Internet dies randomly

Question: Internet dies randomly

Hello. I am in need of advice once again. I'm staying at my uncles house who uses Keyon internet service so its like broadband with some sort of dish? Anyways...

The speeds were pretty random and slow. Spikes of 3000 pings and averages of 600. Updated the firmware (7 years old) and average is under a hundred now. However the internet still just completely dies for random amounts of time... 2 seconds to a few minutes. Pings timeout to google or yahoo but not my router.

As far as the setup goes, there is a dish or antennae they have aimed a little dish on the roof towards a few miles away. The "modem" is in a plastic box attached to it. The cable runs into literally the cheapest "splitter adapter" ive ever seen, which wont work if you hook up the modem line into "data out" and the router line into "data in", which confuses me in the first place. Shouldn't that be the other way around?

Anyways, I tried wifi and wired connection. I didn't try to bypass the router completely but I don't think it will make a difference. I decided to get a ladder and look at the "modem" and I was a little shocked to say the least. I opened up the big plastic thing that stores it and it literally is just a piece of like motherboard mounted with one little screw, covered in ladybugs and cobwebs. So I sighed and just left it alone.

So now, average ping is very tolerable. 50-100. Speed is at about 2mbps which is fine. I just don't know whether to worry about the splitter thing or the modem, or whatever is past it. I couldn't even pull up the model number for the splitter adapter but I know its a super cheap hong kong brand. I honestly don't even know what its for.. converting the cable types? They seem to be identical cat 5 cables.

So besides a dirty modem board, are there any other settings or tests I can run to confirm that the internet company is responsible for the dropping? They are notoriously cheap and try to charge for just coming out in the past.

Heres a pic of the router board. Please tell me i'm not the only one who finds this to be unacceptable.

Preferred Solution: Internet dies randomly

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Not sure if I should post this here or the networking forum but I assume some nice patron will direct me to the correct place if I'm wrong.

For a while now, and for no apparent reason, my internet connection completely dies. But, it's only to my computer. My computer will slow down DRAMATICALLY, stuttering violently as I try to do anything. But if I restart my computer it comes back on as if no problem was ever there.

I am hooked through a router through an ethernet cable and my wife is connected to it wirelessly and she is never affected.

Is this an XP problem, hardware, or maybe even the hardwire ports of my router?

Help! =(

Hi!

My internet connection on my Vista machine dies after a few hours. If I restart, the connection will work again, but will die after a few hours again. I've used my computer with several different routers and for example in my friends' home network so I know the problem is in my computer because the internet connection always dies the same way. Usually if I'm listening music from my Spotify, that connection oddly stays on with that, same goes with some java based games like net poker and so on...messenger connection problem diagnostics say that problems are in the ports. Sometimes i've just been too tired to reboot and just kept doing something else with my computer without the internet connection then maybe an hour later the connection comes back to life. This problem is getting kinda old already that it's not funny anymore. Would appreciate if somebody had even a slight suggestion to repair this problem.

Hi Everyone

In my previous house I would lose connection to the internet about 2-3 times a week. Since moving into my new house it happens more like 5-15 times a day. The internet light on my modem goes out and the broadband light blinks on and off.

95% of the time when I lose the connection it is for less than 2 minutes. But on some occasions it can take a half hour to work again.

Some more info:
- It happens on all 6 computers/devices in my household at the same time. (2 Macs, Win7 PC, iPad, iPod, PS3).
- All devices are connected wirelessly to modem. But, I have also tried Ethernet and still have same problem.
- I have tried 2 modems (including a brand new one that my ISP sent after I complained).
- I have tried using different jack points and cables.
- When the connection fails, I am still able to wirelessly access my modems config page. So wifi connection is not the issue.
- My ISP sent a technician out. He replaced one cable out by the road, but this did not solve the problem.

I have spent a few hours over multiple days on the phone with my ISP. First they said there was no problem with the line. Then they said there is definitively something wrong with the line. Then nothing wrong, then something wrong. Finally after they monitored the line for 3 separate 24 periods, they decided that the problem was solved. And I thought so too... I had good connection for about 36 hours. But then it started failing again, so far today I have lost connection about 10 times... Read more

Hi there,

I can't seem to figure this problem out. Every so often (from seconds to a couple minutes) my internet connection will fail, but only for less than a second. Typically no one would even notice this, but it becomes a problem when you use software like Messenger or you play games online. The disconnection is long enough to sign you off.

I've been watching a ping I set to yahoo.com for a good 10 minutes, and sure enough, there are occasional spots where for just 1-3 attemps it will time out, then get replies just fine again.

I use a wired ethernet connection, not wireless. The ethernet port is part of my motherboard, its a fairly modern motherboard, not an old one, and I made sure the driver for it was up to date. Any ideas?

Maybe this is a hardware issue?

Answer:Win XP randomly Dies

You can test the PSU with a multimeter. Do a search on the web and you will find info on how to do this. Also, make sure the memory you put in is good. Download memtest. You'll need to put it on a bootable floppy. Then boot from the floppy and run it. It will run continously. Leave that running overnight. If it is the memory it will tell you. And if it is a problem with Winxp you'll know it because the system won't have locked up. If it does lock up the problem isn't Winxp. But rather a hardware issue.

I just received my new X1 Carbon yesterday. When I booted it up the first time the computer died after I set up username and password in Windows. Next time the same screen appeared but the username was ofcourse taken already. I logged into windows and the computer died. After 10-20 HDD checks the computer logs into windows and I can install some software (Visual Studio etc), but then it just dies again. Sometimes it can't even login to windows before it dies. I've tried to format and reinstall windows but it doesn't help, sometimes I can use it for one hour, and sometimes just for 10 seconds. I can't really say that I can see a pattern in this whether I'm using the AC chord or not.. I've also done a memory check and a harddrive check without any errors. I guess I have to return it and wait for a new one.. really disappointing =( Any ideas Lenovo?

>> Sometimes it can't even login to windows before it dies. When this happened to me on my PC a couple years ago, the problem was my one of my fans had died (either the power supply's fan or a system fan; can't remember which.) . The system was shutting itself off as a defensive reaction to overheating.

Before i start, I am Running:

WinXP-Pro, Service Pack 3
2.22 GHz Athlon 64 3500+ Processor
2 Gigs of RAM
ATI Radeon HD 2600 XT Graphics Card

What appears to happen is that once in a blue moon, without any prior warning, the entire computer will lock up solid for about 15 seconds then black screen me and none of my input or output devices will work. That means, Mouse, Keyboard, sound, Monitors, etc. They all die simultaneously. The odd part is, the computer is still working as far as I can tell as the system doesn't even hiccup.

It WAS doing this more than it is now, however it seems to have reduced somewhat. I'm guessing that it has something to do with my power supply as me replacing the 350 watt supply with a 550 watt supply (for a completely different problem) seems to have reduced the occurence of this issue. Instead of happening once or twice a week it now happens once or twice every 2 or 3 weeks. It's still annoying when it happens. Anyone have any clue?

When you boot back into your machine...check the event logs and see whats happening just prior to the failure. If you can, check after a couple of occurrences and see if there are any similarities that might point you in the right direction. Anybody else have an idea?

Hello,
I have a user with a dell latitude d620 laptop. Her external usb mouse stops working every few hours-- apparently when she's doing nothing out of the ordinary, the "installing new hardware" dialog comes up randomly, and when she cancels out of it, the mouse will stop working at a slightly later time. Even the red LED light on the bottom of the mouse goes out.

We've tried different models USB mice, attaching it directly to a USB port on the laptop, via the USB port on the laptop dock, and even with a USB->PS/2 adapter via the dock's PS/2 port.... all with the same results. Every time, when the mouse is working fine, it'll pop up the 'installing new hardware' dialog, and afterwards it just suddenly stops working.

Any ideas? I have no idea what's going on.

She's running windows xp sp3 with symantec endpoint, all the usual office software, really nothing out of the ordinary.
thanks,
Mitch

Question: Y500 randomly dies

Hello, Borught a y500 on amazon a few months ago, its runs great. However, the laptop suddenly just dies randomly, no blue screen, no shut down menu. It just dies, I reboot and check event viewer and its says it crashed(kennel-power). So then I checked for viruses, ran scans for chkdsk, sfc /scannow, and memory diagnostics, everything was fine. It also didn't overheat since the laptop died without gaming at all. The barrtery was plugged in as well I reset windows 8 just to check if its the OS's fault. It just died again today. If it's a hardware issue, what can I do to find out what component of hte computer is wonky? Would the limited warranty help me?

