my local cable-wala provide me a static ip (lan ip) which i will connect to my lappy rj45 and then i will get to open a webpage to login and then i click on 'connect internet', a popup window will open and hav to remain open till i disconnect. so its a weblogin..

now i hav wifi router which has wan, lan and all those things.. access my router with

i want to connec to my wifi router from my lg p500 ph, so dat i can connect to net.

the prob is with the static ip.. my iso given me..
ip = 172.16.x.x
subnet = 255.x.x.128
gateway = 172.16.x.1
dns = 172.16.x.1

ur connected devise must hav this ip otherwise it wont login. the isp weblogin page ip is 192.168.x.x

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello one and all,
I am sincerely hoping someone can assist with my little networking problem as i'm tearing my hair out now..

Here at work we have a Vigor Modem/Router hosting our connection to the world. It was originally on DHCP & the 4 computers & 2 printers found their own IP addresses without problem.

We added a Linksys router via ethernet (to a lan port not the wan) in another area of the yard. This was fine also on DHCP and connecting wirelessly from a laptop or mobile phone was a doddle.

Then our oh so wonderful IT geek decided to put the Vigor on a Static IP along with all the computers connected to it. This has some how cut off the wifi capability of the Linksys router now.

It is basically acting as a hub for two laptops and nothing else.

In simplistic terms with some detail what settings need changing on the Linksys if any?

The Vigors internal IP is
Linksys is
both on subnet

I have been advised to set the Linksys to a static IP on the Internet Connection option but what set of figures do i need for that??

Fingers crossed...

I have been trying for some time to accomplish the title result. I'm not techie enough to do it.

What I want is to be able to use a Tablet to read in the rear of my home (which is out of range for incoming wifi signal.)

If I can set up the computer to do this, I will cable connect to a router in that area.
I have two computers and could use either.

1.a PC running XP (should update to windows 8.1, but have never bothered to do that, since XP works just fine. (I had this computer sharing to the router, when I had DSL internet connection, using Windows wizard to set it up) Couldn't get it to work when I switched to WIFI internet access) I could switch to win 7 or 8.1 if that would help.

2. a Lap Top running WIN 8.1,

Any help is appreciated.

Maybe, but some information could help more than others. What/who says not "a high enough security setting"? What OS are you using? Trying to bridge the connections or use ICS?

I recently purchased a Lenovo P500 with Windows 8. The computer seems to work great, and I don't seem to be having any functionality issues. However, there is a quiet sound emitting from (as far as I can tell) the right side of the laptop. The sound is hard to describe, but it sounds something like static or brief scratching. The sound is intermittent and not constant, and seems to be, though not always, associated with screen activity (like moving the mouse or clicking on a program). The sound is only noticeable in a quiet environment, or when I put my ear very close to the laptop. The sound is quiet enough that it's not really distracting or annoying. I just wonder whether it signifies a serious problem with the laptop. Here is a recording of the sound (which starts approximately 10 seconds into the recording). Played through the speakers, it sounds much, much louder than what I hear in real life. Edit:  I guess I should also note that the sound occurs both when my speakers are muted and un-muted.

Just wanted to update and say that, after I haven't moved the cursor and the after the computer has been dormant for a few minutes, the sound sometimes stops. Anyone?

Ok first off I'd like to say how cheesed off we are. With that said you can understand that this won't exactly be a happy thread for us at home.

Okay well we've basically had a house phone line here for the past 20 years or so without any problems. We got high speed dsl internet for the first time 3 years ago from Netscape. The modem has worked fine all along, and as you know the modem gets its signal from our house phone line.

Now I don't know if this has anything to do with it but about 7 days ago I was eating lunch when I noticed a couple of guys from some unmarked van that only had a phone number on it with no logo [the logo seemed to be old and faded] doing some work for our neighbor taking taking down most of the lines that run from the street to his house. I don't know what those lines were for but they were dangling close to the floor, and they also seemed to take down the lines that run to our house as well. We're separated from our neighbor by a small alleyway, and all the lines meet in between on the sides of our houses. I was checking the mail that day and had something cooking on the stove and ran back to get my food and eat. I was going to come back out after eating and ask them what they were doing, but by the time I came back out they were gone. I don't know what they were here for but they did touch a lot of stuff out there. Thank goodness I have a photo graphic memory because I remember the phone number from their van... Read more

My Lenovo a 516 connects to the virtual hotspot (my pc), but it doesn't actually receive any data. I can't browse or download.

