Dell Inspiron 15 screen flicker when plugged into external monitor

Question: Dell Inspiron 15 screen flicker when plugged into external monitor

I have a Dell Inspiron 15 7568 laptop that is less than a week old. I also purchased a Dell HDMI to VGA adapter so that I can use an external monitor with a VGA input as a 2nd screen.
Whenever I connect to the external monitor my laptop screen, not my external monitor screen, flickers a couple of times a minute. I have checked all the connections of the adapter and VGA port and they seem fine. It appears there is a problem that is encountered when I plug in the external monitor that causes the laptop screen to flicker occasionally.
If anyone has any suggestions to fix this issue it would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

When I connect my Dell XPS 13 9350 laptop with QHD display to an external monitor through the DA200 USB-C to HDMI connector the external monitors flicker constantly (laptop is fine-no flickering). Sometimes it works for like an hour then starts to flicker or longer so its not consistent. Below are the troubleshooting steps Dell has walked me through (including sending me a new DA200 part) to no avail:
- Dell has sent me a new DA200 USB C to HDMI part
- They have upgraded the Thunderbolt drivers and all other relevant drivers to latest ones (as of June 15 2016)
- I have tried on different monitors (5-6) and tried different HDMI cables.
Dell doesnt seem to know what to do now. THey have refunded my DA200 part purchase and told me to buy a separate HDMI to USB-C cable to test. If that fails it seems they will replace the motherboard. They say it could be an issue with the external monitors not being compatible with QHD, but this is not documented anywhere (they admit) and I havent heard anyone else having this problem on the internet and surprised every single person using this setup has QHD external monitors. This is an unworkable situation for me as I work in PC labs all day connected to external monitors.
Any advice?

Hi, I recently bought a 22" LG Flatron Monitor and a Toshiba Satellite Pro Laptop and have a flicker happening on the LG monitor whenever the laptop is plugged into an outlet. The flicker immediately goes away when the laptop is running off of battery power. The resolution is on the native 1920x1080 and refresh rate is 60Hz (can't change it). I have had this problem before with a HP laptop and BenQ monitor. The problem only happens to me at work (not at home), so I believe that is has to do with electrical noise on the circuit at this particular location. Anyone know of ways to get rid of or filter this noise to eliminate the flicker?

I have a white screen upon startup. I was able to use my laptop when plugging the VGA cable in the back to an external monitor but that only works with a few tries.
I notice if i put my laptop on sleep for less than 2 hours the external monitor works.
Any time longer and I have to start the process of removing and inserting the plug and playing with my external monitor so it can detect a signal, it usually takes a few tries and a few minutes.
The white screen is always on my laptop throughout the process and even when the external monitor works.
Just determining if i should replace me screen or ribbon video cable or check my connection to my vga cable or could it be my motherboard.

any help or direction is appreciated.
Thank you!

Answer:Dell Inspiron 15R N5110 screen problem - white screen & external monitor works if I jiggle the plug

We need to isolate if the issue is with the LCD or the video card. So, turn off the system - press and hold the "d" + power key to turn it back on - this should initiate the LCD built in self test. You should see a screen with solid changing colors and the system would beep. If you see this - the LCD is fine. If you do not see the colors changing - then repeat the step again - but this time - swivel the LCD back and forth and see if there is any display. If the display is intermittent then the LCD cable needs reseating/replacing.
Also, turn off the system and press and hold the "fn" key + power button to turn it back on - wait for a few minutes. If you do not see any display, the system should start beeping. Count the number of beeps per cycle. At any point if you see the screen with solid colors changing - the LCD is fine. The issue is with the video card/motherboard. If do not see the changing colors - then we would suspect the LCD.
Test the system with another VGA cable for the external monitor.
If the system is under warranty, then please send me the service tag of the system and your contact details through a private conversation. Or you could use twitter - @dellcares - we can DM through twitter and help you fix the issue.
Keep us updated.

Hi, I recently purchased a Dell Inspiron 7559 for school, my first laptop ever. It took me about 6 months to finally decide on a laptop, and I'm very happy with's beautiful. But, I've had two problems with the display. First, there is some slight yellow discoloration on the right half, not a big deal, just my ocd, probably just some backlight bleed or something. But the big issue is that the screen brightness flickers constantly. I can only really notice it on the lower brightnesses, but I use those so its a problem. I've tried EVERYTHING. Tons of driver fiddling, power option fiddling. I cant tell if it flickers in the bios screen or lcd bist, but I've disabled both NVidia and intel HD graphics drivers and no matter what I do, it still flickers. This makes me think that this Is a hardware issue. If anyone has some insight, I would really appreciate it. Should I send it in for repair, or just wait a bit as I read online somewhere that the lcd backlight needs to "settle in" for it to stop flickering with takes a decent amount of screen on time. Sorry for the long post, but this is my first pc and I'm a little bit picky about the function of my things. Thanks.

I have a Dell Latitude E6410 running Win 7 Professional (64-bit). I have it connected to an external monitor. Whether I choose "projector" or the option to show on both screens, the monitor on the laptop will flicker. Here's more specific information that may be helpful:

The laptop and a desktop are both connected to a KVM switch. I set the laptop to "projector" mode so that it will, of course, project on to the main monitor. When I am accessing the laptop via the KVM switch, I see its display on the main monitor just fine. However, if I switch to the desktop, the laptop screen will intermittently come on and off. This happens over and over. That is what I describe as the "flickering." It's very annoying as I work from home and each time the laptop screen goes off and on, I hear a beep in my headset.

The laptop uses Intel HD graphics. The driver date is 01/30/2013 and version is The laptop resolution is set to 1024 x 768 with a refresh rate of 60. Windows does not find a newer version of the graphics driver when doing a search. The laptop will also give this message when flickering:

Optimal Resolution Notification
This is not the optimal display resolution for the primary display device. The optimal resolution is 1280 x 800. Click this notification for more information.

Keep in mind this ONLY happens when the laptop is NOT being accessed on the main monitor on the KVM switch. If it is, its screen does NOT flicker.... Read more

I recently purchased an XPS 15 9550 with i7, 16 GB RAM, 256 GB SSD, and GTX 960m dGPU that I have connected to a 27-inch QNIX qx2710 2560x1440p external monitor. I have this connected through a Cable Matters USB-C/Thunderbolt 3 to DVI-D adapter and cable.
The monitor and everything seem to work fine at 60hz, except for every time I unplug, turn on, or restart the monitor/computer the first five or ten minutes of use is plagued with constant screen flickering and flashing. After ~five minutes the monitor seems to stabilize and will only rarely have a single screen flicker.
I have read other forum threads describing similar issues with different monitors/cable setups and that there is likely an issue between the wifi card and thunderbolt port. The common recommendation is to turn down the wifi output percent to 75%, however the Killer wifi card on this computer does not have an option under advanced settings to turn down the power output. Has anyone had any luck doing this on a recently purchased XPS 15 with the Killer wifi card?
The cables and adapters are new and the BIOS and all drivers are up to date. Other than the wifi issue, does anyone have suggestions or solutions to this screen flickering problem?

