WLAN working fine - now not working :(

Question: WLAN working fine - now not working :(

I've recently got a d-ling wireless adsl router which I set up last week and has been working like a dream for about 3 days, yesterday the wireless connection dropped and I get "wireless connection unavailavble" with the link light on my PCMCIA card flashing.

Then intermittently I get "One or more wireless networks is available - click here for list of available networks"

When I click I get a window that shows my wirless connection sometimes but not others but it still doesnt connect.

Also my card utility will not start and I get an error message saying "no wireless adapter found" I've rebooted about 300 times and also unistalled and reinstalled the utility and hardware. It took me about 3 weeks and 3 different sets of hardware to get this network running so obviously I'm totally peed off that its not working now. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!

Preferred Solution: WLAN working fine - now not working :(

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: WLAN working fine - now not working :(

Try altering the router wireless connection channel it could be interference thats causing the problem.
If you go right up to the router do you get a good connection if so try altering the ariels or moving the router?

I installed my wireless router/modem with no problems and am currently sharing an internet connection between two laptops in my house. I also want to share files between these two computers, but i am not shure as to how to do it. I looked at tutorials on the net but they don't really give step by step info. The main question would actually be: If my computers share internet from the same wireless router/modem unit, are they arleady connected to a wireless network i can also use to share files? or i have to build up a separate network (different from the one that my router makes for sharing internet)?
help would be appreciated!
thanx in advance,

My Dell inspiron 3542 laptop speakers are not working, but 3.5 mm jack is working fine.
Please help me out.

Answer:My Dell inspiron 3542 laptop speakers are not working, but 3.5 mm jack is working fine.

Hello. The problem could be either in the hardware or the software, so you need to test each. Perform the tests below -- it doesn't matter which one you do first.

To test the speakers, perform the Quick Audio Check in the ePSA test. If the speakers fail the test then they have failed or become disconnected. (Click the link for instructions on how to run the test.)

To test the software, switch between the Realtek audio driver and the Windows native driver. [This test assumes that your laptop has the Realtek audio driver. If you get to step 2 and do not see "Realtek High Definition Audio" then go to the Dell support page for your model and download the Realtek driver that Dell provides for the version of Windows that the laptop is running.]
1. Open the Device Manager (find it in the Control Panel, or type devmgmt.msc into the search box).2. Expand the "Sound, video & game controllers" and right click on "Realtek High Definition Audio".3. Select to "Update Driver Software".4. Click on "Browse my computer for driver software".5. Click "Let me pick from a list of drivers on my computer".6. Put a check in the box "Show compatible hardware" if not already checked.7. In the list of devices, click "High Definition Audio" (the native driver).8. Click "Next".9. On the Update Driver Warning box, click "Yes" (install the driver). 10. Restart the laptop if prompted. If not prompted,... Read more

im running an 8 month old toshiba with vista and realtek audio with updated drivers. surround sound speakers bought in iraq were used on audio output for about a week... then the speakers started acting funny, like with one speaker and one headphone working when headphones were plugged in. then the internal speakers squealed loudly whenever the computer was powered. had to take the speakers out just to get them to stop, and now audio output does not work at all. computer tests both devices as working properly, and drivers are updated.

Hello,

I've got a Dell laptop here that isn't functioning properly. I can't get this to work for the life of me! I am currently using this laptop with a different hard drive, it's the install on the SSD that doesn't work. I know that the quick fix would be to simply reload windows, but I don't want the quick fix.

Basically, laptop works with Windows 7 install on a hard drive, no issues. On the SSD, where the ONLY applications loaded are Office 2013 and Firefox (and all the latest updates), the internet does not work (I can ping yahoo.com and get a response, so DNS is fine). The problem persists on IE and Firefox. I have no AV software other than MSE, and the problem persists in Safe Mode w/ networking. The hosts file is clean. The internet worked on the computer just fine when I loaded it, I hadn't used the SSD in a while and when I popped it in, the internet wasn't working. I believe something is getting in the way of port 80, but I can't figure out what. I have disabled all startup applications and all nonwindows services. The computer does not have bonjour. I have cleared history/cookies to no avail. I can't find anything suspicious in the running processes. I can't seem to turn off the windows antimalware process to test that, though.

Any ideas?

Answer:Internet not working, windows update, ping, DNS, etc. working fine

I decided to run hijack this and found two BHO's. It's funny that on my new install that I used a handful of times, I have adware, but on this install that's been going for years, I have nothing. Oh well. So I had "Crossrider" and "Coupon Companion". I removed all traces of both, yet still no go. It looks like this managed to install itself on 12/2... which had to be damn close to the date that I bought the SSD, however, I had internet activity as recent as 12/26. Here's the log of what Coupon Companion did:

I am not sure exactly at what point it happened but I recently found that the touch screen on my Elite X2 1011 was not working. The pen still functions normally. When checking the pen and touch settings I can only configure the pen settings and only "Pen support" is listed in view pen and touch settings. The touch screen used to work in both the original Windows 8.1 and then also after upgrading to Windows 10. There have been no error messages and the event logs do not seem to indicate any problems; it is as though the machine has just forgotten it is a touch screen. I have tried reinstalling drivers, reinstalling both Windows 10, and going back to Windows 8.1 to no avail. I really loved this little device but ease of use is cut rather drastically without the touch functionality. Has anyone else had a problem like this and have a solution? Any help at all is greatly appreciated.

No issue in firefox browser though. Please help

Check the installed extensions in Chrome's settings and remove any you find.  If you still cannot go online, check the firewall.

i'm in setup....don't know what to look at
Operating system not found was original statement
turned off for a few min...then on.....
the error was ctrl alt delete....did that and now in F2
under main.....it says bios revision was 10/14...which is when i suspect it went goofy. someone was trying to use it ...didn't know how and was pressing lots of keys....then black.
can you walk me thru this to see if i can restore

Answer:hp pavilion 1503 stopped working...and was working fine

Its either failed to find your hard drive or failed to find the boot files on the drive.
Asuume this is a laptop?
What operating system are you using XP Vista or W7?
While in the BIOS (setup) has the machine found and recognised the hard drive?
Is the boot order set as CD rom first and HDD second?
Can you remove and refit the drive to remake the connections as that may well solve a missing drive problem?

