flash videos load extremely slow

Question: flash videos load extremely slow

First I'd like to say that I've read help on some problems in these forums, and am always shocked at the actual help that you guys give out (you know, most forums dont actually help anyone). So, now I come here with my own problem, that I have yet to find.

My flash videos are loading extremely slow. I have a 180kb/s connection (not sure what the actual feed SHOULD be, this is what I have noticed the max is), which is extremely slow by todays standards, but a few months ago the exact same videos loaded perfectly fine for me to view non-stop (for instance, any youtube video set at 360p). The videos seem to load for a couple seconds then pause, then buffer, then repeat the steps again. It is getting extremely annoying to have to watch bits and pieces of videos instead of one continuous film.

I've found the TCP optimizer on here dealing with another issue. I have also found a batch file for winsock fix. Both seem to help the issue for a few hours, then the problem begins to crop up again. I have tried running firefox with only the essential add-ons enabled (java, etc). I also am an avid user of CCleaner, and use that at least weekly to keep my laptop 'cobweb' free. I even have disabled all anti-virus and firewalls in hopes that, that was the problem.

The problem has persisted in Google Chrome, Internet Explorer, and Firefox, so I'm starting to believe that its not just a browser issue. I also run uTorrent, and that mysteriously gets an incredibly stable connection. I'm not running any proxies. My laptop is hooked up wirelessly to my modem, the problem has persisted no matter if the main computer is on or off, or regardless of other wireless signals in the area (I use inssider to view the signals, and was switching the channels to the least used/interrupted channel, but I stopped once I realized it wasnt helping. I am also using NetLimiter 3, to monitor all outgoing/incoming traffic, and there are a total of 4 programs that use the internet that I run regularly: Rainmeter (limited to 500bps, mainly for email notification and weather updates), SVChost (unlimited, but stays extremely slow), Firefox (spikes EXTREMELY BAD, goes up to top speed, then cuts off and slowly crawls back up) and uTorrent (gets stable max)

I'm using Firefox 5.0.1, on Windows 7. All of my drivers are up to date as far as i know (a driver update utility would be extremely helpful )

I'm sorry about all of the information, but I've seen posts similar to my problem, but not quite the same, and none of their fixes have worked (like TCPoptimizer).

Thanks for the help in advance,

Evan

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: flash videos load extremely slow

Hello Evan, I'm sorry to hear that you are having problems.
The first order of business is to immediately turn your anti-virus and firewall back ON. These shouldn't be causing any problems, and it is highly unsafe to have them turned off. You should actually run your antivirus program a.s.a.p. to make sure there isn't any malware slowing your computer down. Run windows update and install all available updates, and restart to complete them. It may seem too simple, but you'd be suprised how often a lapse in these updates can cause problems with all kinds of things. Also, have you checked to see if you have the most up-to date flash player? Try uninstalling and re-installing it.

I run both IE 8 and Firefox on my Dell Dimension system. I'm having problems now with both browsers taking forever to load. This may be a virus or network problem. IE 8 just loaded now after 15 minutes (exactly - I timed it).

Details:
- Once it's loaded once, both browsers load in normal amounts of time.
- I haven't downloaded any new add-ons lately unless one browser or the other installed one in the background.
- The problem just started today after a reboot.
- I've also noticed that my network icon in the taskbar doesn't show up anymore when I first boot but by the time IE opens, it has showed up.
- Using ipconfig, I did determine that I am on the network and connected immediately after boot up (router also shows me connected immediately).
- I've tried running IE from the command line with iexplore.exe -extoff. It didn't make any difference. I don't know if this works with IE 8 though.
- When I click to open either web browser, the process shows up right away in Task Manager and remains.
- I have all the latest updates to both browsers that I know of.
- I've run a complete system scan with McAfee (fully updated as of today.)

Now I've run out of ideas on what to try. I appreciate any help!

Thanks!
Alec

I'm having a very peculiar problem. The Flash videos on this stock website I belong to won't load. They start to load but never get past 1 or 2% - They always used to load and play no problem untill a few weeks ago. I have 2 pc's and am having the same problem on both machines - I have the latest Adobe Flash player, IE 8; cleared temp files, cookies, etc; contacted the website in question, called my ISP (yuch!Verizon); works fine at work and I'm stumped. I got a bunch of spyware & malware removers, too.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated (be nice!)

Thanks in advance,

Zero G

Earlier today, my PC went from being perfectly fine to being extremely slow. I had a hunch that it may have been a virus or some serious malware so I tried to open up Malware and Ad-aware but everything was 'not responding.'

I ended up powering off via holding button. When I tried to load up again, the PC loaded to the blue welcome screen, but from there, it just hanged. i could open task manager but I was unable to open file > new task or anything.

I was able to go into safemode and load up Malware and Ad-aware. I searched on the internet from my laptop about what could be causing this. I found that a virus named Nimda could be a culprit. I found a fix for it so I cancelled my scans and rebooted. This time, I let it sit there. Everything had loaded properly...35min later! From here, everything was very slow.

I tried to open certain things like start menu or my computer, and it ended up taking 2-3min for each action.

Also, task manager (even opening task manager took 4min alone) showed very low CPU usage (about 1-2%) and about 20% physical memory usage.

My computer specs:
Win7 x64
Intel Core2 E7200
4 gigs of RAM
ATI HD4870

So here I am, back in safemode, attempting to run the scans (using Malware bytes + ad-aware + spybot) on 2 of my harddrives.

If this does not work, does anyone have any advice or insight?

Thanks, I appreciate it!

I forgot to add that I actually left my computer to load (not safemode) and it ended up loading background, taskbar, icons, desktop icons...it took about 35min.

good day..

I have had this laptop for 2 years..until about a month ago, all worked well and perfectly.
Microsoft "sent" various upgrades and that's when things started to go wrong.

My main difficulty is:
anything to do with videos, for example news on various sites, both local and overseas, as well as Youtube, go for a few seconds, then freeze, and the "clock spinning" (as in buffering) appears, does it course, then returns, and so on..

I have tried downloading "Flash" from Adobe, even the latest "11".
Nothing seems to work..
I also tried resetting to original factory state from Toshiba and no advancements.

