Can't load some websites, DNS problem maybe?

Question: Can't load some websites, DNS problem maybe?

I can't load some websites, at first I just ignored it and hoped it will go away.

It just got annoying.

So when I actually tried to somewhat fix it and searched for it, I can't load most of the websites that can help. So, can anyone please help me?

I forgot to mention that all of my electronics with a browser cant load these websites, so it cant just be my laptop. I ran scans, restarted, flushed the dns and even tried changing it to a public dns (but it wont load though, so i didnt). Contacted my ISP, but they kept telling me that my internet connection is just fine. Tried changing my wifi router from a newer one that i borrowed, didn't change anything. And still nothing, it's been a week now, it's just frustrating when you have your break early with no one around + no internet D:

Help? Please?

Preferred Solution: Can't load some websites, DNS problem maybe?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Can't load some websites, DNS problem maybe?

edited your post - please do not use *** here or the language

is this only certain websites - can you load any websites ?

as it applies to all devices and you have changed the router - that tends to leave the ISP or modem if separate

would you give examples of websites
also try pinging the website

------------------------------------------------------------------------
Ping Tests
If you cannot access the internet with this PC, then you will need to paste the results into something like notepad and then copy onto a machine that can access the internet and post the results in a reply here.
Save the file to a USB flash drive or other removable media. Plug it into the working computer with internet access and copy the file and paste here.

Start> Run {search bar in Vista/W7}> type CMD to open a command prompt box
(A new dialogue box - black with white font, will appear on screen ):

Type the following command
Ping {then a space and then add the website - eg google.com (ping google.com) }
Post back the results in a reply here
right click in the command prompt box
select all
enter
control key + C key - to copy
then reply here and
control key + V to paste

I grew up with computers and etc but still don't know what's wrong with my current machine. I'm not using it by the way because it can't even load google.com, facebook, or the bbcnews and the list goes on. But it can load my school site which makes me think previously trusted pages can still be loaded? But google would always be a trusted page augh I dunno. HELP!

Here's the general problem, I noticed about an hour ago my internet wasn't working properly. I use mozilla but tried IE also with the same problems, which leads me to believe it's not a browser problem. I also tried running the internet straight from my cable modem into my laptop's ethernet port, same problem. So it's not the router. I haven't downloaded anything suspicious recently and I always run an antivirus with my windows firewall always up. I tried doing a system restore, that's when I noticed I only have 1 restore point from 4am this morning (13hours ago). I tried loading it of course but it failed for some unknown reason and told me to try another restore point, which there wasn't any. I know I have many gigs of space dedicated just for system restore so I'm guessing I have some sort of malware/virus that trend micro didn't pick up.

I run a vista home version, asus laptop,intel 2.0dual core 64bit processor.

Answer:Uknown problem, cannot load 99% of websites

1. System Restore is known to fail in normal mode...especially with Norton Installed. Boot to F8->safe mode and try again.

Here are some commands to help you.

start-> in the "start searxh" box type:cmd -> now right click CMD up top and select "run as administrator". This brings up an elevated command prompt. Use this box for both commands.

1. ipconfig /flushdns -> press enter (should say successfully flushed dns cache)
2. netsh winsock reset -> then restart computer

I am almost certain this will help. Other than that try F8 on boot and select "Safe Mode With Networking" and try the websites. If they don't work in here either than I would start saving your files to reinstall windows.

So, I've tried loading one specific site and it gives a loading indicator on the tab and just keeps on going. I've tried it on other browsers, no solution. I've tried clearing caches and cookies, no solution. I've also tried it on other computers on the same local connection and they don't work as well. I've done some research about DNS but I'm not 100% sure what to do. I know i have to check my ipconfig but I don't know what to look for. Please help.

PS i also saw something about HOST.files and deleting specific ones. Not sure if that doesn't apply since it's not just the single computer, the problem applies to all computers so I'm assuming its a ISP or DNS problem.

Okay, well I recently discovered I could not load any website from both Firefox and IE except for sites like .edu I believe and protected sites. For some odd reason, these websites will not load yet it still says it is connected. Also, I believe there is no problem with my Internet provider because I am currently typig this from my iPod Touch which is connected to the wireless router. I need help soon. Please and thank you.

Our users have IE 7 and 8. We keep them locked into place by pointing IE to our firewall product (tools > internet options > connections > lan settings), so that only approved sites are the ones that our people can access. In the last few days, several of them report issues with specific websites loading very slowly - load times of over an hour just to get the log-in screen to appear.Troubleshooting Steps:1.) Unchecked the "use proxy server for your LAN" under the IE menus---> Site resolves instantly, as it should---> This pointed me to the direction that perhaps the site wasn't configured for our firewall2.) Re-checked the "use proxy server" box, and specifically configured the site in our firewall---> Site continues to resolve slowly, with the same load times as before performing step 1That would normally indicate that the problem is on the vendor's end. Something may be wrong with their site. And that's the line of thought I was pursuing until I was reported back to that the users are having the same problem on other websites. These new websites they're having problems with are, and have been for a long time, configured properly in the firewall.I'm not sure what my next step is to pursue. What am I looking for now? I don't know enough about networking to figure out where to track next.

