Preferred Solution: my internet is not working in regular mode only in safe mode

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: my internet is not working in regular mode only in safe mode

something is blocking in normal mode - it could be firewall/security suite

Hey guys,

I know this has been outplayed over and over again but I was hoping someone could help me in my particular case. I have just updated to Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit this morning, and now I am having issues connecting to the internet. Actually it seems to connect fine (opens Windows Messenger and everything) but says Page Cannot Be Displayed if I try and open something in Internet Explorer. I searched a few forums and found that I should try it in Safe Mode and voila it worked. The other forums stated that that usually means that I have some 3rd party software blocking my connection...but how do I find out which one it is?

Please do not post your Hijack this logs here. Due to Forum Rules we cannot assist in malware removal here. Have you tried a different browser (Chrome, Firefox etc)? When you say IE only works in Safe Mode with Networking, Do you mean you boot the computer normally and use IE (safe mode) or are you booting the computer into Safe Mode with Networking? In other words you can't boot normally?

why?!?!? i tryed a lot of stuff but nothing ever works

Answer:why can i go on the internet in safe mode but not in regular mode?!?!?!?

You might be experiencing a sever infection or a system corruption ( the files that dont run in safe mode but real mode might have been corrupted such as drivers ) but these are all assumptions right now. Please get into safe mode with networking. Click on greyknights link below and follow the instructions for a malware clean-up. Get a hjt log and post it under hjt log help forum. Hello,
I have this problem with my laptop - sometimes I cannot login - after choosing the user the screen freezes or after logging in it works only for a few minutes in regular mode (I can do things over those minutes like open firefox, but I cannot open folders, sometimes I can open the task manager or even some programs) but then it freezes and I have to shutdown the computer manually by pushing the power button. When I tried pushing crtl+alt+del I got a message "The logon process was unable to display security and logon options when ctrl+alt+delete was pressed. If the operatin system does not respond, press esc or restart the computer by using the power switch". I don't know if this helps, but I try to add as much as I can. Sorry it it's not relevant - my knowledge about computers and IT is minimal.
The computer runs fine in safe mode.
So I tried system restore to a week before when the computer was still fine and it didn't work. So I reinstalled a graphics driver (Intel HD Graphics Driver) as I found on the internet that similar problems got fixed by reinstalled videocard drivers. And it worked, everything started to run smoothly again in the regular mode. As normally I allowed windows updates and after restarting my computer, the problems came back.
I assumed that the problem was the updates so I uninstalled most of them (KB2930275; KB2923961; KB2925418; KB2929755; KB2929733 and KB2918077) but the problem was still there and I was unable to unin... Read more

Just a general question:1. When doing a routine scan for viruses and malware, etc. (and just generally speaking), is it better to scan in safe mode or regular mode? 2. If you scan in safe mode, is there anything that wouldn't show up (that you could potentially miss) that *would* show up in regular mode? 3. Or is safe mode just better all around, and everything is covered (plus more) that you'd find with scanning in regular mode?(I'm referring to scanning with AVG A/V, AVG Anti-Spyware, SpyBot (old version), and Ad-Aware SE.)Thanks!

Answer:Better To Scan In Safe Mode Or Regular Mode For Virus/malware?

Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode designed to start Windows with minimal drivers and running processes to diagnose problems with your computer. This means some of the programs that normally run when Windows starts will not run.The Windows operating system protects files when they are being accessed by an application or a program. Malware writers create programs that can insert itself and hide in these protected areas when the files are being used. Using "Safe Mode" reduces the number of modules requesting files to only the essentials to make your computer functional. This in turn reduces the number of hiding places for malware, making it easier to find and delete the offending files. Using your anti-virus and anti-malware tools, in "Safe Mode" also speeds up the scanning process. Read "Beginners Guides: Windows XP Safe Mode Explained" and "What is 'Safe Mode' used for and why?"

SweetTech just helped me clear out some malware and referred me to this forum when I ran into some interesting issues with Safe Mode:

1. I could not log into safe mode as administrator, it stalled at "getting personal settings". I am able to log on with as my regular user though.

2. In Safe Mode my C drive has 2 Gigs more of free space than in regular mode (is that normal? I though what's on the drive is on the drive no matter what mode I use...)

I have an HP Pavilion Laptop running WinXP SP3.

Many thanks for your input and advice!

Answer:Difference in disk space between Safe Mode and Regular Mode

In Safe Mode my C drive has 2 Gigs more of free space than in regular modeHow are you reading this , or from what program.I think this is only due to being in Safe Mode and in Safe mode you are not using all processes compared to Normal mode.Is the first item an issue for you, then you could have asked S /Tech during her help.Thank You -

Hi all!

Today I started up my computer (an XP machine running SP3) and after it went through the BIOS, it showed the Windows startup screen (the Windows logo with the blue progress bar), but when that was done, it went to a black screen and won't do anything else.

I restarted and tried a few different things; Start Windows Normally, and Last Known Good Configuration both got me the same black screen.

CheckDisk ran, and it made it to the end, but froze when it said "please wait while your computer reboots" ... after waiting more than 10 minutes, i hit reset and tried to reboot it myself. It did the same Bios-Windows-blackscreen thing as before.

I also tried booting into Safe Mode, which DID work, and when I got in there I tried to do a System Restore (two, actually... for two previous dates) but both did nothing to resolve the problem. I tried simply copying my "important" files to my external HD (which it sees), but it won't copy in Safe Mode

When loading in Safe Mode, the driver list pauses and says "press esc to cancel loading of SPTD.sys" but I've tried it both ways and it doesn't make a difference that I can see.

I tried using my XP CD to boot from, which takes me into the Recovery Console, and I chose to hit "R" to repair, but when it asks me what drive I want to login to (which is C:) I don't really know what to do from there. I haven't booted from a CD before, so I assumed it would run a "Repair Wizard&... Read more

Answer:XP won't load in regular mode (black screen), but will in Safe Mode

Just to clarify, I don't really care if the XP installation is fixed, I just want to know if there's a way to get the files off the HD onto an External USB drive. There's gotta be a way... right?

