norton AV (no viruses found)
*Dumped all Temp, Temp Internet Files, Cookies & History
*Cleared add/remove program files of suspicious looking programs.
*Made sure my activex settings are either disabled or prompt

When I try to do a window update, of course the page will not load.
I get pop-ups, but they do not load either (almost amusing). I can see that most of them start with the url look2me (even after running kill2me).
I know I don't have the firewall up, but my isp tech told me on the phone to unclick it when she was helping me with my connection.

hello... a few days ago i had a major spyware problem. some of the nice people from this site helped me solve my problem, and i'm so grateful for that. but since then, i'm unable to get onto my homepage and some other websites (namely messageboards or other "interactive" sites) and i keep getting an error message that reads as follows:

The page cannot be displayed
There is a problem with the page you are trying to reach and it cannot be displayed.
HTTP 500 - Internal server error
Internet Explorer
the sites are working for other people, so that's not the issue. i did something called "tuneup utilities 2004" on the request of someone here after i had cleared my computer of spyware, and i think that might have adjusted the settings for internet explorer. but i don't know what they were originally, and restoring them to default doesn't seem to work.

do any of you have any idea as to what's causing this and how to fix it? like i said, most websites work, but some that worked before aren't working now.

thanks so much.

Answer:Webpages won't load

What firewall are you running?  Even though the computer is new, I'd go ahead and download Spybot Search & Destroy and maybe Ad-aware, install them and scan your system.  Never know what all's loaded on a new system.  I think I'd also download CCleaner.

Hi All

I've been trying to load webpages, but only get an error message. I think someone had used a torrent site to download as Ihave recently found and removed some torrent links. Anyway, when I switch the computer off, it does download the automatic windows updates. This seems to be working OK.

How can I repair this please. I can't access any sites to download software, so if I'm advised to do this, it will take a little longer as I will have to download at a friends, then bring back and run on mine.

Any help would be appreciated.

Hi, I'm new here, and I have posted in several different forums already for this problem and would just like to say thanks to anyone who replies or tries to help

Anyway, I have a problem with loading certain webpages- and These pages used to load fairly quickly without problems but now they've stopped working for some reason. I use a wireless connection and have a firewall up and when I turned it off the pages still do not load (but it has always been up, even when the pages were able to load). I've had a friend check the loading of the pages and he had no problems so I know that the sites are not down. When I try to load the pages, they are shown as "The page cannot be displayed". I have tried to change all my security levels to low and it still does not work.

I'm not exactly an IT person so I have no idea what this does, but I've seen many people post a Hijack This log up after their post, so to save time I'll post it now just in case it comes in useful:

I'm not sure if this is the right forum but I'll post here anyway.

All of my browsers have the same problem, so I'm thinking it is either a missing plugin of some sorts, or it has to do with my computer's connection to the internet.

As stated in the topic, my browser will only load a few different web pages (I get the "Problem loading page" :connection to the server was reset while the page was loading)

Some pages that give the error screen are: YouTube, Facebook, Twitter,,

But I can load,, Google

There are most likely more in both loadable and non-loadable, but I put some of the popular ones.

Maybe there is an update to Java or another program that I missed?

Hi all,

first post so thanks to any and all for your support.

I built a website using dreamweaver and a template (from well known company and they claim there is no issues with IE 8).

I am having trouble with IE 8 not loading some webpages in the site. There is no error per se, just a white page. I have IE 7 on another PC and it loads the same pages fine. I d/l Firefox 3 (latest version i think) and it also loads the same pages with no troubles from the same computer that has IE 8.
Looking at the code, I cannot see any difference between pages that load and those that do not.

Is anyone else having this problem? Any solutions?

Alright. I move my computer from school to home and this problem started happening. I had no issues whatever at school. The problem is webpages like,,, this site, etc. Give me server not found errors. Obviously it's not the server. I am running XP pro sp2 and Firefox. What's odd is I'll go to say and it won't load, then half an hour later it will load. Sometimes it won't load all the way though, only half of the stuff loads up.

