limited or no connectivity ics nic wifi usb modem

Question: limited or no connectivity ics nic wifi usb modem

Hello, I have been using a nic and ics to share my usb modem internet with my xbox via ethernet cable.

I have recently installed a wifi dongle to use as an access point to share the same usb internet with a smartphone.

But now my first connection has limited or no connectivity... Can I share the same internet with them both?

If not how do I switch ics between them as I can't get my original local area connection back to using the ics?

Im using xp sp3

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: limited or no connectivity ics nic wifi usb modem

Can I share the same internet with them both?Click to expand...

My guess is "no" but that's only a guess. Let's take a quick look at ...

Open a (black) Command Prompt window:
Hold the Windows logo key and press r; in the Run box type cmd and click on OK.

Type the following command:

IPCONFIG /ALL

[Note that there is no space between the slash and ALL.]

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter.
Paste the results in a message here.

If necessary use a text file and removable media to copy the results to a computer with internet access.

Hey guys I just had hughesnet sattelite internet sysyem installed today (my only high speed option in the country) The locar area connection status is limtied or no connectivity that installer said the IP address was wrong and tried to renew it but to no avail. When I click on the repair button I get told that "renewing your IP address could not be completed" So I wnt in and tried to enter the IP address manually but All I have is the IP address and the subnet mask. When I did that I got a little pop-up that said your local area connection is now connected I thought that was great but when I tried to get online with IE I still got nothing. So I changed everything back to automatic, I will post the IPconfig. Please let me know if anyone can make heads or tails out of my problem. I can't take dial up anymore.

Note: this is the Automatic IP address not the one that the installer gave me on the important numbers card.

Please Help.

I just installed a cable modem from Comast (D-Link DCM-202).

I ran it into a four port switch and then back to computer number one. Everything works great.

I plugged in a second computer, and the second computer says "Limited or No Connectivity". I pinged the second computer and nothing.

I called Comcast and all they told me is that they are a dynamic ip addres.

What should I do?

Thanks

Answer:Limited or no connectivity CABLE MODEM

I think you can only have 1 IP address per modem. I understand you are using a switch. I do not think that this is what you should use. Try plugging in the disconnected directly to router and unplug the connected PC. The other PC should now get connected. Since this happens, you will need a ROUTER with NAT. This will allow the two PC's to share one IP address from the modem. If one PC has to NIC Cards, you can also use ICS, but a router would be best.

So the Wireless Network Connection tab on my computer says it only has limited connectivity to my wifi. It was working perfectly fine just a few days ago. My mother's laptop connects just fine to our wifi. We tried taking the laptop out to my mom's work and it wouldn't connect to the wifi there either and also said it had limited connectivity while everyone else's devices worked. Why is this?

I have an issue with my laptop that I am utterly baffled by. If anybody could help me solve it, I'd much appreciate it. I have an HP 17-e020dx running Windows 8 which I purchased two years ago. Until recently I lived abroad and had limited internet so in the two yrs I had this laptop abroad, I believe I ran Windows Update maybe only two times. Upon returning stateside, I set about updating everything from Windows Update. Everything was fine, the only issue being that it didn't seem my laptop could update to 8.1 despite being prompted to do so. A couple of weeks later we had a power outage and I used the laptop until the battery died and then turned the laptop back on when the power came back. When the laptop turned on, that was when I discovered that the wifi connection was limited despite working on all other devices. I googled around and tried a few solutions to no avail before trying a system restore which seemed to do the trick. I thought nothing of it after that until the issue came up again a few weeks later, probably when I restarted the laptop, only this time system restore didn't fix the problem. Eventually I got frustrated enough and decided to reformat the whole computer because I'd read some articles that suggested one of the updates caused this which seemed to make sense to me since I never had this connectivity problem abroad (when I hadn't run Update) . After reformatting the computer I never ran Windows Update. In fact I turned it off. For approximately two we... Read more

By format, do you mean you used the System Restore  partition to reinstall the operating system or used a HP installation disc to install the operating system?

If you did either of these you should have the proper network drivers you need.

Look in the Device Manager and see if there are any yellow warning icons under Network Adapters.

Hello.

I just got a Satellite M60, and I'm having a limited or no connectivity when I try to connect to the internet through my Cable Modem through the LAN.
OS is WIN XP Home SP2 PTG and I've restored the original instalation, but nothing seems to work.
Can anybody help?

Thanks

Answer:Satellite M60: Limited or no connectivity with Cable Modem

Hi

What do you mean by ?limited connectivity??
Did you check the system for any viruses and worms?
On the other hand the enabled anti-virus software can make your data flow slowly or enabled. Furthermore you check the lan cable for some curtsies.

Hello guys!

I hope you can help me with my problem.

See I bought this Belkin N modem router (Model: F5D8633-4) to replace my wired networking devices and add wireless capability to my network as well.

for the XP and Vistax64 laptops, i had no problem whatsoever with the WiFi but I was having the problematic "Limited or No Connectivity" on the desktop I use as a media server after several shutdowns. It's on Win7 x86 RTM.

I already updated the Belkin device's firmware and also the LAN driver the desktop is using.

thanks in advanced

Answer:Belkin Modem Router + Win 7 x86 limited connectivity

Could it be the adaptor?

If you use a usb belkin adaptor, plug it out and plug it back in,worked on mine along with updating the software for the usb.

Hi there,

So I believe I have caught a trojan somewhere online that is impossible to get rid of.  What it basically does is at random times limit my internet connectivity to a very very reduced speed or remove it altogether.  Sometimes the yellow caution triangle appears over my wifi logo on my taskbar, but sometimes it limits my internet without that sign even appearing.  Internet becomes unusable, as I have to keep disconnecting and reconnecting to load whatever I'm doing.