Answer:Users are unable to load websites - no error, just 1-hour+ load times for pages

It appears that you have already posted a hijackthis log here. Please be patient while waiting for assistance. HJT Helpers are all volunteers regardless where you post a log. While waiting for a response, you should not ask for help elsewhere or make changes to your computer (install/uninstall programs, use special fix tools, delete files, edit the registry, etc.) Any modifications you make on your own can result in system changes which may not show it the log you already posted. Further, following advice outside of that post may cause confusion for the HJT Helper assisting you and could complicate the malware removal process which would extend the time it takes to clean your computer. If you had posted your log here, similar rules would apply. We would ask that you be patient while awaiting a reply and refrain from asking for help elsewhere. If you followed any other advice already, please ensure you inform the HJT Team Helper when they respond to assist you with your log. This will help them know what has been done and they probably will ask for an updated log.To avoid confusion, I am closing this topic. If you still need assistance after your log has been reviewed and you have been cleared, please start a new topic. I use firefox as my browser. Lately some websites either won't load or take in upwards of 20 minutes. My virus scanner keeps catching virus's. I have run my virus scanner(CA VIRUS SCANNER), ad-aware, spybot, spysubtract, and superantispyware, they all cuaght something the first run through but now come up clean. i then browsed the forums here and found a similar post. I tried some of the suggestions there, which were to repair my network connection in the control panel, and to set firefox's network connection to autodetect, these seem to have helped but some sites are still slow particularly pogo games(my wife)pogo.com loads up fine it's the popup game windows that have the problem. thanks for any help.

Some websites, for example:
http://www.colonialfirstate.com.au/ and
http://postbillpay.com.au

do not load in my newly installed IE7.

The error message says:

This program cannot display the webpage

Most likely causes:
You are not connected to the Internet.
The website is encountering problems.
There might be a typing error in the address.

What you can try:
Check your Internet connection. Try visiting another website to make sure you are connected.
Retype the address.
Go back to the previous page.
More information

But the same websites load OK in Firefox.

I have fiddled around with the security settings etc., but still no joy.

I did not have such a problem with IE6.

I also use Maxthon Browser from time to time. But since that is based on IE engine, even that will not show some websites.

Can somebody suggest a solution?

The only Firewall that I use is WinPatrol. I clean up Malware once in a while with AdAware SE.

Answer:Websites Will Not Load in IE, But Will Load in Firefox

Hello, This is not an answer to your question, I just wanted to say that 'WinPatrol' is not a firewall.

For a long time I've tolerated this problem. Basically, an assortment of websites have trouble loading. Some times they will take a couple refreshes to load, sometimes they will load in HTML after a long time, and some don't load at all. Sometimes a website will work fine, but then not load the next day. It's starting to really piss me off, especially since it affects such websites as:
- SoundCloud
- Twitch.tv
- Justin.tv
- The Escapist
- Facebook (occasionally)
- Many more!
As far as I can tell, this all started a few months ago. My internet spontaneously stopped working. I called my ISP (TelstraClear NZ), and the operator did some troubleshooting. Eventually the problem just seemed to fix itself after I unplugged and replugged my modem; I guess it reset my connection. But ever since then, I've had this problem.
I have a SURFBoard modem and a Netgear wireless router.
The things I've done to try fix are:
- Changing my DNS servers - many times
- Using a different OS/computer
- Using a different browser
- Pinging the servers of stuck websites. Often I can't reach them with a ping
- Turning off/unplugging my modem and router
- Plugging my modem directly into the computer
I'm at my wit's end as to what the problem is. Everything i can see suggests that this is a DNS problem - the seemingly arbitrary times websites won't work, my inability to ping them, the random assortment of affected websites. The only other thing that would make sense ... Read more

Answer:Certain websites don't load

Diagnose the problem with the ISP modem only being used. It might be a hardware or connection problem from your provider. Try ipconfig/flushdns on command prompt.

On my computer, I have had countless operating systems installed reinstalled and removed. Most of the time I go for a complete wipe. But I decided to swap around my computers because my main PC broke down so my test pc is now my normal one. I am running XP professional, have run windows vista and Linux Ubuntu 9.04 and 9.10.

The problem has occured after a few months of having Windows Vista, and now after 42 days of running XP professional. However the problem does not occur on Ubuntu. I have checked for viruses/spyware/malware etc and apart from double click nothing.

The problem is that Google Images does not show any thumbnails. When I click on the thumnnail it RESETS my internet connection. However I can copy and paste the link into the address bar hit return and it work fine. www.pcspecialist.co.uk will load no images and when I click a link the browser will take about a minute to do something then displays an error about my connection, however the connection has not dropped. From this point forward I have no internet access. I unplug and replug in my wireless g dongle, no effect, Turn off and turn on the g type router of the same make, no effect. I delete my connection and set up the connection again, no effect. I have no internet access until I reboot my pc.

Another website that is displaying symptoms is filefront, the CSS will no longer load and sometimes it causes the same effect as pcspecialist, and forums sometimes have difficulty loading.

Answer:Some websites do not load

You can tackle this problem two ways, first by just clearing the cache, but also by restarting the DNS client service, which handles caching of DNS lookups.

Open up your command prompt by right clicking on it and choose run as administrator :
Now type in the following command: ipconfig /flushdns > click enter
This usually clears up any issues that might be occurring. Note that with Firefox you should probably also close and reopen it, because Firefox has a DNS cache as well.
Open up an administrator mode command prompt again as above,
Now type in the following commands:
net stop dnscache > click enter
net start dnscache > click enter
Now just to make sure your DNS Service has started again open run type in services.msc >click enter
Scroll down to DNS Client and just check that it says " started automatic "

This should help you out !

I've just got the internet and find that both internet explorer and firefox don't show some sites (eg won't show microsoft, some anti-virus software companies etc) yet it shows most others I go to, even obsure ones. I've tried disabling both the windows and the router firewall. I've dropped all the security levels in the Privacy and Security tabs of the Internet Options. I have SSL3 and TLS enabled. I've allowed ActiveXs to run (with prompt). I've checked C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc\hosts and find the only line is: 127.0.0.1 localhostI've tried all the above simultansously but the microsoft website will not load. I can't believe it and many others have been offline for many days now. Very little software has been loaded on this laptop and it has no history of surfing and this problem I noticed almost immediately after connecting up to my router for the first time. I downloaded version 8 of IE from microsft (from a different computer a week earlier). I then downloaded the most recent firefox from here upon my struggles with IE. I'm running Windows XP Professional service pack 2. please plase helpregardspaul

Hi, I've been having a problem with my pc in that I sometimes can't load websites. This happens in both firefox and I.E.

