How do I stop my XP machine seeing every file on networked Windows 7 machine?

Question: How do I stop my XP machine seeing every file on networked Windows 7 machine?

My problem seems to be the opposite of most people's - I added a Windows 7 laptop to my previously all-XP network without any trouble, simply enrolling the new machine in the existing Workgroup, and everything works fine.

Except for just one snag: from my XP machine I can see every single file on the Windows 7 machine, which raises privacy issues even within a family!

How do I stop this happening, and revert back to the situation I had before, where machines on the network could only see each other's shared folders?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Preferred Solution: How do I stop my XP machine seeing every file on networked Windows 7 machine?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: How do I stop my XP machine seeing every file on networked Windows 7 machine?

Well, a rough and dirty security fix would be to make sure that "Password Protected Sharing" in the Network and Sharing Center is set to "On." That way the files will be safe but still visible.

Are you logging into w7 with a password?

Create an account below Administrator level with a password and use that.

Theoretically w7 should not allow a drive to be shared, so check all the folders that show the "Share" symbol and set the Share to "Not Shared".

I have a new Gateway Vista 64 machine for my office . The old HP Pavillion Pentium 4 with XP 32(?)is networked in other room Here's my setup:
Ethernet network with a new wireless Netgear router (yes,it has places to plug in the ethernet cords).
-HP Laserjet 1200 printer is plugged directly into the Vista 64 machine.
The XP Unit is on the network.
I can see and share files between the machines just fine but I get an error when choosing the networked printer in "add printer" when setting up XP unit.
(Print sharing is turned on on Vista Machine).
I choose the networked printer found on Gateway, it says that it will install drivers onto my machine to make things work, I click ok and it says that server for my printer has the wrong driver installed, would I like to find right driver? Clk yes. It looks for a VSFILE\XP but can't find it. It tells me to manually find the file but I can't find that file on HP site or any of my discs. I've uninstalled and reinstalled original drivers onto the XP machine (PCL6) and downloaded a Universal PCL5 printer file. None correct the problem. Vista automatically loaded the printer drivers when I turned on the power. It has a PCL5 file. The 1200 printer works fine when printing from Gateway machine. Vista will only let me use the drivers already installed in the machine. When I try to manually try to install drivers downloaded from HP for an XP on the the vista then it balks and says they were not created for an X6... Read more

Answer:Solved: XP machine can't print on networked Vista Machine

I ended up hiring someone to solve this mess. He just created local ports on each machine that directs the pre-downloaded, local driver, to the printers. Worked just fine. Start, Run, //"name of network" to see if printers can be seen on the network 1st.

I have a Win7 Computer on a network with 2 other Win7 computers and a few xp computers. On the main Win7 PC is a folder which i share with all the other machines. After setting this up, i checked that the Win7 computers and XP computers could see the drive and all was good.

However, after using some of the Win7 PC's to create new files and folders inside this shared folder i noticed that it was only the other Win7 PC's that can see the new files/folders.

I have also created new folders in in shared file using the xp machines... refreshed the folder and they disappear...

The xp machines can see the folder still and access lots of other files within it, but can never see new files or folders...

HELP!!!!! in desperate need for some assistance please.

Kind Regards,

Samuel

Hi,
I am having trouble connecting from an XP (Home) desktop machine to a Win 7 (Home Premium) laptop to share files.
I have read and followed a lot of posts to no avail.
specifically I have followed the advice in "How to make Windows 7 work with older Windows versions for networking and file sharing"

- both machines are in the same workgroup
- there is no trouble going from Win 7 to the XP box
- on win 7 the network is defined as a 'Work' network
- firewalls are disabled on both boxes
- Advanced Network settings
- Network discovery in ON
- File and Printer Sharing is ON
- Public folder sharing is ON
- password protected sharing is OFF
- Allow Windows to manage Homegroup connections
- the shared folder in Win 7 says its shared (its not in the public tree)
- On folder Advanced setting decurity, 'Everyone' has been added
- On folder Advanced setting sharing it says "People without a user account and password for this computer can access folders shared with everyone"

