wifi printer problem with Tp link router

Question: wifi printer problem with Tp link router

Hello, I have a problem with a Tplink W8968. My Canon printer wifi does'nt work with this router. I tried to setup the Canon with another router and it works fine. With Tplink It's impossibile to use it in wifi. If I try to install the Canon with the software - - the printer does'nt work because the router doesn't assign any ip address to the printer. I tried also to put manually a Ip address but I have the same problem: the Canon is not visible by wifi. Please help me!

Hey everyone! I'm new here. Currently have an apple router and have had it for maybe 6-7years. I think it is finally on its last leg. It has become unreliable at times.

The question I have is about the TP-link c7 wifi router. I have a 2 story house that's around 1600sf. The wife and I are constantly online and we also use playstation vue. So that takes up a lot of bandwidth. Would the TP-link c7 be the right router for us?

Thanks for your help!

Answer:Reviews on TP-link c7 wifi router

did the apple router work throughout the house ok
if so , you may want to think about an Apple replacement

its going to be difficult to say if it will work reliably and with high speed across the 2 stories, as the construction of the property and also other signals in the area can all cause interference.

Something else to consider , is the powerline adapters with wireless and cable units
This uses the electrical wiring of the house - again the quality and speed would depend on the electrical wiring of the house

I'm a bit of a rookie when it comes to Networking but here goes.

I've got a D-Link DSL-604+ 22Mbps Wireless router with built-in ADSL modem and a D-Link DI-624 108Mbps Wireless Broadband router.

Obviously the DI-624 that I recently purchased doesn't feature an in-built modem so instead of blowing $50 on a D-Link ADSL modem with Ethernet connectivity I was hoping to use the ADSL modem feature in my old Wireless router (604+) as my modem for the DI-624.

I called D-Link support but unfortunately after an hour of following live instructions from their support staff, I ended up nowhere.

They instructed me to disable DHCP and NAT features on the 604+ and plug an ethernet cable into it's LAN PORT 1 and plug the other end into the WAN PORT on the 624.

I plugged an ethernet cable into the DI-624 LAN PORT 1 and into my computer's Ethernet port in order to configure the DI-624.

After configuring the DI-624 via its web configuration web page, I could get the 108Mbps network up and running but without the access to DSL.

If anyone any of the above mentioned products and can provide a tip or a link to a guide or something, that would be great.

where i live TP Link wifi router cost US $15 and Linksys wifi router cost rs US $40

obviously i want to go with TP Link router but i want to know which router offers more quality

ie long range and better bandwidth

i have 2 laptops (xp and win 7), one ipod touch and one andriod tablet all of them using Wifi internet

my old linksys router which is 4 years old has stopped working

Answer:TP Link or Linksys wifi router

That TP Link has almost 800 reviews on Amazon and it's almost all four star reviews. The cost of consumer wireless devises has become very affordable. I use those little $5 USB wifi dongles on my Raspberry Pi's and they work great. The box I'm on now has a low cost NetGear USB dongle and the speed and reliability is great. I'd buy it.

Hi there -- Redlegs here from Adelaide , Sth Aust. Have had to replace my HP printer ( been given last rites after 5 years )with recommended Epson printer. HP was WiFi connected to laptop which is in another room from the PC and printer and had been working perfectly.I have brought the laptop into the room with the PC and printer. First problem arose as I was told " incorrect " password. Router is a DI- 524 ( no longer supported on D- Link's web page as 5 yrs old ) After several attempts and " hissy fits " , I was able to poke around in a help web page and I think I found the password , tho it was listed as the " Preshare Key ".Have been using the Epson Installation disc and things seem to go along smoothly , then it always bombs out --" Not connected " message appears, I print out a Status Report -- it's fairly long and a little hard to interpret , but it does say the password " does not match the one set for your router/access point" .I did have some probs when I first linked my previous printer to the laptop , some years ago , but can't recall the many steps I went through back then. Have got W7 , Epson printer model is WF 3520, laptop is a Toshiba. Any ideas ?? --- they will all be greatly received.
Cheers , Neville D ( aka Redlegs )

Answer:Trying to link new Epson printer by WiFi to laptop

I have just installed a similar printer for a friend and came across exactly the same sort of problem. In the end I went into the router and changed the password then used the new password when asked for using the install wifi printer wizard You will need to access the log-in admin pages of your router - the IP address could possibly be or or something similar. You should type this into the address bar at the top of the browser (not into the Google box) and this should lead you to a log-in screen. If you have not changed the password then the default is usually: password and username: admin.

-- works like a charm.

However, when I first logged into it to set it up -- it offered me a generic username and password. This allowed me to get to an internet page and create my networks. Once logged in I could create my two networks and passwords. All has been good for a few weeks. But then --

-- I wondered if it was safe to keep the original generic username and password? As in it's public knowledge what these are. I called TP-Link and they said it's okay because someone would have to be ON my network to change these.

Is this true?

Answer:My dual band TP-LINK Wifi Router

Big question here.... even if it isn't that big of a security risk.....why not just set your own custom username and password anyway?

can you explain what specifically you wanted to do

The router will broadcast a wireless signal - enabling any device to pick up and use the router to access the internet, providing the router is connected to an internet service.

