Asus G73SW No LAN Connection

Question: Asus G73SW No LAN Connection

Hey guys,

I need some hellppppppp. I have an Asus G73SW Laptop and the network connection has been spotty as of late.

Readers Digest Version: Worked fine yesterday nothing has change in my connection settings, router settings or server settings. (Computer is located at work in an AD setup, I am first level IT Support here) Router shows as it is getting a connection from the network card which is a Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller with latest drivers right from realtek (and asus version tried too). But is not connecting at 10/100 or 1000. (Have two connection sources to test to).

What I have tried:
- Tried it on a 10/100 router and a gigabyte switch
- Multiple cat5's
- Performing a clean uninstall of the driver and reinstall both from the Asus and Realtek websites of both drivers.
- Disabling the lan rebooting, enabling he lan and trying to connect.
- Disabling power save multiple times.
- Checking bios for any lan options (which there was surprisingly very little options)
- Latest bios firmware
- Tried changing the duplex to 10/100 for the hell of it!

May try:
- Reinstalling windows. *sigh*

I had this problem a couple weeks ago, I went into the bios and enabled PXE boot when into windows and it was suddenly working as usual again. Went back to bios disabled PXE and it was still working fine. I did it again today to no avail....

I think I am running out of options and may possibly be facing a failing network card?

Please assist! =)

Preferred Solution: Asus G73SW No LAN Connection

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I've had my laptop for about 2 months and it recently started shutting down. I'm pretty sure its not over heating because it sometimes happen when I'm not using it and it just on the desktop although i have checked the fans/vents and only the top right one seems to pumping out air.

Oh and about 5 minutes before it shuts down it starts to run extremely slow.

Answer:Asus G73sw shuts down unexpectedly

At risk of being obvious, it sounds a bit like malware - have you had chance to scan it? (or is it off too much)

Hello Everyone,

Got my Asus G73SW notebook about a week ago but it keeps throwing up BSODs randomly. I don't have to run some resource intensive programs, sometimes it even occurs when being idle on my desktop or starting up windows. I hoped SP1 would fix it but to no avail so you are my last hope.

Hi, I was just wondering if it's normal for my laptop to slow down when it's running on battery. When I play Mass Effect 2 using AC, everything runs smoothly, bu when I am running on batter, it's a little laggy.

Answer:Asus G73SW slows down when running on Battery

I wouldn't suggest trying to play high requirement games on batteries.
Most laptops are set to throttle themselves in order to save battery life when unplugged.
These settings can be found in the control panel.
Under power options.
You can probably fix the problem but battery life could be cut down to as little as 20 or 30 minutes if left on full blast.

I have an Asus G73sw laptop with some BSOD problems after a fresh installation of windows. The BCC's are listed as follows 7E, 0, C4, 24, 124, A, 109, 24, D1, 7F, F4, and 50. I have yet to have any crash while in safe mode. The hdd has passed Seatools HDD test long and short as well as 14 rounds of memtest. CHKDSK finds no errors. Sometimes I'll have the PC lock up and show no activity on the HDD LED.

Thanks in advance for any help.

I'm here due to a long standing issue of not getting the reported speeds by Charter in my household. Basically I'm paying for a 30mb plan and I'm only getting around 10-15mb verified through Ookla. The hitch is that while the computers in our household report only 10-15mb (2 separate laptops, and even the first tech Charter sent out), the final techs came out with their laptop and were able to get a 50mb connection with no troubleshooting. This leads me to believe that either a wireless card or driver is having problems but I'm just not sure where the problem truly lies due to multiple computers having the issue and the problem occuring both hardwired into the modem and through wifi. I actually get 15mbps through wifi and only 10 hardwired to the modem for some reason.

Here's my rundown.

1. Wired and Wireless issue

2. ISP - Charter

3. Connection - Cable

4. Router - DLink WBR-1310 Firmware 1.04 , Modem - Motorola SB6121 (has been switched out by techs)

5. No antivirus installed. Malware bytes as a cleaner. (has been run, I'm clean)

6. See 3 attached files.

I am unsure of my wireless card's serial number but the only driver I had found to kick start my wireless after reinstalling windows was an Atheros driver. It shows Atheros AR9285 Wireless Network Adapter but that may be due to installing that driver. I'm unsure on that side of things due to Asus having different wireless LAN downloads on their site here.

Answer:Not getting internet speeds provided on an Asus G73SW through Charter

Ok, using outdated wireless G will be like a bottle neck on the connection speed. You should really try measuring with a wired connection to get a true reading. If you don't have a wireless N router then consider upgrading the router as it's the only way to improve the connection speeds for the wireless.

If you want better speeds get an N router set to 802.11N only and not mixed using WPA2 personal security with AES encryption. The mixed wireless settings will hold you back on connection speeds limiting you to 54Mbps "network speeds not ISP".

This old router is a relic and using WEP security is not reliable, fast or safe.

With this nice of a laptop you really are holding it back with this old router. I'm surprised the connection even works with a router this old and the LAN speeds being slower than the wireless just isn't right and I doubt it's a problem with the Asus laptop. You should only need to update the laptop via Windows Update Center, this will fix most every problem if there is one.

If you want better speeds you need to update your router/hardware.

Other than that it's all on the ISP and everyone complains they aren't getting the advertised speed. Too many variables to mention here and there isn't a single solution that can fix this but updating that router would be my first move.

Hi there,
I need help deciphering the cause of the BSOD in my laptop. The circumstances are not always the same when it happens. Mostly what's open at that time is Outlook 2010, Firefix browser (Typo3 website updates), Pandora (not necessarily playing).

I have done exhaustive hardware tests and no matter how hard or long I stressed it I could not replicate BSOD this way. My suspicion is a driver. I am attaching SF Diagnostic Tool output folder zipped. Please see if you can kindly help!

Answer:BSOD ~weekly while using Outlook,etc unclear cause (Asus G73SW/W7)

Hi jap.

You need to update the USB3 driver.

The one available with ASUS is even older that the installed one.

Get it from FRESCO LOGIC INC.===Leap into SuperSpeed===

Let us know the situation after updating the driver.

Hi all,

I just purchased my new ASUS G73sw about two weeks ago. Performed a clean installation of Windows 7 64bit, and all of my software (All legal).

I have received 4 crashes at random times, each time my PC has been asleep for an extended period of time.

The .dmp file is saying the probably cause is: ntoskrnl.exe

No clue what to do here. I would prefer NOT to do a clean installation just because reinstalling and resetting everything takes forever. Is there an easy update/fix here?

Thank you in advance for your help.

Question: X8100 or G73SW?

I'm looking to buy myself a new laptop since i blew up my old computer.
I'm looking for something thats considerably powerful for around $2500.

I've come down to a choice between a clevo X8100 and an asus G73SW-A1 both of which i want to modify a little by putting an SSD in and extending the warranty to 3 years on the one I buy.

I've never even heard of clevo before so despite a review I read MALIBAL VEDA Series Performance, Benchmarks and Conclusion
I'm still skeptical about it. Also the Clevo I'm looking at is different to the one in this review.

I live in Australia so I have to deal with gst and other junk if i buy overseas

So This is the place that I have found to buy them.
G73SW-A1
ASUS G73SW laptop notebook - G73SW-FHD-TZ016V - G73SW-A1 - 17.3 inch gaming laptop with GTX 460M

Clevo
Metabox X8100 - Clevo X8100 laptop notebook - CrossFire ATi HD 5870 graphics - 18.4 inch Gaming laptop

Which way should I go?
each one will wind up being roughly $2500-$2600 after SSD
Also are there any trustworth reviews on the Clevo?