ASUS Notebook G60Vx Series

Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit

Intel(R) WiFi Link 5100 AGN
A few days ago my internet suddenly stopped working. I plugged in the ethernet cord and everything worked fine. Checking the properties in the device manager showed the device was working properly, I also tried resetting it to make sure it was enabled but it did not work.

Upon troubleshooting, the "Windows Network Diagnostic" said the problems was that the Wireless adapter was not turned on. Using the switch on the front of the laptop as well as the function keys does nothing. Usually a graphic pops up showing if the WiFi is on or off, changinging transparent to show the WiFi is disabled. Now when I turn the switch on it always appears transparent, effectively going from off to off

So I know the computer reads both the function keys and the switch on the front but both methods never actually turns the adapter on. I just finished a system restore and nothing has changed

Any help would be greatly appreciated thanks.

Answer:Wifi not working on ASUS laptop, LAN working fine

Maybe the switch or adapter is defective. Some other ideas ...

Do you have an ASUS utility to also turn the wireless on/off? (I have an HP utility on one of my laptops that will individually control the Wi-Fi and Bluetooth if the physical switch is on.)

In Device Manager right click on the adapter - Properties - Advanced tab. Sometimes there is a Property in there that allows turning the adapter on/off.

If the card is easily accessible through a cover on the laptop's bottom remove and carefully and firmly replace the card several times to fix any potential looseness or corrosion problems.

I have sort of an odd problem. I have a desktop computer that is connect to the internet wirelessly. Everything works fine there. I also have an xbox360 connected to the desktop via an Ethernet cable. I use this connection primarily to stream movies from my computer to the xbox. Today in the middle of a movie the movie stopped playing and gave me an error saying xbox isn't connected to the computer any more.
I checked the physical connection and everything was fine. I looked at my desktop (running windows xp) and noticed my LAN connection wasn't properly running. It said I have limited or no connectivity. So I tried repairing it, renewing it, disabling and re-enabling it. Nothing worked. In fact I get this error: "An error occurred while renewing interface Local Area Connection : unable to contact your DHCP server. Request has timed out."

I also noticed I have a 169.254.xxx.xxx IP address, if that helps at all:
EDIT: Forgot to mention I also reinstalled the driver for the LAN card.

Hey,

I've been doing some online gaming (world of warcraft), and I kept getting these Error#131 issues. This would cause the game files to become corrupted and then I would have to repair, or reinstall. The WoW tech site says that chronic error #131 messages are either a Hard drive, Ram, or Motherboard issue.

Running the Windows Vista memory diagnostic tool has turned up some odd results, the initial test with a 1gb stick in slot #1 and a 1gb stick in slot #2 came back with errors. I then removed the ram from slot 2 and ran the test on slot 1 with 1 stick of ram.... no errors. I did the same with the other stick in slot 1.....no errors. this lead me to believe that it was slot#2 giving me the issue so I moved the ram from slot 2 to slot 3, thus having 1gb of ram in slot 1 and 1gb of ram in slot 3. After a little while......error#131 appeared.

So I then tested both sticks in slots 1 and 3 together and came back with ram errors, I then tested both sticks in slot #1, and then again in slot #2 and both tests came back fine. Any ideas on what this issue could be? I know both sticks are the same brand, speed, totally identical.

Answer:Ram Works fine in single sticks, not working fine together :P

So, my problem recently is quite strange. My wall charger stopped working all together. It first started as an intermittent issue wherein the wall charger would sometimes not light up when connected to the Surface. After fiddling with it for a bit or changing the position the light would come back on. Eventually, it would not come on at all. I checked to make sure that the connections were clean and free of debris (which they were).
I thought is might be the charger itself had gone bad. So, I switched to my other wall charger - same problem. Defiantly, I decided to switch to my car charger, which worked like a charm. This led me to believe that both of wall chargers must've gone bad - right?
So, I bought a new wall charger and the exact same problem occurs. And, during this whole time the car charger works fine.
So far, I have tried:
1) Trying to change the order in which I plug in the charger (first plug in the surface side, then the wall side and vice versa)
2) Updating to the new Windows 10 Creators Update (during this update I did a completely clean install and wiped everything just to be sure)
3) Uninstalling battery in device manager and restarting
4) Installing updated drivers for SP3
5) Trying multiple places to plug in the wall charger (just to make sure it is not an electrical issue)
6) Using 3 different SP3 charging cables
7) Cleaning the pins on the connector and SP3
8) Changing the power orientation (charging cable facing both up and down)
Keep in mind that the... Read more

Then first check if its a Microsoft update that is causing the problem;Try a system restore first and reboot the computer,if this proves successful-check your MS update history to see if this coincides with your problems.

Pretty fuzzy picture, but I think that Network Adapters was not expanded, and you still have at least 3 or 4 missing drivers. If HP has the needed XP drivers download and install them.

Does the wireless adapter show under Network Adapters?

Hi everyone,  Just ordered a T400, model 7417-CTO.I wiped out the preloaded Vista, loaded XP SP3 myself, then downloaded & installed all drivers for XP. Everything is fine except the Network Controller for the wireless! :-(The wireless adapter is "44C8733   SBB THINKPAD B/G/N", or "11b/g/n Wireless LAN Mini-PCI Express Adapter II". The driver dir for Vista is "WLANRLTK", which I assume means Realtek is the manufacturer. But looking at netathw.inf under the XP driver dir "WLLANATH", the manufacturer is Atheros. Is this the reason why XP driver is not working? Or other reason? Please help! Deeply appreciate it!! -mpc8240

I bought a laptop while in the united states but now im back in england and had time to get it set up I've run into some problems.

all the drivers pretty much work but the wireless one. I am not entirely sure how the wireless turns on, I thought it was the button next to power one but that blue tooth.

