Preferred Solution: missing shortcut missing in taskbar

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: missing shortcut missing in taskbar

Open Note Pad. Copy and paste the following to the Note Pad. Save it as Show Desktop.scf (Note the extension scf). Next drag and drop it onto the Quick Launch bar and your problem should be solved.

I logged into my computer this morning and the screen was blue, although I could still see my house and move it around. I can also do Ctrl Alt Delete to access the Task Manager when I don't see the explorer.exe. I know its supposed to be there but its not, I tried to manually start it by going to file new task and running it but it only runs for maybe 10 seconds? enough to see the icons on the desktop and the task bar, then they disappear. I searched online for a few answers but no real help. Im using another PC because I cant access the internet with my laptop that is have the problems. I was able to run hijackthis and put it on a thumb drive so I could post it here.

Any help would greatly be appreciated, thanks

I have ran ad aware and avast and both found something but didn't fix it.
I also posted this on http://www.techsupportforum.com. Thanks.

My laptop battery ran out and it must have shut itself down. When I restarted the following symptoms appeared.

Taskbar:
icons left of the clock disappeared
the taskbar changed from the standard task bar (green start button, blue bar) to a plain gray bar with a gray start button
if I right click on start > properties > taskbar tab > customize - the icons do not match up with the descriptions, for example the yahoo messenger icon has the description "wireless network connection"

My Computer:
If I click Start then right click mycomputer >properties I would expect to see a window with tabs "general, comp name, hardware.... etc" instead nothing appears

My network places > then View my network connections I would expect to see the network connections I have defined. its blank

I can't use my wireless connection because I can't see it to connect to. Other than that all programs seem to be working fine. I get to the internet using a hard LAN connection.

I don't even know where to start. I have read many of the posts regarding taskbar problems but none seem to fit. Any help greatly appreciated
System Information:
I just tried to open the system information icon in the control panel to get the info to put here but nothing happens when I double click it.
I am running XP SP3 I am current on updates, AVG Free (tried uninstalling just in case)

Answer:Taskbar has changed, icons missing and windows missing

Hey all, my girlfriend is running Win 7 Home... she has always had the default Windows speaker "volume" icon down on her task bar by her clock. She uses it all the time to switch between her speakers and her headset, where she right clicks on the icon and selects "playback devices" and then changes between her soundcard/speakers and her usb headset.

Anyway, it disappeared last night.

Now open Taskbar, click on the "customize" link, get the window to select which icons appear... on the speaker "volume" icon under behaviors, it is set to "show icon and notifications"...

HOWEVER.

Then at the bottom click the link for "turn system icons on or off" and on that window, the icon is greyed out and set to OFF and it can not be changed to ON.

She's been bugging the heck out of me ever since to fix it.

We have no idea what changed it, or how it got changed.... we just know its been there and she's used it, for the past two years, and now its suddenly not there.

Any suggestions?

Answer:Taskbar Speaker Icon Missing and Greyed out on Customize Taskbar...

Hello Nyarlathotep,

You might see if step 9 in Option Two in the tutorial below may be able to enable the Volume icon again.

I have a computer where the DHCP service will not start due to a missing dependent service.  I did some digging and found that the NetBT.sys file was missing, as well as the related Registry keys and the NetBIOS over TCP/IP service in Device Manager.
I tried copying the NetBT.sys file over from a known good XP SP3 machine, but before I went any further, I wanted to make sure I wasn't missing anything.  Can someone offer some suggestions to fix this without having to reload XP?

Thanks,

Answer:NetBT.sys missing, registry entries missing, and NetBIOS over TCP/IP service missing from Device Manager

For what it is worth, I pulled the netbt.sys file from a known good machine and putting it into the %Windows%\system32\drivers folder, then imported the registry keys for NetBT from the same machine.  Rebooted the computer and the "NetBIOS over TCP
IP" driver showed up in Device manager under "Non Plug-and-Play Devices".  It showed that it was started, and verified that the DHCP client server was started as well.  Everything was in good working order at that point.  Here are the registry

Question: Missing shortcut

When I start my computer I get the following message'The drive or network connection that the short cut "My Web search e-mail plug.ink" refers to is unavailable. Make sure disc is properly inserted or the network resource is available.Any ideas on what is happening and how it can be corrected, please.

