Preferred Solution: internet connection turn off ever 10 minutes for 30 seconds

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi all,
I've been having some problems with my internet connection on my ASUS G750JM laptop since I bought it last year, but they have recently developed into something that I can't just put up with.
The first problems started to occur after I connected my laptop to our new router, an ASUS RT N66U N900 Dual Band Cable Router. After a few minutes of connection, it would stop working and sometimes it would fail to connect to this network at all unless i restarted my laptop. However, when connected to our modem, a Plusnet model, these problems would not occur and connection would be slow but constant. This was a problem i could deal with, since i could still access the internet via the (slower) Plusnet router. Other devices and computers could connect to both routers with no problems.

Now, i've moved out of my parents house and use a different router, the Air Router 802.11n . This was fine for a few months, but the past 3 months or so more problems have started. Every few minutes, the connection drops and then comes back up a few seconds (from 2-15 seconds) later. This is incredibly frustrating when using skype or when gaming online. Strangely, I've found that these problems are not limited to WiFi, and also occur with a wired connection. All other devises except my laptop remain connected when this happens

I have an Asus x53e running Windows 7 Home Premium x64. I recently replaced the HDD with an SDD and decided to start over with a fresh Windows installation. After installing Windows, I got all of the drivers for my laptop model off of the Asus website and installed them. Ever since upgrading to the SSD and reinstalling the OS, my WiFi connection has been dropping for a short time, about 10-15 seconds, every 10 minutes or so. It drops, waits 10-15 seconds, and then reconnects. This is super frustrating and has become very disruptive at work. I also have a desktop computer and an iPad, neither of which have this problem, so it seems to be a problem with the Windows laptop, rather than with my WiFi router. It is worth noting that I never had this problem with the laptop before upgrading to the SSD and reinstalling Windows. If anyone has any suggestions as to what might be causing this and how to fix it, I would really appreciate it.

A few weeks ago my T400 (Windows 7) started intermittently dropping wireless connection ever few minutes for 10-20 seconds. No other computer in the house has this problem on the network. I've restarted the router, turned the PC wireless radio on and off. Any other ideas? How do i know if i have the latest wireless drivers?

Answer:T400 intermittently dropping wireless connection ever few minutes for 10-20 seconds

Install the latest drivers using System Update, and see if that fixes the problem. If not, try installing the Intel drivers (assuming you have the 5100 or 5300) rather than the ones found on the T400 driver matrix. I used to have this issue with very early Lenovo supplied wifi drivers, but both the Intel and Lenovo drivers work consistently now.

I'll start with the beginning of the problem to see if there is a way to fix this. At Christmas I got a graphics card upgrade and power supply upgrade to play games better on my computer. Roughly, from what I can tell, ever since then my computer and my computer only has been having this horrible internet problem. The internet constantly either slows down or totally goes off for seconds or minutes when loading websites, watching youtube, and playing online games. I got this upgrade to play games like Battlefield 3 and various higher requirement games, most of which were multiplayer. Now I cannot play any of them because when I go into an american server with 60-90 ping, I get 200-400 ping and teleport all around like crazy. Makes playing the game impossible. When watching youtube, the video will stop buffering and my whole internet for my computer will shut down and about 1-5 minutes later, it will come back up and load the video. I might just even be on the web and I try to load a page and bam, Firefox could not load page. I use firefox, windows 7 home premium 64 bit. Model is HP pavilion p6654y. It is not the internet causing the problem from what I can tell because we have not touched the router or modem or anything. Sadly, I do my school online and if I cannot get this fixed by tuesday when school starts next week I am totally dead. I have tried updating drivers, updating java and flash player, using different web browsers,(which wouldn't work anyway because my ... Read more

Hello Everyone.

First off I would like to say that I have been reading through this website to find answers to my problem, and it is refreshing to see people helping others. Thank you all for the effort and support you guys give.

ok now to the problem ;)
My laptop is a Enpower Model Number ENP 65604 running XP Pro

The trouble I am having started about 2 weeks ago. Before that (and maybe the reason) when I would shut down I would get the "program did not shut down" box to which the program in questions was grclass (i think). I looked it up on google and did not find anything. I know a little about computers so i ran a virus scan with AVG. To make sure i got everything I did the big full scan. it found something (not grclass) and fixed it.
The name of the file it found was F:\SLATKO\torta.exe (Virus identified Win 32/Cryptor)

Since around that time (the 2 weeks ago i mentioned above), my internet has been acting strange. I have trouble loading websites (usually have to click links twice) as well as the bottom line saying "waiting for xx website" and I notice on my Zone Alarm activity monitor that the internet will not respond from time to time for like 5 seconds, then come back on. It does not matter if I am connected wireless or wired (or both, like I tried in the office). It happens both at home and in the office. I ha... Read more

Hey everyone,

I've had this problem for awhile now and I think it's time I seek some advice on how to fix it. What is happening is that whenever I'm on the Internet using my browser, SSH client, etc. the Internet program freezes for about 5 or 6 seconds, and then resumes again. This happens every few minutes.

For example, I'm editing an HTML file in my SSH shell using vi and the screen freezes for about 5 seconds, then it continues with whatever I typed during that span. This also happens in IE - I'll be browsing and then when I go to a new page, sometimes it will site there, taking 5-6 seconds, pausing before it loads the page when it should load immediately.

Has anyone else had this issue or know how to cure it? It can be maddening since I design websites all day and it slows me down. Could this be a NIC card problem? Thanks in advance!

Facing a different issue, I am not sure whether it is related to Virus, Network, or with winxp.

The problem is: Onof suddenly, internet browsing stops for few seconds or minutes and that to few systems in the LAN and the other systems working fine at that time. We are getting internet over MPLS link, at this same time (I mean when we found this issue on a particular system), WI found the below observations.

Observerations:

1. Unable to browse internet sites.

2. Unable to connect to the intranet sites or systems through MPLS, till the connections re-establish.

3. Able to ping google and also intranet sites or systems.
Trys:
1. Executed winsockxp fix utility

2. Checked for Virus, we are using trend microscan.

Waiting for your suggestions.

My laptop has (i assume) become infected with something that is causing it to lose its broadband connection almost immediately after connecting. What happens is this: I plug in my ethernet cable from the cable modem box, and then i am able to access the internet for about 15 seconds, before page i attempt to access comes up "page cannot be displayed." clicking the 'repair' button from my network settings does nothing, but manually releasing and renewing my ip through an ipconfig prompt buys me another 15 seconds of browsing, before the same thing happens. The same modem, when plugged into my desktop computer, has no problems at all maintaining a connection. I run Ad-Aware regularly, and keep my laptop reasonably clean of bugs and spyware... what's causing this?? any ideas/suggestions would be much appreciated.