Hi everyone, I've been having the same problem for months now and have finally decided to try to get some help after attempting multiple fixes. I use both a wired connection and wireless connection on my new laptop depending on where I am in the house (if I'm hooked up to my docking station its wired, otherwise i'll be on the wireless). The wired connection works fine, but the wireless connection will often completely die on me without any apparent cause. I'm pretty sure the problem is with my laptop due to the following reasons:

1) My dad uses the same connection when he works from home, and told me he doesn't have any problems with it.
2) Just for testing services, I tried using a neighbors WiFi connection, and received the same results.

I've tried changing my DNS server between OpenDNS, Google's DNS, etc. and have not had any luck. I made sure my wireless cards weren't sleeping by un-checking 'allow the computer to turn off this device to save power'. I uninstalled Hamachi to make sure it wasn't messing up any of my settings and still had the same problems. I've updated all my drivers and even re-installed them.

Just to describe what exactly happens during these disconnects, any live connections prior to the point where the internet disconnects stay alive (usually, such as Skype calls, AIM connections, certain games, etc.) and will stay open until closed. Web pages behave in a similar fashion, and in fact will ... Read more

I've just bought the components for a new PC, and a friend has built it for me. Everything works fine for hours at a time, I can be playing games, browsing the internet, whatever. Then all of a sudden the PC cuts out, exactly as it would in a power cut, except for an almighty fan noise that kicks in and stays on until I hold the power button down to force the power off. When I say an almighty fan noise, I mean the loudest noise I've ever heard a PC make. I thought it was a hair-dryer turning itself on in the room the first time it happened.

Temperature doesn't seem to be an issue, everything's always around 40 degrees, and before I took it home the guy who built it stress tested it for hours up to 90 degrees without any problem. It has always cut out during web browsing (never whilst gaming) although that's probably just a coincidence.

Any suggestions? I literally have no clue whatsoever, what with being somewhat PC illiterate.

Hi! T420 touchpad dies and trackpoint keeps on working. Sometimes after some time the trackpoint may also die. After boot, touchpad & trackpad recovers and is working maybe for an hour, or a day. Then it reoccurs. This happens randomly on some T420's, while other T420's doesnt encounter it never-ever. Any tips how to troubleshoot this one? Ran Lenovo PC Doctor and everything is fine, also cant find anything suspicious in Windows logs. Thanks in advance!

My computer has been randomly dying when i play graphic intense games. (Everquest 2, World of Warcraft, etc) The monitor says no signal and goes to standby and the sound plays the last sound playing for a few loops. I need to hold down the power button to turn it off. Sometimes after this happens the computer refuses to turn on afterwards, i would have to try a couple of times.

I have tried booting with only 1 of the 2 ram sticks (for both) and came with the same results. If the computer was already able to boot, it will. If it wasn't, it wont. I do not have an extra video card to test, and do not want to buy one until i know it REALLY is the problem.

Any input/ suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Got my X1 Carbon yesterday. Does have the loose clickpad. Worse issue - it would power down randomly - as in you are typing and suddenly it goes completely dead, as in "lights out" or someone pull the plug type dead. Also does not sleep properly - often when it goes to sleep it dies and you get an improper windows shutdown warning when you restart it. Happens both with AC power and battery power. Was on hold for 1.5 hours trying to reach a sales rep to make an exchange and got disconnected. Tried to do factory restore just to see what will happen but F11 on startup does not work. The notebook looks great but otherwise I can't say I am very happy with my experience.

Way to go Lenovo... 20th Anniv. flagship model and units are shipping with missing parts, poor build quality/loose screws and who knows what other issues will appear in another week. If mine isn't perfect when I receive it on Monday it will be my last Lenovo. Your long-time Thinkpad users are very disappointed... What a joke! EDIT: Now it looks like we're getting DOA's... Awesome. Who's building these things?!

I have a Dell Inspiron 15-5547 running Win 8.1. Every now and then the scroll feature (two fingers vertical swipe to scroll the screen), and the two finger tap for right click, will stop working. When this happens, all the other features on the touchpad seem to work. If I restart the laptop it starts working again. I've tried going into services.msc and setting 'Human Interface Devices" to automatic startup, but it doesn't help. There's something else pretty weird also... When I go into the system tray (lower right), right click the touchpad icon, and select Touchpad Properties, it takes me into the Dell Pointing Devices windows. Inside this window, there is a sliding switch to disable the touchpad. When I disable it, the touchpad still works. Weird. Does anybody have any ideas how I can get this sorted out. I'm also using a wireless USB mouse on the same laptop, not sure if that makes a difference. Thanks.

Answer:Touchpad scroll dies randomly

Hi Jools

Personally I would look to see what touchpad driver version you are using and then either update it with an in-place update, or uninstall (my favourite option, then install new driver) the current driver and then re-install, as it may just be a slight corruption.

Latest driver HERE
Also a thought, when the touchpad stops with the scroll feature, had your laptop been left not used for a period of time, like hibernation?

I've had a X41 Tablet for about 2.5 years now. Just recently in the past month it will randomly die on me, meaning it will lose all power (No shutdown screen, nothing). If I try to turn it back on, nothing will happen. If I plug in the AC adapter, still no power. The only way I can get it to start back up is if I remove the battery, then place it back in forcefully or wiggle the battery around while it is back in the slot. If it does restart, the battery is still charged like nothing had happened. So it isn't the battery losing it's charge. I even tried putting another battery in from one of the X41 tablets in our office after the computer had died and it wouldn't start. My thoughts are it has something to with the connection on the board. Any other thoughts or ways to fix this? Thanks,JohnMessage Edited by cranjx on 06-11-2008 10:34 AM

I've had this laptop over a year now, and just recently I've noticed when I leave it on a while and come back, either the audio of the entire laptop will die, or online videos just won't play. After restarting it goes back to normal until a few hours later when it happens again. I'm not sure what to do here. Can anyone help me out?

Answer:Audio/Video randomly dies?

You are not alone with this problem, since the last windows 8 update there is sound problems with a lot of PCs. You can try this quick solution here :

You just need to enter to the Control Panel -> security and System -> System -> Device Manager

Then look for "sound, video and game controllers" put the cursor over it press right-click and select "scan for hardware changes"

3 secs after that you will have your sound working again, you gonna need to repeat this procedure every time the sound is gone in your PC and till now it always worked to me.

This should solve your problem for now, we need to wait for Microsoft's next windows 8 update, it hopefully will fix the problem in a more permanent way.

Greetings.

Well... I had a Win 7 Ultimate 64bit on this very machine (the one in my preferences) for almost 3 years until the moment when I said to myself: OK, time to refresh. And that only because my port 80 would die sometimes....sometimes thrice an hour for 10-15 min, sometimes twice a day. But it would happen every day. I re-installed with the hope it was just a bad Win installation but it happened again after just an hour in. What I tried? Well, I certainly tried a new router, but it didn't help. I knew it wouldn't since I also run Linux and OS X in home network and none is affected by this. I scanned old and new Win 7 with every possible malware finder, antivirus..etc. Even bought one (I have an "allergy" when it comes to A/Vs and such in general).. I went drastic today, I disconnected all devices (hdds, usbs, dvdroms, pcie) just to prove my point.. left a single 60 GB SSD with brand new win 7 with default drivers .. Took several hours but I still lost port 80 (it seems to be just port 80 since only browsers and windows LIVE are affected on my system)...Skype, FTP, rsync.. they'll all work just fine while nothing else web-wise does.

