Yahoo email garbles attachments

Question: Yahoo email garbles attachments

I have a weird issue. Using Yahoo webmail, When I receive an email message with an attachment, the filename gets mangled when I try to download the attachment.. For example, an attachment is called 11530.csv. When I click to download it, I get this "scanning is complete and no viruses were detected" Norton Virus scan status message that Yahoo does automatically. When I click to download the file, the filename becomes a bunch of characters like this: "=_utf-8_B_MS0xMTMxMDgxXzAxMDM4ODU5XzAyXzI3XzEyLmNzdg==_="

Now, here is where it gets weirder - I can use Windows 7, (32 or 64 bit) or Windows XP and it makes no difference. I can use IE8 or IE9 and it makes no difference. I can log into my Yahoo mail on all of my computers and it makes no difference.

However, if I check my Yahoo mail with Google Chrome, the download works fine and the attachment filename is not mangled. It works as it should. Also, if I forward the message to a different email account and then forward it back to my Yahoo account, then it works as it should in IE8 and IE9.

I've tried clearing the cache and resetting IE settings. I've tried IE8 and IE9 and I've verified the problem on the same email account using 5 different computers, including a friends computer that has never been to Yahoo mail before.

I am baffled. Any idea what is going on here?

Preferred Solution: Yahoo email garbles attachments

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I use the Norton Antivirus and Google Chrome as my server. In the Yahoo email, I click on attachment and nothing happens. Then, I go to another server like Mozilla Firefox and go to the same Yahoo and I can attach files; however, then, my Norton starts to picking up 4-5 non-threat viruses to incubate. There are some times that the Yahoo will allow attachments when I click on "attachments" but not always. Thanks for your response.

Answer:Yahoo email will not allow attachments.

Some extensions in Google Chrome can interfere with the ability to attach files in Yahoo Mail, particularly extensions like AdBlock or similar.Either disable AdBlock or add to AdBlock's "whitelist" in it's options.

1. I just tried to follow your instruction to Copy and Paste TSG SysInfo but it didn't work. I've never done a Copy and Paste so once I clicked on Copy I do not know how to Paste to this post. I am using MS Windows XP Service Pack 3 Home Edition on a Dell 2400.
2.Anyway, my problem is with the graphics that come with my Daily Squeek from house-mouse designs. Previously the mouse graphics came fully developed, as though in the test. Now they are coming with a square that I must right click and choose Show Picture but the picture does not Show. Dell thought it might be in the Yahoo instruction??
3. Also, my Dell 720 printer will not Print from the color cartridge. The black cartridge works fine when I check 'Print colors in Black' under the Preferences box. When I put a Color Cartridge in the Black cartridge carriage it will Print the 3 colors in sequential passes. This produces a somewhat blurry text but it does Print so I can use the ink in the Color cartridge. I thought there might be an instruction or Choice that needs 'reminding' but I don't know how to find it! I suppose the Color Carriage could be 'broken' . Amazon has 720s for $30-$60 that might be worth testing mine with?? Any ideas? Thanks. N

This just started a couple weeks ago. I have a Yahoo email account that I use primarily as a dump account. My daughter had some docx and pdf files sent to this account from her work. She could open and view them but she could not download them to my computer. The download attempts then gives the message "Open House5.docx couldn't be downloaded". I also have an xp system and another win7 system that will download the above file from the yahoo account with no issues. I can forwarded the email to my gmail account and had no problem downloading the above file on the same computer that will not download the yahoo file. Have been researching this for a week now and trying everything I could find but nothing solves the issue.

Hey Gang,

How Do I Delete Attachments from Yahoo Email? My mailbox quota is getting quite large and if I could delete just the jpg's and attachments I could save quite a bit of space.

Is there a way to do it?

Hi everyone. I'm having a problem getting my computer to download email attachments, like pictures, in my yahoo email. It was working fine the other day and now when I click on the attachment a box pops up that says "getting file information". I have a dsl connection and it is usually very fast to open these things, but now it just sits on this box and never opens the attachment. Could something have gotten deleted from my system with my knowing it? Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.

