I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

What kind of motherboard is in the dell optiplex 7010 sff? I am interested in moving the motherboard into a new case.

Answer:DELL OPTIPLEX 7010 motherboard

It's a completely proprietary mainboard - you will not be installing it into a standard case without a lot of rewiring, cutting and drilling sheet metal, and on the fly engineering.
If you really need more features, start with a case, power supply and a standard mainboard - otherwise, be sure you know what you're in for.

Using my 7010 yesterday and suddenly shut down on me. I have tried to diagnose the issue by removing additional cards/memory with no result. I have tested the power supply and it appears to be good. My motherboard has a small white sticker on it which I assume is the model number of the motherboard. It appears to read "OWR7PY"  the "O" could be a "Q".
I have found other SFF boards with model number "GXM1W" that appear to be similar to mine, is this the proper replacement for my 7010 SFF?

That product ID is for Dell Windows 7 Professional using OEM System Locked Preinstallation. It is not a Product Key. See here for more details:
Note you can also clean install Windows 10 RS1 and activate with your Windows 7 pro OEM Product key but that key should be printed separately on the systems affixed COA:

I am wondering if the Optiplex 7010 will physically accept the 850W PSU from the Dell precision workstation. I can't seem to find any dimensions for the stock PSU in the Optiplex, and the Optiplex has that latch that snaps in front of the PSU.

I am aware that the CPU power on the Optiplex is 4-pin and the Precision PSU only has 8-pin, but maybe I can modify it or get an adapter.

Always best to match memory--2 4gb is better. Mismatched memory runs at the slower speed. Check Crucial or Dell for memory specs.

Before you buy anything, what CPU do you have installed in the system?  Mainboard support is only part of vPro -- the CPU has to support it as well.

Hi there,

I have a Optiplex 7010MT with a new power supply. It is possible to install 2 pci-e graphics cards? The socket second socket it there but can I use that one for a second graphic card?

Answer:2 Graphics Cards in Dell optiplex 7010 MT

Yes and no.  The black PCIe according to the manual is 'wired' as a 4x and not a 16x so if the machine will allow you to put in a graphics card and run it, it will only be about 25 percent useful.

We currently have Dell Optiplex 7010 tower in our office. It's using a single Acer G6 G276HL monitor via DVI-I port on the video card. We were thinking to buy a second monitor and I want to know if it's going to work?
The video card inside this Dell is AMD Radeon HD 7470:
I was thinking to get the same screen: issue is connecting it to the display port on the Radeon card. So I was thinking to get this adapter:

Answer:Trying to set up second screen for Dell Optiplex 7010 tower

I presume you're using a DVI-D cable since the current monitor doesn't support DVI-I which the video card supports.
Why not get a second monitor that supports DisplayPort and go directly from DP on the video card to DP on the second monitor without complicating things with that DP>DVI-D adapter?

I purchased a used Optiplex 7010 MT from ebay, but I am starting to wonder if there is a problem with the motherboard, specifically with one of the system memory channels.
The PC came with a single Nanya brand RAM Module 4GB (DDR3-1600) DIMM located in the slot #2 position.
I tried to upgrade the RAM using some G.Skill Ripjaws X RAM (DDR3-1600), 4GB x 4, with all slots filled.
The PC will not post or even get to the PSA Diagnostics. Instead the Power button flashes 2,3 which indicates "system board, memory or CPU failure"
So I played around a bit, and I discovered that I can put ANY of the RAM in slots 2 or 4, and the Computer will post and runs fine, but if I put any RAM in slots 1 or 3, (with or without any RAM installed in slots 2 or 4) then I get the same error code, "system board, memory or CPU failure".
This tells me that my RAM is fine, since the system WILL recognize it in slots 2 & 4.
I even tried installing the Nanya RAM module in Slot 1 and in slot 3, by itself, and the error persists.
I have even tried upgrading the BIOS Firmware. It's currently running BIOS version A20, with no solution to the problem.
The system is currently function fine with 4GB RAM sticks in slots 2 & 4, for a total of 8GB, although when I check the BIOS status, it shows that the 8GB of RAM is in "Single Channel mode"
My question is:
Is my motherboard faulty, or is there some setting I need to select before my system will recognize the RAM in Sl... Read more

We ordered a handful of 7010's a few years ago and I'm having trouble updating the BIOS on one of them. It's currently on A09 and am trying to go to A24. Each time it reboots, it never flashes the new BIOS. Here is the list of things I have tried that have not fixed the problem.
-attempted to downgrade to an older firmware (A05, A01)-attempted to upgrade to next BIOS after A09 (A12, 13, 15, etc)-tried both within Windows 7 and from a USB boot disk running FreeDOS. -pulled the CMOS battery-installed brand new CMOS battery-unplugged the hard drive and external video card
Each time it says it's preparing, reboots, but I never get the screen that actually flashes the BIOS. It just shows the Dell logo. I've never had a problem like this with BIOS updates. Any thoughts why it's doing this and how to fix it? Thanks!