Help please! Any suggestions will be tested and reported.

it seems to happen most often when playing video or playing facebook games of any type. there is no warning the computer is just OFF. it has done this in safe mode as well and i wasn't even watching video or playing any games then. the only time it has done this before it was over heated. now sometimes it is hot and others it is not so it really seems random. no viruses, no malware, regular maintenance is kept up. if i can find a solution other than formatting the machine that would be great, or at least knowing if formatting would do me any good at all. i have downloaded hijack this and the TSGInfo follows:

As the title says, my mouse stops working for a couple of seconds and then starts working perfectly again. It mainly happens when I am playing BF3, the game freezes for a second, then I hear the usb-removal sound Windows makes and the game unfreezes but the mouse is dead, then game freezes again for a second and mouse starts working. During the moment mouse is dead all other USB connected things works, only mouse that dies.
It has happened a few times before when im not in any game.

Why is this happening? I have never had any problem with this before.
I have tried putting my mouse a different USB port and it helped for a day or two and then it happened again.

well based on the info provided my first guess would be that the keyboard is shot.... or ... if its a toshiba TE 2000 it might be the connector that the the keyboard ribbon connects to might be loose and need resoldering...but that would be the only 2 i can think of right at the moment... let us know how you fix it so it can possibly be of help to others

Hello there,
I've been pondering around this problem for quite a while now and I finally decided to inquire the mighty crowds of computer wisdom i.e. you all

I've had this exact same problem in my previous system (with Windows 7 32-bit and quite a bit different internals) but it wasn't nearly as frequent as it is now (with Windows 7 64-bit and brand new CPU/MB/RAM/GPU) - however, this problem never happened on my previous box while it had Windows XP installed for a short while. Namely, the audio in Windows would stop working at random, every app that uses an audio interface would freeze when attempting to access any sink, I can't change the volume or mute anything, and I cannot even reset the Windows Audio service (reset times out) when that happens - the only solution is to reboot after which everything works just fine. The only difference between my old system and this one is that now I rarely get the reset procedure to 'freeze' on 'explorer.exe - Playing log-off sound...' (requiring to force restart to continue the process), but now it more often hangs at 'Shutting down...' screen requiring a physical restart.

My audio stack consists of the integrated sound (disabled, I don't need it, but in my previous setup it was enabled) and two USB-based sound sinks, namely Logitech Z Cin?ma speakers (Default Device) and Logitech G930 headset (Default Communications Device). Both are connected directly to the motherboard USB ports so it's not a problem with wonky USB hubs.

Hiyya inco and welcome for starters I am definitely no expert mate I run a straight forward Asus Xonar DG card (the Xonar supports 7:1 systems) with my Ivy B with a Logitec Z 506 speaker set up and I have no probs at all, and it is a fairly cheap card at that.
Now I don't know what your audio set up is and it sounds like Ben Hur to me but just as a suggestion why not try a different brand card? I just really like the Asus control module that comes with mine and Asus do a really nice range of sound cards.

I am just getting a gut feeling the Logitec card is not the full dollar.

I have Lenovo T500 Thinkpad for around one year. The laptop started to die randomly without any notification, no blue screen, no shut down, it just dies as if there is no power to the laptop. First I thought it could be a problem with the battery so I replaced my battery with the battery of another Lenovo T500. Even after that the problem persisted. So I removed the battery and just connected the laptop to AC power. The laptop does not die any more and I didnt face any issues. What could cause a problem like this? Whenever I connect the battery, the battery icon on the task bar says its charging and even if I use the battery alone the laptop works fine for sometime until it dies randomly. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks

Hello, I've been having this problem for a little while now, and I figured this would be the right section to post it in (if not, please feel free to move it). This is the problem I've been having. While playing a 3D game, after a short while, one of 3 things will happen :1. The screen goes completely black and I'm left with no choice but to restart my computer.2. Similar to number one, except now the screen has random blocks of crazy colors all over, and I'm still left with no choice but to restart.3. The computer saves me the trouble of having to hit the power button, and just goes ahead and instantly restarts itself (screen goes black for a sec, and then I'm on the start up screen). And one more problem that I've chosen to separate from those 3; sometimes my computer just completely freezes and I need to restart. This happens seemingly randomly, at any time.I suspect this has something to do with a new video card I installed recently. I've had those 3 problems a bit before, but they are occurring much more frequently with the new card, and the random freezing thing is something new. So perhaps I installed it incorrectly, or its in some way not compatible with my system? I don't know, thats why I come here to ask you guys, any ideas whats going on?Video Card : Nvidia GeForce FX 5200**Might be worth noting that I did not purchase this hardware, it was given to me by a friend, therefor I have no documentation or disc with it**Misc System... My computer is being extremely odd right now. Randomly, usually while gaming but at other times also, it will just die. When this happens, it kinda just freezes while repeating the same sound on a loop. It loses all video and sounds like all the insides shut off. When it does this, hitting reset doesn't really work, and usually I cannot turn it off and back on. If I try, I get no beep in POST which indicates to me it would be CPU or MoBo...maybe a power supply?

If I unplug the power from the back for a minute, I can restart it and it will go through POST with the beep and all, and say CPU is unworkable or has been changed, and then play fine for anywhere between 5 minutes to many hours with no problems, then it will happen again.

I cannot tell what wattage my PS is. I built most of this computer about 5 years ago, and have since modded the power supply case, and lost the sticker. The CPU is the original one I got when I built it, the MoBo is 4 years old, and the video card is new.

CPU Type Intel Pentium 4, 3000 MHz (15 x 200)
Motherboard Name Abit IC7-G (5 PCI, 1 AGP Pro, 4 DDR DIMM, Audio, Gigabit LAN, IEEE-1394)
System Memory 3072 MB (PC3200 DDR SDRAM)
Video Adapter NVIDIA GeForce 7800 GS (256 MB)
Audio Adapter Creative Audigy SE (SB0570) Sound Card

I come here to find the experts to help. I cannot afford to change everything or build a whole new computer, so I'm hoping someone will have had this problem before and save me lots of money by telling me what... Read more

I got this laptop 2 months ago and it worked just fine but lately it's been dying randomly (the battery was at 98%) for absolutely no reason, no prompts all i can hear is a sound coming from the hard disk just as if the laptop was force shut down by holding the power button key. The laptop temperatures weren't high at the time (mostly all components @ 45°C). I use this laptop for college and it's been REALLY unreliable & I can't return it at this time since I'm at a dorm and i don't think it would even get a RMA since it happens randomly (you can't expect it at all - i only had word and microsoft edge opened and poof it's dead) - also i can always start it again instantly but SOMETIMES it dies again in the booting process. Also I successfully ran an Aida64 stress test until the battery died normally (it did NOT shut down). Any suggestions on what i should do? Edit: oops i sent this twice by accident

I've had this laptop for about 2 weeks, and have Windows 10. A couple of days or so ago, I unplugged it and took it into another room to use. It was on battery at least 6 hours with no problems. It's been plugged in since then. I just looked at the battery meter and it shows only 35% power remaining. Why is it not fully recharged by now?

I've been having an issue with my X270 laptop since I bought it. The laptop is running Windows 10. What happens is randomly (this can take weeks, or days) the trackpad and pointing stick completely stops working. The only solution is to uninstall the drivers and reinstall them using an external mouse. I've tried various versions of the drivers, including the latest, and it still continues to happen. Any solutions to fix this?

Yet another problem with my peice of crap i call the "computer".

I got a new monitor at xmas, hoping to solve the problems i was haveing with my old one too no avail however.

Sometimes when im playing games etc it just looses the signal from the computer. Im using a 9800 pro 128MB graphics card, and cant understand why this is happening. The computer is still running fine though. It just wont display anything. Why could this be? I only got the card 3 months ago, it shoudlnt be doing this. It also at random intervals decides to artifact and under both circumstances i have to switch off for a while and wait before it will work again.

Things ive checked.

The card i sseated properly.
uninstalled it and reinstalled it
using latest drivers.
Using Direct X 9c
On board VGA automatically disables when AGP card is plugged in.
when uninstalled it seems to run fine from the motherboard connection (Hence im thinking dodgy card)
The car dis connected to the power supply as is nescessary.

Im totally stumped here. I can live with the situation but its not ideal, especially whe im playing gamesa and it just dies on me. Its as though the card is stopping sending the signal to my monitor.

Could this be a dodgy card? If so who do i contact about it? The place i bought the card from, or the manufacturer??

Any help would be great. Thanks.

