I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Several scans have been preformed before posting this, it was infected with zeroaccess rootkit, which I can no longer see traces of. Here is whats been done so far, this is over a remote connection to this pc so I want to make sure if possible, that everything looks ok before booting back into normal mode to test.
ran TDDSkiller, rogue killer, tweaking.com tool. Rogue Killer found lots of traces of zeroaccess, ran tdds in normal mode, as well as adw. Not 100% sure but I believe Hitman pro and Malwarebytes was run as well, Bit Defender endpoint is installed as well. I do not have the log files for them, so we will start from scratch.

Your crash dumps are not showing any finite probable cause. In such a situation, it is better to enable Driver Verifier to monitor the drivers.
Driver Verifier - Enable and Disable
Run Driver Verifier for 24 hours or the occurrence of the next crash, whichever is earlier.

   Information
Why Driver Verifier:
It puts a stress on the drivers, ans so it makes the unstable drivers crash. Hopefully the driver that crashes is recorded in the memory dump.

How Can we know that DV is enabled:
It will make the system bit of slow, laggy.

   Warning
Before enabling DV, make it sure that you have earlier System restore points made in your computer. You can check it easily by using CCleaner looking at Tools > System Restore.

If there is no points, make a System Restore Point manually before enabling DV.

   Tip

If you fail to get on the Desktop because of DV, Boot into Advanced Boot Options > Safe mode. Disable DV there. Now boot normally again, and try following the instruction of enabling DV again.

Hi All: I've been smashing my head against the wall with this one. I have uninstalled ALL unnecessary applications I could find. Basically all that is left is Windows XP, Drivers and Patches in Add/Remove Programs. I have removed the wireless driver, downloaded a newer one and installed it, still nothing. I have tried it using no Wireless Security on the AP, and also using WPA, and wouldn't work with either in Normal Mode, but worked with both in Safe Mode. I ran a virus and spyware check (before uninstalling Norton), and it came out clean. The weirest thing is, sometimes it does connect and get an IP in Normal Mode, but when I run a ping to my local gateway, half the packets are lost (timeout), and the ones that do reply I see a response time ranging from 2ms to 5000ms with no other traffic. I have no idea what can be causing this. Any help would be greatly appreciated. If all else fails, I will resort to formatting it and installing WinXP from scratch, since I doubt it's hardware.

Everytime i open my pc up in normal mode, it seems to restart itself within a few seconds to a few minutes, It tends to happen when i open up a program like Chrome. I',m currently on safe mode with networking and have done registry cleaners, updated video card drivers and looked for viruses, yet nothing has seemed wrong, I've also done a system restore to when my pc was working fine, but it still was happening, I saw on another post here that i should post my msinfo32 so here you go, Thanks.

Answer:BSOD only occurs in normal mode, Works fine on safe mode.

Just tried opening in normal mode again, got a blue screen within 2 minutes. Didn't open chrome, only programs i had opened was mozilla firefox, and startup programs

Answer:BSOD when trying to boot in normal mode, safe mode works fine

You may need to run SFC up to 3 times for it to have a chance to repair all files.

If it won't then you can consider a Repair Install.

However be aware that factory preinstalled Win7 is one of the worst possible installs of Win7 one can have, larded with bloatware and duplicate utilties that intefere with better versions built into Win7. So I would strongly consider doing the vastly superior Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7.

If you decide to try to repair you can also capture the BSOD file and post it up for one of our BSOD analysts as shown here: Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) Posting Instructions - Windows 7 Forums

I started having said problem during virus removal.
I had removed multiple virus via malware, SAS, aSquare, combofix, and, I could not connect to any websites.
Via my wireless connection, windows said my signal strength was good and it was connected to the wireless network.
I tried pinging different websites like yahoo.com, google.com, etc and all my requests timed out.

So I decided to trouble shoot.
Booting into safe mode w/ networking worked fine. I was able to ping and connect to websites via Internet Explorer.
I ran SpybotS&D, and it removed a win32.agent and some sort of malware that had firewall in the name... forgot exactly what it was, and I don't have the log on hand.
Anyways, after this removal I tried again to ping website like yahoo.com, google.com, etc, and the ping worked fine.
However, I still could not connect to any websites via Internet Explorer. I tried reinstalling IE, but its the same story.
During this whole process, I have been able to use Internet Explorer succesfully only in safe mode.

Any ideas? I doubt it is a virus directly causing my problems. It's had a thorough cleaning. Maybe some left over wreckage?
I doubt its a firewall issue. CA's personal firewall is installed on the machine. I know CA antivirus is running in safe mode, I'm not so sure if the firewall does or not. I'm assuming it does.
I don't know where to even start on this. Any help would be appreciated.

Answer:Can't browse in normal mode, works fine in safe mode.

Hello,You should not browse in Safe Mode because your security programs do not function in safe mode which means that more malware finds its way onto your computer. This issue is related to the issue you have posted here: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/240716/sdra64exe-uacinitdll-fakealert-vundo/ Because you have this log posted, you should NOT make further changes to your computer (install/uninstall programs, use special fix tools, delete files, edit the registry, etc) unless advised by a HJT Team member, nor should you ask for help elsewhere. Doing so can result in system changes which may not show in the log you already posted. Further, any modifications you make on your own may cause confusion for the helper assisting you and could complicate the malware removal process which would extend the time it takes to clean your computer. From this point on the HJT Team should be the only members that you take advice from, until they have verified your log as clean. Please be patient. It may take a while to get a response because the HJT Team members are EXTREMELY busy working logs posted before yours. They are volunteers who will help you out as soon as possible. Once you have made your post and are waiting, please DO NOT make another reply until it has been responded to by a member of the HJT Team. Recently purchased this all in one PC on second hand. It initially had Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit Japanese OS. I installed Windows 7 Ultimate 32 bit English OS after purchasing and installed the Drivers from the DVD which came along with the PC. Ran windows update till date. But got BSOD many times. Thinking of Hard drive issue, changed the hard disk first time with another used one and next time with newly purchased one.

All the time installed Windows 7 Ultimate 32 bit English OS and installed the Drivers from the DVD which came along with the PC. Ran windows update till date. But in all 3 hard disks getting the BSOD error.

Installed Microsoft Security Essentials each time and checked for virus. Ran Dell Diagnostics downloaded from Dell website and found no issues.

Got "Session "Microsoft Security Client OOBE" stopped due to the following error: 0xC000000D" error on Event viewer many times. After searching some forums deleted MSE.

Ran the SF diagnotic utility and uploading the file for your reference.

Please help me to overcome this issue.

Answer:BSOD in Normal mode but works fine in Safe mode

Attachment in the first thread gauti2009.zip is SF Diagnostic Tool run in Safe mode.
Attachment in the current thread SF_02-09-2013.rar is SF Diagnostic Tool run in Normal mode. (Somehow no BSOD during this short time, able to get the file and post it).

