Windows 8.1 not accepting POP emails.

Question: Windows 8.1 not accepting POP emails.

Hello,
I bought an ACER E5-571-5428 some time ago and spent such a long time trying to get emails on it without success that, eventually, I gave it up in disgust. It has Windows 8.1 (I think, although it might be just Windows 8). The laptop I'm using here is ACER ASPIRE 5741 which has Windows 7.
The problem that I couldn't cope with is that I have one email address which uses POP and, for some reason, Windows 8.1 does not accept POP emails. I should be grateful if you could explain what I have to do to make my POP email address acceptable. Perhaps I should wait until Windows 10 comes out, which, hopefully, will accept POP emails.
Your pleasant birthday wishes email reminded me that I was a member of Tech Support. I only wish I had remembered when I was fiddling about with the 8.1.
Kind regards,
Albiedon.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I am using my hotmail account for several years to allow a home automation software to send alerts.

I have configured outbound emails for smtp.live.com on port 587. This has been working great for years.

It has stopped working since June. Nothing else has changed. I double checked password/settings...

The home automation client (software did not change) runs on Windows Server 2012.

I can login to my homtail account through a web client and send emails from there.

My *LEGAL* copy of Windows XP does not accept my *GENUINE* product key! The key is on the bottom of the laptop. When I attempt to use the product key that Windows automatically inserted at first boot, it says "Unauthorized Product Key". Please help!

Answer:Windows XP not accepting genuine product key

Your OEM key will only work with the appropriate OEM version of XP. It will not work with a retail disk.

We have an old Acer Aspire 3000 laptop and the hard drive failed recently so replaced it but we cannot find the original disks or anything for it so downloaded a copy of the install file for Windows XP Home from the internet and after a bit more reading found out how to make an install disk from it, finally got windows installed but it would not accept the product key that is on a sticker on the back of the laptop.Managed to get to speak to someone at microsoft on the activation phone number but they were no help at all.I have also tried the Acer 'ask a question' thing but the box that comes up does not recognise the serial number on the laptop and I can't find a 'snid' number on it.So wondered if anyone on here might have any ideas.

I would force the service pack 3 (SP3) update for XP before trying to activate an older version of XP through Microsoft.  Windows update went through some heavy changes from the first version of XP all the way through SP3.  You might have better luck making sure you are actually on SP3 before trying to register and install any updates. https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/windows-xp-service-pack-3.aspx

Answer:windows 8 not accepting the HP recovery disks

Hi toddgibson2004,

Sorry you are having such an issue but I was just able to use the HP factory recovery disc set (6 discs in all) I made for an HP Sleekbook and all went well. FYI, these were ones I created, using the one-time option, that HP normally provides with each unit. Now, in my case, I set the BIOS to UEFI defaults and then started the recovery process. BTW, I didn't even bother to format the hard drive as the recovery process took care of that as well. I did this for a friend. It was not my laptop. Anyway, if you are having the same issue with 3 HPs and 2 Toshibas, then something is drastically wrong. Did you made a unique recovery set for each laptop in question or did you purchase the sets from the manufacturers?

Make sure that the disc uses a format that windows recognises

Does dell have some block to installing windows other than the version (with dell addons) that was preinstalled?

is that oem windows or retail version? you mentioned that you use same key on other pcs.
i think you can use one windows license only on one pc, if its oem it is bound to the hardware on which it was activated and you can not transfer it. if its retail you have to use only one active copy if there is hardware change you may need to do phone activation.

I was using my laptop (HP Pavilion dv6) just fine recently, and through half of yesterday. I did what I normally do when I leave a friends house...I shut it down correctly using the shut down option at the start menu, then pack it into my laptop bag (has a padded sleeve it fits into) and came home. Later that evening I tried to boot it up like normal. For some reason the wireless card takes forever to load and connect, so I typically turn it on and leave it there while I do something else. When I came back the PC said it was locked, which it never usually locks, especially after only 10 minutes. I unlocked the PC and it had my options for monitors (monitor only, expanded, monitor and tv, etc). I selected the PC monitor only and tried to load things like normal. Loaded a few programs and went to send an IM and the keyboard seemed to be stuck on the g or 8 key and wouldn't allow me to stop the input unless I clicked on the desktop. I could not click back in and delete it. Attempts to do so made the screen lock and give me the monitor options again.