I tried a full factory system restore, the problem went away for a few days and conveniently came back.  I cannot get rid of it.  The only fix I know as of now is to connect directly to modems through ethernet cables, but I cannot do that everywhere I go (I travel a lot). Then again, this is something fairly new I tried, I don't know if it's a complete fix either (small sample size).

The thing is I've tried troubleshooting this problem before (going through hundreds of forums for similar problems), where the fix worked for a few days, but ultimately came back.  I've been very very careful with everything I do on my computer since, but the problem still came back.  I have Windows 10, and no antivirus program at the moment (used to have AVG, just haven't added one since my last factory restore).

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

My wifi keeps dropping after 30 min and giving me a wifi limited connectivity problem: DNS server not responding upon troubleshooting the problem. I have an ASUS notebook 8 months old came pre-installed with Windows 8.1 and with Qualcomm Atheros Wifi Adapter and I use my neighbor's WLAN router to connect to wifi. Sometimes I use the library. My wife has a macbook and has never had a problem at either of these locations. So the router seems to be working perfectly with her computer. If my neighbor's wifi gives me limited signal, my wife keeps surfing away--very frustrating. I do however just use my Android wifi and this magically works when I am getting a limited through the neighbor's WLAN router. Although I have had this Android wifi also cut off on my PC; point being my computer loses wifi and my wife's macbook never does with all these exact same connections.

Before my factory refresh, I was only losing wifi maybe once a day; however I could often trapped after a limited wifi signal not be able to re-connect without multiple re-starts of my computer and DNS refreshes. I could surf online for 8-10 hours, then all of a sudden it wouldn't work. Now it is more like 30 minutes. Either way, there is a major problem with wifi limited connectivity and my neighbor's router. But as I said, my wife's macbook works perfectly and it is actually 9 years old. My PC is 8 months old and can't even connect to wifi. Whats wrong with windows 8.1?

Hello PCR, hope we are all keeping well.

I have a bit of an issue regarding my laptop computer.

I have recently started using it again after not doing so for 3-4 months.

The issue I have, is that it can't connect to my home network. It just says it has a limited connection. I am using windows vista and even re-formatted the HD to see if that would fix the problem, which hasnt resolved anything!

The wifi in the house is fine, I am using another computer now which is connected to it via wifi. I bought an ipad today and that also has no issues connecting to it...

Im not sure what else to do, i have spent a lot of time reading forums but i still cant sort it out.

Thanks

Answer:Limited Connectivity to my wifi network

Hey G~Man, are you able to connect to other networks using the laptop? It doesn't look like a config problem if you've re-formatted, but it could be a driver problem - are you using latest drivers?

The only other thing I can think of would be to temporarily change the router WiFi security, perhaps to an unsecured connection (only for a few mins while you test) and see if it can connect and gain full network access then.

I recently moved to a new apartment where I share an internet connection. Since I got here, I've been having repeated 'limited connectivity' errors on my WiFi connection. Whenever I get these errors, the troubleshooter 'fixes' the problem after resetting the adapter, but it continually comes back -- even more frequently when downloading or streaming something.

I've tried everything I can think of:

- Relocated the modem/router thinking there may be an issue of location
- Reset the router several times
- Updated the driver for the wireless adapter
- Changed the power settings for the computer
- Tweaked the wireless properties by enabling/disabling ipV6
- Reset winsock through command prompt

I have the Realtek PCle GBE Family Controller and running Windows 8 Pro. I really don't know what else to try. My tablet runs off the same connection just fine, but I simply cannot stay connected. Literally, there are times when I lose connectivity once every couple minutes, where other times it might go a couple hours. Thanks in advance for any assistance you folks can give!

Answer:Repeated Limited Connectivity on WiFi

Share a connection? You mean with another apartment or the building? Could be the shared AP that's causing the problem.

Just bought a new router - netgear n750. Laptop wifi worked fine with previous router that went bad.  All other devices now work with new router (ps3, ipad, kindle, netbook). But, laptop internet only worked hard wired to router. Wireless it says "limited connectivity" and something about the gateway.  I have googled and tried much. Reinstalled adapter drivers.  Many posts said to update direct from intel, but it is not an intel adapter. It is qualcom.  Redid that from the lenovo site.  What is the deal?  So frustrating! Oh, when you run the fix it thing it ends up saying something about the gateway.

Answer:g500 has "limited connectivity" no wifi

I would suggest you update your G500 wireless drivers

Hi

Hope you can help.

I'm on holiday and booked a villa which had complimentary WIFI. I'm able to connect to the unsecured public network. The signal strength is good and I know I'm connected as the duration of time keeps increasing.

However when I try and access the internet I get the message that I have Limited Connectivity. I run the diagnostic tool and am told there is an issue with the IP address.

Does anyone have any idea how to resolve this as I desperately need my laptop so I can work whilst on holiday.

Any help would be gratefully received.

You may need to remove wireless profiles (see below) and reconnect to the secure network - it will also mean at home when you return you will need to re-enter your wireless security key

would you post back an ipconfig /all

I assume the villa complimentary WIFI is secure - have you entered the correct KEY - and do you know the type of security used ?

If possible download and install and run this xirrus program - and tell us the Name of the villa wireless

For the past 2/3 weeks my wifi connectivity has become 'limited' within a few minutes of turning my laptop on or if i move it in the slightest, I use it in the same room all the time and never used to have this problem. I've tried refreshing my computer, tried looking into the network adapter, doing a command prompt, running the network diagnostics (all from google and such) but every time I try anything my laptop freezes and I have to force a shutdown, it's becoming a real annoyance to have to constantly restart my computer. If there is anything you can suggest I do, please help and let me know!

