I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer:Can I import my old gmail emails to

If you move everything to the inbox, and choose to retrieve all in the pop settings it will retrieve all of it. Then setup your outlook like you want it

I was just thinking, use windows live mail, set up IMAP and add your gmail account. Then you can move all the email to your live email, and it will show in too

I want to export the "sent items" mails in Outlook 2007 (Windows vista basic is OS) to the sent box in Outlook express 2006 on another PC having XP Prof as the OS. Can somebody guide me to do this properly... Thanks

Answer:how to import emails to outlook express 2006

Unfortuantely, this option isn't inherent to OE. In order to import into OE, you need to select another email program to import from. So, if you want to import your sent items, from Outlook, you'd need to export the Sent items to a pst file, then install Outlook on the second computer, then running the Import Wizard in IE to import the messages.I haven't worked with Vista, but if you could install and configure OE on machine number 1, you could run the export/import, then copy the sent items, dbx file from computer 1 to computer 2.If you own both computers, why not just install Outlook on machine 2?

I have always used Hotmail with Outlook Express - I can send and receive Hotmail emails from my PC. But now that Microsoft have threatened to withdraw free POP access, I have decided to try GMail.
I have got my GMail working with Outlook Express. I can download all my received emails into a folder on my PC, but I do not appear to be able to download my sent emails.

Is there a way to do this?

I have been trying to follow this guide to get my local emails uploaded onto Gmail:

Unfortunately it seems that this guide is for Outlook users, and I use thunderbird. Does anybody know of a way to import local emails from Thunderbird to Gmail?

I've heard of the "Gmail Loader" program, but AFAIK this program will strip the emails of their original send dates. What I'd really like is for a solution where all my local messages can be sent and stored on Gmail, with the original sender information retained, and the original send dates retained. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

Answer:Import thunderbird emails to Gmail

Here are the instructions from gmail to enable IMAP in thunderbird ->

Just attach to GMAIL via IMAP and the drag and drop you saved local email to GMAIL through thunderbird.

Make sure you enable IMAP in your GMAIL settings under Settings -> Forwarding and POP/IMAP.

The question really says all about what I want to do, or need help on. I recently signed up for a new outlook account to try out the new outlook preview and I've set up gmail to automatically forward new messages to my outlook account so that I can use outlook to manage my gmail account.

Do any of you know how I would be able to forward the old messages, and not the new ones, to my outlook? I already know that they can be fetched into outlook by outlook's very own service, forwarding would be faster, so..?! Also, since I now use outlook to send email on behalf of my gmail account, how do I make it sync each email I send using outlook with my gmail - so that gmail has it all?

TY in advance. Please do help.

can anyone give me a step by step description, how i can export my Emails and the Address book from Outlook Express 6 to another Computer which runs also Outlook Express 6?
I tried already to export the Address book but it only allows me to export it as a *.csv-File and after i put the data on my usb stick and try to import it on my new computer by File - Import - Addressbook, the program keeps asking me for a *.wab-File? (btw: i can only use the: "Text File (Comma Separated Values))" Option, when exporting the address book.

Export and Import from email messages doesn't work either.

Has anyone a really step-by-step description how to do this??

Thank you very much in advance for your help

Answer:Solved: Import & Export from Outlook Express 6 to Outlook Express 6

Hi wizzle2003

When you are ready to Import the .csv file on the destination computer,
In Outlook Express,
File > Import > Other Address Book
You should then be given the option to choose a Text File (Comma Separated Values)
Then Browse to the .csv file to complete the Import.
Enable Show Hidden Files and folders:

Open My Computer,
Tools > Folder Options > View tab,
under Hidden Files and Folders, verify Show Hidden Files and Folders is selected.
Remove the check mark for Hide Extensions for known file types.
To locate the directory where Outlook Express keeps it's message store:
Tools > Options > Maintenance tab > Store Folder
Note the location, then Cancel out of the window.

Navigate to that directory, copy all the .dbx files to a folder on the Desktop.
Copy those files to a folder on the Desktop of the destination computer.
If you are using a Flash drive to transfer the files, it may take a couple of transfers to complete.