Hope this will help.

Hello,

From last 2 days I am facing constant crash in windows 7 normal mode (Lenovo notebook G580). but when I do boot the pc in safe mode with networking, crash never occurs. I am posting this thread in safe mode only from the same laptop. I have dmp file generated using verifier. and the same with provided exe here. I will try to upload both. I think some driver is causing the crash but can't find which one. please help to resolve this as I hope must not be the hard disk issue.

The thread title gives the exact impression. And it was a good step to enable verifier.

Now disable verifier.

Then ....
Update the SplitCam product: SplitCam free webcam software for video streaming and adding cool webcam effects

Free up the startup. Windows does not need any other program to auto start with it, but the auto start programs often conflicts and causes various problems including BSODs.
Click on the Start button
Type ?msconfig (without quotes), click the resulting link. It will open the System Configuration window.
Select the ?Startup? tab.
Deselect all items other than the antivirus (MSC) and the touchpad driver SynTPEnh.
Apply > OK
Accept then restart.
Then run the laptop normally. Let us see any further BSOD crash dump after doing it.

It's my first post here, so hey all.
I don't know if it's the right section for my problem, so sorry if it's not.

I've got a problem with my PC. Yesterday, my PC has started working really slow, and the sound ''lagged'' aswell. I've tried running Quake 3, but it was hanging after few secs, tried it a few times, while Starcraft was running fine for around 1 hour, and no hanging or restarts. I've tried reinstalling Windows (I have Windows XP Pro.), and the PC didn't work slow anymore, but it STILL was hanging in normal mode and in Q3... So, I've tried to run antivirus scan, and defragmenting, but during the defragmentation Pc hanged. I restarted it and it took really long to load Windows.. And the sound was lagging again, with PC running slow again. Tried reinstalling the windows again, but after some time the same thing happens. Tried formattic drive C:, and reinstalling windows, but after some times the same thing occurs. So... It takes really long to load Windows, the sound lags, everything is working slow, and after a few seconds it hangs on pretty much every game, just Starcraft works fine. Hangs while just in Windows, doing nothing, too. I took a log from HijackThis, but only in safe mode... It just hangs in normal, so sorry for this. =/ I run Spybot search and destroy in Safe Mode, it found like 6 things and I deleted them, but it didn't help. So, I could really use some help, and I'd appreci... Read more

Answer:PC working slow, and hanging in normal mode.. fine in safe mode,

Welcome to Major Geeks!

It is very unlikely that your problems are related to malware especially if you have already formatted.

However if you want to be sure there is no malware then please follow the instructions in the below link and attach the requested logs when you finish these instructions. If something does not run, write down the info to explain to us later but keep on going. Do not assume that because one step does not work that they all will not.

I am using Windows XP home edition with SP3. It was working normally. I used to get a popup "Windows cannot find "syssetup.exe"....When i opened yesterday morning I found it taking longer and never go to the desktop after giving the username and password. It stops at Welcome screen with a msg "Loading your personal settings" and no more response. I followed below steps to trouble shoot the issue.

1.I have tried opening in both "safemode" and "safemode with networking", found its working fine. I ran "msconfig" in safemode and unchecked some unwanted applications(nothing related to windows process) and tried again opening in normal mode.... Not worked

2. My internet works normally in safemode. Found some virus by running antivirus in safemode and cleared all the viruses.

It would be really appreciable if any one could solve my issue..

Cheers!

2 days ago my computer randomly froze up when I had a few chrome windows open and a few other applications. The mouse can move around but nothing on the screen is responsive. I figured it was a one time thing and forced shut down and rebooted. It again froze up about 3 minutes later and now every time I use it it freezes from within a few minutes of logging in to up to an hour. Even if I just log in and don't touch anything it will freeze at some point in time. Last night I used it for 6 hours and thought everything was fixed but when I woke up it was again frozen. It also seems to be lagging a little when opening new tabs and applications which it never did. It works fine in safe mode and stayed on for over 24 hours with no problems.

Dell Vostro laptop
3ghz 2GB RAM
250GB HD 50% full

What I have done:

Restored to a date of last week when everything was working - didn't help
Ran updated versions of AVG and Malwarebytes - clean and didn't help
Turned off all start up items in MSCONFIG - didn't help
Turned off all non microsoft services in services in MSCONFIG - didn't help
All the drivers in my device manager seem to be working as I see no exclamation points or anything

I googled around and tried to figure it out on my own but can't seem to figure it out so if anyone has any ideas I would love to hear them. If you need any more information please ask and I will provide. Hope it was clear and concise.

Thanks

Hello there,
I really need help on this one. When I switched on my laptop ( Hp windows 7) , it started as usual and it screened the message " starting windows" as usual , after starting I was expecting the log on screen to come. But there it was, just a black screen while the standard windows tune was heard, there was NO log on screen. It was just black.
Then I went into safe mode with networking. And that's all how it works now.
Please I would be really greatful if you could help me out.

So basically the laptop is functioning all fine in safe mode but wouldn't go further the " starting windows" message in normal mode.

Hello everyone,

I have a Dell Optiplex GX270 with a pentium 4 processor, yes I know, old, but it works. It is running on Windows XP Pro, version 2002 with service pack 3. I have cable internet connected to a Linksys WRT100 router. As of late, my computer has been acting a little funny. I cannot seem to browse the internet for more than 5 minutes (with either Firefox 3 or IE 8) in normal mode, but the computer shows that I am connected to the internet. I was connected via a usb wireless adaptor, but since it has been acting strange, I have removed the wireless adaptor with the software and am now connected through an ethernet cord to the router which is connected to the cable modem.

The internet works fine in safe mode with networking though. Plus, in normal mode, I am able to update services such as McAfee virus scan and Spybot, as well as remote connect to another computer, which require internet although the internet browsers say that it is not connected. I have ran Spybot, Ad-Aware, and McAfee virus scan already as well, all have not found anything. My roommate's laptop is able to connect to the network, via ethernet and wireless adapter, thus I do not believe it is either the router or modem. In device manager, my network adaptor icons did not show either an "x" or "!" icon. I have tried "WinsockxpFix" but that does not seem to solve my problem. I have tried going into "msconfig" to disable all of the "startup" pro... Read more

Hi, I am getting a BSOD every time I boot up in normal mode.  If I boot into Safe Mode, I can run forever.  I am not sure what could be causing it.  I tried reinstalling my video driver.  I also ran memory diagnostics, and it reported that everything was fine.
Any ideas?  I captured the BSOD log and will paste it below to see if that can help pinpoint the problem.  Almost every time I see the PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA string.  I have no idea what that could mean.  Thanks in advance for any help.  I desperately need to get my computer back on its feet.  Thanks again.