I'm beginning to think something is messed up with my firewall but I've really got no clue. I'm pretty sure I tried turning off both my trendMicro firewall and Windows firewall and attempted to load pages but I still get the same error. The laptop I'm currently using (xp) and a second desktop (Vista) both work just fine.

Any ideas and as always, thanks in advance.

I have Win xp sp2 running on an old custom build (1400 Athlon w/ 512 Mb RAM on a Shuttle mobo). It's been incredibly stable, except for the occasions when I completely botch something up by attempting something stupid (although this time I didn't do anything, I swear).

Now, though, it won't load any except a few simple (think notepad or abiword) programs; when I try I always get an error message (I don't remember ad verbatim, I'll copy it and repost tomorrow, but it's something about Windows program manager not being able to load the program).

I thought a defrag and a scan of the boot disk might help, but they won't run, either. My kid brother has been using the computer (I've been at work, haven't used that machine in a couple of weeks), and insists he hasn't done anything, either, that it randomly started and he rebooted and it quit, but rebooting doesn't help -- I suspect a corrupt system file. Does anyone know what's wrong and how to fix it?

Oh, btw, data recovery isn't a concern. I have a couple fully functioning Linux distros installed. My goal is to fix the Windows install instead of having to reinstall everything.

I was trying to solve some graphics issues by the errors i was getting in the Services pane.

I started looking into a few more and when looking for a hidden file, i must of selected something that "hid" or deleted my user account, and at first glance, all my desktop icons

Now on boot up i visually have 1/2 the files i would have in my C drive (memory of them is still there), and just about every program fails to boot, says its currently running, or tells me its missing files.
It may just be programs on my C drive, programs located on my second drive boot and run fine.

Now i just did a system restore point to a few hours ago, wayy before i did any of this stuff. my files are back (mostly) my desktop is still bare, and my programs still wont load

any ideas?

Answer:[SOLVED] Some programs fail to load

I have found my own solution, i tried googling for random symptoms and came up with someone telling me to,

"Go to your C drive icon, right click to properties, check "hidden" then apply, and wait for it to do that. Then immediatly after, uncheck the hidden box and hit apply."

Seems maybe last time when i un-hid folder and hid them not all were selected, leaving me with half the files missing and half working.

Strange thing this morning. I have a Thinkpad T400 running XP Pro. Yesterday I booted Linux from a USB drive. I have done it a few times and never had a problem. Not sure if this problem is related. This morning the IE, Show Desktop and other icons that are usually just to the right of the lower left Start icon are missing. When I go into programs and try to start IE I get a blank screen that pops up for a second and then disappears. Other programs like Excel and Kindle won't load either. Fire Fox however will load after a couple of attempts. I thought it might be malware so I tried to run malwarebytes. I got runtime error 372.

I can run Firefox by right clicking the icon and pressing open. Double clicking does not do anything.

I downloaded HiJack this. Tried to run. Got error stating "Windows installation service cound not be accessed"

I was able to get Combo Fix to run. The log is attached.

Windows XP , webpages either load very slowly or not at all. I have AOL as my ISP. I have cleared the cache under tools in IE, cleared cache on System information, and Java cache. I have also performed a "quick restore". I have plenty of Ram.
I have Google chrome and IE8. I also have Computer checkup with AOL
that cleans the registry weekly. I do not do a lot of surfing, maybe 10
websites a day.
I do play several games on Facebook.
Can anyone give me any ideas? I am on a broadband connection.

Answer:Webpages Load Slowly

AOL does not offer Broadband connection, so they are not the ISP for your broadband connection, and you don't even need AOL. Try using IE outside of AOL (once logged on, minimize the AOL interface and start IE). Check your broadband connection speed by going to if it is below 1mbps then you are using dial-up speed. Talk to your broadband ISP.