Answer:Missing shortcut

Hi bjantbear. I think it will take a bit of guess work to resolve this one. I think there is something in a start menu somewhere calling for "My Web search e-mail plug", but I don't recognize this title and I can't find any reference by searching the web. What I have found, however is a little nasty that can get onto a computer called "My Web Search", and I suspect that your computer has been, or is infected by this. Have a look here click here and see if it looks familiar.

It wasn't a big problem but I want to know. The shortcut of Widows Media Player on desktop was disappeared everytime I logged in again. I replace but it happened again. What's happend to this icon? (Other shorcuts are ok)

Answer:Missing Shortcut

If you go to Right Click/Start
Select Properties/Task Bar

Put a check into the Show Quick Launch Box and you should see it bottom left of your tasl Bar.

From Here you will be able to Left click and drag it onto your desktop.
Or leave it where it is in the Task Bar.

It should not dissappear from here.

Question: Missing Shortcut

I installed Pinnacle Studio 7 by mistake thinking it was a photo manipulation program, I have tried to uninstall it, leaving all the 'shared files' installed. When I boot up the PC I get an error message 'Reg Tool exe missing'. The Pinnacle website is not particularly helpful in solving the problem, which wasn't there before the installation. Can anybody tell me how to totally remove this program and it's registry entries?

Answer:Missing Shortcut

If there is (was) an un-install option on the program, did you use it or did you go through Add/remove programs? If it has its own un-install it is far better to use that for removal. The answer then is to re-install and then un-install using the correct procedure. Fiddly, I know, but the best way apart from, if you're on XP (or ME), try doing a system restore to a time before this was installed.

Question: missing shortcut

dear tech support guy,
i screwed up bigtime when deleted the shortcut, system restore
from the system tools folder in all programmes.
how do i get it back? i am using os xp home addition
please advise
pollux

Answer:missing shortcut

navigate to this folder:
my computer/C:/documents and settings/all users/start menu/programs/accessories/system tools.

Keep this window open.

With the system tools window open, navigate to this folder in a new window:
my computer/c:/windows/system32/restore.

Once you are in restore you will see a file named rstrui.exe. Drag this file into the system tools window which you already have open. Rename the file (right click over the file and select rename) to System Restore. This will put it back into the start menu.

I had an OEM version of Office XP installed on my computer when I purchased it. To my disappointment, the shortcut bar is not available in this version (it's not on the CD at all; not just a matter of not having it installed). I looked on the Microsoft site to see if it could be downloaded separately, but evidently it's not available there, either. I really like the shortcut bar and have gotten used to using it with previous versions of Office. Is there a way I can get it? My husband's machine has Office 97 and has a shortcut bar. Can I take a file/files from his machine and put it in mine? If so, which file(s)?

Answer:Shortcut icon missing

Have you used a registry cleaner or tweaker to remove the arrows?

A virus scan is not likely to catch more then a small number of bad guys you may have. Be sure to use 2 or more anti-malware scanners, too.

Try the attached reg file (explorer will need to be restarted for any effect).

Hello im new on this forum so i hope you understand what i have to say about my computer problem. My computer is a Celeron 466,with Wins 98SE,64MB Nvidia 420 graphics card and 256 memory.I had trouble with some of my software games when i d/loaded the latest drivers from the Nvidia site. When i d/loaded them i installed a new game by Novologic just to see what it was like then i uninstalled it again to make space.I put it on my second h/drive.When i uninstalled the game everything seemed alright but when i restarted my computer at a later date i got a message at the bottom with a flashing torch looking for the file NOVG.exe which i assume its the exe file from the game.So i reinstalled the game to reconnect the the problem. Then i had a message to say the file setup is in a different place do i want to move it there i said yes. Then i ended up with another message which i keep getting on my desktop each time i start the computer i have to click ok to clear it.It saysWINLNET.DLL redistribution packagecommand line option syntax errortype command/? for helpI dont understand what the message means can someone explain what it is and how i can get rid of it.It doesnt so far seem to be affecting any other software. But it seems to stem from that other problem to do with the execute file which i cant find any sign of ive uninstalled the game again now. I have looked on Regedit but theres nothing there now so any ideas would be much appreciated thanks.