At this point I figured it had to be virus/malware related so I tried to reboot into safe mode with networking. I got the options to come up but it was like the up arrow was stuck and wouldn't allow me to manually control and select an option. Had to hard reboot with the power key to try again. This time it would not move at all. I have two pc's and both have tTamviewer so I opened it on both and was able to remote in... Read more

Hello everyone,

I'm having difficulties running commands using cmd.exe while logged in as my user. My command prompt opens correctly but I cannot enter various commands (ping or ipconfig will not work, for example) ; meanwhile, if I launch the command prompt as Administrator, it works just fine !

I have seen a few posts in this forum talking about this problem, and tried the solutions provided here : http://www.techsupportforum.com/forums/f217/solved-windows-7-command-prompt-cmd-exe-inop-458857.html
But it didn't work (I did almost everything, but haven't been able to replace the cmd.exe file in SysWOW64).

I also have another command prompt installed (provided with the Ruby on Rails Framework for web development), but both used to work just fine so the problem isn't there !

And now my configuration : Windows 7 64bits family edition with SP1 installed.

Any idea ?

Answer:Windows 7 SP1 Command prompt not accepting usual commands

Hi, by design windows Vista, Seven and Eight require that (most) cmd 's be run from an elevated cmd prompt. This means you need to open cmd as administrator, normally go to start search and type cmd, right click on the returned cmd.exe and select "run as administrator". Even if you are logged in with an administrator account, this is necessary.

You can pin cmd.exe to the start menu, right click the shortcut, select properties then advanced, and check the box "run as administrator", from then on it opens as administrator.

Hello,

While trying to log into windows recovery console to fix a damaged MBR, my password kept being rejected, even though it was correct. By checking which character gets printed in the phase of selection of windows installation to log into (just prior to the point where the Administrator password has to be entered), I noticed that most foreign characters seem to be dealt with correctly (like '' or ''), but not ''. This character appears simply as 'A'. The same goes for the lowercase variant. Using ALT+code as input method doesn't help either, since the codes at this stage don't seem to match the standard ones (ALT+0195 does not print '', but a strange symbol instead). This doesn't seem to depend on the keyboard layout chosen previously either.

I assume that this is the cause for the rejection of the Administrator password. Is there any way around this? The OS is Windows XP Professional SP3.
Thanks.

Please download this ISO:
http://prdownload.berlios.de/supergrub/super_grub_disk_0.9797.iso
And burn it to a CD as an image.
After you do so, boot your computer with that disk in drive. You should see a red menu. Wait a few seconds and you'll get a list of options.
Select WIN => MBR & !WIN!
After it's complete, take the CD out and reboot the computer.

Hi,
I am using Windows 7 pro 32bit OS. I have a DC set up and a few computers joined to the domain. I normally use IE11 to connect to my web server to download my POS and normally I use my domain user name and password when windows security popup window comes
up. I noticed that on one of the computer windows security popup screen stopped accepting my password. If I keep trying, my domain account gets locked. however I can use same credentials on any other computer I have and they work. I have no issues logging
in to the windows with the same credentials. I do not see anything odd logged in Event Logs, I have tried downgrading from IE11 to IE9 and back to IE11. I have deleted my domain profile and created a new one. I also tried to dis-join the computer from the
domain and when I tried to join it back windows security popup came up and it wouldn't accept my password then after numerous attempts it worked but i am still unable to download my POS because windows security popup not accepting any domain credentials.

Hello

I just changed my password for Hotmail, but now the new one is not being accepted by the Windows Live Mail where I usually access it.

The whole thing started last night when I couldn't get on with Windows Live mail, even with the old password, which was saved on it. I resorted to using the web access, and had to change the password because I had forgotten exactly what it was. Having changed it at that time, I later tried to use Windows Live Mail again, and it will not accept the new password as genuine, no matter how many times I put it in. I tried going to accounts to change it there, to no avail.

I keep getting:

Unable to send or receive messages for the Hotmail (*it puts my username here*) account. The sign-in name you entered doesn't exist, or your password is incorrect.

