Need upgrade, will this card work in my System?

Question: Need upgrade, will this card work in my System?

I found a Video card for a upgrade and wondering if it is both compatible with my Mobo and my AGP slot ( I know I have and older Mobo but this should keep it alive for a while longer).
Here are my system specs and a link to the card.

System Specs
Intel D865GBF Intel Desktop Mobo
80GB Internal EIDE HDD
500GB External HDD W/ Fire wire connection or High speed USB 2.0
AGP 2x 4x or 8x 1.5 volt
Two Pentium 4 processors running at 3.0GHz

Preferred Solution: Need upgrade, will this card work in my System?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Need upgrade, will this card work in my System?

I have an older Optiplex 745, service tag CTV82D1.  I upgraded it about three months ago to Windows 10 and now I cannot read files from two different compact flash readers or from my Canon camera.
The power lights on the readers illuminate, but the USB doesn't recognize them.  One is a Stanley Global, the other is a Sony.
The USB thumb drives function I try function normally.  Any suggestions?

Answer:Card readers won't work after upgrade to W10

The computer needs Windows 10 drivers for the installed hardware to work. Unfortunately, the computer is not verified to run Windows 10 and no Windows 10 drivers were created.

Answer:Sound card does not work after XP home to Pro upgrade

Sorry but I have no explanation for that. I can recommend to you to remove the sound card from device manager and restart the unit. After restart the soundcard should be recognized and installed properly.

It will be interesting to know which notebook model you have.

I've heard that it's not possible to upgrade the wireless card to a non-lenovo supplied one in these laptops unless you rollback the BIOS to an old hacked version which I do not want to do. Is there a way to get a wireless AC card to work in my laptop without doing anything with the BIOS? If I have to buy one from lenovo is there any easy way to do that? Thanks,Kyle K

Every time I find the key to success, someone changes the lock.

Answer:Looking to upgrade wireless card to AC in my X220t. What will work?

The bios whitelist prevents such upgrade. You would need a BIOS firmware that doesn't have the whitelist to enable you to use an AC capable card.

Prior to upgrade to Windows 10, this machine was running Windows 7 Ultimate without problem.  I frequently use the SD Card reader in the machine to upload Photos I have taken with my Camera.  After upgrade to Windows 10 the machine does not recognize the very same SD card.  I have contacted Microsoft windows 10 support about this problem.  They poked around in the machine and had no answer. I think an appropriate driver is needed from HP to make the SD Card reader in the machine work.  Please help! I am using a work around now.  I use an SD to USB adapter to load my photos but this is not the way the process should work. Again, please help!

Answer:SD Memory Card Reader does not work after Windows 10 Upgrade

Hi @krmiller?, I checked the support page for your computer, and I only see Windows Vista and Windows 7 drivers, no Windows 10 (not even Windows 8). Your computer was released in June 2009 -- it will probably not get updated drivers for Win10. From HP Desktop PCs - Upgrading to Windows 10: If you purchased your computer prior to August 2013, HP has not tested or developed drivers for your computer model. Some features might not work, or the installation might not be successful.HP provides Windows 10 compatible software and updated drivers to support only specific computer models. If the SD card reader issue is the only problem you're having after upgrading, believe me, it could be worse. The USB card reader you're using now as a workaround is probably the best solution. If it's enough of a deal-breaker for you, there is an option to go back to Windows 7 as long as you're within the first 28 days of having upgraded -- instructions are at the bottom of the upgrading document.

There seems to be much debate on the best compatible graphics card for the dell optiplex 760 MT. I am trying to install the BEST card that will be supported by stock components. I do not wish to upgrade the PSU or MOBO or CPU. I just need to know which card is going to give me the best power without any other changes.
I have:

RAM: 8GB (4x2GB)
PSU: 305W
Video Card: ATi Radeon 9200

I bought an EVGA GTX 750Ti 2GB GDDR5 (superclocked), and unfortunately it DOES NOT FIT. The only PCI slot it could be plugged into is the top slot. The card would face upward, and the bracket is a double, so it will not fit at the top slot. Is there a way to order a single slot pci bracket, because it would fit if it were single.

Answer:Optiplex 760 MT ( direct3D will not work / video card upgrade)

Radeon 9200 is going backwards.  You must have at LEAST 128 megs of VIDEO ram and the 9200 has 32 megs of VIDEO ram.

ASUS EAH6450 fits in ALL Models All Sizes EXCEPT USFF.

ASUS Silent cards fit in all models with X16 video slot. Meaning it doesnt fit USFF because USFF has Zero Slots. These cards fit and work in every dell I have ever tried.
They fit into every Dell Except USFF.

?PCI-e x16 2.0 Will this work with my card?PCI-e 2.0 doubles the bus standards bandwidth from 2.5 Gbit/s to 5 Gbit/s,Meaning an x32 connector can transfer data at up to 16 GB/s in each direction.PCI-e 2.0 is completely backwards compatible with PCI-e v1Graphic cards and motherboards designed for v2.0 will be able to work with v1.1 and v1.0, and vice versa. There aren't many video cards yet that makes full use of the extra bandwidth of the V2 specification

I have a computer that is about 5-6 years old. It is a Tosh Satellite, and it came with XP. About 3 years ago, I had a guy upgrade the os to win 7 ultimate. I knew at the time that doing that was difficult, but this guy is talented and I knew that the computer only needed to work for another year or two before I bought a new one. lol

Now I have two new computers, one for home and one for work. Both have w7 home on them. The old computer is still working great, so I want to give it to a friend who has no computer and can't afford one. But I want to remove my data. There isn't really much on it that is sensitive, but I would still like to reformat it at least. The problem is that I do not have system recovery disks for the win 7. So I have three options, or more if someone can suggest something:
1) Use the recovery disks that came with the computer and restore it to factory, and xp.