Hi there, here's my first post so I'll try and get it right the first time!

I'm using Windows XP with OE6. I've been having this trouble for a while and can't seem to find a way to fix it. When receiving emails with attachments from all friends with accounts, they arrive as strictly text in the display pane. It basically looks the way you would view it in "message source" under properties.

In the inbox list the sender/subject lines are blank as well.

The settings in OE6 are set up to accept attachments and I can receive attachments from other email addresses without problem. (i.e. private/business/hotmail/gmail)

Not sure if this is a red herring or not, but I can read the emails and attachments no problem when I am viewing them in webmail before I download to my home computer.

If anyone can shed some light on this matter, I would greatly appreciate it!

Hi... Normally i don't have any problems with Yahoo Email... but today i'm trying to email an assignment to my teacher and it WILL NOT let me upload a MS Word Document... the filename is AssignmentFour.doc... I was able to load a small image (which is part of the assignment) but when i try to upload a this word document it just takes forever to load and eventually doesn't get anywhere... I've tried renaming the word document, no luck...

Could someone else that uses Yahoo Email try uploading a MS Word file attachment and tell me if it works for them or not?

Answer:word document on flash drive garbles in email

There are a lot of steps in between. Does the file open on the flash drive? What about when copied to the computer? What version of Word was it created with? Using standard fonts? Any special coding? Does the receiver have the same version of Word installed? Is the problem with just one recipient?

I can open an email and open an attachment on that email.

I can look on my harddrive and find the same email text file easily enough on my harddrive, and open that text file using notepad.

But I cannot find where the attachment(s) is stored on the harddrive? I've looked everywhere.

The reason is that I want to write a program that will archive windows live emails - and their attachments.

Answer:Cannot delete Yahoo attachments

Hi Jim W - there certainly seems no obvious way of deleting them, but playing around I discovered how to get rid of mine. Click on My Attachments - highlight (tick box) of each attachment and click Move and then To Inbox. They will then return to the Inbox and you can delete them in the usual way. Worked for me - hope it does for you.

For the past several weeks now, when I check my Yahoo email account using IE 8 version (actions performed: clicking on the Inbox, moving from email to email, opening an email) I am redirected to this website:

This does not happen all the time. It seems to be sporadic. I can have periods of time when this does not happen (I can open several messages or navigate from one message to another and not have a problem) then all of a sudden I will be redirected to the site listed above. If I click the back button I can get back to my email and move around once again. The redirect may or may not occur again or from that point forward. From what I have read online, there doesn't seem to be a fix for this issue.

I have tried running several scans with Malwarebytes (in safe mode), Ad-Aware, AVG, Spybot, Hitman Pro 3.5 and ComboFix. But, none of these scans have returned any results that have resolved this issue. I have also removed all versions of Java and updated to the latest version (Java 6 update 23). I've also removed all versions of Adobe and installed Adobe Reader X version 10.0.0 as I have read that keeping old versions may pose a security risk. Just trying to provide as much information on what I've done up to this point.

I belong to one Yahoo Group and have my email for that group set up for "individual emails" for all group messages. I receive all messages daily from all other group members except one member. Can't figure out why I don't get his messages (makes no difference if it is text only messages or messages with pics attached). The only way I know this particular member has posted to the group is when other members have their group email settings set up to automatically affix all/part of posts at the bottom of their replies to same. As you see by my signature, I use Firefox 1.5.09 as my default browser. My other realtime running programs also listed there, but I don't think they could be a factor. Not sure whether Firefox is a factor with the blocking. I have asked this member to post a test message today and I am accessing the net exclusively via IE6 today to see if his test message comes through or not. Will report back my findings on that score. BTW, I do not use an email client. I read all my mail directly off the Yahoo Mail website. Only thought I've had, is once or twice my mail has "bounced" because my inbox was full. But my inbox rarely gets full. And this problem seems to be more persistent than just a few occasions. Anyone have any additional thoughts on what could be causing my dilemma?