Answer:Missing Shortcut on Desktop

I don't reconise the error message, but have you tried looking at the game's website for help as it MUST be something to do with it?You could try uninstalling your graphics card, restarting and the re-intalling it.

Problem: Yesterday Morning I went on a Santa Tracker site (NoRad) as a joke to show some kids I watch from time to time. But it said there was a problem with an add on (Flash I believe) and the internet went off. When I went back on sites like Yahoo and any other had the yellow error triangle in the corner. So I thought I would restart: Started saving my open word pads but one file would not save (It was a project for class). I had named it a D name but it said the D disk drive (Or something) was full. So I renamed it with a word beginning with a W (Same thing: The W disk drive is full) My other word pads saved so I tried sticking the writing from the stubborn one that wouldn't work onto that but when I saved it, it said the same thing (But the other writing worked fine!) I then tried saving it on Microsoft Word (No dice under any name I typed. Tried printing but it couldn't. Finally saved it under the first text line and it worked.)

Restarted: Word pad began saving fine only when I opened the one file, it was entirely blank. (That happened once or two before months earlier). So I remebered Microsoft Word had saved but when I went to bing it up by clicking on the shortcut, it said it couldn't find it! The Microsoft Word.lnk! It said it was renamed, moved, or deleted. But it worked last night. Went through searching old .doc files and bought one up that managed to bring up the Microsoft Word program. But I needed a way to get to the program easier. I just finished downloading the new update today and was playing a few games of Warcraft 3. But after I closed that I realized that a majority of the shortcuts on my desktop have reverted to basic icons. I thought it might be the new update so I used the sticky and was about to make the changes to my registry but I checked and the Verclsid.exe program that the windows help tells you to do here http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/918165? is missing. So I haven't done that yet because I didn't want to screw up my registry in case the d word value screws something up if the file isn't there. As I used my computer, a few of the icons reverted back to the correct image but some are still the same. I know it seems like a minor problem but I'm afraid it could be the tip of the ice burg to a larger problem. And it is still fairly aggravating. I would appreciate any help at all. Hello all:
I'm needing to create a shortcut, but the context menu that normally lists 'new shortcut' is missing. If it were just a shorcut to an exe or something I would just copy and past link, but I'm needing to create a shortcut for 'RunDll32 DwmApi #105'. But I can't seem to do that. I haven't made any changes to my system, so there should be no problems.

Any comments/help/suggestions would be most appreciated!

I have dual boot xp and win7. I have a folder containing some exe and another folder with shortcut pointing to the corresponding exe in the first one. In xp, the icons are shown normally in both folders. In win7, only a generic icon is used in both folders. Here is the screen extracts.

I tried the change icon in the properties, but there is no icon displayed in win7. I tried to remove the icon cache as mentioned in other threads here, but couldn't fix the problem. I tried this on both x64 and x32 system, still the same problem. I tried to use icon extractor software and it said no icon found from both exe and shortcut when running in win7.

Appreciate any info/suggestion to fix the problem.

Further to this thread click hereCan anyone with NAV 2005 tell me where the entry for NDETECT should be if there is one?I have finally worked out why my NAV 2005 wasn't auto updating. The way NAV runs the Auto Update is through Task Scheduler. When the Auto Update process runs it then resets itself to run again in 4 hours time. However if your PC is not switched on at the time TS is supposed to run then you miss the Schedule and it reschedules for another 4 hours WITHOUT running the task! This meant i kept missing the Scheduled Time.Further to this there is another program called NetDetect (NDETECT.exe) that is a part of NAV. When this is run it checks for an internet connection every 5 minutes. When it finds one it then starts the Auto Update check. This works because when it ran NDETECT manually NAV updated itself 30 seconds later.I have the feeling there should be a start up entry for NDETECT on my PC as i was at a friends yesterday who has NAV 2004. His AV was 3 weeks out of date. We installed AOL Broadband and i was about to say "Lets update NAV" when it popped up that it have done it itself. I guess NDETECT was running since the PC started. He's not to technically minded so i can't ask him to look for it.Can anyone with NAV 2005 tell me where the entry for NDETECT should be if there is one?