2) Create a recovery image and try to reformat the disk with that, but my concerns are that this was a win7 upgrade from xp. Would that matter?

3)Can I create recovery disks or a recovery image on my new computer that has win 7 home, and format the old computer HD with them?

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Answer:Will a system image work to restore win 7 that was an upgrade from xp?

Hello dmcrose, and welcome to Seven Forums.

Doing a system image recovery will restore your complete computer back to the exact same state it was in when you created the system image.

Hope this helps,

Hi, i just bought a new video card. But when i installed it, the monitor kept giving me a "No Signal" error. BFG told me to reinstall the drivers for the old onboards graphic and then disable it. This did not help at all. Then they told me to upgrade my motherboard drivers. This also didn't change anything. She then said it might just be a defective video card. Any suggestions? Try the card in another suitable (PCI-E) system if possible.Another thing you can try is resetting the motherboard CMOS. Usually it's just a case of temporarily changing a jumper position, then reverting to the original before booting up again. Your motherboard manual will tell you how to do this. Why did you change the graphics card may I ask? The 9500 is probably only marginally better. G

My current card can run The Sims 3 on the minumum possible settings at an outstanding 7 frames per second. Jealous much?

In case you didn't realise, I really wanna replace this hunk of junk. As stated it can barely run The Sims 3 let alone any other games.

I want to replace it with a ATi HD 4850. The 1GB DDR3 version.

However, I need to know if its going to be compatible with my computer. I currently have a 250W power supply without a PCI-E connector. So I need to replace that. But money is tight, I need to keep the combined cost of the PSU and the graphics card under £135.

My AGP GEFORCE 256 has broken, fan has packed in but it was linked to a DVD hardware accelerator card so playing dvd's is a no no. It is a P111, 384mb ram. Would this card work in my system Nvidia Abit Siluro Geforce 4 Ti 4200 128MB 8X AGP OTES? I have done a bit of research but totally lost. My PSU is 200 watt according to the DELL spec. PC was bought 1999. I heard gone things about the ti 4200 so it may be ok for dvd's using software. If my spec is too old say so I wont be distraught I can try for a second card like I had already. My port is 4 x agp I think but cant find out what the wattage required for the ti 4200 is!sanap

Difficult to say, even Abit click here don't quote power requirements, but I feel that 200W is likely to be a bit low. If it's only the fan that's gone on the old card, why not replace it click here .

ok i know this system is very very old. Infact it is 7 years old, but it does great for the internet, & my son's school work...... (Keeps him from junkin up my system.. Anyway todays internet sometimes requires better graphics than the 32 mb in this system. :cry
System Specs: Compaq 5bw131, Intel Celeron 667 MHz, upgraded: 512MB ram, Upgraded: Hard drive 120 Gig, Upgraded: Windows XP SP2. 1 PCI Slot available, no AGP slots.
Now I was talking to an HP service tech which told me that this system has a 145 watt power supply so the graphics card I am looking at will not work. The graphics card that I am looking at requires a 250 watt power supply, I am assuming that this is the top end Power, cause I hear that most Graphics cards normally run less power. Will this work with my system anyway? If not anyone know of a place where i can get a PCI Graphics card that will match my system?
Anyway thanks in advance, Killians

Answer:Graphics Card Upgrade for old system.

I think your quest is a difficult one, with the power supply you have in that computer. I really think you need to consider replacing the power supply if you want to upgrade the video. And, before you buy a power supply, I believe you need to verify that you're not limited to using only a Compaq proprietary power supply in your computer. In other words, will a standard ATX power supply fit in it or not? Sorry, I don't have the answer to that.

Here are the specifications for my Desktop. It's a bit old now, yes. But I'm wondering if I HAVE TO install a Graphics Card that is runs on DDR Memory, can I make it run on DDR2? Because honestly I see a lot of low performance DDR Graphics cards. Please help and thank you.

Also the motherboard specifications says it can be upgraded up to 2 GB of RAM. But Compaq says only 1 GB. Is it because the Desktop is running on Windows XP Home Edition? I really which I can upgrade it to at least 2 GB. Please and thank you, I just want a decent PC that can play games like Fallout 3 and run applications more smoothly, if it's not worth it, I will buy a new PC. look for TNT2 or Geforce 2mx at the most. The i740 card was
not able to run 3D intensive games but after updating to

Hi, I'm new to this forum, and hope to get some advice on what to do about this....

My nephew would like to upgrade his system for gaming. Here's his current setup:

Asus CUV4X mobo, 1 Ghz PIII Processor, AGP 4x
128 MB SDRAM (PC133)
32 MB ATI Graphics Card

I know what you're thinking...scrap this and get a new system! But I'm looking for some affordable options. My initial thought was to upgrade the video card (nVidia or ATI) and add more RAM. But...from what I've been told, it seems like the only option that may improve performace is to go with a PCI Video Card (e.g. ATI Radeon 9250 PCI 256MB). Is this true? Would I be able to upgrade to an AGP card instead?

He does not need to have the latest and greatest, but wants to be able to play most 3d games.

Any guidance is appreciated!

Answer:Graphics card upgrade on old system ??