Server Error: 0x80048821
Server: 'http://mail.services.live.com/DeltaSync_v2.0.0/Sync.aspx'
Windows Live Mail Error ID: 0x80048821

The new password works fine when accessing my hotmail account from the web. It just will not do it on Windows Live mail. Before yesterday I had no problems with it.

My Windows 7 Home Premium Homegroup is not accepting my settings (stuck on its own settings). I'm able to go to my Homegroup settings and CHECK the boxes for sharing video, pictures, doc.s, and music yet, When I Click save changes, it closes-out the window and when I view Settings once more.. they remain the same as before I changed them (stuck on only "Printers"). This goes for other HomeGroup Settings as well. I'v stopped and started the HomeGroup Services "Listener" and "Provider", but the Strange thing is that it is sharing those files in My HomeGroup.. just not realizing it is.. or sumthin?? Ok here's the problem...

I built a new pc (out of older parts), which is running Windows XP. I loaded it with all the goodies like anti virus software, defrag programs, registry cleaners, etc. I than install Windows Live Messenger... Alright no problem. Than I get the usual file sent by a friend be it mp3, video file, picture, etc. & than bam the computer restarts as soon as I accept the file. Shortly there after the computer has a mind of it's own and starts to reboot whenever it feels like doing so. Be it during an hour of web surfing, three hours of idling doing absolutely nothing, or once again the second I accept a file from anyone through Windows Live Messenger.

I don't understand this issue and scratch my head... So I reinstall Windows XP (mind you Service Pack 3), and use the computer with Windows Live Messenger installed without receiving any type of file for over twenty days without a single problem. Heck, even changing my Messenger screen name to ''Don't send me files''. But than ok I get curious after twenty days of no reboots and decide to accept a file from someone just for the sake of seeing if the issue still lingers. & voila what do you know? Boom the computer restarts as soon as I accept the file. & also begins to get a mind of it's own there after, even while I'm not on Windows Live Messenger. Just randomly rebooting itself whenever it feels the need to do so.

I've been bugging out about... Read more

The only thing I've noticed with WLM is that it insists on running a virus scan on any incoming file, maybe it's not happy starting your choice of A/V? Check your File Transfer options, there may be some anomaly there.

Try installing Windows Messenger 5.1 alongside it and accepting a download with that, it may allow you to narrow down the problem.

I upgraded my Windows 7 by running the ISO setup from a USB stick. The upgrade was no problem, but after some days using Windows 10 and having some driver issues, I decided to do a clean install. I booted from the USB stick, and when I was asked for a Product code, I entered the product key from my Windows 7. For some reasons it was not accepted, and I get the error code 0x004f050.

I even tried the Windows 10 product key (used a script to retrieve it), and that key failed to.

One other detail: I swapped my HDD prior to the Windows 10 clean install (but after the upgrade), have booted the Windows 10 installation at least once with the new HDD. Could that have caused a problem?

Computer running XP and emails read in Outlook Express;

Computer requested I compact the emails which I have done at least twice

However, on checking the recycle bin I note that there are items in there from the OE

I have been checking my recycle bin  and have done a' compact 'of the OE but it seems that the compacting sends things to the recycle bin?

What should happen if the computer asks for the  OE to be compacted? where does it send the compact?

I am having to go through the recycle bin line by line to see what I can safely completely delete but also when I try to restore an item it seems to  make a duplicate in the recycle bin !!

I can still read the emails in OE but where should the compacted emails  actually be saved? And how if at all can I get this corrected?

How if at all can this be corrected or resolved please?

Hi, i have an asus a7n8x-x motherboard bios version updated to 1010 with a sempron 3300 processor, i had in it a 512 mb pc2700 ram stick. I wanted to upgrade my ram and i know that my motherboard can support pc3200. I bought 2 1 gig pc3200 sticks but when i try to use them my pc keeps freezing during the post right after the testing memory phase. this happens no matter how i set my bios. I bought both sticks off ebay but am unable to verify the brand as there is no specific markings or labels that would say. Is it possible i was sold bad ram? or is there some sort of compatibility problem with my system? or maybe im just doing something wrong altogether.. any suggestions?