I have a WIFI dongle (wireless usb nano adapter) connected to my pc, which i think works fine. The problem is with pc's settings because i tried this with 2 phones and outcome was the same.

I do not have much knowledge about how these things work and might have messed up some settings (ip, dns mask- all those things they as u to change,, on youtube).

Kindly help me rectify this..

PS: When i connected the phone after installing the dongle very first time it worked just fine, i was able to browse and download. Now. Then the wifi fan symbol in my phone showd 2 arrows, both sending and receiving data. Now when i open the browser and try entering any site it shows only upward arrow and thats it.

I have a dilemma.

I have a static IP address set up on my router with the information provided by the ISP. We use a PDC running WS2k3 that acts as a DHCP server for the majority of our workstations. However, we have 3 machines that also have static IPs that are assigned also by our ISP connected to the router. We can see the 3 computers on the router but they are not able to access the internet. Network access is fine, but we cannot get them to access the internet. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

what's the best way to access my work computer D: drive (work files are all stored on it) from home? i need to be able to read and write securely and also allow my boss and co-worker to connect to it when they go home too, just got static ip today, but want to keep everything else behind the firewall

Answer:Safest way to access share folder on static ip?

I would either setup a VPN or FTP on your machine. If it's XP pro you can do a VPN server. I imagine though, it's limited to 1 connection, but not sure as I have not set it up. I have setup a 2k3 VPN though, and it would work nicely to connect up a shared drive for you 3. An FTP would be the easiest as you could just install IIS on your machine (or a 3rd party FTP server) and point the share to the D: on your machine.

A static IP isn't necessary, but does help, thanks to services like dyndns. At least you know it won't be changing though

What OS is on your machine?
is your machine behind the router?
what kind of connection to the Internet do you have?
size of files being accessed?

So may try changing the power plan to high performance when in battery mode. Of course this will cause a faster drain in your battery.

I want to use a separate wifi router with my Comcast cable modem that has a built-in wireless router. I want to improve speed and also use a better firewall.

Am I correct that if I put the Comcast cable modem into bridge mode, I can still address it via it's IP address, which for me is

So should I set up the separate wireless router as Will this device also get an external IP address on the Comcast WAN?

I work for a dance studio. We have a cable modem with a built-in 4 port switch. (not wireless)

3 of the ethernet ports are currently in use... 2 desktop computers and a DVR security camera system.

The DVR system requires a static IP address for remote monitoring. We have been assigned 5 static IP addresses... and 3 of those are being used for the DVR and the 2 computers.

Now we want to add wireless. I tried connecting a wireless router to the existing modem/router using the available ethernet port.... but I couldn't get it to work. I was thinking it was because of the static IP addresses. I don't know how to configure an additional router if static IP addresses are involved (but I've done router-to-router connections without static IPs with no problems)

Is it possible to add a wireless router or access point to our existing setup? Are our static IPs causing my dilemma?

Charter Business (our ISP) is happy to let us pay an additional $25 a month to replace our modem/router with a wireless version. But the dance studio owner thinks it's a better idea to just buy a wireless router once, and connect it to what we've got already. I agree.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Answer:Add a wireless router to an existing modem/router... with static IP addresses

Do your static IPs come by DHCP or do you have to configure them manually? Were the desktops/dvr configured manually. If it was automatic then just plugging in a wireless router in the the available port should work. Otherwise you would have to log into the routers setting page and change its WAN side address

Hey all.

I have foxfi and pdanet for my own personal use. Not too long ago they added a feature called wifi share that basically takes advantage of windows ability to turn your notebook into a wifi hotspot.
The main use case for this is using wired tethering from a mobile phone with unlimited data, and then using the notebooks ability to wifi share to get around the limitations of wifi tethering data caps through the mobile phone sans needing to pay more for the privilege.

I had a sandy bridge notebook from late 2011 where I could never get the feature to work right, got a newer and cheaper amd notebook to tide me over now when that one broke, and the feature works perfectly on this notebook. Incidentally, even though this is an amd notebook, the wifi adapter used inside is one of the newer intel wifi cards (7265).
Fast forward to today. I have a relative that has verizon but no home based internet for the moment. They had two lines and a mobile hotspot with capped data for just over 180, I had them cancel the hotspot and switch to unlimited. My intention was to hook one of their phones to their notebook directly and use foxfi/pdanet to provide internet, and then use the wifi share feature to create a network to hook up things like their smart tv.