Hi, I'm having some problems fixing my bleeping computer (Windows 10 desktop computer, to be specific) and could use some assistance.

On Friday 15 December 2017, my computer ran fine when I woke up and used it for a few minutes in the morning. Before that date, I had very few problems with my computer running; the biggest issue was some freezing occurring while playing games demanding on processing power such as Civilization 5. However, I don't believe that is related to my current issue, as I last played it on Sunday 26 November 2017, and I had no issues with it on that day.

When I returned home later that day (15 December), I found my computer stuck on a blue screen. I'm not sure quite what happened, as my computer was not used during the day at all. I restarted several times, but I was not able to even make it to the user login screen before getting a blue screen. I've received error code 0xc0000142 for every blue screen.

Startup repair did nothing to resolve the situation. I am still able to run my computer in safe mode with networking and that's how I'm writing this post. For the past two weeks, I've been using safe mode to use my computer. I've looked online for solutions, but haven't gotten much. I've had some problems in safe mode with random freezes, but at least the computer runs most of the time, although with limited functionality.

My research led me to trying Windows + R and opening msconfig.exe and disabling all services that were not... Read more

Answer:BSOD - Computer runs in safe mode, not regular mode

If you work OK in Safe Mode - but not in normal mode, it's most likely a software problem.
Hardware problems are possible, but nowhere near as likely as a software problem.

First thing I'd suggest is trying a clean boot.  It's similar to Safe Mode - but works in normal mode by disabling stuff.
It's also similar to disabling the services - but you'll disable more when doing a clean boot.
If a clean boot fixes the problem - then the problem was caused by one (or more) of the things you disabled for the clean boot.
Then it's just a matter of re-enabling things one at a time until you find the problem.
Perform a Clean Boot:  http://www.thewindowsclub.com/what-is-clean-boot-state-in-windows
If that stops the problem, then re-enable things a few at a time until you figure out what's causing it.
Then uninstall the problem program (from Start...Settings...Apps...Apps & Features - if you don't find it there, check the right sidebar for Programs and Features and see if you can remove it from there).

Backup your stuff now.  There's no telling exactly what the problem is - so a backup is the best way to be prepared in case the system dies on you suddenly.

If this doesn't work, then post back and we'll ask for some reports to try and figure out what's going on.
Good luck!

My computer is a HP Probook 4710s running windows xp professional w/ SP3
When I started it up it was very slow, did not make the chiming welcome sound and none of the icons or taskbar came up.
I hit ctrl+alt+del and explorer.exe was there but clearly not doing anything.  Only 21 total processes were running.  I rebooted in safemode and all of my icons appeared.  I tried a system restore but it did not work.  I can reboot in safemode with networking but the following error message appears.  "Runtime Error!  Program  c:\ProgramFiles\Hewlett-Packard\IAM\Bin\AsGHost.exe    This application has requested to terminate in an unusual way. Please contact the applications support team for further infomation."  I had contacted microsoft's tech support who thought the problem might be a corrupted user profile, so we attempted to create a new one and copy the files over to it, but the copy never worked and would fail part way through saying, "cannot access files" and then stop.  So those profiles were deleted and now I'm back to not being able to boot up with just the plain old default ADMIN user.  I don't want to shut down my computer since I'm worried if I do, it will stop booting up in safe mode too.  It's done that before, it cycles through all the files and then hangs up for about 3 minutes and automatically reboots.  Any suggestions?

I started getting BSOD's right after login after boot up. I get a number of different ones and occasionally some repeat. When I come up in safe mode (with and without networking) I can function as long as I don't do too much. I've drive tested my system drive and I also did a memory test. I've also not made any changes recently. If I do too much it will BSOD though. When I start copying files off my system drive to my storage array, I BSOD if I'm doing more than a couple gigs.

I can't seem to get a consistent BSOD. I've listed most of the ones below, I haven't caugh them all.

Any help is appreciated and thank you in advance.Memory Management with Stop 1a
Cache Manager with 0x34 I think
Stop with 0X24
Stop with a 0x7f
Page fault in non-paged area with a Win32k.sys
got 2 more new ones today
special pool detected memory corruption 0xC1
pfn_list_corrupt 0x4E
Going to add new dump in reply here in a bit.

Answer:Different BSOD's upon login in regular mode and in safe mode

Lots of crashes but they are not showing any probable cause.

Do these, as a test:

Free up the startup.
Click on the Start button
Type ?msconfig (without quotes), click the resulting link. It will open the System Configuration window.
Select the ?Startup? tab.
Deselect all items other than the antivirus.
Apply > OK
Accept then restart.
Stop nVidia automatic driver update:
Open nVidia control center.
Help> Updates. It will open the nVidia updates window.
Click the preferences tab.
Uncheck "Automatically check for updates"
Apply > OK.
If the crashes continue to occur after doing these, enable Driver Verifier to monitor the drivers.
Driver Verifier - Enable and Disable
Run Driver Verifier for 24 hours or the occurrence of the next crash, whichever is earlier.

   Information
Why Driver Verifier:
It puts a stress on the drivers, ans so it makes the unstable drivers crash. Hopefully the driver that crashes is recorded in the memory dump.

How Can we know that DV is enabled:
It will make the system bit of slow, laggy.

   Warning
Before enabling DV, make it sure that you have earlier System restore points made in your computer. You can check it easily by using CCleaner looking at Tools > System Restore.

If there is no points, make a System Restore Point manually before enabling DV.

Hi all, my laptop has been acting crazy the past couple of days. First of all, I was watching a movie on it and it just shut down. when I tried restarting it in normal mode i would get to the welcome symbol after what seemed an eternity of loading, but then the screen just went black. when I opened in safe mode with networking, everything was fine. So then I went to msconfig and unchecked the two items i was allowed to. rebooted the system and I could get into normal mode again.

