Looking for Firmware for DI-614+

Question: Looking for Firmware for DI-614+

Hello all,

I am looking for Firmware for DI-614+ wireless router. When I use WEP encryption, no wireless client (laptop) can connect. I have also tried the latest firmware I can get from D-Link. I hoping to use this with my TFCko box or as my access point for my laptop.

If I cannot use it as wireless access point. Is there a firmware hack to make it a wireless client or a repeater?

Thanks for any ideas

Preferred Solution: Looking for Firmware for DI-614+

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I am trying to coble together two non-working Zen Xtras into a working one. I receive a message: "Firmware Problem," and am instructed to reload the firmware. When I attempt to do so, the firware does not recognize the device although the device shows up in My Computer as a Zen Xtra. I have reloaded the drivers. When I attempt to reinstall the firmware, it states that it cannot detect the device and please connect it now. How do I resolve this lack of recognition?

Is it possible to replace a routers firmware w/ something other than the original firmware to update from wep encryption to wpa encryption and all the other features that these new routers have? If so is this hard to do and is there a big risk or really screwing things up?

Answer:Replacing router Firmware w/ third party Firmware?

nope its easy, and as long as your smart and follow the few basic guildlines very unlikely chance of damaging the router. Biggest suggestion is never do the update via wireless as if you loss signal or what not could loose a bit of data for the router update.

I was prompted to update my Battery firmware I have a genuine battery in my Thinkpad edge E520 that is out of warrenty The firmware failed and disabled the battery so it is no longer operating How do i reverse this firmware or disable the battery bios check?

Answer:Battery firmware has just killed my battery. How do you justify pushing firmware that does this?

Hi, welcome to the forums.

Here it is the support site link for your model just in case.

I'm guessing that the computer is booting but the battery does not provide any charge, right?

I did not have that issue, but I'm just guessing, What will happen if you apply the battery firmware update again? You can download it manually from the support site: "Lenovo Battery Firmware Update Utility for Windows 10 (32-bit, 64-bit), 8.1 (32-bit, 64-bit), 8 (32-..."

This is what it cames to my mind right now, I hope it helps.

Answer:Firmware only or Firmware with 8.1?

It will leave you at 8.1.1. It is simply a firmware update to Cyan for Lumia devices.

Question: firmware?

I heard someone use the word firmware the other day and wondered what the heck it is. After checking out the definition on www.webopedia.com I am still a little confused on the subject. Anyone care to explain this to me? Please?

Answer:firmware?

well i understand it as a piece of software build into hardware. Examples of firmware are: bios's, video bios's etc.

There is a way of upgrading firmware in hardware like DVD burners to make them faster or burn dual layer.

Answer:firmware

If you have not unzipped it, do that now, there may/should be a file, normally called README.txt (if not look for any file with a .txt etention). Hopefully this file will have instructions on how to use it, if not, let us know the name of the mp3 player and someone prob can sort your prob.Hope this helps.

I have a Intel 510 ssd and I looking to add another ssd. Can you have both if they have different firmware. I'm looking at several including Intel 320.
Will this confuse the motherboard bios or Windows 7?

Answer:2 SSD's 2 Different firmware?

I don't think it will give any problems just because of firmwares. After all, it's entirely internal to each device. As long as each one has the proper drivers and the motherboard recognizes each one, they should work.

Can anyone tell me what is firmware?

Answer:what is a firmware?

Firmware - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Quote:
In electronic systems and computing, firmware is a term often used to denote the fixed, usually rather small, programs and/or data structures that internally control various electronic devices. Typical examples of devices containing firmware range from end-user products such as remote controls or calculators, through computer parts and devices like hard disks, keyboards, TFT screens or memory cards, all the way to scientific instrumentation and industrial robotics. Also more complex consumer devices, such as mobile phones, digital cameras, synthesizers, etc., contain firmware to enable the device's basic operation as well as implementing higher-level functions.

Question: Firmware

I recently purchased an nVIDIA 6200AGP8x 350MHz Graphics Card with 512MB For an eight year old Dell Dimension 4600i (P4, 3G HT with a 128 card). As I didn?t think I was getting the full benefit of the new card I checked in BIOS. The maximum it goes to is 256 so I looked the Dell site and saw there were 4 updates, one being video, ok so I downloaded it, and then stopped. I have had a bad experience with firmware (a Plextor drive that refused to work after an update) as a result I am not sure whether to go ahead or not. Ok pathetic but please humour me, do the risks out way the benefits.
Oh, re. the HP on this PC, I noticed it is disabled in BIOS sorry better for a new thread perhaps.
Dave

Answer:Firmware

Now lets see if I understand. You have replaced the the original graphics card with a nVIDIA 6200AGP8x 350MHz Graphics Card.
From the Dell web site it only shows one update for the Bios but it does not state what it was for so should not be used.
Although it does have several driver updates for graphics cards these are not for the new card you have installed and should not be used. Go to the nVidia web site for new updated drivers.
From my memory the bios does not indicate how much memory the graphics card uses. I could be wrong.