Answer:Yahoo Web-based Email/yahoo Groups Problem

Don't know if it is the problem, but just realized I normally keep my mail options set to "automatically delete" bulk mail messages. Maybe somehow this group member's messages are being "perceived" as spam and Yahoo's spam filter is blocking his posts. I've gone into my settings just now and told it to hold those messages a week for me so I can test possible factor. Will post back my findings.

I was having problems with browsing (posted this prior) and wasn't getting anywhere with attempting to adjust browser settings. I was getting blocked going regular places. So... after getting very aggravated, I accessed Symantec's online chat help w/ an analyst. During this time, the analyst remotely accessed my computer on two occassions, ultimately finding out that the problem was not with the Norton 360 but was with IE (v.7). We were having problems with connectivity. He said his system said I was disconnected yet he was still in my system. He started a notepad doc to chat with me, saying that we were locking up and I should Google the verbage I was receiving during the browsing blocks I was receiving. As I was typing a response saying I have done that, we were disconnected. Since I knew what I had originally found, I disconnected completely and left it for today since more than 2-3 hours have now passed. Today, I cannot access my email. I receive an HTTP 405 error. (Programming error). I noted that in the heading, the address started like this: hxxp:// After searching that on the web, I found that this is a BAD thing. I also noticed that the Phishing filter was off. Message said "Phishing filter cannot check this website because the Microsoft online service is temporarily unavailable&qu... Read more

Have you tried using an alternate browser like Firefox to see if you encounter the same problem? If you can use Firefox, then will narrow the problem down to an IE issue.Since you cannot run the Housecall or Panda scans, if you install Firefox you can then perform and online scan using Trend Micro Housecall Scan for Firefox. This also leads me to believe you have an ActiveX problem.

A couple days ago I received an email from Yahoo stating Yahoo is selling out to Verizon. Will I lose my Yahoo email? Will my email address and password have to be changed?Does Yahoo have a customer service phone number? I did a search for a number and several came up, but on the Yahoo site, it states if a phone number is found in a search, it is not a Yahoo number. Is there another way to contact Yahoo?

Answer:Yahoo sale to Verizon, will effect my Yahoo email, etc?

Most numbers for yahoo - suport at least - are routed to a location in India. Yahoo transferred tech support to third party services. Those services offer a free call but any solutions they offer - cost... And they invariably offer to remote in to your computer and seem to use freely available utilities to scan the system; these utilities frequently free to download and use. With the above in mind I'm not surprised that you can't contact yahoo directly to get answers...Yahoo srvice etc. has been going downhill for an age. I'm not convinced that Verizon will help it any; but can see Verizon charging for anything yahoo once offered for free?Theoretically your yahoo lohgon etc ought not to change; at least for a while... But as for long term???message edited by trvlr

I have dsl service and a Yahoo email account, and read my mail online. I receive a lot of jpegs, and lately they are terribly slow to open. Usually if I click on a thumbnail in email, a screen will pop up and ask if I want to open or save the file. I select open and then nothing seems to happen for 10-15 seconds, and finally the pic opens in Explorer. This used to take 3-4 seconds total.

I reformatted the hard drive and reloaded Windows a few weeks ago, I suspect something got fouled up. Normal web surfing and downloading seems fine, just opening mail attachments is messed up. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

It is impossible for me to send more than one document as an attachment with Yahoo mail. problem seems to have got worse in recent months. I have only used 4% of available space.Would it help if I upgraded on the mail options although it makes no mention of increase in attachment space.Or should I set up Outlook Express.I have tried my Vigin and hotmail accounts and they also do not have the ability to transmit more than one sheet at a timeThank you

Within Yahoo, there is 5 attachment options visible when sending emails. Hotmail you just select OK and Attach Another. Not used Virgin so I cannot comment on this one. I have both Hotmail and Yahoo accounts, both configured in Outlook with no problems whether it be from Outlook or Web Mail client in sending attachments.