I do not get any kind of error messages, the page just acts like it is loading but nothing happens. I am at a loss. I do not know if it is my connection or my laptop. I wondered if there were some settings on the laptop that I need to change, being that it is brand new. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. However, I am not very tech savvy, so details would be greatly appreciated.

Answer:Webpages don't load correctly.

We always blame ourselves but sometimes the service we pay for is not of the quality we would like.So before making changes to your new computer settings check for the service status in your area. The signal icon in the task bar only tells you the signal from your router.

Really not sure what this can be. Pretty much randomly i cannot load any webpages anymore, tried numerous different ones, but i am still connected to the internet, and most of the time able to talk to friends on Ventrilo , but sometimes it does cut out. Also i usually just do a quick ipconfig/release ,,, ipconfig/renew and it fixes it immediately but then it will go off again just randomly. Any help appreciated.

Answer:Randomly Cannot Load Webpages

So is only web pages, or general connectivity issues? If renewing IP helps, try setting up static one.

I have a Toshiba laptop with Windows 7, and when I first start it up, it works fine in every way. It's a little sluggish, but nothing bad. After 10-45 minutes, it stops loading webpages. I am still able to use programs like DropBox and Steam (that require an internet connection to work) with no problems, but I am unable to go to any website on any of my browsers. If I restart the computer, this fixes the problem for 10-45 minutes, and then I have to start all over again. I've tried resetting the DNS and the winsock thing, but that doesn't seem to have any effect. Help!!

OK so I've been trying to figure this out for over a week now. Some webpages load extreemly slow or just stay at a white page. Sometimes if I hit the "X" to stop loading the page a partially loaded page might come up.
It happens to all three of the browsers I have installed, Firefox (my main browser), Chrome and IE. Chrome seems to load a little more than the othe two but will time out alot on the pages.
Now this is only on a select few sites I happened to come across. First noticed it when I went to update CCleaner and pirisoft, com wouldn't load. Also have found a couple other sites doing it as well.
These pages all load on my phone and another computer connected to the same router. (Ethernet connection).
List of things I have tried that have resulted in nothing.
Checked Host file.
Tried switching to Open DNS and Google DNS
Checked Avira (free Version) and windows firewall for problems. Even tried disableing them.
Updated Windows (7 64 bit)
Tried releasing and renewing IP address
Uninstalled Firefox and Chrome and deleted all saved file to revert back to fresh, ran both with no addons.
Uninstalled and reinstalled all things Java and Flash.
Tried netsh winsock reset.
Updated ethernet driver.
Updated Nvidia graphics driver.
Did trace route, seems to connect there ok.

Hello everyone!
So I recently came down to my parents place for a holiday and ever since I started using the internet here many websites are not loading (firefox, ie and google chrome alike) they usually show an error /problem loading page message. All webpages open fine on the wireless router back at my place.

Also, all the webpages seem to load fine on other PC's in the house.

I have scanned using kaspersky twice, there were no threats.

And I tried using Hotspot Shield - and all the websites load only when hotspot shield is on.

Do help me!

I've run CCleaner, tried running a cmd prompt (sfc scannow), rebooted the router (Netgear R6300v1) and still no dice. Any ideas? Thanks for the help! Oh other devices on the network are fine and pages that do load do so quickly.

Hi Dylanz Of Dylanz,

What firewall are you using? Will the Adobe page load if you disable your firewall temporarily?

If that doesn't work, what are your settings if you open Firefox, go to Tools / Options and click on Content and on Security?

In Content, are all 4 options checked at the top of the tab?
In Security, is it checked to give you a warning if add-ons are added?

On my laptop when I try to load IE or Mozilla the program opens but won't load webpages, even though my wireless connection states connected and signal strength 'excellent'. Using the phone line I get the same thing.