When I turn my computer on and log in, I have no internet connection for about 30 seconds. This sounds like it's not a big deal, but I have a bunch of programs that run on startup and require internet access, and they aren't happy about the lack of connection. If I run ipconfig /all during that time, I only get this (copy/pasted exactly as it's shown):

Code:
C:\Users\Steven>ipconfig /all

Windows IP Configuration

Host Name . . . . . . . . . . . . : STEVEN-DESKTOP
Primary Dns Suffix . . . . . . . :
Node Type . . . . . . . . . . . . : Hybrid
IP Routing Enabled. . . . . . . . : No
WINS Proxy Enabled. . . . . . . . : No
DNS Suffix Search List. . . . . . : lan

No interfaces show up at all.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated, thank you in advance!

I just installed a new internet access. It is a radio receiver mounted on my tower antenna. It is like a DSL connection that uses radion waves to the ISP tower. Speeds and connection are like DSL.
Problem: I lose my connection every 5-10 minutes. I have to 'REPAIR' my LAN connection to get it working again. ISP monitoring says that they see me coming to their tower to get a new IP address or MAC or whatever everytime I have to REPAIR. They say their side looks great (of course). It doesn't matter if I come straight to my desktop or if I go through my Linksys WRT54GS router. Same disconnect in 5 min. Is there something I need to set or tweak on my LAN settings or any other suggestions?

I have a HP Pavillion p6000 series, Running windows 7pro on it. Using Chrome for browser which is also updated.

It is connected to a switch hub that connects to the wall connection. Lately this computer has been timing out when ever the user is online. There are other computers which are directly connected to the hub which are completely fine.

I have tried scanning this computer, updating built in NIC card, turning off windows firewall, changing the cable and even replacing the hub itself but nothing has helped.

I haven't been able to narrow down the problem. I would really appreciate all the inputs that i can get. My last option would be to purchase a new computer but i would like to try every thing first.

Sincerely,

New laptop, connected to my home network which is very stable and has no history of connection issues. After about 10 seconds the laptop drops the connection. Sometimes it'll come back for a while sometimes not, haven't observed any pattern in this yet

All I've done since starting the computer for the first time is installed all the junk that comes with it (Nero stuff mostly) and installed all windows updates (there were over 60 of them) and AVG Free edition. Before doing all that the connection was still not right but it did hold for a lot longer than 10 seconds. It held for over an hour downloading programs like Itunes, AVG and Firefox

Going to control panel > network sharing centre when the connection is down I see the yellow exclamation mark between my computer and my network. Troubleshooting this resets the network adapter, gives me the error 'The default gateway is not available' and says that it is fixed. The connection then works again for about 10 seconds and drops once more.

From setting up the network I think the default gateway is the router IP address?

The internet on the other computers on the network (one desktop one laptop) is fine and uninterrupted

I can't get the connection to hold for long enough to download SysInfo but this is the laptop:

This is a rather strange problem that I am having.

The computer takes literally about 45~55 seconds for the internet to work.

I wonder why this is happening and if this is normal.

I did a format to see if I could fix this and failed to fix it.

My computer isn't the fastest but not the slowest. I did the upgrade in 2008. It has 2.6 ghz dual core AMD with 2 gb memory and runs on M2A-VM All-in-one mobo.

I did a format so I assume this is not virus/spyware related (Same problem before and after the format).

I currently have the minimal necessary programs installed (chipset, HP printer stuffs, Nero DVD burner stuff, and very few programs) as I just formated.

I tested before and after installation of the virus program (Avast! before format and something else after format) both the times the problem didn't go away.

I have 3 computers hooked up on the router. The router settings didn't change for a long time.

If I remember correctly, I didn't have this problem 3 weeks ago or so. All other computers have no such problem.

After the 45~55 second wait time at the startup, everything works normally and perfectly (so again, I doubt it's virus or anything like that).

There are times (crunch times) when I need to get the connection working in matter of seconds so I would like to fix this problem if I can.

What is causing this problem?

Thanks in advance.

Answer:[SOLVED] No internet connection for 45 seconds after startup

Not sure whats causing this, but you may get quicker response time if you set the IP to a static IP address

Hello, I have been having some internet issues for quite some time now. My problem is my internet connection will drop for a second, then come right back, but its enough to keep disconnecting me while trying to play games online. and this seems to have happened right after i switched my ISP. It seems to being doing this on all my computers(2 wired and 2 wireless) some days it will work fine all day, and others, it drops ever 5 or so minutes and lately most days it is happening. I have contacted my ISP and they keep telling me that the internet is fine, and not doping off on there end. They finally sent some won down tho, and he gave us a new modem, and changed out one of the cables to a bigger one. And this problem still continues to keep happening, i have no idea what to do! can some won please help!

Hello,

my wife has a strange problem with her HP ProBook 4330s laptop (running Windows 7 Professional). We recently got a new Linksys E3000 wifi router which started the problems.

The laptop can see the wireless networks (there are two wireless networks since it's a 2.4GHz/5GHz dual band router) and even connect to any of the two networks. It also gets an IP address from the DHCP server and the Internet connection starts working for a very short period (5-10 seconds). Then the connection is lost and though it occasionally returns, the computer is unable to access Internet most of the time. Apparently, it doesn't even get to the gateway. If I ping to the router's IP address there's no response, except for during the first few seconds after establishing the connection:

Every time I boot my computer, the internet is working fine and shows no signs of anything wrong, but after loading so much (several minutes of a youtube video, or just idle data coming in from other sites I'm on) it just comes to a halt and nothing can get through. At first, I thought that this was my school's internet being bad since I had just moved back into the dorms today. The problem with that is that I seem to be the only one having a problem like this. After so much time, depending on how much bandwidth I'm using (I think, this is just based on observation), it just drops the internet completely and won't start again until I reboot.

I've checked over and over and I'm sure that I've got everything the school requires me to run, and I get no notification that I'm doing anything wrong, so I figure it isn't denial of service from the school, and have also checked in with tech support and they didn't say my account was flagged, but they don't know what's wrong either. What I've found so far is that I can't seem to get an IP address after the service stops, but I don't know how I could connect that to anything. If someone could help, I'll post any logs you need, I just don't know what the appropriate programs for that would be.

I am assuming that you have Windows 7 or Vista.

There are (at least) three possible causes of this behavior: corrupted security application, driver, or stack.

What, if any, non-Windows firewall or security suite is on the machine?

Make sure you have the latest network driver (from your PC manufacturer's web site if they supply it). If you already have the latest driver use Device Manager to uninstall it; restart and let Windows discovery the adapter and reinstall the driver.

(From a JohnWill post)

TCP/IP stack repair options for use with Vista or 7.

Start - All Programs - Accessories and right click on Command Prompt, select "Run as Administrator" to open a command prompt.

Reset WINSOCK entries to installation defaults: netsh winsock reset catalog

Reset IPv4 TCP/IP stack to installation defaults. netsh int ipv4 reset reset.log

Reset IPv6 TCP/IP stack to installation defaults. netsh int ipv6 reset reset.log

Reboot the machine.

I have avg 8.5, and also run zonealarm when I'm online, though I still get disconnected whether its on or off.