Is there a way to download multiple attachments in Hotmail? After a recent birthday party my daughter sent me an email with about 50 photos and it would take a week to download one at a time.

With Yahoo mail there is a way to do it but it never seems to work. You get a message that there is a temporary problem that should be resolved i 10 minutes but so far it's never worked.

Answer:Hotmail/Yahoo Multiple Attachments

That's a lot of pictures, I'm not surprised you're having problems. You don't have to do them one at a time though either. If you zip them together in one file and use a service like You Send It you can send rather large files, no problem.

Hi all,

A friend of mine has a problem with Yahoo email attachments - on trying to either open them or download them to the desktop, Yahoo appears to run an automatic Norton AV scan after which an error message is displayed and the file is inaccessible.

The Norton AV scan appears to be integral to Yahoo mail as Norton is not installed on my friend's computer.

Sorry I can't remember exactly what the error message is, but I think it's something along the lines of "URL for this file is invalid."

My friend runs XP SP3 and this problem started about two weeks ago - no problems before that.

Any suggestions gratefully received - thank you.

Answer:Yahoo mail attachments won't open

Are they attachments or embedded pictures?

If they are embedded, are they all emails sent by one person?
If so, perhaps they are linking the attachments and doing it wrong.
Although you don't have the exact error message, it seems to
indicate that the pictures can't be found - and that indicates that
the person sending them is not doing something right.

Hi I am suddenly having problems downloading picture attachments from Yahoo groups since Wednesday, there is a message saying 'Attachments not stored'Do you know if this is due to a virus or are they playing on the safe side due to this latest virus Sobig and have stopped them being stored. All the attachments have disappeared from the Yahoo groups, it's not because I can't download them, they are just not there to download.

Answer:Downloading Yahoo attachments not working

In an effort to make space on their servers Yahoo have told us they're no longer keeping the files of attachments from other groups. So i think you have to now d/load (the non-attachment) from group. Also each group is now allocated limited bandwidth, so in busy times it's slowwwww and pics are pixellated.

Hi, on one of my older XP laptops I am not able to attach ANY attachments when composing an email message in my Yahoo Mail account.  I've had this account for close to 20 years and have never had this problem before.  These are really small attachments running 100 KB or less.
Even stranger: On the same computer with the same OS I have no problem in Gmail attaching the same files.  Also, when in the same Yahoo Mail account on a different computer I have no problem attaching small files.
Has anyone ever encountered this before, and is there a way to fix it? Really weird.
Thanks in advance for your insights.

Answer:Yahoo Mail: Cannot Attach ANY Attachments

Yahoo has had a number of problems in recent months.  Right now I can't move things from one email folder to another without strange things happening.
Good luck.

I cannot open doc or pdf attachments in my Windows 7 on a year old ASUS. Please help me. What can I do?

Answer:Unable to open attachments in

Hi carolynyvonne,

I want to advice, be careful when it comes to opening attachments. It's possible that the attachments can be viruses. May I ask, is/are the doc or pdf attachments you're trying to open on your computer from a legitimate source/person you know? Assuming yes, when you try to open the attachment, do you get an error message?

I have a 2 year old Toshiba laptop with Windows Vista. I am running Trend Micro AV. and internet exployer. Until about 6 months ago, everything was ok, but now, when I check my e-mail with yahoo, the e-mail opens ok, but anything with an attachment will not open. It gives me the "internet exployer can not display this web page" message. It is not yahoo, because it will open with other computers. I bought the pc at Staples, so I went there and asked them about this problem. They said that it might have my security level set too high, but I told him that it was set at medium so that should'nt be the problem. I've tried to play around with this problem, but with no luck. I went back to the guy at Staples and he said that I would probably have to restore the computer back to the factory default setting, which would wipe out all the stuff I have stored unless I wanted to copy everything to CD and reload. Hopefully this is a last resort ploy and I hope that "maybe" there is a simple solution, if there is such a thing.
This not being able to open attachments is a real pain because I have contracts, agreement, etc. e-mailed to me to be signed and sent back and I can't do that with this problem. I'm not very computer savvy, so any help that you could give me would be a lifesaver.