Well, the best AGP card you can get is AGP 4X, and that won't play very many recent gamess.

Also, PC133 is incredibly slow, won't really matter if you get him 1GB, it's still not going to play today's games.

The 1GHz CPU...well same as the others.

What games does your nephew want to play? If it's recent stuff, i dont think ANY amount of ugrading on that machine will do the trick.

You might benefit from at least finding an Athlon XP system, 1.8GHz, 512MB PC2100, Radeon 9200. Very cheap.

I have a desktop system which is quite old. But it was quite decent to play some of the games infact still now there is not any issues in it.

Recently some of the new games stopped working in my desktop. Tekken 7 for example gave me an error which says "graphics card doesn't meet minimum requirements". I dont have quite a powerful graphics card in my system that may be the reason. But surprisingly the same game worked on my office's desktop which was Dell Optiplex 3040 with no graphics card and i5 processor.

Here is the snap of my system...

Do I need to upgrade the graphics card only or the whole system. If possible I would like to spend my whole budget for decent graphics card if upgrading only it can solve the issue...

Answer:Do I have to upgrade Graphics Card only or the whole System

The Intel Core 2 Duo E6550 2.33 GHz processor in your old desktop (no description given) has Intel GMA 3100 integrated graphics.
Both are too weak for gaming.

You didn't describe the Intel Core i5 processor in your Dell OptiPlex 3040 desktop, but it's a faster one than the E6550, and it has better Intel integrated graphics.
That's why you have better success with gaming in it.

Optical DrivesHL-DT-ST DVD+-RW GHB0N
AudioRealtek High Definition Audio
I'm using the power supply that came with the computer (I assume 300W?) along with the above specs. So my question is will this video card upgrade work with my Dell Inspiron 3847? And if so, will I need a new power supply, or can I keep the one that came with the computer? If this upgrade isn't realistic, then a recommendation for the right direction to go towards would be appreciated as I am very new to messing with computer hardware/building or upgrading a computer.
I heard that the size of the video card could be a problem for the Dell Inspiron 3847, but this one is only 1.5 x 5.7 x 4.38 inches according to Amazon, so I'm pretty sure it is small enough for the case.
If anyone can help a newbie out then that would be greatly appreciated. If I am missing any details that are needed so you can help me I will try to provide with those if I can.

Good day all!

I am contemplating purchasing a GeForce 4 Ti4200. They have come WAY down in price and are looking pretty good.

I currently have a GeForce 2 MX 440.

My computer is a P3 1 Gig with 512PC133 RAM.

I have noticed that I am having a hard time playing newer games like CFS3, IL2 FB and Unreal 2 without massive stutter.

Would I notice a difference? Is it worth the upgrade?

I f I spent the money I would expect a BIG improvement.

Thanks for your advice.

Been experiencing something I can't figure out for about a month. It seems ever since I upgraded my video card to an ATI Radeon X1300 Pro I can't get my system to utilize various power saving settings like hibernate. Today I got my electric bill and I really think the higher than average usage is attributible to this problem. Any suggestions?

Answer:System won't hibernate since video card upgrade

This happened to me to when I upgraded to an ATI All in Wonder x800xl. I used to have an Geforce fx 5200 and hibernate worked but ever since i upgraded it did not. Right now i just use standby, but I would also like to use hibernate when I am gone for longer times. Anyone have an idea?

Hello all I need help, I have a pc 400 MB model# M925 it has built in video agp, i am installing a "G e Force mx400 agp card from nVidia 63mb DDR card"
when i install the card the system does not boot i get no video and the HD doesnt even boot only the fan runs, I went into my BIOS settings to pci/plug and play settings and went to option primary graphics adapter, its says that my default settings will allow the use of a second display card in the agp slot.
I dont have any jumper setting options for the card, i thought the card was bad so i got another just like it from the store and same thing? I dont know if i need to install the drivers first using the onboard video card, i dont know what is going wrong, the installation is very easy seems like the MB doesnt support this AGP card it acts as if it was shorted, when i remove the new AGP card and plug the ct to the built in video all is fine? my MB book says " 4 x AGP slot is used to install a graphics adapter that supports the 4xAGP specification and has a 4xAGP edge connector" what exactly is an edge connector? the agp slot in the MB has no partitions to divide the pins but the new agp card has 3 separated slots it fits perfect in the mb's agp slot could it be that this type of agp card is not compatible with my mb? Please help

Will it work? I don't want it to blow up my computer. I have:

eMachines 1161-07
Windows Vista Home Premium
2.10 GHz processor speed
3 GB of RAM

This comp came with an nVidia geforce 6150e I think that's what it's called. How do I check power supply, card slot type, etc. Thanks in advance.

Answer:Solved: Will nVidia GeForce 9400GT graphics card work with my system?

Looks like you do have a PCI express X16 slot for a card.
The 6150 is integrated.
That 250 watt power supply is weak, even for a 9400GT.

Hi there,
I hope some one can help me here. I have a Windows XP pro Evesham PC tower case with an Athlon Processor 2100X, I read several postings about upgrading USB 1.1 to 2.0 and I bought a USB 2.0 PCI card and installed it in a slot where there was previously a three point firewire card. Since installing this card my USB mouse freeezes or jumps all over the place. Especially when other USB devices are plugged in for example my webcam and the sound card crackles and thuds constantly. What is going on? Any clues would be gratfeully appreciated. Cheers

Hello, I have recently noticed my 1TB drive is not giving performance as expected.Performance on windows 10 was terrible and i had to downgrade back to windows 8. i am planning to add Samsung 850 EVO 120 GB mSATA 2-Inch SSD into pci express mini card slot and load OS on SSD and keep 1tb hdd too.has anyone done such upgrade on G510?

