Ethernet to wireless adapter

Question: Ethernet to wireless adapter

I network an XP box and a 98 box via wired Ethernet. Currently, a DSL connection is shared via a Zoom modem with a built-in router (5651_X4_2_2) connected to a Linksys switch (EtherFast 10/100 5-Port Workgroup Switch EZXS55W).

Just bought a laptop with a wireless card installed and want to share Internet connection and files wirelessly as already done via wired Ethenet (between XP box and a 98 box). Laptop features VISTA Home Premium.

Instead of connecting the Laptop to the switch via a patch cable (to share DSL and files), thought maybe there's a type of Ethernet to wireless adapter product that simply plugs into a port on the switch that would in turn transfer a wireless signal to the laptop. Or not?

Thanks in advance.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Is there a point for getting something like this ( http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...ark=&IsFeedbackTab=true&Page=3#scrollFullInfo ) and connecting it via ethernet compared to a standard USB adapter? My room is a floor up and on the opposite side of the house of where the router is located.

I will try and make this a simple as possible. I have 2 laptops. The first is running Windows 7 ultimate and the other, Ubuntu 12.04. They are connected via Ethernet through a Linksys BEFSR81 router. Both computers have static Ethernet addresses. I have a wireless router and both computers use their own wireless adapters for an internet connection. The wireless router (BEC 7800TN R2) is not physically connected to the eth router. The wireless adapters are set to use DHCP. IPv6 is disabled on the Ethernet adapters.

Here's my issue:

Streaming video or transferring files from the Win7 to my linux machine is very slow or fails unless i disable the wireless adapter on the Win7 laptop. However, if I change my wireless profile to public, which has sharing disabled, then no shares will show up in samba on the Linux 'puter, although I can ping the other computer by IP.

I have tried using lmhosts on both computers but to no avail. I can ping the Linux computer from my windows machine by IP, but if i try to ping from the NetBios name, it shows that its going through the router and will fail depending on whether the wireless profile is set to public or home.

How do I configure Windows so that the wireless is used for internet access only? Is this a router config issue? I'm racking my brain on this one.

EDIT: Even when file sharing/streaming is not working, Synergy still works fine and I can share the mouse/keyboard no problem.

Answer:Network and Sharing is using Wireless adapter instead of ethernet

Hello and welcome Banqu0 mate it might seem over simplistic but how about a USB to USB cable and cut out the wifi stuff when transferring that data?
Am no expert with this anyway but something I would try

Windows XP SP2Abit NF7-s v2.0I'm trying to install my PCI wireless adapter: Linksys WMP11 v2.7I've installed it into my motherboard, but i can't install the driver for it. What I've noticed is that, in the device manager, the adapter is showing up as "Ethernet controller" rather than PCI wireless adapter, which is why I think I can't install the driver for it.any ideas?

Greetings,

We have Flatron N2311AZ all-in-one PCoIP zero clients. For several months we have been using an HP t5740e Thin Client as a kiosk in facility lunchrooms so employees could print their paystubs and check their employee account. We will be rolling out a SharePoint website soon that contains MBO data. Thing is, the MBO is different and needs to be private for each division around the world; not a problem, easy to do with security groups in Active Directory and SharePoint. However, this presents a problem: our kiosk Thin Clients are not joined to the domain and they are WIRELESS (there are no network drops where they are deployed), and joining them to the domain and using a generic account isn't too great for our scenario; it would be best to use a zero client and a dedicated VDI & separate user login for each division. Problem with this is that our Zero Clients do not have wireless capabilities, that is unless we take a very short Ethernet cable and plug it into a device that can connect them to the wireless network.

Cliff:
Need a device that will establish a connection to a configured wireless network and is directly connected to a zero client via CAT 5/e Ethernet cable.

Suggestions? Not looking for anything complicated or does more than it needs to. USB wireless adapters would be great, but these are zero clients so that won't work. Only way is to do it through the wired NIC port and somehow convert that into wireless connectivity.

Answer:Looking for simple Ethernet --> Wireless adapter for all-in-one Zero Client

all you need is a wireless bridge

Wasn't sure if this was supposed to go here or in networking, so I just put it here.

My family recently got a new desktop computer and my parents are putting it in my brothers room, which is near the opposite end of the house where the router and modem is. Should I just tell them to get some retartedly long Ethernet cord, or is there a good enough wireless adapter I could buy? I know direct connections are almost always better, but I don't think there is a store that sells long ethernet cords that stretch across my house, which is pretty big.

Answer:Solved: Ethernet Cable or Wireless Adapter?

It's easy enough to get an Ethernet cable up to 100 meters, and I'd guess that's long enough.
There are many factors that affect wireless reception, including the construction of your dwelling and the hardware you use, so I'd ask a mod to move this to the networking forum where you might get better help.

I am helping an 80 yr old lady with her laptop and is is possible that these parts on the motherboard could go out?
it is a dell inspiron n4110
I can use the SD card reader to install and a cd.

I look in device manager and network is not even listed. When I install the drivers the adapters cannot be found.
I have installed the chipset drivers and the usb 3.0 controller driver. An intel wireless adapter driver, also the realtec ethernet driver.

I looked in the bios and didnt find any setting to change. At this point I think the motherboard is the issue but I am not sure. Is there anything else I should do to try to fix this computer?