Here are the messages I get:

IE: Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage.
Mozilla: Server no found - Firefox can't find the server at

I have already visited a forum that works on malware and they have told me that is not what is causing my problem and they recommended I come here for help.

I appreciate any help you can give me. I need my laptop for school which is starting back up again next week and worried I won't have it.

Thank you

In the last two days, I have lost the ability to access many websites I was previously able to.
I have two computers, one running Windows XP, the other running Ubuntu. Both have problems accessing the same sites.
I have a Linksys WRT54G wireless router. I have DSL through ATT connected via a Speedstream 5100 modem to the router.
Some of the sites I have now been unable to access.

I have tried both Google Chrome and Firefox. Neither seem to work.
I look forward to any suggestions.

Answer:Unable to load many webpages

Change your DNS Settings
However, I actually ran into this problem before, and the issue was a failing modem, however, remove the the linksys router, and attempt to access the sites directly through the modem.

Also power cycle the modem (turn on turn off)

If you have the ability to remove the PC from the house, and try on someone elses network, that will give you a huge advantage in isolating the problem, i recommend that you try that if power cycling a direct connection to the modem fails

Question: Webpages dont load

Any sites I try to access, IE7 says that the webpage cannot be displayed. However, msn messenger logs in and I am also able to update nod32, adaware, spybot etc.

I am running WinXP SP3 and I have run adaware and spybot and neither pick up any malware. I also did a virus scan and no virus' are detected.

It was working perfect yesterday. The PC which is having the internet problems is connected directly to the router and this PC I am using now is connected wirelessly, so there is nothing wrong with my router. I have tried to 'repair' the local area network but it still doesnt work. I ran IE without addons but sites still dont load. I also went to Internet Options -> Advanced and reset and restored advanced settings but it still doesnt work.

Anyone have any ideas?

Good Day Everyone, I am stuck on a problem. The problem is this, I can not bring any web pages up on the internet. I have tried IE 6.01 and FireFox. It is the same for the modem as the Network Card. I have tried 2 different Modems and 3 network cards. Here is what else I have tried.

Reinstalling Win 98 SE over the problem ver of 98
Reinstalled All network componets
Scan for Viruses
Checked for Proxy settings

It all started after some spyware/adware was removed. I can connect to the office network and look at the user folders and print to the network printer but I can not bring any web pages up. I get the error that the page can not be displayed. I am able to ping to the local network and not the internet. I have checked my TCP/IP setting and checked DNS and WINS but still no luck. I am unable to format that drive because there is some special CAD software on there and the branch who sent me the computer can not find the disks. I have tried everything that I can think of. And I do not have the option of formatting. I would love to do that. We do not want to upgrade the OS to Win ME, 2000, or XP. Any other ideas on what do to would be great.

Answer:Unable to load webpages...

It would be helpful if you would post a log for us so we can make sure all of the malware is gone.

Create a permanent folder on your hard drive like c:\program files\hjt.
Download Hijackthis and save it to that folder.

Double click on Hijackthis.exe then click on the "Scan" button, then click on "Save Log".

Copy and paste it back here and someone will be happy to review it.

Don't make any changes until instructed to do so.

Hi everyone, this is my first post, but knowing Windows it won't be my last!

I have recently setup a MS windows 2003 Small business network, with ADSL shared access to the Web. The network is running fine, email is collected without problem, directories share happily, things are all quiet on the LAN front. Unfortunatly not on the Web front.

I have a client who uses the web 50% of the day, he goes to a range of sites including ebay. Some days the sites load up without a hitch, sometimes the sites need two or three attempts with the refresh button before they load, sometimes (and this is the real problem) they fail to load after each new page, so when he is conducting business on ebay for example, it takes an age to perform simple tasks because he is constantly refreshing pages and going back.

Can anyone point me in the right direction, I am using a Belkin Wireless ADSL modem and BT Internet.

Your help in this matter would be greatly appreciated as it is causing him and me to tear whats left of our hair out!