Answer:Planning to upgrade system g510 with pci express mini card SSD

HI jigargajra ,
Welcome to the Community Forums.
The PCI Express Mini Card mentioned for this model supports : ? Wimax / WIFI × 1? SSD × 1  (page 29HMM)
So your plan would work , sacrificing your wifi functionality .
For further reference : ( this thread previously discussed options)
- To install Windows on the SSD, you can either clean install a retail copy or migrate the OS from the HDD to the SSD.
- OS Migration (using Paragon Backup & Recovery Home)
- Disk Cloning (using Macrium Reflect)
On those discussion , you can also read on other options for SSD added to your unit.
Hope this answered your query on your planned upgrade .

I assume so, but it never hurts to make sure. The card I'm talking about is the Nvidia GeForce GTX 670. I currently use the GTX 460 SE, which recommends at least 450W of system power. I may end up going with the GTX 660, which requires the same amount of power as my 460 SE.

Answer:Will a Graphics Card requiring 500W of system power work fine with my 650W PSU?

Yes, more available power is never a bad thing and the system will only draw as much as it needs. Just make sure it's a quality brand unit otherwise if it's some cheap unit then the wattage numbers are pretty much irrelevant.

I'm using a Dell Inspiron 1750 bought in 2009 running Windows Vista. I upgraded to Windows 7 OS. I need to find a Fireward card that fits into the port on the side of my laptop so that I can hook a video camera and download movies. When I pop the plastic card out it's NOT 1 straight edge but it's offset - 1 part of the plastic cards goes deeper than the other side. So, I very recently graduated and as a congratulations, my brother-in-law gave me a brand new Nvidia 9800GTX for my computer. I was running Windows 7 Professional 64-bit when I installed it and I immediately saw a drastic increase in performance. However, when I turned my computer off for the night, I noticed that it would hang at the shut down screen and never actually turn off.

Refusing to believe that the new card was at fault, and having next to nothing on my C partition after my most recent formatting, I decided to go ahead and reinstall Windows to hopefully fix the issue. This is where my other problems started in. Suddenly Windows Explorer was crashing whenever I tried to use my disk drive and my system would randomly lock up. After assuming my install went wrong, I tried reinstalling twice more and neither worked.

Finally, I got fed up and reinstalled my 32-bit copy of Windows 7 Professional and it still didn't work. As of now I've removed the new card and put my old 9500GT back in to find that I'm not having a single problem with the 9500. Does anyone know of any solutions to this? I'd really love to use my new card, but it's obviously causing some pretty serious errors.

Answer:Windows Explorer crashes and system freezing after video card upgrade

What are you using for a power supply? The 9800GTX recommends a minimum 450W supply with 2 - 6-pin connectors. It draws 140W.

The additional power being drawn by the card and the hard drive at the same time may be maxing out your power supply. If the supply is old it is not putting out its maximum rating anymore too.

You could also disconnect the power to all other components except the hard drive and video (including USB devices) and test to see if the issue goes away when drawing less power.

This Toshiba Tecra S1 Laptop is a 6-7 years old with a Centrino M 1.4 MHz cpu, ATI 9000 graphics, and running XP Pro with SP3. I did a number of clean ups and tweaks and upgrades, i.e. two gigs of PC2100 and new harddrive.

The wireless card is only a/b which is slow. So installed a Belkin G MIMO PCMCIA Card over a year ago and disabled the Intel wireless. (Did not use this laptop a lot but my home is now wireless with a Access Point N connected via ethernet wire to my wired Linksys G Router).

In the begiing the Belkin connected to the full 54mbs and sometimes a little less. But eventually it began to freeze my whole system. Here are the cliff notes.

1. Never inserted the card until all drivers loaded.

2. Inserted card and let the firewall and antivirus do their job; if not system froze.

3. Believing it might be the Avast and it's a) real time protection and b) attempts to update, I temporarily paused the Avast.

4. This seemed to work but if I tried to connect too soon the Online Armor firewall would freeze. So I learned to wait and then I could connect to internet.

5. The Belkin always found the AP but even then it could freeze and I couldn't open anything; not even to shut-down unless I pressed the power button.

6. Sometimes I could get online for a bit but then it would freeze.

7. Came to find out one problem is that Windows would automatically switch from using the Belkin Utility back to it's own utility. Even if I save to ... Read more

Answer:Upgrade to G MIMO via Belkin PCMCIA card now perpetually freezing the system

Is that PCMICA red in color or blue in color on white? I use the red one Version 5 never game me any issues from Belkin. You might want to disable the Belkin wireless tool and use WZC from XP. That's what I had ended up using. Belkin one seems to freeze up more. So go into the Belkin tool and tell it you don't want it to manage the wireless but setup your wireless info and encryption into it and then tell it you want to use WZC. You could force it not to load also. Check services or Startup Manager. I won't recommend disabling any features of the PCMICA card. Though go into the BIOS and disable any onboard wireless though.

Hi TechSpot folk, and thanks for in advance for anyone who can help me.

I've bought myself a new video card yesterday; HIS Radeon X1650 Pro 512mb IceQ, AGP. I went ahead to install it, and I get no picture after booting up.