Hi,

I don't know how but all of a sudden I faced this issue whereby when connected through modem directly I am getting limited or no connectivity and can't acces interent. However when connected through Phone adapter( Internet cable to modem-->modem-->phone adapter-->computer) I am getting good connection.

Don't knwo what went wrong ,but now I want my laptop to get directly connected through modem. pls help

I tried manually setting the IP address ( I ran ipconfig , when connected through phone adapter, that is when I was connected , copied the ip address, default gateway, subnet mask and connection suffix and then changed the setup by connecting laptop directly to Modem , then manually assigned the ip address, default gateway, subnet mask and connection suffix obtained from above steps) but this also didn't help.

I have a windows XP, but don't know if it has SP2 . I never applied any patch. How to know if its SP2 or not ( if that is the cause of the problem)

I read at one of the forums "http://www.wirelessforums.org/ " and change the Ethernet cable from WAN to one of the port, I saw only limited connectivity.

In system event log I see this message.
"The IP address lease 192.168.88.100 for the Network Card with network address 00E07D001893 has been denied by the DHCP server 192.168.0.1 (The DHCP Server sent a DHCPNACK message). "

I have solid internet lights.

I like to know if anyone in this forum has successfully setup.

Answer:DLink DI-514 limited or no connectivity with speedstream 4100 modem

I was able to fix the problem.
The problem was with router and modem have same DHCP IP.

1. I connected my D-Link DI514 router LAN port to PC VIA cable(wired). Modify the LAN port from 192.168.0.1 --> 192.169.0.1 saved the new settings.
2. Connect the cable from Ethernet port of modem to WAN port on DI-514 router.
2. Then set PPPOE setting username/password.

And you ready to surf.

Hello,  I wanted to clear some issues about my HP Pavilion laptop, I have searched online and most things havent worked for me, I have realised that my wifi usually goes to limited connectivity when either I take my laptop off my lap and place onto my bed (perhaps its because the fans cannot push the hot air out because they are being blocked?) and when I put my charger in. To temporarily fix this I have been going onto the "Network and Sharing Centre" and disabling and re-enabling my wifi, however sometimes I have noticed that I disable it and when I try to re-enable it stays as disabled so.. I hope someone from the support team can help me out, thanks.

I'm having a really annoying problem which is making my laptop almost unusable and a hassle to use. My wireless network adapter will suddenly get "limited connectivity", won't connect to the internet but will still get the router.

Disabling and then enabling it will cause my computer to freeze, requiring a hard restart. The same with troubleshooting. The only thing which fixes this is a fresh reboot, however it then occurs again within the hour.

Answer:Wifi gets limited connectivity and freezes when troubleshooted

the ipconfig /all tends to disagree with the errro message

do a tcp/ip reset - see below

whats the status of the driver - install the latest one from the PC manufacture - whats the make and model of the PC

does that pc work ok anywhere on a wireless network

Is this the only PC that disconnects - do other devices connected work OK - if so how are they connected to the router - wireless or wired

would you post the following tests when the internet is working OK, and then repeat ALL the tests when the internet disconnects.
Make sure you also indicate on the reply which tests are for what condition.

please include the xirrus screen shots for both conditions - see how below.

Please post back here the make and exact model of the router and if you have a separate modem, the make and exact model of the modem.

Please make a note of the status of the lights on the modem and on the router when working normally - post that light status here.
Now when the internet disconnects make a note of the status of the lights for the modem and router here again. also note which have changed.

What firewall / security suite or anti-virus do you currently have on the PC - or you have ever had on the PC in the past - any trial ware - like Norton, kaspersky or Mcafee or any free security suites like zonealarm, AVG , Webroot etc

lets see the following please

Open PowerShell or command line and type the following command in the shell console window: netsh wlan show all Hit enter and poste the output here... It's better to use the PowerShell for easier copying. But if you never worked with this shell maybe the normal cmd shell is the better choice.

Hello all!My laptop Wi-Fi has recently stopped connecting to my home Wi-Fi, it always is in a perpetual state of limited. It can connect to other networks, but not the home network. Our cellphones and other computers/devices all can still connect to the home network. I have tried reset Tc settings and winsock. I also disabled and uninstalled my Wi-Fi drivers. I unplugged the router. Literally all of the fixes on the internet and support websites have failed. I even went as far as to totally reboot my laptop back to factory settings and it still will not connect to my home Wi-Fi. Does anyone have any other ideas??

Hi. I'm having issues with my modem. Anyways, the problem started when I purchased a Linksys Wrt54G router.

I was connecting to the internet using LAN/ethernet okay. I tried setting up a wifi connection in my home using the linksys wrt54g router. Everything was working fine until after two days when I suddenly can't connect to the internet on my linksys. I tried to directly connect my modem through the ethernet to check if the problem was with my ISP. LAN says limited or no connectivity. I tried plugging the modem through my laptop, I found out that my laptop can connect to the internet using ethernet so the problem was not with my ISP. I had to reset my linksys router and set it up all over again. Wifi connection was okay again.

After three days, I can't get any connection again. I tried directly connecting the modem again to my laptop to check but my laptop says limited or no connectivity. I tried connecting directly to the ethernet on my PC, it says limited or no connectivity again. I tried resetting the Linksys router again and set up my connection again (hoping against hope) and miraculously, I was able to connect.

Now there seems to be a problem with my LAN connections both on my PC and laptop and it seems that only my linksys router can communicate with my modem (everytime I had to do a reset). I tried reseting tcp stack, etc. But my LAN connection is still limited or no connectivity. Any help would be appreciated.