Answer:X8100 or G73SW?

Never heard of Clevo. ASUS is #1 in my book.

Hey all. I need help.

I have the Asus PCE-N15 wireless card in my pc, and I can't get it to connect to my workplace's proxy server. First of all, there is a username and password, but when I configure my settings through the asus driver, I don't have that option. When I try to connect via the taskbar, and it asks me to type those in, I do, but it won't connect, and the troubleshooter can't find anything. I have my proxy settings set up to connect to the proxy server and the correct port, but still, nothing. Somebody help me out here, I have no idea what to do!

I'm running Windows 7 Home Premium, and using a ASUS USB-N13 Adapter to connect to my ASUS RT-N16 Router. I am able to connect to the network with no problems, however every 10-15 minutes I will be disconnected. I am almost positive the issue is with this computer or the adapter, because I have no wireless connectivity problems with my xbox.

After being disconnected, there are 2 ways that I get the connection back. I either:
1. Right click the windows wireless network icon (bottom right) and click troubleshoot problems. This seems to turn the adapter on and off during the automated troubleshooting and is then usually able to connect.
2. In the ASUS software, I click "IP Renew" and this can sometimes fix the problem.

Sometimes I am able to stay connected for hours, while other times it disconnects every few minutes. I have no idea what the problem is, and I know my way around computers pretty well but I am not well versed in networking. It seems to me that it might be an issue with the IP address and maybe I could manually set one up? I have no idea!

Answer:ASUS USB-N13 cannot hold a connection

have you updated the wireless driver at all?

would you post the following tests when the internet is working OK, and then repeat ALL the tests when the internet disconnects.
Make sure you also indicate on the reply which tests are for what condition.

please include the xirrus screen shots for both conditions - see how below.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
ipconfig /all
If you cannot access the internet with this PC, then you will need to paste the results into something like notepad and then copy onto a machine that can access the internet and post the results in a reply here.
Save the file to a USB flash drive or other removable media. Plug it into the working computer with internet access and copy the file and paste here.

We would like to see the results from an ipconfig /all - post back the results in a reply here.

This should also work for windows 8
Hold the Windows key and press R, then type CMD then press Enter to open a command prompt box
(A new dialogue box - black with white font, will appear on screen ):

In the command prompt window that opens, type the following command:

Note that there is a space before the /ALL, but there is NOT a space after the / in the following command.

ipconfig /all > network.txt & network.txt

It will export the results into notepad and then automatically open the notepad and display on your screen.

Now all you need to do is copy and paste those results into a reply here

Most laptops have either a key combination or dedicated switch that toggles the wireless on and off. I would check to see if maybe you accidentally disable the wireless on your laptop.

hello againI am building my own pc using the asus p4t533 motherboard.I have a Flatron LCD 563L3 monitor that uses the stardard monitor port on my present pc.when looking on the back of the asus motherboard I noticed that there is not a monitor port. Can someone tell how I can get around this as I don't want to buy another monitor? Are there any other ports that I use instead? Are there any pci card avaiable that as a monitor port on it?Yet another headache to sort out?Beverley

Answer:there's no monitor connection on asus P4T533

You need a graphics card - the motherboard will have an AGP slot (which is the commonest, current type) for a graphics card. AGP graphics cards give superior performance to those built-on to motherboards, so you will be better off. They range in price from 30ish to 300sih pounds - depending on how good you want, and what you want to use it for.A good general purpose card would use an nvidia GeForce4 MX440 chipset - but be manufactured by a wide variety of makers.

am using an A8V Deluxe. I have the onboard LAN disabled and am using a realtek 10/100 pci card to connect to the internet through our router. Everything has worked fine up until now. I cannot connect to our network or (obviously) the internet. All of the hardware is working fine.

On boot up I occasionally get the error messages:
Can not load driver asmihwio.dll
Can not load aslm75.sys

These files are apparently related to AsusProbe, I have discovered, but I can't seem to fix them with uninstall/reinstall of probe, and am pretty sure they are involved with my inability to connect. Anyone had a similar problem? A google search seems to suggest other Asus boards have had similar issues, but no one seems to have a concrete fix.

I was wondering if anyone has some insight to my issue. I have the ASUS RT-N66U connected to a Motorola SB6141 modem using charter communications as my ISP. Maybe 2-4 times a day the internet would drop out. I am not talking about wifi not working, I am hard wired to the router and wireless devices connected and wired devices act the same way when the connection drops. It pretty much brings me to the router set up screen and say it is connected whenever I would try to open up a web page. The way I am able to solve the connection issue is to unplug the cable from the router and plug it straight into my laptop and the connection is good I can open up a web page. Then I have to unplug it from my laptop and then plug it back into the router and everything is good again. What would cause this issue?

Answer:ASUS RT-N66U is dropping connection

Don't know... sounds kinda like a DNS issue.

You need to test this further.

Next time is occurs...

Verify that you can ping the router
Verify that you can ping the next interface up which is the IP address given to the router by your provider.
Verify that you can ping that IP's gateway...usually located at the ISP.
Test for DNS resolution via command line. Google is your friend here.
Looks for error rates in the connection debug on the router for the WAN side.

In the meantime upgrade your router's firmware to the merlin edition

http://www.lostrealm.ca/tower/node/79

Its almost identical to the factory firmware with the exception that merlin is often 6 months ahead on fixing bugs.

Note sure what you are saying but you should probably be using a different SSID and channel for the second AP.

I'm trying to build a PC using an ASUS A8V-VM SE Motherboard, and have got as far as discovering that the DVD Drive I bought didn't come with any cabling. I'm happy that i'll need the relevant 3 pin connector for the audio, but as the connector from the DVD Drive is SATA, i'm not sure if I have the option of connecting to the spare SATA slot on the motherboard *the other SATA quite happily connected to the HDD), or if I must buy a cable to convert the SATA into IDE, and if I would lose any data transfer speed by doing so. I would appreciate any help on this one!

Answer:DVD Drive Connection to ASUS Motherboard

Although I'm not familiar with SATA, I don't see any problem with connecting your SATA DVD drive to any spare SATA motherboard connector. If you run out of motherboard SATA connectors, you can buy a PCI SATA card.

I built a pc a while ago(2yrs): mb asus m5a88v-evo, windows 7 hp, 16gb ram, amd phenom x6 1090t.
couple of months ago the pc couldn't connect to the internet. I've search and done a lot of things trying to fix my internet connection problem, including fixes posted here, to no avail...I even did an os repair install but no luck.
so i want to change mb. what mb do you recommend? i don't play video games, so integrated graphics is fine.
which program to back up all my files and programs? what should i expect from swapping mb's?

Answer:mb ASUS M5A88V-EVO No LAN, no internet connection...want a new mb

There is no reason to buy a new mobo to repair a network adapter which will not connect. You can buy an inexpensive USB wireless adapter or PCI-e ethernet card. But let's see if we can fix it first.

Type Device Manager in Start Search box, click on Network adapter to open it. What does it say on the General and Driver tabs? On driver tab what driver does it say is installed? If the Roll back Driver button is not greyed out try clicking on it.

Now look in the bottom-right System tray for the network connection. What does it say when you click on it. Next rightclick to Troubleshoot the connection. What does it report?

