Solved: New router will not open some web sites

Question: Solved: New router will not open some web sites

Hi,
I have a TP-Link Archer C7.
Firmware Version: 3.14.1 Build 140929 Rel.33293n
Hardware Version: v2
There are a few sites I cannot access. For example, I cannot access www.frys.com, or www.dell.com.
Other than a few exceptions, I have good Internet access.
I cannot ping either site from a command line in Windows 7 (request times out).
I can ping them in the router admin pages using the ping diagnostics tool TP-Link provides.
I get the same results from all devices on my network, wired or wireless.
I can access these sites when I connect directly to the modem, but not when I connect the router.
MTU adjustment has made no difference (set to 1300 based on pinging Google.com and finding no fragmentation as high as 1272.).
I have double checked that no restrictions, filtering, scheduling or access control is enabled.
I tried temporarily disabling the SPI firewall.
I tried temporarily disabling IPv6.
I updated the firmware from the prior version 131217 last night, but I notice no difference.
I do not believe I need to use MAC cloning. My ISP is Astound. My WAN connection is dynamic IP.
I have not modified the primary and secondary entries for DNS servers.
It is after extensive Googling and attempts that I have compiled the above info. I do not understand all of it, but am just trying to dig up an answer. It seems a lot of people have posted about a similar issue (having a few sites inaccessible), and across various makes and models of routers, but no single issue that resolves it.
Thank you, and any help will be greatly appreciated!

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I have the newest Internet Explorer and im using Vista. I play a game called Travian and I want to use a 'graffic pack' which loads from my PC.

I had to add the site to my 'trusted sites' for it to work, and it does now.

The only thing is that when I open the site it opens a new IE and loads it in there. As it is the only site in my trusted sites I cant load any other sites with that IE, so I need to go to a different one if that makes sence.

How can I make it so that my trusted sites open with my non-tusted sites (using tabs)?

Answer:Solved: How can I make trusted sites and normal sites open together?

Set your tab preferences in IE, otherwise, try Firefox and set those tab preferences.

I have my Firefox preferences for Tabs set to never open in a new window, and always open at least one tab:
New pages should be opened in: a new tab rather than a new window
Always show the tab bar
When I open a link in a new tab, switch to it immediately
Warn me when closing multiple tabs
Warn me when opening multiple tabs might slow down Firefox

Hi,
When I soft-boot my UTStarcom UT 300 R2U modem/router, some sites open fine and others don't. Some others take terribly long to open. Then when I hard-boot it they all open fine. Is this an issue with its software (firmware) or hardware?

Answer:After ADSL modem/router soft-boot some sites don't open

you could check with their website to see if they have a firmware update

Hello all,

I have a friend who is having this problem with her computer. When she tries to access certain websites (which she could previously access), she can no longer access them.

She has reformatted the hard drive and everything, so it seems that the problem must be her router. I do not know what brand of router she is using.

Is it possible that her router is preventing her from accessing certain sites?

I'll try to get more information on this one, but since she lives overseas, it might take awhile.

Thanks in advance!

Answer:Solved: Router blocks certain sites?

Yes your router can be set to block sites.

Also, you didn't mention "which country".

For example, in China, everything in geocities is blocked.

This is a new one for me. My mom brought her laptop over, complaining that she can't get online. I am able to get any https:// site to open normally, but it immediately gives the "This page cannot be displayed" screen any time I try to go to a http:// address.

Applications that have their own internet access still work. For example her Virus scanner and the Spyware Blaster she has installed are both able to pull updates from the internet. I can also get radio streams through WMP.

The operating system is WindowsXP Home Edition with SP2 and the browser is IE 6.0.2900. I used ipconfig to verify that the connection to my router was being made properly. I can ping the router and other computers on the local net.

I compared her network connection settings with mine and didn't see any obvious differences, but I may have not looked deep enough. Any ideas on what would cause this?

Thanks!

Answer:Solved: IE can only open https:// sites

What I would do is check the Security settings under Internet properties. Also take a look at the "restricted sites" section. I would guess that the browser security settings are set way too high.

On the Advanced tab, click "restore defaults".

Take a look at the Add-Ons on the Programs tab. Anything suspicious there?

Scan for spyware using the big 3 - Ad-aware, Spybot, Microsoft Antispyware.