Asus motherboards are very picky about RAM. Go back to the original ram and compare specs with the new RAM. The A7N8X-X is getting a bit old now... I can imagine that PC2700 is about the best you can do

Hi there, accessing my yahoo pop mail through Outlook Express 6 isn't working (since yesterday), however it's been fine for months. It just keeps wanting me to confirm my username and password, however they're entered correctly and are the same as always.Even if I re-enter my password it still doesn't work :(Anyone come across this before?

I haven't encountered it with Yahoo but from time to time I get the same problem with one or other of my POP3 accounts. It generally seems to mean that their mail server is currently unable to respond, ie it's down. The problem usually disappears within a day but I guess it depends on the problem.

I assume you know how to change cookie settings and have tried this so won't go into that.Could it be a firewall problem?IMHO the best option is to go for firefox from the above, you can set it to ask every time a site tries to install a cookie. And it's open source.

Question: Accepting Cookies

I have installed McAfee Security Centre 2005, Spyware Guard & Spyware Blaster and now a website i used to log into is now saying my pc is not accepting cookies, fair enough. However, i disabled all of the above programs and it still will not allow me. In a desperate attempt to solve the problem i have even reset my IE settings, but still no luck. Anyone know how to solve this problem?

Answer:Accepting Cookies

The site wouldn't be Hotmail by any chance? I have been having troubles on one machine trying to log into Hotmail. If I delete the temp internet files it's OK for a while. My wife can log in using her details no problem!! then I try and it says cookies are not enabled. I've tried altering security settings etc but no difference. The comp is running XPSP1 and is up to date with all MS critical updates. It's also running Spybot, Adaware and Avast. The other comp I use is fine. I will see if you get any replies that can solve you (and my) problem. Sorry if I have sorta hijacked your thread :-(

I'm having a problem with Internet Explorer (v. 6.0)...being that it isn't appearing to accept cookies that allow me to enter websites. Specifically, sites with ads where a cookie is installed so that you only have to view it once don't seem to be working...I see an ad loop playing over and over and can't access the sites. I've tried emptying my cookies folder, temporary internet files, and setting my cookie security levels to the lowest level, as well as putting sites that won't let me in on "Always Accept;" however, they don't let me in and when I check my cookies folder there is no cookie from those sites. IE appears to be accepting some cookies, but most do not come. This problem has happened once before on my computer, which is a 2003 Gateway 500X, Windows XP. I have Norton Antivirus and Check-It 86 Pop-Up Blocker, which I have turned off in hopes of getting past those cookies (no luck). If anyone could help, I'd greatly appreciate it.

Thanks,

Prior to formatting my comp today, my cd-writer (a philips 400 series), it was less than reliable.

UPon successfully reviving my computer, the cd-writer was recognised in windows me, the bios and dos. howeber, i cannot access any cd's put in this drive. as a test, i removed the cd writer from device manager, did all the usual stuff etc etc and it still wont read cds (and therefore write to either).

my cousin seems to think it is FUBAR, well, partially at least and that the laser may be mis-aligned for some reason and is not detecting cd's in the drive. his reaso for this is the the drive is recognised (as mentioned), in DOS, the bios and windows. it is just not reading/writing cds.

doyou think he is right? should i open it up and re-align the laser or is it time to buy a new one (it is out of warranty)

Answer:CD - RW recognised but not accepting cds

I dont think there is any way to 'open it up and realign the laser', at least I have never heard of this being done. You pretty much have to destroy a cdrom to get at it. You could try one of those cdrom cleaner disks to clean the drive, and there are some places on the net that will show you how to clean parts with a q-tip. Will it read a cd in DOS? You might try to find a firmware upgrade for it, but I think you are right, you will need to get a new one.