Hi,I recently bought my first CD burner. It's a Sony Spessa USB Plus CRX100E/X2 drive. I found out that it can't quite burn an entire 80 min/700MB disk, but that there is supposedly a firmware update that fixes it. I downloaded a firmware update program from Sony's website (found here), and flashed the drive with the default firmware file (CDRW0008.BIN), but it didn't seem to do anything except change the driver to an EEPROM driver. I switched back to the original driver, and it was as if I had never done anything...The firmware program came with another BIN file, ZERO.BIN, so I tried flashing that. I guess that was a mistake, because now the drive doesn't work at all - it's recognized as a "non-specific QT processor with JG". I tried changing the driver back to the original again, but this time Windows won't use it. It just says that there are no compatible drivers for the device. I tried to flash the firmware with the program from Sony again, but now it doesn't recognize the drive as being compatible, so it won't flash it.I was hoping to get some support from Sony, but they informed me that I would have to pay more than I paid for the drive in the first place to get support. So, I hope someone here might have an idea of how I can fix it.

Answer:Is there any way to fix this firmware?

That is why the smarter people here do NOT recommend firmware or BIOS updates lightly. You can end up with a doorstop and no recourse. If the product is still under warranty and doesn't do what is advertised, take it back for a return or replacement with something that does.

I went on to the Nero site which states they will not accept responsibility for any firmware updates.

Question: OEM DVD Firmware

Dvd disk drive won't run DVD's. Makes alot of clicking, spinning noises but wont read disks. Went to HKEY areas and changed some things recom by other forums. Didn't work. Told needed firmware upgrade. Unable to find firmware for Optiarc DVD RW AD-7530A ATA Device because as near as I can find it's an OEM Device. Went back to Gateway(Notebook Manufacturer) and they don't have. Any suggestions? Ifu can't fix, I guess u install a new DVD Device or a new Notebook.
Was also told by Gateway I needed a Codec upgrade.

Answer:OEM DVD Firmware

The codec pack is easy enough- Techspot has what you need here http://www.techspot.com/downloads/775-klite-codec-pack-full.html
Install and then try running the discs.

How does the drive show up in the Device Manager ? No exclamation mark in a yellow triangle?
What DVD's won't it run-commercial (retail) movies, or discs you are attempting to burn ? If the latter, what brand of discs.

If it definitely requires a firmware update then it seem's you're out of luck as there are none as far as I can tell.

Question: Firmware for an AP

I have a couple of DLink 900AP's. One has the standard DLink firmware but the other has some specialist firmware for use with a commercial WiFi network.Does anyone know if it's possible to download the non-standard DLink firmware from the 900AP - so I can flash it to my other 900AP?

Answer:Firmware for an AP

No; I think you'd have to find it on the net. Search for whatever info you have even just its revision number. You can usually make backups of router/AP configurations, of course, but although the firwmare is sometimes saved along with it, it may not accept being ported across and you'd lose the other AP's settings in so doing.

Question: Linksys Firmware

Hey All,

I have a linksys WRT54G router and was wondering what your thoughts were on firmware that could keep all the normal functionality of the Linksys firmware and all the possibility of assigning public ip's to different ports.

DSL Extreme gives me 5 ips and currently I connect to the DSL Extreme service through the Static IP option on my router, but I would like to have each computer in my home connect from a different IP so they can each server different purposes. I prefer one of the free firmwares, but if a paid one is that much better, than why not.

TIA

Answer:Linksys Firmware

The router isn't going to assign public IP addresses to your machines. The only way to do that would be to connect each machine to the Internet directly, obviously not the best choice.

Alternatively you could connect your Internet connection to a LAN port on the router and just use it as a switch, but that would be the same as hooking each PC to the Internet directly.

To do 1 to 1 NAT, what you want to do I assume, requires a router with a bit more intelligence, like a Cisco 800 series.

Laptop is a Dell Vostro 1000 with XP Home SP3. Just installed a Crucial SSD. Works great. Tried to install a firmware update; not so great. Following the instructions from the Crucial site, I downloaded the update (it's an ISO file) and burned it to a CD. In the BIOS, changed boot order to CD drive first. Restarted the laptop. No joy - Windows still boots to the desktop. What could be wrong? I know almost nothing about using ISO files. TIA.

