Internet only works in safe mode or for short time normal mode

Question: Internet only works in safe mode or for short time normal mode

Hello everyone,

I have a Dell Optiplex GX270 with a pentium 4 processor, yes I know, old, but it works. It is running on Windows XP Pro, version 2002 with service pack 3. I have cable internet connected to a Linksys WRT100 router. As of late, my computer has been acting a little funny. I cannot seem to browse the internet for more than 5 minutes (with either Firefox 3 or IE 8) in normal mode, but the computer shows that I am connected to the internet. I was connected via a usb wireless adaptor, but since it has been acting strange, I have removed the wireless adaptor with the software and am now connected through an ethernet cord to the router which is connected to the cable modem.

The internet works fine in safe mode with networking though. Plus, in normal mode, I am able to update services such as McAfee virus scan and Spybot, as well as remote connect to another computer, which require internet although the internet browsers say that it is not connected. I have ran Spybot, Ad-Aware, and McAfee virus scan already as well, all have not found anything. My roommate's laptop is able to connect to the network, via ethernet and wireless adapter, thus I do not believe it is either the router or modem. In device manager, my network adaptor icons did not show either an "x" or "!" icon. I have tried "WinsockxpFix" but that does not seem to solve my problem. I have tried going into "msconfig" to disable all of the "startup" programs but that does not seem to solve my problem either. I have tried disabling all of the "services" in "msconfig" as well but it appears that I need some of them to connect to the internet, as I do not have a connection when all "services" are disabled. I do not know which "services" in "msconfig" I need to have enabled to allow only internet to work, thus I have not been able to troubleshoot with this method. I have tried flushing ipconfig as well with the following saved as "Flush.bat" on my computer:

echo off
ipconfig /release
ipconfig /flushdns
ipconfig /registerdns
ipconfig /renew
netsh winsock reset catalog
netsh int ip reset rese.log
netsh winsock reset
pause

System restore is not an option for me either as I have not set up a restore point, so the only one available, date highlighted bold is from yesterday, which will not help me. I really do not want to restore to factory settings. I am out of ideas and would be open to any suggestions you might have. Please help me fix this problem. Thank you very much in advance for the advice!

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Chances are, you have Malware.  Programs that are using internet access that you can't see.  Run Malwarebytes, Hitman and AdWare cleaner.

I am new to this forum. I have dell inspiron N5110 laptop that started acting up about a month ago. Internet works sometimes in normal mode. Works in safe mode every time. Have tried everything suggested on web to get working. Restored to factory defaults, tried removed and reinstalled drivers. Any help would be appreciated. Running in safe mode now.

Answer:[SOLVED] internet works in safe mode but not normal mode

I'd guess you have some kind of malware on your computer, have you run a virus scan? I'd followup with something like malwarebytes.

Ok, I'm sure I'm missing something simple, but I have looked everywhere.I have a T60 running Windows XP Pro w/ SP3.  About 72 hours ago, I lost the ability to access the internet via my browser (IE7) while running in normal mode.  Works fine in safe mode with networking.  I am connected to a home network using wireless.  Router and modem all check out fine, and have been rebooted.  A 2nd laptop was brought in to verify and worked fine.  T60 will not allow internet access with wired port or wireless port in normal mode.  My desktop computer works fine on same network. The only update I've made recently is the update to the WiFi driver from Lenovo a few days ago.  I've even rolled back to the previous driver and still cannot stay connected to the internet for more than maybe 1 minute in normal mode after bootup and loggging in.I've run every Malware/anti-virus program known to man and have found nothing (Malwarebytes, Spybot, A-Squared, etc.)I've run several Rootkit tools and found nothing.I've disabled, removed and reinstalled my Norton Internet Security software and made no difference.  (same version running on my desktop and working fine.  Same version that has been running on this laptop for months and working fine.)I've done Registry restores (from a backup) and repairs and no change.I've removed and reinstalled IE7.I've run Hijackthis and had the info analyzed, found nothing.I've tried winsock repair tools, "netsh" reset co... Hi guys, I'm new to the forum and really hoping you can help me :)

My internet has not been working on my laptop, which happened very suddenly 2-3 days ago. The connection is fine on my other computer and phone, so I know its not the internet itself. Even on the laptop, it SAYS the wifi is connected, but its not working. Firefox was instantly crashing, it wouldn't even bring up the browser window. Chrome gives me a "DNS address not found" error for every site I try and IE wont load anything.

I've tried flushing my DNS, using that ipconfig /refresh and /renew thing. I've tried troubleshooting the wifi connection, disabling/enabling it. I ran a Malware Bytes scan and only found a couple of "pup" programs/cookies that have been deleted. Currently running a SuperAntiSpyware scan.

The thing is, I tried using the internet in Safe Mode with Networking and it works just fine! So that means a program or something on my computer is causing it, right? There were issues with my Teredo Tunneling Psuedo-Interface driver the other day, it had a yellow triangle with an exclamation mark, but I did a couple of fixes that I found on help sites and that exclamation is gone now.

Please help, I really want to use my laptop on the internet again ;_;

Oh, and the specs for my comp are:
Lenovo Win7 PC
Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-2410M CPU @ 2.30 GHz
RAM: 6 GB
Windows 7 - 64 bit operating system

Answer:Internet works in safe mode w/ networking but not normal mode

In Network and Sharing Center, there is a wizard to troubleshoot connection problems. If that doesn't work, you could "set up a new connection".

The first thing i would do is stay in safe mode and run a virus scan.

Also check for a system restore point.

Use your Install DVD. When on the install now screen choose repair in the left side of screen. Select your OS. Then When at the GUI select system restore. Choose a date before all this happened.

Answer:Internet works in vista only in safe mode and not normal mode

My first suggestion would be to get into msconfig and uncheck as much as you can in the startup tab. See if you can then use IE or whichever browser you use. If it works, then slowly add items back until you find the culprit.

My internet wont work unless I'm in 'Safe Mode With Network Support'. This just started 2 days. All other computers on my network are fine, except this one. Can anyone suggest anything?

I'm running Windows XP.

I've done countless virus scans and adware scans.

I got frustrated last time with hijack this, so I just checked off everything and clicked "Fix". That didnt work.

I managed to fix some things in the Event Viewer. Now I get Event 7031 and that is the only error I receive. Details -
"The Workstation Service Library service terminated unexpectedly. It has done this 397 time(s). The following corrective action will be taken in 3000 milliseconds: Restart the service.

For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp."
One time I thought I had it fixed, but like 10 min later it went back into safe mode.