Answer:BSOD on normal boot, safe mode works fine

Since this isn't occurring in Safe Mode I would suggest running a Clean Boot to see if this is a problem with a Service or a startup item.  You will know if it is a Service after you reboot in step 3b, if it is a service this problem will not reoccur in normal mode.

***This is a diagnotic tool for Windows Vista, Windows 7, and Windows 8.  This will not repair your computer, but it may point to where the problem lies so that a repair can be made.***

Warning:  Disabling items in Services or Startup may leave your anitivius disabled until the process is ended.  For this reason I would suggest that you perform this process off line.

Step 1

(1)  Click on the Start orb , then type msconfig.exe in the Search programs and files box.

(2)  When msconfig is seen in the pane above the search box and under Programs, right click on it, then click on Run as administrator.

If you are prompted for an administrator password or for confirmation, you should enter the password or provide confirmation.

Step 2

(1)  Click on the General tab.

(2)  Click the Selective startup option.

(3)  Remove the check mark in the Load startup items  check box.

Step 3

(1)  Click on the Services tab.

(2)  Place a check mark in the Hide all Microsoft services check box, this will remove the Microsoft Services ... Read more

Ok, I'm sure I'm missing something simple, but I have looked everywhere.I have a T60 running Windows XP Pro w/ SP3.  About 72 hours ago, I lost the ability to access the internet via my browser (IE7) while running in normal mode.  Works fine in safe mode with networking.  I am connected to a home network using wireless.  Router and modem all check out fine, and have been rebooted.  A 2nd laptop was brought in to verify and worked fine.  T60 will not allow internet access with wired port or wireless port in normal mode.  My desktop computer works fine on same network. The only update I've made recently is the update to the WiFi driver from Lenovo a few days ago.  I've even rolled back to the previous driver and still cannot stay connected to the internet for more than maybe 1 minute in normal mode after bootup and loggging in.I've run every Malware/anti-virus program known to man and have found nothing (Malwarebytes, Spybot, A-Squared, etc.)I've run several Rootkit tools and found nothing.I've disabled, removed and reinstalled my Norton Internet Security software and made no difference.  (same version running on my desktop and working fine.  Same version that has been running on this laptop for months and working fine.)I've done Registry restores (from a backup) and repairs and no change.I've removed and reinstalled IE7.I've run Hijackthis and had the info analyzed, found nothing.I've tried winsock repair tools, "netsh" reset co... Answer:[SOLVED] internet works in safe mode but not normal mode

I'd guess you have some kind of malware on your computer, have you run a virus scan? I'd followup with something like malwarebytes.

Answer:Internet works in vista only in safe mode and not normal mode

My first suggestion would be to get into msconfig and uncheck as much as you can in the startup tab. See if you can then use IE or whichever browser you use. If it works, then slowly add items back until you find the culprit.

Hi guys, I'm new to the forum and really hoping you can help me :)

My internet has not been working on my laptop, which happened very suddenly 2-3 days ago. The connection is fine on my other computer and phone, so I know its not the internet itself. Even on the laptop, it SAYS the wifi is connected, but its not working. Firefox was instantly crashing, it wouldn't even bring up the browser window. Chrome gives me a "DNS address not found" error for every site I try and IE wont load anything.

I've tried flushing my DNS, using that ipconfig /refresh and /renew thing. I've tried troubleshooting the wifi connection, disabling/enabling it. I ran a Malware Bytes scan and only found a couple of "pup" programs/cookies that have been deleted. Currently running a SuperAntiSpyware scan.

The thing is, I tried using the internet in Safe Mode with Networking and it works just fine! So that means a program or something on my computer is causing it, right? There were issues with my Teredo Tunneling Psuedo-Interface driver the other day, it had a yellow triangle with an exclamation mark, but I did a couple of fixes that I found on help sites and that exclamation is gone now.

Please help, I really want to use my laptop on the internet again ;_;

Oh, and the specs for my comp are:
Lenovo Win7 PC
Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-2410M CPU @ 2.30 GHz
RAM: 6 GB
Windows 7 - 64 bit operating system

Answer:Internet works in safe mode w/ networking but not normal mode

In Network and Sharing Center, there is a wizard to troubleshoot connection problems. If that doesn't work, you could "set up a new connection".

The first thing i would do is stay in safe mode and run a virus scan.

Also check for a system restore point.

Use your Install DVD. When on the install now screen choose repair in the left side of screen. Select your OS. Then When at the GUI select system restore. Choose a date before all this happened.

Hello,

I'm running a Gateway NV Series and as of last night I have fallen victim to the problem that Windows 7 seems to be plagued with. My internet has completely stopped working, both Ethernet and Wireless. I have tried many of the fixes suggested in this forum and others, but none of them have worked. So I booted into safe mode with networking and low and behold, the wireless and Ethernet work just fine here.

Why is this?

I don't like to run the internet on safe mode, and I would to have my computer back working at normal capacity. How can I fix this?

Specs on my laptop are here:

Answer:No Internet in Normal Mode; Works in Safe Mode

Hi and Welcome to SF.

Your safe mode loads up with the bare essentials to get things working. Using builtin drivers i would think and no third party softwares. If your safe mode don't work, more than likely u have a system/hardware issue.

As for your normal mode, go into Device Manager, any noticable issues?

My internet wont work unless I'm in 'Safe Mode With Network Support'. This just started 2 days. All other computers on my network are fine, except this one. Can anyone suggest anything?

I'm running Windows XP.

I've done countless virus scans and adware scans.

I got frustrated last time with hijack this, so I just checked off everything and clicked "Fix". That didnt work.

I managed to fix some things in the Event Viewer. Now I get Event 7031 and that is the only error I receive. Details -
"The Workstation Service Library service terminated unexpectedly. It has done this 397 time(s). The following corrective action will be taken in 3000 milliseconds: Restart the service.

For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp."
One time I thought I had it fixed, but like 10 min later it went back into safe mode.

Ran something called Win Sock XP fix which basically restored tcp/ip settings but that didnt work. That was a temporary fix. NOw I'm stuck without a clue.

Ran symantec a few times. Found a few viruses, but they got deleted quickly. Here's a list of viruses they found and fixed.

userint32.exe virus name W32.Allim
rdriv.sys virus name Trojan Horse
msaccrt.exe virus name W32.Allim
lanmany.exe virus name Backdoor.Staprew.B
aight.exe virus name Backdoor.Trojan

Does anyone have any reccommendations? Re-formatting isnt really an option.