Hello all,
We just received a shipment of Dell Optiplex 7010s with Core i7 3770s @ 3.10 GHz with 16 gigs of RAM and the Intel HD Graphics 4000 chipset.
I am trying to setup 3 monitors, as I had with the old Optiplex 755s and I am having an issue.  All three monitors are detected in Windows and by the Intel configuration utility.  However, when I enable the 3rd display, one of the 3 displays randomly turns off.  As such, I cannot use the 3rd display.
I have 1 Dell E228WFP hooked up via Display Port to DVI, 1 Dell P170S hooked up via Display Port to DVI, and 1 Dell P170S hooked up via VGA.
Has anyone had any luck getting this working?  I have updated to the latest Intel Graphics driver to no luck.
Appreciate any advice you all could give me.

Now if I turn it on, it shuts itself down after 2-3 seconds, turns on again after 10 seconds and keeps doing this until I pull the plug.

Good afternoon, recently i go a Optiplex 7010 case and i got problems with the connectors of the case.
The shape and size are different from the standards for USB 2.0, HDD led and front audio interface (a all in one connector).
I would like to have the pin-out of the connector to mod the connections to use them with a different motherboard (dell XPS 8300(the connections are standard)).
I already managed to have the usb 3.0 working with the motherboard and the on/off button, as well as the front power led.

Hi everyone:

I was curious if anyone else experienced this issue? I have a Dell OptiPlex 7010 desktop/mini tower that I bought off the official Dell site. I configured that mini tower to have an SSD drive as the main drive, which I like very much, except one very annoying issue. Sometimes out of the blue Windows 7 will hang up, I can't click anything and the mouse starts spinning in a circle. This continues on for about half a minute and then it always comes back to life. Suddenly I start getting all my previous clicks moving windows, opening things, etc, all at once. This happened at least a dozen of times by now and I started to notice that when this happens the HDD/SSD LED on the case glows solid, which made me suspect that there's something going on with the drive itself.

Does anyone know what's going on and how to fix this?

PS. I tried contacting Dell support about this issue but they are pretty useless. I spent several hours in a chat with a guy once that eventually simply hung up on me. Then I emailed someone at Dell, for which the guy replied with instructions to run their hard drive diagnostic tool, which I did, that did not show any errors. (Note that I don't have a hard drive, it's a solid state drive.) I replied to the guy only to never hear from him again.... So I think I'm pretty much done with the Dell support

Hello all!
I am attempting to get an EVGA GeForce GTX 650ti (1GB) video card working in my Dell Optiplex 7010 Tower.  The card fits quite nicely inside the computer, however when I attempt to install drivers from NVIDIA and EVGA (which I'm pretty sure are the same), my system crashes upon rebooting.  It tries to load the login screen, but the screen keeps going black.
I assume it's a problem with the drivers because the card works just fine without them installed (I just can't play any of the graphic-intensive games I want to play).  I have been emailing NVIDIA support back and forth this week, but everything they have suggested thus far hasn't helped.  One thing they recently suggested was to disable the on-board graphics, but I'm not entirely sure how to do that.
If someone could help me disable the on-board graphics/help me properly install the drivers, that would be great!  My computer is currently running Windows 10 Professional.

I started noticing about a week ago that my Optiplex 7010, when rebooted from the OS (Windows 10 Pro x64), will not complete the post process and gets stuck at the big Dell logo.  The only resolution is to power cycle it.
Today I ran the complete diag tool on it and it reported no issues.  I did notice that there was a Bios update available and downloaded it in attempts to upgrade the Bios.  However, when the Bios installer reboots the machine, the same thing happens and the installation doesn't proceed.
The only peripherals attached are the VGA monitor, a USB keyboard and mouse, and the speaker cable.  What else can I do to figure out what's causing the system to hang at the Dell logo?
PS.  I did notice however that when I enter the Bios and make a change that causes the system to reboot, that reboot is successful.  So it's almost as if the only reboots not succeeding are ones stemming from the OS.