I'm pretty much a novice at doing this networking stuff, so I would be glad if I could get some help. I want to directly wire the router into my computer and bought a ethernet cable. I connected the cable to my router and computer and it doesn't work. Do I need a driver..I have reformatted my computer before and have installed the ethernet card again(or at least I think I did). Anybody have step by step information to get this to work? If so, please do tell. Thanks!

Answer:Help! How do you connect(with ethernet) a Wireless-B Broadband Adapter to a computer?

Please clarify. So you don't want to use the wireless feature of your router but rather use one on the wired ethernet ports on the router correct? So you've connected an Ethernet cable between one of your routers available ports and the Ethernet card installed in your PC correct?

I have been having BSOD problems ever since I bought this computer (almost a year ago)
Originally it would BSOD on File > Open but I worked around that.
Not It BSODs when ever I either boot it up with some type of internet adapter plugged in, or plug some sort of internet adapter after I turned it on. If I plug it in after it has be turned on, it will run for maybe 10-20 min, and then BSOD.
I was unable to retrieve a System Health Report
I received the error:

Nothing in the compressed file please try this method

We do need the DMP file as it contains the only record of the sequence of events leading up to the crash, what drivers were loaded, and what was responsible.

If you are overclocking STOP

You may be able to get the DMP files without crashing by booting into safe mode (F8) with networking.

this is for a Compaq-6000 laptop (HP brand) | Windows Vista-OS | attached to wireless connection through broadband connection | household uses VoIP / internet /cable-tv

Over course of 2-weeks, somehow my wireless connection stopped working. After POST and launch to desktop, the led on front the of laptop would change to blue, then WLAN notice would always pop-up in lower left coner of screen stating the the WLAN was connected.

I have no idea what I can do to get this back working. Laptop has built-in network adapter, and ethernet capabilities for both hard-wired and wireless. I use this laptop when the other PC is in-use. Having this option allows for multi-use of internet without having to waiting for the other PC to become free. At first I thought the drivers may have been outdated.

This is what I have done so far as I have run out of ideas as to how to resolve this issue.

1) Went to HP site and downloaded drivers for both Broadcom 802.11 b/g adapter and HP Wireless Assistant to my flash drive. Then downloaded those drivers to my laptop.

2) Went to microsoft because error message states that drivers could not be downloaded Code-31 for the adapter. This site based on the code states that Microsoft is aware of this issue, and this would not stop the network adapter and should operate properly. This is not the case. At present I can only connect to my wireless by hardwire cat-5 cable. This laptop has option for both, but now the led stays the color "amber" whe... Read more

We have generation 1 Thinkpad Carbon Touch X1 PCs running Windows 10 x64 Pro.  We get pretty good perfomance from either the (a) internal wireless or (b) external Plugable 3.0 (only works well with 2.0) ethernet adapter. To keep these PCs running well past their warranties, we would like to minimize power/heat.  Are there any specs to guide us as to whether (a) or (b) uses less power and generates less heat?

I have read/searched through most of the posts on this and various other sites and can't seem to find help with my problem. So hopefully someone will be able to help.

This morning when I woke up my computer worked properly. I then went to work, and when I turned it on I got the "blue screen of death." (I apologize for not posting the exact wording, but I did not think I would need it). I restarted the computer per the instructions, and it booted up. The computer, however, failed to connect to the wireless network. I noticed that the network icon was not in the taskbar. I then went to device manager and my integrated wireless adapter (Intel Pro/Wireless 2200BG) had a yellow triangle with an exclamation mark. I clicked on properties and under the 'general' tab the device status read:

This device cannot start (Code 10)
Click Troubleshoot to start the troubleshooter for this device

I then unistalled the controller and attempted to reinstall via the 'add hardware' program. I then received the message:

A problem occurred during hardware installation. Your device may not function properly

I then, believing it was a driver issue, downloaded the latest drivers from the intel website for my device on another computer. I uninstalled the controller again, and tried to install with the new drivers via a thumb drive. I received the same error message and the controller had the yellow triangle. When I clicked on properties this time I received the fol... Read more

Answer:Integrated Wireless Controller/PC Card Adapter/Ethernet port stopped working

Sounds like your motherboard is rapidly dying.

If the ethernet controller (or adapter) does not show under Network Adapters and is not in Other or Unknown devices with a warning or error message check in the BIOS (Setup) to see if it somehow got disabled. If it is already enabled, or doesn't show there, see my first paragraph.

When the ethernet controller is defective it can prevent other integrated and/or PCMCIA networking cards from working. When this happens sometimes a USB adapter will work.

So i was playing the game League of Legends, then at one point ping suddenly raised, checked my connection and it was on wireless, when i have my ethernet cable plugged in, at first i thought it was a cable problem or a modem, so i restarted my modem, but i used the same ethernet cable on a different laptop and it worked fine. Looked on the device manager to see what was up and the ethernet controller adapter wasn't there, only the wireless and Bluetooth was left. Looked for the newest realtek lan driver on the manufacturers website (lenovo) since i couldn't find one for windows 8.1, i downloaded the newest one from the windows 8 tab. Downloaded that, and when i tried to install it i get the error 'The realtek network controller was not found. If deep sleep mode is enabled please plug the cable. So after this i went into the BOIS to see if deep sleep was enable there and it wasn't, so for good measures i enabled it, restarted and disabled, restarted deep sleep. Tried to reinstall but the same error pops up. Tried the intel system identification utility to see if it could detect my network card, but it just says not detected. Now i don't really know why this suddenly happened, i play league all the time with no problems. help please :/

Our internet service provider updated our internet speed from 100mbps to 1000mbps for no extra cost. We had a Netgear n150 wireless router but it wouldn't support the 1000mbps speed. We were told we needed to upgrade to a r6300 netgear router which is capable of 1000mbps. Now were are told we need to install an ethernet PCI network card or a network adapter. I am told we have to have a 2.0 port for the network adapter to work. It would be cheaper for us to install the internal Ethernet PCI Card, my problem is I don't know which one to buy. I know we need one that is rated 1000mbps, are these universal or will we have to buy one that fits each brand of computer?