Have you downloaded and installed the latest driver from the Asus Support Downloads webpage for your mobo here: ASUSTeK Computer Inc. -Support- Drivers and Download M5A88-V EVO

You may need the latest Realtek LAN driver as well as the Ethernet Utility shown below it.

You may also need the full chipset to be able to get the LAN to run.

I am currently using an ASUS G51J series laptop with Windows 7.

I bought it last July, and ever since I've been having trouble with internet connections. It's started to bother me so much that I'm going to seek help.

Whenever I visit a page with a large number of images (say, google image search or certain blog pages), my computer disconnects from the network. It does this both at home and at my university. Moreover, it is ONLY my computer that disconnects from the network, the internet itself does not go down.

This also happens when I am downloading large files, like a video game. The same actions on a different computer on the same network does not cause it to disconnect. Only my laptop is having these problems. All my drivers are up to date.

I'm thinking that this has to do with some setting that I have. Does anyone know what it could be? It's very frustrating to have to unplug my router every time I do an image search (yes, unplugging the router for ten seconds fixes the problem every time).

This also occurs with different web browsers, although on different sites. Google images never goes down on chrome, but when I google image search with firefox, the internet's done.

Help appreciated

Answer:Connection issues on ASUS laptop

I saw "All my drivers are up to date" but I still have to start with them. Are the networking drivers the latest from Asus's web site? They should be. If you are relying on Device Manager or Windows Update that could be the problem.

This is happening both with ethernet and wireless connections?

Another good possibility is the need for a stack reset ...

(From a JohnWill post)

TCP/IP stack repair options for use with Vista or 7.

Start, Programs\Accessories and right click on Command Prompt, select "Run as Administrator" to open a command prompt.

Reset WINSOCK entries to installation defaults: netsh winsock reset catalog

Reset IPv4 TCP/IP stack to installation defaults. netsh int ipv4 reset reset.log

Reset IPv6 TCP/IP stack to installation defaults. netsh int ipv6 reset reset.log

Reboot the machine.

Hi everyone,
My ASUS Q302LA laptop which I bought last month has wifi connection issues. Was running fine at work and home, but recently (as last week) began showing that my connection is 'Limited' which makes it pretty useless. No way of connecting to the internet with that.
I've tried:
1. Forgetting the network and reentering my password
2. Restarting the laptop
3. Switching on airplane mode and redoing steps 1 through 2 again.
Nothing seems to help. Also, I know its not my connection either as the laptop I'm using to type this obviously works fine and the other devices and tablets I have work great in regards to wifi connection.
Any ideas how to fix this?

Try this:
Open command prompt
Type ipconfig /release

I've restored to previous settings from yesterday, run my anti-virus software, not sure what can be wrong now. What firewall or security suite is, or ever was, on the system?

I believe you're saying the problem is with wireless. If not, then skip the Xirrus request ...

Please attach a screen shot of the Networks page (don't collapse the Radar, Connection or Signal History) of the Xirrus Wi-Fi Inspector. If you need help with that see TSG Posting a Screenshot. FWIW to take screen shots with Windows 8 or 7 or Vista I prefer to use the built-in Snipping Tool.

Also show ...

Open a (black) Command Prompt window:
Hold the Windows logo key and press r; in the Run box type cmd and click on OK.

Type the following command:

IPCONFIG /ALL

[Note that there is no space between the slash and ALL.]

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter.
Paste the results in a message here.

If necessary use a text file and removable media to copy the results to a computer with internet access.

Hi Everyone,

This is a strange and baffling problem. I’m not a complete novice and spent a lot time and tried many different things trying to solve it on my own, but nothing worked. Please bear with me as I’ll do my best to describe the situation.

Some time ago, I decided to build a budget pc to serve mainly as an HTPC of sorts. The idea was to spend the bare minimum initially and then upgrade the system as I go along. I therefore opted for a mobo that has (what I thought was) decent onboard graphics and HDMI output (ASUS M4A78LT-M) so that I could hook it up directly to my TV (Toshiba Regsa). As I mostly work on my laptop, I don’t have a computer screen (and no real reason to buy one).

Here are the system’s specs:
Mobo: ASUS M4A78LT-M
Processor: AMD Athlon II X2 250 3.0Ghz
CPU cooler: Stock
RAM: 4GB (2 X Crucial DDR3 PC3-10600; 3.25GB usable)
HDD: Western Digital Caviar 500GB
ODD: Pioneer DVR-A18LBK</SPAN>
OS: Windows 7 Professional (32bit, SP1)
From the start the video outputs gave me a headache. Working with the VGA connection, I was trying to install Windows XP on the machine, but the screen kept going blank after POST and giving the onscreen message &#8220;&#8220;unsupported video format&#8221;. I almost gave up thinking it was a compatibility issue with my TV or that the modo was DOA, but then I tried to install Windows 7 and suddenly everything worked fine. After installing the OS, I updated the bios to t... Read more

My mobo has a two pin thermal sensor connection. The manual says it's for measuring power supply temperature; providing your PSU has a sensor built in. Mine happens not to. So, ray=ther than have it sitting there doing nothing, I was thinking it would be neat to hook up some type of temperature sensor to it & use this to measure a case temperature. The problem is I cannot find out what sort of sensor the connection is designed for. All I know is that there is a voltage of around 36 v across the terminals. This suggests to me a resistance type thermometer. But without being sure of the calibration included for in the BIOS, it's anyones' guess what the resistance/temperature characteristic should be for the sensor. Then there is the issue of getting the right socket on the end of it.Any one got any ideas please or suggestions where to look. I have tried the Asus website. No help there.

Hi,

I have a problem where my internet connection will drop at least once a day. I have Windows 7 Business x64. It will first simply stop working, as in it looks like it's connected, it still has a public IP but I can't ping out and no browsers work, nor any games etc (you get the picture). If I try release/renew it'll either hang or give me a 169-address. To fix it I have to reboot my computer and it starts working again.

I have an Asus P5KC motherboard using the Win7 Windows Update drivers, and it's been like this pretty much since the start. I've turned off all power saving modes everywhere I could find and any sort of hibernation settings, and still it'll cut off almost always once a day. (I have a VNC server so I can log on from work, so I can tell when it 'crashes'.)

What's funny is that it often doesn't happen when I'm on the computer, it's mainly when I've been gone for a bit. That's not to say it hasn't happened when I've been at it, it's just more uncommon.

It's setup to a switch which in turn is connected to my modem. What's telling me that it isn't neither the modem nor the switch that has the problem is the fact that I have a mediastation which doubles as a webserver also connected to the router and it has never once cut out. I've tried switching the ports on the switch (ha-ha) to no avail.

I've been thinking about installing the Vista x64 drivers from Asus but I'm leery of trying because I don't know how similar the two systems are.

Is this a general issue... Read more

Hi there,

I have a problem with my ASUS M2400N Laptop.

1. Cannot connect to the Internet
I have no idea how this happens. I have Googling for like 3-5 days, but still no result.
The M2400N ASUS laptop has the Intel Pro Wireless 2100 LAN 3B PCI Adapter.
Version of driver is 1.2.1.1 or 1.2.4.7 something.

The situation is
It can detect the Wireless network in this house, but it cant connect to the wireless.
The 'View Available Network' window sometimes says that is it Connected, but sometimes it's Not Connected with the yellow star next to it.