Problem. It creates a network, but nothing can connect. Tried other smartphones, tried other tvs, it just stalls out with the connection.
I did the cmd prompt to check if there was support for a virtual network, there w... Read more

Sometimes it will connect to the Internet fine but then 10 minutes later it disconnects or says no Internet available. Lately it won't pull up any wifi networks close by at all in the menu. I've had to use an ethernet cable with it just to have reliable Internet. The wifi and router are not the problem because everyone else in my house can use it fine. It's just my laptop. Another device, not more than 2 feet away and equal distance to the router, has full signal, yet my Lenovo P500 ideapad barely has two bars.   I know poor wifi signal is known issue for other models and was wondering if this model was also a victim of this issue. I am becoming very upset due to lost connection, resulting in lost work, while everyone else has full signal.  Thanks!Cecilia

I am getting really frustrated. My DSL internet works beautifully "all the time". I get intermittent static on my phone. I have a DSL filter. I have replaced the phone, the duplex, the DSL filter, the phone cable to my phone, the phone cable to the DSL modem.

The static sometimes is unbearable to try to talk to someone over. Of course when I talk to SBC Ameritech, there is no noise. BUT they have heard of the problems is after they come out and touch something outside; anything; they call it "opening it up"....then for a few days everything is fine.

They tell me they have replaced everything outside from the central office to here, including our network interface box (NIB). If I hook up a phone directly to the NIB, I still get the noise. This noise is above and beyond the DSL white noise you get when you don't use the filter. This pretty much rules out that it is a problem inside the building but I have grasped at straws to get this fixed.

I have tried to get my ISP (not SBC Ameritech, although they now offer DSL also, but I am in a contract until November with my current ISP) to switch me to different equipment in the central office, but I do not believe they have tried that.

I have read that a similar thing could be caused by a inferior DSL filter, but then why would I get the noise before the filter too?

The phone crackling happens whether or not I am on the Internet.

Any ideas of what to try next? Has anyone had this problem?
&... Read more

Answer:Static on DSL Phone Line

Bad filter is a possibility and you will have the noise before the filter, hence, why you need a filter. Have you tried your filter at the NIB(MPO)? That would rule out your interior wiring. If you still hear the static at the NIB, have SBC come out for phone repair. Even if you have an ISP, it's using SBC's phone lines and they still (most likely) send you a phone bill. If the tech says no trouble found, show him what you hear at the NIB, they can't dispute it. I actually had to borrow a friends butt-set at one time before SBC would fix the lines here.

One more thing, you are using filters on all of your phones in your house right? You should have a filter on every phone that's connected to that line. The only line that doesn't need a filter is the one going into your dsl router itself.

I recently bought dlink D2750U WIFI ADSL modem/router, for my ADSL internet connection.

But I have now changed my ISP, who provide internet via cable(not telephone line). The ISP guy provides a cable modem(old modem) along with it.

I have connected my PC this way:
Cable modem -> Router -> PC through RJ45. I am able to access internet from my PC, but I am not able to get wifi working on the router. And I am logging onto internet through a dial up connection.
1) Please help in configuring the router to get wifi working.
2) Also, my default gateway seems to be either or blank. So, I am not able to login to the modem unless I remove the modem connection. Please let me know if I am doing anything wrong here.

Here are a few more details:
Output of ipconfig:

Answer:Using dlink D2750U Wifi Modem/Router As a Wifi Router

Hey Narain. The D-Link unit you have appears to be a combo unit (modem and wireless router) since it connects straight to the RJ-11 phone line. This unit won't work with an ISP that provides service by way of coax cable. The D-Link will work if you want to use DSL, but you need a cable service compatible modem or combo modem/router if you use cable service.

I have all the filters installed on the phone lines.

Recently i noticed that my phone was receiving a lot of static. Also around the same time i noticed that my wi-fi network kept crashing. All the green lights would turn red and i would have to wait a while before i was able to connect to the internet.

I have a laptop so i do everything over wi-fi and this is starting to bug.

I would call my internet company's tech support but they are more clueless than I am.

Has this happened to anyone else or anyone know how i can fix this?