Nothing to do with your PC
The PC is just another device that can connect to the wireless broadcast by the router
But the PC will need to be switched on to do that
Other devices can continue to use the router , even with your PC off

I have a TP-Link TL-WR340G+ Wifi Router which I got in China and all the interfaces and menus are in Chinese and it seems there is no option to change the language.

In Chinese it is useless to me. Is it possible to change the language? Maybe with a firmware update? What is the best approach?

I am told the WR340G+ is the same thing as the WR340G but with Chinese language.

I suspect the hardware is the same and the firmware could be changed but I would not want to risk ending up with a dead piece of junk.

I have been using a TP-Link WR1043-ND for a while now. It is configured as a dumb switch with DHCP disabled. Every other day or so, the device stops taking connections and I cannot access via the IP address. A simple power toggle resets everything immediately. Through this, the LAN connected devices never lose connectivity, I simply am not able to connect wirelessly or access the router via web browser.

The only device I connect to the wifi is my phone, so it may actually be more frequently and I do not notice due to my low utilization (and I have 3G so I don't always notice right away if I'm connected). I have a WDTV Live SMP connected to one of the LAN ports and that functions non-stop regardless of the wifi. When the wifi is "down", my phone can see the network and attempts to connect. Sometimes it times out, other times I am repeatedly prompted that the password is incorrect, even though I am POSITIVE that I am entering it correctly. Once I toggle power on the router, the phone connects fine with the stored password.

I have updated to the latest firmware (about a month or so ago): Version: 3.13.12 Build 120405 Rel.33996n
My hardware version is: WR1043ND v1 00000000

The router is connected (via LAN port 1) to a wall drop. My upstairs roomate maintains the gig switch and modem, as well as handling the network admin. I simply am using the router as a switch to provide extra ports and broadcast the network over wifi in my apartment.

All that said: I ne... Read more

I had it connected a few days ago, and everytime we used the cordless, it would die out.

I worked around that, but now, everytime i use my laptop (integrated wifi card), it says that it's found available networks when i try to connect to my router. It finds my two neighbor's routers and won't let me connect to mine. I've tried changing the channels with no luck...

Also, i don't know how to set it up so windows doesn't automatically change my settings

Answer:So my laptop won't connect to my D-Link wifi router anymore...

I was having somewhat of a similar problem. I have a D-Link router/ap in my bedroom, and a computer in the living room with a wireless pci card.

One day the computer in the living room wasn't connecting anymore. Aparently someone else just set up a wireless network in the neighborhood, and every now and then it would detect the other network and be waiting for me to choose which one to connect to. I guess that network is just out of range and it only picks it up during the right conditions.

What I did was (in WinXP), on that screen click advanced, then select the network from the list at the top, click configure then just click ok. It will now show up at the bottom in the prefered list, now just move it to the bottom of the list and it should connect to yours by default.

That solved that problem for me, but I'm having another problem though, but I'll get to it in my own post.

Hey people, purchased a new D-Link DIR 655 Xtreme gigabit N and want to know if I can network my old usb lexmark optra t610 laser printer to the router. The router has a usb port which according to online documentation allows a usb printer connection through the usb port The documentation is not clear on whether the printer has to have buit-in server functionality, mine isnt and has to be connected to a computer to work.
The printer at this point, is connected to a mac on the other side of the room. I have a pc that is connected to the router (wired rj45) and does not have a wireless adapter. I would like to use the printer as well but not sure if the printer connected to the routers usb port could work or if I have to purchase a wireless adapter for my pc to be able to use the printer via the router usb.
To sort this mayhem, my question: Is it possible to connect my printer to the router through the usb and be able to connect to the printer from my pc without a wireless adapter?. From what I have read online is that just connecting the printer to the router's usb port will allow multiple computer access to the printer. not sure whether this means wired or wireless. Any takes on this mayhem? thanks.

Previously, I used a Belkin router for internet connection and connected to printer via ethernet cable. Belkin had frequent disconnects to internet, so I decided to use my D-Link DIR-655 router from another home. While it works well for internet, it will no longer connect with my printer, either via ethernet or wirelessly. I must carry my laptops to the printer and us a USB cable to get printouts. I bought a TP-Link TL-WR84N last week. I have a 50ft Ethernet cable connecting my ISP provided modem/router to the TP-Link router. The wired connection from the TP-Link to my computer is good (90mbps). However, the WiFi download speed is super slow (1.8mbps).
The router's firmware is up-to-date. (3.14.4 Build 131129 Rel.39318n)
The main reason I'm setting this up is for a stable Chromecast connection.

Any suggestions to improve the WiFi speed?

I had my Brother MFC-490 printer working on my wireless network before. But recently, I upgraded the firmware on my D-Link router, so of course I got a new TKIP/AES key. The key is 64 character long, but the Brother printer only allows me to enter 63 characters. What gives? I do not recall what I did before to get the printer on my wireless network, so on the very unlikely off chance that I can just leave out the last character in the key, I entered the first 63 characters in the Brother's wireless network setup menu. Of course, that did not work. I realize further that my previous TKIP/AES key was also 64 characters. So it is completely baffling how I got the printer to work before. Any help would be very much appreciated.