I can't think of anything about the websites themselves that would stop them from loading. I noticed a couple of days ago that one website that didn't work, would work if i removed the www. for the url. I then was able to load the site but it didn't display as it should in that this page does not show the toolbar examples on the page, but i instead get a grey blank bar.

I can load the sites on another pc in my house, so it must be something to do with this pc.

Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Thanks for any help,
Justin.

I was hoping I wouldn't have to post on the forum (I hope I chose the right category to post it in) for advice but after reading endless threads all over the net I am still left with a problem I can't seem to figure out.
Basically, there are 3 websites (that I know of) that won't load on my laptop at home. Google.com, Facebook.com and Amazon.com.
I've tried to disconnect my WiFi and turn my phone into a hotspot but they still won't load. They all work on my phone, both on the WiFi and the mobile network. They also work on other PC's
I use Firefox, but I have tried Internet Explorer, Chrome, Safari and Opera and none of them can open these sites.
A few of the advices I've read and tried are:
Replacing 'http' with 'https'. Did nothing.
Flushing by opening a command box and writing 'flushdns'. I did it correctly and it did not work.
I have my computer set up with a login password (the reason I post this is because I read somewhere that setting a login password might help). This is how desperate I am.
I haven't done a System Restore because the dates offered aren't after this started to happen, which is over a month ago.
I'm from Iceland and for some reason google.is does work.
I have a year old Acer with a Windows 7 64 bit OS.
Is there anybody out there that has the slightest idea of what is causing this?
Many thanks in advance.

I bought a Sony Vaio netbook in November 2010 and to start with it allowed me access to hotmail, my work email, and university email accounts. Now however, none of these websites will load for me to access any of my emails. The internet progress bar says 'done' but the pages always remain blank.

I can't load any videos on youtube either.

I've had a look around up here and can't really find anything useful.

Please help as I'm at a loss as to what to do. I'm not that much of an advanced user. I'm really just an average computer user.

I'd be grateful for any advice you can give me.

Hey guys,
I have a really nasty problem which i really have no idea how to fix. When I start my computer (which is running win 8), yahoo messenger won't sign in, and certain websites won't load for me for about 10-15 minutes. So it's just for certain websites, and the yahoo messenger client. Skype and 90% of the websites load with no problems whatsoever. And it only happens after i turn on my machine, or after a restart. The problem persists no matter what browsers i use. When i ping those websites, I get replies from them, everything looks just fine, but they just won't load. After 10-15 minutes, they just fire up, all at once and i get no problems whatsoever. It's not a problem with the internet connection, as I got another windows running machine, an iPad, and my gf's Mac, and none of them are experiencing this issue. Plus, it also happens when i'm using any other network from a different location.
Any ideas why this crap is happening to me?

Update: i have flushed my dns, and have run antivirus solutions like dr. web, combofix and malwarebyes anti-malware, and still no joy. My windows updates are up to date...
Do you need any other info for a diagnostic?

Try using Google DNS 8.8.8.8/8.8.4.4 or OpenDNS 208.67.222.222/208.67.220.220 and see if the problem persist?

Not sure what is wrong. I have so many problems with sites not wanting to load at all or sometimes when they load, like Kookeys website is one I'm having alot of problems with, it has like a plain dark blue section in the middle of the screen. The url for the site is www.kookeys.comSometimes I get as far as a page that just keeps saying Loading...This may take a few moments-- but it will be worth the wait!I tried to contact the people at the site and I don't think they even read my email because of the response I got back. I think they just sent out one of those form letters that they send to anyone who writes. I've tried so many things like clearing the cache, cookies, all that stuff.

So out of nowhere I have stumbled across this problem...not being able to access a few random websites. I have used Google Chrome, Firefox, and IE...they all do the same thing. I have scanned for viruses, flushed dns, deleted temp files, tried the WinSock fix and nothing has helped in the least. I have also tried power cycling my modem and router. Even on my Zune HD the web browser cannot load these websites which leads me to believe it has to do with my network and not my computer. The websites that do work work just fine with no hiccups. Then I try to go to a website (http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/ for example) and it will just sit there and load. If I am lucky it might load a broken webpage with some text, but this happens rarely. There is no error message it just loads with no progress and says "Waiting for forums.steampower.com...". This problem just started last night and I had never seen anything like this before.

Is there any guidance someone could provide?
UPDATE:

OK so I come back to my computer tonight and it's like this never happened. Everything seemed to sort itself out! Lucky me....lock if needed.

Yesterday I ran a virus scan and deleted several viruses. After I did that, i noticed that my internet was running slower than normal. I figured i would wait until today to see if it would work better...it didn't. In fact, it got worse. Now websites like facebook and ebay take forever to load, and when they finally load, they load incorrectly. Today I ran more virus scans but they found nothing. I tried a system restore but that didn't work either. I also tried other browsers, but they all had the same problem.

I also tried booting up in safe mode and everything worked when i did that. I've seen other people with this same problem but all of the solutions that they were given didn't work.

Can anyone help me with this problem?

Just earlier today, for some reason, I am unable to get onto some sites because they just won't load at all, the main ones being Wikipedia, other wiki and wikia based sites and just some random sites when searching for stuff on google. They take forever to load and then come up with the message 'oops! Google chrome could not open the site'. Other than that, most sites are working perfectly fine and are running at a normal speed, but some are a bit slow with loading, like IGN, Gamespot and the American site for yahoo answers.

I've tried two different internet browsers (google chrome and internet explorer), but that doesn't work. It DEFINITELY has nothing to do with my computer because I've tried both my computers and they both have the same issue (even my PS3 couldn't load wikipedia). I tried connecting my DS to my internet earlier as well and couldn't connect (kept getting the 62010 error code) the first two times (never happened before).

So I think it must be something to do with my internet connection. I've checked my internet speed and that hasn't changed, it's just some sites refuse to load or take forever to load, very annoying. And I tried loading wikipedia and other sites that wouldn't load on my computer(s) on my phone and they all loaded fine, and since my phone is using the mobile internet, there must be something wrong with my router/internet connection.