Takenote that you can't just replace the card with the same model number without complying with the indicated fru number. Doing so, will result to a error message at startup. This restriction is popularly called as the whitelist. An alternative to the desired wireless communication between your TV and your unit is to have ChromeCast. You might want to explore this since this is easier compared to the replacement of the wifi card.

Hello, I would love to ask for some help!
I've recently purchased the newer Dell XPS 13 9360 Non-touch (not the 2 in 1) and am having some trouble with using an external monitor. The screen (on the external monitor) keeps on flickering and has a very unstable connection.
I've searched and found that apparently lowering the power output of the WIFI network adapter can fix this problem.
The problem is that the current XPS's wifi adapter doesn't allow the power output to be changed. The previous fixes were geared towards intel wifi adapters.
The general power settings for the computers doesn't show wifi card power controls.

I have updated all the drivers for the computer including the wireless adapter. Still the options doesn't change.

Has anyone found a way to get a stable external monitor to work with the Killer Wireless Adapter cards?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Answer:XPS 13 9360 External Monitor Flicker with USB C - HDMI Adapter [Killer Wireless Adapter]

For what it's worth: For me (XPS 13 9360, QHD, i7, 16 GB, Killer WiFi), external screens are perfectly stable, even with wireless being on relatively high throughput load, albeit not high power (energy) load.
I am connecting both HDMI and DisplayPort displays, each with cheap native USB-C adapters (i.e. through Thunderbolt). I also have full success with a Dell DA200, through its built-in HDMI graphics adapter.

Hey,
I have two problems so i will explain the scenario then number out the issue. I had a new hard drive installed, when i booted the laptop, it worked well. The wifi in my area is very low so I was told I can use a wireless adpter to "boost" the signal strength received. I was given a Encore ENUWI-N3 Wireless Adapter to use. I installed the utility program from the official website and the computer still did not recognise the device, so I deleted the program. I then lost connection to the internet, and at the time i thought the wifi can dropped (i later realised that was not the case since my phone's wifi was still connected). I then reinstalled the software ( the executible file was saved on the harddrive), and it give me the same message that there are no drivers for the adapter.

I shifted my attention to my failed internet connection, after troubleshooting it give me a error 28 message stating that there were no drivers installed for the Broadcom wireless adapter that is internally installed. I tried a system restore to before i tried installing the Encore adapter, and still nothing, the system continued to give me the same message and it registered in the "device manager" as unknown device named "ethernet controller" with a yellow triangle with an exclamation mark. I have been able to borrow a laptop and download the LAN adapter fron the ACER support website, and although it had no "set up.exe" file visible i was able to get... Read more

I would guess that the printer can be connected by ethernet and wireless, but I've never had one with both capabilities so I don't really know.

I once had a printer that worked OK connected to a network plus connected to another computer by USB. Even so, that may depend on the particular printer.

There may be two operating systems that cannot file share with each other but I don't know which ones that might be. Windows XP and 7 are fine sharing with each other (but not claiming that nobody has had any problems).

My o/s is XP sp2 and I am thinking about upgrading to high speed internet since I only have dial up and my local phone service is offering me a good deal with a free modem. My question is that can you use a usb to ethernet adapter instead of a nic to connect to the external modem? I don't have a nic and my motherboard only has two slots which are both being used. Thanks for any feedback.

Answer:USB to ethernet adapter

The free modems usually only come with USB connections anyway. It is unlikely that any broadband ISP will offer an ethernet only modem/router.

Question: Ethernet Adapter

Hey all, I have a NetGear Fa311 Ethernet Adapter, (new to me) (Was still in box unopened) I just installed Windows XP Pro, SP2.

I hace a cable modem, 3 meg, Connected to a Belkin wireless router, then a RJ-45 cable connecting to the NetGear Adapter.

The card seems to have installed, I have also found the CD and updated the drivers. I then went through the network connections, and set up a network connection for a cable connection thats always on No password needed. I had it notify me if conneceted or not connected.

It says that its connected, however I cant access the internet? I threw on my belkin wireless adapter, and connected no problems, The rj-45 cable works with a different network card. But for some reason it does not for this card?

Any Ideas?

It does give me IP addressess.
Address type
Assigned by DHPC
Ipaddress 192.168.2.5
Subnetmask 255.255.255.0
default gateway 192.168.2.1
Network connection details,
Physical Address 00-09-5b-1e-70-5b

DNS servers
192.168.2.1
24.163.64.53
68.115.71.53
24.159.193.40

There is nothing listed under the WINS Server

My VIA chipset is, KT133A
Southbridge vt82c686

If my VIA chipset is effected by a conflict, Is there a work around? As the card does not work in my other PC. Its the exact same thing??