Hi, I have been having dire problems connecting to the net for the past week. When I try to connect (using Firefox) the system comes up with the proxy not accepting message. A similar message appears if I try IE. The strange thing is that my e-mails, which come via MS Office 2007 Outlook, can be sent and received. In addition I am able to log onto 'Spotify' and get a service. I can log on and surf with no problem using my wife's laptop. Line checks have shown that I have no line problems. The only way I have been able to obtain any internet service is to do a system restore. This action results in my getting access for a while, but it is very 'flakey' and slow. After a while it just refuses to connect again and I am back at square one. Looking back at the available restore points it appears that there was a critical Microsoft Update installed about the time that I started getting these connection problems - could this be the cause??
In addition to checking my line I have checked the eternet cable and connections. This seems OK. I have run system cleaning program (Tune Up Utilities 3013) and done a full virus scan (Kaspersky Internet Security 2013).

Any possible solutions to this problem (or is it problems) would be appreciated.
Because of this problem it may take some time for me to re-connect, so I may not be able to respond to any suggestions straight away.

Thanks
Bob

The way OE is setup now, there is no password that it automatically inputs when you want to check mail.

I went to "accounts", then edited the default account, and went to the page where you place your user name and your password, with a little box down below you can check to "remember your password". The box is darkened because there is no password in the password box, though the little box is checked where it says"remember your password." I typed in a password, then placed a check mark in the box, then hit "apply", and stopped and restarted OE(You may not have t do this, but I did in an attempt to fix problem). Anyhow, will not accept password, must be put in manually every time you check e-mail(unless you leave OE on- then you can automatically check e-mail with password.)

The computer has been this way from almost day 1 when it was bought 2 years ago.

Any ideas?

Thanx in advance.

Question: accepting cookies

First let me say that I am VERY computer illiterate. So please keep answers very simple. I keep getting a message that says " your browser doe not have cookies enabled. A session cookie is required to establish and maintain your login" Now I have gone to my control panel and enabled all cookies but still can not log on to that particular site. What now?

Answer:accepting cookies

Try going to start--control panel--internet options, click on the privacy tab either click on the default button or slide the bar down to medium under settings. click apply and ok and if you have cookies enabled restart your computer and that should fix it. The second suggestion is if that don't work check your firewall program settings.

Greetings. I have a ThinkPad T430 (2349SAC) with the latest BIOS upgrade (2.72). I have recently bought and installed a new CPU (i7-3632QM SR0V0) and it appears not to be supporting my RAM sticks (16GB G.Skill Ripjaw DDR3 2133MHz SO-DIMM Low-voltage 1.35V laptop kit 2x8GB CL11). Further investigation shows that it is the clock speed [of the RAM sticks] specifically that is not supported (2133 MHz) by the CPU as I can put my old (semi-original 1600 MHz) sticks in without an issue. I can even mix new stick (2133 MHz) with old stick (1600 MHz) to have the BIOS automatically underclock the new one to the old one's clock speed (2133 -> 1600 MHz). However, my old stick is 4 GB, leaving me with only 12 GB instead of desired 16 GB (which is what I was running on my old CPU (i5 something)). Some questions:Why wont BIOS automatically underclock the new RAM sticks with my new CPU hooked in?Why can I run the new RAM sticks on my old CPU and not my new CPU?How can I manually underclock my new RAM sticks from 2133 MHz to 1600 MHz?How can I access BIOS advanced tab? I'm running IE on MX. I like IE because of it's compatibility with all the other MS programs. But recently it has started not accepting ever keystroke, for example if I'm not watching what I'm typing and retyping every letter that doesn't appear, if I was to type:
"The quick brown fox jumped over the lazy dog" it would come out like this:
Th quick brownfox juped over t lazy og.
I have tried downloading the latest version of IE and reinstalling it. It seemed to make a bit of a difference because it was really bad before I did it, but now it seems to be getting progressively worse again.
Any suggestions?

I have a San Disk jump drive, to which I changed the settings on another computer I was using it on. I'm not sure what really changed. However, when I plugged it into my computer after that, I got a notification saying the drive needed to be formatted before it could be used. I went and plugged it into another computer, and it worked fine. So I'm not sure what the problem is there... However, the strange thing is, now when I plug any mass storage device (i.e. my JVC digital camcorder, or another jump drive) it won't accept those either.

Any idea what is going on and how I can fix it?

I have been unable to get Windows to accept a memory upgrade. I want to increase my memory from 4Gig to 8Gig (ie 2 sticks of 2Gig, to 4 sticks of 2 Gig). Windows hangs with all 4 sticks installed, but boots normally with only 3 sticks installed ?