Once all the .dbx files are on the Destination computer,
Open Outlook Express,
Tools > Import > Messages > Microsoft Outlook Express 6 > Next
Select: Import mail from an OE 6 store directory
Click: OK
Browse to the folder containing the .dbx files on the Desktop.
When you reach the Finish button,
You should see a "Congratulations Your data was successfully imported"

If there is more than one Identity in Outlook Express, switch to the other Identities in Outlook Express and repeat the steps above.

Answer:How to import files from Outlook Express 5 to Outlook Express 6?

Hi Melissa, Welcome to TSG! First, make sure you can view hidden files and folders and do a search for your OE5 .dbx files. Find > *.dbx
Remember the location!

Then to import from OE5 into OE6, click
File > Import > Messages > OE6, then select "Import from an OE6 store directory" and Browse to the folder containing the OE5 *.dbx files. Make sure they are not set to 'read only'.

Hey Folks

I am trying to import OE5 .dbx files from a Win2k machine to a completely different machine (Win2003) with OE6. Everytime I try to import the DBX files I get an error message stating:

"No messges can be found in this folder or another application is running that has the required files open..."

The thing is I have even tried copying the DBX files from the old machine to the new machine and importing them from a directory on the new machine. I stil get the same message!

Another strange thing is the impor facility on OE6 does not provic an option import OE5 files, only OE4 & OE6.

I've already imported my mail accounts and address book, just not my messages.

Any ideas how to fix this?

Thx in advance.

Folks I have read the MS tech notes on how to get Outlook 2003 [I have it via Office 2003 Professional, full install] to import from OE6. It fails under either option: import from "another program" or "Import Internet Mail....". Under the former it is pointed to the correct folder, but fails with Error: Cannot open,.. another program in use" but there's not... I tried copying the folder to a nice clean location on the C: and checked all the properties, nothing interfering, still won't open the folder.
Under the latter option it just doesn't do anything after directing it to the correct folder. Seems to accept the command, closes the window, but does not import anything. No error messages.

Umm.... do MS teams communicate with one another??

Closely related: If I could just get the FOLDERS I had setup it would be a great asset, or if i could just get the ADDRESS book it would help. Do you know how to import *.dbx folders into Outlook 2003? Or the old outlook Express address Book?

Answer:Outlook 2003 Will Not Import Outlook Express folders, mail, anything

They are written in two different formats that are uncompatible. The Oulook Express has a file sytem totally unique to it.

I had the same problem about 6 weeks ago going from XP to Win7.
I had to transfer address book to notepad and put it into Outlook one at a time. The old mail sits in the old PC.
I have heard you can transfer the OE mail files over to Windows mail or gmail etc. Then transfer files from the new mail server to Outlook.
File system is changed over with the mail transfer- I haven't tried it though.

I did a Google and found this. I didn't find this page six weeks ago.

My Sent Items and Inbox folders became filled with emails on Tuesday and I was unable to send or receive emails until I removed several thousand old emails from both folders (which I did, then the system was running fine again as of late Tuesday). I discovered this problem when I attempted to send 3 emails with attachments, making the emails around 5 megabytes each in size (I did not realize that the recipient's system could not handle any email more than 2 megabytes - thus, my Outlook Express kept trying to send these emails every 1 minute for 3 hours until I discovered the problem). I had to delete around 100 email notifications that the recipient could not receive emails at that size and that my email boxes were full.

I corrected these problems and relocated the emails from my Outlook Box to Drafts (until the recipient can change his settings).

All day Wednesday (yesterday) I was able to send & receive emails without a problem. This morning I was sending & recieving as well, then all of a sudden, I was unable to receive any emails. When Outlook attempts to receive, I briefly see a box with the number of emails attempting to be received, then I get an Unknown Error message. I am able to send emails without any problem and my Internet connection has been stable all day.

I'm trying to read the e-mails from my old Windows 98 computer on my current Windows XP computer but I haven't been able to figure out how to successfully do this. The e-mail client on the Windows 98 machine was Outlook Express 6 and the one on my current XP computer is Outlook 2002.