So the problem now is that normal mode is acting like safe mode meaning that the bottom toolbar looks the same as in safe mode as well as any of the other open windows. also, after i tried restarting it again, i get this dialogue when I try to connect to my wifi " the dependency service or group failed to start.".

thanks for any help.

Answer:normal mode acting like safe mode and now internet not working

I'm using windows 7 64-bit operating system with internet explorer 11, and Firefox. I can use my browsers while in safe mode to upload / download information. However, after starting windows normally the browsers no longer work, that is, when I start IE I get the "This page cannot be displayed" message even though the url is microsoft.com and Firefox give me the Mozilla Crash Reporter form. I've checked the internet connection in network and sharing and see the connection is made; also when I run MS Security Essentials it gets the current updates. So it seems that it is just a browser issue. Thought someone might have an idea of how I can get my browsers working again.

My computer wouldn't boot past advanced options menu for a quite a while. So I was messing around in safe mode running anti virus software an it booted normally finally . But after that I went into add/remove programs and got rid of some stuff and I'm not sure if the internet was working before I did that because I did it right when the computer booted up again. However it does work in safe mode

We had a power outage recently and even though the backup kicked in, our MS Outlook 07 (running on XP Pro) will only open in Safe Mode with limited features. When I reboot, I get an error message saying Outlook wasn't closed properly. It will not load at all unless I click on the offer to operate in safe mode. How do I get the system to function normally in regular mode with full features again? I'd appreciate any how-to help anyone can provide. THANKS!

Answer:Outlook 07 Safe Mode vs Regular Mode

Reinstall. It has been too badly damaged. Your settings have been preserved as has your mail, in most cases... but it is still wise to use Outlook recovery software (see www.majorgeeks.com and others) before you perform the reinstall... your files in process at the time of the failure are likely lost.

My mother and I share a network, and both own Compaq Presarios from the dark ages . She is running XP and I'm running 98. I caught a virus (pretty sure it's Virtumonde) and I'm taking steps to deal with it. This is not about my problem... unless it's her problem, too.

She recently bought a laptop (which runs Vista) and is networked into the same system. For this laptop, she purchased ESET NOD32 Antivirus4. When she heard about my problem, she thought that it might be a good idea to install this same program to her PC before I reattached to the network to fix my problem. So we did that. Unfortunately, we didn't heed the extremely mild warning that there "may be conflicts" with the McAfee already on her system, and neglected to uninstall it.

As soon as I was finished with the uninstall, I attempted to enter the Add/Remove Programs menu to remove McAfee. It told me to wait while it populated the list, and ten minutes later, I gave up. The computer had frozen, so I did a hard shut down... and have not been able to do anything since!

We can restart it, sure, but it freezes somewhere between the time it launches McAfee and the time it launches Eset - any attempts to do anything either fail or cause the freeze. We of course tried booting in safe mode, but cannot get the options screen (we tried the tapping and holding methods for both F8 and F5).

Incidentally, her computer's symptoms do not resemble mine in the slightest.

So here are my que... Read more

hello, my computer's screen froze the other day and now when I turn it on again it tells me that it didn't shut down properly. Gives me the options of continuing on safe or regular mode. What should I do?? how do I get it back to normal?

Answer:safe mode or regular mode??

Boot to Safe Mode, then shut down normally, then boot to normal mode.
While in Safe Mode you can attempt to troubleshoot the issue, and in Safe Mode with Networking you can even update your drivers (such as your video drivers).

Hi i have been having problems with my 5 year old computer for maybe 6 months, and I have some serious problems with it. One problem is, when the computer started up, it makes this click noise, like someone pushing a button. Me being a complete amatuer, ignored it until finally it totally effed up my computer. My computer wont go into windows xp, it wont even go to safe mode. I can only go to the system restore screen, and i cant even restore my computer since it says " cannot format user portion !" Any help?

I already have all my info stored on a network, so i dont mind like wiping it totally clean, I really just want to delete some stuff on there. (some games and some programs, cuz of serials) please help^^

Answer:No safe mode, No regular

That clicking noise is probably a sign your hard drive took a dive, along with your symptoms, and you need a new one.

on the screen, it'll just show "digital" for a few seconds, then switch to "analog" and it'll continue to switch back and forth. I tried powering the monitor on and off, and restarting the computer. no luck.

however, if I go into safemode, everything works just fine.

it's a Samsung Syncmaster 910t. any help would really be appreciated

in safe mode windows uses a vga driver - maybe you have a problem with the video driver.
have you checked the device manager in safe mode.
you may want to try updating the driver - and/or display driver

Hi all,

We were recently having issues with the new versions of Silverlight. My girlfriend tried to download an older version. Apparently the sight she tried to download it from was rogue. I tried to uninstall it (Silverlight) without success. I thought if I went into safe mode, I might be able to get rid of it that way. However, I was not able to boot into safe mode. The computer just went to black screen. I was able to reboot in normal mode by turning off the computer and restarting so I went into msconfig and checked the system boot box in an effort to force reboot in safe mode. Now it wont boot in normal or safe mode. (black screen) If i could uncheck the system boot box, the computer would not be trying to boot into safe mode, so it seems I’m stuck there. Any thoughts?

Whenever I try to boot into xp, one of two things happens.
I try to boot into normal mode or last known good config, and it goes to the login screen, I click on my account, it shows just the desktop, no icons, just the wallpaper, and then goes back to the login screen.
This repeats everytime I click on my account login.

When I try to boot it into safe mode, it flashes something about realtek boot and asks me to hit shift and some other variety of keys but then it disappears as soon as I have a chance to fully read it, it just loops back to the mode select screen, I don't even get to the login screen.

What should I do?

It's my first post here, so hey all.
I don't know if it's the right section for my problem, so sorry if it's not.