Answer:Do i have a startup shortcut missing?

Think i've fixed it by adding a multiple task to the one that exists so it also runs NDETECT on startup.Seems to have worked so far.

Have Win95, I deleted some programs I didn't need and now get after bootup a prompt with a flashlight about not finding a file. How do I get rid of this prompt.

Answer:Missing Shortcut Prompt

Could be a couple different things. first note the name of the file it is trying to launch.
Check the startup menu for a shortcut calling the application
Look through the win.ini file and see if you can find any reference to run or load for this file. If so just place rem in front of the line, save, and reboot. You can always undo the rem if it's not the correct line.

Recently each time I re-boot, I get the message that there's a problem with a short cut, moved or missing. It's SYSDOC32.EXE, which I believe is part of Norton Utilities.I uninstalled the trial version of this some weeks ago, and it's left me with Crashguard, which works fine, and I'm happy with it.The message appeared sometime after uninstalling.I also have CleanSweep and the Norton AV.When I click on Cancel, the message disappears, but can I stop it appearing, or what should I do about it?

Answer:Missing shortcut message

What is your win os? and something puzzeling when you say (I uninstalled the trial version of this some weeks ago, and it's left me with Crashguard)Any nortons programs with Crashguard included would be years old,and Crashguard was one of the most unreliable programs of them all. There was a stand alone version of Crashguard but symantec dropped the program very sharply.Your version of Norton AV if from the same package must also have a very old engine, are you still able to download the virus definitions?Your SYSDOC32.EXE may still be needed for Crashguard as it was included with the Norton Utilities,if that be the case. You could also delete it from the registry. To be honest i would not atempt that unless you know what your doing. What i cant grasp is this trial version unless you have reinstalled old software after a format,or installed on to other system. I am Totally puzzeled how you could uninstall part of a trial version and leave Crashguard and thought i knew the software very well. What is Sysdoc32.exe? Situation:You encounter a message or error which refers to Sysdoc32 or Sysdoc32.exe, but you are not sure which program this is.Solution:All versions of the Norton Utilities for Windows 9x/Me/NT/2000/XP come with a program called Norton System Doctor. The file name for Norton System Doctor is Sysdoc32.exe. If you encounter an error which refers to this file, include Norton System Doctor in your search parameters.click here

We ask that you first try to do ALL the TUTORIAL listed below. We will then ask you for a HJT log. It must not be inline but rather as a .log or .txt attachment. HJT must be placed in it's own folder and not run from a zipped file. Be sure to close all unnecessary programs, it makes it much easier to read the HJT log.

First, please follow ALL the steps in this Sticky thread READ ME FIRST BEFORE ASKING FOR SUPPORT: Basic Spyware, Trojan And Virus Removal.
If you already have any of the programs linked in the tutorial please double check your version to make sure you have the latest one and that you have any/all updates for the programs.

If you have any difficulty please post back letting us know what steps you have completed, what you found while doing the scans if anything and details about any problems you have encountered in completing the steps. The more details you can provide the better.

Hello,

This is probably real simple, but I need help with it
I have a family PC (gets used by all)
I have WindowsXP Pro (SP3)...Installed with windows is "Microsoft Paint"... which I use. I have dragged the Paint Icon from, Start/Programs/Accessories/Paint, to my desktop as a shortcut to Paint...But now, somehow, (all I get from my family is: "Nope, weren't me") this shortcut to MS Paint, is missing
When I go to, Start/Programs/Accessories, the Icon for paint is not there either (as I dragged it to the desktop)
The only way I can find to start up Paint, is to use right click on an image, select, "Open with:" and choose Paint

Can someone help me to get back my shortcut Icon to MS Paint, so I have it back on my desktop....Please!

Many thanks for any help

Swifty

Answer:[SOLVED] Paint...Missing shortcut?