Dear all,
Wonder if you can help me solve a problem. I have just received an XPS13-9350 from the Outlet last week. It was certified refurbished.
I've tried to connect a VGA monitor to it via a USB-C to HDMI, then HDMI to VGA cable. The HDMI to VGA cable works perfectly on my Inspiron 15. The setup also works if I full power down the XPS13, attach USB-C to HDMI to VGA to monitor, and then boot up. The external monitor then works almost perfectly (with the exception of Netflix's video player which makes it flicker blue - Youtube and local video are completely fine).
What I cannot do is plug in this monitor whilst the XPS13 is on already - which is inconvenient as I move on and off desk a lot, and powering down the computer every time is unhelpful. Oddly, the monitor will also not be recognised if I simply Restart from Windows. I have to fully power down and plug everything in before switching the computer on again.
I have updated BIOS, video card and Thunderbolt drivers since and none of these has solved the problem. My system info is:
DELL XPS13-9350
Windows 10
Core i7-6560U, Intel Iris 540 graphics

I recently cracked the lcd display on my dell inspiron
7500, I don t have the money to replace it yet so I tried to
connect an external monitor. after the external monitor was
hooked up I turned on the computer and the external monitor
gets blue lines in the middle and nothing else.
How do I succesfully connect an external monitor? please help.

Answer:external monitor dell inspiron 7500

If all you get on the monitor is the 2 lines I would think the the laptop is screwed. The only thing you can try is taking the laptop apart and unplugging the display panel and see if it the external monitor works then. I assume that the monitor works fine everwhere else. You can check out and see if theres any known issues with external monitors and your laptop aswell.

Hi - I've just gotten my Inspiron 5000 i5(7th gen) with HD Graphics 620 displayad.  The laptop has a HDMI port and I wondered if I can connect it to an external monitor and have my display on both?  I've tried a HDMI to VGA connector but that only seems to allow either or - I thought it might be the adaptor but is it actually that the laptop doesn't support dual monitors?  And if it does - can anyone give me any pointers on what needs to be configured to allow the double display?

My Dell Inspiron 15 does not start up when I power it on while it’s connected to the charger. The screen does not turn on and the laptop starts beeping.. 3 continuous beeps with a pause in between. Then, i turn off the charger and switch on the laptop on battery power, and it starts normally. Is it due to a faulty charger ? or is it due to a motherboard error?

My Dell Inspiron 3437 ( Core i5, 4th Gen) screen suddenly stopped work couple of days ago, now it just worked for external monitor. What I done for the issue ( I did all works by an external monitor)
1. Taking a Diagnostics for all hardware no problem.
2. Using function key but no help.
3. Flashing new bios ( A10), the computer display worked!  but the screen did not display again when I restarted the computer.
4. I tried re-flash bios, but the bios program won't let me to flash same bios version.
5. I tested the screen on another laptop, it worked perfect.
So I guessed the computer BIOS chip corrupt.
Anybody can help?

Answer:****** Dell inspiron 3437 only works external monitor********

If the system boots to Windows, it's not a BIOS problem.  Check the display settings - if they look correct, but there is no display image, you either have a bad display panel or a bad GPU (i.e., mainboard).  Hold the D key through powerup -- if you do see the built in display test (cycling solid color screens), the display is bad - meaning the mainboard is the problem.  If you don't see that, the display needs to be replaced.

I have a Dell Inspiron 15 3542 with an i3-4005u and integrated graphics. The max resolution for the built-in screen is 1366 x 768, it has an HDMI-out port, and I was wondering if I could output video at 1920x1080 to an external monitor using the HDMI port.

I got this laptop recently and ran into an issue when connecting to external displays, in all games I am unable to set my video settings to 60Hz when choosing to project my display to the external screen only. If I duplicate the screen then I have no issue, but I want to be able to close the laptop lid and have 60Hz as an option, otherwise everything shows up as 59Hz which causes stuttering and flickering. The weird thing is that in Windows my refresh rate shows up as 60Hz at 1920x1080 but when launching any game 59Hz is the highest I can go to when set to display as "second screen only" in Windows 10. Please let me know what I could to fix this, and if it is not clear let me know.

I have an inspiron 5755 with an AMD A8-7410 APU with AMD Radeon R5 Graphics. I am trying to connect my laptop to my external Dell U2211H monitor.
I was a support technician for moer than 8 years, so here's what I've done so far, along with general issue information.
I was able to get the external monitor to work with the laptop for all of a day with a DVI to HDMI adapter. However it took some wiggling to get it to work and when it stopped working I purchased a Display Port to HDMI adapter in case the DVI port was the issue, which still isn't working.
I have tested both adapters, and they both work fine. and I have tested the external monitor, which works fine.
The monitor recognizes that it is plugged into something, but it says it is not receiving a signal from the laptop.
I know the monitor is good, both adapters are good and the HDMI cable is good.
I've updated every driver I could find for the laptops current configuration (only thing Ive changed is more memory and an SSD Hard Drive, but it was working with both those in) and specifically for the R5 and this specific external monitor. I've also updated the BIOS to the latest "A15" version.
Id really like this up and running again, so I'm open to ideas!

Its not something as simple as 'detect display' as no display is detected and the display settings show only one monitor.

Although the notebook seems to be powerful enough, I am having problems when it is connected to the external monitor (via HDMI, I have tried different monitors and cables):
1) When the notebook lid is closed (or the Windows Display settings is set to "External only"), Windows is very slow, all the animations are lagging. When both notebook screen and external monitor are on (set to "Duplicate"), everything is fine.
2) In games, I have a noticable FPS drop (up to 20 - 30 FPS in Witcher 3) when playing on external screen (even on "Duplicate" and "External Only" modes). I can have full FPS just when playing only on notebook screen.
any solution?

Hello i am an owner of a Dell inspiron 3542 i7 with 840m. I have a question that the tech support in Greece couldn't solve. When i plug the hdmi on my laptop and i connect it to a screen if the screen is bigger then 19' then everything is messed up. The colors the resolution everything. I noticed that the hdmi is connected to the integrated graphics card which powers the display of the laptop of course and has and output of 1300sth resolution. So when i connect it my laptop with an external monitor i cant see anything right from resolution or colors side.Is this normal? there is nothing wrong with graphics card the discrete and the integrated are perfectly working i cant just get passed this issue though..