I've got a problem with my PC. Yesterday, my PC has started working really slow, and the sound ''lagged'' aswell. I've tried running Quake 3, but it was hanging after few secs, tried it a few times, while Starcraft was running fine for around 1 hour, and no hanging or restarts. I've tried reinstalling Windows (I have Windows XP Pro.), and the PC didn't work slow anymore, but it STILL was hanging in normal mode and in Q3... So, I've tried to run antivirus scan, and defragmenting, but during the defragmentation Pc hanged. I restarted it and it took really long to load Windows.. And the sound was lagging again, with PC running slow again. Tried reinstalling the windows again, but after some time the same thing happens. Tried formattic drive C:, and reinstalling windows, but after some times the same thing occurs. So... It takes really long to load Windows, the sound lags, everything is working slow, and after a few seconds it hangs on pretty much every game, just Starcraft works fine. Hangs while just in Windows, doing nothing, too. I took a log from HijackThis, but only in safe mode... It just hangs in normal, so sorry for this. =/ I run Spybot search and destroy in Safe Mode, it found like 6 things and I deleted them, but it didn't help. So, I could really use some help, and I'd appreci... Read more

Welcome to Major Geeks!

It is very unlikely that your problems are related to malware especially if you have already formatted.

However if you want to be sure there is no malware then please follow the instructions in the below link and attach the requested logs when you finish these instructions. If something does not run, write down the info to explain to us later but keep on going. Do not assume that because one step does not work that they all will not.

Hello,

From last 2 days I am facing constant crash in windows 7 normal mode (Lenovo notebook G580). but when I do boot the pc in safe mode with networking, crash never occurs. I am posting this thread in safe mode only from the same laptop. I have dmp file generated using verifier. and the same with provided exe here. I will try to upload both. I think some driver is causing the crash but can't find which one. please help to resolve this as I hope must not be the hard disk issue.

Answer:PC working fine in safe mode but crashes (BSOD) in normal mode

The thread title gives the exact impression. And it was a good step to enable verifier.

Now disable verifier.

Then ....
Update the SplitCam product: SplitCam free webcam software for video streaming and adding cool webcam effects

Free up the startup. Windows does not need any other program to auto start with it, but the auto start programs often conflicts and causes various problems including BSODs.
Click on the Start button
Type ?msconfig (without quotes), click the resulting link. It will open the System Configuration window.
Select the ?Startup? tab.
Deselect all items other than the antivirus (MSC) and the touchpad driver SynTPEnh.
Apply > OK
Accept then restart.
Then run the laptop normally. Let us see any further BSOD crash dump after doing it.

The BSOD states:
A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.
Tech Info:
STOP: 0x0000007B (0xF789E524, 0xC0000034, 0x00000000, 0x00000000)

I had a number of infections that spybot and malwaybytes found and fixed, McAfee didn't find anything. I kept looking around for some of my same issues that still persisted, all files hidden, administrator tools empty, cannot run a system restore. I came across your forum that referenced one of my issues and I downloaded combofix, ran it and while it was running the BSOD came up. I tried to reboot in safe mode but still receive BSOD.

At this moment I am runnig ckdsk /r from the recovery console.

I orginally posted in malware forum but I think I need to resolve the boot issue before I can address any malware issues, is that correct?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

OS:XP

Answer:BSOD cannot boot in regular or safe mode

If the chkdsk doesn't help which it might.

7B is often associated with SATA drivers. If you can find your SATA configuration in BIOS, it might be worth a try to set it to ATA or IDE emulation.

If you give the model of computer or motherboard we might be able to figure out where the setting would be in BIOS. Usually it is under Drives or something like that.

I'm not sure that the setting switch on a running OS will help but it couldn't hurt to give it a quick try.

I have been having the same problem I think. Using wireless I can connect in safe mode but not regular. When I try to connect it say's page cannot be displayed. It shows the internet is connected but it will not connect. I am able to connect to my wireless network with my phone and it works fine. Toshiba said since the laptop connects in safe mode that there is a program blocking the connection and that program needs to be found. I did not want to pay them $100 for a 1 time fix. I am using Windows XP home edition with SP3. It was working normally. I used to get a popup "Windows cannot find "syssetup.exe"....When i opened yesterday morning I found it taking longer and never go to the desktop after giving the username and password. It stops at Welcome screen with a msg "Loading your personal settings" and no more response. I followed below steps to trouble shoot the issue.

1.I have tried opening in both "safemode" and "safemode with networking", found its working fine. I ran "msconfig" in safemode and unchecked some unwanted applications(nothing related to windows process) and tried again opening in normal mode.... Not worked

2. My internet works normally in safemode. Found some virus by running antivirus in safemode and cleared all the viruses.

It would be really appreciable if any one could solve my issue..

A few days ago, my laptop started acting strangely, like when I opened skype, the program initially would not allow calls and would freeze then eventually would freeze with any use whatsoever, followed by any others that were open, until the only option was to shut down the computer. I have suspected that skype is the culprit, but even when not using it, the same process would occur, except starting with a different program. Even before the computer froze up, I was unable to use Task Manager or System Restore. For task manager, an error box came up that said something like "security tools unable to initialize," but I can't recall the exact words and couldn't do a screengrab.

So I booted up again in Safe Mode with Networking and everything worked fine, though it isn't terribly convenient to have to use it. I ran GMER and MBAM, and the scans came back clean. ComboFix was able to eliminate some problem files when I used it, though, but when I try to boot up into Normal Mode the problem still persists, though at this point I'm reasonably sure that it isn't a virus. I've also gone through Event Logs, and I've seen some reports of memory slowing down, as well as my System Information for Windows saying that BIOS is reporting the wrong values for the memory. Also ran a scan of the system, which reported that there were corrupted files that it could not fix. I have the CBS log, but I don't have the knowledge or experience that I can make heads or tails of it, though I a... Read more

2 days ago my computer randomly froze up when I had a few chrome windows open and a few other applications. The mouse can move around but nothing on the screen is responsive. I figured it was a one time thing and forced shut down and rebooted. It again froze up about 3 minutes later and now every time I use it it freezes from within a few minutes of logging in to up to an hour. Even if I just log in and don't touch anything it will freeze at some point in time. Last night I used it for 6 hours and thought everything was fixed but when I woke up it was again frozen. It also seems to be lagging a little when opening new tabs and applications which it never did. It works fine in safe mode and stayed on for over 24 hours with no problems.