I'm having a real pain with my web browsers. I'm using dial-up 31.2 kbps, and the connection is just fine (I can update anti-virus & anti-spyware programs) but I can't surf the web with IE or Firefox. If I use Firefox, when I enter the web address, the browser just stays blank and the connection indicator says it's done loading already. If I open up IE, it will search for the website, but then crash (the error message indicates it's code 0xc0000005, with all the other addresses at 0). My OS is XP Pro.

I think it might have to do with some anti-spyware programs I put in: either Lavasoft Ad-Aware, Webroot Spy Sweeper, or Secretmaker (I really think it's Secretmaker, and have since uninstalled that program, but I can't solve the problem). What's really odd is that I CAN BROWSE using the browser on RealPlayer 10.0, which is what I'm using to post. Any advice or assistance would be greatly appreciated!!!!

I have an HP Envy dv7 running windows8 with ie10.  I seem to be having an issue with webpages flashing on and off when trying to load.  Mostly seems to be happening to random pages and once in a while pages will not flash but won't load all the way.  IE seems to be doing all kinds of weird things but not all the time.
Can someone enlighten me?
Thanks for any help,

Answer:Webpages Flashing when trying to load.

IE10 Has compatibility issues with Older versions of Java, and Flash player. Some websites are not compatible with IE10. You can change the Browser mode by pressing F12 to bring up the developer window. At the bottom of the browser change browser mode to IE9. Press F12 again to close the window. You will have to do this for any page that doesn't load correctly.

I just built a PC for my boss with Windows 8x64 and he is running into a major issue. No matter what web browser he tries to use (internet explorer, firefox, chrome) he can never load webpages. They constantly time out after attempting to load for several minutes.

He definitely has access to the internet because he can still send and receive emails, transfer files on Dropbox, and run remote access software. I even pinged a couple websites in DOS and his latency is just fine.

I just recently built another computer with the exact same components but installed Windows 7 and there were no problems so this is definitely a Windows 8 issue.

What is causing his computer to not load webpages?

Answer:Web-browser will not load webpages

This is a fairly typical problem and usually has to do with winsock or the TCP/IP stack requiring a reset.

Copy/paste the following two commands, into an elevated command prompt one at a time, hit enter after each one then reboot your machine. Test to see if your browsers now function as they should.

netsh winsock reset catalog (reset winsock entries)

netsh int ip reset reset.log hit (reset TCP/IP stack)

What download speed do you get with with the wireless connection to the router? With an ethernet connection to the router? With a connection directly to the modem if you have separate modem and router?

Basically the ipconfig /all output means that you have an apparently good wireless connection to a router. What are you trying to determine from it?

Answer:Solved: Browsers will not load microsoft website but will load FB, Google etc etc

Either it's a problem server side for them, which would be an issue with your IP,
or a process/service altered some of your core system settings on your end which blocks the microsoft website for some reason....., you can try a different IP address just to make sure it's not server side for them, and then if that doesn't work I am not sure what to tell you other than reinstalling all browsers, and eventually refromatting if reinstalling browsers does not work.

IF it is an IP issue it could be something with your network, if a network admin blocked the microsoft website, or even theoretically your ISP if there was a strange issue with them, however that would be rare.

I run both IE 8 and Firefox on my Dell Dimension system. I'm having problems now with both browsers taking forever to load. This may be a virus or network problem. IE 8 just loaded now after 15 minutes (exactly - I timed it).

- Once it's loaded once, both browsers load in normal amounts of time.
- I haven't downloaded any new add-ons lately unless one browser or the other installed one in the background.
- The problem just started today after a reboot.
- I've also noticed that my network icon in the taskbar doesn't show up anymore when I first boot but by the time IE opens, it has showed up.
- Using ipconfig, I did determine that I am on the network and connected immediately after boot up (router also shows me connected immediately).
- I've tried running IE from the command line with iexplore.exe -extoff. It didn't make any difference. I don't know if this works with IE 8 though.
- When I click to open either web browser, the process shows up right away in Task Manager and remains.
- I have all the latest updates to both browsers that I know of.
- I've run a complete system scan with McAfee (fully updated as of today.)