I followed the instructions listed on the Microsoft support site (Article ID: 270670) for backing up the data from Outlook Express which left me with a folder of .dbx files (Inbox.dbx, Drafts.dbx etc) which I then burned onto a CD and transferred over to my XP computer. My problem is that now that I've done that I'm not sure how to get Outlook 2002 to import that folder of .dbx files or recognize it. I googled it but didn't find any helpful results other than links to expensive conversion programs. So could anyone here offer any help on the matter? Thanks in advance.

I am trying to leave Microsoft Office behind on this latest computer I built. I have installed my old hard drive in order to transfer the data to my new hard drive. Now I am having trouble importing settings and messages to either Thunderbird or Outlook Express on my C drive from Outlook 2003 which is on the F Drive.

Thunderbird doesn't allow me to look for it and says it can't find Outlook when I try to import directly so I am trying to import into Outlook Express and figure if I want to use Thunderbird, I can import from Express since they are both on the C drive. However, when I try to do it with Express using the standard "File - Import - messages - Microsoft Outlook" method I get this message.

"Messages cannot be imported from the MAPI client.

MAPI is not installed on this computer or an error occurred while initializing it."

I am assuming that without Outlook being installed on the C drive the MAPI isn't either. Or, perhaps it's because I am using <Microsoft Windows Professional XP 64

I exported the messages as csv files and other settings as .pst but can't seem to import them either? Any suggestions on how i might get this done? I would prefer to get everything into Thunderbird but, at this point will settle for Outlook Express. My last choice would be to install outlook 2003 on this new drive as that means I need to install the entire suite. Thank you.

I have bought a new laptop running OE6 on Windows XP Home. I want to import my email from the old desktop system which is OE5 on Windows 95.Having read through a number of the threads here, I have located the files in OE5 and copied them into a folder on the new system. However, when I try to import the database files into OE6 the first part of the wizard is asking which program I am importing from and the only options for Outlook Express are OE4 and OE6. Selecting either of these obviously doesn't work. I therefore have 2 questions.Firstly, how do I import when OE5 is not a programme option? Secondly, do I have to delete the existing files from the store location in OE6 first? If someone has experience of this problem and could provide a step by step guide I'd appreciate it.

Answer:Outlook Express 6 - Import Problem

Normally you would have to export the files from OE5 (File\Export), specify a location to export to and then click on OK.Then, copy the exported files across to your new machine and import them into OE6.I have heard of a few problems when people copy the files across without exporting them first.RegardsFitshase

What version of OE are you trying to import from/to?

Have you tried the Import option from the OE File Menu?

What errors are you getting if any?

OE 4.x uses *.MBX and *.IDX files for the mail boxes (OE 5.x uses *.DBX). Did you save the IDX files also?

Sorry to post so many questions, but the answer to these questions will help us resolve your issue quicker.

Hi got a question. Importing address book and/or files from another program on another drive, is fairly straight forward. What I'm trying to do is import from program folder, or the storage location folder, from an older installation on a different (installed) physical hard disk that is no longer an active OS on the computer.I can pull almost all files i need to off of that drive, and as far as the email, i can import the address book file successfully for both outlook express and OUTLook. What i cannot seem to do successfully is to import any old mail. Does anyone know, if this cannot be done?  Or if it can be done, how to do it?that was drive was failing-and-riddled-with-spyware-viruses and it had to be removed. I put in a new drive/os, and really am just trying to bring back the little womans' old email files, maybe a few of mine.Any help is greatly appreciated. I just found this site. I am sure i will be back.

Answer:IMPORT OUTLOOK Express files

Search the old hard drive for .pst files.  That would contain your Outlook messages.  For Outlook Express messages, search for .dbx files.   If you find a .pst, try importing into Outlook.  If you find .dbx files, either try importing them into Outlook Express Alternatively (for Outlook Express), if you are going to leave that hard drive installed as a second drive, you might be able to merely change the Store location setting in Outlook Express to point to the location on the old hard drive and just leave those messages there.

I have switched from one laptop to another, and in the process to bring over my OE files, I copied from all the .dbx files from my old laptop to the new in the relevant Identity directory (as the identity was the same). But on the new laptop, OE will not start with those files. I get a long error message that has the code (0x8007000E, 5) at the end.

Any ideas? I do not want to lose all my old emails and folders!

Please help...!!

Answer:Outlook Express 6 Import Fails

Hi jackf

Welcome to Tech Support Guy Forums!