I am receiving a signal to the monitor (I am not getting a "check signal" message) but no image comes to the PC. I went to put my old card in which is a Gigabyte 128mb 9600 Pro, and it now it doesn't work either!!!

Both cards are receiving power as theirs fans are chugging along.

I had also purchased a 1gig stick of RAM to complement my new video card, so I set my PC up the way it was before the attempted installation of the new card. Still nothing happening.

Current components of PC are:

P4 2.8ghz (D865PERL)
Gigabyte Radeon 9600 Pro 128mb
512mb RAM
DVD and Lite-On burner

Answer:New video card install no good, now older card doesn't work either

I don't know about the 9600 Pro but the X1650 Pro should have a power connector on it. Possibly a floppy drive type connector. Was that plugged in?

Answer:lost cd-romdrive while installing graphics card card doesn,t work right either

Welcome to the forum Ray and Julia,

Recheck all the cables and make sure they are plugged in properly.

When you install a new video card you have to remove ALL drivers for the old card.
Uninstall the drivers for the old card in Add/Remove Programs and if you don't have the option there, check in Control Panel/Device Manager and make sure there are not 2 cards showing under Display Adapters. If the old one is still showing, Highlight it and click Remove.

Uninstall the new video card drivers, restart then re-install the new drivers.

I want to connect our old system purchased in early 2000 with no network card, and our new system that has an Integrated Intel PRO 10/100 Ethernet. I prefer to use a wired router as opposed to a wireless, as I think this will have the least amount of problems. So I know we need a router, cables for each system to connect to the router, network cards in each computer, and then the modem is connected to the router. Is there anything else I need?

I have already installed additional RAM in our computer so I think I could install a network card (unless it is more complicated than that). Since I'm not very good with all the technical jargon I wasn't exactly sure what to look for in the old system's information with regards to a network card. This is what I found: Networking PCI card; expansion cards - 10 & 100Mbps network card; full-length 32 bit PCI expansion card slots. What should I look for to install on this computer? I am not so concerned with file sharing, I think I can tackle that later (unless it has to be done right away when setting up a network). Right now we just want to be able to use our computers at the same time and have them both be connected to the internet.

Dell Dimension XPS T600r
Intel Pent III 600E MHz
256 RAM (I will also be adding another 256)
IE 6

The new system:
Dimension E510
Intel Pent 4 630 w/HT (3.0GHz, 800FSB)
1GB @ 400MHz
WINS XP Media Center 2005

Answer:How to connect an old system with no network card and a new system with a card?

You won't have any problems, a easy way is to put a PCI ethernet card in the old pc and connect the two boxes with a crossover cable and add a second card to the new box and connect the crossover cable to that. Then enable internet connection sharing in the new box. The other way is like you said use a router.

hi guys. i have an lsi logic 20320 pci-x scsi card, and I accidentally flashed it with the incorrect bios/firmware while attempting to upgrade it. now the card will not boot up and is unusable. is there any way to restore or change the firmware/bios on it now? the reason i can't do it is because i can't boot to a floppy or command prompt BEFORE the scsi bios tries to boot the card up. once the scsi card tries to boot up, it displays "hardware malfunction" and freezes and/or reboots the system. and there is no way to bypass or prevent the card from starting up. i have tried adding an additional scsi card and booting into a command prompt after IT boots up, but my pci bus will only recognize one scsi card at a time, so this doesn't work. and obviously , i can not repair the card from within windows, because i can not even get into windows with the card installed. any assistance would be GREATLY appreciated, as I have searched the internet for a long time now, and talked to numerous clueless tech support reps about this.

I would say you are probably hosed, unless you can get ahold of another card that may be damaged in some other way and have someone really good to swap the chips.

I can't update the driver on the video card because this is so old, but it's running Windows 10 without a hiccup except for the video latency--skips like crazy--Didn't have the problem with XP: just after the upgrade. Hi everyone....

Current PC specs listed above ..... to get it out of the way I am a gamer......

This upgrade is to allow me to play some of the newer games such as The Witcher and also to enable me to utilize DX10 when I eventually upgrade to Vista.

RAM.....this is what I have found...I do not overclock and I am very happy with the matched pair of Corasir XMS 512MB 5400C4 running at 533 that I currently have so I figured the safe bet is in just jumping to a matched pair of 1MB sticks of the same.....

Graphics card.....

I do have a budget and from the reviews I have read this card should carry me through the gaming world for at least the next year (hopefully 2) I like eVGA and I have nothing but good things to say about the eVGA 6800GS that I am currently using.

But if anyone has some input as to problems with the card listed below or if you know of another card that will perform just as well (or better) for around the same price I would like to hear about it.

Thanks in advance for any help.......

I recently bought a 1GB SD card and have tried to plug it into the 5-in-1 card reader built into my A100-163. Nothing appears in My Computer. I tried going to device manager and under 'disk drives' appears 'Secure Digital Storage Device' with a little yellow ! mark. I tried updating the SD Module Driver, but everytime i do that, the installer comes up with an error basicly saying it can find SD Secure Module.msi. It is trying to find it in an obscure temp folder which to me implies the installer is not extracting properly.

Can anyone help me read my SD card? Please help!

UPDATE: On the odd occassion, it will appear in My Computer as "Secure Digital Storage Device". When i double click on it, it says:

"E:\ is not accessible. THe request could not be performed because of an I/O device error."

Hello Mike

One thing confuses me. If the unit has ?factory settings? the multi card reader should be configured properly. Do you use your own OS installation?