Now I've run out of ideas on what to try. I appreciate any help!

ok this is gonna be a bit long but i want the details there. the issue pc is my old pc. it has windows 7 its an asus msn-la motherboard i cloned this drive and used it in my new pc. after a few months my new pc's drive died and i took the old drive from the issue pc(witch was not giving issues at this time) and stuck it into my new pc until my replacement drive came. when i got the replacement drive i cloned the drive again onto the replacement drive and then put the new drive in the new pc had no issues there. put the old drive back into the issue pc (this is when issues started) the pc booted up to the windows desktop loading screen fast but once it got there it sat there for like 5 min before loading into windows. once it loaded into windows it was un usable for around 10 min while it loaded background stuff. once it finally loads into windows if i try to open anything its still responding extremely slow. is there anything i could do to fix this or is this going to me a re install only situation? i did try to use a windows 7 disk to do a startup repair but it claimed i couldn't do it because i dident install from that disk.

Hi Everyone - Thanks to all the knowledgeable and kind people here for taking your time up to help people fix our computers. - Standing Ovation for ya'all - if i may....

I have a question about storing my programs on an external drive - and having windows 7 ult 64 - my current OS - on a small c drive where its about the only thing. Then I would clone that drive - and god forbid if I have a total windows crash - like I did twice in the last 3 weeks - I'd switch drives - reformat and reclone the sick drive and I'd hardly miss a beat.

Right now I have 2 partitions on my main HD with C mainly for windows and Y for data and programs - and it seems to be fine BUT would programs work just as well coming from an external drive - provided of course thats where theyre loaded during install?

And if so, would cloning the c drive allow me to change from one to another and work correctly? - Except for programs that were installed after they were cloned.

If anyone has any experience like this or an educated guess about it I'd be interested to hear from you. Thank you.

As a note - I'd been crash free for some years - but twice after putting my preference of not starting a new war on a facebook post - my computer froze like never before - it buzzed and nothing at all would move no matter what I did or how long I waited. Once i turned it off and back on - it wouldn't boot into windows but froze on the 4 color display during startup. It happened a few... Read more

Recently I changed my anti-virus to the recommended MSE and also installed MBAM and SAS, but to-night the SAS scan appeared to stall, there was no mention of it 'not responding'. As on previous occassions when scans and other programs stalled/hung the message has always been 'not responding'. hello, i have a external western hard drive, it runs perfect but the only thing that bugs me is, when i go to load up something (a program) that isnt stored on the ex hdd, it delays my cpu. e.g the program wont load untill my hdd has loaded, even though the program is nothing to do with it.

now somewhere i read its something to do with memory cache, is there a way to stop it from loading and delaying the rest of my system.

Answer:External Hdd Load Delay

how much system memory do you have? Sounds like a page file issue.

Just as the title suggests, the GPU in my U410 is not increasing its clocks under load. While playing games like Counter Strike: GO, the load is roughly 95% and the clocks stay at 270/405 for core/memory. Under these conditions, the temp never exceeds 60C as well. Why does this happen? I am 100% sure that the clocks can and will increase because I was able to play games fine before, but this happens intermittently. I recently updated the drivers, but this has happened since I first bought this laptop. Before I would just keep restarting the game until it is finally playable, but I cannot stand doing this anymore since it may take 10 restarts to play well, or it may take 2. Sometimes I get lucky, but I don't want to be "lucky." I want to get this fixed! Any help will be appreciated. Thanks in advance.(Monitored by GPU-Z)

Answer:Lenovo U410 GeForce 610m Not Increasing Clocks Under Load

Doesn't matter really, you better disable the nvidia card in the bios as the gt610m is slower than the Intel HD4000 graphics. And it consumes more power. You do have to tinker with the Intel graphics console to maximize performance profiles. By default it's battery efficient even on powercord. The Gt610m is just a marketing gimmick so they can trick customers into thinking they get better performance because of a dedicated GPU.