Delete cookies, temporary Internet cache, and the history - it's amazing how many problems this fixes.

To get your mom online in the meantime, download Firefox and let her use that. Who knows - she might switch!

Hello
I just went through a thorough fixing/clearing of a virus on my computer (Win32downloader), and all that is good now (thank you Jeff!) - however, now I cannot open certain links on sites I visit quite often, or within emails from certain sites I am in contact with all the time.
I have Windows 7, Firefox is my default browser. I am using Windows firewall, malwarebytes, spybot, avg antivirus free, noscript, ghostery. I uninstalled noscript to see if that helped, and no difference. There are no boxes or signs saying that I need something to be enabled to have the page function correctly, it just bounces to another spot on the page, and the links don't open. This was not happening before I discovered the virus, and went through the process to clear it out.
Example: the FAQ links for projects in Kickstarter will now not open. I contacted them to make sure the site itself was operating correctly, they said yes, and suggested I use Chrome or IE - which I do not want to do.

Any suggestions are most appreciated!

recently started having some problems, certain web pages/sites wont open first noticed when I tried accessing wikipedia, I get the same page that is displayed when there is no internet access "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage" and the diagnose connection button. some of the speed test sites wont load either, and top10.com returns a latency test error "latency test returned an error whist trying to read the latency file"
It does not appear to be my router or connection, (it was just that I noticed the problem the day after the engineer visited to upgrade my virgin media to 50mb) as I have accessed wikipedia with my laptop. I have also noticed that vuze cannot search, get a message saying "sorry there was a problem loading this page please check your internet connection"
I have reset restored advanced settings, and reset internet explorers settings, I have cleared all cookies history and tempory internet files (although there are five folders and three files that wont delete)
I have checked my hosts file and that appears ok only has the entry "127.0.0.1 local host"
I have run ccleaner, superantispyware and malaware
I have tried google chrome and firefox these dont load wikipedia either
any advice would be much appreciated

I don't know if this has been addressed yet, but i seem to be having a problem with Internet Explorer on both XP and Vista. There are several websites which i can't access, for example, youtube and photobucket.

When i go to the website, it comes up saying 'The Page Can Not Be Displayed'. But the websites easily come up on AOL. Any help on what i can do?

And whilst i'm on the subject on IE, i am also having a problem with McAfee taking over images on the net. On Vista, alot of images are being blocked out by McAfee, but i have no idea on how to get them back.

Thanks .

Hi

I am new to this forum. I am having a major issues with my pc. First its all started when the malware paytime.exe attacked my pc. It turned off my firewall(SP2 Firewall), real-time virus scanner(Trend microoffice client, not using its firewall, provided by my service provider). With the help of hijackthis, spybot and ewido and also the interent , able to delete paytime.exe and its related files.
To this I entered in safe mode.

Now I am able to control my firewall. Thats the only success BUT when I click nvmixer.exe in my taskbar, it shows visual C++ runtime error and my virus scanner is saying that officescan client has not started. So in control panel I entered in administrative tools and tried manually to start real time scan process but I failed again. It shows cannot start this process in safe mode. The same thing is repeated for other processes like error reporting etc. I am booting in normal mode only but its showing cant run in safe mode.

For runtime error I tried to download visual runtime files from support.microsoft, I failed to do so. My browser doesnt open sites of microsoft. When I typed support.microsoft.com, Page cannot display error is coming. I even disabled my firewall still it doesnt works.

Could you tell me how to make my process start again? And is there any program that will tell me about missing dlls if any(presently there are no dialogs of missing dlls). And about my browser security settings?

I also present you the log of the hijackthis.

Sometimes when viruses are cleaned out the process damages system files etc too. I'd suggest starting with a sfc and then if no go run a 'repair' (this installs os over itself and retains data but you'll have to re-do updates).

Hello, i'm really clueless as to my next, step possibly a re-install of windows if no one here can help.

i have a laptop and another PC both networked to my PC using crossover cables. 2 network cards in my computer bridged and ICS shared over the bridge. Both can access the internet with no problems using internet explorer, MSN etc.

My PC however will only do the following:

Ping IP addresses/domain names
allow a bit torrent client to download files
allow a poker program to run online
update ad-aware definitions

It will not:

open web pages using Internet Explorer or Firefox
sign into msn (has once or twice since this problem started)

I have scanned with ad-aware and norton 2007 both up to date, found some things and fixed them but still not working.

