Wireless Connection Randomly Dies

Question: Wireless Connection Randomly Dies

Hi everyone, I've been having the same problem for months now and have finally decided to try to get some help after attempting multiple fixes. I use both a wired connection and wireless connection on my new laptop depending on where I am in the house (if I'm hooked up to my docking station its wired, otherwise i'll be on the wireless). The wired connection works fine, but the wireless connection will often completely die on me without any apparent cause. I'm pretty sure the problem is with my laptop due to the following reasons:

1) My dad uses the same connection when he works from home, and told me he doesn't have any problems with it.
2) Just for testing services, I tried using a neighbors WiFi connection, and received the same results.

I've tried changing my DNS server between OpenDNS, Google's DNS, etc. and have not had any luck. I made sure my wireless cards weren't sleeping by un-checking 'allow the computer to turn off this device to save power'. I uninstalled Hamachi to make sure it wasn't messing up any of my settings and still had the same problems. I've updated all my drivers and even re-installed them.

Just to describe what exactly happens during these disconnects, any live connections prior to the point where the internet disconnects stay alive (usually, such as Skype calls, AIM connections, certain games, etc.) and will stay open until closed. Web pages behave in a similar fashion, and in fact will be able to be closed and open in the same browser if they were open prior to the disconnect. However, if I close all the tabs and restart the browser, the page will no longer be able to load (it'l try to load for a minute, then give me a DNS error, then refreshing after this will just automatically bring up the error instead of trying to load for another minute)

In order to resolve the disconnection, I've found I can do the following:

1) Restart my computer (yes it fixes it, but I dislike having to restart each time it happens)
2) Open up a command prompt and type in "ipconfig /release" and "ipconfig /renew". This is by far the fastest way to fix it, but the disconnects occur more often after doing it the first time it happens.
3) (This one is strange) As mentioned previously, if I connect to a neighbors WiFi, I'll be able to use theirs for awhile, before it disconnects as well. At this time, I am able to switch back to my own and use it normally until mine disconnects, then I can switch back to theirs. If I try to switch back to mine before theirs stops working, mine will still be down.

The disconnects occur at random, sometimes my internet will hold out an entire night, other times after a few minutes it'l cut, and cut every few minutes after turning back on. I'm using Windows 7 Professional 64-bit on a Lenovo. My internet provider is Verizon FIOS, using one of their routers/modems.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi!

My internet connection on my Vista machine dies after a few hours. If I restart, the connection will work again, but will die after a few hours again. I've used my computer with several different routers and for example in my friends' home network so I know the problem is in my computer because the internet connection always dies the same way. Usually if I'm listening music from my Spotify, that connection oddly stays on with that, same goes with some java based games like net poker and so on...messenger connection problem diagnostics say that problems are in the ports. Sometimes i've just been too tired to reboot and just kept doing something else with my computer without the internet connection then maybe an hour later the connection comes back to life. This problem is getting kinda old already that it's not funny anymore. Would appreciate if somebody had even a slight suggestion to repair this problem.

Not sure if I should post this here or the networking forum but I assume some nice patron will direct me to the correct place if I'm wrong.

For a while now, and for no apparent reason, my internet connection completely dies. But, it's only to my computer. My computer will slow down DRAMATICALLY, stuttering violently as I try to do anything. But if I restart my computer it comes back on as if no problem was ever there.

I am hooked through a router through an ethernet cable and my wife is connected to it wirelessly and she is never affected.

Is this an XP problem, hardware, or maybe even the hardwire ports of my router?

Help! =(

Hi Everyone

In my previous house I would lose connection to the internet about 2-3 times a week. Since moving into my new house it happens more like 5-15 times a day. The internet light on my modem goes out and the broadband light blinks on and off.

95% of the time when I lose the connection it is for less than 2 minutes. But on some occasions it can take a half hour to work again.

Some more info:
- It happens on all 6 computers/devices in my household at the same time. (2 Macs, Win7 PC, iPad, iPod, PS3).
- All devices are connected wirelessly to modem. But, I have also tried Ethernet and still have same problem.
- I have tried 2 modems (including a brand new one that my ISP sent after I complained).
- I have tried using different jack points and cables.
- When the connection fails, I am still able to wirelessly access my modems config page. So wifi connection is not the issue.
- My ISP sent a technician out. He replaced one cable out by the road, but this did not solve the problem.

I have spent a few hours over multiple days on the phone with my ISP. First they said there was no problem with the line. Then they said there is definitively something wrong with the line. Then nothing wrong, then something wrong. Finally after they monitored the line for 3 separate 24 periods, they decided that the problem was solved. And I thought so too... I had good connection for about 36 hours. But then it started failing again, so far today I have lost connection about 10 times... Read more

Hi there,

I can't seem to figure this problem out. Every so often (from seconds to a couple minutes) my internet connection will fail, but only for less than a second. Typically no one would even notice this, but it becomes a problem when you use software like Messenger or you play games online. The disconnection is long enough to sign you off.

I've been watching a ping I set to yahoo.com for a good 10 minutes, and sure enough, there are occasional spots where for just 1-3 attemps it will time out, then get replies just fine again.

I use a wired ethernet connection, not wireless. The ethernet port is part of my motherboard, its a fairly modern motherboard, not an old one, and I made sure the driver for it was up to date. Any ideas?

My dad has a IBM Thinkpad by lenovo T60 from work. Recently his VPN connection has died and when he tries to reconnect iPass and WZC show no wireless networks. I tried the usual things. Turn off the wireless radio, turn back on, restart iPass, restart the computer. Nothing worked. When i checked ipconfig /all nothing happened. the cursor went down a row and the title bar said ...cmd.exe -ipconfig /all, but nothing else happened. When I restarted the computer a second time I switched network configuration modes. I think it normally goes to LAN but it still always works. So I booted it in Wireless mode and iPass and the VPN ran just fine. That was Friday. Today the connection died again, and I decided there must be something worse wrong. i ran ipconfig /all again and decided to be more patient. This time i got a message.

Hi, i recently bought a linkysys wrt54g router, and I have been trying to make it secure by somehow only allowing my wireless laptop to connect to its wireless network (via the mac address filtering). When i did that it seemed to work fine, but the connection repeatedly died on me (every 5 minutes or so) (even when the laptop is less than 2 feet away). I constantly have to restore factory defaults to be able to connect, but even with factory defaults the connection dies constantly, and sometimes the network just dissapears (the wireless one only, the wired network off the same router works well). Lastly I have now been trying to secure it only via a WEP key, and it keeps dying.

Any suggestions on how i can make my connection secure and stable? I can really use it because im not seeing the point of having a wireless network which isnt stable..and i dont wanna share it with intruders)

Any help would be appreciated! Thank you!

Hi, all. New here.

Brand new Asus U20A running Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit.

This problem only occurs when the laptop is unplugged from AC power, so far. If I close the lid to hibernate or sleep, my wireless connection will not reconnect upon reopening the lid. I change the Power Saving option to keep the computer from turning off my wireless adapter. To no avail. Changed the lid-close settings to keep the laptop from sleeping/hibernating, but that doesn't solve the core problem.

After reopening the lid, as well, the FN+F2 key that would ordinarily toggle a connect/disconnect option on the wifi adapter does not help. Both the on-screen option and indicator light on the laptop respond, but it does nothing for my connection.

I can't even figure out in Windows where to turn on my wifi adapter without Troubleshooting, which doesn't help most of the time, aside from telling me to "plug in an ethernet cable". Well, duh. It won't even give me the option to connect wirelessly.