I posted this earlier, but I didn't see it listed... Here it is again.
I have a syspreped Windows 7 Enterprise 64 bit image that will successfully install on any make / model of Dell or Lenovo computer that our agency uses, but not on a Dell OptiPlex 7010 workstation.
The syspreped Windows 7 image is a clean install with just the OS with updates. No other applications are installed.
After the image is installed on a Dell 7010 and reboots, OOBE setup starts and get a blue screen error when installing devices. It makes to about 70% before getting the blue screen error.
On reboot after the bluescreen, OOBE setup will continue briefly then displays the following error: "The computer restarted unexpectedly or encountered an unexpected error. Windows installation cannot proceed. To install Windows, click “OK” to restart the computer, and then restart the installation."
I think the USB 3.0 drivers are causing the problems. I know the Regedit fix to get past this to finish OOBE setup, but it is a manual process.
Our agency uses LANDesk to image computers. The whole process is automated start to finish.
We mainly use Dell desktops and Lenovo laptop in our agency. The same image installs flawlessly on all of them except for the Dell OptiPlex 7010 desktop. What is different about the Dell 7010?
We even had the same issues before using LANDesk. We previously imaged computers with Acronis.

I need an advice for buying a dedicated video card, for my Dell Optiplex 7010 SFF. Curently I have the Intel HD (Intel i3 3240), but I want something more.
Ive found the AMD Radeon HD7470 at a good price, but also the Nvidia Quatro 600 (low profile).
My question: Will Nvidia Quatro 600 work on my system?
The Dell Optiplex SFF has an 240 W power supply. The PCIex16 Slot (BLUE) (Voltage supported 3.3V/12V) has the maximum wattage = 50 W, and the Nvidia Quatro 600 (low profile) has the maximum power consumption = 40 W.
And, if I want to upgrade my CPU to i7 3770 in the future, will the power be enough?

The Dell 7010 desktop motherboard has a front panel connection with a total of 19 pins and a separate power switch connection. Anyone know if it's just a matter of finding the 2 power pins to short and start this up, or is there more to it? I've tried shorting every 2 pin setup in the front panel and power switch no luck, although I suppose it could mean a bad motherboard, However; without knowing what 2 pins are for power how am I suppose to know for sure. Also is it possible that more then 2 pins have to be shorted or touching to start this bleeping dell motherboard.
I'm guessing the power pins that I would have to short are in the power switch connections and therefore I don't have to do anything to the pins in the front panel connections. I'm hoping there are no other pins that need to be connected besides 2 power pins to get this to start. I'm not concerned with any other pins (except maybe restart).

I bought a Optiplex 7010 motherboard online because it was the cheapest LGA1155 board with 4 RAM slots and 2 GPU slots. I have an i3 3220 in it right now with 4GB of RAM, however when I plug it in and switch the power supply on, only the PSU fan spins, and not the CPU fan or the SYS_FAN.

For the record I am fairly experienced. I have tried different RAM configurations and different PSUs. I know the i3 3220 is compatible.
The PSUs I have are non-Dell aftermarket PSUs.

Answer:Optiplex 7010 SFF not POST

I pieced together a similar 9010 SFF from bits I bought on eBay, and it seemed to be a proprietary design intended for use in a specific chassis with a specific power supply.I suggest trying it in the correct chassis with an OEM power supply. It does not need special memory.

I am trying to setup three monitors on my Dell Optiplex 7010. I have the integrated graphics with thee ports (2xDisplayPort, 1xVGA) and a PCI graphics card with two ports (1xDVI, 1xDisplayPort).
The three monitors I have are 2xDVI output, 1x VGA output.
I have been using some converters to get my monitors cables to converto to DisplayPort to connect them to the display Ports on the PC.
The two DisplayPort monitors are working fine using the integrated graphics but the VGA is not. I have been told that this is because of the converters I am using.
I have tried multiple different combinations to get this to work with no luck :(.

Could anyone suggest how I could get this to work or what graphics card i would be able to buy to get this to work?

Answer:Three monitors on a Del Optiplex 7010

Hi Shawn,

I have been in contact with one of your technical guys and we went through some diagnostic checks to see why I could not get both the integrated graphics and the dedicated graphics card to work. We finally found a solution. Because I am using Windows 8.1 I needed to update my BIOS using this link. Once I updated my BIOS I went into the BIOS and checked the multi-display checkbox. Once this had been done and I restarted my PC I was able to connect monitors to both the internal and dedicated graphics cards and they are all working.

Hope this helps someone out.