The XP box is using XP Home which can only use 'Simple File Sharing'.
On the XP box the win7 machine appears in the Network list under the workgroup.
If I click on the machine I get a login prompt!
Attempting to map a drive to the win7 box the same network is shown browsing to the win7 machine does not list any of the shares. (it also does not ask for a login)

Interestingly if I go back to the network and enter the userid / password then I can see the shares... Read more

We have a simple network with only 2 computers (Vista 32bit Home Premium). We want to share some folders on one of the machines with only one user on another of the machines.

However when I try to add permissions to the folder, I can only apply permissions to the users on the machine the folder is on, not to the users on the other machine. The Location field in the permission dialog box only shows the machine that the folder is on.

How can I apply permissions to an individual user on a networked machine other than the one the folder is on?

Thanks!

Answer:Permissions for user on networked machine

Problem solved on another forum. Moved the data out of the public folders into a different folder, and then shared that folder.

I had tried this before but couldn't get it to work. What I didn't realise was that I needed to create a matching account on the machine that had the folder so that I could access the shared folders

Hi Guys,

Would appreciate any help that can be given with this extremely annoying problem, not sure if it is a driver error or not though!!

The machine is a Windows XP machine and was running fine, then one morning when the user tried to login to the network the machine just restarts the second he tries to login to the network EVERY single time. It will boot in safe mode though, so I disabled all services and startup which still didnt work.

I turned off the auto restart to see what the BSOD would say, and the error I am getting is just STOP: 0x0000008E (0xC0000005, 0x80637F4D, 0xA8E9199C, 0x00000000) Beginning dump of physical memory etc.

He says he has installed nothing extra on the machine before it started the problem, any help would be GREATLY appreciated!

Kind Regards.

Answer:BSOD when trying to login to a networked machine?

It could be a memory, hardware, driver, or malware problem. Sorry I could not narrow that down. I would first do a malware scan with Malwarebytes to eliminate that as a possible problem. Then uninstall and reinstall the network adapter driver. If that did not solve the problem run a memory test with Memtest86+. If possible, switch out network adapters, possibly using a USB ethernet adapter.

I would look at the Event Viewer for any possible clues to the crash. Does the computer crash if you use Safe Mode with Networking?

Hello Bleepers!
I've got an unusual question that I'm hoping someone out there can help me with.

I recently aquired an old XP Desktop to play around with and I'd like to stick all my media (music, videos etc) on it and keep it on the network. However, with it being XP, I'd prefer it if it wasn't exposed to the Internet.

Is it possible to have a machine on the network (via an ISP supplied Router) but not exposed to the outside world as I would like other users on the network to be able to access the files on the XP Machine but have it "shielded" from the outside world.

Second point...

I'm toying with the idea of wiping windows to make it a Linux Media Server machine. I'm still contemplating that, however, I read someone in a forum or online somewhere a guy suggesting as a quick dirty approach to sharing files over a network. His idea was to get an old machine, like mine, enable the Folder Share option on the C: Drive thus making the entire contents of the computer available to everyone else on the network.

Not sure I want to take this approach, can anyone spell out any PROS / CONS for doing this over other methods out there.

This is very much a weekend project for me so I'm not looking to spend any money beyond possibly new drives to fit in the machine to accommodate the media.

Thanks in advance

I have networked an xp pro desktop with a Vista business laptop.
For some of the shared folders of the XP box, I want to set the permission to include a specific user from the networked vista machine.
When I go to the folder Properties / Security / Permission / Select Users or Group and click on Locations, all I see is the XP box, so I cannot select any specific user (i.e. restrict to the administrator) from the Vista laptop.