Ultimately, rebooting gives me my connection back. But this is not a solution. I should be able to reopen the lid and be connected, whether waking up from hibernate or sleep.

There is nothing wrong with my wifi service, so I can rule that out. There are multiple desktops and laptops that are working fine on the LAN.

My adapter is the Atheros AR8131 PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet Controller (NDIS 6.20) with an updated driver.

Please help! This is a fearsomely annoying problem.

Answer:Wireless connection dies after wake up

There's a place to change how power management controls the adapter under control panel. Go to Network and Sharing, then Change Adapter Settings. Look for the adapter then right click on it and select Properties. Click the Configure button and find the Power Management tab. Try disabling the option that allows Windows to turn off the adapter to save power.

recently i upgraded my old modem with a NetComm wireless NB6W router. The setup I have is the router in the study, connected to that is a laptop through the ethernet cord via a docking station and another laptop and my computer are connected wirelessly.

The problem is that my computers wireless connection dies after some time. Sometimes it takes 1 hour to drop and sometimes it takes 2....its completly random. After restating the computer it regains the connection but it still cuts out after some time. The funny thing is is that the other laptops are fine, Its just my computer.

I have Windows XP SP2 and I use a wireless internet connection on my laptop. However, sometimes the internet dies (browsers, aim, uTorrent, etc. looses all connections), but the wireless connection icon in the system tray says it's still connected. And when this happens the signal strength usually says its still very good or excellent. What I don't understand is why the icon doesn't say the connection is lost and show the wireless connection disconnected icon when it disconnects. Thanks for replies.

Answer:wireless connection dies but still says connected

Please supply the following info, exact make and models of the equipment please.

Make and model of the broadband modem.
Make and model of the router.
If wireless, encryption used, (none, WEP, WPA, or WPA2)
Make/model of your computer.

Also, please give an exact description of your problem symptoms, including the exact text of any error messages.

On the problem computer, I'd also like to see this when the connection is good, and again when the connection dies:

Start, Run, CMD to open a command prompt:

Type the following command:

IPCONFIG /ALL

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter.
Paste the results in a message here.

If you are on a machine with no network connection, use a floppy, USB disk, or a CD-RW disk to transfer a text file with the information to allow pasting it here.

When I first connected to our wifi network, internet connection worked. Then it (Internet) stopped working, although I was connected to the wireless network. Now I've found out that changing SSID for the network will make the Internet connection work again. But then it will stop working after a certain amount of time/traffic/something.This problem only occurs with one of the computers that is connected to the network. Also, the problem only occurs with wireless connection - using a network cable will always give me Internet access.Someone got a clue? I don't want to have to switch the SSID every other day.

Maybe this is a hardware issue?

Answer:Win XP randomly Dies

You can test the PSU with a multimeter. Do a search on the web and you will find info on how to do this. Also, make sure the memory you put in is good. Download memtest. You'll need to put it on a bootable floppy. Then boot from the floppy and run it. It will run continously. Leave that running overnight. If it is the memory it will tell you. And if it is a problem with Winxp you'll know it because the system won't have locked up. If it does lock up the problem isn't Winxp. But rather a hardware issue.

Since I installed the new wireless card driver (ver 13.1.1.1), my T61 has sometimes malfunctioned. It randomly cut off wireless internet connection, and the wireless signal strength icon on the system tray indicated no nearby wireless network. The system can not find any wireless network. And then it powered off the wireless connection. Whatever I do, I cannot re-power on the wireless (I used Access Connection to power on the 802.11 wireless radio, but it could not be turned on and nothing happened) unless I restart the computer.  I've tried re-install wireless card driver and TVT Access Connection many times, but it doesn't work. I followed the suggest to completely uninstall the driver and TVT AC and then re-install them, only to find the problem remains. Does anyone have the same problem on the ThinkPad? Could anyone give a solution? Any comments will be appreciated. My ThinkPad T61 has the following configuration:Model: T61 8897CTOOS: WinVista Home Basic SP2 32bitLanguage: ENWireless Card: Intel 3945 ABGWireless Card Driver version: 13.1.1.1 (previous one was 13.0.0.0)TVT Access Connection: 5.61

Answer:Wireless Connection was Randomly cut off on T61

You should compleatly remove Access Connections and use Windows to control your wireless connection. Access Connections is known to commonly cause connection issues.

Before i start, I am Running:

WinXP-Pro, Service Pack 3
2.22 GHz Athlon 64 3500+ Processor
2 Gigs of RAM
ATI Radeon HD 2600 XT Graphics Card

What appears to happen is that once in a blue moon, without any prior warning, the entire computer will lock up solid for about 15 seconds then black screen me and none of my input or output devices will work. That means, Mouse, Keyboard, sound, Monitors, etc. They all die simultaneously. The odd part is, the computer is still working as far as I can tell as the system doesn't even hiccup.

It WAS doing this more than it is now, however it seems to have reduced somewhat. I'm guessing that it has something to do with my power supply as me replacing the 350 watt supply with a 550 watt supply (for a completely different problem) seems to have reduced the occurence of this issue. Instead of happening once or twice a week it now happens once or twice every 2 or 3 weeks. It's still annoying when it happens. Anyone have any clue?

I just received my new X1 Carbon yesterday. When I booted it up the first time the computer died after I set up username and password in Windows. Next time the same screen appeared but the username was ofcourse taken already. I logged into windows and the computer died. After 10-20 HDD checks the computer logs into windows and I can install some software (Visual Studio etc), but then it just dies again. Sometimes it can't even login to windows before it dies.  I've tried to format and reinstall windows but it doesn't help, sometimes I can use it for one hour, and sometimes just for 10 seconds.  I can't really say that I can see a pattern in this whether I'm using the AC chord or not.. I've also done a memory check and a harddrive check without any errors. I guess I have to return it and wait for a new one.. really disappointing =(  Any ideas Lenovo?

Answer:X1 Carbon randomly dies

Question: Y500 randomly dies

Hello, Borught a y500 on amazon a few months ago, its runs great. However, the laptop suddenly just dies randomly, no blue screen, no shut down menu. It just dies, I reboot and check event viewer and its says it crashed(kennel-power). So then I checked for viruses, ran scans for chkdsk, sfc /scannow, and memory diagnostics, everything was fine. It also didn't overheat since the laptop died without gaming at all. The barrtery was plugged in as well I reset windows 8 just to check if its the OS's fault. It just died again today. If it's a hardware issue, what can I do to find out what component of hte computer is wonky? Would the limited warranty help me?

Hello. I am in need of advice once again. I'm staying at my uncles house who uses Keyon internet service so its like broadband with some sort of dish? Anyways...

The speeds were pretty random and slow. Spikes of 3000 pings and averages of 600. Updated the firmware (7 years old) and average is under a hundred now. However the internet still just completely dies for random amounts of time... 2 seconds to a few minutes. Pings timeout to google or yahoo but not my router.

As far as the setup goes, there is a dish or antennae they have aimed a little dish on the roof towards a few miles away. The "modem" is in a plastic box attached to it. The cable runs into literally the cheapest "splitter adapter" ive ever seen, which wont work if you hook up the modem line into "data out" and the router line into "data in", which confuses me in the first place. Shouldn't that be the other way around?

Anyways, I tried wifi and wired connection. I didn't try to bypass the router completely but I don't think it will make a difference. I decided to get a ladder and look at the "modem" and I was a little shocked to say the least. I opened up the big plastic thing that stores it and it literally is just a piece of like motherboard mounted with one little screw, covered in ladybugs and cobwebs. So I sighed and just left it alone.