Hi I've been having this problem for quite a long time and I've done everything under the sun that I can think of. Right so here's the situation.
For over a year now I've been trying to open ports on my Linksys WRT54GS and it just won't have it. I have a Static Ip, and when I remove the router from the equation I can get access through the port so I know its not my ISP blocking the ports.

I've set up port forwarding on a different router and its worked fine so that pretty much eliminates the possibility that I'm doing something wrong. The only thing I can think of is I have a faulty router, I hope its not the case but I'm at the end of my rope and I want to get this fixed.

A Win98SE computer will not open the router's webpage with either USB nor ethernet connections. I have tried two different routers, a Dynalink RTA1320 which is the PCs router, and my own router, a Dynalink RTA300.

When hooked up to my router the PC can browse the internet, but not open the router's homepage.

When hooked up to the PC's router (the RTA1320) I cannot open the router's homepage in order to setup the ADSL internet connection.

I also cannot ping either of the routers' webpages, 192.168.1.1. The ipconfig /all is as follows:

This seems like it is isolated enough to figure out.

So there's a home network with desktops that are wired and 2 laptops that are wireless. The 1 wireless laptop has had a fresh reinstall of windows XP + all updates.

The problem is that the laptop has problems connecting to certain sites. When we browse to some sites, the images won't dowload (i think it times out) and it shows boxes with Xs in them. some sites work fine, but some always bad.

We've tried the laptop on a different wireless network in a different location and everything worked fine. We've also tried it at the home network with a wired connection, and again it works fine. The other laptop works fine in the home network wirelessly.
The problem only happens when the 1 laptop is on wireless on this 1 router.

I have tried lowering the MTU settings.

another thing that may be related: the problem started around the same time as we initially added the 2nd laptop to the network (it may have been a few days before or after). But when the 2nd laptop is turned off, the problem persists.

Thanks for any help you might volunteer

Answer:Web sites magically open without Internet explorer being open

Please do not edit the logs, though I'm sure you meant well. To rid yourself of those O18 entries, you can uninstall Logitech's Desktop Messenger. It's not really necessary.

From their site:

Quote:

If you choose to disable to uninstall the Logitech Desktop Messenger you will not receive any messages about updates to your products. However we will be posting on in the downloads sections of the Logitech site. So if you choose to monitor the Logitech website as an alternative, you will be able to access the latest updates.

One of the kids downloaded rapid antivirus and it's screwed everything up. I've managed to get rid of therapid AV, but it looks like I've got some malware/adware of some sort running. Attempts to get to symantec, mcaffee, avg, etc give site not available results in IE 7 - includes techguy.org!!!!, but non-"fixit" sites like google and everything else in the world I can get to. Every few clicks, the url is redirected to an ad site.
I've run adaware and trendmicro which found Troj_vg_fcx and removed it, but the problem persists.
Can anyone help me cull this out of my machine? Hijackthis log below.
Thanks

Hi there. I'm not sure if I'm posting to the right place so apologies if there is somewhere better for this.

All of a sudden there are some websites I'm having real problems accessing. I initially thought that it might be a DNS thing, but I'm finding that I am having issues with some pages on a site but not others. And on some pages there are only some elements I can't access (e.g. some images will load and others won't)

I first noticed this in Firefox so tried clearing all my cookies, history etc, but still no luck. I then tried other browsers and find I have the same problem in IE7 and Chrome.

We have three computers in the house, 2 running Vista and one XP. My machine is a Vista one. The other Vista machine and the XP machine are not experiencing this problem at all. All machines are sharing the same wireless router.

I'm running Norton 360, and tried turning off the firewall and seeing if that fixed it, but no luck. I've run a virus scan - nothing.

One example of a page I cannot access is www.hostgator.com/shared.shtml. I can access www.hostgator.com, but not www.hostgator.com/shared.shtml.

Another is curegoutpainnow.com which is a wordpress site. On this one I can load the page (slowly) but not the header image. But if I load the admin panel or go to curegoutpainnow.com/blog/ I have no problems at all

I'm really stumped. I can't understand what might be happening. Anybody have any ideas?