You could uninstall/re-install it, but probably easier to just make a new shortcut.
Right click the Desktop, point to New, click Shortcut
type mspaint.exe in the location box
Click Next
Name it Paint
Click Finish.

To R&R, it's located here:
Control Panel | Add/Remove Programs
Add/Remove Windows Components
Highlight Accessories and Utilities
Click Details
Highlight Accessories

Answer:missing start menu shortcut.

Three separate "possible" workaround options for the "Missing Start Menu Button" problem:

First try running the scannow sfc tool in Windows XP. If you do not know how to do this...
(Option 1) Check out this site: How to use the scannow sfc tool in Windows XP

If that does not work, try:
(Option 2) Check for and install #289 "Start Menu - Enable" from kellys-korner-xp.com

If that does not work:
(Option 3) Also try #117 Restore Taskbar and Start Menu from kellys-korner-xp.com
(that is, if #289 does not work for you)

Also, you might want to look over this webpage article: Taskbar Is Missing When You Log On to Windows. This page also touches on the "Start menu does not appear" problem.

Good Luck!

>> Start >> Accessories>>Accessibility >> Accesibility Wizard, Magnifier, Narrator, On-Screen Keyboard, Utility Manager
>> Start >> Accessories>> System Tools >> Backup, DiskCleanup

and alot of other list too under the ALL program list.

I've try manually creating a 'calc.exe' in the right path for calculater.. But this is too manual.. as I've a list of programs that contain the missing shortcut. Is there anyway i can do it in a faster way?

Hi,
We run office 2000 on a network. When we load Word up, for 2 of our users (it could be more!), a box pops up browsing for a shortcut to open (with the little torch moving from side to side!). These files exist on our PCs but seem random and nothing to do with word (one is an excel file!).
We can either browse to the file manually or click cancel. Whichever route you take, word then simply starts as normal afterwards.
Its not a major problem but its just annoying having this happen every time we start word (and it would be interesting to know why it happens too).
We know this problem is user specific and not station specific.

Thanks
Nick

Answer:Word 2000 (missing shortcut)

Hi Nick,
There could be a link problem between the exe file as well as the shortcut.Iam not very sure about whats wrong with this but i can suggest u this option

Search of Winword.exe in the system.
once you find the file, create a shortcut to that file and replace that with the old one (which u open everytime).

Hope this will work.

All my shortcut icons on the desktop (all but about 6) have changed to the windows default icon - the one that is applied to a file windows doesn't know how to open. Similar story with the program icons. If I click on start and point to programs, they all have this windows default icon next to them. This happened after the pc had been left for a while and the monitor had gone into sleep mode. As I moved the mouse to wake it up, the desktop was blank for a few seconds so I right clicked and selected refresh. It then came up with these icons. I have rebooted but still no joy. The shortcuts and programs still work, they just have this default icon. I am using a dell inspiron 8400, xp sp2 with all updates. No new software recently added and use adaware and spybot regularly.
Any suggestions gratefully received.

Answer:Missing Power point Shortcut

If you use Microsoft PowerPoint on a regular basis, you should have an icon on the desktop that can lead you to it quickly. This icon is called a shortcut. There are various techniques used to create a shortcut. Probably the first thing you should find out is where your application is located. You can find out by doing a search on the computer. You can create a shortcut from the Programs menu.By default, the shortcuts for Microsoft Office 2003 applications are located in the C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office11 folder. The icon for Microsoft PowerPoint 2003 is called POWERPNT.To create a shortcut from Windows Explorer or My Computer, you can right-click the Microsoft PowerPoint icon, position your mouse on Send To and click Desktop (Create Shortcut). To create a shortcut from the Start menu, click Start -> (All) Programs. When the program appears, you can right-click it, position the mouse pointer on Send To and click Desktop (Create Shortcut).