I have Windows xp sp3. Google Chrome. For the last couple of days... I have been unable to open attachments that were sent to me via email.
I never had the problems before. When I click to open... it says its scanning ... and then nothing happens.
Any ideas ???

Answer:Solved: Cant open attachments in att. yahoo mail.

I've always had this problemwith Yahoo mail. It can be a boon : scamsters who want me to open an attachment are foiled by the software.

Yahoo cannot fix it because they don't understand it. In Classic, attachments used to be sent to a Yahoo-created folder called 'my downloads'. But clicking on them still didn't open them.

Dump Yahoo mail. It gets worse with each 'upgrade'. AOL, for example, already has stopped opening it..
(BTW, why is every problem now addressed by a Google ad?)

I have determined that Sygate will prevent attaching files to Yahoo email. If I select the option, Allow All, in Sygate I can make the attachment. If I set Sygate back to Normal, then any attempt to attach a file hangs the PC for a long while until something times out and pops up the Windows alert that the web site cannot be accessed.

The Sygate logs indicate that it is blocking some incoming and outgoing IP addresses but adding these to the Sygate list doesn't have any affect. I suspect that ads on the Yahoo web site are the cause of this problem but I don't know how to prove or disprove it.

Answer:Sygate blocks Yahoo mail attachments

Sygate is no longer supported or in dev. Switch to another like Comodo Firewall which is one of the top.

You can try resetting Sygate to default if there's such option. Perhaps, your settings or rules are too strong.

I am assuming this is a computer issue per Att/Yahoo...

I am running Windows XP Home edition, using IE, and my ISP is ATT/YAHOO

When I am using yahoo mail, and have an attachment (picture) to view in an email, clicking on view next to the file name will not let me view the picture. My son has tried this on his computer, same file and all, and it works for him.

The only way for me to view the picture full size is to download and save to my computer. I am thinking this is a setting on my computer that will not allow jpeg files to be viewed.

My thinking is you should be able to view the file in Windows and Picture viewer program and not be required to save to hard drive.

Anyone else have this problem or know how to resolve it? Appreciate any help I can get.

Answer:Viewing Jpeg Attachments In Yahoo Mail

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I *think* clicking view actually downloads the full picture like if you just downloaded it.

You would have to save it to your HDD to view in the windows viewer.

Hi allLately in Yahoo, when i try to download an attachment i.e. a zip file or something the file seems to have disappeared and when i go through the process of opening an email, then selecting download attachment or doubleclicking on the actual zip file all it does is bring up the prompt of open at file location or save to disk. I choose the save to disk option. Then it says the file ame = "SHow letter" and "save as type = html document. Where have my files gone? Does anyone know what is going on?Because the file i need is very important and i hope lycos hasn't let me down.:-)

Have tried this with both the latest versions of IE and Firefox to no avail.

Whenever I receive a word doc to my Yahoo mail, I try to forward it on to someone. They receive it as a .dat file that cannot be opened. I have even forwarded it to other email addresses I use and notice the same behavior. Is this a Yahoo specific error or perhaps something resident on my PC causing this?

Answer:Forwarding/Sending .DOC attachments with Yahoo Mail

Make sure I have all the pertinent details:

1) You receive an attached .DOC file at Yahoo! email website? Or do you use an email client like Outlook Express?

2) You are able to view the .DOC file without a problem?

3) You forward the .DOC email as an attachment from the Yahoo! email website? Or do you use an email client?

4) Whether you forward to yourself or to others, the .DOC has changed into a .DAT attachment that cannot be opened by Word?

What does Yahoo! help have to say?

My .DOC attachments sent from the Yahoo! website arrive as .DOC.