Thanks
Brett

Answer:[SOLVED] Can't access certain sites (or parts of sites)

Yes it does seem very odd.
Try clearing out your files with CCleaner, and have them work on clearing out your browsers. Also when you load the page, press Ctrl + F5, to force reload the page from scratch.

When you try to access the pages you can't reach, what kind of error are you faced with? Maybe a timeout one, or page unreachable.

Well I'm on a computer upstairs with a D-Link wireless PCI card. I'm connected to a Netgear router, which a computer is directly connected to, and a laptop is connected to it wirelessly.

Now...Whenever I go to certain sites, it says "Web Site Blocked by NETGEAR Firewall".

More and more sites are getting blocked, and somehow AIM instant messenger wont work either because Its blocking that too.

I've tried proxies...but I dont know if there's something i'm doing wrong? I use Firefox but i've also tried in IE. I know it's the router...but my dad wont fix it becase he keeps putting it off. Is there any way around this? It's really aggrivating when I cant even go to sites I want. It does it randomly too.

It does it for gamestop.com, aim.com, anandtech.com, bfgtech.com, and alot of others =/ Any ideas?

Answer:Help with router blocking sites

sounds like the built in firewall is overzealous... login to your router and change some stuff around.. you should be able to find most of the important stuff on the netgear website...
Could also be something done by the parents...

to connect to netgear router...

192.168.0.1 (unless changed by whoever set it up)
Type user name and password ( look up the default on their website...) (also could be changed)
I use a linksys so I can't help you from there...

or you could try sniffing your neighbors wifi just make sure you have a software firewall up...

My router will not load certain sites. This problem started after I recently
cleaned my router (took out all of the cables, dusted everything off, etc.)
and I am sure that all of the cables are where they were before.
Google sites will load along with some other sites like facebook.
Aside from those, nothing will load and will result in the error:
www.xxxxx.com took too long to respond. - ERRCONNECTIONTIMED_OUT
Something to note is that SOMETIMES this error stops and I can access the
entirety of the internet seemingly at random after about an hour (times varry).
Another thing to note is that I cannot access my router from any of the affected
devices when the problem is active. This error also only occurrs on windows
devices. Which is strange, because the I-Pad works perfectly fine.
Below I have listed a number of things I have already tried:
Rebooting all affected devices.
- Flushing the DNS of all windows devices.
- Checking the proxy settings on all affected devices.
- Rebooting the router (several times).
- Resetting the router to factory settings.
- Complained to ISP live chat, Xfinity (no response).
P.S.
I consider myself somewhat "tech-savvey" so don't hold back on suggestions.

Answer:Router will only load certain sites.

Have you tried a system restore? A complete reinstallation of windows 10 or at least creating another user (admin user) to see if that user can connect to all websites etc?

Hi, I was working on a site on Tuesday when all of a sudden it just quit working. I could not access it but have confirmed others can. I unplugged my router and plugged my comptuer directly into the cable modem and I can connect just fine to the website. However, there is more than one person in this house, so the router is essential. I have used this website for months and months and never had one problem. Now all of a sudden, it seems as thought my router is blocking it? I have an older router DI-604 and yes I updgraded the firmware, reset it, unplugged it, restored defaults, etc. I even bought a brand new switch today but it caused the same exact problem, so it will be going back. Meanwhile I have spent hours trying to figure out the problem (and days) with no answers. Anyone have any ideas?

Ever since I installed my 2700HGV-2 modem, I no longer can access certain sites (in particular zshare.net and filesend.net). I did some research and tried lowering the MTU to 1400, 1300, 1200 but it still doesn't work. Maybe I'm doing it wrong (does changing MTU require a restart?), maybe I'm not lowering it enough, maybe those two sites are down at the moment, or maybe the problem is somewhere else. Any idea?

My landlord switched routers last week, and now my internet is driving me crazy. Sites open very slowly, if at all(usualy i have to open the site several times before it loads), then i check the router log it says: Unrecognized attempt blocked from 153.5.48.231:34239 to 86.58.13.130 TCP:46451
The thing is, that if i download anything it works at normal speed, the problem is only when opening sites.
The router is a Level One FBR-1413TX and firmware version is R1.96j34

I'm fairly sure it's the router causing the problem, but i may be mistaken.

Any suggestions for a solution?