I tried system restore-no advancement.
I removed "Google Chrome" and downloaded it again, -no go.
I also tried uninstalling Microsoft upgrades, also did not achieve anything
clearing caches? also no go.

Can someone please offer assistance to "right" the situation as it is annoying to get to a video, and I get the buffering each and every time

Answer:Flash videos freezes and don't load

Hi

You said you are using Chrome?
Did you notice the same issue using other browsers like Firefox or IE?

When I try to view online flash videos, the playback is always slow to buffer and often choppy. YouTube usually buffers well, but gives choppy playback. Other sites where you can watch videos (nbc, cbs, comedy central) will only ever play around 2 minutes of a video before having to buffer again, no matter how long I wait before. I know it's not the connection because my friend's computer plays videos flawlessly from the same connection, and it's not because of the browser (IE does work better than firefox, but still not well). I have Flash 10 installed. Any ideas on what could be causing the trouble or am I just out of luck? Thanks for any responses.

My laptop has the following specs, and it's about a year old, running Windows 7 Ultimate, 64 bit.

4 GB RAM
2.4 GHZ Core 2 Duo P8600

My desktop is 5 and a half years old, running Windows 7 Professional, 32 bit.

2.5GB RAM (PC3200)
3.4GHZ Pentium IV

Yet, when it comes to loading Windows, my desktop is blowing it out of the water.

My laptop takes 2 and a half minutes to get to the desktop (and a a large majority of that time is spent before I even log in!), compared to only about a minute for my desktop. Here is some additional information.

1) Malwarebytes and Norton Security Suite come up perfectly clean. Highly doubt it's spyware-related.
2) I updated all of the drivers on the laptop.
3) When it comes to loading all of the stuff on the desktop, the desktop has more tasks to load on the system tray than the laptop does, but at least the laptop is fine loading AFTER logging in.

Programs launched when logging into desktop:

-Malwarebytes
-Norton Security Suite
-ATI Catalyst Control Center
-CMedia Xear 3D Sound Configuration
-HP Digital Imaging Monitor
-Local Internet Connection Icon
-Volume Icon

Programs launched when logging into laptop:
-Norton Security Suite
-Wireless Icon
-Volume Icon
-Power Icon

So, there's hardly any stress on the laptop to load the programs.

4) I ran chkdsk /f on the machine, and here's the log I dug out from the Event Viewer.

As stated in the topic title, my webpages load extremely low. I've tried 3 browsers: IE, Chrome and Firefox, but none of them seem to make any difference.

My laptop is a Dell XPS 15 with a Intel Centrino wireless-n 1030, and according to my laptop, fully updated.

My main pc works perfectly, so it has probably nothing to do with my internet connection. And downloading on my laptop works also perfectly with a speed of 2 megabytes per second, but yet pages load slow...

First I thought it was my Bitdefender Antivirus, but after removing it and installing Kaspersky (due to its high rating), the problem persists.

I hope someone can solve my problem, as I find it really annoying and time-consuming.

If additional information should be neccesary I will gladly post it.

Thanks in Advance,

PS: Sorry for my inadequate command of English

Hi, I have a Dell laptop that runs on Windows XP. Recently I had a virus and a computer technician deleted the virus and put Symantec Antivirus on my computer. However, since the virus was deleted, many of my websites don't work, such as banking websites and tv websites (like abc.com, mlb.com, etc.). The websites say that I dont have my javascript enabled (which I do) or that I dont have flash player (which I do). I even tried to redownload macromedia flashplayer and the place where I  was supposed to click "install now" didn't show up. Do you have any idea whats wrong with my computer? Thank you!

Answer:Flash Player/ Javascript- images/ videos dont load?!

Check to see if the Norton product you have includes a firewall...if it does you will need to do some tweaking in there to get it to allow the sites you cannot currently visit.

Hello

I have windows 7 running on a HP Pavilion dm4 laptop.  Lately windows is very slow to start -close to 5 minutes just to get to the log in screen.  Also, the updates will not install.  I am getting various error messages and when I try to look them up I get general information.

I have done a disk cleanup, defragged and removed some unneeded programs.  I am going to do the Security Tango also.

What should I try next?

So I made my computer about 6 months ago, and just recently I've noticed that whenever I try to open a folder, it slows and takes at least 15 seconds (which is longer than my boot time). This also happens when I attempt to attach an item through a browser, and the browser freezes until the folder opens. I've tried running sfc /scannow, cleaned up the disk, and am looking for a solution that doesn't involve reinstalling windows. Any solutions out there?

IE takes a very long time to load home page, 20 to 30 minutes. Once loaded it works fine. Norton Anti-virus was also turned off when I started the computer and I couldn't get it to work. Actions taken: 1. Tried to reload Norton AV with new definitions via internet connection. This failed and program would not work. My subscription ends in 15 days but should still be valid. 2. Uninstalled Norton.3. Ran Spybot in SAFE mode. No problems found. 4. Ran Ccleaner.5. Ran Ad-Aware. No problems found. 6. Loaded AVG, ran AVG. No problems found. 7. Downloaded Firefox. Works fine as a browser.8. Ran McAfee Stinger. No problems found. What am I to do? I would really like to get IE working again and I think I might have some malware. I know that my computer is bogged down with something I just can't find what. I have deleted everything I can and I still have NO free space on my hard drive (not literally none but very very little).

I did the READ&RUN ME FIRST thread directions...the log files are here:

View attachment ComboFixLog.txt

View attachment mbam-log-2008-09-23 (20-12-51).txt

View attachment SUPERAntiSpyware Scan Log - 09-23-2008 - 19-45-40.log

Please note that the last program did not create a .zip file as it was supposed to. I found the Hijackthis.log so I am including it but I may need to run Hijackthis and or MGTools programs again. Also, since it will only let me upload three log files I will attach the fourth one to a reply to this thread.

Please let me know what if anything can be done to help me out.

Thanks!

Hello all and thanks in advance for you help.
I have a dell Dimension B110 that is very slow to load and when I shut down a program it just seems to slowly scroll down the page and kind of bleed off the screen. I have defragmented the disks and cleaned the caches to no avail.
Can you look at the HiJack this log and see if there is anything that screams "problem"?
Thanks

Hi,
I'm a new guy here.
I've read a few things and tried them, but no improvement yet.