I have had my 3000 N100 Thinkpad for around 2 years now and after a year and a half I realised the Battery was no longer charging, soon after this happened my Laptop would just die randomly, when I say die I mean there is no shutdown screen it is as iff all power to the p.c. suddenly stopped. At first I though it must be a Virus but after numerous scans and re-installing Windows the problem re-occured, Today I opened the P.C. and checked the fan as I thought maybe it was over heating and eventually giving in, I was relieved to see a load of dust and used the vacumn to clear the fan.I thought that would fix the problem but now if anything it seems worse, I know the battery is dead as the charge level is 0 and the battery indicator on the front of the laptop flashes 5 times organge before disappears completely...In a Final attempt I have disconnected the battery completely and am now running it only on the power adapter, I don't know if this will work but I need to do something...What could cause a problem like this, all of my settings are correct my power settings are set to always on with no hibernation.Any help will be wonderful. Thanks

Maybe the battery just went bad. The only way I can think of to test it would be to try the battery in another Lenovo 3000 or to try a new battery in your Lenovo 3000.

the last two days my machine has suffered a crash with similar symptoms. First, the display goes blank. I can see some disk activity. This continues for maybe 20-30 seconds and then the machine shuts down. Yesterday, I had to restart the machine twice b/c the first attempt also resulted in a shutdown during the boot process.I thought that perhaps it was an overheating issue, but I'm not convinced of that as today there was nothing obstructing the exhaust vents (though they were a bit dusty).I'm runing windows 7 pro, 64 bit. Have an NVidia card, but I don't know about the details. Where would I find them? Thanks in advance.

Answer:Thinkpad W510 Display randomly dies and then machine shuts down

If it is a W510, graphics are probably 1GB NVIDIA® Quadro® FX880M. It is hard to diagnose from a thousand miles away, but my first guess is overheating. I suggest installing TPFancontrol (free) and monitor temperatures.

I bought new pc parts this week and also bought Windows 10 Home while I was at it, due to W7 not accepting USB 3.0. But shortly after, I started having bad audio problems when using my headset, which is connected to my motherboard's rear 3.5mm output.

The symptoms consist of:
- The audio cutting out suddenly after just a few minutes of usage, e.g. 30 seconds of youtube, combined with the microphone not picking up any audio.

- Sound panel not responding occassionally or becoming sluggish. Can pop up later when clicking on things like browser tabs.

- High Definition Audio Device disappearing from choosable outputs in the notification area.

- Realtek High Definition Device disappearing from the Device Manager.

- Random pop-ups saying that I've either unplugged an audio device or I've plugged in an audio device multiple times in a row.

- Sound panel showing activity from both random thing I'm playing, and the Test Sound button, but no sound actually playing in the headset.

- Usually the sound cuts out with a small crackle, but other times it's completely silent when it happens. When loading the desktop I can hear some crackling too.

- ARK: Survival Evolved crashing, giving me a memory write error, followed by a notification of a decive being plugged in instantly after.

I've tried:
- Installing the latest drivers through windows update, realtek's latest drivers, motherboard's latest drivers and various .cab updates being rejected because the drivers "are up to date&... Read more

Question: my internet dies

Hello, I am running my internet service with Wildblue (Satelite) every few minutes the modem goes dead and resets itsself. The company has been here several times and replaced everything and did what they could but without success. I was just thinking that the " HBO.Adware.Estalive" was possibly creating the problems, this only happens when i try to connect to the intenet or use a chat program. So i was reading a post from a member on the HBO.Adware.Estalive on this site and what he was told to download and try so i downloaded the HijackThis tool and ran it but i am not able to locate what it is and how to delete it. I am running XP with a AMD 2,4 processor and have 512mb ram. I use Bitdefender 10 for antivirus, firewall, antispam and antispyware. I would really appreciate help with this from you experts on correcting this problem, thank you for your help. here is what comes up when i scan my system:

Question: Internet Dies?!

Well,

I have had this problem for a while, but now it's starting to annoy me. The problem is sometimes when you go for a site it clicks not found, you refresh and it finds it. Sometimes you have to refresh at least 6 times just to get on the site, I have disabled my firewall (WSP2) but it still does it, and after about an hour it wont find any site but I can still talk to people on msn and xfire, its not like my connection has been terminated.

This is also the case for IE and Firefox.

Answer:Internet Dies?!

Any chance you may like to give some basic details of how you connect, and what router/modem etc?

Given the vast differences between technologies such as Wireless Broadband, Dial-up, ADSL and Cable etc, we have no idea where to start.

Also what version of Windows, what ISP, have you checked or tried changing the settings for your DNS?

This question has been asked by countless people, and the Internet is filled with a wild array of answers.

If you bought an HP system many years ago, and it came with Windows XP, and you have the re-installation disc, if your system dies or needs to be recommissioned because it's unreliable, can't you use the re-installation disc to install the OS onto the new system? I've heard some limitations are involved but I don't know fact from fiction on these:

1. You can reinstall only IF you upgrade the system with the same motherboard because the key for the install is tied to the serial number of the motherboard.

2. You can reinstall only if you move the hard drive of the old system to the new one (which for me would be impossible because the old drive is IDE and the new one is SATA).

3. You can reinstall only if the new computer is a model from the same vendor (e.g., if you have the reinstall disc for a Dell computer it will only work in another Dell computer).

4. If you call MS customer support and explain that your system's motherboard has died they will "reactivate" the license for you on the new system.

5. You can't do it in any scenario because your EULA will state that you agreed to install the OS on the one computer and agreed it would not be used on another system.

Anybody have any definitive answers on this issue?

Answer:T or F: Your OEM license for Windows XP dies when your system dies.

True...simple answer to your topic title.

For the summer I'm home from school and living with my parents. They have crappy 768/128 Verizon DSL. It works, but speeds are meh.

Anyway, anytime there's a thunderstorm the internet just stops working. I'll be in my room gaming and the internet goes down, so I listen and sure enough 2-3 seconds later I hear the thunder from the lightning strike. It comes back up after maybe 10 seconds, then goes down again upon more lightning strikes.

I called up Verizon, they said it's normal, but I call shenanigans on that. No way should the internet go down on EVERY strike of lightning.

Suggestions? Thoughts?

Answer:Internet dies during Storms?!?

its probably affecting their equipment in someway or another. I live in Kansas and AT&T (formerly SBC) provides my DSL (3.0 mb) which isnt bad but every time it would rain my internet would die and my phone would get all staticy. After numerous calls to tech support (during which they assured my it was a fault in the wiring in my house) a tech finally came out and as it turns out there was a hole warn in the cable that connects my house to the telephone main line. They replaced that cable and i have been problem free ever since.

I am using Windopws XP, and recently my internet has been acting up. I am on a network hub with other computers that work fine, so I'm pretty sure it's not the network, but something with my computer.

My internet works fine right when I start up my computer, but after a while pages don't load properly, or not at all, anything I download will never complete, but stay at about 96% forever. These are the protection things I have.

Comodo - for firewall
Avast - for antivirus (scans are clean)
Spybot and Ad-Aware - scans show nothing out of the ordinary

Ask any questions so I can help you better understand, please let me know what you think.

Answer:Internet dies after a few minutes

I too have this problem.

I'm running a MacBook with XP loaded in boot camp. I have had this setup for the past 18 months or so with no problems.

However for the last 10 days, whenever I am using XP my internet connection goes down after about 10 mins. If I reboot, it then works fine for another 10 mins and goes off. Once the connection is broken, other connections like my AVG antivirus lose connection as well BUT IM programs like msn and yahoo continue to stay connected. wierd....

I have no problem when operating out of mac on the same computer and we have 5 other laptops connected to the wireless router that work with no problems as well.

any ideas? is it infected with a trojan maybe? have done full scans with updated antivirus and found nothing. Did have some trojans detected earlier this month, but i removed them sucessfully (I hope!!!!!).

have also run registry mechanic etc. even after registry problems were cleared up still have the same prob...

cheers for any ideas

OK please help me!!! I am running the following machine:

Nvidia AN8 Ultra motherboard, AMD 3700 processor,
1 gig ram, 250 gig SATA harddrive, nvidia 6600 graphics
card

Windows XP professional SP2 fully patched & upgraded

Firewall: Sygate
Antivirus: AVG

My ISP is Telewest Blueyonder Broadband, I have a Motorala SURFboard cable modem SB5101E, it is connected to my PC via an ethernet card built in to my motherboard: I have a 1934 net adapter & Nvidia nforce networking controller these are both enabled.