BTW, my modem is a motorola surf... Read more

Very difficult to determine how to help you. The only information you have given us is that you have a laptop and network/freezing problems. We need some information about the system, the laptop model, and the laptop manufacturer.

Hi Am having connectivity issues on my laptop. I live next door to my father and use his BT Home Hub connection, all my other devices work fine but the HP laptop is causing endless issues. It works for a bit then gets limited and so on. Why is this problem so common on theses laptops, shouldn't this be one issue that should be focused from a products point of view as laptop is pointless without it, mind boggles when a company like HP has this problem. Really getting annoyed with this product. Thanks Mo Jogee

It is due feeble net connection.
Do you share the same WiFi with other devices ?

I can connect to my home wireless (on it now) and the last time I was at Chick-Fil-A near home I could connect. But, yesterday I was out of town and was trying to connect to an Open Network and got the "Connected" but Limited/No Connectivity message. I purchased a new Windows 8, Inspiron 15 7000 series - 7537 last December. I had been using a router at a hotel for the time, and it worked correctly. When I arrived home, I had a Belkin router, and i experienced network issues in that i could not connect to the wifi. I could connect with Ethernet cable. The problem was fixed through customer support eventually, but I now have a new Comcast router, and i'm experiencing what appears to be the same or a similar issue. I can access the internet fine by wire. With wifi, it says i have access to the internet over the internet icon in the bottom right, but i cannot access webpages. I can use skype, and communicate through it.

I recently purchased a Pavilion 17t at Costco. Overall, I'm liking the  computer. But it has one major issue, that is unacceptable for a laptop computer. The wifi keeps not working. I haven't found a pattern to this either. I will be connected to my wifi network, and then suddenly the internet will stop working. It still shows connected to the router, but can't reach the internet. I have contacted HP support twice about this now, and their solution has not resolved the issue. The BIOS has been updated, the driver has been updated, Windows 10 has been updated, the wireless driver has been uninstalled and reinstalled. I still have the issue. If I attempt a restart when this happens, the restart takes a very, very long time. I've clocked it at 2 minutes before I did a manual power button restart on it. But the restart issue seems to happen every time the wifi issue happens(assuming I do a restart). I've tried turning the wifi off and on, and that proves difficult. It will often turn back on as soon as I turn it off, or not respond at all to my attempts. If I connect a wired connection to the laptop, I am able to connect to the internet again. All other devices on the wireless router will continue to work fine when this computer does not. What would be my next steps to try and resolve this issue? What more information might you need from me? HP Pavilion 17-g133-cl

Answer:WiFi limited connectivity issues (Intel AC 3165)

(Edits: Add product and OS info, correct a few grammatical mistakes. Add the "Click 'OK'" step.) Alright, I've been all over the internet trying to fix this as I had the same experience. I've found a solution and I signed up on these forums just to post it. This problem has been a nightmare and I wanted to share. My machine is also the HP Pavilion 17 G1337-CL, which has the Intel(R) Dual Band Wireless ac3165. (I did make one hardware change by swapping out the HDD for an SSD) The problem that I had was produced by Windows power management system. When I went just a few minutes without accessing the internet it would close down. I could have a browser window open, but if I was not actively sending or receiving data, the connection would shut down. This is the two part solution (Windows 10): PART 1Right-click windows start menuSelect "Device Manager"Open the "Network adapters" drop downRight-click "Inter(R) Dual Band Wireless AC-3165"Select "Properties"Select "Power Management" tabUncheck "Allow computer to turn off this device to save power"Click "Ok" PART 2Right-click "RealTek PCIe FE Family Controller"Select "Properties"Select "Power Management" tabUncheck "Allow computer to turn off this device to save power"Click "Ok" Restart the computer (don't know if it is necessary, but I always restart) That fixed it for me. I had found Part 1 on a number of forums, but I had to figure out Part 2 on my own. I have been connected to the inte... Read more

Answer:Why does it say limited connectivity on my laptop with windows 10 and I can't connect to wifi?

If your on a normal internet subscription eg at&t or Verizon you could reset your router.
If your using your phone as a hotspot to connect your pc make sure your data hasn't run out and or your phone has credit/phone bill has been paid.
Also you could restart your pc.

Hi,

I just bought a Sony Vaio with Intel Wireless WiFi Link 5100 Network Adapter.

I primarily use the notebook at my home & office network.
Home Network Router: Linksys WRT54G
Office Network Router: Beetel 450BXi (ADSL2+Modem)

The issue am facing is while am on to the network (mostly home network) suddenly it goes into limited connectivity & gets disconnected; while other PC's remain connected.

And then you have to either re-install the Wireless LAN driver or re-start numerous times.

This has been happening regularly. Pls assist in resolving the issue.

This is driving me mad. I've been through multiple forums/Intel's support site/Dell's support site/Microsoft's support site...and nobody seems to have a straight solution.

My new laptop came with Windows 8 pre-installed. I updated all drivers from Dell's website and installed the latest Intel PROSet WIFI drivers v15.6.0.0. I have not installed any anti-virus software and I don't see any installed by Dell. I'm not using any extra firewall software beyond the native windows one and I have not changed it;s configuration. Any software out there that can scan your PC for A-V and/or firewall issues?

None of my other devices have any connectivity issues at all. If I use an Ethernet cable the laptop works perfectly so it's definitely a WIFI issue.

I've disabled the Bluetooth adapter and the Ethernet adapter so that only the WIFI adapter is left enabled. I've tried disabling the Intel drivers and just using Windows to connect. I've tried using fixed IP address instead of DHCP. I've reset the router...basically I've tried all of the obvious things. I also tried the suggestions to use command line instruction to reset the IP stack/etc...but they had no effect.
I feel like it's the drivers themselves. Should I remove the Intel drivers completely?