Hello, I just purchased this i5759-8836SLV (Windows 10) laptop that produces a very poor display on an external HD monitor (HP 22VC) when connecting via the HDMI port. It has an integrated Intel Graphics 520 and an AMD Radeon R5 M335 (4GB) dedicated graphics card.
The contrast ratio is very poor and the colours are dull when comparing to the laptop screen, with both displays set to 1920 x 1080 resolution.
I have switched HDMI cables and even monitors, with the same results. When I attach the same monitor to a different Dell laptop, the display works just fine. The image is very crisp and the colours are very bright and default factory setiings.
I have downloaded and installed the latest drivers, tried adjusting both monitor and graphics software settings without much success, the display still doesn't look as sharp and bright.
I have tried explaining the issue to Dell tech support, but without much success. The believe it is a monitor issue, as the laptop's built in display is working fine.

few weeks ago, I have bought Dell 7567 in following configuration:
CPU:  Intel Core i7 7700 HQ
GPU: Intel HD Graphics 630 + NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050Ti
HDD: 1TB 5400rpm

Although the notebook seems to be powerful enough, I am having problems when it is connected to the external monitor (via HDMI, I have tried different monitors and cables):

I was not able to solve this problem (probably it's some bug in drivers from Intel). I have tried more different drivers (from Dell and also stock Nvidia/Intel) but without success. Currently I am using the latest ones from Dell website.
I would be very happy if someone could help me to solve this problem as it drives me crazy to not be able to enjoy full (gaming) performance of this laptop.

I have a dell Inspiron 13 7349 laptop running stock windows 8.  I recently updated the display driver to the latest version from the dell support site (based on my service tag).  The driver is Intel(R) HD Graphics family (dated 2016-03-23).  Since then, each time I try to connect the laptop to an external monitor, or if I try to change the screen resolution, the screen refreshes to a blank page - I can see the mouse pointer, but nothing else.  The solution is to either close the laptop lip and reopen (works 60%) of the time.  The other solution is to restart the laptop (so I lost all the unsaved information).  I have been using/connecting to this same external monitor for at least a year with this laptop on older driver.  Downgrading to the previous driver is not an option because it was causing other more serious problems.  Does anyone know what may be wrong here? It appears to be a driver issue, but I m not sure how to overcome.

Over the last 2 days I have been having a problem as indicated in the title of this post. The fault has rectified itself 3 times, but again today, it is back to "battery plugged in, not charging." As I am running the laptop (Windows Vista Home Premium; 32 bit) on the adapter without problems, I assume that the adapter itself may not be faulty.
I also have a Dell Inspiron 630M laptop running Windows 7.  Can I safely use that adapter with the Vista laptop, without causing damage to the Vista ?  If it is safe to do so, and the battery on the Vista starts charging, then it would indicate that the Vista adapter/charger has some kind of fault.
Hoping someone can give me some guidance. Thanks.

Answer:Dell Inspiron 1545 laptop. Battery plugged in not charging. Can I use adapter from a Dell Inspiron 630M laptop ?

If the adapter has the same plug and the same or higher power rating, you can swap them.
Check to see whether the 1545 recognizes the AC adapter or whether it shows unknown (F2 at powerup).  If it shows unknown with two different adapters, you have a bad power jack or a bad mainboard.

A few days back a thick pink band started appearing on my dell lcd. This caused my pictures to appear bad, but i was still using the laptop. A few days later the laptop screen started displaying poor artifacts, flickering and blanked out after a while. All through when connected to an external montor the display was perfect.

Today i replaced the LCD, inverter and video cable with those i pulled from another working inspiron e1505 (my friend's).

While the pink band is gone on my e1505, the poor display artifact, flicker and blanking out continues.

Well I had to send my motherboard into service so I borrowed mums laptop a dell inspiron 1750.
The laptop screen is not my favorite cup of tea so to speak. And today I bought an adapter to connect my regular monitor to the laptop. And the dell won't recognize it at all. Trying to send a simple inquire to dell support is impossible, would need to pay for their support. Thought it could have been driver issues or so but can't find anything about it. This laptop originally shipped with windows 7, but mum upgraded to windows 8 during the early campaign when it was like 20? now it's upgraded to win8.1.

Any ideas how I can get this horrible laptop to recognize my screen?

Answer:Dell Inspiron 1750 won't recognize external screen.

Most all Notebooks/Laptops have a VGA port or DVI port that allows connecting a projector or external monitor. It is controlled by a key combination of Fn + Fx which toggles the port On or Off. There's three settings, LCD Panel only, External port only, or both at the same time.

On my Dell Inspiron 15R it's the Fn + F1, others may be F5 or F8, usually marked by a symbol resembling a TV/Monitor. The proper F key usually is marked in the same color as the Fn key but have seen some Notebooks where that was reversed, just pressing F key worked. Have also seen one newer Notebook with only an HDMI video port.

I got a call from a user, describing a problem that he was just experiencing. He has a Dell Inspiron laptop computer--sorry, I don't know model--that has an external monitor.

He's just upgraded from W98 to W2K. After the upgrade, his computer won't boot unless the external monitor is connected. After the computer boots, he can disconnect the external monitor, and the internal display works fine. However, when the external is disconnected, the computer stalls while booting.

Any suggestions???

I remember from somewhere that Dell has a fix for this. We had similar problems using their docking stations. You'll need to talk to their tech support personnel.

excluding a hardware short since the poser socet is terribly close to the LCD connector, your ThinkVantage Power Manager may be causing this as it readjuests the power profile. Tweak PM to see if it makes a differency by fleatteing or createing a new profile with identical settings regardless of AC or power then observe the issue.

He offered to give me an old monitor (not flat screen) and said it would work with it - - or he has a Compaq that he said would work with my flat screen.

I don't mean to be dumb here, but why is that? I thought, well maybe the video card was bumped on the ride home, OR I could swap out the Dell video card for the one in my old PC that died (custom built one). I popped the hood of both and I cannot even figure out how to GET to the video card in the Dell, let alone swap it for my old one.

Mag's site has a trojan and Dell's site suggests something about three types of video connections . . . 1) display port connector, 2) integrated video card connector (which is the type of connection my monitor has) and 3) add-in video card in expansion slot. The information says that "Usually, integrated video cards are automatically disabled when an add-in video card is installed. The monitor must be connected to the add-in video card, if present."

Please help! Is there anything - within reason - I can do to get these two to work together? I am so close to being back in business (not literally, but I miss my home PC!) and yet, so far . ... Read more

The touchscreen on the laptop is completely black.  The computer is turning on and the backlight to the keyboard is functioning, as well as the fan.  At times I can get a series of 8 beeps that can be heard.  I referenced this and understand that code indicates LCD failure.  I connected the laptop to an external monitor via HDMI cable and it is black as well.  I did remove the battery for a few minutes and then reinstalled it.  I also check the LCD cable connection, unplugged it, and plugged it back in.  No change.  What could be causing this problem?
Thank you for any help!

External out using VGA and my Acer AL2216W shows flickering especially when there's movement on the screen (animation/video running). By flickering I mean thin lines running across the screen. Not thick enough to be a hindrance but very noticeable especially in videos.I originally thought it was the VGA out's fault. Turns out this only happens when I'm plugged into the AC. When I'm running off the battery there's no flicker. This happens no matter which wall outlet I use or surge protector.Changing power adapters with my room mate's didn't help either (he has the same model). Seems it's the power unit inside the laptop?

Answer:Y410 External Monitor Flicker w/ AC

*Where's that edit button*...The problem occurs on my room mate's Y410 as well.I'm guessing it's due to improper shielding inside the laptop.Does anyone else have this problem? Is this something that Lenovo guarantees an easy fix for if I shipped it in aka is Lenovo aware of this problem?  Reason I ask is because this is my sole computer (no desktop). So I will be without a computer if I get this RMAed.