I have important church files on this drive, most of which I can recreate, but it would be a lot of work.
If i select this drive in Windows Explorer, it takes up to ten minutes just to show the directories.
If I try to copy a small file, it's running 70bytes/ sec. so e.g. it took ten minutes to copy 200kB!
I've tried uninstalling all the drivers, ran updater, ran updater troubleshooter,
I have a Toshiba Satellite, Win7, Norton AV, I have used Norton Utilities and it says the drive is fine!?

Any ideas where to look next? Or is the drive just got sick and dying?

Answer:Medion 8 Gb usb flash drive, recently got extremely slow!

Use Speccy and paste the log in the reply.

Now, to me, it seems like it is a processor error. In better words, it seems like the processor is either unable to handle the load that it is thrown on it. Or perhaps you are running too many applications, it's possible you have a malware. Can you copy other files (bigger than at least one MB) and paste them just fine?

Hi

I've been sent here from the Malware section where my problem couldn't be resolved as it seems my PC is clean from malwares.

Here is what I posted on the other section;

A quick word on my problem; Flash videos and animations are slowing my computer down a lot, and this applies on every browser. At first I tried reinstalling Firefox, then flash. I then removed all my add-ons for Firefox but I noticed that it was slow on IE and Chrome too. So I gave up on that track.

Firefox demands a lot of memory no matter how many times I'll reinstall it (with a flash video playing, it goes between 95 and 100% of memory usage)

Chrome doesn't use as much memory, but Flash is running slow nevertheless.

I ran all the programs (logs attached) but it didn't change much. I think it's going a little better, but I can't say for sure because my computer is getting slower as time goes on;

When I boot the PC, it will run Flash animations/videos properly for an hour or two. At the end of the day though, it will be very sluggish.

Thanks for the help,

Shg

Answer:PC is extremely slow when a flash video/animation is running

Hi Shoogoo, and welcome to MG :wave What version of JAVA do you have installed, and what is your OS? (XP, Vista, Windows 7?) no, no logs are there. Also, are you on a dial-up connection or hi-speed?

You might need to update your JAVA. The current version is Java6_Update20. That would be where I would start to look first, sometimes just updating will help a lot.

I just can't figure it out. I have an old PC (P2 350 with 256 ram -- Win2K Pro) and my flash videos run so choppy (even in a smaller screen). My P4 at work can play them no problem. What baffles me is that I'm able to play avi's (movies) in fullscreen with no slowdown whatsoever on my old PC. It's obvious that flash videos require a faster CPU in order to run smooth. Why is this? I was so surprised to see my avi files play in fullscreen with no hiccups.

Can someone explain why flash vids are CPU hogs?? What's the difference between avi's and flash vids?

Thanks.

Answer:Why do flash videos play so slow???

I'm really surprised that no one has an answer to this question. Where's all the smart mods in here with all the experience???

Can anyone help me out here?

I am getting an annoying issue. Youtube seems to load videos really slow on 360p and up. I am decent internet speeds:

On other websites that have video streaming in HD, the videos load fine no buffering. This only happens to me on YouTube and is happening recently. It happens on other browsers as well not just Firefox, didn't know where else to post this.

I've been having a problem for about a week now where all the videos on youtube load really slow (even the ones with just text and music on 240p). Weird thing is this never happened before and it seems to load fine during hours after 1AM or so and this only happens on YouTube. I can steam 720p from Justin.tv, and GameTrailers fine...

Here's my tracert to youtube. Anyone have any idea why this is happening or has anyone experience anything similar?

Answer:Videos Load Very Slow on Youtube

What client OS are you using again?

Did you already ping -t youtube.com? Any timed outs?

Did you also try the same YouTube clip from a different computer in your network? Tried on wireless and wired connection? Any difference?

Did you change your MTU sizing at all?

I suppose you could change your DNS servers and see if that changes anything...

I am kinda curious to know if you don't got crap in the background eating up your resources while you YouTube (e.g., Windows Updates, Anti Virus Scanning like Real-Time Protection or LiveUpdate).

Any other info needed, please ask.
I really need to ressolve this problem.

P.S I Also tried a reformatt a few weeks ago, and it didnt solve the problem :/

Answer:Urgent : System uses 50% or more when playing Videos, Flash Videos, Flash Games etc

Firstly, I would think it is fine that your CPU usage goes to 50% when playing videos... it has to use some CPU power to do this. Now the lagging is another story. First off I would make sure that everything is being properly cooled. If you have not done so in a while, clean out the inside of the PC, blowing off any dust from the heatsink, graphics card, power supply etc. Also what sort of power supply do you have? I want to confirm it's adequate for the system. That brings up the question, when did this start happening and was anything hardware changed around that time?

Hi,

Over the past few weeks, I was prompted to update Firefox two times. I went to a v18 then v19. When I updated to the v18, I was prompted several times to update Adobe Flash. I repeatedly got a message that a plug-in for Flash was vulnerable. I tried several times to update, but the uploads failed for some reason. After a week or so, my computer started running slow as I was on line. I kept getting persistent prompts to chat with someone in Google Chat even though I've never used that program and have always had my identity hidden. Now, videos will not load. If I click on any link or page refresh it takes several seconds to load.

I downgraded Flash to the generation 10 version.

I've run Malwarebytes and Microsoft Security Essentials and they show nothing.

Any help would be very much appreciated.

Thank you.

Hi, i have a problem that even when formatting the pc is still there.

My problem is that when ever i have a file that has videos with a lot of space the folder starts to load with the green bar.

So if for example i have a folder with 30 videos and worth 3gb then its starts to load and so i have to wait for the video to open after i click on it, even when i right click the video it takes some time if the bar hasn't loaded to open the option tab.

Might this problem be with the harddisk maybe its old?

I have a 550gt graphic card
10gb ram
i7 2.8

Answer:Windows 7 slow to load a file that has videos

Hi, welcome to TSF

What size is the hard drive, how much free space is left on it, and have you defragged recently?

What columns are visible when you open the video folder in Windows Explorer?

If you have columns for things like date, bitrate, length, etc, Explorer has to go into each of the video files to get the information, which can take a long time. Right-click all the column headers that you don't need and disable them, then refresh the page to see the difference in loading times.