Hi all, my laptop has been acting crazy the past couple of days. First of all, I was watching a movie on it and it just shut down. when I tried restarting it in normal mode i would get to the welcome symbol after what seemed an eternity of loading, but then the screen just went black. when I opened in safe mode with networking, everything was fine. So then I went to msconfig and unchecked the two items i was allowed to. rebooted the system and I could get into normal mode again.

So the problem now is that normal mode is acting like safe mode meaning that the bottom toolbar looks the same as in safe mode as well as any of the other open windows. also, after i tried restarting it again, i get this dialogue when I try to connect to my wifi " the dependency service or group failed to start.".

thanks for any help.

Answer:normal mode acting like safe mode and now internet not working

also, other hardware is not working such as audio and printers.

My computer wouldn't boot past advanced options menu for a quite a while. So I was messing around in safe mode running anti virus software an it booted normally finally . But after that I went into add/remove programs and got rid of some stuff and I'm not sure if the internet was working before I did that because I did it right when the computer booted up again. However it does work in safe mode

I'm using windows 7 64-bit operating system with internet explorer 11, and Firefox. I can use my browsers while in safe mode to upload / download information. However, after starting windows normally the browsers no longer work, that is, when I start IE I get the "This page cannot be displayed" message even though the url is microsoft.com and Firefox give me the Mozilla Crash Reporter form. I've checked the internet connection in network and sharing and see the connection is made; also when I run MS Security Essentials it gets the current updates. So it seems that it is just a browser issue. Thought someone might have an idea of how I can get my browsers working again.

After upgrading to SP2 about a month ago so I could take finals on my computer at school, i noticed that my computer wouldn't boot up in safe mode (i just get a blank dark screen and i can hear the computer doing something but giving it a reasonable amount of time it doesn't progress from that screen). It didn't concern me because normal mode was working and i was able to take my tests. But now I want to get to the bottom of this. I delayed getting sp2 because i had a feeling it would mess up my computer. (i've had other problems too with visual skins but i was able to resolve those). If it matters, i ran a scan of my system with spyware doctor and it said i had a trojan.dialer and needed to boot in safemode to get rid of it. When I tried, it wouldn't load. Oh, btw, any way to get rid of that trojan.dialer without using safemode?

Hi,

About two months ago my HP Pavilion 6654y Win7, 8GB, etc.,
started running extremely slowly in Normal Mode. It takes several minutes to respond to mouse clicks, etc.
Basically, it just hangs. But it runs "ok" for a minute or two while still rebooting.

In Safe mode it runs just fine.
I've tried everything I can think of to narrow down the problem, to no avail,
including numerous scans such as AVG, Malwarebytes, Trend Micro Housecall.
Installed UnHackMe to check for rootkits. Even got Reimage and ran it several times.

I've used CCleaner to clean things up, and also to clear out Startup programs
and disable most scheduled tasks, as follows,
(though it is confusing to me since I still see some of the process when started up in Normal Mode):

Please run Minitoolbox and include the List Installed Programs. Check HP desktop if it comes with a diagnostic test within windows or BIOS utility for memory sticks and hard drive and try running the complete test. Please post back if there are no such features as they would be provided. Try also doing some house cleaning for some dust and bunnies to make sure thermal events is not contributing to the problem.

Hi,

I got win 7 home premium 64 bit on an i3 laptop. My system worked fine until today morning.

The problem is this;
When I boot the system in normal mode, I get to the part where I need to enter my password to login. Once i do that, all I get is a black screen with the mouse pointer that moves about normally. I've waited for the normal desktop environment to appear (ie icons and taskbar) but this doesn't happen (btw, my desktop background color is always black).
The system boots perfectly in safe mode.

Yesterday was the first time in over a year I used utorrent. I used to get the BSOD when I used to use it. I couldn't rectify the problem and hence had stopped using it. It worked fine yesterday though.

Any idea whats happening and how I could fix the problem?

Answer:windows runs fine in safe mode but normal mode is broken

There are many situations where Safe mode can work well and the normal mode hangs, it may be a suspect/culprit of a hardware/software.

Try the following possible steps for diagnosis in safe mode

1) Go to Control panel -----> Device Manager ------> then check for warnings or error marks which makes the hardware made trouble thus your OS freezes;/ try to uninstsll then check if still persist.

2) Go to Start Menu ----> Click Run -----> then type msconfig -----> go to services and startups then try to untick any possible problems, assume it should not be from Microsoft. Check if still persist.

This option managed to fix by most users which going to BIOS by tapping del key or f2 key (depends on the manufacturer default key command) then change all settings by default, restart and check if still persist.

I had run my Anti-Virus (Avast ) and it found nothing,
I just now opened it (in safe mode) to obtain the official name/version and found it to display a large red banner declaring I am unprotected and the Avast service turned off.
None of those controls on that panel work

Am assuming some infection did this as I did not turn it off!
When I clicked Scan it displays "Unable to start scan. There are no more endpoints available from the endpoint mapper"

This is an Asus G73JW Laptop
Windows 7 SP1
I use
Avast Internet Security
Spybot S&D
CCleaner

Any Idea as to what I have run into here?

Thanks,

Answer:Fine in Safe mode, but in normal mode, icons and Startmenu don't work

Have you performed a System Restore recently?

Download your version of Avast, but don't install it yet.

With the computer offline use the Avast uninstall utility to uninstall your current installation.

Once you have uninstalled the old version, install the version you downloaded.

Hello everyone.  I am trying to fix my mom's computer but have so far been unable.  The laptop is running but it is incredibly slow.  When I first got on it a bunch of pop ops took over the screen.  The computer would randomly go to other sites on it's own.  It would go to a search sight called "clarosearch".  Worst of all, it's incredibly slow.  For example, from the desktop, it take about 45 seconds for the IE window to open when I click on the icon.  It takes about that long to navigate to a page and so fourth. I downloaded and ran a registry cleaner, spybot search and destroy, malwarebytes, and ad-aware.  These found a bunch of problems and cleaned some up, I guess.  The pop ups are gond and so is the strange search site, but the computer is still running just as slow.  It's a paperweight.  Getting another computer isn't really an option right now as my mom is unemployed and we're actually trying to get her resume online but we can't even do that right now with the way the laptop is acting.  I downloaded hijackthis and ran a scan.  Here is the log.    Oh, and as the subject says, the computer runs fast and fine in safe mode.  Please let me know if there is any other info that is needed as I'm not sure what to provide.  Thank you in advance for any help or suggestions you can provide.  Logfile of Trend Micro HijackThis v2.0.4Scan saved at 6:26:57 PM, on 4/26/2014Pl... I'm not sure what causes my BSOD. The errors range from BAD_POOL_HEADER to ntfs.sys to drivers-something.

I am currently running Safe Mode with Networking and things seem stable.

I ran Anti-malware (nothing found), VIPRErescuescanner (nothing), fakereanfix (didn't help), ComboFix (probably made things worse).