A couple of days ago my Inspiron 8600 laptop screen decided to quit working.  Prior to that, it worked fine.  It hasn't been dropped, etc.
My laptop works perfectly with an external monitor, but the laptop screen shows zero signs of life, at any time (during the boot-up, or after Windows is launched.)
1) I've done the diagnostic that I found on the Dell website.  Everything checks out on the external monitor, but again, nothing is happening on the laptop screen.
2) I've toggled back and forth between the laptop screen and the external monitor using the "Function" + "F8" keys.  All that happens is that momentarily I can turn off the external monitor, but nothing seems to affect the laptop screen.
3) the only thing that is worth mentioning is that I have been using a docking station for a while, and sometimes upon re-booting the computer in the morning, I get a message saying that "the computer was improperly turned off" (or something like that), and that I need to be careful about heat damage.  I then need to press the "F1" key to complete the re-boot process.  This may or may not have anything to do with the laptop screen not working.
What do you guys/gals think?  What can I do about this?  The computer is no longer within warranty.
thanks much -

Given the age of the system, a worn out backlight bulb is the primary candidate - an LCD repair shop can change this for $100 or so.

Im having a problem when i connect my laptop with external display.
My laptop is HP tx2(12" display) with windows vista sp2 and my external display is an LCD tv of Onida(Xaria 22")

When i connect my laptop to the LCD tv, the connection is ok... display comes properly....resolution is also good...
but after some time of using it(either watching videos or even normal browsing) the display flickers and then gets diconnected(with the disconnection sound or tone) and automatically gets connected again.
sometimes after auto re-connection the resolution also gets changed....this is really annoying..

Iv used the help section... they asked me to increase the flicker rate to atleast 75 but my laptop has a max freq of 60hz only. iv also applied max resolution to the screen...but the same thing always happens again..
then i also connected the same lcd tv to my another laptop(hp dv6000, 15.4", vista sp2) and the same problem never comes. even the flicker rate of that laptop is max 60 hz. both have same resolutions also

iv tried all that i cud.... advise please.....

With motherboard removed and power supply connected, monitor connected, ram in, CPU in, HD connected and Case Power Connector for front Push-Button "connected" the system acts like it's going to start but nothing shows up on the display and screen shows No Signal.
However, if I unplug the Case Power Connector for Push-button from the motherboard and start the system by shorting the two power pins on the motherboard ....then the system starts normally and the display works.
Does this indicate that I have a bad power connector, bad power button?  How do I solve this problem?  The power button is white when it does not start up.

Answer:Dell INSPIRON 620 Blank screen, Monitor No Signal, Power Button white

The power on switch is a replaceable assembly.  Which one depends on Mini Tower or Slim Desktop 620S.

When I switch between my home and work docking stations, the external monitor flickers.  I have tried what is recommended in this link:
But I don't have it plugged to the display port.  Both monitors are connected via DVI.  When I restart my computer there are no problems.  Only when I come out of sleep mode when changing docks.  The external monitors are different.  Both dells.    Video card driver is up to date.  Bios is up to date. The video card is Intel HD graphics 520 (driver  Display is Dell E2414H.  The dock is PR02X  F310C A03.  I have changed the monitor settings from auto detect to DVI input.   Also I disabled DDC/CI.
I believe this is a video card driver issue although it could be bios related.

Hi, I own a W510 updated with the latest lenovo drivers. The problem I have is that when I use an external monitor connected via the VGA port I see horizontal lines moving across the screen, which I can only describe as flicker. I've seen this with two 22" 16:9 monitors already - one Lenovo and one Packard Bell. With the Lenovo monitor I see that in the NVIDIA Control Center the refresh rate is set to 59 with options 60 and 75 available. With 75 the flicker is still there but not that apparent. I can't set to 60 because it automatically reverts to 59. If I however connect the same monitor via the DisplayPort to DVI connector there is no flicker and the refresh rate is set to 60. With a third Lenovo screen, which is I think 15 inch 4:3 I don't see any flicker. Do I have a defective VGA port? Is this a driver issue? Should I contact support?

I have a Dell D1028L monitor. The flicker is horrible, even though it is set to optimal. I want to reset the flicker rate. However, I get the following warning:
WARNING! You have specified a custom video refresh rate. Some monitors may be damaged by improper refresh rate settings. You should use this setting only if you know your monitor supports it. Are you sure you wish to continue????

Should I change it to something I can live with or will I make a nice doorstop if I if I do?

I have recently experimented flickering in my screen. I purchased this laptop like a month ago.
Acording to some answers in here , One recommendation is to turn off the Dell extended battery life. But on Windows10 I do not have that option...What i see is Dell Power Manager Lite.
It looks like on direct AC and battery fully charged I do not present the flickering. If I unplugged the AC cable and battery goes lower than 85% I start seeing the annoying flickering.

Bought DELL XPS 15-9550 with intel Core i7, 16G RAM, 1TB SSD HD, with Nvidia-GeForce GTX 960M from Best Buy last November.
Connected to external monitor HP2311xi through the HDMI.
Everytime need to set up display as 2 display, HP as Main and laptop as extended. Then every 5 to 6 min, the system reverted back to single display by first blanking the screens.
Reset the display by clicking detect and the laptop screen come back alive, and then after 5 to 6 same thing happened
Talk to Geek Squad. Change the cable, update the Intel HD graphics drive, reinstall and uninstall. Still happening
Update BIOS to the latest available still not solve the issue
Even after letting it in single display mode, the blanking keep continue. It is very annoying and distracting while working.
Any one encounter the same issue.  Please share the resolution
Thank you

Answer:Dell XPS 15-9550 with External Monitor HP2311xi - keep getting blank screen on and off -

I am having the same issue with my XPS 15-9550 with Nvidia combined graphics connected to a Dell UP3216Q external monitor.
Typically when interacting with apps, i.e. scrolling in MS Edge browser, the external monitor blacks out for a few seconds. It is very intermittent, and tends to occur several times within a 30 second period then it will stop for a while. Acts like bad HDMI cable connection. I have the same issue with multiple cables, although it could be the receiving connector on either the laptop or the monitor.
Have changed drivers on both the Nvida and intel adapters with no change in behavior. Changed resolution, frame rate, etc.
The problem renders the system unusealbe and I will have to return both the laptop and display if not resolved soon.

Recently I've started noticing a monitor 'flicker' that is a brief shrinkage of the screen display on my monitor, perhaps by ~5%. It is hard to define when it happens and exactly describe what happens. It always catches me unawares.

The Dell Ultrascan P990 came with a machine I purchased in 1999, so it has given me good service. My Sapphire Radeon HD 3870 PCIe 512 Mb graphics card came with a machine I had built for me in 2008 (see my specs)

I'm currently running Win7 Pro x64.

Could this flicker be a sign that the CRT or other monitor circuitry is failing?