So now, average ping is very tolerable. 50-100. Speed is at about 2mbps which is fine. I just don... Read more

Hello,
I have a user with a dell latitude d620 laptop. Her external usb mouse stops working every few hours-- apparently when she's doing nothing out of the ordinary, the "installing new hardware" dialog comes up randomly, and when she cancels out of it, the mouse will stop working at a slightly later time. Even the red LED light on the bottom of the mouse goes out.

We've tried different models USB mice, attaching it directly to a USB port on the laptop, via the USB port on the laptop dock, and even with a USB->PS/2 adapter via the dock's PS/2 port.... all with the same results. Every time, when the mouse is working fine, it'll pop up the 'installing new hardware' dialog, and afterwards it just suddenly stops working.

Any ideas? I have no idea what's going on.

She's running windows xp sp3 with symantec endpoint, all the usual office software, really nothing out of the ordinary.
thanks,
Mitch

So i currently have a MSI GT80 Titan running killer wireless 1525 network adapter and am constantly seeing network drops to the point where i get an exclamation mark over my wireless icon and no activity. Connection shows connected but no speed, only until i manually disconnect and reconnect. This has been happening since earlier this week after having the laptop off for a couple days and i'm sure some updates came in from Microsoft.

Steps I've taken already to resolve this:

1. Uninstalled killer wireless software suite and installed stand alone killer driver
2. Refreshed the PC with clean windows 10 install
3. All drivers are up to date including BIOS
4. Ran ccleaner along with registry side of it
5. Memtest shows no errors
6. Hard drives show no errors
7. Connected to LAN and no drops all day

I'm not sure what else to check as this is a fairly new laptop bought back in march and doing some searching on google showed some posts about people with the same issues (different laptops/hardware) thinking it was related to Windows 10.

This has me thinking a recent update is causing it..

It have problem in connecting to my SingTel AzTech router.
Each time, I start or wake up from hibernation for my lap-top , I have to disconnect and connect several times before it got connected.
I don't know why, my mobiles and Acer Predators do not have this problem.
Not sure it is Router or Windows of Acer problem. (I have already updated my wireless driver (Intel(R) Dual Band Wireless-AC 7265) but does not seemed to help.

Anyone any idea ?

BY_Chia,

Did the problem exist before you upgraded to Windows 10? It sounds like possibly just a driver issue, I would suggest removing the drivers for the wireless and restarting to let them reinstall and see if that resolves it.

Which specific model do you have, the V3-371-????

Hello,
I am working on my wife's HP netbook. She recently was infected with the Antivirus Life malware and I used the step by step guide to remove the infection. Now we are running into a problem with the wireless connection. It is randomly disconnecting. I have Verizon fios and the 9100EM wireless router. Prior to a week or two ago, this never happened. I am thinking that this may be related to the malware previously experienced. As this is my wife's school laptop, I (we) would greatly appreciate your help. Thanks in advance. Brandon

Hey everyone, I recently got a wireless Airlink router and a usb card to go along with it so the two computers in the house can access the internet at the same time. Almost everyday at no specific time I just get cut off from my connection, and if I try to repair it, it says something about my IP address.

I'm pretty sure I have set it up wrong, but this was such a pain to setup since the disks that came with the card and router didn't work, so if you guys could tell me how to find info about my router and my connection, i'll be glad to post it. Also when my connection cuts off, so does the other computers, and then I have to restart the router and modem to get back on.

I have an HP nx7000 running XP sp2. I've disabled the internal 11b intelproset (uninstalled software, turned off radio) and instead use a Dlink wna-1330 11g pcmcia card.

Problem is, my wireless connection with randomly drop, come back, and drop every few minutes.

It sometimes happens at home, where I have a belkin pre-n router, though not too often somedays it will be bad, other times it will be weeks of solid operation. When it does happen, my wired connection has no problems and my wireless light on the router is on.

The real problem is when I'm on my college campus for class. When I connect there, my connection will connect and run fine for maybe 5 mins, disconnect for 5 sec it seems, then reconnect and do this over and over.

If I disconnec with my AIM logged in, when it comes back on its own, AIM tells me i'm logged in to two places at once.

Also, even though my connection keeps dropping, the signal strength indicator is always at 100% or near it.

I've tried uninstalling the dlink software and using windows to configure. I've tried using the dlink and turning off the windows configure. Neither seems to help much.

Anyone have a clue what the problem might be?

Thanks

My wireless network connection keeps disconnecting with no apparent cause. Then it reconnects itself, sometimes almost instantly and other times it takes about 5 minutes. Its done this for as long as I can remember, although it did stop for a short while not long ago leading me to believe it had fixed itself. All the other computers on the network dont seem to have this problem. Its quite annoying as I cant download anything of size as it cuts out half way through or do much else for that matter.

Im using the KLG 530 Wirless PCI Network Adapter.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Hi. I have had my Laptop for about 2 years now. My laptop just recently began constantly droping my internet connection. I get no notifications from my laptop when it ocurrs. The Wireless icon says I am still connected and with no issues. But what ever I am doing states I've lost connection. It seems to continue having no wireless for a few seconds, then instantly does back to normal. I have brought up the task manager and watched the wireless performance and it seems to stop sending and recieving data when this occurs.   My network adaptor is a:Qualcomm Atheros AR9485 802.11b/g/n WiFi Adapter I have made sure to turn off the power saving mode on it, and i've trouble shooted it multiple times. The trouble shooter just resets it and states the problem is fixed, even though it still occurs. I have dried deinstalling and reinstalling multiple times, updating it, rerolling it, downloading the latest drivers from HP, etc. Nothing seems to be working.  Any help would be appreciated

My wireless connection randomly drops, or has no Internet connection, or says it has connection and Internet but no web pages load. Usually, what happens is it says I have no Internet connection. I have to disconnect and reconnect to get the Internet back. My ethernet connected computer never loses connection.

I am running Windows 7 with a Realtek wireless card. I have updated the driver to the latest. The wireless router is a D-Link 615 e1 using DD-WRT. The router is hooked up to a Brighthouse Arris TM402G/110 modem for internet access (note: this is my second modem. I had the same problem with another modem. Unfortunately, I don't remember the name.)

When the router is connected to a U-Verse 2Wire 3800HGV modem/wireless router (with the wireless turned off) I have no Internet disconnections. Everything else is the same (I just move the Ethernet cable between the two modems). Of course, one is just a modem and the other is a NAT router/modem.

I noticed that the wireless connection has a weaker signal when connected to the Brighthouse modem then when connected to the U-Verse modem. I therefore tried to up the TX signal strength on the router. This improved the situation (and the signal strength) but I still get disconnects. I also tried setting the MSS to 1492.

I know I am not posting enough to solve the problem. But, rather than post everything I would rather provide the information needed. I am currently on the wrong computer, so I didn't bother posting the ... Read more

Run Xirrus Wi-Fi Inspector
Download and install
If you cannot access the internet with this PC, then you will need to copy the program across to the faulty PC
Save the file to a USB flash drive or other removable media. Plug it into the working computer with internet access and copy the file and install the program.
You will now need to take a screen shot and copy that back to the working PC and attach the screen shot in a reply on the forum here.