When I repair the connection it is stuck at the 'Connecting to the wireless network'.
Something like "Windows could not finish: Connecting to the wireless network' error thing.

Whenever I check the Services.msc, the Spectrum24 Event Monitor Service could not be started.
Thus, the RoamMgr is also not started.

In addition, when I check the Administrative Tools>Event Viewer, I notice that Spectrum24 Event Monitor (s24evmon.exe) cannot start because 's24trans' is missing or so. And it's really missing in the regedit, compared to this ASUS laptop that I'm using to post this message.

I'm really tired of reinstalling, uninstalling Intel Proset both driver and hardware and also ATK Utility, as well as googling for days and such.

There is no Recovery CD for that problematic laptop.
I have tried applying my M6000N series recovery CD to it (as both laptop has same Internet PCI Adapter), but it is still giving... Read more

Hi there,

I've installed a new ASUS 802.11n Wireless LAN Card (PCIe) into my box (Win7 32-bit, i5 750, 4GB) that used to be connected for years to my Netgear 802.11g router WIRED without any problems.

I currently have my laptop and a printer connected to it. In fact, I did have a basic box wirelessly connected to the same network via a USB wireless stick.

Here is the thing, the ASUS card does detect the network signal but refuses to connect to it. I have checked the SSID and all passwords are correct.

Any tips? Its annoying the crap out of me because I've installed quite a few of devices to this network before but I can't crack this one. :cry

Let me know pls if you need more info.

Cheers

Answer:ASUS Wireless LAN Card connection problems

Off hand it could be a couple of things.
Recheck firewall settings.
Did you load another application when you installed the card? Could be a conflict with the Windows app.
Any specific error messages?
Do you have MAC filtering enabled on your router and forgot to add the new adapter's MAC to the list?
Can you check in the Network and Sharing Center, click on the wireless connection and click on details to see what IP address is assigned? Does it have a 169.254.xxx.xxx, which would mean it is not talking to the router?

Hi,

I?m having an issue with my laptop (other than my main PC in the specs), specs in attach. The problem is kind of weird. On very few wifi places (one of them my former appartment, now Eduroam at school), the internet connection is not working well. Windows saying its connected and "Diag nad repair" option finds no problem, but like half of internet pages are not working, sometimes majority, sometimes minority. Sometimes my Outlook connected through exchange works, sometimes not. Sometimes only frame of the page loads and some images are missing. Other devices are of course working fine at the same time. Tried updating drivers from Win Update, Asus drivers for wifi connection are impossible to download (archive corrupted) but they are 4 yrs old anyway.

My tip is something with DNS is broken, as something works, something not (DNS translation), sometimes something works in one browser and not in other. Any clues on how to fix it?

Thanks

Hello, I have been experiencing a major and annoying Wi-Fi connectivity issue with my Q500A that I can't figure out. Hi Bgeo25 and welcome to Tenforums.

Looking at the drivers here, I see they've got W10, W8 & W7. They also have BT. Have you updated your BT as well? Because it's all related. IDK but, sometimes rolling back drivers helps. I purchased this laptop in January of this year, and have been having problems off and on since the beginning. I have been in contact with Asus, and we brought it into Best Buy a couple of times, but since the problem is intermittent, they were unable to see it in action. They suggested that I use the laptop on another network before bringing it in again, to see if it works then, but I have not been able to spend enough time on another network yet to really tell. Also, other laptops in the house function just fine on our network, so I doubt the problem lies in our network.

Details:
-the main problem is that I suddenly lose internet browsing capabilities (and/or it gets extremely slow), though my computer status says it is still connected to our router. This can happen as little as a couple times a week, or as much as every few minutes for days on end. It is currently happening every few minutes, as I disconnect and reconnect every time I lose internet, and it will work again for a few minutes
-our wireless router is an Asus, purchased late last year, and is pretty top of the line
-our modem speeds have been tested, and there is no problem there
-I have edited all the power-saving settings, to make sure the wireless adapter is running at maximum performance all the time
-occasionally the computer itself will get quite slow as well, when opening programs and windows, etc
-I have done scans for viruses and spyware
-I have run all computer updates, and driver updates

Hi Bgeo25 and welcome to Tenforums.

Looking at the drivers here, I see they've got W10, W8 & W7. They also have BT. Have you updated your BT as well? Because it's all related. IDK but, sometimes rolling back drivers helps. This is kind of tricky, and sometimes you really have to mess around with the different drivers to find the right solution. And, Windows Update will many times give you a different version that what you find at the OEM's web site. Did you also install their "software" that goes with it? Just be sure, when you delete the device, delete the drivers as well (there's a box to check), then reboot, and install the next driver you want to try. Also, in th... Read more

Hi. I have had this asus 1000h for 4 months- all worked great. Till 2 days ago when I lost bluetooth and usb internet sharing with my blackjack. And it wouldn't wake up after hibernating. Regular wireless was fine. Then I tried repairing registry errors with share/free ware program- 1st time to use it, my computer froze on black screen. I shut down with power button- and it wouldn't reboot. Tried again, and I got error message- restart in safe mode--regular mode- or back to a known working point. Since I didn't know what the problem was, I restarted in Normal mode- the message I got was There wasn't a fat 32 system detected, so nothing could work( I'm paraphrasing and trying to remember What I saw.) So I took the opportunity to upgrade with 2 Gb ram and 320 Gb hard drive. Bios recognized ram upgrade as over 2 ,000 MB detected. And hard drive was partitioned to 160 Gb and 144 Gb(?) not exactly adding up to 320. (this was after new install) So I used the recovery disc to reinstall the default settings to the new hard drive. So far, everything seems to work except the wireless connection. I pow wowed with opt on line support--nothing is wrong on their end. I can connect with the router with 4 bars, but states little or no conectivity . When I hit repair connection I get( can't renew IP address.) I tried releasing IP address from computer and unpluging modem and router, reconnecting and repairing, didn't work. Any Ideas? PS -- My old hard drive ... Read more

Answer:asus 1000h lost wireless connection after recovery

First off, your amorphous blob of text is impossible to read!

From what I can glean from the post, you can't connect wirelessly?

My top suspect here is the fact that the router is probably encrypted and you are not entering the correct encryption key.

I have a ~3 year old Asus X552e laptop which has begun regularly losing the Wifi connection perhaps 2-3 times per day.  Fixes I've tried include updating the wireless adapter drivers, changing the power settings so that Wifi does not switch off when in power-saving mode, and running the troubleshooter if and when it does go off.  The connection always comes back upon restarting, but obviously time and sometimes work is lost by losing all browser activities and having to restart the whole system. This began happening within the last 2 months or so; it occurred to me that a Windows 10 update released during that time may have been a partial cause.  Mobile and other devices using the same router have no such issues, so the problem is only with this laptop. Can anyone suggest any possible solutions? Thanks in advance.

Hello. I've just updated my 2-year-old Asus K55VD laptop from Windows 8.1 to Windows 10. Since then I am experiencing serious problems with connecting to internet: no wifi network is found, and actually it seems the wifi hardware is not even found; same story for the LAN connection, as I connect the cable no connection is found. I think the problems is triggered by the drivers. On Asus support web site all I can find is outdated drivers (2013 in the best case). Any idea of how to solve this problem?
Emanuele

Answer:Why don't I have an internet (LAN/wifi) connection working on my Asus K55VD after updating to Win10?