Dell Vostro laptop
3ghz 2GB RAM
250GB HD 50% full

What I have done:

Restored to a date of last week when everything was working - didn't help
Ran updated versions of AVG and Malwarebytes - clean and didn't help
Turned off all start up items in MSCONFIG - didn't help
Turned off all non microsoft services in services in MSCONFIG - didn't help
All the drivers in my device manager seem to be working as I see no exclamation points or anything

I googled around and tried to figure it out on my own but can't seem to figure it out so if anyone has any ideas I would love to hear them. If you need any more information please ask and I will provide. Hope it was clear and concise.

Thanks

Please check the Event Viewer to see what errors are showing up at these times. Each error has a date and time.Go to Start> Run and type in eventvwr.msc then press Enter. When the Event Viewer opens click on Applications in the left pane. If you double click on an error a description of the error will open. Click on the copy icon, (the copy icon is highlighted with the red square in the picture below), once this is done you can right click and paste this description. Please post the error description/s in your next post in this topic.

Hi ,

I'm using windows7 32-bit operating system. I have internet explorer 8( it never worked since installation, always shows "No network connection") and Google chrome installed in my computer. I had been using Google chrome which crashed yesterday. I re-installed Chrome and now it says there is no internet connection. In short, I cannot use internet in my computer. Any other browser installed comes up showing the same "No Network connectivity" thing. And then I started the computer in "safe mode with networking" and I could use see that both Google chrome and Internet explorer are working. But they do not work in normal mode. I really don't know what to do to solve this problem. And internet is working as I'm using internet in my mobile using WIFI from the same internet connection.

Thanks you,

Hello there,
I really need help on this one. When I switched on my laptop ( Hp windows 7) , it started as usual and it screened the message " starting windows" as usual , after starting I was expecting the log on screen to come. But there it was, just a black screen while the standard windows tune was heard, there was NO log on screen. It was just black.
Then I went into safe mode with networking. And that's all how it works now.
Please I would be really greatful if you could help me out.

So basically the laptop is functioning all fine in safe mode but wouldn't go further the " starting windows" message in normal mode.
Please Please help

Please I would be really greatful if you could help me out.

So basically the laptop is functioning all fine in safe mode but wouldn't go further the " starting windows" message in normal mode.
Please Please help

Hi everyone,
My internet was working fine yesterday then all of a sudden chrome seemed like it took forever to load and at the end it says unable to connect. It doesn't show any exclamation point in the wifi icon in the taskbar and I tried "troubleshoot problems" but it doesn't fix it. Also I was not able to connect to my default gateway(192.168.0.1) so there's definitely something wrong there.
EDIT:I have just found out that SOME websites work in normal mode. The majority doesn't.

Hello,

My PC was infected with a virus and malware recently. I'm not sure that I completely got rid of it but I used Malwarebytes and it seems to have gotten rid of the fake windows firewall alert that I was getting. However, after running it I can no longer access the internet. The page opens blank and never gives a connection error message. I can get on in safe mode but that's about it.

I appreciate any help that someone can give me.

Thank you.

I'm pretty sure this has happened to me before and somehow it'd always fix itself (reboot many times and messing with startup programs/services) but I'd really like to how to fix it specifically.

I'm like 99% sure I don't have any spyware because I used to run the Microsoft AntiSpyware everyday and now I have Microsoft Defender or something that also has some sort of scanner (which I use everyday).

What happens is I connect to my router and get an IP address and all the other information is correct. I try to connect to any server and it doesn't work. I try to connect to my router and it doesn't work. Ping doesn't work on anything either. However, when I try to connect to other computers connected to the router, it works! Other computers on the same router connect to the internet.

So now I'm running Safe Mode with Networking to get online. This seems to be the only temporary solution I have. I have tried searching Google and fail to find a solution.

I remember that last time it happened was when I disconnected everything and plugged it all back in and this time I actually rebuilt my computer (from my old parts because my power supply broke). Perhaps this may be something to do with it?

Thanks for your help and sorry if this is in the wrong forum. I'm relatively new here.

Answer:Internet Working in Safe Mode Only

Open MSCONFIG and uncheck everything in the Startup tab. Then go to the Services tab and check the box that says ?Hide all Microsoft services? and restart the computer.

That way you are ONLY running Windows and device drivers. It can be tedious task actually finding the problem. Basically you re-check one disabled application or service and restart the computer until the symptoms return. When they do, you?ve found the cause.

If the symptoms persist with a clean boot then the source of the problem must be either with Windows or a device driver. Since you?ve already discovered that booting to Safe Mode eliminates the problem we can rule out a Windows problem; therefore the problem MUST be a driver, since drivers do not load in Safe Mode.

I recently came home to my computer off and when I went to turn it back on, it started up with a black screen after the windows logo with just the cursor available. Things like ctrl-alt-delete did nothing so I tried booting up in safe mode which ended up with same black screen and cursor.

I then went to search the internet for possible fixes and have done/verified the following:

Used boot CD and ran Start-up repair, told me to remove any mp3 players or USB devices and try starting again, didn't work (nothing was connected in the first place). The start-up repair log appears to identify no problems with the system.

It's not a hardware issue, the drive itself has been checked on another computer and I've already used a new drive and installed a new copy of windows using the same computer.

Not a virus issue, scanned the drive for viruses and did a chkdsk on it, neither of which turned up anything.

Unfortunately there are no restore points saved so I can't just revert to an older profile.

