I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: hardware proxy server

There are internet appliances that are very expensive that allow you to share a connection. Just get a Cable/DSL router and a switch chained to it if you need more ports.

I appear to be the victim of some piece of malware or virus that has added a proxy server setting that I am unable to get rid of. The main symptoms are that I am unable to change my proxy server settings in Windows 10. It appears to use this setting http=127.0.0.1:8080;. The result of this is that I am unable to do searches in the omnibar of Google Chrome (just takes me to a blank page) and I can't visit certain webpages, also if I am able to do a Google search the "Search Tools" button is missing.

I looked around on the internet and have tried a few fixes, I've deleted or changed the registry entries mentioned in Philip Turner's reply here: https://community.spiceworks.com/topic/446898-can-t-disable-proxy-in-ie10?page=1

I also changed the entry mentioned here: https://fixedit.itxpress.biz/2014/10/08/unable-to-disable-windows-proxy-setting/

Making these changes allowed me to change the proxy server settings and once I change "Automatically detect settings" to on and "Use a a proxy server" to off then the issue is fixed and everything behaves normally.

The problem is, once I restart my computer the settings revert back and are again unable to be changed unless I delete/change all the above registry entries again. I'm pretty sure that whatever did this is still on my computer somewhere and I need some help finding and eliminating it. Either that, or there is still some hidden registry entry that I am unable to find.

Actually this is for my wife's computer, there is more than one issue. It is a Windows 7 64-bit machine. On Sunday she tried to get on the internet using Firefox. She kept getting a message similar to "Cannot connect to the proxy server". Well, we don't use a proxy server, or a firewall, so that message just indicates a setting is wrong on the browser. Checked it, it was correct for our situation. Hmmmm... that's odd. Tried IE and Chrome. Same message. Settings also correct for those browsers. Well, reboot it. She did. No luck, same message. Had her attempt to do a system restore for two days ago. She did. System booted up, looked fine, tried Firefox, same message. Tried rebooting again. This time, it starts the boot process, but goes to a completely black screen, flashes a quick message that says "Windows Loading", and that's it. The computer has been in that state since Sunday night with no change. It will not go into safe mode, have tried multiple times. I'm sure this is a bit of malware, but can't find anything about it. The computer is less than 3 months old, and has worked fine, so doubtful that the hardrive is trashed.

We run a web proxy server on our network for internet access.
On client machines (running Windows 2012 R2) I have configured the proxy server setting in Internet Explorer "Tools\Internet Settings\Connections\LAN Settings" to point at the designated web proxy server.
When attempting to browse websites from IE I receive the "The proxy server isn't responding" error.
Conversely, browsing the same sites via Google Chrome and Firefox (installed on the same client server) return web pages without error.
In addition, if I run Internet Explorer as administrator (Right Click\Run as Administrator), I am able to browse web sites without receiving the error.
It would appear that the issue is isolated to browsing via IE when not run in elevated mode.
Has anyone come across this issue?

Answer:Server 2012 R2 - Internet Explorer Proxy Server Issue

Hi Dicki,
First, please try to reset the Internet Explorer. Some plug-ins may affect the proxy.
If it doesn't work, please try to perform a network capture on the client.
Please check if the client send the http traffic to the proxy server at the correct port.
If the client has sent the http traffic to the proxy server, please check if there is any warning or error in the proxy server.
To download Network Monitor, please refer to the link below:

Hiya
This is a spoofing vulnerability that exists in the affected products and that could enable an attacker to spoof trusted Internet content. Users could believe they are accessing trusted Internet content when in reality they are accessing malicious Internet content, for example a malicious Web site. However, an attacker would first have to persuade a user to visit the attacker’s site to attempt to exploit this vulnerability.
Affected Software:

• Microsoft Proxy Server 2.0 Service Pack 1
• Microsoft Internet Security and Acceleration Server 2000 Service Pack 1 and Microsoft Internet Security and Acceleration Server 2000 Service Pack 2

Note The following software programs include Microsoft Internet Security and Acceleration Server 2000 (ISA Server 2000). Customers using these software programs should install the provided ISA Server 2000 security update.