Hi
I'm having exactly the same problem! No WiFi and no LAN after the upgrade. I even tried with 2 different USB WiFi adaptors and they also didn't worked!!
I will try in few days a clean install from the ISO using the new key I've got after the upgrade. It's hard to believe the WiFi and LAN of this computer is not supported by Windows 10 without installing additional drivers. I believe they are quite common hardware components.

I just installed this card in my PC to replace some wired connections, and merde alors, this card is fast!

The rather skimpy install "manual" says to adjust network performance, "Click on the Advanced button on the Survey page.
Then what? I can't see anything about adjusting antennas or doing any other configuration to optimize performance?

What did I overlook?

CPU: AMD64 Athlon X2 4400+
Motherboard: ASUS A8N32-SLI DELUXE
Memeory: SAMSUNG PC3200 2GB (1GB x 2) DDR400
GPU: ASUS EN7600GS SILENT PCI Express 512MB DDR2
PSU: 550W SILENT KING-4 SUPER SILENT SWITCHING POWER SUPPLY
HDD: 300GB SATA II

Status: After installing Windows XP SP 2 and the ASUS motherboard installation CD, the system won't take the drivers for the GPU. System boots to the Windows XP loading screen and remains there. The little green bar just keeps moving like it's loading Windows but it loops forever. Again, this started happening right after installing the nVidia drivers from the graphics card installation disc. If I power down manually and then power back up again, I can go into "the last known good" but every time I try to load drivers again, the system starts doing this. The latest drivers from nVidia cause the same issue. I'm starting to think this is a driver conflict with the ASUS motherboard chipset or the motherboard RAID drivers. Has anyone else had a problem like this?

Answer:ASUS A8NSLI-32 Deluxe + ASUS En7600GS Silent Trouble

Followup: I was able to fix it and thought I'd post this info since it might help others who might have the same problem. After reading through dozens of pages here and in the ASUS forums, I discovered that one of my default BIOS setting mysteriously ended up in a non-default state. For some reason, the RAID option for Silicon Image was set to RAID. That's fine for those how actually want to setup RAID but I didn't plan to use RAID at the time. After making the change to the BIOS, I had to install Windows XP again to get everything registered correctly. Once Windows was up and running, I avoided the motherboard chipset install CD all together by using only the newest versions of all the motherboard drivers directly from the ASUS website. Problem solved!

Tried to get HP support to give some similar board model from ASUS' own models so I could get the correct Asus AI Suite to control fans, read system info. The similar Asus model they gave didn't even have the same chipset. I'm not sure if that truly matters as far as their AI Suite working correctly. Just need a reliable program to adjust case fan speeds a bit. Simpler is better.

1) Does anyone know how I can cross the HP / Asus board w/ some similar model on Asus' site to get the correct version of AI Suite?

2) If no to # 1, suggestions on reliable prgms that will allow controlling fan speeds?
Fairly sure this mobo has the ability to adjust fans. 1st tried SpeedFan - no options to adjust any fans (reports them), but MSI Afterburner had no trouble adjusting GPU fan.

None of several socket 775 boards I looked at on Asus' site had G33 chipset.

The info HP has for this mobo is

Manufacturer's motherboard name: Asus IPIBL-TX
HP/Compaq name: Burbank-GL8E
Form Factor Micro-ATX: 24.4 cm (9.6 inches) x 24.4 cm (9.6 inches)
Chipset Intel G33
Front-side bus speed 800/1066/1333 MHz (processor dependent)
Processor upgrade information
Socket type: 775

Thanks.

HI all,

I am having problems detecting the Xonar Pheobus and have tried all the pcie slots with no luck. Red and the grey - even the shorter grey slot.

Have disabled the motherboard's HD onboard sound too and still not detected in my devices......

The pcie cable is connected to the sound card and I have enough PSU to power all - Enermax 1250W.

When the card is inserted to the grey slots - The red light is seen through the control extension box (Headphone/Microphone Connector box) jack ports. However the green light is NOT seen AND the Xonar Phoebus logo on the card itself is lit (powered up)

However, when I insert the card into the red pcie slots these lights are not on.

One this else I noticed is the card DOES go warm over some time so tells me it is 'not' switched off........

I tried to install the driver and I get a message 'no card detected' etc etc.
Is there anyone kind enough to advise me their BIOS settings etc who has managed to get the Xonar to work properly. Did you have to adjust any BIOS settings from default to get the card to be recognised?

Printscreens would be cool if it is not too much of a bother.

Thank you in advance

Kind regards

Killershadow

Answer:Asus Xonar Phoebus and Asus Rampage 5 Extreme issue

The question(s) I have is ->
Am I missing anything when attempting to install the sound card? I have tried with no GPU drivers (including the Nvidia sound for the GTX 750 ti sc) / disabled onboard HD sound and still the sound card not detected.
Even in this motherboard, it should detect the sound card regardless of what sound source is set as default and then allow me to install it and set it as default (without messing about with the BIOS)?
Maybe my sound card has died when moving it from the last computer - Static death.....................
Thanks

Hi.
Not sure I understand how you could perform a factory reset if you don't have the recovery partition available. You should have gotten an error that the ASUS Recovery Partition could not be found.

You would need to get to a working computer and download either the Media Creation Tool for W10, or the current ISO from MSTechBench. You can use RUFUS to create a bootable flash drive, and then install W10 that way.

You might also want to check the health of your hard drive, to make sure it's not failing.

Hope that helps!

Hello im having a problem with my ASUS Laptop K401U. It just started about 2 hours ago, so whenever I turn on my laptop it just stuck on the ASUS Logo with spinning circle under itI still can access the BIOS, but dont know what to do about it though.

I didnt install any update for windows before this.
I tried searching for solutions in youtube and many other forums, some said try to restart the laptop few times until "automatic repair" comes up, by holding the power button until it is turned off. I already restarted more than 10 times already and the automatic repair thing doesnt show up. It looks like this:

Sorry for my bad english
Any solutions?

Answer:ASUS Laptop stuck on ASUS Logo with spinning circle under it

Hi hakushoddd. Welcome to the TenForums @hakushoddd

Its a timing thing. Start your computer, as soon as you see the spinning dots hold down the power key until it shuts down. Start again and again as soon as you see dots hold power key down. On the next boot it should give you the menu.

If you can get into the BIOS I would shut down Fast Boot.

Failing all of the above, do you have boot media?

Hello,
I have in my possession an Asus X550CA laptop which was running Windows 8.1 before it failed to boot. The machine cycled through the automatic repair, failed, and then did nothing. The advanced bootup options were useless, including chkdsk, sfc and the usual suspects. The recovery partition was apparently missing, atleast, I couldn't use it, but doing a diskpart confirmed it was there so I suspect the 8.1 upgrade broke the link to it.

I tried the "refresh your PC" option, but this told me the drive was locked, and disabling secure boot via the BIOS did nothing (thought it would at first). In addition, the reset your PC option wanted recovery media which I didn't have at the time.

I ordered the official Asus recovery DVDs as the laptop did not have media created when it was new, hit F9 and went to the "reset your PC' option, but it told me the recovery media wasn't valid. Odd given it's official Asus media from Mentor Media, for that specific machine.

From the legacy BIOS I booted from the DVD, it loaded the Asus specific Windows 8 recovery options from the disk and I get as far as "Start rebuild Windows system process", with "processing...." underneath and the machine does no more.

I've also tried UEFI booting from the DVD drive and get the same as above.