Since I can access the drive on another computer, is there any program I could run to try and fix the problem? This seems to be the only thing that hasn't been covered in other topics similar to this one which I've found online.

This is my last resort so any help that you can provide will be greatly appreciated,
Thanks!

Answer:Black Screen on start-up in regular and safe mode

Did you take the cover off and make sure all cables are connected, make sure that your RAM is seated properly. Just anything that might be loose. From what you say, the HDD seems to be OK. It would seem that making sure everything is connected OK would be the next step. Let us know.

This is baffling me to no end. I can boot up fine in safe mode, and with networking. But I still manage to get a BSOD not too long into the session. I managed to capture a video of it and in the Technical information of the blue screen it said "STOP: 0X0000007E (0XC0000005, 0X81CB6169, 0X807F09BC, 0X807F05AO)", not sure if that's of any use... I've also uploaded the minidump file if you can use that information.

The other issue is the OS doesn't load at all in normal boot. It'll show the windows logo animation screen, then go black, and do nothing until I hit the power button. These problems started arising not long after I installed W7 onto the computer (acer aspire, amd athlon 3800+ CPU, installed a dedicated nvidia 9700 gt card overtop of the dedicated one (the problem was there still before that), 1.5 gig of ram).

If anyone could please help me with this it'd be greatly appreciated, thanks.

Answer:BSOD on Safe mode - No load on Regular boot

10 memory dumps - 6 different STOP errors, 5 different drivers blamed

I would suspect that there's a compatibility or a hardware issue here.
The most likely problem is with your wireless USB adapter as the driver is dated from 2006.

Please uninstall the software for your wireless USB adapter and see if that stops the BSOD's. If so, then either download the latest, Win7 driver for the USB adapter or (if there isn't a Win7 driver) purchase a new adapter. I'd suggest a PCI/PCIe adapter that plugs into your motherboard (rather than a USB adapter) as they have less problems than the USB one's.

Hello all,

My wife's laptop (which is running Windows XP service pack 2) recently got hit with super anti virus pro. I ran malware bytes on the computer and on restart the computer would hang on a black screen with the cursor. I restarted in safe mode and was able to get back into normal mode after I used msconfig to disable all the programs that were running on startup. After re-starting I was able to log in, in normal mode. I also used msconfig and changed the startup selection to diagnostic startup.

Now windows explorer wasn't running, so I restarted in safe mode. Windows explorer won't run now in safe mode either. I restarted one last time in safe mode with command prompt. The command prompt works and when I tried to use that to run explorer.exe it came up for a second under windows task manager and immediately closed. I'm pretty much at a loss of what to do now.

Hello,

After reading some of the more recent posts, it seems I may have a problem similar to the following post "871963-browser-hijacked-keeps-redirecting." I think I was infected about 4 days ago. One night I received an error when logging off my laptop, I think I hit end program so it would shut down, the next day when I turned my laptop on I noticed the problem.

My symptoms include:

-Blue Screen when trying to boot to Safe mode - STOP: 0x0000007E (0xC0000005, 0x80537009, 0xF7AEA508, 0xF7AEA204)
-Windows Media Center not working... when you double click, it does show an instance running in processes, it just doesn't ever open.
-Initially, I was getting redirects in firefox when using google or bing. Now I am getting tabs that randomly open of their own accord.

I too have CA security installed... have always been less than impressed with it's ability to detect and block anything. That's keep the free version of malwarebytes on my computer for backup. However, the current piece of malware infecting my computer has been illusive. In attempt to detect it, I have run the following:

1) CA (of course)
2) malwarebytes - I have a log
3) avira (online CD and rescue CD w/o update)
4) kaspersky (rescue CD w/o update) - free online scan is currently down - I have a log of rescue cd
5) bitdefender & chkrootkit (online quickscan and rescue CD w/o update)
6) trendmicro housecall (online)
7) superantispyware - I have a log
8) GMER - I have a log

If I ran IE7 in Safe Mode with Networking, I can bring up webpages with no problems. I thought that upgrading to IE8 would cure the problem but I am still getting the exact same problem. Hello everyone,

I have a Dell Optiplex GX270 with a pentium 4 processor, yes I know, old, but it works. It is running on Windows XP Pro, version 2002 with service pack 3. I have cable internet connected to a Linksys WRT100 router. As of late, my computer has been acting a little funny. I cannot seem to browse the internet for more than 5 minutes (with either Firefox 3 or IE 8) in normal mode, but the computer shows that I am connected to the internet. I was connected via a usb wireless adaptor, but since it has been acting strange, I have removed the wireless adaptor with the software and am now connected through an ethernet cord to the router which is connected to the cable modem.

The internet works fine in safe mode with networking though. Plus, in normal mode, I am able to update services such as McAfee virus scan and Spybot, as well as remote connect to another computer, which require internet although the internet browsers say that it is not connected. I have ran Spybot, Ad-Aware, and McAfee virus scan already as well, all have not found anything. My roommate's laptop is able to connect to the network, via ethernet and wireless adapter, thus I do not believe it is either the router or modem. In device manager, my network adaptor icons did not show either an "x" or "!" icon. I have tried "WinsockxpFix" but that does not seem to solve my problem. I have tried going into "msconfig" to disable all of the "startup" pro... Read more

Hi,

My OS is Vista.I am finding problem in accessing net.My net works fine in safe mode with networking and not in normal mode. Please can anyone help me?Do i need to turn ON any service?

Thanks in advance.

Answer:Net is working with safe mode with networking but not in normal mode..why?

Hi, it could be that something is stopping or preventing your internet connection. You see when your pc boots in normal mode it loads everything and I mean everything. Whereas in safemode + networking it only loads the process and services needed to work or use the machine.

The first thing I would like you to do is go to device manager, hold windows key and press R
then type devmgmt.msc now a window will be displayed and click continue, then expand network adapters, write down what you have installed in your machine and try downloading the latest version.