Direct link to the program is here http://info.xirrus.com/Wi-FiInspectorConfirmation.html

{If the above link does not work heres another link http://www.pcworld.com/downloads/file_download/fid,77196-order,4/download.html}

Then run and install the program - on a wireless enabled PC/Laptop
if you get an error - You need will need to have NET Framework installed for the WiFi Inspector to function.
On windows 8 - (i do not have windows 8) but, it would appear that, When you first try to run, you may get a message that .net framework is needed, and included in that message is a link to download/install.

I am using the following laptop
A Fujitsu Siemens Amilo Pro running Windows XP sp2
Ralink RT2500 Wireless LAN Card and a VIA Rhine II Fast Ethernet Adapter.

I have had problems with connecting to the network (see previous thread)

After lots of help upgraded the drivers and made the connection

However after working on the laptop, Microsoft updates, putting some anti virus software on
I am finding that it keeps dropping the connection and reconnecting randomly.

All other computers in house are connected and operating fine.

Any clues?

Well... I had a Win 7 Ultimate 64bit on this very machine (the one in my preferences) for almost 3 years until the moment when I said to myself: OK, time to refresh. And that only because my port 80 would die sometimes....sometimes thrice an hour for 10-15 min, sometimes twice a day. But it would happen every day. I re-installed with the hope it was just a bad Win installation but it happened again after just an hour in. What I tried? Well, I certainly tried a new router, but it didn't help. I knew it wouldn't since I also run Linux and OS X in home network and none is affected by this. I scanned old and new Win 7 with every possible malware finder, antivirus..etc. Even bought one (I have an "allergy" when it comes to A/Vs and such in general).. I went drastic today, I disconnected all devices (hdds, usbs, dvdroms, pcie) just to prove my point.. left a single 60 GB SSD with brand new win 7 with default drivers .. Took several hours but I still lost port 80 (it seems to be just port 80 since only browsers and windows LIVE are affected on my system)...Skype, FTP, rsync.. they'll all work just fine while nothing else web-wise does.

Help please! Any suggestions will be tested and reported.

Answer:Port 80 dies randomly, everything else works

What do you mean by "port 80 dies"? skype, ftp all works as you say. So not a tcp/ip routing/connection problem.

I have a Dell Inspiron 15-5547 running Win 8.1. Every now and then the scroll feature (two fingers vertical swipe to scroll the screen), and the two finger tap for right click, will stop working. When this happens, all the other features on the touchpad seem to work. If I restart the laptop it starts working again. I've tried going into services.msc and setting 'Human Interface Devices" to automatic startup, but it doesn't help. There's something else pretty weird also... When I go into the system tray (lower right), right click the touchpad icon, and select Touchpad Properties, it takes me into the Dell Pointing Devices windows. Inside this window, there is a sliding switch to disable the touchpad. When I disable it, the touchpad still works. Weird. Does anybody have any ideas how I can get this sorted out. I'm also using a wireless USB mouse on the same laptop, not sure if that makes a difference. Thanks.

Answer:Touchpad scroll dies randomly

Hi Jools

Personally I would look to see what touchpad driver version you are using and then either update it with an in-place update, or uninstall (my favourite option, then install new driver) the current driver and then re-install, as it may just be a slight corruption.

Latest driver HERE
Also a thought, when the touchpad stops with the scroll feature, had your laptop been left not used for a period of time, like hibernation?

I've had this laptop over a year now, and just recently I've noticed when I leave it on a while and come back, either the audio of the entire laptop will die, or online videos just won't play. After restarting it goes back to normal until a few hours later when it happens again. I'm not sure what to do here. Can anyone help me out?

Answer:Audio/Video randomly dies?

You are not alone with this problem, since the last windows 8 update there is sound problems with a lot of PCs. You can try this quick solution here :

You just need to enter to the Control Panel -> security and System -> System -> Device Manager

Then look for "sound, video and game controllers" put the cursor over it press right-click and select "scan for hardware changes"

3 secs after that you will have your sound working again, you gonna need to repeat this procedure every time the sound is gone in your PC and till now it always worked to me.

This should solve your problem for now, we need to wait for Microsoft's next windows 8 update, it hopefully will fix the problem in a more permanent way.

Greetings.

I've just bought the components for a new PC, and a friend has built it for me. Everything works fine for hours at a time, I can be playing games, browsing the internet, whatever. Then all of a sudden the PC cuts out, exactly as it would in a power cut, except for an almighty fan noise that kicks in and stays on until I hold the power button down to force the power off. When I say an almighty fan noise, I mean the loudest noise I've ever heard a PC make. I thought it was a hair-dryer turning itself on in the room the first time it happened.

Temperature doesn't seem to be an issue, everything's always around 40 degrees, and before I took it home the guy who built it stress tested it for hours up to 90 degrees without any problem. It has always cut out during web browsing (never whilst gaming) although that's probably just a coincidence.

Any suggestions? I literally have no clue whatsoever, what with being somewhat PC illiterate.

I've had  a X41 Tablet for about 2.5 years now.  Just recently in the past month it will randomly die on me, meaning it will lose all power (No shutdown screen, nothing).  If I try to turn it back on, nothing will happen.  If I plug in the AC adapter, still no power.  The only way I can get it to start back up is if I remove the battery, then place it back in forcefully or wiggle the battery around while it is back in the slot.  If it does restart, the battery is still charged like nothing had happened.  So  it isn't the battery losing it's charge.  I even tried putting another battery in from one of the X41 tablets in our office after the computer had died and it wouldn't start.  My thoughts are it has something to with the connection on the board.  Any other thoughts or ways to fix this? Thanks,JohnMessage Edited by cranjx on 06-11-2008 10:34 AM

Got my X1 Carbon yesterday. Does have the loose clickpad. Worse issue - it would power down randomly - as in you are typing and suddenly it goes completely dead, as in "lights out" or someone pull the plug type dead. Also does not sleep properly - often when it goes to sleep it dies and you get an improper windows shutdown warning when you restart it. Happens both with AC power and battery power. Was on hold for 1.5 hours trying to reach a sales rep to make an exchange and got disconnected. Tried to do factory restore just to see what will happen but F11 on startup does not work. The notebook looks great but otherwise I can't say I am very happy with my experience.

Hi! T420 touchpad dies and trackpoint keeps on working. Sometimes after some time the trackpoint may also die. After boot, touchpad & trackpad recovers and is working maybe for an hour, or a day. Then it reoccurs. This happens randomly on some T420's, while other T420's doesnt encounter it never-ever. Any tips how to troubleshoot this one? My computer has been randomly dying when i play graphic intense games. (Everquest 2, World of Warcraft, etc) The monitor says no signal and goes to standby and the sound plays the last sound playing for a few loops. I need to hold down the power button to turn it off. Sometimes after this happens the computer refuses to turn on afterwards, i would have to try a couple of times.

I have tried booting with only 1 of the 2 ram sticks (for both) and came with the same results. If the computer was already able to boot, it will. If it wasn't, it wont. I do not have an extra video card to test, and do not want to buy one until i know it REALLY is the problem.

Any input/ suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Hi, i bought my Acer Aspire E1-57G 2 months ago. U put win7 64bit on him and installed som drivers. All worked fine for some time. 1 week ago my internet slowed down randomly, and only on this notebook. I googeld a little bit and i decided to go for win 8.1 and original drivers. I installed ewerithing but the problem with WLAN adapter was still there. If i started loading a web page somtime it loads completly with no problems and ewerithing is fine for som time (5 min) then pages start to loading slow or not at all. And like that all the time. when i download somthing it ether downloads "fast" like 500 - 800 kbps or not at all 0kbps. On other notebooks wireless connection is ok, and at the same time when thisone is slow others do well. Win update is not slowing connection (OFF), firewall is ok, power managment set  to be max for wlan adapter. I tryed ewery solution that i found on the internet. So what is the problem (is it WLAN adapter) and how to fix it?