I also saw a post online about a winsock issue, and tried enetring "netsh winsock reset" the last time it disconnected, and did not have further problems after I did that yesterday, untill I turned the machine back on today, and now problems are back, and the reset doesn't work.

I have someone who brought me their Hp Pavilion 733, It keeps dropping the internet connection after about three to five minutes. can't reconnect unless I re-boot

He had a bunch of virus so he whipped the drive clean and did a recovery install of Win XP-Home from the D partition. I did a scan of the hard drive with Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and found a Trojan in his documents & settings \Owner\ Install.exe. I removed the Trojan and re-scanned again and it found nothing. However the problem is still there, I re-installed the Realtek network driver but did not help.

I Installed a new nic card still the same problem, I installed Firefox thinking a browser problem but same thing after about five minutes all I get is page can't be displayed.

all other computers on my network work just fine and the patch cable is new.
I am wondering is it possable the viruses he had could have damaged the recovery files on his d:drive? it also just seems to move very slow the computer in general.

It has 512 Meg of ram and is a 2 Ghz AMD 2400 processer

I have not tried to reinstall the OS as of yet I wanted to get some other feedback first.

Thanks

Ken

Despite "Network & Internet Settings > Dial up" shows the status "connected" , the yellow icon with exclamation point
(! ) on task bar shows the opposite , there is neither access to internet and nor navigation.
I have to disconnect and try again and again, sometimes If I simply leave it , within 4 o 5 minutes the yellow icon status changes to access to internet.
It started to happen a few days ago and as I haven?t made any changes on system I ask you what is going and how to fix it?
Thank you

I'm assuming I have some sort of a virus that causes my computer to lose internet connection after 5-10 minutes of turning on my PC. What's the best way to confirm and correct it?

Thanks in advance.

PS. I know that the connection is fine because I'm connected to a laptop, which never loses connection.

Answer:Internet connection stops after 5-10 minutes

Hello and Welcome.

I would not assume anything. Loss of internet connection is not typically something modern malware does. They can't make money if the affected machine loses it's internet connection.

It could be that you have a hardware issue with the one machine.

If you think the machine is infected...

We want all our members to perform the steps outlined in the link I'll give you below, before posting for assistance. There's a sticky at the top of this forum, and a

Please follow our pre-posting process outlined here:

I keep losing internet connection every few minutes. Im using Windows Vista and my connection is thru a router which connects my two computers. Other computer has XP.

Since both lose internet connection, I've come to think fault is on my router as when I plug in my LAN Cable directly from the Modem to either computer, Connection is restored.

I tried reseting the router and also disabling its firewall but that didnt help.
One thing that works is by disabling and enabling the router on Control Panel - Network Connection. But the Connection I get only lasts a few minutes.

Any ideas to help me resolve this problem?.

First off I'd like to thank anyone who takes the time to review my case. (I'm using windows 7 64x btw)

My problem started 2 days ago after my windows installed some critical updates. My internet will drop every 1-2 minutes no matter if I'm directly connected to a line or using wireless. Basically, it loses connection (signal strength always remains strong, however) and within 2-3 seconds the internet will be fine. This time is long enough to log me out of any services I'm using. Other computers in the house who are on the network do not have this problem. I also do not have any signs of malware on my computer. I've scanned with various programs and there are no problems to be found.

I have managed to cure the problem twice by doing system restores. I do not know if the problem lies with the windows critical updates but after my computer installed them last night I had the same problem again. I did a system restore to before those updates happened and it fixed the problem. I have since stopped my computer from auto updating. I know I've spent some time talking about the windows update but I'm not certain they are the point of problem. Another culprit I'm somewhat worried about came from a program called Wlan Optimizer. It was designed for Vista but the FAQ said it could possibly work for windows 7 as well. It was basically designed to prevent wlan autoconfig from seeking new connections without entirely disabling it. This is to ensure ... Read more

There are lots of programs that can interfere with Windows updates or be incompatible with them. My top suspect, especially if networking is part of the issue, is a non-Windows firewall or security suite or other security application. What one(s), if any, do you have?

I have a new lan setup which includes and new Linksys Gigibit router, WRT310N and Gigibit adapter cards-Linksys EG1032. I finally have eveything work but I look my internet connection on my hard wired machines after about 10 minutes if I am not constantly accessing the internet. I have a laptop on wireless and its internet connection is ok. The lan works all the time. All of these machines run XP sp2. I have the power saving feature turned off on the adapter cards-I have two machines setup like this and they both lose their internet connections. I had the WRT310N router setup on 10/100 adapters for about a day and I did not lose the internet connection during that time-so I think it relates to the adapter cards. Following are the settings for the adapter:

802.1q/1p VLAN tagging disable
Flow Control enable
Jumbo Frame disable
Link Speed/Duplex Mode Auto negotiation
Network Address nothing
Offload Checksum Tx/Rx checksum
Offload TCP_LargeSend enable

Any one know what might be wrong?

When I reboot the computer, I can get to the internet for ~ 5 minutes and then I lose it again.

Hello,

i am using a linksys wireless g- broadband router model no. WRT54G2 V1. My problem is the internet connection of both the computer hardwired to the router (has windows vista) and the laptop using the wireless connection (with windows xp) only work for a few minutes. After a while, both get disconnected. I will then restart my laptop, internet will work for a few minutes again, and the cycle goes on and on. I already had this problem before but I solved it (I think) when I deleted the malwares using the malwarebytes’ anti- malware. But I cant do that anymore because when I used that program again, it takes me 6 hours to do a quick scan and I cant wait any longer so I just stopped scanning. I downloaded spybot search & destroy and scanned it and deleted the infected files already. But the internet connection still fails me. What should I do ? help! Here’s the IP Configuration of my internet.

Hello there,

I wonder if any of you can help me with a strange internet problem which may be related to a virus or to some sort of system issue. A few weeks ago, I started getting all kinds of pop-ups, which eventually became unbearable. I managed to track part of the problem to a Vundo virus which I (seemingly) successfully removed today (after using Spybot, Ad-Aware and BitDefender). However, there is still one major problem. For some reason, once I reboot my computer, I can stay online for only about 5-10 minutes (not sure exactly when the count begins). Then I have to reboot again, and so on. The strange part is that I no longer have any of those pop-ups, and the computer is working well in every other sense. But obviously, it's not very practical to turn off your computer every 10 minutes in order to return to the internet. By the way, this is affecting both the Explorer and Firefox browsers. The problem actually began when an IT person tried correcting that pop-up situation.

Any idea what this problem might be? And any suggestion for how to solve it? I would be most appreciative of any advice. And please forgive me for posting this in another part of the forum -- I am just not sure what the cause is.

Thank you in advance,

Sania05

Answer:Internet Connection Crashes Every 10 Minutes

This may give you some insight to the problem ;
In Windows XP, the default setting is for the computer to reboot automatically when a fatal error or crash occurs. An alternative is to turn off the automatic reboot feature so you can actually see the error code/STOP Message when it happens - this is also known as the Blue Screen Of Death (BSOD).