Please only post if you know for sure whats going on. As a post with a reply will cause those who know what there doing to skip over the post..

Question: Ethernet Adapter

Good Day,

My DSL service has been working wonderfully for 5 months. Had a problem with my computer and had to scan disk. Since this has been done, my winipcfg will not recognize the Realtek Ethernet Adapter. I removed it and reinstalled, etc. What have I done here. I can get connected to the DSL, however I have no access to E-Mail or Internet, from that computer.

Please Help! Thanks gf

Answer:Ethernet Adapter

Hi there

Here's something to try...

I'm assuming that in "winipcfg" the dropdown is not showing your NIC as an option.

right-click on Network Neighborhood-select properties
on the installed components list make sure that you have the following...

Client for Microsoft Winfows
Realtek ethernet adapter
TCP/IP

If you have any VPN adapters, remove them. also removew any AOL adapters and all protocols other than TCP/IP

reboot and check it out. If the NIC now shows in WinIpCFG, do a "Release ALL", then close out and power system completely off. Then cycle the power on the DSL Modem, wait for it to come completely back up, then reboot the PC
Good Luck!

Question: ethernet adapter?

Ok, I've been connecting to the internet via usb this entire time. I have the option of connecting via ethernet because I have the port but I dont know if I have an adapter. After being over my sisters house who has the same DSL I do but her connection is a bout 10 times faster than mine, I noticed she is connected through the ethernet.

I wanted to see if I could connect, Im not sure if I did it the right way or if I even have the right equipment because when I disconnected the usb and connected the ethernet, this required that I insert my DSL disk to "update" my connection preferences.I did so but it kept freezing and wouldnt allow me to access the option to change connections, after about the 7th attempt it finally told me that I dont have a ethernet adapter but in my attempts to make the connection first with the usb, I disabled the Broadcom NetXtreme 57xx Gigabit Controller (dont know what this is or if it has anything to do with the ethernet) so that might have a role to play in it maybe?

It was a really big hassle getting it back to usb because I couldnt get it to work the other way and then it just didnt want to work at all.

So my question is ~ Is there something I can use that will tell me if I have an adapter already? or is there a specific way to connect?

Any other info, I gladly provide. Thanks!

Answer:ethernet adapter?

Start - Control Panel - System - Hardware - Device Manager - Network adapters. Here you should be able to see if that item has a red X or a question mark; if it has a X, means is disabled, so go to properties (right click) and enable it, this should fix your problem. If yo do not have the Network adapter item there, means you do not have one, so buy and install one. Hope this helps.

Hi, I'm trying to connect my printer to my home network, but the problem I've got is that the USB port on my printer is a USB type B port. I've been looking for an adapter with this type of connection but have not been able to find one? Does anyone know if it even exists?Oh, almost forgot my printer is a Brother 120c, not the best I know!Kevin.

Answer:USB 2.0 to Ethernet adapter

It appears that this is NOT a "network printer", it is a USB one, so you won't be able to connect it into your network by ethernet, even if you can get a USB-B/RJ45 adapter. Also, if you were to install a Network Print Server with a USB port, it might only support the printing function of the device, not scanning/copying.

Hi,

thanks for looking in and trying to help. I have a laptop with Windows 7 on it, and as usual today the laptop's screen frame also accomodates the internal Wireless Internet antenna. I am able to use the existing networks when they are close enough to me.

But I wanted to have a better reception, so I bought one of those USB-based Wireless Internet Adapters (WIA) which have mounted a little 5 dBi antenna (dBi = Decibel) on its side. I bought recently a much larger 22 dBi antenna, which I can use to replace the smaller antenna on that WIA. Windows also recognized the USB device correctly (please see the screenshot link: http://www.NADB.net/v/Prom/WLAN.jpg), but the connection tool at the lower right side of Windows (system tray area) displays only those networks which the internal screen frame antenna captures.

I tried already to disable the internal antenna, but then I don't get any network. Why can't the Network Connection icon not show networks the USB WIA might capture? What is it I am doing wrong?

Please don't mind to ask me for additional details here, I will provide them as additional details.

Hello, this problem has really confuzzled me. I have just bought a new wireless USB adapter, ran it through the setup entered the password etc. Fine. Nicely connects to the router everytime (well ok most the time). But it cant seem to find the internet, which i know is there because my house mate has no problems with it. I've read quite a few complaints about this adapter. Is it worth just returning it and trying a different one? Or does anyone have any ideas?

It finds the submask, ip address, sets a channel automatically. One thing i noticed though is it doesnt create a gateway. (i asume cos i cant find the net). I did have internet before but they were wired. I've since then disabled the normal ethernet adapter and disabled the old connections. So i dont think theres anything conflicting.

Please help?!!
Thank you in advance i really appreciate it.

Answer:Belkin Wireless adapter - can connect to the adapter, but not the internet!!!

I'm going to guess that the IP address that it finds is 169.254.x.x and the subnet mask is 255.255.0.0, right? It's really NOT connecting to the router, which is why you don't have a Default Gateway or DNS servers.

You don't have to disable the wired interface to connect wirelessly, there's no conflict.

I'd suggest you first disable the encryption and see if it connects. If it does, then you need to make sure you enter matching passwords for the encryption on each end. Note that for WEP you should ONLY use the HEX password, do not use the passcode option.
Please supply the following info, exact make and models of the equipment please.