Are my drivers up to date? No, probably not, but at this point, I'm scared to change anything else.
Is my windows 7 up to date? No updates installed since Jan 2012, I'm too scared to update anything lest I cause more BSODs.

Minidump attached in next post.

Hey guys I've checked through some of the tuts and what-not on this forum and still can't find a way to get me out of trouble..
i turned my computer on yesterday (23rd September) and there was an automatic update. Ever since the update my computer has been extremely slow (will take several minutes to open firefox -or anything for that matter). I booted safe mode and it's running fine. I opened up msconfig and did a clean boot but the problem was still there.
It's a fairly new build and I was stupid and forgot to get a virus protection i can't install it in safe mode either..

Can anyone help?

Hello,

all of a sudden Windows 7 became extremely slow in normal mode. This doesn't happen in safe mode.

The laptop now also makes 3 beeps on startup, but the beeps disappear when Windows login page comes up. The only thing I did is updating Java and the beeps started.

I'm sending in attachment DDS, OTL and ComboFix logs.

Thanks in advance for your help!

My speedtest.net performance is 30 Mbps download, and between 0.3 and 2.0 Mbps upload. If I start in safe mode with netorking, I get download and upload speeds of 25-30, my contracted speeds. Obviously, something loading in the full mode interferes with upload speed. I have tried restarting in safe mode with all of the items checked in the services and programs tabs in msconfig, and still get excellent up and download speeds. How can I figure out what is interfering with my upload speed in normal mode, but not in safe mode?

Answer:Poor upload speed in normal mode, fine in safe mode

Use msconfig to determine what is causing the problem

How to use msconfig in Windows 7

Click on Start then Run, type msconfig and press Enter.
Click on the Startup tab, record what is currently starting then click the Disable All button.
Reboot and see if it runs better.
If yes then use msconfig to enable several items at a time till you find the culprit.

If no, start msconfig and click on the Services tab.
Check the Hide All Microsoft Services box, record what is currently starting then click the Disable All button.
Again, do a regular boot, see if it runs normal.
If yes then use msconfig to enable services till you find the culprit.

Once you've found the culprit, uninstall it or find out how to eliminate it from your system. Simply disabling it in msconfig is a temporary fix at best.
Enable everything else you disabled.

Honestly, I really don't know where to begin. Every time I try to run my computer in normal mode it restarts and gives me options to run in different safe modes or try normal mode again. My computer runs perfectly fine in safe mode. I haven't added any new programs. It's been this way for some time. I'm currently running sfc /scannow to see if this helps, which I seen it helped on a similar forum on bleepingcomputer. If anyone has anything else to contribute, please feel free.

Hey,

I am having a problem with a laptop, I am getting a blue screen when starting in normal mode, but if I start in safe mode it starts up and logs in fine.

I am not being told what is causing a problem, just to uninstall any new programs/hardware, but nothing has been installed at all.

Does anyone know what could be causing this?

Thanks for any help :)

Hey people, I hope you can lend me a hand.

As the title suggest, I've got a problem with the internet. I found a similar thread in which the problem was found to be Norton, so I followed the steps and removed it using the remover tool but it was to no avail.

I have also looked at the processes on msconfig in safe mode and applied them in normal but this wasn't successful. I also read it could be a problem with the IPSEC Services, which I have now disabled but the problem persists.

Just wondering if you had any ideas and if I need to post any screenies etc.

Cheers,
Rupert

Is it possible for a video card to produce perfectly fine video in safe mode...but when I try to boot into normal mode...I get the XP splash with a bunch of blue vertical lines running through it...It looks like a blue pinstripe suit!! Then it flashes a very quick bit of a BSOD, then it reboots!!

The only thing I can think of is when I changed over into my new case...unplugging the SATA hard drive...but I've never had that problem before!!

Any Ideas!!??

Roger

Answer:Video, normal mode...botched...safe mode, fine

I'd love to know what that BSOD said. Can you turn off automatic reboot?

Just click the Windows key + Pause/Break
or right click on my computer and select properties
Or go to control panel and doubleclick system

Then go to the Advanced tab, the select Settings under "Startup and Recovery", next uncheck the box next to "Automatically Restart" within the System failure box.

Then make it crash and tells us what it says.

Another thing to try is perhaps some program at startup is causing you problems.

Bring up msconfig (start, run, msconfig (enter))
Select the radial button "Selective startup" and uncheck the box next to "Load startup items". Reboot and see if you can play the video. If you can play the video then one of those startup items is causing a bsod.

Good Luck!

ok... my father is begging help here.

he has a ctx computer, specs:

amd k6-ii 266mhz proc
~4gb hdd
unknown ram
integrated graphics
integrated sound
win98

Father is trying to get some files off of the thing before resigning it to davy jones' locker, but is having a little trouble doing so.

when he boots into safe mode, the computer will function properly and everything's perfect. but if he tries to boot into regular mode, everything is fine until he clicks on something. then the screen blanks and redraws w/in a couple seconds, with no other effect... the clicked-on app, file, or folder won't open to save the planet.

i recall there being a clump of psu cables near the cpu hsf... i say that it's the cpu or northbridge overheating, and he says that i am crackers, it's gotta be a mem conflict within windows.

what do you guys think? is it the cpu overheating? the northbridge overheating? a soft mem conflict? or something neither of us are thinking of?

Hello everyone. I have a Compaq SR1954NX Desktop computer that I recently reformatted and installed Windows XP Pro SP3 on. After installing some games and applications, a few days later I shut the computer off for the night. Upon the next morning my USB Mouse, a Creative Fatal1ty 1010, stopped working on it. If I unplugged it and plugged it in a different USB port, it would say "Found device, Creative Fatal1ty Mouse, Your Device is now ready to use." However it still would not do anything. However, upon entering safe mode, it works fine.

I reformatted after this, as I thought it was my mistake, and had only installed one or two small games. However, it just happened again.

Can anyone here help me with this? Thanks in advance.

Hi
I have Thinkpad T43, with windows XP professional.

Since few days whenever i launched my ATI catalyst control center I would get BSOD and laptop will boot automatically and then everything would be fine.

Then while browsing my wife downloaded some media player exe, and since then my IE was redirecting to unknown sites (xalab etc) not to mention various ad pop-ups. One of the online video sites gave a message that I have TROJ/Rustok-N. (Also I would like to mention since couple of months my System Restore was not working although everything else was working fine)

I ran spybot, malawarebytes, trojanremover and removed whatever was reported. But the problem persisted, so I renewed my Norton Internet Security (actually got Norton 360), ran scans but it couldnt find anything.