Last week I have handed my old laptop to my tech support colleague, asking him to allow me to keep my old HDD. He gave me my new laptop and after some copying of files, returned me my old HDD in a case. All well until here.
On my old laptop, I had a shortcut on the desktop pointing to a folder on the C drive ( the only drive of my laptop) . After my colleague removed the HDD and it turned into an external HDD, all files from that shortcut are gone. I can find the shortcut, but it is empty, as well as the original folder (of which I created the shortcut). My mistake was, that I worked with the shortcut in the same way I would work with a regular folder: arranged subfolders, saved data etc. and assumed, this will get transfered to the original folder. Therfor I did not think I would need to do something else to secure the data before the change if my laptops. Do I have any chance of recovering the files once available under my shortcut? Thank you for your time, Yuppy

This is not a problem on my computer, fortunately, but it happened on my brother's Windows 98SE machine this afternoon.

He turned on his computer and called me over. A shortcut was missing from his desktop that has always been there. It was quite obvious that it was missing because there was a space dead centre of the screen.

A shortcut for "Call of Duty United Offensive Multiplayer" was supposed to be there. It had been there the last time he used the computer, but for some reason it was gone. All the other icons, including the other Call of Duty shortcuts, were there and in there normal places. I checked the Recycle Bin in case he had accidentally deleted it, but there was no shortcut to be found. It flat out disappeared off the computer.

I put a new shortcut for the program there for him and now his desktop looks normal. I was afraid something else might disappear from the desktop, so I made a list of all his icons and I backed up some folders on the desktop, because if those disappear, then they probably can't be recovered.

What would cause a desktop shortcut to disappear off the face of the computer, with no traces left behind?

I ran an AVG scan and nothing was detected. Here is a HiJack This log. Anything bad that could explain it?

This isn't really a major issue but a minor annoyance.

Last night my boyfriend popped his removable USB storage drive in. I noticed that documents made in Notepad were opening in Visual Basic, which is not where I want them to open. So I went to properties and told it to open these types of docs in Notepad. Fine, it didn't work, but that's not the weirdest or most annoying part.
All of my desktop icons, the little arrow that shows it's a short-cut, they're all gone. In their place are those little icons for a file (particularly an image file) that windows doesn't know which program to use to open it. This happened right after I changed the properties of the one file that was not even on my computer.
I checked for viruses, checked the shortcut properties, even tried deleting the original shortcut and creating a new one; to no avail.
Does anyone know how to fix this or had this happen to them and know what caused it? Please help. Any help would be great. Thank you.

Answer:Shortcut arrows missing; strange picture instead

First, try this : Default File Type Associations - Restore

If not worked, this : System Restore to a previous day .

Third option : SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker

And if everything failed, the last way is Repair Install ; but it needs the Windows 7 installation DVD. Do you have it ? If no, Do you have the recovery partition at least ?

The programs that I ran before it happened were Glary Utilities and AusLogics Disk Defrag.

It is similar on some of the icons on 'Start Menu > All Programs' as well.

Please see the attached screen shot.

Answer:[SOLVED] Shortcut Icon Image Missing

i -

The "missing shortcut" actually appears to be a lost file association for Adobe Reader.

I would suggest that you perform a system restore, choose a restore point prior to running Glary util - and I would advise not to run it again -
START | rstrui

If that fails - re-install Adobe Reader 9 - http://get.adobe.com/reader/

Help! I've got weird problems in XP Pro. A while ago, I created some folder shortcuts on my desktop. The one in question goes to:

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Documents\Music Stuff\Samples Folder

When I double click on the shortcut, the folder "Sample Folder" directly opens my files and everything is there, fine and dandy.

But for some reason, all of a sudden when I try to access it from root, by going folder to folder, I get to:

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\

and then it dead-ends. No \Documents\etc. The same thing happens when I go into the application to try and get to that folder from within the app. I get to \All Users and then I see all the other folders but \Documents. Files that have previously been saved with samples from the rest of the path (\Documents\Music Stuff\Samples Folder\whatever folder) all load properly but I can't get to that folder from either in or out of an app without using the shortcut. Has my Documents folder just turned invisible all of a sudden or something? I have the Folder options on the computer set up to show all hidden folders so that shouldn't be it. It's driving me nuts!

Is it a Hidden Folder?