The other thing you can do is go to msconfig, by holding the windows key located in between ctrl and alt, and press r on the keyboard. Then type msconfig, then go to startup and uncheck everything, click apply and restart. Now if you Internet works it means that there is something loading which is not good or is causing a conflict.

We also want to cancel out Malware so make sure your pc had anantivirus and antispyware and you scan your pc full. Also go to microsoft update and make sure you have the latest updates.

Thanks

I just did a clean re-install of Vista x64 on a new hard drive (old drive crashed). Here's the problem:

Using my ISP (Roadrunner Carolinas) speed test site; I get around 200 to 400 kbps download speeds using IE in normal mode. If I boot to Safe Mode, I get around 3500 to 4500 kbps, which is what it should be (this is what I used to get in normal mode before I re-installed Vista).

Running the same speed test with Firefox, I get around 1500 to 2000 kbps in normal mode, but if I try to download a file it transfers at only the 200 to 400 kbsp rate (if I'm lucky).

Here's more detail about the system and what I've done so far:

Installed all updates including SP2.
Using Windows Firewall, no anti-virus.
Updated network drivers directly from NVidia (Chipset is nForce750i)
Updated graphics card drivers directly from NVidia
Disabled all LAN protocols except for Client for Microsoft Networks and IPv4
Connected via ethernet cable directly to cable modem, no router.
I've deliberately refrained from loading anything but the basics until I can get this sorted out.

This really the second clean install I've done in 24 hrs. After the first one, I upgraded and added a lot of software and add-ons before I figured out the connection problem; so I decided the easiest fix would be to re-format and start over, checking each step to see what caused the slow-down. Unfortunately once I did the second clean install I tested right away and I had the connection problem from the get-go. Since then... Read more

Hey Guys, this is my first topic in the forum, and I came here to ask some help.

First, I got this problem recently, I've tried to figure out what's causing it, and I suspect it's a malware.
I was testing Panda Cloud Antivirus, I decided to remove it, then suddenly my PC started to fail. I use USB Tethering, and the internet access also stopped being recognized.

When I tried to restore my system, the problem disappeared. However, it returned a short time later, disappearing with the restoration points as well.

P.S: I scanned my machine with Avira (my current protection), and using malwarebytes (nothing was found)

Regards.

I have a Dell Studio XPS 435 running Windows Vista Home Premium, bought a week ago. It has had Internet issues from the moment I got it running. If I do a continual Ping test, when it's working I get a correct reply from 192.168.0.56. I get no more than about 20-30 successful pings at max, usually much less. Then suddenly it will Ping from 96.42.0.135, and then usually time out (even if it doesn't time out, I lose the connection temporarily). I called Dell Support and paid a one-time service and they seemed to fix it...although I'm not sure what he did. 24 hours later, it started happening again. Another subsequent call and he had me reset everything to the factory settings, which didn't work. I was then told it was my Internet connection. That CAN'T be because:

A) Charter Cable came out and tested...everything's fine--the Cable tech seemed to think it was redirecting to the Netword Interface Card, but he couldn't figure it out
B) My old computer hooked up to the same modem and cable lines works fine.
C) It works perfectly fine in Safe Mode with Networking(which is how I'm connected now).

I've tried going into MSCONFIG and disabling everything, but I ended up disabling the internet connection as well. I don't know enough about which services to enable to allow me to keep connected to the Internet.

Can someone tell me, after I've disabled all Startup and Service items in MSCONFIG, what are the bare minimum ones to ENABL... Read more

Hi,

My home computer runs windows xp sp2, and i've just come back from uni to find that my family have been only able to use the internet in safe mode for the last month, in normal mode it refuses to connect and is running very slowly. I ran a spybot virus scan which brought up some problems, and said it fixed them but the problem persists. I've no doubt the problem is spyware, i'll post a HJT log on here asap.

Thanks,

My computer started slowing up and giving me some random error messages (I didn't write them down but they had "Win 32" written in them), so I purchased and downloaded Norton360. In the middle of the installation process I received an error message which said Norton could not connect to the internet to complete the installation process. Although my internet had been working before I downloaded Norton it stopped working entirely after I attempted to install Norton. Okay, first of all I'm running Windows Vista. I recently got a virus called "System Tool" which is a fake antivirus. In normal mode it seems to block any executable file. I am working towards removing this annoyance.

So that being said, i went into safe mode with networking. I connected via Ethernet cable to laptop. It does connect locally. But, when i open up ie 7, it does not connect, it gives me the default "Diagnose connection problems" screen.

Please help me out,

Symbiotech

Answer:Internet Explorer not working in safe mode.

The issue was solved. It was actually the router i was using. It was defective.

Thanks anyway!

Hey guys. I just joined and am not sure if this thread goes here but I really need some help.
I have a dell laptop XPS L502 with bios version a01 which I've found is way outdated because i reset the pc a while ago. Yesterday I was trying to upgrade from windows 7 premium 64 bit to windows 8.1. Now 8.1 was on a USB I got from my flatmate who has alot of pc knowledge and he said I'd need to boot from the usb. Tried it but to no avail, so I tried to go into my bios but nothing showed up? He said I should try going into the laptop set up cause it might be something to do with a safe mode boot being changed that is stopping it from reading. So I put safe mode boot on and restarted the laptop. I managed to get into the bios and found it was an out of date version so I went to login to download an update for it. I exited the bios and then the laptop booted into safe mode (basic ) I think it was, so I logged off because I couldn't use it to get on the internet. When I logged back in in NORMAL mode All of a sudden I no longer have wireless access, ethernet access, and both my USB's no longer work.

I've tried redoing the network drivers from my dell disk but it says "cannot install this package on your pc". So I went into device manager and saw that networking isn't there at all??? No drivers or adaptors? My USB's are there and it says they're all working fine but nothing connects when I plug into them.