Answer:Wireless connection randomly drops on Aspire E1-57...

I see that you downgraded to Windows 7 and this is when you started experiencing the connectivity issue. When you installed Windows 8.1 did you restore using recovery media for a full factory restore? If not I would recommend restoring the system to its factory default settings then update all the Windows 8 drivers and BIOS. How does the system function before you update to Windows 8.1?

If the connectivity issue is not present in Windows 8, you can try the Windows 8.1 update again and then make sure to install all the Windows 8.1 drivers on our support site. (Note: There are two WLAN drivers, please make sure you install the correct on for your device.) If the problem persists, I would recommend contact technical service in your region.

Ok, weird problem, but the guy that this is happening to bugs me everyday about it.

He has a computer in his class room and it has the WUSB54G wireless adapter hooked up to the computer. I have tried using the drivers that came from the CD and the ones that came from the Linksys site. The WUSB54G is connecting to a WAP54G (Wireless Access Point) and then that goes off to WRT54G (Router), and gets its IP through DHCP. The WAP54G and WRT54G are connected by a Cat5E Network Cable.

Now this is very random. He loses connection a lot. The days I am here working it is working fine, but like after school when I am gone and he is trying to go on to the internet he can't see the wireless network. The computer is a desktop so it isn't moving all the time like a laptop. When he does lose the wireless connection sometimes he can't see any wireless networks listed and sometimes he can see them. If he can see them he can't connect to them. The WAP is about 30 - 40 ft away from his class room. We have people connecting to that WAP from over 100ft away and they don't have any problems.

Any ideas?

My internet works fine but after a random period of time, usually 20-30 minutes the internet stops responding. It's quite a long winded problem to explain but I've done my best here.

I'm using an Advent 5313 laptop with a built-in Realtek RTL8187B Wireless 802.11b/g 54Mbps USB 2.0 Network Adapter, it works with one router (BT Internet) perfectly well with no problems however it drops out randomly with my other Sky Broadband router.

Usually it loses connection with the Sky router entirely, I have to refresh the list of available wireless networks then wait a few minutes, reconnect etc. and eventually it comes back online.

Concerning solving the problem I have updated the Realtek driver several times, that stopped the random dropping out with the BT Internet router but not with the Sky router. In case you're wondering why I don't just quit Sky Broadband and use BT Internet, the routers are at two different houses.

Not sure if the problem is with the Sky router itself; we had it replaced a few months ago due to faults and my other Windows XP computer works perfectly (using a Netgear WG111v2 Wireless USB 2.0 Network Adapter).

Since I have a spare Netgear wireless USB I decided to plug it into my laptop and install the software then use it instead of my built in Realtek wireless adapter, which made the connection drop out slightly less frequently. It didn't however entirely solve the problem.

The only way I can stop the wireless connection dropping out is to plug the laptop directly to the Sky router with an Ethernet cable, this does the trick but def... Read more

Answer:Wireless connection randomly drops after Windows 7...

The only advice I can give you is to try other drivers for your model and see if one works. You can also search using this method:http://driverzone.com/node/182even if the driver you find is for different brands, it's worth trying.

My wireless connection seems to randomly disconnect, and then imediatly reconnect, dont have any frequency interference that i know of, any idea what would cause this?

i have client lease time set to a long time, so its not that.

Answer:wireless connection randomly disconnecting/reconnecting

I'm having the same exact issue, no idea what could be causing it right now though. I've tried so many things.

First however you could narrow it down: try running a wired connection briefly and see if the connection still gets interrupted.

Yeah, this started happening on my laptop about two months ago. I'll be online and at random times for no reason at all the wireless internet connection will be lost so I click on the icon in the taskbar --> support --> repair and when it's done, the internet works fine, but I don't understand why it happens in the first place. It's really annoying.

Then just in the past day or two it started happening to my sister's laptop as well. Her laptop is exactly the same as mine: New since March, running XP. We've both scanned for viruses but found none.

Thanks for any help.

is this is the same house on the same router ?

It could be a few things - other networks in the area can interfire with the signal and windows will see this stronger signal and try and log onto it.

do you have a cordless phone

signal strength

interfernace on channels - changing channel may help

DNS - its possible you are losing DNS - I had this problem on my D-Link router

router may benefit from a firmware update.

can you post make model of router and laptops

Free software to check signal strength of wireless is netstumbler 0.4.0 available for download from http://www.stumbler.net/
download and install and run

can you post an IPCONFIG /ALL - for when it works normally and when it disconnects
TWO Methods to do that - some people have problems with ONE----

ONE ---------------------------------
start
run
cmd
ipconfig /all

rightclick in the box
select all
enter
control key + C key - to copy
then reply here and
control key + V to paste

TWO -----------------------------------------------

Start, Run, CMD to open a DOS window and type:

IPCONFIG /ALL >C:\RESULT.TXT

Open C:\RESULT.TXT with Notepad and copy/paste the entire results here.
NEXT lets see if you can get out onto the internet with both names and IP's - its possible the IP number you get back on the first test is different to the one I post {I'm in UK} so use the number you get instead of mine

try ping the name and then the IP see below

Hi,

I have one laptop with Windows XP on it. The problem is that keyboard and mousepad both all together die randomly but usb mouse still works. This error occurs randomly. Not everytime i use the computer.

Anyone got the same problems?
Thanks in advance!

well based on the info provided my first guess would be that the keyboard is shot.... or ... if its a toshiba TE 2000 it might be the connector that the the keyboard ribbon connects to might be loose and need resoldering...but that would be the only 2 i can think of right at the moment... let us know how you fix it so it can possibly be of help to others

My computer is being extremely odd right now. Randomly, usually while gaming but at other times also, it will just die. When this happens, it kinda just freezes while repeating the same sound on a loop. It loses all video and sounds like all the insides shut off. When it does this, hitting reset doesn't really work, and usually I cannot turn it off and back on. If I try, I get no beep in POST which indicates to me it would be CPU or MoBo...maybe a power supply?

If I unplug the power from the back for a minute, I can restart it and it will go through POST with the beep and all, and say CPU is unworkable or has been changed, and then play fine for anywhere between 5 minutes to many hours with no problems, then it will happen again.

I cannot tell what wattage my PS is. I built most of this computer about 5 years ago, and have since modded the power supply case, and lost the sticker. The CPU is the original one I got when I built it, the MoBo is 4 years old, and the video card is new.

it seems to happen most often when playing video or playing facebook games of any type. there is no warning the computer is just OFF. it has done this in safe mode as well and i wasn't even watching video or playing any games then. the only time it has done this before it was over heated. now sometimes it is hot and others it is not so it really seems random. no viruses, no malware, regular maintenance is kept up. if i can find a solution other than formatting the machine that would be great, or at least knowing if formatting would do me any good at all. i have downloaded hijack this and the TSGInfo follows:

I have Lenovo T500 Thinkpad for around one year. The laptop started to die randomly without any notification, no blue screen, no shut down, it just dies as if there is no power to the laptop. First I thought it could be a problem with the battery so I replaced my battery with the battery of another Lenovo T500. Even after that the problem persisted. So I removed the battery and just connected the laptop to AC power. The laptop does not die any more and I didnt face any issues. What could cause a problem like this? Whenever I connect the battery, the battery icon on the task bar says its charging and even if I use the battery alone the laptop works fine for sometime until it dies randomly. Any help is greatly appreciated.  Thanks

As the title says, my mouse stops working for a couple of seconds and then starts working perfectly again. It mainly happens when I am playing BF3, the game freezes for a second, then I hear the usb-removal sound Windows makes and the game unfreezes but the mouse is dead, then game freezes again for a second and mouse starts working. During the moment mouse is dead all other USB connected things works, only mouse that dies.
It has happened a few times before when im not in any game.