I downloaded drivers from MSI and 1 time they did work but then when i went to connect to my router, everything went downfall, wireless option kept saying no hardware found, but in my device manager it did say "Mini Wireless Adapter 802.11g" so it was there.

I tried tons of drivers but still no luck, and now suddenly its totally forgot the devices name and it's called "USB Device" and UNKNOWN in device manager.

Running XP. Any help be hugely appeciated, having to connect wired at the moment.

i'm using a D-Link dsl-g604t router with 1 pc hardwired to the router and another on the wlan. The hardwired pc works fine for the internet, i can look up pages on firefox and ie, download stuff, update etc. But on the wlan pc i can't look at any pages, i'm connected to the network. Excellent signal strength, can download stuff, play css online, but can't browse the internet on ie/firefox. The page just has the 'looking up .......' bit in the bottom left and then just comes up with 'this page cannot be found'

I've tried power cycling the router many times, re-entering connection details, but to no avail.
Seeing as the hardwired pc works fine, i think it could maybe be a problem with the reciever on the other pc but i'm not sure.

any ideas as to what it could be?
thanks

Answer:Solved: wlan pc not working in ie

sounds like something blocking browsing programs, but other programs ok, what kind of firewall do you have? Have you tried shutting it down to see if it changes anything?

did you set a proxy by accident? check tools, internet options, connections tab, lan settings button, is use a proxy checked?

I got infected with SpySheriff and about 200 spyware/adware and 5-10 trojans, all by runnig a single file. Since Norton Antivirus 2006 and Spybot failed to protect me (working together), I decided to switch to Panda Platinum Internet Security. After Panda cleaned my system, I only needed to remove a couple of entries with HijackThis to completely clean my computer, but there is one problem still. Some of the malware messed with my registry entries, disabling Windows Firewall/Internet Connection Sharing service. I don't use Windows Firewall, but I need ICS. My computer has a cable modem connection which I share with my Wireless LAN which connects my computer and the other computer. My computer runs on Windows XP SP2, and the other computer is on Windows 98 SE. The local network and connection sharing worked fine before, even when I had Linux installed on the other computer. After a lot of googling, I managed to find a .reg file which reenabled my Windows Firewall/Internet Connection Sharing, but my network still doesn't work. I set up the local network and share the cable connection as before, but it doesn't work. I can ping the Win98 machine from my computer without problems, but the Win98 machine can't ping my computer. When I try "ping google.com", it doesn't even try to ping (probably doesn't even have access to DNS). I have no idea what to try next. I've even tried some low-level program called "smitRem" that needs to... Read more

Hi,

ok just to start, im a beginner so bear with me.

i have a speedtouch 585v6 wireless router on AOL in england and i have been using my DELL Inspiron 1525 laptop (vista home premium) with their built in wireless card just fine for about 2 months. But recently I have not been able to connect to the router. my laptop says it has a low wireless signal and the router is not responding even though im sitting next to it!!! arghh!!!

i hope anybody can help me, if not its alright.

many thanks

EDIT: message to TERRYNET: how do i reset my router to its default factory settings?

I have an xbox 360 connected via an ethernet cable and an OLD (and i mean old, 1998) Toshiba laptop using the same ethernet as the xbox 360 (so only one can connect at a single time) sometimes a psp and my laptop connected to the router.

I havnt used the laptop with any other network. I saw another thread with the same sort of propblem cos i put my laptop in sleep and/or hibernate a lot so tht mite be the problem but im not so sure.

many thanks... again

Answer:WLAN on router not working, please help me!!!

Are you sure whether this is a router or an adapter problem? Is there another computer connecting to your network, or have you tried your laptop on another wireless network?

If it's the router it may be failing. Reset it to factory default settings and reconfigure it. Sometimes this brings them back to life, at least for a while.

I have a laptop HP Pavilion DV 6000 CTO Notebook PC. It comes with Windows Vista. I recently formatted the HD in order to install Windows XP SP2. I was successful in installing windows XP and also downloaded and installed drivers from this website (http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/s...842155&lang=en)

The problem I faced was that installation of drivers was very cumbersome and in the process I made a couple of mistakes but eventually nearly everything has been installed but a couple of things are not working e.g. WLAN isnt working. You guys can see in the attached pic a view of device manager and 'Wireless Assistant' which shows that WLAN is disabled.

In the built-in help it said that I should go to BIOS and enable WLAN from there but I couldnt find any such option there.

Please help me. Its very urgent!!

Answer:WLAN not working in winXP

You need to load the drivers for your wirless network adaptor . .as well as your wired adaptor . . but first, load the Chipset drivers ( that is the SM Bus controller error)

You should be able to find the drivers here

The one listed as unknown is probably the modem . . you will find that driver on the same page

It is amazing that IE even starts (wait, it doesn't).

Please download Ad-aware SE and install it if you don't have it already. Make sure it's the newest version and check for any updates before running it. Go to this site to get the plug-in for fixing VX2 variants. Also make sure to customize the settings in Adaware for better scan results. Run the scan and fix everything that it finds.

Reboot.

Run an online virus scan at TrendMicro or RAV Antivirus. Select the Autoclean option if you use TrendMicro.

Reboot and post a new HJT log.

I know I posted some what of a rant on how different windows programs are a joke and I felt that MCE was one of them, but I have to now retract that statement as MCE in win 7 seems to work well for my ADS tuner, the only problem I am having with it now is everytime I select a show it records them by default. when I hit stop it takes me back out to the guide.

Is the recording just a temp file and just deletes its self when I hit stop? or is there a section of my drive that has all the files just taking up space?