So the problem is that youtube videos have been loading painfully slow. It doesn't happen all the time but it's been happening more times than not. My internet otherwise isn't all that bad just youtube is horrible. The funny thing is that it seemed to get a little better when I switched back to an old Linksys WRT54G router. The router I have now is a Linksys E2500 upgraded to the latest firmware. Also on another note my brothers WiFi on his brand new Dell XPS laptop with Win 8 runs slow too and Dell keeps telling him that since he has Wireless N the range is short only like 20 feet and that anything beyond that would cause him to have slower speeds which his room is like 25-30 feet away from the router. I find that to be a load of crap but maybe it's true but the fact is we have the 25 MB internet or well I think it's more like 30 MB now as we were just upgraded from Comcast/Xfinity and in his room he's averaging like 2 MB DL and 3 MB UL. Anyways my Desktop is hard wired and I get around 30 MB DL and 5 MB UL but youtube is slow and overall I just don't feel like I am getting those speeds. My Modem is an Arris TM822G\CT and so it has the Built in battery and everything.

Anyways any ideas of what I can do or what could be causing the problem and or just let me know if you need any other info
Thanks,
Edit: I just check my bros laptop again and I did a Speed test twice and he got like 30 and 28 MB DL with 5 MB UL and the only change I made... Read more

Normal flash games lag.
I installed VLC player and i ran videos on it but videos
ran in slow motion. Theres an option that makes slow motion vids but it says its in normal. Youtube videos run normaly
At first flash games ran super smoothly. But it started going slowly after I restarted. And restarted my computer again and it ran smoothly. An after that it kept on running slowly from then on everytime i turn my computer on :(

--I wonder if the 2 above problems are related

BTW. I am 100% sure that my specs are fast enough to run things as simple as flash games and normal videos (not 2 mention able to run Super HD if they even xist)

Hey! I decided to quit linux after some issues with flash player and came back to windows. I have installed Xp sp 3 and now i can't watch any online videos from youtube or similar sites because they play in slow motion and sound sometimes is left behind.
I've tried chrome and mozilla with last version of flash player - no change
I've tried different versions of video drivers - no change
Before I use windows xp sp 2 on the same machine(amd barton 2600+, 512 ram, ati radeon 9600) no hardware changes and videos ran flawless. Any ideas guys? Thanks

After a few days of everything working fine, it's gone to pot. Pages are randomly loading very, very slowly or not at all, though sometimes loading fine if I hit refresh. Further, any video will buffer fine, play for 30 - 120 seconds then stop, say it is buffering and refuse to play. Downloads will randomly be ok or extremely slow. I spent 4 days on the phone to the tech support for my broadband company. We've established that there is nothing wrong with my internet connection or wireless (we even tried going through all the channels) and speed tests are showing real download/speeds of around 8Mbps. My flatmate's internet is working no problem. I thought it could be a problem with firefox and the add-ins I have (NoScript, Cookie Monster, Unplug, McAfee Site Advisor), although everything is up to date and I had consistently cleared the cache. So I downloaded IE and used it 'clean&#... Read more

My computer has recently become very slow whilst browsing, especially if Java or Flash is involved. This is true with whichever browser I use (IE8; firefox 8.0.1; Chrome). I have attached relevant logs as per forum rules. Any ideas if I am infected or not? I use f-Secure internet security (part of TalkTalk) which I changed from Mcafee IS about 1 month ago.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I've started having problems when logging on to my Dell Laptop running Windows 8.1 Pro. The icons are slow to appear after logon and I can't select icons with the touchpad. The screen then flashes blue and the icons reload after which the laptop operates normally.

I get an Error Event ID 1000 copied below which seems to be the problem. It points to a faulting module twinui.dll. Have you any advice how to solve this problem?

Answer:Icons Slow to Load at Logon & Blue Flash on Screen?

A couple of us have just interacted about "slow icon loading" so you for sure are not alone.

Explorer.exe is the process responsible for the icons et al - I have killed that process and restarted it when the Volume icon in the systray doesn't show up as it is supposed to.

If you do a Google Search for "twinui.dll" you'll see lots of folks with the same error - perhaps one of those hits will resolve the problem.

Post-post addendum: Though the "resolution" might not be the ACTUAL resolution, there is a thread right here about the same problem - years old: Can not access apps

Hello, I had bought Ideapad Y560 (i7-740QM) last December. I am not usually watching web based or flash videos, so I was not bothered much. But, now I have a project to work on which requires me to play and test web based or flash videos (like on sites youtube vimeo etc.). I found that my machine gives Blue Screen Of Death (BSOD) whenever I try to play web based or flash videos. It shows error particularly related to atikmpag.sys. I have searched on the forums and accordingly followed steps:(1) My BIOS is updated to version 71, which is the latest available on lenovo site for my system.(2) Used recovery to install fresh windows.(3) Updated my ATI Display Drivers to the latest version available on lenovo site for my system. I also tried to open the link mentioned in one post which refers to the UNOFFICIAL version of the driver solution, unfortunately that doesn't work. I am afraid that I might have some hardware issue. I am herewith attaching the two latest minidump files for your reference. (1) Minidump1: https://docs.google.com/open?id=0BybEvcpnqTMKMTk3ZDIzYWItMDIyYi00MzExLTk5MGEtZWI4OGU1MWFhMWE3(2) Minidump2: https://docs.google.com/open?id=0BybEvcpnqTMKZjg0ZWRmNGItMjkxNC00NTIyLTgwOTYtNTdiNzY5ZWYyYzdk Please advice me to resolve the issue. Thank you very much in advance for all your suggestions. Hi guys,
I have just re-formatted my windows7 for the second time in about a week. everything is working as intended with exception to online flash videos. Youtube videos are functioning, because they are using HTML5 i suspect.
An interesting note: upon reformat and installing of my mobo drivers, i installed Avast AV and then went to animefreak.tv to check the functionality of my flash player. I was able to watch the latest episodes of Naruto Shippuden and then i got back to installing security addons for my Firefox browser. After doing this, my flash player is not opening videos on that same website i just mentioned, nor on primewire.ag (which i used without problems up until my re-format about a week ago).
I have not installed any WindowsUpdates, as right now i'm not sure that i won't re-format again to try this all over to eliminate this problem.
I am playing Star Trek Online right now, it is operating just fine, all other functions of my OS seem to be OK, just this flash video issue is all the problem that i can detect at the moment. I use my PC for browsing the web, investigating government intrusion into personal rights mainly, and also for recreation like video games and the aforementioned movie and anime viewing..
I suspect that my security addons to Firefox might be getting in the way of my flash video viewing.. I currently have 'play DRM content' disabled as snooping and tracking are my mortal enemies online..