Here is a program that might work to open the .DAT file:

Not sure how to describe this properly, so please be patient with me. I'm not as good with all the computer lingo and whatnot.Ok, the problem. For some reason my computer is having CONSTANT trouble every single day. I can be doing whatever, minding my own business, when the computer locks up, any and all programs quit responding. Sometimes, everything is fine and only takes a few minutes to get going again, which is still pretty irritating. Most of the time though, everything locks up and then finally, the mouse even locks and then the screen goes all frazzled and is a total mess, kinda like nasty reception on a tv. The computer ceases to work and has to be forced to shut down. I can get it back up and running, though sometimes warning me that it can't find the operating system, though that's pretty rare. This has been annoying me for months. I've thought it was due to viruses, but even with this computer clean, it still does this. I've thought it was due to overloaded hard drive, but it's nowhere near full. It seems to do this at least twice every single day and I've had bad luck with trying new computers these days. Can ANYONE offer ANY assistance? Parents swear it's virus, but I almost think that's just a quick write-off. Best friend hasn't a clue. If I need to give anything more, I will. I have been running anti-virus stuff on and off and it's STILL clean.

Answer:Computer locks up and the screen garbles?

Was having same problem so I uninstalled IE9 and reverted back to 8, now it works fine although I am sure there are some security issues that I haven't looked for yet. If interested, google remove IE9 and it will take you step by step through uninstall.

Boot into safe mode and go to add remove programmes.

Hi Geniuses:
I wanted to throw this out to you to see if there was a solution to my "inbox zero woes"

Yahoo Email address (yes I know)
iPhone with Outlook App
Mac Computer with Mail APP
Extra Gmail account with a "send gmail from account"

What I found was that while on the road (most of my email use) the Outlook App for iPhone was fastest at fetching mail, and I LOVE the interface (ability to snooze emails, archive etc).

Problem is, my home mac with MAIL doesn't play nice when I archive Emails on my app.
Secondly, I also like to use gmail as a web client for searching files, using todo etc.

My question: can all of these play nice in the same sandbox? Can I archive on one device, and have it translated amongst the others? If not, what are my solutions (switching over to outlook on Mac? Just using a GMAIL address from now on). Would love some light / insight on this.

Many, Many thanks!

My first post so please bear with me.
(Note: this is also posted on the Games forum as I was unsure where to put it).

::The Problem::

My nVidia GeForce (64 mb) 420 MX w/TVout
(my PC is a Dell Dimension 8200, about 3 yrs old)

Warcraft 3, Rise of Nations, and any other game along those lines that I try has serious issues with my graphics card. It flickers and randomly changes plots of land to black, ect.
For instance, in Warcraft 3, the peons have black squares flickering around them, and the trees will randomly look like they are Undead trees for a few flickers.
Also, a big fact thats important is that when the computers been on for 5 minutes, this problem doesn't occur. However, when it's been on for 3 hours, it happens instantly even if you restart it.
::What I've Done::

I updated the driver for the card, my DirectX to 9.0b, and troubleshooted it completely in Windows. I reinstalled the drivers, updated bios of my PC and called the Dell tech support line. The Dell guy and I worked for a while, adjusting settings and the hardware acceleration, to no avail. He told me that it was probably not a hardware problem, just a problem with a setting somewhere, but he had no idea what I have set wrong.

In October, the moniter that came with the computer caught on fire (no joke). So I went to Best Buy and got a Sony Flatscreen LCD moniter, which is very sweet (its model is SDM-HS73, and it tends to get hot when I don't have a fan running on it).

Possibly Helpful Notes:
- Preceding the BSoD, any sound that was playing will loop for about half a second.
- Ran an AVG virus scan, and found nothing wrong.
- It tends to happen only upon bootup, or shortly thereafter, but it is very unpredictable. Generally, if the computer boots smoothly, it can run for hours without BSoD.
- I would describe the garbled display as every pixel shifted a random amount to the right/left, with a few pixels scattered everywhere as well.
Don't know if this will help. Sorry if I missed something!

My email app for Nokia Lumia 630 with Windows Phone 8.1 shows only 1 email in the inbox folder, that is the latest email. I'm using Yahoo! mail. It used to work correctly, showing all emails, but it works no longer that way. I've tried to delve into settings, but I did not any setting that would explain the behavior. Can anyone help with this problem?
Thanks in advance,

Answer:Why is my email app only showing 1 email (latest) in inbox (Yahoo! mail)?