Okay, so i bought a new pre built machine very recently. ANd I have had it set up for about a week now
Specs
Asus P5KC motherboard
Intel Core 2 Quad Q660 2.4GHZ
2GB Ram Ballistix
1GB Ram HP
Gigabyte 9600 GT 512mb PCI GRphics card
111GB MAXTOR HDD

It came with two hard drives installed, but i took on of them out, to leave me with just one (simpler IMO)!

Anyway, I installed windows XP SP2 with no problems, and since i've had it i've been installing programs, and steam.
I've downloaded a few games with steam, and have been playing through HL2 and more recently Team Fortress 2.

Anyway today, I was chatting with my friend on Windows Live, and then i closed that, and started up Team Fortress 2. However when the program started I could hear all the music that you hear at the menu, but the screen was black!!!

I waited and waited, but nothing happened, so the only thing i could do was reboot. SO i reboot, and the BIOS splash loads up, and then the windows xp boot screen, and then when it should show log in screen, the screen flickers and goes black. And thats it, the hard drive whirrs for a bit, but Theres nothing i can do from there. BLACK SCREEN

I can boot safe mode with and without networking, and I even did a system restore from safe mode, but that didnt work.

I assume it is a video card problem, as it is a game that seems to have caused this problem.

Sorry to burden you with such a long winded story, but I;ve been scouring then internet for days now, and c... Read more

hi guys,

my OWA has been working fine with this url:
https://mail10.company.ie/exchange

now i always had to add an exception when connecting...but it worked
now on friday i get a server not found page.

but when i type https://ipaddress/exchange the certificate screen comes up once but when i say ok it redirects me to an open dns search with the ipaddress in the search field, then if i try again it just takes me to an open dns search.

This is happening inside my lan as well as outside. i can ping the external address so there isnt a connection issue. I feel this is some sort of DNS issue. i have been reading on OWA problems...but its very broad and i feel i am chasing my tail. or looking in the wrong direction. All services are running and i have followed directions to reseting the iis virtual volume etc...

any help muchly appreciated.

Are you using a static IP? If not, try using one, if if you are using DHCP, then try using a Static IP.

Also, make sure Wireless Zero Configuration in services (services.msc from start->run) is set to automatic.

Hi, first of all thanks for taking an interest, it's been a difficult few days for me, trying to understand what's going on with my laptop's WLAN card.

My Laptop is an ACER ASPIRE 5520 running Vista Home Premium SP1.

The WLAN Card is the Atheros 5007x, one I've heard has had many problems.

Ok, so here's what had happened.

I reformatted my PC and everything was brilliant, Updated everything, WLAN card was working, GPU drivers installed etc, nothing was going wrong.

I decided to dual-boot my vista laptop with Ubuntu 8.10, something which I had done before.

I did it successfully, keeping the wubi.exe installation file to be able to uninstall Ubuntu 8.10 whenever i saw fit.

I managed to get my Atheros 5007x WLAN card to work in Ubuntu 8.10, a rare-feat. with the card I have currently, as some of you Linux users will know.

I shutdown my Laptop that evening, feeling quite happy with myself, that I'd done it successfully, when others have such difficulty with the Atheros cards, even if you type in google Atheros WLAN card problem, it'll be linux forums which will flood the page.

Anyway, I turned on my laptop in the morning and i booted Ubuntu. Now with ubuntu the WLAN Card didn't needed to be switched on or off with my WLAN button I have on my ACER ASPIRE 5520, it would stay on until the laptop was shut down. The strange thing is that it wasn't picking anything up, and to me, it seemed on, as the LED light doesn't turn on, I... Read more

I have a EI Systems laptop, with 256MB Ram, 40GB Hard drive. It runs on Windows XP SP2 and was recently running slower than usual. So after a number of tries to return it to its original speed, i gave up and decided i would re-format it.

The only problem was that when i got the laptop, it never came with a disc to do such a thing. So i found the SP3 XP disc that was hidden away somewhere, which came with my PC. So i just assumed that would work.

I overwrote my original partition, as i have done on my PC before. After a couple of hours, the installation finished and everything had worked. Well, i say everything... my WLAN switch on the laptop refused to turn on. It didn't light up, flash, nothing. The internet didnt work, and still isnt.

I think it might be a driver error, but i dont have a clue how to resolve this. Any help will be greatly appreciated.By the way, the switch is not turned on Via Fn + F# like some laptops. Its a built in switch. Which now doesn't turn on.

Hi, i have a T420s 4174 P4G with a Intel Ultimate 6300 n wlan adapter. First i just had a problem with my wireless connection. But suddenly I got a BSOD and after the reboot the adapter was deactivated and activating it caused another BSOD. So i tried to install new drivers and afterwards I uninstalled all and reinstalled them. After a reboot the adapter wasnt recognized by the system anymore and sometimes while booting a message is displayed that the installed PCI minicard wouldn't be authorized. Then I just reboot and it works without recognizing the wlan adapter. So I tried to solve the problem by reinstalling Windows but it didn't change anything. Is there any hint how to make my system recognize its wlan adapter? Thanks in advice! P.S: Cold boot as described in knowledgebase didn't solve the problem.

Answer:T420s - Wlan not working - adapter not being seen

Check in the BIOS for WLAN related settings and make sure they're turned on.Also try running an Ubuntu boot disc to rule out Windows/driver issues. It's possible that the adapter is defective.

I have a Medion MAM2100 laptop, i dont know much about it because it was given to me. I recently did a complete reformat (deleting partition and creating a new one) and since then I ahvent been able to pick up my wireless network (unsecured), prior to reformatting the laptop would detect the network and connect to it automatically. The OS is Vista Home Premium 32bit. I believe it may just be a driver that needs to be installed, but i have googled the laptop and not found anything useful (it must be discontinued) so i do not know what kind of WLAN card it uses. I would rather resolve this issue without taking it down the road to Nexus and paying Ģ35 plus VAT. Laptops are not my speciality and to b honest i dont like them but ive been given one that i could make use of so id like it to work properly. Most of my knowledge lies with PCs.