Ran something called Win Sock XP fix which basically restored tcp/ip settings but that didnt work. That was a temporary fix. NOw I'm stuck without a clue.

Ran symantec a few times. Found a few viruses, but they got deleted quickly. Here's a list of viruses they found and fixed.

userint32.exe virus name W32.Allim
rdriv.sys virus name Trojan Horse
msaccrt.exe virus name W32.Allim
lanmany.exe virus name Backdoor.Staprew.B
aight.exe virus name Backdoor.Trojan

Does anyone have any reccommendations? Re-formatting isnt really an option.

Hello,

I'm running a Gateway NV Series and as of last night I have fallen victim to the problem that Windows 7 seems to be plagued with. My internet has completely stopped working, both Ethernet and Wireless. I have tried many of the fixes suggested in this forum and others, but none of them have worked. So I booted into safe mode with networking and low and behold, the wireless and Ethernet work just fine here.

Why is this?

I don't like to run the internet on safe mode, and I would to have my computer back working at normal capacity. How can I fix this?

Specs on my laptop are here:

Answer:No Internet in Normal Mode; Works in Safe Mode

Hi and Welcome to SF.

Your safe mode loads up with the bare essentials to get things working. Using builtin drivers i would think and no third party softwares. If your safe mode don't work, more than likely u have a system/hardware issue.

As for your normal mode, go into Device Manager, any noticable issues?

I've had this problem for the past two weeks now. I'm on Vista Home Premium connecting via wireless and the internet only works in safe mode.

In normal mode, there is a connection BUT I can't access any web browsers - I've tried Firefox, Firefox 3, IE 7 and Safari. Meanwhile, even though i can't access the browsers, my messengers ARE working and my programs can run internet updates so not sure what's going on.

I've run Avast, AVG anti-virus, AVG anti-spyware, Spybot, Ad-aware and Smitfraudfix. I also ran Kapersky Online virus scanner but it came up with nothing. The only thing that did come up with results was AVG anti spyware with something called "downloader.psyme.fc" - which i've deleted. I did a system restore which worked but windows automatically updated itself and it stopped working again after I restarted. Since i've made quite so many changes, I don't have any restore points older than a week.

I've searched through the forum for similar problems but can't quite seem to see anything exactly like mine.

I've run two hijack logs since i didn't know which to include - one in safe mode and the other in normal mode.

There is no malicious software.I have gone through Malwarebytes,TDSSKiller,Kaspersky, etc.Nothing was found.
It doesn't entirely freeze.I can move the cursor which usually is a blue circle.Sometimes more things like highlight icons w/ the cursor or the clock keeps going.
Sometimes when I press ctrl+alt+del and open task manager, the programs that didn't open when I clicked on them will open up.Most times pressing ctrl+alt+del does nothing though.
It works fine in Safe Mode and Safe Mode with Networking.I have disabled all start ups and every service except Microsoft ones and restarted in Normal mode.Still the same problem.
I used checkdisk and it said nothing is wrong.
There are random times where it works fine.No specific time of day.It just happens. Most times it is this way though.

Answer:Laptop only works in safe mode.Hangs w/ blue circle in Normal mode.

Did you disable the startup items and services in Safe Mode, and then restart in normal mode?

Essentially what you are trying to do is a Clean Boot, this has to be performed in normal mode.

***This is a diagnotic tool for Windows Vista, Windows 7, and Windows 8.  This will not repair your computer, but it may point to where the problem lies so that a repair can be made.***

Warning:  Disabling items in Services or Startup may leave your anitivius disabled until the process is ended.  For this reason I would suggest that you perform this process off line.

Step 1

(1)  Click on the Start orb , then type msconfig.exe in the Search programs and files box.

(2)  When msconfig is seen in the pane above the search box and under Programs, right click on it, then click on Run as administrator.

If you are prompted for an administrator password or for confirmation, you should enter the password or provide confirmation.

Step 2

(1)  Click on the General tab.

(2)  Click the Selective startup option.

(3)  Remove the check mark in the Load startup items  check box.

Step 3

(1)  Click on the Services tab.

(2)  Place a check mark in the Hide all Microsoft services check box, this will remove the Microsoft Services from the list but will still be running.

Many MSE users running Vista (but not all) suffered black screen after login following installation of Update for Microsoft Security Essentials - 4.9.218.0 (KB3140527), released about a month ago. In fact there is already a thread here: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/606422/windows-vista-x64-bksod-after-login-or-no-access-in-normal-mode-suspect-mse/. The posters there disabled MSE 4.9 in Safe Mode by unticking a brand-new setting in the UI (Administrator > Turn on this app). Another method of escaping this situation would be to restore your system to a point before the update was installed, then hide the update in Windows Update. That would allow you to resume using MSE 4.8 if you wish.

I am extremely curious why this happens to many but not all MSE users running Vista. If more advanced forum members ask you for further information, I hope you will cooperate. Above all, I wonder if any other security software with real-time protection is installed (or perhaps improperly uninstalled)? Of course there is a possibility that your issue is something else...

When i enter windows in normal mode it will not let me connect to the internet explorer. But i do play an online game called World of Warcraft and it has no problem connecting me in game to the servers. Then i can enter windows under safe mode with networking and the internet explorer works fine. I went through all the steps of malware cleansing and will attach a hijacking log that i had scanned. Was just wondering what was keeping me from the internet explorer on regular windows.

Answer:IE only works in safe mode, but can connect to games online in normal mode

could be some addons on IE. try IE without addons or another browser. also make sure your firewall is off when troubleshooting.

Hi All: I've been smashing my head against the wall with this one. I have uninstalled ALL unnecessary applications I could find. Basically all that is left is Windows XP, Drivers and Patches in Add/Remove Programs. I have removed the wireless driver, downloaded a newer one and installed it, still nothing. I have tried it using no Wireless Security on the AP, and also using WPA, and wouldn't work with either in Normal Mode, but worked with both in Safe Mode. I ran a virus and spyware check (before uninstalling Norton), and it came out clean. The weirest thing is, sometimes it does connect and get an IP in Normal Mode, but when I run a ping to my local gateway, half the packets are lost (timeout), and the ones that do reply I see a response time ranging from 2ms to 5000ms with no other traffic. I have no idea what can be causing this. Any help would be greatly appreciated. If all else fails, I will resort to formatting it and installing WinXP from scratch, since I doubt it's hardware.

Answer:BSOD when trying to boot in normal mode, safe mode works fine

You may need to run SFC up to 3 times for it to have a chance to repair all files.

If it won't then you can consider a Repair Install.