• Microsoft Small Business Server 2000

• Microsoft Small Business Server 2003 Premium Edition

i am just messing about experimenting on a few things at home and wondered if someone could give me some pointers on the folowing:
I have myself a win2k server that is connected to the internet using a cable modem connected using a ethernet net card.
I also have a 98 machine networked to the server using another ethernet net card in a workgroup
I want to use the server as a proxy server so i can access the internet from the 98 machine
i have tried a few diffrent things to get this working but usually end up losing all communication with the 98 pc
from what i can gather it involves setting up tings with DNS, and sharing the connection to the internet, but i am not getting to far at the mo.
can anyone point me in the right direction or better tell me how to do it?

My company wants to install a Proxy Server and A firewall and A IIS Server? I don't think we need that much protection. I think a Proxy and IIS is enough. Any Ideas on this subject.

Answer:Do I really need a Proxy server, firewall and an IIS server?

IIS is not for security. IIS is Internet Info Server. This is used as a web\ftp server. Proxy and a firewall would be good for security.

I have started searching around for the correct docs on how to do this but haven't had much luck finding one that addresses what I'm trying to do.

I have an existing Windows 2000 server and am going to replace it with a server running Windows 2003 Server R2.

I would like to know the best way of doing that. Most of the docs I have seem talk about it as though you're keeping the same server hardware in place. That's not what I'm trying to do.

So, you don't have to go through all the steps I need to do. If you could just point me to the correct doc and give some helpful hints I would appreciate it.

Thanks.

I have a client with a web server running Windows 2000 Professional. They also have a server on the network running NT 4. They have been told that there is a device that will route requests to the NT server if the 2000 server is down that costs about $100. I have not heard of such an animal, and if anybody can shed some light on this I'd really appreciate it. The device should somehow, I suppose, automatically detect that the machine at IP address A is not responding, and route the web request to IP address B. Anybody?

Question: Proxy Server

Hey, i'm new to this proxy server thing, and recently learned that you can share an internet connection across the internet. I am at a boarding school, and they have almost everything blocked except for MSN hah, and a kid there had set up a proxy at his house, and connects to the unblocked internet from there. he didn't tell me much of how to do it, but only that it can be very dangerous. How do you do this thing??? Thank you very much in advance!!!

Answer:Proxy Server

Hello Racoonslayer I am sure you are a nice person, but it would be against the rules for you to be able to bypass the rules your school has placed on internet access & that would make us & you not so nice of people. I am a old guy by your standards but even at my age we have to live with rules to. Some of them I don't mind so bad but others really get under my skin, but we still get by and find something else to do.

ive heard something about tunneling, but ive read up on it and i dont really understand it. Any one got any explinations and some software that may be able to do it?

Thanks in advance

Answer:isa proxy server

buddy you are posting in the wrong forums alltogether. most of the users here including me dont know much more than basic networking.

from what i vaguely remember in my network class tunneling is a way to set up a (virtual?) private area network through public media such as the internet. it is a cheap and secure method of networking because the data is encrypted and carried over the internet and behaves like a LAN. all you need is the right operating system. tunneling is built in feature of some windows OS i beleive.

a better place to ask is...somewhere else. maybe at the microsoft forums or here:

Question: Proxy Server

A couple months ago I was helped on this forum for a really slow computer. One issue I had at that time was a proxy server kept coming up when I opened my internet explorer. Here's the link to my last issue
http://forums.techguy.org/windows-7/1126271-time-upgrade.html

Yesterday I installed a new Brother printer on my computer and the proxy server started again.