My broadband works for a few hours but then stops, the four green lights are still on the modem indicating that the modem is still getting a signal & I know it is not my ISP going down as this happens frequently & people in my area who are also with them have no problems.

I have disabled all the power saving features & disabled the enable wake lan thingy in BIOS.

This never happened when I ran thru USB, so it could be my network adapter.
Does any one else have this prob?

I may not have all the correct drivers or have set it up properly

Please help

Thanks

Hey MZPRESTO,
This may be totally offbase but when you listed your motherboard it rang a bell about something I read in another post. I looked at the specs and one of the features is "Native NVIDIA Firewall via NF4 Ultra".
I'm wondering if you have that feature enabled and if it could possibly be conflicting with your connection. I think there are some bugs with that firewall feature and I don't know if it has been fixed yet. There was a thread about that recently and I can't remember what was said.
You might check that out.
Someone else might have some other ideas I'm sure.

Hi,

I've been having internet problems for the past couple of months, and it's getting to be very annoying. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to figure out how to fix them.

I can use the internet without problem for about half an hour or so. Then I can't check e-mail. (I use both Eudora and Outlook, and both programs stop responding after between 20 and 40 minutes.) Later, I stop being able to visit sites. How long until that happens really varies. First pages start taking forever to load, and then they stop loading altogether.

Something else I don't understand is why I can visit a page (although it takes a bit to load), but when I ping that address, I get a "Request timed out" message.

I have an antivirus/firewall program installed, and I've done several virus checks. Nothing ever turns up. I've tried running diagnostics on the modem. Everything seems to be fine. I've checked the event log. Nothing out of the ordinary there. I've tried using different network cables, and I've updated the drivers for the network card.

I've tried pretty much everything I can think of, and that's why I'm hoping someone here will have an explanation/cure for this problem. I'm sure there are some pretty obvious (well, to computer-inclined people) things I've ignored.

Also, I have no router. The computer is hooked up directly to the modem.

Thanks,
Jennifer

Answer:Internet dies after 30-60 minutes

Looking at the event log is good but how about the firewall log? Almost sounds like your being flooded but the chances of that are very slim, especially for a single user.

Yesterday for some reason my internet connection just dies like clock work every 10 minutes then I have to restart my computer and it's fine for another 10 minutes. I have no idea what would be causing this, I have ran adaware and spybot and haven't found much. Any help would be much appreciated. Also I have another computer hooked up on the same network and it's working fine and hasn't dropped connection yet! I am using windows XP and I was using AVG Free and Adaware on this computer but I just uninstalled them hoping it would help.

My comp specs are Core 2 Duo 2.4, 8 gigs of ram, Asus p5b-e motherboard, Geforce 8800 640mb ram, Killer NIC Network card.

I've had this problem since I moved into my new townhome 6 months ago, which is unfortnately the same time I built my new comp from the ground up, so I can't really pinpoint if it's my comp or isp. I have Roadrunner, and for whatever reason, when I'm downloading large files via torrent or IRC or even on the web, my internet connection will die, however the lights on my modem remain all lit up. It usually takes roughtly 10-20 minutes before all downloads will cease, and I cannot get a web browser or any Internet program to work even though the cable modem says I'm connected. I have to unplug the power cable to the modem so it basically reboots, then I can resume downloads without rebooting the actual computer.

I thought this problem was with my onboard Ethernet adapter on the mb, so I bought the Killer network card, still Internet activity dies within 20 minutes if, but only if I'm downloading. If I'm not downloading, the comp will retain a true connection all day and night. So, then I thought the problem was Roadrunner, so I had them replace the modem, and still the problem persists. It's as if my computer says to me, "I can't take anymore downloading right now, you're screwed," and kills my Internet connection, virtually invisibally.

I don't think it's a ram problem because I can play games for hours just fine. It can't be a hard drive ... Read more

just like the Title says, when ever my internet dies i get a BSOD

the reason for my internet dying is because of the damn adapter is glitching in the output

dont see how the adapter glitching can cause a bsod

cant give anymore details because thats all i have

please help

Answer:BSOD when internet dies

adapter glitchingClick to expand...

Do you mean your LAN card?

If yes, then a faulty piece of hardware would be a primary cause for BSOD.

I would update the driver for the LAN card (go to another computer that has an active internet connection, download the driver to a thumb drive or CD, and install on the computer in question).

If the LAN jack is on your MOBO, you may have a larger issue. If it is a expansion card, try replacing it.

Hope that helps.

Hi guys I have a weird issue here which seems to make little sense. We have a small network interconnected by a switch. However all of a sudden our internet seems to be dying out in a weird way. The internet would die out after 10 minutes of use although we can browse teh network. We then turn the switch off and then on and its back to normal - but then after another 10 minutes its dies out again and we literally have someone turning the switch on and off every 10 15 minutes here what is the problem here I really need help on this. Please guys!

Hey guys, I have Comcast and have been using them for a few years now without any problems. There are a total of 4 computers using the internet, 3 using wireless, through my Linksys Wireless G Router with Speedbooster, and one connected directly to the router. Here is the problem, say I am sitting in my room browsing the internet, it will die and not be able to connect to the internet. Say in a minute or so the internet comes back...This happens to all of the computer at the same time too. I have checked all the cable connections, everything. The funny thing is my TV uses the same cable, using a splitter I believe, and it never has problems. Especially annoying when I am gaming, quite impossible actually. I am assuming it is something wrong with the cable modem.

Answer:Internet Dies, Then Reconnects

That is one possibility - the other is a marginal signal because of the splitter(s) - TV will work fine where Data won't

Call Comcast they need to check your signal strength

I have Charter Cable internet and a Motorola modem. My computer is plugged directly into the modem using a known good cable (swapped with other known good cables to be sure). The Cable feed is plugged into the modem and has a solid connection.

When I'm using the internet, every little while, it will just die. I still have a link light to and from the modem, but I cannot recieve ANY data from the modem itself. I cannot access the modem's control page, I get booted off IM programs, downloads stop, web pages stop loading. I've attempted to renew the IP address, but that NEVER works.

In order to get the internet working again, I must pull the power plug from my modem and do a hard reset (cannot access the control page to do a 'soft' reset). Is this my modem, or is this my internet service being down? Once I reboot the modem, I can access the modem's control page. I can post logs if that will help.

My firewall isn't interfearing, it isn't even showing me getting data from the modem.

I'm using onboard LAN on my mainboard.

This is a problem because I run [email protected] and my productivity is dropping becaues the clients cannot contact the server.

If this modem is toast, I'm just going to send it back to charter and buy one from Circuit City (lower bill).

So lately this week my internet has been dying sometimes every couple hours, sometimes every few minutes and its getting really annoying. As a person who uses the internet a ton I don't mind if its every once in awhile but when it happens so frequently its very annoying. My provider is Cable, I believe its either a 3mb or 5mb connection (400kb download, .25mb upload).

I hope someone has some ideas thanks in advance!

My problem is that my internet connection has a tendancy to disconnect after relatively short periods of downloading and online gaming. Usually after approx. 30 - 45 minutes, or sooner if the connection is being heavily used. It is guaranteed to drop out within minutes of heavy UPLOADING.

At this point, the problem can only be fixed by REBOOTING my machine. Reseting my router or modem, and/or renewing my IP has no effect. I've run several anti-spyware programs and nothing has been found.

My suspicion at this point rest on the Ethernet card, but I can't be sure.

Does anyone have any ideas? Also, is there any software available that will allow me to monitor my computers activity to see what happens at the moment the connection dies?

Thanks!

Answer:Internet connection dies until restart!

My guess is the card also. I have a Dlink Gigabit NIC in my Dimension 8300 that I think is doing the same thing, It happens randomly but that is the only thing I can trace it back to.

The whole problem started with Symantec constantly spamming me with this email proxy message saying that it couldn't send email to email adresses I've never even heard of. I couldn't find an answer so I finally just turned off me email scanning and the problem stoped. A couple of days past and then all of a sudden my computer stars to act up and restart randomly. I think all of the problems have passed from that but I just put it in here in just incase.