Right click my computer > properties > hardware tab, then device manager. See if there are any devices with a yellow asterisks next to them. Medion are a particularly bad manufacture to try and find drivers for. You could try here but its in german!

Looking for quick answers as the person would like there laptop back ASAP, Thanks! I am working on an Aspire S3-391-6428. The WLAN is not picking up a connection. I have tried installing the drivers again from acers website. I have reverted to a restore point. I restored to factory settings still nothing. so I belive that The WLAN card is bad.also at all of the stages I have checked that the WLAN service is running and tried installing the network drivers from acers site. Questions! Does anyone know if there are diagnostic tools acer has to test the hardware? Is there a way to test for sure if it is the WLAN card, and not the socket to connect it to the motherboard? If I was to take a random wireless card from another laptop would it work? ( I have tried this and got the same resault as I have been getting, still cant confirm if it is the socket or the card) any other options to try would help as well thanks Thanks you for your help WAX

Answer:Aspire S3-391-6428 WLAN not working

Does the computer ever see any wireless networks? If not, that may be a sign that the card is bad. Make sure the wireless card is enabled. You can usually do this by pressing the Fn key and the F3 key simultaneously. Also, try the steps located on http://acer.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/32747, to see if they help resolve the issue.

I have several units of TP-Link WN321G USB Wireless devices and they all have the same problem on a variety of computers, laptops and desktops. The connection is never good and sometimes it is so bad it is useless. Looking at the statistics on the device program I can see the sending rate and error rate are good but the receiving error rate is very bad and sometimes almost all frames are received with CRC error. This is probably the cause of the problem. As I say, it happens with multiple devices and on different computers.

Anything I can do to correct this?

I am thinking there might be some setting like MTU which might affect this.

I just bought a Tecra M1, 2nd Hand. Great! There is XP installed but no Toshiba tools. I can't manage to get access to my WLAN router. Seems as if the WLAN connection isn't installed yet. As I know from my Satellite Pro M30, there are Toshiba tools for that, they work smart.

Maybe I would need the drivers - WXP finds unknown hardware during start up - could be the WLAN device - who knows.
When I check the network connections, I find 1934 and LAN adapter, but no WLAN device. I already ran the XP assistant for WLAN connections, entered SSID and hex Key; but no WLAN device shows up.

So, has anybody an idea how to get the WLAN working?
Is there a possibility to get the M1 Toshiba Software or can I use my SatPro Software?

Thanks so far Jan

Answer:How to get WLAN card working on Tecra M1?

My question seems to be difficult... No reply at all

But keeping on searching I found some links to other Toshiba sites
There I found the required drivers for the WLAN
Once the driver is installed, the WLAN device was proper configurable.
The second hardware device that was found and specified as unknown, was the IR Device. I took a driver from my SatPro CD. All fine so far.
By that way: I couldn?t find the utilities for download, but I tries to uses the SatPro CD - that works
Hoping that my experiences will help somebody else I mark my question as being answered.

Hi,

I have an HP laptop with Windows 7 operating system. I have a TP-Link router which is connected to the internet. I have previously been able to connect to this router very easily. My computer has just stopped seeing it. My phone, my partners phone & tablet can all still see the router. If I plug into the router using an ethernet cable it works. I have had a look through device manager and my driver is a: Marvell Yukon 88e8072 PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet Controller. I have had a look and installed the latest driver - although I don't seem to be able to get the driver to recognise the new file and update itself.

I have turned the switch off and on at the front of the computer and it tells me that bluetooth is on and working. I have also tried turning the computer off and on which sometimes works but most of the time it doesn't work.

Please help I really don't want to have to continue to use the ethernet cable.

Oh also I am pretty sure it is my computer as I tried to connect to the wireless at my parents house and it wouldn't see it there either.

As far as I know I haven't made any changes to my computer.

Thanks in advance
Carina

I have a Dell Lattitude CPx J650GT laptop & am using a D-Link Air DWL-610 Wireless Cardbus Adapter. Last night the adaptor was working fine, but this morning when I switched on the computer it said it found a new device, which was actually the WLAN adapter & installed it. Then I found that the WLAN didn't work. I proceeded to check the Device Manager & found a yellow exclamation mark next to the entry D-Link Air DWL-610 Wireless Cardbus Adapter #3. The strange thing was, I know that when it was working it used to be Adapter #2. I tried uninstalling it but it was reinstalled itself as Adapter #3 again. This I couldn't figure out so I decided to disable it. What happened next was that when I tried to use the card, the computer reinstalled the card as Adapter #4! Now, for both #3 & #4, the comment for the exclamation was that it couldn't find enough resources for it to work & had 'code 12' in brackets. Is there any way I can get it back to working on Adapter #2?Another thing. When I clicked on Device Manager to shown hidden devices, it showed me 'D-Link Air DWL-610 Wireless Cardbus Adapter - Packet Scheduler Miniport' four times. One for each adapter. I tried uninstalling these Miniports, but the system wouldn't let me.How can I get my WLAN card to work again? Thanks for any help in advance.

Answer:WLAN not working on Latitude D630

You might get a simple book or magazine on Wireless... or read a lot of stuff about it on the internet... There are a few simple, but important things you are missing... particularly about networking.
You might want to download the free version of Network Magic, then spend some significant time reading how things work.
The D630 is a decent unit that should give a lot of service. Just avoid passwording it.
I suspect your problem is simple security settings that are detected but not explained by your system.

Now type this: set autoconfig enabled=yes interface="Wireless Network Adapter" and press enter.By default, Vista enables the WLAN AutoConfig, so that your computer's wireless network adapter will automatically recognise and offer any wireless network within range. For some reason your Vista installation is telling you that it has disabled the facility.

Hi, I'm running Windows Vista and recently I've been having some problems. Earlier today I recieved an error message numerous times that said "The driver detected a controller error on \Device\Ide\IdePort2".