Hi, I'm trying to get my PC (windows XP) to connect to wireless network. I know the wireless connection is working, because I can connect with the other computers, and my cell phone. When I try to connect with mine though, and have it set to obtain IP automatically, it says that it has limited or no connectivity (when trying to repair, it says it cannot obtain IP address). When I set it to have a static IP, which I think I am entering everything correctly, it connects and says it has strong connection, but no web pages load. When I connect the computer via wired connection, everything works fine. With the wired connection, it is set to obtain IP automatically. Can anyone help??

Answer:Connected wirelessly-webpages won't load

Set the wireless connection for dynamic, disable encryption and MAC Address filtering on the router and try to connect that way, If successful you can probably re-enable encryption and reconnect. If unsuccessful please show ...

Start, Run, CMD, OK to open a command prompt:
(For Vista or 7 type CMD in the Search box after Start)

Type the following command:

[Note that there is no space between the slash and ALL.]

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter.
Paste the results in a message here.

If necessary use a text file and removable media to copy the results to a computer with internet access.

Hello friends,

My internet is currently not loading pages properly since I starting using a Telsta modem that came with the internet bundle (T-Box and Modem set). My D-Link modem stopped working due to old age I guess and doesn't turn on anymore. So I set-up the Telstra modem (with the included filter that I was using on my old modem, the D-Link and pages were loading fine).

For example when I try to load Facebook sometimes or it does not load the page, sometimes only the text-based version on Facebook and but sometimes on Facebook images and video's don't load. But on Youtube it works fine and loads videos perfectly like my old modem does. But some / most websites don't load.

I would greatly appreciate help and will post if the issue fixes itself when the new month starts as I think I am close to being capped (but not sure why that would allow Youtube videos to load in 720 / 1080p)

Answer:How can I fix my internet refusing to load webpages.

Ok, switched my Ethernet cable and removed the filter, somehow those must of been affecting certain web-pages, everything is working fine now.

I have been having this problem for about 3 days
Suddenly, one of my website doesn't load anymore. Some others don't either.
It says, "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage"
I tried accessing it on another computer, it works fine. So it's just me.

I have been reading through posts, but none of them really helped
I have tried deleting history, files, and stuffs like that, but it doesn't work
One of the posts here say that the HOSTS file may have problems, or is corrupted. But where can I find this to fix?
If it's not this, what other ways can I try? Thanks!

Answer:Most are fine, but certain webpages do not load anymore

First of what is your OS if Vista click start button type in c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hostsIf Xp open run and type in the above If you want to replace it with a new hosts file follow the instructions in this link this link this helps !

Earlier this week I started to notice that Firefox was taking progressively longer to return searches and load pages. It is now to the point where I can't get either Firefox or Chrome to even open the Google search page. My computer runs wirelessly to the stock gateway that I lease from Comcast. Another computer runs wired to the same gateway and has zero internet connectivity issues. My wireless computer shows full wireless connection with zero problems as far as receiving data from the gateway.
I can connect wirelessly to the gateway using my mobile phone on the exact same network that my wireless computer is connected to. I can browse effortlessly with my phone; zero page loading issues, such as it is, while sitting right in front of the computer with the browser issue. Additionally, I can connect with a wireless laptop sitting right in front of the computer with the issue.
I had switched to Comcast Xfinity internet service from ATT 2 or so months ago. I've had no noticable problems with wireless connections or browsing until this week. I called Comcast and ran through some resetting procedures for the gateway. They had no impact on my wireless computer's issue.
I generally keep my computer up to date and clean using CCleaner. I regularly purge unneeded software and files and keep it backed up. I've been using Microsoft Security Essentials as virus protection and keep the firewall on. I also ran Malwarebytes a couple of times. It found a bunch of files... Read more

I've used Firefox on my two PCs (XP) and two laptops (XP and Win7) for years. I've noticed more recently that all of them seem to have problems with loading up web pages compared to how older versions of FF were working.