The name of your ISP and country of residence.
Make/model of the broadband modem. If dial-up, please specify.
Make/model of the router (if any).
Connection type, wired, wireless.
If wireless, encryption used, (WEP, WPA, WPA2, etc.)
Make/model of network card or wireless adapter.
Make/model of your computer (motherboard if home-built).
Version and patch level of Windows on all affected machines, i.e. XP-Home (or XP-Pro), SP2.

Answer:Ethernet adapter card

Do you have another resource for the driver such as mfg. web site, CD or floppy? I imagine you can't roll back the driver, and troubleshooter got you nowhere. Weird one though. I recently got an update from Windows Update for a Samsung LCD monitor I have been using for a while that wouldn't operate properly with 512 of RAM installed, some dll or executable getting caught in a loop as I recall, and then the big Freeze. I even wrote Intel about it as it was their graphics controller software causing the problem. Always seems to be some compatibility issue.

I recently tried to connect to the internet through my ethernet port and it would only do a local connection to the UNC Chapel Hill network. Normally this means that you just need to register your physical address with the DHCP service on campus. so i looked online to see if there was my ethernet physical address registered from last semester, and there was one. so i then checked to make sure that it was the correct physical address by going and doing ipconfig /all in cmd. and it turns out that it reads as follows...

Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection:
Media State ....... Media Disconnected
Connection specific DNS suffix .....
Description ........ : NVIDIA nForce Networking Controller
Physical Address.......: 00-00-00-00-00-00
DHCP Enabled ......: Yes
Autoconfiguration enabled .......: Yes

so i am very confused as to why the physical address is the way that it is. i recently tried uninstalling the ehternet network adapter and then it automatically reinstalled itself but did not change anything, also doing ipconfig /renew did nothing to change it (not sure if it would or not anyway). if you have any idea of what to do then please let me know. Also i am running Vista Home Premium.
Thanks a bunch,
dghall

Answer:Dead ethernet adapter

The wired ethernet chip is soldered to the motherboard so there is no way to fix it if it has died other than replace the motherboard. Did you check the BIOS to see if maybe onboard ethernet has somehow been disabled? A USB 3.0 gigabit ethernet adapter would be much cheaper than replacing the motherboard.  https://www.amazon.com/Ableconn-USB3E1002-SuperSpeed-Ethernet-ChromeOS/dp/B00N4981D2/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1487779221&sr=8-2-spons&keywords=USB+3.0+gigabit+ethernet&psc=1 The only way to know for 100% sure if it is the motherboard is to reinstall the OS to see if maybe some kind of software corruption has knocked it out, or boot the system from a Linux Live type disk to see if an alternate OS can "see" the wired ethernet chip. Even if the plug were physically damaged you would still see the device in the device manager. You might see if there are any hidden devices in device manager just to turn over all the rocks. If this is "the Answer" please click "Accept as Solution" to help others find it.

This is really weird... I have been trying to install an Olicom OC-2232 PCMCIA modem/ethernet combo card on my old Win98SE laptop. I downloaded the latest drivers from the net. I installed the card, and the modem part works fine, and the Device Manager says the Ethernet adapter is also working properly (no exclamation mark over it either).

In Control Panel / Network, I see the Ethernet adapter and a TCP/IP protocol entry for it. The bindings and all the settings are as they should be.

But ipconfig and winipcfg don't see the Ethernet adapter at all. The only adapter I see on the menu in winipcfg is the PPP adapter. There are no "standard modem" devices in Device Manager, only the Olicom PCMCIA modem device which works and dials ok, so I do have the Olicom modem/ether combo drivers installed properly.

I have tried uninstalling the whole Communications part of Windows 98SE and then re-installing the networking stuff from scratch. That didn't help either - the Ethernet adapter is not seen at all by ipconfig or winipcfg.

I have an ADSL modem with both Ethernet and USB. I want to use the USB for my desk computer and the Ethernet connector for my laptop (the modem manual says they can be used simultaneously). Just out of curiosity, I tried installing the USB driver on the laptop, and it worked perfectly - the USB net adapter is shown in winipcfg menu next to the PPP adapter, and the USB net connection works fine. Hello, I have a problem with the ethernet adapter on my computer that worked fine in the past. Basically when I use the ethernet adapter, I get a constant on and off message that a network cable is unplugged when it is not. In one second, the ethernet adapter works fine and I can connect to the internet, in the next second, I get a "message" saying that a network cable is unplugged. Also, recently when I have been connecting to the internet, I keep on getting disconnected to the internet even when I am not using the adapter but a USB cable! The only way I can connect to the internet ok is through a USB cable and by disabling the adapter. It is inconvenient this way and I want to get back to using the ethernet adapter.
I have tried "solutions"; that is, updating the driver software, disabling and reenabling the adapter, and other solutions on the microsoft web site and other places yet nothing seems to work.
Can anyone help me fix the problem?
The ethernet adapter is Intel Pro VE 100 Ethernet Adapter.
O/S is windows xp.
Thank you.

Answer:Need help connecting a 2nd Ethernet Adapter!

This device is designed to connect to a network. Why not pick up a cheap broadband router and connect it the right way, it'll be a lot less complicated? I'm guessing it will be looking for a DHCP server, so you'd probably have to use ICS on that machine to get it to be recognized.