Anyway, try to remove ?Secure Digital Storage Device? from device manager and restart the unit.

My friend had been having some trouble with his graphics card, it kept crashing during games, and eventually seemed to burn out all together. So he bought a new one.

When he installed it, the network was gone, he had to reinstall his network card drivers, then he updated his graphics card drivers. Everything seems peachy.

He loaded up starcraft II, and the game crashes to desktop everytime, He can't even select a mode to play. So he uninstalled the drivers and reinstalled them. Now the game loaded up just fine, and he can play... BUT when it loads up the network crashes and he has to reinstall the network drivers.

After the computer restarts he loaded up starcraft II, and now it crashes again. So it seems like everytime he updates the network drivers it screws up the graphics card, and everytime he updates the graphics card drivers it screws up the network card.

I've never heard of a problem like this so I'm at a loss to help.

Hi,I'm interested in buying this Lexar 133x SDHC Card:, I want to use it as another storage drive (as opposed to putting in my camera or other device).  So after I insert it, I want to be able to format it and use it as another storage area.  Would this card work? The reason I'm gravitating to that card is that is that I see in the specs that is minimum 20MB/sec read transfer rate and it does not take up one of my USB slots. However, even if it does work, would I be better off with their Echo ZX plug-and-forget it USB drive when they ship it?: both work, which would be faster as a storage drive? Thanks.

It is a SDHC card so it should work on the card reader of the W700.

hello there, i have recently upgraded my service to 200mbs with a dual band smart router, modem and router capable of 1000mbs, after upgrade i come to find my wifi card only recieves 2.4ghz channel, its pitiful that my cell phone can get 140mbs on 5ghz and my new laptop can only get 100mbs via ethernet and less than 20mbs wireless, i took it to the local computer store and he did not want to touch the machine because this model is extremely hard to get into and i have read that if it only has One antenna i would have to disassemble the display aswell , so i am basically asking several questions, (1) can i upgrade to a card that is 2 x 2 A/b/g/n/AC 867mbs  like the intel 7260 or 8260 (2) does this machine have the required 2 antennas so i do not have to take apart the display?. i find it ludacris that this machine came out in 2016 and is not capable of reaching passed 100mbs, i would have never purchsed it, i intend to keep upgrading speed as long as my ISP keeps giving me good deals on service, i pay $60 for 200mbs.....card is realtek RTL8723benf Single band 2.4ghz 100mbs......thank you in advance

Answer:wifi card upgrade, cannot reach 200mbs, card is realtek RTL8...

@joseph1979 From what I have found unless you have 2 antenna cables you can not use an AC card. Your manual here. Look at page 2. You could check to see if you do have 2 antenna cables. HP Pavilion 15-au000 Notebook PC series - FRU Remove/Replace Videos Click on Wireless Module. REO

Is there a special way to open the wireless card slot on a Satellite L30 or do i just have to use a USB wireless adapter..... because the slot is there but i cant open it and the USB one is annoying.

thanks for the help....

Answer:Satellite L30 - How to open the Wireless card slot to upgrade the Wlan card

there is no special way. Just 2 screws..
So, if you have a mini-pci wlan card, then you can open the cover, insert it and use it. But be aware from loosen more screws than needed. :)

And if you?re not able to open it, then you will have to use your annoying usb-adapter. ;)

Hi MajorGeeks and thanks for in advance for anyone who can help me.

I've bought myself a new video card yesterday; HIS Radeon X1650 512mb Pro IceQ, AGP. I went ahead to install it, and I get no picture after booting up.

I am receiving a signal to the monitor (I am not getting a "check signal message") but no image comes to the PC. I went to put my old card in which is a Gigabyte 128mb 9600 Pro, and it now suffers the same symptoms!!!

Both cards are receiving power as theirs fans are chugging along.

I had also purchased a 1gig stick of RAM to complement my new video card, so I set my PC up the way it was before the attempted installation of the new card.

Components of PC are:

P4 2.8ghz (D865PERL)
512mb RAM
DVD and Lite-On burner

Your advice is most appreciated - I need my PC for study, eeek!

Answer:New video card installation : BAD : old card doesn't work now

My guess is the ram is not compatable, with old card and old ram, reset cmos, unplug powersupply, remove battery from motherboard and let sit for a few minutes, hold down on-off button for a few seconds. Reinstall battery and see if it will run. Welcome to MajorGeeks. ed

I have a Dell E520, and well, it sucks. But i'm not buying a new computer. So!, I have decided to just upgrade it. I want to het the ASUS Radeon HD 4870, but with that, I also need a new PSU; and on top of all of that, I need a flexible riser card!

So heres the links to the three things I want/need to get.

HD 4870:

Flexible Riser Card:

Now what i'm planning to do is replace my 305Watt Dell PSU with that one, stick the riser card in my PCIe slot, connect the HD 4870 to the riser card, and then ...???...!!!...Win?

Anyone know if this setup should work?

Answer:Will This Video Card / PSU / Riser Card Setup Work?

What would you need the riser card for? I see plenty of space in the case from the looks of it but even if you do use the riser card, the video card may be blocking airflow from and to the CPU. Check the dimensions to be sure IMO.

Otherwise, everything else looks great.

Hi everyone.

I have the Toshiba Upgrade Disc for Windows 7 Home Premium as I am currently running Vista Home Premium 64bit.