Then I booted in safe mode and ran all these again, last thing I remember trojanremover prompted to remove something like sv~.exe and i did, when i restarted the system in normal mode I got BSOD and laptop rebooted, I disabled automatic restart on failure but it keeps on doing that.

I then went to Access IBM and restored by configuration which brings back the system files to previous state (the most latest point available was 07/2006)
I still got the BSOD while booting into normal mode, but safe mode was working fine.

I then went into safe mode and disabled couple of services on startup, then my laptop booted fine in normal mode, I found that now windows xp was reset to SP2, so i ran windows update w... Read more

Everything was fine until yesterday morning when my PC locked up and was
forced to do a hard reset with power button. restarted and worked for around 5 mins before doing same, this happened 3 or 4 times before finally
got a blue screen with error 124 ?
Seemed to only lock up when I started a browser either IE9 or Chrome, Ran Malwarebytes it found some stuff but seems to freeze before completing removal. Ran CCcleaner, Ran Spybot S&D, ran avg scan, deleted and reinstalled graphics card drivers as I noticed windows had updated during the night, opened up and hoovered out all dust around fans. downloaded speedfan to check temps, GPU was 62degrees rest were all around 35.
everything works in safe mode with networking, no lock ups, can use any browser fine. this makes me think it must be driver/software/malware/virus related ?
downloaded Hitman in safe mode and ran it, removed a fair bit but still no fix.
did a hard disk defrag, no joy,
System is an Advent, running Vista Home Premium, Service Pack 2, Intel Core 2 quad cpu @2.40GHz 2.00GB RAM, 32bit system
Typing all this in safe mode, can boot and run most things in normal mode but starting any browser is sure to lock it up ??
As a photographer I am lost without my workhorse desktop machine

hopefully included all I know just now

I have an older laptop that is running Windows XP.  This is not my main computer but I do like to use it when I do not want to use tablet or desktop.  It virtually will not browse internet in regular windows mode.  It freezes and takes forever to go from one internet site to another.  However, the internet works fine when in safe mode.  I have Malware Anti Malware Free and AVG 2015 Free.  I have run scans in both safe mode and windows mode and it does not detect anything.  I also have CC Cleaner which I run frequently.  I have downloaded Autoruns and tried to delete some startup loads using your data base.  However, many are not in your data base.  I did find some that I could eliminate on startup but not that many because if it was not in your database, I left alone.  Do you have any other suggestions I could try.  As I said, this laptop is older and not my main computer but I would really like to try and revive it so that I can at least use it sometimes.

Answer:Internet freezes but works fine in safe mode Windows XP

If a client comes to me not only now but, for quite a while now, I will not let them spend time, money, effort or thought on an XP machine.  For starters they absolutely should not be used connected to the Internet.
Certainly @ this point in time, if an XP machine is not working properly, just don't bother w/ it... can't be used on the Net, anyway.  As for non-Net use, still, not worth bothering w/ it.  Time to just let it go & move on.  After 15 yrs, put it out to pasture.

I've had this problem for the past two weeks now. I'm on Vista Home Premium connecting via wireless and the internet only works in safe mode.

In normal mode, there is a connection BUT I can't access any web browsers - I've tried Firefox, Firefox 3, IE 7 and Safari. Meanwhile, even though i can't access the browsers, my messengers ARE working and my programs can run internet updates so not sure what's going on.

I've run Avast, AVG anti-virus, AVG anti-spyware, Spybot, Ad-aware and Smitfraudfix. I also ran Kapersky Online virus scanner but it came up with nothing. The only thing that did come up with results was AVG anti spyware with something called "downloader.psyme.fc" - which i've deleted. I did a system restore which worked but windows automatically updated itself and it stopped working again after I restarted. Since i've made quite so many changes, I don't have any restore points older than a week.

I've searched through the forum for similar problems but can't quite seem to see anything exactly like mine.

I've run two hijack logs since i didn't know which to include - one in safe mode and the other in normal mode.

There is no malicious software.I have gone through Malwarebytes,TDSSKiller,Kaspersky, etc.Nothing was found.
It doesn't entirely freeze.I can move the cursor which usually is a blue circle.Sometimes more things like highlight icons w/ the cursor or the clock keeps going.
Sometimes when I press ctrl+alt+del and open task manager, the programs that didn't open when I clicked on them will open up.Most times pressing ctrl+alt+del does nothing though.
It works fine in Safe Mode and Safe Mode with Networking.I have disabled all start ups and every service except Microsoft ones and restarted in Normal mode.Still the same problem.
I used checkdisk and it said nothing is wrong.
There are random times where it works fine.No specific time of day.It just happens. Most times it is this way though.

Answer:Laptop only works in safe mode.Hangs w/ blue circle in Normal mode.

Did you disable the startup items and services in Safe Mode, and then restart in normal mode?

Essentially what you are trying to do is a Clean Boot, this has to be performed in normal mode.

(2)  Place a check mark in the Hide all Microsoft services check box, this will remove the Microsoft Services from the list but will still be running.

Windows only opens in safe mode, tried reloading drivers, last known good configuration, etc. When in normal mode black screen only, when acessing task manager shows all processes stopped and will not allow me to start them.

Answer:Black screen when start in normal mode, works in safe mode only.

Hello CliffordJ. Microsoft Security Essentials is installed, correct? Many MSE users running Vista (but not all) suffered black screen after login following installation of Update for Microsoft Security Essentials - 4.9.218.0 (KB3140527), released about a month ago. In fact there is already a thread here: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/606422/windows-vista-x64-bksod-after-login-or-no-access-in-normal-mode-suspect-mse/. The posters there disabled MSE 4.9 in Safe Mode by unticking a brand-new setting in the UI (Administrator > Turn on this app). Another method of escaping this situation would be to restore your system to a point before the update was installed, then hide the update in Windows Update. That would allow you to resume using MSE 4.8 if you wish.

I am extremely curious why this happens to many but not all MSE users running Vista. If more advanced forum members ask you for further information, I hope you will cooperate. Above all, I wonder if any other security software with real-time protection is installed (or perhaps improperly uninstalled)? Of course there is a possibility that your issue is something else...

When i enter windows in normal mode it will not let me connect to the internet explorer. But i do play an online game called World of Warcraft and it has no problem connecting me in game to the servers. Then i can enter windows under safe mode with networking and the internet explorer works fine. I went through all the steps of malware cleansing and will attach a hijacking log that i had scanned. Was just wondering what was keeping me from the internet explorer on regular windows.

Answer:IE only works in safe mode, but can connect to games online in normal mode

could be some addons on IE. try IE without addons or another browser. also make sure your firewall is off when troubleshooting.