Any suggestions welcome please!

Regards.

Answer:Unable to restore Asus X550CA using Asus recovery DVDs

Is the ASUS recovery media Windows 8.0 or 8.1? It may be because the recovery disks are 8.0 and it's a conflict because your now running 8.1. The 8.0 to 8.1 upgrade does break the factory recover feature on some laptops. ASUS for sure I think. I have a K75DE, that shipped with Windows 8.0. I clean installed with Windows 8.1 from here, Create installation media for Windows 8.1 - Windows Help. It reads and uses my 8.0 OEM embedded code and activates online automatically. no muss no fuss. That tool will create a bootable USB thumb drive that will work with UEFI for you. If you need any more info just ask and i'll see if I can help. I don't know why your getting the "Start rebuild Windows system process" message and the lock up? It may be because the partition structure has changed on the Drive. I created a Recovery drive, then swapped in an SSD and it would not work on the SSD. It kept saying required partition missing. That's why I bailed and did a clean install. I was leaning in that direction anyway.

EDIT: If I don't get back to you tonight don't panic. I have company coming and may not get back online until tomorrow morning. Have to go now.

Asus has some way of starting their programs that I can't find. In particular, I want to disable their Wireless Console 3 (wcourier.exe). There are other programs but I can't remember what they are right now. I can only tell you that is does not show up in msconfig or HJT. Does anybody know where I can find these startup entries?

Thanks!

Try using Sysinternals Autoruns.
It lists a lot more than msconfig.

You can download the Sysinternals Suite, or just the Autoruns utility.

Greetings,

My almost 3 year old Asus X52 F3SV Notebook suddenly froze and shut itself down today. It will not boot past the 'Asus' logo screen. The furthest it got was 'loading windows', but quickly rebooted once that screen showed up.
It has been running quite hot lately, but i cleaned the fan out last weekend, and it had been running without problem since then.
I'm running Windows Vista Premium, with no other real problems until now, with up to date windows updates and regular Spybot and anti-virus scans.
There were random multicoloured lines running through the Asus screen on the first reboot after freezing. Could it be my graphics card? (Nvidia 8600m). I did not hear any crackling/popping sounds, so I really hope it's not dead yet.
I've looked around these forums, but couldn't find a similar problem/solution.

Thank you.

Answer:Asus x52 F3SV notebook not booting past Asus screen

Try running Bios defaults

This settings area can be called:
Bios Setup
CMOS Settings
System Setup
even just Setup
You can enter it by pressing the keyboard key that is displayed on your screen when first turning on your computer
Its sometimes:
A Fn Button like F1, or F2, or F10 or some other Fn key
DEL key
(whatever the computer states on screen when you first turn on your computer)
Once in Bios Setup, locate Setup Defaults (sometimes called Optimized Defaults)
Apply it, then Save and Exit Bios Settings (which is usually F10, but it will tell you in the Bios Settings screen)

If that doesn't help try reming and re-seating your Ram cards (even your hard drive)
You can download your Manual to find the locations of these components, but they are usually located under the laptop, under the covers

If it is your Video card (onboard) then that was be a big concern
You may need to locate the disassemble guide online, then blow out all internal dust

It may also require a CheckDisk scan
You can read HERE on how to do that outside Windows

Hi everyone,

I recently moved into a larger 2 story house, and for the first few months I was using a Linksys E1000 I've had for about 2 years now. It's a fine single band router, but the people upstairs and the xbox/PS3 in the living room didnt have the strongest connection.

I shopped around and finally got a ASUS RT-N66U for a really good, strong dual band router that would supposedly give better range and performance than my old E1000.

Unfortunately, since I got it everyone is having issues they never had before, namely:

Signal dropping all around the house and having to search for the network
much slower performance than before
the xbox/PS3 cant hold a stable connection even for a few minutes now, when before you could watch Netflix HD programs easily

I've upgraded the Firmware to 3.0.0.3.178 since I heard earlier firmwares had issues, but other than that and opening my ports for qTorrent it is relatively stock settings.

Can anyone help me out with this and figure out with these issues? I may end up needing to RMA it I guess.

Answer:Worse signal on my ASUS RT-N66U than my ASUS E1000?

There's a newer FW out now on the Asus site (x.220). However I use Merlin's modified FW, and find that it's pretty good and stable. He also responds to feedback. You can find it here.

In terms of wireless coverage, my RT-N66U has been ok. Have you tried checking with inSSIDer to see if the 2.4GHz and 5.0GHz channels are overlapping with anything ? It also sometimes helps to change the settings away from auto.

You could also check out the AsusTek forums, as they can be pretty helpful.

So I recently just replaced my Asus P6X58-E WS with another Asus P6X58-E WS from Amazon. I always remember hearing to ignore the drivers disk on CD that comes with product and go straight to web-sight and gather latest. (I ALWAYS keep CD for just in case moments) When I was running Win7 last year on old MB, this was never a issue and downloaded drivers from Asus web site, but when I recently went to the Asus drivers download site, there are no options for win8? (Screen Shot Below)
Here Is my problem... After Installing new MB and testing OS operations with only my SSD pluged in (OS win8 is on SSD) everything was working great!! this also confirmed a few of my last MB memory slots were fried because I had 18GB of memory installed but BIOS & OS was telling me I had only 6GB.. Im back @ 18GB now...
I also had QTY6 1TB-HDD I was using with previous MB ( No raid configurations) I record music and many project files can get very big so, each HDD was dedicated to different "IMPORTANT" things. Well, after confirming OS win8 was in working order, I powered down and plugged in all 6 HDD, then powered back up. (I wish I would have done this one HDD at a time now) only 2 are being recognized!!! I keep getting the message....
"you must initialize a disk before logical disk manager can access it"
Now, from what I've gathered from a Google search, this is what you would do to format a NEW hard drive, Correct? I then was reading its as simple as downloading lates... Read more

Answer:NEW!! Asus P6X58-E WS MB. No Win8 Drivers on Asus website?

From what I found on the Asus site....
ASUSTeK Computer Inc. -Support- Drivers and Download P6X58-E WS
They are only providing drivers up to Windows 7 64 Bit. You can go to the file manager and click one time on the primary HDD and then click computer tab and from there click on manage. From there you click device manager and you will get a list of your hardware. You can right click on each one and click update driver and the system will try to find the updated driver for you. If anything you now have your hardware name and can try to get the updated driver through the actual company who builds the drivers.

It also does sound like you may need to format the HDD's. Do the same thing but instead of clicking on device manager you will click on disk management and you can right click on each drive and select to format. Just make sure to not format the primary partition if that is even possible.

I want to try and install a second sata drive to create a dual boot system (both boots running Windows XP). This is to get around different software interfering with each other on the same drive. The motherboard which is an Asus P5LD2-SE has 4 Sata connectors on it, one of which(SATA 1 Red) is currently occupied by the internal boot drive (a 250gb Maxtor). The connectors are colour coded SATA 1&2 being Red and and SATA 3&4 being black. So there's above and below a red and above and below a black. The motherboard manual says that boot disks should go to SATA 1 or 2 and data to 3&4, however the sound card currently in place seems to block SATA2 and 4. As neither disk is really going to be a data disk and I've no intention to try for any kind of RAID set up would there be any harm in using the SATA 3 connector? (I could move the sound card but that will reduce the air flow around the graphics card and add it's own complications.)