However be aware that factory preinstalled Win7 is one of the worst possible installs of Win7 one can have, larded with bloatware and duplicate utilties that intefere with better versions built into Win7. So I would strongly consider doing the vastly superior Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7.

If you decide to try to repair you can also capture the BSOD file and post it up for one of our BSOD analysts as shown here: Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) Posting Instructions - Windows 7 Forums

I am not able to connect to any webpages in normal mode, even after restarting i still have the same problem [However it works in safe mode with networking]. The network connections show that it is connected and the signal strength is excellent. I then have to keep restarting the laptop like 3 to 4 times and it works. Its kind of frustrating to keep doing this all the time and besides i am scared by restarting the laptop so many time can harm it.

What firewall / security suite or anti-virus do you currently have on the PC - or you have ever had on the PC in the past - any trial ware - like Norton, kaspersky or Mcafee or any free security suites like zonealarm, AVG , Webroot etc

Lenovo will also come with a trial ware program - cant remember which
I would also remove AVG 2013 - using the removal tool - see below

have a read here and post back as much info as possible
Pre-posting Requirements - for both Wired and Wireless Connectivity Issues

Normally are you using wireless - and in safe mode with networking - are you still talking wireless

can you connect to the router with a cable and if so does that work in normal mode ?

Lets see an ipconfig /all in both normal and safemode with networking - make sure you also tell us which is which when you post

Not sure exactly what happened but couple days ago the laptop started to hang up or freeze when I tried to run any application, such as a browser, control panel, and even task manager. If I need to turn it off I have to hold the power button which I know is not good but otherwise I would not be able to reboot. If I go into safe mode I can use the computer somewhat sluggish but I can at least open up programs and even get on the internet. I cannot do system restore as this had been turned off. I had a conflicting driver issue that I installed, but that has not helped, I dont know what else to do. Please help this is my only computer.

Everytime i open my pc up in normal mode, it seems to restart itself within a few seconds to a few minutes, It tends to happen when i open up a program like Chrome. I',m currently on safe mode with networking and have done registry cleaners, updated video card drivers and looked for viruses, yet nothing has seemed wrong, I've also done a system restore to when my pc was working fine, but it still was happening, I saw on another post here that i should post my msinfo32 so here you go, Thanks.

Answer:BSOD only occurs in normal mode, Works fine on safe mode.

Just tried opening in normal mode again, got a blue screen within 2 minutes. Didn't open chrome, only programs i had opened was mozilla firefox, and startup programs

Hi

I have this problem and do not know how to solve it. For some time and up to now I can?t enter in Safe Mode. I can login normally in normal mode, but when I restart and boot in Safe Mode (safe mode, safe mode with networking, or safe mode with command prompt, it is the same), few seconds after appearing in the login screen, Windows freezes. I can type the password + Enter fast and then I see the desktop, but it just then freezes, or I can type slowly and it will freeze during typing, or do nothing and wait in login/lock screen and it will freeze after few seconds...

I have made chkdsk c: /f /r at boot, all is ok!, I have done from admin command prompt sfc /scannow and all dism scan check and restore, everything is ok...I am desesperate as I need to make some tasks from safe mode (clean uninstallations, or simply to have it available in case of problem in normal mode!), and I can?t use it at all!

I have win10 pro with last updates.

Please could you point me to some solution or hint? Thanks a lot!

Win 7 Normal Mode won't start, will go past Starting up Screen and just hit a Black screen and will hit a Crash Dump (blue error screen)..... I can boot into safe mode fine and I have fun CHKSDK and after a reboot it fixed a few problems but I hit the same Crash Dump Screen. I have also made sure my whole pc is all clean and connected, no corroding parts etc etc, made sure my pci-e slot is default etc etc, no luck at all...

Its a new installation and worked fine last night and early this morning after separate boots. But as soon as I booted this afternoon it wouldn't load and would hit the blue error crash dump screen....

So any suggestions?

Just last night My main HDD died also which is why I had to use my secondary HDD as my main....

Several scans have been preformed before posting this, it was infected with zeroaccess rootkit, which I can no longer see traces of. Here is whats been done so far, this is over a remote connection to this pc so I want to make sure if possible, that everything looks ok before booting back into normal mode to test.
ran TDDSkiller, rogue killer, tweaking.com tool. Rogue Killer found lots of traces of zeroaccess, ran tdds in normal mode, as well as adw. Not 100% sure but I believe Hitman pro and Malwarebytes was run as well, Bit Defender endpoint is installed as well. I do not have the log files for them, so we will start from scratch.

Recently purchased this all in one PC on second hand. It initially had Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit Japanese OS. I installed Windows 7 Ultimate 32 bit English OS after purchasing and installed the Drivers from the DVD which came along with the PC. Ran windows update till date. But got BSOD many times. Thinking of Hard drive issue, changed the hard disk first time with another used one and next time with newly purchased one.

All the time installed Windows 7 Ultimate 32 bit English OS and installed the Drivers from the DVD which came along with the PC. Ran windows update till date. But in all 3 hard disks getting the BSOD error.

Installed Microsoft Security Essentials each time and checked for virus. Ran Dell Diagnostics downloaded from Dell website and found no issues.

Got "Session "Microsoft Security Client OOBE" stopped due to the following error: 0xC000000D" error on Event viewer many times. After searching some forums deleted MSE.

Ran the SF diagnotic utility and uploading the file for your reference.

Please help me to overcome this issue.

Answer:BSOD in Normal mode but works fine in Safe mode

Attachment in the first thread gauti2009.zip is SF Diagnostic Tool run in Safe mode.
Attachment in the current thread SF_02-09-2013.rar is SF Diagnostic Tool run in Normal mode. (Somehow no BSOD during this short time, able to get the file and post it).

Hope this will help.

Hey guys, I seem to be having trouble, and I'm not terribly inclined with laptops and computers, mine is an HP G62 laptop, and that's about as far as I know about it. The other day I went to use it, opened it up, I had 3 tabs open (google chrome), and I tried to open a new tab. All new tabs were freezing, and my itunes had frozen as well. I tried closing the laptop, hoping it would go into sleep mode, but it didn't, it stayed running. I reopened it and the screen stayed off, so I did a hard reset (holding the power button to turn it off) and started it back up. I started it in normal mode, and logged on, but after loading from the log on screen, it went to a black screen with just the cursor, and stayed there. I did another hard reset, and started it in safe mode, and now this is how I'm currently running. I've tried disabling the display drivers and restarting, that worked momentarily, but froze shortly after. Next, I tried a system restore, which did absolutely nothing, and then I ran chkdsk and, again, nothing. After all this, I decided to try uninstalling the display drivers, which, once again, did nothing. This seems to be all the info I have gathered from online, and through friends' help, there seems to be nothing left to do that may fix this problem. Anyone have any idea on where to go from here?