Answer:Win8 Intel WIFI limited connectivity / invalid IP config

Welcome to the forum Rob.

Do the other systems have WiFi working because according to your ipconfig/all you aren't picking up anything from the router here.

When you reset the router, did you hold down the hidden button on the side for 30 seconds or did you just reboot the router?

Assuming the router is working and other wireless devices can connect.

Have you tried removing the preinstalled trial version A/V software which is typically preinstalled on your factory Dell system?

Depending on which one is installed you would need to use the special removal tool to get rid of it completely or problems will ensue.

It can also help to remove all the preinstalled bloatware from your new system. Decrapifier will locate those preinstalled programs so that they can safely be removed.

I'm having a really annoying problem which is making my laptop almost unusable and a hassle to use. After a while of my laptop being on, my wireless network adapter will suddenly get "limited connectivity", and won't connect to the internet.
Disabling and enabling the adapter will cause my computer to freeze, requiring a restart. The same with troubleshooting. The only thing which fixes this is a fresh reboot, however it always occurs again within the hour.
Sometimes the entire adapter will randomly just disable itself, and the computer will completely freeze, meaning I have to press the power on/off. Sometimes the adapter will just disappear from Device Manager. Searching for "plug and play" devices will cause it to freeze.
Apart from having to reboot, what also seems to work is disabling the wifi from PC Settings, putting the computer to sleep, then awaking it and turning wifi back on. I've had to do that 6 times whilst typing this post.
I've tried flushing my dns, registering it, renewing and releasing. Assigning a static DNS address. All those things. Though I may have done them wrong.

Answer:Wifi network adapter randomly gets limited connectivity and freezes

Are you able to get your hands on a USB WiFi adapter to see if that also has the same problems?
It might also be worth checking to see how the Laptop behaves if you connect it to the router with an ethernet cable and disable WiFi.

I have a Lenovo Z580 (i3-2370M) with an Intel(R) Centrino(R) Wireless-N 2200 wireless adapter running on Windows 10. I have been having an obnoxious problem where WiFi becomes unresponsive when the laptop is moved, the screen is bumped, or a some combination of motion. There is no way to fix this problem without doing a hard reboot. Disabling and enabling the adapter does not work. I have tried this from the command line as well. If I attempt to shut down, the screen goes black, but the shutdown never completes and a hard shutdown is needed. I understand that this problem occurs when the adapter wires are jostled. I have taped them down more but the problem persists. While curing the problem outright would be nice (new hardware), I would like to have a way to reset the wireless adapter and necessary services in order to restore the wifi connection without a reboot. The problem seems to be that a hang occurs and the process refuses to shut down and is stuck waiting for some sort of reply. This problem was also present on Windows 7. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

I'm trying to fix my girlfriend's Windows 7 laptop after she had a virus/malware infection. I'm pretty sure we've successfully cleared the virus (an updated/full scan with Malwarebyte's Anti-Malware in safe mode comes up clean). However, we have had no Internet access since the infection. The wireless router/connection itself is fine (I connect to it daily with my laptop, as I am to write this post) but her laptop won't connect to it, we can't browse any web pages.

I may have made the problem worse in trying to resolve it. I stupidly followed the advice on a forum for some registry edits for Windows XP--deleting WinSock and WinSock2 from the registry and then restarting the computer in hopes they'd re-register themselves. Unfortunately, WinSock2 re-appeared but WinSock did not. I'm wondering if this has created a new problem (or compounded the problems we were already having).

In diagnostics, we currently get the following report: "Wireless Network Connection doesn't have a valid IP configuration." I just ran an ipconfig in the command prompt and got the following results:

As the adapter is disappearing from device manager , it may well be a hardware issue -

Try reseating the wireless adapter

If the adapter is easily accessible, usually through a cover on the bottom of the laptop.
Remove and reinsert it carefully and firmly to make sure it is not loose.
Then remove and carefully and firmly replace it several times to cure any possible looseness or corrosion.
At the same time check to make sure the antenna leads are securely attached.
Note: This is not taking the machine apart. We do not recommend removing the keyboard when that is necessary to find the wireless.

Greetings All! I inherited an old but decent Lenovo 3000 N100 laptop. Everything appears to work well except for the Wireless/wifi connection.  According to the device manager properties, the laptop has a Broadcom 802.11abg wireless card.  I installed the latest and greatest drivers for it, from here: http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/detail.page?DocID=DS001187 Unfortunately, I just have not been able to connect to my Asus 56 wifi router, which works will all of the many wireless devices at home. I use WPA2_PSK protocol with Windows native wireless support. I tried to install the latest and greatest Thinkvantage Access connections for xp meant for this laptop but it gives a "Access Connections is not supported on this platform".  http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/detail.page?LegacyDocID=migr-4zlnjb I was able to turn off encryption on the router and laptop and everything seemed to work just fine. As soon as I turn on encryption on both ends, I get this cryptic message (laptop is trying to get an IP from router DHCP) and have'nt a clue of what is going on (signal strength seems excellent): Wireless Network ConnectionThis connection has limited or no connectivity. You might not be able to access the Internet or some network resources. For more information, click this message. I have upgraded to Windows XP SP3. Someone said it could be the SP3 firewall. At this point, I am not sure what else to try.  If someo... Read more

Answer:Wireless on Broadcom wifi for 3000 N100 shows "Limited or no connectivity"

hi anonymouse99,

Can you try to:

1. Disable QoS - Wireless MultiMedia (WMM) on your wireless router
2. If your Asus 56 wifi router is a Dual-Band router, can you try to broadcast only in 2.4Ghz.
3. If you're using WPA2-PSK, do you have an option for TKIP or AES or both and switching to that mode?
4. Have you tried WPA-PSK TKIP or AES?
5. Configure your Wireless Device by opening Device Manager > Network Adapters > Right click on your wifi adapter > and under Advanced Tab, try to set 802.11n mode to Auto, WMM to Disabled, Mixed Cell Support to Disabled (check this article)

Hey everyone,
I'd really appreciate any help you guys can give on the issue...I'm at my wits end at this point...