Answer:SATA Connectors on an Asus P5LD2 Asus mboard

Fine, just a slight, virtually unnoticeable drop in access time.

Summary:

I am putting this in the general forum section, and please bear with me. I had posted earlier a thread about my Asus Ultrabook backlit keyboard not illuminated. Thank you all that have responded to that post, but nothing worked. I ended up sending in my Asus for RMA and warranty repairs.

Here is where the fun starts. I first made my case with Asus and they informed me that my Serial Number was invalid. I told them that it is wrong as I bought the Laptop from MemoryLabs.com, which is a Certified Asus Re-seller. It even posts their name on their website in "Where to Buy Asus".

Please do not take this as racist or anything derogative, but the Asus support staff are all located in India, and there is no way to talk to a person in America. The repair facility is also contracted out to a company called BizCom in Milpitas, California. Now, the men and women who work at the support center in India do their best, but to my understanding, they are a separate company working to just take calls. Same with the BizCom company, which they are great, but again contracted so there is nobody who works for Asus or knows Asus's RMA system.

My laptop has been sitting at the repair center with no updates from Asus. When I contact the support center directly, they said the Serial Number was Invalid and that they had to talk to Asus about the warranty service. I though Asus already fixed this when I sent them my Invoice of the Laptop and that it was a certified Reseller?

Answer:Asus UX51VZ-IS71T: Question on Asus Support?

I had correspondence with ASUS via e-mail. It was a while ago now, I think it was a link on their web site. It was a waist of time really. I wasn't impressed. Replies took forever and the answers seemed to be scripted responses. I eventually just gave up asking any more questions. My issue was with creating recovery media. At that time there was no way of creating a recovery disk set in Windows 8.0. The utility I was referred to only worked in Windows 7. It became a non issue when I put an SSD in my laptop and did a clean install of 8.0.

Most of those contracted out call centers go by a flow chart. Ask this question, if the answer is yes, take this branch, if its no, take this other branch. The person asking you the questions may have no technical background at all. As soon as you say I don't know, your basically screwed. Assuming you can actually understand what they are saying. I'm not racist, but I don't think its unreasonable to be able to talk to somebody that is fluent in my native language. It seems to be the luck of the draw sometimes. I've had some that I could understand easily, and some that were almost impossible to understand.

I do see that you have had a similar problem already on this forum but it didn't fix mine (I probably wasn't doing something right).
My Laptop wont start up it goes to the Windows Recovery error page where you have to choose either Launch Startup Repair (recommended) or Start Windows normally. Both of these options lead you to the same result to the Asus Preload Wizard page.
I tried pressing F8 and F9 but didn't get anything.
Appreciate any help you can give me. Thank you

Cheers

However Windows 98 Boot disk worked OK to install.
How do I fix this BIOS problem?
Is there some problem with the CD disk,

Also Windows 98SE does not turn off correctly.
I installed Windows 98SE fix, this ddnot work!!!
How do fix this problem?

Also the Windows 98SE start-up takes to long.
Is there some way to fix this problem?

Are you using one IDE ribbon cable for the cdrom drive?

Installed asus EAH4350 graphics card & software including smart doctor this is supposed to control card temperature, overclocking etc.using XP Pro on startup smart doctor initialises & then reports can't find Asus graphics card. tried downloading & installing latest version same problem. this was a problem 2 years ago is it still a problem? doesn't show a big company like Asus in a good light!

Answer:Asus smart doctor can't see Asus graphics card

Even over clocking the card by 10% is going to result in a card that still can't do much performance wise. I seem to recall they score about 2000 in 3DMark 06 so it's pretty pointless aiming for an overclock particularly as they seem to run fairly hot anyway. If it's the silent version then the only way to adjust temperatures is to under clock it or zip tie a fan to the heatsink. The Catalyst Control Centre will allow you to under/over clock it.

I recently upgraded my system to a P4 running on an Asus P4P800-E Deluxe motherboard. I decided that, for now, I would keep my old graphics card, also an Asus, model V7700 Deluxe (I got this thing for Asus' Deluxes ).

I installed WinXP and immediately noticed these black dots all over the screen like burnt pixels on a dying LCD. I tried a different graphics card and the black dots didn't appear. Tried my V7700 on another motherboard and the black dots also didn't appear. It's like these two equipments are simply incompatible, notwithstanding the fact that they come from the same manufacturer .

Does anyone reading this have the same/similar setup? If so, did you also get black dots on the screen or did your system work fine? In any case, can someone give me a hint as to how I can solve this problem (or if I should just get real and cough up the dough for a new graphs. card)?

Thanks in advance!

I know that that Mobo will only accept 1.5V AGP GFZ cards ( and .8v ) but I cannot find a spec sheet on the ASUS 7700 Deluxe is it a 1.5v card?

sometimes with new mobos you need to clear CMOS to get hardware or even the OS to install correctly.

Same as topic. Wondering if the Hero was worth the extra 50 bucks or so in terms of reliability, features, etc. Reliability is a big factor for me so if you think Hero is a bit more stable for the extra 50$ then please let me know. Thank you!

P.s. In case you were wondering I am building a gaming/video editing pc for around 1500 bucks

Answer:Asus Maximus VI Hero or Asus Z87-A LGA 1150

The Maximus VI Hero is no more stable than the Z87-A. The Maximus is more gamer oriented due to its overclocking features (which the Z87-A has, but not to that extent). If you can get a Z87 Sabertooth, that is probably the best in terms of reliability because it protects the components from dust.

Hi folks, first post to the mg forums, hope it's a friendly place to be, wonder if someone could assist with my queries ? Thanks

I built my own pc about 3yrs ago and am considering some upgrades. just bought two seagate 1TB hdd's to add to my raid arrayed 2x300gb which are full and I'm thinking of doing the cpu next

mobo is asus M2N-E , running XP
cpu compatibility here : http://support.asus.com/cpusupport/cpusupport.aspx?SLanguage=en-us&model=M2N-E&product=1&os=17

I can get this <http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/AMD-Athlon-X2-7850-Black-Edition-AM2plus-Kuma-Core-Dual-Core-28GHz-3MB-Total-Cache-95W-OEM> for 35 which will need a bios update - not done before but what could possibly go wrong hey ? ;-)

I gather AM2+ can't be used in AM3 mobos, but AM3 CPU can be used on some AM2/2+ mobos

so I could get this which will need bios 3001 <http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/AMD-Athlon-II-X2-255-Regor-Dual-Core-S-AM3-31GHz-2MB-Cache-HT-4000MHz-65W-Retail>
then upgrade mobo later ?

for bios 3001 asus website says "Due to Bios ROM size limitation remove LAN PXE ROM and change Crashfree3 to Crashfree2 "

Q1:- what does this mean in reality ?? Does anyone have any practical experience of updating to this bios and using an AM3 cpu in my or other M2N mobo, how did it go ?

Q2:- If I update the mobos bios will I lose the existing raid array ? (the mobo has nvidia chipset, including raid controller IIRC, which I used to ... Read more

Answer:asus bios 3001 & cpu upgrade for asus M2N-E

An AM3 will work in many newer AM2+ boards. As you've discovered, this is often based on if a BIOS update is available. Unless an AM2+ board has/had an "AM3" Ready" label on the retail package at time of sale, be sure to research if the specific CPU model is supported by the BIOS update.