I am curious as to what the "normal" cpu usage is for watching a video, such as a divx or xvid video, and also what the "normal" cpu usage is for watching a flash video online, on a site such as youtube.

I did some tests and found when watching an XVID video, I got the following results...

Windows Media Player 11........... 30-42%
Windows Meida Player Classic..... 27-40%
VLC......................................... 12-25%

I was interested to see how much lower the usage was with VLC - how can this be? I would think they would be using the same engine for decoding, so I can't account for this difference. It also jumped around a lot, as you can see with these wide ranges.

Then for flash videos, on you tube for example,
I got...

Firefox 3 (beta 4).......... 35-50%
IE7...............................30-45%
Opera..........................32-48%

About the same for all 3. I was wondering if this is high or considered normal.
Also something interesting to note, is that if a video is playing, but i scroll down so that the Flash "box" is no longer in viewing area (i can no longer see the video playing, only hear it), CPU usage goes down to about 18-22%. Same thing happens if I keep the video playing but just minimize the page.
I'd like to hear from anyone with the same issues, or if I am just being paranoid!

Thanks,
Tyler

Answer:CPU usage whil watching videos and flash videos

playing flash and divx videos requires much processing power. as far as i guess your pc is p4 1.7 ghz or something like that. updating ram or agp will not work to improve performance.

Hello all!

I'm sorry I have to bother you guys about this, but I really do not know what to do on my own. My computer was recently hit by some popups from Internet Explorer, and eversince then it has been EXTREMELY slow. The internet is not exactly slow, but everything else about the computer is. Starting up the computer takes forever, loading up programs, you name it. The computer itself is not even that slow, and never performed this bad, so I am sure this problem is virus/malware related. I also have been forced to use Mozilla eversince the popup barrage from IE, which I have never exactly liked. Anyways, here is the HiJackThisLog below. Thanks again in advance!

I am trying to solve this problem on a friend's laptop. It is a Sony Vaio with Windows 7 64bit, using Chrome. Bought within the last year. I can play videos from sites like youtube, hulu, and sports sites, but when I try to play a video from putlocker, gorillavid, or other streaming sites typically used for videos like anime or tv shows the video either doesn't load (just spins) or takes a REALLY long time to load, almost like it is downloading the full video before it plays.

I borrowed another laptop from the library which also has Windows 7 and Chrome and all the videos play fine on it using the same internet connection, so it is definitely something local to this machine.

I have searched the net for three days trying to find a solution, but to no avail. I have the latest versions of flash, java, etc. I have tried older versions of flash. I've disabled the antivirus and firewall. Disabled the built-in flash plugin for chrome. I really am not sure what else to do. If anyone has any suggestions I would readily welcome them. I have tried other browsers as well and had similar issues.

Hey, I was wondering if anybody could help me.

Recently, videos online such a YouTube and on things like 4OD and BBiPlayer aren't loading as fast as they used to.
I swapped Internet provider in the February just gone and it was great, everything would load really fast and I had no problems. All of a sudden this past week or two it takes absolutely ages to load a video. Sometimes they won't even start loading and I have to refresh the page a few times to get them to load.

I have noticed that in general it takes normal internet pages a while longer load, but it is nothing in comparison to how long it takes videos to load at the moment.

I have deleted my browsing history, cookies etc and that still hasn't helped. I don't know whether it is something I need to talk to my internet provider about or whether it's something I can fix. Just incase this is of any relevance, I use Google Chrome as my browser, my internet provider is Talk Talk and I connect to the internet wirelessly.

I'll be happy to tell you anything else that I can, I would really appreciate it if somebody could help me out as it is really annoying me.

Thanks,
Krystie.

I installed Oblivion yesterday on the following PC which has all the lastest drivers:

OS - Windows XP Pro (SP2 Installed)
CPU - Intel Pentium D 2.8Ghz
Video Card - 256mb Nvidia Geforce 7600GT
RAM - 1gb PC3200 DDR

When I loaded up the game I watched the opening video but it was extremely choppy/laggy & little black lines kept running across the video in all different places.

I then got into the game and I couldn't believe how smooth the gameplay was compared to the choppy opening video I had just watched. Three was no lag at all and I had everything set on high.

I'm just wondering why the videos would be like this if the ingame play wasn't. Surely my specs should be able to handle the videos shouldn't they?

Answer:Videos In Oblivion Are EXTREMELY Choppy/Laggy!

From the looks of it, your computer is equipped for almost any game for the next year. *Is instantly jealous* But, I had the same kind of problem with my 6600GT a few months back. Here's what you do, and if this doesn't work, then someone else might be able to give you a better idea (Also, get the latest drivers. That *always* helps.)
Go into the Control Panel. Double-click System, go into (in the System area) the Device Manager (Located in Hardware), and then from there select "View" and "Resources by Connection". Select the IRQ box and look for your video card. If there is *anything* sharing the same IRQ port, that's probably your problem. Change the IRQ by one of two ways, depending on motherboard. One way is the edit it in the Bios, the other is to move the offending item to another slot, if it's, say, a sound card.

Some issues you can work around but this one is a real crippler to the functioning and usage of the computer.

The keyboard freezes for 5-10 seconds while typing before spewing out what Id been typing. Also videos keep playing with the sound in the background while the video stays frozen then jumps to the proper spot after the same 5-10 second freeze.

I have a clean boot of xp sp3 on an image and I have reloaded it several times now and lie clockwork it happens after about 3 weeks of smooth usage it just seem to pop up at exactly the same time after the fresh install exactly the same issue.

I have looked at the obvious possible cause- checking cpu usage but its at 0% or close to it.