I have 3 computers going through a router to a modem, and my question is can the router block my computers from going to sertain sites? I ask this because for some odd reason all of my computers on this network cannot get to a couple of diffrent websites, such as google and hotmail. If it is the router (which I doubt) how can i fix this? If it isnt, any ideas what it might be?

Answer:Can going through a router block internet sites?

If your router has a built in firewall then you could try disabling it. Also, make sure you have the latest firmware for your router. Check you haven't got some kind of virus/spyware that prevents you from accessing certain websites (though i dont think it's likely). Finally, check your browser compatibility.

I have shared a wireless router with 5 other people for over a year and have been been able to connect and use the internet with my laptop.

Now however even though everyone else can use the internet I cannot. I connect to it and get an excellent signal but cannot even access google. So currently I am having to use a unsecured network connection elsewhere in the area.

Our router is set up to take 20 so there is more than enough. If I choose auto ip I cannot connect with our router (which I could before) now I have to put in the proper ip then it will mostly work.

So if anyone has any ideas it would be much appreciated. I tried in another forum but in the end nobody could figure it out, here are some results from some instructions I was asked to follow involving ipconfig etc.

I installed a Linksys 4 port Router on my T-1 line so I could get high speed internet access on my Laptop and Desktop simultaniously. I entered the static IP addresses on both computers and got it to all work. But then I realized the laptop can't access secure websites, you know, the ones that begin with "HTTPS"?

The laptop is an IBM Thinkpad running windows 98 and IE 6.0. Cookies are enabled, I reset the defaults under Tools\Internet options\Advanced and I don't have a firewall or anti-virus software running.

The Desktop computer is running Windows ME and it works fine.

Answer:Installed Router- Now can't get on HTTPS sites.

Start by comparing the settings in Tools / options / security and also Content in IE with those that are set on the desktop PC to see if there are any major differences.

If it weren't for the fact that the Me machine is working I would suspect that the port that https uses is blocked on the router. Both should be using port 443 as far as I know, but if one of the OS is using something different that could explain why one works and the other doesn't.

Network includes two PCs and one wireless laptop, all using Windows XP. Router is Linksys WRT54GS with the latest firmware. Access Restrictions is disabled. Everything works fine, EXCEPT cannot access www.qsl.net, which is a ham radio related site. Also, there are a few other sites I know about that won't work. None of the three computers can access www.qsl.net. It's not a DNS issue. I know that qsl.net is working; I can access it with an older (wired) Linksys BEFSR41. Even with the WRT54GS, I can access it through an anonymous web hosting site. Its not an issue with my browser (Internet Explorer); I've tried Firefox and Opera; same result. Not a problem with my hosts file, either. Just tried the latest version of the WRT54GS, and the problem remains. I have contacted Linksys tech support and they could not figure out a solution.

ISP is SBC (DSL). They have no solution, either.

Any brave souls with any ideas?

With thanks.

What would be blocking one set of websites? With AOL and IE7 or 8 beta, I can't go to any websites for the SF49ers. I can go to it in safe mode, and on other machines. I can even ping the websites with a round trip or 114ms or right around there, but none of the browsers will open the pages. What am I missing? The comp is running XP SP3, and used to be able to go to the sites before my parents got hit with the Anti-virus 2009 bug. I am pretty sure I have taken care of that, but now I have this issue.

Answer:cant open some sites

I have had this happen also with one website. Might be your router, try this..........
If you have not done this previously, back up the the way the router is setup, you should be able to do this by accessing the router via your browser. Then reset the router to factory defaults. Turn the power off to the router and power down the PC. Restart everything and try the web site. If that works , restore the backup configuration to the router(you may have to power everything off again) and try the web site again.

IE8 fails to open some general sites like nokia.com, vodafone.in or indianrail.gov.in
It throws an error "Internet Explorer cannot open the webpage"
however, it works well with most of the other sites.

I have tried a lot to fix the problem, but couldnt succeed.

Answer:IE8 can not open all sites

Hello avinash42,

Here are 3 options to try.
1. Try enabling compatibility mode. It is the broken page icon next to the refresh button on the toolbar.

2.If that doesn’t work, run IE in No Add-ons Mode.
-->Go to Start
--> All Programs
--> Accessories
--> System Tools
--> Internet Explorer (No Add-ons) –
If this fixes the issue, then go to Tools- -> Manage Add-ons and enable the add-ons one by one to find which one was causing the problem.