To change the recovery settings and Disable Automatic Rebooting, go to Start > Run and type: sysdm.cpl
Click Ok or just press WINKEY + Pause/Break keys to bring up System Properties.

* Go to the Advanced tab and under "Startup and Recovery", click on the "Settings" button and go to "System failure".
* Make sure "Write an event to the system log" is checked and that "Automatically restart" is UNchecked.
* Click "OK" and reboot for the changes to take effect.

Doing this won't cure your problem but instead of crashing and restarting you will get a blue diagnostic screen with an error code and other information that will allow you to better trace your problem.

Good Luck !

Symptoms:
- After few minutes (1, 5 sometimes 30) of well functioning internet, sites stop loading.
- Wireless indicator icon in the tray shows as it's STILL CONNECTED and everything's fine.
- Can't even load 192.168.1.1 in the browser.

Workaround:
- Reset adapter solves for a few minutes.
- Connect to a different network and go back to the original one solves for a few minutes.

Details:
- Other computers are connected to the same router and don't experience this problem.
- Haven't checked this computer with other routers.
- Network adapter drivers are updated to last.

System:
- HP dv6 3310ej (specifications)
- Windows 7 x64
- Broadcom 4313 802.11b/g/n
- AVG 2012 antivirus
- 8GB RAM (added my own 4GB)

Answer:Internet Connection Cuts Off In Every Few Minutes!

This is actually a method to exploit a security vulnerability in the Microsoft Virtual Machine that is stored in the java cache as a java-applet. The vulnerability arises as the ByteCode verifier in the Microsoft VM does not correctly check for the presence of certain malformed code when a java-applet is loaded. Attackers can exploit the vulnerability by creating malicious Java applets and inserting them into web pages that could be hosted on a web site or sent to users as an attachment. I don't really know how to explain you my problem, but I'll try.

I have brought a broadband connection from a local ISP called YouBroadband. (I am from India, if you are wondering.) For the first month of my plan, I was having internet connection without any issues. But since 2nd month, I am experiencing a very strange problem. When I turn on my PC and connect to internet by entering my password, I do so without any problem. But after a few mnutes of connectivity, I loose my connection. Even stranger is the fact my Windows 7 Ultimate edition does not recognise this. It still shows connected sign in the notification area. But I am not able browse any more using any browser. to solve the problem, I start network troubleshooting, which in a few seconds shows, resetting 'Local Area Connection 2' and then I am able to log in again. At times this solution also doesn't work. All i can do at that time is shut down my PC, wait a few minutes and restart again. To my extreme dismay, this keeps happening over and over again. I connect, get disconnected, reconnect and again disconnect. This is terribly disturbing and annoying. I have searched on Google with no success. I tried changing DNS server settings and put Google open DNS address as my preferred DNS server but that didn't solve the problem too.( I received this tip from a friend of mine.) Here's what I get when I type ipconfig/all in Command prompt-

I am a newbie

I just got bellsouth dsl and the westell modem. I am running Windows XP-Home Edition. I connected the modem, ran the setup and everything seemed to be okay, but every 20-30 minutes the connection is lost to the internet. Then I reboot my computer and everything is okay for a little while and then it happens again. I called bellsouth last nite, we went through steps and couldn't determine anything. The last thing i did was use the usb instead of the ethernet cable and i thought that may solve the problem, but it disconnected again. I have an HP computer and a Wesell modem.

Anyone out there I need help or I will have to send it back. It took long to convince my wife that we needed.

Hi, I keep losing my internet connection after about 5 minutes of being online. The only way for me to reconnect is by rebooting
my system. When this happens I can't even connect to my router (in which all the lights light green). I tried a new cable but the problem persists. Can it be the network card?
I can't think of anything else.

Answer:internet connection failing after a few minutes

That's strange that you can't connect to the router. Have you tried resetting the router? You will have to change everything back to the way you currently have it setup, but it might fix your problem.
I was going to suggest checking the status on the router to see if it is still getting an IP address from your ISP.

Right, so a few years ago I used this forum for another issue and I was really glad that people could offer such helpful support; hence I returned with (unfortunately) another issue.
I've already searched online and on these forums but there isn't something that makes sense to me , to be honest..

So here's the problem: a few months ago I moved into this new apartment, in a house with 8 other people. There's a main router downstairs which is aslo connected to a separate wireless transmitter somewhere on the 2nd floor.
My desktop PC (Windows 7)is connected via cable to the router and my Playstation 3 + HTC smartphone are connected to the wireless network.

At seemingly random intervals, the internet connection drops out. The tab in the lower right corner shows the connection icon with a yellow exclamation mark (you know what I mean). 'Troubleshoot problems' doesn't fix anything, it just says that your broadband router is experiencing issues. The intervals range from 15 minutes, to 30 minutes, to only once every few days. This of course depends on whether I am sitting behind the PC to experience the actual downtime.

So as I mentioned, the Troubleshoot problems interface doesn't seem to help and neither does resetting the router by unplugging it for a while.

Furthermore, the connection on my PS3 / phone suffers the same problem. Although I can't check the same 'exclamation mark' symbol on my phone or ps3, the cha... Read more

Answer:Internet connection stops working at random moments, for about 30 seconds.

If I am reading this correctly, you are living in a place where 9 people including yourself all connect to this one wireless router?

There are many possibilities as to why the dropped signal/connection could be happening.

Wi-Fi Radio Interference
Radio signals from various consumer electronic products can interfere with Wi-Fi wireless network signals. For example, cordless phones, Bluetooth devices, garage door openers and microwave ovens can each take down a Wi-Fi network connection when powered on. You can move your network equipment or (on home networks) change some Wi-Fi radio settings to avoid this problem.

Insufficient Wi-Fi Network Range and Power
Even without interference from other equipment, Wi-Fi connections can drop occasionally on devices located near the edge of the network's wireless signal range. Wi-Fi links generally become more unstable with distance. Relocating your computer or other gear is a simple but not always practical solution. Otherwise, consider antenna upgrades and other techniques to improve wireless signal transmission and reception.

Overloading / Overheating the Wireless Access Point
Owners of some wireless routers (and other types of wireless access points) have reported dropped connections during times of heavy network utilization. This can occur during, for example, online gaming or while copying large files. Routers can in theory become overloaded with too much data and fail temporarily. If a router's temperature... I have a Windows 2000 Pro system that has a quirky thing going on with it. I have had to use Clam AV (AVG won't run on this) to scan for viruses, and it did find a lot of worms though I'm not completely confidant it was able to remove everything.

The computer can access the Internet with no problems if you boot into Safe Mode With Networking, but under a normal boot, it will lose connectivity to the Internet very shortly after logging it. I tested this using "ping google.com -t" to do an endless ping and the connection would go from replies with no problem to "Host not resolved" (I think that's what it says). This seems to be related to something with DNS, I think. Because I can connect the PC to another laptop via a crossover cable, assign static IP's to each, and they will ping each other. But once the connection is cut off, it won't ping the router or anything on the Internet.