So anyway, about a month ago my old 2wire modem pretty much kicked the bucket for good (after about 4 years of more or less dedicated service with the occasional hiccup here and there, I was kind of saddened yet relieved) and I was left without internet for a few days. I contacted my ISP with the issue, and after a bunch of failed restart attempts on their end (I told them the damn thing was dead already, but they were insistent on making sure I wasn't bs'ing them) they finally relented and decided to send me their new Pace 4111n router/modem.

A few days later, low and behold, I had a new Pace and guess what? IT HAD WIFI!!

The reason why this came as such an interesting surprise was because my old 2Wire that my ISP had originally provided us with was simply a modem with no router/wifi capabilities on it. In order to bypass the lack of Wifi, I had to purchase a Netgear N300 router and had it hooked up to the 2Wire for years with no connectivity issues.
Anyway, with the new Pace in hand, I put my old Netgear away and plugged the new baby in....and here is where things kinda went downhill....
Now...my old set up was kinda strange...I used to have the 2Wire modem hooked up to the Netgear router and in between had a Grandstream HT502 Voip phone adapter plugged in (we have the need in my household for long distance phone service, and in order to ... Read more

You seem to have a good wireless connection there, let's expand that a little and add some pings.

Try these simple tests.

Hold the Windows key and press R, then type CMD (COMMAND for W98/WME) to open a command prompt:

In the command prompt window that opens, type type the following commands one at a time, followed by the Enter key:

NOTE: For the items below in red surrounded with < >, see comments below for the actual information content, they are value substitutions from the previous IPCONFIG command output! Do NOT type <computer_IP_address> into the command, that won't work. Also, the < and > in the text is to identify the parameters, they are also NOT used in the actual commands.

Do NOT include the <> either, they're just to identify the values for substitution.

IPCONFIG /ALL

PING <computer_IP_address>

PING <default_gateway_address>

PING <dns_servers>

PING 74.125.45.100

PING yahoo.com

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter to copy the contents to the clipboard.
Paste the results in a message here.

<computer_IP_address> - The IP Address of your computer, obtained from the IPCONFIG command above. (For Vista/Win7, the IPv4 Address)

A computer running Vista Home Premium (Service Pack 1) says IPv4 Connectivity: Local and IPv6 Connectivity: Limited whether I use a wireless connection or a Ethernet cable. It appears to be connected and has Excellent signal strength when I use wireless, but I cant ping anything. In Device Manager Microsoft 6to4 Adapter had a Code 10 - This device cannot start error. I disabled it thinking that it might be the problem. It didn't solve anything but I left it disabled. The other drivers seem happy. I also read that the Internet Protocol Version 6 isn't used so I unchecked it in the connection properties.

ipconfig when connected wirelessly (I can take another of the ENET connection if that would help) :

Hello, I have been having a problem recently with my desktop's wireless connections. I know the hardwire connections worked without a problem while I was living on campus but while I am at home on winter break I have to rely on a wireless setup. The machine's specs are listed next to my profile name, and I am using a Linksys wireless-N receiver and router. What happens is once I log on and the machine boots up it automatically connects to my secured and encrypted connection with full signal strength and pretty good speed. It is capable of full internet connectivity and web browsing, but it often fails after a while.

I have had this problem for a couple weeks, ever since I moved out of my dorm. My brother uses the same USB receiver and we tried switching out the adapters with the same result so I am also fairly certain the adapter is not the cause here. Typically, if I only browse the web the connection has no problems, but if I try to connect to Steam or use Himachi to connect to a LAN with some friends the signal changes from high strength to limited connectivity and displays the yellow triangle/exclamation point icon on the task tray. Once this occurs I am unable to connect to the internet whatsoever, though the signal strength from my router is still very strong. I live in an apartment and my room is right next to where the router is located with only a wall getting in between the adapter and router, so I don't think that's an issue either. Oh, and the... Hey, i have a windows 7 laptop that ive just recently purchased. The wireless Connectivity was working fine last week, now suddenly it just wont work. I believe that its due to a program i recently installed that goes by the name of Connectify. I have uninstalled it yet still whenever i try connecting to any router wirelessly, the PC displays limited or no connectivity. On the other hand When i connect my laptop to a router via an Ethernet cable everything is fine. In case you are wondering, im currently using a 3g usb wireless stick to surf the internet, but i dont want to use it as i already have a router to use. Here are all my info:

Hello,

I am not certain what is relevant information, but this is an acer R7-571 with Windows 8.1. Though I can find networks when out and about, say at Starbucks or something, I cannot connect to them. It comes back with the response that the "connection is limited". This happens at friends' houses as well, using their password to join the network it always says connection limited and then I cannot get on the web.

I have tried all of the fixes that I could find thus far, but have had no success. I know, this is vague, I don't recall what I was doing, but through searching you can find some "solutions" but unfortunately they have not worked for me.

Currently I am trying to access a VPN using CiscoAnyconnect and this does not work either, is this connected to my other issue? The failure with the VPN is that "The VPN connection failed due to unsuccessful domain name resolution".