Answer:SSD Firmware Update

CD-image ISO files have to be written to CD in a special way, if you just copied the ISO file to a CD like a normal file, that won't work. There's a free app for creating a CD from an ISO file, it's called IMGBurn: http://www.filehippo.com/download_imgburn/

Any thoughts on why we have not seen an emergence of memory modules that their sole purpose is to house the operating system? I mean for 200-400 bucks you could get memory modules and have them house operating systems like winxp. Wouldn't a read only memory with firmware update capability be a helluva lot faster then a HD? I mean couldn't then operating system reads be sped up to the Nth degree? Wouldn't this also speed up gaming, applications, etc?

Why haven't we started exploring this possibility? I mean instead of getting a CD you would get 1 or 2 sets of memory that you would plug into your mobo? Of course these would be in addition to the ram you currently have on the mobo.

Thoughts?

Answer:Firmware Memory for O/S's?

I may be really wrong on this, but I thought the reason why it hasn't happened (aside from cost) is the fact that flash memory doesn't last as long, and would eventually degrade under the read/write actions that would be needed.

There has already been some sites explaining how to get XP running on a flash drive, but given the USB interface limitations, the performance has been horrid at best.

OpenWRT - if you want even more feature but a command line interface (unix users tend to like this one)
HyperWRT - if you only want increased TX power over the stock firmware
DD-WRT - if you like the Sveasoft firmware but think the guy that runs the company is an ass (he is)

Also, if you have a version 4 unit, you're pretty much stuck with openwrt.

Face it, CD/DVD/BLU-RAY all use firmware on their drives, digital cameras use it, USB uses it, video cards on computers use it; pretty much every different kind of hardware I can think of uses firmware.

Firmware is burned program code and data, so all hardware needs program code and data memory to execute.

Aside from programming for hardware directly, all hardware seems to have burned program code in one way or another.

Mice devices/point and click devices have firmware, keyboards, etc.

Is there any hardware that doesn't use firmware?

Answer:Does all hardware need firmware?

The speakers plugged into the computer (unless they are USB).

A basic desk lamp.

Question: firmware reverse??

running XP w/ sp3
Lite -on DVDrw sohw 1633s

I had intermittent problem so update firmware from BSOC to BSOY from Lite-on webpage now dvd will only burn 726MB??? Can I undo firmware or is this something else??

Answer:firmware reverse??

You typically cannot downgrade a firmware installation. Some installers offer an option to save the original firmware, and can downgrade, but most do not.

In any case, partially burning wouldn't be a firmware issue. Faulty drive, media, or a burning application issue.

I have a WRT54G with the tomato firmware and i don't see anything about 802.1x and DD-WRT says it supports it but i can't find anything about it, i am looking to setup a 802.1x network for my wireless network here in my house, does anyone know a cheap router that supports this?

Answer:802.1X on tomato/DD-WRT firmware

You might need OpenWRT for this, though there may be DD-WRT builds including these kinds of tools.

So I have TP-Link MR3420 wireless router and Windows 7 and 8 in use.

First I replaced the router's original firmware with Open-WRT -firmware, but it did not support my 3g usb modem, so I tried DD-WRT, and then the problem begun: the router's web-ui worked only via my phone, but the I could ping the router, so that was not a big problem. Then I searched from internet how to install original firmware back to router via commands, and followed the instructions, it was all going very well, until there was a command something like ''delete linux'' and after that ''reboot''.

After that I could not connect to the router any way. I have tried pinging , but ''destination host unreachable'' and ''request timed out'' comes always. I have tried hard reset and set the computer's ip to static but no, nothing happens. All lights in the router are just blinking all the time.

TL;DR: My router has no any kind of firmware in it, and it does not aswer to ping. Is there any way make it working again?

Sorry for my bad english. Thanks in advance!

I have just noticed a reference where a person needs to update his DVD-RW firmware to a more recent version in order to be able to burn a specific type of disk. I think I am right in thinking that the firmware is burned into the device itself, in this case a DVD writer? Anyway assuming I am right, if you were to download a firmware update in the form of a zip file, when you extract it how would the data know where to go? In other words when you normally extract a zip file you are given the option of installing it to a specific part of your hard drive like your download folder for example. Just out of curiosity, would the firmware data know that it has to go on the DVD-RW EPROM chip? I assume it's an EPROM chip?I have never had the need to do this myself but I am intrigued by the method of how it is actually achieved! Anyone out there who has ever updated their firmware and if so is it an easy thing to do or do you have to be technically minded? I appreciate your help.

Answer:Updating CD/DVD ROM firmware

You will need to download not just the firmware update but also a small program to run it.The update run program is usually also on the manufacturers site.I did this for My BTC DVD burner in my old computer.Rember the old adage."IF IT AINT BROKE DONT TRY AND FIX IT".A failed firware uodate can render the equipment useless.

Answer:Uninstalling firmware?

Hi,

Not sure but have you tried uninstalling your Burner Software and going to My Computer > Control Panel > System > Device Manager and removing your actual Burner from the list ?