The only thing I can think of is that my br... Read more

Yesterday, the computer froze up while an employee was searching the web. She said it wouldn't do anything (ctrl-alt-del, start button, shutdown, nothing...). She unplugged the PC to get it to turn off and when she powered it back on the computer would boot but it slowed everything to a crawl. When I got to work I noticed 2 little harddrive icons in the lower right and if you hovered over them it said "The data in volume is being verified & repaired." We have a raid 1 configuration on this system so I thought maybe one of the drives had failed. I let it run for about 4 hours and it never finished, so I hard reset it by holding in the power button and booted it into safe mode. The Intel Storage Matrix finished verifying the harddrives (it only took about an hour an half in safe mode) and it said everything was fine. The computer also ran like normal in safe mode, but when I booted it back up in normal mode after about 10 seconds everything slowed to a crawl and then froze even though it wasn't verifying the harddrives anymore. So I followed the steps in "READ & RUN ME FIRST". That seems to have fixed the slowness but now some websites won't load at all or very slowly, others run just fine. If I try to go to www.google.com the browser doesn't do anything at all. If I try to load www.majorgeeks.com it loads but it takes a few minutes to load the page. If I type in the IP address for google it seems to load just fine tho... Read more

Hi everyone,

I've the issue stated in the title. Some websites load and others time out. I've been googling for two days trying all sorts of solutions but none of it helped. Before I just wipe and reinstall Windows I want to try this as a last resort, partly because I'm not even convinced it's actually in the computer itself. Here's what I know so far:

- The problem started at an indefinate time: it's the computer of my parents and they can't tell me more than "it suddenly stopped!"
- The pages that aren't loading don't share any commons grounds: they're news pages, forums, secured websites, a bit of everything.
- Some pages load slowly instead of not at all.
- The computer runs on Windows 7 Home edition and is up to date.
- The computer is wired to a switch which leads into a router, which connects to the modem.
- The problem occurs with Internet Explorer, Google Chrome and Firefox.
- The problem is not affecting any other computers on the same network.
- I can ping some of the "unreachable" websites just fine. Typing in their IP address does not load the page.

I've tried the following things that didn't work:

- Deleting temporary internet files and resetting safety settings to normal.
- Disabling the firewall
- Clearing the DNS cache
- Giving the computer a static IP address
- Changing the DNS server manually (to that of google: 8.8.8.8)
- Uninstalling and reinstalling browsers and related applications like Flash and Java.
- Disabling all startup... Read more

Do the pages that dont load on that computer, load on other devices? It could be server error, or it could be your ISP, somehow throttling your connection to certain sites. You have quite the comprehensive list of things you have already tried.
Im not exactly sure what to suggest for you to do. Good luck.

However, when I open IE7 nothing loads. The status bar at the bottom very slowly gets to half-way, then stays there.

I have had no problems with firefox.

Since I don't use IE7 no add-ons have been installed. My OS is windows XP.

I seem to be having a problem with certain websites loading. Many websites (Download.com, Slashdot.org, Facebook, to name a few) wont load at all. I have noticed that when they stop loading my browser (IE7) is displaying Waiting for (Insert Web Page Here) next to the load bar. My computer (IBM Laptop running XP SP2) was recently infected with some spyware/viruses i removed with Spyware doctor (With Anti-Virus). My problem seemed to have occured after I had removed the infections and I'm beginning to think mabye something was left behind or altered during the process.

So far I have Cleared all my internet cache files and cookies and whatnot, reset all the settings for IE7, disabled all firewalls (Have none but the windows one) and antivirus/spyware programs. I have also updated everything (Flash, Java, ect.) I can think of.

So please Help me this problem is driving me crazy.

My problem started with trying to ftp files to my website server. I could upload .html files but not the .jpg ones. I used two different ftp programs.
I tried using my server control panel option only to discover I couldn't load the page. I can't load either of my websites: www.ethicaldogbreeding.com or www.ironwoodkennel.com Yet, I can surf all other sites on the net.

I rebooted, cleared my history, cookies, temp files... I ran Avast antivirus program.
Suspected perhaps firewall issue. Windows firewall is Off. Turned off Avast. Nothing. Complete uninstall of Avast. Nothing.
Bare bones one program at a time and nothing.

Contacted the host server tech support. Weren't able to help.

Friends can load the sites. And I can even load the sites only if I use the proxy site atunnel.com
It's a problem definately on my end.

I contacted my isp to see if my IP address was blocked. No answer. It's been 2 days and I'm totally frustrated.
Do any of you have any ideas of what I may be able to try?

Thank you for your time,
Janet

So I have a bit of a hobby I guess you could call it. I do little graphics for people online for roleplaying style sites (no nothing adult lol). But the graphics I make do require me to venture out to find websites with a large collection of photos of the person or people the requester is using for their character. Normally this just results in me finding and using fan sites.

Where the problem is happening is that certain sites just won't load (even though they once did months ago). At first I thought it was just my old and dying computer that was like four years old. But I'm now using a brand new custom built (and expensive) system but the problem still remains. I have done a few tests, even grabbed some suggestions from this site in fact. But nothing seems to be working. When I did a troubleshoot on my connection and then insert the sites I was trying to access it came back saying my network was fine but the site was not responding. Is there anything I can do to fix this?

Also, friends of mine have been able to load these sites just fine and just like I stated back a few months ago I too could access them.

Welcome to Major Geeks!

Please read ALL of this message including the notes before doing anything.

Pleases follow the instructions in the below link:

READ & RUN ME FIRST. Malware Removal Guide

and attach the requested logs when you finish these instructions.

**** If something does not run, write down the info to explain to us later but keep on going. ****
Do not assume that because one step does not work that they all will not. MGtools will frequently run even when all other tools will not.