Thanks for any help, Terry

Answer:acer R7 Connectivity Issues - limited connectivity

Welcome,
To use VPN you must be known by the server you are trying to reach. I've used VPN to connect from home to my work network. I needed the information from our IT department to reach our servers and they had to grant me access so that the domain would allow me to play.
Have you done any configuration to your network card as far as DNS servers or any of the other parameters available?

so my school has a large wifi network on campus, yay. But I can't seem to use it. I have a wifi card made by microsoft. What happens is 99.9% of the time I try to connect to it I connect and siginal strength is "very good" or "excellent" but I windows fails to renew my IP address. I try to repair the connection a million time but it doesn't work still. It's only worked 3 times so far. Everyone else around me with a laptop can connect to the network no problem. I tried repairing the connection with no luck. I went to the command prompt and typed

ipconfig /release
ipconfig /flushdns
ipconfig /renew

and /renew fails.

I tried WindowsXP Sock Fix. Still nothing.
I went down to my school's "computer help desk" and wouldn't you know that it worked when I was down there so they couldn't help me, but the second I leave it doesn't work. Great, I don't really wanna stand around the computer help desk to use wifi. I think this world doesn't want me to use wifi..... any help would be appriciated. Thanks.

Hi there

I have recently bought a new laptop and I was wondering if anyone could help me with this problem. I have tried to fix it myself but so far can’t find a solution. The problem is that when trying to connect to the internet, I get a “connection has limited or no connectivity” and when I run IE I get I dialup window. The other computers on the network can connect to the internet fine. The network is a wired one not wireless.
When the cable is put in or the connection is disabled/enabled the laptop can not complete “acquiring network address”, and when I press repair it can’t renew the IP address. It also seems that the IP it has been assigned to is a 169.254.X.X address where the other computers have a 10.0.0.X address. The cable itself seems fine as it works on other computers alright.
I have tried connecting without firewalls/antivirus on and restarting the router. Also I have tried IPCONFIG/RELEASE and RENEW in the command prompt and still it can’t get a valid IP address and reverts back to the 169.254.X.X one.
The DHCP on the router is set to “System Allocated” between “Start Address 10.0.0.3” and “End Address 10.0.0.14”. The other computers have addresses between that range. One computer was formatted recently and was assigned an address successfully. It seems that my laptop can't get an address from DCHP.
It works if i manually assigned the IP address, subnet mask, default gateway and preferred DNS server, and can connect to the internet and t... Read more

ok for some reason grandma keeps screwing up every day when "wink wink" the computer on the internet wont work but every time i turn it on before she does it works just fine.. so how can i correct this problem

Answer:limited or no connectivity

My suggestion is to patiently ask lots of questions about what she did before the problem occurs.  Also, if you can, sit with her for awhile, ask her to do again what she did the last time the problem happened, and observe what she does.  By doing this, you might uncover the underlying problem. Keep in mind that she doesn't process the details of using a computer as fast as younger computer users.  This is due, to some extent, simply because she was not exposed to computers until much later in life than younger people. My mother is a senior citizen.  I'm not bragging but I truly do a better job of helping her with computer questions than some of the younger members of the family because I go at slower pace when explaining things to her.  For example, one of my nephews (one of her grandchildren) might show her how to do something but he goes through it so fast that she simply does not retain anything he showed her.

Hi -

Boot into SAFEMODE w/ Networking and see if you can connect to the Internet there.

Try Ethernet cable as well.

Go to Toshiba support, select "Downloads", enter system info and update drivers -

http://www.csd.toshiba.com/cgi-bin/t...t/jsp/home.jsp

Check the USB wifi manufacturer's web site for updated drivers.

Are you updated with Vista SP2? If not --> http://jcgriff2.com/0x1/Vista_SP_Prepwork.html

I am always called upon to fix friends computers. I usually bring them to my house and hook them up to my dsl modem. The problem is that they dont work right away. It says limited or no connectivity on the task bar. After maybe an hour or so it will begin to work correctly. Is there something I can do to speed up this process or am I doing something wrong? It also does this when i hook my computer back up. Takes an hour then starts to work. Thanks in advance for your help.

Hello,
I'm just at my end with this problem. I've had a Linksys router (model BEFW11S4 v.4) for about two years. Recently, it's been running a wireless signal and has done so very well for about two months. A laptop and Nintendo Wii were connected with a "Good" signal at about 11mbps. However, one day it truly just stopped working. All of my devices can detect the signal and see how strong it is but can not connect to it. The laptop says 'limited or no connectivity.' I have reset the router/modem countless times, reinstalled the router, changed the channel of the router (11 is said to work best), updated the firmware, repaired the connections, tested the ping on my MSDos command prompt, and just about everything else I can think of to fix this but the remedy is always short-lived. Tech support at Linksys hung up on me because my model is outside their measly one-year support program and why would I pay $30 for tech support when I can get a new router for that? Anyways, can anyone please help with some ideas?
Thanks!

Called your isp too? My service had been acting up for about two months, tried everything. My ISP finally shut the server a couple days ago for repairs. They said to call back if I still have the same problem after the repairs........No problems since..

First the background. I've jsut been on holiday and left my laptop at home for my kids and grandma to use. when I got back, the problems started.

Apparently there was a thunderstorm... what i've got is an ADSL Broadband modem that wont show a link or an ethernet light. Powers up fine but otherwise, fried. I have reset it, taken it into work and tried it there but all to no avail.

Laptop. I cannot connect to either my modem or, if I re-wire things, my wireless hub (buffalo airstation g54).

All hardware has been taken into the office and checked. Old modem is fried, new modem works fine on another machine and so too does the wireless kit.

I can connect to other wireless networks via my buffalo kit but cannot connect to my own network.