Answer:Black Screen in Normal Mode. Only Safe Mode Works.

Hello ericberard,

You?re having a problem with the computer going to a black screen.

First test the hardware.

Turn off the computer

As you power it back on, tap the F2 key. This will load hardware diagnostics.

Once the screen loads run the startup test.

If this is windows 7 and the startup test pass.

Power back off the computer.

As you power it back on, tap the F8 key. This will load Advanced Boot Options.

Select Last Known Good Configuration.

This will take the system back to when everything was working correctly.

Clicking the White Kudos star on the left is a way to say Thanks!

Let me know how everything goes.

Have a good day.

Hello there,
I really need help on this one. When I switched on my laptop ( Hp windows 7) , it started as usual and it screened the message " starting windows" as usual , after starting I was expecting the log on screen to come. But there it was, just a black screen while the standard windows tune was heard, there was NO log on screen. It was just black.
Then I went into safe mode with networking. And that's all how it works now.

Ive been having this problem for a few days now, when I start the computer, after a few minutes,no matter what I am doing or if I am not doing anything,it will freeze, the mouse and keyboard wont work and the clock stops, the 2 little monitors that show my internet connection stop flashing too...sometimes,it freezes for a few seconds and then works, and the same thing happens over and over again until it finally freezes forever...other times,it just freezes once and stays there,Ive waited hours for it to work and nothing...

the only solution is to shut down using the button, and I know that is not a good thing to do..I did a system restore,I restored it to a day before the problem started, but when it restarted to finish the restore it froze again and the restore wasnt completed,I had to shut it down pressing the button and I realized later that I lost all the restore points I had...

in all these days,Ive done everything we are supposed to do,Ive had problems with other computers,so Im used to it,this computer is about a year old and these are the specs:

AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual-Core 4000+
2.00 GB ram
400GB HD
NVIDIA GeForce 6150 LE
AVG Antivirus

You might look through Add/Remove programs for installs with dates in that range.

Also, look in the STARTUP group.

OK, bit of a puzzle here. I work as a hardware/network technician, but I've never run into this problem before. System is running XP Pro SP2. I have eliminated hardware as an issue. Network card is set to pull a DHCP address from my firewall/router, just like all the other systems. In normal mode, the network connection has a splat on it, saying that it has limited or no connectivity. It shows an IP addy of 169.x.x.x instead of an address from the assigned scope. If I go to a command prompt and try to release/renew, it keeps coming back with a 169.x.x.x addy. In safe mode w/ networking, everything works fine. I can browse the network, get to the internet, etc. The network connection is correctly assigned an addy from the DHCP pool, and everything looks great.

I have used msconfig to disable all startup items as well as all of the non-Microsoft services, but it hasn't made a difference. I have tried using netsh to reset the TCP/IP stack and winsock = no change. I am currently scanning for spyware at ewido.com, but at this point it has mostly found cookies. There is an ActiveX plugin called Downloader.Zlob as well, but it hasn't finished scanning yet, so I don't know if it will find anything else.

I'm almost to the point of running a windows repair from CD just to reset everything, but at this point I'm not sure if anything short of a full reload will work. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi palad and Welcome to MajorGeeks,
I'm no network guru but it sounds like you have run through most of the troubleshooting steps.
Any new programs or updates added that may have affected the comp? Try uninstall and reinstall.
Any indications in the system logs?
Someone else may have some other options for you.

If you suspect malware, go through this procedure - http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=35407
and post the requested logs. The guys in Malware can fix you up if you do have something.

Hi there to who ever may be reading.

First of all thanks for taking a look at my issue, the problem as follows :

It shuts down (ie turns off, need to manually press the power button to boot up again) when getting to windows xp desktop.

what i have tried so far:
complete reformat windows xp home

complete reformat windows xp pro

taken the battery out of the motherboard for 30 secs then putting it back in(sometimes this works and it did for a while inabling me to install some softwarelike mobo drivers then after
reboot the problem persisted)

Following that i have tried different batterys and no battery at all each not solving the issue

started in safe mode and installed service pack 3

cleaned processor and heat sink

tried different psu

tried different hard drive (with fresh install)

I originally thought it would be a power issue but i have left it on overnight in safe mode as a test and it never shut down. It only seems to shut down in normal mode! i thought it might be a software issue but i have reinstalled it with different discs and different versions.

I dont think it is a hardware issue as it doesnt turn off when in safe mode, but then i dont think its a software issue because of the multiple clean installs that i have done. So i really dont know.

Please, sombody put me out of my misery. . . . What is wrong with my computer!

Answer:Help Please : Windows shuts down in normal mode, but works in safe mode.

I started having said problem during virus removal.
I had removed multiple virus via malware, SAS, aSquare, combofix, and, I could not connect to any websites.
Via my wireless connection, windows said my signal strength was good and it was connected to the wireless network.
I tried pinging different websites like yahoo.com, google.com, etc and all my requests timed out.

So I decided to trouble shoot.
Booting into safe mode w/ networking worked fine. I was able to ping and connect to websites via Internet Explorer.
I ran SpybotS&D, and it removed a win32.agent and some sort of malware that had firewall in the name... forgot exactly what it was, and I don't have the log on hand.
Anyways, after this removal I tried again to ping website like yahoo.com, google.com, etc, and the ping worked fine.
However, I still could not connect to any websites via Internet Explorer. I tried reinstalling IE, but its the same story.
During this whole process, I have been able to use Internet Explorer succesfully only in safe mode.

Any ideas? I doubt it is a virus directly causing my problems. It's had a thorough cleaning. Maybe some left over wreckage?
I doubt its a firewall issue. CA's personal firewall is installed on the machine. I know CA antivirus is running in safe mode, I'm not so sure if the firewall does or not. I'm assuming it does.

Answer:Can't browse in normal mode, works fine in safe mode.