I do choose the 64bit upgrade version path with the Toshiba Upgrade Assistant.
However, I get knocked out with the Toshiba Upgrade Assistant dialogue box saying "Your system is not applicable to upgrade. You can refer Windows 7 upgrade information" after it checks out the first 4 criteria as being correct.

Any help would be appreciated.

I did buy my notebook from the USA but live in Australia. However, I was able to order the Windows 7 upgrade disk from Australia when I arranged for my model notebook to be added to the eligible upgrades on the Website.

For general information, I was able to get a hold of a Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit full version disk. From this, I chose Windows 7 Home Premium as the version I purchased.
I used my Product Key from my Windows 7 Home Premium Upgrade Disc and chose the upgrade version.

There were 3 applications from memory which were incompatible with Windows 7 so I uninstalled them and used the Toshiba Windows 7 Driver updates to install what I could. It all works fine and MS update naturally recognises the key as genuine.

However, all this defeats the purpose of why I can't upgrade from the upgrade disc.

Answer:Satellite P305-S8997E: Cannot upgrade to Win7 64bit - error: Your System Is Not Applicable To Upgrade

Did you use the Toshiba preinstalled Vista OS before you used the Win 7 upgrade disk?

How about a clean install? This should be possible as well? the Win 7 Toshiba drivers could be downloaded from the Toshiba US driver page?

I have an Acer Aspire V5-573P-9899. My preinstalled WLAN card just stopped letting me connect to all wifi networks and can be buggy at times. I can only connect to 5Ghz networks and not the 2.4Ghz ones. So I was wondering if it is possible to upgrade my WLAN card. I'm not sure if the card is a half size or full size module but im pretty sure it's half. I was looking at the Intel Network 7260.HMWG.R Heres the link: Can someone tell me if my laptop would be compatible with this? Thanks in advance. I am also running Windows 10 if that's relevant. Answer:Dell XPS Crashes .System repair, system restore ,safe mode don't work

Welcome to Windows Seven Forums.

If you have access to another computer I'd suggest you create a system repaiir disc.

System Repair Disc - Create

It won't re-install Windows, but it will get you into the advanced recovery environment, from where you can run chkdsk.

It does seem highly likely there is a major problem with your hard drive.

I actually had to clean install latest 10 build.....make a new system image (this part im not sure was needed but it didnt see my saved backups from before for some reason.) i have never had to install a new os just to restore a windows system image back up before. (it kept telling me the image was corrupted) but it wasn't lol....Obviously reinstalling win 10 on my ssd fixed something but what it was i have no idea! This pc never crashes.....It crashed in the middle of watching a movie (bsod) and when it rebooted it said no os found.....Maybe a virus got thru Defender? My best guess is my ssd glitched (would be the first time for that)I hope it wasn't an update lol

Answer:Something finally hosed my system - and first time in 10 years a system image didn't work (at first)

Run the SSD tool for your particular brand and see what it is reporting. Maybe it can help point to something simple like a firmware update or failing cells.

Yesterday, I clean-installed Windows 8 Pro x86 on an old Dell Vostro 1400 laptop which had been running Windows 7 Ultimate, and it activated and ran fine, without even a single exclamation point in Device Manager. I applied the update necessary to make the Store offer 8.1 and proceeded to install it as I've done on a couple other machines. After downloading the thing, it errored out with:

Couldn't install Windows 8.1

Contact your PC manufacturer to see if you can upgrade the System BIOS

When I clicked the OK button, it then gave me the informative and grammar-challenged error box:

Something happened and the Windows 8.1 couldn't be installed. Please try again. Error code: 0xc1900104

Try again Cancel

Ever the optimist, I clicked Try again, and of course, it proceeded to download all over again from scratch, only to error out in the same way. I then downloaded all the Windows 8 updates, although just the one had been necessary on my other machines that successfully upgraded to 8.1, and tried again, only to get the same result.

Today, I've discovered the Windows 8.1 Compatibility Assistant, which avoids the lengthy download of the upgrade every time (Microsoft, maybe you should run it implicitly before downloading 3 GB of transient data), and it tells me:

This PC doesn't meet system requirements

Hi, my name is Stormy, I'm new to this forum since I really haven't had any issues in the past.

I am running Vista Home Premium 32bit on my desktop. I restarted it a few days ago to install SP1, it rebooted and started installing 3 updates. Once it reached 100% it kicked into System Repair. After running through it, it restarted and did the same thing. Now 3 days later, it's still in that process where it installs updates, goes to system repair, restarts and starts again.

I tried interrupting it and doing a System Restore, but even at the earliest date on it, it goes right back to that repetitive process. Now I can't get to any of my files or anything else on there. I'm stuck, and I need some help please!

I have run System File Checker (sfc) and it found many files that were corrupt and could not be repaired. My PC appears to be running fine - but I am anal about repairing anything that is wrong on my PC. The only suggestion I've received so far was to perform a Repair Install. That's very risky. Does anyone know of a sure fire way of repairing my corrupt files so that sfc /scannow can run again without a hitch? Thank you..................