Why is this happening? I have never had any problem with this before.
I have tried putting my mouse a different USB port and it helped for a day or two and then it happened again.

Hello, I've been having this problem for a little while now, and I figured this would be the right section to post it in (if not, please feel free to move it). This is the problem I've been having. While playing a 3D game, after a short while, one of 3 things will happen :1. The screen goes completely black and I'm left with no choice but to restart my computer.2. Similar to number one, except now the screen has random blocks of crazy colors all over, and I'm still left with no choice but to restart.3. The computer saves me the trouble of having to hit the power button, and just goes ahead and instantly restarts itself (screen goes black for a sec, and then I'm on the start up screen). And one more problem that I've chosen to separate from those 3; sometimes my computer just completely freezes and I need to restart. This happens seemingly randomly, at any time.I suspect this has something to do with a new video card I installed recently. I've had those 3 problems a bit before, but they are occurring much more frequently with the new card, and the random freezing thing is something new. So perhaps I installed it incorrectly, or its in some way not compatible with my system? I don't know, thats why I come here to ask you guys, any ideas whats going on?Video Card : Nvidia GeForce FX 5200**Might be worth noting that I did not purchase this hardware, it was given to me by a friend, therefor I have no documentation or disc with it**Misc System... Hello there,
I've been pondering around this problem for quite a while now and I finally decided to inquire the mighty crowds of computer wisdom i.e. you all

I've had this exact same problem in my previous system (with Windows 7 32-bit and quite a bit different internals) but it wasn't nearly as frequent as it is now (with Windows 7 64-bit and brand new CPU/MB/RAM/GPU) - however, this problem never happened on my previous box while it had Windows XP installed for a short while. Namely, the audio in Windows would stop working at random, every app that uses an audio interface would freeze when attempting to access any sink, I can't change the volume or mute anything, and I cannot even reset the Windows Audio service (reset times out) when that happens - the only solution is to reboot after which everything works just fine. The only difference between my old system and this one is that now I rarely get the reset procedure to 'freeze' on 'explorer.exe - Playing log-off sound...' (requiring to force restart to continue the process), but now it more often hangs at 'Shutting down...' screen requiring a physical restart.

My audio stack consists of the integrated sound (disabled, I don't need it, but in my previous setup it was enabled) and two USB-based sound sinks, namely Logitech Z Cin?ma speakers (Default Device) and Logitech G930 headset (Default Communications Device). Both are connected directly to the motherboard USB ports so it's not a problem with wonky USB hubs.

Hiyya inco and welcome for starters I am definitely no expert mate I run a straight forward Asus Xonar DG card (the Xonar supports 7:1 systems) with my Ivy B with a Logitec Z 506 speaker set up and I have no probs at all, and it is a fairly cheap card at that.
Now I don't know what your audio set up is and it sounds like Ben Hur to me but just as a suggestion why not try a different brand card? I just really like the Asus control module that comes with mine and Asus do a really nice range of sound cards.

I am just getting a gut feeling the Logitec card is not the full dollar.

Setting the system to not allow it to turn off the card. I also changed it to high performance as well but none of these things seem to have worked. At this point I'm out of ideas and thus is why I'm here..

Yet another problem with my peice of crap i call the "computer".

I got a new monitor at xmas, hoping to solve the problems i was haveing with my old one too no avail however.

Sometimes when im playing games etc it just looses the signal from the computer. Im using a 9800 pro 128MB graphics card, and cant understand why this is happening. The computer is still running fine though. It just wont display anything. Why could this be? I only got the card 3 months ago, it shoudlnt be doing this. It also at random intervals decides to artifact and under both circumstances i have to switch off for a while and wait before it will work again.

Things ive checked.

The card i sseated properly.
uninstalled it and reinstalled it
using latest drivers.
Using Direct X 9c
On board VGA automatically disables when AGP card is plugged in.
when uninstalled it seems to run fine from the motherboard connection (Hence im thinking dodgy card)
The car dis connected to the power supply as is nescessary.

Im totally stumped here. I can live with the situation but its not ideal, especially whe im playing gamesa and it just dies on me. Its as though the card is stopping sending the signal to my monitor.

Could this be a dodgy card? If so who do i contact about it? The place i bought the card from, or the manufacturer??

Any help would be great. Thanks.

I got this laptop 2 months ago and it worked just fine but lately it's been dying randomly (the battery was at 98%) for absolutely no reason, no prompts all i can hear is a sound coming from the hard disk just as if the laptop was force shut down by holding the power button key. The laptop temperatures weren't high at the time (mostly all components @ 45°C). I use this laptop for college and it's been REALLY unreliable & I can't return it at this time since I'm at a dorm and i don't think it would even get a RMA since it happens randomly (you can't expect it at all - i only had word and microsoft edge opened and poof it's dead) - also i can always start it again instantly but SOMETIMES it dies again in the booting process. Also I successfully ran an Aida64 stress test until the battery died normally (it did NOT shut down). Any suggestions on what i should do? Edit: oops i sent this twice by accident

I've had this laptop for about 2 weeks, and have Windows 10.  A couple of days or so ago, I unplugged it and took it into another room to use.  It was on battery at least 6 hours with no problems.  It's been plugged in since then. I just looked at the battery meter and it shows only 35% power remaining.  Why is it not fully recharged by now?

I have had my 3000 N100 Thinkpad for around 2 years now and after a year and a half I realised the Battery was no longer charging, soon after this happened my Laptop would just die randomly, when I say die I mean there is no shutdown screen  it is as iff all power to the p.c. suddenly stopped. At first I though it must be a Virus but after numerous scans and re-installing Windows the problem re-occured, Today I opened the P.C. and checked the fan as I thought maybe it was over heating and eventually giving in, I was relieved to see a load of dust and used the vacumn to clear the fan.I thought that would fix the problem but now if anything it seems worse, I know the battery is dead as the charge level is 0 and the battery indicator on the front of the laptop flashes 5 times organge before disappears completely...In a Final attempt I have disconnected the battery completely and am now running it only on the power adapter, I don't know if this will work but I need to do something...What could cause a problem like this, all of my settings are correct my power settings are set to always on with no hibernation.Any help will be wonderful. Thanks

Hi All,

I've got an older Acer Timeline 4810t running Windows 7. We recently switched from Cox Cable internet to AT&T U-Verse, and I've started noticing that my internet connection will randomly go out when I am connected. This occurs whether I am on a wired or wireless connection. Specifically, I will be browsing the web and, randomly, when I try to pull up a website, I get an error indicating that I cannot connect to that website because I am not connected to the internet. When I check the status of my connection in the bottom right corner, it will show that I am connected to the internet. If I disconnect the ethernet cable (or disconnect and reconnect to the wifi network), the internet service is restored, although it continues to randomly lose connection.

I initially thought that it was a U-Verse issue, so AT&T came out and replaced the router. Unfortunately, I still got the random drops. I then thought it was a Windows issue, so I reformatted by hard drive and reinstalled Windows - still having that issue.