I downloaded Hijack This via safe mode, restarted, and ran two scans. The first scan was done while the Internet connection was still working and google's pings were coming back okay.

The second scan was done about a minute later, very shortly after internet connectivity was acting foul. I've attached both log files to this post, so hopefully someone might be able to tell me what to try to get this working right.

Thanks!

Hope you guys can help me.

I think I have a malware/virus problem, but having scanned the whole computer with AVG, Windows Malicious Software tool, Ad Aware, and Spybot, I cant find anything.

What happens is that the internet explorer (IE7) connection settings keep reverting to a proxy: 127.0.0.1 Port 5656. I delete these and re-set to autodetect, only to find them re-set back to proxy after a few minutes.

I have also noticed some strange processes in task manager, with 3 digit numbers.exe (such as 915.exe, 831.exe, and so on) which I kill, only to find they come back again (with another number). These files only exist n a locals/temp folder, and if I delete them they come back. I cant find them elsewhere on the computer.

My HJT log is pasted below, I have also tried removing the two R1 entries which reset the internet proxy, but these too reappear after a few minutes.

I dont wanna have to wipe the disk and re-install if I dont have to, as I have a lot of programs installed.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Hi james Let's start by the beginning, which would be to update your network adapter drivers. Is your computer using a wired (Ethernet) connection, or a wireless (WiFi) connection? Also, follow the instructions below.DxDiag LogFollow the instructions below to create a dxdiag log and post it in your next reply.Press on the Win Key + R keys to bring up the Run menu;Enter dxdiag in the box and press on Enter; If a message comes up asking you if you want to check if your drivers are digitally signed or not, click on Yes;Once the dxdiag report window open, wait for it to load completely. Randomly, my internet connection started slowing down. Down to about .32 mb/s in downloading while it normally was around 13.68 mb/s. Scanned for viruses on AVG, tweaked with PC Tune Up by AVG for networking. We upgraded our router to Netgear Wireless Router N300, thinking our router was just giving out. We were still having the same problems. Both of the computers were still slow. I wired my desktop with a cable instead of wireless and it still did the same thing. I know I'm getting the right internet speed cause it randomly started doing this. The internet works perfectly for about 10 minutes then it goes right back down to .32 mb/s. I tried everything to fix my problem. I even tried OpenDNS and that helped for two days. I have no idea what to do to fix this ****. I'm honestly not good with networking to really know much.

I also soft and hard reset my router, modem too. That was my first reaction to the situation.

I got some bad spyware last week and finally got it all back together after a lot of spyware repair applications, including HijackThis, cyber protection, spybot, etc.

The only remaining thing is that the internet connectivity drops after 6 to 8 minutes. One person suggested that I uninstall my network card and then reboot. However, my network connections are as follows:
Client for Microsoft Networks
VMware Bridge Protocol
File and Printer Sharing Networks
QoS Packet Scheduled
Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)
Each has a check mark. Should I uninstall and reboot as directed by someone? If so which one?

Thanks for your help

Really weird problem that's I've never encountered. My internet connection works fine as long as I'm using it, but after about 10 minutes of not web browsing, streaming, or doing something that taxes my bandwith, I always lose my internet connection and have to restart my computer to get in back. Anyone have a clue what might be going on? I didn't used to have this problem, but now all of the sudden I do.

Answer:Internet Connection drops after about 10 minutes of inactivity

Do you have DSL?
Does your DSL use PPPoE?

If yes to both, check your router's settings and see if it's set to "Keep Alive" or "Connect on Demand"
You want Keep Alive.

Hello there, I've been using Hp Envy x-360 for almost a year now. In the past few months I noticed the internet connection slowing down after a small time in usage. I've been sorf of ignoring it, but I'm fed up with it now. Details: After turning on the laptop and let's say watching 10-15 mins of youtube vidoes, the streaming suddenly stops and refreshing the page doesn't help. However a restart to the computer solves the problem. Other devices that are connected to the internet via wireless don't have this issue, so it not a problem with the modem. I've tried updating several network drivers (maybe I am using the wrong ones?), still no solution. I've tried turning off battery saving modes. (by the way the problem also persist when connected to power also) I have virtually nothing installed in the computer, as it is only used for internet usage. I have antivirus and malware detection programs so, viruses and malware wouldn't be the problem. So.... Please solve this. It is very frustrating to have to restart the computer 3 times in order to be able to watch a 30 min video. The hp support site identified the exact product as "HP ENVY x360 - 15-w100nt (ENERGY STAR)

Hi,

I've been battling this for a few days now. I have a PC running Windows 98 SE, with all critical updates. The problem is that right after I boot I can connect to the internet, but after 10 minutes or so I loose the connection and get the infamous "The page cannot be displayed." message.

Here's what I've tried so far:

It is on a local LAN with 3 other PCs that have no problem connecting. Even brought it to another local LAN and the problem still occurred.

I can ping www.yahoo.com

I can release and renew my IP address (via winipcfg)

I have applied winsock fixes, both Winsockfix and MS article 241344

This occurs on a PCI ethernet card, a PCI wireless card and a wireless USB adapter (one enabled at a time).

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,

Larry

Hi

I'm hoping some of you have seen this before.

I have 3 windows xp computers connected to a 10/100 switch, which is connected to a linksys BEFS11 router, which is connected to the cable modem.

Our IP is dynamic from the cable company (roadrunner), and the linksys is set to obtain it automatically. The computers are set to obtain IP's automatically from the router, which they do fine.

If I run ipconfig /all from either computer, it shows the ip address for the computer, the router's lan ip shows as the default gateway, and it has 3 DNS addresses from roadrunner 25.xx.xxx.xx, etc.

It started knocking my internet connection down about a month ago. It started out about every week, and then every day, and now every 10-20 minutes.

The only way I can get the internet connection back up again is if I unplug the cable modem and the router...wait a few seconds, and plug them back in...then if a wait a couple minutes, I"ll have internet again. But of course, 20 minutes or less, and it'll drop again.

Someone suggested I try no-ip.com and setup an account and get their dynamic update client. I did this, and it has shown no effect.

Any ideas, please?

Answer:router bad? losing internet connection every 10-20 minutes

Plug one of your machines directly into the cable modem, if the problem still occurs it's the cable modem, if it doesn't, it's the router. Pretty simple to troubleshoot.

Hi everyone,
I really need some help with this one.

I have a very well updated PC running XP SP2 well patched with IE7.
I have run Trend Micro and spybot and there is nothing wrong on the PC.

After about 10-15 minutes of the PC being on, internet connection is lost, BUT:

I can still telnet to my router so I know I still have an IP
BUT I can't access my router's http admin page (I normally can)
I also can't access any website at all on the web.