If you copied all the .dbx files to the directory where Outlook Express keeps the .dbx files, close Outlook Express.

Open Windows Explorer and navigate to that directory.

Check all the files for the Read-Only attribute and remove it, Outlook Express does not like Read-Only files.

Then locate the Folders.dbx file and Right click send it to the desktop.

Open Outlook Express, it may take a minute as it will be recreating the Folders.dbx file which should include the new .dbx files.

Let us know what happens.

Does anyone have the time to help me please ?(at some point, I'd like to get Outlook working properly also ??)thanksFurkin

Answer:Import/Export between Outlook & O.Express

just make outlook your default mail handler (and news if you recieve news) and all should be ok. If both programs are on the same computer there is no need to export anything. TT

Answer:import messages from/ to outlook express 6

Try selecting all the emails from within OE (ctl+a) and then dragging them to a new desktop folder. This will give you a lot of individual .eml files, and then open this folder on xp system and drag them back into the relevant OE folder.

I have a disk on which someone backed up her outlook express. Unfortunately she didn't export her address book as comma separated values. There are no *.wab files either. There is a WAB.exe file but that only seems to open the addresses of whatever computer I use. There is a whole list of DLL files they are
and the following applications

As far as I've managed to find out wab.exe just runs the address book but doesn't contain data. She says someone at another company managed to open both her mail and addresses from this cd. It is not rewritable and there is no other copy of her mail/address book anywhere as it's been deleted.
Therefore it must be possible.
Any idea which of these files has the info I need?
I'm nervous of dll files

Hi guys,I have made a format disk and am recovering everything. I had five folders in my Outlook Express that I saved to import after reinstallation, all of them are under the .dbx extension; however, they are not coming up.I could import old folders that I had in another back-up (to try if importing was a problem), and it worked out, but these old folders contain irrelevant information. The error pop-up says: 'No messages can be foudn in this folder or another application is running that has the required files open. Please select another folder or try closing applications that may have files open.'I tried to copy and paste the folders in the 'Identities | Number | Microsoft | Outlook Express folder but it is not working either.Suggestions? (I really need those folders to work).Thank you so much for your time and effort.Julian.

A client's Outlook Express address book was exported from a Windows 2K Pro machine and saved on a CD-RW disc as a .csv file. I am unable to import it to the client's new XP Pro machine.

I have sucessfully imported the file to two other 2K Pro and two XP Pro machines.

After loading the CD-RW disc and clicking on File, Import, Other Address Book, and then highlighting Text File (Comma Separated Values), I click on Import and the system hangs with no further action.

Thanks, any suggestions will be highly appreciated.

Answer:Outlook Express import tool

Some CD drives have problems reading CD-RW disks. Try copying the csv file to the harddrive and importing from there.

I need to recover old emails and address book entries from a (previous) version of OE.
I removed the OS HD (Win98 - OE ver.= not sure) from the old machine and set it aside. Note that I didn't know to export any files at this time. I never use OE and I'm doing this for a friend. I installed the new HD along with new MB/Mem/CPU etc. and installed XP Home without having the old HD in the system. Got the hardware installed and working then reinstalled the old HD. I ran OE from the fresh XP install thinking I could just get the old OE info (email, addy book) from the old HD. I can't seem to find anything! I ran the OE .exe from the old HD and it still just runs the new installed version. I'm hoping that the data is still there intact and retrievable somewhere.
Any input or info would be GREATLY appreciated!

I've just done a full re-installation of Windows ME on my PC, to overcome deteriorating performance. I backed up data and restored it OK. However, I backed up the Outlook Express 6.0 messages by doing an Outlook Express export into several files, and copying those files back onto the new PC (I suspect now that I should have simply copied the files themselves in Explorer, rather than exporting them).

I have tried to import the messages from these exported files into my now empty Outlook folders. I chose to import from an OE6 Identity, and selected the folder where the files are; the files are all named after the Outlook folders, and have type DBX. The import function shows me the files listed as folders. I select one of them, and the import claims to be successful, but no messages are imported.

I have also tried simply replacing the new empty files with the backed up DBX files, but although Outlook allows me to view these folders, it shows them as empty.