Answer:How restore system files when System File Checker won't work

More about System File Checker
Use command prompt to get the log:

findstr /c:"[SR]" %windir%\Logs\CBS\CBS.log >"%userprofile%\Desktop\sfcdetails.txt"

Then follow the corrupted file's path and search for a known good copy of the files (Be careful!)
It is all mentioned the link...
If you are too lazy to read it here:

How to manually replace a corrupted system file with a known good copy of the file
After you determine which system file was corrupted and could not be repaired through the detail information in the Sfcdetails.txt file, find where the corrupted file located, and then manually replace the corrupted file with a known good copy of the file. To do this, follow these steps:

Note You may be able to get a known good copy of the system file from another computer that is running the same version of Windows with your computer. You may perform a System File Checker process on that computer to make sure the system file that you intend to copy is a good copy.
Take administrative ownership of the corrupted system file. To do this, at an elevated command prompt, copy and then paste (or type) the following command, and then press ENTER:
takeown /f Path_And_File_Name
Note The Path_And_File_Name placeholder represents the path and the file name of the corrupted file. For example, type takeown /f C:\windows\system32\jscript.dll.
Grant administrators full access to the corrupted system... Read more

I was having trouble manually updating my av software.(auto update seems to work ok)The update would hang and then I would an error message saying " Error occured while downloading update package; such errors often occur due to system errors." Then it prompted me to reboot and try download again. I did that several times, but with no such luck.I did an up to date av scan and spyware scans from three different engines, but they all came up clear. I contacted my av vendor and they proceeded to instruct me to delete a bunch of cache and temp files, cookies, blah, blah, blah. They also sent me a set of other instructions which included running the built-in system file checker; but when I try to run it, I get an error saying " Cannot find file sfc/scannow, make sure you type it correctly and try again." I also tried several system restore points, of which none will take.(never had an issue with system restore before) My pc seems to be running fine;so far. (knock on wood), but it would definitely be nice to know that I have those tools (system restore, sfc) if I need them in a pinch. I am thoroughly confused here. Any help you could send my way would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance for your time and assistance.

Hello all, I have a lenovo T60 laptop that I am trying to update using think vantage system update.  When I try to upgrade, the program tells me that there are no applicable packages for my system.  I researched the matter and found this as a solution: However, when I run the older version of system update, it wants me to update the program with no options to not update. I then get the same message that there are no applicable packages for my system. Has anyone else run into this problem and found a solution? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Answer:T60 system update does not work, no applicable packages for my system

That solution was for a problem back in may, are you saying it's not been resolved since then?  It sounds like your system is up to date, so there are no updates needed, perhaps you can compare the versions of that are install with what is offered on the website for your installed programs and drivers, and if you can find one that isn't the latest, then that would prove there really is a problem, and it could be submitted to development (again).

Hello Everybody! I'm thinking seriously on upgrading my system because i want games to run better, but system it's not too old, what do you suggest, I have a P4 HT 3.4ghz it's a 478 socket and heard 775 it's better so wish to get Dual core or maybe I should go with AMD but not quite familiar of which ones are the best AMD's right now, maybe I should stay with my MOBO and P4, MOBO is a ASUS P4P800 E Deluxe or should I just upgrade my video card I have an ATI AIW 9600XT people say the AIW are not very good cards for gaming, and I really want to improve gaming performance, the problem is I don't have PCI-Express I have the AGP 8x, I think there are still a few good gaming cards for AGP right? what do you suggest? upgrade my video card only or MOBO and Processor also, I would keep everything else, memory, hard drives and PSU will work, suggestions are welcome, I definitely don't have a big budget but better buy something is worth it, for video card i guess something around $200 if i had to buy new MOBO and Processor I'll have to wait a couple of weeks but i really want to boost the quality of my games, so better wait and get somereally good, right now I can't max out the settings of some games and I have some frame skipping and lagging and want to get rid of that, thank you!!!!

Answer:PC upgrade or Video Card upgrade??

Your cpu is fine, a p4 3.4ghz is good enough for today's games but can you tell us what games you're trying to play?
For a quick upgrade that'll last you ok for a while and give you much better playablity in today's games, I'd just go for a graphics card upgrade, but, if you want the system to last you a while and you can wait a bit then I'd suggest waiting a few months. If you want a future proof games machine (meaning you'll get a year or two of gaming out of it) intel are bringing out a new series of processors, and the next generation of graphics cards are just around the corner too, directx10 cards.
If you're only a casual gamer you could still save some money if you wait, but then again the technology moves so fast you might as well get something that'll be considered decent for a while. I'm actually leaning towards you just getting a new agp graphics card, maybe like thisradeon x850pro. That'd make games look a lot prettier.

Edit: Hang on, forgot all the important stuff  Can you tell us your full system specs, e.g. how much RAM, your mobo, your psu wattage etc.?

To set this up, here is a little background:

I had planned on upgrading my home system in about 6 mos. to 1 year. At that time I would have enough to buy buy the HQ video editing system that I really want. Unfortunately, I have been forced to renew early so I am trying to find a compromise that is both inexpensive but will meet some of my basic needs.

The computer will be used primarily by kids/family for downloading, web-surfing and some light MS-office type applications. This system also serves as my TV when I am using the exercise equipment that is also stuffed into the office. Primarily for that reason, but also to save on buying a new video card, I will be installing my ATI AIW 9600XT card on the new system.

The final thing that I really want it to do is some light-duty video editing. Although many find it hard to believe, I actually get a pretty good quality edited home video using Pinnacle Studio 9.0 (I know that Premiere, etc. is great but that is the future for me). I do this once a year, distilling about 20 hours of raw home video footage into about an hour of video set to music. Although quite an intensive task, it occurs just once/year so it is not the MAJOR use for this computer (and up to now I have been doing it on my dell X300 -- Pentium M 1.2 with 640 ram and 40gb HD!).

One thing I'm really not into is gaming of any sort, so it will not be used in that capacity.

So, for $600 Canadian (note that systems are slightly more expensive up... Read more