After completing the READ & RUN ME and attaching your logs, make sure that you tell us what problems still remain ( if any still do )!
Helpful Notes:

If you run into problems trying to run the READ & RUN ME or any of the scans in normal boot mode, you can run the steps in safe boot mode but make sure you tell us what you did later when you post logs. See the below if you do not know how to boot in safe mode:

Starting your computer in Safe mode

If you have problems downloading on the problem PC, download the tools and the manual updates for SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes ( links are given in the READ & RUN ME) onto another PC and then burn to a CD. Then copy them to the problem PC. You will have to skip getting updates if (and only if) your internet connection does not work. This has been happening recently... most of the websites I try to go to won't load at all, or simply state at the bottom of Firefox that it's transferring data or whatever.

Some of the websites that will never load are... yahoo answers, last.fm, facebook... Others will give me a 404 error message until I refresh the internet page a dozen times.

It definitely is not a problem with my ISP.. ever since I've bought my Toshiba (with Windows Vista Home Basic, eek), I've been having problems.

Hi there,

I came across this forum simply by searching google and finding another thread where someone had a similar problem (http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=136340). Anyway, certain websites simply won't load on my computer - this includes Facebook, the "sell" pages of ebay, windows updates and aol.co.uk.

I only recently set up new broadband after moving house, from TalkTalk. Although my computer is c. 6 years old, on my old broadband before moving all sites worked fine. When I set TalkTalk up, attempted installation of their anti-virus software made my computer cycle on restart (restarting again every time the desktop appeared). It wouldn't even start on Safe Mode, and in the end the only thing I could do was System Recovery. After this, installing broadband went fine, and I didn't attempt to use their anti-virus software again. However, the websites listed above have never worked on my connection, although otherwise the connection is fine. I have checked the following:

Checked Java is up to date
Tried disabling all firewall and antivirus software - still wouldn't load
Tried using different browsers (IE and Firefox)
Restarting modem, restarting computer etc.
Cleared cache, cookies etc

I then went through all the basic maintenance tasks on this forum, before following the malware guide on the thread listed above. I have attached my logs for Counterspy, Runkeys, Shownew and HijackThis. However, I couldn't get Bi... Read more

There are two websites in our computer lab that will not load. I have tried several different browsers, turned off firewalls, scanned for viruses and spyware and emptying temp files, etc. I can ping the addresses, but when I do a traceroute they time out from the 5th hop forward. We can visit any other website, it is just these two sites. The server in the lab is running Windows 2003 Standard Edition, and there are three routers. There twenty computers in the lab all using Windows XP. We could use some help, since the one website is ours (www.campbellfordcrc.ca) and the other is a website that the public uses constantly for job searches (www.ospreycareers.com).

The only spyware that was found was one called AutomatedSurf. However, the antispyware program did remove it.

Hello, I seem to be having problems with either my internet connection or software on my computer, hopefully someone out there can help me figure out what the problem is.

I recently just purchased a sager notebook, and by recent I mean I just got this sucker 3 days ago. Since then, I have been unable to access a handful of websites unless I use a proxy to tunnel them. Even then I am unable to download several files from said sites because they simply will not load.

I first noticed this when I tried to access Firefox.com. Having used Mozilla on my previous computer, I decided to switch over to it again on my new one. At least I thought I was going to. The website simply will not load, and continuously times out. When I attempt to diagnose the problem, I receive a message stating "Your computer appears to be correctly configured but the device or resource is not responding."

I immediately assumed it was Internet Explorer, my current browser at the time, was restricting me from accessing the site. I disabled my firewall and played around with my privacy settings, but to no avail it remained unreachable. So, I searched and searched and found a Developer Preview version of Mozilla, and downloaded it hoping the problem would not persist. To my surprise, I was still unable to access the website even with a seperate browser.

So I unistalled the Mozilla crap and returned to using Internet Explorer, albeit begrudgingly, until I could fix the problem.

It wasn't long ... Read more

Answer:some websites will not load

I do not know this product, but if they just included a firewall and did not disable the windows firewall, there may be a conflict. After that, go to their website since this is directly related to their product. They probably have a support site with FAQ's, common fixes, an email or chat tech, and possibly a forum dedicated to their product. They know their product best and others likely will have the same problem. You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.

Hi! My mother's computer recently needed a clean up so I removed adware, ran scans and all that but there was still a problem with her loading our credit union's website: sdccu.com. I checked on my own laptop, and found the same issue for me and every other computer in the house. Assuming it was a problem with Verizon fios, I contacted their fios support line only to be met with a message stating they were being swamped with an unexpected number of support calls. I tried again today and got the same message. Even their chat support is busy. I'm assuming it's a problem with Verizon, since I've used a down or not site, pinged repeatedly, tried different browsers, rebooted my modem, reset the system, followed multiple instructions in the forum, etc. My question is, does anyone know if Verizon is having these issues? I've only found a few forum posts complaining of similar problems and that's it. Normally, it wouldn't be a big deal, but sdccu.com is a website my mom uses to transfer money and pay bills so it's important. My mom can access the site through her iphone when she connects to a different network however, her iphone does not connect at home, as expected. Anyway, thank you for your time.

I started having a problem yesterday on all of my computers (desktop and two laptops). Some websites, such as Google, Yahoo, and Facebook, will load but almost everything else will not load. I'll get the "Problem loading page" message in any browser (Firefox, IE, Chrome). Luckily, I am able to access a few computer help forums like this one and found people with similar problems. As had been recommended in those threads I tried downloading various programs for removing adware/spyware/viruses and cleaning the registry. I tried Adwcleaner, MalwareBytes, SuperAntiSpyware, CCleaner, and my AVG antivirus. A few threats showed up on each, but none of them appeared to be serious threats, and removing them did nothing to solve the problem. If this is relevant, all of my computers run some form of windows (Vista, 7, and 8). I just had my modem replaced a few months ago, and I don't know how that would stop only certain websites from functioning. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Hi blorb and to Bleeping Computer Forum

I started having a problem yesterday on all of my computers (desktop and two laptops)

This would confirm that it's with your ISP server connections problems on sites being block or loaded. Have you called them on the issue? See also the link below on how to ping websites not loading.