Connect the ShowCenter Player to your home network with the supplied Ethernet cable or 802.11g wireless card. The player automatically detects and connects all PC servers on your home network. If you don't have a home network, don't worry; you can also connect using the included Ethernet crossover cable directly from your PC to the ShowCenter PlayerClick to expand...

Since they say it's possible to connect with a crossover cable, what are the specific installation instructions that came with the unit?

Hey First time poster here.

Now I apologize in advance for being to computer illiterate to be able to do this.

I recently brought a TP-Link 10/100M Fast Ethernet Adapter to connect ADSL to the computer...we just brought a new computer and we only had one SMC adapter.

Well I got it in ok, turned the computer on and put the floppy disk in. However it isnt installing, I think because it cannot find the installer drive on the floppy. I manually searched it and couldnt find anything. You can find a copy of the floppy at http://www.tp-link.com/product/download/Driver_Utility/TF-3239_050815.zip

That is an exact copy of the floppy. So if anyone can please help so I can finally install this.

Cheers.

I have a Fujitsu-Siemens B2154 notebook with Windows XP Professional operating system, and my Internet connection is ADSL Broadband. I have some problems with which I hope the Forum will be able to help me. 1. Since my notebook does not have an Ethernet port, I established the Internet connection using the cable coming from the router using fast Ethernet Adapter. My Internet Provider recommended I use a wireless Adapter, but since my Broadband connection is through a landline, in an electronics shop they recommended that instead I use the Adapter. The transfer speed is very slow, and when I double click Local Area Connection 2, it shows a speed 100.0 Mbps (does b stand for bit?), but I think the speed should be 7 MBps.2. When my Fujitsu Siemens notebook feels rather hot which happens when I use it for a long time, and kind of a humming noise is heard coming from it. onkeljoe

Answer:ethernet adapter and broadband

When you double click the Local Area Connection, the speed shown is the speed at which the port is connecting, i.e. the PC and router are connected at 100Mbps (Megabits per second), it is *NOT* an indication of your broadband speed. Go to a site such as Speedtest.net click here to check what your broadband speed is.

First time posting so I apologize if anything is missing and whatnot.

Down to the problem, I'm having some difficulties with an Ethernet port on my laptop that won't hold a connection to my router for more than 2 seconds. I have pinged loopback (127.0.0.1) and my laptop's own static IP (192.168.0.9) both of which were fine, however once I tried pinging my laptop from another computer it would time out. Changing the speed and duplex caused it to stay connected however it would bring back "Unidentified Network". I have tried a fair bit of troubleshooting of my own, googling a lot and to no avail.

My adapter is a Broadcom 440x 10/100 Integrated Controller with IPv6 disabled (intentionally) and the Router I'm attempting to connect to is a Sky Branded router. The ethernet cable I'm using has no problems connecting to my xbox360, however we use Wireless for that, and it has no problem connecting to the other PC, it just will not hold a connection between my laptop and the router.

Statistics of my adapter's driver are as follows:

Driver Provider: Microsoft
Driver Date: 13/10/2008
Driver Version: 4.60.0.1
Digital Signer: Microsoft Windows

Windows update insists I have the best driver installed.

If anyone has a solution to my problem, please help me out.

Answer:Ethernet adapter problem!

If software fixes fail, it's possible your Ethernet port could be going bad.

A cheap fix is a 10/100 USB adapter (about $15). I've set up about six of this brand/model over the past year without any problem.

I recently had to reformat my PC because I was getting a blue screen which said windows would not start properly, I tried repairing my windows but that did not work either. I use Verizon DSL and I've never had an issue installing it when I first got it. I can't get online unless I have the software of verizon's installed, but I can't install the software because when I go to "Install my Modem" it can not connect to my Ethernet Adapter. It says that I do not have an "Ethernet Adapter". I'm not positive, but I think an Ethernet Adapter is the same as an Ethernet card, please tell me if I'm wrong.

I'm assuming when I had to improperly shut my computer down I may have fried something (such as my ethernet card ) and that I need to purchase a new one. I've gone through all of the troubleshooting issues and none of them resolved my problem. I don't feel like calling on July 4th because I have family over, and I figured I'd get better help here anyway.

I'm an avid gamer, and a decent Ethernet Card would be nice (If that's even my problem!?)

1) Do you think it's my card?
2) If I get a new card, what kind of card should I get?

Thanks to everyone in advance, your help is greatly appreciated.

Good Afternoon,

My ethernet port is not working on my PC (not sure why) and so I've reverted temporarily to a USB adapter which enables me to connect my ethernet cable via USB. Problem I have is that the adapter was supplied by my broadband company back when we originally got broadband internet company around 10 years ago (the PC I had back in them days did not have an ethernet port!) and so I have no idea who the manufacturer of the device is.

I'm using Windows XP SP2 and the device will not plug and play (treid 3 different ports), does anyone know if there is a driver embedded within Windows that I can manually activate, or failing that suggest a generic driver that I can get online?

USB is only a temporary measure, Ive just bought a new Router (sods law the one port I require fails the day I buy a shiny new device!) and need to connect it via cable for initial setup. I'm curently connected to my old router through WiFi.

Any Help is much appreciated.

I have a working netgear router and cable modem for my network. I have tested it with my laptop running xp pro and it's great.