Now after I turn on my computer my internet dies partially. My internet will work anywhere from 10-40 minutes before losing the connection but my status doesn't say so. It doesn't even say limited connectivity it just acts as if everything was normal. Basically anything that I was running like an online game or AIM still works but my Internet Explorer doesn't work. I have to keep restarting my computer to get my internet to work. I didn't know if this was a software probelm so I downloaded Firefox and Firefox doesn't work either. I've also ran spybot and problem still occurs.

It loses connection while everything else is still able to be connected
because of this I figure it must be my computer that has the problem,

If anyone has any idea of what on my computer could be causing the problem
please let me know.

I have ran AVG to scan for viruses, Scanned with Malwarebytes, and use system defragment
I've tried deleting useless things on my computer to no avail.

would you post the following tests when the internet is working OK, and then repeat ALL the tests when the internet disconnects.
Make sure you also indicate on the reply which tests are for what condition.

if you are connected by wireless, please include the xirrus screen shots for both conditions - see how below.

Please post back here the make and exact model of the router and if you have a separate modem, the make and exact model of the modem.

Please make a note of the status of the lights on the modem and on the router when working normally - post that light status here.
Now when the internet disconnects make a note of the status of the lights for the modem and router here again. also note which have changed.

What firewall / security suite or anti-virus do you currently have on the PC - or you have ever had on the PC in the past - any trial ware - like Norton, Mcafee , AVG etc

Then it (Internet) stopped working, although I was connected to the wireless network. Now I've found out that changing SSID for the network will make the Internet connection work again. Got this odd problem that has been going on for the past few weeks. Internet connection slow's down to a crawl, then finally dies after about 30-60 minutes of usage. Forcing me to pull the power to the cable modem, and router. Wait a few minutes, plug them in, and it's okay for a short time. Kinda thought it was my netgear wireless router. I swap the router out with an older SMC router, still same issue. Yesterday, I go into Comcast, get a different cable modem. Got that up and running all excited. But after about 30 minutes, the problem comes back. I got two computers connected to the router issue happens with both. So I pull the nic cable going from the router to my FreeBSD box, thinking maybe a bad nic, bad cable, something funky going on there. No luck with that. Throw the cat 5 cable connected to my onboard nic, to another nic I had in a pci slot. Still nothing. Ran a virus scan, thinking maybe a virus eating up my bandwidth. Didn't find anything. I ran ad-ware a few weeks back, and that looked okay. Just curious if anyone has any other suggestions. Nothing has changed in my setup. Really don't want to have Comcast come out and test the line. Plus I'm moving in a week anyway.

Any ideas, suggestions, anything I'm missing?

Sounds like the same shit my ISP was pulling on me when I still had dial-up. Basically it was the server's IP number that for some stupid reason kept jumping around changing IP numbers (don't ask me why, to this day I still don't know why they did something like that). The only "fix" was to ask my ISP what one of their confirmed IP numbers was, and then set everything to connect to that IP number only (DHCP off and all that). But soon after I got ADSL so the problem automagically went away...

About your problem: have you tried to flush your DNS entries? Assuming you're using Winbloze:

Go to Start ► All Programs ► Acessories ► Command Prompt. From there type:

Code:
ipconfig /flushdns
Or just download and execute the file named "winxp_dnscache.zip" from SpeedGuide.net. You can also use TCP Optimizer to optimize your Internet connection. This is all I can think of. Perhaps someone more knowledgeable on this matter will come along to provide their insights...

Hey guys. I have a problem with my PC that I have never encountered before.

It seems that whenever I am using torrents, my LAN connection will randomly drop off.

This problem started right after I installed windows 7 ultimate on my machine. Right up until the day before when I was still running XP, I did not have this issue.

After I installed windows 7, the problem started. I have tried using both of the LAN ports on my Asus crosshair and have the problem no matter which port I am using, The connection randomly cuts off, locally on the machine since the router still functions fine and has internet access afterwards. The PC is unable to connect to even 192.168.1.1 after the connection fails, and the only way to restore the connection is either reboot the PC or restart the LAN driver by disabling and then re-enabling the LAN in device manager or network connections.

The chance that the connection will fail and the amount of time it takes it to fail seem directly proportional to how much bandwidth is being used.

Last night running a torrent at 50KB/s down and 300KB/s up ran for hours on end until it finished. But as soon I removed caps and tried going full speed which is anywhere from 500KB/s to 1.5MB/s both up and down, it will randomly fail in a matter of 10 - 20 minutes. Occasionally, running at such high bandwidth the connection seems to hold on for awhile. I think the longest I saw it go for at these speeds was close to an hour.

I've tried run... Read more

Hi everyone, I just bought a cheap simple printer for the wife and i already wish i hadn't got a HP. It is a photosmart c4580, I have got the software and drivers installed ok but when the printer is on the internet drops out. I am running the printer wirelessly from a d-link g604t router and need to unplug the router and turn off the printer in order to regain internet access. tried the diagnostics and it says the dns server name is wrong. contacted HP and they tell me new drivers are coming next month but i can't wait that long.... any ideas at all?????

regards KevO

Answer:Internet dies when wireless printer is turned on

Find the network configuration page for the printer. Change the dns to be 10.1.1.1. That your router's default address according to http://imagelibrary.gotalk.com.au/pd...SetupGuide.pdf

It should work then. Let us know how it goes.

It's probably a good idea to make sure the Bonjour service is not resident and active on any machine across your network. Follow this page to do that.

http://www.raymond.cc/blog/archives/...sresponderexe/

Should you require further help, please tell us the type of connection you have from your isp (cable, dsl) and how do you get internet access to your router (cable modem?, dsl modem?, lan cable connected to wall in apartment?) I would have you change the dns address of your g604t to the default address of this cable or dsl modem.

One step at a time. Either I or someone else will be able to help you fix this.

Hello, I am on a wireless internet. I had a problem with the internet, so I bought a new router/gateway adapter. No luck. I then tried moving the computer a couple feet. It worked! I could play online games fine, and my connection was 10/10.
Sadly, after an hour, the internet slowly died, and now when I try to play an online game, it crashes, and I must restart the internet.
Help? Tips?
EDIT: Right now it's 10/10 connectivity. When I try to play an online game though, it will die. Also, when I watch online videos, it will get slower. Basically when I am doing something online besides looking at websites, it will die down a bit.

Answer:Internet dies when playing an online game.

Please supply the following info, exact make and models of the equipment please.

What country are you located in.
Name of your ISP (Internet Service Provider).
What is the expected Upstream/Downstream speed for your ISP Connection?
Make and exact model of the broadband modem.
Make and exact model and hardware version of the router (if a separate unit).
Model numbers can usually be obtained from the label on the device.
Connection type, wired or wireless.
If wireless, encryption used, (none, WEP, WPA, or WPA2)
Make and model of your computer.
Version and patch level of Windows on all affected machines, i.e. XP-Home (or XP-Pro), SP1-SP2, Vista, etc.
The Internet Browser in use, IE, Firefox, Opera, etc.

Please give an exact description of your problem symptoms, including the exact text of any error messages.

If you're using a wireless connection, have you tried a direct connection with a cable to see if that changes the symptoms? Have you disabled all encryption on the router to see if you can connect that way? Have you connected directly to the broadband modem to see if this is a router or modem/ISP issue?

If there are other computers on the same network, are they experiencing the same issue, or do they function normally?

On any affected computer, I'd also like to see this:

I have Vista Ultimate been using it for about the last year never had any serious issues with anything including my internet connection.

Now tonight suddenly my internet goes down about every 30 minutes out of no where doesn't matter what I'm doing or even if the computer is just sitting idle. I have to unplug the modem and replug it in to get it working again. I'm connecting directly from Motorola Surf Board 5100 modem to the PC with Ethernet connection. no other pcs or game consoles in the house on this connection. Can anyone shed any light on what's going on or what I need to do to start figuring out what the problem is.

It's definitely not my isp all the lights that are suppose to be lit on the modem are staying on like they should.