I created a user with the same name on the Vista and XP machine but any xp machine Doc or Excel file I open from Vista appears as Read Only in Word and Excel, even if I transfer ownership to the XP user that bears the same name as the Vista user. Strangely, the property of the file does not show read only when checked from xp or vista explorer. But I can't save from my laptop onto the xp machine shared folders. So, something is wrong in my config but I have no idea what...

Note:
The 2 machines are communicating fine and I am able to exchange files between them.

My son has 'discovered' Linux OS - specifically Kubuntu AMD 64(edgy) with KDE. We have two printers on our XP network for our two wireless computers (no print server, just virtual drivers.)

We want to be able to add the printers to his OS so that he could print when he wants to. He tried installing them through the 'add a printer' (the KDS wizard), let it "find" printers on the network and got an error message (error returning browse list: NT_ACCESS_DENIED)

Could one of you wonderful "experts" give us the "low down" on how to install the printers? I'm thinking he should go for 'virtual drivers' but from there, I'm at a loss.

You folks have always come through for me -- I have no doubt that you'll do it again!! Thanks in advance...

It can't be this hard, and the answers I've googled just aren't working. Gotta be something simple. So. . . .
Main Computer is older Dell machine running XP Home SP3 w/ Norton Internet Security. Settings say firewall recognizes LInksys router / wireless Network
Secondary computer is 2 year old Vista Home Premium 32 HP notebook running same Norton. Settings say firewall recognizes LInksys wireless network / router as well.
I have set up a simple network where I can access virtually all files (including C:/) on the Dell XP system from the HP Vista Notebook. I treat the Dell system as sort of my home server. However, yesterday I realized I had never tried to access files on the HP Vista Notebook FROM the Dell Dell XP system. The ONLY folder that shares on the HP Vista Notebook is the PUBLIC folder (probably why they call it "public" right ?) I have, on the HP vista Notebook, set designated other folders to be "shared" on the Vista Machine, and they are recognized on the Dell XP machine. However, except for the Public folder, I get the "Access denied, talk to the server administrator. . . ." when I click on the VISTA folder while in the XP machine's my network places.

One post went so far as to say to set up a "user account" on the Vista Machine with the computer name of the XP machina. Well, I did that. Don't think that works. For a couple of vista folders, I got sneaky and copied a shortcut from that folder in... Read more

What happens when you try to print to the Brother printer? What's the exact error message, if any?

Have you updated the Brother printer's driver package recently? If not, you should try that.

Do you have a third machine (any Windows OS) that could be used to determine whether the problems printing to the Brother machine are specific to the Vista box?

Hi,
I've checked here and on a couple of other places; many people seem to have similar problems but not similar enough that I've been able to solve it.

I have a HOME workgroup on my Vista machine that is connected to the printer I want to share. I have made HOME the workgroup on my W7 laptop. The Vista machine is able to access folders on the W7 and the W7 "sees" the Vista machine... the network map on W7 shows a "dotted" line from W7 - Vista but when I try to connect from W7 to Vista it will not accept a logon. I have tried using my normal Vista machine User Name and password and even tried creating a new one just for this connection but Windows Security always says "Logon failure: unknown user name or bad password".

One of the other sites suggested that Client for Microsoft Networks needed to be installed on the W7 laptop but when I checked the properties for the W7 NIC there was no Install option... does W7 need Client for Microsoft Networks?

All settings on the Vista Sharing and Discovery are on.

TIA

Answer:Windows 7 machine cannot connect to Vista machine

I finally figured out that it was Vista machine firewall (AT&T Internet Security Suite by MacAfee) that was blocking the W7 machine from accessing the Vista machine.

After I checked the box in Port and System Services to allow RDP access, I was able to access both the Vista computer and its attached printer from the W7 machine.

Hi.

I have a network problem. My windows 7 machine is not detecting win xp machine whereas win xp machine is detecting win 7 machine.
They are in the same workgroup named Home. And the networking system is set to work. I have left the homegroup I was previously in. I enabled file sharing for devices that use 40 bit and 50 bit encryption.
On XP I have enabled NetBios over TCP/IP.
File sharing is enabled on both computers.
I think it's something obvious as both instalations on different computers are really fresh and both windows haven't been tampered with.