I am trying to add to the network a sony laptop running windows 2000 that has only one usb port. The laptop has no ethernet port, so I installed a usb-ethernet adapter that I plugged into a working usb hub. I could not conncect to the router configuration page. If I put the adapter directly into the laptops usb port (not the hub), everything works great. If I put it back into the hub, it works for about 3 minutes, then I cannot connect to the router configuration page again.

We have a lot of usb devices on the computer that we need.
Help!! Thanks!!

Hello,

I bought a used usb ethernet adapter for my friends laptop, in order to connect him to the internet via high speed. The problem I am facing is that the adapter did not come with an install disk, and although the drivers are dowloadable from the manufacturers web site, I cannot get the program to initiate once downloaded. Basically, I am downloading the driver on my computer, and then transfering the file exactly as it comes in over to his computer via a 3.5 inch disk. However, none of the files on the disk are executable, none of them Run or initiate any kind of an install process. When you download, it gives you the option to open, and when you choose this it brings you to a dos prompt, but because his computer cannot currently connect to the internet, I have no means it seems of getting his computer to this stage even, and further, I do not know what to do even after getting to the dos prompt. Help please!! Thank you!!

Hi

Any help on this one would be great!

I am using a Belkin USB to ethernet adapter to connect to my Netgear ADSL modem/router as the win98se PC in question does not have an ethernet card.
Via the other XP PC connected to the router I can see the win98 pc is 'attached' and also can successfully ping the router via the win98 machine.

However, I cannot seem to gain internet access which is working fine with the XP machine. I have tried configuring static IP addressing with manual dns configuration (Using the DNS addresses reported by the router) and, again, the router shows the win98 machine attached at the chosen IP address. Internet explorer just sits there saying 'Finding www.whatever.com' but fails to connect.

Heres hoping someone out there might be able to sat where I've gone wrong!

I have been battling with my internet provider for over a year now, yesterday they tell me my laptop is at fault!  The problem is my internet speed, on wireless I get around 140mbs, but when hardwired to my router I only get 90mbs at best? My provider now tell me it is due to my ethernet adapter, it is only capable of 100mbs. If this is the case, how do I increase the speed, or replace the adapter?   Regards   M

Hello,
I'm running Win XP Pro fully patched. I've got a Netgear FA311 Fast Ethernet card installed and a DSL modem. To connect to the internet, I have to open my Network Connections panel and disable and then reenable the netgear adapter after every restart. After doing, so I connect just fine. Before I disable and reenable the netgear adapter status reads "enabled" but is not, in fact, recognizing the the dsl connection.

I've reinstalled the drivers as well.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Answer:Ethernet Adapter Issue

Do you have the newest driver installed? If so I would try one or two versions back on the driver.

Is there an all-purpose diagnostic programs for ethernet adapters? The DIAG program that came with my adapter only returns "cannot find adapter". Windows 2000 tells me that the adapter is up and running fine, but I can't get any throughput to speak of. I've uninstalled and reinstalled it several times, using several different copies of what seems to be the same driver downloaded from manufacturer, vendor, etc.

Ok so recently my psu died in my computer I replaced it with a corsair rm-750 and I bought a new gtx 760 for my system as well. I installed it all know problem ,but when I went to power my system it told my my pcie wifi card adapter family was having driver issues. When I checked the wifi adapter in my case it wasn't getting any power so I assumed it had died. I then ordered a brand new asus USB ac56 adapter and when I booted my system it tells me "there might be a problem with the driver for the Ethernet adapter" and "there might be a problem with the wifi 3 adapter"

since it's said this I've gone through my control panel and uninstalled my Ethernet adapter drivers only to reinstall them and have it tell me the same thing. I'm too the point now where I don't know what else to do. The wifi drivers are brand new and I don't understand why they wouldn't work. Nothing I've tried has fixed the issue. Would appreciate if any of you can help so I can have my pc running before the next battlefield release. Thanks.

Answer:Ethernet adapter issue

So, you just installed a new PSU and your pci-e wifi card died at the same time; correct? If so, I would look around inside the case and definitely try to reseat that pci-e wifi card. IMHO, you have most likely either disturbed a connection or somehow caused some sort of ESD damage when installing the PSU. So, did you use any of the proper ESD precautions (before/when) installing the new PSU? Did you use an ESD wrist-strap?

I'm doing this for a friend as he can't get online, he has a dell dimention 2300, winxp, he reinstalled winxp with the dell cd, everything went ok but when he tried to go online winxp can't recognize his usb ethernet network adapter, in device manager he has a question mark for serial bus controller (usb) and 10/100 lan, he said he installed all the drivers that where on the dell resource cd, in the right order

Answer:XP won't recognize usb ethernet adapter

Was the adapter an optional component or something he added later? If the former, you could find drivers on the Dell site, if the latter, check if it came with a drivers CD, or if it the manufacturer's web site has drivers for it.
Also check out the unknown device identifier
http://www.zhangduo.com/udi.html
I don't know how good it is, but it's worth giving it a try.
If you know you have the right drivers for the right, but it still won't get detected in device manager, there's always a chance of the device being faulty or broken.

So I have a Dell PC I bought a little over 1.5 yrs ago that came with an integrated ethernet adapter on mobo.
worked fine uptill november last year when it started giving me problems where the comp would not recognize the adapter on start-up, a reboot would solve the problem and I'd be able to go online. recently even that stopped and I can not go online, neither would it recognize the adapter on the system device list at all.