#1. Intel® CoreTM i7 3770 / 3.40GHz, 8M, VT-x, VT-d, TXT (vProTM), 77W
#2. Intel® CoreTM i5 3570 / 3.40GHz, 6M, VT-x, VT-d, TXT (vProTM), 77W2
#3. Intel® CoreTM i5 3470 / 3.20GHz, 6M, VT-x, VT-d, TXT (vProTM), 77W2
#4. Intel® CoreTM i5 3475S / 2.90GHz, 6M, VT-x, VT-d, TXT (vProTM), 65W2

It also lists the 2 following CPU's as OK by the "X" in the accompanying box.
#5. Intel® CoreTM i5 3550 / 3.30GHz, 6M, VT-x, VT-d, TXT (vProTM), 77W3
#6. Intel® CoreTM i5 3450 / 3.10GHz, 6M, 77W3

Are all of these correct. Are there other Quad Core CPU's (or faster) that will work in this machine?
Thanks ahead of time for your help!

Is there room in the 7010 Desktop case for a 2nd hard drive?  And is any additional mounting hardware required other than screws, and then an extra SATA cable?

Answer:OptiPlex 7010 Desktop - Add a 2nd HDD?

There are four different versions of the Optiplex 7010, Mini Tower, Desktop, Small Form Factor and the Ultra Small Form Factor.
Assuming that you have the Desktop version and not the Mini Tower.
The desktop version, can support either one 3.5", or 2 x 2.5" SATA hard drives.
You will need a 3.5" x 2x 2.5" hard drive caddy, plus a SATA data cable and possible a SATA Y power splitter.

I own many Optiplex DT 7010's, purchased with 4GB of ram.  The Dell technical manual suggests (4) 4x4gb DDR3 PC3 12800R maximum.  I purchased (4) pcs, as specified, but they did not work.  Looking at the existing 4mb ram it states 2rx8 on it, but the 4 purchased parts state 2Rx4.  Is this the reason these will not work, and do I need to purchase (4) x 2Rx8's?

Answer:Optiplex DT 7010 Ram Upgrade

What does the crucial memory configurator tell you on crucial's website? What brand/specs RAM is this? It is good of you to notice the 2rx8 specs, that may be part of the issue.
Do you have the latest BIOS's installed?

I have tried everything I can think of, no message boards I found had any answers to this same question posted a year ago. I sat on chat with Dell support for over an hour, no luck.

Setups I've tried:
DP 1 >> DVIDP 2 >> DVI
DP 1 >> DVI Splitter >> DVI 1 & DVI 2
DP 1 >> DVI 1
DP 2 >> DVI Splitter >  DVI 2 & DVI 3

I updated both the graphics driver and BIOS using the links provided by Dell Customer Support.

Can only get the display on 2 of the 3 to come on at any given time. IT Department in my office isn't sure what else to do either..

Hi, I have two optiplex 7010, with:
319-0914 : 3rd Gen Intel Core i5-3570 Pro cessor (6MB, 3.4GHz) w/HD2500 Graphics, Dell Optiplex 7010
No aditional video card, just de embeded intel hd2500.

The problem is, that Im trying to use the Display port instead of standard VGA cable, but, If I connec the display port to my monitor (display port input) no signal is detected in my monitor. I have tried the two different display ports on my dell, but no signal is detected on my monitor, so I need to use vga port.

I have this problem with two different optiplex 7010 that i own, one with windows 7, and the other one with windows 10.
I run the self diagnostics, but no problem is detected.
I appreciate your help.

I'm looking at getting a second-hand 7010 SFF soon, and was wondering about the upgrade potential for the future.  Initially I will just use it for browsing, but I am looking to max it out for gaming in a few months time.  So what can I do with the standard PSU?   What's possible?

- What is the fastest range of CPUs I can put in there  ?  Based on purely CPU power.  I'll be putting in a dedicated GFX card.

- 16GB RAM possible  ?

Then what can I do with a low-profile graphics card  ?  What's the maximum it could handle  ?

Is there a possibility of neding to upgrade the PSU when it comes to maxing out the GFX potential  ?

I just bought an Optiplex 7010 from Dell Outlet, and have a question.  The technical guidebook to the 7010 says that each of the four DIMM slots can handle up to 8GB memory modules, but then says the system maximum is only 16GB.  I know you must have Windows 7 Professional or Ultimate to access more than 16GB. Provided you have that, can this motherboard handle over 16GB?  If I added two 8GB sticks to the 2X4GB already installed, would it work, or would the machine not function or only recognize 16GB of it?