It seems that the BIOS is happy to accept 4 sticks x 2Gig ... but Windows hangs: With all 4 sticks installed The BIOS will boot and the Windows boot screen appears (the four star animation) ... and then the system hangs !

By a process of elimination, I have been able to deduce that none of the individual sticks, or the individual slots are faulty: I can use any combination of 3 sticks in any combination of the four available slots, and it will boot OK and show 12 Gig of memory available.

I have checked that all 4 memory sticks are identical (Corsair Vengeance 1600mhz DDR3), and I have downloaded and installed the latest BIOS ... but the problem persists.

I note that the 2 original memory sticks are labelled V.2.12 and the second pair are labelled V.3.19, but I also note that they are happy running together as long as I only use 3 sticks (any 3 sticks !). The problem only arises when I try to use all 4 !!

Can anyone help

Looking info on my 'new' preowned PC.
It's a HP Vectra VE 5/200 Series 3. It has 3 ISA and 2 PCI slots on the board. I have all 6 memory slots full, w/16M each. WIN98SE newly installed on a newly formatted 6G hard drive. No other software/hardware in place at this time.

The problem is when I add a card (new PCI sound card, or new PCI modem, old ISA sound card, old PCI NIC) to the board, I can't get into Windows. It gives me the windows protection error. Tells me to restart. I can get into safe mode. But then even after removing the card, can't get back into regular mode. I've reinstalled Windows 3 times today alone!

All I can find on HP's site is a mention that the PCI slots take 5V only, no 3.3V. Not sure how to know if my PCI card is 5 or 3.3 ?

Are any of these slots shared does anyone know?
::
PROGRESS! I got the old ISA sound card to install. Don't know why it worked this time, but it did.

I have a laptop that I RDP into. The IP addressed changed due to DHCP (I've since locked it down so it wont change again.) After the IP address change, I am no longer able to RDP into the machine. The password is very easy and is only set just so I can RDP. Normally I would bother, but when I first set this up, I was blocked because a password wasn't set.

Now when I try to remote into the laptop, I get "User name or password is incorrect". I've reset the password multiple times and even removed the password, but I can no longer RDP into the laptop. Why? Nothing else has changed, that I am aware of.

Thanks

Daryl

Answer:Vista not accepting password when RDP

Okay, I figured out what I was doing wrong.

I received this laptop from someone else. This person already setup the user and user name (user name is user1). I renamed the user to something friendlier and I was sure that was what I had been using to RDP into the laptop in the past, but perhaps I forgot. I used the name user1 to log in and it worked. Go figure. Hahaha.

I have Firefox 3.0.10 and Firefox is not accepting passwords that I get from pop up boxes on specific sites. I belong to 3 different sites that require password log in information through a pop up box request (not actually embedded in the site)

On one site I have to type my log in and password twice before my browser will accept it. On the other websites the log in information has worked for a few days and then my browser no longer accepts the information and continuously prompts me with the log in/password box each time I type the information in. I am able to navigate to the support pages of these websites and request my log in and password information so I know that the information I'm typing in is correct.

Any ideas? I have tried clearing my cache and my authenticated sessions. Thanks for your help.

I have some unknown corrupted system files and SFC says the SP3 update cd I got from Microsoft is the "wrong cd" and will not replace the corrupted files. Is there a way to get SFC to accept the cd?

Answer:SFC not accepting Microsoft SP3 update cd.

I assume the installed OS is also sp3? If so, and if the cd is an XP SP3 cd you can do a repair install. Boot to the XP CD and choose the SECOND repair option. Done properly, all apps and preferences will remain intact. You'll have to go to Windows Update and re-download / install all updates after the installation is complete. Here's a detailed walk-through: http://www.geekstogo.com/forum/topic/138-how-to-repair-windows-xp/A repair installation accomplishes the same thing as sfc /scannow and is clearly more comprehensive. But it will only work if you are currently running with service pack 3 installed.

I have tried with Windows Firewall on (with IP Protocol 47 [gre] and pptp connections enabled/allowed) and off.