Thinking that the port has gone bad, I bought a new PCI Express X1 card and installed that on the computer.
It showed up on the device manager list only the very first time I started the machine, on every subsequent start-up, the device manager list does not show either of the adapters and I have not been able to go online on that machine for more than three weeks now.

any help on this would be great if somebody has gone thru similar predicament.
thx

Alright i have a D-LINK AIR 2.4GHz Wireless Cardbus Adapter, and I am trying to find a way to connect it to an ethernet cable to connec tto my xbox 360. I have taken apart a laptop to get its cardbus, thinking that there would be some wires that i could try to splice and solder. 40 screws later i realized that tthe cardbus connects directly into the motherboard.

So if anyone has any idea how i could get the internet from my cardbus adapter into my xbox it would be greatly appreciated.

I have been having problems with my computer randomly dropping my internet connection. Usually my ping spikes real high, Skype disconnects me, the game I'm playing disconnects me. I had this problem before upgrading to windows 10 and don't know if its my killer e2200 that came integrated with my motherboard. The driver is updated and I thought I might as well start here before trying to replace modem or router. I also want to add that I have a brand new Cat 6 cable Ethernet cable.

The only problem is trying to find a PCI Ethernet network adapter that is compatible with windows 10. I would really like to avoid using a USB 3.0 and prefer to use a PCI slot. Of course it doesn't need to say "good for gaming" as I think any generic 10/100/1000 Ethernet adapter will do. The problem is finding one that works with Windows 10. Thanks.

And if anyone want to try and solve my network problem your welcome to. I notice it only when I'm playing a game and talking to friends on Skype. I might also be listening to music with a mixture of downloaded and streaming from Spotify. When I'm playing a game and talking I will notice that the persons voice is getting broken up and my game starts to lag, ping spikes way passed 1000. When this happens Skype says I'm offline and I'm trying to reconnect. The problem I'm facing leads me to believe it could be my router thinking that I'm taking to much bandwidth or something. I have a Linksys EA4500, and I have my computer under Media Prioritiz... Read more

Hi folks

I am interested in playing some of my ps2 games online, more specifically pro evolution 5.
At the moment my setup is i have a switch connected to my blueyonder cable modem 1mbps. is it simple case of me buying this network adapter that i attach to my ps2 and run a cat5 cable to my ps2 to switch and bobs your uncle

Do i need to pay extra fees to blueyonder to receive this service. thanks.

I have looked on the blueyonder website and cannot find anything to do with console gaming which proved useful.

Also does anyone know any uk sites where i can pick up a cheap network apater for ps2.

thanks again

Answer:ethernet adapter ps2 question

is very simple to hook ps2 online, just buy network adapter and hook the cat5 cable from network adapter to router or directly to modem. No need to configure nothing. Only thing you will be ask by ps2 is to make a connection profile which is self explainatory and easy to do.

No need for extra free or nothing.

I bought a X1 Carbon 4th generation latpop here in New Zealand and it did not come with any sort of ethernet adapter cable. The documentation that came with this laptop is virtually non-existent and the Lenovo support site is utterly useless. When I search for accessories for my laptop by serial number it doesn't even give me an option for an ethernet cable / adapter. Anyways /end rant.... I see there are two different ethernet adapters for an X1 Carbon, but I'm not sure which one to buy and whether both will work with my X1 Carbon 4th Gen? I see two options: 4X90K06975 - ThinkPad OneLink+ To RJ45 Adapter4X90F84315 - ThinkPad Ethernet Extension Cable Both are listed on http://www3.lenovo.com/nz/en/accessories-and-monitors/cables-and-adapters/adapters/c/adapters and both pages say full compatibilty with Carbon X1 I have a sneaking suspicion that is FALSE and I can only use the Onelink+ version, which is the more expensive of the two. Can anyone advise if I can use only one, or both, and if both, is there any benefit to using one adapter versus the other? Honestly, I like the laptop but the customer experience with Lenovo is dreadful.  No after hours support, no support on the weekends and only support during Australian hours....they really don't seem to care about their New Zealand customers AT ALL

Answer:X1 Carbon 4th Gen - which ethernet adapter?

Hello and welcome,

The connection has changed based on the generation of the X1.  Please confirm that the documents linked below apply to your generation.

Based on the (English) User Guide - ThinkPad X1 Carbon (Type 20FB, 20FC), X1 Yoga

"You can connect your computer to a local network or a broadband connection through the OneLink+ Ethernet Adapter or a supported ThinkPad OneLink+ Dock."

And PSREF: http://psref.lenovo.com/syspool/Sys/PDF/ThinkPad/ThinkPad%20X1%20Carbon%20(4th%20Gen)/ThinkPad_X1_Ca...

"Adapter (optional) OneLink+ to RJ45: ThinkPad OneLink+ to RJ45 adapter"

I'd say it's OneLink+ to RJ45.  Another option might be an inexpensive 3rd-party USB 3.0 -> GigE adapter.

Z.

Run the ESET Uninstaller: http://support.eset.com/kb2289/?viewlocale=en_US
Read the instructions carefully, you must be in Safe Mode to run it and you'll need to use another computer and a USB stick to get it to the computer.

Also reset TCP as described in this article, same as for Windows 8: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/299357