The only thing Ive noticed is that it seems to happen after running games so maybe it is to do with memory (i check the momory usage after playing the games and usually its on about 800megs of a total of 1.5gig that is plenty tho isnt it?)? Also when I reset the computer that seems to stop it for a little bit but then sure enough it comes back again after I run a game and shut down again. Also I don;t think its a particular program because Ive been monitoring what Ive been installing and can't think of anything having been put on in particular. it could be but I install a program then monitor for a while after and nothing happens. It seems to come back when I least expect it always luring me into a false sense of security to give me maximum frustration when it shows itself again.

Answer:Keyboard freezing while typing and videos same deal extremely irritating

This may be caused by overheating. Shut down the computer and open the side and clean out all dust and blow out all fans with a can of compressed air.
Do a Clean Boot (no startup items) If that works, add one startup item at a time until you find the culprit.

ok this is gonna be a bit long but i want the details there. the issue pc is my old pc. it has windows 7 its an asus msn-la motherboard i cloned this drive and used it in my new pc. after a few months my new pc's drive died and i took the old drive from the issue pc(witch was not giving issues at this time) and stuck it into my new pc until my replacement drive came. when i got the replacement drive i cloned the drive again onto the replacement drive and then put the new drive in the new pc had no issues there. put the old drive back into the issue pc (this is when issues started) the pc booted up to the windows desktop loading screen fast but once it got there it sat there for like 5 min before loading into windows. once it loaded into windows it was un usable for around 10 min while it loaded background stuff. once it finally loads into windows if i try to open anything its still responding extremely slow. is there anything i could do to fix this or is this going to me a re install only situation? i did try to use a windows 7 disk to do a startup repair but it claimed i couldn't do it because i dident install from that disk.

Google Chrome has become slow to load and then it is very slow loading web pages and navigating round web sites.
From previous experience I thought this may be due to a virus but Malwarebytes has found nothing.
Can you help please.
Hope this is in the right place-if not please advise.

Answer:Google Chrome slow to load and slow to load web pages

Further info.
Noticed 2 instances of msiexec.exe running in Task Manager.
Googled this and found that if genuine it is part of Windows installer
but can also be a virus.
Did a search and found MSIEXEC.EXE-2F8A8CAE.pf
Googled this and found it is probably Malware.
If so can you help me get rid of it please

Hi all, I am a newly employed system administrator in a company, so I don't have a lot of experience in the field.

On one of the computers of the workers, logging in into her account has become extremely slow. From when she gives in her password to when she can finally get to use the computer, it lasts about 4-5 mins. Then she can use the computer comfortably, but when she tries to use Microsoft outlook, outlook also freezes for about 5mins before she can finally get to using it.

This problem started suddenly, prior to this, the computer had been working just fine. I've defragmented, ran chkdsk, reduced the number of programs that start on bootup, stopped some services from running, but the problem is still thesame.

What I've noticed is that it happens with her account, but doesn't happen with my administrator account. Anybody familiar with such a problem? Any help will be highly appreciated, thanks in advance.

Answer:Extremely slow loggin into Domain, Microsoft Outlook very slow.

Is it just with her account, or with her computer? It sounds like she just might have a slow nic card. Run the ping 127.0.0.1 which is the harware loopback test. Maybe it is just intermittent activity, that being why it is taking so long. Also see if there is another computer on the local network segment that could be causing the problem but sputtering out junk packets. Run network monitor and see what is happening on the network. Maybe there is too much dhcp traffic, if thats the case just increase the lease time. It could be a lot of stuff but i hope i helped with some places to check.

During copying files even small size (Say about 500 MB), Windows 10 suddenly drops speed after about 30 seconds to 10 KBPS and then many times to Zero. This transfer process thus becomes extremely slow and along with that the whole laptop becomes extremely slow - Example during transfer to open My Computer takes 3 minutes to open and finally the PC hangs. If no data transfer is happening the laptop works perfect but only after reboot. Once data transfer has started the whole PC slows down and works normally only after reboot.

Hello folks, first time posting here and hoping to get some help with my problem. Just FYI, I am posting this from my laptop (not the computer with the problem) seeing as that computer is almost unusable in its current state.

I'll try to be as specific as possible until I can get logged on to the other computer and get information you folks may need.

About a day ago, I was searching for mods for Skyrim. My computer had been running perfectly fine and as fast as usual since I could remember before this point. However, in the midst of searching, Google Chrome stopped responding. I tried to start the task manager with Ctrl-Alt-Del, but nothing happened, so I had to force shut down via the power button.

When my computer starts, one of the fans goes full force before anything on the screen appears, and during this restart I noticed the fan was running at that speed for a significantly longer time than usual. Sure enough, when the "Starting Windows" screen appeared, the little Windows animation didn't appear right away, maybe a minute later it finally showed up. This part of start up took about 5-10 minutes, then the screen went black with just the white mouse cursor in the middle of the screen (was movable), then finally the password entry screen appeared. After putting in the password, another 5-10 minutes went by and was followed by a black screen with a white cursor once again.

Once the computer was started it just was not running nearly as fast as it s... Read more

Hello and welcome to Computer Hope Forum. My name is Dave. I will be helping you out with your particular problem on your computer. 1. I will be working on your Malware issues. This may or may not solve other issues you have with your machine.2. The fixes are specific to your problem and should only be used for this issue on this machine.3. If you don't know or understand something, please don't hesitate to ask.4. Please DO NOT run any other tools or scans while I am helping you.5. It is important that you reply to this thread. Do not start a new topic.6. Your security programs may give warnings for some of the tools I will ask you to use. Be assured, any links I give are safe.7. Absence of symptoms does not mean that everything is clear. If you can't access the internet with your infected computer you will have to download and transfer any programs to the computer you're using now and transfer them to the infected computer with a CD-RW or a USB storage device. I prefer a CD because a storage device can get infected. If you use a storage device hold the shift key down while inserting the USB storage device for about 10 secs. You will also have to transfer the logs you receive back to the good computer using the same method until we can get the computer back on-line. *********************************************************************Please download AdwCleaner by Xplode onto your Desktop. Please close all open programs and internet browsers.Double click on a... Hello,

I've browsed the forums, but haven't found the cause yet for my issue, so I'm asking for help.