Thanks for any help

Hi,

I just installed SP1 for Vista, and SP1 + Vista fix for Visual Studio + SP2 for SQL Server 2005. After the update I noticed that the 6To4 Adapter had the yellow exclamation mark (!). So I deleted in the hope that Device Manager finds it again and I can reinstall, but now it is not being found. Afterwards I started getting Internet disconnections.

After some time online, and without any exact timing, totally random, the connection kind of dies. Only network traffic travelling on HTTP seems to die. I remain connected on IRC, MSN, Skype and ICQ. Browser action just dies. I tried different browsers, Firefox, Chrome, IE to no avail. I could not start any connection.

It seems the DNS is lost. However other computers connected to the same router and with the same wifi router remain connected so its definately something which regards the Lenovo laptop.

Also this is the result of running "route print" now that the connection is dead (As I wrote this post the connection died. Had to restart and just submitted it after restart)

I recently upgraded from a wired router to a WRT160Nv2. I have 2 wired computers, and one wireless. The only things I set up on the router are regular passwords for everything, updated my firmware, did a MAC address clone for my primary computer, disabled firewall and filters, and forwarded a port. My MTU is set to 1365: the only reason I mention it is because I was told to set it to that number. I also installed the software linksys easylink advisor that came with it on all computers. It default runs on startup.

I use firefox, and xp on all three computers. I am having no problems on my wireless laptop connection. I am having no recognizable problems on my secondary computer that is wired. My primary computer is having all the issues. I have done antivirus and spyware scans and updated everything I could, but I know the problem is caused from the new router because they happened immediately after I got it.

Ok, so when im browsing websites, quite often I will lose connection. I don't get a message saying I have lost connection, but it does not work. I try to pull up a new firefox and it opens and cannot connect. IE wont work either. If I try to ping google.com, nothing happens while im having trouble with it. If I close my browsers and wait like 20 seconds, usually I have internet again and can ping google.com or whatever with no issues. If I was viewing a video on youtube, and clicked a new link, and it decided to break, it would load everything and the the video wou... Read more

Hello all,

Been having this problem for years but have been unable to solve it.

My current setup for internet access is involves one way satellite
(actually a parabolic dish pointed at a ground station) with a modem
for the upstream. This is on a Windows XP Pro PC with Wingate for
sharing the connection with three other computers. I use a combination
of the ENS/NAT and Winsock Redirector Service for sharing the
connection. This works fine most of the time. But every so often (can
be within minutes or can be hours) the connection dies. It's still
connected but I'm unable to send out data (not so sure about receive).
Reconnecting doesn't help only a restart.

I'm pretty sure it doesn't have anything to do with my ISP directly.
Despite my complex set up, I should mention that if I disable (turn
off) Wingate this still happens, although less frequently (I think
it's less frequent). In fact, I'm pretty sure during one install, my
connection did the same thing before I installed Wingate (possibly
before I installed the satelite drivers/software but not so sure about
that). Also, my ISP has a special account which I can use for a modem
only connection and the connection still breaks if I use this. I've
tried an external Diamond SupraExpress 56k and an internal ISA Diamond
SupraExpress 56k both show the same problem. Changing modems wh... Read more

title pretty much sums up my problem but'll recap what I believe led to the problem, last night I randomly decided that I would check to see if my computer needed any updates. So I went to Microsoft Updates and did a custom scan, when scan finished there were a two Nvidia updates one said bus emulator and other network controller, not being a tech swavy guy I said "sure download please". So windows update did its thing but as soon as it finished downloading and started installing my AVG anti-virus pop'd up requesting to move some files to "the vault", when that happened windows finished installing and asked my computer to restart, after it restarted i tried to go on AIM and Ventrilo (aka Vent), here's i knew something was wrong, I couldn't sign in to AIM all it said was "waiting for Network..." and Vent just simply said "unknown last ip address" I went to command prompt > ipconfig where it said connection-specific dns suffix it was blank, for ip address it still showed my ip same for subnet mask there was still some numbers but, for default gateway it was blank, thinking it must had something to do with the drivers window installed I did a system restore to two days ago, after it rebooted I thought I fixed it, I was able to sign on AIM as well as Vent even able to use google chrome and watch a friend stream on live on twitch tv, so calling it a night I shut down my PC and when to sleep, now to the title, woke up t... Hi, I'm having a problem with my internet connection on my wireless laptop.

My laptop frequently says "cannot display the web page" as if i wasnt connected to the internet when i try to browes the internet. My laptops network monitor says it is connected, and i can share files with my other desktop so i am connected... the internet just doesn't work. I used the troubleshooter and the "check your connection" function on the web page (after it says "cannot display the web page" there is an option to "check for problems") and the application says that my internet connection is 100%..... so the computer thinks it is fully connected and functioning properly but i can't browse the internet....

I've been fixing the problem by logging out and logging back in... it works about 75% of the time... other times i have to wait about 5 minutes before it will work...

I'm thinking it is a problem with my router or the desktop interfering because my laptop cant find any problems of it's own. I'm not having this problem at all with my desktop and I was recently at a hotel and had no such problem with the hotel wifi....

This problem is getting very frustrating and becoming a huge hastle! Please help! Post if you need more info to help me.

I lose my internet connection only several minutes after starting up.
Windows XP pro SP2, Pentium 4 2,8GHz, ASUS P4C800-E De Luxe MoBo, 1GB RAM.
It works fine right after boot-up on Mozilla firefox. Shortly thereafter Firefox starts giving me timed-out messages and no page would load. Same happens with other browser programs. Bit Comet works uninterruptedly. Iam on a network and I can access other machines or print on a remote printer. Only internet stops working after a few minutes (it only works right after a fresh start-up)
Somebody please help, I really need Internet on this machine, I hope I don't have to do a clean XP install, too much work, too many apps. I'm communicating this from a Mac OSX computer.

I have done some things other threads suggested:
"Routing and Remote Access" service is disabled. I did the arp cache clearing using the

Hey.

I have recently gotten a very weird problem that I can not get rid off.

When I start the computer cold I can access homepages thru internet explorer and firefox, (both are set to find internet settings automatic), but after a short period of time (can be all from a minute to 10-15 minutes) my internet browsers "dies". No 404 error or Timeouts, no loading of the page either. The browsers loading icon, the waving flag in IE and rotating dots in Firefox, just flashes and then return to its static position.

When I have proper internet connection, I have a UPnP Gateway that "works" but when my internet connection has "died", it says under properties that it "does not work" (sorry guys that I can give word-for-word since I am on a japanese OS).
Even when the internet connection does not work, I can PING any working site with success and even TRACERT.

First I thought that the ADSL Modem might be broken so I called my ISP and got a new one. Same problem.

My Specs are;
Dell Dimension 8200
Core 2 Duo E6300
1GB RAM
XP Media Center 2005 (Jap)
NOD 32

No Firewall
No Router, the Computer is connected directly to the ADSL Modem

Due To the ISP settings, the computer is set to Automatically receive internet settings, always this;
Computer IP: 192.168.0.2
DNS : 192.168.0.1
Subnet: 255.255.255.0
Gateway: 192.168.0.1

Thank you very much!

I would like to say that to suspect my cousin is a bad thing. But the guy knows about computers and networking more than I do. So I come to you guys for help. Ever since Thursday of last week, my cousin came over to this computer and basically hooked it up on the workgroup he had just made. I was alright with it. There are 2 other computers in this house, his, this one and his brother's.

Well. Friday all of a sudden, the internet on this computer died. And I couldn't re-establish a connection. The thing is. The computer was apparently still connected to the LAN. Only the connection to the internet died.

Come saturday we stayed over at his sister's house due to a hurricane, I was using her laptop. He saw me on the internet, said he was going to go to the bathroom and all of a sudden, once again the internet died. Same problem as here.

We returned Sunday evening. And yesterday I hooked up this computer directly to the modem for instant internet access. Later on that evening he hooked it up back to the router. For over 5 hours there was internet on this computer, when I wasn't using it. Instead his sister was. All of a sudden I am able to use the computer while he was away, everything was fine. It didn't die, nothing happened. When the guy got home he saw me on the computer. And sure enough moments later the internet died.