Answer:Brother printer wireless setup with d-link router

Use a shorter key. A random key of 32 characters will be more than sufficient to stop anyone except perhaps the CIA or NSA.

I have a cabled network printer, Xerox Phaser 6125n, that have always worked properly from my 3 desktop computers and my laptop.
A few days ago, my old dlink router went dead, and I replaced it with the TP-Link WDR4300 router. Everything worked as usual afterwards, until I found out I could no longer print on my printer. I can access the printers web interface through the ip adress, change settings and such through the browser, but the printer has offline status in windows and print jobs never leaves the print queue in windows. I tried deleting the printer in windows (tried both windows 7 and 8) to reinstall it, but now the Add Printer Wizard can't find it. (I can't still ping the printer and access it through it's web interface). Tried adding it manually pointing it to the printers ip adress, but it won't work.

I tried hooking up an old Linksys router I found, just plugging in the printer and my laptop, and voila: windows found the printer at once and I could print. Back in the new router: no printing.

I've been through all the settings for the router, but can't find anything that looks relevant. I contacted their support, and they don't have an answer but want me to connect my printer to the routers usb port, then install their usb controller utility on my computers and use it that way. But I don't want that. First of all because my printer is located in a different room than the router, and secondly, I don't want to ins... Read more

Hi.A bit strange problem has occurred on my Y550.When trying to connect y550 to a D-Link DIR-301 router (whether via Ethernet or WiFi), the connection on router crashes and becomes invisible to other computers for a short period of time. Then connection stands up but overtime y550 attempts to get through it crashes over and over again.Y550 connects to router (sometimes there is access to the Internet - sometimes connection is limited) but only for a few seconds before connections crashes. It works fine on any other router I've been using e.g.. Asus.At first I thought this problem was caused by assigning dynamic IP but after setting up it to static values the problem still occurred. I have checked any possible issues with power management (on network adapters, power plan, with and without battery). Drivers update also did not bring any effects.Ip config shows nothing, as if it was not connected (I called it during that short period when y550 was connected)Eventually I found out that connection works fine in Safe Mode so this must be some software/driver issue.I've used one key recovery and brought y550 to it;s original fresh out-of-the-box state and problem still occurs (even after updating drivers again. No drivers available via helps.I've read nearly 3/4 of the entire Internet seeking for solutions - couldn't' find anything. One step left for me to check is remove Intel software which manages connections.Any ideas guys?

I am running completely wireless now. I have a Linksys WRT54G router and about 5 computers connected to it wirelessly (G).

I have a printer that has a built in network card, and you can configure the IP address from the setup screen on the printer. (Xerox C2424)

I'm trying to link the printer up to the router, wirelessly. I have been told that you can use a USB Print Server, but that would not be necessary considering that I have a built-in network card already in the printer. I just purchased a DWL-G700AP D-Link Access Point to hook up to the printer, but I am unsure of how I should configure it. I am trying to link the printer wirelessly to the router, and sharing that to the people on my network.

I have had a Linksys BEFW11S4 Version 4 Wireless router for quite some time.  It works like a champ and I have one Laptop wired to it and a second using Wireless working just fine.  Recently, I received a new ThinkPad W500 Laptop with an Intel WIFI Link 5100 AGN wireless network adapter.  The older laptop (ThinkPad T60p) that works just fine with the router uses a11a/b/g Wireless LAN Mini PCI Express Adapter by Atheros.  However, the NEW laptop (the W500) with the Intel Adapter fails to connect to the Router.  It will either indicate a failure while "Waiting for Association" or it will indicate a failure when waiting to "renew IP Address".  Sometimes, it will show a signal strength close to ZERO (Even as the older laptop with the other adapter is showing a signal strength close to 100%) When I called Linksys support, I was told that the facts that the Router (a) works find with the wired Laptop and (b) works fine with the 11a/b/g NEtwork Adapter and (c) works fine when WIRED to the new laptop all indicate that the problem is NOT with the router at all -- but with the Network Adapter.  Can anyone tell me what has to be adjusted in the Adapter settings?  Right now, I am using IBM Access Connections for BOTH of the wireless laptops.  I have made sure to set IDENTICAL values for SSID and WEP (128-bit) [static] password.  I have also ensured that all OTHER settings are the same for the two laptops.  Yet, in... Answer:Canon Pixma printer not detectable by wifi even though itnis connected to my router

go into router settings page and find the IP address the router has assigned to the printer ( or similar).
then in the desktop you need to go into Add new printer , look for the ip address.
tablets and phones need an cloud printing app or similar.

I despertly need help with my nat type 3 problem on my ps3. I have an Embarq 660 series DSL modem and a DLINK DIR 615 router. I have spent days online reading post on how to get to nat type 2,but nothing seems to work. I contated my ISP and they were able to help me get my 660 modemto nat2 if I plug my ethernet cable directly into my ps3, but that is a hassle considering i have 2 other devices on my network. If i try to connect through my router i instantly get NAT type 3. I have done everything i could think of on my router settings. I have enabed UPnP, set dmz for my PS3. port foward ports that i got off of I set my ps3 static ip address to I think i set my MAC ID for my PS3 to forward ports just to my ps3. I just don't know what else to do. Mabye I missed something or am not doing something correctly. Any and all help would be greatly appreicated. Please resopnd i am desprate.