I have tried the following:

- Dynamic and Static IP setting
- Uninstalled all VPN and network related software (Cisco VPN, deterministic ...)
- Turned on and off windows firewall and rebooted each time
- Ran all kinds of malware detection and virus scans
- Disabled power management on network card
- Removed the 10 max TCP/IP connection feature of XP
- I've tried different PCs on the same network and they're fine
- Tried ipconfig release and renew
- Tried repair connection
- Tried netsh reset
- Tired FireFox and other browers
- Logging off and back in doesn't help, must restart to fix

Answer:After exactly 10 minutes of the PC being on, wireless internet connection is lost. Please Help!

make sure it autoconfigures the IP... network card could be taking a dump.. doubtful tho... if all else fails reformat and install new wifi drivers.

So since last night, I have been having some issues, staying connected to the internet
I can get on either browser (whether it be IE, FF, Chrome) and it will work just fine, but after 10-15 minutes, I can no longer access any sites. I haven't downloaded anything recent either so I can't figure out what is causing it
I am currently connected wirelessly, and it has happened on two different access points. Home and work.
Anyways, could use any and all help. I'm getting tired of restarting!

Answer:Losing internet connection after 10 minutes to browsers. Please help!

As a first measure I would restore from a restore point before last night
and just to keep it safe, run Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware: Malwarebytes

At home you could try to switch the channel (check your router manual) but that doesn't help you at work.

I would go to your Power Options -> Advanced settings Wireless Adapter settings set Power savings mode of whatever plan you're using to Maximum performance

Got this odd problem that has been going on for the past few weeks. Internet connection slow's down to a crawl, then finally dies after about 30-60 minutes of usage. Forcing me to pull the power to the cable modem, and router. Wait a few minutes, plug them in, and it's okay for a short time. Kinda thought it was my netgear wireless router. I swap the router out with an older SMC router, still same issue. Yesterday, I go into Comcast, get a different cable modem. Got that up and running all excited. But after about 30 minutes, the problem comes back. I got two computers connected to the router issue happens with both. So I pull the nic cable going from the router to my FreeBSD box, thinking maybe a bad nic, bad cable, something funky going on there. No luck with that. Throw the cat 5 cable connected to my onboard nic, to another nic I had in a pci slot. Still nothing. Ran a virus scan, thinking maybe a virus eating up my bandwidth. Didn't find anything. I ran ad-ware a few weeks back, and that looked okay. Just curious if anyone has any other suggestions. Nothing has changed in my setup. Really don't want to have Comcast come out and test the line. Plus I'm moving in a week anyway.

Any ideas, suggestions, anything I'm missing?

Answer:Cable Internet-Connection dies after about 30 minutes

Sounds like the same shit my ISP was pulling on me when I still had dial-up. Basically it was the server's IP number that for some stupid reason kept jumping around changing IP numbers (don't ask me why, to this day I still don't know why they did something like that). The only "fix" was to ask my ISP what one of their confirmed IP numbers was, and then set everything to connect to that IP number only (DHCP off and all that). But soon after I got ADSL so the problem automagically went away...

About your problem: have you tried to flush your DNS entries? Assuming you're using Winbloze:

Go to Start ► All Programs ► Acessories ► Command Prompt. From there type:

Code:
ipconfig /flushdns
Or just download and execute the file named "winxp_dnscache.zip" from SpeedGuide.net. You can also use TCP Optimizer to optimize your Internet connection. This is all I can think of. Perhaps someone more knowledgeable on this matter will come along to provide their insights...

Dear Tech Support Guy Crew,

I live in a shared flat with 5 flatmates. We share one router which connects to internet via ADSL. We use different systems (Windows 7 & Vista, MacOS X 10.6.4) on different computers (Acer, HP, Vaio, MacBook). Until last week our internet connection worked perfectly fine (if you could call "perfectly fine" having to restart router every couple of days). Well - since a week ago our internet connection keeps dropping off every couple of minutes. To get the internet back we have to either reboot router or prompt it to reconnect to the internet. After re-establishing connection, the download/upload speed is relatively high and then gradually drops down to unbearable 4 Kb/s in a couple of minutes, often dropping off completely. Oh - and it happens regardless of how we connect between computers and the router (cable/wireless). It happens more often during the day then during the night. It happens regardless of number, makes and OSes of computers connected. It just happens.

I haven't had any troubles connecting to the router itself, neither using cable nor wirelessly.

So far we've tried:
- rebooting router
- swapping all cables for new ones
- moving router around the flat
- updating all systems and uploading brand new firmware to the router

I've called up tech guys from Virgin Media UK (our ISP) and they've checked that the internet connection in our area works "perfectly fine". They suggested removing exte... Read more

Answer:Internet connection drops off every couple of minutes!

Well, did you reset to factory defaults after installing the firmware? Other than that, I can't think of anything else you can do. If it still does it, I suspect the router is dying.

You might try directing a fan on it to see if it's a heat issue. I'm guessing you need a new modem/router.

Hey guys!

So over the course of a month, I've had this problem with my internet connection. At certain times of the day, it would just cut off. Normally, from the moment I would turn on my computer to the moment the internet cuts off, it would be about a straight 4 hours that the internet is on. The thing is, this isn't a router problem since everyone else in the home with windows 7/8 is not experiencing this.

I've dug into this to find out that my Wireless Connection Lease would expire at certain times of the day, cutting of my internet. It shows the time it would cut off when I go to "Connect to a Wireless Network", right click my Wifi Name, click on Status and click on Details. Right now as I post this, this is what it's showing:

It would also say for my IPv6 Connectivity "No Internet Access" and for my IPv4 Connectivity "Internet" whenever my internet cuts off.

It would normally be 4 hours, but now it's going to 30 minutes. Instead of 1 hour like it's showing there, it cuts off at 30 minutes. When it cuts off, it says "No Network Access" and gives me a yellow triangle with an "!" next to the Internet Symbol on my taskbar. And it's weird, I've tried going to Adapter Settings and disabling the Wifi Card and enabling it but it always gets stuck on "Enabling" which makes me have to restart my computer in order to keep getting internet.

I really don't know what to do now. I also think that it could also... Read more

Answer:Internet Connection drops every 30 exact minutes

Is your connection only a wireless one or ethernet? If its wireless, i would check to make sure the wireless adapter settings in the control panel are ok. On the other side of things; you could try doing a ipconfig /release and then ipconfig /renew at a elevated command prompt and see if that might resolve the issue you are having. Also, can you go into event viewer and copy and post and logs that have any possible related errors; then we can go from there.

I am at my wits end with this nonsense, i'm using Windows 10 and have a shitty realtek 8821AE Wireless that no matter what I do, drops my internet and is turning me into a homicidal maniac.

I cannot have this continue, it is ruining projects, college work and everything else I do on the internet.

I've tried unchecking the power management box that "turns it off"
i've tried updating drivers
I've tired reinstalling
i've tried a dozen things and nothing works

This has got to stop or it's going to be destroyed with a sledgehammer.