You can also try resetting Internet Explorer's settings by going to
--> Tools
-- > Internet Options and then the "Advanced" tab, and click "Reset..."

If you’re still not having any luck, I recommend you reinstall IE8 on your system.
Good Luck

When I type in an address or the name of a site I want to go to I get this message:

Your AOL software has encountered a problem. We are automatically restarting your AOL software to bring you back on line.

Sometimes it does go back on line but other times I get this message:

AOL was unable to automatically restart. AOL has closed and must be restarted.

Some of the time after typing in address or name of site I get the pages with all the different sites listed for me to choose from. But, when I click on the link of the site I want the above same thing happens to me.

AND>>>>When I go to AOL Help I get Error 502 message.

Someone please help!

Thank you!

Answer:Web Sites - Won't open

Have you tried uninstalling, then reinstalling the AOL software?

First post so I hope I'm following protocol.
Searched this forum with no joy and spent an hour paging through posts.
I have on my PC Win 7 running IE 8.
This is a new Pc that I built. All has run really well until a few days ago when from nowhere IE would not allow numerous sites to open. They take forever to get up and mostly just time out. Some will eventually open but are incomplete and not workable.
The majority of sites that I go to work just fine.
It may be coincidental but none of the newspaper sites that I visit regularly will open.
I have run a full scan with CA (my main security) Run a full scan with Malawarebytes, and put Advance System Care through its paces. All have come up clear.
I loaded Firefox but it does exactly the same thing.
does anyone have any ideas please?

Forgot to mention that every time I load MS Silverlight onto the system Windows freezes after being idol for 10mins or so and requires a reboot. I have taken Silverlight off.

Answer:IE8 won't allow certain sites to open

It's most likely not IE8 but the updated malwarebytes that's stopping you opening sites. It's been a huge issue over the past couple of months.

I ended up getting rid of it becuase I couldn't find the setting to turn it of..it so bad it thinks Mickey Mouse is a danger

Answer:can not open some web sites

Sounds like charter won't let you run on someone else's server.

You are going to have to stick with checking mail via the web, or if Charter has their own log in page.

Hi,

IE8 will not open certain websites. Don't see any pattern to it. Many open fine, but some just give me the gray screen.

FF and Chrome open them fine.

Have tried the usual reset settings and start with no add-ons etc. but it hasn't worked.

Here's HJT log - if you see anything that could cause that?

Today, for no apparent reason, I was unable to get access to certain web site or get updates from windows, avg, etc. My computer does seem a little slower also.

I have spent the day trying to resolve this. It is not a problem with internet options or firewalls, it is the same for various browsers and I have scanned for trojans and root kits and found nothing. I have even reformatted and still have the same problem.
I was using xp sp3 and am now on sp2.

I also no next to nothing about computers so it could be something rather obvious that I have missed but I haven't found any help on the net so far. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Answer:Certain web sites won't open

Try flushing the Modem/router? . Pull out the power cable from the back and leave it out for 3 minutes.

I have a strange problem on my network that just began a few days ago. I cannot access any websites ending in .edu in the state of North Carolina. I can access university sites out of this state though. Became aware of this since my wife checks email from a university website. We have two computers and neither will connect. I've tried re-setting the router and pinged the sites which always times out. I'm out of ideas. Any help would be great.

Answer:Cannot open .edu sites

Are you pinging them by name or IP address? try both. If it works by IP address but not by name, you have a DNS issue.

Answer:cannot open some sites

You should have a Mozilla Firefox (Safe Mode) shortcu t in your Start Menu, try that and load a problem site. If it still crashes, you either have a corrupted profile, or a damaged extension - uninstall the extensions one by one and keep trying. Export your bookmarks. Fixing or renewing the profile is a bit more involved but not difficult.

Does anyone know WHY this type of this would happen? This happened to me about 10 months ago, described in this post: http://www.computing.net/answers/se... Never figured out the exact cause, the problem just went away after a few days. For a summary of the last query: I live in Thailand and have wi-fi included with my place. I don't have an outlet for ethernet cable. Normally my internet is fine, and just like in my last posting from January, I haven't made any changes to my own computer settings. My computer still connects to all sites fine when I'm at work or other wi-fi-enabled places. It's just suddenly a problem at home again, for the last 3 days. It's not browser-specific. Luckily, like last time, Yahoo Mail is still working (after an initial period of not working). Don't know what that implies about the security of Yahoo Mail. If I wanted to talk to my landlord about it...she's not very tech-y and her English is poor. Could the quick solution be as simple as turning the router off and on again? Or are there settings that need to be fixed? I honestly don't know if last time she did something to fix the router, or if the problem just went away by itself...never asked.Anyone know what the CAUSE might be for a router to suddenly stop connecting to any https sites?