I went back to my last post and saw that Roguekiller was used first to address this issue. I downloaded it and tried to run it three times and when I do a blue screen comes up and shuts my computer down. I don't want to keep trying that and am not sure how to proceed to eliminate the proxy server.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Answer:Proxy Server

The proxy is being set and enables by a program called e-Rewards Notify that you had installed at the time and I assume you still have it or it came in again with the latest download. I understand it's some sort of notification software for surveys/opinions. If you didn't install it intentionally then uninstall it and the proxy issue should be sorted.

Hi,Can the forum members help with an explanation of what the function of a proxy server is,and how it benefits in hiding your IP address please.Cheers

Answer:Proxy server

You have more or less described what the proxy server does, it hides your IP address, I sometimes use it for going through another server if I find the server I'm using is not working properly. The other use is if you want to access a web site that blocks you from getting in, some of the USA sites do that by blocking UK IP addresses, by finding a US proxy I can usually get in without problem.

So far my understanding is that this can be achieved via a proxy server. Unfortunately I have no idea what this is or how it works. Question: No Proxy Server

I am trying to browse the internet with my computer but it's saying I need a proxy server. It's done this before but it let me choose a default proxy server, but now there is no default to choose from. I have no idea why it did this, it just happened randomly. My computer is a custom built computer, I'm not sure of the specs on it but it's about 4 years old and I am currently using Mozilla Firefox for the browser. I am so frustrated with it right now, any suggestions would be great! Thank you!

Answer:No Proxy Server

Do you have Firefox with "TorButton" installed ? If so, the proxy server refusing connections message happens when Vidalia isn't running. If you aren't trying to browse anonymously, click off the TorButton in the lower right hand corner of the browser window.

Try another browser. Internet Explorer or Google Chrome.

Answer:Proxy Server?

A proxy server is a program that acts as an intermediary between computers on your LAN and computers on the Internet. Proxy servers often have a cache built in to make web surfing faster. Some proxy servers also allow the filtering of web content or domains. Additionally, almost all proxy servers support logging.

Just like other internet connection sharing technologies, only one internet connection or internet IP address is needed to serve internet data to all of the workstations on your home network.

Workstations on your home network must request data (like web pages) from the proxy server to access the internet. The proxy server then fetches the internet data, checks it’s filters, and returns it to the workstation that requested it. Because a proxy server does all of the data requesting, each workstation must be configured to make all internet requests from the proxy server - not the internet. Sometimes software does not allow this sort of configuration and can not be used with proxy servers.

Since proxy servers are not a ‘transparent’ connection sharing technology, configuring a proxy server for more than basic web, ftp, news and mail functionality can be challenging for a beginner.

Question: Proxy Server?

Recently, I wasn't able to get into two specific web pages, msn.com and cnn.com, (only had problems with these two). I never had problems before, but now I kept getting the "Cannot Display Page" message. I contacted MSN and they told me it had to do with my ISP. My ISP, Adelphia Cable, switched my browser in the tools menu so that I went through a proxy server (proxy.buf.adelphia.net) to get me into these two sites. I don't understand why I have to use their proxy server? They told me it detours around an Atlanta router where the tracert route seemed to timed out? Can anybody tell me what's going on here? I never used a proxy server before, so why should I have to use one now? They tell me a proxy server has a time delay so if you have to make an investment trade there could be a problem.

However, this is the first time working with anything dealing with proxy services. I think I am a little confused on the concept of a "proxy" service. I know its main goal is to block protocol content...mainly for web dealings and whatnot. However, Where is the proxy server supposed to sit on the network?

We only want to use this proxy server for 1 PC. The pc has 2 nic cards, but I do not know whether or not this PC has to be synched up with ADS, plugged into a switch in the network, and also plugged into our firewall?!??!

If anyone could give me some information or link me to some, I would appreciate it.