I've tried using IE and Opera as well and they seem to be slow as well. All computers are running either AVG or Avast antivirus software.

If I try to open something, I can look down in the left side of the lower task bar and it will either say, "waiting for .........." or "transferring from....... " Regardless of which it is, I endure a slow painful page load up.

I've noticed this when traveling with my laptops so I know that its not just a problem with my home's internet and/or router. Some websites are worse than others because of bandwidth (I assume!)

Is it just that the web is being bombarded with so many advertisements, cookies and spyware that browsers are forced to "work harder" resulting in slower web page loading?

I've got little to no patience and I'm very sensitive to how my computers are running. In other words, I notice things like this and even my wife has noticed slower web page loading.

I forgot to mention that both laptops have recently been reformatted so they are fresh.

Answer:Web browsers slow to load up webpages

It is not ads. Cause you can hide them/disable them. This would be due to the connection and the number of people on it. Simple as that. Do you have WPA2 Security with a strong 16 character password that would take any brute force program at least a couple of days to crack? Or do you have some simple password that can be guessed by just about anyone who knows even a small detail about you?

What is your ISP speed as reported by SpeedTest.Net?

What extenstions do you have running?

What other programs do you have running?

How much RAM is in use? How many CPU Cycles?

Everything comes into effect. Sorry to inform you but no PC will stay as fast as it was the very first day you bought it. PC Hardware wears down. It starts to slow down. It is a fact of the industry. Even on a fresh install you can have more wear and tear on your hard drive causing read times to be longer.

Hi all, this is my first post here. Ive been working on a laptop for the last 2 days and for the life of me cannot get it to load any web pages in IE nor FF.

Its been a long road but this is where Im at right now. I have a complete fresh install of XP SP3 on a dell inspiron 9300. I was having this issue and with all the troubleshooting steps taken that did not work, I decided to re-install windows.

Turns out the internal NIC does not work (at all it seems), so I have a USB NIC. It installed correctly and detects the network. I can log into our Domain, ping seveal websites (yahoo, (my personal website), but IE8/FF will not load the web pages. The NIC has a valid IP address with correct DNS and DHCP IP addresses to their respective servers.

Dell Inspiron 9300
NO 3rd party firewall or antivirus installed
Windows firewall is OFF
FRESH install of XP SP3
Trendnet USB NIC - gets valid IP, DNS, DHCP addresses
can ping several sites successfully
ran winsock and TCP/IP stack fixes (netsh commands)
wireless works just fine!
it even downloaded microsoft updates via USB Ethernet
I can log into the domain and browse network computers
All other domain PCs can access internet with no issues.

Im stuck! Can anyone help? Thanks!

As stated in the topic title, my webpages load extremely low. I've tried 3 browsers: IE, Chrome and Firefox, but none of them seem to make any difference.

My laptop is a Dell XPS 15 with a Intel Centrino wireless-n 1030, and according to my laptop, fully updated.

My main pc works perfectly, so it has probably nothing to do with my internet connection. And downloading on my laptop works also perfectly with a speed of 2 megabytes per second, but yet pages load slow...

First I thought it was my Bitdefender Antivirus, but after removing it and installing Kaspersky (due to its high rating), the problem persists.

I hope someone can solve my problem, as I find it really annoying and time-consuming.

If additional information should be neccesary I will gladly post it.

Thanks in Advance,

PS: Sorry for my inadequate command of English

Answer:Webpages load extremely slow

The slowness is the same with either a wireless or ethernet connection?