Answer:Sometimes router stops connecting to secure sites?

Hey again sorry to see your back, yes please try turning off the router and the reset button (a small hole at the back of router). Please reply and let us know if our help worked. Your feedback helps others. Maybe you?

I need to host 4 different Web sites, each with their own external static IP. I'm looking for suggestions regarding dual WAN Routers. Any experiences, good or bad, would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Answer:Router Recommendations For Hosting Multiple Web Sites

Need more complete info. Dual WAN routers meaning you want to connect to two different Internet Service providers? Or are you trying to double the bandwidth?

How, in your mind, are the separate IP addresses linked to how you configure the router(s) to connect to the Internet?

What type of connection are you planning to use, and what type of equipment are you considering?

Redundancy is great when it works as it should, but the equipment needed to make it work as it should, is not cheap. To do it right you're looking at more than a 1000 US dollars. If you don't plan to do it right, then it will likely cause more problems than it's worth.

Hi all,

I am new to this forum, hope I am posting this right.

I have a hp laptop which has Windows Vista Home prem, and a desktop with Window XP SP3, both have AVAST.

The Problem.

This started a few weeks, I am unable to access some websites on my laptop which is connected via wifi to my belkin router. The websites are general websites like "BUSINESSINSIDER" or " Wiki Answers", some forum, they are like normal website but some others like yahoo, youtube, streeteasy, realtor.com work fine but zillow doesn't come up. I usually use Opera browser which displays
the message :
" Could not locate remote server"

Chrome displays:

" Unable to access the network"

Error 21 (net::ERR_NETWORK_CHANGED): A network change was detected.

But most other websites work fine on the same wifi connection.

When I hardwire my laptop to the router or while using the desktop everything works fine all the websites work.

I have tried turning of the Web shield and network shield on the laptop when connected via wifi but no go.

Could really use some help and thank you for taking your time to read through this.

P.S: Please ask if you need additional info,

I have a new Dell that came with, what I assume is, the latest version of Internet Explorer. Often, but not always, when I go to web sites, I cannot open links within the sites. Sometimes when this happens, I can right-click and open a link with the "Open" or "Open in new window" command, but at other times I'm not even given that option (those commands are greyed-out). Often it seems I can open the first link I try on a particular web site but then none after that.  I am running Windows XP and have DSL.

Answer:cannot open links on web sites

Pegi, Very strange issue you've got going on here. I've never heard of anything like this and was unable to find anything about this type of issue occurring. My only suggestion would be to go through all the basic troubleshooting steps for Microsoft Internet Explorer. On my computer at work with windows 7 on it IE9 and Firefox isn?t working anymore on certain websites (i.e. email website will not go to the log in page I?ve tried a few different sites). After loading for a while it will go to a blank white page. I?ve tried some simple IE9 troubleshooting such as deleting browsing history, resetting IE9, uninstalling and going back to IE8 and it still has the same problems, turning off all firewalls and virus protection, I looked for a virus by downloading two new viruses detecting software?s (bit defender and Kaspersky). I thought it could be a problem with logging on to the part of the web site that will use encrypted information. But I can log on to a banking site or other sites where I log in and it works. So I think maybe now it could be trouble logging into sites that use pop3 servers. Another kicker to this problem is that Google chrome dose work on these web sites but it takes longer than normal. Also my laptop hooked up to the same router works without a problem. Last idea I had was a sector of my ram is bad and has created a problem with a .dill with the windows software. Any ideas or help would be great thanks

I am really struggling with this computer, wondering where the malware could be hiding that is causing new tabs to open with (mostly gambling sites) in FF. I load FF, open a site, and now and then get a new tab open up with the rogue site in focus.