Hello,You should not browse in Safe Mode because your security programs do not function in safe mode which means that more malware finds its way onto your computer. This issue is related to the issue you have posted here: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/240716/sdra64exe-uacinitdll-fakealert-vundo/ Because you have this log posted, you should NOT make further changes to your computer (install/uninstall programs, use special fix tools, delete files, edit the registry, etc) unless advised by a HJT Team member, nor should you ask for help elsewhere. Doing so can result in system changes which may not show in the log you already posted. Further, any modifications you make on your own may cause confusion for the helper assisting you and could complicate the malware removal process which would extend the time it takes to clean your computer. From this point on the HJT Team should be the only members that you take advice from, until they have verified your log as clean. Please be patient. It may take a while to get a response because the HJT Team members are EXTREMELY busy working logs posted before yours. They are volunteers who will help you out as soon as possible. Once you have made your post and are waiting, please DO NOT make another reply until it has been responded to by a member of the HJT Team. Generally the staff checks the forum for postings that have 0 replies as this makes it easier for them to identify those who have not been helped. If you post another response ... Read more

i have mozilla firefox 3 and yesterday, i did a system restore because my computer was not working, you know, the usual viruses etc. system restore has made my computer normal again except for some problems.

first, a message popped up every time i logged into my account: "one of the libraries needed to run this application could not be found." i'm not sure what application it was referring to! mozilla firefox is not working, every time i open it, it says the connection is interrupted. internet explorer also does not work but msn does work, so i am connected to the internet. mozilla does work in safe mode though. i've turned firewalls off as well. also, my trend micro internet security doesn't work, i can't open it, so i removed it frm my pc and installed avg free 8.

please, i'm not that great with computers so any help will be REALLY APPRECIATED!

I have a Toshiba A135-S4467 laptop that would freeze on the windows load screen so I replaced the hard drive after several attempts at formatting and reloading that were unsuccessful. I put in the new hard drive and completely installed windows but it still freezes at load up, I did get it to start a couple times but the CPU would peg at 100% and would freeze up after about 20 seconds. It will however start and run in safe mode.

All seems fine in Safe Mode.

Buttons freeze when I'm in Normal Mode. I left the computer on yesterday while i was out and it worked in Normal mode when I got home but not completely and I can't duplicate it.

So many things are wrong. Restore points were removed. Printer is off the network (Device manager shows yellow warning sign.)
Superfetch isn't running.
Mouse cursor bounces around when typing. I read I need to fix tapping but printer needs to be on network but I can't get it back on the network. Printer spool won't start.

Before coming here, I've run startup repair, scf /scannow, Combofix (not that I learned anything or that it fixed anything.) Malwarebytes, Norton scan, Trendmicro scan

I've tried msconfig no services but Microsoft, no startup items.

Not making any progress.

I was having a hard time using your link to FRST64. I kept being redirected to the home page.

Thanks so much for helping. Hope I did everything properly

Here's the situation: my daughter and I open her computer to clean it and have a look at the video card. We pull the card blow out the dust and reinsert it. We also pull one of two memory cards (to see what's in there) blow out the dust and reset that.

Now hit start button: Windows begins to boot, it finds the drives, then we see the Windows screen - the three bars dance across their track - but we get a black screen that says: Sorry, We apologize Windows failed to start. There may have been hardware or software changes blah blah blah...then it asks if I want to start in Safe Mode, Safe Mode with Networking, or Normal Mode.

Safe Mode works just fine. No issues using any hardware or software.

But if I try to start normally, it quickly tries to reboot, shutting down the video output (the monitor goes into no signal - energy saving mode) then the process start a new.

We made no changes! We opened it back up and made sure all the cables and connections were secure. But no luck.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Answer:[SOLVED] Safe Mode Works but not Normal Mode?

Hi yustr
It could be that something has happened to your video card. In Safe Mode Windows doesn't use the video card but uses the onboard graphics. Have you got another video card that you could try?

Greetings.
As the headline above says i have this problem for few days now, and still can't solve it.
First day when it happened it turned off only once, and after that i turned it on normally and it worked fine.
Second day it happened few times, but i managed to "make it through".
But today it is impossible, whenever i want to go on Normal Mode it turns off, and i am writing this in safe mode with networking option.
I asked my friend on the phone about it (not really useful when you're asking for help on the phone), he told me to try to to turn off some startup programs in System Configuration Utility, so i removed some and i left only my anti-virus program, some nVidia thing, probably a driver i don't know, and some win32.dll file ,that is pretty much important i think. I even tried to restore my system backing it few days backwards and both of these options worked! - for 30 minutes or so, until it turned off again.
I really don't know what else can i do.
I am well acquainted with a bit more than computer basics, but something really advanced has yet to be learned.
So please, help me solve this, i can't think of anything else, the only thing i am sure is that this problem is not a hardware problem.
The last option for me is reinstalling windows, but if you can help that it won't come to that.

Answer:My PC turns off in Normal Mode but works in Safe Mode

Hi Majestic616, welcome to the forums.

To be honest, it does sound suspiciously like malware..especially the win32.dll listing in msconfig. Your restore point is most probably infected too, hence why the problems reoccur after using system restore.

Your best option is to follow the instructions in the link below:

In Safe Mode go to Start/Run and type chkdsk C: /R and press enter. In the Command Prompt type a Y for Yes and restart your computer. Check Disk will run at the next bootup.
You can also do a Clean Boot. See if that helps.

Hello, I'm trying to help a friend whose computer (OS Vista Home Basic with SP1) has been having a lot of trouble, and it's getting worse.
Their computer can only start in Safe Mode, trying regular mode just makes the screen go black, and it crashes. He can't download hijack this while in Safe Mode.\

I tried having him run a scan with BlueScreenview, but nothing is showing up, here's a screenshot of that in case it helps:

HJT is an outdated malware-removal tool...your suggestion to run it implies the possibility of system infection.

Is that correct? Have you run any scans for malware from safe mode?

Whenever I try to startup in a normal mode, it always restarts. The windows log icon just appears then restarts again and again, until I boot to safe mode. (safe mode with networking also works)

I think my PC is infected
however, i cannot go on with the procedure in the sticky thread because it requires the Msconfig to be set for Normal Startup mode.

what should I do?

I've cleaned the registry through CCleaner and also tried system restore but nothing worked.

Please follow the instructions in the below link and attach the requested logs when you finish these instructions.

READ & RUN ME FIRST. Malware Removal Guide

If something does not run, write down the info to explain to us later but keep on going.

Do not assume that because one step does not work that they all will not.
Notes:
If you run into problems trying to run the READ & RUN ME or any of the scans in normal boot mode. You can run steps in safe boot mode but make sure you tell us what you did later when you post logs. See the below if you do not know how to boot in safe mode:

Starting your computer in Safe mode

If you have problems downloading on the problem PC, download the tools on another PC and burn to a CD. Then copy them to the problem PC. You will have to skip getting updates if (and only if) your internet connection does not work. Yes you could use a flash drive too but flash drives are writeable and infections can spread to them.