Thank you for your assistance.

ive got 2 computers hooked up to a router by Ethernet sharing an internet connection, the internet connection works fine for both computers. i would like to share documents also between the computers

one is a windows xp 32
one is a windows 7 64

ive set up many networks in the past with a bunch of xp machines without any trouble but now i am having trouble
my first step was on the windows 7 machine, i went to control panel -> network and sharing center -> setup a connection or network -> set up a new network

this is where i believe i am making a mistake of some kind, it seems that the windows 7 machine is assuming that i want to set up the network wirelessly, when it is connected to the router via Ethernet. it simply brings me to a screen that says choose the wireless router or access point you want to configure, and hangs there with a greyed out next button

everything seems to be going fine on the xp machine, i created a new network called "sharebear", told it that the computer connects through a residential gateway, enabled file and printer sharing, rebooted the machine, and confirmed that there was a new folder in the network places for shared documents

i went back to the windows 7 machine where it was still hanging, rebooted it, looked for the new network in network and sharing center and it wasn't there, i tried again to "set up a new network" on the windows 7 machine with the same hanging screen

what am i doing wrong?

Answer:connecting 1 windows 7 machine and 1 windows xp machine to share files

Make sure that both computers are in the same 'Workgroup' then follow these instructions
http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/24232-sharing-permissions.html

Also, make sure both computer's Anti-virus and Firewalls are set to allow sharing.

Answer:Windows 8.1 pro image file install on new machine.

If you made a windows system image while in 8.0, you may have difficulty restoring that from 8.1.

Couple of ways round that would be to mount the .vhd in 8.1 disk mgmt, then use macrium free or similar to make an image of the mounted vhd. That should restore fine. Another rather longer way might be to install 8.0 on the new machine, then restore windows system image.

3. Have you tried booting into safe mode?

have two laptops - one running Vista and one running XP. Both have IE 7 and Norton 360 installed. I've verified the settings for IE and Norton are the same on both machines.

On my Vista machine, which is my main computer, I cannot access certain sites, specifically www.dilbert.com and www.advantiscu.org. They appear to be loading, but never load. The graphics are not visible in my Yahoo webmail either.

However, on my XP machine, everything works just fine...no problems.

Like I said, I've verified settings on both machines...I've even done a restore to a previous restore point...no help. I've reset my router, disabled Norton, etc...everything I can think of and nothing has worked.

have two laptops - one running Vista and one running XP.

I've tried with both IE 7 and Firefox, but I get the same result. In addition, the daily Dilbert cartoon that I subscribe to is received in Outlook but the graphics do not display.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Hey all. I just recently purchased a laptop with Windows 8 and wanted to set up a VM of Windows 7 on it. I have never worked with VM's before and I'm ready to get it going. Could anyone provide any help as to how to do it. Thanks!!!

Answer:Windows 8 Machine Running Windows 7 Virtual Machine

Hi there,

For beginners I recommend VMware Player:
VMware Player: Run Windows 8, Chrome OS on a Virtual PC
It's free.

You can also find it on filehippo for example.
The install process is easy to follow and the VM's work nicely.

There are other visualization products out there but this on is best to get started with.

Good luck

Hi folks,

got the following weird problem on my network:

I have one Win XP machine and one Win7 machine. They can see and ping each other. However, the Win7 machine is unable to access the XP machine. When i double-click on the machine in Win7, I get an "Windows cannot access \\NOTEBOOK - you do not have permission" error. The other way round, everything works fine - from the XP machine, I can do all the things i want...

Some Information on the XP machine: Win XP SP3 Home, Avast Anti-Virus (as on the Win7 machine), Windows built-in firewall.

Any suggestions?