So I ran a disk check but after it completed and restarted, the internet wouldn't work, and no networks could be found. Also, I noticed that my computer has been running kind of slow, and Windows Explorer sometimes freezes, so I have no idea what the deal is.

Now, I keep getting the message "WLAN AutoConfig has stopped working" and everytime I try to get it to run again, that same message pops up for some reason. The slow computer/freezing exactly coincides with this problem too. I have no idea if the controller error and the WLAN error have anything to do with each other, but they have both only recently started happening.

In Event Manager, the last thing I could find that happened before the WLAN error was this message:

Hello: I rand the Lenovo Update program on 9/19/10.  After doing so, I initially could not use my WLAN capability at all- so, I updated the Driver for WLAN.  Now, while the system can find the SSID, it won't connect. In addition, with this most recent update of the Lenovo software, boot up takes FOREVER- like 7 minutes- while it says it is "Accessing Connections" or something like that.  Then, when it does finally boot up, and one presses the Blue Button to get to the Productivity Center- then presses - Wireless- Select Location Profiles- the Hourglass comes up for 5 seconds, vanishes- THEN- about 5 minutes later, the wireless option appears. I also tried to update the BIOS independently, but nothing much seems to change. Right now, I am on the hard wire connection, so it will work temporarily.  One last clue: The task avgcsrvx.exe is sucking up a lot of my CPU- and I don't know why.   Its also running multiple times, and I have never seen it before.  Also, task avgchsvx.exe is running, but not sucking up anywhere near the amount of CPU as the oter one. Obviously, I have screwed something up in the Lenovo Update process, but wondered if anyone could help me out with any ideas. Help! Thanks! Phil Bush

Someone else's network keeps popping up in my list of networks in the Windows 10 Action Center. I've used a cmd prompt and followed all instructions for using "netsh wlan" commands to deny all (and then allow my own network to show, but the network I blocked still keeps popping up in my Action Center then quickly disappearing again. I know I used the proper "netsh" commands, because the command prompt said the network was successfully blocked. I don't understand why it keeps popping up in the list of networks in my Action Center. My own private network should be the only one I see there. Can you help?

Answer:Using netsh wlan commands not working

It comes up in the list of available Wifi networks, or it comes up as a network you are currently connected with?

I'm pretty much a novist on the computer. I use it basicaly for e mail, mySpace and I also put my orders in for my in home business thats just about it. My problem if that everything is working fine except for my business page. its www.lorigallegos.pureromance.com and it works for putting in the orders sometime but most of the time I get INTERNET EXPLORER CANNOT DISPLAY WEB PAGE
This also happens almost all the time when I try to input a Credit Card. Now I called up Pure Romance and some other gals that sell the stuff, they say the page is fine and when I use my friends computer it works fine also. I cant figure out what is wrong, it used to work just fine. The only changes in my entire system has been that I stoped using my cell phone as a modum and got one of those broad band or DSL boxes (not sure which on it is) And it kinda started around the same time but not exactly, and when I hook my cell phone back up as the modem it still doesnt work. If anyone has any ideas or knows where I can go to on line to get a IE chat help or something along that lines let me please know.

Thanks Alot!

I started my computer a while ago. I use Windows XP SP2. I had no problems last night. Whenever I load my account, the music that plays is slow and sounds corrupted. Once my desktop was loaded, I was looking through some CDs. Five minutes later, my monitor went black. Then it showed the blue screen of death. It said 'a problem has been detected with your computer'. A few seconds later, it automatically rebooted. When it got to the blank screen before the Windows loading bar, it wouldn't load. My computer was beeping and I pressed the off button. It turned off immediately. Next, I started it, but it got stuck on one of those black screens with text. I restarted it. This time, after waiting ten minutes on the blank screen before the loading bar, I saw a white bar at the bottom of the screen. Once it filled up, I saw the real loading bar. And I got to the Welcome screen. I was so relived. Then I typed in my password, and hit Enter. It said my profile was corrupted. I hit Okay. It said it would give me a temporary profile, which is what I'm using now. What can I do to fix my computer? I've been using it for six years (although I had to reformat two years ago when Windows Style glitched). :/

I have 2 issues. I had my router system set up and everything worked fine. My modem and router was set up on my pc which runs windows xp sp3. I had my laptop connected to it from another room and I have windows xp sp3 on that as well. Everything worked fine. My modem broke and I had to get a new one from DishNetwork. I re-installed everything and the internet and router are working fine on the pc but it will not connect on my laptop. It shows the router and I select to connect but then it says that no connection is found or I will get a low or no connectivity. That is issue one.
Issue two: I am trying to connect my grandmother to my router next door and she has vista. I can see the router and it shows that I have 5 bars of service and they are green but when you open the internet it doesnt connect.
Can anyone help me?

So I installed a new motherboard and CPU, and from what I heard you had to re-install windows. However, windows XP worked fine. I installed the drivers from the motherboard's CD.

Should I have done different?

I have right now:
Intel core 2 duo 3.0GHz
GIGABYTE GA-P35-DS3L
4 gigs of corsair ddr2 800 ram

what I had before:
AMD X2 4400
Asus A8N-SLI motherboard
2 gigs of DDR PC3200 ram from adata

Answer:XP is working fine w/ new mobo and cpu??

Might have worked if you never installed the drivers for the old motherboard. Otherwise, doubt it.

I just recently reinstalled windows xp and now my IE isn't working. It says the web page you requested is not available offline. It also asks Connect or stay offline. Connect brings up to this dial-up thing, but i have high speed. Firefox works fine and everything else works good. Everything except Microsoft Related software that requies internet, such as MSN messanger setup.exe that requires downloads and installing Windows Media player. I tried reinstalled IE, but that also gives me an error message, it says Setup was unable to download information about available installation sites, Setup may have been unable to migrate your current proxy settings. Click Advanced if you know your proxy settings. I ran IEfix, deleted temportary files and cookies, reset IE settings to default. I have this CD that came from my ISP that includes IE 6 and i tried to install it, but all these error messages came up saying i dunt have those files. Oh and im installing version 6 because 7 requires SP2, but it doesn't work for me.