Hi, I'm hoping someone here can help me.

I've found that since about a week ago, certain websites refuse to load on my laptop, the only sites that will load are this one, Facebook, Youtube, Google and other Google sites, Reddit, and some others. I've tried flushing the DNS, changing the TCP4 server and several other things, yet on any internet network or any browser other sites refuse to load!

If any of you know how this can be fixed then please let me know. Thanks a lot in advance

If just on your network, this can happen and turning off the router for 15mins often, fixes this type of issue

okay i'm pretty new at all this forum stuff so forgive me if i mess up. but recently, a couple websites that used to load on my computer won't load. Especially myspace. i can click on links to view profiles, but the background just stays gray and it says it's done loading. it's not the myspace website with the problem because my roomate can get on it just fine. a couple other websites won't work either. it's basically websites that have a lot of stuff on their page (i'm sorry if i lost you guys, i'm not really internet-lingo smart) such as abc.com or other tv websites. i've done virus scan a bunch of times and everytime nothing comes up. it's been like this for about a month now. any suggestions? thanks!

Hello. I'm having this problem: some websites won't load under certain conditions, no matter what browser I use (chrome, firefox and IE8). When I try to right click a link and press 'open in a new tab' it will most porbably not work. It gives me this error:

Firefox nu găsește serverul www.wowcooc.com. (FF can't find the server <server>)

Hi,

I have a PC on windows XP Professional and I have been having trouble downloading some websites on both firefox and IE. Others work fine, but facebook and amazon and yahoo answers won't load. There might be other websites that I can't load either, but these are the ones that I know about. Basically, I can go onto the facebook login page by googling facebook. I can type in my e-mail adress and password and try to log in, but it gets stuck. The status bar says: Waiting for static.ak.facebook.com

With amazon, it gets stuck on "Wiating for g1-ec2.images-amazon.com".

I think I've done some basic things like clearing cache, etc. I have also uninstalled both firefox and IE and re-installed them, but to no avail.

I read your post about running HijackThis and have done that and I have attached my log. I hope I did it all correctly!

Any help would be really appreciated!

Answer:Some websites won't load - HJK log

Welcome to Major Geeks!

Problems like you are mentioning are frequently not related to malware. It is to random to be malware. However by just looking at a HijackThis log we cannot tell whether you are free from malware or not since HijackThis logs by themselves do not provide an adequate picture of your PC's malware status. If you want to check your PC for malware you need to run the steps further down after the ===== bar.

You may want to try a couple other simple things first like these:

power cycle your DSL or cable mode
power cycle your router
I have even seen cases where firmware updates to a router were necessary to fix problems like this but this is less likely
Also try this, Go to Start > Run and type in cmd

Click OK.
This will open a command prompt.
Type or copy and paste the following line in the command window:
ipconfig /flushdns
Hit Enter
Exit the command window
Also download HostsXpert and then follow the below steps.

Unzip HostsXpert.zip
[*]It will create a folder named HostsXpert in whatever folder you extract it to.
[*]Run HostsXpert.exe, click Restore Microsoft's Hosts File and then click OK.
[*]Click the X to exit the program

For over the past month I have two websites that I know of that will not load. Both of the sites are active and other people on other computers can access them. The sites were working for me previously. I have tried to load them on IE, Firefox & Chrome so I am not sure that it is the these services specifically but some data, download or update to my computer that is blocking the sites. I am usuaully using Windows XP.

I have trouble shooted with the HP folks two different times and nothing we tried worked. I also troubleshooted with other tech forum folks who were friendly and nice but nothing they suggested has worked yet. This seems to be a mystery diagnosis. Anyone with any insight to this type of problem please reply. Diva_Girl

Answer:Certain Websites Do Not Load??

If those websites are working with other browser then something is blocking it from your IE, try checking the add-ons, security software like antivirus program, optimize your browser like delete the cookies, temp files, history and restore to default the security settings and default settings.

I am having a similar problem as Coltrane -
Thread: "anti spyware" popups & some websites wont load

I am getting Pop-ups for antivirus and Malware removal as well as something about a Forex Club.

Also, many sites aren't loading. Google loads, but I can't search with it. Careerbuilder doesn't load at all. A few other sites I use don't load either, I would have to test which don't.

I have ran AVG and Ad-Aware. Bothe have found stuff and removed them. Ad-Aware has ran a full scan about 3 times, each time finding several things to remove.

HiJackThis Log has been attached.

I ran Combo Fix and realized that I hadn't setup the Recovery Console. I set that up after ComboFIX completed scan.

Answer:Pop-ups and Some websites won't load

Hi,

Welcome to Tech Support Forum.

The version of Combofix you are using is old. Please remove the old copy and download the latest copy from here and save it to your desktop.

Double click on ComboFix.exe to run it.

When done, a log will be produced. Please post that log and a new HijackThis log in your next reply.

Do not mouse click on Combofix while it is running. That may cause it to stall.

This problem started suddenly a day or two ago after about a month of using a new Win 8.1 computer.
Most websites won't load: spin for awhile and then give "The connection has timed out" message. Some websites load quickly and easily, though: search engines (Google, ixquick, Yahoo, Wikipedia), my Verizon Yahoo webmail.

Oddly, GoogleMaps won't load from a search engine or from the address bar, but if I go to Google.com and use the Google Apps icon to go to maps, it loads instantly.

Relevant facts:

Win 8.1 on an Asus desktop PC. Automatic update is on.

Using Firefox 40.0.3, fully updated (but Internet Explorer has the same problem behavior)
Home wireless network (my Android tablet does NOT show the same behavior; can connect fine through same wireless connection) No other devices are using the network.