Answer:Optiplex 7010 memory question

Hi kbckbc,
I have verified the system specifications and found that the maximum memory that this computer supports is 16GB.
BIOS would recognize the memory cards installed in all the memory slots. But Operating system will only recognize 16GB and will not recognize the additional memory that is installed on the computer because of the architecture of the chipset.
Kindly revert and let me know for further clarifications.

My Optiplex 7010 DT specs:

- Core i3-2120 65W CPU
- 8GB DDR3 (2x 4GB)
- 320GB HDD
- Standard Dell 250W PSU
- Standard integrated graphics
- Windows 7 Pro COA (at the moment)

Firstly the 7010 that I have is the (DT) desktop version, not the largest of the four in the range, but the next one down.  It can only take low-profile video cards, and I have read that it needs to run the power from the PCI-E x16 slot without additional connectors from the PSU.  I have a few questions.

1)  With the PSU at 250W, can I run a GeForce GTX 750 Ti whilst I have a 65W Core i3-2120 in the system.

2)  Could I run a faster low profile card than this with extra splitter type connections?  If so, which cards and how would I do this?  I would also need to consider the wattage issue with the card.

3)  If it would to possible to run a faster GPU than a GTX 750 Ti by using extra connectors, would you advise an upgrade to a lower wattage Intel Core i3, i5 , i7 "T" or "S" model CPU which run at 35W and 45W instead of the 65W CPU I already have?

4)  Also, one last question about RAM (nothing to do with video cards really), but the system currently has 8GB DDR3 (2x 4GB).  I am considering adding another 2x 4GB to make it up to 16GB.  However, I have read that some of Dell's documentation originally stated that only 16GB would run in this system, but some people have said that it will run 4x 8GB (32GB) if you have Windows Pro or... Hi all,
I've searched the forums, and have found some answers, but most are about a year old. I have an Optiplex 7010 with the following setup:

Hard Drive, 1TB, S3, 7.2K, 512E, SGT-GRDABP

Dual In-Line Memory Module, 4G, 1600, 256X64, 8, 240, 2RX8

Card, Controller, 1394A Pc Interface, Full Height, Lsi Logic, Lead Free

Card, Graphics, 1G, OUGA9, Full Height, W8

Assembly, Heatsink, Shroud, Performance, Medium Tower, 95W

Processor, IVB, I7-3770, 3.4, 77W, 4C, E1

I realize to upgrade my graphics card, I will need to upgrade my powersupply, and i'm fine with that. What i'm really struggling with is what the motherboard specs on this computer are. I'd love to know what my PCI-E bandwiths are on it (IE 1 PCI-E X16 1 PCI-E X4?)
Also, i'd like to get the best graphics card I can get for what will fit (for adobe work). I measured the space, and wow its not much.. most graphics cards are over 10" long, and the space it seems to me is only a bout 7.5" before I run into the housing for the hard drives. I supposed I could cut out the housing and make space, but love to hear what others are using.
Also, I noticed there are only two PCI-E ports, but the 2nd one is most likely useless due to how close its pushed down to the bottom of the case so i'm stuck with a 1 GPU option.

Answer:Trying to upgrade video card for an Optiplex 7010

The power supply looks good.  It is only 5.9" long which is what you want for your custom snap in mount that you have on this system.  The MSI card is very short so it looks like a good fit too.  Your system has a PCIe X16 2.0 slot for the video card.  The lower PCI X16 slot is wired to X4 speeds.  With only a 250 watt power supply, this system is just meant for smaller video cards if running two.  The GTX 760 is a powerful video card.  I see no need to put a higher-end video card that costs $500 or more in a Dell system.  For this, do a custom build with a nice gaming case for much better air flow and cooling.

I´m experience a bit of a problem with this machine when i try to hook it up to my Samsung smart tv (2016 HDMI 2.0)
It works flawless in 1080P. If i use 4K 60hz it won't send the signal to my tv every other boot, if i send the pc to sleep it will send the signal at wake and work as intended. The problem is the initial boot. First i salved the problem by turning UHDcolor off and on to get the signal but now that won't work anymore, i have to restart the pc (sometimes several times) to get the tv to display the picture?
There is no problem at 1080P and when using my other monitor (1440P) there is no problem, there seems to be a problem at 4k resolution only. I also tested my other pc with the Samsung tv and it handle the 4k signal without any issue (gtx 1060).
Is this a bug, or perhaps a resolution never intended to work on Optiplex 7010?