My wife has an older Macbook and does not have this problem. We also do not have this problem with any of the tablets or phones that connect to the network wirelessly.

I am beyond frustrated and do not know what to do. I also don't know if this is a sign that my laptop is at the end of its life, which would be unfortunate since I've only owned the laptop for about 3 years (my last laptop, a Dell, is on year 7 and still churning).

Any suggestions/advice w... Read more

Answer:Internet Access Randomly Drops on Wired & Wireless Connection

Forgot to mention that I've got an Intel 5100 wifi card and an Atheros ethernet controller.

After further research, it may appear that the wifi disonnection issue is a known issue regarding this wifi card (Intel WiFi Link 5100 AGN problem - disconnecting). Just weird because I only recently had this problem pop up; this also does not explain why my wired connection randomly drops.

I'll play around with the router, driver and the settings some more tonight to see if I can figure out what's wrong.

I have my PC and PS3 wired to a netgear router and a laptop connected wirelessly.

The laptop for some reason loses it's connection randomly and loses it's connection in 2 minute to 20 minute intervals. I sometimes have to manually reconnect to my router by searching for it and reconnecting in the Network and Sharing Center.

No idea why it's started happening now, I reset the router to factory settings recently because of the same problem a couple of days ago and it's still happening. The PC and PS3 work fine, just the wireless keeps dropping. Using Vista and I don't think it's the laptop as it can constantly see my neighbours connections, only my router is occasionally disappearing.

Any help is much appreciated.

Hello, I have been having a problem with my wireless internet connection for the past 2 weeks. I just started randomly losing my wireless connection for no reason at all. I thought it was my modem which is the isp's, so I called them and they assured me that everything from their end looked good. I also was able to bypass the router and use internet with no problem. So then I assumed there was a problem with my router, so I exchanged it for a new router, that turned out to not be the problem. I can't figure out what my problem is. I ran Uniblue registry editor to fix and registry errors. In device manager it says my network adapter is working properly. I was able to get onto the internet today wireless and I thought I had fixed the problem, but lo and behold when I woke up I no longer could get on wireless internet through my network. I did do an ipconfig/all while it was working. So here are the logs, first when I had it working this afternoon, and second tonight when I can't connect to the internet. Any help is greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Hold the Windows key and press R, then type CMD (COMMAND for W98/WME) to open a command prompt:

In the command prompt window that opens, type type the following commands one at a time, followed by the Enter key:

Do NOT include the <> either, they're just to identify the values for substitution.

the last two days my machine has suffered a crash with similar symptoms. First, the display goes blank. I can see some disk activity. This continues for maybe 20-30 seconds and then the machine shuts down. Yesterday, I had to restart the machine twice b/c the first attempt also resulted in a shutdown during the boot process.I thought that perhaps it was an overheating issue, but I'm not convinced of that as today there was nothing obstructing the exhaust vents (though they were a bit dusty).I'm runing windows 7 pro, 64 bit. Have an NVidia card, but I don't know about the details. Where would I find them? Thanks in advance.

I bought new pc parts this week and also bought Windows 10 Home while I was at it, due to W7 not accepting USB 3.0. But shortly after, I started having bad audio problems when using my headset, which is connected to my motherboard's rear 3.5mm output.

The symptoms consist of:

Question: Connection Dies

I'm running XP and I use a Speedtouch router to connect to the net.

Mostly everything works well but sometimes I get the "this page cannot be displayed" message on Firefox and I can't even log into my Router!
(even when the router lights say everything is working: ethernet, DSL, internet)

When I reboot the problem goes away and it doesn't happen very often but whats' going wrong?

Question: Connection Dies

I have a PC that will not maintain an Internet connection. It will dial up fine and allow me to surf several pages, but soon after it just dies, and will not transmit any more data.

Things I've done: Replaced Modem(twice), Formatted and re-installed windows(98 and 2k), and tried a different provider. No matter what I do, the connection just dies. I know this is an impossible question, but I don't know what else to try.

Thanks,

dtugg

ps: This question might need to be moved to the hardware forum.

Howdy, guys. Problem is my 256Kb ADSL connection stops working after a while. it doesnt disconnect or anything but suddenly just stop working. the little computers that denote the working conenction still flash but no pages load, and downloads halt and i have to restart to get it working again. this could happen after 10 minutes or after 5 hours of being conencted.
One thing i do suspect is eMule or my firewall (McAfee Firewall Plus 6). just because emule was running at the times when this happened, but only recently.
Anyone know a way out? thnx

My comp specs are Core 2 Duo 2.4, 8 gigs of ram, Asus p5b-e motherboard, Geforce 8800 640mb ram, Killer NIC Network card.

I've had this problem since I moved into my new townhome 6 months ago, which is unfortnately the same time I built my new comp from the ground up, so I can't really pinpoint if it's my comp or isp. I have Roadrunner, and for whatever reason, when I'm downloading large files via torrent or IRC or even on the web, my internet connection will die, however the lights on my modem remain all lit up. It usually takes roughtly 10-20 minutes before all downloads will cease, and I cannot get a web browser or any Internet program to work even though the cable modem says I'm connected. I have to unplug the power cable to the modem so it basically reboots, then I can resume downloads without rebooting the actual computer.

I thought this problem was with my onboard Ethernet adapter on the mb, so I bought the Killer network card, still Internet activity dies within 20 minutes if, but only if I'm downloading. If I'm not downloading, the comp will retain a true connection all day and night. So, then I thought the problem was Roadrunner, so I had them replace the modem, and still the problem persists. It's as if my computer says to me, "I can't take anymore downloading right now, you're screwed," and kills my Internet connection, virtually invisibally.

I don't think it's a ram problem because I can play games for hours just fine. It can't be a hard drive ... Read more

check to see if any programs are set to run when the computer is idle or if the nic has the box ticked to allow windows to shut it down when not in use.

windows assumes the computer is idle if the keyboard/mouse are not being used and will start tasks or enter power save mode when no keyboard entry is made.

Hi

I'm having trouble with my internet the past few days, I'm connected to the internet via wifi and after browsing some minutes it will tell me unable to connect (using firefox and other explorers). In order to continue browsing I must refresh the page several times and it will load without pictures.

I'm using win7 home premium and it's the only computer that presents this issue. I've tried pluging the computer directly to the router, but it gives me the same results. Also, I've scanned the computer for malware with MCafee, but it shows nothing.

any help would be appreciated a lot.
Thanks in advice.

Yesterday for some reason my internet connection just dies like clock work every 10 minutes then I have to restart my computer and it's fine for another 10 minutes. I have no idea what would be causing this, I have ran adaware and spybot and haven't found much. Any help would be much appreciated. Also I have another computer hooked up on the same network and it's working fine and hasn't dropped connection yet! I am using windows XP and I was using AVG Free and Adaware on this computer but I just uninstalled them hoping it would help.

OK please help me!!! I am running the following machine:

Nvidia AN8 Ultra motherboard, AMD 3700 processor,
1 gig ram, 250 gig SATA harddrive, nvidia 6600 graphics
card

Windows XP professional SP2 fully patched & upgraded

Firewall: Sygate
Antivirus: AVG

My ISP is Telewest Blueyonder Broadband, I have a Motorala SURFboard cable modem SB5101E, it is connected to my PC via an ethernet card built in to my motherboard: I have a 1934 net adapter & Nvidia nforce networking controller these are both enabled.