Computer came with free trial of McAfee security. Using that, including McAfee Personal Firewall. No other virus/firewall/security/spam blocker software is active.
I did a search on this problem and all the results I get date back to 2012-13. Then, no one had any solutions. I'm hoping that since then, this problem has been identified and solved!

Any suggestions appreciated. It's driving me nuts!

For about 2 months now, my computer will enter a phase where sometimes it will work and sometimes it refuses to load any website, will then work properly, and will then refuse to load websites again. The problem persists for several days, sometimes beyond a week, then disappears for a while before coming back

I've tried using different browsers, updating my browsers, fixing the browser settings as each one suggests, updating Windows, and restarting the computer. The last time this happened, updating Windows fixed it. Now it's returned.

This is the error message I get when it refuses to load a site on Google Chrome:

This webpage is not available

The connection to ***whatever website URL I'm on*** was interrupted.

Here are some suggestions:
Reload this webpage later.
Check your Internet connection. Restart any router, modem, or other network devices you may be using.
Add Google Chrome as a permitted program in your firewall's or antivirus software's settings. If it is already a permitted program, try deleting it from the list of permitted programs and adding it again.
If you use a proxy server, check your proxy settings or contact your network administrator to make sure the proxy server is working. If you don't believe you should be using a proxy server, adjust your proxy settings: Go to the wrench menu > Options > Under the Hood > Change proxy settings... > LAN Settings and deselect the "Use a proxy server for your LAN"... Hey all, here's my problem:

Some websites on either browser on my computer (Safari or Firefox) simply don't load, or rarely load. I don't know how to resolve the initial issue, but I've been getting around it by using a proxy site, which solves the problem...partially. My new issue is that javascript doesn't work through proxy sites (even if you say to allow it on both our browser and on the proxy site homepage), renderring certain websites unusable. So, I need a way to make those sites work, either by resolving the original problem, or by fiding a way to get the java to load. Any advice?

Answer:Can't load certain websites

Have you cleared your cache and cookies in both Safari and Firefox?

I'm running Microsoft Windows [Version 6.1.7601] on an HP 2000 Notebook. I have a Belkin router (not sure what model).
This problem started while I was watching a Twitch.tv VOD that stopped playing. When I refreshed the page, it wouldn't load at all, and now neither Twitch, Twitter, nor Yahoo websites will load up at all. This is happening on both computers in my house. When I try to browse the sites on my smartphone through mobile data, they work fine, but through wifi they will not load.
I was recent;y able to access a Twitch page by using the secure.twitch.tv link format for some reason, but the VOD still doesn't load. Not sure what that signifies.
I tried a few things I read about online to try and fix it (changing IPv4 settings, manually entering DNS server, disabling all website filters, ....), but nothing has helped.
I'm not sure if these things are important, a few things I noticed from an"ipconfig /all" run that might be abnormal (I'm not super tech savvy) are: DHCP is not enabled for my Wireless LAN adapter, IP Routing is not enabled, and WINS Proxy is not enabled.

Thanks in advance for any assistance.

My sister asked me to help fix her computer. About a couple of months ago it took about 5 minutes to load when on the Internet. She would click on websites and had to wait for a couple of minutes for it to load. I searched online for a solution and came across the disabling SuperFetch one. That worked tremendously well. But recently it has been acting up again. It takes about 2 minutes for websites to load. I previously ran an Avast and Malwarebytes scan and it came back clean.

UPDATE: I just started another Avast scan to pass the time and it is showing 1 infected file. Scan is still not complete.

First, thanks.

I have a relatively new Windows desktop with XP. I have a DSL connection.

My computer boots fine, applications start right up and many websites load very quickly: My Google home page, Drudge Report, this forum, etc.

Some websites load a little slower but still at a very acceptable rate: mlb.com, espn.com, nytimes.com, etc.

Some websites seem to hang and load painfully slowly. Unfortunately many are newspaper and other sites that I'd like to visit often, LATimes.com, baltimoresun.com, si.com, cbsnews.com, etc.

On my kids' computer (virtually the same system) about 10 feet away on the same DSL connection, these websites load fine.

Here's my log (dss.exe did not create an extra.txt file when I just ran it. Attached is the file that it created earlier today when I posted my log to a different forum. They couldn't figure out what was happening and referred me here):

Are there anymore tests I can do to see whats doing this?

Answer:Websites...Dont Load...Much.

Try this:
Start> Run> type: cmd then hit OK.
At the command prompt, type: ipconfig /flushdns and hit Enter.
Then try loading the site again. You might also try this:
Type about:config in the address bar of Firefox and hit Go.
Find network.dns.disableIPv6 in the list and double click the line to toggle
from false to true. Close Firefox and restart and see if site will open.
In Firefox: Tools> Options> Privacy> Cache> Clear Cache Now. You might also try running Firefox in safe mode.
Start> Mozilla Firefox> Mozilla Firefox(Safe Mode). This will run
Firefox without any extensions and the default theme. If the site loads, then it is an
extension or theme that is effecting Firefox.

I can access other websites such as ebay, speedtest.net, multiply, etc. except for those 3. I have tried deleting temp internet files, caches and cookies but didn't work. The weird thing is, it's all the same for 3 browsers i used (Firefox, IE and Maxthon). Tried pinging the websites and didn't receive any request timed out. I can't figure out what's the problem and what's causing it. I used to access those sites yesterday and i properly shutdown my computer. Then when I turn it back on, I can't get it to work. I saved screen captures..Hope you guys can help..

Answer:Some Websites Does Not Load Properly

And you did a full virus scan on this PC?
Disable Pier Guardian is using that software. Maybe a firewall issue.

Hey I am having some issues loading certain websites, the newest addition to this list is www.foobar2000.org. It seems every so often another site gets blocked.

I have booted into safe mode with networking and all sites work with that.