I have a Dell Latitude d810 laptop that has XP Professional and an Intel PRO/Wireless 2200BG driver. It has been working fine for nearly 3 years. Recently I changed it from a domain to a workgroup and now the internet connection drops after about 5 - 10 minutes.

When I say "drops", I am referring to the browser can no longer display the webpage. The internet connection still shows to be "Excellent". I even tried pinging www.google.com and it can still ping the website but the browser just stops working. I have tried Firefox and IE.

I updated the DNS to use the default primary DNS suffix. The only way to get the browser to re-establish a connection is by rebooting the laptop.

I have 2 other laptops that work without any issues (one with Vista and one with XP). The router still shows the connection to the laptop as active. Below are my results from the ping test and ipconfig. Any ideas?

I have Vista Ultimate been using it for about the last year never had any serious issues with anything including my internet connection.

Now tonight suddenly my internet goes down about every 30 minutes out of no where doesn't matter what I'm doing or even if the computer is just sitting idle. I have to unplug the modem and replug it in to get it working again. I'm connecting directly from Motorola Surf Board 5100 modem to the PC with Ethernet connection. no other pcs or game consoles in the house on this connection. Can anyone shed any light on what's going on or what I need to do to start figuring out what the problem is.

It's definitely not my isp all the lights that are suppose to be lit on the modem are staying on like they should.

Thanks for any help

So I recently had the ThinkSmart malware on my laptop. After searching for help online I booted up in safe mode with networking and installed and ran Malwarebytes.

After doing this, ThinkSmart appears to be gone from my computer and I can boot up normally. However, now it seems that if I connect to the internet while booted up normally, after a couple minutes I'll get a bsod and the computer will forcefully restart. The only way I can get online is through safe mode.

Does anyone know what to do about this?

vista is x86, OEM
computer is slightly over a year old.

I have been looking into why my internet connection seems to be dropped after 10 minutes (whether I use the internet or not) right after it is booted up and can't seem to figure it out. I can reboot my computer and have the internet again for another 10 minutes etc. It is similar to the ZoneAlarm issue that I've seen mentioned on the website, however I do not have ZoneAlarm on my computer.

It is not a router or ISP provider issue I have other computer connected to the same network and they are fine. Also this laptop USED to be able to work fine for hours on the internet. I believe I deleted something I shouldn't have or downloaded software that conflicts.

Here is my HijackThis log. Any help would be appreciated.

Hey guys,

I'm having a serious connectivity issue with my wired Internet connection. It keeps dropping every couple minutes. I get a red X over the network icon in the tray and it says "not connected - no connections available". When I do a ping test I get "general failure" about three times in a row, good ping and then general failure again. I have tried many fixes. These include:

uninstalled - re-installed and updated the NIC driver
TCP/IP reset
Safemode
Firewall/security suite - removed
Cable and router are OK - tested on laptop
Wireless adapter - works fine

My info:

1. Wired connection issue

2. My ISP is Flow/Columbus Communications (I'm in Trinidad and Tobago)

3. It is a cable broadband connection

4. My router is an Arris TG862

5. I am running Avira Free Antivirus and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware Home

Hello All,

We have a Dell in the office that suddenly will not stay connected to the internet, either wired or wirelessly. It connects for about 2 minutes, and the I get "page cannot be displayed" message. Wirelessly it shows as connected to wifi router, but again the access disappears after a couple of minutes. I have run multi-anti virus scans, Malware Bytes, AVG, Microsoft etc. I see nothing.

The PC is connected to an office server, and there is no issues accessing it.

I have tried to reset the Winsock. I have tried turning off the Windows Firewall. I Installed a newer version of AVG (old one couldn't be removed - removal requires internet access!). No sure what to try next.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Answer:Lose internet connection both wired and wireless, within a few minutes

I would say try to reset the actual internet connection. Unplug it and wait about a minute; then plug it back and and let it reboot. If you have a modem and router; reboot those if you have those and try connecting again.

I have a desktop running Windows 7 on an ASUS motherboard and I have to use a USB wireless adapter for internet; the adapter is a Cisco Linksys model AE2500. I can connect to a network fine but approximately every 20 minutes I lose internet access without being dropped from the network completely. To fix it I have to right click the network icon in the taskbar and choose 'Troubleshoot problems.' This fixes it pretty much every time saying that what was fixed was the 'The default gateway was not available'. I play online games so having a connection that keeps dropping out is going to be really inconvenient.

This has happened with this computer in 2 different houses; with 2 different modem routers; and using 2 different wireless adapters so I'm thinking this has to be something with the actual computer. In my first house I was able to use a wired connection to overrun this problem and it worked fine, but that is not an option at my new location. I saw forum posts about changing the power settings to prevent USB connections from being dropped to save power and I disabled these options but I am still experimenting this problem. The modem/router I am currently using is a Cisco Linksys E1500.

If anyone has additional recommendations for things to change that would be great; if there is additional information needed about my computer/adapter/modem let me know.

Thanks

Edit: I should also mention that others in the house can hold a stable inte... Read more

Okay, so my internet connection was working fine yesterday morning. Then, out of nowhere, in the evening, for some reason my browser says that the page cannot be found etc. Outlook express will not work either. I checked my network connection and it appeared with no problem. Now, my motherboard has two ethernet ports and I tried to switch, then I recieve an error saying that something has been disabled and the computer will shutdown in 60 seconds (don't remember the exact message). I figure if I turn windows firewall on it would go away. I go and right click on my network connection and for some reason I cannot enable windows firewall, the selection has been greyed out for some reason.

I thought maybe it was the blaster worm, but I have XP Sp3, I tried the diagnosis tool by symantec for the worm but no luck.

Anyway, this all happens within 5-10 minutes of booting up the computer. It is extremely annoying since it makes no sense whatsoever. Can someone please help me out?

Hi there...thanks in advance for anyone's help/suggestions.

Background: I have an HP laptop, running Windows XP and IE 7, and use a wireless router. I recently had issues with the Vundo virus. I followed the forums here in MajorGeeks and no longer have any issues (at least I don't think so since the _helper.dll files are no longer popping up, and the virus scans come out clean).

Problem: When I'm using this laptop, and open IE, the internet connection is strong and fast for about 5 or 10 minutes. After that, the connection is completely out, although the wireless router icon suggests the connection strength is "excellent."

My other laptop (running Vista) works just fine during all of this, with no connection disruptions (so I know it's not the router, or Comcast causing the problem).

What I've tried: I installed the new beta IE 8, thinking perhaps that might fix something. It did not. Tonight, I will reinstall the network card drivers to see if that helps.

I'd love anyone's thoughts on why the internet connection is going out on me. It is not until I restart the computer that I can browse the web (and ony for a short amount of time). Could it be that I still have virus issues?? If so, any suggestions?

Thanks!