I have replaced the driver for the NIC, used IPCONFIG /RELEASE etc and haven't got anywhere. It won't get an IP address. I have manually put in the IP, wins, dns addresses and that doesn't work either.

so, by a process of elimination, it must be the NIC or the software that controls it. Either that or the network settings.

Even though the NIC connects at 100mbps, it tells me that there is limited or no connectivity and that it hasn't been given an IP address. If I use the windows repair utility it reports that it can't get an IP address.

Can someone help me as it is driving me mad. I dont' want to reload windows as I'll loose all my applications. Bah!

Many thanks

FT

I have a small LAN and one of the PCs is refusing to connect to the network -- it tries to connect ("acquiring address") & after couple of mins the message "Limited or no connectivity". I installed the most recent driver, didnt work; then I uninstalled the network adapter from Device Manager, turned off and back on, Windows reinstalled the adapter but couldnt acqire address.

I'm ready to get another card but I'm pretty sure it's not that. It would really annoy me to go to the trouble of installing a new card and not solve the problem. Any suggestions?

Thanks for your help.

Hello,
I have recently moved house and when I tried to connect to the internet I got limited connectivity. I have looked up a fair few solutions and none seem to work for me. I was wondering if getting a wireless usb adapter would do the trick? Obviously I don't want to waste my money if it's unlikely to help.
I appreciate any help you can give me

Hi,

Please can someone help me to get back my internet connection? I have a belkin wireless router, it's not a direct connection to my cable modem.
This morning when I turned my PC on I had the 'limited or no connectivity' message, since then I have tried the following:

All windows options i.e repair connection, reset routers/modems etc.....
Tried different RJ45 cable
Reinstalled the network adapter

I am currently on a laptop conected wirelessly to my router, so I am assuming the problem is localised to my PC and the router.....I also noticed there is a connection (100Mbps) so I am sure it's my internet settings which have scrambled. I am out of ideas so does anyone know what the problem could be? is there a way of resetting the network connection?

I am currently using Vista Ultimate 64bit edition.

Thanks

Phil

Alright so I have an interesting problem. A few days ago I decided i wanted to open up so ports on my router for my xbox 360 so I would no longer have a strict NAT. Everything was going fine and I opened all the correct ports, set up static IP for the Xbox and PC but I still didn't have an open NAT. While browsing my router's setting I noticed something that says NAT feature disable/enable so I figured this must be it so I hit disable. After I did that the internet no longer works on my Vista Home Premium 64bit machine and on my xbox but works fine on my XP machine.

I've tried reinstalling vista, updating drivers for NIC, I even took the router out of the picture and tried plugging directly into the modem but to no avail. I've set all the settings back to how they were (to my knowledge) before I tried messing with everything ie. put all the network settings back on automatic instead of manual. I'm really not sure what to do. Also when I plug the xbox into the modem and try to connect it says somethign about not being able to find the DNS server but all the settings are back to automatic and I've unplugged the modem multiple times.

I'm pretty much stumped and any help would be greatly appreciated.

A while ago i had posted about a limited connectivity problem. Basically every now and then for some unknown reason the network would crash and the nics would stop responding properly. After some digging on various forums i found out that the problem was resolved when i changed duplex/ speed settings from autonegotiation to anything else. The problem by forcing the speed settings is that my internet connection is not that stable since my switch is not configurable . By running a netstat -e everything i download is a discard / error. Running 3 applications for example youtube, a download manager and poker is impossible and i can only do 1 thing at a time.
I have a 680i (abit in9 32max wifi) updated with the latest drivers (up to 1gbps)
The connection passes through an old 3com switch which supports up to 100mbps and then goes to my netgear router. I have windows vista ultimate fully updated. I also have another pc next to mine connected to the same switch with an intel x38 motherboard and it doesn't have any problem at all. I ve also noticed that a direct connection with the router eliminating the need of the switch wouldn't change the limited connectivity problem.

Since i found a work around to fix this i would like to know why it happens. I ve read many posts and till now this problem appears on the 1gbps nics.
Is it a driver problem and if so, why do i still have the problem after a format? (My pc worked for a year or so without having any problems at all).
Is there anot... Read more

Hello, newbie here. Just finished building a home system to replace an old p4. I installed vista 64. I am getting limited or no connectivity when connected via LAN on my dlink dir-625 range booster n router. I didn't have this problem before with the p4 vista 32. I tried everything so far (turn off modem and router, release ip, etc) except for resetting the router back to factory defaults. I'm currently connected directly to the dsl modem without any problems. I had to disconnect the router.

Is there any way around this. I could reset the router but have to re connect all the computers and wii?

Thanks in advance.

Answer:limited or no connectivity

Ok, I ended up re-setting the router. The culprit was a program that came with the router called Network Magic. I hid the ssid and blocked the network - which I forgot. I figured this out after the re-set. Oh well. I think I'll go back to vista 32 since now, i have hardware like HDTV wonder and maxtor usb OTIII that won't work.

WHen are vendors gonna provide 64 bit drivers? I just wonder.

Have a nice day

I just Installed Windows XP Home on my new 300 gb Hard drive (previouolsy using XP Pro on a seperate hard drive on which the internet HAD worked fine) and after installing a driver provided by the motherboard company called "VIA PCI 10.1000Mb Lan Driver" I can no longer connect to the internet due to "Limited or No Connectivity".
I have tried several suggestions that worked for others on the forums with this problem
- netsh winsock reset catalog
- netsh int ip reset reset.log
- Replaced the Network Cable
I am on a desktop PC that is connected via a Netgear Router (WGT624 v2), and my laptop works perfectly. And now when i try to use my old hard drive to access the internet it connects but it does not recieve any packets.