I'm trying to not think much of it. That perhaps it's a networking problem.. but the other two computers never lose... Read more

Answer:Solved: Internet connection on only this computer dies at random

sounds suspicious to me...

when you lose connection try to reestablish connection: START > Control Panel > Network Connections (double click)

you should see a new window open, look for the "connection" that is "connected" (you may see more than 1, but only 1 should NOT BE disabled).

first insure that you are getting dynamic IP from router.
Right click on the "connected" LAN > PROPERTIES (click)
new window should appear (scroll down to bottom, click ONCE on (TCP/IP) to highlight it. then click PROPERTIES button. In the General tab, make sure "Obtain an IP address automatically" is selected and "Obtain DNS server address automatically" is also selected. Click OK, then OK again to close window.

Now we try to re-obtain new lease; This time double-click on the "connected" LAN, from the window that appears, click Support TAB, then click REPAIR button. it shouuld try to re-establish a connection.

If he bumps u off again, just REPAIR it again. if this keeps happening then you know for sure that he is bumping u off =8||

Hi guys I have a weird issue here which seems to make little sense. We have a small network interconnected by a switch. However all of a sudden our internet seems to be dying out in a weird way. The internet would die out after 10 minutes of use although we can browse teh network. We then turn the switch off and then on and its back to normal - but then after another 10 minutes its dies out again and we literally have someone turning the switch on and off every 10 15 minutes here

The switches lights are bleeping on and off as though nothing has happened :\ however internet just goes out. The lights on my modem router are blinking so there doesn't seem to be a problem with that - even so it seems to be confined to the switch as when I turn off and turn on the switch I get 10 minutes of internet doesnt matter if I plug in the routers cable in another port or so its the same.

What is the problem here I really need help on this. Please guys!

It sounds like you have spyware/malware. Download ad-aware and scan, And see if it detects anything. If not then it is probably a SOCKS problem.

I have a Windows 2000 Pro system that has a quirky thing going on with it. I have had to use Clam AV (AVG won't run on this) to scan for viruses, and it did find a lot of worms though I'm not completely confidant it was able to remove everything.

The computer can access the Internet with no problems if you boot into Safe Mode With Networking, but under a normal boot, it will lose connectivity to the Internet very shortly after logging it. I tested this using "ping google.com -t" to do an endless ping and the connection would go from replies with no problem to "Host not resolved" (I think that's what it says). This seems to be related to something with DNS, I think. Because I can connect the PC to another laptop via a crossover cable, assign static IP's to each, and they will ping each other. But once the connection is cut off, it won't ping the router or anything on the Internet.

I downloaded Hijack This via safe mode, restarted, and ran two scans. The first scan was done while the Internet connection was still working and google's pings were coming back okay.

The second scan was done about a minute later, very shortly after internet connectivity was acting foul. I've attached both log files to this post, so hopefully someone might be able to tell me what to try to get this working right.

Thanks!

Hi all,
Well I described in details in the above fields what exactly happened and what I tried to do.

Right now I am on this pc, using MS edge, and I have internet and all seems fine. But all is not fine - clearly. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling chrome by the way. I reset browser settings several times and I have no extensions other than google's own (google docs, google sheets etc)
So I am wondering, how to fix this.
If I scan, every program says there is nothing on my pc. But If I use chrome, things just die (after quite some time). I'm considering just living w/o chrome but I mean - how can this not be fixable

Sorry for the long texts - I really searched this forum and tried all I could find. But I just can't solve this on my own it seems. Help is very appreciated.

Hello,
Fix with Farbar Recovery Scan Tool

This fix was created for this user for use on that particular machine.
Running it on another one may cause damage and render the system unstable.
Download attached fixlist.txt file and save it to the Desktop:

Both files, FRST and fixlist.txt have to be in the same location or the fix will not work!
Right-click on icon and select Run as Administrator to start the tool.
(XP users click run after receipt of Windows Security Warning - Open File).
Press the Fix button just once and wait.
If for some reason the tool needs a restart, please make sure you let the system restart normally. After that let the tool complete its run.
When finishes FRST will generate a log on the Desktop, called Fixlog.txt.

Please attach it to your reply.

Hi,

when I download large files (>a few GB) without throttling my download speed to about 300kB/s my internet connection dies for a few minutes. At regular downloadspeed (~1.6 MB/s) it dies at around 500MB, at slower speeds it seems to get a bit further before halting. (600kB/s gets me to around 750MB, 300kB/s finished the last download successfully, file was ~3GB)

I remain connected to the router (packets received/sent still going strong) but I can't access the internet and if I use the windows troubleshooter it tells me IP configuration was invalid or default gateway unavailable.

I googled the problem and the only tips I found were "throttle your download speed" (works, but that's not a good solution) and "disable 'allow other network users to disable connection'" which did nothing.

I get the same problem on my laptop, but when the internet on my PC is crashed I can still access the web from my laptop and vice versa.

Thanks in advance for you help!

Answer:Internet dies for a few minutes when downloading large files quickly

My bet goes to router

Is your modem and router separate devices? Would your connection work if you plug the modem to computer directly?

I guess some routers have a passthrough configuration, if above is not feasible.

If all above fail try factory reset on the router. Make sure you have all the configuration details noted down, you will need them after the reset.

I have 2 routers set up, my internet randomly randomly loses/regains connection.

First router is connected to modem, that's an Actiontec router that's wireless. Second router is a D-link DI 624 wireless router. All the computers are connected "Wired", only wireless devices are the laptop(which is connected wireless to Router 1), and Wii(which is connected wireless to Router 2). Router 2 is a brand new router btw, and I upgraded the firmware on it.

So here's how my connection is setup: Internet > Modem > Router 1 > Router 2 > This computer. If I simply directly connect this computer to Router 1(instead of connecting it to Router 2), the disconnections doesn't happen.

Now at first I had only one router. I installed a second router by simply shutting off comp, plugging a network cable from router 1 to router 2, then simply plugging an additional cable from router 2 to my computer.

I am not sure if I set up 2 routers correctly but all I know is that it works fine "sometimes", the wireless connection(from the second router) always seems to work but the wired connection from Router 2 to this comp.
The intervals varies, some days it may be 3 minutes between each disconnection and reconnection(which isn't too annoying), some days it may be 15 seconds(extremely annoying). Sometimes the disconnections do not happen at all.

Here's what I've tried:
1. I've tried rebooting the router, doesn't fix problem.

Answer:Have 2 routers set up, my internet randomly randomly loses/regains connection

Some things you can try here.
Change the channel on the router, I like channels 1, 6, and 11 in the US.
Update the firmware to the latest version available on the manufacturer's site.
Reset the router to factory defaults and reconfigure.

Many times these measures will resolve a lot of intermittent issues.

For multiple routers, I also suggest this configuration.

Connecting two (or more) SOHO broadband routers together.

Note: The "primary" router can be an actual router, a software gateway like Microsoft Internet Connection Sharing, or a server connection that has the capability to supply more than one IP address using DHCP server capability. No changes are made to the primary "router" configuration.

Configure the IP address of the secondary router(s) to be in the same subnet as the primary router, but out of the range of the DHCP server in the primary router. For instance DHCP server addresses 192.168.0.2 through 192.168.0.100, I'd assign the secondary router 192.168.0.254 as it's IP address, 192.168.0.253 for another router, etc.

Note: Do this first, as you will have to reboot the computer to connect to the router again for the remaining changes.

Disable the DHCP server in the secondary router.

Setup the wireless section just the way you would if it was the primary router, channels, encryption, etc.

Connect from the primary router's LAN port to one of the LAN ports on the secondary router. If there is no uplink port and nei... Read more

Having this problem since I've gotten the laptop. If I have too many things going on, first thing that happens is that any sound I have gets distorted.. like it slows down because it can't process it? Then, the next thing that happens is my firewall starts to have problems, Kerio Personal Firewall (says Cannot connect to service). Next,my internet dies. If I try to press Ctrl+Alt+Del, task manager does not initialize (it says failed to initialize, error code 0x00000017).

I've done a bit of research and there's multiple reasons.. but the main one it seems is problem with memory settings. I've looked at my VM storag settings and whatnot and they look fine. When Task manager is open before internet cuts off, I still have at lseast 50% free for all memory types.

Does anyone know what a possible solution may be? I'm relatively tech savvy, I'd rather not return to Dell to fix it, unless it is a NIC defect.