Does anyone know how I can rescue the messages from the exported files? All I have is the exported files.

Thank you

Answer:Import Files into Outlook express

That's not bad at all, actually.
Select all the rows.
Paste into Word (believe it or not)
Select all that you just paste, and NOTHING extra.
Hit Table-Convert-TExt to table.
Use a hyphen as the delimiter (might have to type under "Other")
Make sure it shows 3 columns will be used.
Hit Ok.
Copy the table. (Table-Select table, copy)
Paste into Excel.
Save as a CSV file.
Import into OE.

I can't swear it'll work. I don't use OE, but I do believe it'll take a CSV file--check first.

I have a USB flash drive that has a folder full of names and email addresses
in the ".vcf" format. My "Main identity's Contacts" folder is empty and for now I'd like to keep it that way. I have a "New folder", a sub-folder under Main Identity's contacts, and that is where I want to copy the contents of the folders' .vcf files from the flash drive. So far I haven't been able to do this

How do I import the .vcf files from the folder that is on the flash drive

Everything I have tried puts the .vcf files in the Main identity's Contacts list and does not copy automatically to the New folder, even when I drop & drag to the new folder.
I am trying to avoid having to put all the addresses into the main Identity folder , and then having to move or copy them to the new folder. i want to avoid this because I have the list on the flash drive edited just the way I wanted and it would be a slow, torturous, task to have to copy each file manually to the new folder from the Main identity folder. Hi, when I searched the forums for posts on Microsoft outlook I found posts in the windows and the computer software areas, a majority of the posts appeared here so I thought I'd try posting here.Okay, here's my situation: I currently have an email account with Adelphia and I use Microsoft Outlook 2003 to access that it account.  I setup Outlook so that when I receive the emails from the Adelphia account Outlook removes them and transfers them to Outlook (meaning a copy of the emails don't remain in my Adelphia inbox).  I've decided that I want to stop using Outlook, mainly due to the fact that it makes it difficult to access my emails from computers not on my network account.  I've decided to switch to a gmail account (for other reasons involving irritation with Adelphia). My problem is that I can't figure out how to get my emails from Outlook 2003 to my new gmail account.  I've looked in the questions and answers section, the forum, and both faq on gmail and outlook official pages and still can't figure it out.  I think I've figured out a way to redirect new incoming mail, but that's not my concern what I need is to redirect my old emails.  I know that I could just forward all of my old emails to my new gmail account, but that will be a huge hassle and the emails would then show up as being sent from me and not the original sender.  If I can't figure out another solution I'll do th... Answer:help transfering emails from outlook to gmail

I'm not absolutely sure but I doubt very much this can be done.  Think about it.  With Outlook, your mail is on your hard drive, not out on the Internet.  With Gmail, it is out on the Internet; it's web-based mail.  I looked at the info on Gmail on Google's site and, like you, found nothing about transferring mail from Outlook.  So, I no other option but to forward the mail to yourself if you really must get it all moved over to Gmail.

I use Outlook 2010 which syncs to my IMAP Gmail account.
This works very well.

Today something happening in Outlook (I might have dragged something, I don't know) and my mails (12,500 of them) ended up in Outlook's deleted items folder. Some Gmail folders just vanished, like Sent Items, Bin and Spam.

I immediately quit Oulook before it synced so all my mails are still safe on Gmail's servers. I checked via logging in to the Gmail website and also disabled IMAP to be safe.

I need some advice on how to fix the emails in Outlook.
I'm afraid that if I start syncing the mails will be lost from Gmail.
I also don't want to start a new Outlook .pst file as there are many gigs of emails to sync.

I've tried following the tutorial at the link below without success - mainly due to the fact that Outlook seems to be very unstable on their machine (hence the change to Gmail).

Are there any other ways of migrating these emails across to their new account? Note that the migration tool offered by Google does not work as the Gmail account isn't connected to Google Apps for Business.

One possible solution is that I could migrate their emails via my Google Apps for Business account though I imagine it would take forever to then forward these emails onto them (most likely manually using the Forward) option?