Answer:Static on phone line and wi-fi crashing

Sounds like you are using a 2.4 Ghz cordless phone and 2.4Ghz
wireless network and they are interfering with each other.
In the network connection properties and in router setup
you can change channels.
Might want to set the network to channel 2 and the phone
to channel 11.
Give both systems a larger frequency spread apart.
Should help clear up the interference.

i just had dropped it in water but did everything online said to do and now their is no water in it

Answer:When I put my battery in my phone static starts happening but quickly goes, should I turn it on?

Online guides, including the advice that our users will be providing in this forum, are indeed very useful, but if those/these guides do not bring the desired result the user must seriously consider taking the device (that has been dropped in water) to a service center for the correct and professional-grade repairs it needs.
However, you may want to share with us what you have tried based on what you have seen "online" - perhaps our users can add to the list of solutions/attempts.
Did you mean that you wanted to create a backup for your laptop before updating to Windows 10?
Creating a backup is always a smart decision and is recommended, but it is not necessary before updating to Windows 10 IF you would be upgrading through your reservation and through Windows Update - in this case you won't lose any of your personal files. But if you would be installing from a downloaded .ISO file which would most likely be a clean installation, you definitely should create a backup of all your files first since a clean installation will erase all your personal files from your laptop.
Should you wish to indeed provide further details or ask further questions, you're welcome to create a Windows Central account and then respond to this thread.

I have this internet connection connected to my pc, i have another NIC installed for routing this internet to other computers. I have TP-LINK Wireless router and all I want to do is connect the internet to my PC first then connect router to my PC via another NIC so that the router can route that internet!
Any help is highly appreciated; i have been trying hard but really end up in dead-end everytime
I connected my router's WAN port via 2nd NIC and set the router to static mode (don't know what i have to do here)

My neighbor gave me password to hisinternet wifi how do I build a cell phone antenna that W'll help mee pick up his signal from his router.I have to walk out on driveway to connect can't connect from inside my house

Answer:cell phone antenna WiFi extender for wifi

The only effective way of achieving what you want is for your neighbour to install a range extender or repeater as trying to boost a signal at your end, although in theory it can be done, is not really practical.
You could try installing an extender in your house in the hope that it will pick up the signal better than your phone but you are trying to access an already weak signal, therefore its better to boost the signal at source.
Obviously boosting the signal of you neighbours Wi-Fi network will involve him in installing an extender near to a wall or window facing your property then it depends on how far you are away from your neighbour and whether he will be happy to do this.
Some information here.
There is of course no guarantee that this will work as there are many factors involved.

I have a couple routers to work with and would like to dedicate one to a static DNS address. One is a Netgear WNDR4300 flashed with DD-WRT. The other is a Cisco 4200V2 which cannot be flashed with DD-WRT. What I would like do is set up a static DNS on one or the other and be able to dedicate various streaming devices (ie Roku, WD TV Live, XBOX, PS3) to a static DNS.
Before I get started with this, is it possible to set up the routers this way? My PS3 is currently setup internally this way, but I would prefer to run these devices via the router. Would appreciate some help with this question.
Option 2 is to put OPNVPN on the DD-WRT router, but this means all communication goes through VPN and this will slow down speeds for sure.

Is it possible to use a manually configured IP address and still recieve internet from the ROuter ?

Using a router, whenever I choose an IP address manually, the internet becomes unavailable. Is there a specific IP address needed in order for this to work?

Thanks for any info.

Answer:Static IP with router ?

Where are you choosing this IP address? In the network config of your machine?

It is certainly possible, and to me, even preferable, to use static IP addresses for the machines on the LAN connected to the router. It makes communication between machines and special configurations of the router for a specific machine easier than doing it by Mac address.

You need simply assign the IP address in the connection's properties to a static address instead of an automatically assigned one. And then configure the router for that addresses specific ports and protocols.

i'm ignorant when it comes to networking, so bear with me...

i have a pc running windows xp connected to a westell 327w dsl transceiver/router

the router was using dhcp and i wanted a static ip for my pc, something i could easily remember and browse to over the network

so i figured out how to set a static ip for my machine within windows

looking at the router's administration page, i could see that my machine was recognized as having a static ip at the address i had specified within windows

the problem is nothing can connect to the web, so my question is what else do i need to do here,? perhaps something within the router? i am at a complete loss as to what to do next

thanks for you time and help, it is much appreciated

Hi I have got an android box and try to set it up on caravan site WiFi however signal is not strong enough so I have purchased an extender and Ethernet cable but I cannot circumvent the sites router which is located elsewhere. How can I set this up please?