I recently got a 1.8GHz Celeron computer from a family member who bought a new computer, but they dropped it while bringing it over. When I started it up, it booted up pretty quickly. But when I'm actually in Windows, it runs as slowly as my old 1GHz machine and sometimes when opening things it has long delays. I thought it might just be Windows being old, so I did a clean install. But that didn't fix it. Now I think it might be one of the hard drives or my cd drives, since at the BIOS diagnostic screen it sometimes hangs at them. Other than scandisk, which didn't return anything, is there a way to find out where the bottleneck is occuring without having to spend money I don't have?

Well, it depends on which OS you have. If it's Vista or XP, then you may want to change the graphics settings so they're lower, because they consume memory.

G'day all! (first post here!! :P)

Ok..so this is my situation:

I have a server...and i have installed a printer to it - the Canon LBP 3200 - the server is a 32bit machine running win7 pro...anyways...this printer does not have ANY 64bit drivers (which my main machine runs win7 ulti x64) so i am unable to install the printer on my main machine...

I was wondering, is there a way to share it from the server to the 64bit machine without installing any drivers?

Or is there a way to install 32bit drivers on a 64bit Machine?

Or can anyone find any 64 bit drivers/custom 64bit drivers?

:S

Thanx all!!

Answer:Sharing a printer from 32bit machine to 64bit machine without drivers.

ok so i tried this method: Go to Control Panel. Choose printer. Then choose Add Printer.

Choose Add a local printer. Click on Create a new port. The default in the drop down box is Local Port. Do not change that. Click Next.

A dialogue box will appear asking for you to enter a port name. Type in the \\computer name\printer name ie. My computer's name is basement and the printer name is EpsonSty so I typed in \\basement\epsonsty

But when i make my own port name it says access is denied... :S

any help?

I am trying to help a friend get her new Win-7 machine set up. I used the printer set-up wizard to install a networked printer in the new machine with absolutely no problem. Proved it would print from that machine.

Now, I get a call informing me that her old XP machine, which had been printing to the network printer with no problems, will no longer print. Documents go into the print queue, but they don't get printed. No error messages show up. I did some messing around via remote access, and finally removed the printer with the intention of reinstalling it. Scanning for network printers turned up several redundant instances of the same printer with different names. Some are identified as "invalid" some a "access denied". Bottom line. I can't get any of the selections to install.

On the Win-7 machine I did find a window that indicated that the printer is designated as being shared, but I didn't explicitly set it for sharing when I installed it. Also, I somehow got to a window that told me that for printers that were to be shared with other versions of windows I could optionally install drivers to support such machines. Didn't have the driver disk handy and took the window down. Now I can't even find it again.

I need some help in sorting this all out. Part of the problem is that out there in "network land" there are redundant remnants of previous installations that are being remembered inappropriately. I'd really li... Read more

I have a Win 2K Pro machine running Internet Explorer 6.0 SP2. My security mode, allowed Spyware, and other Ad software to be loaded to my machine, unknown to me. Now when I boot PC, pop-up (IE window) after pop-up pollutes my desktop until I get non-stop 'Server Busy' dialogs, and my machine freezes.

What do I do to get to a Desktop awaiting normal activities like installing SPAM, and Pop-up killing utilities, and removing these offensive files?

I even tried booting OS in W2K Safe mode w. networking, and the pop-ups continue in this state as well.

Dear Lord!!! Try a restore, if you can (from backups)? Maybe you could boot up of a 2k boot-disk, and then do a re-install of 2k Pro.

Thats one nasty piece of spyware!!

p.s. actually, try booting without networking (safe mode) and have a CD burned with Adaware, Spybot, AV proggies on it, so you dont need to download them.