My son gave me a hand-me-down Samsung S24A450BW LED monitor. I've not switched to it because photo forums I've checked suggest that the CRT monitor should give a superior image.

Can anyone offer any insights?

Answer:Occasional Brief Flicker - CRT Monitor - Dell P990 Trinitron

hi yes from your description it seems like the monitor is failing. can test that by hooking it up to another computer. you could always hook up the Samsung as a second monitor and see how good the image is on that compared to the crt monitor.

I'm wondering if someone possibly help as I'm not sure where to go next.

I have a Dell U2311H monitor connected to a XFX Radeon 6850 via its DisplayPort and I'm having problems with random flickering where the monitor picture goes black for a few seconds.

I have another monitor, an old HP, connected via DVI and a 1080p Sony LCD TV connected via HDMI.

I have had the Dell and HP monitors connected via DVI for months without any problems but I wanted to extend my Win 7 desktop to all 3 displays and I believe you can't do that using DVI, DVI and HDMI, hence why I want to use the display port.

I have tried 2 different displayport cables, so I don't think it is that. I don't have another gfx card or monitor to try to eliminate from the process.

One thing I did notice is that if I change the resolution from 1080p to 720p it seems to fix the problem. I'm wondering if it could be something to do with the displays running at different resolutions? Although I did try both the TV and Dell running at 1080p but there was still a problem.

Any suggestions greatly received,

Answer:Display port flicker on Dell U2311H monitor

I happen to see this thread when searching for solution for the same problem. I am using 3 monitor display setup, using U2311H connected with displayport to HD 5770 graphic card and 2 samsung 940b monitor connected with DVI to the same HD 5770 graphic card.

U2311H flickers (screen become totally black) for 1 to 2 sec at random times and return to normal.

I did not try any other display port cable yet because I did not have time to buy another one.

Seems like adbarnes have the same problem, I am wondering if it is because we are using 3 display setup? or display port? Or maybe there is something wrong with U2311h?

I have been using U2311H for some time, this flicker problem happens recently.

adbarnes, have you discovered how to solve the flicker problem?

My dell U2311H is using 1920x1080 (recommended) resolution
My samsung 940B is using 1280x1024 (recommended) resolution
(all using the recommended resolutions)
using win 7

Switching to an external monitor  (AOC brand) from the built-in utility of the X201 (Fn+F7) works fine from startup. However, on wake-up, the monitor will flicker so bad it is almost unreadable, even though it had been connected just fine. Changing the monitor settings seems to have no effect. Re-booting the X201 cures the problem. I have a good quality VGA connector between the X201 and monitor and am not using the Ultrabase.

The other day, I started having a problem with the screen on my latitude d610 laptop. After awhile of being on it would turn off. Not the laptop itself, just the screen (I know this because I can hear the audio coming from the task I was working on). This problem got progressively worse and now when I turn the screen on it only flickers on for about a fraction of a second before going back off.

I'm not entirely concerned with getting that fixed (although, if you know what the problem is, please do let me know). My main concern is the fact that I cannot get an external monitor to work. I have plugged in the VGA cable into my laptop and the external monitor and then I hold down the "fn" key and press the "CRT-LCD" button, but nothing happens. There is no problem with the VGA cable I'm using or the monitor I'm trying to use, because I tried troubleshooting with another laptop and was able to get it to work on that second laptop. The only thing I can think of is that maybe my d610 is not recognizing the VGA cable/external monitor, because after plugging the VGA into my d610 I do not get the "device is connected" chime that I would normally hear after connecting a device.

If you have any advice for me on what my problems could be or anything you think I might be able to do to try to correct the problem, I'd certainly appreciate it.

My xps 13 9350 laptop screen is just blank but when I hook up an external monitor it shows everything. I've read some have gone from a 60hz adapter to a 90hz, some say update bios, but I have tried everything that I can think of but the 90hz adapter. PLEASE IF ANYONE CAN ASSIST IN THE DIAGNOSIS WEATHER WANTED OR UNWANTED KNOWLEDGE IS GLADLY APPRECIATED

Answer:dell inspiron 1525 plugged in not charging

You mean 60 watt and 90 watt?

Only thing I can suggest other than updating the bios, is to reset the cmos, but on that model requires you to totally disassemble the laptop to remove the cmos battery, thanks Dell.

Resetting the bios with the battery and AC adapter unplugged may allow it to start charging again, a slim possibility.

Sometimes it is a defect with the motherboard.

When the laptop is plugged in, it does not charge the battery. The battery is new so surely the battery is not the issue. Unfortunately, the battery is at 1% now so when the adaptor is taken out, the laptop immediately shuts off. I have tried these steps to no avail:

- Shut Windows down
- remove ac adpater plug from computer
- remove battery
- Now hold down the power button on the laptop for 30 seconds
- Put the battery back in
- Plug the ac adapter back in
- Turn on computer

So I was wondering if anyone could help me eliminate some possibilities as to why it is not charging before i take it into the repair shop or purchase an external battery charger or turn it into a desktop. Thank you.

I bought this laptop -new- (Inspiron 5555) from HHGregg (a mistake, because they are not in my area anymore so I cannot return it).A few weeks after buying it, with normal usage, normal charging, the battery STOPPED charging.I have read many forum posts and seen that this is a common issue with DELL. I read some forums that said buying a new charger would work, as the battery test in BIOS says that the Battery is performing as normal, as well as running my own Battery test (also normal). This worked for a few days, and then went back to normal.I read another forum post that says to go into your BIOS and change the charging setting from Adaptive to Standard. I did this, and it did not work, as well as changing it to all the other charging settings just to see it that made a difference.I cannot update the BIOS, even if there is one, which I dont think there is, because my battery wont charge to 10%. I am stuck on 0%. So even if I wanted to unplug it to move to my desk from the couch I could not.

I have screenshots of Dell Power Manager telling me that the power adapter cannot be determined, even says this with the ORIGINAL charger. - and the "Plugged in, not charging" warning down in the bottom right taskbar.Bought this not too long ago, only a few months, cannot return, and can't afford to just go out and spend another $600-$1000 on another laptop at the moment. Many people said NOT to send it in to Dell because they will replace the motherboard/battery... Answer:Dell Inspiron 5555 (Plugged in, Not charging).

Was this purchased as a new system?   It's not  a current one - you should check to verify whether it's in warranty or not (it will need to be registered with Dell to activate the warranty):
This is a 2015 model system so even if it's new to you, it may or may not have a remaining warranty.
If the system is OUT of warranty, go into Setup (F2 at powerup) and check to make sure the AC adapter is listed there -- if it shows "unknown", the battery will not charge.  In that case, the first thing to try is a new OEM Dell AC adapter.  If that doesn't solve the problem, the DC jack is next to replace:
And if that doesn't solve the problem, replace the mainboard.
If the adapter IS recognized, will the battery charge when the system is powered off?  If it will, but won't when operating, it may be a Windows driver problem or setting.
If the system WILL NOT charge when powered off and the adapter IS recognized, chances are it's a bad battery.