OK so here's the down-low i have a certified data headset and mic it was working really well one day me and my friend were talking in skype no problems but the very next day we try and talk to each other my mic was giving off no sound and he couldn't hear me i have gone it to advanced properties and everything it might be because of my IDT audio 1 but it hadn't given me problems before is there something i might have missed or done?

Answer:My mic was working fine then stopped the next day

The quickest test for this is to first try another mic. If you are quite certain that no settings have been changed then your mic has probably developed a fault.

please help
all these programs were working perfectly for about two weeks untill yesterday and I have done nothing to change any thing when I turned it off everything was working fine when I turned it back on the next morning different story.

Presumably you didn't make a full backup image of the computer when everything was freshly installed and fully working?

Perhaps you have left system restore turned on though? That might enable you to go back to a point before these problems struck... certainly worth a try...

OK, so what do you want anyone here to do? You have given us absolutely nothing to go on. You may need to install (or reinstall) the sound drivers. Or you may have the volume turned down or muted. Or the speakers may be turned off. Or they may be plugged into the wrong port.

Is IE6 installed? If so Run the System File Checker

Go to the Run box on the Start Menu and type in:

sfc /scannow ( sfc if not reconized)

This command will immediately initiate the Windows File Protection service to scan all protected files and verify their integrity, replacing any files with which it finds a problem. You will need your Windows cd.

Hi guys!

I have purchased a laptop for my mom... and i have interchanged the ram between the new and my old one (4gb of ram for my mom is too much and i need it lol).
Here the data:
My laptop:
manufacturer recommends : 533mhz or 667mhz DDR2 SDRAM
And it has installed : x2 1GB 2Rx8 PC2-5300S-555-12

the new laptop:
manufacturer recommends : 800 DDR2 SDRAM
And it has installed : x2 2GB 2Rx8 PC2-6400S-666 12-E1

I have switched the memories; i put the x2 2gb of the new laptop in my old one and my x2 1gb in the new laptop.

So the new configuration is as follow:

My laptop

manufacturer recommends : 533mhz or 667mhz DDR2 SDRAM
And it has installed : x2 2GB 2Rx8 PC2-6400S-666 12-E1

the new laptop:
manufacturer recommends : 800 DDR2 SDRAM
And it has installed : x2 1GB 2Rx8 PC2-5300S-555-12
Everything is working fine but i want to know if there is something i should worry about what i did (despite i still dont know how 800mhz are working in my 533-667mhz system and how the new 800mhz laptop is working with 667mhz ram memory since memories are out of the recommended)
1vhnu.jpg at Free Image Hosting
vbda9.jpg at Free Image Hosting

Answer:Non compatible ram working fine, why?

I would check CPU-Z or some other program to see if the 800ram is running fast. it should downgrade to 667 since that is the Ram specified in the motherboard.

likewise, the 667 ram in the 800mhz system will only run at 667 unless it is overclocked (which is not recommended on laptops)

I have a emachine that was downloading norton updates ( may not be related to the issue ) and then shut down.  Now there is no power.  Changed the power supply and power cord, the led on the mother board comes on but still when hitting the power button I get nothing.  Checked all the connections and they are good.  Im thinking the cmos battery or the motherboard.  Is the cmos even a possiblity or could it be the power button connections wrong.  But Im not sure.

Answer:Working fine and then no power

If you have two RAM sticks, try booting with just one at a time. Try booting without any RAM and also with the hard disk (and any other drives) disconnected. Take the front cover off your PC - this should expose the power button, make sure it is clicking correctly when you switch the PC on. If you have a spare PC, try using your RAM in that to test it. Also try connecting your hard disk as a slave. You have already ruled out a faulty PSU, if you can also rule out faulty RAM and HDD, it will be either the CPU or motherboard that is at fault.

Hi
My friend has a Satellite C850-F12S laptop which did not want to boot so he asked me to fix it.
I used a retail Windows 7 disc and the product key under his laptop to reinstall the windows.

I downloaded the wireless drivers for realtek, intel, and Atheros but none of them want to install. I ant seam to get the wifi or the bluetooth too work.

When I input the serial number into this site it says that there is bluetooth and wifi but the drivers wont install and when I go to "networks and sharing", "change adapter settings" it only shows the ethernet adapter nothing else. I have tried pressing fn+f12 and the wireless led turns amber but still nothing.

I have ran out of ideas. Could someone help me to fix it please?
Thank you in advance

Answer:WLAN and BT are not working on Satellite C850-F12S

I cannot read this notebook specification (too small) but if at the bottom is product key that means that this notebook model was offered with original preinstalled Windows version.
Before you waste your time trying to fix something I recommend you to install this original OS version that includes all necessary drivers, tools and utilities.

I just hope your friend have created recovery media (DVD or USB) because after your Windows installation HDD recovery installation will not work.

Ask your friend if he has recovery media and use it for OS installation.

Hey everyone, So I got my brand new Ideacentre Y700 delivered today that I ordered from the Belgium Lenovo site. After setting and booting everything up I tried to connect to the internet but I couldn't find any wireless option in my settings, etc. So now I'm left wondering if there's even WLAN in this desktop. It was advertised on the site that it comes with it so I was wondering if anyone has had the same problem. Ethernet connection works fine. I already tried updating the drivers and BIOS but to no avail. What do you guys suggest? I'll definately contact them tomorrow but I was wondering if I may have overlooked something obvious. The productnumber, not serial number, is 90DF002DMB if that clarifies anything for you guys. Thanks for reading!

Hi everyone, I'm new here and was wondering if I could get some help with the most frustrating problem I've come across since I got this computer.