I have set the Incoming connection up with DHCP enabled and also 'Ranged' IP's (also with and without DNS servers provided)

I have tried a set up with 'Allow callers to specify IP Addresses" and then setting up a client on another network with an IP in the range.

I have Deleted/recreated the Incoming connection with Explorer.exe being runas.. Administrator (I was grasping for straws so I tried this)

I have tried all of the above from a fresh install of Windows 7 Ultimate. I have also tried all of the above on another computer, on another network with Win7 Ultimate with the same results.

I have, in fact, checked my ports on win7 and 1723 is opened and the service is listening.

Netstat -ano shows TCP 1723 (but no UDP 1701. Could that be the issue?)

I have unchecked using ipv6 settings.

Router logs shows incoming connections being passed but Event Viewer in Windows show nothing with a standard window VPN connection. Rasdial from the client machine ... Read more

Answer:VPN not accepting incoming connections.

IP address is, of course, Static on the Host machine. Internet connection is fine.

I am attempting to modify two keys in
HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer

NoViewOnDriveNoDrives
According to
TechNet - Reg Value I should be able to set the REG_DWord value to "1" which corresponds to 0x03FFFFF
REG ADD HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer /v NoViewOnDrive /t REG_DWORD /d 1 /f
REG ADD HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer /v NoDrives /t REG_DWORD /d 1 /f
The problem is, the regedits run successfully but the values simply show up as 0x00000001 and the drive still shows after restart.

Im having a very frustrating issue with Windows Vista. For the past couple of days I have been having issues with logging onto my computer. It would let me logon after many attempts. Today was the worst its been. I have been trying all day to log on and finally just 5 minutes ago and I got to log on.

I currently just tried to remove my password and it wont even let me. It is still telling me that the password that I am entering in is incorrect.

If someone could please help me with resolving this issue it will be truly appreciated. I contacted tech support for my laptop manufacturer (HP) but the only option that I had was to re-install Windows Vista (which would result in me losing files). But like I said I just got to log on and dont plan on logging off until I can get some help. PLZ HELP!!

Answer:Vista Not Accepting My Password-HELP PLZ!

Hello, My HP Pavilion laptop has been working fairly well up until recently. The basic issue this; the laptop won't charge. I've managed to run HP Support Assistant multiple times and reports the battery itself is fine; I believe the issue is with the charger, or the charging port. Here is what currently happens when I plug the charger into the machines; - If battery is connected to PC (With power in battery); LED light turns on, orange to indicate charging (Doesn't actually charge) when closed, and White when PC is open and turned on.- If no battery is connected to PC, no LED light turns on and nothing happens. The charger can be swivelled out of the port by spinning it and gently tugging but I assume this is normal as the pulling motion and spinning combined would be akin to just pulling it out. What can I do to rectify this issue? The metal end of the charging cable is slightly bent, is it meant to be fully straight or look like this? Please help!

I have a very knowledgable friend who is having a problem with his desktop. It will not accept a cd drive, no matter what he does. So far, none of these fixes have worked:
Checked all cables and connections
tried all jumper settings,
pulled hdd and tried it
tried multiple drives, an old CD, a DVD, a CD-RW
cleared CMOS

He has an asus something (A7-8NX, he thinks). It was working perfectly for years before. Any ideas?

Answer:Comp not accepting Optical drive

Try the CD Drive on a seperate IDE host, and make sure the 12 volt rail is within 5%

I swear I'm going to dump these machines in the frickin' dumpster! Fresh install. Found I couldn't print my maps, very useful to me. Also found I didn't have my printer installed (Brother MFC-4620DW). I installed it. It still won't print my frickin' maps! Still I can't get anything done on these contraptions.

I'm still sick, still crippled, still dying.

And it's bedtime again!

Gotta get out of Dallas, by cracky!

Answer:Brother printer not accepting data

I messed up today.

I renamed a file protected with a password (rick clicked and renamed), and since doing so it will no longer accept my password.

I've done an incredible amount of work to this file and have no back up version. I can't bear the thought of having to begin again so I'm hoping there is an simple way to salvage this file?

Any assistance would be greatly greatly appreciated.