Answer:WiFi on static caravan site

Suggest you speak to the site owner. You will need access to the router if you wish to use ethernet. Not sure what you mean by Android Box. Do you want top download streaming movies etc. If so you may cause the site owner's data allowance to be exceeded.

Here is a little back-story on my problem. I downloaded and installed XBConnect. In order to make my setup work (Xbox hard connected to my laptop, laptop connected to wifi), I tried to set up ICS. I don't know if I set it up correctly, if at all, because the box that should be checked off in the 'network connections' screen is always unchecked. Things started to get screwy, but after some tinkering with IP addresses and the router things started to work. Now my laptop has a static LAN IP of, can get on the internet, and can see the xbox on the crossover-wired LAN.

Even though my setup works, there has been a degradation in the quality and strength of my wifi connection. I used to constantly be connected at 3-4 bars with speeds of 30-40 mb/s, but now my connection is an erratic 2-3 bars with speeds topping out at 18 mb/s. I suppose it doesn't make any difference when searching the internet, but is it normal to experience this loss of wifi when setting static IPs or ICS? Could this be a result of two DHCP servers interfering with each other (router and ICS)? One of the things I tried was to reorder the DNS addresses I manually configured, but it did not change anything.

All in all, XBConnect may be more trouble than its worth for me, so I was wondering how to disable ICS on XP. I tried to google this info, but couldn't find anything that would help me because the check-box in 'network connections' was already empty. When I right-... Read more

Hey guys,
Is there a way to save different IP Addresses/sub nets/gateways for different wireless networks, without having to manually enter them in every time? I connect to several networks (mainly 1 at home and 1 at work) that have static addressing. I would like to be able to somehow save the IP address/sub net/gateway so that every time I connect to the "Home" network it would always use the correct static addressing, and do the same for the "Work" network so that it would automaticlly switch to a different saved addressing for it. It would also be nice if it could default to DHCP if I don't have saved addressing for even a different wireless network (this would be nice when I connect to hotspots on the move).

Is this possible in Win7 or do I have to download a profiler of some sort?

Answer:Save static addressing for WiFi networks?

You can try the Network and Sharing center then on the left choose "manage wireless connections". All of your previous connections will be listed there.

Hi all,

I need some help setting up a router behind a switch that is connected threw a static ip address with Time Warner Cable as my ISP.

The network layout is as follows:

Cable modem -switch(Netgear) -router(Belkin)

I have manually inserted the static ip address, subnet, default gateway along with the two DNS servers into the Belkins router interface. The router is able to get on the internet right when I restart it but after about 20 to 30 seconds the router goes down and says "Not Connected". I have set firewall settings set to disabled and still no luck with the internet connection staying up.

I have set the router up so that it can be remotely managed @ and I am again only allowed to logon to the router periodically.

Another thing I have noticed but am unsure of whether this actually affects the network is that the subnet assigned to that ip address is while the subnet on the router is Does this cause the router from not always staying connected online?

So the question is, why does the router periodically lose internet connection and how can I resolve this issue?

Thank you to anybody that has any advice or comments.

I recently obtained a static IP from my ISP (Hughes) because i now have to use a VPN network and it would not work otherwise. I previously had a Belkin wireless router connected so my wife could use her laptop around the house. The tech support at the ISP could not get the system work without specifying the static IP in my XP network settings so I had to disconnect the router. I know I should be able to set up the IP on the router to allow us both to use the connection, however, if I connect the router to access the online setup, i get no internet (because the ISP wants the static IP dialed in). thanks in advance for all the assistance.

Answer:Trying to set up a static and dynamic ip through the same router

You can do this two ways. Either assign yourself a static IP in the TCP/IP properties of your network adapter or if you router supports DHCP reservations you can enter your host name or mac address (depending on the router) and the router will assign you the same IP every time.

Changing it in Windows will have no effect to your linux partition.

I'm quite clueless here... Hope someone can help!

I have Optimum (Cablevision) internet. A Windows XP Professional PC is connected to the Scientific Atlanta DPC2203C cable modem/eMTA. No problems so far.

Having lost my job and trying to save $, I bought a Belkin Desktop Skype phone (Model F1PP010EN-SK) -- the one that connects directly to the modem/router (the idea was so that I wouldn't need to have the computer on all the time to take and make Skype calls). It and does not have wi-fi capability.