This computer has been infected with IS2010.exe and IS15.exe plus several others. However, scanners such as MBAM and MSE have seemingly removed all bad files and I cannot get any of about 6 scanners (Trojan Remover, MSE, Trend Micro Housecall, MBAM, SuperAntispyware and Combofix) to find any infections at all. I've also run CCleaner and ATF.

Basically, I have reluctantly written this installation off as it can't be trusted but I am curious as to the mechanism that could be causing the rogue page loads.

Thanks for any insights.

TDSS killer found and removed rootkit files so it is 'probably' fixed but still hard to trust it.IMPORTANT NOTE about: TDSS/TDL3 rootkit.Rootkits, backdoor Trojans, Botnets, and IRCBots are very dangerous because they compromise system integrity by making changes that allow it to be used by the attacker for malicious purposes. Rootkits are used by Trojans to conceal its presence (hide from view) in order to prevent detection of an attacker's software and make removal more difficult. Many rootkits can hook into the Windows 32-bit kernel, and patch several APIs to hide new registry keys and files they install. They can disable your anti-virus and security tools to prevent detection and removal. Remote attackers use backdoors as a means of accessing and taking control of a computer that bypasses security mechanisms. This type of exploit allows them to steal sensitive information like passwords, personal and financial data which is send back to the hacker. I have a computer on a domained network, running Windows 7 Pro, IE 11.  When I try to open HTTPS sites, it says to check the web address.  I can log onto the domain on the same computer as the administrator and the same HTTPS sites open correctly.  I thought it may be an issue with the user profile so I unjoined the domain, rejoined the domain, rebuilt the user profile, and same thing.  I removed AV and turned off firewall to see if this made any difference, it didn't.  Any ideas as to what could be causing this?

Answer:IE 11 won't open HTTPS sites

Check the time and date on the computer in question. Try using compatibility mode in IE for those websites.

Apparent virus tries to open and direct browser to random sites. Example of unrequested site is jikdooyt0.com. Virus also causes current browser session to close although it does then recover. Copies of DDS and Hijackthis are included below. Could not get the other program to run because it was blocked by my Trend Micro, which I cannot seem to disable. The Attach file is attached. Thanks for help.

Why does it take some sites so long to open? Is there something wrong with my computer or is it just that site? Seems like so many times I want to go somewhere in a hurry I get the moving circle forever before the site opens.

Answer:Sites take too long to open

Run your anti virus and malwarebytes as I suggested in your other thread. Make sure that you have sufficient memory
and
Run for 8 passes.
Then test each stick in a good slot for 6 passes.
If you have dual channel, the results may be incorrect, if shows pass.

Hi, i've had this problem for awhile. My PC won't connect to fragtv.net or guildwiki.org. For some reason it just loads for awhile and then says the connection was reset. I know it's nothing like parental controls or anything like that. I did try going to these sites on another computer on my network and it loads up both of them just fine. These are the only 2 websites that it does this too, actually it does it to overclock.net as well.

Now, i have reformatted since this and it still does not connect. I've tried IE and Firefox, both with the same results. I have upgraded to the newest version of both browsers and it still does it. Can anyone help me with this? I've also tried downloading and installing plug ins and such with no luck. What's wrong with my browsers?

Answer:Web Browser's won't Open certain sites

Are you behind any software firewalls? If so disable them, and try again.

On a side note, did you try to browse via IP instead of the FDN?

For instance, pinging fragtv.net gives: 88.83.64.34

So, in the browser address bar, type in: 88.83.64.34 press enter. Is this any faster?

This is driving me nuts! Suddenly a few days ago, I was unable to open certain websites on either Firefox 3.5 or IE 8. I'm running XP Pro on my laptop and the puzzling element here is that the majority of sites are fine. All my FF bookmarks open and, for example Yahoo Sports will open, but ESPN.com will not. Connection either times out or I get the dreaded The connection was reset-The connection to the server was reset while the page was loading. There are numerous similar examples, but no trend or pattern is apparent as to which sites will open and which will not--but it's always the same sites that time out.

I have reset Firefox (reset user preferences to default), disabled all my add-ons, and temporarily disabled my antivirus program (Avast). I've confirmed Firefox is an exception on the Windows Firewall--all to no avail. I've run Malwarebytes, Spybot and Adaware with no malware found. I'm out of ideas!

I've seen and attempted a number of fixes from numerous forums, with no joy. Can anyone assist?

Thanks