I've got a D-Link Wireless Router (which, conveniently, mostly has Chinese interface), and I often get these messages when I start up:
"ANIWZCS2 Service Launcher has encountered a problem and needs to close."
I've heard I might need to upgrade my drivers, but I'm reluctant because it was such a pain in the arse to get the thing working in the first place. Any suggestions?
I also get a warning right at start up that the "CPU is over temperature - press F1 to resume", which seems to be related to the router again (because I've only had the warning since I've had the router). Again, any thoughts?

Thanks, you guys!

So after searching for about a week i come here to share a problem.
I have set in the router static dns servers(, but even when i set
a different dns servers(doesn't mattar which) on an end device(iphone, galaxy, computer on wi-fi/ethernet)
it completly ignores that and uses solely the dns configured on the router. After searching i found out that unless something called dns relay is on the end device should have priority on the dns servers but there is no such option on the router configuration, so i went and checked the iptables but i didnt see anything weird there.
Does anyone know some otherway the ISP could have set this up? cause i have some devices where i need to set different dns servers for my work.

Thanks in advance to whoever helps me

Hi good day!!! I just want to know if there's any issues about D-Link router's especially DI-524 router and WBR-1310 router because when I use my Xbox to my DI-524 router it works fine after I open the ports to it. I tried to connect my other computer to join and use the Xbox but it won't work and gives an error through the NAT connection problem (I haven't get the exact error but, I will try to get ASAP) and I am not sure if it's on the router because as far as I know, the NAT on my DI-524 router cannot be disable or can be chage. It also applies on my friends WBR-1310 router. Can you give me an idea what to do and please give me an answers about NAT connection problems on different gaming devices such as XBox, PS2, PS3 and PSP about NAT problem. Thank you so much!!! Hope you can help me and add my knowledge about it. Again, Tnx!!!

A couple of months ago, I bought a new wireless router (a TP-Link TD-W8968). It's been working like a charm until yesterday when internet speed suddenly seemed to drop significantly to the point where it's almost impossible to open any webpages (I do get some connection but it's extremely slow). I know it's not a problem with the ISP since it works perfectly fine when I switch back to my old wireless router. It also seems to work if I connect to the TP-Link with a LAN cable. Any ideas what the issue might be? Could it simply be a faulty router and if so, is there any way to verify this before I contact the seller?

Edit: Actually, let me take some of that back, when I connect with a LAN cable it seems to work better initially but it's like connection slows down in the extreme after a minute or two. Still works fine with my old wireless router though.

Answer:TP-Link router problem

Sorry for all the edits but I've fiddled around with it some more and I now believe that it is an ISP issue after all. When I said it was working fine with my old router it was, until I tried accessing data-heavy websites or tried downloading files in which case it's peaking at 10-15 kb/s. I've called my ISP and they're looking in to it.

My D-Link DI-614+ Revision B router seems to time out every once and while and I have to unplug it and reset the router for it to work..

Anyone know why? Is it common at all?

Response from Tech-support said try this:

A large amount of traffic may lock the router up. Disable any broadcast protocols or unused protocols such as NetBEUI and IPX/SPX: Just 1 IE window open and MSN...

Disable UPnP if not being used on both your computer (ME or XP) and on the router (Tools - Misc). Its not on..

Check the log on your router. Is it showing a large amount of traffic? If coming from 1 IP address, you may want to use the IP Filter to block that user No

Check the log settings and uncheck some of the items the router will report. yup done

Check your firewall and virtual server settings on the router. Too many may degrade performance of the router. Only have them as defualt..

Upgrade firmware at If you have the latest version, flash it again. First thing I did

Perform a hard reset on the router and reconfigure. With the unit powered on, use a paperclip and hold down the reset button for 10-15 seconds. Release and wait about 20 seconds. DO NOT power off while holding the reset button.
Tried that one more than once.

RMA it, i have had same problem.

I am doing that soon I would try changing the MTU a bit lower on the router though

I've recently started having trouble with my old D-Link di-524 wireless router. I checked some of the old forum posts but couldn't find my issue exactly, and I'm hoping someone can help me out here.

A couple of days ago, our wireless network started having problems - mostly just taking a long time to access websites. This continued for a day or two, and then our wireless network just disappeared altogether. It's not listed among the possible networks my computer can connect to.

I tried turning both the router and the modem off and on, and resetting them. I called our provider (Comcast), who reset the modem remotely. If I connect a computer to the modem OR to the router with an ethernet cable, the internet connection works fine, so there is obviously an internet signal coming through the modem to the router. The problem seems to be that the router is not sending that wireless signal on.

We have a pretty basic setup - 2 Macbooks using our home wireless network, and a WD media player we got a couple weeks ago that is hardwired to the router. All these things have worked fine for some time.

The router itself is probably 7 years old, and I wonder if its time is up. Any thoughts?

I have a new D-Link 615 router I cannot setup despite having followed all instructions on the setup CD and get a completed successfully message. When I try to setup a new network for it in the computer, it does not recoginize the router. It seems rather strange that the setup instructions for the router require an Ethernet connection from the router to the computer, and another from the router to the modem. This is "wireless"? I use Win 7, 64 bit Asus K52D laptop but cdannot find anywhere it says to connect to WiFi. It does say internet acces through my Network 4 and in the inferastructure of that network I see the DIR-615 icon but clicking on it does nothing. So it says it is succesful in setup but only going through a modem. When I turn offf the modem, the internet connection breaks. Any advice? Did I give you enough information.