When I tried to connect the Skype phone to the ethernet port of the cable modem/eMTA, I realized that there was only one port. So I followed the advice of a friend and bought a Linksys (Cisco) 10/100 5-port Workgroup Switch (model # EZXS55W). I then connected the computer and the Skype phone to it. The computer kept working flawlessly and connecting to the internet, but the Belkin Skype phone attempted for a while to connect to the internet until it displayed a "Network error: Unable to connect to the internet" message.

I thought I found a solution when I found a posting on the Skype forum from someone who had encountered (what I thought was) the same problem: see I have copied and posted the solution below:

Router Information
DHCP Enabled, SSID broadcast off, Wireless MAC filtering for allow access only.

I recently got a D-Link WBR-2310 router. However, since the charger adapter which came with it could only accept an input of 108-120V (power sockets here have an output of 220V), I had to get a universal charger which could accept input of 100-240V.

The router requires a 5V input, so I set the output from the charger as 4.5V, since the next highest in the adapter was 6V.

I am able to power the router on as usual. When I connect the ethernet cable from my broadband modem to the WAN port on the router, it works fine. However, when I connect an ethernet cable from my laptop to the router, all the lights on the router turn on and the router keeps rebooting.

Strangely enough, when I disconnect both the cables and first connect the ethernet cable from my laptop to the router, the router detects the laptop and the relevant LAN light switches on. However, when I connect the broadband modem to the WAN port of the router using the ethernet cable, all the lights turn on again and it starts rebooting!

Does anyone know what the problem could be? The reason I've given such a detailed explanation is so that it may be easy to diagnose the problem.

Thanks a ton in advance!

Hey guys, I've been using static IP for my computer because my dynamic connection always loses the connection and it gets very annoying although it reconnects after a split second,

The thing is when I use static IP sometimes, the router gets disconnected then I have to go into dynamic connection then go back to static IP to get the connection back again. But a week ago, I tried to do the same thing because my internet was down. But for some reason, I can't switch to static IP anymore.. It says: Either you have not entered all the IP numbers or some of the numbers you entered are invalid. The numbers should be between 0 and 255

So I tried putting in a random number at the end of my computer ip address which ended in 0 but that doesn't seem to work.

I hope all this makes sense..

Usually when I switch into Static IP it automatically gives new computer ip address usually something like that but now I can't seem to switch.

I prefer static because I don't disconnect from games and the youtube videos load completely while dynamic keep disconnects the game and stops youtube load.. Also have trouble with AIM because sometimes it disconnects itself and I miss what my friend said or sometimes they don't get my IM message..

Help please? Thanks!

If I have to post ipconfig /all and other stuff I'm willing to do so

Okay, I'm not sure if this is a M$ problem or a Cisco problem. But I'll post this here first, mmkay?

I've got about 30 machines here on a NT/2000 network, going out through a Cisco router.
We pull our DNS from a host company outside the network.
Almost all of the machine addresses are from DHCP, and are dynamically NAT'ed on the router.
In order to VPN to one of our customers, I've had to give four machines a static IP on the network, and a statically NAT'ed address on the router.
For some reason, the machines with the static ip's haven't been able to resolve DNS.
As far as Windows is concerned, I've got those few machines pointing to the same DNS servers that they've always pointed to.
And as far as the router is concerned, the routes and permissions are the same as they were before. In fact, the IP's they have now were formally in the pool of addresses we were using before. Also, I've been monitoring the router, and the UDP traffic from the DNS servers are going through as they should, nothing's being denied.
From those machines I can get anywhere I want via ip address, it just completely craps out when I try a URL.
I'll also try posting this in another relevant board.

MS: Why in the world would you have carrier exclusives if the carriers themselves actively counsel against buying your phone?
Somehow, I still bought a Lumia 920 as my first smartphone, anyway. I 97% still love it and Windows Phone in general, in spite of all the negativity surrounding it.
I understand about the app-gap, but honestly, MS should make the official apps they do have work as well as the iOS and Android versions. Instagram and Spotify are lousy, let's face it. If MS is apparently throwing money away, are they trying to say that the originators of these apps won't accept their money? That there's a better place for throwing away money?
Question: are MS execs high? I don't understand how they could possibly expect to gain market share. Is that even their goal? Is there some kind of plan? It looks like their strategy is actually to lose it. Maybe I'm the one who's high.

Answer:How Can Microsoft Gain Market Share with Windows Phone?