Hello,
We are having a problem with one of our VP's machines. I have looked everywhere, and tried all I can think of. Here is the background, we are running a windows XP/Server 2003 network with a SAN. Every week or so, This VP will have all the documents from a random folder from his my docs show up as corrupted.
If he tries to open a word doc, he will get a prompt asking him to select the encoding that makes your document readable. None of the given options work. If he tries to open a pdf he gets an error message saying the file extension is not supported or the file is damaged.
Here is the weird thing: The files themselves are not corrupted. They open up on the server with no issues, They will open up on my local machine with no problems. If I move the folder from its current location, to another server or client machine, and then back, he no longer has the problem. Nothing is done with the files themselves. I have checked the permissions on the files and folders, those are all fine. We have checked the networking ports and equipment between the server and his machine also fine.

Thank you in advance for any assistance,
-Todd

I recently upgraded the Bios of my X61 machine to v2.20 and notice that my machine hang for about 30 seconds with a blank screen during startup before accessing the hard-disk. It runs normally afterward. I have loaded the default setting and then turned off anything concerning network-booting in the Bios setup but the problem is still there. System toolbox reports no problem with the hardware. I even reverted the Bios to v2.19 but the problem didn't go away. Should I reset any setting in the Bios or should I revert the Bios to an even more early version? Daniel

Hello crackhammer,

It may be USB waking the PC instead.

You can use the tutorial below to see the wake source.

My desktop machine keeps waking itself up from hibernation, usually during the night, despite my having taken all reasonable steps to stop it. I have:
disabled waking on network, mouse and RTC in BIOS setupdisabled wake on mouse and network in device manager (and checked with powercfg -devicequery wake_armed)disabled "allow wake timers" for all power plans
It doesn't however wake itself up from S5 (shutdown). I also tried leaving it in S3 sleep for over 24 hours and it didn't wake up, although that's not long enough to be certain that it never would.

Unfortunately my records in Event Viewer only go back a bit over a week to my upgrade to Windows 10, but I did notice a pattern in the first few days of waking at around 00:17 or 00:18 in the morning. Event Viewer suggested that this was due to mcupdate_scheduler, which was scheduled to run at 00:19, so I changed the trigger (following some instructions from Microsoft), but the next night the machine woke earlier, at 23:45. Unfortunately event viewer had no idea what caused that particular event. And today I have just run powercfg -waketimer and apparently there is a task \blah\blah\updateorchestrator\reboot which requires waking the machine just after 02:00 tomorrow morning. Clearly trying to change each individual trigger is a hopeless game of whack-a-mole which will sooner or later result in my wrecking something. How on earth can I stop my machine waking up?

Hey guys, I built my first machine in late June this year, and really need some help making the system more stable. My system makes a habit of randomly blue-screening or just going black and restarting... I've read around, and suspect it is bad ram or I've been an idiot and ESD'd something when i installed it.
I have tried to reset the bios settings to fail safe AND optimized defaults, update the bios, update my graphics drivers as well as removing virtual clone drive AND completely reinstalling a fresh OS. None of this has worked as the problem is still a reoccurring issue. I have also tried re-seating the RAM and GPU, and have changed the DIMM arrangement of the RAM, to no avail. Also when I manage to get the system to boot WITH all 8GB of ram (4 sticks) in theirs no guarantee that it will recognize that more than 2 of the sticks are installed.
I've included a few of my mini-dumps, as many were wiped out when i reinstalled Win 7. I hope you have a few pointers for me as I'm starting to pull my hair out.
Really appreciate the effort!

I suggest that you uninstall Zone Alarm. Zone Alarm is notorious for causing BSOD's on Win 7 systems. Use this uninstall tool: http://download.zonealarm.com/bin/fr...cpes_clean.exe. Turn on Windows Firewall. It is better than ZA anyway.

I proceed to install Windows 7 Ultimate x64 as normal, everything is going smoothly.

I have basically two questions.
1) does anyone know if Aloha Bob's PC Relocator Ultra can work with Vista?

2) Is anyone aware of anyproducts, preferably shareware or freeware that can migrate both data/settings and programs from Win98 to Vista Home Premium?