. My Dell Inspiron 5535 is charging only up to 66% and stops.
. I now have Windows 10, upgraded from Win 8.1 over a year ago.  It had been correctly recharging until about a few weeks ago, when it charged to 86%, and then to 68%, and now 66%.
. I have tried:  removing AC cord, re-booting, also removing battery and reseating.  I have uninstalled the Microsoft AC adapter file and the ACPI file, and they reinstalled when i powered on again.  My cords all appear in good condition.
.  computer starts and operates successfullly without the battery.
.  I tried to update the drivers, but the response was the drivers available are current.
I am "assuming" the battery is bad, but purchasing a new one might not fix this problem.
Any ideas or help please?  Thanks.

Hi JoJo827, and welcome to TSG.

It sounds like you may have the same problem as this thread dealing with a different Dell model laptop. I don't know at this point if your model has a separate power jack cable or if the jack is directly attached to the motherboard.

EDIT: If you can give us the Service Tag number of your laptop, we can determine the full and exact model number and hopefully determine if your power jack is on a cable or directly on the motherboard.

it is showing message "plugged in not charging". i have read lot of content but can't able to find the solution. i hope here i can find some good solution. my laptop battery and charger are fine.
now i am thinking about some options which i have thought after doing some search on this isssue
1. i should install windows 8 because mainly BIOS supports that OS. currently i am running windows 8.1 pro 64 bit
2. i should move from legacy to UEFI boot because in some videos when they update their BIOS they have UEFI already enabled.

This laptop is less than a year old (OS: Windows 10) and is getting the "plugged in not charging error." The unknown AC watt error pops up when booting the laptop and I have to unplug the adapter just to get to the desktop. The AC adapter will sustain the battery although it obviously drains over time when being used, but slowly. The AC adapter and battery are those which came with the laptop. Also, the backlight for the screen and LED light on the laptop do work when I plug in the adapter.
I have tried the following:
- BIOS reset- BIOS update- BIOS Diagnostic Test & Dell Diagnostic Test- Blowing into DC Jack- Testing a new Dell brand/approved ac adapter- Testing a new Dell brand/approved battery- and basically anything else Dell has suggested through its troubleshoot suggestions
Any other thoughts here? Next step is to contact technical support as the laptop is under warranty.

Answer:Dell Inspiron 5559 (New) Plugged in Not Charging

Contact Dell for warranty support - one of three things is bad:  the adapter, the DC jack in the system, or the mainboard.   The warranty will cover the repair (assuming it's not due to a physically damaged adapter or DC jack).

I bought the Inspiron 15 7000 (1TB HDD, non-touch) two months ago and have noticed that my screen flickers slightly intermittently. I'm adding a link to a video showing the problem at the bottom of this message.
I first noticed the problem during my first week of using this laptop and assumed it was a driver or software issue. Since then I've searched through forums to see if someone else has a similar thing going on. A lot of people have commented negatively about the screen for this model but that's mostly because of the colors and low brightness.
I have installed all the latest drivers (video, graphics, BIOS) from Dell's website as well as played with power settings (Dell Power Manager Lite and Intel's Graphics Properties) but to no avail. I should also point out that having the laptop on battery or plugged in makes no difference and the problem persists.
Please let me know if there's anything else I should try before sending it back to Dell. Thank you!

My friend is having lots of issues with his moniter and screen flickers.

I'm fairly certain that the issue is the redraw rate but haven't been able to make any headway.

Sadly, it's next to impossible to change any relevent settings considerig how bad the problem is. I'm asking if anyone has a pinpoint solution so I'm not guessing while fighting the clock, since the problem seems progressive the longer the computer is running.

So sorry, I don't have any relevent information regarding the drivers or adapter seeing as... well, I can't see. I do know that the monitor is an 566LM made by LG, and is only about 3 years old since purchase.

Next step is getting another monitor over here to work with, but I was hoping that someone might tell me something that might save me a tiring trip up and down 3 flights of stairs with a big old monitor.

Any advice would be apprecated.

1. drained power 30-1-2. still didn't work
2. changed RAM slots with another still didn't work

srichandm,From looking at the error it looks as thought DropBox is causing the issue you posted. Try uninstalling the program and reinstall it back into the system. If you do not use Dropbox there is no reason to reinstall.Uninstall Dropbox by following the steps outlined in our Help Center article: When the uninstall finishes, please reboot your computer to ensure that it is complete.Delete the Dropbox metadata folder:Open a Windows File Explorer (not Internet Explorer).Type %LOCALAPPDATA% into the address bar (include the % percent signs).Delete the folder "Dropbox" from the results. If you cannot find a Dropbox folder inside %LOCALAPPDATA%, please go to %APPDATA% instead, and delete the Dropbox folder there. Please note that deleting the metadata folder will not delete the files in your Dropbox folder.Download and install the newest version of Dropbox by visiting the following website: Dropbox has finished installing, please apply any Selective Sync settings you may have had prior to the reinstall. Another post to show how bad dell hardwares are:
My laptop powers off suddenly whenever I plugged in the charger. When it runs in battery, it is fine. But as soon as I plugged in, it powers off.
I purchased new battery ---> no change, still powers off when AC adapter plugged in.
I replaced AC adapter ----> no change, still powers off when AC adapter plugged in.
Removed battery and when run only in AC power---> powers off.
Now what I have to do? Replace the mother board?
Let me tell you how bad your hardware *** is:
1. Back in 2012, when I purchased this I got mic/camera not working issue. Called Dell and they replaced the entire mother board for this. ( since it was in warranty, I was quite OK with that ). But wondered how bad the hardware is. i.e within six months of purchase hardware failure.
2.  Once when the warranty got over, immediately after one year another issue came up. It won't charge the battery while plugged in. This time I contacted Dell and they replaced the whole motherboard (sigh!!!) for this. They charged INR 10,000 for this.
3. Next after a year after the above incident happend, they keyboard didn't work. I purchased a new one and replaced it myself.
4. Now, when I plug the AC adapter to charge the laptop, it immediately powers off. I'm 100% sure again I have to change the motherboard. ( I'm not sure the mother board for this model is in stock or not ) .
This is a series of hardware failure within 4 years. I heard that D... Read more

I've recently had a few problems with my Dell Inspiron Laptop. It is plugged in to the AC adapter, but when I check the battery status I get a message saying '4% available (plugged in, not charging)'. This means that I cannot work on my laptop unless it is plugged in. The battery light on my laptop flickers a dim blue colour. I also don't want to buy a new battery for it to not work in my laptop either.

It also seems to get really hot when it is plugged in, and occasionally it will switch off unexpectedly. I'm guessing the reason the battery won't charge may be something to do with the motherboard and over-heating.

Any suggestions on what I can do to fix this problem?
Probably my own fault for buying a Dell...Haha!