Ok I have a Asus G60VX thats less than a year old running windows 7. On Friday (three days ago) the system was working fine, I could connect to the internet and everything. Tonight when i turned on my laptop it showed that i couldn't connect to the internet. So i rebooted both my computer and router thinking it was my brother playing Xbox live. It still didn't work. So i tried the usual suspects: deleted the saved file and made a new one, went into the device manager and made sure there weren't any problems (there weren't), i even tried doing a system restore but to no avail. I tried the Fn combo on my keyboard and the switch on the front but this still didn't work. After three hours searching for a solution on my desktop (which can access the internet fine) I kinda want to take a sledge hammer to the thing. :) So at this point i'm begging for a solution! thanks!

Answer:Problem with Intel WiFi link 5100?

Did you install any iTunes or Apple software before this happened?

For now, try resetting the network protocol tcp/ip stack. In an elevated command prompt, copy and paste this then hit enter:

netsh int ip reset resetlog.txt
Then do the same for this command:

netsh winsock reset
Reboot and test the connection. If still no good, go into Internet Explorer.

Tools | Internet Options | Connection | Lan Settings

and make sure there are no checked boxes. Then ok your way out a few times. Reopen IE and test.

If still no good, please respond about the Apple, iTunes software and/or do you have mdnsresponder.exe in the task manager?

i just replaced an old belkin g router with a d-link dir-825 extreme n dual-band router...i managed to get the desktop connected to the internet using a d-link dwa-552 pci adapter (after updating using the atheros version driver, the included software manager/driver on the cd was a pain-in-the-a$$)...

the macbook pro also connects to the router and the does the wii and the ps3...using WPA2 security...

the vaio laptop, with vista business 32-bit and an intel wifi 4965agn adapter will not connect to either the router ( or the internet in a browser window...

i updated the driver to the latest version...

the wireless network shows up, but when i try to connect it says "local access only" the vista diagnostic window it says "can't connect to primary dns server" (

i set up the router with this same laptop using a wired connection and the d-link set-up wizard, and i got an internet connection just won't connect wirelessly...

of course i reset the router and the cable modem (time warner/roadrunner)...

is it an ip address problem? if so, how do i solve it?

thanks for any ideas...

I've been trying forever to figure out whats going wrong with my wireless connection and D-Link is becoming no help to me and i'm running out of ideas. I have a dlink dir-625 and i'm using a wireless card in both my laptop and my desktop computer. I'll just talk about my desktop because if i can figure out the desktop problem it will probably solve my laptop problem. I've pretty much got the dropped connections figured out just by luck lol. But i'm still having a problem when i play a video or audio on my computer about every 30 seconds the audio goes glitchy (choppy) for a few seconds and then goes back to normal and it keeps reapeating throughout the whole thing. But once i disable my wireless card it plays fine. Any help would be GREATLY APPRECIATED!

Answer:Major Router Problem with D-Link

I don't use wireless so I'm mainly guessing here. I think that at 30 secound intervals your wireless card is pinging (checking it's status) your wireless router, this is done whether you are using the net or not.It sounds like this is stressing your system, which causes the glitches for those few secounds. There may be a symbol in the notification area of the taskbar, which will enable you to temp disable the wless card.Hope this helps (course I maybe completely wrong, but gets you started).

I had to replace my old and crappy router with a new one and now I'm with D-Link WBR-2310. I have one wired desktop with XP SP2, one notebook with XP SP2 and one iTouch with 2.2.
I had no problems with setting up the configuration as a whole, but it just disappears as a wireless network. It does that randomly, and when I cannot detect it neither by the laptop nor with the iPod, the wired computer remains undisturbed and connected to the WAN no problem.
When I go to the D-Link website of the router, I just click on "Save Settings" (without changing anything), the router resets and miraculously, everything is back to normal, wireless working perfectly. I find that funny.
Does anyone know how to stop my router from having its random periods? What, we have women, now its technology's turn to go to the dark side?

Hi, Im not that up on networking but here is what I have done at a friends house.
She lives in a big house so what I have done is used a tp-ling adsl router (router 1)at one end of the house with a ip address a cat 5 cable runs to the other end of the house with a TP-Link wireless router (router 2) at the other end of which I have changed the ip address to as it was conflicting with the first router (they had the same ip).
So I connected one laptop to the router 2 and it connected to the internet no problem. I did an ipconfig and its gateway was (router 1). I connected a second laptop and straight away it connected to the internet and had the same gateway ip.
I try to connect a brand new laptop and it wont connect. It can only see router 2 ( I have ping'ed but its not accessable. I have gone into the dhcp and changed the default gateway to on the laptop but still won't work.
It must be a setting on the new laptop that needs changing. Its on W7 home.
Anyone know what can be wrong? Why 2 laptops where fine but the third not?
Sorry for the long post.

Answer:IP network two TP-Link router problem.