I have tried both Firefox 3.5 and I.E. 8, and I am running Windows 7 Pro x64

This is driving me nuts! Suddenly a few days ago, I was unable to open certain websites on either Firefox 3.5 or IE 8. I'm running XP Pro on my laptop and the puzzling element here is that the majority of sites are fine. All my FF bookmarks open and, for example Yahoo Sports will open, but ESPN.com will not. Connection either times out or I get the dreaded The connection was reset-The connection to the server was reset while the page was loading. There are numerous similar examples, but no trend or pattern is apparent as to which sites will open and which will not--but it's always the same sites that time out.

I have reset Firefox (reset user preferences to default), disabled all my add-ons, and temporarily disabled my antivirus program (Avast). I've confirmed Firefox is an exception on the Windows Firewall--all to no avail. I've run Malwarebytes, Spybot and Adaware with no malware found. I'm out of ideas!

I've seen and attempted a number of fixes from numerous forums, with no joy. Can anyone assist?

Thanks

Firefox won't load pages like mozilla, facebook, and comcast. IE has no problem with these websites. After doing everything firefox troubleshooting suggests to do when this problem arises, I am still unable to load these pages. I don't have Adblock, so that can't be the issue either.

I have restared my computer, checked my proxy, disabled add-ons, cleared cookies and cache, ran malwarebytes, reinstalled firefox, ran CCleaner, uninstalled itunes (my latest download).

What could be the problem or what could I be doing wrong?

I know this is really retarded and most of the time i'm really good with computers but i'm really frustrated. I use Hughs net which is pretty fast for dial up, I even play WOW with my other computer. And I use google chrome. My computer is fairly new, but it won't load some websites, takes a lot of refreshing, and re-downloading. Which keeps happening more frequently. I know it doesn't have any viruses, and everything is checked and accounted for but I don't know.

Answer:my computer won't load some websites

nincompoop, IMHO, the keyword here is 'some'. All makes me think your security is set too high, but some sounds to me like a nasty (virus, worm, trojan, etc). Be aware that a virus and a Trojan are similar, but not the same. Many times, an AV detects one it can't clean, other times, it gets missed entirely. If you need to clean one, Superantispyware (info only. I?m not paid for recommendation. WARNING! FYI, a full scan on mine takes over an hour.) can do the job and you can get it free @:http://www.superantispyware.com/among other places. They have a Vista compatible version if needed. Dunno about Windows 7 or later. If it turns out that you need to use it, be sure to update Superantispyware prior to running and disable 'restore' (restart after cleaning) so the nasty doesn't get put back. They just released a new update recently and it changes all the time. Things are in a constant state of flux. The restore thing is critical. May not be your deal at all, but won't hurt anything to tryHTH.Ed in Texas.

This started happening earlier today. I can't access some sites. There doesn't seem to be a pattern between them.

3 sites I can't load and get a connection time out error:

Home | Privateer Press
Server Status - Diablo III
Ctrl+Alt+Del - Sick Day: T-shirt idea (2012-08-22)

Other sites like reddit, google, youtube are all load fine.

this is what I get when I tracert Ctrl+Alt+Del - Sick Day: T-shirt idea (2012-08-22)

I've already tried flushing the dns, changing dns manually, and resetting router to factor defaults. The websites will load if I view them via proxy.

I am using Firefox. The same problem occurs if I use Chrome.

This is also affecting other PCs on the network.

Answer:Can't load specific websites.

Just tried power cycling the router. No effect.

Hi there,

I am running IE 9 on Windows 7. Until recently I have been able to view all websites with no problems, however now a lot of websites or parts of websites won't load.

Google works fine, as does facebook however sites like nab.com.au, kfc.com.au and a whole lot of other sites won't load at all. Then I get some websites like ebay that works on the main page but won't load 'my ebay' page.

I've tried updating Java and flash, restoring IE setting to defult, turning off norton, I've Type netsh winsock reset at the command prompt (reccomended in another thread).

So any help would be appreciated.

Hi all,

I'm having problems with my Windows XP machine, I can visit some websites but when I try to visit the following (and I'm sure theirs more) the webpages never complete loading.

microsoft.com
msn.com
hotmail.com
google.com
ask.co.uk
facebook.com
gametribe.com
ebay.co.uk

I'm not sure what to do or what could be the problem with my computer. It was running fine just last week but now I'm having major problems with my internet. The weird thing is that I have several other computers on the same network as my Windows XP machine that has the problem and these computers can access the above websites without any problems.

Looking forward to any advice!

Thanks,
Sacred

Answer:Some websites wont load?

Check your firewall or browser is not blocking access to these to these specific sites, or any anti-malware apps you have running real-time.

Also, when was the last time you did any malware cleaning/preventative maintenance?

Try using something like CCLeaner to clean your machine and then reboot and re-try accessing those sites once the cache is clean.

Hi

My parents have been unable to connect to the internet, the router appears to be working fine, as my mobile has been connecting to it and loading webpages. When they open internet explorer and try and load a page, it will say in the bottom left corner, "website found" but the progress bar will move very slowly and never gets passed the halfway point and the wepage never loads. They did a Malwarebytes and it found some things, which they deleted, the pc was then working fine but the next day it was back to not working. I'm only there once a week so this could be a slow process. Luckily I had Hijack This installed on their PC, so I was able to get a log file, but I couldn't run any of the other software advised on this site. Here is the log, there are a lot of entries that say "FILE MISSING". Can anyone shed some light please?

A couple nights ago while doing research some web pages wouldn't load, or fully load. As of tonight it seems like pretty much no webpages want to fully load. Some will sit there just thinking with a blank screen, some will get a tiny part of the site loaded but never finish. What has gone wrong? I reset Internet Explorer (which is IE 9) hoping that would help. NOPE! There were some Windows update that the computer did not quite sure when, so I don't know if that has anything to do with it. I would just like my internet back. Can someone please help? Thanks

Answer:Websites won't fully load

I should also add that I have never gotten an error message no matter how long I let it sit there. Also every other computer, cellphone or what not that is connected to this network doesn't have a problem.