Hi everyone!
I have a Dell Inspiron 15 7567 gaming laptop, and today I noticed, that my laptop makes very quiet ticking sound when it is plugged in. This is strange, because the sound very similar to a HDD's head movement ticking. The only problem that there's no winchester in this laptop, only SSD-s (1 X M.2 NVMe PCI-E x4, and 1 X SATA3 2,5") working in my laptop. In this series there's no optical drive, so the only mechanical units in this laptop the 2 cooling fans. But strangely the ticking is exactly can be heard, when the fans stop. So when the fans don't spin (0 rpm) the quiet ticking sound can be heard.
The second strange thing, if I unplug the laptop from AC, the ticking slows down. After i plug in it again, the ticking continues faster...
Do somebody sensed the same? The ticking comes from under the keyboard, if I lean forward, I can hear it well. I think, that this ticking might caused by one electical unit, and I worry that my laptop will go wrong, although now there's no other problem, just the sound...

Answer:Dell N5010 inspiron Battery (plugged in , not charging)

I had the same problem with my dell inspiron 5010. The problem is most likely with the connector on the back of the laptop. There are 3 type of connectors, +19.5v, ground and sense.
I resolved it by bending the pins towards outside leaving the center pin (sense) free.

Hi, my Dell integrated webcam has been working fine on Skype until recently the program claims that my internet connection is too slow for a good video. My laptop is plugged in to a portable wifi, Huawei E-5. I have been getting decent speeds on and even so, Skype was still complaining that it wasn't enough, and sometimes it says another software has been using my webcam.
Anyway, one video chat session, my video sort of crashed and I could only see myself horizontally chopped up. I opened Dell Webcam Central and still it's the same. The other line's video was A-Okay. I already reinstalled Skype and updated imaging devices drivers. The only progress now is that upon start-up of Dell Webcam Central, it says "Please plug in a supported webcam". Then for some reason it only starts up when I plug something into the USB like my phone or my iPod. I have to do this everytime I log on to make it work. I already tried running the webcam on Safe Mode but still it's the same.
Sorry if maybe I put this in the wrong forum, I am kinda confused if this is a hardware/software issue. I hope somebody could help me out.

Just received the XPS 13 (9350) last week and I've been having some intermittent black screen flickering that normally occurs in short bursts of 4-5 short black outs within a span of two or three seconds. Tech support updated all the drivers and such, but I'm still experiencing the issues. Has anyone had similar issues and possible solutions?
I looked at previous posts and the screen flickering is not where it actually distorts things on screen, it literally just looks like it flashes on and off. Any help is appreciated!

I have a Dell XPS 2720 Touch Screen AIO, running with WIN 10.  For the past 6 months it has been blinking completely off for 1-2 seconds.  It appears to be doing this when there is a lot of WHITE space on the screen.  The desktop screen has plenty of color and there is no blinking.
I have updated all the drivers, including Nvidea, and have upgraded the BIOS to A13.  I was hoping to be able to adjust the "Brightness" but it looks like that is not an option.
Is there a video board that can be replaced?

hi... last fall, i purchased an Nec lcd1760V 17" monitor from it didn't start giving me problems until 2-3 months ago when it started flickering... the highest refresh rate that this monitor can handle is 75 hertz... ever day or so... it undergoes this random burst of flickering which doesn't stop usually until i turn the computer off. I have tried every single configuration possible, all the screen resolutions... can you help me deal with this issue temporarily before i purchase a new, brand name, monitor in the summer?

Odd problem with monitor; When using Microsoft Works and a few other programs, I get thin dark greyish horizontal lines across screen that go up and down the screen at probably--but just guessing here--the screeen refresh rate.

Annoying, and am wondering what's causing it -- any ideas? Had monitor since January 2006, problem started about a month ago.

Here's NVIDIA settings I'm using:

GeForce MX100/200 EGA/VGA card (32 Mb)
DirectX 9

Screen Resolution: 1280x1024
Screen Refresh: 60Hz (Have tried other values available -- 70, 72, 75 Hz -- still get the lines)
Color Quality: 32-bit (Also get lines with 16-bit)
Image setting: Performance (Get lines with High Performance, & Quality Settings)
Antialiasing: Application controlled
Anioisotropic filtering: Application controlled

Digital Vibrance: Off

NVIDA Desktop Manager Version 61.76; Driver Versions:
Had theory I might be pushing the Video card too much & need to drop resolution down to say, 1024x768 or less.

Theory #2: Could it be electrical interference causing it? Haven't moved anything on the desk though....

Answer:NEOVO F-419 LCD Monitor Screen Flicker

Well, if it only happens while you're using certain applications then it's most likely a software / driver issue.
Perhaps try some different driver versions?

Hi!I have a brand new (like 2 month old) Dell Inspiron 15 5000 series and I've noticed a problem with it. If i turn on the laptop and it's not plugged in, it runs just fine. However, when it's already on and I plug it in to the power, the screen goes to black and after a few seconds it goes to sleep. After, I turn it on again and it works just fine. However, this issue has happened a couple of times before and I don't know what to do to stop it. HELP

Hi guys,

I've had this issue for some time now but no real resolution.

I'm running Windows XP SP2, latest updates, etc. on a Dell Inspiron E1505 laptop.

Basically, and this is intermittent, but often enough to be a problem, when I remove the power cord (either from the wall/power supply, or remove the plug from the back of my laptop) the computer just freezes up:

- The screen goes completely black (although not as black as when the computer is completely off)

- the computer is still 'on' (though not responding), power light is still on, any lights that were already on (NUM LOCK, etc. are still lit up)

- the computer is frozen (I can't see the screen, but I can confirm this because for example if I press cap-locks or the key combo to disable the wireless networking, the lights on my keyboard stay the same)

The only way to recover is to force a shutdown and restart the laptop.

I have contacted Dell regarding this, but they said it's not a hardware problem, and most likely some kind of system conflict. Of course their advice (as always) is to re-install Windows.

I have confirmed that it appears to be a system problem, because I booted the laptop off a Linux live CD, and then tested multiple times to remove the power plug and I could never replicate the problem.

I'm trying to find a solution where I don't have to completely reformat and start over as I have a lot of programs installed.

Answer:Dell Inspiron E1505 freezes when power is plugged/unplugged

Yes this would happen as it freezes when trying to switch power sources. Close the lid to force hibernate or shut it down before you unplus it. You should never just pull the cord out while Windows is running. It will always freeze.

It's as if it doesn't detect the headphones. It says my Realtek audio driver is up-to-date. When I go to manage audio devices, there's only one device listed called "Speakers / Headphones", so I don't know if when I plug my headphones in it's supposed to detect it separately. I've tried multiple headphones, all of which work with other devices. Also, there are two drivers listed under "sound, video, and game controllers". One is Realtek Audio and the other is Intel(R) Display Audio. Should I reinstall them both? This is a new laptop that I got to replace my old laptop which had (different) sound problems, so I'm very frustrated and at my wit's end, help is appreciated, thank you.

Answer:Dell Inspiron 15: Headphones not working, sound comes through speakers when plugged in

First, make sure the headphone cable is fully inserted...
Then you show get a popup to allow you to select the device if you are using a Combined Audio Port.
If you aren't getting the popup, check the task manager to see if on the Startup Tab a Waves MaxxAudio entry is set to enabled.
If you look at the processes tab you should have two entries for Waves, one blue square and one green circle.