Thanks

Answer:Moving from a Win98 machine to a Vista Machine

I don't imagine there are any software apps with that feature - any of them new enough to work with Vista would likely not bother with Win98. Data won't be hard to migrate, but I don't imagine Win98 programs would work the same on Vista... You will probably have to reinstall the programs - if they are compatible. (My CD burning software, for example, was compatible with XP but caused the PC to not boot when I tried to install it on Vista) Settings are probably going to be a lot different on Vista vs. Win98...

Here's a strange issue--at least I think it's strange. I have an old application that I've had since I had Win XP. I'm not sure but I think I had it even on Win 98. Even though it's an old app I was able to install and run in on Vista and Windows 7. I now have the pre-release Win 8 installed on VMware Player and I was wondering if it would run in Win 8. So I opened Win 8 and put in the CD, clicked on the setup.exe file and it installed--or so it seemed. It always installed a short cut on my desk top before. So I looked and didn't see it. It was supposed to have installed in a particular folder, but I couldn't find it. I then installed it again and chose to put a short cut on the desk top. But, it wasn't there. The bottom line is that even though I had Win 8 open in the guest, I discovered that it actually instaledl on Win 7--on the host machine even though I installed it while the guest machine was open. Has anyone seen anything like that before? I suppose it happened because it was such an old app.

Answer:App installed on host machine while in guest machine

When you put the cd into your drive, it fired the autoplay on your host machine and not within your Windows 8 VM. It installed on your Windows 7 host machine. If you had been in the VM, and launched the setup from within the VM, it would not have installed on your host machine. PERIOD.

Hi all, I need to do the following: I have a driver installed in one machine (Sdo Sensor V2 version 10.0.10240.16384, Microsoft) that I need to install in another machine. Is there a way to extract the driver from machine 1 and install it in machine 2? I know that there are 3rd party tools that do this, any recommendation? Thanks
P.D.:The reason I want to do this is that I can't find these drivers anywhere on the web, not even in Dell's Support site

Answer:Extract driver from machine 1 and install it in machine 2?

on machine 1

Make a D:\DRIVERS folder

from cmd prompt type..

Dism /online /Export-Driver /Destination:D:\Drivers

on machine 2
point device manager to the D:\drivers folder to load the drver

change BOLD text to suit your needs

Answer:machine-check-exception on vista 32 machine

It would appear the 0x0000124 is related to the PCI Express Bus, ie Graphics card Driver or Chipset Software, possibly BIOS conflict. Therefore I would update drivers:a) Chipset Softwareb) PCIe Graphics Card Driver if you have a Graphics Card

I,m new to this development and deployment and am running into a strange problem. I developed an ACCESS db on a laptop. Everything seems ok, it works. I used the Package Wizard and created an installation package. When I installed it on another machine I am now getting errors in the deployment machine that I do not get in the development machine. I seems to be coding issues. Can't load data into field for example.

Why would I get these on the deployment machine and not the development machine? Am I unaware of some way to test the code in the deployment machine? Otherwise how do I solve the problem if I can't deplicate the error in the development machine where I can stop the code and see the problem. I feel like I am missing some trick or secret.

Thanks

Answer:Errors in deployment machine not in development machine

Once it is deployed you need to run the connection command on the client to connect to the back end database. Are you using SQL server or all Access for the back end?

Hey all, I just got an awesomely unexpected birthday present of a new emachine T2862 that has XP on it, saving me from having to scrape up the dough to replace my 5-year-old CompUSA Home Series refurb-p.o.s. Although I think I remember reading somewhere that emachines were not that good, but I believe it should at least be an improvement over the old one, being 5 times faster and with 5 times bigger hard drive! Expecially considering I'm just about broke financially.