You don't say what type of router the second one is. If it's a Cable/DSL router (i.e without a built-in ADSL Modem), then its WAN port should be connected to the main router. Its WAN IP address, which would normally be an internet IP address, will in this situation be a 192.168.1.x address allocated by the first router. It will in turn allocate 192.168.2.x addresses to any computers connected to it.
The problem arises if you should want to network computers connected to the different routers, and thus different Subnets (IP address ranges), because they won't see each other. The Subnet Mask, as its name suggests, "masks" the separate Subnets to keep them separate.
"I try to connect a brand new laptop and it wont connect. It can only see router 2 ( I have ping'ed but its not accessable. I have gone into the dhcp and changed the default gateway to on the laptop but still won't work"
If it is connected to router2 with a 192.168.2.x IP address, then its Default Gateway address is and router2 itself will have a WAN Default Gateway address of which is router1. The computer with a 192.168.2.x address will not be able to ping
The alternative arrangement would be to disable router2's DHCP server and connect it via one of its LAN ports to router1. It would then perform as a basic Network Switch / Wireless Access Point with all addresses allocated by router1 and in the subnet.

wife has company laptop running vista business which used to connect to my NTL modem and D-Link router wirelessly, she took it to work to update software and anti virus now it wont connect to the web although I can see a list of available netwoeks including mine which is secured, depending on which option I try to connect I either get the message "Pres the configuration button on your access point" not sure which is the configuration button, or "A network security key is required to connect", I have tried what I thought I had put as a password when I set the router up and also the pin number from the router, I have opened the D-Link web browser, but I cannot remember my login details.all help and advice greatly appreciated.

Answer:D-link router connection problem

The router's default login is probably "Admin" (without the quotes) as the Username with the Password field left blank. The wireless encryption key in my D-Link router is masked with dots so, if you cannot remember what yours was, you may need to create a new key. You would then need to delete the 'profile' in all computers that connected with the old key and go through the procedure to Connect again. It may actually be sufficient to delete the 'profile' in your wife's Laptop and Connect again, so try that as a first step.

Hey guys. I really hope my problem can be resolved here since its been going on for quite a long time.

Ok to start off I want to talk about the way my router is set up with my DSL modem. I have my ethernet cable going from my Primus DSL modem (I live in Canada BTW) directly into my DLINK Router. Even though it is a wireless router I have both of my computers wired. Since I used to have a wired-only router a few years back I just stuck with this set up. Im using the wireless connection for my PS3 and my PSP. I even tried using a wired connection for my PS3. Everything has been going great until a few weeks ago.

First I just want to say that my router has 5 inputs in the back (like most), 1 WAN and 4 LAN. The funny thing is that when I plug my modem into the WAN slot on my router I cant get anything to work! It was like that with all my other routers as well. Even a few years back when I used to have Sympatico DSL I could not plug my modem into the WAN slot. Instead the modem HAS TO be plugged into either of the 4 LAN slots. Now that we have Primus DSL and this new DLINK router the history repeats itself. You guys can look at the little attachment pic I made for reference. The funny thing is that when I first try to set up my DLINK router with the included CD it asked me to plug the modem into the WAN slot on the back of the router. When I did that the router detected the modem but it couldnt detect the internet connection, which is completely frustrating.

Anyway, now this ... Read more

I am new here. I'm not even sure if this question is in the correct forum (I hope so). I have a Toshiba Satellite A305 laptop that I purchased a few months ago. In the last month, the wireless connection has been dropping like mad ! And more recently, when it drops, it says it can't find any wireless networks. I then have to perform a hard shut off (by holding the power button till it powers down) and wait a few minutes to turn it back on. I have uninstalled the wireless adapter and then reinstalled it and that didn't work either. Also, all the drivers are up to date. I am very frustrated at this point and don't know what to do. Any help that anyone can offer would be greatly appreciated !!

Thanks !!

It is always a VERY good idea to check the microfilters (if using ADSL) which are fitted into your phone sockets and make certain that you have microfilters in any socket in the house. Microfilters are very cheap to get hold of and its worth having a few spare.

When this happens, the wifi card is still detected in the Windows device manager. I reinstalled all drivers, but this didn't fix the problem.
The card can be switched on and off several times per minute, but most often when the card is turned off it is hard to activate it again.

Fn + F8 works well, if WiFi Link works properly himself.

Is there still someone who remembers this model and met with such behavior?

I want to use a separate wifi router with my Comcast cable modem that has a built-in wireless router. I want to improve speed and also use a better firewall.

Am I correct that if I put the Comcast cable modem into bridge mode, I can still address it via it's IP address, which for me is

So should I set up the separate wireless router as Will this device also get an external IP address on the Comcast WAN?

My problem is in my aunt's wireless network. About a year ago I helped her set up a network for her new laptop. And everything was working just fine until about 2 weeks ago. Were she would be able to access the internet with her laptop, now she can't. I've checked the cables and the setup, nothing has changed. No shock there. But for some reason the computer will see the network but not connect to the net through the router. What gives?

Working with:

D-Link WBR-2310 Wireless Router
Toshiba Satellite L45-S7409 Laptop PC

Answer:I have a problem with a D-Link WBR-2310 Wireless Router

This might be a problem with the laptop and not the router. What operating system is on the laptop? Has your aunt recently applied or updated any software on her laptop?