My broadband works for a few hours but then stops, the four green lights are still on the modem indicating that the modem is still getting a signal & I know it is not my ISP going down as this happens frequently & people in my area who are also with them have no problems.

I have disabled all the power saving features & disabled the enable wake lan thingy in BIOS.

This never happened when I ran thru USB, so it could be my network adapter.
Does any one else have this prob?

I may not have all the correct drivers or have set it up properly

Please help

Thanks

Answer:Internet Connection Dies Please Help

Hey MZPRESTO,
This may be totally offbase but when you listed your motherboard it rang a bell about something I read in another post. I looked at the specs and one of the features is "Native NVIDIA Firewall via NF4 Ultra".
I'm wondering if you have that feature enabled and if it could possibly be conflicting with your connection. I think there are some bugs with that firewall feature and I don't know if it has been fixed yet. There was a thread about that recently and I can't remember what was said.
You might check that out.
Someone else might have some other ideas I'm sure.

My Verizon GT704-WG modem/router loses its connection to DSL at least once a week. A power cycle fixes it, but when it drops in the middle of a huge HD upload or a CoD match it is extremely aggrivating.

My network is setup like this. GT704-WG with non-Verizon firmware in Bridge mode to a Belkin F5D7230-4 v1444 running DD-WRT v24-sp2 (09/30/09) micro - build 13000M VINT Eko Firmware. Wirelessly connected to a Mac, a PC, an iPhone and a Kubuntu Server.

When the DSL goes down the DSL light on the router goes out and slowly flashes. Accessing the web portal for the modem, the status says disconnected and clicking Connect does nothing. A 15 second power cycle fixes the problem and the internet is back.
Any help would be great.

I have a reliable ADSL connection which worked fine with my first modem (until it melted). My new modem is a Binatone ADSL 2000. I usually connect to my PC through the USB port. Sometimes the connection works fine for hours and sometimes it dies after a few minutes.

The point is I think the modem is basically OK because the RJ45 connection allows me to continue using the internet on a laptop after it has died on the PC.

I am running XP Home (it has service pack 2 but this problem pre-dated that). I have Norton Internet Security. On the advice of binatone customer support I have just removed a few minor bits of spyware - I used Ad-Aware. I also disabled power-saving on the USB ports. None of this has made any difference.

I'm wondering if this is some obscure setting in windows. I haven't noticed any pattern in the failures but am just generally getting frustrated.

I would be grateful for any suggestions

i hope this is the right section...

i have a problem with my connection, this has been happening for the longest but lately its become worse.

my setup is my cable modem to my linksys wrt (wireless 54 model with speedboost) and from there on everything is done wirelessly.

whenever im torrenting on my main computer that has a dell wireless usb adapter, my connection will fail just randomly after sometime (keep in mind that this seems to speed up the process because the connection dies even when im not torrenting), not really something that happens on a timely basis but completely random. i get that little icon on the taskbar with the connection showing a hazard sign. when the connection fails it will bring all the internet down with it, so if i were to try and use the wifi on my iphone it wont work, the same for other devices, but as soon as i reset the connection in windows through the adapter everything goes back to normal but eventually it will fail in time.

how do you guys think i can fix this? and what is the cause of the problem, is it the router, adapter or modem?

right now im leaning towards the router since it affects my whole home "network".

thanks

Answer:Connection constantly dies

What torrent client are you using? Lower the amount of connections it makes (you are overloading your router).

Answer:internet connection dies on me

Just getting this into My Postings to find it, as I'm having similar problems sporadically lately. My error messages vary - Unable to establish connection/no answer/line busy. Then mysteriously OK. Maybe the problem's somewhere else, and I don't need to correct anything (except impatience)?I'm on pay-as-you-go dialup with Eircom (Ireland's equivalent of BT).What sometimes seems to work with me is changing some ISP setting, changing it back again & resetting. But maybe it's just the lapse of time that does it!

Hi guys - hope you can help...

Over the past few weeks my Internet connections seems to suddenly stop after a few hours. No website can be accessed; and only a system reboot will 'revive' the internet connection.

I've ran anti-spyware, anti-virus and anti-trojan scanner but all have shown a clean system. I cannot understand what's going on?

Here's my HiJakThis log... perhaps someone can help.

Thanks!

I'm having trouble with a couple Anti-Virus programs, namely Panda Internet Security and NOD32. As soon as I install these programs and restart my computer the internet connection between my computer and modem gets cut off. I can see there is still activity on my cable modem, but there is no connectivity according to my computer. Has anyone heard of this problem and any solutions? You help is greatly appreciated here.

I have two computers, an xbox and a ps3 that are all connected and just fine.
The only issue is my computer (The one that belongs to me of the two)

It loses connection while everything else is still able to be connected
because of this I figure it must be my computer that has the problem,
but the thing is I have no idea what that would be.

If anyone has any idea of what on my computer could be causing the problem
please let me know.

I have ran AVG to scan for viruses, Scanned with Malwarebytes, and use system defragment
I've tried deleting useless things on my computer to no avail.

would you post the following tests when the internet is working OK, and then repeat ALL the tests when the internet disconnects.
Make sure you also indicate on the reply which tests are for what condition.

if you are connected by wireless, please include the xirrus screen shots for both conditions - see how below.

Please post back here the make and exact model of the router and if you have a separate modem, the make and exact model of the modem.

Please make a note of the status of the lights on the modem and on the router when working normally - post that light status here.
Now when the internet disconnects make a note of the status of the lights for the modem and router here again. also note which have changed.

What firewall / security suite or anti-virus do you currently have on the PC - or you have ever had on the PC in the past - any trial ware - like Norton, Mcafee , AVG etc

ipconfig /all
If you cannot access the internet with this PC, then you will need to paste the results into something like notepad and then copy onto a machine that can access the internet and post the results in a reply here.
Save the file to a USB flash drive or other removable media. Plug it into the working computer with internet access and copy the file and paste here.

My problem is that my internet connection has a tendancy to disconnect after relatively short periods of downloading and online gaming. Usually after approx. 30 - 45 minutes, or sooner if the connection is being heavily used. It is guaranteed to drop out within minutes of heavy UPLOADING.

At this point, the problem can only be fixed by REBOOTING my machine. Reseting my router or modem, and/or renewing my IP has no effect. I've run several anti-spyware programs and nothing has been found.

My suspicion at this point rest on the Ethernet card, but I can't be sure.

Does anyone have any ideas? Also, is there any software available that will allow me to monitor my computers activity to see what happens at the moment the connection dies?

Thanks!

Answer:Internet connection dies until restart!

My guess is the card also. I have a Dlink Gigabit NIC in my Dimension 8300 that I think is doing the same thing, It happens randomly but that is the only thing I can trace it back to.

Hi,

I posted this here because I assume it has more to do with my actual computer setup than anything else, but I apologize if I am mistaken.

I am currently running WinXP SP2.

I have this problem in that quite often when running my bittorrent client (Azureus), I just lose connection with my router and I cannot regain connection uintil I reboot the router...even rebooting the comuter doesn't seem to do the trick. This happens with certain trackers more than others, but only with bittorrent, and not even at extreme upload or download speeds. I can be uploading at 20kb/s and downloading at even less and lose it, when at other times I can be uploading files to web host at 200kb/s without problems...

It's quite annoying because I can't even access the router to do a reboot from it, so I have to manually reset the power on it every time this happens (which can be quite frequently).
If anyone has any ideas about this or any possible suggestions I would definately appreciate them.

Thanks in advance for your help.