Win 7 Normal Mode won't start, will go past Starting up Screen and just hit a Black screen and will hit a Crash Dump (blue error screen)..... I can boot into safe mode fine and I have fun CHKSDK and after a reboot it fixed a few problems but I hit the same Crash Dump Screen. I have also made sure my whole pc is all clean and connected, no corroding parts etc etc, made sure my pci-e slot is default etc etc, no luck at all...

Its a new installation and worked fine last night and early this morning after separate boots. But as soon as I booted this afternoon it wouldn't load and would hit the blue error crash dump screen....

So any suggestions?

Just last night My main HDD died also which is why I had to use my secondary HDD as my main....

Answer:Win7 Normal Mode wont boot, Safe Mode works though... Help?

1) When you "ran checkdisk" dis you run it with the "/r" switch? If not, please run chkdsk /r now.2) Download BlueScreenView:http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/blue_screen_view.htmlunzip downloaded file and double click on BlueScreenView.exe to run the program.when scanning is done, go to EDIT - Select AllGo to FILE - SAVE Selected Items, and save the report as BSOD.txtOpen BSOD.txt in Notepad, copy all of the content, and paste it into your next reply

Hi

I have this problem and do not know how to solve it. For some time and up to now I can?t enter in Safe Mode. I can login normally in normal mode, but when I restart and boot in Safe Mode (safe mode, safe mode with networking, or safe mode with command prompt, it is the same), few seconds after appearing in the login screen, Windows freezes. I can type the password + Enter fast and then I see the desktop, but it just then freezes, or I can type slowly and it will freeze during typing, or do nothing and wait in login/lock screen and it will freeze after few seconds...

I have made chkdsk c: /f /r at boot, all is ok!, I have done from admin command prompt sfc /scannow and all dism scan check and restore, everything is ok...I am desesperate as I need to make some tasks from safe mode (clean uninstallations, or simply to have it available in case of problem in normal mode!), and I can?t use it at all!

I have win10 pro with last updates.

Please could you point me to some solution or hint? Thanks a lot!

Not sure exactly what happened but couple days ago the laptop started to hang up or freeze when I tried to run any application, such as a browser, control panel, and even task manager. If I need to turn it off I have to hold the power button which I know is not good but otherwise I would not be able to reboot. If I go into safe mode I can use the computer somewhat sluggish but I can at least open up programs and even get on the internet. I cannot do system restore as this had been turned off. I had a conflicting driver issue that I installed, but that has not helped, I dont know what else to do. Please help this is my only computer.

I am not able to connect to any webpages in normal mode, even after restarting i still have the same problem [However it works in safe mode with networking]. The network connections show that it is connected and the signal strength is excellent. I then have to keep restarting the laptop like 3 to 4 times and it works. Its kind of frustrating to keep doing this all the time and besides i am scared by restarting the laptop so many time can harm it.

What firewall / security suite or anti-virus do you currently have on the PC - or you have ever had on the PC in the past - any trial ware - like Norton, kaspersky or Mcafee or any free security suites like zonealarm, AVG , Webroot etc

Lenovo will also come with a trial ware program - cant remember which
I would also remove AVG 2013 - using the removal tool - see below

have a read here and post back as much info as possible
Pre-posting Requirements - for both Wired and Wireless Connectivity Issues

Normally are you using wireless - and in safe mode with networking - are you still talking wireless

can you connect to the router with a cable and if so does that work in normal mode ?

Lets see an ipconfig /all in both normal and safemode with networking - make sure you also tell us which is which when you post

OK, bit of a puzzle here. I work as a hardware/network technician, but I've never run into this problem before. System is running XP Pro SP2. I have eliminated hardware as an issue. Network card is set to pull a DHCP address from my firewall/router, just like all the other systems. In normal mode, the network connection has a splat on it, saying that it has limited or no connectivity. It shows an IP addy of 169.x.x.x instead of an address from the assigned scope. If I go to a command prompt and try to release/renew, it keeps coming back with a 169.x.x.x addy. In safe mode w/ networking, everything works fine. I can browse the network, get to the internet, etc. The network connection is correctly assigned an addy from the DHCP pool, and everything looks great.

I have used msconfig to disable all startup items as well as all of the non-Microsoft services, but it hasn't made a difference. I have tried using netsh to reset the TCP/IP stack and winsock = no change. I am currently scanning for spyware at ewido.com, but at this point it has mostly found cookies. There is an ActiveX plugin called Downloader.Zlob as well, but it hasn't finished scanning yet, so I don't know if it will find anything else.

I'm almost to the point of running a windows repair from CD just to reset everything, but at this point I'm not sure if anything short of a full reload will work. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Answer:No network connection in normal mode, works in safe mode

Hi palad and Welcome to MajorGeeks,
I'm no network guru but it sounds like you have run through most of the troubleshooting steps.
Any new programs or updates added that may have affected the comp? Try uninstall and reinstall.
Any indications in the system logs?
Someone else may have some other options for you.

If you suspect malware, go through this procedure - http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=35407
and post the requested logs. The guys in Malware can fix you up if you do have something.

Ive been having this problem for a few days now, when I start the computer, after a few minutes,no matter what I am doing or if I am not doing anything,it will freeze, the mouse and keyboard wont work and the clock stops, the 2 little monitors that show my internet connection stop flashing too...sometimes,it freezes for a few seconds and then works, and the same thing happens over and over again until it finally freezes forever...other times,it just freezes once and stays there,Ive waited hours for it to work and nothing...

the only solution is to shut down using the button, and I know that is not a good thing to do..I did a system restore,I restored it to a day before the problem started, but when it restarted to finish the restore it froze again and the restore wasnt completed,I had to shut it down pressing the button and I realized later that I lost all the restore points I had...

I have a Toshiba A135-S4467 laptop that would freeze on the windows load screen so I replaced the hard drive after several attempts at formatting and reloading that were unsuccessful. I put in the new hard drive and completely installed windows but it still freezes at load up, I did get it to start a couple times but the CPU would peg at 100% and would freeze up after about 20 seconds. It will however start and run in safe mode.

Hi there to who ever may be reading.

First of all thanks for taking a look at my issue, the problem as follows :

It shuts down (ie turns off, need to manually press the power button to boot up again) when getting to windows xp desktop.

what i have tried so far:
complete reformat windows xp home

complete reformat windows xp pro

taken the battery out of the motherboard for 30 secs then putting it back in(sometimes this works and it did for a while inabling me to install some softwarelike mobo drivers then after
reboot the problem persisted)

Following that i have tried different batterys and no battery at all each not solving the issue

started in safe mode and installed service pack 3

cleaned processor and heat sink

tried different psu

tried different hard drive (with fresh install)

I originally thought it would be a power issue but i have left it on overnight in safe mode as a test and it never shut down. It only seems to shut down in normal mode! i thought it might be a software issue but i have reinstalled it with different discs and different versions.