I got D-link DI624 wireless router, and I use the bitcomet to download the most stuff I need. The problem is I normal download speed by using Bitcomet is around 300k, but after I use the router the speed can only reach 80k.
I've tried to open the port for Bitcomet I open the virtual server 6881-6889 & 12242 to and port trigger 6881-6889 & 12242 to, but It still doesn't help. I've test when I download reach around 300k and I swich to use Router and It just slow down to around 50-80k and never goes up.

Does anyone know what may cause this, and how to solve this problem.
Please help me out.

Hi there

I have a small wireless broadband network at home. Up until a few weeks ago it was all good. I started experiencing problems with the line being dropped for hours at a time. Couldn't connect to internet at all but all pcs in house still seeing wireless router. Broadband service provider came to check and when he left, the router had lost all it's settings. I resetup the router with the same network name and WPA key etc. Now I cannot establish a wireless link from my laptop to the router. I can plug in the usb cable directly and connect to the internet. All other pcs in the house are fine.

What I see is that momentarily the wireless link is established with excellent connectivity but then it drops saying it's trying to acquire a network address and provides me with a list of wireless networks that I could connect to, mine being in the list. On my laptop, I have re-entered the wireless network name and retyped the WPA key to authenticate but am still not able to connect.

Any suggestions would be very welcome.

Thanks ahead,

Answer:Problem connecting via wireless link to router

This sounds as if your laptop is not getting an IP address from the router. This is probably due to security settings on the router, so 1st I would disable all wireless security while this is fixed.
Access the router with a patch cable to get at the settings.
If you can then sign on - run cmd and then ipconfig to make sure you have been given an IP address by the router for both the wireless and cable connection.
Once you have a connection, reset the security - one thing to check might be access permissions by MAC number.
Hope this helps

Hi people, got a couple of queries. Post is a bit long, please be patient

1) Been trying to set up a wireless router for a few friends (living in different houses), who have recently all purchased new Dell PCs (P4 3Ghz+).

All of them have the same router - a D-Link ADSL router (wireless - dsl-g604t).

Problem is this keeps on 'zoning out'. i.e. this will keep on losing the internet connection so they have to re-type in the username and password (even though when going into the firmware for the router the username and password seem to be set correctly).

Also have to sometimes set the router back to default settings then re-do all relevant settings for AOL. This is not an AOL problem as this is happening to other d-link routers across different ISPs eg Nildram/Zen .

Will updating the firmware correct it?? - I have heard that this sometimes adds to problems -has anyone else has had this problem. Literally all the routers (around 5) are causing this type of problem. The router lights are on even though it loses the internet connection.

One router is attached via a CAT5 cable to its respective Dell PC (using Nildram).

3 PCs are connected to the router via USB network sticks (ie other 3 PCs each one in a different peron's house). These PCs were connected up to detect the AOL connection and did work initially but keep on losing the connection even though at times the Dell PC can still access the internet...Is this a router problem?

How are you "opening" the ports? Explain in detail. Also, post the TCP/IP configuration of your computer.

BTW why did you think your problem goes under "other hardware" and not "networking"?

I'm trying to set up wireless internet on my PC using the D-Link DI-524 router and a D-Link DWL-G122 USB Wireless Adapter. After following all the steps to connect the router to my modem & computer, I am instructed to enter an IP address ( into my web browser, after which I am to continue the configuration process. However, popping that address into the URL address box of my web browser does nothing but inform me that this page is not available offline, and asks me if I want to connect (which I cannot do).

I am led to understand that the address I am trying to connect with is the router itself, which is lit up as if fully operational. Now why can't I get into the address to continue the process?

BTW, I'm running WinXP.

Any ideas?

Ok guys well here is the problem. I have a d-link vonage voip wireless router and whenever I reset the router*power cycle* it goes back to its default, meaning going back to its default router login, and the wireless goes back to default with no password. So whenever after resetting the router, I will need to reconfigure the router.. This is getting really annoying now . When I had a linksys vonage voip wireless router it did not had the same problem.. Do you have any suggestions? Thanks. Some of you might say why not just turn off the wireless? Well.. Since my mom's and sister's computer is like 30 feet away from the router, and only my dad and my computers are 1-4feet away from the router.

Firstly, sorry for my english.  Now, where´s the problem. I´ve bought two days ago a brand new Lenovo Z570 with pre-installed Win7HP. I do not like it, so I updated it to Proff. version. I installed all the drivers, and when I moved to other room in flat, I was/am not able to connect to internet. Wifi signal is excellent in every room, but the only place where I can connect to internet is my table where is also the router. There´s no problem in connectivity with other devices. My older NB Dell Inspiron 1520 with Broadcom wifi adapter has no problems with connection.  Yeah, and if I move in the same room where´s router too just for a 3 metres, I cannot connect to internet, but the signal is great.  I dont think the problem could be in router ´cause other devices (4 NB´s) are able to connect to the internet in every room. Where could be problem and what I have to do? Thanks for replies

I've tried absolutely everything mentioned in the manual yet nothing seems to work. It is connected properly and configured according to the manual (which can be found here:

My printer is an Epson Stylus CX5300 and I am using Windows XP Pro Service Pack 2.
Any suggestions would be appreciated,

Answer:Problem with D-Link DI-704UP router USB Print server

Since you've done all the following (from the manual), consider the last sentence. (For the benefit of the casual reader, the Epson Stylus CX5300 is an all-in-one printer, scanner, etc.)