I just did a clean re-install of Vista x64 on a new hard drive (old drive crashed). Here's the problem:

Using my ISP (Roadrunner Carolinas) speed test site; I get around 200 to 400 kbps download speeds using IE in normal mode. If I boot to Safe Mode, I get around 3500 to 4500 kbps, which is what it should be (this is what I used to get in normal mode before I re-installed Vista).

Running the same speed test with Firefox, I get around 1500 to 2000 kbps in normal mode, but if I try to download a file it transfers at only the 200 to 400 kbsp rate (if I'm lucky).

Here's more detail about the system and what I've done so far:

Installed all updates including SP2.
Using Windows Firewall, no anti-virus.
Updated network drivers directly from NVidia (Chipset is nForce750i)
Updated graphics card drivers directly from NVidia
Disabled all LAN protocols except for Client for Microsoft Networks and IPv4
Connected via ethernet cable directly to cable modem, no router.
I've deliberately refrained from loading anything but the basics until I can get this sorted out.

This really the second clean install I've done in 24 hrs. After the first one, I upgraded and added a lot of software and add-ons before I figured out the connection problem; so I decided the easiest fix would be to re-format and start over, checking each step to see what caused the slow-down. Unfortunately once I did the second clean install I tested right away and I had the connection problem from the get-go. Since then... Read more

Hi all, my laptop has been acting crazy the past couple of days. First of all, I was watching a movie on it and it just shut down. when I tried restarting it in normal mode i would get to the welcome symbol after what seemed an eternity of loading, but then the screen just went black. when I opened in safe mode with networking, everything was fine. So then I went to msconfig and unchecked the two items i was allowed to. rebooted the system and I could get into normal mode again.

So the problem now is that normal mode is acting like safe mode meaning that the bottom toolbar looks the same as in safe mode as well as any of the other open windows. also, after i tried restarting it again, i get this dialogue when I try to connect to my wifi " the dependency service or group failed to start.".

thanks for any help.

Hi, this is my first post on SevenForums.

My internet speed is really slow. I'm lucky if I can reach 1Mbps when I start up Normally. However, when I start up in Safe Mode with Networking I can reach 12Mbps.

The computer is fairly old (8/9 years old maybe) and I've only just upgraded from XP to Windows 7 Ultimate 32bit. When I was running XP I connected to my router using a Linksys USB wireless network adapter. After upgrading to Windows 7 I couldn't use the Linksys anymore as I couldn't find any drivers so I installed a Belkin Desktop PCI Card F5D5000. I managed to connect to the internet straight away and this is when I first noticed the slow speed. I've updated the drivers directly from the Belkin site but it hasn't improved the speed .

I've tried connecting to the same router using WiFi on a laptop and the internet speed is fine (14Mbps). I contacted my ISP Talk Talk and asked them to test the connection but they didn't find any faults with either the line or hardware.

I've also tried switching off my Anti-Virus program but this doesn't make a difference either.

Could anything else be slowing the internet down? Any ideas would greatly appreciated.

Dave

Answer:Very slow internet in normal mode but fast in Safe mode

Hi Dave, and welcome to SevenForums!

I'm not an expert in this area but I suggest you try a Clean Boot as next step. You disable all non-MS services and reboot. If that works you can enable one service at a time to find out if it's a specific service that is causing the slow Internet.
How to perform a clean boot in Windows
Clean Boot assumes the problem is not with Windows itself but a 3rd party product or conflict, while Safe Mode loads minimum necessary drivers etc and without any start up programs.

It could also be caused by malware, that in Safe Mode isn't allowed to start during normal autostart procedures. So scan with a couple of good antivirus/antimalware products, for example Malwarebytes | Free Anti-Malware & Internet Security Software

My computer wouldn't boot past advanced options menu for a quite a while. So I was messing around in safe mode running anti virus software an it booted normally finally . But after that I went into add/remove programs and got rid of some stuff and I'm not sure if the internet was working before I did that because I did it right when the computer booted up again. However it does work in safe mode

Hey all, I have a massive problem with my internet connection, but first..the backstory..

I got a piece of malware through a bad download (i believe) which gave me Antivirus system PRO, I'm sure some of you have heard of it. It hijacked my comp, wouldn't let me open any programs, the internet, etc. Real nasty.

I went through safe mode and took it out manually, I believe I got it all, and now, everything in normal mode seems to be working okay, except the internet.

I have full connectivity while in normal mode, strong signal. However, IE will not open up any web page, RSS feeds arn't coming in, etc. HOWEVER, in safe mode, IE is a beauty..works just fine, any page quickly and easily.

I've tried a few things thus far,

ipconfig comes back as media "disconnected"
tried sfc scannow, didn't help anything.
tried netsh winsock reset, and another netsh command, can't remember which one...nadda.
ipconfig refresh and renew didn't work, probably because everything is disconnected

I'm out of ideas! Anyone, please help if you can! I'm a student going into finals, and things arn't looking too hot not having my comp in good form.

Thank you for reading, and I would appreciate any kind of help. I've visited this site before, I know you guys are good!

I have a two laptop a dell inspiron core i5 and an asus laptop. I have a problem on my dell laptop, it is having a hard time connecting to the internet. I have the right ssid and password but it takes too long/slow to connect compare to the asus laptop.

I read that using 'hijack this' would help solve the problem, but I don't know how to use nor analyze it.

I'm using windows 7 64-bit operating system with internet explorer 11, and Firefox. I can use my browsers while in safe mode to upload / download information. However, after starting windows normally the browsers no longer work, that is, when I start IE I get the "This page cannot be displayed" message even though the url is microsoft.com and Firefox give me the Mozilla Crash Reporter form. I've checked the internet connection in network and sharing and see the connection is made; also when I run MS Security Essentials it gets the current updates. So it seems that it is just a browser issue. Thought someone might have an idea of how I can get my browsers working again.

Hi all,

I've had this problem since yesterday (5/25/15) and haven't managed to find a fix for it yet. The issue is that although I have internet access--and Google even boots up how it normally would--I am unable to access websites. I am able to search perfectly fine, but the connections "time out" and do not connect. When I decided to troubleshoot, I received "-website name- is online, but network is unable to connect". I am still able to access the internet on my phone and other devices.

Thank you for any and all help!

UPDATE: I now am unable to view the Google homepage on startup with Google Chrome.

I found bleepingcomputer.com in trying to find a fix for the Security Suite malware. I followed the instructions, and ran malwarebytes. The malware is gone, but now I have another problem: I cannot connect to the internet while running Windows in normal mode. I have tried to run it in safe mode with networking, and the connection works fine.