Check benchmark scores at www.tomshardware.com to determine the approximate speed gain price/value relationship of newer CPUs versus your existing CPU. These charts may indicate (if your software is one of the benchmark tests) what (if any) benefit the software gets running quad versus dual core.

There is always a risk of losing the on-board RAID settings in a BIOS update. If running Raid 1 (mirrored), disconnect one of the drives prior to updating the BIOS. You'll have to re-mirror it once the BIOS upgrade is successful; however you'll still have all your data if something goes amiss. If running Raid 0 (striped), backup your data and plan for a clean install. If you stay with Raid 0 and the BIOS upgrade tanks you may lose everything in the array.

If you can swing it, I'd replace the board and CPU and memory together. You'll get the best performance using an AM3 CPU with DDR3 memory, and you may be able to use the old CPU/board/memory to build a basic PC for a friend or relative needing a enrty-level unit for net surfing and e-mails. Whenever possible, this is my preferred upgrade method: The buyer ends up with a system of better q... Read more

Hi

After installing the Express Gate software as provided by the ASUS, however when starting the PC, the screen displays a message saying that the software is not yet installed & supplies an error code (8C000002).

I previsouly had my SATA harddrives setup as in the BIOS using the IDE setting, but have changed it to AHCI (where I then reinstalled all system software).

While the drives were setup as IDE drives in the BIOS, I was able to make use of the Express Gate software, but since switching to AHCI & reinstalling the software, it no longer seems to be available.

Anyone got any ideas on how to solve this?

Thanks

Answer:Asus Express Gate (Asus P5Q Pro mobo)

Hi

This is for the benefit of anyone else who has an ASUS mobo & is trying to get the Express Gate software to work. According to the ASUS helpdesk, the Express Gate software will only work if your HDDs are setup using the IDE setting & only for SATA drives. This therefore explains why I cannot get the software to work (I'm using the AHCI setting).

Case Closed.

I Bought a new computer the other week.. After playing around with some games i get the feeling that it doesnt really perform as good as it's supposed to do. The computer, which I assembeled my self, has the following spec:

AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800+
ASUS A8N-SLI Premium
ASUS GeForce 6800GT 256 meg
2x512 Crosair XMS3200XL PRO (CAS 2-2-2-5)
Nexus RealSilent 400W

Processor temperature is at 32 degrees celsius idle and 40 degrees at load. The GPU is somwhere around 50 at load and slightly lower at idle.

I Installed Windows XP SP2 on a newly formated partition and installed all available updates. Installed the latest Nvidia drivers for both chipset and the graphics card.

Well, my problem is that i get pretty lousy FPS in the most games (Far Cry beeing the only exception). In F.E.A.R. I get about 20 FPS in the higher setups. When i tern on FSAA to x2 and AF to x2, Soft Shadows on and Volumeric Lightning on i get somwhere between 10 and 20. After reading some tests of my setup, I get the feeling it should perform much better. In Doom 3, with FSAA x2 and AF x16, everything else on maximum, the FPS jumps between around 20 and 50 (exactly). In both of the games it doesn't make a real difference if i run it in 1280 or 1024 resolution.

I get around 11000 points in 3D mark 03, which, I get the feeling, is pretty what im supposed to get.

So; whats going on? Am I missing something important here, or is this perfectly normal? Could there be some BIOS setting that I have overloo... Read more

Answer:New Computer (ASUS A8N-SLI Deluxe / ASUS 6800GT)

F.E.A.R. is a very hardware intensive game. That said, your video card is geting old, and is not going to play cutting edge games at the speed of light, like it once did, when it was new tech. Compare benchmarks, and you'll likely find you are getting the performance you should, for the hardware.

Helllo everyone,

I wanted to buy the Radeon HD 6870 but it's not on the market here anymore, so I will have to buy another one -- hopefully not the HD 7850 xD. So, which one should I pick: the ASUS EAH6850, or the ASUS ENGTX560. Give your reasons please. I need the answer before Wednesday (2nd of May)

I read stuff about both of these, I'm really "new" to NVIDIA but I am also confused now. Asked people, some say Radeon, some say GeForce... I really don't know. Help me out, I'll appreciate it.

Ask away for more info if you need to.

Answer:ASUS HD 6850 or ASUS GTX 560 (non-Ti, DirectCU, 810MHz)?

I have always been an ATI/AMD fan when it comes to video cards so I'm gonna say go with the 6850. I have one and it is great. It is typically cheaper than the Nvidia and is slightly higher on Passmark's benchmarks. Also, I totally agree with Asus as a brand as they are one of the bests.

Hi,

I'm trying to establish a strong signal around my house for more than a year now, but I have not luck doing so. I have 3000 sqft house that has 2 floors. My main router (Verizon Fios) is on the second floor, and the computer that has problems, with connection drops and getting 30-40% of max ISP speed, is on the first floor on the other side of the house.
Right now I have Netgear WNDR3700 V1 connected as a bridge to the Verizon Fios router (wireless is disabled there). In addition, the Netgear is connected to an Amped Wireless SR10000 (Access Point) on the first floor.
The computer on the first floor is connected with Alfa AWUS036H 1000mW (tried all kinds of antennas: 5,7, and 9dBi). I also tried Linksys WMP600N that was much worst than the Alfa.

So after all that, I'm trying to find a way to get 90-100% of ISP speed on the problematic computer on the first floor. I start to think that it's impossible and there is something in the house itself that prevents that from happening. Do you think one of the routers above would help to fix this problem?
What's interesting is that my MacBook Pro (15" Retina) gets 100% of ISP speed from the same room, but it's not constant (ranges 80-100%, but still much better than the PC next to it.)

Any thoughts what to do in order to fix it? I can't get a wire there and LAN over power doesn't work very well since it's on different power network than the main router.

Thank you.

Just put this system together last night. all the drives (cd /HDD's) are from a previous computer but the mobo cpu and ram (kingston 333mhz 256mb) are new.

Entire system contents:

300w power supply (mitsumi "i think" came with case 4years ago)
asus a7v400 (onboard sound/vid/network)
AMD sempron 2400+ 1.67ghz (retail w/fan)
kingston 333mhz 256mb pc3200
no add in pci or agp
2 x 20GB HDD
2 x cd (one burner)
and floppy

the problem:

after installing everything I turned the computer on it turns on then off, and back on as others on this board have mentioned to be normal for this board, but then the it starts to post but doesnt even get past the "splash asus a7v400 screen" then it just hangs indefinetly! :suspiciou

on the "splash screen" it shows press tab to show post, and press alt+F2 to flash bios.. but niether gives any response... Ctrl Alt Del does reset the comp only to bring me back to the same spot... a little frustrated... thinking possible power supply unit, or even processor?

It does beep once (short) and then stops. and I've tried the FSB jumpers set to 133 and 100 mhz. both with the same result, I even tried clearing the CMOS with no change (not a big suprise since its never been used )

please help.

THANK YOU

Answer:Asus A7V400MX w/ sempron 2400+ Shows "asus" splash screen then Freeze.

common problems

well, first off. The beep you heard is natural. It means that the POST (power on self test) went through sucessfully! you might need to check the processor. Sometimes, processors can cause a bad instruction to activate, which causes your computer to freeze. The powersupply also could be an important factor. You should turn the computer on with the least amount of things. for example... (motherboard, 1 stick of ram, processor, harddrive, and the powersupply) doing this will limit what could be wrong and make it easier to troubleshoot. I would definetly check the processor, and even possibly the memory. hope this helps!