Hello!!! Its me again, Naame13013, and i got another problem. When I go to download a freeware program from a lagit. address after about 5 minutes of downloading the program/song/whatever my Firefox shuts down my internet connection and i have to go to to the box and turn it off, then wait and turn it back on. If it takes less then 5 minutes to download the program or whatever like a 1MB file then it will not shut it off but it will for any file about 1.5MB or more. The only way i know how to deal with it is load it into a download manager called Go!Zilla and then when it shuts down my internet connection, start the steps again and then resume with the download manager and do again tell it finished. If you need me to download anything or start a scan please tell me and i will do so. Just to let you know is that if i don't do anything but surf the web it will not shut down my internet connection. I have Verizon Fios Fiber Optics Internet 5MB/2MB with a router called Actiontec MI424-WR Rev.C and its has the Verizon logo on it. Thanks for your help.

So I had a problem with my T500's backlight initially and long story short, disassembling the computer has now caused the problem in the title. Whenever I plug in the battery/charger and push the power button, the fan will spin and the hdd will whirr a bit, but then after about 3 seconds, the fan will stop and the hdd will click off and cease whirring. The computer will no longer respond to the power button regardless of how many times nor how long the power button is held. I'm looking directly at the wires that carry power. Everything seems to be plugged in. I did the lenovo power trick (IE the 10 one second presses followed by the 30 second long press) and the computer does the 1-3-3-1 beep when I take out the RAM. The monitor is not plugged into it in any way, shape, or form. I do not know if this affects it. However, I have tried attaching the monitor and it still does this. Is there a piece that may have been knocked loose or something? I'm willing to try anything right now because at this point it's a literal brick now.

Answer:Lenovo Thinkpad T500 will turn on for roughly 3 seconds, then turn off and stay off.

Hi npesina, welcome to the forums,

there could be different reasons for the system behaving the way you describe, my suggestions;

remove all hard, SSD and optical drives to see if you experience the same,
remove all RAM, without replacing the drives, and test to see if you receive a system beep code,
remove all components which had previously been removed to test again.

The ultimate test would be to remove everything attached to the mainboard including the CMOS (BIOS) battery excluding the power socket, CPU and the fan. When you attach the power cable the system should come to life, the fan should run and beep codes sound. After that its really just a case of putting the system back together one component at a time testing inbetween each component replacement, leave the main battery and CMOS battery until last to save having to always connect / disconnect the keyboard in order to turn the system on.

If at any point you experience the same issue as now it may well be that the component you replaced at that point or it's attachment socket on the mainboard is the culprit.

Title says it all. This happens with both CS:S and Team Fortress 2. I don't have access to another non-Steam online game right now with which that I can test.

I'm on a wireless connection, the same one we've had at home for ~3 years now. Same 802.11g PCI adapter (Motorola WPCI810G), never had any serious problems with it. Temperatures system-wide are very good, 8800GT never gets above 55C, CPU never above 50C. The ONLY computer affected by this problem is my main gaming rig, all others on the network work fine when this one crashes.

The problem started when I wiped my C drive and started over with a new XP installation.

Things I've tried to help fix the problem:

Uninstalled ESET SmartSecurity. Didn't make a difference.
Enabled/disabled Windows Firewall, no change.
Tried repositioning the PCI adapter's antenna. No change.
One important note - I left Steam's files on my D partition (where all games are installed) so that I wouldn't have to needlessly update all my Steam games.

Also, the connection restores itself after approximately one minute of inactivity.

Input, suggestions are appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Answer:Steam crashes my internet connection after ~15 minutes of online gaming.

I would survey your location and make sure there are no strong wifi signals from other neighbors affecting your setup. Walk around with a laptop. If you find others using wifi, consider using another channel or ideally use a wired connection.

Okay I started having quirky issues a few days ago...After about 5 minutes, I lose internet connectivity, however I am connected... I have an IP address, I can download from limewire, I just can't use the internet. It doesn't matter if I am connected wirelessly or wired. I've tried disabling the firewall that doesn't help. I've tried reinstalling the ethernet controller that doesn't help. A few weeks ago I tried to upgrade to explorer 8 (I'm currently using 6) but when it did I couldn't connect at all. Firefox completely stopped working. Any ideas?

I'm connecting to my home network using a Devolo dLAN Ethernet connection as my wifi signal is insufficient where I use my laptop. I've used this method for months now without much issue, however in the past few weeks the connection to the Internet has been almost non-existent.
This is how things go when I start my computer: I'm connected to my home network instantly, showing local and Internet connectivity. The Internet will work perfectly for approximately 5 minutes, then completely stop working (absolutely no data connection whatsoever), while still showing an Internet connection in the task bar. The connection icon will then cycle between "Local and Internet", "Limited Connectivity" and "Local Only" in varying order, over and over with 5-30 minutes between each. When the icon shows an Internet connection there is still no connectivity and no loading of web pages in my browser. If I reset my computer then the same thing will happen - 5 minutes of Internet then nothing.
If I "diagnose and repair" the connection, the diagnostic sometimes finds no problem with the Internet connection. Other times it will recognise a lack of connectivity but only cycle thru the options of resetting the network adapter and resetting IP information, neither of which ever solve the problem.
Having looked at similar problems in the forums, I have tried changing the power management option on the network adapter, ensuring the computer does not disable the dev... Read more

Answer:Internet connection cuts out after 5 minutes (electrical wiring ethernet adapter)

I'm having the exact same problem. I use a TP-link powerline adapter.
It'll be fine for a few minutes, but then it will just stop working. Says in the taskbar I do have an internet connecion, while I can access no websites etc.
Fun thing: when I am connected to skype/similar-programs etc I CAN still chat, even though I can access no webpages.
If I disable the LAN adapter and then re-enable it, it'll work again. For another couple of minutes, until it fails again.

I had it for nearly 2 years,Lenovo Y50-70 Touch -2 days ago while playing games on it, I smell a chemical smell coming from it so I immediately shut it down just in case. The next time I turn it on, it was fine the backlit keyboard glow red as usual but no display, and now it shut down after 4 seconds (with the fan running) whenever I turn it on except, sometimes It stay on (but still no display and no fan running).I got no experience into opening pc and such, I I tried opening it up and remove the dust that built us by quite a bit and tried to locate where the chemical smell was from, I though it was probably from the Fan or Coolers as it seems more strong there but not sure. After trying to turn the laptop on a few time the strong smell kind of dissipate a lot, and smell weaker.I been having a hard time trying to pinpoint just which part of the laptop is needed to replace. So if anyone could help me in the right direction it would be great. I just hope it wont have to buy a whole new motherboard x.xAlso idk if thats helpful information, but the first year playing games was fine, but the 2nd year and the laptop kind of overheated so I tried to cut down a bit and the fans were making more noises than ever. Especially when opening a new game or google chrome.

Answer: Laptop turn on for 4 seconds (No Display, Fan noise) and then turn off

A chemical smell to me tells me it's likely a failing/burnt out capacitor...It would be best to have it checked out at a shop...