I also have another problem with random crashes and a BSOD (which I cannot fix nor find a cause for).

Please help! I appreciate any input.

Thanks!

Answer:internet in safe mode vs. normal mode

are you sure the virus is gone? Run a antivirus and let it fully scan. It sounds like one of the processes is causing this. It might be causing the BSOD as well. You could also try to do a system restore if you have a restore point from before the problem started

Run avg free antivirus or avira free antivirus and if they dont pick up anything try spybot. I cant believe that the malware is completely gone and the connection not work while it is working in safe mode.

Hello all and thank you for taking the time to read and/or answer this question.

I've seen a few other topics like mine, but nothing that is the same. Here's what is going on: My friends computer has a virus, windows antivirus pro, and this virus has removed all items from the visible computer desktop. It loads the background and nothing else. No icons, no start menu, nothing. I CAN Ctrl + Alt + Del into task manager, HOWEVER, it won't let me run any programs through it. It says something like: This program failed to initialize, try reinstalling if the problem persists. If I boot into Safe Mode, the same thing happens. Can't see anything besides a black screen, I can open task manager, but I can't run any programs from it. Please help. My friend lost the Windows XP disk, so we can't reinstall. Thank you for your time and help.

Sincerely,

After removing a number of infections using malwarebytes, spywarebot and main system PCTools my XP window with icons freezes either immediately or eventually. Tried going to setup on initial boot and putting the system back into default mode ameliorates the problem but eventually in comes back within a half hour or so.

Answer:Windows XP works in safe mode freezes in normal

If the computer is running without freezing in "Safe Mode" but freezing in normal windows, you could try to perform a "Clean Boot." Hi, I am getting a BSOD every time I boot up in normal mode.  If I boot into Safe Mode, I can run forever.  I am not sure what could be causing it.  I tried reinstalling my video driver.  I also ran memory diagnostics, and it reported that everything was fine.
Any ideas?  I captured the BSOD log and will paste it below to see if that can help pinpoint the problem.  Almost every time I see the PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA string.  I have no idea what that could mean.  Thanks in advance for any help.  I desperately need to get my computer back on its feet.  Thanks again.

Answer:BSOD on normal boot, safe mode works fine

Since this isn't occurring in Safe Mode I would suggest running a Clean Boot to see if this is a problem with a Service or a startup item.  You will know if it is a Service after you reboot in step 3b, if it is a service this problem will not reoccur in normal mode.

(2)  Place a check mark in the Hide all Microsoft services check box, this will remove the Microsoft Services ... Read more

Hi,
I've got a problem with my G73 which is driving me nuts and would appreciate any advice.
The problem, - My son was playing on the PC, came and found me and said "i pressed shift & escape and the screen went blank" I think he was trying to use alt + tab and got confused.
SO,
1) rebooted PC, post screen ok, windows loading screen ok, screen then goes blank but start up noises are all there.
2) Rebooted into safe mode, boots into windows with no problem. (first thought's graphics driver has corrupted)
3) Uninstall graphics card, delete driver, delete nvidia software, download new fresh drivers.
4) Reboot machine, re-enable graphics card, install new drivers reboot. BUT as the machine reboots we are back to line 2 in terms
of sypmtoms.
5)Plug laptop into an external display via HDMI, and the screen displays on the monitor but not on the laptop screen.
6) Decide to go for a reformat of hard drive and clean install of windows just in case there are old / corrupted drivers
hanging about.
7) As soon as the nvidia drivers are applied we are back to the same symptoms seen at 2 (still works via external monitor)
The laptop screen is working (as seen by safe mode display)
The card & drivers are working as proved by the External monitor working.
Does anybody out there have any idea what the hell might be going on ?
Any help greatly appreciated.
Cheers Jamie

Answer:AsusG73 blank screen in normal, works in safe mode

I would suspect that you have somehow set the resolution to one that is higher than the monitor can display. Safe mode only loads the basic Windows drivers As it works in safe mode it can only be a driver issue. Boot in safe mode then set the resolution to a low spec ie 800 x 600 and then boot up as normal. It should work and allow you to increase the reslution until you lose the display. That should be OK as it reverts after several seconds to the previous setting unless you click on Accept.
Another thought is to ask whether you have inadvertently selected the video output to an external monitor. There is usually one of the "Function Keys" that does this on a laptop.

Hi folks!

Unfortunately, my 2 year old pushed some buttons on my Lenovo B590 laptop and something isn't right. Upon start up, I get a black screen with a moving cursor. Ctrl+alt+del doesn't bring up the task manager.

I double checked the boot order in BIOS and that looks OK.

Restarting in Safe mode works.

I also updated the video drivers, and (strangely) I was able to restart in normal and everything looked fine. However, when I restarted again after that, I was back to the black screen in Normal.

I've been Googling all morning, and done what I've found. If anyone else has any other suggestions, I'd be grateful for them. And if you have any questions for me, please don't hesitate to ask.

Thanks!

Even in safe mode I have some problems. Internet explorer restarts or windows explorer.

I have already cleaned out the inside of my computer and the fan .

I have already formatted the C drive and re-installed Vista. What can the problem be?

Also it doesn't allow me to install Updates, it usually gets an error message saying something like Internet Module or Host was closed. When I start Windows normally I usually hear the computer loading a lot, especially if I try to install a program or watch a video. And it crashes when I'm doing too much activity or sometimes just when im not doing anything

My computer is 3 years old. I have 3 Primary drives , from what I saw , the C D and E. And I have 1 external hard drive which I have turned off.

Hello everyone,
My computer was working fine yesterday. This morning when I start it, it becomes unresponsive. The mouse works on the desktop, but nothing responds when I click them. I have restarted in safe mode, and everything seems to work. I looked under my system restore and all the restore points are gone. I ran MalwareBytes and SuperAntispyware just yesterday and neither detected anything and I have not installed or downloaded within the last few days.
I have tried running error-checking on C: drive, but it fails to run when I restart. It says "Cannot open volume for direct access. Autochk cannot run due to an error caused by a recently installed software package." It then says to use system restore, which I cant because all points are missing. The only thing I have installed in the last week was Adobe Photoshop CS4.
I ran CCleaner yesterday as well and I think something of photoshop was flagged for cleaning, and I let it clean it... However, I restored the changes today using the CCleaner restore file to see if it fixed it, but no change.