I think people are afraid of switching plus there are a lot of negativity like you mention from carriers representatives and the believe that Windows Phone does not meet in features to Android. Microsoft need to tell carriers that Windows Phone is competitive and can do same job or better than Android.

I could transfer photos from my mobile to my laptop running windows 8.1 by selecting "share" then Bluetooth on my phone. I updated my laptop on 29th July to Windows 10 and have been testing the upgrade to ensure I can accomplish all I wish.
When attempting the same process the following message appears on my phone "The device you're trying to send to doesn't support sharing over Bluetooth"
No settings were changed on my phone and only the upgrade was performed on my laptop. I can still transfer both photos and videos from my laptop to my mobile by selecting "send" and "Bluetooth Device". There are various workarounds but they all take more time. Thank you in anticipation of assistance

Answer:Fault trying to share photos from phone to laptop via Bluetooth

Is the Bluetooth service running in Services? Do you have a choice in Network in Settings for Blue Tooth? Did Bluetooth work correctly before you upgraded to 10? Did you reinstall your Wifi Chipset drivers and the Bluetooth utility for the Control Panel?

Simple question and I should know the answer but I don't know where to go on my laptop can someone help me out please?

Answer:How can I share my phone's internet connection with my Windows 10 laptop?

First, you have to enable Mobile Sharing on your phone. If you're using a Windows Phone, swipe down from the top of the screen and enable Mobile Hotspot. If you've never used this feature before, take note of the network name and network password.
On your Windows 10 laptop, go into WiFi networks, this is down on the bottom right corner of your PC's screen, the system tray. Click on the WiFi network icon, and find the WiFi network with the network name of your phone. It will ask for a passphrase to log in, that will be the network password. Your laptop will bind to the phone's wifi network and you'll be tethered.
Please note that this may not work if your cellular provider does not permit it, or if they require you to upgrade to a different plan that includes tethering.

Question: How to share wifi

If a friend visits me and wants to make use of my wifi conection, what information would they need/I have to give themMike

Answer:How to share wifi

If you have not disabled the broadcast by the router of the network name, they only need the password. If you have disabled the router from broadcasting your network name, and they view available networks, the network will show up un-named and when they try to connect, they will have to enter both the name and the password. Our school uses proxy that requires username/password authentication to connect on Wifi. Good thing is Windows Phone 8.1 has option to turn proxy on/off and sign in to proxy. The problem is after setting up the network connecting to it, my apps still can't
connect to the network (some apps for example are Facebook app, Skype, other 3rd party apps). The IE and Windows App Store can connect to the network though. I am currently looking for 3rd party app that can provide global proxy authentication so I can connect
my apps to the internet but I can't one.

Answer:Why isn't the Lumia Denim show the static IP option in wifi settings?

A little more information would be helpful...
1) Which region is your 525 from?
2) Is your phone unlocked?

I always set my wifi network adaptor proporties Ipv4 to "obtain an IP address automatically" . Same for the DNS server. My landlord's acess point gives me an IP address but at some point the network adaptor settings gets changed to static IP and when I look at the IPv4 proporties the next time I see static IP with the correct last IP address assigned from the access point filled in to the fields. This isn't supposed to work this way and the problem is that on the next connection to the access point, the AP rejects the log in at it's captive portal password page with these settings. The only way to get a new connection with log in to the AP is for me to go back into the adaptor's proporties of IPv4 and set it back to "obtain an IP address automatically".

Ive tried two different netgear wifi adaptors each with its own driver and get the same result. Its very frustrating and i can't imagine any reason for this but wonder if The system has some virus under it. I posted on the Netgear forum and got many views but no replies.

I have CompTIA and Cisco network certifications and work in IT but have never come accross this or any mention of somthing that would arbitrarily change a network adaptors settings.

Answer:Wifi net proporties IPv4 always reverts to a static setting after dhcp

Hi and welcome to 7F. Have a look at this thread in case something there can help
ipv4 settings revert automatically, how can I stop this?

I would like to change my IP address between static and dynamic depending on which WIFI network I'm connected to. I.e. at home I would like a consistent IP address (static) for network file sharing but my University requires dynamic assignment to connect. Is it possible to (automatically) change between dynamic and static depending on the network?

I know how to do this manually, but I was hoping there was a more automated method. Even if there was some sort of batch file I could run when I changed networks?

Thanks in advance

Answer:Changing to static or dynamic IP depending on connected WIFI network

At your house you could setup a dhcp reservation on your router for your laptop.