Any help would be great, as I know I could restore my Laptop to fa... Read more

Hi,
I bought a brand new dell vostro v131 computer one month ago.
I received it with Ubuntu, but I installed my own Windows 7 Ultimate.
Since the time I bought and until now (after hours on the phone with Dell support) - my internet has been working terribly slow (0.1 MB per second on speed tests) . This happens on any and every internet connection (Home, university etc..).

On safe mode it works perfectly.

What is the problem? I read some other threads but none helped me.
I don't have an Anti-virus.
Because the comp didn't come with Windows I downloaded the dell drivers myself (directly from the Dell website) .

Anyhow I don't know what logs and stuff I need to post so I'll wait for a reply to tell me what I need to do I'm a comp science student but I don't know much about computers
Help! I can't live in Safe Mode.. I'm not that kind of guy

Thanks,

Thanks,

David.

I know there are probably 1000 other threads with the same problem, but after reading through one from 2010, theres probably also 1000 different things that can go wrong with all the new programs etc.

ANYway, I am using a Netgear DGN2000 modem router. Other computers are connected wirelessly to the router with no problems. Works in Safe Mode.
I have uninstalled the programs I have installed in the last couple of days, no success. I have also download Malwarebytes and run a full scan... it found 3 problems, all removed and restarted with no success. I have looked through the routers settings, to see if something had changed recently, everything is normal. I am COMPLETELY stumped!

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Answer:No Internet access; working in safe mode

I am now going to try and restore to last known good configuration. will post back in a few.

Regards.

Answer:Internet only working in Safe Mode with Network.

Have you tried: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/panda-antivirus-uninstaller/

Panda Antivirus Uninstaller tool?

Usage Instructions:
Download the Panda Uninstaller and save it on your desktop.
Double-click on the Uninstaller.exe icon to launch the program.
When the Uninstaller starts, make sure all of your programs are closed and click on the OK button.
When the program has finished, your computer will automatically reboot.  If it does not reboot, perform a manual reboot.
The Panda programs should be uninstalled.

I noticed the PandaSecurity also provides an uninstaller tool on there website that you could try if those tool above doesn't work

This happened between uses while notebook was in standby mode.  One day everything worked fine, next day had no access to Internet via browser or e-mail in Normal mode except via WinSCP (secure FTP utility).  In safe mode, had access to Intenet, whether browser or e-mail.  OS is WinXP Pro.  Tried everything I could think of, including unistalling firewall & anit-virus.  Any ideas?

Answer:X61 gets access to Internet via browser in safe mode but not in normal mode

I think your pc might have some virus. Scan your pc with free online scanner here a links to some. www.eset.com/onlinescan/support.f-secure.com/enu/home/ols.shtmlhousecall.trendmicro.com

Hi guys, I'm new to the forum and really hoping you can help me :)

My internet has not been working on my laptop, which happened very suddenly 2-3 days ago. The connection is fine on my other computer and phone, so I know its not the internet itself. Even on the laptop, it SAYS the wifi is connected, but its not working. Firefox was instantly crashing, it wouldn't even bring up the browser window. Chrome gives me a "DNS address not found" error for every site I try and IE wont load anything.

I've tried flushing my DNS, using that ipconfig /refresh and /renew thing. I've tried troubleshooting the wifi connection, disabling/enabling it. I ran a Malware Bytes scan and only found a couple of "pup" programs/cookies that have been deleted. Currently running a SuperAntiSpyware scan.

The thing is, I tried using the internet in Safe Mode with Networking and it works just fine! So that means a program or something on my computer is causing it, right? There were issues with my Teredo Tunneling Psuedo-Interface driver the other day, it had a yellow triangle with an exclamation mark, but I did a couple of fixes that I found on help sites and that exclamation is gone now.

Please help, I really want to use my laptop on the internet again ;_;

Oh, and the specs for my comp are:
Lenovo Win7 PC
Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-2410M CPU @ 2.30 GHz
RAM: 6 GB
Windows 7 - 64 bit operating system

Answer:Internet works in safe mode w/ networking but not normal mode

In Network and Sharing Center, there is a wizard to troubleshoot connection problems. If that doesn't work, you could "set up a new connection".

Answer:Internet works in vista only in safe mode and not normal mode

My first suggestion would be to get into msconfig and uncheck as much as you can in the startup tab. See if you can then use IE or whichever browser you use. If it works, then slowly add items back until you find the culprit.

I'd guess you have some kind of malware on your computer, have you run a virus scan? I'd followup with something like malwarebytes.

Ok, I'm sure I'm missing something simple, but I have looked everywhere.I have a T60 running Windows XP Pro w/ SP3.  About 72 hours ago, I lost the ability to access the internet via my browser (IE7) while running in normal mode.  Works fine in safe mode with networking.  I am connected to a home network using wireless.  Router and modem all check out fine, and have been rebooted.  A 2nd laptop was brought in to verify and worked fine.  T60 will not allow internet access with wired port or wireless port in normal mode.  My desktop computer works fine on same network. The only update I've made recently is the update to the WiFi driver from Lenovo a few days ago.  I've even rolled back to the previous driver and still cannot stay connected to the internet for more than maybe 1 minute in normal mode after bootup and loggging in.I've run every Malware/anti-virus program known to man and have found nothing (Malwarebytes, Spybot, A-Squared, etc.)I've run several Rootkit tools and found nothing.I've disabled, removed and reinstalled my Norton Internet Security software and made no difference.  (same version running on my desktop and working fine.  Same version that has been running on this laptop for months and working fine.)I've done Registry restores (from a backup) and repairs and no change.I've removed and reinstalled IE7.I've run Hijackthis and had the info analyzed, found nothing.I've tried winsock repair tools, "netsh" reset co... Answer:No internet in normal mode but works in safe mode with networking

The first thing i would do is stay in safe mode and run a virus scan.

Also check for a system restore point.

Use your Install DVD. When on the install now screen choose repair in the left side of screen. Select your OS. Then When at the GUI select system restore. Choose a date before all this happened.