1- When you use a proxy to the browser. Do that change the router settings. Or is the only browser.
2- Do use a proxy change IP
3- Do that change the internal IP FOR computer or only change IP that can obtain from a software that detect IP for pc

Answer:proxy server

Hi, zf490. I'll do my best to answer your questions, but you can read this for all the boring details: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Proxy_server1. I'm fairly certain you can only have proxy options for a browser, not a router...but I haven't looked at my router's settings in a while, and I don't have access to it right now, so I'm not sure on this one.2. Yes, using a proxy changes your IP address.3. I understand the question, but I'm not positive of the answer, as I do not have experience with proxies.Basically, the premise of a proxy is this: you want to change your IP address for some reason (usually due to restrictions of your country of residence). Using a proxy reroutes your connection to all websites through the proxy server you chose to use. This makes your IP address appear to come from the location of the proxy server instead of your actual location. Think about it like tracing a phone call. If you put up some sort of filter/firewall, you can give the call tracer a false location (I assume this is possible, I don't really know...it just seemed like a good analogy).A good example is this: I wanted to watch a certain video, but the website would not allow me to because I don't live in Canada (wasn't my location). If I had used a proxy that routed through Canada, I would have been able to watch the video. But I didn't care enough to go to that trouble. If you want to experiment with proxies, I have no recommendations, as I have never used one myself. Just be careful if y... Read more

Question: Proxy server

We have recently updated our environment to IE11.
The machines in question use a point of sale application that loads immediately after reboot (every night) so it does not load explorer. At this point IE works fine and loads the allowed web sites. and the proxy server is there in IE under LAN connections
When the application is terminated and explorer executed, it applies its personalized settings for web platform customization. And the proxy server is missing from IE LAN connections, you can add it manually and it works fine afterwards. But not an ideal
solution in a big environment like ours

The proxy server is still in the registry, but not applied to IE settingsAll these machines are in a workgroup and not part of a domain (not an option!)I removed the active set up component for the web platform customization, made no differenceRe ran the reg edit file with the proxy server, no joy
Does anyone have any ideas on what causes this issue? There have been updates in relation to the IE update. And is there a way to force IE to look at the registry for its proxy server? Or even better stop what is causing the removal of the proxy server from
IE in the first place?

I'm seeking information on how to go about setting up a proxy server. Currently we deny internet access by machine. That works well if the employee at the machine has no legit reason to be on the internet but it doesn't help with employees that do need the internet just not all of it. Basically i'm interested in setting up something that can block by website. The router has this feature but only for four sites (really cheap router for now). Thanks for your assistance.

Jesse

Answer:How to set up a proxy server

You simply install some proxy software on a machine and set up a firewall rule on the router that allows traffic only from the proxy machine. Configure all the clients to use the proxy.

Unless you have a fast connection and lots of clients, any old crap PC should be able to do the job.

Squid+Linux would be the most popular and logical choice, but there are other operating system and proxy suites that work just as well.

Question: Proxy server?

Okay well before I start I'm just going to apologize for my complete lack of computer knowledge so if I left out information you need to help me, just let me know and how to get the information.

Well, i wasn't having this issue before but I am now and I don't know why, but I can't do certain things on the internet, such as signing into my yahoo messenger or getting on my myspace account. When I troubleshoot it always comes up with something to do with my HTTP connection or my proxy server. Yahoo messenger told me to go into my Internet Options>Connections>LAN Settings and then to check the box saying 'use a proxy server for your LAN' and then click on advanced and verify my address and port. But there is nothing in any of those boxes. I have not messed with or changed any settings lately but it just started doing this. Can someone please give me step by step easy instructions on how to fix this? I would be so very thankful.

Not sure if proxy servers are against the rules. I have been looking for a USA proxy server FOR AGES! I cant seem to find one that works. I'm using the switch proxy plug in for Mozilla Firefox.

If anyone knows any USA anonymous proxy servers that work please help me out. If proxy servers are against the rules then just ignore me or delete this please.

If i put this is the wrong forum (which i probably did) move it or delete it or tell me where to put it. I just thought seeming im using a Firefox plug in to use proxies it might as well be this one.

Hello,

I'm hoping someone can help me please?