Did you receive 1 mail in the last 7 days ? If you go into settings, click on sync settings. In there the default option from Download e-mail from is 7 days. So any mail that has exceeded 7 days will not appear. Check what is your setting.

I thought this might be malware but I had a scan done on this site (;#entry1015729 ) and logs look clean. Running XP, Spybot Search and Destroy, and AvAst Antivirus... with Opera 9.62 and IE7 anytime I go to Yahoo mail and try to sign out, I can't. It brings me to, then if I click on their "mail icon" I am brought right back to my mailbox. Also, when I try to attach a file, when I click "attach" I am directed to and can never attach. Finally, when I click on "insert address" while composing mail, I am brought to the signin/password page. None of this happens with Gmail, none of this happens with these accounts on other computers. I think it is cookies/firewall? related but I am no expert. Can anyone help? Thanks!Edit: Moved topic from XP to the more appropriate forum. ~ Animal

I use about 5 different internet based email accounts to manage my affairs( Yahoo email mostly, but also Hotmail and Gmail, etc,....NO Onboard email used at all) . Some are for friends email, some for family, others for various business interests, online purchase, etc. If I get certain emails, I NEED to know about it ASAP as I'm working/browsing on my computer.

I have used a program called "eprompter" before but found it unreliable. Sometimes it would not notify me at all that a new email had just arrived that I'd been waiting for. That is very aggrevating when they are important and need to be opened and replied to promptly. That NOT being notified at all when new a email arrives in my Inbox Can Not Happen. Most of them are TOO Important for it to just not tell me about!

And also, if I independantly just go to my Yahoo Inbox, I notice it just marks emails I have not already read. That's Spooky! I Just DON'T Trust ePrompter!!!

There Must be a good one that doesn't try to fake out whether you've seen emails or not !
Does anyone know of a free, but really good and dependable Email Notifier program to monitor all my internet based accounts at once, please?

Answer:Best free email notifier for Yahoo and Hotmail email ?

Answer:email attachments

Hello George & welcome to the CH forums. You ask what you can do.  The first thing is to read this post by CH Admin then give us some info about your pc and especially advise which e-mail program you are using.  The more info you give the better the chance of a good diagnosis of your problem.Thanks.

Hope I'm posting this thread in the correct section. I have a laptop with XP Pro installed using IE 6.0. My problem is receiving email attachments, not sending them. I have never encountered this problem when using Win98SE or Windows 2000. Nearly every attachment I receive, the file type is listed as unknown. At first I though it was Outlook Express. What I did to test this was go to mail2web and retrieve the attachment without going through Outlook Express. Same problem - file type unknown. At this point I could safely eliminate OE as being the problem. After a little more digging I came across a website that said the problem could be a MIME error associated with XP Pro. At his point I am totally lost.
Any help you can provide will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Question: email attachments

On my Microsoft Outlook I am not able to attach a file to send. I can send and receive small files, but am not able to send or recieve mail with attachments.

I tried to go into add and delete to do a check on IE 5.0, but it would not correct errors. I ended up losing IE 5.0, or it doesn't show up on the add/remove anymore.

I'm not sure what to do now. Where do I receive a copy of IE 5.0 and how do I fix my email?

Hoping for any help I can get.

Question: email attachments

I have a friend that called saying she received an email from one of her relatives with a .jpg attached that was supposed to be 1 picture of her niece. Not only was this picture in the attachment but there were others that were of porn pictures. When she called me I told her to call the relative and see if there was a problem (virus) on their end. They checked and said no. I was convinced this came from the sender however she received another email from someone that she knows later that day with a picture from their vacation and the same porn pictures showed up again as if it was part of the attachment from the sender. I have had this person run spybot, adware and AVG to try to get this obvious virus erased but it keeps happening. Can anyone give me an idea what is causing this?