Well, the charger is plugged in, but it says not charging. This has happened twice. I would have thought bad battery or bad charger, except luckily the first time it occured right after buying a new hard drive. I did a hard reset on the battery and that worked.
Now, it has happened again. I tried the regular battery reset, but that did not work. I tried uninstalling device and reinstall..did not work either.
Oddly, what did work was the following:
I had about 38% battery left. I unplugged the power cord from both laptop and wall outlet.
I removed the batter. Computer went dead.
I wiped the battery connectors with a clean cloth several times.
I put the batter back in and turned the laptop on with battery only.
I plugged power cord into side of laptop, then into wall outlet.
Immediately, the laptop began charging again!
I am not sure why this worked. Maybe some techy out there may know. When I tried the battery reset, I turned the computer off before taking out the battery. Then took it out. Plugged in laptop with power cord and powered it. Then shut down and placed battery in. I turned back on..but nothing...
It may have to do with having the laptop already on when taking out the battery, or placing back the power cord, or could just be the wiping the battery with cloth????

Answer:Battery plugged in, not charging...(found the fix that worked for my Dell Inspiron

Hi thelights007,
Please share the system model and the operating system installed. The error 'plugged in not charging' can be caused due to various reasons such as faulty adapter or faulty charging board.
You may try below mentioned steps which may help in fixing the issue. Steps to perform Flea Power are:

Power off the system.
Disconnect any external peripherals (flash drives, printers, external hard drives) from the computer.
Disconnect the AC Adapter and remove the battery from it.
Press and hold the power button for 20 to 30 seconds to release the residual charge from the laptop.
Reconnect the battery and the AC Adapter.
Once the system is powered on and booted properly, re-seat the battery. Check if you still get the error or not.
Boot the system to BIOS, tapping the F2 key on the Dell logo screen when you power on the system.
Press F9 key to load BIOS defaults. Once done, press F10 key to save and exit. System will restart. Check if the error is still there.
Try and wiggle the AC Adapter cable and check if that makes a difference.

If it still doesn't work, parts replacement may be required.
Hope this helps. Please share the findings.

If USB Audio is selected, that would be the audio output jack built into the dock. You need to choose the Speakers/Headphones output as the default device to get audio from the built-in speakers.

I've purchased a Dell XPS 13 9360 and I've had problems with the video flickering.  It happens about every 5-10 minutes for about 5 seconds.
I've spent probably 30-40 hours trying to resolve the issue and I'm pretty fed up with it over the last 2-3 months.  I didn't notice it enough to decide ultimately to get my money back but it is too late.

I've run the diagnostic tool, and it apparently failed.  A technician was sent to my house to replace a part of the computer not related to video, and the part was refurbished.  I declined opening the device up and wanted to get my money back.  Apparently this test always fails unless the computer is plugged in apparently.  I found this out after the technician left...good I didn't let him replace a non-related part!
I've realized my 30 day return window has passed.  Gulp! That's after spending a few hours here and there trying to resolve the issue. Now I have a machine with an issue that is going to take plenty of hours to diagnose.
I've updated the BIOS, updated the Video drivers, to no avail.  I've now engaged Dell Chat support, who has stepped me through the entire process of doing this all over again.
At this point, I've asked for an escalation.  Normally this has been easy in the past, but I'm being forced to step through a repeat of the troubleshooting process which I've already accomplished
At the end of the day, I'm serious... Read more

For some reason I get a screen flicker that is noticeable and irritating. It happens with every BIOS after 1.2.00. Not sure why, but if I want to get rid of screen flicker I have to back to BIOS 1.2.00. Has anyone else experienced this problem and/or found a fix? I think it is rather unacceptable for a $2,200 laptop with a 4K screen to have screen flicker issues and for it to continue to be a problem with the last three BIOS releases.

Answer:Dell Inspiron 5040N AC adapter Lost Power once plugged into Laptop

Hi RAYB871,
Please check if there is any damage on the machine. Check if all the ports on the machine are fine or misaligned. Sometimes if the pins in the USB ports are touching each other, they are known to cause many issues on the machine.
Three components cause this issue, in this order:
Adapter - you have already tested another adapter, so ruled out.
DC Port - the port that holds the adapter in, might be shorted - you would need this part -
Motherboard - I would primarily suspect this part, if the dc port does not fix the issue, then it is the motherboard that has failed and needs to be replaced.
If there is no warranty, then you could contact our team to get a quote for a paid service call -
Personally, I would suggest, you invest your money on a new machine than to repair this old machine. However, it is your discretion.
Also, please click my DELL-username and write me a private conversation with the service tag and your contact details(Name and Email) for case records.
Let us know if you have any other queries.

Hey guys, just got a problem recently with my LCD monitor. It's a fairly old one (Acer 17"inch) and I'm suspecting that it's simply dying on me.

The problem is that whenever I power on my monitor, the screen flickers on for a second and then immediately off. Probably something with the backlight. The power button stays on but the whole screen is black. I usually try it a couple of times to power on/off and eventually it will work and then as long as my monitor stays powered on everything works as normal.

Sometimes especially (I think) when my heater is on in my room, it seems it works almost immediately or very quickly. But when it's cold it can take up to 5 min or longer to finally work. I'm not sure if it could be something based on the temperature, but I have no doubt it's something with the starter/backlight.

A quick google suggests that a dying monitor would usually flicker when it's on (backlight problems), but I don't have this at all. If I get my monitor on, then it works fine. The only problem seems to be something with the starter, but I'm not sure exactly what. Perhaps it's just getting old?

Is it worth to try and repair it? Or should I just wait it out until I can no longer get it to work and then just buy a new monitor?

Answer:Monitor flicker + black screen on startup

lcd monitors have very few replaceable parts. infact one of the few replaceable parts is the back light in some models.
however its a tricky job and normally costs more than a new monitor.
older lcd monitors use a type of fluorescent light, these tend to have a life span. the fact youve noticed there's a corrilation between temp could point to a dying capacitor that only works efficiently when warm.

if you shine a torch on the monitor when it is flashing/dark you should just about be able to see whats being displayed. this will point the finger at the back light being the culprit.

personally id treat yourself to a nice new monitor.
when you can get the liyama E2278HD-GB1 for around ?100 ($100 as us brits get stiffed on import taxes) youll not only gain 5 inces but also get a cracking budget monitor with the quality of a more costly one

Lately, my monitor has been flickering a bit too much. I changed the refresh rates around but it still happens. Sometimes after restarting the computer, the problem is fixed. There is also another problem where the monitor display seems slightly yellow. I can see a faint yellow colour on the display screen which is quite strange and this is also fixed sometimes after restarting. Does anyone know what the problem is? Could it be the monitor or is it more likely to be my graphics card? My monitor is quite old, about 6 or 7 years so I would suspect it being that.

Thanks for your help.

Answer:monitor displaying yellowish screen and too much flicker

The faint yellow colour sometimes can be corrected using the monitors built-on Degauss feature. Try it, it worked for me before.