Hi ulanddanne,Thanks for posting.Apologies for your computer not doing what you expected, however there are a few factors:1. We never tested the 2016 GTX 1050Ti in the out of warranty 2012 Optiplex 7010.2. We cannot know how our BIOS will respond to the 2016 GTX 1050Ti on bootup. Also, we cannot know if the drivers required by the 2016 GTX 1050Ti are even installing correctly in our 2012 chipset.Even though this may work, it is out of the scope of Dell's Tech Support, and not supported.

After updating Bios to A25, restart caused bluescreen with "inaccessible boot device" error. Tried to get into safe mode from advanced options of startup settings, but it did not work. I tried it several times and it would just restart without safe mode and always get me back to the bluescreen. After many frustrating tries, I just selected "turn off pc" under advanced options, waited a couple of minutes and turned the computer back on. Much to my surprise, it booted normally and everything seemed fine. Just to make sure everything was okay, I tried "restart" again - and again it went to bluescreen. Here's where it stands - if I turn off the computer and "start" again, it works fine but if I "restart", it goes to bluescreen. Any advice would be appreciated.

Answer:Optiplex 7010, upgrading the graphics card

The photo you have is of the mini tower.
You will need a higher-capacity power supply for a video card in that class.  Most of these require direct connection to the power supply that your OEM PS does not have.
The 970 is a high end card even now - and while what was said of the 10x0 cards is true, beware one thing:  these current-generation cards (along with their AMD counterparts) require UEFI support.  Your system does have UEFI support but if it's currently running in legacy (BIOS) mode, you will need to change that AND do a ground-up reinstall of Windows (UEFI requires a GPT-format drive, which in turn requires a reinstall from BIOS-MBR mode).

I just upgraded my optiplex 7010 from the stock 2x2GB: Looking at the dell support website it lists this RAM as:
317-8985 : 4GB, NON-ECC, 1600MHZ DDR3,2DI MM,OptiPlex
Part #: GDN7X (dual in-line memory module, 2G, 1600, 256x64, 8, 240, 1RX8)

I purchased gSkill (2x8GB) 1600MHZ ram certified for CL10-10-10-30: (NewEgg part #: N82E16820231558).

When I took out the 4GB and installed the new 16GB (Because system max is 16GB according to the manual) it loaded fine but windows says its running at 1333MHZ. I tested it in memtest86+ and it said it was running at 1333MHZ with 9-9-9-24 timings? At the bottom it said *XMP*

My question is pretty straight forward...can I adjust the RAM timings and speed in the bios? I entered the bios but couldn't seem to find anywhere where I could access/change these values.

Lastly, according to my quick math, it's certified for a time of:
10/1600 = 0.00625 seconds. And is now running at a time of:
9/1333 = 0.00675 seconds. I would really like to run it at 1600MHZ and even if that means switching to a CL11-11-11-36 that'd be okay with me but I can't figure out how to do it?
(11/1600 = 0.006875 seconds so technically slower than is currently running at...and running fine).

Answer:Optiplex 7010 RAM running at 1333, not 1600

Dell does not offer any way to change the memory settings on this model. Boot into the Bios- General- System Information screen. What does it list for Memory Speed?
We only shipped one 8GB stick on this model =66GKY 8GB, 1600MHz, 512X64, 8K, 240, 2RX8
Two 8GB sticks would be installed in the two white memory slots.

My son got himself a 7010 via his work (free pc) and he wants me to upgrade anything that can be upgraded.  Considering he works with 3D imaging apps like CAD, the AMD 7570 needs to be drop kicked.  He wants to game on it when not working (the desktop is for him to work at home - he has another at work).  I figured a 79xx series would be a great upgrade but the current PSU is horribly inadequate for any future upgrade - EVER.  275 watts hardly suffices with any card above the 75xx series.
Having bought Dells in the past, the PSU can be a pain to upgrade because of size constraints and proprietary limitations.  Does anyone know what options I have in upgrading the PSU to say a Corsair 650TX?  The specs of his machine are:

I have a customer who has an OptiPlex 7010 with the optional Radeon HD 7470 video card with 2 monitors hooked up to it.
He now wants to add a third monitor. I know he can't use the built-in VGA for that but I need to know if he could add a second card. The HD 7470 is in the PCIe x16 slot. There is a PCIe x16 (x4 mode) slot but that would not be good for video.
So can a PCI video card be added to allow a 3rd monitor to be connected? If so, any in particular to get or to stay away from? This is for regular office work, no CAD so no super graphics are needed.

Dear Sir;

I am building a new computer, I am using a used Dell OptiPlex GX280 motherboard. And all the specifications I have found say to use a Pentium 4 processor 530 (3.0GHz, 1M, 800Mhz).