-------------- copied from manual -------------------------

Multi-Function Printers Print
If you have to install the printer using the manufactures software, the printer may not work with the router. If the computer needs to have proprietary software installed to talk to the printer, its probably not going to work with your D-Link router. You may be able to print to the multifunction printer, but the other features will probably not work. If you can use the Add Printer Wizard in Windows to install your printer drivers, then the router may be able to print to your printer.

Start by uninstalling everything: the printer software, the D-Link printer port (if installed), and the printer. Then, install the D-Link printer port software. Next, add a new printer and point the installation to the D-Link port for printing. Complete the printer installation by specifying the correct driver for you printer. If you cannot print using the D-Link port, use the instructions at to reconfigure the port to use LPR. If you still have problems printing, try disabling bidirectional printing. If it still fails to print, the printer may be incompatible with the router.

After initial setup of the router all was fine. After going in to set up (it was an unsecured network) WEP security for the network I could no longer connect wirelessly to the Internet. I can connect to the internet when I use a cable from the router to the laptop. The computer shows the wireless network connection is connected and I can print wirelessly to the print server so I think the computer and router are connecting. I can also connect to another laptop through the router and all is fine on that computer. I have talked to D-link tech support and have not solved the problem yet.

I don't know why it will not work now, it did after I first set it up, I should have left well enough alone.

Please help me get back to wireless.

I've searched around on process to secure my wireless network, and just about every articles state to type in the default IP into your web browser to open the D-Link menu. The problem I'm having is, insead of the D-Link menu coming up, I recieve one for my DSL modem.

Is there any other way to check my D-Link config menu?

DSL Modem Model Number is: "ActionTec GT701"
Router Model Number: "WBR-2310"

Answer:Problem with securing my wireless network with D-link router

Your modem is a modem/router combo and probably has the same LAN IP address as the other router. To access the WBR-2310 disconnect it from the modem/router and then connect a computer to one of its LAN ports.

Hi there,
when i installed my dsl connection for the first time,my Internet Service Provider gave me the wepkey of the D-link adsl wireless router(DSL-2640U)that comes with the internet package..i used the wep key for the first time on my laptop and saved the connection and it works and still working correctly with the same saved wep key..The problem im experiencing is that im trying to connect to the wireless router using another devices(laptops,ps3,iphone)with the same wepkey and it doesnt work like if the wepkey is laptop still use the same saved wepkey and it connects with no problem,do you have any idea about this problem?

Answer:D-LINK adsl wireless router wepkey problem

Hi samer.d and welcome to TSG.

Are the other devices actually reporting that the WEP key is wrong and asking you to re-enter it or just reporting a failure to connect or a limited connection?

If your broadband service is sold as being for use with a single computer, the provider could have configured the router to only allow one computer to connect at a time and may have gone a step further and have the router lock on to the MAC address of the first device that connects to it.

I upgraded my T500 to Windows 7 Professional from Vista Business.  Since upgrading, I have been unable to obtain satisfactory WiFi connectivity.  Symptoms are that I cannot stream from either the internet or my local server without experiencing periodic interruptions and/or total drops.  I've tried reinstalling the driver, replacing the WiFi card itself, and adjusting the parameters associated with the adapter card.  Nothing seems to help.  I also own a T61 laptop which I also upgraded from Vista Business to Windows 7 Professional, and I have had no problems with WiFi connectivity on that machine.  It also has an Intel Wifi adapter but a different model.  Both laptops connect to my LAN and the internet through the same D-Link wireless access router. I'm beginning to suspect that the Windows 7 driver for this particular WiFi adapter is flawed.  Has anyone in this forum had a similar experience? Thanks in advance for your comments/assistance.

Then I wonder if Lenovo 3000 N500 4233 series supports N network with the following network card Intel WiFi Link 5100 AGN.When I linked up with Rauter with N, so I got a speed of about 65 Mbps, but far away from thespeed of 100-130 Mbit/s +.I have spoken to Lenovo and received a reply to update drivers on all that goes too uppdate and see if it works. If I do not find them at Lenovo, I would go to Intel and Microsoft homepage to see if there were any new drivers.Slowly and soil, I made it and found newer drivers for the network card but to no avail.I spoke with Lenovo again and got the answer that it could not do more because the card was 65 Mbps, which is certain to N working. In other words, nothing is broken can not be repaired, even if it onlyperforms 1/4 of what it should be!I was still unhappy, I could go back to the medamarkt and return the machine.I wonder how somone can say something like that when intel WiFi Link 5100 AGNshall work up to 300 Mbps while It can't get more then 65 Mbits/s.For if I have 65 then I am on N linkage because the G only goes up to 54 Mbit/s.The most strange is that not only was the serier of Lenovo 3000 N500, having problems with Intel WiFi Link 5100 AGNnot performing as it should. The answer I got was to either leave or wait until someone will solve the problem (Lenovo,Intel or Microsoft).Plus I have age machinery that works good in 130 Mbits/s without problems while a new can not?Strange thinking about this.So what do you do?Someone who knows ...