I haven't even opened the box yet, I want to do my homework first on what I need to do... I want to transfer a lot of files from my old computer to the new one. From what I've been reading here, it seems like my best bet is to get some kind of transfer cable -- exactly what kind, where can I get one, and about what will it cost? I've never hooked up 2 computers to each other before, and I don't know what's involved... if it helps, this old thing is running Windows 98, and what I want to transfer is:

1) my music - mostly copied off of CDs and stored in windows media player playlists, I don't want to have to re-copy them b/c the reason I copied them to the computer is some of the CDs had been played so much they were getting warped/scratched etc, besides it's time-consuming - I know copying from one computer to the other doesn't save much time, but it would save me from having to keep sticking in the next CD, doing the copy, and then having to re-type in the library i... Situation: Win 8 Lenovo laptop is borked - necessitating reinstalling the OS - decided to ditch Win 8 (hatedit) to go with something that works, i.e. Win 7 Pro. The laptop uses UEFI.

Steps, as I understand them: please correct any errors.

Having removed laptop HDD and confirmed it is working and wiped it using my desktop, reinstalled.

Connect USB media into Desktop and format it for FAT32,
Copy Win 7 Pro 64 disk onto USB
Insert USB into laptop, boot and install from USB

Anything I am missing?

Answer:Installing Win 7 Pro onto a UEFI Machine (formerly Win 8 machine) - Check me, pls.

Download the Windows USB tool here.

This will load the iso of win7 to a usb pen and make it bootable for the installation.

I have an old computer with 2 drives running on it, the C is a little wonky and only starts with XP cd installed under R support to get a C: in DOS. Can I use a printer cable to hook these 2 machines together to get a few files off the D: drive on the old machine from an XP machine? A network cable does not seem to work, I can't see the old machine in the DOS prompt.
Thanks for any help or pointers, and am not sure which forum was correct for this question.

have you tried BARTPE? create an XP live CD using the bart pe builder and you can boot from CD drive of the machine where your wonky hard drive is. from there you can access your C: drive and copy your files on to another computer on the network or on to a USB device.

Win 10 machine has fileshare being accessed by XP and MAC machines without problems.
Trying to connect a Win 7 machine but it insists that the login does not have access to the share.
The login and password are valid. The share and security is open to everyone. All machines are in the same workgroup.
The win 7 machine can see other machines on the net and the Win10 machine can see into shares on the Win 7 box.

So it is just the win7 => win10 that is the problem.

I'm trying to send about 1.5m total of multiple files to four win98 pc's from a win98 pc on a home network without domain through open c-drive shares. The sending pc starts to send the files and then errors out with an illegal operation. If I unmap one of the pc's and then send the batch again, it works no problem. It doesn't matter which one of the four pc's I unmap, the process works. But four is too much for it. Can't figure it out. Someone had mentioned MTU, but I'm not sure where to find that setting or if that is even an option really. Anyone shed some light on this problem or point me in the right direction? Thanks.

Zig

Answer:Batching to 4 pc's from one machine crashing machine

I don't think your MTU settings are your problem. Highly doubtful. However, I don't really understand how you are sending the files. Are you batching to them all at one time or are you sending the files to mapped drive A first, then waiting for it to finish and then sending it to drive B, then waiting for it to finish and then sending it to drive C and then the 4th one after that?

What does your batch file look like? I know it is most likely irrelevant, but might be worth posting.

Ok, this 'brilliant' idea I just had to save time and aggravation can't be possible--but I have to ask.

I have OEM Win10 + apps/data on my recent Lenovo P50.

I've installed a third party BIOS on my old Lenovo T61 (to run SATA II), replaced the cooling fan and will install a replacement SSD.

The P50 is twice the drive size as the T61's pending SSD 'but' the installed data on the P50 is less than the physical size of the T61.

If I restore (Reflect free current version) an image of the P50 to a clean T61 SSD would I get a properly functional Win10 identical to the information on the P50?

Answer:Can I image machine a to a new drive machine b?

Yes, the T61 has Win7 activated long ago that was an update from the longer ago OEM Vista.

Not activating kills my idea.

I'll just go ahead and do the previously downloaded Win10 iso and forget the bright idea.