Two days ago I noticed my x120e battery icon no longer reflected the plugged-in status when I connected the AC adapter. Now my battery is drained and even if I remove the battery and only use the AC adapter, I cannot power the laptop. Wow, thanks a lot, Lenovo. I have owned this laptop for only a few months, purchased brand new from your website, and now it is dead. What a POS. Your brand was supposed to be associated with high-quality PCs and so I decided to give you a try. Never again and I will be sure to dis your poor quality products to anyone I can. Not to mention I had to wait on hold for 30 minutes to get in touch with your service department who told me they would send me a replacement AC adapter but then didn't and I had to call back to get another one sent. Your technical support people are as incompetent as your engineers. I treat all my electronics well, so don't try to pin the blame on me, either. I have used the laptop very lightly and now it's dead.

Answer:x120e No Longer Accepting Power

For some reason that sounds more like the DC jack itself has gone bad.  Mine has had that happen for short periods of time, with me doing a little wiggling of the DC cord to maybe align things better (and I'm using two different adaptors too!). Now, obviously the support could be much better, but things do break down at random points in time, and predicting that is always a gamble.  If the new adaptor itself doesn't work, then you'll probably have to send your laptop in itself (process of elimination) for them to see about replacing the motherboard (I think the DC jack is soldered to the motherboard). Either way, best of luck!

hi all,

This is probably a stupid question but here goes.....

If someone initiates a file transfer with me over AIM and hit "Block", is there any way that the file they attempted to send can enter my system?

Somebody did this to me last night and logged on again using a different screenname telling me that he now had access to the records on my computer and that the file he sent will not show up in any anti-virus scan.

Id love to hear an answer to this as, although i doubt he is correct, im a little nervous at the same time due to my lack of knowledge on these things.

Answer:Noob question re: AIM & accepting files

Hi and Welcome to Majorgeeks!

No question is stupid so never worry about posting what you may think is an easy question for many, if you dont know the answer then you dont know it, so much better to ask and here at Majorgeeks we will not ridicule you for such questions, in fact we like them and are always willing to help those not fully PC aware to learn more. If you have hit block and stopped the transfer then its not going to save or run on your PC, you would for them to add malware to your PC have had to accept the download and run/open it.

My one question to them if they did say they had access to my personal files is to prove it and tell me whats in a specific location/folder.

But to fully put your mind at rest and also find out if you are indeed malware free we woudl have to ask you to run the below and attach the logs requested, this will show to our malware experts if indeed you are infected and with what.

Please follow the instructions in the below link and attach the requested logs when you finish these instructions.

I have an ABIT VL6 motherboard. The manufacturer website shows this motherboard as being able to handle 1.5GB pc 133 RAM (3 slots). I currently have a 128MB pc100 RAM chip. I purchased (2) 256MB pc133 RAM chips. The motherboard won't recognize either/both. when I have only the pc133 speed RAM chips in and boot the system, the computer gives me repeated beeps and won't boot up. It does the same thing when I have either/both combined with the pc100 RAM chip.

What do I need to do so the computer accepts either pc133 RAM or both pc100 and pc133.

hello!

my girlfriend's system is an old, ap-style, system with i believe a 120mhz processor and 16mb ram in two 8mb simms. the intel 82440vx board (which i cannot find any documentation to online) has one dimm connector. the schematic in the manual shows it as dimm 0.

when i plug a 64mb pc100 (kingsington value ram) into the connector and boot, the system does not recognize the newly added ram. if i remove the two simms, the system doesn't boot. i took the ram and plugged it into one of my systems and it worked fine. open for suggestions.

Hi, hoping to get some help.

My friend sent me an invite to her outlook calendar. The calendar is owned by her but when she sends an invite to my @live.com email. I recieve an email with a few upcoming events and an 'accept' or 'decline' invite. When I click accept it loads but it takes me to my own calendar, with no sign of my friends calendar.

There is a link in the email which it says I can copy and paste into my browser if I'm having trouble with the accept button, but I get the exact same results. I've tried accepting on my phone rather than on my mac, and we've tried sending new invites. But it all gives the same results.

Not sure how much more info I can give. Hoping for something silly that I've missed here.