I just tried opening Photoshop in Safe Mode and got a message saying that Liscensing for the product has stopped working and requires my computer to be restarted before it can be launched.....Error: 148:3
I suspect this might have something to do with the problem...but no Adobe program is set to run on startup....so I'm not sure why that would be bogging it down. I cannot check Task Manager during normal startup t... Read more

Answer:Windows 7 slows/freezes on normal startup, works in Safe Mode

In Safe Mode you can call up MSCONFIG via Start/Run or WinKey-R, and see what's starting behind the scenes. Selectively turn off a few things at a time and see what happens. You can also go to installed updates in Control Panel/Programs and Features and sort by date to see what's new from MS.

Hello Everyone

A problem occured 2 days ago, my computer froze and I had to shut down manually (pressing and holding the power button). After I logged in, a few seconds later (perhaps 20-30 seconds) my computer frozed up again. The mouse cursor doesn't move and I can't get any response from the keyboard. The desktop just remains idle and unresponsive.

Whenever I log into Safe Mode (I'm using that right now to make this topic), everything works normal, no freezing or anything.

I don't have any type of Windows XP CD, so I won't be able to reinstall my OS but I was wondering if anyone had any advice where I can troubleshoot this problem. I'm using a Dell Dimension 2400 (yeah I  know it's quite old) with Windows XP SP3. Back in June 2014; I had to get another motherboard cause the previous one died and the graphics card stopped working a few weeks afterwards. Is it possible that a hardware driver is broken or corrupted? Any help would be greatly appreciated and thanks in advice.

my specs are:

Dell Dimension 2400
Windows XP Pro SP3
Maxtor 6L040J2 40GB
Intel ® Pentium 4  3.06 Ghz
Cosair 1GB DDR 400Mhz (x2)
Intel ® 82845G/GL/GE/PE/GV Graphics Controller
SoundMax Intergrated Digital Audio

Go into Safe Mode and uninstall the video card driver (if prompted DO NOT uninstall the device driver), reboot and let the video card install itself again.

As the title says.
After system 'Repair' safe mode works 'BLACK' screen at normal reboot.

Win XP media edition sp 2 dell dimension e520

Could not boot up today "Windows\system32\config\system" file corrupted or missing.

Went for System "repair" --only problem I noticed was Dell restoration disc doesn't have SP2 -- Repair seemed to go ok, but at the end, the reboot got as far as the Windows Splash screen and then went Black-- no curser or mouse either -- nothing.

Several reboots --same thing.

Reboot to safe mode and --Voila -- I'm in --Took 30-40 seconds to get past the Black screen but I'm in.
Next reboot -was safe mode with Networking and here I am

All data and settings intact.

Yea !!

several mre tries to reboot normally result in a 'Black' screen.
Thought it may be video drivers but search for updated ones found nothing.
Is it possible that the 'Repair' took me back a step and the video drivers are to advanced for the system now -- so a roll back may work??

Am able to back up everything --
A reformat and fresh install not out of the question -- just hate to spend the time setting everything up again. Would very much rather repair what I have if possible.

Home all night and will be playing around with this -- all idea's greatly appreciated.

Bob

Hi Zappafrank,

Since you are able to boot your computer into safe mode, back up your files ASAP just in case something else happens which can cause your files to be in-accessible. Boot the computer into the recovery console and try to fix the master boot record.

Hope everything works out well for you.

I recently had a bunch of adware on my computer, and it turned out i had a rootkit too, so i did an xp repair install to try to fix that. Ever since then the adware seems to be better, and according to AVG i don't have any threats anymore. However, I started getting Blue Screen of Death were the computer just crashes, pretty often. I used to get it occasionally before. Now it happens every time i start up the computer normally, right where it gets to the logon screen. I kind of think it might not be a hardware issue because it started happening frequently so suddenly, and i can still use safe mode without any problems. I've tried system restore, and changing the start up processes and services but that didn't really help. Also when i can logon, or when i go on safe mode, firefox just crashes sometimes, or becomes really unresponsive for a while. I tried reinstalling it but that didn't help. Can you please help me fix my computer? Here's log from safe mode if it might help:

I'm new here and in hopes of getting this resolved. I just installed the new Norton Systemworks 2005 and rebooted after installation. When the boot screen got up to the blue screen with the Windows XP logo before displaying the login names where you put in your password, it just stops. I restarted a few times and waiting a few more times thinking it may need to 'finish' installing. But each time gave the same results. Finally, I went in with 'Safe Mode' and got in with no problems. Tried again in normal mode after looking around for any obvious problems (none found)... back to square one. Tried again in 'Safe Mode with Networking' and it failed like normal mode so I suspected a networking problem??? The last thing I tried which made me mad is that I tried to uninstall Norton Systemworks in 'Safe Mode' and that failed!! Anyone in these forums know the cure? :dead:

Answer:Unable to get to login screen, works in Safe Mode but in Safe Mode w/ Networking

Just a thought

Safe-Mode
Start \ Run \ msconfig \ diagnostic startup
disable any services attached to your most recent install and restart
should get warning next boot about using msconfig, its ok
One key service that needs to be available is the installer service
Try the uninstall, if doesn't complete
Try the uninstall string in the registry only if you know what you are doing

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall

Under it you will see a list of installed programs. Some don?t show up as words but you can figure out what they are by looking at their values. What you are looking for is the uninstall string. Double click that key as if you were going to modify its value. Do a CTRL + C to copy and then exit the registry editor.

Go to START \ RUN and paste the uninstall sting and hit enter. This should launch the uninstall.

Just a thought though as I am not infront of a test system at the moment. You should research this a little further so you have a clear understanding of what you can and can't do with msconfig.

or simpler yet

Safe-Mode

Start \ Programs \ Access. \ System Tools \ System Restore

Select restore point prior to install of whats giving you the problem.

Again, Good Luck

PS If you try to install it again, turn of antivirus and other open programs etc..

Hi i have a problem using internet in the normal os state, it works great on safe mode

I have tryed uninstalling nic and reinstalling, disabling it, flushing dns, doing some netsh commands, ipconfig/release and renew but no luck and a thing other things,  i'm currently on safe mode right now

I been using ubuntu for a bit but i miss running steam games, if someone would be able to help me i would be thankful, i normally can solve my own problems but this one has me puzzled

I think it maybe be a dhcp connection problem but unsure

Answer:Internet on safe mode but not on normal

Maybe you have some malware that doesn't come on in Safe Mode, therefore it works fine there and not in normal mode.
Perhaps it's time to do a bit of malware scanning with programs like malwarebyes and superantispyware free versions (careful to not accept trial versions during installation).