Thanks in advance

Answer:email attachments

Welcome to Major Geeks!

Are you saying that multiple other attachments are appearing in the emails that are arriving? What email program?

This is new problem that we have not seen. I'm not sure if anything will detect the problem or not. The best bet is to run thru all of the below and attach ALL of the requested logs.

Please follow the instructions in the below link and attach the requested logs when you finish these instructions.

READ & RUN ME FIRST. Malware Removal Guide

If something does not run, write down the info to explain to us later but keep on going.

Do not assume that because one step does not work that they all will not.

If you run into problems trying to run theREAD & RUN ME or any of the scans in normal boot mode. You can run steps in safe boot mode but make sure you tell us what you did later when you post logs. See the below if you do not know how to boot in safe mode:

Starting your computer in Safe mode

If you have problems downloading on the problem PC, download the tools on another PC and burn to a CD. Then copy them to the problem PC. You will have to skip getting updates if (and only if) your internet connection does not work. Yes you could use a flash drive too but flash drives are writeable and infections can spread to them.

my email attchments no longer open and i dont know how or what to do change this. They used to open ok and have stopped for no apparent reason,I am running windows XP.

Answer:email attachments

or only to some. I don't know about XP, but the first thing I would check would be your security settings. Especially EXE files may be blocked from being opened to prevent risk of virus infection.

Question: Email Attachments

I have a problem with email attachments. I use Outlook for sending &
receiving mail. In the message box I click on "Insert file", find the file
on my hard drive, the icon then appears in my message & I send. However,
the attachment is not received by the message recipient!
I have contacted my service provider who claim the problem is not
with them & they have been unable to solve the problem.
Can you help?

Answer:Email Attachments

What Version of OUTLOOK are you using?

Anyway, I think it's your recipients problem.

Like everyone else, I upgraded to Win 10.

When I open email attachments using Outlook 2013 or the Outlook App, I cannot open them even if there are .docx files.

Specifically, when I click once on the attachment I get " this file cannot be previewed because there is no previewer installed for it"

When I double click on the attachment I get routed to the Word 2013 client on my desktop that says "Word experienced and error in opening this file..."

Very odd, used to work before WIn 10 now it doesn't.

Any thoughts?

Thank you in advance

PS the only way I am able to work around this is to save the file and then open it as a document in Word 2013.

Question: Email Attachments

I am stumped. Here is the scenario. An e-mail with an .xls attachement is sent to a group of people. All members of the group get the e-mail. However there are some members who don't get the attachement. if the e-mail is resent they get it. These users (those who don't get it) have office 2003 viewers, with outlook express as their e-mail applications. There are some users who have outlook express, but do get the e-mail and attachement.

Any help is highly appreciated.

Thanks in advance

Answer:Email Attachments

Sometimes these can happen due to several reasons. We can't exactly point out one reason. These can happen due to network blocks, traffics, user mistakes, application issues etc. If the resending worked, then nothing to worry.

Question: email attachments

I recently upgrade my outlook express from 5.0 to 6.0. Now everytime I get attachments they are ghosted and I can't open them. When I open up the mail that they come in it says "OE removed access to the following unsafe attachments in your mail" The first time this happened I thought it was actually just an unsafe attachment but I have received many since and some from trusted sites and people. Could some one tell me how to fix this.

Answer:email attachments

it's probably the security option has been changed.......

1. Open OE
2. Click Tools, point to Options, and then click the Security tab.
3. Uncheck "Do not allow attachments to be saved or opened that could potentially be a virus."
4. Click OK

I am unable to add attachments of greater than approx 75k to either yahoo or outlook emails. It either times out or comes back as "empty file" or something like that. I have been having problems in general with slow internet access on my browsers (another thread) but this one is more critical (from a work perspective).

Have not placed anything new on the PC that I am aware of. I have run CWShredder, Adaware, Spybot, and Macafee. still no help. Defragged drive - no help. Cleared cookies and temp files - no help.

See anything else I can fix, or have any other ideas? I think I've done all of the obvious ones...