I found one on eBay and received it yesterday.

But the socket on the motherboard has more pin holes than the processor has pins. On the motherboard the socket is marked (Foxconn C-3598). If I plug in the CPU into the socket, there is extra holes along the side and the bottom.

Does (or will) this processor fit and work in this socket?

Looking for some advice. As stated, I'm trying to upgrade a Dell Optiplex 7010 from Win7 to Win10 and keep getting a failed install due to 0xC1900101-0x30017 "the installation failed in the first_boot phase with an error during boot operation". Normally I would do a clean install but this is a company PC and I'm not sure how I'd get back all the software, i.e MS Office, that was included with the PC. I still have the "Recovery Partition" which, if used, would get back my apps, but take me back to Win7. If I have to do a clean install how to recovery the MS Office apps?

Thank in advance.

Ps. Of course I've also backed up all with Aomei Backupper.

Hi all,
So I've bought an OptiPlex 7010 SFF and wanted to install Win10 on it, so I've changed the BIOS settings to make a UEFI boot, Secure Boot etc. and I was stuck on a black screen.
Browsed the internet for a solution - update BIOS.
Okay then, downloaded the utility, temporarily installed Windows 7 on it, BIOS updated successfully from A12 to A25.
Changed the settings back to make the UEFI installation happen...
Powers up normally, HDD starts, and black screen. Actually - I can press the escape or spacebar to cause the progress bar to appear altogether with "F12 - Boot Options" but nothing else. After that, a complete darkness appears.
Tried to enter BIOS - No luck. Smashing F2 and F12 causes only to show "Preparing to enter BIOS setup" or single-use (?) boot menu. After that again - black screen.
Removed the CMOS battery, messed with PSWD (Password Jumper), removed everything and installed back, nothing.
Tried to start it without RAM - beeps so it's supposed to be alive.
Hope that's not a mobo issue...

I have a problem with a batch of Dell optiplex 980's, for some reason the Main boards fail at a alarming rate.

According to Dell it is the memory controller that fails.

Error Lights 1,3,4 are on nothing on screen, power led solid blue about 10 error beeps!

Dell tech replaced the main boards and all is fine for a while but same problem persists.

Also according to Dell level 6 tech, it could be over heating, I had some fun proving them wrong, two PC's sealed in a box , hammering them, Temp between 85 Celsius - 90 Celsius in the sealed enclosure, optical drive started melting, cooled the PC's for a day and powered back on, no problems!!

Does any one out there maybe have a issue similar to this on the optiplex 980, main board failures?

Yes I have exactly the same problem. Turned PC on this morning lights 134 on plus blue power light but no screen at all. Still under warranty, phoning dell in the morning - I will keep you posted

I know that Dell motherboards are proprietary and you cannot interchange ATX, mATX, uATX motherboards in dell Bx cases. However can you fit a 745 SFF motherboard in the larger desktop case. The IO panels appear to be the same.
I have a number of both types but the desktops are older GX110's and the GX745 will take a dual core or quad core (Q6600) CPU.
What the SFF case lack is the ability to add an additional hard drive. I can get an SSD and two 3.5" drives in a GX110 case if I dispense with the floppy drive. I don't have room in the proposed locations for towers and the larger case has better cooling and a larger power supply.
Many thanks

We have five OptiPlex 7010 i7 computers with the Intel HD Graphics 4000 video card. They are connected via HDMI to a Crestron video switch which strips out the HDMI audio to an amplifier. They have been installed and working in a classroom setting for years on Windows 7 until we "upgraded" to Windows 10. Since then, once every week or so a user will log in in the morning and no sound will output from the HDMI port. We are unable to figure out what causes the issue to occur, but the only two ways to get audio to come back are:
1. Restart the computer.
2. In Device Manager, disable the Intel Display Audio device under Sound, video and game controllers, then re-enable it right after.
Has anyone else experienced this problem? Is there anything we should be trying? With it only happening once a week, it is very hard to figure out what causes the problem. I have fully debugged with the Crestron switcher and am confident that it is not the problem. I believe the problem is with the Intel HD Graphics 4000 combined with Windows 10.
Here is what we have tried/observed:
- under playback devices, Windows still shows green sound bars going out the Intel Display Audio device even though no sound is received by the Crestron switcher (and therefore the speakers).
- disabling/re-enabling the Intel Display Audio device in Windows playback devices does not fix the issue. Only doing that in Device Manager brings audio back.
- changing default format and other settings has no eff... Read more

I have an Optiplex 7010 Desktop form factor that came with an HD5450 video card.  I have now hooked it up to an HDMI monitor (instead of the previous DVI) and the computer won't POST.
1. On board VGA -- will POST and boot into Windows
2. With discreet DVI will POST and boot into Windows
3. Headless (no monitor attached) will POST and boot into windows.
4. With discreet HDMI will NOT POST and, obviously, won't boot into windows.  The monitor goes into standby as it never receives a signal and I never see the Dell logo or BIOS screen.  Hitting F12 / F2 also results in nothing since the machine won't POST.