I've been using the Shortcut Arrow Remover Program for a long time now and it's been working perfectly

But after I had opened my computer and took off my fan guard from my PSU I must have jogged something inside my computer because now all the shortcut arrows show up as missing images.

It could have also been to do with CCleaner when I did a clean up. I don't normally use the registry function to fix "Unused file extensions" and seeing how the icon remover program uses the .ico I think it stopped it from working.

Here is a screenshot of my desktop, as you can see where the "blank.ico" should be used it's now missing or not be able to be read.

I have been using PowerPoint since Office XP. It didn?t have and still doesn?t have an Edit entry on the context menu for .pps or ppsx files. This is very annoying when we want to edit one of those files as I often do. I made the necessary change in the registry, and the Edit shortcut showed up on the context menu for .pps files for XP and 2003, and then also for the ppsx files for and 2007. I exported and saved the modified registry settings to be able to just import them at any time I had to reinstall Office. It was simple, for each new Office version I only had to modify the path for PowerPoint and it worked.

Now, I have tried to do the same for 2010. It does have an Edit key under Shell, but the Edit shortcut doesn?t appear on the context menu. I don?t understand why it doesn?t work now. Am I making any mistake or is there another reason? Can someone, please, enlighten me on finding a way to do it?

Can anyone tell me how to restore the two shortcuts for IE11? The one with add-ons enabled and the other one with add-ons disabled? And also what are the "comments" included for these 2 shortcuts or those which are written in the "comment" under the Shortcut tab of IE11 shortuts. I've accidentally deleted mine. Thanks.

Answer:How to restore missing Internet Explorer 11 shortcut from Start Menu?

Hi and welcome to SevenForums,
Use No Add-ons mode/
Click the Start button and paste this in the search box,
It should appear as a top suggestion,
When it does Right click it and click on Send to Desktop Create shortcut,

"C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe" -extoff

To open a regular internet explorer page simply drop the (-extoff) from the end,
Cheers.

Hi, a while ago, I was annoyed with having the little shortcut arrows on desktop icons. I decided to try to find a way to have them removed, so there would be no arrows for shortcuts, and I looked on the internet for how to do so.1. One site had me download a registry edit thing, and change my registry.2. Another site let me download a program that would supposedly remove the shortcut arrows. And, for a while, one of these methods worked, and I didn't have any arrows on my icons! But then, for some reason, it backfired, and now I have that strange 'unknown program' icon in place of an arrow. Here, http://i168.photobucket.com/albums/u...s/Untitled.jpg(It's a safe image, don't worry)The problem is, I really don't know which of the two things above made this happen, but I can't get it back. What can I do? I'd be fine with or without the arrows, but just not how it is now! This happened over a year ago, I do not remember the names of the programs, what I did with the registry, and I cannot use system restore that far. Please help with any solution. I have Windows 7.

Question: Taskbar missing

I have successfully completed a repair install on my computer. Once it rebooted, the taskbar and start menu were missing. I pressed alt-esc and nothing happened. I made a new user and transferred the data. The taskbar showed up on that profile. Now, I turn off the computer for a while. When I turn it on and access the new account, the taskbar and start menu are missing again. What do I do?

Question: Missing Taskbar?

Ok, so I have a machine that is running xp, and the taskbar disappeared.

A few days ago, I installed AVG free edition so I could get rid of a virus (spybot or malwarebytes would not run) and it got rid of some stuff and started to work like normal again. Then one day I started it up and the taskbar wasn't there. I looked up online how to get it back, but every other problem like this has been accompanied by missing icons, not the case here. I can only access programs via task manager and no means of connecting to the internet will work. I found a program called "kill32.exe" in sys32 folder which I googled and deleted.

Any help on this situation would be great!

Question: missing taskbar

i am missing the taskbar on my desktop. i am running windows xp. it was working fine and one day most of my taskbar turned white and the start button is not there. what can i do?

Answer:missing taskbar

The first thing I would try is to hold my curser over the bottom of my screen where the task bar should be located and see if you can get it to turn into a double headed arrow then drag your mouse up, all should be back. As far as the task bar turning white you could check in control panel under display and see if you can set your task bar back to default. Hope this helps