I'm using a high speed cable modem and Internet Explorer under XP. About a year ago, I learned how to use a Proxy Server. I just upgraded my cable to "high speed" and want to use a proxy server for increased privacy and security.

Using Internet Explorer, I went to the Tools Menu, Internet Options, Connections, LAN settings. Then checked the Proxy Server box and entered a proxy adress of: http://proxy and port of 8080.

Should I check the Bypass Proxy Server for Local Addresses box? Does that make any difference?

Can anyone please advise me what is likely going wrong? When I try to connect, I get one of those: "Cannot find server or DNS address" errors. I'd like to use a proxy server. What am I doing wrong?

Question: Proxy Server

I have a small network with one win2k pro machine and two 98 machines. One of the win98 machines is the internet gateway with analog proxy server - internet sharing works fine - the problem is that some applications are not able to access the internet thru the proxy, ie, fresh download and internet play games (anarchy online specifically).

The error that fresh download presents is "connection refused, (error10061)". I have searched and only found references to this error referring back to i.e. 5.0 and below - I have i.e. 6.0 on all machines.

Any ideas???

Answer:Proxy Server

Hi,

Possibly you'll need to open up the necessary TCP ports. For that specific application (Anarchy Online), you'll need to open the following ports:

80, 7012, 7500-7504

That info is found on the Anarchy Online Support site btw......

I've never really used AnalogX proxy, so I'm not sure exactly how to get to the TCP port settings, however, I imagine it would be accessible through a Firewall Tab or something.

Much as I can live without Incredimail and it's alleged Spyware, it's bloated E:Mails and it's inefficiencies, even after the company has been repeatedly informed that they are lacking in the most basic of Message Rules, my wife and kids love it !!!
In case you don't know, the Message Rules do not allow you to check if the E:Mail is addressed to you, and if it is not, then to leave it on the server, so I constantly get E:Mails forwarded to Outlook Express from my kids that are for me, but they 'accidentally' downloaded "a few days ago" ... yeah, and the rest !!! ... Oh, I should point out that this happens when you have multiple E:Mail addresses under a single useried ... i.e. [email protected], [email protected] & [email protected] ... Incredimail cannot differentiate between these and will download them all if somebody presses the Send & Receive button !!!

An obvious and presumably easy upgrade of their Message Rules would be the most obvious and easiest way around this, I've asked them numerous times but they certainly haven't taken my advice on board as there has been a recent new release with no changes to Message Rules !!!

So, eventually, to my workaround ... does anybody know of any (decent/cheap/free) software that will sit between my PC and the E:Mail programs and perform a similar service to Outlook Express's rules ?!? I have found a few programs that perport to act as servers, but they are very complicated to set up & I'm still no... Read more

Hi Fred, I'm a network administrator for a large Reservation in Minnesota. One of my users asked me if it would be all right to install a new E-mail client package called Incredimail, I checked out the http://www.incredimail.com website and noticed stellar recommendations from Cnet, ZDnet, and Tucows so I downloaded the demo to check it out. The agreement itself is extremely long... but the attached excerpt from the agreement almost knocked me out of my chair:

Question: Proxy Server

Hi,
Can anyone please advise?
Firstly what's a'Proxy Server'
I use Internet Explorer 8, my ISP is Virgin.
1. I had problems accessing a particular internet account, their staff advise the following action Tools>Internet Options>Connections>LAN settings Proxy Server tick box and gave me address to insert and a port number.
Problem solved.

2.Some time later I found that I could not access a secure part of my ISP's site, access to some other sites had also slowed. I found that reversing the above instructions gave me access to the secure access of my ISP's site but that the original problem still existed.

Do I now have to use a Proxy server every time I wish to access 1. or is there some way to set up that will accept both?

Question: proxy server

I have not been able to get any updates, I keep getting an error message "unable to connect to proxy server"  anyone know about this and what that means?  Thanks

Answer:proxy server

hi dicksonn,

Welcome to the forums.