Here are the basics:
Win XP Home Edition, Version 2002, SP3
Intel Pentium 4, 3.4 GHz, 3.0 GB RAM
Motorola SB5120 Cable Modem
Netgear WNR2000 Router
ZoneAlarm Firewall
AVG
Malwarebytes
Spybot S & D (no tea-timer)
CCleaner (with default settings only)

Browsers:
Mainly IE8, but I also have this issue in Google Chrome

What I've tried:

Unplugging modem & router for a minute, plugging the modem back in, waiting until all the lights are solid, then plugging the router back in, waiting until all the lights are solid, then opening my internet browser. Note: I've tried this with the computer both on and off.
Bypassing my router and plugging my ethernet directly into my cable modem.
Resetting my IE8 settings to default.
Disabling my firewall (ZoneAlarm).
Scanning with AVG (full system scan).
Scanning with Malwarebytes (full system scan).
Scanning with Spybot.
Running CCleaner.
Verified with devmgmt.msc that all my computer's hardware is functioning properly.
Verified with my ISP that I am not losing any packets and that my cable modem is functioning correctly.
Verified in Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) Properties that "Obtain an IP address automatically" and "Obtain DNS server address automatically" are checked.
Run ipconfig /renew with no issue.
Run ping of IP address and Default Gateway with no loss.

My dad asked me today to take a look at his computer because he said he updated to IE8 and now it doesn't work. I took a look at it, IE8 never even downloaded. There is an automatic update pop up that says there is an update available and the update is IE8. I would guess this is where he tried to download it from. But before I got to figuring that issue out I noticed that his computer was incredibly slow, the word slow would probably be an understatement. It takes almost 5 minutes for the computer to fully load on start up and shut down is almost as long. I decided to download and run spybot, ad-aware, MBAM, HJT, and another one I think was called regsupreme (icon says jv16 PowerTools). I ran them all they all came up with a ridiculous number of issues I deleted an rebooted every time. I deleted many of the tool bars I noticed along with anything else that looked silly and useless. I checked the memory and only 17GB had been used out of 180GB and it seems like there is something else still slowing it down after deleting all the junk. There was no improvement in performance at all after all of this. It seems like the computer is just working way to hard for small tasks, even if you let it do nothing it sounds like the computer is busy doing something strenuous. When opening task manager there is quite a large list of processes while I am only actually running a few things and in the performance section CPU usage occasionally spikes all the way to the top while PF stays ri... Having a problem that just started today. Internet Explorer -- in fact any new window using the Internet -- now takes an extremely long time to load, as much as 2 minutes.

I'm using XP. Outlook e-mail works fine and does not have the long load time. This is just occurring with Internet Explorer. Eventually, my homepage will load (I've even tried changing homepages, and the long load time still occurs).

Also, once I'm in Internet Explorer -- after about two minutes -- when I attempt to open another IE window, the same thing happens -- again, a load time for the contents of the new window of about 2 minutes.

This is a new problem that only began occurring this morning. I can't really identify or think of anything I did differently that might cause this new aggravation.

Would anyone have any ideas? Thanks in advance.

I am having system performance issues on my desktop machine. I have traced the cause to one of the instances of svchost.exe, which is typically taking more than 80% of the CPU and frequently up to 100%. I have a process monitor app (System Explorer) which shows that when this problem occurs, the instance of svchose.exe that is causing the problem invariably is hosting two executables that are part of the Windows Mouse & Keyboard Center. As shown by the process monitor, the relevant fragment of the process tree is as shown below:

svchost.exe -k netsvcs
taskeng.exe { very long alpanumeric string. A class ID?}
ipoint.exe
itype.exe
The excessive CPU load is attributed the svchost.exe. The "children" typically show zero load.

I also have a laptop, and when I examine the process tree on that machine, I also find the same svchost.exe as the parent of the same children, but the CPU loading on that machine shows zero CPU load for the entire stack, except for times when I am moving the mouse around, when ipoint.exe shows a few flashes of non-zero load (typically 0.1%, which is neglibible).

So, something is clearly amiss on the desktop. The question is what, and what can be done to remedy the problem?

Hello.

I recently moved to a new apartment, and had Comcast Internet set up. This was a few weeks ago.

Since day 1, I've been having troubles loading web pages. With regularity, my connection speed would seem to slow to a crawl, and pages would either load very slowly or not at all.  Most times (but now always)  No "no connection"  error will pop up on chrome, the pages just perpetually load. Then other times, things will load just time. It's about 50/50.

At first I assumed this was just horrible Comcast connection speeds, but I noticed that my phone would load things fine on WiFi alone even when my laptop was having trouble. My roommates have also had no problems on their laptops. In fact, my temporary solution to this problem has been to tether my phones WiFi connection through my laptop whenever I'm having problems, and this has worked always.

So the problem seems to be rooted to my laptop. The sporadic nature of the issues has made it tough to troubleshoot, but I've learned that when the issue appears ...

1. I cannot ping any websites
2. the issue happens across all browsers
3. The built-in windows network troubleshooter detects no issues

I am running Windows 10 on my HP Envy m6 sleekbook.

I should also note that I've recently had an issue in the dealt with in the "Am I infected, what do I do?" forum here, and in doing so ran several malware scanners/removal programs all which came bac... Read more

I believe I have some sort of virus as all of a sudden my boot up to even get to a state that I could try to get to a website is very very slow....took me about 20 minutes to even get to this point to post....

along the way, while trying to open a browser I recieved a NORTON 360 "virus blocked alert" that stated the risk name of "HTTPS Tidserv Request 2" hat was successfully blocked.....

Yesterday while trying to shut down I recieved an "ICIBAI.exe" Encountered a problem and needs to close

I also noticed prior to that when I pressed control, Alt, delete listed in my programs running was something called "LSASS.exe"...dont know what that is...there were other programs listed in there as well that I am not aware of and really didnt look like they belonged.....

and one final item....when booting after this issue occured....(I have shut down and rebooted in an attempt to see if the problem went away....) I have gotten a "Windows Installer" message that then opens up a box for my printer that states "HP Photoshop Essential"...this takes about 25 minutes to finally get up and then gets to another box that states "The feature you are trying to use is on a CD-Rom or other disk that is not available, insert the HPPHOTOSMARTESSENTIAL" disk and press ok"......since that is now open I am going to insert that disk and press ok...