When you reboot it should be detected as new Hardware with default drivers - then reinstall your Burner Program.

I have Aspire E 14. Last night, I saw I have 1 critical update for firmware v1.17. When I clicked the update button it just says "updating" It just goes on and is not stopping. I closed the portal and a window appears saying reflashing. I saw it did reflash up to 100%, but why won't the critical update notification disappear on Acer Care Center portal? I also checked update history and the firmware is not yet included. I tried it again the next morning, clicked the update button, but still, it just says updating and can go on until you close the portal.  Any solution? Did my Aspire really did reflash? It seemed nothing has changed. Thanks in advance!

Hey all,

I've got a Linksys PCI wireless card in my rig (WMP11). A few weeks ago I installed the latest firmware via. windows update (i know... very bad) I did not relieze that windows update had already downloaded the file and when I installed directx9 it when ahead and installed it.

Now I get a message 'the firmware of the card is too old or not suitable for running in your enviroment. The utility is going to update the firmware of your card' message all the time.

When I attempt to let the firmware (via this warning window) I get a error message stating 'This image will not work on the selected card. (8013)

I can't do a restore because directx9 was installed at the same time as the firmware update, and my attempts to uninstall/ reinstall has done nothing to take care of the firmware warning. The linksys website does not have a firmware update (any for that matter) to download.

The card works fine, but the message is annoying. Any ideas where I can score an older version of the firmware (and how do I install it?)

Thanks in advance...
G

I have an Olympus Evolt-500 that won't update the firmware. I'm running XP pro with a DSL internet connection. I've talked to every tech support person Olympus has and they don't have a clue what's wrong.

It will recognize the camera and lenses but it will download from 50% to 83% of the firmware update, then a message pops up and says no connection to server and everything shuts off. They had me try the download with no firewall on and using just the modem no router. I've used Olympus Viewer, Olympus Master and Olympus Studio Trial version and they all download about the same amount before they shut down.

I'm open to suggestions at this point.

Question: Firmware Upgrade

I have a DVD burner which is at least a few years old. I am trying to use 16x disks to burn DVD movies I downloaded and am having alot of trouble. I know i probably need to upgrade the firmware on the burner so it can handle the 16x blank disks. Can I forget about upgrading the firmware and just pick 8x as the burn speed and use the 16x disks or do i really need to upgrade the firmware? I was able to burn a data disc with the 16x discs with no problem, just not DVD video. Thanks.

Answer:Firmware Upgrade

Firmware does not affect DVD writing speed (unless there's something seriously wrong). If it succeeded in writing a data disk, it should be able to do the same with a video.

Sometimes a disk burning session fails without a special reason, try another disk. Of course, you can set your program to burn the disks at a lower speed. 16x is only the top speed at which the disks can be burnt not the only speed.

Question: TP-Link Firmware

After reading the thread by simonsiknasty about slower internet connection, I decided to upgrade the firmware on my TP-Link WR641G Router. I currently have v3 of the firmware and v4 was available on the official Site.

However, after several attempts I have been unsuccessful in upgrading it.
Here is the upgrade screen...

I click on the BROWSE button, select the latest firmware (wr641gv4-en-up.bin) and OKAY. It looks like it's trying to do something, but nothing ever happens! Tried this in both Firefox and IE8. In IE8 the progress bar moves slowly across to about a third of the way then stops.

Has anyone had any experience of this Router, as I'm stuck on this at the moment?

Any help would be appreciated.

THX.

Answer:TP-Link Firmware

My old router was a TP-Link. What a stupid choice I had made.
Well, this thing looks like it has the same firmware as my old router, only difference is I had no 11G, whatever that is. I updated its firmware only once. I didn't have this issue though... Try disabling any forwarded ports and turning off the wireless before the install. During the update does the router reset itself? Do the lights blink or anything? Does it show any indication of loading, processing etc. ?

Hi folks!

I have a Sony VAIO computer with a DVR-108 DVD burner installed. The current firmware available is 1.19, but the firmware on my drive is 1.10. For some reason, I am unable to upgrade the firmware using the firmware installer software. Normally I wouldn't worry too much about it, but my drive supports burning at 16X speeds with DVD+R discs, and I am only getting 4X burn speeds with the 16X discs I bought! (and yeah, they are good quality media!)

I actually get 12X speeds with my 8X discs, but am getting 4X speeds with 16X discs! what a mess!

I have done my share of googling to figure out how to flash the firmware, but nothing seems to help - it's a little overly complicated for me! When I run the installer, it tells me that the device is not found. Argh!

does anyone have anything to offer that might help?

thanks in advance!

Answer:DVD Firmware upgrade.

The firmware is contained in the DVD drive's electronics and you shouldn't have any problem, providing the firmware update was completed correctly. If you have any doubts and it's working OK, you could always do the upgrade again.