I dont think it is a hardware issue as it doesnt turn off when in safe mode, but then i dont think its a software issue because of the multiple clean installs that i have done. So i really dont know.

Please, sombody put me out of my misery. . . . What is wrong with my computer!

i have mozilla firefox 3 and yesterday, i did a system restore because my computer was not working, you know, the usual viruses etc. system restore has made my computer normal again except for some problems.

first, a message popped up every time i logged into my account: "one of the libraries needed to run this application could not be found." i'm not sure what application it was referring to! mozilla firefox is not working, every time i open it, it says the connection is interrupted. internet explorer also does not work but msn does work, so i am connected to the internet. mozilla does work in safe mode though. i've turned firewalls off as well. also, my trend micro internet security doesn't work, i can't open it, so i removed it frm my pc and installed avg free 8.

please, i'm not that great with computers so any help will be REALLY APPRECIATED!

Hey guys, I seem to be having trouble, and I'm not terribly inclined with laptops and computers, mine is an HP G62 laptop, and that's about as far as I know about it. The other day I went to use it, opened it up, I had 3 tabs open (google chrome), and I tried to open a new tab. All new tabs were freezing, and my itunes had frozen as well. I tried closing the laptop, hoping it would go into sleep mode, but it didn't, it stayed running. I reopened it and the screen stayed off, so I did a hard reset (holding the power button to turn it off) and started it back up. I started it in normal mode, and logged on, but after loading from the log on screen, it went to a black screen with just the cursor, and stayed there. I did another hard reset, and started it in safe mode, and now this is how I'm currently running. I've tried disabling the display drivers and restarting, that worked momentarily, but froze shortly after. Next, I tried a system restore, which did absolutely nothing, and then I ran chkdsk and, again, nothing. After all this, I decided to try uninstalling the display drivers, which, once again, did nothing. This seems to be all the info I have gathered from online, and through friends' help, there seems to be nothing left to do that may fix this problem. Anyone have any idea on where to go from here?

Answer:Black Screen in Normal Mode. Only Safe Mode Works.

Hello ericberard,

You?re having a problem with the computer going to a black screen.

First test the hardware.

Turn off the computer

As you power it back on, tap the F2 key. This will load hardware diagnostics.

Once the screen loads run the startup test.

If this is windows 7 and the startup test pass.

Power back off the computer.

As you power it back on, tap the F8 key. This will load Advanced Boot Options.

Select Last Known Good Configuration.

This will take the system back to when everything was working correctly.

Clicking the White Kudos star on the left is a way to say Thanks!

Let me know how everything goes.

Have a good day.

Greetings.
As the headline above says i have this problem for few days now, and still can't solve it.
First day when it happened it turned off only once, and after that i turned it on normally and it worked fine.
Second day it happened few times, but i managed to "make it through".
But today it is impossible, whenever i want to go on Normal Mode it turns off, and i am writing this in safe mode with networking option.
I asked my friend on the phone about it (not really useful when you're asking for help on the phone), he told me to try to to turn off some startup programs in System Configuration Utility, so i removed some and i left only my anti-virus program, some nVidia thing, probably a driver i don't know, and some win32.dll file ,that is pretty much important i think. I even tried to restore my system backing it few days backwards and both of these options worked! - for 30 minutes or so, until it turned off again.
I really don't know what else can i do.
I am well acquainted with a bit more than computer basics, but something really advanced has yet to be learned.
So please, help me solve this, i can't think of anything else, the only thing i am sure is that this problem is not a hardware problem.
The last option for me is reinstalling windows, but if you can help that it won't come to that.

Hi Majestic616, welcome to the forums.

To be honest, it does sound suspiciously like malware..especially the win32.dll listing in msconfig. Your restore point is most probably infected too, hence why the problems reoccur after using system restore.

Your best option is to follow the instructions in the link below:

Here's the situation: my daughter and I open her computer to clean it and have a look at the video card. We pull the card blow out the dust and reinsert it. We also pull one of two memory cards (to see what's in there) blow out the dust and reset that.

Now hit start button: Windows begins to boot, it finds the drives, then we see the Windows screen - the three bars dance across their track - but we get a black screen that says: Sorry, We apologize Windows failed to start. There may have been hardware or software changes blah blah blah...then it asks if I want to start in Safe Mode, Safe Mode with Networking, or Normal Mode.

Safe Mode works just fine. No issues using any hardware or software.

But if I try to start normally, it quickly tries to reboot, shutting down the video output (the monitor goes into no signal - energy saving mode) then the process start a new.

We made no changes! We opened it back up and made sure all the cables and connections were secure. But no luck.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Answer:Internet Works in Safe Mode, but not in normal windows XP home edition

Need more cowbell.

Does it get an IP? On a network? Any errors? What else is it doing?

That's kind of like telling a mechanic "my car rattles".

Whenever I try to startup in a normal mode, it always restarts. The windows log icon just appears then restarts again and again, until I boot to safe mode. (safe mode with networking also works)

I think my PC is infected
however, i cannot go on with the procedure in the sticky thread because it requires the Msconfig to be set for Normal Startup mode.

what should I do?

I've cleaned the registry through CCleaner and also tried system restore but nothing worked.

:cry

Answer:PC works only on safe mode, not in normal mode

Welcome! to MajorGeeks.com!

Please follow the instructions in the below link and attach the requested logs when you finish these instructions.

READ & RUN ME FIRST. Malware Removal Guide

If something does not run, write down the info to explain to us later but keep on going.

Do not assume that because one step does not work that they all will not.
Notes:
If you run into problems trying to run the READ & RUN ME or any of the scans in normal boot mode. You can run steps in safe boot mode but make sure you tell us what you did later when you post logs. See the below if you do not know how to boot in safe mode:

Starting your computer in Safe mode

If you have problems downloading on the problem PC, download the tools on another PC and burn to a CD. Then copy them to the problem PC. You will have to skip getting updates if (and only if) your internet connection does not work. Yes you could use a flash drive too but flash drives are writeable and infections can spread to them.

My computer just recently started freezing on me randomly.....and re-starting randomly and won't work in normal mode.  In normal mode, it usually freezes up early in the booting up process....sometimes just after I login.  I start up in safe mode and things seem to work fine.  I haven't downloaded anything or changed any settings.  Any ideas?  Your help is appreciated...thank you.

I recently re-formatted my Sony VAIO since it was starting to run super slow. Now that I re-installed Windows 7 on it through recovery disks, it worked fined for about a day but then the problem came back. The computer is slow at bootup and runs super slow while freezing so many times. I am running it on safe mode right now and its working fine.

I ran hardware diagnostics and everything is fine (Memory, Hard Disk etc.)

I installed Norton Antivirus and Windows Live Messenger after the re-install.

Please help me.