Here is the situation XP Home on both Stepmom's hard drive was failing and I had an unused Dell sitting around. So I connected the old drive as a secondary drive on the Dell so I could transfer all her user data to the new one. Now she had never exported anything for backup purposes. I was able to restore all her emails from the .dbx files. Then loaded OE on the new system, went to import the address book, navigated to the location on the old drive, and selected her.wab file. So after I did the window popped saying import was successful but when I looked for the address book listing there is nothing there. I know I selected the right .wab because the file size was triple the amount used by the default address book. I have tried to get her on a better email program like Thunderbird but is set on using OE.

Not clear what you did...but the emails need to be imported...and the WAB needs to be imported as a separate item.
Note that you can find the location of stored emails by going to the Message store and noting the path.  This can be changed, if you like.

Well just last night someone phoned me and asked for my brothers new phone number and then realized I hadn't set up an address book in W7. Upon doing a search of the forums I don't see much positive feelings.... about new address books and email clients.

I imported my old address book from my old hdd and upon inspection it only imports the name, email address and phone number. No other information. No street address, etc.

So now looking further into this, I see it looks like a problem, I used Outlook Express for years and thought I was going to just use webmail instead. It has been nothing but a headache so far making the switch. The only part about changing to W7 that has been difficult has been the change of email systems. I have yahoo mail but I didn't do a sync before I upgraded so my contacts there are outdated.

I used to have my address book syncing with my Blackberry under Windows XP so maybe I will try that route, since my phone addresses are up-to-date. Perhaps I can get all my addresses and numbers that way.

Wish me luck!

Do I have to make these folders myself in order to import the dbx files to them, and if so, HOW?!

Answer:how do I import saved e-mails to Outlook Express?

Warning: this is W98 method - your XP eXPerience may differ

did you put any emails into the new subfolders (the ones with the names from your saved files)?

for some reasoon if the folder is empty, it doesn't create a corresponding .dbx file

just copy a junk email into each folder you want to import into from your saved files - doesn't matter what, it'll be overwritten.

then close OE

make sure the import ones have the right folder name, ending in .dbx
then copy, paste them into the folder, overwriting the ones you put the junk email into

that's the long way LOL

have you tried using the import function?
just identify the loccation and folders you want to import and they pop in with the same folder names

for future reference, here's the tomsterdam site for OE stuff

Windows 10 then said it was importing my contacts. The process took a few minutes, and I could see my contacts' names flying by. It seemed to finish normally, but now I can't find the contracts on Windows 10. After the import, there was a message saying my contacts were in something called People. I found People in the Start menu under All Apps, but when it opened, it said "No contacts were found." Please help.

Put Contacts in the Search or Run box and it should take you to the Contacts Folder in C:\Users\YOUR_NAMZE\Contacts. I usually use Windows Address Book on WinXP to Export the contacts to a .csv/Comma Separated Value file which can be use for importing into a number of E-Mail programs and some Webmail and can also be opened in a spreadsheet program such as Microsoft Excel, Corel/WordPerfect Quattro Pro, Lotus 1-2-3, LibreOffice, OpenOffice, etc.

Any help greatly appreciated

Answer:import address book in Outlook express

I think it`s a hidden file anyway. You need to do a search on the drive but to search hidden files & folders. What OS are you using?

Answer:Import windows mail into outlook express

In Win7, navigate to the normal location of the Windows Mail boxes. If you haven?t moved it to a different location, it is the hidden folder C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Mail\Local Folders then Inbox, Sent Items, etc. Copy the .eml files (not other files such as winmail.fol) to an external device (or use a network). Create a folder in Outlook Express (File > New > Folder named, say, Old Inbox), which will initially receive the copied files. Close Outlook Express. Now open both Outlook Express and the folder containing the .eml files and arrange the windows side by side.Select (highlight) all the .eml files and drag them (strangely, Copy and Paste will not work) to Outlook Express, either to the new folder name in the left pane or to the folder contents in the right pane. Now open Old Inbox and drag the contents to your usual Inbox.

Answer:how to import aol email messages to outlook express

The last I heard AOL uses a proprietary file system for storing e-mails and address books. I am also not aware of any freeware that works with more recent versions of AOL. I did find one company with a Google search. They are selling a $24.95 software package that is supposed to do the job. I have never used the software and can not speak for how well it works or ease of use.