When you said "I have not been able to get any updates", do you mean Windows Updates?

The "unable to connect to proxy server" error means that your internet connectivity passes through a proxy setting before it reaches its destination but is being denied access (by default, the system doesn't use any proxy setting).

Things that you can try:
1.-Uncheck the "Use a proxy server for your LAN" under the Internet Options.
    - Link to picture

2. Press the Windows key? +R, type appwiz.cpl and press Enter. On the list of installed programs, check if you have a Proxy / VPN Tunneling app., a survey, or a game that you didn't install (that may have installed a proxy setting) and uninstall it.

3. Perform a clean boot and rrestart the machine
    - this method temporarily disables non-microsoft apps/services that's interfering with the internet connection. If everything works fine, enable the apps/services one by one to isolate which item is causing the conflict.

EDIT:
Check also the thread below for more info and solutions

System Update - Cannot connect to proxy server

Let me know how it goes.

That's your problem. Unless you have a public hotspot near you the wifi signal would be from someone's private router. They are well within their rights to put a proxy server on it to restrict access.

You are aware of the performance hit you'll take, right? I'd recommend as a first step seeing if the same videos are offered on servers in your country.

Failing that, you can configure your web browser to use a proxy, but to offer instructions, we'll need to know which browser and version you are using.

Answer:proxy server?

You are saying that some internet connectivity is present but not a few sites?
Do you have 1 antivirus program and at least two good, recommended anti-spyware programs that you run regularly?
Might want to start with basic security measures and possibly get some help in that arena,

http://www.techsupportforum.com/f50/...lp-305963.html

Sometimes system restore will correct the problem, but without measures it is almost sure to return.

Question: Proxy Server

I don't know what happened but today when I tried to enter IE I received this message:

The proxy server isn't responding

Check your proxy settings. Go to Tools > Internet Options > Connections. If you are on a LAN, click "LAN settings".Make sure your firewall settings aren't blocking your web access.Ask your system administrator for help.

If I go to LAN and remove the block with a check beside the proxy sever IE starts, however, if I log off and try to reenter the proxy server box has a check mark.
How can I fix this
Thanks

Answer:Proxy Server

If you do not use a proxy server it should not be checked so you may have just fixed your own problem. How did it get checked? Who knows? For comparison, I do not require a proxy:

Question: Proxy server

Hey guys,
just wondering how would you go about setting up a proxy server that users have to log in to, to monitor usage and cache common websites.
I have an old machine that I'd like to use for the job, just wondering how I would set it up.
Cheers

Question: Proxy server

Recently Windows updated both my partner's and my laptop with 23 updates for Vista. Ever since those updates over the weekend my partner keeps on getting a proxy server window appear on his desktop asking for a password.

We have Virgin wireless broadband and changed over from 3 Broadband. I told my partner to uninstall 3 Broadband, which he has done but it still comes up with this window. We have gone into all the Internet connection windows and unticked any option for a proxy server and it still comes.

Is there anything we can do that we haven't tried yet?

Answer:Proxy server

Ok, this question is quite old, so I'm going to take a stab at it!

I'm assuming that since you have Virgin wireless and going from 3 broadband that you are in the UK. I have zero experience with anything in the UK as b/c I'm in the US. Nevertheless, I'm going to try and assist you the best I can.

I'd say uninstall all Virgin wireless & 3 Broadband software that is on the computer. IF the virgin wireless connection is a regular wireless router in your home, then just simply connect to the wifi network is shows when you use the built in wifi software for windows, enter the wireless password & you should be good to go. IF the virgin wireless connection is a USB adapter, then reinstall the software accordingly, run the program and it should connect. As for this proxy window popping up, I'm really not sure why it's doing that, is it a windows proxy window or a window from the virgin wireless software?! either way, take a screenshot & post back.

Also post back specs on the system in question, info on the type of wireless connection you have from virgin wireless (USB, PCMCIA, wifi hotspot device, etc.).

Hope this helps, take care!