I have tried the following to resolve the issue.
1. Updated to latest BIOS
2. In the BIOS tell it to look at the discreet graphics card first
3. Tried with another (AMD HD6450) video card with the same results.

Pull the HDMI cable, let the machine POST and the plug in the HDMI cable and you get a signal on the screen and it works without issue.
I'm hoping it is not the motherboard going bad.  Any ideas are appreciated.

Hi All,
It’s a sad day… my DELL Optiplex 9020 Micro died last night.
The E93839 motherboard started smoking near the CPU, and then died.
Can anyone direct me to where I can purchase a replacement mother board please?... I have searched online (including eBay) but it seems the Micro motherboard is pretty rare.
Any help is very much appreciated.

I'll try to be as terse as I can to help:
0. [Assumption here is that next step is to create the Optiplex 7010 Mini Tower Resource disk or USB key from ISO file]
1. Had multiple BSOD's.  Minidumps showed from all over the place.  Reinstalled Win7Pro.  BSOD's stopped, but...
2. Device manager shows missing "Universal Serial Bus (USB) Controller" driver:

3. The dell drivers and downloads page driver search utility identifies some drivers (including a chipset), I've installed them all (including BIOS to A24), but the above device *still* shows up missing.
4. When I use the Intel driver downloads, I got an immediate BSOD when it tries to scan the system (but not the first time).  Minidump looks like this:  (I'll gladly upload minidump itself if needed).  Note: I suspect that this is a possible red herring, because Intel drivers come with the caveat that they are *before* customizations by dell are made.  In any case, as near as I can tell nothing was installed by the Intel driver. Minidump:

Any help would be greatly appreciated as both I and my family are incredibly frustrated with this and I'm afraid that the frequent BSOD's will come back!

I have had a functioning 3x monitor setup for a few years now. I've never had any issues with it and it is running in a supported configuration of 2x display and 1x vga. After the this setup refuses to work. The Intel Control Panel can see all displays, but only allows 2 to be selected. The 3rd display only gives the option of "Disconnect this display" in the windows display settings.
I am running windows 10 pro 1607 but this behavior is present on earlier Windows 10 versions.

I recently purchased a refurbished Optiplex 7010 MT. Core i7 3.40GHz 4GB RAM, 250GB HDD, DVDRW, 7P Minor side issue: I have already ordered the memory to upgrade it to 32GB RAM based on the advice of the store that sold it to me and Crucial.  Unfortunately, if I read the dell-optiplex-7010-manual-en.pdf right.  It can take 8gb RAM but only two of them for a total of 16gb.   Is it possible to utilize all four 8gb DIMM?   If not, the importance of the speed of the graphics has become even more important.
I need to upgrade the power supply and video card to run Adobe software -- Photoshop, etc. Based on prior experience, I need the fastest possible graphics option.    I'm thrifty but not stingy ... if I can get a racehorse for a bit more then I will.
The video card that I'm thinking about buying is the GEForce GT 640 recommended by Dell. Is there a specific version since the specifications also say "(OHGA3/M209N)"? I would prefer to be able to use a card with more memory but still PCIe 3.0 which appears to be much faster than the PCIe 2.0. If there is a better card out there, please let me know.
The power supply is standard. Since this is April 2016, the Dell recommended Corsair 650TX appears to be hard to get at best, Is there another power supply that would work?
Thank you for your help. Much appreciated!

I have an old Optiplex GX240 that had its power supply break, I recently got another power supply from a different computer. The Power supply is working however there is an orange light on the motherboard and power button that doesn't flash. The ABCD lights on the back of the computer are also not lit.

Answer:Orange Light On Power Button and Motherboard - Dell Optiplex GX240

GX240 requires specific NON PFC power supply.  This unit is 16 years old now and has 512 meg ram of the PC133 variety.   A newer model like an optiplex GX620 or better is still viable.  This system is TOO OLD and TOO Slow to be of any use.