About a week ago, I was using my computer and although I had downloaded the next to latest Windows Update I had not restarted my computer for the changes to come into effect. I normally leave it running, so this was the first time in a couple of days that my machine was off, for any reason. After it booted back up, however, it could not connect to the internet either by LAN or WLAN even though it says it is connected and I can browse the other computers/devices on my network.

I disabled my wireless card in case of conflict and tried to connect solely by ethernet cord to my wireless router, but it did not work. I then tried giving it a direct connection to the modem, but still no dice. The router is definitely not the problem because the other wired and wireless devices around my house connect perfectly to the internet. I know the ethernet cord isn't a problem also as I've tried connecting my PS3 to the router with it and it worked fine.

Since I know the LAN hardware is there, I tried to reinstall the drivers from Dell's website (an Intel LAN driver and a Realtek one) but was told by the Realtek driver installer that there was no hardware detected which only served to confuse me further.

I only want to reinstall Vista if I really, really have to...but if it has to be done, it has to be done. Thanks in advance for any he... Read more

Hello

Since yesterday (but apperently 2 weeks) i am having problems with my LAN. My "network"-icon shows that my LAN has limited connection (yellow triangle + exclamation mark on it).

LAN related things:
- this problem started to occur about a week (or two) but it was always for a very short period. Only yesterday i got DC at 09.00 and it kept that way whole day. Today in the morning i could use LAN only for 30 hour
- WLAN is working 100%. Either i turn LAN or WLAN or both at the same time WLAN always works and sees all networks(in area) and is able to
connect to all of them.
- my cable router(and modem) is 100% working . I tried to connect it with other PC and it figured out IP automatically and worked as normal. + my notebook can see it in wireless networks
- I tried using other router(and internet provider) but it didnt work aswell. It(router) worked with other PC.
- LAN port's diods: non-stop green , yellow is turning on and off each 3 sec
- it started to work always after i shutted off my notebook for 30+ min, BUT it also turned on randomly (for few min) after few hours of work.
- my PC started to shut down randomly (but always after few hours of work) 2 weeks ago. Or it just froze (alt+F4, alt+del+ctrl, Esc didnt work). That's when i installed professional antivirus (panda 2010) which detected viruses: Downloader MDW, Vilsel Y, CI. A, Generic Trojan. Scan was on 19 may. Shutdowns started few days before scan , but LAN-problems happened after scan.... Read more

Hey guys,

Just replaced the hard drive, and put a new OS on a Dell Inspirion 1000. I restored it from a Gateway restore CD, and have downloaded the necessary drivers (or so I think.) Anyway, this laptop has wireless, but, whenever I try to launch the Dell Wireless WLAN Card Utility, nothing happens. I went to My Network Places and Network Connections, and each of them does not show the Wireless icon. If I click on "start a new wireless connection" it tries to get me to start a complete network.

There is no windows WLAN program there that I can find. It does have Service Pack 2.

Hi I'm hoping someone can help. I have a 10 of these all in one's which currently can't connect to our network wirelessly.  This only seems to be a problem since downgrading them to Windows 8.1 Enterprise x64. The operating system that originally came with them was Win 10, and the wireless worked. I?ve used number of different drivers, the 8.1 WLAN drivers recommended from Acer's website and tried previous versions of that driver, but to no success. I've also looked to see if any of the other drivers were missing, like the chipset etc but all seemed to be installed and working correctly. One last thing, the Win 8.1 WLAN drivers I tried from Acers website, I can get it to install, but then no signal bar appears for me to connect it to a network.  I then checked in device manger and there?s a hazard symbol over the wireless adapter. Obviously tried updating the driver from there, disabling / enabling it etc.  Am I missing something, has anyone else had this problem? Thanks for any input.

Hello all, we have some Optiplex 3040 Micros and have installed the Intel AC 8260 wireless card the same one listed on Dells build page. I have installed the drivers from the Dell downloads page and the OS Win10 64bit sees the hardware just fine. The problem is the wireless card although active does not see ANY wireless networks around it. I have the same issue on 3 new 3040's using 3 different cards. BIOS is updated to the latest 1.4.11.
Has any one used WLAN in the 3040 micro and if so what did it take to get it to work.

I have a 3 year old Dell Inspiron 1720 laptop with Vista SP2. I run FF, Malwarebytes and Avast AV.
More and more often I receive an error message telling me WLAN has stopped working and that I should close the program. Then, suddenly, everything is OK.
I went to the Dell Support and tried to download new drivers and also had to download an application manager which I did. Then I went back to download the relevant driver. All that happened was the application manager again which then told me there were no files to download.
Can someone please tell me
1. What I might have done wrong during the download session?
2. How I can 'repair' WLAN so that it all works properly again.

I might add that I had the same trouble with the Bluetooth driver. That won't work either.
Thank you

Hi there, I had issues with the Thunderbolt dock and downloaded and installed almost everything on the HP Support page, including the BIOS upgrade. I have gone through BIOS settings and ensured that I had WLAN/LAN switching and not Lock wireless button options. I reversed the options also to test. Either way, when I plug in the LAN it doesn't switch and because I can't turn off the wireless with the button next to the mute button, I have to go and disable the wireless adapter to use LAN. Which of course then forces me to re-enable it if I want WLAN which is very unproductive. Please assist.

My laptop used to be connected

1. wirelessly to a wireless router and
2. physically to a switch via ethernet cable to access other PCs on site

For years, I was able to

1. enjoy wireless internet access and
2. transfer big files to my other PCs via ethernet, having prioritised the LAN connection

All was well. After two months absence from work, I found the wireless router was broken, so I bought two new ones, same model as before, just in case. Windows 7 Enterprise also updated in the meantime.

Now, when the ethernet cable is plugged in, I have no wireless internet access ("Attempting to Authenticate... forever); when the ethernet cable is not plugged in, I have instant wireless access.

What could I do? I am puzzled... Thanks in advance for any advice!