I just bought the TouchSmart IQ506 today and was copying files onto it from a USB 2.0 flash drive. I had it plugged into one of the USB 2.0 ports on the back and when I was done with it I hit eject. Vista said it was being used so it couldn't be ejected. So I logged out and back in. Same thing. So I rebooted, and the same thing happened. So I just completely powered the thing off and pulled it out. It almost felt like it has hot enough to burn me. This drive has been working fine with my regular PC for about 1.5 years and I have never had this issue before. In fact I just stuck it in my normal PC for 15 minutes and it barely got hot at all. Should I just take it back and trade it for the other one they have in stock or do you think it was a Vista lockup thing (which could have ruined my flash drive!)? Thanks.

My computer will not play any type of video unless it is a flash video, be it .mpg, .mov, .avi, etc. My extremely tech savvy friend even took a look at my computer and doesn't know what to say. We reformatted the computer to see if the problem were caused by some kind of malicious software, but no luck; I still can't run videos.

When I try to view videos using Windows Media Player, my computer becomes so slow trying to run the video (I assume that's why it's becoming so slow) I just cannot do anything else and wind up manually restarting the machine by holding the power button until the machine shuts down then pressing the button again to turn the machine back on.

My computer has a split partition between linux and Windows, or however you say it. I can't tell you much more on this subject; my friend set it up. At the moment my linux is down, but my friend says it is easily fixable; we just haven't gotten around to it. Before it went down, I was able to view all videos on linux, not just flash. Weird, huh? The problem must lie in Windows, right?

I'll be checking back on this thread often. If you need more information, just ask.

Answer:Help videos flash on and off

Netflix uses Silverlight, not Flash. Apparently there were problems with the last Flash update. So Adobe has released two updates that are supposed to fix the problems. Try using the Flash uninstall tool at the link below and then install a fresh copy.

i have a problem where some videos will not load on my computer. i am trying to provide you with as much info about my computer (as requested) as possible, but i have little technical skills or computer literacy.
i have windows vista. my computer is a sony vaio laptop. x13-04657. i use IE 7.
everything was going fine, one day it would not load certain videos. it loads youtube videos, but not LINKED youtube videos (hope i am making sense). any video that is linked to, like a video posted on a forum or something, does not show up. instead i get this: (attached image)
i have tried :
uninstalling and reinstalling the latest version of adobe flash.
downloading and using firefox (latest version)
but nothing has worked.
i *think* it may have something to do with windows live one care. i am not 100% certain but i thin that this happened after windows live one care said: we have identified some programs that are not being used but are scheduled to start up when you start your computer, would you like us to stop them from turning on at start up (those, obviously are not exact words, sorry) and i clicked yes.
i don't know what to do, please help.
another thing is, is there an option to block/unblock linked videos? (i really hope i am making sense, sorry) and if so where? maybe it got turned to blocked when i last did an automatic update (if that's even possible)?
thanks for trying to help.

Answer:some videos will not load

did i make it clear that these videos that used to load (play.... work, whatever) used to do so no problem?
and my internet is wireless (private network) through at&t and is pretty fast, imo.

This problem just started out of the blue....I went to view a mpeg in WMP9 and it came up with this error .

Windows Media Player cannot play the file. The file is either corrupt or the Player does not support the format you are trying to play.Click to expand...

Tried a couple different files (mp2, mpeg) all came up with the same error - files that played normally two days ago. Files that are avi and wmv play fine. Next I try to view a DVD in my player and it came up with this error...

Playback failed due to a problem with the video subsystem. You may be using an unsupported display mode or your system may not have a working decoder installed. Click to expand...

Again, this DVD worked fine the last time I used it.

Any suggestions? What's going on?

I'm running Win98SE, P3 450mhz, 128RAM, lots of gigs HD. Windows Media Player 9, WinAmp 5 Pro, InterActual DVD Player, Video Decoder.ax, Audio Decoder.ax

Hey

Suddenly I can't load videos on putlocker and couchtuner. Netflix and Youtube works fine.
When I click start on the video the circle loading-thingy just keeps spinning and the movie never starts.
I'm using chrome and first I tried to 'clear cache and cookies', then update chrome and java.
I've tried to install Firefox and the problem is there as well.

I have no idea what else to try, I've searched so much on google and usually I find the answer, but not this time - that's why I'm writing you, to get some "personal help"

I have Windows 8

Please help meee

EDIT: I forgot to mention I'm using FF.

Answer:Watching Videos in Flash.

Are you using 64-bit? IIRC Flash support on 64-bit Linux is near-nonexistent.

When trying to play a Flash video on cnn.com, it said I had ver.6 and needed to install ver.8. I installed it and when trying to play the video I get a message saying " the video timed out attempting to play. Please ensure that you do not have any Flash blocking plug-ins installed." I haven't the slightest idea where this "plug-in" would be installed. Anybody have any ideas? Thanks!

Hello:

I am trying to download some flash videos from the following website but I have no idea how.

FUGU: Immersive Education on Sports, Lifestyle and Self-Improvement Topics

Several websites say to try different things but none of them seems to work.

I paid for one of the full courses and would like to have it on my ipad.

Thanks

Hello everyone, first time poster here.

Anyways here is my problem: My system will not play any Flash videos. I have tried playing them in Internet Explorer, Firefox, and Google Chrome.

I have had this computer since Christmas and has worked flawlessly up until now.

I have uninstalled/reinstalled all the browsers and the various Flash updates and software. Still nothing.

Is this a problem with my computer, browsers or the Flash software?

Thank everyone in advance, I'll do my best to clarify anything.

Answer:Flash videos won't play, at all.

am having a problem playing flash videos. I open a video and it tells me to download the latest adobe free flash player, which I've done and still no luck

Answer:can't play flash videos

Try uninstalling the old version of the flash player before re-installing the newest version. sometimes the new version won't install properly over the old version. Go to control panel> classic view > "programs and features" find the Adobe Flash player and uninstall it from here then go to the Adobe web site and get the new version and install it. Also check and see if you need to enable the Active X control for the adobe Flash Player.
